- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:05Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Don't tell them.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Hello, and welcome.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Back to No Dribble, the week where we have a
- 0:24Speaker 2: new superhero in the sport of netball.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Catherine's going to tell us all about what happened after.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Game on Saturday Saturday.
- 0:33Speaker 3: This is Carolyn.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I'm in Amsterdam today and it's two o'clock in the morning,
- 0:37Speaker 2: So forgive me if I sound a little bit weary,
- 0:40Speaker 2: but again, I can't miss out on.
- 0:41Speaker 3: A chat with my dribbles. Yes, so it's Carolyn.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I'm in Amsterdam, cath Cox, and I am in Sydney.
- 0:46Speaker 1: How boring, Liz ellis that I'm still on the farm,
- 0:51Speaker 1: haven't moved anywhere. I'm nowhere near Amsterdam, the Red Light
- 0:54Speaker 1: District or any of the delights of the cafes over there.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I'll even show you that in my AIRB and B
- 1:01Speaker 2: there's a bunch of tulips, just to be if anyone
- 1:04Speaker 2: doubted that I was actually in Amsterdam, because you can't.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Buy tulips anywhere else.
- 1:11Speaker 4: What have you been doing since you've been there, tell
- 1:13Speaker 4: us everything.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Ah, so we've had a go punishing the children. Walking
- 1:18Speaker 2: miles and miles and miles every day. Actually it's Europe,
- 1:22Speaker 2: so it's kilometers and killer meters every day. But we
- 1:25Speaker 2: had been down driving around in France and we went
- 1:28Speaker 2: to Villas Brettner and saw the World War One Australian
- 1:33Speaker 2: War memorial there. This is a small town where there's
- 1:36Speaker 2: like everything is about remembering Australia and the efforts of
- 1:39Speaker 2: the Australian soldiers and helping to liberate that town. It's
- 1:43Speaker 2: so so moving. So we went there and then we
- 1:46Speaker 2: went down to Normandy and did an Omaha beach tour.
- 1:50Speaker 2: So it's been all about all about war and pastry
- 1:54Speaker 2: this last week.
- 1:54Speaker 4: So not a bad battle, A great combo.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That is a great combo. But have you managed to
- 2:00Speaker 1: fit in wine.
- 2:01Speaker 2: A little bit a pretty glass every now and then?
- 2:04Speaker 2: Doing my bit to support the economy.
- 2:06Speaker 4: How good is it though? When you do travel and
- 2:08Speaker 4: you are walking kilometers every day, Like at the end
- 2:10Speaker 4: of the day, I can eat whatever I want. And
- 2:13Speaker 4: Liza and I fell in that trap a few times.
- 2:15Speaker 4: I thought we'd have the whole cheese cut. Seemed like
- 2:17Speaker 4: a good idea at the time, until half an hour
- 2:19Speaker 4: later it came out the other end.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so we're heading for Paris tonight. But they so
- 2:28Speaker 2: it's two am here and maybe four four and a
- 2:31Speaker 2: half hours ago, I got a note from our accommodation
- 2:33Speaker 2: in Paris saying, oh, sorry, can't host you. We've got
- 2:36Speaker 2: a plumbing problem. It's oh, yeah, you call a plumbing problem.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I call you've got someone who's willing to pay more
- 2:42Speaker 2: money for the apartment. So it's like, okay, haven't told
- 2:45Speaker 2: the kids that one yet. We'll work that one out
- 2:47Speaker 2: sometime today and find somewhere to stay tonight.
- 2:49Speaker 3: It'll be fine. But it's like, man, this four of us,
- 2:51Speaker 3: that's hard.
- 2:52Speaker 1: How are you finding like the Aussie dollar? Do you
- 2:55Speaker 1: just not think about how much you're spending?
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't think about it. I don't know.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Fortunately, not very good at doing the translation on the hops,
- 3:03Speaker 2: so it's just sort of like whatever, don't even think
- 3:05Speaker 2: about it.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Here back to my original story though about the cheese cut.
- 3:09Speaker 4: It was in Paris and it could actually be a
- 3:11Speaker 4: plumbing problem.
- 3:17Speaker 1: That was such a great restaurant, Like, we went to
- 3:19Speaker 1: this restaurant and their specialty was vegetables, which doesn't sound great,
- 3:24Speaker 1: but like we had this rosotto and some poor it
- 3:28Speaker 1: was risotto of like instead of rice, the actual rice
- 3:33Speaker 1: what looked like rice grains were like carved out of
- 3:36Speaker 1: like turner or something. It was beautiful. The food was beautiful,
- 3:39Speaker 1: but it was really like it was a Michelin starred restaurant,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and Catherine and I weren't paying the bills. Somebody a
- 3:44Speaker 1: benefactor was, and so we were having all these beautiful
- 3:49Speaker 1: like vegetable like it was meat, but they made vegetables,
- 3:53Speaker 1: so it was really it was amazing.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Sorry it was meat like there was.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Meat in it. It wasn't a vegetarian restaurant, but the
- 3:59Speaker 1: vegetables were the star. And so we were just marveling
- 4:02Speaker 1: at the fact that some Paul apprentice had probably had
- 4:04Speaker 1: to carve like grains of rice out of turn for
- 4:09Speaker 1: whatever it was. Anyway, we got to the end and
- 4:12Speaker 1: they brought out this cheese cart, and in hindsight we
- 4:16Speaker 1: thought we realized that we're probably just supposed to choose
- 4:20Speaker 1: one bit of cheese age when we demolished the whole cart,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and I just remember lying on our back in the
- 4:27Speaker 1: hotel we were staying in with the penzion, thinking I'm
- 4:31Speaker 1: going to have to go to a hospital and get
- 4:32Speaker 1: my stommach pumped because I ain't too much GeSe.
- 4:35Speaker 4: I didn't even make it to the hotel. Remember, on
- 4:38Speaker 4: the walk home, I literally had to do an emergency
- 4:42Speaker 4: dash into anywhere and try and find a bathroom. It
- 4:45Speaker 4: was to armaged it. So I actually do buy the
- 4:50Speaker 4: plumbing story. I'm telling you somebody else has gone over
- 4:53Speaker 4: there and done exactly what we did. But I remember
- 4:55Speaker 4: that restaurant because it was so uptight. Remember is there
- 4:58Speaker 4: was no no no one was talking, there was no music,
- 5:02Speaker 4: and we were sitting there. I said, do I feel
- 5:04Speaker 4: really uncomfortable? She goes, Nah, just be yourself, don't worry
- 5:07Speaker 4: about it, don't worry about these people. So we got
- 5:09Speaker 4: very loud. I think that was off the back of
- 5:12Speaker 4: a few too many bottles of great French wine. But
- 5:15Speaker 4: it was good fun until the walk home.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it was funny, wasn't it. Like there was Yeah,
- 5:21Speaker 1: there was no music. Everyone was being very quiet, and
- 5:24Speaker 1: I was like, if I was just there to worship
- 5:26Speaker 1: the food, We're like, yeah, we're here to have a
- 5:28Speaker 1: good time.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Well that is the opposite of what a lot of
- 5:35Speaker 2: the Dribblers are talking about in the Facebook group at
- 5:37Speaker 2: the moment, that is their experience of going to a
- 5:39Speaker 2: sun Corps Super Netbook game where there's a lot of
- 5:41Speaker 2: talk about too much music, too loud. It's not a
- 5:44Speaker 2: cheese issue as far as I know, there's no cheese
- 5:46Speaker 2: issue in any of the games, but you know, let's
- 5:49Speaker 2: find that out during the week. But yeah, that there's
- 5:51Speaker 2: a lot of complaints about it's too loud. Can't hear
- 5:53Speaker 2: of the umpires calls, the players can't hear the umpires calls. Yeah,
- 5:57Speaker 2: so what's it like for you to keep down there
- 5:59Speaker 2: on the sideline?
- 6:00Speaker 4: You know, Well, it's we'remen to have that all blocked
- 6:02Speaker 4: out and just hear what's going on. But Adelaide games,
- 6:05Speaker 4: I have the biggest headache after them because you can
- 6:08Speaker 4: hear all the noise and it's amplified, but it is
- 6:11Speaker 4: it's super loud. So and apparently the Mavericks is the worst.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Like they're trying to do a little bit like the
- 6:16Speaker 4: basketball have. They have the music playing all the way through,
- 6:19Speaker 4: and I don't know if it is necessarily loud so
- 6:23Speaker 4: much as netball crowds aren't used to it. There's probably
- 6:26Speaker 4: a fine balance in there somewhere. They can definitely turn
- 6:29Speaker 4: it down a notch. I reckon just so we can
- 6:31Speaker 4: enjoy the sounds of the court. You'd like to hear
- 6:34Speaker 4: the shoes squeaking and the umpires.
- 6:37Speaker 3: What about who's our new superhero?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Oh my god? So the Swift's game, Oh tell you what.
- 6:43Speaker 4: So it was really humid in Sydney on Saturday, the
- 6:47Speaker 4: Easter Show was on. The stadium was full, and I
- 6:49Speaker 4: think just combined with that, it was extra hot inside
- 6:51Speaker 4: the stadium, so the players were sweating and they were
- 6:54Speaker 4: slipping over a lot on the floor. I don't know
- 6:56Speaker 4: if it was all sweat or the floor was particularly
- 6:59Speaker 4: slippery this week, but this man had to come out
- 7:03Speaker 4: I'm talking ten twelve times with the mop after players
- 7:08Speaker 4: had fallen down to white the floor to get all
- 7:10Speaker 4: the sweat off. Anyway, he was the funniest guy. He
- 7:14Speaker 4: was so into it, one of the Swift volunteers. He
- 7:17Speaker 4: was just loving it, loving every moment, running out onto
- 7:20Speaker 4: the court and being a part of the actions so
- 7:22Speaker 4: much so the crowd was picking up on his energy.
- 7:24Speaker 4: And then every time he ran out onto the court,
- 7:26Speaker 4: he'd get the biggest cheer by the end of the game,
- 7:29Speaker 4: he'd run out maybe twelve times and it was so bad.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Shimona Jock I think at one time took the broom
- 7:35Speaker 4: off him and started to get stuck into it as well.
- 7:38Speaker 4: The crowd were going bananas. Anyway, our facebook page, Dribbler's
- 7:42Speaker 4: Facebook page went nuts as well finding out who this
- 7:45Speaker 4: was and talking about him, and we found out his
- 7:48Speaker 4: name's Patrick, Hi. Patrick. He had spent the whole day
- 7:53Speaker 4: coaching junior umpires and then had gone and umpired two
- 7:57Speaker 4: games himself in a grade of the men's camp, one
- 8:00Speaker 4: of the women's comp and then had come and volunteered
- 8:04Speaker 4: for that game and netbub probably thinking he was going
- 8:06Speaker 4: to sit on the sideline and enjoy the netball, not
- 8:08Speaker 4: do too much exercise. But I actually said in commentary
- 8:11Speaker 4: at one point, I reckon, he's played more minutes and
- 8:13Speaker 4: been on the floor more than some of the players.
- 8:15Speaker 4: It's been on the floorboards, and there's.
- 8:17Speaker 1: A bit of love for a bloke who will do
- 8:19Speaker 1: the housework.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Oh big time, do you reckon? That's what it was.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I'm actually riding him to my house. I wonder if
- 8:30Speaker 1: he's good at light the washing, do you know? I
- 8:31Speaker 1: wonder if he packs a dishwasher.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Like a German engineer.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Yeah, like you know, and you know, I think we've
- 8:37Speaker 1: talked about this before, and every couple there's someone who
- 8:39Speaker 1: packs a dishwasher like a German engineer. And I think, Carolyn,
- 8:42Speaker 1: you said, there's also someone and this is me, who
- 8:45Speaker 1: packs the dishwasher like you know, someone on crack. So
- 8:49Speaker 1: I tend to just throw everything in and hope for
- 8:50Speaker 1: the best. And then I come know this, this is weird.
- 8:53Speaker 1: It's not clean. This is weird, it's not clean. So
- 8:55Speaker 1: I wonder if he's like a German engineer packed the dishwasher.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And then I wonder if he's someone who actually hangs
- 9:00Speaker 1: the clothes out properly. Again, I don't do this and
- 9:02Speaker 1: get in trouble for it. So if Patrick can show
- 9:05Speaker 1: us like the full range of his housekeeping abilities, that'd
- 9:07Speaker 1: be great.
- 9:08Speaker 3: What do you mean you don't hang the clothes out properly?
- 9:11Speaker 1: Well, you know what, That's what I say to my husband.
- 9:13Speaker 1: What do you mean? I don't hang the clothes out properly?
- 9:15Speaker 1: But it turns out he as well as packing the
- 9:18Speaker 1: dishwasher like a German engineer, he hangs close out like
- 9:21Speaker 1: a German engineer. So when I hang close out on
- 9:23Speaker 1: the line, I just get them up there anyway I
- 9:26Speaker 1: can and just put the pegs wherever. I don't really care.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Whereas he hangs his undies like side to side and
- 9:32Speaker 1: pegs each side of the undies, Whereas I'm just like, well,
- 9:35Speaker 1: I just throw the undies on the line and just
- 9:37Speaker 1: use a peg wherever, and he's like, oh, it just
- 9:39Speaker 1: makes it uncomfortable, Like, dude, you're not that sensitive down there.
- 9:44Speaker 1: But he hangs like a side to side. And so
- 9:47Speaker 1: when I get home and he's been hanging the washing out,
- 9:49Speaker 1: I just laugh my head off because it's like a
- 9:51Speaker 1: line of all the undies, and he hangs it so
- 9:53Speaker 1: that there's like he'll hang all of the kids, like
- 9:56Speaker 1: all the one kid's stuff on one line, because we've
- 9:59Speaker 1: got like a a parallel sort of line, not a
- 10:02Speaker 1: hills first, and then he'll hang the next kids, and
- 10:04Speaker 1: he'll have mine, then he'll hang his, and then he
- 10:06Speaker 1: insists on like you, whereas I'm like, just steal it
- 10:08Speaker 1: all together and we'll just separate it at the end
- 10:11Speaker 1: when they're come in dry. He's like, no, no, you
- 10:13Speaker 1: do it all like that. And then you can separate
- 10:14Speaker 1: it as you go. And I'm like, oh, and that why,
- 10:18Speaker 1: that is why I hang in the washing out takes
- 10:19Speaker 1: so long.
- 10:20Speaker 4: My mum always said, hang the tops by the bottoms
- 10:23Speaker 4: and the bottoms by the.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Tops, even though that's too hard for me.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Yeah, and then you don't get it. He don't get
- 10:29Speaker 4: you know, peg marks in places that they shouldn't be,
- 10:32Speaker 4: like Matthew's crutch. No one wants the meat tray to
- 10:35Speaker 4: have funny feeling undies.
- 10:38Speaker 1: The tops by the bottom. But that actually, actually that
- 10:41Speaker 1: would involve sorting out the top from the bottom. I
- 10:43Speaker 1: just think, get it up on the line, let the
- 10:45Speaker 1: sunshine do it. That's fine.
- 10:47Speaker 4: At the end of the day, it all drives right, exactly.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And who cares about peg marks? Like maybe in the
- 10:51Speaker 1: sixties people cared about peg marks, but no one. Like
- 10:54Speaker 1: you don't walk down the street and someone goes check
- 10:57Speaker 1: out her peg mark, No one cares.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I care about peg marks.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Do you notice some of other people?
- 11:04Speaker 2: Well no, I don't notice some of other people, but
- 11:06Speaker 2: I certainly notice if I'm putting something on myself and
- 11:08Speaker 2: there's nothing I would rather invest more time hanging out
- 11:12Speaker 2: the washing than in ever having to touch the iron.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Oh yes, well played not smart, not the iron.
- 11:20Speaker 1: So you know, once Evelyn and I when she was little,
- 11:22Speaker 1: we were sitting lying on the bed one morning when
- 11:25Speaker 1: the Olympics were on, and we're like switching through the channels,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and it just happened to be like there were four
- 11:31Speaker 1: channels and on every channel there was an Australian women's team,
- 11:35Speaker 1: so there was like the women's rugby team they're the Pearls,
- 11:38Speaker 1: and then the Opals, the basketball team, the Matilda's and
- 11:43Speaker 1: the hockey Roos. And we've been switching around for about
- 11:45Speaker 1: an hour, and after about an hour Evelyn said, Mummy,
- 11:49Speaker 1: the boys play sport. So I was like, no, darling, no,
- 11:55Speaker 1: they're too busy ironing. And after that twenty minutes she goes,
- 12:00Speaker 1: what's ironing? I thought, my work here is done.
- 12:04Speaker 3: You're doing it.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I realized five years like when we moved, when we
- 12:07Speaker 1: moved into our house, I bought all new appliances and
- 12:10Speaker 1: I hadn't taken the iron out of the box, which
- 12:11Speaker 1: is why she had no idea what ironing was.
- 12:13Speaker 4: So how do you buy materials that don't crease? Because
- 12:16Speaker 4: clearly we've just discussed your hanging on the line abilities.
- 12:20Speaker 1: No, I don't. I just wear everything crease. I don't care.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And my mum is a pool that I will send
- 12:24Speaker 1: my kids to school in uniforms and aren't ironed. I'm like,
- 12:28Speaker 1: I don't.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Care now, my mum erons pillow cases and teetowels.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I remember my mom used to used to iron hankys.
- 12:37Speaker 4: Even the idea of a hanky, though, Do you know
- 12:39Speaker 4: anyone that still uses a hanky? That is just vile,
- 12:42Speaker 4: isn't it. Do you know anyone that uses a hanky
- 12:47Speaker 4: that's not old?
- 12:48Speaker 1: No, I don't know. Well I wouldn't. It's not a
- 12:49Speaker 1: hanky in our house do you use that of you guys?
- 12:52Speaker 1: We wouldn't have a hanky chef in our house.
- 12:54Speaker 4: I don't think a hanky cheef hanky chee to Saturday,
- 13:00Speaker 4: he said, hanky chief a handkerchief.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, we've got a hanky pinky chief sharehouse, but not a.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Sinkchen otherwise known as the meat tro.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Anyway, Patrick, if you've got any tips for us, clearly
- 13:16Speaker 2: you're a man who knows what he's doing, and great work.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Thank you so much for all you were and all
- 13:20Speaker 2: the volunteers. It's crazy how and we always talk about
- 13:23Speaker 2: how much of our sport is carried by the volunteers.
- 13:26Speaker 2: But you know, we don't even talk about what we
- 13:29Speaker 2: don't usually talk about what's happening at this top level
- 13:31Speaker 2: of the game. But we have the Patricks of the
- 13:33Speaker 2: world out wielding the mops and now providing entertainment.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Do you know who else was it the game on
- 13:38Speaker 4: Saturday which I loved? I heard a Catherine from behind
- 13:41Speaker 4: me turned around standing there with a no dribble t
- 13:44Speaker 4: shirt on and a scrunchy that was safety pinned on
- 13:48Speaker 4: the top because her hair's too short to wear one.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Bob Jarvis, oh get it?
- 13:54Speaker 1: But I was so good.
- 13:56Speaker 4: And then there's video footage that's ended up on our
- 13:58Speaker 4: socials pages of her with the rally towel given in
- 14:01Speaker 4: one of these ones. She was right into it.
- 14:04Speaker 1: That's so good. Can I just have a little heads
- 14:06Speaker 1: up here, you a little vote of thanks. So Patrick
- 14:08Speaker 1: did a great job on the mopping, But five years
- 14:10Speaker 1: ago there was no sign of a mop and it
- 14:12Speaker 1: was a Dribbler's own Sue Guardian who lobbied hard for
- 14:16Speaker 1: the mop action to make sure that we had people
- 14:18Speaker 1: on the sideline ready to mop up. Because it used
- 14:20Speaker 1: to be just. I think it was a boll kids
- 14:22Speaker 1: who had a bit of cloth and Sue it used
- 14:25Speaker 1: to get up her giddy goat so much so you know,
- 14:27Speaker 1: be the change you want to see. So she beat.
- 14:30Speaker 4: It funny because she at the end of that we
- 14:33Speaker 4: I think we almost we had a sponsor. Some people had.
- 14:36Speaker 4: There was Sabco that came on board for a minute
- 14:38Speaker 4: off the back of Sue's petitions.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yep.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So it was a beautiful And I think it was
- 14:43Speaker 2: in the very first episode of No Dribble that I
- 14:46Speaker 2: proposed that the Swifts get the Swifts as get Swiffer
- 14:49Speaker 2: as a sponsor. I didn't see them following up on
- 14:52Speaker 2: this amazing advice that I give. But anyway, there was
- 14:56Speaker 2: a bit of netball on the weekend. It was how'd
- 14:58Speaker 2: you go with your tips?
- 14:59Speaker 3: Cat?
- 15:00Speaker 4: I annoyingly got one wrong and I but you did
- 15:05Speaker 4: get well, I know. But then the rest of the
- 15:06Speaker 4: games they weren't the blowouts I was expecting. All the
- 15:10Speaker 4: games were a lot more ebbs and flows this week,
- 15:14Speaker 4: which is great, isn't it. Like I kind of thought
- 15:16Speaker 4: last week was the super hard tipping round and this
- 15:18Speaker 4: one was going to be so much easier. But it
- 15:20Speaker 4: definitely didn't shape up that way. Queensay, Firebirds too early
- 15:24Speaker 4: to say the real deal.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Do you think, though, Well, they're looking good. They are
- 15:31Speaker 1: looking good. That's a big win. That is turning into
- 15:34Speaker 1: a tough road trip for Fever, isn't it. Given that's
- 15:36Speaker 1: two years in a row they've lost that corresponding game.
- 15:39Speaker 1: So and it wasn't closest time around thirteen goals. No.
- 15:42Speaker 4: The good news for Fever though, is that Janielle Fowler
- 15:45Speaker 4: has put in a four weeks notice. Fell and m
- 15:48Speaker 4: Marte apologies and so I think probably two or or
- 15:53Speaker 4: one and a half weeks in they've got to buy
- 15:55Speaker 4: this weekend, which means that they won't lose more points
- 15:59Speaker 4: if they were to lose a game, not to say
- 16:01Speaker 4: they would, and then she potentially is back the following
- 16:04Speaker 4: week when they play The Vixen's neb All. Australia's statement
- 16:07Speaker 4: basically said that they were using general employment laws. I
- 16:12Speaker 4: want to say, it's the National Employment standards, thank you. There.
- 16:15Speaker 4: It is so by that genial Fowler can go back,
- 16:18Speaker 4: Nemard can go back to her position, and she's just
- 16:22Speaker 4: got to give the four weeks notice, which she has
- 16:24Speaker 4: done so she will be back for the West Coast
- 16:26Speaker 4: Fever and will be back momentarily, which make a big
- 16:29Speaker 4: difference for them now that they're down two losses already
- 16:32Speaker 4: and what's a super close competition.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, And I think as the biggest women's sport
- 16:37Speaker 1: in the country, we've got to make sure that we
- 16:38Speaker 1: look after women when they go on maternity leave and
- 16:41Speaker 1: when they come back. So, you know, it's a difficult
- 16:44Speaker 1: situation because there are two players impacted here, so there's
- 16:48Speaker 1: been a lot of work going behind the scenes to
- 16:49Speaker 1: make sure they're okay. And it's exciting that, you know,
- 16:55Speaker 1: fans get to see Janille come back.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Yeah, it is exciting. Be pumped, won't they.
- 17:04Speaker 1: So I just want to put on the record that
- 17:07Speaker 1: I picked three this week. Yeah everyone knows. I know,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I just picked the home teams, but I was so
- 17:12Speaker 1: happy to see three of the four home teams.
- 17:16Speaker 3: So Catherine's gone more accurately.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Whoever scheduled the games three.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Letes exactly go the Sun got super much.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I also picked three.
- 17:26Speaker 4: So did you did we all get the Firebirds wrong?
- 17:28Speaker 4: Is that where we filled down?
- 17:29Speaker 1: I got the Firebirds right, I got the Lightning wrong. Catherine,
- 17:33Speaker 1: he was over the home team, right of course. Sorry, yeah,
- 17:36Speaker 1: but I mean fifteen goals at the end. It wasn't
- 17:40Speaker 1: The score probably didn't tell the story of the game.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Hey, no, not at all. They Lightning were in it
- 17:44Speaker 4: for a lot of that game, and particularly against a
- 17:47Speaker 4: full strength Adelaide Thunderbirds. I don't know that anyone thought
- 17:49Speaker 4: it was going to be quite so close. So that
- 17:52Speaker 4: was a brilliant game, I'll tell you what, though, I'm
- 17:54Speaker 4: feeling for Carra Conan all week in the lead up.
- 17:57Speaker 4: There's so much talk around you know, is she kind
- 18:00Speaker 4: of null and void in the sun Corps supernet ball
- 18:02Speaker 4: space now because she's not shooting long shots? Does that
- 18:05Speaker 4: means somebody else is going to come in and do it?
- 18:07Speaker 4: Which bachelor door seems to be getting a bit more
- 18:09Speaker 4: caught time there. And then all of nearly the halftime
- 18:13Speaker 4: show during their particular game yesterday was about kar Ra
- 18:17Speaker 4: Kanan as well. We spoke about it on Pivot last
- 18:19Speaker 4: night as well. And it's tough, but I get it,
- 18:23Speaker 4: like you've got to be shooting them, But my thing
- 18:26Speaker 4: is you don't have to be shooting them just in
- 18:27Speaker 4: power time. You should be shooting them at all stages.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Of the game. It's so hard to get the ball
- 18:33Speaker 4: in the circle in this competition to then be throwing
- 18:37Speaker 4: it out again and stuffing around with it, and you
- 18:39Speaker 4: see so many players lose possession in those moments. You've
- 18:42Speaker 4: got to be able to back yourself and go to
- 18:44Speaker 4: the post, regardless of if it's power time or not.
- 18:47Speaker 1: That's fascinating, Catherine, because that's what that was your trademark,
- 18:50Speaker 1: right Whenever we were playing and the ball got into
- 18:53Speaker 1: you in the circle, I would just expect you to
- 18:56Speaker 1: turn and shoot, and that was what you were fantastic at.
- 19:00Speaker 1: But then as we got to having I guess, taller
- 19:03Speaker 1: holding shooters, the idea was to work the ball until
- 19:06Speaker 1: you get something under the post. But the super shot
- 19:09Speaker 1: has done a couple of things. It's obviously changed up
- 19:11Speaker 1: how defensive players approachings, but you do need a long
- 19:15Speaker 1: range shooter now. So it's almost like the game. We've
- 19:20Speaker 1: got to spend a couple of years now getting players
- 19:22Speaker 1: back to the style of game that you played, which
- 19:25Speaker 1: is high risk.
- 19:26Speaker 3: But high reward.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Yeah, it's funny because Caitlin Bassett came out in defense
- 19:30Speaker 4: of car Ra Conan saying that she doesn't have to
- 19:33Speaker 4: shoot them. She's taller, she's going to get the rebounds,
- 19:36Speaker 4: and which I agree with to your point a bit
- 19:39Speaker 4: like about having the tall shooter. But Carra Conan's not
- 19:42Speaker 4: six foot four or five like your chol Ox and
- 19:44Speaker 4: you fell in their MARDs and your Aike and George's.
- 19:48Speaker 4: All the shooters around her height, which is probably your
- 19:51Speaker 4: Garbon Heart and cardwell shoot super shots. They all back
- 19:56Speaker 4: themselves and shoot. So I think when you've got a
- 19:58Speaker 4: smaller circle and car Hurricane and even though she's six
- 20:01Speaker 4: foot two is probably considered smaller, you've got to be
- 20:04Speaker 4: able to back yourself and go to the post, I think.
- 20:07Speaker 2: But it's interesting because we don't have supershots in international
- 20:10Speaker 2: netballk so no diamonds selection, you know, like someone like
- 20:14Speaker 2: Kara is so useful that it's like, well, if you
- 20:16Speaker 2: can win games without using the supershots, you are potentially
- 20:20Speaker 2: more valuable at an international level. But then if she's
- 20:23Speaker 2: not going to get the court time at super same
- 20:25Speaker 2: Corps SUPERNETBWLE stage, that makes it we're sort of cannibalizing
- 20:29Speaker 2: some of our talent there well.
- 20:31Speaker 4: And it's nuts too because the Adelaide Thunderbirds won the
- 20:33Speaker 4: Premiership too, is in a row hardly shooting a supershot,
- 20:36Speaker 4: so you don't need to shoot them. But I think
- 20:38Speaker 4: what we see in Kara is that she just refuses
- 20:41Speaker 4: to Like if she lands in that space, she won't
- 20:44Speaker 4: even attempt to look at the post or and that
- 20:48Speaker 4: I think that's where the issue lies.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Catherine. How hard is how hard would it be so
- 20:52Speaker 1: for someone like Cara Knain, who has had a brilliant
- 20:55Speaker 1: career to this point, running that baseline shooting close shots,
- 20:59Speaker 1: She's been at standing for Australia and outstanding for the Lightning,
- 21:02Speaker 1: How hard would it be for her at this point
- 21:06Speaker 1: of her career to become someone who's prepared to put
- 21:09Speaker 1: up the long shots? Like? Is that a matter of
- 21:12Speaker 1: the shooting coach working just with her to perfect that
- 21:17Speaker 1: the physical part of it? Or is there a mental
- 21:19Speaker 1: part of it? Like how if you were coaching her,
- 21:21Speaker 1: how would you approach it?
- 21:22Speaker 4: Oh, look, I think it's I think it's mental with
- 21:24Speaker 4: her because apparently it's training she's doing it. Obviously, Belinda
- 21:27Speaker 4: Reynolds wants everybody shooting super shots and apparently Kara is
- 21:31Speaker 4: draining them left, right and center at the game. But
- 21:33Speaker 4: then you step out onto the court. She knows everyone
- 21:37Speaker 4: is watching her and waiting for her to shoot super shots,
- 21:40Speaker 4: And I don't know if that's part of the problem
- 21:42Speaker 4: or I think she's absolutely capable of it, and I
- 21:46Speaker 4: think the shooting technique doesn't change a huge amount going
- 21:49Speaker 4: from under the post. I mean, the supershot line is
- 21:51Speaker 4: actually not that far back. So then you all we
- 21:54Speaker 4: spoke about last week. New Zealand's bringing it into their
- 21:56Speaker 4: comp It's further back than ours. They've decided to make
- 21:59Speaker 4: the disc It's a bit further, which I think ourse
- 22:02Speaker 4: probably should be. It's probably a bit easy at the moment.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Yeah, right, So, I mean when you think back to
- 22:07Speaker 1: your career, you went through a stage of having the yips.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Is that different to what to what Kara might be experiencing.
- 22:14Speaker 4: No, because my yips were under the post, So no,
- 22:18Speaker 4: so much. Kara has got absolutely no issues under the postmine.
- 22:22Speaker 4: We're always I can't miss this because it is so easy.
- 22:26Speaker 4: Everyone I think I'm an absolute lose. You cannot miss
- 22:29Speaker 4: this one, and those are the ones I would miss
- 22:31Speaker 4: because I'd talk myself into it once. Fromout further, there's
- 22:34Speaker 4: actually no pressure on you because they're harder right, so
- 22:38Speaker 4: just have a crack. But heaps of players miss mass
- 22:41Speaker 4: amounts of super shots in the game across the course
- 22:44Speaker 4: of a tournament. It's just the way it is. You
- 22:46Speaker 4: just got to have a crack, though, is the thing.
- 22:47Speaker 4: I think.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I'm trying to remember what games I watched on the
- 22:53Speaker 2: weekend because I'm go blocks. I wasn't able to watch
- 22:56Speaker 2: a whole lot of them, but I did see must
- 22:59Speaker 2: have been the Five Birds game, and there was not
- 23:03Speaker 2: a super shot until very deep back end of the set.
- 23:06Speaker 2: No one even tried for a super shot and they
- 23:09Speaker 2: had I can re in what game it was, but anyway,
- 23:12Speaker 2: there was there were perfect shooting stats at that stage,
- 23:14Speaker 2: and it's sort of like, are you guys trying to
- 23:16Speaker 2: preserve your shooting stats?
- 23:17Speaker 3: Now? Maybe it was the Lightning.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Game the Swifts and the MAVs game were similar.
- 23:21Speaker 3: To I didn't see any of that, sadly, So.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Yeah, in the Swifts game, Lizellis, though, there was a milestone.
- 23:28Speaker 4: I don't know if you heard about this one happening
- 23:31Speaker 4: during the week or anyone mentioned it to you, but
- 23:33Speaker 4: Paige Hadley played her one hundred and seventy second game
- 23:38Speaker 4: for the Swifts, so not in the national league, but
- 23:41Speaker 4: in the Swiss But she's been with the Swifts the
- 23:42Speaker 4: whole time anyway, to equal the mighty Lizzelles. Oh god,
- 23:47Speaker 4: did she so second of all time for games played
- 23:51Speaker 4: for the Swifts. Now you were Page Hadley. Oh, it's
- 23:56Speaker 4: me and she's coming for me. Mine's one ninety two.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Apparently I knew none of this before the weekend, and
- 24:04Speaker 4: our statian gave us all the details. Statistician whatever you
- 24:06Speaker 4: call them.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Love your statition. Oh that's exciting. Congratulations Paigey. Yeah, it's cool.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Like I think if your record is going to be broken,
- 24:15Speaker 1: when it's broken by someone who is such a great
- 24:17Speaker 1: player and a great human, like, it's nice.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:21Speaker 1: So the fact that she's coming for you, I don't
- 24:24Speaker 1: like it, No, you don't like it, but I'm excited that,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you know, such a great servant of the Swifts, you know,
- 24:29Speaker 1: and she's a one club player, which is great.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Yeah. I do love that too.
- 24:34Speaker 2: So that would be for her sometime back end of
- 24:37Speaker 2: next year, one hundred and ninety. She's at one hundred
- 24:39Speaker 2: and seventy two now.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Yeah, so she's got to get twenty more games, So
- 24:42Speaker 4: she's got to play another season.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Yeah, to get it.
- 24:46Speaker 4: I might just get her in the car park before
- 24:47Speaker 4: that happens.
- 24:49Speaker 3: What you doing, Tan? You're herding on her.
- 24:54Speaker 4: On the eve of the one ninety two of Paige
- 24:56Speaker 4: A Hadley goes missing. Guys nothing with me.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Pi Toatally goes missing. Bridiy Agle will be after you,
- 25:02Speaker 1: and she knows where you live.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Speaking of New South Wales, netble as though, we had
- 25:06Speaker 4: some confirmation about the Sliger's.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Confirmation excellent, important, excellent.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Do you know who's who lives? Did you see?
- 25:13Speaker 1: I think Natalie is my favorite?
- 25:17Speaker 4: Natalie, Elizabeth and Amy Catherine?
- 25:20Speaker 1: All right, so when you planned to drop those names
- 25:22Speaker 1: in the commentary.
- 25:23Speaker 4: I already did it, did you now? I was telling
- 25:29Speaker 4: everyone about it. Yes that No, I haven't done that yet.
- 25:31Speaker 4: That would be pretty shameless.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, we're watching.
- 25:34Speaker 2: If anyone doesn't know what we're talking about. We discovered
- 25:37Speaker 2: last week, thanks to Julie Slager, that her fabulous daughters
- 25:41Speaker 2: Natalie and Amy chose Elizabeth and Katherine as their confirmation names.
- 25:46Speaker 2: So it was Natalie, Elizabeth and Amy Catherine. Those are
- 25:50Speaker 2: the saints that they were taking. And you know, not
- 25:52Speaker 2: everybody who has those names, clearly lives their life like
- 25:55Speaker 2: a saint, is all I'm saying.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think I was named after Saint Elizabeth.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Do you know?
- 26:02Speaker 1: It's Elizabeth Margaret? So I was named after the two
- 26:06Speaker 1: real princesses at the time.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Oh nice, the.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Queen and her sister.
- 26:11Speaker 4: There you go.
- 26:12Speaker 2: It makes so princess sense. You're always acting like a princess,
- 26:18Speaker 2: so listen. I'll just do a quick update on the
- 26:21Speaker 2: tipping comp. On the Valor Dribbler's tipping comp the three
- 26:24Speaker 2: of us got three this week. That is by far
- 26:27Speaker 2: the most common score. We had three hundred and thirty
- 26:29Speaker 2: one tippers on three. One hundred and thirty people got
- 26:32Speaker 2: it absolutely correct this week, got been going to the bonus.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Twenty two people got one point, so sadly we have
- 26:42Speaker 2: no one left was sitting on zero anymore. I was
- 26:45Speaker 2: a little bit sad when I tipped the swifts correctly
- 26:48Speaker 2: that my perfect record was broken for the year early.
- 26:52Speaker 2: But yes, and we have our weekly winner of the
- 26:56Speaker 2: Valor voucher, and that is her tipping alien is Kirsten.
- 27:00Speaker 2: So she was the most accurate this week. So well done, Kirsten.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Now is I prefer Quidditch? Still? On the top.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I don't know who's on the top of the ladder.
- 27:10Speaker 2: You keep talking, I'll go and do some big on
- 27:14Speaker 2: here and I'll tell you who's on the who's on
- 27:18Speaker 2: the top of the ladder?
- 27:20Speaker 3: Okay, I have the update.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I prefer Quidditch is sitting in third position now, so
- 27:26Speaker 2: Kirky is top.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Of the leaderboard.
- 27:28Speaker 4: Kirky, Kirky. Okay. So I was just saying, I prefer
- 27:34Speaker 4: quidditch is Haley, and she messaged me to say that
- 27:38Speaker 4: she's just getting amongst it because it is the first
- 27:40Speaker 4: and final time she will be at the top of
- 27:42Speaker 4: the table. She's not far off still, though. Don't lose hope, haileey.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yeah, positive self talk, Hailey. I mean, I'm saying this
- 27:49Speaker 1: to my kids in my netball team. You will perform
- 27:51Speaker 1: how you tell yourself to perform, Hailey, So you know,
- 27:54Speaker 1: stay positive.
- 27:56Speaker 2: So my little team is we're emulating the fever at
- 28:00Speaker 2: the moment where two games down started the season. It's
- 28:03Speaker 2: a long season, plenty of time, so yeah. But apparently
- 28:07Speaker 2: they had a tough one.
- 28:07Speaker 4: On the weekend score lines.
- 28:11Speaker 3: That was twenty seven twenty.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Oh that's good scoring though, yeah, yeah.
- 28:15Speaker 2: So they came back hard in the fourth quarter. I
- 28:17Speaker 2: think they fell apart in the third quarter by the
- 28:19Speaker 2: looks of things. But you know, I'm getting my stats
- 28:22Speaker 2: still sent to me.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Nice.
- 28:25Speaker 4: I love it. She just can't go on holidays. And
- 28:27Speaker 4: go on holidays, I e up at two thirty in
- 28:30Speaker 4: the morning.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Interesting that you guys are playing first week of the
- 28:33Speaker 1: school holidays.
- 28:34Speaker 2: So would you pronounce that interesting or pain in the ass,
- 28:38Speaker 2: because that's how I pronounced that. It's like, oh God,
- 28:41Speaker 2: And it's like, you know, I feel bad because I'm away.
- 28:44Speaker 2: You know, you volunteer to do something, and we've all
- 28:46Speaker 2: got lives and everyone's happy to lean in. But it's like,
- 28:49Speaker 2: can we just have the school holidays as school holidays?
- 28:53Speaker 2: Like that's you know, if we all aim to be
- 28:56Speaker 2: there for the whole term.
- 28:57Speaker 3: So yeah, that's I'm frustrated with that.
- 29:00Speaker 4: But anyway, are you going to go and do some
- 29:02Speaker 4: netball training around the Mulin Rouge.
- 29:07Speaker 3: With my long stretch?
- 29:09Speaker 4: Yes? Are you going? No? Oh, okay, you don't want
- 29:13Speaker 4: your kids to see boobs and bump.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Well, it's just I'm not that.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Of all the things to do with my time in Paris,
- 29:22Speaker 2: probably the Mulin Rouge is not one that necessarily floats
- 29:26Speaker 2: my boat fair enough.
- 29:27Speaker 4: So what's on the agenda in Paris?
- 29:30Speaker 2: Well, clearly finding a bed that will be number one
- 29:35Speaker 2: on the agenda. So last week, well we did do
- 29:38Speaker 2: I think I mentioned this last week how Dotty read
- 29:40Speaker 2: these story books when she was a kid. Ruby Red
- 29:42Speaker 2: Shoes goes to London. And we had a great day.
- 29:46Speaker 2: And it was the three of us because I've brought
- 29:47Speaker 2: my stepdaughter Claire over to complete the picture, because step
- 29:52Speaker 2: daughter number one is living in London, that's Hailey. So
- 29:55Speaker 2: it was like, well, five out of six of us
- 29:57Speaker 2: are going to be there. Let's make it six out
- 29:58Speaker 2: of six. So she came over. Is a surprise for
- 30:00Speaker 2: her sister and her father organized by the evil stepmother,
- 30:04Speaker 2: thank you very much. And so Claire came with us
- 30:07Speaker 2: for the day and we did our Ruby Red Shoes day.
- 30:09Speaker 2: So Ruby Redshoes also went to Paris. So we will
- 30:11Speaker 2: have a Ruby Redshoes Goes to Paris day, which will
- 30:15Speaker 2: it involves eating a lot of cheese and going to
- 30:17Speaker 2: see Rodin's the Thinker. But yesterday I saw Rembrandts and
- 30:22Speaker 2: van Gochs and the Meres so seeing all the artie guys.
- 30:27Speaker 4: Oh, so you're going to go and see the mona Lisa. No,
- 30:30Speaker 4: oh done, mate, I'm striking at at a rate of
- 30:36Speaker 4: knots here.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Actually, one thing I did do, most amazing thing went
- 30:41Speaker 2: up inside the tower that holds Big Ben. So Big
- 30:44Speaker 2: Ben is the bell and we were up behind the
- 30:46Speaker 2: clock tower, behind the face of the clock, and above
- 30:50Speaker 2: that in the belfry last week.
- 30:52Speaker 1: So yeah, so very good.
- 30:54Speaker 4: I say, I wouldn't have picked that one.
- 30:57Speaker 2: No, no, it's a very surprising thing to have been
- 30:59Speaker 2: able to do. Just managed to jag some tickets.
- 31:02Speaker 1: That's very cool. Did you drive and round and around
- 31:04Speaker 1: the roundabout and say, look, kis big Ben?
- 31:06Speaker 3: Look Kisigo?
- 31:09Speaker 1: Anyone younger than forty five won't know what we're talking about,
- 31:12Speaker 1: but you have to go and watch. It was a
- 31:15Speaker 1: national Lampoon's europe vacation.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Yeah, Jimmy Chase.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Ye, well we did a.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Lot of that, and we also did a lot of
- 31:22Speaker 2: what does the Queen do? Well, well, we can't do
- 31:24Speaker 2: she queens? Well she could, well, obviously we have a
- 31:26Speaker 2: new queen now, so yeah, but she queens from the
- 31:29Speaker 2: same movie She Queens, She queens?
- 31:32Speaker 3: What does the kin do? Genus?
- 31:35Speaker 2: But our queen that's you, Liz Fi. That's another great
- 31:38Speaker 2: seguay for me. You've got news out of net Australia
- 31:41Speaker 2: about the Constellation Cup.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I do the dates hot off the press. The dates
- 31:46Speaker 1: have been released, very exciting. Obviously, there's four games in
- 31:50Speaker 1: the Constellation Cup. Everyone knows that that is not the
- 31:52Speaker 1: news flash. The news flash is the dates and the venues.
- 31:55Speaker 1: So the first two games against the Silver Ferns Friday,
- 31:58Speaker 1: the seventeenth of October John Caine Arena in Melbourne. Victorians
- 32:02Speaker 1: are getting spoiled.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Aren't they.
- 32:04Speaker 1: That's because the government pays for it. Do you want
- 32:06Speaker 1: to get sports back to your government? Diamonds vat Silver
- 32:08Speaker 1: Ferns Wednesday, the twenty second of October at Cutos Bank
- 32:12Speaker 1: Arena in Sydney. They will be absolute blockbusters, hopefully in
- 32:16Speaker 1: front of massive crowns. And then we go across the
- 32:19Speaker 1: Dutch Sunday the twenty sixth of October in Hamilton at
- 32:23Speaker 1: Globox Arena and then the twenty ninth of October at
- 32:27Speaker 1: Wolfbrook Arena in christ Church.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Keep your doing three games when we played Constellation Cup.
- 32:35Speaker 1: We didn't play Constellation Cup though, oh my, didn't you
- 32:38Speaker 1: might have?
- 32:39Speaker 4: I think I did, but I don't remember it ever
- 32:41Speaker 4: being four, and I feel like we need a time.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Breaker and be somewhere, don't we Anyway, that's obviously not
- 32:49Speaker 1: happening this year.
- 32:50Speaker 4: So okay, so we'll just embrace the four and be
- 32:52Speaker 4: excited about it.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Yeah, embrace it four? Now, correct me if I'm wrong
- 32:56Speaker 1: with The diamonds have to win three? Don't they to
- 32:58Speaker 1: win it back? Do you have to win it or
- 33:00Speaker 1: is it not aggregate? I think it's on aggregate? No?
- 33:03Speaker 4: Oh, I reckon, this has changed too. See now you're
- 33:05Speaker 4: really testing me. I reckon you whoever held it last
- 33:09Speaker 4: retains it if you win two?
- 33:12Speaker 1: I might need to check that. How about I report
- 33:14Speaker 1: back next week on how the diamonds have to what
- 33:17Speaker 1: they have to do to get the constellation cut back.
- 33:20Speaker 3: But we want them to do that. That would be good.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Please let's have it back.
- 33:23Speaker 4: I mean that is the aim well, and to be fair,
- 33:26Speaker 4: if there's a time to do it, it's probably without
- 33:27Speaker 4: grace wiki for New Zealand. So get on board, guys,
- 33:33Speaker 4: come on, bring it back for us. We can do it.
- 33:36Speaker 4: We can do it. Hey, can I do a little
- 33:38Speaker 4: shout out please? I heard some sad news during the
- 33:41Speaker 4: week about a little girl named Rio Muir and her
- 33:44Speaker 4: family who had lost their home and a fire. Horrible story,
- 33:50Speaker 4: and Mammy Vaughan was apparently most upset about losing all
- 33:52Speaker 4: the little mementos that you keep many kids are growing up,
- 33:56Speaker 4: you know, all those special little things, and there was
- 33:58Speaker 4: lots of netball memorabilia and all that sort of stuff.
- 34:00Speaker 4: So Rio is a big fan of the Swifts and
- 34:03Speaker 4: was playing for Hills Saints and the Nets that go anyway,
- 34:06Speaker 4: the Swifts, God love them. I got in touch with
- 34:08Speaker 4: them and they reached out and I think they gave
- 34:10Speaker 4: them tickets for the weekend and Rio was able to
- 34:12Speaker 4: present some flowers to some of the debutantes on the
- 34:15Speaker 4: court and stuff as well, and a Swift's pack and
- 34:17Speaker 4: all that sort of thing. So whilst we know that's
- 34:19Speaker 4: not a big deal in terms of what they're going through,
- 34:22Speaker 4: we hope for a second there was a smile on
- 34:24Speaker 4: the face because that I can't even imagine.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Yeah, what are the Swifts?
- 34:29Speaker 3: And well done you cat, you swung into action behind that.
- 34:32Speaker 3: I'm impressed.
- 34:34Speaker 4: Well, you know, it takes someone to reach out, doesn't it.
- 34:36Speaker 4: And it was a family friend that did so that
- 34:38Speaker 4: was I'm glad we could do something.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and we are thinking of them. That would be
- 34:42Speaker 1: that would be so sad. I mean the kids probably,
- 34:46Speaker 1: like I guess when you lose mementos, if your mum
- 34:49Speaker 1: lost you know, your mentos. When you're a kid, you
- 34:51Speaker 1: sort of don't get it, but then when you're older
- 34:53Speaker 1: and you become a mum. Like I've got boxes in
- 34:55Speaker 1: the office here of just labor with the kids, and
- 34:58Speaker 1: it's the sort of stuff that I've want them to
- 35:00Speaker 1: be able to pull out and look at when they're older.
- 35:02Speaker 1: And actually they started doing it now and they just love.
- 35:06Speaker 1: They love coming in and ruining my office completely. I mean,
- 35:09Speaker 1: everyone knows how much our hate house work. But they
- 35:12Speaker 1: come in and they pull the boxes out and they
- 35:14Speaker 1: read through all the stuff and they look at all
- 35:15Speaker 1: the little photos and the cards from when they were little,
- 35:17Speaker 1: and they love it. So that would be heartbreaking.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Did you guys do that when I did? Your mum
- 35:22Speaker 4: and dad keep stuff and you go through it all
- 35:24Speaker 4: the time.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Mom did. She was a massive hoarder and she's still
- 35:26Speaker 1: got stuff and I go, oh, my god, have you
- 35:28Speaker 1: still got that? She's got like clippings from my entire
- 35:33Speaker 1: netball career, and she's put them into albums, so sort
- 35:36Speaker 1: of they're all out here. But she's got like stuff
- 35:38Speaker 1: from my sister and I like from school and we
- 35:41Speaker 1: still like going through and yeah, so I can't imagine
- 35:44Speaker 1: how heartbreaking that would be if it was just deraysed
- 35:47Speaker 1: like that, it would be just.
- 35:48Speaker 3: So sad and I hurt. Cat.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I think that you shared this information that the kids
- 35:54Speaker 2: Rio and her siblings, they just had the clothes on
- 35:57Speaker 2: their back, which happened to be their school uniforms. Are
- 36:00Speaker 2: you kidding, like really, that they would be so disappointed
- 36:03Speaker 2: that of all.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Their favorite clothes. Oh good, I've still got my bloody
- 36:07Speaker 3: school uniform though.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Yeah, well get out of wearing a unicorn.
- 36:12Speaker 4: Ah. I know, the poor things, but no, we are
- 36:15Speaker 4: thinking of them, and thank you to the Swifts two
- 36:17Speaker 4: for stepping in to help put a smile on faces
- 36:20Speaker 4: for even a minute.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Now.
- 36:22Speaker 2: On another note, now we're not sure exactly when these
- 36:25Speaker 2: will will drop, but this will probably be clear by Wednesday. Liz,
- 36:29Speaker 2: We've been having some conversations with interesting people.
- 36:32Speaker 1: We have we have so coming up to a federal election,
- 36:36Speaker 1: we thought, given the amount of women who have a
- 36:40Speaker 1: bit of power at this election. We're really fortunate, not fortunate,
- 36:44Speaker 1: but I think it's fabulous that the current Minister for
- 36:46Speaker 1: Sport Anika Wells, and the shadow Minister for Sport and Russia,
- 36:50Speaker 1: and they're both women. So we thought with them and
- 36:53Speaker 1: then a lot of if we end up with a
- 36:55Speaker 1: hung parliament, the balance of power will largely be held
- 36:58Speaker 1: by female parliamentary So we just thought we'd reach out
- 37:02Speaker 1: to them and have a bit of a chat about
- 37:03Speaker 1: their netball experience, who their favorite players are, and find
- 37:06Speaker 1: out a little bit about them. So for any Dribblers
- 37:09Speaker 1: who might want to find out a little bit about
- 37:12Speaker 1: some of our female parliamentarians and the lead up to
- 37:15Speaker 1: the election and figure out might help you how to
- 37:17Speaker 1: figure out what you can do with your vote because
- 37:19Speaker 1: every vote counts. Will drop a series of conversations with
- 37:23Speaker 1: some of these parliamentarians over the next few weeks and
- 37:26Speaker 1: the lead up to the election.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Yeah, they're separate episodes, so they won't be waving through
- 37:31Speaker 2: our normally. We will still have our normal episodes. But yeah,
- 37:34Speaker 2: we're doing a sort of No Dribble extra series and
- 37:36Speaker 2: acting very grown up and talking to politicians and pretending
- 37:41Speaker 2: that we're proper journalists and having some sensible questions. And
- 37:45Speaker 2: I have also been bestowed with the enormous privilege of
- 37:50Speaker 2: running Coxy's Hot Box on her behalf because she was
- 37:53Speaker 2: not able to be present for these conversations. So I've
- 37:57Speaker 2: done my best to do you proud.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Did we try and smarten up the name a little
- 38:03Speaker 4: because it was, you know, serious conversation or did we
- 38:05Speaker 4: keep it as Coxies hot Box?
- 38:07Speaker 3: Coxy's Hot Box? My god? Did I would chisel that
- 38:10Speaker 3: in stone? It's going to be that forever.
- 38:13Speaker 4: That's going to be on my tombstone, you reckon?
- 38:14Speaker 3: Yeah, well, why why change perfection?
- 38:17Speaker 1: We've got it.
- 38:17Speaker 2: We've got a great name for it, for our little
- 38:20Speaker 2: rapid fire questions. So yeah, So they'll be dropping sometime soon,
- 38:23Speaker 2: same place. You'll see them, dribless, they'll come up here.
- 38:26Speaker 2: But yeah, they've been really interesting conversation, interesting to talk to.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Interesting to talk to people who are sitting at the
- 38:33Speaker 2: center of power in this country and ask them what
- 38:38Speaker 2: they're planning to do with our sport, and interesting to
- 38:41Speaker 2: see how what they intend to do with our sport
- 38:44Speaker 2: when they have this power.
- 38:46Speaker 3: And we would like it to be more, please.
- 38:49Speaker 4: More, more and more please, Not that we're Hey, this weekend,
- 38:53Speaker 4: everyone split round happening. So Round Mavreez played across this
- 38:58Speaker 4: weekend and next weekend, two games each weekend, and may
- 39:03Speaker 4: I focus on a little situation happening on Sunday called
- 39:06Speaker 4: the Swifts and the Thunderbirds. Oh yes, I know, I'm
- 39:10Speaker 4: a little excited. I wasn't meant to be working this weekend.
- 39:13Speaker 4: I got myself on that game.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Well play.
- 39:18Speaker 4: So I'm going to Adelaide on Sunday to do that.
- 39:19Speaker 4: I can't wait. It's going to be good. But it
- 39:21Speaker 4: means that just a couple of games, So you have
- 39:24Speaker 4: to find something else to do on your weekends.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Everyone, Well, I've booked a bit of a family tennis
- 39:28Speaker 1: match on Sunday morning and a bit of an Easter
- 39:31Speaker 1: egg hunt bit of a family tennis match, which is exciting.
- 39:33Speaker 1: But I actually made sure the booking would be over
- 39:35Speaker 1: in time for me to get home, have a shower,
- 39:38Speaker 1: pour a wine, and watch the Thunderbirds and Swifts well played.
- 39:42Speaker 4: I forgot it was Easter. That's how excited I'm about
- 39:44Speaker 4: this game.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Well, this is true, and I actually well I'm not
- 39:48Speaker 1: going to tell my family this, but I actually want
- 39:49Speaker 1: to be home by two o'clock so I can watch
- 39:52Speaker 1: the MAVs and the Giants as well, because I reckon
- 39:53Speaker 1: that'll be a cracker, that.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Will beckon, that'll be a good game.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Yeah, So that's Sunday sorted. I don't know what I'm
- 39:59Speaker 1: going to do on Saturday because this weekend I actually
- 40:01Speaker 1: don't have to go anywhere for sport. The weekend just gone.
- 40:04Speaker 1: We drove to Amadah, which is five hours away from
- 40:06Speaker 1: our place if you're telling a caravan, which we were,
- 40:09Speaker 1: and watched our daughter play rugby all day on the Saturday,
- 40:14Speaker 1: and then on you know, like hey, you start doing logistics.
- 40:17Speaker 1: So on Sunday my son had to be back for
- 40:20Speaker 1: cricket presentation at one and we were looking at the drawl, going, oh,
- 40:24Speaker 1: they'll probably come last in their pool. So they've been
- 40:26Speaker 1: playing off against the last and the other pool for
- 40:29Speaker 1: six So that game's at eight thirty. I reckon, we
- 40:31Speaker 1: could probably do it. Leave armad L by nine and
- 40:34Speaker 1: look could be tight, but we might get back in
- 40:36Speaker 1: time for the cricket presentation, and thank goodness, we decided
- 40:39Speaker 1: to take two cars. So we were pushing it because
- 40:41Speaker 1: Evelyn's team did not only lose all their games they
- 40:44Speaker 1: went through undefeated in their pool. They played in the
- 40:47Speaker 1: grand final. Instead of being at eight thirty on Sunday,
- 40:50Speaker 1: it was eleventh. So my husband thought he was going
- 40:53Speaker 1: to get half a day's work done on Sunday at
- 40:54Speaker 1: the farm and did it quiet work out. So that
- 40:57Speaker 1: was a long way to drive to watch some pretty
- 41:00Speaker 1: good sport being played.
- 41:02Speaker 4: How is she? More importantly, is she busted?
- 41:05Speaker 1: Oh she's so broken, you know, like it's a pretty
- 41:08Speaker 1: brutal sport. She's got this she got stepped on her neck,
- 41:11Speaker 1: got stepped on and it's got this big mark down it,
- 41:14Speaker 1: and she was winging and she was really upset about it.
- 41:16Speaker 1: And I was like, well it wouldn't have any netball, sweetheart,
- 41:18Speaker 1: so you make these choices. Yeah, yeah, I have zero sympathy.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Get back to the netball court where you won't get
- 41:24Speaker 1: stepped on on your neck with a spiky shoe. So Eddie,
- 41:28Speaker 1: who we're all home today and she is really struggling
- 41:31Speaker 1: to drag herself out of bed because she's busted and
- 41:33Speaker 1: giving him no sympathy.
- 41:35Speaker 4: The kids bounce back faster though, like how long would
- 41:37Speaker 4: it take her to get over that? Because I'd been
- 41:39Speaker 4: in bed for months you would be.
- 41:40Speaker 1: And I suspect she's probably drawing it out and hoping
- 41:43Speaker 1: that I'll keep doing stuff for her.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Well played everyone, smart kid, that one.
- 41:47Speaker 1: So actually, I'm looking forward to not having to drive
- 41:49Speaker 1: anywhere this weekend for sport. Mind you, that's where you
- 41:52Speaker 1: get the best conversations, isn't it with your kids? Like
- 41:54Speaker 1: you know, So I had ten hours in the car
- 41:56Speaker 1: on the weekend with my nine year old, with my
- 41:58Speaker 1: son with Austin, and we had some great chats. What
- 42:02Speaker 1: just because you're stuck in a car next to each.
- 42:05Speaker 4: Other, did you learn something you didn't know? Did you
- 42:08Speaker 4: tell you about a girlfriend you didn't know about anything?
- 42:12Speaker 1: Nah, he's not into girls. But it was good. I
- 42:14Speaker 1: got sort of I got a good update on his
- 42:17Speaker 1: friendship group and the stuff that like in the day
- 42:21Speaker 1: to day rush of things, you don't you just don't
- 42:23Speaker 1: have time to get them to that point to have
- 42:25Speaker 1: a conversation. So yeah, anyway, so and even though we
- 42:28Speaker 1: were going to his sport, I still liked the idea
- 42:31Speaker 1: that that's what that's one of the gifts that take
- 42:33Speaker 1: your kids all around the country to sport gives you
- 42:35Speaker 1: is you got lots of time in the car, and
- 42:37Speaker 1: on the way there, I had no battery in my phone.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I've forgotten to pump it up, so and I was
- 42:42Speaker 1: in Matthew's car, so I didn't have the charger. So
- 42:44Speaker 1: it's great. We actually had to spend the time talking
- 42:46Speaker 1: to each other on the way home, Catherine, we actually
- 42:49Speaker 1: listened to the Harry Potter audio books.
- 42:51Speaker 4: So there we go. So not just the movie but
- 42:56Speaker 4: the audio book.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Yeah, nearly five hours we listened to the started the
- 43:00Speaker 1: Deathly Hallows and then we got home and we were sitting
- 43:03Speaker 1: in the car for fifteen minutes while the chapter finished chapter.
- 43:08Speaker 4: Okay, next road trip, I've got That's what I'm doing.
- 43:10Speaker 4: I try not to do road trips, so that may
- 43:12Speaker 4: not happen for a little bit.
- 43:13Speaker 1: No, you don't love driving, do you.
- 43:15Speaker 4: I don't know. I think i'll just because I'm busted.
- 43:17Speaker 4: I think my hips hurt. Everything hurts. I get cramp
- 43:20Speaker 4: in my calf, keeping your foot in that position that
- 43:23Speaker 4: whole time.
- 43:25Speaker 1: You don't get in your calf drinking wine in quantious land.
- 43:30Speaker 4: O. God, what now we are running out of time.
- 43:35Speaker 4: We need to do our wind beneath our wing up.
- 43:37Speaker 4: We haven't had a nomination come through. But I'm throwing
- 43:39Speaker 4: this out there for a couple of reasons because I
- 43:41Speaker 4: want the printy wine voucher, but also I think Patrick
- 43:46Speaker 4: deserves it after all his efforts on the weekend, yes,
- 43:51Speaker 4: and the amount of kilometers he ran back and forth
- 43:54Speaker 4: onto the court and after a big day of umpiring,
- 43:57Speaker 4: he deserves it, Sir Patrick, if there's no objections from
- 44:01Speaker 4: the rest of the dribbling team here, we would like
- 44:03Speaker 4: to nominate you for our wing Beneath our wings.
- 44:05Speaker 1: You're a favor. Hi, yeah, Hi, Carolyn.
- 44:10Speaker 4: I let's tell the truth.
- 44:12Speaker 1: She's dropped out her The link to Amsterdam is unstable,
- 44:18Speaker 1: and is anyone surprised about that? I mean, we've all
- 44:21Speaker 1: been to Amsterdam.
- 44:22Speaker 4: God, so you reckon it's Carolyn's link that's unstable.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Look not.
- 44:26Speaker 1: A cast Nastasians, but you know she's in Amsterdam and
- 44:29Speaker 1: it's two am, so God knows what's going on. So
- 44:31Speaker 1: what I'm Catherine? You're driving the bus beautifully.
- 44:34Speaker 4: Oh thank you? Now should we finish them because it
- 44:36Speaker 4: is like we're coming up to an hour, We've got
- 44:38Speaker 4: to do some editing and we've lost her. Just look
- 44:42Speaker 4: like she's coming back.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Do you want me to pretend to me. Carolyn. Oh,
- 44:45Speaker 1: she's bad.
- 44:46Speaker 4: She's back to sign off. We've just done our Wind
- 44:48Speaker 4: beneath Our Wings without you.
- 44:52Speaker 2: So no, I think that's good. I feel like you
- 44:55Speaker 2: should go on without me. I'm sorry, but I don't
- 44:57Speaker 2: know what's happening with the internet over here. There's a
- 45:00Speaker 2: there's a special cafe downstairs at the apartment that I'm staying,
- 45:03Speaker 2: so maybe it's slowing down my internet.
- 45:06Speaker 4: Well, we just nominated Patrick for a Wind beneath our
- 45:09Speaker 4: Wings and we thought always in favors Aye, we did
- 45:12Speaker 4: eye on your behalf.
- 45:13Speaker 3: But you're okay with that fantasy? Or I appreciate that
- 45:16Speaker 3: because I would have eyed. I would have eyed that.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Great.
- 45:19Speaker 4: All right, Well, you can wrap us up there while
- 45:20Speaker 4: you're home, while you're here if you want, before you
- 45:22Speaker 4: go again.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Yeah, before I get chucked off again. Yeah, so sorry
- 45:26Speaker 2: about that. I've got dodgy internet at the moment, but
- 45:28Speaker 2: I've been in and out. But yeah, nice to be
- 45:31Speaker 2: able to come back in to sign off and say everyone,
- 45:33Speaker 2: have a really great week.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Hope you it is.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Not going well.
- 45:39Speaker 4: Can't hear a word, Carolyn? Can you hear us?
- 45:41Speaker 1: Right? Catherine? I think you should just do this zide.
- 45:43Speaker 4: Rap it up. I've spoken too much today.
- 45:45Speaker 1: No, I've spoken heats you go, you're in the studio.
- 45:48Speaker 4: Okay, Well that's us done here for another week. Everybody.
- 45:51Speaker 4: Thank you for joining us. Two games and Nettie to
- 45:54Speaker 4: look forward to this weekend. I'm Catherine cooxon City. We're
- 45:57Speaker 4: not even going to wait for Carolyn's Windell announced it
