- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Your mission is to guess who or what you are before the big reveal at the end.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Are you ready to look in the mystery mirror?
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Alright detectives, let's begin.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Round one, you are a person.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: You lived long ago, around the time of the second Beta Magdash, Holy Temple, and you became a respected leader and teacher.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: People listened carefully to your ideas and your teachings.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Do you know who you are yet?
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Round two.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: You were known for being very patient and kind.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: When you were younger, you did not have much money, and there's a story that you could not afford to enter the study hall to learn Torah, and instead you climbed onto the roof so you could listen through the window.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: While you listened, snow piled on top of you, and eventually people found you there and rescued you.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Now do you have any idea of who you could be?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Round three.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Many things Jewish people practice today are connected to your teachings.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: We light Hanukka candles by adding one candle each night because of what you taught.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: And at the Pesach or Passover Seder, we still remember one of your customs by eating a sandwich of matza and marr.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: You taught many important lessons about how people should behave toward one another, and one famous lesson you taught was treat others the way you want to be treated.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: You actually once said that this idea is the summary of the whole Torah on one foot.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Now do you know who you are?
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Are you ready for the reveal?
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Look in the mirror.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: You are Hillel, Mozletove, Mystery Solved.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Did you know sometimes people tested Hillel's patience on purpose?
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: They bothered him, and he stayed calm anyway.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And there are stories about a man annoying him with silly questions while he was in the bathhouse, but Hillel answered each question very patiently.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Hillel later became the Nasi, the leader of the Jewish people, and he helped answer difficult questions and make big decisions.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: People often called him Hillel Hazaken, which means Hillel the elder.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And Hillel and another sage named Shamai would often disagree about Jewish law.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Jewish people still study many of their debates today.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Get ready for game time, let's play Finish the Rhyme.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: I'll say a short poem and I'll leave the last word out for you to fill in.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Listen carefully and use rhyme to help you.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Number one.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Hillel couldn't pay to learn Torah down below.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: They found him way on top one time, all covered in What goes in the blink?
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Snow.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Number two.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Each night of Hanukkah our candles glow so bright.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Hill taught us to add one more every single What goes in the blink?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Night.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: And finally, number three.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: The Torah on one foot?
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Almost sounds like a game.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: But Hill taught treat others the way you would want the what goes in the blank?
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Same.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: And now it's time for your mystery mirror mission.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Write or draw one way people should treat others kindly.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Think of something you appreciate when others do it, or something that bothers you when others do it.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Write about it or draw it, and take a picture and ask a grown-up to send it to mirror at that Jewish Moment.com.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: If you color in the coloring page, please send me a picture.
