- 0:00Time out or back to the basics in healthcare with balanced life chiropractic. I
- 0:03have doctor Harley joining us. How you know, doctor Harley, Hey John,
- 0:06I'm doing fantastic. It's been a good start to the week. Yeah,
- 0:09and you know, the weather's kind of feeling pretty nice, which is
- 0:12good. One of the things we're going to chat about this week is there
- 0:16are people who maybe sometimes get chiropractic mixed up with some other things because there's
- 0:20some similar bit different things. So I know people who do massage, and
- 0:24there's like massage therapists, but there's also like physical therapists who do similar but
- 0:29that's all different than chiropractic. So let's talk a little bit about what the
- 0:33differences are in those things. Right, We've talked so much about hey go
- 0:36see a chiropract drilling these things. But you know, there's a lot of
- 0:39other options on the market for when you have you know, say, back
- 0:42pain. What are some of the steps you could do? Right? Typically,
- 0:46you might think, oh, I'm gonna take some IV profen some over
- 0:48the counter stuff help with some of the aches and pains. I'll do a
- 0:50little bit stretching, you know, use some heat or ice. Those are
- 0:54all really good things you can be doing at home. But if things aren't
- 0:57getting better by that point, now you're starting to look okaye, where should
- 1:00I turn to next? So I could get a massage that'd feel good,
- 1:03But then lot's always nice, right, you know, massages are great,
- 1:06but sometimes you feel like it didn't do anything, or you felt worse afterwards,
- 1:10or everything just came right back. So massage can be kind of temporary
- 1:14unless you're going repetitively, but a lot of people don't do that. So
- 1:18then you look at well PT. My primary says, go see a PT,
- 1:21and that's physical therapist, right, physical therapist. I just want to
- 1:23break that down. I use a lot of acronyms, so good to say
- 1:26that, which PTS a really great option to for that back pain. You
- 1:30know, they're focusing more on the muscles, the muscles are really tight,
- 1:34or they're not tight enough, they're not working enough in another area. They'll
- 1:37show you some stretches and exercises you can be doing, you know, so
- 1:41there's some options there with PT, where chiropractic we're looking more at, you
- 1:46know, what's causing this back problem and how do we keep it from coming
- 1:49back? All the time. That's not saying your PT and your massage therapists
- 1:53aren't doing that, but they're focusing more on the muscle systems, where chiropractic
- 1:57we're focusing more on the structural your spot, making sure that's improper alignment and
- 2:01moving like it's supposed to, because that's what your muscles connect to. So
- 2:05if your spine is stuck, your muscles are going to keep having to work
- 2:08harder. So then when you get a massage, the problems still there.
- 2:13So chiropractic we're trying to fix the underlying problem, so then the other things
- 2:16like PT and massage can advance you even farther. So ideally everything all together
- 2:22is really great. Obviously the chiropracticm I say you should start at chiropractic,
- 2:25but then that's because we're really trying to find the root cause of the problem
- 2:30and the others they're going to help with a lot of the symptoms. And
- 2:32one of the things I like about the way you do chiropractic because even in
- 2:37just that one category, there's a bunch of different ways people do it.
- 2:39One of the things I really like is it's more of a scientific method because
- 2:43when I come in it's not just laid out I'm going to jump on you
- 2:46and snap some things. There are some places to do that, and again
- 2:49more power too, that's what you're into, but I'm not into that.
- 2:52I like that you do X rays, that you do a ton of different
- 2:55tests and make sure that you're fixing what is actually the problem. And I
- 3:00think that's a really smart thing to do, right. You know, you're
- 3:02telling you us you have pain problems in one spot, but the problem really
- 3:07could be stemming from somewhere else. There's things called referred pain. So we're
- 3:12making sure that your body is moving like it's supposed to, your nervous system
- 3:15is functioning like it's supposed to, and all of those things are going to
- 3:20help with the better health and healing process versus if we just did massage and
- 3:24stretching. You know, if there's still a nerve problem or a skeletal problem,
- 3:29something that's out of alignment, right, those muscles are still having to
- 3:31overwork or maybe they're not working enough. So chiropract is going to help with
- 3:37all of those other things as well. Like I said, ideally it's best
- 3:40if you can get a chiropractor PT and massage like have all of those on
- 3:44hand. Everydy on speed dial right. You know, we're all helping our
- 3:47patient to get better. If somebody listening is going you know what, I've
- 3:52tried some other things and it hasn't donehen I needed or if there's gone,
- 3:53I haven't tried anything. I need some help though. What is the best
