- 0:47Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and story along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 1: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 1: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said,
- 1:28Speaker 2: will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.
- 1:34Speaker 2: John seven thirty eight. As we've continued our discussion and
- 1:40Speaker 2: study on the power of the Holy Spirit, I have
- 1:45Speaker 2: been impressed by recently reading Andrew Murray's experiencing the Holy Spirit.
- 1:55Speaker 2: It has been a vital aspect of instruction, but even
- 2:02Speaker 2: more so it has been an encouragement for the body
- 2:06Speaker 2: of Christ. I'm want to be able to cover a
- 2:09Speaker 2: few things that he covers in his book, and one
- 2:17Speaker 2: of the things that he does refer to is what
- 2:22Speaker 2: takes place with the believer on their own Pentecostal experience.
- 2:30Speaker 2: One of the things is that the blessing of Pentecost
- 2:36Speaker 2: makes the Word of God new. We see this fact
- 2:41Speaker 2: distinctly in the case of the Disciples, as with all
- 2:46Speaker 2: the Jews of that age, their ideas of the Messiah
- 2:50Speaker 2: and the Kingdom of God were external and carnal. All
- 2:54Speaker 2: the instruction of the Lord Jesus throughout three long years
- 3:00Speaker 2: not changed their way of thinking. They were unable to
- 3:03Speaker 2: comprehend the doctrine of a suffering and dying Messiah or
- 3:08Speaker 2: the hope of his invisible spiritual dominion. Even after his resurrection,
- 3:15Speaker 2: he had to rebuke them for their unbelieving spirit and
- 3:19Speaker 2: their inability to understand the scriptures. With the coming of
- 3:24Speaker 2: the Day of Pentecost, an entire change took place. Their
- 3:28Speaker 2: ancient scriptures opened up before them. The light of the
- 3:32Speaker 2: Holy Spirit in them illumined the Word. In the preaching
- 3:37Speaker 2: of Peter and Stephen, and in the addresses of Paul
- 3:40Speaker 2: and James, we see how a divine light had shone
- 3:45Speaker 2: on the Old Testament. They saw everything through the spirit
- 3:50Speaker 2: of this Lord Jesus, who had made his abode within them,
- 3:56Speaker 2: and so it will be with us. It is necess
- 4:00Speaker 2: to meditate on the scriptures and keep the Word of
- 4:04Speaker 2: God in our thoughts, heart and daily walk. Let us, however,
- 4:10Speaker 2: constantly remember that it is only when we are filled
- 4:14Speaker 2: with the Spirit that we can fully experience the spiritual
- 4:18Speaker 2: power and truth of the Word. He is the spirit
- 4:23Speaker 2: of truth, and he alone guides us into all truth
- 4:27Speaker 2: when he dwells in us. Another reason is power to
- 4:33Speaker 2: bless others. The divine power of the Exalted Jesus to
- 4:40Speaker 2: grant repentance and the forgiveness of sins is exercised by
- 4:45Speaker 2: Him through his servants. The minister of the gospel who
- 4:50Speaker 2: desires to preach repentance and forgiveness through Jesus and have
- 4:55Speaker 2: success in winning souls, must do the work in the
- 4:59Speaker 2: power of the Spirit of Jesus. Much preaching of conversion
- 5:04Speaker 2: and pardon is fruitless because these elements of truth are
- 5:09Speaker 2: presented only as a doctrine. Some preachers try to reach
- 5:15Speaker 2: the hearts of their audience in the power of mere
- 5:18Speaker 2: human earnestness, reasoning, and eloquence, but little blessing is one.
- 5:24Speaker 2: By these means, the man whose chief desire is to
- 5:28Speaker 2: be filled with the Spirit of the indwelling Christ can
- 5:32Speaker 2: be assured that the glorified Lord will speak and work
- 5:38Speaker 2: in him. He will obtain the blessing, not always in
- 5:42Speaker 2: the same manner, but it will always certainly come in
- 5:48Speaker 2: preaching and in the daily life of a servant of Christ.
- 5:52Speaker 2: The full blessing of Pentecost is the sure way of
- 5:56Speaker 2: becoming a blessing to others. Believe it on me, said Jesus.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
- 6:09Speaker 2: The King James version of John seven thirty eight. This
- 6:14Speaker 2: refers to the Holy Spirit. Our heart, filled with the
- 6:19Speaker 2: Spirit will overflow with the Spirit. It is this blessing
- 6:26Speaker 2: of Pentecost that will make the Church today what God
- 6:31Speaker 2: would have her to be. We've spoken of what the
- 6:36Speaker 2: Spirit will do in individual believers. Think of what the
- 6:40Speaker 2: blessing will be when the Church as a whole answers
- 6:44Speaker 2: her calling to be filled with the Spirit and exhibits
- 6:49Speaker 2: the life, the power, and the very presence of our
- 6:52Speaker 2: Lord to this world. We must not only seek and
- 6:57Speaker 2: receive this blessing each person form, but we must also
- 7:02Speaker 2: remember that the full manifestation of the blessing cannot be
- 7:07Speaker 2: given until the whole body of Christ receives it. Whether
- 7:11Speaker 2: one member suffers, all the members suffer with it. In
- 7:16Speaker 2: one Corinthians twelve twenty six. If we're many members of
- 7:21Speaker 2: the Church of Jesus Christ and we are content to
- 7:26Speaker 2: remain without this blessing, the whole church will suffer. Even
- 7:32Speaker 2: in individual disciples, the blessing cannot come to its full manifestation. Therefore,
- 7:39Speaker 2: it is of the utmost importance that we should not
- 7:43Speaker 2: only think of what being filled with the spirit means
- 7:47Speaker 2: for ourselves, but also consider what it will do for
- 7:53Speaker 2: the church. Will you separate yourself? Let us recall the
- 7:59Speaker 2: more of the day of Pentecost. At that time the
- 8:04Speaker 2: Christian Church in Jerusalem consisted only of one hundred and
- 8:09Speaker 2: twenty disciples, and most of them were poor, unlearned fishermen,
- 8:15Speaker 2: tax collectors, and humble women. We were looking at a
- 8:20Speaker 2: very insignificant and despised gathering. Yet it was by these
- 8:26Speaker 2: believers that the Kingdom of God had to be proclaimed
- 8:30Speaker 2: and extended, and they did it by them and those
- 8:35Speaker 2: who were added to them. The power of Jewish prejudice
- 8:40Speaker 2: and the pagan hardness of heart was overcome, and the
- 8:44Speaker 2: Church of Christ won glorious triumphs. This grand result was
- 8:51Speaker 2: achieved simply and only because the first Christian Church was
- 8:55Speaker 2: filled with the spirit. The members of it gave them
- 9:00Speaker 2: themselves holy totally to their Lord. They allowed themselves to
- 9:05Speaker 2: be filled, consecrated, governed, and used only by him. They
- 9:11Speaker 2: yielded themselves to him as instruments of his power. He
- 9:16Speaker 2: dwelt in them and used them for all his wondrous deeds.
- 9:22Speaker 2: It is to this same experience that the Church of
- 9:26Speaker 2: Christ in our own age must be brought back. This
- 9:31Speaker 2: is the only thing that will help her in the
- 9:35Speaker 2: conflict with sin and the world. She must be filled
- 9:41Speaker 2: with the Spirit. Beloved fellow believers, this call comes to
- 9:47Speaker 2: you and I in the whole Church of the Lord Jesus.
- 9:51Speaker 2: This one thing is needed. We have to be filled
- 9:56Speaker 2: with the Holy Spirit. Do not imagine that you must
- 10:00Speaker 2: apprehend or understand it all before you seek and find it.
- 10:05Speaker 2: For those who wait on him, God will do more
- 10:08Speaker 2: than they can even conceive. You must taste the happiness,
- 10:13Speaker 2: know by personal experience, the blessedness of having Jesus in
- 10:19Speaker 2: your heart. Then His spirit of holiness and humility, of
- 10:24Speaker 2: love and self sacrifice, and of courage and power will
- 10:29Speaker 2: become as natural as your very own spirit. If you
- 10:34Speaker 2: have the Word of God in you, you will be
- 10:37Speaker 2: able to carry it as a blessing to others. If
- 10:40Speaker 2: you desire to see the Church of the Lord Jesus
- 10:44Speaker 2: a raid in her finest splendor, then separate yourselves from
- 10:50Speaker 2: everything that is evil, cast it out of your own heart,
- 10:55Speaker 2: and fix your desire on this one thing to be
- 11:01Speaker 2: filled with the Holy Spirit of God. Received this as
- 11:06Speaker 2: your rightful heritage, appropriated, and hold it by faith. It
- 11:13Speaker 2: will certainly be given to you. For as many as
- 11:21Speaker 2: ask the Father, he will give the Holy Spirit. We
- 11:28Speaker 2: know that today the Church has an influence which has
- 11:35Speaker 2: diminished in society, and the reason is that the Church
- 11:42Speaker 2: does not have the demonstrated power in its totality as
- 11:49Speaker 2: the early Church experienced. Over the years, we have substituted
- 11:55Speaker 2: intellectual reasoning and all forms of educated instruction, but we
- 12:05Speaker 2: have forfeited in many ways the power to allow the
- 12:10Speaker 2: Holy Spirit to change lives. I'm reminded of a story
- 12:17Speaker 2: which is an account of an early Christian evangelist. He
- 12:25Speaker 2: was addressed by an older evangelist, and the question was,
- 12:32Speaker 2: when you preach, do you believe that others are going
- 12:38Speaker 2: to be saved? And the young evangelist said, I hope so.
- 12:46Speaker 2: And the older, more experienced evangelists made a statement and
- 12:52Speaker 2: he said, that is your problem. Now. I don't understand
- 12:59Speaker 2: all of the reason that the young evangelist was hoping
- 13:04Speaker 2: rather than in trusting the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 13:10Speaker 2: But he came to recognize that what he needed and
- 13:16Speaker 2: what we need, is the power of the Holy Spirit
- 13:21Speaker 2: which overcomes the world. You see, believers, the scripture says,
- 13:29Speaker 2: greater is he that is in you than he that
- 13:35Speaker 2: is in the world. If we are looking for a victorious, joyous,
- 13:45Speaker 2: glorious church, that is what Jesus is coming back for.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Are we there? I pray that we seek more earnestly
- 14:01Speaker 2: the fullness of the Spirit every day. It is not
- 14:06Speaker 2: enough to be filled one time, not if you're going
- 14:12Speaker 2: to be used of God. We are as the scripture says,
- 14:17Speaker 2: vessels that leap. In other words, our bodies are the
- 14:24Speaker 2: temple of the Holy Spirit. When we are filled with
- 14:29Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit, we are able to overflow with the
- 14:34Speaker 2: Holy Spirit to others. And remember one of the main
- 14:40Speaker 2: reasons that the Holy Spirit has actually been quint in
- 14:46Speaker 2: many cases, both in the Church and individually in our
- 14:51Speaker 2: own lives, is because of unforgiveness. Remember, believer, Jesus breathed
- 15:00Speaker 2: on his own disciples, and he gave the Holy Spirit
- 15:06Speaker 2: and with that the power to forgive sins. He said,
- 15:14Speaker 2: whosoever sins you forgive, they are forgiven them. But whosoever
- 15:22Speaker 2: sins you retain, they are not forgiven. We'll talk more
- 15:29Speaker 2: about that in another segment. But remember it is the
- 15:35Speaker 2: power of the Holy Spirit working in us that can
- 15:41Speaker 2: accomplish the works that Jesus said his body would do.
- 15:49Speaker 2: In John chapter fourteen and verse twelve, it was simply stated,
- 15:55Speaker 2: greater works than these will you do because I go
- 16:02Speaker 2: to my father.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 16:08Speaker 1: But if you just joined us you've been listening to

- 16:41Speaker 1: k include Great is Thy Faithfulness by Our Daily Bread
- 16:45Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard
- 16:49Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 16:53Speaker 2: And then the Holy Spirit will be sent. Referred to
- 16:59Speaker 2: as the comforter, the helper, the parentle. The Holy Spirit
- 17:06Speaker 2: is the third person of the Godhead. He is God.
- 17:13Speaker 2: He is the same holiness of God, the Father, and
- 17:19Speaker 2: the Lord Jesus. He is God. We must realize he
- 17:27Speaker 2: is not just some force that we can summon. He
- 17:33Speaker 2: is God Almighty, inhabiting us so that we can complete
- 17:42Speaker 2: the great commission. And that is today's reflection on the Word.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Thank you Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 17:53Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 17:56Speaker 1: Richard King or Richard the entire team. This is Chuck
- 18:00Speaker 1: Risty saying thanks for listening to this edition of Reflections
- 18:03Speaker 1: on the Word. Sh
