- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to The Bad Hire.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Thank you for having me, Thank you for having.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Us, Emma. You're both part of our production team marketing team,
- 0:18Speaker 1: So glad to have you. That's kind of cool.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yep. Been the company for three years now and straight
- 0:23Speaker 2: out of college and have never looked back since, and
- 0:26Speaker 2: I loved every moment of it. But The Bad Hire
- 0:28Speaker 2: is kind of a newer thing for us, and so
- 0:31Speaker 2: it's nice to be on the podcast and be able
- 0:33Speaker 2: to produce it.
- 0:34Speaker 1: And well, I hope we get some good time with
- 0:36Speaker 1: you guys. I hope we get good stories.
- 0:37Speaker 2: We will for sure.
- 0:39Speaker 1: We run that ten thousand dollars contest and people submit it,
- 0:41Speaker 1: and I hope that we get some really cool stories
- 0:44Speaker 1: and we get to read some fun stories. I know
- 0:45Speaker 1: you guys will enjoy reading I think them as they
- 0:48Speaker 1: get submitted and recommending which ones to put on the show.
- 0:51Speaker 1: So I think that's really cool. So here here's one
- 0:55Speaker 1: from reddit. Okay, okay, you ready.
- 0:58Speaker 2: We're going straight into the reddit.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Read it on all right, So you'll have to tell
- 1:02Speaker 1: me if you think these are good stories. You know,
- 1:05Speaker 1: bad stories a lot of them read.
- 1:08Speaker 2: So that's why we're here, right.
- 1:10Speaker 1: We we we hired someone who is not the person.
- 1:15Speaker 1: We interviewed my CEO and my CEO and his influential
- 1:21Speaker 1: friends researched and was able to confirm this was a
- 1:25Speaker 1: different person. Before the end of his first day, he
- 1:29Speaker 1: fired him.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Oh God, fired the first.
- 1:33Speaker 1: How does that happen? I don't know, Like, we hired
- 1:36Speaker 1: someone who is not the person.
- 1:39Speaker 3: It wasn't the same, like the same person they thought
- 1:43Speaker 3: they were bringing in, Like it was completely different humans.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Like they interviewed. I guess went through the whole process
- 1:48Speaker 2: and came to the job and some other dude. Oh,
- 1:51Speaker 2: he was like, here's my filler.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, he paid somebody to go to the interview for him.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Can I get one of those?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Dude, do my interview? You're good at it? Then I'm
- 2:01Speaker 1: going to show up. They won't know a thing.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I mean, that's like sales. You like, you have your
- 2:05Speaker 2: SDR and then you know the person who's actually good
- 2:07Speaker 2: demo apletely different person.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's true, all right, here's one. I hired a
- 2:16Speaker 1: tech one for it. Guys spend his time walking around
- 2:22Speaker 1: and talking about how poorly he was paid and how
- 2:25Speaker 1: he did actually and how he didn't be there. Like
- 2:30Speaker 1: two weeks into the job. I let him go a
- 2:32Speaker 1: month in Probably shouldn't talk about how poorly you're paid
- 2:35Speaker 1: after right after acceptance?
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yeah, why would you accept it to begin with?
- 2:39Speaker 3: Complaining does not help?
- 2:41Speaker 1: Right lasted a month. I think interviews are actually really
- 2:45Speaker 1: hard to do since they seldom correlate the how they'll
- 2:48Speaker 1: actually function at work. Yeah, it's that is. Two of
- 2:54Speaker 1: them were laid off. I guess this person is talking
- 2:59Speaker 1: about the hired two or more. Two of them were
- 3:02Speaker 1: laid off and one of them I'm actually putting on
- 3:05Speaker 1: a p i P. You know what a p P
- 3:08Speaker 1: Personal improvement plan. Oh yeah, it means you're in trouble.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I put you on that to tell you what you
- 3:16Speaker 1: got to do to not be in trouble because your
- 3:17Speaker 1: performance isn't got a performance improvement plan Personal improvement plan,
- 3:22Speaker 1: that's what PIP stands for. People can interview very well
- 3:25Speaker 1: but end up being a fraud. I wish I knew
- 3:28Speaker 1: better questions to ask to weed out someone who actually
- 3:30Speaker 1: knows what they're doing versus not knowing.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Okay, okay, okay, I see like on the job.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Or just in general.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Maybe both.
- 3:39Speaker 2: That's great.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just glad I don't know can you imagine
- 3:49Speaker 4: putting someone on a P I P week two.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I mean we hired we fired somebody week two. I remember,
- 3:56Speaker 2: not that long ago. I was a part of that. Actually, yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 2: that was pretty brutal.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Just open up the interview. Commit any Crowns lately.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Yeah, literally, this came in a dream employee after probation,
- 4:18Speaker 1: literally the day after probation, they're talking about their employment probation.
- 4:21Speaker 1: That's like the ninety days of probation you have when
- 4:24Speaker 1: you first get there. I guess, follow the rules in
- 4:26Speaker 1: probation and you're going okay. So after probation, literally the
- 4:29Speaker 1: day after probation, they became a nightmare, argued about their
- 4:34Speaker 1: starting pay, stated they don't get paid to do most
- 4:39Speaker 1: of the stuff we're asking them. They lasted a year
- 4:42Speaker 1: or two because they repeatedly argued with me, refused a lot,
- 4:48Speaker 1: tried to get his teammates riled up.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It was a lesson, though it sounds like a toxic relationship.
- 4:55Speaker 1: The lesson was you would two years, yeah, like ninety
- 4:59Speaker 1: days for a year if they were Yeah, this is
- 5:03Speaker 1: apparently the person who hires them, and they're like they
- 5:06Speaker 1: know on the ninety first day that it's a nightmare
- 5:10Speaker 1: and two years later there, Yeah, that's all he was.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Was that just a bad hire from the beginning. I
- 5:23Speaker 1: hired a person who had the qualifications. I was looking
- 5:26Speaker 1: for the experience. I needed the certifications that were the
- 5:32Speaker 1: bonus on the job listing. And had an amazing three
- 5:37Speaker 1: interviews and got along with everyone. It seemed so great.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I was so excited. First day arrives, he's fifteen minutes late, No, biggie, Yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 1: he got caught by the train right by our office.
- 5:53Speaker 1: He had no way of knowing this train schedule, Yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 1: couldn't have checked in advance going on the internet, or
- 6:02Speaker 1: he had no way of knowing the train schedule.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:05Speaker 1: But then he came in and was ranting about the
- 6:08Speaker 1: incompetent train conductors not knowing how to navigate a switch,
- 6:13Speaker 1: saying how he could do it better. And I asked
- 6:15Speaker 1: him if he was a train conductor in a previous life,
- 6:18Speaker 1: because it was nowhere in his resume. That was our
- 6:22Speaker 1: first clue. Then, while he was supposed to be watching
- 6:28Speaker 1: those stupid onboarding videos, he was walking around telling people
- 6:35Speaker 1: about all the changes he was going to make to
- 6:38Speaker 1: make to make things so much better like his old company,
- 6:42Speaker 1: and Then he proceeded to talk about how great their systems,
- 6:45Speaker 1: et cetera were compared to ours. Second clue. Next, he
- 6:50Speaker 1: went into the chemical engineering department and told one of
- 6:52Speaker 1: the engineers that he was there to shake things up,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and started telling him how to do things differently. Sir,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you're here to be a chemical analyst. Sit down.
- 7:03Speaker 3: What position is this guy?
- 7:07Speaker 1: Apparently the secret CEO. Then he decided his lunch should
- 7:11Speaker 1: be over an hour because he's new and needs the
- 7:14Speaker 1: extra time decompress his brain and relax. Oh, he decided
- 7:18Speaker 1: his lunch would be over an hour because he needed
- 7:20Speaker 1: the extrame. He came back and went to the quality
- 7:22Speaker 1: department and told them they shouldn't be allowed to quality
- 7:25Speaker 1: control chemicals. I walked him out. After that, he lasted six.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Hours six hours at a job.
- 7:35Speaker 1: How like four of those were working and two of
- 7:39Speaker 1: those were his decompression lunch.
- 7:42Speaker 2: How do you take a decompression lunch on the first day?
- 7:47Speaker 3: I guess when you think you know everything about everything.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Seriously, you're you're you're about to fix this company.
- 7:52Speaker 3: It's exhausting.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It is exhausting knowing everything. Yeah, that was that was funny.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I hired someone remote, I hired someone remote who would
- 8:09Speaker 1: take team calls shirtless, laying in bed, laying in bed,
- 8:18Speaker 1: phone down on the counter, while he was making lunch.
- 8:22Speaker 1: So he was all this together. He would make team
- 8:27Speaker 1: calls shirtless, He would make team calls laying in bed.
- 8:30Speaker 1: He would do team calls while he put the phone
- 8:33Speaker 1: down on the counter and made his lunch, et cetera.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Sounds like he thought he was on faceto as.
- 8:41Speaker 1: No idea how to present himself. He got on a
- 8:45Speaker 1: he got on a client call while laying in bed
- 8:49Speaker 1: and Nuzzley and his cat what ultimately what ultimately was
- 8:56Speaker 1: the last straw because the cat, uh, the cat wasn't one?
- 9:00Speaker 1: What oldimate was the last row? Was? He was doing
- 9:04Speaker 1: bong hits, My god.
- 9:07Speaker 2: On the call a client call, like even, I mean,
- 9:11Speaker 2: it doesn't really matter on the call. What job is this?
- 9:16Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 9:19Speaker 2: This?
- 9:21Speaker 1: You know. We once had a we had a programmer
- 9:26Speaker 1: one time who was a remote worker and uh and
- 9:32Speaker 1: I used the word work, not remote, uh liberally and
- 9:37Speaker 1: he uh and he forgot his camera wasn't on and
- 9:42Speaker 1: he was laying in bed. He looked like he hadn't
- 9:45Speaker 1: gotten up in four days.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I remember that, Yeah, yeah, well, times like they need
- 9:51Speaker 2: to update their remote work agreement.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, like you do you really have to put
- 9:58Speaker 1: in writing you must wear sure? Apparently don't your cat.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Apparently we do have a remote work like policy though
- 10:06Speaker 2: for address Like, yeah, so, I mean maybe they need one. Well,
- 10:12Speaker 2: I mean I think you need to tell them.
- 10:14Speaker 1: What gets me about this one is he goes he
- 10:17Speaker 1: got on a client hall while laying in bed and
- 10:19Speaker 1: nuzzliness cat, right, but then says what the ultimate last
- 10:25Speaker 1: straw was? Like that?
- 10:27Speaker 2: How many chances did they give him? How many straw
- 10:30Speaker 2: how many straws?
- 10:34Speaker 1: I don't know. Here's another one from Reddit. Had a
- 10:39Speaker 1: guy interview well and seemed to know his stuff. He did,
- 10:44Speaker 1: but his confidence was just the tip of a larger
- 10:47Speaker 1: iceberg of arrogance and swagger. Any skills that he had
- 10:52Speaker 1: were overshadowed by his gratify his grading personality. He referred
- 10:57Speaker 1: to himself in the third person god like he was like,
- 11:01Speaker 1: he was quoting a greater person red flag. What if
- 11:06Speaker 1: you did that in the interview, Yeah, Robert's a great hire.
- 11:09Speaker 1: You should hire.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Robert said that Emma's a great hire.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it was. Emma's a great higher high she's a
- 11:19Speaker 1: she was, she's she's a farmer's daughter. A lot I
- 11:28Speaker 1: get to see you look a look at me. Emma's
- 11:30Speaker 1: great high You should hire she's the daughter of achian farmer.
- 11:34Speaker 1: You know, you know I love that. As this Robert
- 11:38Speaker 1: always says, opinions are like butts. Now he's this is
- 11:42Speaker 1: him quoting him. As this, Robert always says opinions are
- 11:48Speaker 1: like butts. Everyone has one, followed by a Harvard style laughter,
- 11:53Speaker 1: can you do that for me?
- 11:55Speaker 3: But I don't believe.
- 12:00Speaker 2: She doesn't know what?
- 12:03Speaker 1: And a smughead wobble. He was too casual to upper management.
- 12:08Speaker 1: He'd invite himself to private meetings, acting like some old
- 12:11Speaker 1: hat experienced executive. What is an old hat.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Experiences somebody who's been at the company for a long time, Okay.
- 12:21Speaker 1: An old hat an old hat. Until he was asked
- 12:25Speaker 1: to leave, we got a lot of complaints about his behavior.
- 12:28Speaker 1: It was like he assumed being hired meant he had
- 12:31Speaker 1: to play the part of some higher up manager, only
- 12:34Speaker 1: he was several degrees off of reading the room as
- 12:37Speaker 1: it were.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Sounds like he was just socially awkward a little bit.
- 12:40Speaker 1: And treated his peers like subordinates. He also started projects
- 12:43Speaker 1: nobody asked him to do and wrote in coworkers, this
- 12:46Speaker 1: sounds like a rant. This is a stream of conscience.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Complain about this guy in your complaints, Yeah.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Complain about your coworker.
- 12:59Speaker 2: And wrote co workers complained players Yeah, and wrote.
- 13:05Speaker 1: In coworkers and random project myners into these projects until
- 13:07Speaker 1: he was told to stop. Good nights. This person keeps going.
- 13:13Speaker 1: We worked on his behavior, but this person is rant theme.
- 13:19Speaker 1: This is clearly this was therapy. Yeah, just passively, Jerry,
- 13:25Speaker 1: I need you to send out some emails on behalf
- 13:26Speaker 1: of the team. But oh, get our boss's approval. I
- 13:30Speaker 1: guess because he do air quotes.
- 13:34Speaker 2: So he made other people do his storty work for him.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Pretty much.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Definitely wrote this down in his notes app waiting for
- 13:39Speaker 3: the day he got to use it.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Yeah, this you tell him whoever wrote this? Yeah, you
- 13:43Speaker 1: just kept going back to different things, you know, and
- 13:46Speaker 1: I don't know. I hope you don't do that.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Do that work?
- 13:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I hope you don't do that, or I hope
- 13:50Speaker 1: you don't have a running notes pad run it? Do
- 13:52Speaker 1: you have that? You have like a running complaint where
- 13:55Speaker 1: you just go there and write bad stuff.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Never even thought of that. Maybe I should well mentioned it, Like,
- 14:03Speaker 2: I just think about how I use my Yeah you
- 14:06Speaker 2: to write down right now your thoughts?
- 14:08Speaker 3: That sounds like what that is?
- 14:09Speaker 1: Yeah, this sounds like a collection of random thoughts.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Yeah that they just keep adding.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Yeah a little bit.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Uh most likely not the ten thousand award winner. I
- 14:21Speaker 1: will tell you, just very love to find out.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Very good writing style though Yeah, they need conscious stream.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Of conscious write any thought forget about cent in structure
- 14:35Speaker 1: this if we need, we need to turn this one
- 14:38Speaker 1: into a video. I hired someone remote who took his
- 14:42Speaker 1: team called shirtless because that would be hilarious to see
- 14:47Speaker 1: the video of some shirtless dude on a zoom call.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I wish we had, yes a great commercial and like
- 14:57Speaker 2: would be your worst bad hire videos people who just
- 15:00Speaker 2: did horrible at their job too, like on on footage.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Yeah all right, laid in bed, phone down on the
- 15:12Speaker 1: counter while he was making his lunch. Absolutely idea. He
- 15:14Speaker 1: got on a client call. This is the scene I
- 15:17Speaker 1: want to shoot. Okay, right, he got on a client
- 15:20Speaker 1: call and in bed, nuzzling in his cat, right, I
- 15:24Speaker 1: think that would be good.
- 15:25Speaker 3: And then it just comes up.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I just want to know how he was nuzzling his
- 15:28Speaker 2: cat in bed though, like was it on top of him?
- 15:32Speaker 2: Was it like because you have your computer, it's not
- 15:34Speaker 2: that big of a screen like you're it had to
- 15:37Speaker 2: be like on the like right.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Here, you mentioned it while ago you got to tell
- 15:40Speaker 1: your story.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Oh you want me to tell my story?
- 15:43Speaker 1: Yeah, the way you were talking about it while okay.
- 15:45Speaker 2: My bad high I think this isn't even my story.
- 15:48Speaker 2: It's the company story. But it was a bad hire.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I was a part of the hiring team. Yeah, super, you.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Did this to her.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Actually, well the same person who hired you, the same
- 16:00Speaker 2: person who hired this guy. So this is this is
- 16:04Speaker 2: somebody else's.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no, no, I know what you mean. Yeah.
- 16:09Speaker 1: So because it was Yeah, because then started in tech.
- 16:12Speaker 1: So do you then we've then we've wroped her into
- 16:15Speaker 1: marketing and production?
- 16:16Speaker 2: So yeah yeah, so do you do you want me
- 16:19Speaker 2: to tell the story?
- 16:19Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:20Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay. So there is this I guy who started
- 16:24Speaker 2: and I want to say it was his first week.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I want to yeah, it was his first week, and
- 16:29Speaker 2: like immediately he tried talking to like all the women
- 16:32Speaker 2: in the office, which was like I mean, obviously just
- 16:35Speaker 2: a lonely guy.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Forty five, fifteen years old. Yeah, I was.
- 16:41Speaker 2: About would refer to his wife but then remind you
- 16:44Speaker 2: later on it was his ex wife, but would call
- 16:46Speaker 2: her his wife still and would try and talk to
- 16:52Speaker 2: people in Spanish and would try and say things that
- 16:55Speaker 2: you thought, oh, they don't know they don't speak Spanish
- 16:58Speaker 2: because his wife spoke Spanish church, right, And so anyways,
- 17:02Speaker 2: he was it, and you heard stories throughout the office,
- 17:07Speaker 2: so like people complaining about him, just him being kind
- 17:09Speaker 2: of creepy, and he would like come over and I
- 17:12Speaker 2: mean talk to me a lot, but talk to like
- 17:14Speaker 2: our side of the office and be like, yeah, I'm
- 17:16Speaker 2: on on hinge, I'm on all these dating apps. And
- 17:19Speaker 2: then I think he even mentioned er, like just all
- 17:23Speaker 2: these crazy things, and you're just like, okay, well you're
- 17:26Speaker 2: just telling me these things I don't need to know
- 17:28Speaker 2: about you, right, And so immediately that always made me uncomfortable.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Yeah, handle on it.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Yeah literally, yeah. It was like you know the guys
- 17:38Speaker 2: who have their like Instagram handle on their car.
- 17:40Speaker 1: It was.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah. But anyways, so one day I asked for helping
- 17:45Speaker 2: my computer, as one does with it. You need your help,
- 17:48Speaker 2: you know whatever. So I teams him and say, hey,
- 17:51Speaker 2: come help me, like I, you know, need help with
- 17:53Speaker 2: my computer. And so he says, okay, I'll come right over.
- 17:57Speaker 2: So I'm sitting, I'm, you know, working at my desk
- 17:59Speaker 2: hyping everything, and he comes up behind me and next
- 18:03Speaker 2: thing I know, his like nose is literally on my
- 18:06Speaker 2: neck and he's sniffing the side of my neck all
- 18:08Speaker 2: the way up to like my ear, and I immediately
- 18:11Speaker 2: was just like okay, and he in my ear goes
- 18:16Speaker 2: you smells so good like that right, and I internally died.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I'm like, I just need help with my computer. And
- 18:22Speaker 2: so I immediately like pushed back my chair. I'm like,
- 18:25Speaker 2: no way, that just happened. And so I just get
- 18:28Speaker 2: up and I leave, and I like, go ask somebody.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I'm like, what am I supposed to tell somebody this?
- 18:32Speaker 2: Like do you tell somebody never happened, nothing had ever happened,
- 18:37Speaker 2: like exactly, And I didn't know that you go tell
- 18:42Speaker 2: somebody these things because I'm like, this is the first
- 18:44Speaker 2: time it's ever happened to me. I'm like, you know,
- 18:46Speaker 2: young in my yeah, and I only worked for women
- 18:50Speaker 2: like companies before in his first week hair and very ready,
- 18:55Speaker 2: yeah exactly, And so I start, I go and I hide,
- 18:59Speaker 2: and I asked somebody, what do I say? Who do
- 19:01Speaker 2: I tell?
- 19:02Speaker 1: And what you told?
- 19:03Speaker 2: Then he got fired that luckily No. I was like,
- 19:08Speaker 2: do you want to like put him on a probation
- 19:10Speaker 2: and they're like, no, we don't mess with bad hires.
- 19:14Speaker 2: But it was funny though, because he was looking for
- 19:17Speaker 2: me after. I don't know if you know this, I
- 19:19Speaker 2: tried hiding and he was searching for me in the office,
- 19:21Speaker 2: asking people where I had gone, right, and so want
- 19:24Speaker 2: to apologize.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Maybe he knew. And then he was, do you have
- 19:30Speaker 1: any like if there anybodny helpers at the farm, at
- 19:34Speaker 1: the chicken farm that would your dad have a really
- 19:38Speaker 1: good bad hour story?
- 19:41Speaker 3: Steal from us once, steal tools from us?
- 19:44Speaker 1: Tools?
- 19:46Speaker 2: Your dad kind of tools my.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Dad, I think.
- 19:49Speaker 1: So. Is he a big guy? I don't know. I
- 19:53Speaker 1: just picture him. Was like he's lanky, he's like tough farmer,
- 19:56Speaker 1: like really rough hands.
- 19:59Speaker 3: He's a tough guy.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:02Speaker 3: He doesn't hire people very often. He's very particular about
- 20:07Speaker 3: his work.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so he does all himself.
- 20:11Speaker 3: And me and my brother. Yeah, he had you.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Hire.
- 20:17Speaker 3: No, the family are great helpers because we do the
- 20:22Speaker 3: work the way it's supposed to be done the way
- 20:24Speaker 3: he wants it done. That became a big issue whenever
- 20:28Speaker 3: he would hire help doing things halfway just done.
- 20:33Speaker 1: See why I hired you? Yeah, you had tons of
- 20:36Speaker 1: experience doing it the right way. Yeah right, I knew
- 20:40Speaker 1: that was the deal. You were either going to be
- 20:42Speaker 1: the daughter who never came outside and never helped because
- 20:45Speaker 1: you were like not doing it, or you were going
- 20:48Speaker 1: to be you were going to be the daughter who
- 20:51Speaker 1: was just out there in the grind every day doing
- 20:53Speaker 1: it because it's a tough job.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Whether I wanted to or not, I love it for
- 20:59Speaker 3: the reason.
- 20:59Speaker 1: That's I heard solved. I heard that about you.
- 21:04Speaker 2: How about you, Ken? How about you? Do you have
- 21:06Speaker 2: any bad hire stories?
- 21:07Speaker 1: I get like forty just forty in.
- 21:10Speaker 2: The chamber, and you know you got to you gotta
- 21:12Speaker 2: spread them over the episode. So tell us top one, right, yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 2: episode two? Tell us you're like worst one of all time,
- 21:19Speaker 2: worst one funny.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I'll tell you. I'll just tell you a
- 21:22Speaker 1: quick one.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 21:23Speaker 1: So we did hire a guy and uh in sales
- 21:29Speaker 1: one time, and he was you know, I had this big,
- 21:34Speaker 1: long resume of excellence and was going to be awesome
- 21:39Speaker 1: and like in day like day two, someone said came
- 21:45Speaker 1: to me, said he smells like alcohol.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Oh.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I was like, oh, okay, you know, maybe a celibratory drink.
- 21:52Speaker 1: You got a new job. And then, uh, I think
- 21:57Speaker 1: probably it was the next week when I was he
- 22:01Speaker 1: came back. I was totally he came back late from lunch,
- 22:03Speaker 1: like really late in his first week. Like, how do
- 22:06Speaker 1: you get there in the first week and you like
- 22:09Speaker 1: you're already coming back, you know, take it a three
- 22:11Speaker 1: hour lunch. Yeah, and so, and he was coming through.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I was walking through the parking lot and I walked
- 22:17Speaker 1: past his car and I looked down and he was
- 22:20Speaker 1: It's like two thirty in the afternoon, and he was
- 22:22Speaker 1: completely passed out with a bottle of bourbon like in
- 22:28Speaker 1: his lap where he had just been drinking it straight
- 22:31Speaker 1: out of the bottle until he just completely passed out
- 22:33Speaker 1: went to sleep.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Is that where he was a whole three hours just
- 22:35Speaker 2: out in the parking.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Lot just drinking. He would just go out there and drink.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yeah, twelve o'clock somewhere.
- 22:41Speaker 1: That's no, it could. It could happen, but you know
- 22:45Speaker 1: at work, so yes, I don't know. It was. It was, Uh,
- 22:49Speaker 1: it was hard because you know when you when that happens, right,
- 22:54Speaker 1: you want to just be like, hey, bro, you know
- 22:57Speaker 1: you're fired. Yeah, But then you know, legal show up
- 23:00Speaker 1: and and hr and they're like, well you can't you know, yeah,
- 23:05Speaker 1: you can't fire him because you know he's been drinking. Yeah,
- 23:09Speaker 1: Like you can't send him home, you can't tell him
- 23:10Speaker 1: to leave you get do you, because now yeah, he
- 23:13Speaker 1: can get stop and get hurt. And so you know
- 23:16Speaker 1: we end up having to keep an eye on him
- 23:18Speaker 1: and and then but you do it. You know, in
- 23:20Speaker 1: that particular case, we offered him some help, try to
- 23:23Speaker 1: get him into an eploye assistance program and.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Like help just for that day or help.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Drinking.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I was like, what's your hangover at the office plan?
- 23:33Speaker 1: I don't know we even had to fire him. I
- 23:34Speaker 1: think it was kind of a mutual decision, and he
- 23:36Speaker 1: was pretty embarrassed. You know, let it get out of control.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Zed they have in their car, can't start his car Breazer.
- 23:47Speaker 1: We should have checked. Yeah, maybe that should be a
- 23:50Speaker 1: part of the interview.
- 23:52Speaker 2: You got this morning, a.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Mission starter, a breathalyzer.
- 23:59Speaker 2: It's like and Randall was like wanting us to take
- 24:02Speaker 2: pictures of inside people's car to see if we could
- 24:03Speaker 2: guess who was whose car. It's like, oh, they have
- 24:06Speaker 2: a breathless car.
- 24:11Speaker 1: That was confidential information. Yeah, yeah, for real, all right.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Like smoking marijuana, Like you know, I feel like we've
- 24:20Speaker 2: had some people come through who I like to ask
- 24:23Speaker 2: you up front.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I used to have one of the my Yeah, one
- 24:29Speaker 1: of my best employees was swooked every single day, you know,
- 24:35Speaker 1: which is crazy because we're you know, we're in the
- 24:39Speaker 1: drug testing business too. But she was. She was a
- 24:44Speaker 1: cancer survivor and she she began doing uh smoking, I
- 24:52Speaker 1: guess to help with pain and with rehab and all that.
- 24:57Speaker 1: And so she was a cancer survivor and she was
- 25:01Speaker 1: incredibly thankful for it. So uh, I think after that show,
- 25:07Speaker 1: she just continued to use it, you know, a bit.
- 25:11Speaker 1: She I think she felt like it saved her life.
- 25:13Speaker 1: So I can't argue with that.
- 25:16Speaker 2: But for somebody else like that, that could have been
- 25:18Speaker 2: a bad hire. But for you, yeah.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Yeah, not anybody called anybody like hidden the blong in
- 25:26Speaker 1: the parking ladder, in the bathroom or on.
- 25:29Speaker 2: The team's call. Yeah, on the hopefully not on the
- 25:32Speaker 2: team's call.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I don't know. I think my favorite one today was
- 25:37Speaker 1: the on the phone on the team's call, nestled with
- 25:40Speaker 1: his cat.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Yeah you know, I mean my cat's accidentally been in
- 25:46Speaker 2: a team's meeting before. I'm not gonna lie. You're in
- 25:50Speaker 2: a company wide meeting.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my god, you are. Yeah, you're on your
- 26:00Speaker 1: If you're at your desk and a cat comes by
