- 0:27SPEAKER_01: You have access to the guided notes, the different tools, resources that are created to help walk you through the lessons of each podcast, as well as the Bible reading plans.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: We have the September Bible reading plan that we're going to present to you today.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: It is 30 days of reading that covers Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem as all the way through to his death and resurrection.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: So it looks like this.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It's in calendar form, which it's a little less intimidating than maybe one of the Bible reading plans you might have for reading the Bible in a year.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have you read every passage that covers his triumphal entry to his ascension, but it covers the highlights.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And we're going to go over them today.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: So the first highlight would be the gent the dinner that was held in Jesus' honor.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: And this is where Mary takes a very expensive perfume and puts it on his feet and rubs it with her hair.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And then we have the triumphal entry.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: We see this specifically in the reading plan in Luke 19.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: This is where Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey's colt as prophesied in Zechariah 9:9.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: The people are waving the palm branches.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: They're shouting Hosanna, which means save us or save now.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: That is from Psalm 118, 26.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: And it is interesting.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Several people, I have this written in my Bible, but I've heard several people say this is the week, this is where it starts, where the people go from shouting, hail him to eventually shouting, nail him.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Also this week, we see where Jesus is challenged in a way he's inspected.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And this goes back to Exodus 12, the instructions for the Passover lamb.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: This happened in correlation with the 10th plague of Egypt.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: So on the 10th day, the people were to select an animal.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: The animal had to be unblemished, it had to be spotless.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: And for four days, really, they were to inspect this animal to see if it had any blemishes, any spots, because if it did, they couldn't use it.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: On the 14th day, they were to slaughter the lamb.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: They were to use its blood to cover the doorway.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And again, this was the first Passover.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: We went into more detail about this Bible account in episode five, I believe.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: That was our Moses reading plan.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And during this week, again, we see Jesus tested and challenged.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Now, the language of the New Testament is very Jewish.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: It's very Old Testament in nature because we see in 1 Corinthians 5, 7, Jesus is called our Passover Lamb.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: In 1 Peter 1, 18 through 19, it says that we are bought with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: So just like the Passover lamb would have been inspected from the 10th day of Nisan to the 14th day, Jesus during this week was challenged, he was inspected.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Now, when Jesus was challenged and inspected and questioned, he responded several different ways.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: One of the ways he would respond is he'd ask them questions back.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: And a lot of times they, or all the time, they couldn't answer his questions.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And sometimes he'd say, You're not going to answer my question.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Well, then I won't answer your question.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Love it.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love it.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Um, we see him sometimes give point-blank answers to their questions, and at other times he answers them in parables, just like we saw in our last reading plan.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: He uses parables.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: We see this in Matthew 21 and 22.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: We have three parables told here.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: The first one is about two sons, and he asks them, once he explains the parable, he asks them, which of the two sons what did the father's will?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And in each of these parables, you're gonna see the Jews and the Gentiles really represented through these parables.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: The Jews who ultimately rejected him, the Pharisees, the scribes, the Sadducees, some of the people, and then we see the Gentiles.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: We have another parable of a vineyard owner.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: He goes off, he sends his servants to come collect the crops, the fruit, and the workers actually kill the servants.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: And then the vineyard owner sends his own son, and they end up killing his son.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: And again, this is representing, of course, it's in a way a prediction of Christ's death.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: And then we have the wedding banquet where they're invited, but they reject his invitation.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And so he invites others.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: And again, all of these are showing how Christ, when Christ came, his invitation was to all, but his invitation was first to the Jews and then to the Gentiles.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: The Jews rejected, and so the Gentiles would come into that.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: In Matthew 21, 44, of these parables, this pass, this uh verse really is just so powerful.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: And you see it repeated in different parts of scripture, 1 Peter in the Old Testament.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: He speaks of himself as being the cornerstone that's been rejected.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: And then he says, Whoever falls on this stone will be broken into pieces, but who on whomever it falls, the stone falls, it will shatter him.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And Chuck Smith has a quote that I don't have pulled up right now, but it was really powerful to me essentially that if you fall and you're broken over your sin and you fall on him, he will put you back together again.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: But of those who reject Jesus, who reject the judge, he will fall and he will break them into pieces.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Scary stuff.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: It's a good word.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Yes, it is.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: So after the some of the testing and the trying of Jesus, we have a famous discourse.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: It's called the Olivet Discourse, it's where he's at the Mount of Olives.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Is that how you say that?
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Mount of Olives.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: There's a couple parts to this teaching.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: So the first part, he gives the prophecy of the destruction of the temple.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Um, and then in the second part of the discourse, there's some questions that they ask him, and he gives some answers.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: And this can be a really confusing part of scripture because a lot of people look for one answer in one place.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: And a lot of times scripture is written to encompass multiple stages of a prophecy, like Jesus is coming, it's one of them, but he has two comings.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: He had the first coming and then he has a second coming.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: And so there's a lot of that going on in the way that Jesus answers the questions that the disciples ask him.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: A second part of this discourse is about four disciples that are with him, and they are asking him to tell them when these things are going to be fulfilled.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: And it's in Matthew 24, the questions that they ask are when?
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: What is the sign of your coming?
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: So this would be pointing obviously to the second coming because Jesus is there right now, that's his first.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: And then what are the signs of the end of the world?
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: And in the Greek, that word world means age.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: So the age in which they are in, which after some Bible study, people will say that's the age of the Gentiles, um, because the Jews are not ruling and reigning in Jerusalem.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: The Gentiles are.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: So Jesus answers them and he covers several different things in the answer.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: And again, this is in Matthew 24.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: So if you kind of break down his answer, he's talking about be on guard, you're gonna have false messiahs, there's going to be wars.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: And that's talking about things that haven't happened yet, but that will happen.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: And he even says, when they happen, the end has not yet come.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: And then he in Luke 21, he says, but before all of these other things are going to happen, you're going to experience things in your day.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Some of those would be that they would be rejected, they would be persecuted, and they would be able to, through those persecutions, give a testimony of who Jesus is, and they would be spreading the gospel.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: And they were very successful at spreading the gospel.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: And then we have preparations for the Lord's Supper.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Now, the Lord's Supper is in all four Gospels.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: We see Jesus wash the disciples' feet, which would have been something the lowest of the servants would have done, and he is showing them an example of how he wants them to serve one another.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: It's not about who's the greatest in the kingdom.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: He talked a lot about being the least in the kingdom, and he's showing that here.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: The Passover meal is eaten in it.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: He there's several cups, there's several things that go on in the Passover meal, but he says in Luke 22, 20, this cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: And if you want to learn more about what the new covenant is, in episode 16, we devoted that whole entire episode to the new covenant.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: I think it's excellent to understand that, how that all works.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: And then he also in this meal, he reveals that Judas will betray him.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: And he actually tells Judas in that moment, go and do it.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: And Judas leaves.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's very powerful.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: And I love how it says, and it was night.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I don't even know which one, which one of the gospels says that, but yeah, that's an interesting moment.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: And then you have later on in the reading plan, it covers how Jesus comforts his disciples, and he does this in in several different occasions.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: You can find that in John 14, 15, and 16.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: He tells them, Don't lose heart.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: He's coming back again.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: So this is when he's kind of preparing them that he's going to be um, he's gonna be persecuted and crucified.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: But don't lose heart, he's coming back again.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: He tells them that he is the vine, they are the branches, they remain in him, and he will remain in them.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: They cannot bear fruit on their own.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: So he is reminding them that they have to depend on him and his power.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: Um, he also lets them know that when he leaves, the helper will come, the helper being the Holy Spirit.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Um, and he says that through the Holy Spirit, they are going to be able to boldly testify and be God's witnesses to the world.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: They're going to be able to withstand the persecution that they're gonna go through, and the Holy Spirit is going to guide them and it is going to reveal the future to them.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: So cool.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it also talks about how they're gonna be scattered.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: So I know uh as the disciples, they were banking on always being together, but there is that point in time where they all get filled with fear and they all scatter, and God tells them that this is going to happen.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: But in their suffering, when Jesus is crucified, in their suffering, the world is gonna be rejoicing.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: But he tells them, I have overcome the world.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: He's the victor.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: So then we have in John 17 Jesus' high priestly prayer.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: This is often called his high priestly prayer because we see him interceding for his disciples and for believers.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: So during this prayer, first Jesus prays for himself.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: We see where he prays specifically for his disciples, and I love this.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: He prays for us too.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: He prays for believers, he prays that we would be one as he and the father are one.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: And I love that in all three sections of Jesus praying for himself, his disciples, and for believers, he prays ultimately that the father would be glorified through all of it.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: And I love that.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: His focus should be our focus that the Lord be glorified.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: And then we get to the part where it goes through his betrayal and his arrest.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: This is in Matthew 26.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: Um, Jesus is deeply grieved at this moment.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: He's going to the Garden of Gethsemane, he takes with him some of his disciples, he goes and he prays to the Father.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: He goes three separate times and he prays the same thing.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: He prays for God's will to be done, not his own.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Um, and that is good for us to know because a lot of times we get focused on what we can see, and maybe we know that we may go through some pain or suffering, and we just would just like to kind of skip that.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: But God's will be done because through our trials, he strengthens us and we grow in our faith.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: So he tells his disciples each time he the first time he leaves them, he says, Watch with me and pray.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: He goes and prays, comes back, they're asleep.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: He's like, No, stay with me, pray, keep watch.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: And they end up going to sleep again.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: But Judas comes and he portrays him with a kiss.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: And in John 18, Jesus is asked, I love this part of the story.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: When I first started studying the Bible and I read this, I was like, Oh my gosh, that is so cool.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: Um, Jesus asks, Who is it that you want?
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: So Judas has come, given him a kiss, and he says, Who are you looking for?
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: They say, Jesus of Nazareth, and he says, I am he, and they draw back, but they also hit the ground, they fall to the ground, and that is so cool.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: He says that with his words.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: That's like a picture of the future when he comes back, and with the word of his mouth, he destroys his enemies.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: That's so cool.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: I hadn't thought about that.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: And then we get to the trials of Jesus, and again, we see this in all four gospels.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Now, the trials of Jesus were illegal, and there's many reasons why they were illegal.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: For example, his judges were the ones that arrested him and accused him.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: There, there were private proceedings that happened at night.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: They rushed it through the night.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Um, the witnesses did not agree, and there were many false witnesses brought forth.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: And of course, to in order for there to be a serious trial like this, even all the way back to the Old Testament, you have to have two or three witnesses that agree.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: And then his death sentence was rushed.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: So if you're gonna have a death, uh a trial that leads to a death sentence, um, I don't know that it was necessarily Old Testament, but I know that rabbinic law at this point said there had to be at least two days, I think it was, that passed before that could happen.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: So we see that Jesus is arrested, he goes to Annas, and then he sends him to Caiaphas, which is the high priest.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Caiaphas sends him to Pontius Pilate, who is the Roman governor.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: You see, he's like a ping pong ball.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Nobody really wants him because they all don't really want to deal with this.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Um, so he's sent to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: When Pontius Pilate gets him, he's like, I don't see anything wrong.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: So he sends Jesus to Herod Antipas.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: And now this is the same bad king who killed John the Baptist.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: So it's interesting to me when Jesus stands before Herod, he doesn't say a word.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: It's like he doesn't, there's no need to even talk to this man.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: And then um Herod sends Jesus back to Pontius Pilate.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Pontius Pilate repeatedly says, I don't find guilt in this man.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: At one point, he washes his hands to show I'm not guilty of his blood.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: There was a custom at the festival, a governor's custom, where they would release a criminal.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: And he um I think he hoped that the crowd, he he presented Barabbas, this awful criminal, and he presented Jesus to the crowd and asked, which of these would you like released?
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: And I think in the back of his mind, probably he hoped they would say Jesus, but they asked that Barabbas be um released.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: I think the Pharisees, it says the Pharisees and the scribes kind of uh persuaded the crowd to go that direction.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: So then he releases him to the crowd.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Um, well, first he releases him to be flogged and hoping that maybe that'll satisfy the crowd, but that is not what happens.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: He is um found guilty of blasphemy, and not by Pontius Pilate, but guilty of blasphemy, and he is sent to the cross.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so side note here, it's not hard to entice a crowd when you get them to start screaming.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: So I have a personal story.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Um, I went to a soccer game and I know Spanish, but I didn't know what they were screaming.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: But everyone was so excited about screaming, and they kept saying this one word, and I and I started screaming it too.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: I was like, I'm not gonna say what I was saying, but I was yelling it with them, and my husband turns and looks at me, and he's like, Stop saying that.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, why?
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: He's like, Well, it's this, and I went, Oh.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: So once you get the crowd going, it's very easy that the crowd just follows.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, next on the Bible reading plan are is the event of Jesus being put on the cross and the sayings of Jesus from the cross.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: So Mark 15 and John 19 cover these very well.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Jesus is mocked before he is taken to the cross.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: So the procession is how you would say it to the cross, where they put on the crown of thorns, they give him a purple robe, so they're mocking him, like, oh, you think you're the king, so we're gonna dress you as a royal king.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: And then on the way to the cross, they're spitting at him, they're yelling things at him, they're slapping him.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: And when he is on the cross, there's actually the encryption of king of the Jews, which the Jewish people or the Jewish leaders were like, No, don't do that.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: And it was Pilate says, I'm king.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: What I've written, well, he wasn't the governor.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: I'm the governor.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: What the governor is written has been written.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: And it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: So all the languages could read that this is the king of the Jews.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: And so he's on the cross, and when he's on the cross, he sees John and he sees Mary, and to John he says, This is your mother, and to Mary he says, This is your son.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Sweet.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, I got it.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, hold on.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: I don't got it.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Next in the reading plan, we have Jesus' death and burial, and this is what happened in history too.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: In John 10, 17 through 18, Jesus said before he went to the cross, he said, I lay down my life so that I may take it up again.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: No one takes it from me.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: No one takes his life from him.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: I lay it down on my own.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: I have the right to lay it down, and I have the right to take it up again.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: I have received this command from my father.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: So here we see Jesus is clearly teaching that they did not, they were not the ones that killed Jesus.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: He he vol they did kill Jesus, but he voluntarily at the same time laid down his life.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: And we see this in John 19, it says, starting in verse 28, after this, when Jesus knew that everything was now finished and that the scripture might be fulfilled, he said, I'm thirsty.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: A jar full of sour wine was sitting there.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: So they fixed a sponge full of sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it up to his mouth.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, It is finished.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: Then, bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: So I love that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: He he chose when he was gonna die.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: He was in full control of all of that.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: When he died, scripture says the temple curtain into the holy of holies.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: So this would have been a curtain that separated the Jews.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: Really, the high priest was the only one that could go in there once a year.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: But the the veil was torn, so showing us that Jesus has given us a direct access to God.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: We no longer we don't need a priest anymore.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: We don't need um anyone to intervene for us except Christ.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: The really cool thing, I think, about the veil is that it wasn't just torn any any haphazard way.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: It was torn from the top to the bottom, bottom, showing us that God was the one who made a way between us and him.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: It wasn't torn from the top, I mean from the bottom to the top.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: In John 20 and Luke 23, it covers the resurrection morning.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: We have them going to the tombstone to visit Jesus on the third day.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: And there are two angels that they find instead of Jesus being inside, the rock is rolled away, and the angels say to them, Why are you looking for the living among the dead?
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: They the you can see in the text that the disciples are very confused, they don't understand why his body is missing.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: The angels retell to them the things that Jesus said, and then they understand.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: And they run back and they let them know that Jesus is risen.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: You also have the story of Mary who goes to the tomb.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: She also sees the angels there, and she is weeping.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: And when she's weeping, she hears her name, she turns around, she sees Jesus.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Jesus is like, Mary, why are you crying?
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: And she calls him Lord.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: And so it is it took the resurrection morning, it took them from mourning and sorrow to being filled with joy.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: And that very same day, this is probably one of my favorite passages in all of Scripture.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: In Luke 24, we have two disciples who are walking to Emmaus, and this was probably about a Two-hour journey walk from Jerusalem.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: One of them, we know their name was Cleopus.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: I hope I'm saying that person's name.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: I'll have to apologize in heaven if I'm not.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: And they're just talking about what's happened.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: They're talking about, you know, he's he's died, these things have happened.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: They're saying that he's been resurrected, his body wasn't there.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Um, what's really going on?
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: And he just starts walking with them, just like do-do-do-do.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: And and he says, um, he hears them and he's like, What are you talking about?
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: And they say, Um, well, I love how they they're talking, and and they say, Do you not know the things that are going on that have happened today?
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: And he's like, What things?
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: I just love, I just love Jesus.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: So then in verse 27, it says, beginning with Moses and all the prophets, that's really cool.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: You're talking Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, you're talking in the very beginning.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: So beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: I would have just loved to have been a fly on one of their dirty sandals or something and been able to like hear all of that.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: That would have been so cool to hear.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: Now, later in that same chapter, we see Jesus do the same thing for the disciples.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: It says um, he opened their this is verse 45 of chapter 24 in Luke.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: He opened their minds to understand the scriptures, which you you think about that.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: Christ gave them an understanding of the Old Testament scriptures.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: So when we read Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, these different um, you know, even Galatians, Ephesians, when we read these passages in scripture, we can see that Christ Himself, of course, Paul wasn't there, but Christ Himself gave the disciples, it's like direct understanding to the Old Testament.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: So when we see them quoting Old Testament scriptures, and sometimes we're like, how does that relate?
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: They got that information from Jesus.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: I think that's pretty cool.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: And today, through the Holy Spirit, when we read the scriptures, he opens our eyes to see the truth as well.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: The last thing covered in the Bible reading plan is the ascension of Jesus.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: This is in Matthew, Luke, and Acts.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: This happens at Bethany, which is interesting because that's where he got anointed by Mary.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: Full circle here.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Jesus is reminding them that he's going to be with them always until the end of the age.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: He tells them that when he leaves, for them to wait right there where they are, because they're going to receive the power of the Holy Spirit, and with that, they'll be able to do many things.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Um, when he ascends, there are two angels that it's two angels again.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: I think I love how he sends these messengers, the angels, to say, What are you doing?
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: Like it's like there's two witnesses each time.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Exactly, two heavenly witnesses.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: The first time they're like, Why are you looking for the living among the dead?
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: And this time he says, Why are you still like, why are you still staring up?
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I can picture them all like Yeah.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: And and the angels say, The way you see him leave, he will return again.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: I love that reminder because Jesus also had just told him that that he would be back.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: The disciples they begin to worship him and they return back to Jerusalem with great joy.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: So again, we would encourage you to become a podcast plus member.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Again, you will get the reading plan that we've been over today.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: And I just think it's encouraging because it helps you get in his word.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: We our goal here with this podcast is to help you become Bible literate, meaning not just that you read his word, but that you desire to read his word.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: You want to read his word because we really want to be as Ezra.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: We want to read, do, and tell the word of the Lord.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Amen.
