- 0:21Speaker 1: Excited to see our buddy Joel Anderson, the ringer tailgate
- 0:24Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast.
- 0:25Speaker 2: College football has begun.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Look at him.
- 0:27Speaker 1: He's celebrating. How was it having college football back in
- 0:30Speaker 1: your life, Joel?
- 0:31Speaker 2: How was it?
- 0:31Speaker 4: Oh, man, it was just amazing.
- 0:33Speaker 5: Just, you know, the idea that You wake up and
- 0:37Speaker 5: I was in California.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I was in LA over the weekend.
- 0:39Speaker 5: So I was back to that routine where you get
- 0:42Speaker 5: up in the morning and like football just hits you
- 0:45Speaker 5: in your face, man. It's like nine o'clock and it's
- 0:47Speaker 5: time to go.
- 0:48Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? That's what I like. So
- 0:50Speaker 4: I had it all day.
- 0:52Speaker 5: I got to be there and watch the ball with
- 0:54Speaker 5: the dudes in the studio.
- 0:56Speaker 4: I mean, what else could I ask for?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 0:58Speaker 6: Stu, you know Joel invented the Raise the Roof celebration, right?
- 1:01Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:02Speaker 2: No, I was not aware of that. I wasn't.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:05Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06Speaker 5: No, I'm telling you, man. 1994 in Houston, Texas. I
- 1:11Speaker 5: was right there.
- 1:12Speaker 4: I was right there. I invented it, man.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:14Speaker 2: So what'd you do?
- 1:15Speaker 1: You just like, so you did the, you did the
- 1:17Speaker 1: celebration and everyone just kind of started doing it after you.
- 1:20Speaker 5: I mean, I'll give you the brief version. We had
- 1:23Speaker 5: a football pep rally at my high school. Dude went
- 1:26Speaker 5: out onto the, onto the, onto the court, you know,
- 1:29Speaker 5: the football team went out there and my dude started
- 1:31Speaker 5: doing this.
- 1:32Speaker 4: And I was like, what's that? What's that? Let's do,
- 1:33Speaker 4: what's that? What is that? What is that?
- 1:35Speaker 6: And we did it.
- 1:35Speaker 5: And then other people in the stand shot it back
- 1:37Speaker 5: to us. And then when we were out in Houston
- 1:40Speaker 5: in the mid nineties, You know, we do it at
- 1:42Speaker 5: the club or we see each other at the teen
- 1:43Speaker 5: club or a party. And then the Houston Comets, I
- 1:46Speaker 5: guess they somehow got onto that.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:48Speaker 5: Because the Houston Comets or the WNBA popularized it, if
- 1:51Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:52Speaker 4: And so it just took off from there. So that's, yeah,
- 1:54Speaker 4: I was at that. I did that. That was me.
- 1:56Speaker 7: Was Whoop There It Is playing?
- 1:57Speaker 2: 1994, man.
- 2:00Speaker 5: You know, it was a little bit of everything.
- 2:04Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 2:07Speaker 1: Joel, is Lane Kiffin good? I want to like Lane Kiffin.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I do like Lane Kiffin. Is he good for college football?
- 2:13Speaker 4: Oh, man, absolutely.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Was Jerry Tarkanian good for college basketball?
- 2:18Speaker 7: 100%.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Yes, he was.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:20Speaker 5: And I'm not really calling him Tark because, I mean,
- 2:22Speaker 5: Tark is like a G. Like, he sued the NCAA,
- 2:25Speaker 5: you know? So, I mean, he was at a totally
- 2:27Speaker 5: different level of antipathy with the league. But, yeah, I
- 2:31Speaker 5: think Lane is great for it because it's good to
- 2:33Speaker 5: have people pushing the rules. I just always think that that's,
- 2:37Speaker 5: in any league, you got to have somebody that's doing
- 2:40Speaker 5: that so you can kind of see where the boundaries are.
- 2:43Speaker 4: And he's a great coach. I mean, that's the thing
- 2:45Speaker 4: about it.
- 2:46Speaker 5: It'd be one thing if his teams were terrible, but
- 2:48Speaker 5: it seems like he actually might be one of the
- 2:52Speaker 5: best coaches in the country. And I think before people thought, ah,
- 2:56Speaker 5: he's just a controversial figure.
- 2:57Speaker 4: He's a lightning rod. He's a troll.
- 2:59Speaker 5: He's a good coach, but not an elite coach. Now
- 3:03Speaker 5: I'm looking at it. Florida Atlantic had its best season
- 3:05Speaker 5: ever under him. Ole Miss has had its best stretch
- 3:08Speaker 5: under him. And LSU seems to be off to a
- 3:10Speaker 5: great start. So, yeah, man, I mean, why not have
- 3:12Speaker 5: a badass that, you know, people kind of hate?
- 3:15Speaker 1: It's so interesting. He's such a great coach. It's just,
- 3:19Speaker 1: for me, it's funny whether or not he's good for
- 3:21Speaker 1: college football. It's not even a debate. He is great
- 3:23Speaker 1: for college football. He is the biggest star.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Is this fair?
- 3:26Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin is the biggest star in college football right now.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Do you– okay. Okay.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Somebody said, and I wish I could give them credit
- 3:34Speaker 5: for this so I remember, it reminds me of like
- 3:37Speaker 5: that month or two when Deion Sanders was the biggest thing.
- 3:40Speaker 4: In college football. Yes.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Right?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:43Speaker 5: And like, was that bad for college football to have
- 3:45Speaker 5: people from the outside caring about the game, seeing who
- 3:47Speaker 5: was going on on the sidelines, which celebrities are showing up?
- 3:51Speaker 5: I mean, Lane Kiffin had Livvy Dunn and Theo Vaughn
- 3:54Speaker 5: hanging out with him this past week. You know, that's major.
- 3:58Speaker 5: I mean, that's more exciting than anything. You know, I'm
- 4:00Speaker 5: a college guy over an NFL guy. I'm just– I
- 4:02Speaker 5: think that's going to be more exciting than anything you
- 4:04Speaker 5: see in the NFL over the next couple weeks.
- 4:06Speaker 2: No question.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I thought the bigger story from that game, though, I
- 4:08Speaker 1: was expecting something close to that.
- 4:10Speaker 2: From LSU and Lane Kiffin. They're a talented team.
- 4:12Speaker 3: They're very, very good.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I thought the bigger story was Dabo and Clemson just
- 4:16Speaker 1: being that bad. And I'm not certain Dabo makes it
- 4:20Speaker 1: the season at Clemson.
- 4:21Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 4:21Speaker 1: I know the buyout's ridiculous. It's $ 50- plus million. But I
- 4:25Speaker 1: have a hard time seeing Clemson– being accepting of that
- 4:29Speaker 1: kind of coach and their record with him over the
- 4:31Speaker 1: last couple of years.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I mean, that's the thing.
- 4:34Speaker 5: So look, man, I, and I come from a school
- 4:37Speaker 5: TCU where they fired Gary Patterson. They have a, when
- 4:39Speaker 5: they fired Gary Patterson, they still, they had a statue
- 4:43Speaker 5: out there in front of his, in front of his facility.
- 4:45Speaker 5: And at a certain point, a school has to be like,
- 4:48Speaker 5: it's cool what you did for me. But at what
- 4:50Speaker 5: point can we say that this is enough? Two years ago,
- 4:55Speaker 5: they did the same thing in Georgia, got their ass kicked.
- 4:58Speaker 4: They were okay.
- 4:59Speaker 5: They made it to the playoffs, but nobody thought that
- 5:01Speaker 5: they were a real contender. And so this is the
- 5:03Speaker 5: thing that I think people really need to look at.
- 5:05Speaker 5: And I'm sure if you're a Clemson fan, you've already
- 5:06Speaker 5: considered this. Last year, LSU beats Clemson in a nail-biter.
- 5:11Speaker 5: It was like 17 to 10. But both teams went
- 5:13Speaker 5: on to finish 7 and 6th. That's unacceptable at LSU.
- 5:17Speaker 5: They fired Brian Kelly, who heretofore we all thought was
- 5:20Speaker 5: a pretty good coach. Lane comes in, just tears shit
- 5:24Speaker 5: up and brings in a whole new roster. At Clemson,
- 5:27Speaker 5: that's their fifth straight year of three or more losses,
- 5:30Speaker 5: their fourth of four or more. Dabo Sweeney actually loses
- 5:34Speaker 5: nine guys to the NFL draft, which is sort of like,
- 5:36Speaker 5: how did you get nine NFL guys, two.
- 5:38Speaker 4: In the first round, you went seven and six, but fine.
- 5:40Speaker 3: You lose them.
- 5:42Speaker 4: You stick with.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Your fourth year junior QB, Chris Vicenza, that nobody was
- 5:46Speaker 5: really talking about. You still don't really get active in
- 5:49Speaker 5: the portal like you need to. And so you come
- 5:52Speaker 5: back and run it back against LSU and you lose
- 5:54Speaker 5: about 41 points. So if you're a Clemson fan, you're like, man,
- 5:59Speaker 5: last year against LSU, we were kind of right there
- 6:01Speaker 5: and already they've surpassed us. That's unacceptable. You just can't,
- 6:04Speaker 5: it just can't be like that. It can't be like
- 6:06Speaker 5: that anymore. Clemson can't afford to be this bad and
- 6:09Speaker 5: irrelevant for this much longer.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:11Speaker 6: On the topic of irrelevant, Florida state looks pretty irrelevant.
- 6:17Speaker 6: Mike looks like dead man walking. Are you surprised at
- 6:21Speaker 6: how quickly that program has kind of fallen off?
- 6:25Speaker 5: Man, nothing good has happened to them since Jordan Travis
- 6:29Speaker 5: went down against North Alabama. Like it seems like they've
- 6:32Speaker 5: like been struck. Like it feels like everything has just
- 6:34Speaker 5: gone absolutely wrong for them. They managed to squeak, squeak
- 6:38Speaker 5: out a win in the ACC championship game, but that
- 6:39Speaker 5: was it. Um, The thing that I would say, if
- 6:42Speaker 5: you're a Florida State fan and a person that followed
- 6:45Speaker 5: Florida State when it was great, what if I told
- 6:47Speaker 5: you five years ago, I was like, you're going to
- 6:50Speaker 5: open the season against SMU at home and they're going
- 6:53Speaker 5: to be a three-point favorite. And not only that, they
- 6:57Speaker 5: were a three-point favorite coming into your home game, your
- 6:59Speaker 5: Florida State.
- 7:00Speaker 4: This is SMU. SMU plays like shit. They did everything.
- 7:05Speaker 4: They lost.
- 7:05Speaker 5: They had four turnovers. They lost the time of possession battle.
- 7:10Speaker 5: Florida state ran for more yards to them. They missed
- 7:12Speaker 5: field goals, had all that. They did so many dumb things,
- 7:15Speaker 5: had so many penalties and they won. Like if you're Florida,
- 7:19Speaker 5: how can, I mean, I, I don't know. Maybe I'm more,
- 7:23Speaker 5: I can't be more outraged by it than Florida state fans.
- 7:26Speaker 5: Cause I think that's, I grew up Florida state was cool, man. They,
- 7:29Speaker 5: they were out there making me feel sorry for them
- 7:31Speaker 5: last night.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:32Speaker 5: I was like, Oh man, like that was pathetic. I mean,
- 7:35Speaker 5: I know they're going to win some games. They beat
- 7:36Speaker 5: New Mexico state.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:38Speaker 4: But I'm like, you can't, You can't let SMU come
- 7:40Speaker 4: in and punk you like that, man. That's embarrassing.
- 7:43Speaker 6: Joel, the crazy thing is I don't even know how
- 7:45Speaker 6: bad the Florida State team actually is because they've gone
- 7:49Speaker 6: back-to-back years with Thomas Castellanos and Ashton Daniels at quarterback
- 7:53Speaker 6: where it's like, of course these are going to be
- 7:55Speaker 6: the results that you have when these are your starting quarterbacks.
- 7:58Speaker 4: That, to me, was the other shocking thing.
- 8:01Speaker 5: I mean, dog, Ashton Daniels was bad at Stanford and Auburn.
- 8:04Speaker 4: He has a career record as a start of, like, 5-21.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Like, why were you even in the bidding for him?
- 8:14Speaker 5: You know, your rival, Miami, had Carson Beck, who was
- 8:17Speaker 5: quarterback of a team that was number one the whole year. Still,
- 8:20Speaker 5: everybody thought he was going to be a great NFL prospect.
- 8:23Speaker 5: And then they replaced him with Darian Mensah, a potential
- 8:26Speaker 5: first-round pick who won.
- 8:27Speaker 4: The ACC at Duke.
- 8:30Speaker 5: That's who they brought in, and you guys brought in
- 8:32Speaker 5: Ashton Daniels. You're not being serious. Either the boosters are like,
- 8:39Speaker 5: we're not going to give you any more money until
- 8:41Speaker 5: you run this guy off, or you're just not being serious.
- 8:44Speaker 4: But either way, it doesn't speak well of the program.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Joel, for me, if they played on Saturday, they didn't.
- 8:49Speaker 1: We'd be talking about them a lot today, but they
- 8:51Speaker 1: played on Friday night at Stanford. But for me, the
- 8:54Speaker 1: most impressive team over the weekend was Miami.
- 8:56Speaker 2: What'd you think? Yeah, man.
- 8:58Speaker 5: I mean, they're it looks like they've picked up from
- 9:00Speaker 5: where they left off last year. I mean, the thing
- 9:03Speaker 5: about it is that Carson Beck is an NFL quarterback,
- 9:05Speaker 5: but Darian Mensah is a first round NFL quarterback.
- 9:08Speaker 4: So that's just a tremendous, that is a tremendous difference.
- 9:12Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 9:13Speaker 5: Like Carson Beck will collect some NFL checks.
- 9:15Speaker 4: I'm sure he'll be fine. You know what I'm saying?
- 9:17Speaker 5: Darian Mensah might play next year at the NFL, you know?
- 9:21Speaker 5: And like, they've got, if they don't have the best
- 9:24Speaker 5: receiver in college football, they got the second best one.
- 9:27Speaker 4: They have another dude, Cooper Barquet.
- 9:28Speaker 5: And the one thing that I thought Miami might struggle
- 9:31Speaker 5: with is that there's no way to replace Ruben Bain
- 9:35Speaker 5: and Akeem Messidor. Like, I mean, that was one of
- 9:37Speaker 5: the best pass rushes I've ever seen in my life. But,
- 9:41Speaker 5: you know, that interior pressure is pretty good, man. They
- 9:44Speaker 5: fixed that up. That back seven was already, like, stacked.
- 9:48Speaker 5: And so I don't, they don't really have any weaknesses.
- 9:51Speaker 7: Right.
- 9:52Speaker 4: And so that sort of thing, I'm like, yeah, man,
- 9:53Speaker 4: they look pretty good.
- 9:55Speaker 5: If you were to vote Miami number one and say
- 9:57Speaker 5: they were your national championship favorite.
- 9:59Speaker 4: And i don't think anybody could say that's outrageous like
- 10:02Speaker 4: that's how good they are that's how good they've looked.
- 10:03Speaker 2: So far yes except lane keffin he would i mean
- 10:07Speaker 2: yeah i.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Mean man you see that's the thing you know about
- 10:09Speaker 4: lane i just i want.
- 10:11Speaker 5: Like so this is the thing and i'm not like
- 10:13Speaker 5: one of those like distraction guys or whatever but man
- 10:18Speaker 5: it ain't gonna be like that every saturday Like, you're
- 10:20Speaker 5: going to be locked in a battle against somebody.
- 10:23Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 10:25Speaker 5: Maybe you'll be at Ole Miss in a couple weeks.
- 10:27Speaker 5: Maybe when you play Texas later this year or Alabama.
- 10:30Speaker 5: And at that point, it's going to be like, how
- 10:32Speaker 5: together is your program? When things are tough, like, is
- 10:36Speaker 5: this my brother?
- 10:37Speaker 4: Is this my dog? We going to fight together or what?
- 10:40Speaker 4: And I don't, I mean, we'll see. We'll see.
- 10:43Speaker 5: The other thing about the Lane thing, and I'm not
- 10:45Speaker 5: wishing it on nobody, man, but like, bro, like, When
- 10:49Speaker 5: you run your program kind of loose, I always feel
- 10:51Speaker 5: like something takes that program down, whether it's arrest or
- 10:55Speaker 5: how kind of lazy you're doing stuff in the program.
- 10:58Speaker 5: There's sort of a lack of oversight or too many
- 11:01Speaker 5: people in the kitchen, and it's just things get messed up.
- 11:05Speaker 5: So I just, I mean, we'll see. They look really
- 11:08Speaker 5: good right now. Everybody is hype. But I thought, like
- 11:11Speaker 5: you said, I took from that that Clemson's not good.
- 11:13Speaker 5: They're not competitive. That doesn't mean that LSU is, you know,
- 11:16Speaker 5: the best team I've ever seen.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 11:18Speaker 6: Joel, with the Michigan-Western Michigan game, I can kind of
- 11:21Speaker 6: see both sides of the argument. I think Western Michigan
- 11:24Speaker 6: ultimately did get screwed. But also, what would you say
- 11:26Speaker 6: to the people who are like, all you had to
- 11:28Speaker 6: do was just stop a 50-yard Hail Mary for a
- 11:30Speaker 6: second time?
- 11:31Speaker 3: They did.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, bro, I don't– you know, I've gone
- 11:37Speaker 5: back and forth on this, man. Like, I feel– I–
- 11:41Speaker 5: I feel so bad for Western Michigan. The thing is,
- 11:45Speaker 5: let's try to imagine it the other way around. If
- 11:49Speaker 5: Michigan was holding on to a 12-7 lead and Western
- 11:53Speaker 5: Michigan had thrown the ball out the back of the
- 11:55Speaker 5: end zone on what appeared to be the final play,
- 11:58Speaker 5: I also don't think the officials would have been that
- 12:00Speaker 5: much of a pedant. They would have been like, alright,
- 12:02Speaker 5: game over. But all of a sudden, you go through
- 12:04Speaker 5: the system and everything else.
- 12:06Speaker 4: And they say that the officials made the.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Right call, but I was looking at Mike Pereira talking
- 12:12Speaker 5: today and he was like, man, we wouldn't even do
- 12:13Speaker 5: that in the NFL.
- 12:14Speaker 4: They shouldn't have done that.
- 12:15Speaker 5: And the reason the NFL doesn't replay plays with one
- 12:18Speaker 5: second or more, that has to be two seconds or more.
- 12:20Speaker 4: So you don't run into this kind of stuff. So
- 12:23Speaker 4: I was, I don't know, man. I.
- 12:24Speaker 5: It kind of convinced me. I was like, I don't,
- 12:27Speaker 5: I don't know why they had to do that. I
- 12:29Speaker 5: think if, if it ended the way that it appeared
- 12:31Speaker 5: that it was going to end, everybody would have been
- 12:33Speaker 5: fine with it. You know?
- 12:35Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Everybody would have been fine with it.
- 12:37Speaker 5: This way you just pissed off people and you ruin like,
- 12:41Speaker 5: I mean, Michigan fans are kind of annoying anyway.
- 12:45Speaker 4: But I wanted them to lose.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Yes.
- 12:48Speaker 5: I wanted them to lose to Western Michigan. I wanted
- 12:50Speaker 5: them to suffer that humiliation. And the Big Ten officials
- 12:54Speaker 5: denied us that opportunity.
- 12:56Speaker 2: They took care of humiliating themselves.
- 12:57Speaker 1: They celebrated like they won a national championship after winning
- 13:00Speaker 1: that game.
- 13:01Speaker 4: I mean, come on. I know you had some shit
- 13:05Speaker 4: to say about that.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I was like, that's humiliating, man.
- 13:09Speaker 4: I get it in the moment.
- 13:11Speaker 3: I get it.
- 13:11Speaker 4: It was like, oh, wow. We didn't know we was
- 13:13Speaker 4: going to even win this game.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Let's get out in the streets.
- 13:16Speaker 6: Yes.
- 13:16Speaker 4: And then, like, later, it's like, bro, that was embarrassing.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 13:19Speaker 2: No, I blasted them.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Listen, when you rob a bank and get away with it,
- 13:22Speaker 1: just walk out quietly and don't talk about it.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Never speak about it again. Don't.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Let's move on. Yes.
- 13:29Speaker 4: No, let's move on.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:30Speaker 5: Can you imagine Ohio State fans? They're like, that's pathetic.
- 13:33Speaker 5: I know y'all.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Have embarrassed us but that's pathetic even for y'all that's terrible.
- 13:37Speaker 6: Yes joe i think fsu found their next quarterback bryce underwood.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Joe my god man what a distressed asset man i
- 13:46Speaker 5: mean but you know what i mean the hope is
- 13:49Speaker 5: that mike norvell is smart enough not to bring in
- 13:52Speaker 5: bryce underwood i just don't believe in that i was
- 13:55Speaker 5: bad with good talent Maybe I'll be better with worse talent.
- 13:58Speaker 1: That's not– You have Norvell making that decision, though.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I mean, seriously.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Anyway, Ashton Daniels, man, you see he was getting his
- 14:06Speaker 5: ass kicked in Stanford. What if I put him with
- 14:07Speaker 5: some Florida State dogs?
- 14:09Speaker 2: It's like, nah.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Nah, man.
- 14:10Speaker 4: That's not going to work, bro. All right.
- 14:14Speaker 2: All right, Joel. Good to see you.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Good to have college football back. Check him out, The
- 14:17Speaker 1: Ringer Tailgate, wherever you get your podcasts. say hi to
- 14:20Speaker 1: Billy Gale for us, okay?
- 14:21Speaker 4: Hey, man, of course, of course. I have no choice.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Good seeing y'all, man.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Give me that. Raise the roof, Stu. There you go.
- 14:28Speaker 2: All right, Mike.
- 14:29Speaker 4: I see you, dog. There you go. Get that hand up.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Okay, man.
- 14:31Speaker 4: I appreciate y'all. Anytime.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Anytime. I invented the wave.
- 14:34Speaker 4: See ya. I believe it. I know it started in
- 14:37Speaker 4: New York, at least.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Mikey!
- 14:54Speaker 2: He came into the league with all the hype in
- 14:57Speaker 2: the world.
- 14:58Speaker 1: It started well, and with Mike McDaniel, it looked like
- 15:03Speaker 1: they were going to rewrite the record books. But injuries
- 15:07Speaker 1: set his career back to the point where he's the
- 15:11Speaker 1: rare quarterback who went from wanting to tank to get
- 15:14Speaker 1: him to now tanking with him. But maybe Just maybe.
- 15:20Speaker 1: A change of scenery will help him.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Probably will. And with him being named the.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Starting quarterback this weekend, after one of the worst preseasons ever.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Make no mistake about it. Just like that. Tua is back.
- 15:41Speaker 2: He's back, Mike.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Back to what?
- 15:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:46Speaker 1: You know what the T in Tua stands for?
- 15:50Speaker 2: Tanking.
- 15:54Speaker 1: If we were judging teams off of week one, and
- 15:57Speaker 1: only week one, LSU is the best team ever.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Overwhelming.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Yeah, overwhelming.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Crown them.
- 16:05Speaker 2: If the season ended today, yes. You know what the
- 16:11Speaker 2: D in Dabo Swinney stands for?
- 16:15Speaker 3: Didn't show up?
- 16:16Speaker 6: Done.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Done.
- 16:19Speaker 2: It stands for done. You know what the S in
- 16:22Speaker 2: Swinney stands for?
- 16:27Speaker 3: Stay home?
- 16:27Speaker 2: Savannah State.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I was debating between that and the Sunbelt Conference.
- 16:36Speaker 6: He fits the Sunbelt more.
- 16:37Speaker 2: He really does.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Dabo Swinney was standing on the tracks and got hit
- 16:44Speaker 1: at full speed by the lane train.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Taylor put it on.
- 16:50Speaker 1: The poll was Dabo Swinney standing on the tracks and
- 16:54Speaker 1: got hit at full speed by the lane train.
- 16:58Speaker 2: He did I vote yes.
- 17:02Speaker 1: That game was played in Baton Rouge but in reality
- 17:06Speaker 1: it was played behind a woodshed.
- 17:12Speaker 2: They're good.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin going for two Up 41 points. Insult to injury. Also,
- 17:22Speaker 1: peak Lane Kiffin.
- 17:23Speaker 6: He's such an ass, but I love it.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I do. I do.
- 17:26Speaker 3: He is the most needed person in college football.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I don't care about any particular college football team, program, university.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I went to Clark University. They don't have football. They're D3.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I don't think they have football. What do I care?
- 17:41Speaker 4: I love the guy.
- 17:42Speaker 2: He makes it more interesting. He does. And he's an ass.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Clemson shouldn't be allowed to call their stadium Death Valley.
- 17:56Speaker 1: The only team that's died there recently is Clemson.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 18:08Speaker 1: If you thought LSU was good now, just wait until
- 18:11Speaker 1: they get their NFL players.
- 18:15Speaker 2: NFLSU. That was without the pros.
- 18:25Speaker 7: If Joe Burrow gets hurt, Jamar Chase is going to
- 18:27Speaker 7: find a way back.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Put it on the ball.
- 18:31Speaker 1: If Joe Burrow gets hurt, will Jamar Chase find his
- 18:34Speaker 1: way back to LSU? What was it? SEC filing a
- 18:42Speaker 1: lawsuit against LSU for wanting to play NFL players. You
- 18:48Speaker 1: can't spell lawsuit. Without L-S-U.
- 18:55Speaker 2: You can't, technically.
- 18:58Speaker 3: I'm trying. I'm doing the.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Try to spell it. Go ahead. I dare anyone to
- 19:01Speaker 2: try to spell it without L-S-U. Go ahead. You can't.
- 19:05Speaker 2: You can't do it.
- 19:05Speaker 3: You can't.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Do you think at any point players on Ole Miss
- 19:11Speaker 1: watched that LSU game and said to themselves, I should.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Have went with them?
- 19:17Speaker 6: They'd have that, like, whole moral ground standing. Like, Kiwan
- 19:21Speaker 6: Lacey and Trinidad Chambliss, we're going to stay at Ole
- 19:23Speaker 6: Miss and finish what we started. Okay, buddy. Get ready
- 19:26Speaker 6: to lose by 30 points in week three.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Someone had to say that to somebody, right? We should
- 19:35Speaker 2: have went with him. Yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Did we make the wrong choice?
- 19:40Speaker 3: No, we're okay, right? No, we made the wrong choice.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Except the quarterback.
- 19:42Speaker 1: He thinks he made the right choice because he thinks
- 19:45Speaker 1: he can beat LSU by himself.
- 19:47Speaker 2: And he might have to.
- 19:50Speaker 6: I just wouldn't feel confident putting my trust in Pete
- 19:52Speaker 6: Golding's hand.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Pete Golding. Please.
- 19:58Speaker 2: The P in Pete.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Please.
- 20:03Speaker 2: If you squint, Sam Leavitt starts to look like Joe Burrow.
- 20:09Speaker 2: You have to squint, though.
- 20:12Speaker 3: You got to squint real tight to get that one.
- 20:15Speaker 2: For a few more weeks.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Having a tiger on campus feels excessive. SEC, it just
- 20:25Speaker 1: means more.
- 20:28Speaker 6: No, I didn't like that, the tiger on campus.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Why?
- 20:30Speaker 2: It feels excessive.
- 20:32Speaker 6: It feels like a zoo.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Dangerous.
- 20:34Speaker 3: It's a bit much.
- 20:35Speaker 6: It's a place of learning.
- 20:39Speaker 2: It's dangerous.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Congratulations to Kirk Herbstreit on being the first person in
- 20:47Speaker 1: the history of this planet to own a dog.
- 20:51Speaker 2: It's a cute dog, man.
- 20:53Speaker 6: Don't get me started on it.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I mean, I love that dog. We got him on
- 20:55Speaker 2: the show last year because of his dog. My daughters
- 20:57Speaker 2: love that dog.
- 21:00Speaker 6: He treats that dog like a purse carrying it around everywhere.
- 21:03Speaker 6: Then he says the dog wants to be there. I
- 21:05Speaker 6: have never heard a dog say, you know where I
- 21:07Speaker 6: want to be? College game day in Baton Rouge. Dogs
- 21:10Speaker 6: want to be in a park with other dogs.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Yes, but you've never heard a dog say anything. I mean.
- 21:15Speaker 7: Dogs want to be with their owners. Dogs want to
- 21:18Speaker 7: be with their masters.
- 21:19Speaker 2: They do.
- 21:20Speaker 3: He takes them.
- 21:20Speaker 2: They'll go anywhere.
- 21:21Speaker 4: I wish I could take my dog.
- 21:22Speaker 2: On a private jet.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yes.
- 21:25Speaker 7: My dog would live the life if I could afford
- 21:27Speaker 7: a private jet and go place to place.
- 21:29Speaker 2: If you were Kirk.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I love the dog. That was Taylor's observation. Yeah, it's
- 21:38Speaker 2: a terrible observation.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Taylor is heartless to dogs.
- 21:42Speaker 2: I know, but I'm trying to get Kirk on this week.
- 21:45Speaker 2: It's a big game. Texas, Ohio State. He's going to
- 21:49Speaker 2: be there calling it. I want him on. I'll tell
- 21:53Speaker 2: him your thoughts about his dog.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Please don't.
- 21:57Speaker 7: I'd like to keep a good relationship with the show
- 21:59Speaker 7: and Kirk.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Please don't mention Taylor.
- 22:02Speaker 1: To the guy behind me. Who thinks he's calling out
- 22:05Speaker 1: the defensive coverages.
- 22:07Speaker 2: You are wrong. And I hate you. That's a Taylor observation.
- 22:10Speaker 2: I was not at a game. He was. Someone was
- 22:12Speaker 2: calling plays behind him. Yes?
- 22:14Speaker 6: Yeah, this guy the entire time.
- 22:16Speaker 2: That guy.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:18Speaker 6: You know, as much fun as I had in Baton Rouge,
- 22:21Speaker 6: there was a guy behind me.
- 22:22Speaker 7: Who would not stop yelling this one note the whole time.
- 22:26Speaker 3: The problem is he did it during like TV timeouts.
- 22:29Speaker 7: And I'm like, you realize you're not affecting anything right now.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Just do it.
- 22:33Speaker 3: It was, but the whole time.
- 22:37Speaker 2: He thinks he's impacting the game though. He does.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Impacting my, my sanity.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Uh, were you close to punching him in the face
- 22:46Speaker 2: at any point?
- 22:49Speaker 3: Close, closer than I care to admit.
- 22:50Speaker 2: All right.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Hey, guy behind me, instead of yelling cover one, why
- 22:57Speaker 1: don't you cover one's mouth?
- 22:58Speaker 6: Nice.
- 23:04Speaker 2: What?
- 23:05Speaker 6: What?
- 23:06Speaker 2: It was Taylor's.
- 23:07Speaker 6: That was terrible by Ricardo. Terrible judgment.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Well, let's try again. Ricardo, if I tell you that
- 23:12Speaker 1: was Taylor's joke, what sound would you give me?
- 23:15Speaker 2: Of course.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Iowa scored 40 points with 507 total yards.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Not your father's Hawkeyes. Heck, not your two-year-old's Hawkeyes.
- 23:34Speaker 7: I miss the days where I could just count money
- 23:36Speaker 7: just betting Iowa unders.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Not anymore. Dangerous game.
- 23:40Speaker 7: I hate it.
- 23:41Speaker 2: It's going to take a while for Vegas to adjust.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Notre Dame, Wisconsin might go down as the worst uniform matchup.
- 23:52Speaker 1: In the history of college football, those Wisconsin Yetis. I'm
- 23:56Speaker 1: fine with Notre Dame's uniforms.
- 23:58Speaker 2: They were okay.
- 23:59Speaker 1: They could do better. They have done better. Those Wisconsin
- 24:02Speaker 1: uniforms were dreadful.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Dreadful.
- 24:05Speaker 6: The problem was you had Notre Dame and Wisconsin both
- 24:08Speaker 6: going for it. You could only have one team in
- 24:10Speaker 6: a game going for it.
- 24:12Speaker 7: Right.
- 24:12Speaker 6: Yes.
- 24:15Speaker 2: But Marcus Freeman would look good in the Wisconsin uniform, right?
- 24:18Speaker 6: He'd look good in anything.
- 24:26Speaker 1: If there was a punting Hall of Fame, Wisconsin's punt
- 24:32Speaker 1: would be first ballot.
- 24:34Speaker 2: The punter?
- 24:36Speaker 6: Just that one punt that he had.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Okay.
- 24:38Speaker 3: That one punt.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Hey, Notre Dame, Wisconsin. You're Notre Dame, Wisconsin. Don't get cute.
- 24:47Speaker 2: It was back to the uniform thing.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Skipped over.
- 24:49Speaker 2: It's the punting Hall of Fame. Is there a punting
- 24:54Speaker 2: Hall of Fame? I should have. I should have punted.
- 24:59Speaker 6: Ray Guy, I think, is in the punting Hall of Fame.
- 25:01Speaker 2: He has the naming right. It's the Ray Guy punters
- 25:03Speaker 2: Hall of Fame. Yes.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Well, he's in the Hall of Fame.
- 25:07Speaker 1: He's the actual Hall of Fame, right?
- 25:09Speaker 7: Sure.
- 25:10Speaker 2: He's the actual Hall of Fame.
- 25:15Speaker 1: The only thing that looked better in this game than
- 25:17Speaker 1: the punt was, of course, Marcus Freeman.
- 25:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Here's something to ponder. If Boston College didn't play college
- 25:27Speaker 1: football this season, how long would it take somebody to notice?
- 25:34Speaker 2: No need to discuss now. Just stash it away for
- 25:37Speaker 2: a rainy day. I'd go seasons.
- 25:44Speaker 6: I wish you didn't do this. Whatever happened to that
- 25:46Speaker 6: red bandana game that Boston College used to play? Oh,
- 25:49Speaker 6: Boston College hasn't played college football in 10 years.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yes.
- 25:51Speaker 6: Oh, wow.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Taylor, put it on the poll.
- 25:54Speaker 1: If Boston College didn't play college football this season, how
- 25:57Speaker 1: long would it take somebody to notice?
- 25:59Speaker 2: It's wordy. It's long. I understand that, but it's a
- 26:01Speaker 2: good poll question. Yeah, Mikey.
- 26:04Speaker 3: I wish you didn't ask that.
- 26:05Speaker 7: I wish in, like, week eight you would have said,
- 26:07Speaker 7: you know, Boston College hasn't played this season.
- 26:09Speaker 3: I would have been like, huh, they didn't?
- 26:11Speaker 2: Wow.
- 26:16Speaker 1: If Alabama still had standards, they would have fired Kalen
- 26:19Speaker 1: DeBoer after only getting a field goal on their opening
- 26:23Speaker 1: drive against ECU.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Pirates. There were people calling for it.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Miami.
- 26:31Speaker 3: They're calling Feinbaum. Yes.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Could have told Stanford to play, and Stanford still wouldn't
- 26:38Speaker 1: have stopped them. Here's what we're running.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Stop it.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Can't.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Louisville Ole Miss.
- 26:47Speaker 1: The rare game I turned off in the first half
- 26:51Speaker 1: and couldn't turn off in the second half.
- 26:53Speaker 2: One might say it was a tale of two halves.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Great game.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Ole Miss-Louisville. Thank you for saving the worst week one
- 27:04Speaker 1: of all time. The second half of Ole Miss and Louisville.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Game of the year.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Eric Morris, the rare coach who took his entire team
- 27:20Speaker 1: from North Texas to Oklahoma State and somehow looked worse
- 27:26Speaker 1: than than North Texas ever looked.
- 27:30Speaker 6: Almost impossible to do.
- 27:31Speaker 3: How do you do that?
- 27:32Speaker 2: You upgraded uniforms, everything, conferences.
- 27:35Speaker 6: And you didn't even play a Big 12 opponent. You
- 27:37Speaker 6: played Tulsa.
- 27:40Speaker 1: If Oklahoma State played Rutgers, it would set college football
- 27:44Speaker 1: back to the day Rutgers invented it.
- 27:46Speaker 3: They did.
- 27:56Speaker 1: It fell too early in the season to get Washington
- 28:00Speaker 1: versus Washington State.
- 28:02Speaker 2: The Apple Cup. That's a December game. What are we doing?
- 28:06Speaker 6: Yeah, it needs to be brisk.
- 28:07Speaker 2: What's happening?
- 28:11Speaker 3: Upsetting the Apple cart.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Hey.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Proud of you. Bryce Underwood. Act like you've been there before. Also,
- 28:24Speaker 2: just a reminder.
- 28:25Speaker 1: You stunk all game before that Hail Mary.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Michigan. You can't wear those uniforms and have that performance. Can't.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Too much ugly.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Michigan. Highway robbery. Michigan.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Screw job.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Michigan. Heist of the century. Michigan.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Rigged.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Michigan. Stole one. Michigan. Had the refs in their pockets.
- 29:02Speaker 2: I'd like to have a ref in my pocket.
- 29:05Speaker 4: That's good.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Mikey.
- 29:10Speaker 2: You know what the M in Michigan stands for?
- 29:14Speaker 3: No.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Miscarriage of justice.
- 29:19Speaker 6: How do you see that one coming, Mikey?
- 29:20Speaker 2: How could you?
- 29:21Speaker 3: I'm sorry. That's on me.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Michigan, Western Michigan. Taking a page out of soccer's book.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Extra time.
- 29:34Speaker 3: It's going to end when it all ends.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I mean, that's it. When I blow the final whistle,
- 29:38Speaker 2: that's when it's over. Yes.
- 29:40Speaker 3: We spoke about it all World Cup. What if they
- 29:43Speaker 3: brought this to sports and we said it would be awesome?
- 29:46Speaker 3: They did it. Now we're complaining about it.
- 29:49Speaker 1: In my personal record book, Michigan is 0-1 and Kyle
- 29:53Speaker 1: Whittingham is on the hot seat. If any voter puts
- 29:58Speaker 1: Michigan In the top 25 after that performance, they should
- 30:02Speaker 1: lose their vote forever.
- 30:04Speaker 2: They should.
- 30:06Speaker 1: It's a good thing Michigan is not known as a
- 30:10Speaker 1: program that cheats. If Western Michigan had beaten Michigan, Western
- 30:22Speaker 1: Michigan would have become Michigan, and Michigan would have become
- 30:27Speaker 1: Southeastern Michigan.
- 30:31Speaker 4: USM.
- 30:33Speaker 6: That would be such a good wrinkle. You play a
- 30:36Speaker 6: directional school, you lose.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yes.
- 30:37Speaker 6: Right now.
- 30:38Speaker 2: You have to go in their direction. You have to
- 30:39Speaker 2: take their direction. Yes. Their region.
- 30:41Speaker 6: Right now, North Carolina would be Central Carolina. And East
- 30:45Speaker 6: Carolina would just be the University of North Carolina. Because
- 30:49Speaker 6: ECU dominates us every time we play in football.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Oregon Ducks. Survive in advance. If it walks like a duck.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Ed quacks like a duck. It's overrated. Dante Moore. Overrated.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Dante Moore. This year's Drew Aller.
- 31:12Speaker 6: That's not fair to Dante Moore.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I didn't say it. You did.
- 31:17Speaker 6: Kate Klubnick, maybe. Garrett Nussmeier.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Dante Moore.
- 31:23Speaker 1: The rare quarterback who somehow looks like He's already on
- 31:27Speaker 1: the Jets while also trying to.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Avoid the Jets.
- 31:36Speaker 3: This year's Clayton Klubnick.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yes.
- 31:39Speaker 1: You know it's a bad slate when Duke Tulane gets
- 31:43Speaker 1: serious quad box consideration.
- 31:47Speaker 3: It's bad.
- 31:49Speaker 2: It really is.
- 31:50Speaker 6: You're just browsing around like, there's got to be a
- 31:52Speaker 6: fourth game here somewhere.
- 31:53Speaker 2: You're just searching for just anything.
- 31:56Speaker 6: It's almost never in the Duke-Tulane game.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Was it in your quad box?
- 32:00Speaker 6: No, I got consideration.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Okay, you were thinking about it. It didn't make it, yeah.
- 32:06Speaker 2: It's the last time you'll be thinking about that, right? Probably.
- 32:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Kirby Smart had never covered at Georgia as a 38-plus
- 32:16Speaker 1: point favorite.
- 32:18Speaker 2: You know what that means, Mikey?
- 32:21Speaker 4: He was due. They were due.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Nailed it. Baylor. Auburn. Rock fight. DJ Lagway.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Enough.
- 32:34Speaker 6: Enough.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I've seen enough. I've seen it at Florida. I've seen
- 32:39Speaker 2: it elsewhere. I've seen enough. You see one DJ Lagway,
- 32:42Speaker 2: you've seen them all.
- 32:43Speaker 6: How about that?
- 32:48Speaker 2: Put it in the bowl. Taylor, if you've seen one
- 32:52Speaker 2: DJ Lagway, have you seen them all?
- 32:55Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Texas A & M, the rare 50-burger with a side
- 33:01Speaker 1: of shutout. The least impressive 50-burger with a side of
- 33:05Speaker 1: shutout ever.
- 33:07Speaker 2: They played nobody.
- 33:09Speaker 6: Yeah, and it was like 26-0 kind of late in
- 33:12Speaker 6: that game, and then they ran it up at the
- 33:15Speaker 6: very end of the game. They outscored Missouri State 17-0
- 33:20Speaker 6: in the fourth quarter to get to 50-0.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Good teams win. Great team's cover.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Football's on, man. I knew Alabama.
- 33:37Speaker 1: ECU was over when ESPN showed that the ECU quarterback
- 33:44Speaker 1: was doing construction last year.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Guy was wearing a hard hat.
- 33:53Speaker 6: That's more like Virginia Tech-style football, yeah. Hard hat and
- 33:57Speaker 6: a lunch pail defense. Beamer ball.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yep. A GM resigning.
- 34:02Speaker 1: A defensive coordinator allegedly giving drugs to players. And everybody
- 34:07Speaker 1: having sex with everybody. Somehow, North Carolina still managed to.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Lose the bye week.
- 34:17Speaker 6: Just one week, I'd like nothing to happen.
- 34:19Speaker 2: You're 1-0, baby.
- 34:20Speaker 3: That's it.
- 34:20Speaker 6: No, we're 1-1 now.
- 34:21Speaker 2: We lost the bye week. You're 1-0, technically.
- 34:24Speaker 6: East Tennessee State coming up next.
- 34:26Speaker 2: If you were 1-1, he'd be fired. They are just waiting.
- 34:33Speaker 2: No game, yet hell of a week at Chapel Hill.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Speaking of hell, Mark Bryles. Mikey, those are the Week
- 34:45Speaker 2: 10 Observations.
