- 1:40SPEAKER_04: Your first podcast.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: I know, I'm I'm nervous, but see how it goes.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: There's plenty of people that have been on here that it's been their first podcast, so you'll be fine.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:52SPEAKER_04: What have you been up to lately?
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Uh not too much.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: I just finished uni a couple weeks ago, so now I'm sort of like in that limbo stage of you know, nothing's really going on, but I feel like everything's going on and I'm stressed, but I'm not stressed, so it's just you know how it is.
- 2:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and you're also you're well, you're a filmmaker as well, aren't you?
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: So yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: One of my um video essay I made was um it's in a film festival this week.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: So I've got that going on, yeah.
- 2:22SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: So uh is that something that everyone can watch or is it something that um Yeah, it's gonna be on Movie Notebook.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Um it's coming on some point this week, and then it'll just be there the whole time.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:39SPEAKER_04: Uh and also so what are you hoping to do like after like now you're finished?
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Um I mean I've got a lot of editing jobs like coming up at the moment, but I kinda wanna go more into screenwriting.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: But I'm happy enough to do the editing, I like the editing.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: I'll just You can do both always.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: So those are two things I'm focusing on.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: They're two very different things as well though, aren't they?
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: So like Yeah.
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: I remember like well when I was at uni, I wanted to initially I wanted to be a director, and then while I was there, I was like, oh no, I love screenwriting so much more.
- 3:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I got I got like sick of directing.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: And I remember like having to teach myself to edit at the time as well.
- 3:22SPEAKER_04: And kind of enjoying it a little bit.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I think I always thought editing would be the worst, and I was like, oh, I'd never want to do that, and then I was just like, I found it really easy, and I was like, Yeah, maybe maybe I could do this.
- 3:36SPEAKER_04: It's a little bit tedious, but at the same time, like it's quite fun to because like the the story's kind of in your hands as well.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can do what you want.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: And it's nice when you get like a good flow and you're like, oh, this is just so perfectly strung together.
- 3:52SPEAKER_04: It kind of leads us into this movie itself, which is just uh it's got some editing problems, I guess.
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: I think it's got a lot more than editing problems.
- 4:06SPEAKER_04: But you you really, really wanted to do this film, Manos, The Hands of Fate.
- 4:11SPEAKER_04: Is it Manos?
- 4:12SPEAKER_04: Is that how you pronounce it?
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: Manos, Manos.
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: It's widely considered the worst, one of the worst movies of all time.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Which I think is ridiculous.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: I I love this movie so much.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: There's like obviously there's like bad parts about it, like there's so many bad parts, but there's so many good parts that I feel like get overlooked.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Especially because it was like on Mystery Science Theater, which obviously gave made it like popular again, and they were just shitting on it, and I was like, well, you know what?
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: What about the character?
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Like, they're good characters.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: There's there's the link between the opening and the end, you know.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: I just I I love this movie so much.
- 4:54SPEAKER_04: Well, let's start with the reviews.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: So it's 0%.
- 5:03SPEAKER_04: The first zero percent to feature on here.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: Um but it only has 15 reviews.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: So that's not a lot.
- 5:13SPEAKER_04: Um but then it has an audience score of 20% with 5,000 reviews.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: That's too low.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: 20% is still higher than some of the movies that it's recommending on here though.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 5:29SPEAKER_04: So, you know, people still do so there are people that enjoy it, other than you.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Um That's good.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: But it was made in the it was made in 1966, or it came out in 1966, and um made on a budget of like under 20 grand or something.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was like it was a bet between the director and and the do you know the screenwriter Sterling Siffalant?
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: I think that's how you pronounce it.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: I think he did I think he wrote the Towering Inferno.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: He did something that was kind of big, but they like made a bet.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Like Sterling said you can't make a film for under 20 grand, and he was like, Yeah, I can.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: And he did it.
- 6:12SPEAKER_04: Literally 19 grand he made it for, so yeah, just about did it.
- 6:16SPEAKER_04: Um but can it be called a film?
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: Um absolutely, we shall see.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: Um it's an hour and change, like an hour and 14 it says, but I don't think it even scratch like quite makes that.
- 6:31SPEAKER_04: Um it's uh it has so the plot like the basic synopsis is this family get are trying to go to a hotel, they get lost and they they wind up at this like creepy house and it turns out that it's like run by or it's like there's like polygamous uh cultists there.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: That are making s like sacrifices They love women and they hate men, basically.
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:13SPEAKER_04: And that's that and it's run by the the master.
- 7:19SPEAKER_04: And the master is like um likes to sacrifice this manus, which is I think it means just means God, doesn't it?
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: It means hands.
- 7:27SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: It's called hands, the hands of fate.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Like translated.
- 7:33SPEAKER_04: Amazing.
- 7:35SPEAKER_04: Hands, the hands of fate.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 7:38SPEAKER_04: I mean that it does.
- 7:43SPEAKER_04: There are a lot of hands in this movie, so there's a lot of references to hands, and even the master's jacket or like robe has a ha big hand on it.
- 7:54SPEAKER_04: Um and then there's yeah, there's all the stuff with the like the giant stick with the hand on it.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Um lots of hands, but they don't really explain why.
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: No, they don't explain anything about nothing has explained this movie.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: There's no time.
- 8:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:12SPEAKER_04: Um and then there's like this weird so this fact there's the family, there's the master, and then there's Torgo.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Torgo, my favourite.
- 8:22SPEAKER_04: Torgo is the best character in this movie.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he really is.
- 8:25SPEAKER_04: He is the master's assistant who like takes care while the master is asleep.
- 8:30SPEAKER_04: I don't know what are they doing, like are they asleep or like what are what's going on?
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Maybe he's resting, you know, he's he's the master, he's got stuff to stuff to do.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: He needs his rest, his beauty sleep.
- 8:43SPEAKER_04: They kind of just like stay they they they lie in in the desert by some rocks.
- 8:53SPEAKER_04: And the the women the women surround like this this this like pole.
- 8:58SPEAKER_04: And then the master lies down.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: What's comfy?
- 9:03SPEAKER_04: It yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_04: And while that's going on, Torgo looks after the house.
- 9:10SPEAKER_04: And and then the but also we need to get to the fact that this is all redubbed.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, completely.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: And they when they were shooting it, the camera only recorded like 32 seconds of footage.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: So they'd be.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: I think her name was in it, or that's her real name.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Um, she was crying because like some woman dubbed over her voice and she thought it was gonna be her or whatever.
- 9:51SPEAKER_04: It's it's very sad.
- 9:53SPEAKER_04: Like, but then she did come back later for the sequel.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, she she's like so that's like her pride and joy is she did the sequel, the prequel, I think she didn't know.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: It's a prequel re Yeah, there was a prequel.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: I thought there was only seen either.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: I haven't seen either, but I need to watch the I don't even know where to find them, to be honest.
- 10:12SPEAKER_04: But I saw like I saw a clip of the the the sequel, like the trailers for it.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: But I can't find it anywhere either, and I'm so Oh you can't even find it.
- 10:20SPEAKER_04: I didn't even try and find it.
- 10:21SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm just like it was last night while I was doing some research on this and I was like, oh I found I I found the trailer for the sequel at least.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_04: And uh which I was not aware of before watching this.
- 10:34SPEAKER_04: Um I think it's fascinating that they're all like three of them came back, didn't they?
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_04: Uh the only two that didn't come back were the ones that are that have died since then, I think.
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: Um which is the director, also the who was also the father in this movie.
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: And then Torgo, who like sadly killed himself, like before this came out even, I think.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, before the primary.
- 10:59SPEAKER_04: Uh and he he had some issues where he was like on well he was like supposedly like wildly depressed, but he was also like heavily on NSD throughout this movie.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:13SPEAKER_04: And it's very noticeable.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: There was stuff about like I think it was debunked, but there was like this big thing about, you know, his like legs that he wears.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Um apparently they put them on backwards and it caused him all this pain, and they're like, and that's what drew drove him to suicide.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: But apparently that like wasn't true.
- 11:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I saw that I I saw people say it's like it's not true at all.
- 11:37SPEAKER_04: He like he made them himself, he was fine, he was just like Yeah.
- 11:41SPEAKER_04: And also he only wore them for like a couple of days, yeah, a couple of days, so it was like not enough time to get addicted to painkillers or anything.
- 11:49SPEAKER_04: Um but he's supposed to be like half man, half goat or something, isn't he?
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:57SPEAKER_04: Which isn't entirely clear.
- 11:59SPEAKER_04: No, it just looks like he's got weird legs.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: He's like so strange in this movie.
- 12:08SPEAKER_04: It's it's bizarre.
- 12:09SPEAKER_04: It's so creepy.
- 12:10SPEAKER_04: It's so creepy.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: But it's so good at the same time.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 12:14SPEAKER_04: I love his character.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: He makes it, yeah.
- 12:17SPEAKER_04: Well, at the same time, I love his character.
- 12:19SPEAKER_04: I hate I hate it because it so it makes me so uncomfortable, but like I guess that's what they're trying to do.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: I hope that's what they're trying to do, unless he was just like that, like just a real creepy guy.
- 12:31SPEAKER_04: Do you know, like how much do you know about I guess you know a lot about this, like go all the backstory and everything then behind it.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: I mean that's what I think I love about it, is like all the backstory, you know.
- 12:43SPEAKER_04: What can you tell us about it then?
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't know, I feel like now I've given up all my knowledge of um What do you think?
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: Oh now I've gone blind, I can't think.
- 12:58SPEAKER_04: So alright.
- 13:01SPEAKER_04: Let's see, like so Yeah, they say he was on LSD throughout the whole of filming, which is explains his like weird confused behaviour and twitching throughout all of his scenes.
- 13:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it says um oh, also one other thing that's fun that's very funny is that the only cast members who were paid were the little girl and the dog.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, who got like but it says only one of the dogs are paid, not both of them.
- 13:29SPEAKER_04: Oh, were there two dogs?
- 13:30SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, because they also have two dogs, yeah, yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_04: It's just the Doverman.
- 13:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, just like the Doverman got a bag of dog food and the little girl got a bicycle.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: But they the others were like promised like profits and whatever, which I mean you you read the script, you know that ain't gonna happen.
- 13:48SPEAKER_04: Is there an actual script to it then?
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: So it wasn't just like an improvised thing.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: I think some of it was probably improvised, but you can find a script.
- 14:02SPEAKER_04: So wait, so it's not just like a someone's typed it up again or anything, it's just like an actual old script of it.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: I think so, yeah.
- 14:09SPEAKER_04: Oh amazing.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: I can't say for sure, but I think so.
- 14:11SPEAKER_04: I want to go look that up after.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, it got basically like Was it were people aware of it until Mystery Science Theatre or had it or was it like something that they found?
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: I think that it pretty much died out and then they just brought it to light because it showed I think it showed like two nights in a theatre, like when it premiered, and then they did it, those like um like drive-in, like midnight movie stuff, but it wasn't really enjoyed, yeah, so to say.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: But once Mystery Science Theatre got it, it just went huge.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: And I think it's their highest rated episode.
- 14:49SPEAKER_04: It's one that I've definitely seen.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they apparently they reference that specific episode in loads of their other episodes as well, like just it was a that makes sense.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: I've I've not seen like too many of the of of the show, like too many episodes of the show, but I've definitely seen that one and I and I've seen like the movie and uh I don't know.
- 15:10SPEAKER_04: This one like this one definitely stands out though.
- 15:13SPEAKER_04: Um because it's so wild.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: It's yeah, he only did I'm reading now, he only did two takes of each shot, which you can tell.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: But I love that it's it's anti-cinema, as they say.
- 15:31SPEAKER_04: Well, I guess is that is that what you love about it, the fact that it's just like so anti everything that should be that should work.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: I just enjoy that they just made it.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: They were just like, let's do this, let's do it on a bed.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: It's not unlike I I mean I know it's not great.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: I know I know that it's not actually like a five-star movie, but I in my heart it is, and it could be.
- 15:56SPEAKER_04: You gave this five stars on letterboxed.
- 15:58SPEAKER_04: I saw that.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love Anna Heart.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: That's how much I love it.
- 16:04SPEAKER_04: I don't even know what the heart does on there.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: I think it just means like you really fucking love it, you know.
- 16:12SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, and then I saw uh there's only like two reviews on there, it's you and uh Mark.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well I think I forced him to watch that a couple times.
- 16:26SPEAKER_04: Uh who gave it three and a half stars.
- 16:29SPEAKER_04: Marcus um Mark used Lucy with Kat.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: I don't know if you you still live together now.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: No, we just moved out of our flat.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:38SPEAKER_04: Sad.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's it's a I mean three and a half is a fair score, I'd say.
- 16:45SPEAKER_04: I I couldn't even raise it.
- 16:48SPEAKER_04: I I don't know how to race it.
- 16:49SPEAKER_04: That's the thing.
- 16:50SPEAKER_04: It's like where do I even put this?
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: It's one of those movies, it's like I wouldn't give it three and a half.
- 16:57SPEAKER_04: I wouldn't I I don't I I can't give it nothing.
- 17:00SPEAKER_04: I can't give it three, and I can't give it five.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: I don't know where to put it.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: It's just one of those movies.
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: It really is.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: A five is well deserved.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: It needs some more love, you know.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Let's get it into like letterbox top movies.
- 17:15SPEAKER_04: Well you are you're only one of a handful of put people who gave it five stars.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: And mine's like not ironically, mine's like genuinely I fucking love this movie.
- 17:27SPEAKER_04: Um so it's Oh, it's filmed in El Paso.
- 17:32SPEAKER_04: Okay, that makes sense.
- 17:35SPEAKER_04: It feel it feels very California to me though.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I guess those sort of deserts.
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: There's something about it, if it's just like the California like 60s vibe, it gives that it gives off to me.
- 17:47SPEAKER_04: Um two and a half months to shoot it as well.
- 17:52SPEAKER_04: How did it take two and a half months to shoot this?
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Because they had to keep like re-cutting the filament, probably.
- 18:00SPEAKER_04: They only got two shots a day.
- 18:04SPEAKER_04: Because it's like, yeah, literally like every shot lingers as well.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: It's 30 seconds each shot.
- 18:13SPEAKER_04: Like they use it, they use the 32 seconds.
- 18:19SPEAKER_04: It doesn't feel like he's edited anything.
- 18:21SPEAKER_04: He just put the scenes together.
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: Because also I read that they edited it in like three to four hours.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Jesus Christ.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: I didn't even know that.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: But I feel like a lot of it, like, when they were shooting it, they're probably like, oh, we'll fix that in the edit.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Well, he did say that, yeah.
- 18:37SPEAKER_04: He said like when they were filming like the two two shots and it didn't work, he's like, we'll fix it with movie magic.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: That's such a me thing to say, like on set.
- 18:46SPEAKER_04: Have you ever you had said that then?
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, all the time.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh I'll fix that in the edit, and then I guess then I'm like, oh, why did I do this to myself?
- 18:55SPEAKER_04: Um so is this based on anything itself, or is it just kind of his own idea?
- 19:01SPEAKER_04: Do you know?
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: I think it's just his own idea, like as far as I know.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Um just because like he had to make something, you know, under 20 grand.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: It's it's a pretty simple story, I guess.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's a very simple story.
- 19:19SPEAKER_04: But it does have like a nice like full so full circle to it.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I I love about it.
- 19:26SPEAKER_04: Which I was like, oh yeah, this is quite good actually.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it it definitely has potential.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: It's like they remade it.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Like if they did it proper, they're like, okay, but we're gonna keep this the Torgo and Michael thing at the beginning and end.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: I think it yeah, that's the thing.
- 19:41SPEAKER_04: It does have a lot of potential there to be a good movie.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:45SPEAKER_04: It's just made by someone who can't make movies.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Oh well.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: With starring people who can't act.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Well, Torgo was a good actor.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: And the master was good, I'd say.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Like he was enjoyable to watch.
- 19:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:00SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, I'd say the master and Torgo are probably the two best in it, but at this but it's also like how I do wonder if it would have been better if we could hear them originally the original voices.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: True.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 20:15SPEAKER_04: I wonder if that gives it a disadvantage as well.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because it's quite distracting as well.
- 20:21SPEAKER_04: It's very distracting.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: It doesn't it doesn't line up with their mouths or anything.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Like ever.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 20:28SPEAKER_04: There's points where people will be talking and no one's saying anything.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's true.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, okay, so how many times have you seen this then?
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, I don't know.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: I've seen it the first time I saw it, I think I was like 12 or 13.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: And I watched it like loads of times.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Like when it first when I first saw it, I was like, oh, I gotta watch this again.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: How did you discover it?
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: So me and my stepdad used to love watching those like bad TV movies, like just when they came on, and then one day he decided, okay, I'm gonna find all the so bad they're good ones, and we're gonna watch them all.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: And that was the first one that we found because I think it was at the time like number one on the IMDB top or bottom 250.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: So we watched it.
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: I don't think they have anymore.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, do they not?
- 21:22SPEAKER_04: I don't see it.
- 21:22SPEAKER_04: It's but it's got a 1.8 rating there, and it's not on, it doesn't seem to be on a list or anything, so I don't think I think they got rid of that.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: Damn, that's sad.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Um, so we watched that and we were like obsessed, especially just because of that ending.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: We're like, oh my god, this is the best movie ever.
- 21:38SPEAKER_04: What a way to start as well.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: I know, and then we watched like two or three more, and we were like, yeah, these are just bad, and then we just kept rewatching manos.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: And now, like, I try to tell everyone, you gotta see this movie.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
- 21:52SPEAKER_04: It's definitely everyone needs to see this movie.
- 21:54SPEAKER_04: It's it's fun, it's so it's so fun to watch.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Definitely watch it with.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: people if you can as well for a bit more of a fun experience.
- 22:03SPEAKER_04: I think if you could see this at the cinema with other people, this would be so fun.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: I would love that that you know um apparent I don't know if this is true.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Apparently Quentin Tarantino has the original like reels of it.
- 22:18SPEAKER_04: It's not true.
- 22:19SPEAKER_04: It's not true I looked up well I looked it up I was reading about him and like apparently he said that not only is that not true but he's never seen it.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: No that hurts me I know that pains me because oh someone someone big's seen it.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: And then because he's got that like theatre in LA as well as like maybe he would show it there.
- 22:43SPEAKER_04: You would think so wouldn't you but but basically like what happened in 2011 someone found like the original uh where was it it says I saw it somewhere here uh let me just find so much trivia on this in 2011 Benjamin Solovy found the work print made from the original 16mm reverse stock uh and it was in pristine condition so he digitally released he digitally restored it and released it on DVD and Blu-ray which is why it looks so good now.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah I've got the DVD of it.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: You've got the DVD?
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah I do I watched it on YouTube in 1080p and I was like how is this 1080p?
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah the YouTube version's pretty bad but I think they put on a new version on YouTube recently.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: No that's what I mean.
- 23:33SPEAKER_04: I watched it in 1080p and it was really pristine.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: Oh I thought you were saying like it was bad yeah No no it looked really good and I was like how is this like how does this look so good?
- 23:43SPEAKER_04: Because it looks great and it it but it also looks awful yeah um but I love it I love the sort of like I don't know it's sort of like nostalgic in the shots you know the good vibes.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: So did you see the so when you when you first saw it did you see the like the bad quality version of imagination the crunkly terrible hard to watch because it like because there was a lot of like shots that would just have like a like a brown like a brown like uh filter almost over it and I was like but I still loved it like yeah and then I remember when they were doing the crowd funding for the the remaster oh they did a crowdfunding yeah yeah yeah and I remember in Bellclass seeing people um like wearing shirts that said like say Torgo the remaster or something I was like this so cool because who the fu I didn't think I'd ever see anyone like wearing that shit.
- 24:43SPEAKER_04: No I was like obsessed yeah especially like yeah like maybe you'd expect it in in like central London or something but like to to have it in Belfast?
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah so random I didn't know Belfast was like the the the hub of bad movies just me and this these other people who just love manos did you talk to them no they're on a bike I know I wish I could have and I was like what like 13 14 when they were doing that and I was like too scared to talk to people as well um I'm I'm looking up uh it says how much it costs for them to see it and it cost uh basically like children paid 35 cents to go see it and adults paid$1.25.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: I wish we had those cinema prices.
- 25:37SPEAKER_04: I know but back then that's probably quite expensive.
- 25:42SPEAKER_04: That's true yeah and the six 66 that would have been I don't even know what that would have been yeah like 20 million dollars or something that's that's that's what it was that's how much it's inflated now um working titles for this are weird The Lodge That makes sense The Lodge makes sense and then there's sins uh literally it's called sins or fingers of fate I really just wanted those hands and fingers in it fingers of fate is a little bit more sinister okay so let so yeah yeah you saw it for the first time and uh when you were like a uh twelve thirteen or whatever like or eleven like around that age uh and then many many times since uh did you watch it again uh for this or did you um did you just know it no I did watch it again I wanted to make sure I've had all the images and did it still hold up I honestly I think it was better than every time I've ever watched it I just was having a good time I was like this is so good it's I saw it for the first time I think I told you I saw it for the first time like years and years ago for Mystery Science Theatre and then I don't really like I remember watching it for that.
- 27:13SPEAKER_04: I'm not sure I remember much of it.
- 27:16SPEAKER_04: Much I don't I remembered it.
- 27:18SPEAKER_04: So when I was rewatching it now I when I watched it last night it felt like a whole new movie to me.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah well that's fun.
- 27:25SPEAKER_04: And it was I really enjoyed watching it even though it's like and it was short as well.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:31SPEAKER_04: Because it's only uh yeah it's an hour what an hour well this is saying an hour ten.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: I think it is about an hour ten.
- 27:41SPEAKER_04: Taken out everywhere saying like what different times Wikipedia says 70 minutes which is yeah so an hour ten.
- 27:49SPEAKER_04: IMDB says an hour ten and then Rotten Tomato says an hour fourteen so I don't know.
- 27:54SPEAKER_04: It feels yeah I think it's less than an hour ten even Yeah because they do have a lot of just long shots at the beginning and end which don't really feel like part of the movie you're just like waiting you know so okay let's let's talk through the movie then and maybe we can see like alright so it opens with like a family lost on a drive and there's like lots of scenes of like uh like scenes of them driving through like the middle of nowhere and like set to this like creepy jet Oh no first of all first of all it starts with them lost on a drive they pull over somewhere at basically they pull over first and they're like talking trying to figure out where to go and that's the first moment you see them like dubbed over yeah and the dad is so rude oh he's he's a horrible I hate him he's I hate him misogynist yeah you know awful yeah um but maybe that's the point because it's like not the point that he's a misogynist but maybe the point is that he's awful yeah yeah I but how does that work in with the rest?
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Because you shouldn't you be like feeling sympathy for him but now you just sort of I I don't know if you're supposed to just feel sympathy for the women I suppose that's true.
- 29:19SPEAKER_04: I don't know again you've seen this way more than me so um but yeah so like they they start singing row row row your boat it's just not lining up it's not it doesn't line up and they're clearly only singing it because it's free oh yeah yeah that's true because it's like let's all sing a song together um and and the kid creeps me out in this I'm sorry but the kid but I think it's because it's like an adult woman's voice like dubbed over it.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah yeah no that she is kind of creepy and then all she does is like sleep she's so boring.
- 30:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah she either sleep like she's almost like a it's weird but she's almost like a demon child I can see that yeah because the way she like her behaviour in this is so strange.
- 30:18SPEAKER_04: It is fucking weird like um but yeah like so they they basically they drive off they're like oh we'll keep we'll keep going we're gonna try and find the hotel which is like nearby or whatever after he gets like angry at the kid because a lot of times it's like it's just like shut up she just wants some fucking food.
- 30:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah um and there's this insane music that plays over like all the scenes love the music I love the sort of jazzy vibe of it all I think it's it's so 60s.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: So good I think they need like an album of just a music.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: It's like jazz flute isn't it and it's really creepy but like it's never been released I don't think no I think you can find it like on like a specific like website dedicated to manos but I don't think you can download any of it.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Oh no no no you can it's on Spotify let me just it's on Spotify I'm pretty damn sure that it is because I did I did like a blog about it for uni.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: I think let me just um yes there is Manos the Hands of Fate original soundtrack Family Vacation Love Inside This Magic Circle you know Portrait of Evil Are these made up titles?
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know but like because I remember fine on that website and I was like oh I can't get this anywhere and then I just looked it up how many listens has it got like on average does it say um I can't see on my phone I don't think let me try and look at my computer I'm I'm I it can't be more than like a thousand it's just like all me.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: It can't be put like you know it has the monthly listens or whatever it can't be more than a thousand that's yeah it came out in 2019 the original soundtrack oh yeah yeah that's all it doesn't actually say yeah maybe it's even less than yeah it's like zero it's not I you know what I think it is actually like near on zero because it's got not even got like a bar on the plays oh well it's gonna soon like jump up um but so you you got must be the only person that loves that music like I cannot no I think a lot of people like in the letterbox reviews I think a lot of people say oh the music slaps you know the movie terrible the music that's where it's at it's really creepy so maybe it does its job um but they um so they're driving through like these uh the middle of nowhere and like nothing is going on and apparently that was supposed to be like the opening credits yeah it's stuck over there but they didn't do that yeah they forgot about it in their four hour editing we have no time let's just put the essentials in um or everyone was like I don't want to be crazy please don't but they get pulled over by the police for a busted taillight in the funny like this really funny scene where he's like the he's like uh the police policeman's like uh don't give me any excuses I don't want to hear it I don't uh I don't care about anything it's like oh can you just give me a break it's like okay I love that the police are the most useless two people in this entire movie no they really are I mean they're just like the most accurate police yeah the true to life you know very true to life police um but they go they're trying to find Valley Lodge and it says like there's a sign that says it's 10 miles away so they're like oh we're close they follow this pathway they follow this path down they get lost again they wind up at this house yeah well can I say something about this they like go all the way up this thing and then they're like let's turn back and they're like well that was never here before and that makes me think they've like entered a different dimension or like a parallel world where these things are like but that's just a thought I don't know that's kind of like a big theory interesting yeah that could make sense yeah that's why Torgo would be there with his his legs yeah that would make more sense and it makes sense why no one can find them yeah um but while that's going on there's like a weird cut to like uh these people making out in a car these like two teen like teenagers they're supposed to be like teenagers yeah 30 year olds yeah one of them's got a wedding ring on literally um and I just wrote down like because the the there's like weird cuts in the middle of like the shots where they'll be like doing something and then it will cut and they'll be like in a completely different position to how they were in the middle of them talking um but this is when we first meet Torgo because they pull up the house and he's there and like you said like they they turn back but then they find this place um and he's like the master is away um do we see his legs we don't see his legs at first do we no we don't see it until he's gone to get the uh the luggage yeah um and he but it it says the master is away and then it lingers on him and he's just like shaking so creepy it's terrifying and it's like it lingers beyond like any time it should yeah it's not even like an artistic thing it's just it's like the full 30 seconds because I think all he says is the master is away and then it just like keeps the camera on him for 30 seconds while his eyebrows go crazy.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: His eyebrows are wild they put like little like extra eyebrows like on the I thought so I thought they had to have done something um and says is it him that says there's no way out of here it must be yeah yeah there's no way out of here he says it like twice oh yeah he says it and it like it's like almost like he's repeating it for the Yeah no they do that a lot in in this specific scene which is probably my favourite scene honestly there's so it's so chaotic.
- 37:21SPEAKER_04: It's it's what it's like the first introduction of like how crazy this movie's gonna be um and I wrote down that Torgo's a crackhead before I read up about this pretty accurate I mean turns out it's LSD but well everyone was doing it back then.
- 37:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah clearly because he was on it apparently on it for the entire shoot um but the family decide they're gonna go inside and like Torco's like fine you can come in but the master's not gonna like it um and they go inside and there's the there's like a they see the painting of the master with his dog and it's so creepy.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: It's terrifying and can I tell you I painted it like I recreated it for my stepdad.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: I was saying it's let me show you please find it on it because they love it they've got it up like right here you're looking straight at the Jesus it's cute I know I'm like I'm watching it watch me as I talk about it.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: But you've got a fan anything from us can you please post that in the replies when we put this up 100% yeah that is so funny it's a real that looks like very accurate to it as well I had I had it I was like I gotta do this as well as I can because I'm not a fucking artist but I'm proud of that.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: That is something to be proud of yeah but anyone who has it's like a literally exactly how it looks in the world and it's huge like what size is that uh I don't know like not a not a wings fan but maybe a two-thirds of a wings fan it's pretty pretty massive I try to make it true to size I thought it was gonna be like a little like postcard size or something no um but yeah like then Torgo comes up behind with this little like creepy hand thing and he posts and he posts the and he starts talking about how the master has left this world yeah like he's dead and they're and then they're like oh so he's dead and he's like I never said that what are you all about which yeah I mean he's left this world for the moment he's just like kind of gone to a a greater beyond yeah deep sleep yeah taking a nap and they go outside and they hear this like wolf noise and the dog runs after they just let the dog run after it she the daughter like pushes the dog off the sofa so he'll go out the door yeah it's just like really called pop like puppy or peppy because it sounds like I wrote it down because it's Peppy.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: It sounds like they're saying puppy and I was like that's such a stupid name.
- 40:31SPEAKER_04: I know it's Peppy like right we got a puppy what could we call it Peppy so creative.
- 40:41SPEAKER_04: But yeah they hear a wolf noise and then they they just leave the dog to go after it and then the the the dad goes into the car and like gets a torch and a gun just what he needs and he goes like and he goes he's like get back in the house yelling at the rest of them and then he goes he like immediately finds the dog dead yeah and then the mum's just like crying her eyes out and he's like get inside now yeah but then don't they they s they don't tell the daughter but they sort of tell her they do tell her but they don't tell her do they tell her it's dead without saying yeah they're like yeah but then she keeps asking where it is and it's like oh shut up that's what I mean she's like very annoyed they're also like they're also not the not very good parents no terrible um because they sit they sit and they're like oh the dog's dead and then like suddenly the dog then they wake her up and she's like where's where's Peppy?
- 41:53SPEAKER_04: And they're like he's gone he's gone away shut up go back to sleep yeah um but they well they want to leave obviously at this point but the the dad's like insistent it was some kind of like wildlife that killed the dog which would make sense yeah I mean you wouldn't think there's like a cult out in the woods.
- 42:20SPEAKER_04: I also wouldn't have gone to say with Torgo but like Oh that's true as soon as I met Torgo I was like there's no way I'm going to this man's house but you find out the master wants the uh the mother for his wife yeah this is when you find the one and so does Torgo and so does Torgo and Torgo's like creepily caressing her yeah like her hair he's like and I wrote I just wrote down Torgo stop and he's all sweaty as well I was wondering how much of that was just like acting and how much of that was just like he didn't know what he was doing.
- 43:05SPEAKER_04: Oh it's so sad they actually told him not to do it and he just starts doing it on anyway but they go to they they go to Lee if the car won't start and then they find out there's no also no phone.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah for like 10 miles or something yeah and she's like 10 miles that must be like that might as well be 10,000 miles not that bad yeah you could walk it um and immediately they realise Debbie's gone Debbie the daughter's gone missing yeah but she like just she sneaks out right behind them and then they're like where is she?
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: But when the are you talking like when the mum opens the door but she doesn't even open it she just like creaks it open she's like nope she ain't here yeah
- 44:00SPEAKER_04: And he's like and they they go to Torgo, do you know where where she where she is?
- 44:03SPEAKER_04: And he's like, I don't know.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: Oh classic Torgo.
- 44:10SPEAKER_04: And uh I'd immediately be like, Torgo has taken her.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:17SPEAKER_04: But she's like, um turns out she's run away and she brings back another dog.
- 44:23SPEAKER_04: She's found.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: From the photo.
- 44:26SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, it's the dog from the photo.
- 44:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:28SPEAKER_04: And they're like, Debbie, where did you find that dog?
- 44:32SPEAKER_04: And they you find out that it's you see like the master and the women for the first time, I think.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:41SPEAKER_04: Um and this is like halfway through the movie.
- 44:46SPEAKER_04: Um and Tor this is you only find you see Torgo talking to them, uh talking to the master because he like brings he wakes the master up, I think.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:58SPEAKER_04: And he's like starts saying how I don't know, maybe he doesn't no, he doesn't wake him up at this point, he's just talking to the master.
- 45:07SPEAKER_04: Without him like being awake.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, he's talking to like the master and the wives.
- 45:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:12SPEAKER_04: Because he's like creeping on the wives as well.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's like, you get all these wives and I don't get one.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's like, I want this one for myself.
- 45:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:20SPEAKER_04: Um and he knocks then he nick the next thing he does is like knock Michael out with the hand.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: And then he's like trying to drag him.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he just drags him across and then ties him up.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um that's amazing.
- 45:35SPEAKER_04: Ties him to a tree.
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: And this is when the master wakes up for the first time.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:40SPEAKER_04: And he starts doing the whole thing of like praying to Manos.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:45SPEAKER_04: Um just like a good scene.
- 45:47SPEAKER_04: It's like a nice creepy scene.
- 45:50SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, yeah, I think you're right.
- 45:52SPEAKER_04: The m the master is very good in this.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that I think his like his prayer scene or whatever is very uh I think it's well shot.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: I think that was like one really good genuine part of it.
- 46:06SPEAKER_04: He's probably like the best actor in this.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely.
- 46:09SPEAKER_04: Um which is interesting.
- 46:14SPEAKER_04: So you've seen the clip of him in the new one, haven't you?
- 46:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:18SPEAKER_04: He looks so creepy in that.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: He's pretty terri- Well, it's he's all like old and sunken in and stuff, but it works perfectly for that character.
- 46:25SPEAKER_04: It's also the same year he died, so like Yeah.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: Adds to the creep factor.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: Um, but then the all the wives wake up as well, and it means to this like weird argument scene.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they're fighting for it feels like forever they fight, you know.
- 46:45SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's so long.
- 46:46SPEAKER_04: They're all debating whether to kill Debbie or not.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but like like people a lot of people say like, oh, it's really creepy because not to get right to the end and spoil it, but you know, Dev uh Debbie becomes uh one of the wives.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, it's so creepy, and it's like, well, initially the master was like, no, let's kill the kid, I don't want no kid.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: So at least he's against child wives.
- 47:13SPEAKER_04: But also, like, it's creepy itself, so like it only adds to the creep factor.
- 47:17SPEAKER_04: Like the whole thing is creepy.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, like 100%.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: None of it's normal.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: No, no, I'm just saying that at least he didn't want a child wife.
- 47:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 47:28SPEAKER_04: But then he still has one.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:32SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, like Torgo they they the master the master decides that Torgo's failed him, and so Torgo must die.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:42SPEAKER_04: Um and the women are talking about how they remember what that the women know what Torgo was saying to them and doing to them, which is so creepy.
- 47:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 47:52SPEAKER_04: It's just like, are they under a like hypnotism or something?
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: It must be Yeah, like they're in a coma, but they can hear everything.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, that is so gross.
- 48:01SPEAKER_04: And what they are so they all attack Torgo.
- 48:07SPEAKER_04: Like drag him onto the side.
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: But then they just sort of like scratch.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: They're like, we're gonna kill him, and they're just sort of like slap him a bit.
- 48:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, some of the slaps sound really painful though.
- 48:17SPEAKER_04: I think he starts bleeding, doesn't he?
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: That's when the master hits him and starts bleeding, yeah.
- 48:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, only the master can make him bleed.
- 48:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:26SPEAKER_04: Um but one woman, I think.
- 48:30SPEAKER_04: Is it one woman or is it the wife?
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: She wait someone tries to wait Michael.
- 48:36SPEAKER_04: It must be one of the women.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: I think yeah, it's one of yeah, one of the women and they No, because he wakes up on his on his own.
- 48:46SPEAKER_04: Because someone comes up to him and starts like whispering something to him.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: And then he just breaks out of his little Torgo tied-up trap.
- 48:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:55SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, while this is going on, the women are fighting, they try to kill Torgo, and uh the master sets uh Torgo's hand on fire.
- 49:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and like the hands separate.
- 49:09SPEAKER_04: There's like there's like a weird cut, and suddenly like he's got his ha like a burnt hand.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: And it's like his his like sleeve is on fire as well.
- 49:18SPEAKER_04: The sleeves on fire, and then there's like a um the master's holding Torgo's hand on its own, like burnt.
- 49:24SPEAKER_04: Um and the master starts beating the women.
- 49:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:31SPEAKER_04: Which is awful.
- 49:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:33SPEAKER_04: Horrible.
- 49:34SPEAKER_04: We don't need to see that.
- 49:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:36SPEAKER_04: Uh the family run into the desert.
- 49:40SPEAKER_04: They just decide to leave.
- 49:42SPEAKER_04: Smart, yeah.
- 49:43SPEAKER_04: This is really funny to see, because they find a snake.
- 49:47SPEAKER_04: And the dad shoots it with a snake.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Just sort of slithers away.
- 49:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:54SPEAKER_04: Well, the funniest thing I read about it is that footage of the snake is not uh it's like stock footage from Disney.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, and that's why it looks really different to anything else in this movie.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: And that's why apparently that's why it's on a carpet as well.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 50:12SPEAKER_04: So it's supposed to be in the desert.
- 50:14SPEAKER_04: It's on a carpet.
- 50:15SPEAKER_04: Um but apparently like the footage looks like a lot clearer than anything else.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, definitely.
- 50:22SPEAKER_04: Um the funniest this is the funniest line in the whole movie because like they um Debbie's like complained, she's like, I want to go home, and and the dad just goes, please Debbie, not now.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: Well, she's fucking annoying, like she deserves that.
- 50:45SPEAKER_04: She didn't do anything at that point, she just said I want to go home.
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: And it's like, well, what do you expect of a little kid that you're dragging in a desert?
- 50:54SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's weird, and the dogs just died.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's weird.
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: Oh god, then the another really funny scene, like the weirdest scene of like the police come go to the desert and they because they hear a gunshot and they go, they make they go two steps, they go, Well, the gunshot could be from anywhere, it could be from in Mexico, for all we know.
- 51:20SPEAKER_04: Alright, let's leave.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, that is funny.
- 51:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're the fucking worst.
- 51:27SPEAKER_04: And apparently that's to do with like the fact that they they didn't have like the lighting or anything to shoot anything else.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: Then why bother?
- 51:37SPEAKER_04: I know, I know.
- 51:39SPEAKER_04: Just don't have the police in it at all.
- 51:40SPEAKER_04: It adds nothing to it.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: No, that that and the the couple making out is like because there's a part where they just like put it in again, like you see Michael like running, and it's this, and it's like this adds nothing.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: Why is this here?
- 51:57SPEAKER_04: Um the couple are only there to like lead the police to these people who are also there to do nothing.
- 52:04unknown: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:05SPEAKER_04: So, like, what is the point of them?
- 52:07SPEAKER_04: Uh, but this is where it gets interesting because they get back to the house at or like the air desert area, and Michael sees Oh no, it isn't the house because Michael shoots the master.
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: But nothing happens.
- 52:22SPEAKER_04: No, he's just staring at him, like just stares at him, you don't see anything, and so you're like, oh, what's going on here?
- 52:29SPEAKER_04: And then it cuts to like another day, and this new car is heading down the same path uh towards the house, and it looks like everything's kind of like reset.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it's normal.
- 52:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like it's all gone back to normal.
- 52:48SPEAKER_04: But then it cuts and you see uh the all the uh the the wife and the daughter are now the wives of the master and it cuts to Michael and he's like comes out the house and he's like he's now the assistant, he's now Torgo.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: He is the new Torgo, and that just That is like the best The best ending ever It's a really good ending It's a really good ending It really like makes up for the rest of it It does you know I was like oh that's a great ending I'm so impressed by that I love the full I love when a movie goes full circle like that.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: But then it says then it ends with the end question mark.
- 53:35SPEAKER_04: I missed that.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, it's just like I oh maybe there's a bit of credits or I didn't watch the credits, I just I turned it off off the Right, and then it's just the end question mark setting it up for a sequel got made like 50 years later or whatever.
- 53:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like almost so it'll be 50 Yeah, wait more than 50 years later.
- 53:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:00SPEAKER_04: Oh wowing.
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: Damn.
- 54:04SPEAKER_04: That's so wild.
- 54:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 54:06SPEAKER_04: It's one of the longest distances between a sequel, uh, original prequels.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and the prequel and sequel came out in the same year.
- 54:13SPEAKER_04: I want to know about this prequel now.
- 54:15SPEAKER_04: What do you know anything about it?
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: Well, I guess I do, because let me tell you about this fucking prequel.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: When I was 14, um, I decided for my stepdad's birthday, I was gonna write him a prequel to Manos.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: And it was about how Torgo became Torgo.
- 54:36SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 54:37SPEAKER_01: And I specifically wrote it so it was like really like badly made, like they repeat themselves and shit like that.
- 54:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:46SPEAKER_01: And then four years later, the prequel comes out and it's about how fucking Torgo becomes Torgo.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: I they stole my fucking idea.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: They went onto my Google Docs and stole my idea.
- 55:00SPEAKER_04: Boo.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: Boo this man, David Roy.
- 55:05SPEAKER_04: Uh it's called Yeah, Mano's the Rise of Torgo.
- 55:10SPEAKER_04: This doesn't even look good.
- 55:12SPEAKER_04: Like it doesn't even-I don't wanna watch it.
- 55:15SPEAKER_04: It doesn't even look enjoyably bad.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I feel like What?
- 55:20SPEAKER_04: Matt Rogers is Torgo?
- 55:23SPEAKER_04: Shut up.
- 55:25SPEAKER_04: Matt Rogers is like a a comedian.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 55:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this this might just be like a a spoof.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: But I feel like there's so much legacy to it now.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: I feel like if anyone made any sort of prequel or sequel or remake, it's just gonna be bad.
- 55:43SPEAKER_01: It's like Berdamic 2, like he only made it because so it would be like so bad and people would buy into that.
- 55:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's like once you're aware of it, it it takes away from the the fun of like why it's bad.
- 55:57SPEAKER_04: It's like anything that Tommy Weizer's done since then.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:01SPEAKER_01: I haven't watched any of his other stuff apart from the room.
- 56:04SPEAKER_01: Because he just too self-aware now.
- 56:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:07SPEAKER_04: It doesn't, it's not fun.
- 56:08SPEAKER_01: Which is like, I guess, its own kind of anti-cinema, as they say.
- 56:13SPEAKER_01: No, it's really it's just kind of boring.
- 56:16SPEAKER_04: It's just like boringly bad, as opposed to like funny for the sake.
- 56:20SPEAKER_04: It's like him trying to be funny.
- 56:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like me on Twitter trying to be funny.
- 56:26SPEAKER_01: It just doesn't work out.
- 56:28SPEAKER_04: No, no, you're so unfunny on Twitter.
- 56:32SPEAKER_04: Um this came out in I'm I'm so fascinated by this now.
- 56:38SPEAKER_04: I do, I think I do need to watch it as well.
- 56:42SPEAKER_04: Wow, there's baby Torgo, toddler Torgo, and Torgo.
- 56:47SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: That sounds so terribly good, you know.
- 56:54SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 56:55SPEAKER_04: I I need to look this up and find it somewhere.
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: There's also uh there's a I think it's on like 30-minute documentary called Hotel Torgo.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: And I watched I watched it years ago, but I remember not liking it.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: I don't remember a fucking thing that was about.
- 57:11SPEAKER_01: I guess it was about the making of it or something, but it's more being so bored.
- 57:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 57:17SPEAKER_04: What what is it about Torgo you think that like people love so much?
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: I think because he is just such a you don't really see that like lit a legitimately just bonkers guy, yeah.
- 57:31SPEAKER_01: You know, just too in his thing, being creepy, being sweaty, having weird legs and weird eyebrows.
- 57:40SPEAKER_04: I w do you know like how much was intentional?
- 57:45SPEAKER_04: Do you know anything about it?
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: I I don't know.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: I don't think anyone really can really know how intentional a guy who is on LSD acting like that was.
- 57:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's true, but I mean how much was written into it that was like supposed to be like that, and um I can't say for sure.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: I will we'll have to look at the scripts and it's it's very weird.
- 58:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 58:14SPEAKER_04: It's so strange.
- 58:15SPEAKER_04: Ugh.
- 58:16SPEAKER_04: What a strange, strange movie.
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: It's so interesting.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: That's what makes it's like a cult movie, like people love it because of all the backstory and the lore and whatever, and that's what makes it so good.
- 58:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think the backstory really adds to it, and like everything around it.
- 58:31SPEAKER_04: Um there's so much to it as well.
- 58:35SPEAKER_04: I can't believe how much trivia there is to this movie.
- 58:39SPEAKER_01: I know, but then sometimes you think like, oh, is is any of or is is is all of this really true, or is it just like added in because it anything goes at this point?
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: Like it could have been anything.
- 58:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 58:55SPEAKER_04: Tom Naaman.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:57SPEAKER_04: Oh, the master that's the master.
- 58:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:59SPEAKER_04: He says he painted that portrait.
- 59:03SPEAKER_04: So he did a self-portrait.
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: And I think they did it because there's a shot in it of him and the dog.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: Um I think they might have painted it after they shot it because you don't see like you don't really you don't see the the husband and wife actually in shot with it.
- 59:24SPEAKER_01: But that's what it just because I remember looking at his hair and being like, that's so specifically exact that you couldn't recreate that.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 59:33SPEAKER_04: Possibly then.
- 59:34SPEAKER_04: And it says Torgo was originally named Egor.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: Makes sense.
- 59:39SPEAKER_04: Which makes sense, yeah.
- 59:40SPEAKER_04: It's a little bit too on the nose, though.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: I think Torgo's a great name.
- 59:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 59:45SPEAKER_04: I just love that he was supposed to be half man, half goat, and then he just like dropped that.
- 59:51SPEAKER_01: It's the way he sort of like dances around with the legs on as well.
- 59:56SPEAKER_01: Or when like, you know, there he's like taking out the the suitcases and he's like, the master does not want you to stay here, you have to go, and I was like, well, why are you helping them in, buddy?
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_04: Um have you seen the Mystery Science Theatre version?
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_04: D were you annoyed by it?
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_01: I just Genu, like any time I've watched any of the other episodes, like I'm enjoying it and having fun.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_01: But I feel like this just is I don't want to say better than like it it How do I describe it?
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_01: I just don't like the the Mystery Science Theatre version because I feel like they'd being too just too jokey and it's like, well take it a bit seriously.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: Which I know isn't the point of the show.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_01: I just I feel like it deserves so much more.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_01: What what is it that you think of what what what do you think makes it deserve so much more than like I just feel like you're not getting enough of the movie with them always talking over it.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: Like I feel like you're missing out on shit.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: But I don't know.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_04: But do you not think that with all of the other movies as well then?
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: No, just manos, just I have a lot of feel like it just is so good.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_01: It's a comfort movie, it just makes me happy.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_01: It it just serves the world.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: It's more than Mystery Science Theatre, but at the same time, Mystery Science Theatre made it big again, and I probably wouldn't have heard of it if it wasn't.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_04: That's true, I don't think anyone would have been aware of it.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_04: Because like before '93, you don't think anyone was talking about it really.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: No, definitely not.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_04: Um god.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_04: I'm just looking at the FAQ.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this is where I saw the uh the Tarantino thing.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_04: This is uh about the print and it says no, it's just an urban legend.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_04: The person behind the restoration asked him about it and he said he hadn't even seen the movie.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_01: I hope he's seen it now.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he must I I don't know if I believe that he hasn't seen it.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_01: He does seem like because he loves his references.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: It seems like he would have watched it just to see if he can get anything from it.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_03: And what's his it says Torgo is Torgo as sati satire?
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_03: Satire S-A-T-Y-R.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_01: Oh uh like a a Seder?
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: Seder, yeah.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_04: It says he was only intended to be one, but it was scrapped after the first draft of the screen.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_04: I can't believe there's more than one draft, sorry.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_04: Um he was intended to be a hunchback type deformed henchman.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_04: Uh a literal hunchback was considered too cliche and overdone, so they went with knees instead.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_01: The next best thing.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_04: I think it was great because it makes it does make him stand out as like a henchman.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it just makes him seem like a I don't want to say like a weird guy, but I don't know.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_01: He yeah, he's different.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: You can see that.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_01: And it's good.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_04: I wish it had ended with Michael having those legs.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: That would so but then that was sort of says that like he's just always had those legs.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that means that he's always just been like that.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_01: I never thought of that.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah, Michael should have had because Michael has like the tone of voice at the end.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_04: Uh so he obviously takes on the character, and it's like taking on the characteristics, everything about him, but without the He's got the spirit, yeah, just not the knees.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_01: And they don't they just look like he's got big knees.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_01: Like big things.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_04: Just looks like they're protruding out.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_01: Like he needs to go to the hospital right now.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_04: Um Okay, so other than that, what do you have to do uh what what about this do you really want to defend specifically that we haven't talked about?
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_01: I just I just think that it gets too much hate.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: If you actually just watch it without Mystery Science Theater, decide for yourself.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_01: Um look at it objectively, like, oh you know, this this works.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_01: This is I just want everyone to love it as much as I do.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: I just have so much love for it.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't even feel like I should have to defend it.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_01: I feel like people should just watch it and love it.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_01: And that's that.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_04: It's kind of like a movie where it's like how how do you even defend it itself because it's so wild.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_04: Like it's not this you can't like it's you either love it or hate it sort of thing.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_04: I I I'm very, very aware of how bad it is, but I still had such a fun time watching it.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it's it's like the room, you know, people say so terrible, but you're enjoying it.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you have a lot of fun watching them.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_01: You're in on the joke a bit, you know?
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_04: And like this is more fun than a lot of movies that I watch on a regular basis.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_04: It's it's more fun than a movie that's like trying too hard to be take itself seriously.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_01: They were just doing their thing.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_01: They were like, let's win this bet.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_04: And so obviously he did win the bet then.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, I don't did he win anything for it, or was it just like what was the bet?
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was gonna say, what was the bet for?
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_04: Was it for 19 grand?
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_01: I can't remember, honestly.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_01: I just know because he used to be like a like an extra actor, and then he always ran into like that screenwriter, and then he was just like talking shit about how easy it is to make a film, and he's like, Oh, you really think so?
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_01: Do it, it's under 20 grand, and he proved them right, you know.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: Or proved them wrong.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_04: No, you pr I think he I think he did it.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_04: So um I'm trying to read about this.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_04: Is what's an explanation of the ending?
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_04: After the master burns off Torgo's hand and Torgo runs away, um Michael and his family are put under a spell so my master can.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_04: Control them, Michael's chosen take over Tor Torgo.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_04: Ooh, but it does say the director had Torgo run off screen because on the off chance the film was successful, so Torgo could be part of the sequel.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_04: So Torgo was always intended to come back.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_04: Torgo lives.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: He's still in those uh deserts.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_01: Running about.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_04: One hand and big knees.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_00: Per guy.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_04: I think you should write a sequel to the Torgo uh movie.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_04: I like it.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_04: I'll be Torgo.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_04: Like see let's see what would happen.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_04: Now you've written you've written the prequel.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_04: I think you somehow need to make that as well.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: I'll try my hardest.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_04: Do you still have it?
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_04: We should do a reading of it.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_01: Let me see.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_04: I don't mean right now.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_04: I don't mean we should just read it.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_01: Thank God.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_04: No, I mean we should stay at reading of it.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_01: We de 100%.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_01: That would be fun.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_01: We gotta get all our characters.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_04: Can I be Torgo?
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 1:07:08unknown: Yes.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_01: I think I started where he had like a different name and then he becomes Torgo.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_01: But he was like a he was like a businessman who just wanted to get out of town.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_01: Like driving down Route 66, because I was really into that at the time.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_01: And then Oh no, he wasn't no, he didn't have a different name.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_01: He I thought he had a different name, but the guy he was still Torgo, but the guy who was the the Torgo before Torgo was called Hansel.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_04: Oh Hansel.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_01: Hansel.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know like Hansel and Gretel, I can't remember why I chose that name.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_04: Hansel.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_01: That's perfect.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_04: Um cool.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_04: So alright.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_04: Do you have anything else that you want to talk about with this movie?
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_04: Or shall we move on to the final segment?
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_01: Um I just want to say I think everyone should watch it.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_01: That's all I have to say.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_04: Please watch this movie.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_04: Please.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_04: It's so easy to find.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_04: You just go on literally go onto YouTube, it's there under like five different versions.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_04: They're all in HD.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_04: Um okay.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_04: So for the final segment then, we're gonna talk about the reverse of this.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_04: And I'm very curious to hear your your opinion because you're a film student or you were a film shooter.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_04: Um do you have a reverse of this, which is um a movie that is widely loved by critics and fans that you think is a bad movie?
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_01: Okay, this is a difficult question because I love like everything, obviously.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_01: Well, there's nothing I'd say like is really good that I'm like, oh, this is trash.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: But I do have a couple that I just find boring, which are Notting Hill.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_01: Don't give couldn't give two shits about that.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_01: Um okay.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_01: We need to talk about Kevin.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_01: I like, I guess, but it just makes me really sad and upset and made me I used to hate it, because I'm like, oh, this is so bad.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_01: But it was just because it just made me sad.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_01: Um possibly controversial, but the original Chain Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_01: I don't hate it, but I think the second one is just like a masterpiece and it makes the original look like dog shit.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_04: I think it'd be interesting to talk about that given that it's another like low-budget horror movie.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_01: So I think that's just what I like.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_01: But yeah, no, um.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_04: Do you want to talk about that one or do you want to talk about Notting Hill?
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_04: Unless you got something else.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, talk about talk about the the Texas.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_04: So what what do you hate about the original then?
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_01: Well, it's not that I hate it.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_01: I feel I was just bored watching it.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_01: And I guess it's because I sort of because like so many movies that came after it sort of copied it in a way or you know got a lot of inspiration from it.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_01: I just thought watching the original and I was like, yeah, this is this is this is fine.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_01: This is When did you see it?
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_01: 15 years old, maybe.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_01: So maybe if I rewatched it, I appreciate it more, but Oh, you only seen it the one time.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_04: No, no, the reason I was asking him was because I was like, I wonder how scared you were while watching it.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_04: But like 15, you're probably fine.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_01: No, I was just like, this is it is what it is.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_01: And then I saw the sequel because I've never seen the sequel.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: It is so good.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_01: It's so like camp.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_01: And it's so it's just so entertaining, and I feel like it's got a more entertaining story because it's not just about um just killing these these people or whatever.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_01: You've got you sort of you have fun with it, you see them having fun down in their little underground basement and stuff, and it's so it's I I just have a good time watching it.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_01: But generally, like I like most films.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_01: I don't think there's any like considered like great films that I'm like, oh this is this is terrible.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_01: I think like everything has its merits.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_04: I want to hear about Notting Hill now, because it's like I just such a snooze vest.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_01: I don't even it just I hate that it's so like well regarded or whatever.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_01: I'm just like, why?
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_04: This is I'm just I've never liked Notting Hill.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_04: I'm not I don't like Richard Curtis movies.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_01: And I love I love like romance and all that, and I love um Hugh Grant and and Julia is it Julia Robin?
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_01: I fucking love them.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I was just like so bored.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_01: So bored.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_04: I don't like Richard Curtis's like rich white romance movies.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_04: I think they're so boring.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I feel like they don't really hold up either because you're just like you again.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_04: And the way he writes dialogue, I feel like nobody talks like that, and it really really bothers me.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_04: He he writes it in a way that he thinks people talk, and it's so it's such a like upper c upper middle class, like Yeah, but it feels like it was from like the time of like pride and prejudice, like that kind of talk, you know what I mean?
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_01: Like it's just like no one's no one's that formal or no one's that it's like, did you ever watch Dawson's Creek?
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_04: I've seen like a couple of episodes.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they're like 14 or 15 and they speak like they're educated adults in every fucking sentence, and you're like, you don't speak like that, but I do love Dawson's Creek, and I'll defend that with my life.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly that I love Gilmore girls too.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_01: But yeah, no, that exactly it's just in embarrassing, it's a bit cringe.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_04: It is.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_04: It's I just I hate when dialogue is like try to try hard.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can tell that it's a script.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_04: You know it's the same reason I don't like Juno and people love Juno.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_01: I like Juno, I haven't seen it in a while, but I do like it.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_04: I don't like I don't like that that weird dialogue that she uses.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just specifically like average like teenagers or whatever, you're like, no one speaks it.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_01: I would be embarrassed to speak like that, you know what I mean?
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_04: But okay, so yeah, Notting Hill i itself, it's like I've never liked it.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_04: I think it's a very boring movie.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I don't get why it gets so much hype.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_01: I don't because it's it's like so many others.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_04: I think his even like even saying I don't like his movies, I think his other ones are better than Notting Hill.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_04: I think it might be his worst one.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_00: Definitely.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_04: Um Although Love Actually, I don't know if that's still hot.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_04: Love actually is like creepy now, looking back on it.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_04: There's a lot of like really problematic stuff in it.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_01: Problematic as fuck, yeah.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_01: Um even it's but you're having fun, at least it's a bit of a comedy as well.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_01: You're not like bored with the character.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm never bored watching Love actually, whereas like nothing at all, I was bored.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, not a good movie.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_04: And whereas this, and whereas bringing it back to this m manos, I was never bored watching this.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're having fun.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_01: It it keeps you're never like, oh, when is this over?
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_01: Apart from maybe when the the wives are fighting and it's just going on and that's one scene, yeah, but even that's not very long.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_04: It just goes on in terms of like this movie, but like itself it's not a very long scene.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_04: Um it's a and this is just like so wild, you're just constantly like, where is this gonna go?
- 1:14:57unknown: Yeah.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_01: You can't you can't see what's gonna happen at the end.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_01: You don't think Michael is gonna become Torgo at the end.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_01: You know, it's just good times.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_04: Okay, so this has been a lot of fun.
