- 0:05Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the Overland Journal podcast. This is
- 0:08Speaker 1: episode number seventy five. Now this is a special episode
- 0:11Speaker 1: episode because we are wrapping up twenty twenty twenty one,
- 0:15Speaker 1: and this is our first podcast that we're recording in
- 0:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. So we even though Betty White passed away,
- 0:22Speaker 1: we somehow made it past that date, which so sorry
- 0:26Speaker 1: to see Betty White go. Obviously, twenty twenty one kind
- 0:28Speaker 1: of sucked. It did kind of suck, Like, yeah, this
- 0:31Speaker 1: COVID stuff's getting old. It's it's a challenge fortailers. I was,
- 0:36Speaker 1: you know, October, I was feeling really good. I'm like, oh,
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'll be able to start traveling again in twenty twenty two,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and then it happened again. Yeah, I mean I was.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I was able to make it to Italy and then
- 0:48Speaker 1: within weeks I'm gonna crom kind of hit and things
- 0:51Speaker 1: were starting to shut down again. And I mean, we've
- 0:53Speaker 1: both got trips planned that we want to do and
- 0:56Speaker 1: we're hopeful that they happen in twenty twenty two. But
- 0:58Speaker 1: it's just it's just a realization. I mean, we were
- 1:01Speaker 1: just talking about who would really the Overlander of the
- 1:03Speaker 1: Year be, and we were struggling to think of someone
- 1:05Speaker 1: who's really out traveling internationally because it's hard to do.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I mean Dan Grex going around Australia. He found his
- 1:11Speaker 1: way to make it were and get out in New
- 1:13Speaker 1: South Wales for the longest time. That's true. I mean
- 1:15Speaker 1: it's such a challenge, it's it's just an interesting time.
- 1:19Speaker 1: We're going to take a brief break and we will
- 1:21Speaker 1: be right back. This week's episode is supported in part
- 1:25Speaker 1: by Icamper. They make innovative hardshell and soft sided riof
- 1:30Speaker 1: tents that are designed to survive long term overland use.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Their revolutionary X cover won the Overland Journal Editor's Choice Award,
- 1:38Speaker 1: eliminating the bulky PBC cover and also allowing for the
- 1:42Speaker 1: fitment of crossbars for carrying bikes and kayaks. Their Skycamp
- 1:46Speaker 1: Mini is another award winning design that provides a hard
- 1:50Speaker 1: shell tent in the footprint of a much smaller clamshell model.
- 1:53Speaker 1: This is the perfect solution for smaller vehicles or on
- 1:57Speaker 1: vehicles where rack space is dedicated to other systems. I
- 2:00Speaker 1: Camper believes that the best times are those spent traveling,
- 2:04Speaker 1: discovering the world with those you love most. You can
- 2:07Speaker 1: find out more about their quality tents at kamper dot com.
- 2:11Speaker 1: But people are finding a way they're traveling more locally,
- 2:14Speaker 1: which I think is very cool. I mean, you and
- 2:16Speaker 1: I we've done our own trips in the local area,
- 2:19Speaker 1: which has been just super fun. So finding ways you're
- 2:22Speaker 1: going to go in a couple of days, I don't
- 2:25Speaker 1: know where I'm going. I might go to Lower California
- 2:29Speaker 1: known as Baja, or I may do Alta, California, either
- 2:33Speaker 1: know left or right? Yeah, I hit California and I
- 2:35Speaker 1: don't really You'll make a decision when you get there.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Really now. Oh that's good though, that's perfect. Yeah, it's interesting,
- 2:40Speaker 1: Like you know, Baja right now seems seems slammed. Like
- 2:43Speaker 1: I've talked to hundred people that have been down there. Yeah,
- 2:45Speaker 1: it's some of the few options right now. Does that
- 2:48Speaker 1: stop telling people to go to Bay I guess, yeah exactly,
- 2:52Speaker 1: or get responsible, Yeah exactly. But it's it's fun to
- 2:55Speaker 1: think about the fact that we can start, hopefully start
- 2:57Speaker 1: traveling again. And the sailboat thing really work for me
- 3:00Speaker 1: last year. But I still love motorcycles and I still
- 3:04Speaker 1: love trucks, and I hope to be able to get
- 3:06Speaker 1: out and now that I've got kind of my life
- 3:08Speaker 1: to the point. That was Another thing I've been working
- 3:10Speaker 1: on is getting to where I can be more nomadic yep, myself.
- 3:14Speaker 1: So I've got a scout built out on top of
- 3:16Speaker 1: the eight four and I'm finishing up the last few
- 3:19Speaker 1: pieces of that project to get ready to be on
- 3:22Speaker 1: the road. So that's that's fun. More travel is what
- 3:25Speaker 1: I'm really hoping this year is about. Yeah, at least,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I mean I think that that'll be the place that
- 3:30Speaker 1: a lot of people will come to. Is that. For
- 3:33Speaker 1: the last couple of years, it was this idea that
- 3:35Speaker 1: I'm going to grab a bunch of things that will
- 3:37Speaker 1: satisfy the fact that I'm not traveling, and now that
- 3:40Speaker 1: hopefully we'll be able to start traveling again, the things
- 3:42Speaker 1: that I am back off way too many cars. Yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 1: well you needed a hobby. I need a hobby because
- 3:47Speaker 1: you travel ferraris, Yeah, exactly. You needed a way to
- 3:51Speaker 1: spend the time. So and it was fun, you know.
- 3:53Speaker 1: In twenty twenty one, it's I'm not saying I took
- 3:56Speaker 1: a year off from overlanding. In a lot of ways,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I think I did. Yeah, for sure, you know, we
- 4:00Speaker 1: did some adventurous things we got I got married, not
- 4:04Speaker 1: we the collective. We did not get married, if there's
- 4:06Speaker 1: anything wrong with that. But you know, me and Laura
- 4:08Speaker 1: got married. We went on this amazing honeymoon in Switzerland
- 4:11Speaker 1: and Dubai and amazing, amazing Getty and it was really cool.
- 4:15Speaker 1: We got to see new places and we went to this.
- 4:17Speaker 1: We did that the whole Pebble Beach car Week thing,
- 4:19Speaker 1: which was really that was an adventure in and of itself. Man,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I've never felt so poor in my life. I remember
- 4:25Speaker 1: sitting in a cone Egeg booth at the Quail, which
- 4:28Speaker 1: is a an event that happens during car Week, and oh,
- 4:31Speaker 1: what's that. Oh it's a new cone exeg whatever? Whatever?
- 4:34Speaker 1: How much five million? Okay, I'm back. Yeah, I think
- 4:37Speaker 1: I'll take one. You know, like that kind of kind
- 4:39Speaker 1: of crowd. You know, what, do you think there's money
- 4:40Speaker 1: at over the next bo go to Pebble Beach. True,
- 4:43Speaker 1: But that's I think that's also the recognition is that
- 4:45Speaker 1: that five million dollar car at the end of the
- 4:47Speaker 1: day doesn't make you happy, doesn't make you happy, not
- 4:49Speaker 1: even close. The sooner that we figure that out, the
- 4:52Speaker 1: better off we are, I think as humans. So I
- 4:54Speaker 1: think I saw a lot of a lot. I mean,
- 4:56Speaker 1: I think everybody kind of did the same thing, right,
- 4:58Speaker 1: I think that people definitely go out, but I don't know,
- 5:01Speaker 1: it's just it all feels a bit weird. Yeah, it's
- 5:03Speaker 1: still it's still all trying to landing feels a bit weird.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I want to talk about how overlanding feels weird. According
- 5:10Speaker 1: to map, like we've ended up as like this industry
- 5:15Speaker 1: of stuff, true, and I'm kinda kind of over that. Yeah,
- 5:20Speaker 1: you know, like there's so much there's it has the
- 5:24Speaker 1: conversation about travel and doing there's always like this this
- 5:27Speaker 1: ying and yang battle between that the travel and the
- 5:31Speaker 1: travelers and the stuff and the people who just like
- 5:34Speaker 1: to wire it. Yeah, it's like everybody's on on teams
- 5:37Speaker 1: stuff now would like less stuff. Yeah, and maybe so
- 5:40Speaker 1: many widgets and so much like true, there's so many
- 5:44Speaker 1: copycats in the industry. There's so much in fighting. There's
- 5:47Speaker 1: so much just like finger pointing or whatever. Yeah, Like
- 5:50Speaker 1: you know, as we were going through listening, like well,
- 5:52Speaker 1: what innovations have we seen this year, and I'm like,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I've seen a bunch of stuff that's laser cut, C
- 5:57Speaker 1: and C bent, maybe C and c machine because it's
- 6:00Speaker 1: able to be manufactured here, and well, this guy's doing it,
- 6:04Speaker 1: so I'm going to do it too. And then there's like,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I mean, how many Prince U roofracts are in this
- 6:07Speaker 1: industry now, people that have taken a great idea and
- 6:09Speaker 1: then just copied it. Yeah. Yeah, we just kind of
- 6:11Speaker 1: let everybody do their thing. I want to talk about it,
- 6:15Speaker 1: but I think it's going to be really really big
- 6:16Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two. Human waste to campsites, Yeah, exactly,
- 6:20Speaker 1: with so many people going out, you know, like, for example,
- 6:24Speaker 1: we have we have a toilet in the earth Rummer
- 6:26Speaker 1: and I'm seriously considering the Gladiator or whatever we end
- 6:29Speaker 1: up taking with is taking a toilet with us. And
- 6:32Speaker 1: I've mentioned this idea to a lot of people and
- 6:35Speaker 1: I always get like made fun of. But I saw
- 6:37Speaker 1: this happen in Australia when when I was working over
- 6:39Speaker 1: there running a magazine, and you know, it's four wheal
- 6:41Speaker 1: drive has always been popular there, but like Cape York
- 6:44Speaker 1: became really really popular sure for example, and I went
- 6:47Speaker 1: into I did Cape York twenty fourteen No. Twenty and
- 6:51Speaker 1: thirteen thirteen or fourteen, and I did it two years later,
- 6:54Speaker 1: the amount of just like human waste that was at
- 6:56Speaker 1: the campsites. All of a sudden, there's like flies everywhere,
- 7:00Speaker 1: there's toilet paper everywhere, and as it's like the you
- 7:03Speaker 1: know we talk about tread lightly, but so many campsites
- 7:05Speaker 1: are getting wrecked. I mean there's so many campsites that
- 7:07Speaker 1: were like kind of hidden secrets in northern Arizona. Sure
- 7:10Speaker 1: that I just like I can't go to anymore because
- 7:13Speaker 1: you're like tripping over human waste. Yeah, And I wonder
- 7:17Speaker 1: if ethically, moving forward, we need to ask the question
- 7:20Speaker 1: of like do we need to be packing out? Do
- 7:22Speaker 1: we need to be probably need to start taking our
- 7:25Speaker 1: own waist out. I agree, And it's again, this is
- 7:29Speaker 1: going to be something that's going to be personal for everyone.
- 7:32Speaker 1: The one thing I don't want to do is shame
- 7:34Speaker 1: someone else for the decision that they make. But the
- 7:37Speaker 1: decision that I made was to get a Nature's head toilet,
- 7:40Speaker 1: which is a composting toilet, and I take it with
- 7:42Speaker 1: me when I'm camping, and we have other solutions that
- 7:45Speaker 1: we can use when we're not camping. That way, it's
- 7:47Speaker 1: just looking at the campsite that you're visiting and is
- 7:50Speaker 1: there a lot of impact going on around there. Maybe
- 7:53Speaker 1: if you don't have a toilet with you, you make
- 7:55Speaker 1: a compromise and you say, all right, I'm to spend
- 7:57Speaker 1: five minutes picking up trash. Yeah, we just do something,
- 8:00Speaker 1: do something, do something, and take a little bit of
- 8:02Speaker 1: personal responsibility of because what I'm afraid of is that
- 8:06Speaker 1: future generations, I mean, you and I are going to
- 8:08Speaker 1: be able to enjoy this stuff for the foreseeable future.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But like, how does someone's kid get a chance to
- 8:12Speaker 1: see the same things that you and I see if
- 8:15Speaker 1: today we don't take some responsibility for that. It's just
- 8:18Speaker 1: I think it's a topic that people need to maybe
- 8:20Speaker 1: start thinking about in twenty twenty two. Yeah. Maybe, and
- 8:24Speaker 1: maybe those that are listening, if you've got ideas, or
- 8:26Speaker 1: you found things that are working, or there's some good
- 8:28Speaker 1: resources out there that you're finding. On again, there is
- 8:32Speaker 1: tread Lightley and there is leave no Trace. But if
- 8:34Speaker 1: there are some additional resources that we can talk about
- 8:37Speaker 1: on this podcast, let us know and we'll give information
- 8:39Speaker 1: at the Yeah, we'll give information at the end of
- 8:41Speaker 1: the podcast about how to reach out. But I agree, Matt,
- 8:44Speaker 1: it is I mean, moabs shut down camping yeah, they
- 8:47Speaker 1: had to because they had three million people camping. They
- 8:51Speaker 1: think they estimated three million people that in Sedona too,
- 8:54Speaker 1: same thing, and you know, like we have campsites in
- 8:56Speaker 1: Sedona that we used to go to that we just
- 8:58Speaker 1: like like put their shut down. I don't know if
- 9:00Speaker 1: it's here's a hot topic in defense of the overlanders.
- 9:03Speaker 1: The van life crowd is pretty bad with this because
- 9:06Speaker 1: they're sitting there for like a long time. Gotcha. I've
- 9:10Speaker 1: definitely been to some campsites where I see people burning trash.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I see people like just doing some interesting things because
- 9:19Speaker 1: what do you do with it? You know, like all
- 9:21Speaker 1: of a sudden like squillions, Yeah, there's quillions of people
- 9:25Speaker 1: going out into these places that have no services. A
- 9:28Speaker 1: lot of these people are going out for the first time.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Like how many urban people during this saw on Instagram
- 9:33Speaker 1: ooh Van, I'm going to get into that And they hadn't, respectfully,
- 9:37Speaker 1: they just didn't. They didn't know, they weren't told. And
- 9:40Speaker 1: there's a lot of like anything that's like easily accessible
- 9:43Speaker 1: right now is pretty torn up. And we've seen that
- 9:46Speaker 1: down in just a lot of places. So well, maybe
- 9:48Speaker 1: that's part of what we do in twenty twenty two,
- 9:50Speaker 1: is we realize that this thing is growing very quickly,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and those of us who have been doing it a
- 9:55Speaker 1: long time, maybe we can again. I think it's most
- 9:57Speaker 1: important to look inward instead of telling other people what
- 10:00Speaker 1: they what they're doing right or doing I's love gallion
- 10:02Speaker 1: at people. Yeah, totally, and sometimes that's necessary if you're
- 10:08Speaker 1: on the trail and someone's literally driving off trail, we
- 10:11Speaker 1: do have a responsibility to say, hey, I'm also going
- 10:13Speaker 1: to start shaming companies who are driving off trail and
- 10:16Speaker 1: being general dickheads in twenty twenty two, Okay, I see
- 10:20Speaker 1: so many companies, major companies, car companies, sure that are
- 10:24Speaker 1: setting this precedent of you're not in a trophy truck. Yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 1: you're in like a forward ranger with like four inches
- 10:31Speaker 1: of suspension travel on two hundred doors power. I know
- 10:34Speaker 1: that marketing is a big thing, but same with camping
- 10:36Speaker 1: and same with the trails. We're privileged to have access
- 10:39Speaker 1: to this stuff. Sure we have to start all doing
- 10:41Speaker 1: a better job. Yeah, such a crappy part of the
- 10:44Speaker 1: podcast that we just went through, told you, but we've
- 10:49Speaker 1: got some good news too. Half a million, yeah, half
- 10:51Speaker 1: a million downloads of the podcast which is really exciting.
- 10:54Speaker 1: We're so grateful for you all for listening. We would
- 10:57Speaker 1: not have a podcast without all of you that take
- 10:59Speaker 1: the time to listen to Matt and I ramble. We
- 11:02Speaker 1: have also been so fortunate to have the quality of
- 11:06Speaker 1: guests that we have had on this podcast, and we're
- 11:09Speaker 1: so grateful for all of the people that have taken
- 11:12Speaker 1: the time to participate in the podcast and share their
- 11:15Speaker 1: stories of their life and being so open about their
- 11:18Speaker 1: experiences and their advice to all of us. I've learned
- 11:21Speaker 1: so much myself as we've interviewed these folks, and of
- 11:24Speaker 1: course huge thanks to Paula Burr, our producer of the podcast.
- 11:28Speaker 1: She works tirelessly to put all of this stuff together
- 11:32Speaker 1: so that way we can continue to do what we're doing.
- 11:35Speaker 1: We added a fourth podcast each month, so we've got
- 11:37Speaker 1: four a month now and this is podcast number seventy five,
- 11:40Speaker 1: So they're really rolling the podcast. They're really rolling along.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And one of the things that's kind of fun to
- 11:46Speaker 1: look at is the top five podcasts of the last year.
- 11:49Speaker 1: So The Principles of Overlanding Vehicle Recovery, which Part one
- 11:52Speaker 1: and Part two are one of our most popular podcasts overall.
- 11:56Speaker 1: And that was when we do with Jim West. Oh ye,
- 11:58Speaker 1: Jim awesome and he is awesome, and he was such
- 12:00Speaker 1: a great resource around that, and I think that that
- 12:03Speaker 1: turned out really fun. So take a listen to Vehicle
- 12:05Speaker 1: Recovery Part one and two. And then after that was
- 12:08Speaker 1: the interview with Richard Giardano, which I thought was really
- 12:11Speaker 1: fun because he's got such a great outlook on travel.
- 12:14Speaker 1: He travels in this nineteen nineties Toyota pick up. He's
- 12:18Speaker 1: just got the right attitude and they're very well traveled
- 12:21Speaker 1: and they've got I mean, they're Canadians, they're super nice.
- 12:24Speaker 1: So yeah, like why are Canadians generally just nicer? Yeah,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, maybe it's the bad weather.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe they watch less television. They're just
- 12:33Speaker 1: seldom mean Canadians. Yeah, I'm not. I've not I can't
- 12:36Speaker 1: think of one. And then after that was the chat
- 12:39Speaker 1: we did around tires and wheels, and then after that,
- 12:42Speaker 1: after that was the best overlanding gear of twenty twenty,
- 12:45Speaker 1: which we're going to get into a little bit today
- 12:46Speaker 1: on around twenty twenty one, and then number five was
- 12:50Speaker 1: Ashley Giardano. So the Giardano's like swept the interview side
- 12:54Speaker 1: of things. Well, they're just so sweet. Yeah, totally, It's
- 12:56Speaker 1: like I just want to hug them. Yeah, I already
- 12:59Speaker 1: missed them. Are they in like Saudi Arabia right now?
- 13:01Speaker 1: They are, Yeah, they're in Saudi Arabia and that they
- 13:04Speaker 1: were planning on going to Oman, but they're there for
- 13:06Speaker 1: the Dakar and they're traveling around. They're making it work,
- 13:09Speaker 1: they're making sure they get out there themselves. And Ashley
- 13:12Speaker 1: has become an integrated part of our team and she
- 13:15Speaker 1: works on Overland Journal a lot, and Richard's been really
- 13:18Speaker 1: helpful with a bunch of new projects. So we're just
- 13:20Speaker 1: super lucky to have them have them around as part
- 13:23Speaker 1: of the team. That kind of brings us to like
- 13:25Speaker 1: what you're in. My favorite episodes for the year was
- 13:29Speaker 1: for me. For me, it was really fun to see
- 13:32Speaker 1: the Luisa Bell podcast go live, which I had nothing
- 13:36Speaker 1: to do with. Ashley interviewed Luisa. I had never heard it,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I didn't participate in the production. So I'm in my
- 13:43Speaker 1: truck and I'm driving along and a new episode pops
- 13:46Speaker 1: up and I got to listen to it like a
- 13:48Speaker 1: fly on the wall, like a regular listener. And I was.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I found myself laughing and they were both so awesome,
- 13:54Speaker 1: and so that was my That was my most fun
- 13:56Speaker 1: moment listening to which I don't listen to most of
- 13:59Speaker 1: the episodes because I was I can't listen to I
- 14:01Speaker 1: was there. I would be like, man, you sound like
- 14:03Speaker 1: such a d bag? Why did you say that? Like?
- 14:07Speaker 1: But but then I would lose that certain zest for
- 14:09Speaker 1: life to try to control myself. I don't control yourself
- 14:12Speaker 1: too much. Matt, there is a yin and the yang here.
- 14:14Speaker 1: We got to keep it going. Yeah, was there one
- 14:15Speaker 1: that you had a lot of fun with? And I
- 14:17Speaker 1: don't know if it will come out just before or
- 14:19Speaker 1: just after this podcast, but interviewing Dave Hareton from AEV
- 14:24Speaker 1: was really cool. Is awesome. The products he's designed since
- 14:26Speaker 1: I've literally been a little kid have been something that
- 14:29Speaker 1: I've looked up to. The coolest podcast from here when
- 14:31Speaker 1: I learned something. Yeah, rather than just espousing my views
- 14:36Speaker 1: on the world, it's nice to and he was dropp
- 14:38Speaker 1: he was dropping all kinds of great insights. So that
- 14:42Speaker 1: was really cool. Yeah. Dave Hereton, the CEO of a EV,
- 14:46Speaker 1: He's coming up, he's the dude. Yeah, he's the man.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna I need to like look through because there's
- 14:50Speaker 1: seventy five now. I know it's crazy. We're gonna figure
- 14:52Speaker 1: out how to go on podcasts. Rebell Rally one was fun.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I was really fun. That was fun, and uh, you know,
- 14:59Speaker 1: interviewing Brian Indoor was was interesting. Oh he was great
- 15:02Speaker 1: and his did really well too. His was like, oh
- 15:04Speaker 1: you know what, you know what my favorite one is
- 15:06Speaker 1: was the Grand Touring one because I'm just like, I'm
- 15:09Speaker 1: so interested in like these like kooky kind of ideas,
- 15:11Speaker 1: Like we've both been doing the four wheel drive thing
- 15:13Speaker 1: for so long. Sure, Like I don't know that I
- 15:16Speaker 1: like I want to do something crazy, Like I still
- 15:17Speaker 1: want to get a Bentley Continal GT and like drive
- 15:20Speaker 1: it around the world like perfect, like drive it through Russia.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I mean there's so many of those things there, Like
- 15:26Speaker 1: you get a service service, you have club meetups, have
- 15:29Speaker 1: to do a battery system, yeah, air suspension, Yeah, it
- 15:33Speaker 1: would be really nice. Like yeah, sure, so what do
- 15:35Speaker 1: you do this week around the world? What do you
- 15:37Speaker 1: do next week home? I wonder how quickly that's been done.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I don't know the answer to that one. Quickly. Someone's
- 15:44Speaker 1: actually driven around the world, not that I want to rush,
- 15:46Speaker 1: but yeah, all right, so then the I guess the
- 15:50Speaker 1: next spot. We launched onto YouTube, so we have live
- 15:53Speaker 1: podcasts now where you can see our smiling faces, all
- 15:56Speaker 1: of our just gesticulations with our hands and everything else
- 16:00Speaker 1: like that as we're talking. So that's been a fun
- 16:03Speaker 1: update as well. But now let's kind of get into
- 16:06Speaker 1: the gear of twenty twenty one, which do this the
- 16:09Speaker 1: vehicles and the equipment, And I think it's going to
- 16:12Speaker 1: be a little bit different one for us because again
- 16:14Speaker 1: we're trying to be more mindful of the equipment in general.
- 16:18Speaker 1: But there's still been a lot of innovation that have happened,
- 16:20Speaker 1: mostly around the vehicle side of things. As Matt says,
- 16:23Speaker 1: we're in the swan song of the internal combustion engine,
- 16:25Speaker 1: so we're seeing these vehicles that are like nothing we've
- 16:28Speaker 1: seen before. But they're going to be the last of
- 16:30Speaker 1: their type, probably because there's been company after company that
- 16:34Speaker 1: have come out and said, look, we're going to be
- 16:36Speaker 1: all electric by twenty thirty, or we're going to be
- 16:38Speaker 1: all electric by twenty twenty five some of them. Toyota
- 16:41Speaker 1: just announced that they're electrifying, which they were a big
- 16:44Speaker 1: hold out. And that's other interesting news. Toyota just eclipsed
- 16:48Speaker 1: GM for twenty twenty one as the most volumeless car
- 16:52Speaker 1: resale or car manufacturer in the United States, So they
- 16:56Speaker 1: sold more cars in the US than GM by a
- 16:59Speaker 1: small mare. So pretty pretty big deal that that has happened.
- 17:02Speaker 1: But SUVs of the year, I mean, the Bronco comes out,
- 17:06Speaker 1: we're getting we're starting to see more and more details
- 17:08Speaker 1: around the globe. Yeah, I mean, Renadier's not a basil.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Things are always a little bit ambigious, like, well, what
- 17:12Speaker 1: was the best in twenty twenty one, and then because
- 17:15Speaker 1: some car company or some car magazines or outlets or
- 17:17Speaker 1: whateveryone want to call yourselves, they'll be like, it has
- 17:20Speaker 1: to have been delivered. You had to be able to
- 17:22Speaker 1: buy it in twenty twenty one. And I think for
- 17:24Speaker 1: SUVs that you could buy in twenty twenty one. Bronco, Yeah,
- 17:28Speaker 1: for sure. The three nine two is an interesting like
- 17:30Speaker 1: I would buy a three nine two over a Bronco.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But why, I mean that's just like it's such an interest.
- 17:36Speaker 1: They're both so great because the Bronco has the interior
- 17:40Speaker 1: of like, honestly, I liked the interior of the Ford
- 17:43Speaker 1: Maverick within nineteen thousand dollars starting point. Yeah, more than
- 17:46Speaker 1: I like the interior the Bronco that was sent to
- 17:48Speaker 1: us at a sixty three thousand dollars sticker, although we
- 17:53Speaker 1: did experience that same kind of feathering of the plastic
- 17:57Speaker 1: that we had with the Bronco and the Maverick, and
- 17:59Speaker 1: I realized it was actually just the button of my
- 18:02Speaker 1: jacket from having my arm there, So it wasn't even
- 18:05Speaker 1: trying to be the interior like it does because by
- 18:09Speaker 1: now they should have durable interiors, because the interior of
- 18:12Speaker 1: the F one fifty and the super Duty is top notch.
- 18:16Speaker 1: It's very durable, it's very well made. Yeah, and you
- 18:19Speaker 1: know that the super Duty isn't that much more of
- 18:22Speaker 1: an expensive vehicle than the Bronco. Yeah, but you're just
- 18:25Speaker 1: not getting like for like I mean, a top shelf
- 18:28Speaker 1: Bronco is nearly the same price as a top shelf Raptor.
- 18:31Speaker 1: You're not getting the same value on the on the
- 18:33Speaker 1: interior components. Yeah. Sure, it a smaller engine, smaller everything.
- 18:37Speaker 1: But the thing about the Bronco that really impressed me
- 18:42Speaker 1: was the technology that they brought to bear the lockers
- 18:45Speaker 1: work better than anything on the market because they instantly
- 18:48Speaker 1: turn on and off even when you have drive line
- 18:50Speaker 1: wind up and bind. The suave bar disconnect is super cool,
- 18:53Speaker 1: super cool, you could bess as Fantasticah, it's really good
- 18:56Speaker 1: like whatever that the first refresh of the Bronco is
- 19:00Speaker 1: is going to be fantastic. You know, it could not
- 19:02Speaker 1: have been easy for Ford to really bring this vehicle
- 19:05Speaker 1: to market during the pandemic totally. This industry has, the
- 19:09Speaker 1: auto industry, the overland industry, anything automotive aftermarket has been
- 19:13Speaker 1: hit really really hard by supply chains. And I think,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I think you know, that's why when we get into
- 19:18Speaker 1: the later things, we haven't seen a huge amount of innovation,
- 19:21Speaker 1: you know, because half of the companies are too busy
- 19:23Speaker 1: just copying what these small mom and pop businesses are doing.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And then the other half are just struggling to survive,
- 19:29Speaker 1: so they just keep doing, you know what they're doing.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I just I commend Forward for bringing the Bronco back.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I'm really excited to see what it there's always been.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Here's why because I'm a Jeep guy. Because now now
- 19:39Speaker 1: there's there's a lighter under Jeep's ass, and now all
- 19:43Speaker 1: the guys we know at at Jeep or Stilanthus that's
- 19:46Speaker 1: the stupidest name. Now they have, they have a reason
- 19:50Speaker 1: to go to the accountant that actually runs them and
- 19:53Speaker 1: say I want to do this. And that's how things
- 19:55Speaker 1: like the three ninety two happen totally. You know, I mean,
- 19:58Speaker 1: you think of wranglers today. You can get a you
- 20:01Speaker 1: want a diesel wrangler, you got it. Sure, you want
- 20:03Speaker 1: a manual transmission wrangler, you got it. You want to
- 20:06Speaker 1: V eight HEMI wrangler, you got it. Yep. You want
- 20:08Speaker 1: a wrangler with a pickup truck on the back. You
- 20:10Speaker 1: had a gladiator. Well, and you know there's been all
- 20:12Speaker 1: these reports with this, which is so cool, so cool.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Have you heard about the twin turbo six No? Yeah,
- 20:18Speaker 1: So they just went into production and Setilla Mexico on
- 20:22Speaker 1: the next generation engine that will kind of replace the
- 20:26Speaker 1: five to seven, and it's supposed to go in the Gladiator,
- 20:28Speaker 1: it's supposed to go in the fifteen hundred. It's going
- 20:30Speaker 1: to a variety of things probably, but it's a straighter
- 20:33Speaker 1: twin turbo. It's basically the four liter turbo that they
- 20:36Speaker 1: have right now, which is itself an Alpha Romeo sourced
- 20:39Speaker 1: engine and then they've added two cylinders. Wow, from what
- 20:43Speaker 1: I understand, and that's going to be an interesting one.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I love those small displacement turbos at fort Put. Yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 1: they rip, they ripped. They're super cool. I mean, you know,
- 20:54Speaker 1: turbo charging is great. Cars are just great right now.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Really they really have got That's the only thing I
- 20:59Speaker 1: can and it pick on the Bronco is like the
- 21:01Speaker 1: top of the interior. That's the top and the interior
- 21:04Speaker 1: something there's going to come together. One in Toya Tuck
- 21:06Speaker 1: that like the snow like like like a blizzard, which
- 21:09Speaker 1: I don't know if you can really blame the Bronco
- 21:11Speaker 1: for that, like and did have a soft top yea, yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 1: I mean I don't know why you'd live in Tuck
- 21:17Speaker 1: and buy a soft top Wrangler or maybe it's somebody
- 21:19Speaker 1: that traveled up there who knows. That's amazing. Well good
- 21:23Speaker 1: for him. Yeah, talking about being optimistic. Yeah, he's like,
- 21:27Speaker 1: bring on the global warming. I've got my soft top.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Bronco in tough, but it's Ford. They have some of
- 21:31Speaker 1: the best engineers in the world. They're gonn They're gonna
- 21:33Speaker 1: figure it. Figure they'll totally figure that out and Ford
- 21:35Speaker 1: has done some fun things. I mean, we're gonna move
- 21:37Speaker 1: on to trucks next. But like the Maverick is like
- 21:40Speaker 1: it is, it is summed up as the most charming
- 21:43Speaker 1: little truck I've ever driven. I mean it reminds me
- 21:46Speaker 1: of like you said it best. I think a Chevy
- 21:49Speaker 1: S ten. Yeah, like when they had those bare bones
- 21:52Speaker 1: super Sport trucks. Yep, that's my truck of the year
- 21:55Speaker 1: for this year. That that I drove. I drove, I
- 21:57Speaker 1: guess I technically drove it, and you drove a twenty too,
- 22:00Speaker 1: Oh you did, okay, But it was available. We looked
- 22:02Speaker 1: at it in twenty twenty. I looked at it in
- 22:04Speaker 1: twenty twenty one Saturday. Yeah, for sure. That little thing
- 22:07Speaker 1: was so cool. It was so fun. I'm driving this
- 22:10Speaker 1: little night. It was what is twenty four thousand dollars
- 22:12Speaker 1: sticker correct. I had Falk and wild Peak alterrain tires
- 22:16Speaker 1: on FX four package front skid plate. It was two
- 22:18Speaker 1: hundred and fifty horse power. It was plenty fast. There
- 22:21Speaker 1: was plenty comfortable. Yeah, very right, glode height on the bed.
- 22:25Speaker 1: If you actually use a truck, and I'm not proclaiming
- 22:27Speaker 1: to be somebody who actually uses a truck, but I
- 22:30Speaker 1: like them. I like the idea drive a lot of them.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I drive a lot of them. And you know this
- 22:34Speaker 1: means that when I go to the boutique garden store,
- 22:36Speaker 1: I only have to lift the bag of mulch thirty inches,
- 22:39Speaker 1: not like there you go seventy eight inches into a
- 22:41Speaker 1: super duty bed because they've gotten over your head. I
- 22:46Speaker 1: think that it took a bit of Cajon's for Ford
- 22:48Speaker 1: to launch that. Like you can sit back and be
- 22:50Speaker 1: like why because and they're selling a ton of them
- 22:53Speaker 1: you can buy Laura, And I was like, we should
- 22:55Speaker 1: buy one, because then I can we have this really
- 22:58Speaker 1: unfair thing in our relationship where she won't drive a
- 23:01Speaker 1: pickup truck, but she says I have to drive a
- 23:03Speaker 1: pickup truck. Got it. I'm not saying that I dislike
- 23:06Speaker 1: pickup trucks, but like I'd probably rather drive a wagon.
- 23:09Speaker 1: They just make a little bit more sense than better
- 23:11Speaker 1: dock storage, better better dog story for the dog. Like
- 23:14Speaker 1: you could just like buy one. It might be the
- 23:15Speaker 1: perfect car for Laura because it's like a Subaru. It's
- 23:18Speaker 1: got and it's a better ill will drive system than
- 23:20Speaker 1: the super UoS I've tested, and it has a little
- 23:22Speaker 1: pickup truck bad on the back, but you'd have to
- 23:24Speaker 1: run that by my dog. Gotcha, He's got a lot
- 23:26Speaker 1: more room in the super Oh, I got you. Okay,
- 23:29Speaker 1: that's true, Harstruck. I was. We've done some great testing
- 23:33Speaker 1: with it and we're it's clear that it is not
- 23:36Speaker 1: a fool. It is not intended to be a recreational
- 23:38Speaker 1: forward drive vehicle. So I just want to preface that, like,
- 23:41Speaker 1: I'm not making claims of extreme capability when compared to
- 23:45Speaker 1: like a Tremor or a TRD put Tacoma. It's got
- 23:49Speaker 1: limited ground clearance, it doesn't have a lot of underbody protection.
- 23:52Speaker 1: But for someone who would look at a Subaru or
- 23:55Speaker 1: they want they want to pick up, but they also
- 23:57Speaker 1: wanted to drive really well and get great gas. Lologic
- 23:59Speaker 1: got thirty miles a gallon for me when I drove
- 24:01Speaker 1: it down to Phoenix. So it it's really, I think
- 24:04Speaker 1: going to be a great solution for a bunch of people,
- 24:06Speaker 1: and it is not bad off road. It is. It
- 24:08Speaker 1: has more payload than it's a Coma. It does fifteenoad
- 24:11Speaker 1: than a Raptor. It has more payload than a Gladiator Rubicon.
- 24:15Speaker 1: It has more payload than a t Rex, nearly the
- 24:17Speaker 1: same payload as a power wagon. It's within seventy six
- 24:20Speaker 1: pounds of the power wine. It's interesting. Yeah, totally, it'll
- 24:22Speaker 1: tow four thousand pounds. Make sure that those are that
- 24:25Speaker 1: are considering buying one, make sure you get the Max
- 24:27Speaker 1: Toe package because it gets you lower axle gearing. And
- 24:30Speaker 1: that's the one challenge off road is there's no low range,
- 24:33Speaker 1: so and in reverse it's like half of the reduction
- 24:37Speaker 1: of the first gear. So if you get into something
- 24:39Speaker 1: and you got to reverse out of it, you may
- 24:41Speaker 1: not have enough gearing. So get the Max Toe package.
- 24:43Speaker 1: But it is it is a super charming little truck.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I dug it. I just imagine putting like you know,
- 24:48Speaker 1: one of those ton of covers. Yeah, and then like
- 24:50Speaker 1: a like a like a folding roof tent on it
- 24:53Speaker 1: totally like driving south. Yeah, it's durable and it has
- 24:56Speaker 1: it has everything you need to just be durable on
- 24:58Speaker 1: store stuff and no question and comfortable, no question. And
- 25:01Speaker 1: it starts at nineteen nine hundred and ninety dollars or something. Yeah,
- 25:05Speaker 1: it's just under twenty grand. If you get a tool
- 25:07Speaker 1: drive hybrid which gets forty something miles of the gallon
- 25:10Speaker 1: in the city. Yeah, so I mean, yeah, like I
- 25:12Speaker 1: think they're going to be super option on full sized trucks.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Is ten thousand dollars. Now, oh, it's half the price
- 25:17Speaker 1: of a brand new I'm saying that is I mean
- 25:19Speaker 1: it goes up like the high output commings is twelve something,
- 25:23Speaker 1: you know. So like here's this it's expensive. That's half
- 25:26Speaker 1: the price of a decently well equipped car that we drove. Yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 1: it's it's a really fun vehicle for those that are
- 25:32Speaker 1: are looking for gett into the hiking trail, something that
- 25:36Speaker 1: kind of does it all and gets good gasmologin is
- 25:38Speaker 1: really affordable. Yeah. Yeah, to check out the Maverick I was.
- 25:42Speaker 1: It really impressed me. The Tremor. We went into super
- 25:45Speaker 1: details around trucks for the Truck of the Year podcast
- 25:48Speaker 1: that we did a few episodes ago, So we'll refer
- 25:51Speaker 1: everybody to that the Tremor is really good. The Tremor
- 25:54Speaker 1: for overlanding, because that came out that package was first
- 25:57Speaker 1: made available in twenty twenty one. Yeah, I actually had
- 26:00Speaker 1: market it's pretty cool. Oh yeah, super capable and the
- 26:03Speaker 1: fact that you can get a diesel so you kind
- 26:05Speaker 1: of end up with almost a power wagon capability. The
- 26:07Speaker 1: power wagon is more capable, There's no question about its difference. Yeah,
- 26:12Speaker 1: mostly the softness of the springs, a lot more articulation
- 26:16Speaker 1: front end, the coil sprung rear end, disconnectable sway bar,
- 26:19Speaker 1: front locking differential, not a front limited mechanical limited slip.
- 26:23Speaker 1: But for overlanding purposes, carrying a heavy load, putting a
- 26:27Speaker 1: camper on the back, and going into remote technical areas,
- 26:30Speaker 1: I think that the Tremor's definitely a win. I've been
- 26:33Speaker 1: driving this fifteen hundred GMC at four and I am
- 26:37Speaker 1: absolutely in love with the drive train truck. If you're
- 26:39Speaker 1: interested in a half ton truck, make sure you at
- 26:41Speaker 1: least drive the Diesel three Leader, the turbo Diesel three
- 26:45Speaker 1: Leader GMC or Chevy variant. The motor is magic. It's
- 26:49Speaker 1: gets better gas moldge than any car I've ever owned.
- 26:51Speaker 1: What are you getting consistent like? Even with the campports
- 26:54Speaker 1: of fourteen yeah, yeah, with the camper on the top,
- 26:57Speaker 1: I can still get nineteen miles of the gallon. That's
- 26:59Speaker 1: really good, really good. And if the camper's off of
- 27:01Speaker 1: it and I keep my foot out of it, it'll
- 27:03Speaker 1: get mid to high twenties and people, of course have
- 27:06Speaker 1: hyper modeled them much more than that. So I don't
- 27:09Speaker 1: get good gas manage in my pickup truck. Yeah, exactly. Well,
- 27:13Speaker 1: let's talk about your truck. Speaking of truck, your X. Yeah,
- 27:16Speaker 1: it's kind of your truck of the year. I guess
- 27:18Speaker 1: I just said the Maverick. I mean, like the Mavericks,
- 27:20Speaker 1: like the realistic. Okay, I'm gonna allow. I'm making my
- 27:23Speaker 1: own rules. Okay, Okay, so my like realistic cool truck
- 27:27Speaker 1: of twenty twenty Ford Maverick, awesome truck of twenty I
- 27:31Speaker 1: said twenty twenty, twenty twenty one escape me said, yeah, whatever,
- 27:36Speaker 1: twenty twenty one. Coolest truck that came out in twenty
- 27:38Speaker 1: twenty one. Twenty twenty one model year deliveries didn't really
- 27:42Speaker 1: start until like December twenty twenty. January twenty twenty one
- 27:45Speaker 1: is the ram TRX. That truck We beat the crap
- 27:48Speaker 1: out of it on the Rebel rally, Like Chris Walker
- 27:51Speaker 1: was driving and I lent it to him for a
- 27:54Speaker 1: media support vehicle for the event, and he's being like really,
- 27:58Speaker 1: and he's a professional off road driver, super great dude.
- 28:01Speaker 1: And then like we get summerre excited, be in the
- 28:02Speaker 1: earth Rummer. Then we're in like Dumont Dunes and he's
- 28:05Speaker 1: like he's like being very respectful, and this here comes Matt,
- 28:09Speaker 1: like you know, highlighting. Like, Yeah, it's just it hasn't
- 28:14Speaker 1: had a single check engine light. It hasn't had anything
- 28:16Speaker 1: go wrong with it in a lot of off road miles.
- 28:20Speaker 1: It's incredibly comfortable inside. It's quiet inside, it's well made.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I just like the breadth of capability is something else. Yeah,
- 28:27Speaker 1: Like it's isn't it for four seconds zero to sixty?
- 28:30Speaker 1: You know it's it's something. It's something around that. Yeah,
- 28:34Speaker 1: But I think Motor Trend did it in like three nine. Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 1: All I know is that it moves. I launch it
- 28:40Speaker 1: regularly in the parking and our parking lot, and that's
- 28:45Speaker 1: why I think I like that. I mean the truck
- 28:47Speaker 1: use it. Yeah, the number of times I've seen you
- 28:50Speaker 1: smiling from ear to ear in that truck or giddy
- 28:54Speaker 1: in some variant because of driving it. I mean that
- 28:56Speaker 1: that and of itself is a great reason to buy
- 28:59Speaker 1: a car. It's it's really fun, it's really well made.
- 29:02Speaker 1: You said it's the best grand touring vehicle you've ever owned. Easy,
- 29:05Speaker 1: Like if I'm going to drive across the country tomorrow.
- 29:08Speaker 1: That's that's that is the That is one of the
- 29:11Speaker 1: best cars that you could take, honestly, like the Raptors
- 29:14Speaker 1: also in that category. The Raptor gets a lot better
- 29:16Speaker 1: gas mileage and has a better fuel range. But there's
- 29:20Speaker 1: something about seven hundred of the horses that is preduring
- 29:23Speaker 1: something with seven hundred horsepower and then it's being swaddled
- 29:26Speaker 1: in alcantara and carbon fiber, you know. So yeah, that's
- 29:31Speaker 1: that's my truck of the year. I mean, just just
- 29:33Speaker 1: hats off to those guys for just the only thing
- 29:36Speaker 1: that I would change is on the center console they
- 29:38Speaker 1: put this plate that has like your vent on it
- 29:41Speaker 1: and the horse power and whatever. So what that means
- 29:44Speaker 1: is in the summer it brands you like like I
- 29:47Speaker 1: probably have a CRX to two somewhere on my forearm,
- 29:51Speaker 1: and then in the winter it freezes you. Yeah, it's
- 29:55Speaker 1: just sadistic. I hate it. That's my complaint. You're one complaint.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I got one complaint. Really good truck, Yeah, it's cool.
- 30:03Speaker 1: It looks great too. Motorcycles, Yeah, I think I can
- 30:07Speaker 1: rode more new motorcycles this year. I rode a lot
- 30:09Speaker 1: of new motorcycles this year, everything from the Dakati to
- 30:13Speaker 1: the Aprilia tore Egg, and I would say that it's
- 30:16Speaker 1: it's impossible to pin it down to one for me,
- 30:19Speaker 1: because what has happened that is worth noting is the
- 30:23Speaker 1: mid range for the mid sized adventure bikes are better
- 30:26Speaker 1: than they've ever been before. So the complaint with the
- 30:29Speaker 1: big adventure bikes has always been that they are so
- 30:31Speaker 1: heavy and cumbersome, and but you bought them because they
- 30:34Speaker 1: had the horsepower or they had the electronics that made
- 30:37Speaker 1: it comfortable to cruise, whereas now you can get a
- 30:41Speaker 1: husk Varna seven one long range so and it's got
- 30:45Speaker 1: three hundred miles a range, and it's got a great
- 30:48Speaker 1: off road suspension, it's relatively comfortable to ride. It's the
- 30:51Speaker 1: more off road, you know, biased one you can you
- 30:53Speaker 1: can get the seven ninety or the eight ninety KTM,
- 30:57Speaker 1: which are both they both rip off and they're much
- 31:01Speaker 1: more streetable now. They have a lot, they have tracks control,
- 31:04Speaker 1: and they have other things that make motorcycling safer and
- 31:08Speaker 1: actually more effective. The one that I think is really
- 31:11Speaker 1: impressive too, is like the Norton seven oh one looks
- 31:14Speaker 1: great it's based on the KTM looks looks super cool,
- 31:17Speaker 1: like kind of retro. That's another one that's really great.
- 31:20Speaker 1: The Yamaha seven hundred and ten Array Like, that's another
- 31:25Speaker 1: like midway bike. But the one that I rode that
- 31:27Speaker 1: I kind of personally enjoyed the most was the Apriliatore
- 31:30Speaker 1: Egg and that was because it does have cruise control,
- 31:34Speaker 1: it's got a much more comfortable seat, it's it's also
- 31:37Speaker 1: like really fun to ride fast on the road, which
- 31:41Speaker 1: a lot of travel ends up like on twisty roads
- 31:44Speaker 1: in Colombia. And the fact that you can like drag
- 31:46Speaker 1: aknee if you dare. It's it's really great. So I
- 31:49Speaker 1: really like the bike because it's twelve thousand bucks to
- 31:51Speaker 1: get an Italian made adventure motorcycle. That is pretty fun.
- 31:55Speaker 1: So I feel like, and maybe this is just the
- 31:57Speaker 1: perspective of getting slightly older and not incredibly young, but
- 32:01Speaker 1: motorcycles just seem to they've stayed the same price. Yeah,
- 32:05Speaker 1: they haven't really fluctuated in price that much, and as
- 32:09Speaker 1: cars continue to just get more and more and more
- 32:12Speaker 1: and more expensive, there's just this interesting value of some
- 32:16Speaker 1: of these, you know, very premium motorcycles totally. No, that's
- 32:20Speaker 1: such a great point. You could for twenty five thousand
- 32:23Speaker 1: dollars you can get the best of the best BMWGS
- 32:26Speaker 1: adventure or maybe twenty eight dollars. They've been the same
- 32:29Speaker 1: price for like they have been fairly year, they've been
- 32:31Speaker 1: fairly close. And maybe that's a factor of there's just
- 32:34Speaker 1: not as many people riding. I don't know. I don't Yeah,
- 32:37Speaker 1: I'm not sure. And a special thanks to this week's sponsor,
- 32:42Speaker 1: The Medic. When you're heading out, you don't want anything

- 33:15Speaker 1: rugged use cooler that you can rely on and enjoy
- 33:18Speaker 1: for years to come. I'm not sure. I have to
- 33:22Speaker 1: say that, like the as vehicle speeds have gone up,
- 33:25Speaker 1: as distracted drivers have gone up. Yeah, the appeal of
- 33:28Speaker 1: motorcycling to me is less. Yeah, I love off road
- 33:33Speaker 1: motorcycle riding. I've just had what a great workout that is. Yeah,
- 33:37Speaker 1: I need to do that. I've gotten fat. The end
- 33:40Speaker 1: of twenty twenty you have not. The end of twenty
- 33:44Speaker 1: twenty one made my pants very tight. Pebble Beach, followed
- 33:49Speaker 1: by wedding, followed by honeymoon, followed by and you've worked
- 33:54Speaker 1: a lot this year too? S working a lot? Yeah, yeah,
- 33:56Speaker 1: sitting down a lot and not traveling. Yeah, boo Matt
- 34:01Speaker 1: or Matt. Let's all show sympathy for Matt. Yeah. So yeah,
- 34:05Speaker 1: so the yeah you do. Yeah, you're working hard man,
- 34:08Speaker 1: proud are you? This is all very sarcastic. I mean
- 34:10Speaker 1: I work really hard, like fuck super hard. But don't
- 34:13Speaker 1: feel sorry for me. So yeah. The Midway Adventure bikes
- 34:17Speaker 1: are money. They're just my My pick of the year,
- 34:20Speaker 1: as always, is the twenty twenty one KTM four to
- 34:23Speaker 1: fifty Factory Rally Edition. You cannot buy it though, sorry,
- 34:27Speaker 1: but it's the best. There you go, well you've heard
- 34:29Speaker 1: it you're if you're going to raise the deck car. Yeah,
- 34:32Speaker 1: we're just crossing across Lichtenstein really quickly. Yeah yeah, which actually,
- 34:38Speaker 1: I mean, you know, my my favorite two wheel powered
- 34:40Speaker 1: vehicle of twenty twenty one is my little uh my
- 34:43Speaker 1: little electric scooter that I bought. Ye what segue is
- 34:47Speaker 1: a segue? We've got this little like gas station, Like
- 34:51Speaker 1: it's like a six minute walk. Yeah, I can get
- 34:53Speaker 1: there in like forty five seconds on my little scooter.
- 34:56Speaker 1: I can tell when, like when your watch or something
- 34:59Speaker 1: tells you to to do yours, to stand up, because
- 35:02Speaker 1: it's like here comes mass stand up and he's on
- 35:04Speaker 1: this scooter, red bull back, a little electric scooter. You go.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Trailer of the year, Yeah, this one. So this is
- 35:11Speaker 1: where we had some like this is where it starts
- 35:14Speaker 1: to bog down. It does. And and the reality is
- 35:17Speaker 1: that until there are some things that are happening in
- 35:19Speaker 1: the trailer market that are good, there's more trailers that
- 35:22Speaker 1: you can live inside, which is in my mind, one
- 35:25Speaker 1: of the few reasons to pull a trailer is that
- 35:27Speaker 1: you can bring along comfort and maybe of foul weather
- 35:31Speaker 1: suitability that you can't build into a truck. I'm just
- 35:34Speaker 1: not going to toast something if I can't open a
- 35:36Speaker 1: door and then like go inside of it. And that's
- 35:38Speaker 1: just my opinion. It works for some people though, So
- 35:41Speaker 1: there's sometimes you have to do that. So like let's
- 35:43Speaker 1: say you've got a Forerunner and you have two or
- 35:46Speaker 1: three kids, then you're probably you're probably gonna you're probably
- 35:50Speaker 1: going to pull a trailer if you've got a tudor
- 35:52Speaker 1: wrangler and it's you and a kid or a dog
- 35:56Speaker 1: and a partner or whatever. You I can see why
- 35:59Speaker 1: some people would just pull a lightweight trailer behind their
- 36:01Speaker 1: vehicle if you can build the systems into the truck,
- 36:04Speaker 1: build the systems into the truck. So that way, when
- 36:07Speaker 1: you're on that shelf road in Colorado and the trees
- 36:09Speaker 1: down and you've got to back up, how do you
- 36:11Speaker 1: do that? Like, I mean, I've been in those situations
- 36:13Speaker 1: and it takes you. You burn the trailer like off
- 36:17Speaker 1: the edge you go. So you wait until that guy
- 36:19Speaker 1: comes along that really knows how to back a trailer exactly.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Just wait for a week. It's a roof. There's there's
- 36:25Speaker 1: a roof. Our buildings collectively got hit by hail like
- 36:29Speaker 1: over the summer, Like looks like a frag bomb went on,
- 36:31Speaker 1: and like, I'm looking at my door today and there's
- 36:33Speaker 1: a guy that just like comes barreling it in the
- 36:35Speaker 1: super Duty with this big stuff trailer that you put
- 36:38Speaker 1: stuff in. Sure like the ones that say like big ticks. Yeah,
- 36:41Speaker 1: and this dude just like boom bam, just like perfectly
- 36:44Speaker 1: back to a trailer. I'm like, that guy knows how
- 36:45Speaker 1: to back a trailer. I don't know how to back
- 36:47Speaker 1: a trailer like that. Yeah, they terrify me, and I
- 36:49Speaker 1: can do it, but I'm like it takes it's a commitment.
- 36:52Speaker 1: And so from my perspective is if you're going to
- 36:55Speaker 1: toast something that just has a roof ten on it,
- 36:57Speaker 1: just put the roof tent on top of your car, yeah,
- 36:59Speaker 1: endeavor to do that. Yeah. And so the smaller trailers
- 37:02Speaker 1: are less appealing to me. But we're starting to see
- 37:05Speaker 1: smaller trailers that you can sleep inside with heaters and
- 37:08Speaker 1: protection from the elements and all your job trailers two
- 37:11Speaker 1: point zero totally yeah, And I think that that has
- 37:13Speaker 1: a lot of merit. I think that a lot of
- 37:15Speaker 1: people are looking at living inside a trailer, so like
- 37:17Speaker 1: an airstream or a trailer that has a bathroom, and
- 37:20Speaker 1: a shower and all those in that those kinds of
- 37:22Speaker 1: things make sense because you can't build those fully inside
- 37:25Speaker 1: a vehicle unless it's a camper that built into a vehicle.
- 37:28Speaker 1: So I think that trailers like that are changing. Now.
- 37:31Speaker 1: What needs to happen next is that they need to
- 37:33Speaker 1: improve the quality. Yeah, we are just encountering test unit
- 37:37Speaker 1: after test unit after test unit with multiple system failures,
- 37:42Speaker 1: multiple fit and finished failures. So I think that that's
- 37:45Speaker 1: my biggest concern is We've got trailers are coming along,
- 37:48Speaker 1: they're starting to meet the needs of the consumer, and
- 37:50Speaker 1: they're starting to be more appropriate for just But there
- 37:53Speaker 1: are these trailers on the market that are they look
- 37:56Speaker 1: really appealing and honestly for the price of what they
- 37:59Speaker 1: actually self war I can't disagree. And you know, the
- 38:02Speaker 1: RV industry, which is rapidly merging with the overland industry. Yeah,
- 38:07Speaker 1: you know, you can have one hundred and twenty thousand
- 38:10Speaker 1: dollars trailer, but it'll actually sell for like twelve cents
- 38:14Speaker 1: and a Snickers bar or something sure, like like the
- 38:17Speaker 1: MSRP Like once in twenty twenty one they sold for
- 38:21Speaker 1: MSRP sure and that's about it, you know, So I
- 38:24Speaker 1: don't know, like there's a lot of for an off
- 38:26Speaker 1: road trailer's a lot of systems to be built into them.
- 38:29Speaker 1: But what we're really starting to get here with, I'm
- 38:31Speaker 1: going to say, the off road caravan type trailer, you know,
- 38:34Speaker 1: something that you can live inside of, something that's like
- 38:36Speaker 1: a typical RV trailer. Because all of these are coming
- 38:38Speaker 1: out of China. Yeah, and kind of the provenance of
- 38:41Speaker 1: these things is, you know, Australia really innovated in that
- 38:44Speaker 1: segment late nineties, early two thousands, and the market became
- 38:49Speaker 1: large enough. Australians have a lot of money and a
- 38:51Speaker 1: lot of them just that as a pastime for that country,
- 38:54Speaker 1: so they use it. Well. Then they started exporting manufacturing
- 38:57Speaker 1: to China, and now there's just been so much turnover
- 39:00Speaker 1: and whatever that there are just companies in China that
- 39:03Speaker 1: make these trailers. I'm sure that you can find if
- 39:05Speaker 1: you if you're looking at an off road trailer, I'm
- 39:08Speaker 1: not going to name names, but then you go to
- 39:10Speaker 1: Alibaba dot Com and you type in off road caravan
- 39:13Speaker 1: or off road trailer, you're you're going to find something
- 39:16Speaker 1: that's very very similar to that. And there's these markets
- 39:20Speaker 1: in Australia that you know, they kind of do like
- 39:23Speaker 1: you buy them it's built in China and it shows
- 39:25Speaker 1: up and you know, they sell them for X amount
- 39:28Speaker 1: per week or X amount per month, and they're they're
- 39:31Speaker 1: the low end because they have domestic manufacturers that are
- 39:35Speaker 1: still doing the high end, the brewder trailers and stuff
- 39:39Speaker 1: like that, that are the ones innovating well. The bands
- 39:43Speaker 1: and said, the new trailers that are on the market
- 39:45Speaker 1: over here are the ones that have been on the
- 39:46Speaker 1: market over there for a long time. I'm not saying
- 39:48Speaker 1: that they don't serve a purpose. I'm not saying that
- 39:50Speaker 1: they don't offer actually a pretty good value because most
- 39:54Speaker 1: RV trailers over here are just of such poor quality
- 39:56Speaker 1: that the quality that even these Chinese trailers offer it's
- 40:00Speaker 1: still pretty good, yeah, for sure, and we've seen some
- 40:02Speaker 1: of them that are very livable. It's just it'll be
- 40:05Speaker 1: nice to see when when that quality requirement starts to
- 40:09Speaker 1: come into play because the reality, and I heard this
- 40:13Speaker 1: from one of the camper manufacturers. He said that the
- 40:15Speaker 1: average camper or trailer buyer only uses it two weekends
- 40:20Speaker 1: a year. So if you only have to use it
- 40:21Speaker 1: two weekends a year, you probably don't notice those quality
- 40:24Speaker 1: issues that much, whereas a typical overland traveler is going
- 40:27Speaker 1: to use it a lot more, maybe even live out
- 40:29Speaker 1: of it, so they're going to degrade very rapidly. So
- 40:32Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to when we start to see like
- 40:35Speaker 1: earth Cruiser and earth Roamer level quality trailers available and
- 40:39Speaker 1: hopefully that that comes with time. And right now, what
- 40:42Speaker 1: people most people pick is in airstream. And we see
- 40:45Speaker 1: a lot of people that they tow an airstream and
- 40:47Speaker 1: they park it and then they drive their truck around
- 40:49Speaker 1: wherever they want to go off roadable that the collective
- 40:52Speaker 1: elk Cart Lake Manufacturers sure is it elk Cahrt Lake
- 40:56Speaker 1: or now Elkaart Lake is in Wisconsin where the racetrack
- 40:58Speaker 1: is Elkhart, Indiana. There you go. That's the ones where
- 41:01Speaker 1: road America is one is where staple guns and glue
- 41:04Speaker 1: and horles things are made. They'll eventually start to see
- 41:07Speaker 1: an opportunity there. I think some airstreams thor who owns
- 41:10Speaker 1: like everyone else in the world. Yeah, I don't know.
- 41:12Speaker 1: It's interesting, so, I mean, it's hard to say, so, yeah,
- 41:16Speaker 1: I can't pin. There's like the trailer of the year,
- 41:18Speaker 1: the trailer of the year, because while there are new
- 41:20Speaker 1: things on the market, they're not actually when you look
- 41:23Speaker 1: into it, they're not actually that new. Yeah, I guess
- 41:25Speaker 1: that is what I would say. So on the camper front,
- 41:28Speaker 1: we've seen some some really cool stuff. There's the Earth
- 41:30Speaker 1: Crews or Tearing Nova that came out in twenty twenty one. Yep,
- 41:33Speaker 1: that's a pretty cool truck totally, and it's they've got
- 41:35Speaker 1: manufacturing down, they've got quality down. It's owned by people,
- 41:39Speaker 1: owned by the founders. They still care about quality. They
- 41:41Speaker 1: still do their own versions of adventures around the world,
- 41:44Speaker 1: so we see we see good quality out of that.
- 41:46Speaker 1: A couple of years ago, the Earth Roamer, their new
- 41:49Speaker 1: carbon version came out, which is LTI. Yeah, the LTI
- 41:53Speaker 1: is really cool. Mike mcmond. Mike mcmon gets all the
- 41:55Speaker 1: cool stuff, all the cool toys. Yeah, the LTI is cool.
- 41:58Speaker 1: But that's more of a I guess, more of a
- 41:59Speaker 1: twenty two twenty probably twenty you know, the I think
- 42:05Speaker 1: launched in twenty twenty one camper style. I do like
- 42:08Speaker 1: the version two Go Fast camper. Yeah, it just looks
- 42:12Speaker 1: really cool, like it looks great. You know. I saw
- 42:14Speaker 1: a couple like my buddy Jackson has one on as
- 42:16Speaker 1: Ad Prospector, and it just like it looks cool, like
- 42:20Speaker 1: there's thought that's gone into it. It's you know, but
- 42:22Speaker 1: it's very much a truck bed that you can camp in,
- 42:25Speaker 1: totally the way I look at the GFC stuff. You know,
- 42:28Speaker 1: that's the school the Scout camper that you got. Those
- 42:30Speaker 1: are really starting to hit the market in twenty twenty one.
- 42:32Speaker 1: I couldn't be happier with it. Yeah, So, I mean,
- 42:34Speaker 1: it was a camper that I paid for myself, and
- 42:38Speaker 1: there's been the only issue that I've had with the
- 42:40Speaker 1: camper was the was the water tank. And it's not
- 42:43Speaker 1: the tank that's built in. It's just like a lifesaver,
- 42:46Speaker 1: not this on this podcast. That thing was gonna leak, yeah,
- 42:49Speaker 1: and it always leak. Yeah. So yeah, the life Saver
- 42:52Speaker 1: jerry can does not work on its side. But they
- 42:54Speaker 1: don't work upright either. Well I haven't had any trouble
- 42:57Speaker 1: with them upright, but on its side, it definitely it doesn't.
- 43:00Speaker 1: It doesn't work yet everywhere. It's a super cool concepts
- 43:02Speaker 1: and you get pressurized water that's filtered in. Yeah, so
- 43:05Speaker 1: if you can, I've finally got it where it doesn't leak,
- 43:07Speaker 1: but it was like a bunch of rescue tape and
- 43:10Speaker 1: changing seals and a bunch of things to try to
- 43:13Speaker 1: keep it from leaking. And now it doesn't leak. But overall,
- 43:16Speaker 1: super happy with the camper. And it's the fact that
- 43:19Speaker 1: it's also it's durable, it's simple, and it's affordable. That's
- 43:22Speaker 1: kind of a rare combination. To Varne. They're in the
- 43:25Speaker 1: low twenties. Yeah, it depends on what like an Olympic
- 43:27Speaker 1: or Olympia can can be in the twenties. The Keen
- 43:31Speaker 1: Eye that I have is in the high twenty mid
- 43:33Speaker 1: to high twenties. So great. They're very, very good value,
- 43:38Speaker 1: and it's because they're very simple. So me, I just
- 43:41Speaker 1: wanted a four season shell that I could sleep in comfortably. Yeah,
- 43:44Speaker 1: and have a heater. And I love the little Dickinson.
- 43:47Speaker 1: You have the little Dickinson sailboat heater that's in there.
- 43:50Speaker 1: I love it. So yeah, for me, I'm super happy
- 43:54Speaker 1: customer of that. So yeah, it'll be interesting. I think
- 43:57Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two, because that's it's the year that
- 44:00Speaker 1: we're now in, we're going to see more hard sided campers. Yep.
- 44:04Speaker 1: I think we're going to see these are mass predictions
- 44:08Speaker 1: for twenty twenty two. In the camper segment, I think
- 44:11Speaker 1: we're going to see less vans. I think we've hit
- 44:12Speaker 1: peak van. Like the moment I started seeing at the
- 44:15Speaker 1: moment I started seeing not another sprinter, bumper stickers, I'm like, Touchet,
- 44:21Speaker 1: you know, there's so many, so many vans out there
- 44:24Speaker 1: right now, and we're going to continue to see them.
- 44:25Speaker 1: But oh yeah, I'm hoping need to be popular. But
- 44:28Speaker 1: full sized trucks with campers are going to be full
- 44:29Speaker 1: sized trucks with campers. It's going to be the change.
- 44:31Speaker 1: And that's why the Earth Cruiser Terra Nova really interests me.
- 44:34Speaker 1: You know, this is just me personally. I have never
- 44:37Speaker 1: been able to talk myself into driving amidst issue Fuso
- 44:40Speaker 1: or canter. I just doesn't. It just doesn't work for me.
- 44:43Speaker 1: They're pretty fatiguing, Like when I drove that one around Australia,
- 44:46Speaker 1: it was like you're sitting on top of the front
- 44:48Speaker 1: axle and it's pretty fatiguing. They don't have a lot
- 44:50Speaker 1: of power, et cetera, et cetera, But for a pure
- 44:54Speaker 1: travel truck, they make so much sense totally. Once they're
- 44:57Speaker 1: in a container, of the US, like I mean Earth
- 45:00Speaker 1: Roamer for the US, Earth Cruiser for everywhere else yep.
- 45:03Speaker 1: But these new diesel, well you don't have to get
- 45:06Speaker 1: into diesel. You can get it with the seven three Godzilla,
- 45:08Speaker 1: you can get it on any of the platforms. With
- 45:10Speaker 1: that Terra Nova. I like that style. Yeah, it makes
- 45:13Speaker 1: a lot of sense, makes a lot of sense. And
- 45:15Speaker 1: there's the at Terra yep that came out, which you
- 45:19Speaker 1: know in collaboration with turnover Land. I think Turnoverland developed it.
- 45:23Speaker 1: They did, I think they developed the structure and then
- 45:26Speaker 1: Mario and his team from at Overland they developed the
- 45:30Speaker 1: interior systems. Yeah, stuff like that's really cool to see
- 45:33Speaker 1: to see coming out. But it's definitely a world ready.
- 45:36Speaker 1: We're going to start seeing more integrated vehicles, I like
- 45:40Speaker 1: to think because it makes a lot of sense. You know,
- 45:41Speaker 1: eventually people are going to tire of buying the camper
- 45:45Speaker 1: and then buying the flatbed. I mean there's clearly a
- 45:48Speaker 1: market for because people are spending. You know, by the
- 45:50Speaker 1: time you buy a good flatbed, a good camper, and
- 45:53Speaker 1: a good truck outfitted, you're at two hundred thousand dollars. Yeah,
- 45:56Speaker 1: somewhere between one fifty two hundred. Yeah, and I think
- 45:59Speaker 1: that's why thes have stayed with it, because you can
- 46:02Speaker 1: go buy a van for fifty grand and then build
- 46:04Speaker 1: a shelter. You can and you can build it out
- 46:06Speaker 1: yourself at your leisure because you've got and that's why
- 46:09Speaker 1: the vans have done well. Vans are cool, all right.
- 46:12Speaker 1: So let's get into the evs. So EV's are coming.
- 46:16Speaker 1: It's going to be more and more a point of
- 46:17Speaker 1: reality for us. We're going to see people traveling in
- 46:19Speaker 1: a more finitely evy of the year for me is
- 46:22Speaker 1: the RAMTRX. So let let's let's continue on this podcast,
- 46:29Speaker 1: which has turned a little bit into Matt's soapbox. I've
- 46:34Speaker 1: got a buddy who in December of twenty twenty bought
- 46:37Speaker 1: a Rivian, which by now you know they're they're advertising
- 46:40Speaker 1: that they're delivering them. I think Rivians are cool. They're
- 46:43Speaker 1: delivering them to like early investors in the company. They're
- 46:47Speaker 1: they're delivering in very small numbers in reality. So he
- 46:51Speaker 1: bought one and put his deposit down in December twenty twenty,
- 46:54Speaker 1: so that is, you know, over a year ago. Now
- 46:56Speaker 1: he won't get in until the summer of twenty twenty three,
- 46:59Speaker 1: So I would have to say, as far as Rivian
- 47:01Speaker 1: stuff goes and ev adoption twenty twenty one was, it
- 47:04Speaker 1: would have to have been a big year. So I'm like,
- 47:06Speaker 1: I was thinking about buying one, and I'm like, well,
- 47:08Speaker 1: but he ordered it over a year ago and he's
- 47:10Speaker 1: not going to get it for a year and a half. Sure,
- 47:13Speaker 1: So when would you ever see it? By the time
- 47:16Speaker 1: I buy that car, it's going to be outdated. That's
- 47:18Speaker 1: That's the one challenge that Rivian will have is that
- 47:20Speaker 1: we've seen that We've seen the car for a long time.
- 47:23Speaker 1: We've seen it for a long time, and it is
- 47:24Speaker 1: a very handsome truck. I like the fact that it
- 47:26Speaker 1: looks it looks more traditional and it's styling. I do
- 47:29Speaker 1: like that a lot, you know. I like the Rivian team.
- 47:32Speaker 1: We spent a much of time with them on the
- 47:34Speaker 1: Rebel rally. Sure they had a vehicle competing in it,
- 47:38Speaker 1: so we spent a lot of time with him. It's
- 47:40Speaker 1: it's really cool, but making cars is hard. But making
- 47:43Speaker 1: cars is hard, and learning how to make cars is hard. Meanwhile,
- 47:47Speaker 1: I can by the time if I placed an order
- 47:49Speaker 1: for a Rivian right now, I suspect I will be
- 47:52Speaker 1: able to buy an EV on a showroom floor from
- 47:56Speaker 1: the big three manufacturers. Yeah. GM just announced their Colorado.
- 48:00Speaker 1: They're Silverado, Silverado EV. They have Ford has just double
- 48:05Speaker 1: old production of the Lightning. The Hummer EV is delivering
- 48:09Speaker 1: in this same way that Rivian is. It's kind of
- 48:12Speaker 1: coming out right now for the for the one hundred
- 48:14Speaker 1: and twelve Grand model. So this is all hitting so
- 48:17Speaker 1: hopefully want you want to see him succeed bad. They
- 48:21Speaker 1: were certainly playing in white space. They came up with
- 48:24Speaker 1: a really attractive unit with a bunch of great technology,
- 48:27Speaker 1: but they've got to start delivering cars or else it'll
- 48:30Speaker 1: just be there there in the wake of Yeah, I
- 48:32Speaker 1: mean it would take Gusto to be in that space
- 48:35Speaker 1: because there is a lot of things Americans do really,
- 48:38Speaker 1: really well. We are the undisputed king of pickups. True
- 48:42Speaker 1: Thailand actually may argue. I think there's more pickup trucks
- 48:45Speaker 1: made in Thailand and owned as an overall percentage of
- 48:48Speaker 1: vehicles in America. Interesting, interesting fact. Hilux, Colorado, a Zuzu
- 48:53Speaker 1: D Max, they're all built there. Okay, Yeah, the diesel
- 48:56Speaker 1: motor that goes in the Colorado, Yeah, gotcha. There but
- 48:59Speaker 1: you're staring that, you're staring down the barrel of the
- 49:01Speaker 1: F one fifty going to EV. And yeah, for sure,
- 49:06Speaker 1: I read a thing today that like almost weekly filanthus
- 49:09Speaker 1: is change that name. Like, I don't care what weird
- 49:14Speaker 1: company has to buy you, but I will take anything.
- 49:16Speaker 1: But Stillanis. You know they're weekly updating their fifteen hundred
- 49:22Speaker 1: EV platform. Yeah, you know they're they're watching what's coming
- 49:25Speaker 1: out and they're like, cool, we're going to make this change,
- 49:27Speaker 1: this change, this change, just change. And they know how
- 49:29Speaker 1: to make cars and they have established supply chain relationships.
- 49:32Speaker 1: So but it's coming. So EV's are, They're here, and
- 49:36Speaker 1: they're and they're coming quickly, and it's exciting to see
- 49:40Speaker 1: that technology because it's it's also let's just say we
- 49:43Speaker 1: dismissed EV's entirely. They inspired the automotive manufacturers to make
- 49:47Speaker 1: more interesting internal combustion engine cars, for sure, So like
- 49:50Speaker 1: that's how we ended up with the TRX and all
- 49:52Speaker 1: of these super fast internal combustion cars. So they're coming.
- 49:56Speaker 1: And I think that the advantage of that the Big
- 49:58Speaker 1: three has is that you're already going to be concerned
- 50:00Speaker 1: about buying something that's so tech heavy. So the fact
- 50:03Speaker 1: that you can go to the local dealership and get
- 50:05Speaker 1: it serviced, Like where do you get the Rivian serviced?
- 50:07Speaker 1: And it's a very complex vehicle. You know, it's a
- 50:10Speaker 1: it's a problem that Tesla solved. Yeah, you know, Tesla
- 50:13Speaker 1: was just shive delivering a million vehicles. That's pretty awesome.
- 50:17Speaker 1: You know, congrats to them. You know, American companies are
- 50:21Speaker 1: leading innovation in evs. Yeah, for sure. Yet Americans really
- 50:25Speaker 1: aren't buying them in the same percentages. But again it'll
- 50:28Speaker 1: come bigger distances. Yeah, it'll like I looked at I
- 50:30Speaker 1: looked at buying a take Can or no, sorry, I'm
- 50:34Speaker 1: going to say this properly, Zepolsha Taye Can Ross Terurismo.
- 50:38Speaker 1: Impressive car, beautifully designed. It is the manufacturing and the
- 50:43Speaker 1: build quality that you would expect from Portia. It's a
- 50:46Speaker 1: great car that happens to be ev It's like a
- 50:48Speaker 1: two hundred and twenty mile EPA range. Sure, so that's Phoenix.
- 50:52Speaker 1: I'm back if you're lucky. And then I started looking
- 50:54Speaker 1: into the reality of like living in Prescott with an
- 50:56Speaker 1: electric car. There is downtown, there's there's there's two chargers.
- 51:00Speaker 1: It's one at a hotel which I'm not going to
- 51:02Speaker 1: go to, and there's one in front of another hotel
- 51:04Speaker 1: that's near funding Fathers. Some parts of the country just
- 51:06Speaker 1: aren't ready for it yet, and that's what we kind
- 51:08Speaker 1: of decided. But I think that that's going to rapidly change.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Oh for sure, it's going to come very quickly. I
- 51:13Speaker 1: I you know, I wonder how how the evy thing
- 51:15Speaker 1: will will affect overlanding, whether these older cars and I
- 51:19Speaker 1: say older, I mean stuff that's in production right now
- 51:21Speaker 1: will just become a little bit more desirable. I mean,
- 51:23Speaker 1: like ten or fifteen years ago, you didn't want to
- 51:25Speaker 1: touch anything from the two thousands that was mainly land
- 51:28Speaker 1: Rover from being honest, you wanted the basic stuff with
- 51:30Speaker 1: no computers and whatever. But then they figured out electronics totally. Well,
- 51:33Speaker 1: eventually they'll figure out range. Yeah, that's the thing. They'll
- 51:36Speaker 1: figure it all out. And there's always going to be
- 51:38Speaker 1: a place for internal combustion in some capacity. And you know,
- 51:42Speaker 1: it's like when the automotive. When the automobile came, the
- 51:45Speaker 1: horses didn't go away. They just they just became something
- 51:48Speaker 1: that people did for for fun or recreation, are on
- 51:51Speaker 1: their ranch. So you're going to continue to see internal
- 51:54Speaker 1: combustion vehicles are just going to be not as common
- 51:57Speaker 1: as they are now. Yeah, and I think that they'll
- 51:59Speaker 1: be cool. I mean, we've figured them out gear, but
- 52:01Speaker 1: that's exciting to see what's going to happen. Yeah, I hope.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I wasn't like too hard on. I think they're a
- 52:05Speaker 1: super cool company, but you just you, well, you're pulling
- 52:08Speaker 1: for them. You want them to be successful. But if
- 52:10Speaker 1: they wait too long, the car is going to look
- 52:12Speaker 1: dated and they're gonna get better big manufacturer boom. It's
- 52:15Speaker 1: super easy to do. What they're doing is got to
- 52:18Speaker 1: be one of the hardest things in the world for sure. Fracture, yeah,
- 52:20Speaker 1: for sure, and to do it at volume, you know. Yeah,
- 52:23Speaker 1: we wish them all the year. For me, Raban, I'd
- 52:25Speaker 1: have like they have too. They've got the truck and
- 52:27Speaker 1: they've got the suv, both really cool gear of the year.
- 52:31Speaker 1: Here's another thing is like I feel like there's just
- 52:33Speaker 1: a lot of unnecessary widgets that came out this year.
- 52:36Speaker 1: So you like your your electric scooter, Like, what's the
- 52:39Speaker 1: stuff that even if we like, let's say that we
- 52:42Speaker 1: just abandoned the idea that there's some totally new, exciting
- 52:46Speaker 1: overland piece of kit. Let's just go with what, like
- 52:48Speaker 1: what what do you been kind of falling in love with?
- 52:51Speaker 1: What have you been using? You like you like your
- 52:52Speaker 1: Apple headphones? You like you like your I got those
- 52:55Speaker 1: head that the Apple like the big ones. Yeah, they're
- 52:59Speaker 1: really heavy, like to the point where's running, they'll kind
- 53:03Speaker 1: of like fall off and then they'll like come crashing
- 53:05Speaker 1: to the ground. Wow, and they're they're they need to
- 53:08Speaker 1: make them lighter. I get that they're supposed to be
- 53:10Speaker 1: premium feeling or whatever, but they're really heavy. Geez. I
- 53:13Speaker 1: think that the geary, techy thing that I adopted most
- 53:16Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one I was probably Gaya. Yeah. I
- 53:21Speaker 1: really started planning roots and trips in that because with
- 53:24Speaker 1: the Apple car Play integration, it's it's a pretty big thing.
- 53:28Speaker 1: I still find it better for planning roots and stuff.
- 53:31Speaker 1: I know there's Onyx, but Onyx has this weird I
- 53:35Speaker 1: don't like their maps, Like, if you're a map geek,
- 53:37Speaker 1: I think Guya is better. Onyx. You know, they like
- 53:41Speaker 1: they highlight. They do this like fluorescent highlight of all
- 53:43Speaker 1: these it can get super busy. You can turn those
- 53:48Speaker 1: layers off, which help. But yeah, what I do like
- 53:50Speaker 1: is the very clean display of the map on Guaya
- 53:53Speaker 1: and I and so this is one of the things
- 53:55Speaker 1: that I love is all the different map layers you
- 53:57Speaker 1: can get, so you can get like old school tapos
- 53:59Speaker 1: like nineteen hundred guya gya, we're talking guy not honesty, Yeah,
- 54:04Speaker 1: because you can get all the old stuff. I love
- 54:05Speaker 1: so many maps so I can get like the original
- 54:08Speaker 1: topo map of Prescott where it shows all the mines
- 54:11Speaker 1: and where all of the I downloaded that one after
- 54:14Speaker 1: it's so it's so fun to be on a trail
- 54:17Speaker 1: and be like, oh, there's a mine right up over there,
- 54:19Speaker 1: and sure enough it's there. So that's really here's a
- 54:21Speaker 1: few of my favorite ones. They have a light pollution map,
- 54:25Speaker 1: Oh interesting, which you can do it as a layer.
- 54:28Speaker 1: You can layer maps, and I've been using that as
- 54:31Speaker 1: a reference when I want to get away. I'm like,
- 54:34Speaker 1: are there lights around? And you can actually start to
- 54:36Speaker 1: see where the remote places in the country are based
- 54:38Speaker 1: on light pollution because there's lights, there's people. They have
- 54:42Speaker 1: cell coverage maps, which I've have been really useful if
- 54:45Speaker 1: we're kind of working from the road on the sure romer.
- 54:48Speaker 1: That's really handy. They have a wildfire map that shows
- 54:52Speaker 1: you what areas have burned heard about recently. That's a
- 54:55Speaker 1: really cool. It's also gotten really glitchy since Outside Magazine
- 54:57Speaker 1: bought it, Like I have this many of the same layers.
- 55:01Speaker 1: There's like fifteen satellite topo and yeah, it has been
- 55:05Speaker 1: getting a little glitchy for me. That's good to know.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I had. There was a period of time where the
- 55:09Speaker 1: tracks weren't recording, you know, reliably, and that's that's been
- 55:12Speaker 1: stuff that's been fixed. But yeah, they yeah, you just
- 55:16Speaker 1: that's why you got to have multiple options. That's why
- 55:19Speaker 1: I still bring a garment overlander with me, is because
- 55:21Speaker 1: I want to have two sources of my track, just
- 55:23Speaker 1: because we use it in those we use it for editorials.
- 55:26Speaker 1: So yeah, the GPS things that go in your dash
- 55:30Speaker 1: and just it's like it's like using a worse version
- 55:32Speaker 1: of your cell phone. Yeah, it's it's uh, it's good
- 55:37Speaker 1: just to have redund reach that has all the redundancy text.
- 55:40Speaker 1: I liked it because I had a keyboard there you go. Yeah,
- 55:43Speaker 1: in reach is a big thing. That's a big deal. Yeah,
- 55:45Speaker 1: I guess that would probably be a techy thing that
- 55:47Speaker 1: I liked in twenty one is I got like the
- 55:48Speaker 1: big the big one that's orange and I don't know
- 55:50Speaker 1: what it's really called. It's it's the inReach with the
- 55:53Speaker 1: GPS built in. Yeah, and it's got the screen and
- 55:55Speaker 1: you can text from totally. I get the weather. It's
- 55:57Speaker 1: really handy to like you're in the middle of totally
- 56:00Speaker 1: and you can see the weather because you can download
- 56:02Speaker 1: weather reports for your know you could you could open
- 56:05Speaker 1: the door of the earth Romer and step out and
- 56:07Speaker 1: see what the weather is. I like the I like
- 56:11Speaker 1: the Guya one. That's good h for me. I'm just
- 56:15Speaker 1: gonna go with just the things that I've just totally
- 56:17Speaker 1: been geeking on. So I've been I've been using this
- 56:20Speaker 1: Aura ring for a few years now, and they had
- 56:23Speaker 1: a Gen two which I owned, and then they came
- 56:26Speaker 1: out with the Gen three. So it basically allows you
- 56:29Speaker 1: to have like a smart watch but on your finger,
- 56:33Speaker 1: and so it records your steps and record your heart
- 56:35Speaker 1: rate and it records so it helps me recognize like
- 56:38Speaker 1: what things are happening that maybe contribute to some stress
- 56:42Speaker 1: and some increased heart rate. But what I really focus
- 56:45Speaker 1: on is the sleep is. I find that the better
- 56:47Speaker 1: quality sleep I get, the more productive I am, and
- 56:49Speaker 1: the just the happier I am. So it's really useful
- 56:52Speaker 1: for that. They're not a sponsor anything. This is little.
- 56:54Speaker 1: I paid cash for it, just like I like. I
- 56:57Speaker 1: like it sounds like a like a cool I got
- 56:59Speaker 1: a Apple watch for Christmas, and I'm like, and I'm
- 57:01Speaker 1: kind I kind of gotten into watch it. Yeah, you
- 57:03Speaker 1: like you like? So do I? So? I like old
- 57:05Speaker 1: school watches. And this is another thing that was really
- 57:08Speaker 1: fun for me is I was at Thanksgiving with my
- 57:11Speaker 1: family and I was and I got this watchwinder, this
- 57:14Speaker 1: wolf watchwinder for the for the automatic watches that I've got,
- 57:18Speaker 1: and my dad's like, you know, I think I've got
- 57:19Speaker 1: this cool old watch. He's like, I bought it when
- 57:21Speaker 1: I was in the Vietnam War and it was made
- 57:24Speaker 1: by Saiko. And he's like, I think I bought it
- 57:27Speaker 1: in the late sixties or like maybe sixty nine or seventy.
- 57:30Speaker 1: I'm like, Dad, go get the watch. We got to
- 57:32Speaker 1: check it out. So he goes and he shuffles around, so,
- 57:34Speaker 1: you know, looking for the watch for twenty thirty minutes
- 57:36Speaker 1: and he comes out and it's this Siko chronograph now
- 57:39Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty nine nineteen seventy there was this battle
- 57:43Speaker 1: going on of who is going to come out with
- 57:44Speaker 1: the first automatic chronograph, and Zenith, I believe, was one
- 57:48Speaker 1: that did. And then there was a consortium of Swiss
- 57:52Speaker 1: Audit watchmakers that that also produced a version, and then
- 57:56Speaker 1: Seiko came out with one. So it's literally one of
- 57:57Speaker 1: the first automatic chronographs. And this is my dad's watch.
- 58:01Speaker 1: So it's like and it's soup, it's a it's the
- 58:03Speaker 1: watch that Bruce Lee wore. I mean, it's like, it's
- 58:06Speaker 1: a it's it was the first automatic cronograph in space
- 58:10Speaker 1: was this. They called it the Pogue. It's a slightly
- 58:12Speaker 1: different face of the watch than the one that my
- 58:15Speaker 1: dad had, but it's the same movement and all that
- 58:18Speaker 1: same same vintage and everything. So it was for me,
- 58:20Speaker 1: like to get this super cool watch from my dad.
- 58:22Speaker 1: So I want to wear my dad's watch, but I
- 58:24Speaker 1: also want to keep track of my sleep and my
- 58:26Speaker 1: heart rate and all that other stuff that helps me
- 58:28Speaker 1: be a healthier human. So that's why I like the
- 58:30Speaker 1: ORR ring. So yeah, Matt and I have both gotten
- 58:32Speaker 1: into watches in the last couple of years. So yeah,
- 58:35Speaker 1: so those that are listening you want if we want
- 58:36Speaker 1: to geek out on watches, like send me a thing
- 58:39Speaker 1: on the on the instagrams. So the ORR ring is
- 58:42Speaker 1: super cool. My MacBook Pro that Apple finally fixed all
- 58:45Speaker 1: the things that were terrible about the their laptops forever,
- 58:49Speaker 1: Like I actually have multiple USBC ports, so it's it's
- 58:53Speaker 1: back to being a great source for travel and producing content.
- 58:57Speaker 1: So I've been really happy with the new MacBook Pro. Cool.
- 59:00Speaker 1: But that as far as overlandy gear, there's just there's
- 59:03Speaker 1: just nothing that really stood out to me as being
- 59:06Speaker 1: different that I wanted to talk about today or encourage
- 59:09Speaker 1: people to buy. All the stuff that I had the
- 59:12Speaker 1: year before works just as well. So yeah, I've just
- 59:15Speaker 1: got nothing on the overland front. I mean I've got
- 59:18Speaker 1: a lot of geeky Snowpeak stuff that I got. Yeah, yeah,
- 59:20Speaker 1: because I just well, Snowpeak stuff is awesome. Demetic did
- 59:23Speaker 1: come out with this new water system, but it's not
- 59:25Speaker 1: available yet so we haven't had a chance to test it.
- 59:27Speaker 1: It has a lot of merit, but we haven't had
- 59:30Speaker 1: a chance to test it yet, so that should be
- 59:32Speaker 1: that should be a good one. Yeah, I don't know.
- 59:34Speaker 1: I mean, like I've just geeked out so hard on
- 59:36Speaker 1: the earth Rommer. Yeah, twenty twenty one. I put this
- 59:39Speaker 1: like five G Internet system in with this crazy external
- 59:43Speaker 1: antenna that was kind of cool, perfect, but I've been
- 59:45Speaker 1: working so I haven't been able to use it. I
- 59:48Speaker 1: got the starlink, which is amazing, but they don't let it.
- 59:50Speaker 1: They don't let you move with it yet. So yeah,
- 59:52Speaker 1: it's it's incredibly cool. Cats and starlink. We're like, yeah,
- 59:55Speaker 1: the dish surface is heated and the cats are like,
- 59:58Speaker 1: it's so funny. Actually, like I feel Internet. Yeah, he
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: was wondering why his Internet wasn't working and he looks
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: outside and there's like four cats sleeping on the dish.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: That is pretty funny. So yeah, So no, no super
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: exciting new pieces of gear. Here's an interesting thing for
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: travelers that I've found. They now make double A triple
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: A CD whatever replaceable batteries, but they charge by like
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: micro USB or USB C. I found them on Amazon
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: and there's like several manufacturers, so that's probably. So you
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: plug it right into the battery itself, like it right
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: into the battery. That's clever. I've switched everything that we
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: need in the earth Roam or over to that because
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: I don't want to be buying batteries and just throwing
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: them away. Replaceable batteries non rechargeable are not super great
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: from I don't like I have the scientific data on that,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: but I would have to imagine that throwing it feels
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: better to not throw it away, feels better to not
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: throw it away. Sure, So, like I've got this big
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: mag light mounted on my door in case I have
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: to like beat a crackhead or something outside of my
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: earth rummer and put like the big lithium batteries in
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: that because they were heavier or what, but lighter so
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: you have less mass to smash with. But I'm a ninja.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm not. I got into Yeah, I also
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: got into guns. I got into HK is really heavy
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one. Yeah, I turned into an MP
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: five slut and I even built an MP five. It's
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: ending an SP five like for the Earth from it.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: It's my little it's got its own little truck gun.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: I like that. No, the HK stuff is amazing. I
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: love my SP eight nine K that I was fortunate
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: to buy off of John Lee at expedition. I'm just
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: like shooting a sewing machine, a really really nice showing. Yeah,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: but uh gee, what else? No fun? I mean, it's
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: all it's all fun stuff. I think we're just kind
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: of pent up. I think we want to get out
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: and travel. I want to get out and travel, and
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: so the gear is not that exciting for me. It's
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: part of my job, so I test things and I
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: am certainly enthusiastic around it for that period of time.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: But when it comes to something I want to tell
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: somebody to buy, it's like I want, I just want
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: to buy a plane ticket to Johannesburg, is whatever, just
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: want I just want to know, Like you know, we're
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: doing this big Alaska trip. Is is my big focus.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Is We're going to spend a couple of months. We're
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: going to do all the fairly remote places in Northern Canada.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: I'm calling it my Alaska trip because that's kind of
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: the I guess in theory, the furthest destination. But it's
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: really going to be Yukon, Northwest Territory. That's amazing trip. Yeah,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: that'll be amazing, you know. So I'm so beautiful out there.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: I have to say, like it would really suck if
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: like the world got in the way of that because
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: it gotten the way of it in twenty nineteen because
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: of work. I my choice, Like sure, you know, I'm
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: an entrepreneur, like I got to put the bread on
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: the table. Yeah, so to speak. Twenty twenty obviously no
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: go twenty twenty one. For most of the for most
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: of the year, you couldn't. And then we were again,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: we were just so busy. And I'm just like twenty
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: twenty two like hell or high water, like I have
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: to do it, Yeah you can't. Yeah, maybe this goes
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: into something positive, Like I think so many people that
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: probably listen to this podcast have had these adventures that
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: they want to do it they can't, Sure, but you
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: have to. You have to keep the dream alive, and
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: you have to keep persevering, and you have to keep
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: you have to keep it on your mind. You have
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: to keep it as a goal. You know. If you
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: can't go, that's that's something that's out of your control. Sure,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: But what you can control is you can you can
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: remember the person that you were before all of this
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: crap happened. Sure, and and you can hold yourself accountable
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: to say I want to do this no matter you know,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Like so many versions of it. Yeah, so many people,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: like we were talking, have just just geared out, Like
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: I think we just don't know any gear for twenty
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: twenty one because we're just like tired of buying stuff.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Like I took the Amazon app off my phone because
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I'm like it's too convenient. Yeah, and it's like you
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: get a little bit of money in your pocket. You're like, oh, yeah,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: that's cool. Cool, Yeah, hold on one second, cool. Yeah,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: I just bought it. Yeah, and it's maybe it's not good,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: and I just I want to make a conscious effort
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: to really reprioritize overland travel in twenty twenty one, and
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: that that's going to mean selling cars and that kind
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: of stuff, because you know, you add stuff and then
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: the stuff ends up owning you totally. It takes a
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: ton of time. Not a super great feeling when you
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: kind of like, well, we've all got to go through that. Yeah,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: I went through it. I had way too many cars
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: for too long and it's a lot to maintain, it is,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: and it's good, it's healthy to let that stuff go.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: So that's twenty twenty one. I mean, what an amazing year.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: We are so grateful for all of you for listening
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: and for supporting the podcast, and we would love to
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: get your feedback when you think about ways of helping
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: with the Overland Journal podcast. Obviously, being a subscriber to
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: the print magazine is what makes this possible just from
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: an infrastructure standpoint. So we thank all of you that
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: subscribe to Overland Journal as a magazine, and we thank
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: all of you for giving us feedback. We're going to
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: do an AMA at some point in the near future.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: We've collected a lot of the questions that you guys
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: have been asking, so we'll kind of rip through some
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: of those questions that you guys have been sending our way.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: If you want to get a hold of Matt, it's
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: Matt Explore. Yeah, you're on Instagram and you're Scott dot
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: a dot Brady. That's me on Instagram. You guys are welcome,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: welcome to reach out. I'm also Scott underscore Brady on Twitter. Oh,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: you're on Twitter, and I have been playing with that
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: a little bit more. It's it's kind of an interesting
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: change from the metaverse in a way. So I found
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: myself very much giving it up on Facebook. Facebook. Yeah,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: so I just haven't really I feel bad because I
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: have like so many like friends that I've met super
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: quality people, and that's kind of how I almost stay
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: in touch with a lot of people. Yeah, I'll go there.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Algorithms have somehow just like made toxicity the priority and
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: so and Instagram's great too. It's there's a lot of
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: beautiful imagery on it. But I think I've gotten a
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: little bit more selective on who I follow, So I'm
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: more inspired than I learned that you can generally people
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: host crazy stories, but they might have like cool hosts,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: yeah or whatever. I forgot how they summon it between
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: the two. But you can mute people on stories. Oh
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: that's good. I didn't know that. Like I can't stand
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: the people that share, like the influencers that share a
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: story like every three seconds. Here I am camping on
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: the beach. Here's the quality of the sand. Here's my
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: dog on the beach. Here's the quality of the sand.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Here I am camping on the beach. And it's like
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: you can get like seven or eight of them in
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: a row. Yeah, and you you know, like the stories
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: are like that, So how do you how do you
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: mute them? You just like go to their profile and
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: you can go to mute. Oh, awesome. Okay, that's very helpful.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: So I see I just learned something. Yeah. Yeah, it's
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: like here, like I'm going to mute you perfect, No,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: although I would have to do stories in order for
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: you to actually muting me while I do that. Yeah,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: so everybody, Yeah good twenty twenty two. Yeah, spend time
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: with your families, spend time traveling, spend time thinking about traveling.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: Less stuff, more travel yep, for sure. And that's also
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: one of those things that it's do as I say,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: not as I do, because I may just end up
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: with stuff and travel. Yeah. Well, we're learning. It's this
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: is not a perfect this is not a perfect process.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: So but we thank you all for listening, and we'll
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: talk to you next time.
