- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department podcast.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: I am Sean Boyle, and joining me today, it's a special guest, it's a good friend.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: It's a very frequent guest.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: It is Mr.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Jeremy Good.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: He goes by many names.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: The worm, cousin, but to all of us, he is Jeremy.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Jarr, how are you?
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Doing well, Sean.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Tortured fan, nonetheless.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Eagles.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: That's tortured.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know, Phillies.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: We can still count that, but count that.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, not good.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: But you know, if there's room on the Pittsburgh Steelers bandwagon, maybe even the Kentucky Wildcats, too.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's right.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Jared, there's lots of room on both bandwagons.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you're you're welcome anytime.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Glad to have you here.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: We have a loaded agenda today.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: We have a lot of topics.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: We're not gonna go too deep into any of them, but we're gonna try to our best to add some nuance.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: We're gonna cover a lot.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk college football, NFL, some NBA early season takeaways, college basketball returns, and we have to react to some big news in the Philadelphia region.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: And then we'll do a little bit of a Halloween segment at the end to get us in the spirit for the weekend ahead.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Jeremy, are you ready to go?
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Ready to go.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Let's start with college football as we usually do.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Last weekend was one of those weekends that on paper didn't look great.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: It could not live up to the expectations that the weekend before had set, which was arguably the best weekend of all time in the sport.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: But we got some upsets nonetheless.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: We see BYU lose an absolutely crazy game to UCF, and I I don't know if I've ever seen anything quite like that, Jeremy.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: I think what we learned last weekend was just confirming what we're starting to know this year, that there's not any really truly great teams that are bulletproof, and anybody can lose to anyone on any given week.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: And I think last week was a good representation of that.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: I'm glad we expanded the playoff pool uh to 12 teams right now.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you could field eight playoff teams.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: You had alone 12, and then of course going forward next year with 24.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, it really is looking like the NFL kind of Sean, where the best teams are losing two games a season, and I think it's gonna be three, possibly this year, going forward in a 24 team playoff system.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna be three, too.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: You're gonna look see a lot of teams with like multiple losses and still be top 10 late into November.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, I don't know if I love it for college football.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: At the same time, I didn't love the BCS system where if you lost a game 10 the season, you were probably out of the championship game.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: I think that's tough, but it's different.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: It's a different system now, and they're teams are losing left and left and right.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: BYU.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: They beat uh Notre Dame in dramatic fashion uh the week before and only they use to central Central Florida the next week.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Crazy stuff.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Jarr, uh am I hearing this right?
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: You want to shrink the game?
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Are you are you a fan of the smaller playoff format?
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: Is that what I'm hearing?
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: I've always I'm always a pro proponent of shrink the game any sport.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, shrink it from 24.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: 12 I can live with, I guess.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Sometimes the the nine to twelve teams are not really good.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: But 12, okay, fine.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: 24, shrink it.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Too many.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: I could not disagree more.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: I think this year would be perfect for a 2014 playoff because I don't know that we can narrow the list of 12 teams down in terms of who we think are good.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: I think there are more than 12 teams that are in the same tier, so to speak, that we're not able to distinguish between without them playing head to head in the playoff setting.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: So I wish we had 24 teams in the playoffs this year.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: I'm a little bit bummed out it's only 12.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: From a competitive standpoint, I hear you.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: It's not that there are 24 good teams that you're trying to figure out where to seed them.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of bad teams that no one's like taking the ball and running away with the whole thing.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So from a competitive standpoint, sure, it it's open for anybody.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: From a talent level, I don't know how top-heavy the field is.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it's interesting.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: Well, which teams do you think are elite this year that are truly deserving of a playoff spot?
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: If even if it was a four-team playoff, who would you be putting into it?
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Ohio State.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: I think Notre Dame, but geez, I think they haven't proven anything.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: They played one good team and they lost.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: I know, yeah.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: So it sounds like you want to bring the BCS back, whether we just vote national champion and it's Ohio State.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: That's maybe bring it back to BCS.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Listen, you're not alone in that opinion.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Some people like how it used to be.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Most people want a playoff of some sort, which I'm sure you do, but I'm a proponent of the 24 teams because I'm not a fan like you.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: You're an elitist, you're an Alabama guy, you're a guy who's been in that perennial top four for decades now.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Maybe not under Calen De Boer, but you you got spoiled certainly with Nick Saban.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: And it's not like Debore's fallen off too much.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: I'm a fan of Kentucky, and to me, a 24 team field allows me to dream a little bit bigger and a little bit longer into the season than usual.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Hey, this year, listen, we might not need 24.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: We might be able to make it with just 12.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: But I think my point remains, I think more games throughout the course of the season are going to matter to more teams.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: So I guess that's why I'm a proponent of the expanded field.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Truthfully, I guess, Sean, I don't mind the expanded field.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: It's just if you add if you have 24 teams, it's a different sport than what it used to be.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: That's fine.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: I do think it would be interesting to have a legit playoff system with 24 teams, with several teams in different conferences competing, etc.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: It's just very different from what we've ever seen before in college football.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Of course, the whole playoff system has been that way.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: 24 really feels like you're playing a different sport, but you would have to maybe shrink your expectations on some of these bottom playoff teams.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Some of them are gonna have four losses, maybe.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: So maybe it's just maybe it's just way of way of change that people have to get used to.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do think it's a good point that the sport's going to look different.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: The fact that it's a one-game knockout tournament now, similar to the NCAA tournament, I think it's gonna create some more variability in the outcomes.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: And football's not as unpredictable of a sport as basketball because there is such a thing.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Jimmies and Joes beat X's and O's, and in football, there's weight discrepancies and athletic attributes that contribute to those performances.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: So I can see situations where in a 2014 playoff, we get a couple of games like we saw the first year of the 12-team playoff that were just non-competitive blowouts.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: I can certainly see that.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: I don't think this year we would experience that, but there will be years where that's the case.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: I think the thing that you also touched on that we're gonna have to rework our brains a little bit.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: We talk about there's gonna be three loss teams in the 12-team playoff this year.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: I think multiple.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: If you just look at how the SEC is playing out, I don't see too many teams getting out of there unscathed with just two losses.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: It seems like a lot of good teams are gonna end up with three.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: How we're able to distinguish between those three lost teams as to who gets in is going to be interesting.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: And there may be one from the Big Ten as well, who knows?
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: But I just think that we're gonna have to rework how we look at these teams' resumes in college football because we're so used to you can't lose a game in the regular season if you want to play the national championship, or you certainly can't lose two.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Well, now the 2014 playoff, you almost see the situation where coaches are gonna be able to manage how their season progresses, and they can lose a game in order to peak at the right time and win those one-game knockouts.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: So, yes, it's a different sport, but I think it also adds an interesting layer and gets more teams in the mix.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I like this more.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Don't get me wrong, it's just different from what college football has always been.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: That's fine.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: It's just gonna be it's just change that you have to get used to.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Teams are gonna be able to schedule more.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Alabama has Ohio State, I think, in a few years for a home and away.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, I want them to cancel that game because like, who cares?
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Like, if you win, great.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Um, it's a great win.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: But then you have Tennessee, A and LSU, uh, Albert and the Iron Bowl, too, eventually, where those games could go either way a lot of times.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: So that's great.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: You get Ohio, you might beat Ohio State early the season, but the rest of the schedule catches up to you.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: So it is good that teams are going to be able to schedule.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: You have room to grow too.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: A loss or two doesn't kill your chances.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the thing Lane Kiffin has been harping on.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: The fact that the SEC, when they went to nine league games, they needed to add more teams to the playoff because you're going to take more lumps in the SEC than you would if you're an ACC team and the records on paper might look like 11-1 versus 9-3, but that nine and three might be a more impressive resume than the 11-1, just given the nature of their opponents.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: I do think we'll shift how we're thinking about this.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: In a few years, we'll get used to it and it'll be exciting.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: In terms of games this weekend, Jeremy, there's not a ton that stick out.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: It's one of those weekends, it's Halloween on Saturday.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: I think it's a good time to get into a scary movie, let the kids trick-or-treat.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Maybe if you're a social butterfly like yourself, Jerry, get yourself to a party, have a little bit of fun.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: But I will warn everyone, there will be a game that surprises people.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: I don't, I'm not able to pinpoint which one it'll be yet, but there will be one.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's Ohio State going on the road to USC with the backup quarterback.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: We'll see how that looks.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Now, USC, I think, would have a hard time tackling this podcast, but I think there will be something this weekend in the way of an upset that we'll have to talk about next week.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, my Ava's a nice quarterback too.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: It it really is crazy.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you want to get into this too much, but Ohio State's backup quarterback situation.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: That's wild.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, in some ways I get it, like you really put everything in Julian Saiyan, but how do you have nothing behind him really ready to go?
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: I couldn't understand the height discrepancy with the backup because Julian Saiyan's a pretty small guy.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: He's small.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: He's on the smaller side, yeah.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: It looked like they brought in one of Santa's elves.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: It was insanity.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: I couldn't believe my eyes.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: I was like, whoa, that can't be Ohio State's backup.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: But then apparently they have another, they have like the number two overall player in a recruiting class on their roster as well, but he's not ready to go yet.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: But it's going to be fascinating.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: I think that's the big story the next few weeks is how can Ohio State survive.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: They could take on another loss.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: They can't afford to take on two or three more.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: So we'll see what the backup situation looks like at Ohio State and how long Saiyan's out.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: It's been tough too.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: We lost Camario Taylor for the season yesterday.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: He announced that it seemed like he's going to come back to Mississippi State next year.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: But he was pretty steadfast in that he loved it and that's home to him.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: And I hate people like you trying to get him in the portal, you and Coach Saban.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: I think that's gross behavior.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: But it stinks that we're seeing not only him, Dante Moore, and Oregon hasn't lived up to expectations this year either, but that once heralded quarterback class has flung away every week now.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Arch Manning too might not even declare for the draft, possibly.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: I still think there's a lot of talent of the quarterback position going into the draft, but not as promising as we thought a few weeks ago, a few months ago, preseason two.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: And if I was Arch's advisor, I would probably advise him if we're gonna go back to college, we just can't run it back with Steve Sarkeesh.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just go somewhere else.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, or or tell Texas, hey, he needs to go somewhere else too, because I could be talked into that.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: If you really it's crazy too, because Sark's like a pretty good offensive coach, and it just they've had success, but yikes, they just haven't really developed Arch.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Maybe he's also just not as good as we thought.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: We do, it's a chicken or the egg situation.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: We need a 30 for 30, determining did Sarkeesian turn into a pretty bad coach, or is Arch just a dud?
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: And I don't think Arch is all bad.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: There's NFL scouts that say they watch the tape and they say he still has the best tape in terms of his highs out of anybody in the country.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: And you could see that in some games.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: He'll stand in the pocket, get absolutely crushed, and throw a 60-yard strike downfield right on the money, and you're like, oh, there it is.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: But then he'll do some baffling stuff like the interceptions he throws, and you're like, oh god, why is he not getting rid of those from his game yet?
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: That's a fascinating story.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: We'll be on the lookout for any upsets this week in college football, Jared, but we have to move on to the NFL.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: I first order business, I have to issue a hand up.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: I hate doing it.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: I do it frequently on here because I am a clown, but I have to apologize on behalf of the Houston Texans.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Not only did I believe in them to start the season, I doubled down a few weeks back.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I believe Michael Blum did with me.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: We we bought some Texans stock.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: They they stink.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: I can't get over how bad their defense is.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: I it's jarring to me that a D'Amico Ryan's coach team has a defense that bad, but they do.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: I apologize to the listeners.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: I will try my best not to let it happen again.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: And while we're at it, I think I need to issue a partial apology about your Philadelphia Eagles as well.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: We did a wins pool draft, which I'm in the lead on, and my first two picks were the Texans and Eagles.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: So kind of a disaster for me.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: The rest of the picks, obviously great, but boy, what is going on with your Eagles, Jair.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Should they be sellers at the deadline this year?
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: You don't have to partially apologize for the Eagles, Sean.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: You can fully apologize.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Bad team.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Should they be sellers?
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: But they have to be strategic.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: The calm picks that you're looking at, guys like Moro Ojimo, who you'll probably get a third-round pick.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: If you trade him, you'd probably have to get more than that.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you will right now.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: He's also last few weeks hasn't played amazingly.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: Guys like Rek Wollen would have been a great trade candidate.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: He might have had the worst game ever.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Monday night football against the Cowboys.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: I don't know what you're gonna get for him.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Saquon Barkley, injured.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: I think they're gonna shut him down for a few weeks.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you can trade him.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: And that would suck too.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: Like, I love Saquon.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: You sort of knew like taking in Saquon after the Giants years, he is at that position, at his age, with his injury history.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: It would just suck if they trade him at the deadline after his first season in Philly, that historic season, Super Bowl season.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: I'd get it, but it would suck.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you can with this injury.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: So should the Eagles be sellers?
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, absolutely.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: This team sucks.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: I've never seen an injury list like this, Sean.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: They're up to their eighth running back, I think, with your guy, Elijah Mitchell, who I didn't know was still him, him and Amir Abdullah didn't know they were still playing in the NFL.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: They are.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: I didn't know the name Elijah Mitchell, and if I did know it, I forgot it.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, couldn't tell you a thing about him.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let me.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you one thing.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: You got three touches in an NFL game last night.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: Uh just dreadful.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: You're saying the Eagles should be sellers, but you're not sure what they have to sell.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know if people want the what we're selling right now because of injuries, especially.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: There's been some talk about the level of which the Eagles will sell at the deadline, and people have mentioned guys like Devontae Smith.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: And I don't see him being a guy that's tradable for the Eagles.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: He seems like a franchise cornerstone.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Even if the timeline's starting to not make the most sense, if there is a rebuild, I think it's more of a retooling for the Eagles, and I think Howie will probably see it the same way.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: I don't envision the Eagles being bad for long, at least not in their minds.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: I think they would like to retool this group and get back to it next year, which leads me to my big question for you, Jared.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: Next season, they get healthy the rest of this year, they have a good offseason, they make some moves to regroup this squad and get them ready for war again.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Do you want Coach Nick Siriani on the sidelines leading the Eagles into the 2027 season?
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: It's a good question, Sean.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: I like Nick.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Nick's my guy.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: He's he is a definition of a Philly guy.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Like he sort of define him as a Philly guy.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: He acts like a Philadelphia guy all the time.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: He chirps officials.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: He gets uh he gets hype.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Like this is this guy spiritually was born in South Philadelphia and never moved.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: I like Nick.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: He's won like 70% of his games before this season in Philly.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Um, they've, of course, they've just won at such high levels with him.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: Talented teams.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: I think he's a very good leader.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: He hasn't done a great job this year.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: I can't sugarcoat that.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: He also has had a lot of injuries, but the times that he has been in big moments, he just hasn't coached well.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: I would still see the see him a part of the future next year.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Give him another chance.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: I think that we've done this before where we won a Super Bowl with Doug Pearson and then we fired him two years later.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: And at a certain point, the system doesn't allow head coaches to flourish long term if there's a little bit of a hiccup.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Saw with Doug, we're seeing it with Siriani, I think.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: And it's the way Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Laurie operate, where they don't really want they can't want a yes minute at head coach.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: They got it with Sirianni.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: I'd run it back with him.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: I just don't want another coach.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: When it's good, it's very good here.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: And I don't want to have to try to find that again with someone else.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Do I think they'd be successful?
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Sure, but like keep him keeping on going down the coaching tree.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's an interesting question because I've never been a huge Siriani guy, but I can acknowledge he's been a good NFL coach.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: His his win percentage speaks for itself.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: Now, Dan Rowski doesn't know what a percentage is, but that's a conversation for a different day.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you saw this.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: He was stunned.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: He did not know that a percentage was out of 100.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: He just didn't know.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: So that guy's working on every every show on ESPN.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: But I think the thing with Sirianni is he has proven he's a good leader when he has the most talented roster in the NFL, and he's able to accomplish great things with that.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: And my question is, how many coaches would have won a Super Bowl with that Eagles group?
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: And I don't think Nick Siriani is unique in that.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: I think there's if he was able to do it, I think there's going to be a good group of coaches that were able to get the job done with that roster that they had.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: That's what leads me to ask some questions about him.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: And I would have liked to have seen this season when handling some adversity and not having the most talented team on the field every week, how does he elevate the group of players that are in front of him?
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: And I just haven't seen that.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: And maybe it's because he doesn't call plays or isn't specific to one side of the ball, and maybe it's because I'm not a diehard fan in the ways that he's operating this group.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: But I just haven't seen that part of him.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: But I also am with you, if they get the roster in a good space for next season, I think he could lead them to being successful again.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: So I think it's a hard problem that the Eagles actually have in front of them.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: It's not the end of the world type problem because if you keep them, you're going to be fine.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: And if you don't, it's a it's a bit of a risk.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: It's not a sure thing that the guy who comes in is better than him.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Although there's probably going to be some good coaches on the market, especially if you're one of the first ones to the open coach market.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: And it's an attractive job with an ownership group that always invests and wants to win.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: So it's an interesting dilemma.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: I'm fascinated by it.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry for my my little brother Eagles fans.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: It is tough this year.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: We'll carry the weight of the state on our backs this year.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: We've got the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in good hands, Jared.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Sean.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: I don't have anything to fight back on.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's it's it's right.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: So you can't argue with that.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: I will say we do play in Philadelphia in a couple weeks.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: We will probably lose that game.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: We don't win in Philadelphia.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: And no one wins when the family feuds, Jarrell.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: So I would I would like it if Little Bros just laid down for us in that one.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: Maybe make sure Tanner McKee's fresh and ready to go.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: That would be that would be nice.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: We have to talk about a team in the NFC, though, that is doing the opposite of the Eagles.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: They are absolutely outperforming expectations.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: The Vikings are the lone undefeated team in the NFL.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: But JJ McCarthy might have been their best quarterback option.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: It's a weird situation we find ourselves in.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Let's start with this.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Do you believe the Vikings are in the upper echelon of the NFC teams?
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: No, Sean.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Uh they're undefeated.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Every year you sort of have one team that's undefeated, and they probably shouldn't be.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: I think the Vikings were a few years ago.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: I forget what year, but they were sort of in a similar situation.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: That that Steelers team, I think during COVID, was it that you guys went like 10 or 11?
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: No.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: That was that team was kind of similar to that.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Eagles, I guess 2023, although they're coming off as a Super Bowl loss, but to some degree, they were kind of similar to that.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Um I'll do I'll be positive enough.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Vikings defense is unbelievable and really special.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: I don't really have that much faith in Kyler Murray to stay healthy, to play well.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: And that I I feel bad for because he does he played well early on in Arizona.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: I think he can play well in Minnesota.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: I just I I wouldn't bet on him to lead a team to ultimately what they're looking for, their first Super Bowl championship in franchise history.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: So uh I don't believe in them.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: Brian Flores has done a great job with that defense, of course.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: I give no credit.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: I think they can make some noise, but realistically, championship-wise, I'm not I'm not giving them credit, but it could age well.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: I've I've I've been on this podcast before, Sean, once or twice and said something pretty uh high stakes like this, and it went the other way.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: So maybe this is what you want to hear if you're from the great state of uh Minnesota.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're a fascinating group because I'm with you.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: I don't think they're up there with the best teams in the NFC.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: If we're up to me, I would still take the Seahawks, the 49ers, I would even take a couple teams in their own division.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: I definitely would take the Bears and I'd give a hard look at the Lions, even though they can't they can't stop anybody, but they're kind of the inverse of the Vikings, and so are the Buffalo Bills and the AFC.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: It's their offense is spectacular and their defense can't cover a soul.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: And the Vikings, it's they're all ugly games to watch.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: The the defense, they blitz the shit out of you.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: It's a nightmare, I'm sure, to play against.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: But then offensively, we have this quarterback whisperer, Kevin O'Connell.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: What is he whispering to these guys?
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: I'm not so sure what he's whispering.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: And he might have gotten it wrong with JJ McCarthy as well.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: They invested in him, a first round pick, and then they ship him off to New York.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: It's an it's a small sample size of New York, but he looks to at least be a very competent NFL quarterback.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: He might not be a world beater, but he's competent.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: I think the Vikings have bigger issues outside of Kyler, too.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: They can't run the ball on their lines.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Good, so it's not like they're setting up Kyler for success.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: But you would have liked to see with an offensive-minded coach like O'Connell them be further along on the offensive side of the ball at this point in the season.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: So I'm with you, I don't think they're in that elite tier in the NFC, but I do think they're a very respectable team that you need to really prepare for, else you're gonna get embarrassed with their blitz scheme on defense.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: Uh on the JJ McCarthy topic though, Jair.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Can the Giants win the NFC East with JJ McCarthy?
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: So, yes, because the NFC East is awful, Sean.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: No, if the if the division was a little better.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: I still like the Cowboys more uh in that division to win it.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Their defense is awful.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, their their defense is worse than last year's, and Dallas's defense was awful last year, and their offense this year isn't anywhere close to being top five like it was last year.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe they found themselves in Philadelphia uh this week.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: I love Troy Inkman in post-game.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: He was asked if this is a turning point for Dallas.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: He goes, he goes along the lines, honestly, probably not.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: Philly's just pretty bad.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: Um I was like, you know, that's probably true.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: I do have faith, like maybe they figured out the run game with uh Javante Williams.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: They have great receivers, of course.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Dak can play pretty solid football too, especially when he has a run game.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: I think the Giants are playing good football.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: They haven't played good teams, though.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: I want to see more of them.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: But can they win the division?
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, the NFC is just trash, it's just really bad.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: So yeah, they they have a head start right now, seven weeks in, and we'll see where that entails.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I am with you.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: They could do it.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: I I don't think it's uh a ringing endorsement of the division by any means, but I also think it's kind of a two-horse race.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Not a lot of people are talking about the commanders, and I think that's probably for good reason.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: It kind of feels like they're just also a nightmare, and they're not dealing with nearly as many injuries, but now they've lost Terry McLaren and Dan Quinn.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: I I don't know what's going on with him.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm shocked he's still a coach after some of these blunders they have on the houses.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: But I scratch them off as well, and maybe they're still frisky and they'll hang around for a few more weeks, but I really do think it's between the Giants and Cowboys.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: The Giants have beaten the Cowboys and have a better record to start the year.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: So they do certainly have a leg up, but that division will be a first-round exit from the playoffs.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure we agree on that, at least.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the fact that we're even dubbing the Giants having a chance with a division, I'm not even totally set on, honestly.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: So if we're talking if they if they do make the playoffs, first round exit, no doubt.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: Jar, I wanted to do a little segment.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: I wanted to rank the top five coach and quarterback combos in the NFL.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: So we're not factoring in anything else, just starting quarterback and head ball coach, and how you would rank your top five.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: We do this in the playoffs.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: I have the rule of 30, which I did last year, I think with you, and I include defenses in this as well.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: And that gives you a good picture, I think, of who's gonna win the Super Bowl.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Usually pretty accurate model is proprietary.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: We'll get into that at come playoff time.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: This does not include defenses at all.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: This is your head coach and your quarterback.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: How much do you trust these guys for this season?
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: So from this moment forward, that's what we're ranking.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Jared, we're gonna start from five to one.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: We'll go back and forth.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: Tell me who's your fifth quarterback coach combo.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Just want to preface this, Sean.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: I might be missing someone.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: I try to do this quickly if I'm missing someone, but I I think it's a good five.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: I'll start off with five.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: This could be changed.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: I will say Mike Vrabel and Drake May.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they went to the Super Bowl last year.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: I don't love the team this year, but I I guess the team is still good, I think.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Not great.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: They have the success from last year that I think that could help them if they get a wild card spot because I don't think they're gonna surpass the Bills.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they were an honorable mention for me.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: I had them right on the cutting room floor.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: They were certainly in the mix.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: I think it's a good, a good group.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: I just think both of them are really good and solid.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know if they have the elite.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know if Drake May is a top three or five guy at his position, and I don't know if Rabel is either, but they're both very good.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: And that leads to a good grouping overall.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: So for my fifth Jair, I went same division and a little bit of a scary one because the coach is unproven.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: But I went for Josh Allen and Joe Brady.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: And it's just because of how good Josh is, really, and the fact that there is some continuity with Joe Brady calling plays.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: You know what that looks like.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: If they can figure it out on defense, they would be everybody's pick to win the Super Bowl.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: The problem is they have never figured it out on defense with Josh Allen as their quarterback.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: So for this segment, that doesn't matter.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: We're talking coach and quarterback.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: So I put them in the top five.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: I've gone those two from the Buffalo Bills fifth.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Let's start with number four.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: That's who I have at number four.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Solely because I like the it's a great point in the continuity.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: Uh Brady's been there a good bit.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: He was calling place, he has familiarity with Josh Allen.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Josh Allen is so special, Sean, that he makes in the top five because of who he is.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: He that those two are four for me.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: My fourth chair, and these guys, I can't believe I have them on the list because I've been a notorious hater.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: But I've gone for Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think Shanahan's a genius, and I don't necessarily think Brock Purdy's the best quarterback by any means, but he knows how to run a Kyle Shanahan offense.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: And if you are capable of doing that, you're going to be a playoff team and you're going to be a threat in the playoffs.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: That's what Shanahan's proven throughout his career, at least when they're healthy and not just completely ravaged by injuries.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: This year it seems like they've dealt with injuries, but they're not season enders.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: They're guys that are coming back in the mix and they've started out strong with a good record.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: So it's the best of both worlds for the Niners right now.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: We'll see if that's able to last, but I do just really trust Shanahan calling plays and Purdy not beating himself.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Now I have called him a pumpkin, and I said pumpkins quickly disappear around November and December.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: I do need to be proven wrong on those statements, but I have a decent feeling this year I will be.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: I think Brock Purdy's kind of here to stay, at least for this regular season.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: Brock Purdy before the Atlanta game was favorite to an MVP.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Which now the Atlanta game did happen, and we saw some flashes of December Purdy, which hasn't been pretty.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: But at least I know he's in the MVP conversation, and he has a coach that I don't like Kyle Shanahan, but I can't deny he's a very, very good offensive head player.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: He's an elite play caller.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: He's made really bad quarterbacks look really good in this NFL for a long time.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Yep, completely agree.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: Number three, maybe this is a little too low.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: I don't love the way they're playing so far this year.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: I still think they're a very good team, but I don't think they're as good as last year.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: I will be going with Mike McDonald and Sam Darnold at three.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: I guess if I were to say who I like more in this duo, it's McDonald.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: I think he's a really good coach.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: Last year, of course.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you heard they won the Super Bowl, and it was a great, great year for the defensive-minded head coach for that defense, too.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: Darnold's still playing good football, and I think that they're they're a good duo enough where they've earned it and they're not in my top two, but they're, I think they're worthy of the top five and just recent success.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: I think they'll figure it out.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is this is one I didn't have, Jared, but it's because of what I've seen this year with specifically Darnold.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: I'm on McDonald.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: If this was a coach ranking, I think he'd be 1-1 for me.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: I think he's the best coach in the NFL right now.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: He's at least in the conversation.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: I think he's truly unbelievable.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: I'll shout out Michael Collins.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: He's been on the Mike McDonald bandwagon for a long time, and he was right.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: The issue with Sam Darnold, and similar to Purdy, he has times of year and he gets the spooky around Halloween.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: He sees some ghosts.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: And so far this October, he's seen some ghosts.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: He has made some calamitous errors that have cost him games.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: And the thing is with Darnold, I like Sam Darnold.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: You know that.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: I'm I've always been a Sam Darnold guy.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: More than I mean, last year I would.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: Yes, but I I I've seen some stuff this year that's a little concerning, Jaron.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: Here's why.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: If Sam Darnold has a calm environment with a run game and good protection, Sam Darnold's a really good quarterback.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: I'm confident saying that.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: If if you have a team that's going to be able to run the ball and stay on schedule and not beat themselves, Sam Darnold will look really good.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: The problem is when he's pressured and they can't run the ball and it falls on Sam Darnold's shoulders.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: That's when you see the erratic ghost Sam Darnold that starts to make some mistakes.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: And he's seen some ghosts this year.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: He's throwing some bad picks.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: But I do agree with your point.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: The rest of season, I kind of like where they're trending, especially with the addition of Quentin Nelson on the offensive line.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: I think they'll be able to run the ball better once they get Charbonnet back and Darion Price back in the mix.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: I think the Seattle Seahawks are going to be around for a long time.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: The only reason they're not on this list for me is because of Darnold and not McDonald.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: So a little bit of a tongue twister, but my third ranking Jair, and I'm shocked I have it this low.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: But I've gone for Mahomes and Reed.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: I wow.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just haven't seen enough from them in recent years to trust the two of them the most in the NFL.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Now, if you want to give them the lifetime achievement award and say they they deserve that top spot until proven otherwise, completely fine.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: I just don't know with Mahomes and Reed, and maybe it's the pass catching options.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: I keep hearing about how they don't have receivers.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: It seems like it's been an issue for a long time now that they just can't fix.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: They don't look explosive on offense.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: The best part of their offense has been Kenneth Walker.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: And don't get me wrong, I'm not disparaging them by any means.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: They're third out of all 32 teams and who I trust the most for the rest of this season.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: I still think the Chiefs are good.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: I think they're gonna be a hard out.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: I just don't want to give them the top spot anymore.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: And listen, listeners, it's gonna be a little bit bold where I go with my top spot, and you guys might not like it.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: I'm intrigued.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: I don't disagree with the fact that, yeah, Kansas City has not been that special the last few years.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Some are saying the Eagles killed them in Super Bowl 59 would make sense.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: But I definitely I see where you're coming from, where it hasn't been the same for a few years with that team for sure.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: Number two, I have it's tough to put these guys at number two because I think they're really good.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: And this is saying a lot about the quarterback, too.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: I have Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy's at two.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: Shanahan's just such an elite coach.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: Brock Purdy fits the system perfectly.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: I don't, like you said, I would in any other system, I don't know how good Brock Purdy would be.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: I still think he's talented to be an NFL quarterback, but those two, peanut butter and jelly, my goodness, they're a great fit.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah, they've been to a few Super Bowls together.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: I guess not, I guess Purdy wasn't the first one.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: It was uh Garoppolo, but they've had success.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: They won a lot of games.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: The biggest issue they've had is just health over the last few years.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: But those two, they've they've made it work and uh tough loss they had last week, but otherwise, it's been a pretty, pretty formidable, do formidable duo with those guys.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: So that's who I have at my number two duo spot.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm glad you had them on the list too.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: I think they've definitely earned a place somewhere in the top five, and I don't think two's too high at all, honestly.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: So I went in okay, go ahead.
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, is that yeah, I would I I was thinking about putting them at one.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: I didn't ultimately, but I I had them.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: I think you can make a spot for them possibly being one.
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: That's that's a good point.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: They they have been at least so far to start this season.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: I think they've probably been the best.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: So no complaints from me.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: Number two, Jarr, and this is again not a team award.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: This is just coach and quarterback.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: I've gone Matthew Stafford and Sean McVeigh.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: I can't quit them.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: I I don't know why I can't quit them.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: Stafford's made more mistakes this year already than he did in the entirety of last season, which is concerning.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: But I have always been a Matthew Stafford fan.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: I just really think he's great.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: He's fun to watch.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: I've always liked him dating back to his Lions days, so I ride for Stafford.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: And I just think McVeigh is a brilliant, brilliant play caller.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: The problem for the Rams is everything except for those two for me.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: We're seeing the health of some receivers, the health on the defense, Miles Garrett has barely played for them, and then their special teams are an absolute nightmare every year.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: So if there's a knock on Sean McVeigh, it's that we can't figure out the special teams unit.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: I do think the Rams are going to start picking up steam.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: I know they had the hiccup against the Cardinals where I almost had to apologize there.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: But they were in pretty thorough control against the Raiders.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Their schedule does relent a little bit.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: I have a hard time envisioning this team missing the playoffs, but it's a real possibility given how strong the NFC North is as well.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: So just in terms of coach and quarterback, I trust them.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: I don't trust the entire Rams group to do anything special this year because of the elements that have killed them and plagued them the last couple seasons, and that's really special teams and defense.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: So Stafford and McVay, I'm there with you.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: The rest of the boys, I don't know.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Jared, who is your number one coach quarterback combo?
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: Number one for me is Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: I think you can make a case that Andy Reid is the best head coach in football history.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I'd completely make that case, but you know, you can he's up there.
- 35:15unknown: Yeah.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Mahomes could be top three quarterback to ever play in the NFL.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Like you said, I agree that there's sort of been a lull with those guys the last few years.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: I still will take my bet with the Andy Reid offense and Patrick Mahomes at quarterback.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Those are the guys that I trust at one, knowing that it has been a little uneven lately, but I'd still ride with them as the number one duo at head coach and quarterback.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't blame you.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: And honestly, my top three, you probably could have put them in any order and I would have been fine with it.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: My first ranking jar goes to a duo that hasn't been named yet.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: And for me, this is a no-brainer, if you know me.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: This is Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: This is my duo.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: These are who I ride for.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: I truly think Caleb is unbelievable and he's getting better.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: And it's a large testament to Ben Johnson because I think Ben Johnson is a brilliant play caller.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: The only team he seems to not be able to call plays against sometimes is other NFC North opponents, which is a little bit of a concern.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: But they look really, really scary good on offense when Caleb Williams plays.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: I don't know how good their defense will be and how that'll hold up, but that's a topic for a different day.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: I truly believe that this is the group that is the most talented.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: I think we have a talented young coach getting to do it for the first time in the second year of having his team.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: And I think we have a really talented young quarterback getting to flourish in his third year with good weapons and the best play caller in the sport.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: I'm buying all the shares of bear stock that I can.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: I hoped that they would get DeForest Buckner.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: I was hoping they would make that trade.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: Instead, the Niners were able to get him.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: So that's a little bit of a concern because their defense is still worrying to me.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: But if we're just talking coach and quarterback, I don't see a duo with more potential that's already doing it than Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: I like those two a lot.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: I wanted to put them at five.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: I guess where I was hesitant was just because of Caleb's health, which might not be totally fair.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: But listen, those two are pretty good nonetheless, and big fan of Caleb Williams too.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: I like Ben Johnson as well.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: I don't think I should say it's bold to put them at one, but stock-wise, one I think makes a lot of sense, absolutely.
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I'm investing in them.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: And I don't think based on merit it would be them.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: Obviously, you would point to Rita Mahomes and Purdy and Shanahan, but I just think they're already good and they're proving to be good this year, and they could take off to that elite level.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: I think they could come out of the NFC if they improve that defense a little bit, which would be historic for the player.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: So not saying it will happen, but that's the group I want to put my chips into the center of the table for.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: Jar, that should do it for the NFL.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: Just a quick drop the mics update.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: It's been a few weeks since we mentioned the drop the mics.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: It is once again me trying to beat Michael Collins and Mike Blum in a season-long gambling competition.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: Jar, I have to report, absolutely phenomenal picks from all of us.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: We're well above 500.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: The groups are Michael Collins can't lose in college football.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: The last two weeks in college football, he's gone like 9-1 and 7-2.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: He's a great, great college picker.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: They're not very good in the NFL, has been their downfall.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: And I'm just treading water in college.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: I'm a game above 500.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: That's where we like to live.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: That's fine with me.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: But in the NFL, I am absolutely dominating.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: The official records as of right now are the mics are 58 and 49 with a 54.2 win percentage.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: And I am 62 and 50 with a 55.3 win percentage.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: So I have a narrow lead, Jared, but it's going to come down to the wire.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: I know you've invested in me, and I'm trying to do you proud.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: You're doing me proud right now, Sean.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: I put a little more, a little more loot in the in the Sean Boyle picks in the stock, so I'm excited.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: Both good win percentages.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: I feel like for something like this, being over 50% is pretty solid, of course.
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: So take it.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: Not bad.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: It makes sense, though, that uh Blum and Collins are bad at the NFL.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: Blum, of course, is a Titans fan, Collins Eagles fan, so makes kind of a lot of sense, actually.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: That is true.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Jared, the NBA season has also started, which has be been in the news really because of a variety of reasons.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: We've seen some good starts, like our Philadelphia 76ers.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: We've seen some really devastating injuries, which have been tough.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: I guess let's start in Philly.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: Sixers are three and one.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: LeBron's betting in nicely.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: What are your thoughts on the new and improved Sixers so far?
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty happy.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: A lot of talent, a lot of scoring.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: Defensively, I thought they've been decent.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: Like pretty good, which I thought LeBron would fit in.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: He's definitely older, but I thought that he would be a plus on defense.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: Not elite, but at least a plus.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: And the defense has been awesome.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: So that's been great.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: They need bigger bodies, they need rebounding.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: I don't think you're gonna trade for it just yet.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: You have to if you trade for it now, you lose all your assets, and then if they get hurt, you're in trouble.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: Bial market has never really been a viable option for most teams.
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: Everybody loves the idea of the buyout market, and then you see the guys who are bought out, it's just they're not like great options.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: So we'll see.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: I think they make a trade to get a little bigger around the trade deadline.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: And I think the strategy I want to hear from you too, Sean.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: When you have the back-to-backs with Joelle and LeBron, I think it probably makes sense to stagger them instead of play them both in one game and then sit them the others.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: It could, it's it's an interesting debate.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: I think staggering makes sense, but overall, I think the team uh playing good basketball, the Detroit game was definitely a scheduled loss on the back-to-back.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: Uh, but they're playing good basketball.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's been impressive.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: I thought it might be a situation where it takes some time for things to work themselves out with this group.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: And they started off 3-0 before dropping a tough one on in a back-to-back to the Pistons, who are a good team.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Good start to the season for sure.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: I do share some of the same concerns, especially with rim protection without Joel.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Bona is just kind of unreliable as a rebounder.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: I do like some of what he gives you, but then he gives you some disaster moments too, and it's like, oh god, I don't know how far I can trust him.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: They do need to figure out that five-man rotation.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: And especially in the games where Embiid is just not around, they'd need a better option because Bona almost doesn't have a backup, and then it leads to LeBron playing as a center.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: So I like what I've seen defensively.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: I think LeBron gives you just such good organization and basketball knowledge that he's able to get the guys in the right spots.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: And he's seen all this stuff before, even probably more so than Nick Nurse, or at least just as much.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: And LeBron's on the court to be able to help with that sort of thing.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: So that's been good.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: I really am there's one piece to this puzzle, Jeremy, that hasn't it's one of those pieces if you're actually doing a puzzle.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: You know it's supposed to go there, you know, and it just won't click in all the way.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: It's just, God, it it's it feels like you're forcing it.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: And that might be Mr.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: Lamb Chop, Jalen Brown.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: I I just don't know what to make of Jalen Brown.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: I've been a Jalen Brown fan.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: I wish the Sixers drafted him over Ben Simmons famously in our group chat.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: I've been a long, long defender of Jalen Brown.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: I really like him.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: I just don't know if his fit's the best.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: And boy, is he a more frustrating player to watch than I remember.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: There's some Jalen Brown shots where you're like, oh God, dude, no, no, no, no, no, don't do that.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, he did it.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: It's one of those.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: So that's I think it'll work itself out, but I think that's been the kink that has been maybe a little bit concerning so far to start the season.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the Jalen Brown's a good point, Sean.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: There are times where he puts his head down and takes over around the rim, under the rim in a tight game.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: It's like, that's awesome.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: And then there are times where he'll do a step back, fade away, off balance, which are just like that have no chance when you're long twos where you're down 10 early in the shot clock, and it's like, God, let's run something, J.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Um violation, he loves an off-arm push.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he only goes right.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's some there's some stuff, but listen, I think Jalen Brown's a good player.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: I think they'll figure it out.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: I think we should also point out there's been a little bit of a beef between him and his old Boston teammate, his cohort, Jason Tatum.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: And you're a Duke guy.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Listen, you you have some Duke basketball allegiance.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Are you taking a side in the Jason Tatum lamb chop debate?
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: Well, Sean, I took a side, and the side I took was lamb chop.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he said, there's no beef, only lamb for context.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: So and some uh gravy too.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: He said Tatum has a great PR team, which I think was the biggest shot of the whole thing.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: That's a that's kind of a shot to me if you say the guy's a great PR team.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: They're beefing.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know what is it just that they both wanted the ball or wanted to be the star of that Celtics team?
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: I don't understand the origin of this story, but I think we're both we're gonna plan our cap or plant our flag in JB's camp, right?
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm I'm I'm always gonna be team JB here.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: It is weird though, and I've always thought this with those two.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: They're the same player in a lot of ways.
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: Bigger wings, both can shoot, both can score at a high rate, both can defend.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: They've both been on the team for basically the same amount of time, and they were both top five picks.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: So like everything about them is like so similar.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: I get like one wanting to be more alpha, so it's a shame in that way, but yeah, I'm gonna take I'm gonna take Jalen Brown in this case.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: Go Sixers.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: I will say, Jalen Brown, we might need to hire ourselves a PR team.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: You have not handled this as well.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: And if I was just a neutral observer, I would probably be Team Tatum because of how he's just handled things in the media, but that goes back to the PR comment.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: So good job by you to point that one out.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: I just think maybe we need to stay lay low on the Twitch for a few weeks.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: Let's not get crazy in any streams or anything.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: Let's just let that be the last of it until we meet the Celtics on the court.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, totally agree.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Enough with the podcasting, enough with the twitching.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: I remember when Paul George had his podcast and then the Sixers lost a billion in a row and he said no more until the offseason.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe maybe no more media, unnecessary media too, for Jalen Brown.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just keep it, just keep it moving forward, JB.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: We have to talk about the Knicks, Jarr, who have started the year horribly.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: A quick hitter, are you worried or no about the Knicks?
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: East is a lot better this year, Sean.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I I'm a little worried, yeah.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: I think they'll obviously they'll surely win one game out of 82, you'd think.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: That's bold because they do play while we're recording, so they they might get their first win while this is out.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: So you might have a little egg on your face.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, possibly.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: But it is funny, it's almost being mid for basically the entire regular season last year in every statistical offensive category showing itself and whatever.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: But I'm a little worried.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: I think they'll figure it out a little bit.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: But it's it there's more competition this year for sure.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think both things might be true.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: I'm not too concerned.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: I think they're gonna face the thing that former champs face where you get every team's best shot, and they they want they they circle that game on the calendar, so there there will be some growing pains with that, and maybe they have a little bit of a hangover.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: Just uh, do we need to go push ourselves?
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: And when you start 0-3, yeah, you need to start pushing yourself.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm monitoring the situation, but I wouldn't say I'm code red, just maybe a code yellow.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: And I I I do not appreciate the the shots that you threw.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: I hate the Knicks, but they deserve that championship.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: They they went out.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, I I said something.
- 46:49SPEAKER_00: I didn't I didn't realize.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: You subtly said it.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: You're clever, you you are clever.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: The other thing, the big news this week in the NBA Jair, some devastating injuries.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: We'll start yes.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: Anthony Edwards is out a couple months, Jaron Jackson Jr.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: is out a couple months, and then the big ones, the Thunder, they lose Kasen Wallace to a labrum terror.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: That's my Kentucky guy.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: I love Kasen.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: He might be out this season.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: We don't know what his status will be, but the biggest injury and the most devastating was the Jalen Williams injury.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: Did you get a chance to see it?
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: I had several group chats talk about in the moment, and I figured it sounded from them, it sounded very similar to Kevin Ware-like injury.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: So I thought getting the update is good enough for me.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I haven't seen it actually.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: Me, I'm in the same boat, Jar.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: We we both got it in the group chat, and then your sicko cousin saw it in the group chat, and then he went and sought it out, and he watched it, Shane, and he reported back, oh, it was gruesome.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: He went and looked for it.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: I couldn't do that.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: I don't want to see it ever.
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: I hope Jay Dub gets right sooner rather than later.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: He'll miss this season, obviously.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: The question then shifts to are the Thunder capable of winning a title without him and potentially Kasen Wallace.
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: They won a lot of games last year without Jay Dub, of course.
- 48:06SPEAKER_00: And then when they got him back in the playoffs, he was sort of in and out, too.
- 48:11SPEAKER_00: It's a pretty talented team, regardless.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: I don't know how long you can keep on doing it without your second best player.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: And so one who's just been so good when healthy for them.
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: I think they can be a good team.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Do I think they could win?
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be hard.
- 48:27SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'll give them a little bit of a chance because like they took it to seven games in the Western Conference Finals against the Spurs last year and probably should have won that series.
- 48:37SPEAKER_00: But, you know, it's another year.
- 48:38SPEAKER_00: This maybe, maybe they can't keep up with this kind of this kind of devastating injuries for Jalen Williams.
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: So I'll give them a chance.
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: They'll have they have a chance.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be very, very hard ultimately.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they have a super deep team, but that's a couple injuries that are gonna be hard to overcome, even with the deepest rosters.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: I do trust Sam Preste to figure something out.
- 48:59SPEAKER_01: I feel like he has a trick up his sleeve always.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: He's just one of the best GMs in the league.
- 49:04SPEAKER_01: So I would bet that the Thunder figure it out, and then it's just a question of can they beat the Spurs?
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: Because I think everybody assumes the Western Conference Finals will probably be running it at back.
- 49:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: You look at guys like AJ Mitchell, Jaron McCain, they have guys, they have a they are they have so many guards too.
- 49:22SPEAKER_00: It's like oh they unbelievable.
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: I remember the Sixers were throwing out uh Kyle Lowry last year early on the season while AJ Mitchell wasn't getting tick for uh Oklahoma City, and not because of talent, because they were so deep.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they have they have they have the GM and Sam Pressi, they have the head coach too, I think.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: Um they'll win, they'll win a lot of games, but can they ultimately keep up with the Spurs?
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: Uh time will tell.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: Long season two to get to that point.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: So I'll maybe they'll make a move.
- 49:51SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 49:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's gonna be one to keep an eye on.
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: We'll continue to update as the NBA season wears along.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: I thought there was just some notable things from the opening couple of weeks that we needed to talk about.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: That's not the only action happening on the hardwood, Jeremy.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: College basketball is back.
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: It starts on Sunday with uh a game for the Pope, which it's a little bit interesting.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: It's in Rome.
- 50:13SPEAKER_01: We're starting the season in Rome with Notre Dame and Villanova on Sunday morning.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: I don't know that I'm signing up to tune into that one, Jared, but I am excited for the season ahead.
- 50:23SPEAKER_01: We'll do some college basketball coverage throughout the season.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: I might turn the Tortured Fans newsletter into a college basketball forum for myself to write about the sport in a more in-depth capacity because I it's probably my favorite American sport, and I don't want to make this show just a college basketball show, so maybe some more content to come in the newsletter on the Substack.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: So look, keep an eye out for that.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: But we have to do our Tortured Fans of the Week, and we're both in this group, Jeremy, and it's college basketball related.
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: It is the Philadelphia Big Five has broken up because Villanova has chosen to leave the Big Five, therefore leaving us as tortured Philly Hoops fans.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: I am gonna give some context on what exactly the Big Five is for our national audience, because I don't necessarily think everybody is familiar with with what it is, but then I want to pick your brain as a Philadelphia resident and get your thoughts on all these things.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: So if you'll allow me, just a quick run through and let me know if I miss anything, Jared.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: But the Big Five is basically the Big Five is a group, there's five schools in the area, Division I schools that have been formed for a long time.
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: It started in 1955.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: It's Penn, St.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: Joe's, Temple, LaSalle, and Villanova.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: The schools play each other each year, and a winner was crowned based on who did the best against those other Big Five teams.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: The last couple of years, the format has changed to include Drexel, and then there was a small tournament of sorts with games played at Xfinity Arena.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: It wasn't a true round robin where everybody played everybody.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: You would play two games, and then based on your results in those, you would either play in the championship or the third place game or the fifth place game or whatever it was.
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: So that was just the last two seasons.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: That's what will be happening this season in the last iteration of that old Big Five.
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: But the news is this past week, Villanova and the Big Five announced that after the 2026-2027 season, Villanova will no longer participate in the Big Five.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: They will return to the traditional round robin format where each team plays each other, but it will be without Villanova.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: Drexel will be slotting in to replace them.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: After this uh announcement came, Chair, we got a press conference from Kevin Willard, Villanova's head coach, who's in his second year at Villanova, and he gives a press conference calling either the readers of the article illiterate or the reporter who broke the news, Jeff Nieberg, for the Inquirer, bad at his job and said that the reporter should talk to the Temple AD as to why they are leaving the Big Five, basically shifting the blame from his school to the Temple AD.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: But the problem with this theory, Jar, is that Temple is still in the Big Five and they are not leaving.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: So that seems to be a hole in Mr.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: Willard's argument.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: He also called the article bad and said the reporter was bad at this job, but didn't really refute anything in the article, basically confirming all those facts were, which was that it was Villanova's choice to leave because of financial reasons.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: Basically, Villanova thought they were better than the rest of the schools in the Big Five on the court and they're a more prestigious program, so that they should not have to travel and play away games where they don't generate any revenue against these smaller Philadelphia schools.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: All of that to say, Jair, they've thrown away a really special tradition.
- 53:47SPEAKER_01: Talk to me about what the Big Five means to you and why has it been so special.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: The Big Five has been awesome.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: And I grew up with it in the later years where maybe it was losing a little bit of a lust, but it was still when I was a kid, it was still pretty cool.
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: Went to all the games different at LaSalle, at Villanova, at Penn for Temple.
- 54:07SPEAKER_00: We always rooted for Temple with family ties and people who worked there growing up, always had season tickets to Temple.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: Never really got to uh Hagen because it was such a small gym that they they they sold that out their fans and with LaSalle.
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: LaSalle was a small gym, but their fans didn't always there were always tickets, I guess, available.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: But it it's a cool, it was a cool thing.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: I mean it still is, but the big five was like it's awesome.
- 54:31SPEAKER_00: It's just a lot of identity coming together, two sides, Philly grit, Philly grind.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: Even if you have two different schools that are different, you still sort of have the backbone of the city, you know, hard-nosed mentality.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: Um, there's always been such a deep culture uh or basketball culture in the city, Sean, with college hoops.
- 54:51SPEAKER_00: And that's because of the big five.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: It's just such a rich history of Division I schools that have been similar in talent for the most part, that have been in such close proximity, too.
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: And it's been an awesome rivalry that a lot of different cities and states obviously don't have.
- 55:07SPEAKER_00: It's bigger than just a few teams being bad and a few teams being a lot better.
- 55:13SPEAKER_00: It's like it's just like an identity of the city in college basketball uh for Philadelphia.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: And it's like a shame that Villnova's not bigger than it.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: They never have been, they never will be.
- 55:24SPEAKER_00: Villanova hasn't been good at college basketball for several years now.
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: In fact, we're a laughing stock, not necessarily last year, but you know, two years before that.
- 55:35SPEAKER_00: They haven't done anything.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: So it's crazy that it's come to this point.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: It's sad.
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: Yes, I can admit that it's it isn't what it once used to be.
- 55:43SPEAKER_00: That's kind of what college sports too has been as a whole, um, where popularity I think has gone down with college athletics, still very popular in a lot of ways, but I think as a whole, college athletics has gone down in popularity.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: Big five, certainly, no doubt similar, but it's just bigger than it's bigger than ratings, money, and it's sad that Villanova is leaving.
- 56:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, basically, Villanova wanted to play the big five games on their terms.
- 56:11SPEAKER_01: They wanted them to be at home, and they wanted that to be determined by the net ranking of the big five teams from the previous year, knowing full well that their net ranking would never be in the bottom two or three in the big five just because of the conference they play in and the financial resources that they have available to their program.
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: Deservedly so because of how they've elevated that program in recent years and separated from the pack in the big five.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: But that doesn't mean that they are better than the big five because they've had a good run of success.
- 56:38SPEAKER_01: And the thing for me, Jarr, is if Jay Wright was the coach at Villanova, this would never happen.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: And I detested Jay Wright, okay?
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: God, he was good looking, he won all the damn time, he he had this air of confidence that you you just kind of wanted to be him almost.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: It was jealousy for sure on me, and I'm a temple diehard, so yeah, I hated J.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: Wright's guts.
- 57:03SPEAKER_01: But he's a proper man and a proper ball coach, and he would have never allowed something like this to happen.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: And if his administration had forced him to, he'd handle it with class and grace, which is something that Kevin Willard did not do.
- 57:17SPEAKER_01: Willard is a rat who also, throughout Willard's career, he got to Seton Hall and he canceled a 90-year-long rivalry with St.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: Peter's because it didn't fit what Kevin Willard wanted to do.
- 57:31SPEAKER_01: I know this decision was made by the entire athletic department.
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: It's not down to one man, but that one man could share a little bit of dignity and grace and remorse in his statements instead of being a stubborn asshole, which is what Kevin Willard proves to be time and time and time again.
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: He's a weasel for getting on the microphone and attacking the reporter, and speaking on the big five in a way that he was a lifelong expert.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: I'm not Mr.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: Philadelphia basketball, but I have years of experience of being a fan of Philadelphia basketball longer than Mr.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: Willard, who's been there a season.
- 58:04SPEAKER_01: He doesn't have a clue about basketball in Philadelphia.
- 58:08SPEAKER_01: He hasn't had a cup of coffee in the city in his life.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: So who is he to get on the microphone and preach to the people of Philadelphia what the Big Five is, what the Big Five should be, and how the terms should be dictated?
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: He's an absolute asshole.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: I I can't say it enough that I can't stand this man.
- 58:27SPEAKER_01: He is a complete CU next Tuesday, Jarr.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: I won't use the word, but he's a CU next Tuesday.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: I can't stand him as a person.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: And maybe he's the one who's bearing the brunt of this because he was the spokesperson for the university.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: He didn't show an ounce of remorse when the big five died, and he took his chips and left the table because they think they're too good for the rest of us.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: Fuck Villanova forever and always.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: It does feel like that was beautiful, by the way.
- 58:56SPEAKER_00: It does feel like he was the leading cause.
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: I guess we don't have all the information, but like it feels like a lot of it was from him.
- 59:03SPEAKER_00: And I also just want to make a point.
- 59:05SPEAKER_00: The big East, the conference that Villanova's in, not a good conference, college basketball-wise.
- 59:11SPEAKER_00: Yukon, great.
- 59:12SPEAKER_00: St.
- 59:13SPEAKER_00: John's, very good.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they're great, but you know.
- 59:17SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 59:19SPEAKER_00: What I mean after that, we're looking at Nova, Seton Hall.
- 59:24SPEAKER_00: Those are the only four teams that were 500 or above in the Big East last year in conference play Sean.
- 59:30SPEAKER_00: And Seton Hall was a perfect 10 and 10.
- 59:33SPEAKER_00: So it wasn't like they had a they were over, you know, 500.
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: I say that because like it's stop looking at the big five when your own conference itself in the big east is dreadful.
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: This dreadful, it's been dreadful for years, and like you can afford to add in a few Philly games in like the Big Five instead of just parading Georgetown, Xavier, Providence, Butler, Marquette.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: I get that you have to play them because of the conference, but like you're playing bottom feeders for most of your league games in the season.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_00: Give me a break of being holier than thou for the big five and those uh rich history tradition for decades and decades.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: And you know what else, too?
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: I don't usually get along with Villanova fans.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_01: They're usually not my particular cup of tea.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_01: But on a human level, a lot of Villanova fans are echoing similar sentiments about wanting to continue playing in the Big Five because they understand what the history of it entails.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_01: But the decision makers at Villanova, whether that's Willard or the athletic department, decided to choose profit and money over history and heritage.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_01: And that's fine.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_01: Take your talents.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_01: You guys are 40 miles outside the city anyway.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_01: Enjoy the main line.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_01: Don't ever step foot in city limits.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: Don't use fucking city hall and one graphic.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_01: Don't use anything Philadelphia themed in any of your branding.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_01: You guys quit on Philadelphia.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: You snuffed your nose up at it and said we're too good for it.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_01: Enjoy your beautiful campus and Radner, wherever the fuck it is.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_01: I I don't I don't want to talk about Villanova anymore.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_01: I hate this university chair.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_01: And yes, I already admitted a lot of it comes from they've turned into a program I want Temple to be.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: But it doesn't take away from the fact that Temple is a Philadelphia school.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_01: Temple wants to play in the Big Five, Temple is continuing to play in the Big Five.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_01: And you know what?
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_01: I'm liking this new iteration better.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_01: It's quite easy to get from game to game.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_01: You know how easy it is to get to Drexel's campus?
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: Take the subway.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_01: What do you have to do to Villanova?
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: Jump on the school and let me tell you.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_01: That day.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_00: Rush hour, nightmare.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, month of Sundays.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I I think that's it because it's just another thing that's getting thrown away in the current landscape of college sports.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: And there's examples of this throughout the country with conference realignment and rivalry games dying and things like that.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: But the Big Five was special to us, so I did want to make sure our Torture Fans of the Week focused on that.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_01: Jared, let's wrap up the show.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: It's been a long one, it's been a fun one, but it's Halloween Saturday.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_01: We've got a couple Halloween-related questions.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: I've seen this in recent weeks, Jared, I have to ask you.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: There were people going door to door two Saturdays before Halloween asking for candy, trick-or-treating.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: And apparently there were some signs posted in the neighborhood that we're trick-or-treating on this date instead of Halloween for some reason.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: Is that fair or foul to just pop up on somebody's door weeks before Halloween, full costume, begging for some candy?
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_00: Steve Bartman, foul, Sean.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_00: This is this is this is just this is this is terrible.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_00: The point of Halloween is you do it on one night because everybody's doing it.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: People don't need a script, they don't need to know when they're on call, when when when they aren't.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: Everybody knows it's just the 31st.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_00: You're present, you're available, everybody can sign off on that.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: We can't be available for the entire month of October because the Snyders decided to do Halloween two weeks earlier.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: How can we prepare for that?
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: It's kind of crazy.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: I I don't get I don't get how it's gonna work.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_00: Like the joke's on the people who want to do it early.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_00: I don't I like you're out of luck because people aren't gonna be prepared and ready for it.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: So yeah, good luck with that, I guess.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm I I think it's foul as well.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_01: I think it's crazy.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_01: I I could not believe that that was happening around me.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: I was like, what are we doing?
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: So no more of that, please.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_01: Also, what about trunk retreating, Jared?
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_01: This new thing where we all drive to the same place and pop the trunk and we decorate the trunk a little bit and then hand out candy in a parking lot, trick-or-treating is done in a half hour, and the parents get to booze a little.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: What do we think about that?
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_00: I'm a little intrigued, but ultimately uh miss be on that.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: Anytime, and this is gonna go into my fair foul.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_00: Anytime you make it not about the kids where it's not kid-centric for them for their holiday, I'm probably out on it's a little different and kind of an alternative in some ways, but yeah, I'm out on that.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_00: Let's let's let's let's just be at the house, let's just have a bowl of candy, let's just stick to the hits with that.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: We've been rocking Halloween, the traditions like that for I don't know how many, a hundred years.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_00: No issue there.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: Let's let's keep it going.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, uh, this is a game's gone for me where I I call me old-fashioned.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: Hey, I don't have kids, but we we should be walking some real miles on Halloween night.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: You should earn what you eat.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_01: And you're going door to door, your parents are checking the bag for razors and poison and paying tax.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: You know, your your dad would pay tax and take the Reese's cups and all the good stuff.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_01: But I think that we need to be going door to door.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't care for trunk or treat.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_01: Maybe there's some pros that I'm not seeing, but I'm kind of with you.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_01: Let's let's keep it how it was.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_01: What do you have for Ferrafal?
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_01: And then I have a couple final questions for you.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_00: Fairfal, one thing I've noticed in the social media age, Sean, is that when toddlers dress up, it they they they get costumes, it's it's fun and all.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_00: The parents dress up with them, so like it's a theme.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_00: So like whatever the toddler is, the parents are whatever's related to support the costume.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_01: Do you have fair or foul for you?
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna throw it back to you quick.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, foul.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: It's not about you, it's not about you, parents.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_01: Um I'm sorry.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: I think there's a level of the parent wanting to give the kid some confidence and be there for them and show support.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_01: And the kid's still the star of the show.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_01: Now, if the parent does maraud around and make it about themselves, yes, that's a problem.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: I could certainly see some parents being an issue, but for the most part.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: I think that's cool if the the mom and dad want to dress up to go with their daughter or son, who's the star of the show.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_01: And then it's a it's a cool little family tradition, Jeremy.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_01: I I think that's out of bounds for you to say otherwise.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you this, Sean.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_00: I know a one Dave Boyle would not be partaking in this, and rightfully so.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_00: I think it's kind of cool.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_00: It's cool like the first time, and then everybody doesn't.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_00: It's like, uh, it loses the loss.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_00: So like I do think it's like interesting.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_00: Like the first time I saw it, that's awesome.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_00: And then it's like, oh, there's like 500,000 more of these.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: That I think that there it is a case-by-case basis because there's certainly some parents who are absolutely just gonna make it about themselves and don't put the the main thing, the main thing.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_01: So I'm with you on that front.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_01: Jared, as we wrap up, just a couple quick hitters.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_01: What is the worst candy to receive on Halloween?
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: If you're going door to door, what are you dreading to get?
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_01: And I'm not talking an apple or a pencil or a toothbrush.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_01: I'm talking candy.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_01: Because those people, if you're not a dentist and you're handing out toothbrush, you should go straight to jail.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_01: Right to jail.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_01: And it's bad for business if dentists are handing out toothbrush, I need I say.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_01: I think you should be handing out like milk duds as a dentist.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_00: Well, that was gonna be my candy Sean.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_00: A little foreshadowing.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_00: I don't mind the taste of milk duds.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_00: They're probably not my favorite, but they're okay.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_00: It's it's the it's the side effect.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's it's actually trying to eat the milk duds.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_00: So I'll go milk duds.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's that's up there for me.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_00: I like almond joys, aren't like I like coconut and chocolate.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_00: It's not my favorite, but like some people hate it.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_00: I don't like hate it.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: It's not my favorite, but like, yeah, I'll go milk does.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_01: The almond joy is something I I compare it to Justin Fields.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_01: I keep wanting to like it.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: I keep really giving it a chance and saying, I really want to like it.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_01: I know you have all the tools to be really good.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_01: I love coconut chocolate, I love almond.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_01: And then you see it out there, and it's just it never lives up to what you think it could be.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_01: So I'm with you on almond joy.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: My least favorite chair is those wax sodas, those little bottles of soda where you bite the top off and then drink some poisonous liquid that's inside.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_01: Dude, those things are fucking miserable.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't let if I had kids, I wouldn't let them eat those because there's no way those are healthy in any capacity.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_01: You're eating plastic.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_00: I never, I never had an opportunity, like those were never around the block when I was going trick-or-treating.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_00: The few times that they were, I never opened them, Sean, proper.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_00: Like, I always like ripped open the plastic like it should have opened, and liquid never came out.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_00: I don't know how it worked, I don't know the physics behind it, but I don't know what they taste like.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_00: Because in and that's the that's the design of the product.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_00: Not good.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, poison too.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_01: I think they taste like what those little packets they put in beef jerky would taste like.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_01: I've never eaten those, but I think they have to be the same stuff.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_01: They'll stay good forever.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_01: It's just a misery, it looks miserable.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_01: The other thing, let's flip it.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_01: What's the what's the goat candy?
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_01: What what are you what are you going knocking on the door hoping they have?
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_00: It's not that original.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_00: Reese's is always like chocolate and peanut butter.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_00: What are we doing here?
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_00: I also like, I'll mix it up a little too, and I won't take the 1A.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_00: I liked uh 100,000 bar grand bar.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 100 grand.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_00: Those are good.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_00: Nugan rice wafer, maybe chocolate.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_01: I thought those were pretty good.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_01: 100 grand are good and they're slept on.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_01: I'm with you though.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_01: Reese's is the that's the top dog.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: It always has to be.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_01: It's just it's perfect.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_01: Also, I do enjoy Take Five, which a little off the beaten path, but the pretzel in there, little crunch with that same Reese's peanut butter, it's good stuff.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_01: So happy Halloween to all the listeners.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_01: Hope you enjoy it.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: I enjoy Halloween as a holiday.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_01: I think it ranks quite high on my holiday list, to be honest.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're entering the real peak holiday season, Jared.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_01: These are the three holidays that matter, and then the rest of the holidays are yeah, nice.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_01: We're celebrating, but we really need to soak up Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: So happy Halloween to everybody.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_01: Jeremy, thank you for joining me.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_01: This was a fun one.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_00: This was fun, Sean.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_00: Enjoyed it.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this was great.
