- Ben: Morning, welcome to your short term mental bulletin on the twelfth of August. Now, unless you've been living under a rock of some kind, you may have noticed that there is a solar eclipse happening across Western Europe this evening. where I am in the UK, we only get a ninety-three percent coverage. Definitely still noticeable, but if you're in Spain, some parts of Spain are going to be going fully dark for 76 seconds. Akaruna is one of those places. So just past half past eight tonight in Spanish time, the Moon's shadow crosses the Iberian Peninsula from Galicia to Palma. The Instituto Grafico Nacional calls it the first solar eclipse over the peninsula in more than a century, seventy six seconds of totality at Corona and one hundred and four in Burgos. Spain's Ministry of Economics. expects 446,000 extra visitors this week. A next contribution of 347 million euros. National hotel bookings for August are up almost 18%. But this is the thing that I think really matters. Seitemunder compared stays for the 10th to the 12th of August against this time last year. And in Asturias, bookings are up seventy-six percent and rates are up 85%. In Parma, bookings are up 75% and rates are up 24%. In Valencia, bookings are up 75% and rates are up six. Same event, same week, same country. Three completely different pricing responses. Lighthouse data makes the same point for the other direction. Santiago di Compostela offers near identical viewing to Akaruna and sits at $393 a night, 13% above last year. In Akaruna, 81% of short-term rentals were already booked. In the other eclipse cities, between 53 and 66. This was never a demand problem. Demand lagendered exactly where it was forecast. Amadeos had flight bookings into Bilbao for 366% and Asturias up 292 on the data pulled back in May. So this was the most predictable revenue event in European travel. The IGN published the past and timings and durations years ago, and plenty of inventory still went close to last summer's raid. The good news is Spain gets two more. A total eclipse over Cadiz. Maliga Guenta Amalia on the second of august twenty twenty seven. Morning not sunset, but four minutes and forty eight seconds in Fiunta and totally visible nowhere else in Europe. Then an annular eclipse across the south on the twenty sixth of january twenty twenty eight, and then after that nothing until twenty fifty three. The 2027 calendar is open now. The best revenue events are the ones you can put in a diary two years out. That is your Wednesday bulletin. I'll see you tomorrow. Thank you for watching.
