- 0:03Podcast. Whoa, whoa.
- 0:05Whoa, I am back and thrilled to be back.
- 0:10The roast wasn't too bad this time.
- 0:12It's too bad. It wasn't.
- 0:13It was barely a roast. Yeah, yeah, you savaged my bi lo
- 0:18a bit good episode nevertheless. So thank you for kind of
- 0:22remedying my explanation so to. Speak.
- 0:25But yeah, I was in New York and I feel like the Montreal versus
- 0:32New York bagel debate is is in full effect.
- 0:36What were you guys land on that? Montreal baby.
- 0:39I mean, you gotta go Montreal, obviously, but I will say that I
- 0:42had a New York bagel a few weeks ago and I get it's the only
- 0:45place outside Of Montreal that I would actually call it a bagel.
- 0:48Everywhere else it's like around a tourist shaped bread.
- 0:50You know Of Montreal and New York is where they're actually
- 0:55bagels, and then you could debate which ones better.
- 0:56So so how about this, let me give my intro and then for a
- 1:00little a little thing to spice it up, we can call to action
- 1:04some YouTube comments where people just weigh in.
- 1:06So welcome in to Anger Management, the fantasy hockey
- 1:09podcast with guess who's back, me, Jake, Josh and Kevin.
- 1:14Hello. I'm shady.
- 1:17Today today is our week 7 news and updates and Kevins
- 1:21infamously famous. Would you rather episode we?
- 1:24The best? Part love that it's so spicy and
- 1:28I did not peak, I did not. Peak, allegedly.
- 1:31I swear, I swear, I have no idea what's coming and I'm not even
- 1:34going to look at the screen when he's listening them off.
- 1:37I'm gonna be surprised right then.
- 1:39And. There for the first time.
- 1:40Yeah, seriously. Fake news.
- 1:43I am always surprised, but sometimes I look at them as
- 1:46you're reading them and I'm like, well, I got to think
- 1:48ahead. Well, I'm not looking.
- 1:49Truth comes out biggest scandal in Bangor management history.
- 1:56The would you rather, before they happen?
- 1:58Shame, shame. And one comment.
- 2:01Shame in the comment. And also let us know what's
- 2:05worse between this and Watergate.
- 2:07What's more? Scandalous peak gate.
- 2:13It's true. Like, you know, every single
- 2:15thing that they have in the States for any sort of scandal,
- 2:18they always end it with gate and everything.
- 2:21Deflate gate. Deflate gate.
- 2:23Yeah. It's not even just political,
- 2:25it's all things gate. So peak gate was a peak gate.
- 2:292025 was pretty brutal, but those days are behind us.
- 2:33Follow us on Spotify, Apple Podcast, wherever you get your

- 2:38what you hear. Exactly what, Josh?
- 2:41Just did not one, not 2, not Hamani live.
- 2:44Yeah. For all your Harry Potter fans
- 2:47out. There yes, which I feel at this
- 2:50point if they if they're not with our take it away or Annies,
- 2:52it's yeah and the link to all of our socials is in the link tree
- 2:57in the podcast description, Instagram, TikTok, Discord, big
- 3:01time discord fans. We love it there.
- 3:03You should come join the community.
- 3:05We are super active there. We're super ahead of the game.
- 3:08So what's a good thing that happened recently?
- 3:11Like it was just like someone we recommended way before what you
- 3:15referenced on those things recently.
- 3:17But yeah, no, because it was like walk like that's what I'm
- 3:20saying. Like I, I wasn't like, like I
- 3:23was off my phone for like a minute and then like things
- 3:26happened. And then you referenced in the
- 3:27last episode. So it's like we're one of us of
- 3:31all at all times is super active in the Discord at least.
- 3:34So you are getting news and updates there super frequently.
- 3:38There's a venting channel which is super therapeutic.
- 3:41That's just me by myself in the venting channel talking about
- 3:44Matthew Olivier dropping points on me or or.
- 3:46Hey, I'm the one. I'm the latest victim of Matthew
- 3:49Olivia, OK? Jake is next watch out yeah,
- 3:52seriously, but I do I do want to highlight though, like we we
- 3:55just had our buy low sell high episode that came out a few days
- 3:58ago. So and we had people on YouTube
- 4:00comment like, hey, like I'm looking at the YouTube right now
- 4:03are me yes, 7700 commented that he traded Alex Tuck for Dylan
- 4:08Gunther one for one into the episode.
- 4:11I'm seeing that the one there was a bylaw he was able to pull
- 4:13that off. So I also saw people trade like
- 4:17Nick Euler's 4 for Dylan Gunther.
- 4:21So after a recommendation. So a lot of good moves happening
- 4:23and it's just excited to see that people act on the advice
- 4:26and make some really good trades.
- 4:27Like I'm I get jealous. I'm like, I wish I could have
- 4:29pulled that off. Yeah, I think it was like an
- 4:32Adam Chantilly recommendation. When he got one one, we were on
- 4:35it right away and that's what it was.
- 4:37Yeah, exactly. How can I forget?
- 4:38He's my him and big. I love you.
- 4:42Love. Yeah, some tidbits.
- 4:45Yeah, just in the YouTube comments.
- 4:47Montreal or New York bagels. Very important stuff.
- 4:51Please let us know where you stand.
- 4:52Yeah, we need to. Know if you're indifferent?
- 4:54Just in Montreal, please. Yeah.
- 4:56Exactly. For sometime bias.
- 4:59Boomers. It's gonna be hard to be a Homer
- 5:03now with New Hook Hurt and Dog Hurt and Dobish and W Dobesh.
- 5:09Is wait, what? What happened to that?
- 5:11He's fine. He's totally good.
- 5:15He's just bad and Monty's bad and everybody's bad.
- 5:18And Oh my God, OK, we're gonna dive in some tidbits before
- 5:21Cutting loses his mind. House fans were fine, don't
- 5:24worry. OK, alright, starting off with
- 5:27the big one, Radko Gudas will return to the lineup tonight for
- 5:31the talks. He should be a solid addition in
- 5:33bangers leagues and will be interesting to see how this eats
- 5:35into Trouba's ice time. Because obviously True has been
- 5:37one of the biggest surprises of this fantasy season.
- 5:40And I mean, he's still going to be great, but obviously the
- 5:42points we all know is not going to last and this the less ice
- 5:45time, less bangs, right? So we'll see how this affects
- 5:47him. Yeah, I think Trump is kind of
- 5:49cemented himself into a top four role in the defensive pairing.
- 5:51It feels like he's been so solid with the with the extra
- 5:54deployment. So really curious to see what
- 5:56good is good does if you slot in like on the first pairing or
- 5:59that third pairing. Looks like Michkov is the one
- 6:01that's getting the scratch for goodies.
- 6:03So not that it was relevant beforehand, but just noteworthy
- 6:06nonetheless. There was that one.
- 6:07Was it 2 years ago that one leg stretch of like 2 weeks where he
- 6:09was the goat? They brought him up.
- 6:11He was like the power play quarterback.
- 6:12He did well. We were like alright.
- 6:13And then they drafted like Zellweger, and then they got.
- 6:16And then Jackson come turned into a defenseman.
- 6:20Yeah, yeah, no, lots of fun stuff, but goodness is only 17%
- 6:26owned on Yahoo leagues. I think he's not getting the
- 6:28respect that he usually gets in Bangers league.
- 6:30So I picked him up in our league, which I'm pretty excited
- 6:32about. So go grab him if you need if
- 6:35you need of hits and blocks and the pimps should come as well.
- 6:38Yeah, You know, Trump's two points off is like his milestone
- 6:43from last year. He got 14 points last year, is
- 6:45at 12 at the time. Of this meeting.
- 6:47Nuts. Like, you know, this is
- 6:49obviously a function of insane and he basically played a full
- 6:52season last year, by the way. It was 77, yeah.
- 6:54So maybe he hits 30 points this year, but he's not.
- 6:57He's not. Popular game.
- 7:00Yeah, he's not gonna be a boyfriend.
- 7:01Game yeah it's not like an auto draw or anything but hey like.
- 7:04It's no, no for sure not Yeah, yeah, OK Dougie Hamilton is
- 7:08practicing with the team and should be back sometime this
- 7:10week. Yes, Dougie.
- 7:11Owners rejoice until the next injury.
- 7:14We'll see if he gets properly one over Luke Hughes or over
- 7:17Seaman Nemic who got powerfully one for like a sniff of a of a
- 7:22period or a game or something. Or if they go back to splitting
- 7:24like they were before he got injured.
- 7:26It'll be interesting to see. I definitely the fact that
- 7:28Hughes got demoted for an image while Dougie was gone makes me
- 7:31feel a lot better about Dougie's chances at power play one, if
- 7:34that makes sense. I think what we're about to see,
- 7:37though, the situation for New Jersey is very interesting
- 7:39because, I mean, first of all, image has been really hot.
- 7:42So, yeah, you gotta Hattie, which is nuts from a defenseman.
- 7:45I mean, they were kind of feeding him at some point too.
- 7:47But like, did you guys see the third goal for the hat trick?
- 7:50It was a snipe. I was, I was, I was watching
- 7:53that live. I was like, Oh my God.
- 7:55Anyways, he he looks good. The fact that he already demoted
- 7:58Luke uses first of all, not good for Luke Hughes.
- 8:01I'm really enticed about Dougies Valley coming back.
- 8:03But something to mention, though, keep power plays
- 8:06recently have been a product of like balance between archetypes
- 8:11of feels like that's why we're seeing, you know, Dougie and
- 8:13Timo or Mercer and Luke like it's kind of been a combination
- 8:17of what he likes best. But now with with Jack Hughes
- 8:20hurt actually, that kind of throws a wrench into the plans
- 8:24and we might see a combination that we've never seen before.
- 8:27I'm not putting, I'm not putting a like away from from Kiev to
- 8:31run something crazy, but I feel like we might see more stability
- 8:34now given the the Jacques injury that they're playing around with
- 8:37less pieces and they want to have some kind of consistency
- 8:39there. Yeah, I just, I don't see them
- 8:42like the Nemeth thing, I just don't see it lasting even though
- 8:44he made me crazy just because like how can you pay both Luke
- 8:48Hughes and Hamilton what you're paying them and then playing
- 8:50neither of them on your power play one when both of them like
- 8:52that's their main strength. So I really don't see the image
- 8:55thing lasting. And I think it's going to Doug's
- 8:56gonna have the edge over Luke because Luke didn't really do
- 8:59much with it while he had the chance.
- 9:00By going into the next point you kind of mentioned Jack was
- 9:02injured, his hand eating dinner and we'll be out about 8 weeks.
- 9:05Mercer and Meyer both get to be on par.
- 9:07Play one while he's gone and then it's the defenseman.
- 9:09Yeah, this is just like we were talking for the season started
- 9:12right about like injury prone guys and like we don't like
- 9:15considering it. If it's guys who like it's not a
- 9:17recurring injury and there's nothing like leftover from last
- 9:19year. They're coming in fresh.
- 9:21At what point is someone just cursed?
- 9:22You know there's. There's there's not much we can
- 9:24do. Like he wasn't even on the ice.
- 9:26He. Was even in Arizona.
- 9:28We, we talked about this in the, in the bylaws Ohio episode where
- 9:31like trading Horvat for Jack Hughes was a target that we
- 9:35recorded that literally right before they announced he was
- 9:37going to be out for two months with surgery.
- 9:39Like he must have cut his finger off or something like is that,
- 9:41is that what happened? It was if they did say it's
- 9:44finger and they did say he had to get surgery so.
- 9:46So that's just that's just crazy.
- 9:48But eight weeks without Jack uses is a huge, a huge loss for
- 9:52your fantasy teams. He was probably a first round
- 9:54pick or one of the first picks in the second round in most of
- 9:57your leagues. I think the forwards now on the
- 9:59power player set, though, I think it's I think it's Brat.
- 10:02I think it's Timo. I think it's Heather and I think
- 10:04it's Mercer. So the fact that Timo is kind of
- 10:06staple there now, I feel like we might see Doug.
- 10:08You just roll with this and happy for Josh because he's been
- 10:12holding Dougie on his IR. But yeah, maybe some consistency
- 10:16for New Jersey there really injuries struck right now.
- 10:19They're missing a lot of players even in depth roles.
- 10:21So and shout out to greet Sukho. Might get a look in the top 6
- 10:25now and maybe some opportunities in the near future.
- 10:27I mentioned his name before I'm mentioning it, and he's got a
- 10:30little banger in his archetype as well.
- 10:32Like he he's not opposed to getting a 2 three hits in a
- 10:35game, so if he's playing top 6 minutes, I actually like him as
- 10:37a potential breakout breakout candidate.
- 10:40So in like a week and 1/2 from now, what do we think the top
- 10:43five are going to be on this power play?
- 10:44So I think it's gonna be pretty much what Kevin said in terms of
- 10:47the forwards. Like that's pretty set in stone.
- 10:49The only thing that could upset that is if Stephen Mason has his
- 10:52revenge tour and Bob Soft, either Mercer and Meyer, but
- 10:54like or great Zuke honestly, but I don't see it.
- 10:58I think those four are pretty cemented.
- 10:59And then it's just the question of Duke versus Dougie.
- 11:01They could go back and forth, but kind of like Kevin was
- 11:04saying, like I think they might now have a cemented power play
- 11:07one because of the huge injury and not being able to have, you
- 11:10know, putting both Mercer and Meyer on there.
- 11:12And so I think whichever defenseman gets it, and I'm
- 11:14leaning towards Dougie should run with it.
- 11:16I will say that as a doggie owner, if he gets it and is
- 11:20running with it, I'm looking to sell high.
- 11:22I'm just like, I don't wanna deal.
- 11:23I don't deal with the headache. Even if he keeps it all season,
- 11:25it's the headache of, of he can lose it at any moment.
- 11:27And it's the headache of he's super injury prone.
- 11:29So I will. Defenceman.
- 11:32Yeah. Exactly my my take on this is
- 11:35that he sure and Brad are 100% cemented and I actually crazy
- 11:40enough. I know it's been like all over
- 11:41the place, but I think that Dougie's kind of like the third
- 11:43man up most likely to keep the spot.
- 11:46And then I think it's gonna be between Nemitz and Hughes is
- 11:49going to kind of just be alternating and Mercer and
- 11:51Meyer. That's the way I'm.
- 11:53Thinking it might be two defensemen or you're just saying
- 11:55kind of. Like I think it may be two
- 11:57defensemen because look. Like the rolling 2 defensemen?
- 12:00Nemeth was drafted second overall.
- 12:01Guys right like you. Know the junior numbers.
- 12:05You know, well, you know why, but it's actually important they
- 12:08did that because they were so loaded at offence.
- 12:10They just like gassed up on guys like Cutter.
- 12:13Gotcha. That was this was the slave
- 12:14Kofsky year. Actually, Cooley.
- 12:16Yeah, exactly. So which they could probably
- 12:19use, right? Now, yes, they could.
- 12:21Steak knives are flailing around.
- 12:24And then yeah, apparently, apparently that restaurant is
- 12:27getting bad Yelp review. Yeah, like.
- 12:29That's so beautiful, restaurant cook, no pun intended.
- 12:35So the way I see it is that like, I, I'm, I'm gonna like,
- 12:39I'm not excited about anybody on this power play except for
- 12:41Keisha and Brad as far as stability goes, even though
- 12:43there may be pockets of value here and there for the other
- 12:45people. But are we writing off Nimitz?
- 12:47We think once Dougie's back, like Nemesis, is irrelevant.
- 12:50I mean, it's like not approve it, he's got to prove it, but I
- 12:52don't see why they would put you there.
- 12:54Three goals with a sniper cap it off, yeah.
- 12:58And just like both Dougie and Luke are getting paid while like
- 13:018 mil, something like that. Yeah.
- 13:03So you'd be paying 16 mil for two defensemen not on your first
- 13:06power play unit. That's and they're both
- 13:08offensive defensemen. It's not like you're paying like
- 13:10a slave or something, you know, like you just.
- 13:11Yeah, it doesn't. Make any sense?
- 13:13So listen, they'll do what's best, but they're gonna give the
- 13:15like Dougie didn't lose it because of skill he just got.
- 13:18Exactly. That's it.
- 13:19All right, let's move on because we can talk about this double
- 13:22situation all day. We've got Joey to cord back at
- 13:26practice and should be back within a week or two.
- 13:28He'll take back the starting role.
- 13:29Grubauer. Very exciting for us Joey Decord
- 13:32owners in fantasy. All 5 of you rejoice.
- 13:36There's dozens of us. No, doctor's actually, like,
- 13:40super underrated. I think last year I remember
- 13:42thinking I really wanted him this year, and then I got him.
- 13:45But yeah, he's very underrated. Seattle seems to be very mid
- 13:49this year, but like, I mean that in a positive way.
- 13:51Like, yeah, like, like better than expected I expect them to
- 13:55be. Badly 4th in the division.
- 13:57Sure. I'll give you that.
- 13:58Potentially for the division, so I'll just tie this into the next
- 14:01point and Jared McCann is skating again and could be back
- 14:03within the next two weeks. He should take back line one,
- 14:06power play 1. He bumped Marchman offline one
- 14:08and probably told him from power play 1 and I think that just
- 14:11makes the team a lot better as well.
- 14:12He was off to a really good start to start the season.
- 14:14I like how that affects Jordan Eberly and Maddie Veneers
- 14:16because the three of them were aligned together and we're doing
- 14:18really well to start the season. So as a whole, I'm excited for
- 14:21Seattle with both of these guys coming back potentially in the
- 14:24next week or two. McCann is one of those guys that
- 14:27I feel like is just criminally underrated as like an NHL
- 14:30talent. I feel like the fact that he
- 14:32went to Seattle, he's arguably their best forward when healthy.
- 14:36Yeah, if if he's healthy and playing well, like he has the
- 14:39highest ceiling, he is their best forward.
- 14:41The fact that we forget that is is crazy.
- 14:43For fantasy. He's solid.
- 14:44He's nothing groundbreaking because of the team that he's on
- 14:47in the town that he's surrounded by.
- 14:48But I like him a lot. I like him a lot and I think
- 14:50he's going to help this team. Are you worried at all about
- 14:53this Grubauer who's had like 2 1/2 really good games because he
- 14:57was the worst bully? In I could not be less worried
- 15:00about Phillip Barstein says I will say the only thing that
- 15:02it's not a worry. I think it might actually be
- 15:04better for Joey, But I think that they I think people are
- 15:07saying that the reason he got injured is because they played
- 15:09him like 8 games in a row. And so maybe they'll actually
- 15:11give him a break every like 4 games now because they saw that
- 15:14group hour. You know the reason they were
- 15:15playing him nonstop is the other guys were group power and Matt
- 15:17Murray, right? And they both like.
- 15:19Matt Murray played one game and couldn't finish it and.
- 15:21Then group other than this year has been absolutely awful.
- 15:25So like it makes sense there and of course one of the main
- 15:27reasons they win a lot of their games, right, So make sense.
- 15:29They were just riding with him all the way.
- 15:30But I think the fact is like Jake could speak to this as a
- 15:32goalie, but like I feel like it's such a high level.
- 15:34The NHL just goalies aren't made to play every single game.
- 15:38You know, like even the best ones will get a break after like
- 15:40even halibut gets a break every like 5-6 games, you know, so
- 15:43like it's I think it just takes a toll.
- 15:45And so I could see Grubauer getting one start every like
- 15:47four or five games now, where before he would have gotten only
- 15:50the back to backs. Yeah, which is still like a huge
- 15:53discrepancy, right? It's not like A1A1B at all, No.
- 15:56And yeah, I mean, the days of Marty Brodeur getting like 75
- 15:59stars is not a thing anymore. So crazy.
- 16:02Yeah. So you know what's interesting
- 16:04in this is that at the time of this recording, Seattle is 5th
- 16:09in goals, fourth lowest in goals, 4 per game as a team.
- 16:13So they're scoring the 5th least on average goals against six
- 16:17best. So he's been on monster decor
- 16:20really like this is exactly like what you.
- 16:22Want only on him. What do you mean that I think
- 16:26they're missing? No, but I feel like they're they
- 16:29play a style of hockey that's not like super risky.
- 16:32I feel like it's it's the type of thing that they're going to
- 16:35take what's given, but they're not going to give a lot to the
- 16:37other team. And that's why they're not
- 16:38conceding a lot of a lot of chances.
- 16:39And but the court is also like, amazing.
- 16:41Yeah, no, that's it. And when, you know, come playoff
- 16:44time, you want, I say this a lot, you want like players on
- 16:49teams that are fighting for playoff spots, especially if
- 16:51it's goalies, you know, like you're right.
- 16:54They're they're shut down. He's out of 900 save percentage.
- 16:56It's not that great, but like he's winning games 6, two and
- 16:59three right now. I think that it's it's a really
- 17:02good opportunity to keep him. Like don't drop him, don't panic
- 17:07or anything. And Seattle's not some amazing
- 17:09offensive team. Josh was the highest on them,
- 17:11right? It was, yeah.
- 17:11Josh is the. Highest Kevin was the highest on
- 17:13them was highest on the board. OK.
- 17:15Yeah, exactly. The court is just one of those
- 17:17goalies that is nobody's gonna try to trade for him.
- 17:19Yeah, he's not gonna have any pull in the trade, but if you
- 17:22have him on your roster like he's, he's going to do good for
- 17:24you. So.
- 17:25Yeah, also McCann is there probably their their best player
- 17:30should be like, I mean, I've really been pretty good.
- 17:32But yeah, I really like to cord this year and sticking with the
- 17:36process of like good goalies on teams that are fighting for
- 17:40playoff spots. I think that's like a no
- 17:42brainer. Works 9 times out of 10.
- 17:44Yeah, OK, let's get to the sad news for us Habs fans.
- 17:50So Alex Newhook fractured his ankle and will be out for four
- 17:53months. That's pretty much until
- 17:54playoffs. Big blow for the haves and for
- 17:56him since he was having a career year.
- 17:58To add on to this kitten Guli, turns out that he can't just
- 18:01come rehab without surgery. So he's going to be out for what
- 18:04was another 6 to 8 weeks, something like that.
- 18:06And then to those, that's to the surprise of no one because
- 18:08goalies always a Band-Aid. And then to the surprise of no
- 18:10one again, Kirby Duck is also out for what?
- 18:12Like was it 46 weeks or 6 to 8 weeks?
- 18:14I forget, but either way, I didn't include the details of
- 18:19the other ones because they are not the most fantasy relevant.
- 18:22But in our hearts, you know, or it sucks.
- 18:25It's it's a really rough time. The haves are in a bit of a free
- 18:27fall right now. Power plays looking atrocious.
- 18:30Nothing's really working. I'm pretty sure that I've been
- 18:33reading that Nick Suzuki playing injured.
- 18:36And yeah, so it's just it's not looking good for the Habs right
- 18:39now. I'm not panicking like Kevin was
- 18:41at the start of the episode. I'm panicking.
- 18:43I think we're gonna turn. Also playing like dog waters.
- 18:46So yeah, that doesn't look, I mean, at the end of the day,
- 18:49we're still like second in the division right now.
- 18:51And I know where we were on the down spin right now.
- 18:54But like if you told us at the start of the season that we'd be
- 18:57here this many games into the season, we would have been
- 18:59overjoyed. So I'm not panicking just yet.
- 19:01No, it's just we lost like really good depth, right.
- 19:04So yeah, I think overall the the fantasy thing that I'm taking
- 19:08away from this because most of these guys were not on your
- 19:09fantasy rosters unless you're playing in like a tremendously
- 19:12deep league. Yeah, I think maybe this makes
- 19:16pushes pushes the envelope a little further for the hubs to
- 19:18make a move for some forward depth or a 2C or something.
- 19:22Because all the all the trades usually happen near trade
- 19:25deadline, right. But they're allowed to trade
- 19:28before the trade deadline. If people forget that, it's just
- 19:30nothing really happens because teams are reluctant to trade
- 19:33until they know that they're going to be in the competition
- 19:35or not. So.
- 19:35Do you think Nazim Kadri could be coming to the haves?
- 19:40It's got to be AC, right? And I mean, like the big name
- 19:42everyone wanted in the offseason, that was kind of a
- 19:44stretch was Crosby. But there's no way they're
- 19:46getting he's getting traded if that no Penguins are doing this
- 19:48well. So that kind of takes that out.
- 19:50So. I think they have are gonna
- 19:52wait. I think we'd rather get Crosby
- 19:54than college, obviously so, but we're only getting crossed in
- 19:57your trade deadline if it happens so.
- 19:59I think that at this point, the Penguins are too good.
- 20:01He's not going to move. A lot can change.
- 20:03I mean, if you asked if we could go about how the Habs were
- 20:05doing, would say like, we're making, you know, one of the
- 20:07presidents trophy. And now it's like it's a long
- 20:09season. It's a long way until the trade
- 20:11deadline. But as it stands right now, he's
- 20:13not getting moved. You got cabin and centering that
- 20:16second line. But honestly, he's been good.
- 20:18Has been. Good.
- 20:19But very good. The loss of new Hook is pretty
- 20:21big though. That second line with New Hook,
- 20:23like he really was popping off with the two rookies and so
- 20:25we'll see what happens. But not too much fun.
- 20:27This sucks, but I will say Karpens like the player here
- 20:32that I'm very interested in considering because we have Joe
- 20:36Vellano who is 1/4 liner and Jake Evans who's actually a very
- 20:40good hockey player, but he's never been like he's a fucking
- 20:44line guy bottom 60. Pretty.
- 20:46Much third or fourth line centre.
- 20:47So really the only fantasy implications are, I mean first
- 20:52of all Habs in general are going to be worse.
- 20:53So goalies will get less wins and capping in having the
- 20:57opportunity playing with Bolduc and Demidov, like that's some
- 21:00pretty serious line made potential I will say.
- 21:03Yeah, it'll be interesting to see.
- 21:04It's just it's tough to ever really get too excited about a
- 21:06guy who's not getting that power Play 1 deployment, especially
- 21:09when it's not like an established guy, you know?
- 21:10So a rookie not on power play 1 even though he's been hot to
- 21:13start the season doesn't necessarily translate to fantasy
- 21:15relevance for this year, but keep an eye on for sure.
- 21:20Yeah, Last thing, the only thing I want to mention though, little
- 21:23little tidbit is, is Bolduc, like we've seen him tremendously
- 21:25slow down from what he was doing in the start of the season where
- 21:27he was like scoring every other game.
- 21:29But now like his ice time was fluctuating a lot.
- 21:32Now the fact that we got 2 injuries, we're kind of
- 21:34consolidating into this top six. He's on.
- 21:37He's got one of those spots. He's playing with Dev.
- 21:39He's on that P1 as we speak as they try to find their mojo
- 21:42back. Like he might be the the the
- 21:43only beneficiary in this situation where he's getting a
- 21:46new deployment that's a catalyst for his value.
- 21:48So monitor that and see if he can do something with it.
- 21:51Yeah fully agree. OK, some resigning news to make
- 21:56free agency even more boring this summer.
- 21:58Adrian Kempe was resigned to an 8 * 10.625 mil contract
- 22:02extension with LA. Well deserved.
- 22:04He's by far their best player. And yeah just every single big
- 22:09free agent has not even waited for like 2 months into the
- 22:13season to just be like let's just lock it down and and move
- 22:15on. You know?
- 22:15I think it's definitely the rising cap.
- 22:17Not much to say fantasy wise, but it was, I thought it was
- 22:19worth mentioning. Yeah.
- 22:22OK. Charlie McAvoy, yeah.
- 22:27Don't cold where. Charlie McAvoy took a puck to
- 22:30the face and is out indefinitely.
- 22:32I don't know if you guys watched it, but it was brutal.
- 22:34It didn't look. Really hope he's OK because that
- 22:36looked really, really brutal. Have Island home on power.
- 22:39Play one in his absence. This is not one of those times
- 22:42where I'm rushing to Atlanta home.
- 22:43I don't know about you guys, but I don't know, I, I feel like
- 22:47I'll wait and see. He's definitely like I'll add
- 22:49him to my watchlist. But sometimes like a power play,
- 22:51one quarterback gets injured and you rush to pick up the other.
- 22:53I mean, if it's one of those like, let's say like Bouchard
- 22:55got injured or something, you're rushing to pick up the
- 22:57replacement. You know, if my car got injured,
- 22:59like whatever, you know, here. It's not that because first of
- 23:02all, Lindholm is not necessarily the most fantasy relevant
- 23:04defenseman on his in his own right.
- 23:06And it's not like Boston has the best power play.
- 23:07So something to keep an eye on being too crazy.
- 23:10Like he'll have it for 2-3 games, then Mason Laura is going
- 23:13to get it and they get scratched the next game.
- 23:15Yeah, that's how this is gonna go.
- 23:16This is not a super exciting thing.
- 23:18Yeah, I'm definitely in. Depending how deep your league
- 23:22is. I'm definitely interested in in
- 23:24Lindholm though. Hampus Lindholm, although Elias
- 23:28may be on the come up, but yeah. Speaking of Lynn Holmes on
- 23:32Boston, Ellison home is back skating and could return within
- 23:35the next two weeks. He'll be back at line one power
- 23:37play one when he does. But yeah, back to your your
- 23:39Hampus stuff. Just the Segway was too good.
- 23:42And defensemen, like I think he's a tier above the
- 23:45Klingberg's and whatnot, who are Klingberg potentially getting
- 23:49scratched. So yeah, that's that's another
- 23:51thing in itself. But he's done some, he's had
- 23:54some success with the P1 deployment in the past.
- 23:57I think he'll just shoot a lot and maybe he helps them click.
- 24:00He's just a completely different player from McAvoy.
- 24:02So you're expecting different, different end results.
- 24:04Macavoy is way more of like a facilitator and a zone entry
- 24:07kind of guy. Whereas Lindholm has, I feel
- 24:08like a little more punch to him in terms of like being dangerous
- 24:11with the puck while in the zone. So we'll see how that goes.
- 24:15But I'm monitoring and if you need a defensive stream I do not
- 24:18hate taking a chance on campus and home and seeing how that
- 24:21goes. Yeah, it's never bad to take a
- 24:23shot at one of these power play 1 quarterbacks, right?
- 24:25Even if it's a temporary 1, you never know who might just start
- 24:28clicking. Low risk, high reward.
- 24:30Bingo. The best kind alright.
- 24:33Val Nichushkin is week to week with a lower body injury.
- 24:36Surprise, surprise, Arturi Lucanian takes his spot on power
- 24:40play. One that's obviously huge for
- 24:41Lucanian. Nuka is just always out to
- 24:44something or another at some point in the season.
- 24:46He's so good when he's healthy, but also like lately, his
- 24:50deployment hasn't even been a lock.
- 24:51So for me he was an easy avoid this year and I was shocked at
- 24:54how early he got taken in our draft.
- 24:56Yeah, he still has some named Paul.
- 24:58For sure, but like he's not even guaranteed power play 1 and he
- 25:02has all these issues of like always missing time due to
- 25:04injury or other activities. So yeah, main take away here is
- 25:09if you have like an you're really happy if Luckins
- 25:11available, go snap him up because I'm I'm like, I'm
- 25:15rostering trolls and just because he's on that power play
- 25:171, Lebanon is actually a good player and now he's getting on
- 25:19that power play 1. So, so that's definitely a lot
- 25:22more interesting. And he's playing line one with
- 25:23McKinnon, so that's a huge he's been popping off.
- 25:26Like if you have like an this is an honestly a great opportunity
- 25:29to sell, to sell high. Yeah.
- 25:31So sell them on the deployment, sell them.
- 25:33Look how productive he's been with the deployment.
- 25:35You can probably get a really good name with how good he's
- 25:37been so. Yeah, you may notice a theme
- 25:40with every time we're like, you know, this player you have that
- 25:42you didn't expect to be doing this well, and now he's popping
- 25:44off. Get rid of him now.
- 25:45Like don't enjoy it for someone someone who sucks right now but
- 25:49is actually a better player, you know, so that's kind of how our
- 25:53minds work. And that's how you're always
- 25:54tearing up as as Kevin likes to say, yeah, OK, here's an
- 25:58exciting one. Zach Hyman returns to action and
- 26:01regained line one power play 1. He put up eleven hits and an
- 26:04assist in his first game. If you drafted him late, you're
- 26:07pretty happy right now. We're talking about this in the
- 26:09offseason, right? We're talking about his hits in
- 26:11the playoffs. And he's never really he's been
- 26:13like a one hit a game type of player in the past, which is
- 26:15like still solid, like three shots, one hit.
- 26:17You're super happy with that, the point per game, but like the
- 26:20playoffs, he was going nuts and we're like, is this just because
- 26:22of the higher intensity? Is this the new Heyman?
- 26:24Like what's going on? And look, it, it could be that
- 26:28he goes back to his one hit a game, you know, regular after
- 26:31just being hyped for coming back after so long.
- 26:33But the fact that he put up 11 hits, it just shows that that's
- 26:35his ceiling, and that's an insane ceiling to have.
- 26:38He got 23 minutes that game. That's crazy for a first game
- 26:42back from. Injury.
- 26:43That's nuts, yeah. That's absolutely wild.
- 26:45And then meanwhile, Jack Roslovic still got points.
- 26:49And I know it's because news is out and we say that it's like a
- 26:52huge part of it is power. Play because he was playing
- 26:54against me. That's it, that's it.
- 26:57So we we want him to be playing against Josh all the time, but
- 27:00scientifically, the way to think about this fixing?
- 27:03My glasses. I mean scientifically.
- 27:06I don't think we're also Vic is a drop.
- 27:08As soon as Nude is back, I'm going to maintain that we could
- 27:10get off track with it. Depends how you put it out
- 27:12there. Cuz Hyman coming back, he
- 27:14stapled power play 1. The hits are not sustainable,
- 27:16but I think he's gonna be like a three to four kind of hit guy.
- 27:20That's my take. That being said, that's a lot.
- 27:23Yeah, but not 11. It's not 11, but this just may
- 27:28be his new game. I don't know why you would do
- 27:30that the second he comes back from injury, but you do you,
- 27:33dude. But like, yeah, Jack Rossovich
- 27:36still excited about it. I was gonna say, I remember
- 27:38vividly Jackie talking about this in the off season where he
- 27:41was talking about how physical Hyman was in in the playoffs.
- 27:44And then just kind of like we're trying to, you know, predict
- 27:48what's going to happen in the season.
- 27:50And I remember the offseason Jake was highlighting how like,
- 27:52you know, Hyman was hitting so much.
- 27:53Like maybe we see him, you know, have more of that in his game
- 27:57this season. No, I don't think anybody can
- 27:59foreshadow 11 hits in his first game back.
- 28:02But also we called it put yourself in the shoes or the
- 28:05states of the player, like 11 hits.
- 28:07You have to that's a conscious decision and a lot of effort to
- 28:10just like finish your checks. And like, I feel like it's a lot
- 28:12of energy or exerting. I don't think you can keep that
- 28:15up for so long if you're also supposed to be like a prolific
- 28:18goal scorer and yeah, and whatever, right.
- 28:21So I can see him like maybe he gets 11, then seven, then five,
- 28:24and then he's more like a 2, three hit kind of guy.
- 28:26Yeah, I can see that. Kind of.
- 28:28Yeah, still say you were not expecting that.
- 28:30And it's just kind of like the cherry on top, right.
- 28:31So. Yeah, I mean, the way I see it
- 28:33is like, he got injured right before the Stanley Cup Finals,
- 28:37right? And then he had to watch his
- 28:38team lose. And then he's been rehabbing and
- 28:40it's been taking a lot longer than he expected.
- 28:42And he's just seeing his team gonna get there.
- 28:43Like, Butts whooped, you know? And he's he's like, like, just
- 28:47get and let me out there, you know, like, let me help my team.
- 28:49Like that's the kind of player is, you know, like, yeah,
- 28:51exactly. It's like finally gets out on
- 28:55the ice and he's just like all like jacked up on adrenaline and
- 28:58just hitting everything that moves trying to createspace for
- 28:59McDavid and dry said and all that, you know, so I think
- 29:02that's the type of adrenaline thing that definitely doesn't
- 29:04like you guys said. But he's not gonna stop hitting
- 29:07a guy who does 11 hits, doesn't go to zero hits for game after
- 29:09that. OK, talking about guys who came
- 29:12back and just killed it. Quinn Hughes missed only one
- 29:15game due to injury, but then he came back and got 4 assists.
- 29:17I think he's OK guys. That's my note.
- 29:21Yeah. And obviously bumps Aaronic off
- 29:24power play 1 and makes that whole power play a lot better on
- 29:26the topic of the cannot. Happen.
- 29:28Just just yeah, that's what happens when you don't go to
- 29:30steak restaurants. Bingo.
- 29:31Honestly, honestly, you know, like the you know, like the
- 29:35bubble boy, that's what they need to do to like like the
- 29:38Hughes is during the season. It's like, oh, it's in between
- 29:40game time. Get back in your bubble.
- 29:42You know, honestly they should see if they allowed to just wear
- 29:45it on the ice too once we're added but.
- 29:48Also the petition. Yeah, exactly.
- 29:50But yeah, on the topic of the conducts, Thatcher Demko is out
- 29:53week to week. Kevin Lankinen is the starter
- 29:55while he's gone. I am so shocked this happened.
- 29:57Insert shocked Pikachu face. Seriously.
- 30:05Everybody needs to turn on video so you can that was that was
- 30:12incredible. If any of our discord fans are
- 30:17tech literate I could turn that into a reaction that we can
- 30:19start using. Do it again.
- 30:21Do it again so we'll. We will pick it up.
- 30:29We'll pick it up, yeah. That's so good, yeah.
- 30:31But you know, Lankin and he was really good last year for you
- 30:34and the Canucks are simply just a better team than they were.
- 30:37I'm still not super high on them.
- 30:39I don't know if they're going to be making the playoffs, but
- 30:41they're definitely they were. Last year was embarrassing and
- 30:44you still ended up being good for stretches.
- 30:46So very excited to own him this year.
- 30:48And frankly, when Demco comes back, I mean, I don't see it.
- 30:54I don't see it being impossible that they make.
- 30:55It there's no way that Demko's getting a starters workload
- 30:58after this like. Exactly.
- 30:59It's just he just cannot handle it.
- 31:01And yeah, so I think Lankan is gonna get like 50% of the stats
- 31:05on demo comes back and like 100% of the starts other than back to
- 31:08backs until then. So if you wanna goalie on a
- 31:10middle team, there was a starter and LinkedIn actually is a good
- 31:13goalie or at least has been playing like at the last two
- 31:15seasons, then I'm super happy to pick him.
- 31:17Up. Let me, can I give you some
- 31:18names? Just curious where you're
- 31:19drawing the line in line, because it's not.
- 31:22Actually say no and then like next point.
- 31:26That's that's it. Follow it.
- 31:28Would you? Would you rather Lincoln in or
- 31:30stole ours? Ah.
- 31:34That's a tough one. I think for the season,
- 31:38lacrosse, the season hold. Yeah, like, I mean.
- 31:41Yeah, it's gotta be reason, yeah, right now on IR so.
- 31:45The important part is, is now it's right now like the next,
- 31:48let's say the next month until then comes back or and then take
- 31:51that into account. I mean, next month I'm taking
- 31:53Lincoln installers on IR. Who knows how long he's gonna be
- 31:56out and. Matthews hurt.
- 31:58And Wall just coming back. Yeah, so pick it.
- 32:00Yeah. So let's go, Let's go link it in
- 32:02for that one. Bennington Lankinen.
- 32:05Yeah, OK, so happy to not. I am so happy to not have
- 32:09Bennington on my team. Could Chekov.
- 32:12LinkedIn. Really.
- 32:14OK. I think it check over.
- 32:15There I have no interest in a three goalie situation.
- 32:18I still think he's gonna get the lion's share, but we'll.
- 32:20See What about Jed Greeves? LinkedIn.
- 32:24That would be the judge's holiday blanking Vladar Swamin.
- 32:29Swami would take over Lincoln in, but I would take Lincoln
- 32:31over Var. Agree.
- 32:33OK, so it's kind of just like a low end starter pretty much like
- 32:36what does she loves? It's I'm really curious to see
- 32:40what happens if like like why Mershon off got that start, you
- 32:44know, it wasn't a. Back that got shut.
- 32:45Up, yeah, but it was that Stadium Series where like, you
- 32:48know, they're traveling a lot, so it could be the equivalent of
- 32:50a back-to-back. If she starts like splitting
- 32:52starts with Marshall, then I'd rather have LinkedIn.
- 32:54But if she loves all that has all the stars other than back to
- 32:57backs, then I take she loves. There for sure, because I think
- 33:01she, I think that it's confusing because he was on Vancouver last
- 33:05year. Yeah.
- 33:06That Lankinen is gonna be like the guy for sure over the next
- 33:09little while, and she loves too. But you're right, it's a bit us.
- 33:14OK last thing, let's say your goalie needed team and you have
- 33:16to stream a goalie for the next two weeks.
- 33:18Are you picking up Lankinen, Akira, Schmid, Jed Grieves,
- 33:22Askerov? Like who?
- 33:24Who you prioritizing? Definitely Askerov, but LinkedIn
- 33:28would be second. I'd take him over Schmid or
- 33:30Grieves. Just like a two week sample
- 33:32size, you just need got it. Yeah, yeah, all.
- 33:35Right. OK, talking about goalies,
- 33:37Joseph Wall is starting his first game of the season
- 33:39tonight. Let's see if he can help the
- 33:40free falling Maple Leafs, Right, the ship.
- 33:43Free falling Maple Leaf. You see what I did there?
- 33:47Because it's false. And that too.
- 33:49Anthony is out with the upper body injury, so Wall will be the
- 33:53starter for now. A lot less exciting to be the
- 33:55Leaf starter this year than in years past though.
- 33:58Yeah, Matthews out, especially right now.
- 34:00I don't like this at all. That being said, we expect that
- 34:05the goalies in general, both still ours will always hurt or
- 34:08out, whatever. But at this point, like they're
- 34:10going to be the goal timing is going to be better moving
- 34:12forward. But for right now, I mean,
- 34:15Matthews, even though he's been underperforming, should be the
- 34:17centerpiece of this team. They're going to be likely worse
- 34:20without him. And I don't really, I'm not
- 34:23super excited about owning Wall right now.
- 34:26The only thing I can you know, he could come in and and just
- 34:30kill it, right? I was gonna say that.
- 34:31Does. Yeah, go ahead.
- 34:32Sorry. Kevin No, the only thing that
- 34:34can really like for goalies, like they can really be a
- 34:38catalyst for team success. So like he comes in, he does
- 34:40really well, like it can improve everybody else's playing as
- 34:44well. So that's the only thing maybe
- 34:46you look for when you're looking at the situation.
- 34:48But he's going to be thrown to the wolves right now.
- 34:50They're not really in hot form and he's going to get all the
- 34:52stars because the Lars is hurt, so.
- 34:54Yeah, and on I like Jake mentioned, Austin Matthews is
- 34:57out with a lower body injury. His power play, one spot is
- 34:59getting passed around. Currently Cohen has it.
- 35:01Last game it was Domi. I wouldn't put too much stock in
- 35:03who has it. I don't think it's gonna last.
- 35:05I think they're shuffling it around unless something just
- 35:07absolutely like pops off and the power play starts killing it.
- 35:10I think they're going to keep switching around has that spot
- 35:12until Matthews comes back. But Oil has the power play
- 35:16quarterback still and he's honestly been looking good with
- 35:19it too. So Josh is smiling, but as if I
- 35:23don't have Morgan Riley on my team anymore.
- 35:25But. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:26I mean like how you managed to sell high on him after he had
- 35:29lost his power. Play one spot that's actually.
- 35:31He had like 9 points in 10 games, but OL has five points in
- 35:35his last six games so I mean he's shooting as well with the
- 35:39extra deployment. So he's definitely worthwhile
- 35:42stream, but obviously not as good while Matthew is out.
- 35:46Yep. OK, let's get to some exciting
- 35:49stuff for Kevin. Josh Norris is back on the ice
- 35:52and could return ahead of schedule.
- 35:54Expect him to be line one, power play one when he does.
- 35:56Assuming he stays healthy, he could be an amazing pickup.
- 35:58He's 13% rostered on Yahoo right now.
- 36:02Like I get it, there's been a lot of injuries this year not
- 36:04everyone has. Well, I mean he's on IR so you
- 36:06don't need the R Plus, but not everyone has that many IR slots.
- 36:08So I get he was an easy cut. Let's say you had too many dead
- 36:11roster spots. Like it makes sense to cut him,
- 36:14but 13% owned for a guy who can do what he can do if healthy, it
- 36:18seems like just an easy like no brainer to add.
- 36:21And if he's you add him and he gets injured again, just drop
- 36:23him. You know, like you're really, I
- 36:24mean, this is the exact same conversation we had like week 1
- 36:27waivers, right? He was low rostered.
- 36:29We were telling everyone, pick up Josh Norris, he's gonna be
- 36:31sick. And then he got injured on the
- 36:33first face off and we looked really dumb and had to redo our
- 36:35entire streaming schedule. Sorry, the last time you saw.
- 36:38And then we have to organize our whole schedule so that we don't
- 36:41get burned again. But I'll have to be said.
- 36:43It's just such a no brainer pickup to me.
- 36:45Like you don't get a guy like this available and obviously he
- 36:48could just get injured. It just there's zero cost you to
- 36:50grab him. He's he's a talented guy.
- 36:52We know he's he's hurt all the time.
- 36:54That's literally the one gripe with him.
- 36:56Like he's just always hurt. He's lived up to his reputation
- 36:59this year, evidently. But when he's healthy, he's line
- 37:03one power play, one play with Tage Thompson.
- 37:06Josh Norris is fantasy profile is he'll score a lot of goals.
- 37:09He's actually a good goal scorer.
- 37:11He shoots and he hits. Yeah.
- 37:13And he's going to be having the best deployment on this team.
- 37:15Like in Ottawa, he didn't always, he wasn't always the one
- 37:17seeing Ottawa like he was oftentimes the 2C.
- 37:19So like he's he would be in the exceptional position for
- 37:23fantasy. He's 13% owned and he's IRL
- 37:26eligible right now. Like he's just arguably the best
- 37:30widely available stash. I've, I remember talking with
- 37:33people on the discord being like OHP, who's interesting on my
- 37:37waivers and I see Josh Norris and I'm just like, you have an
- 37:38IR spot pick up Josh Norris. Yeah, like, Nah, like I bet like
- 37:42he gets hurt like a week after he comes back.
- 37:44Like, listen, that's in the realm of outcomes.
- 37:46Maybe a 5050 chance he gets hurt within the week he comes back.
- 37:48But the upside of him being healthy is just tremendous.
- 37:51I think like you're missing out on a huge potential player.
- 37:55Obviously we're talking about depending how deep your leagues
- 37:57are, like he's going to be way more valuable if you're starting
- 37:59more than just two pure seas. But yeah, he's he's one of the
- 38:03names that I'm like, look at your waiver wire.
- 38:05If you have an IR spot, go stash them.
- 38:06You'll also probably win that week, to be fair, and that's
- 38:10kind of what. We the one we keep there.
- 38:11Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah, because like you're
- 38:14not giving up anything. Theoretically, you're giving up
- 38:16the worst player on your team to like you could do way worse for
- 38:19a stream. And then if it turns into a
- 38:21season long hold, like you said, Kevin, it's stellar.
- 38:24Because he's on my IR spot. Yeah, and you as we know, Kevin
- 38:28has been pillaged with injuries like no tomorrow.
- 38:32So for him to hold him this long and look, we we're podcast
- 38:37hosts. We really love fantasy.
- 38:38We know what we're doing. So for Kevin, are you holding
- 38:40them? Yeah, pick him up if he's
- 38:42available. I mean Kevin definitely also is
- 38:44motivated to hold him because he knows I would grab him if you
- 38:47trust. Well all why would I drop him
- 38:50then? Yeah, no, I mean.
- 38:51Exactly, I had 6 injuries and three dead roster spots.
- 38:53So that's yeah, it's still, but yeah, he's still held.
- 38:58The potential is there. Speaking of the Sabres, Rasmus
- 39:01Dahlin returned from his leave of absence and had two
- 39:03assistance. Risk came back.
- 39:04I wish I had bought low on him when people thought he'd be out
- 39:07for months. Unfortunately for me, I am
- 39:09people. I thought he would be out for
- 39:10months. It's making people.
- 39:13Yeah, exactly. It just sucks.
- 39:16It's like, oh, that would be such an insane violo.
- 39:18Like if anyone had the balls to do that, then, you know, kudos
- 39:21to you. I just there was no information,
- 39:23right? Like it was.
- 39:24It was really. I thought for sure at least one
- 39:26month. Right, Yeah, exactly.
- 39:28And honestly, if I knew it was a month, I'd easily try and buy a
- 39:31low, but the fact that it like in my head it was like at least
- 39:33a month, possibly season like you know.
- 39:35So yeah, anyways, mad regrets, but great for Dolly and great
- 39:38for all Doline. Owners nothing you could do
- 39:40about that. And I will say he's he's been
- 39:42underperforming this year. But I mean, the Sabres are a
- 39:45mess. Yeah, everybody's heard so.
- 39:48Yeah, but he'll he'll turn it around.
- 39:49I mean, even though Buffalo sucked a lot recently, in recent
- 39:54years they just haven't been good.
- 39:55He's always good. So I don't really think it's a
- 39:58buy low opportunity because he just came back from injury.
- 40:00But if you can, still still a great option.
- 40:03His value is going to the boat. The boat's gonna.
- 40:07Go up with. Josh Norris is back, so by that.
- 40:11In and and. Jason.
- 40:13Zucker. You know, like.
- 40:14This. That's their whole probably
- 40:16story pretty much. Yeah, they have a lot of guys
- 40:18injured. It's actually funny because last
- 40:21week's buy low, sell high, I had Dalene down as my buy low.
- 40:24Like I literally had the entire border written out.
- 40:25I had all the stats and everything.
- 40:27And then he goes on his leave of absence like hours before we
- 40:29recorded the episode. And I'm like, oh, well, I can't
- 40:31put him as my Bilo now when I genuinely don't know when he's
- 40:34coming back. So I had to change it.
- 40:35But no Jake, you're absolutely right before he left, he was a
- 40:38great buy low. So very excited about that.
- 40:41Alright, more good news for Kevin Brady could Chuck is
- 40:44traveling with the team. He was set to be out six to
- 40:46eight weeks and it's been 5 weeks to this day, which means
- 40:50that he can return as soon as next week.
- 40:52He's on travel, he's on the road trip.
- 40:53So there's definitely a chance that's crazy exciting for any
- 40:56rate you could Chuck owners. He's only 98% owned somehow.
- 40:59So if you're not 100% go grab Yeah, but no, this is obviously
- 41:05nuts. I mean, if anyone other than
- 41:07Kevin had him in our league, I would have been sending nonstop
- 41:10by low offers, but obviously Kevin wasn't going to do that.
- 41:13But yeah, so the the window has closed or maybe it's about it's
- 41:16I mean, it's not like it's confirmed these back yet, but I
- 41:18don't know if anyone held him this long that they're like,
- 41:20alright, I'm holding on to him now that it's news that he's
- 41:22skating again. But it would have been a good
- 41:24video. If you're Brady owner is not
- 41:26super in the weeds and they're only going to read like the
- 41:29Yahoo tidbit news thing that the AI writes for them, that's
- 41:33always awful. Like just trying to try to go
- 41:35send an offer. But yeah, I'm very excited as a
- 41:39Brady owner, I'm just very looking forward to this.
- 41:42I hope it's in week, in one week.
- 41:44But I don't want him to rush back and then get hurt again.
- 41:46So, like, take your time, Brady. But like, can't wait to have
- 41:48you. Yeah.
- 41:51Brady, take my finger or my hand.
- 41:54Just say my finger. Yeah, exactly.
- 41:59John Carlson of Washington Capitals is day-to-day with an
- 42:02upper body injury. Interestingly enough, Ryan
- 42:04Leonard getting a shot at power play one with him gone that I
- 42:07think Carlos is going to be back and he's going to be bumped off.
- 42:09But it's always interesting to see who the next guy up is,
- 42:11right? You don't.
- 42:11That's not like a stat you can really look up until someone
- 42:14gets demoted so or it gets injured.
- 42:16So I always like looking at that, even if it's not going to
- 42:18last. You now know that number six on
- 42:20that depth chart for power play 1 is Ryan Leonard.
- 42:22So just something to note for the rest of this season or also
- 42:25for future seasons. Yeah, you'd think that
- 42:28Washington would be better than they are, but they're like last.
- 42:31In the Metropolitan like you could have seen this. 1 You
- 42:35could have, but Thomson is an absolute machine like you think
- 42:40and. He's still a cell high.
- 42:41You listen to our episodes. I hope you did.
- 42:43Yeah, he he is. But there they have the 5th
- 42:48right on top of Seattle, actually 5th best in goals
- 42:51against per game this season. They just cannot score.
- 42:54So where this leads into Ryan Leonard is that if he starts
- 42:58doing really well, like I don't think they're married to this
- 43:00power play one right now at all. So.
- 43:03Only one person who's locked onto power play 1 and his name
- 43:05is Alex Ovechkin. Yeah.
- 43:07And two. Yeah, exactly.
- 43:10And 0 defensive zone like exactly.
- 43:14Yeah. So, so I'm quite excited by this
- 43:17because I think, I mean, after what he did last year, Chicken
- 43:20cemented there as the number one defenseman, I believe.
- 43:23I know he didn't really start with it this year and they kind
- 43:25of shuffled it around, but he should.
- 43:27He should be the guy. Look, if Leonard does well
- 43:30though, I don't think it's impossible for him to keep it at
- 43:32all. Plus his bank accounts are
- 43:34great. He shoots a lot 7 and five shots
- 43:37over the past few games and has games with like 3-4 hits so I
- 43:42I'm not like extremely high on him but if he's around you
- 43:44should pick him up for sure. Bankers.
- 43:47I mean, I don't. Know yeah, I don't know like
- 43:49like you have to be a pretty deep bangers league for him to
- 43:51be like a pick him up for sure, especially cause Carlson might
- 43:53just come back, but I'm definitely interested in him
- 43:56like in like a keeper slash dynasty type of league, like I
- 43:58think in future, in future years, I'm very interested this
- 44:01year. I don't know how much value is
- 44:02gonna have but but it's still very interesting to see.
- 44:05More 12 or 14 manly. That's what I mean.
- 44:07He's getting the deeper ones with a lot of rosters.
- 44:09He's definitely one of the names that I anticipate his value to
- 44:12be much higher in the last two months of the season where I
- 44:15feel like maybe Washington as much and and then he's able to
- 44:20have a cemented top six role with a lot of minutes, I will
- 44:22say. Things like those are league
- 44:24winning pickups. It's like 2 months left in the
- 44:26season. The trade deadline has come and
- 44:27gone and you know, teams know they're not making the playoffs
- 44:30and they're like, you know, I'm just gonna play my young guys
- 44:33and kind of let them run wild. And if you pick up those guys
- 44:35that have like, you know, they didn't do much all season, look
- 44:38at their season average is pretty garbage, but all of a
- 44:40sudden they get promoted to line one power play 1 and just given
- 44:43like free reign to kind of discover what they can do in the
- 44:45NHL. Those are league winning
- 44:46pickups. Yep.
- 44:47Yep. OK, let's move on to some Dallas
- 44:51Stars news. Jamie Benn has been upgraded to
- 44:53day-to-day from LTI. Mean, he's still technically on
- 44:55LTIR, but he's now day-to-day and he should be back within the
- 44:58week. I'd expect him to be power play
- 45:00too and he'll either bump Sam Steel out of the top 6 or he'll
- 45:03be line 3 centre. I'm not sure what they're going
- 45:05to go with if they want to spread the wealth a bit more.
- 45:07Not like they've been having trouble with how things have
- 45:09been going. So they probably more line 3
- 45:12power play 2 to start at least. But but he's been solid for
- 45:15bangers in the past. I'm not dying.
- 45:18This is not like a Josh Norris like IR stash.
- 45:20I'm like dying to get when he comes back, but it's worth
- 45:23keeping an eye on. No, exactly, completely agree.
- 45:26Yeah, but that's but. You and then Thomas Thomas
- 45:31Harley is out week to week and he didn't have power play 1.
- 45:34So there's not like anyone taking his spot there.
- 45:36But this could be an opportunity for some other stars defenseman
- 45:38to get more ice time. I know we had mentioned the
- 45:40Discord Leanne Birchell, that's for that's how we're pronouncing
- 45:45his name on the pod, but no Liam.
- 45:48Fisher's like a menace on the shell.
- 45:51It's like an elegant name. I.
- 45:53Know like. Composer or something like.
- 45:58Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 46:01So he's been having some great bangers games.
- 46:03And that's like we always talk about, you know, more ice time
- 46:06means better for bangers. So I think that's really one of
- 46:08the main beneficiaries of this Harley.
- 46:10Lost the only beneficiary. Yeah.
- 46:13Yeah, because I was going to say with him, the only thing is he's
- 46:17known as a hits monster, right? People try to make him and Lozon
- 46:20and good is kind of like the same.
- 46:21But the difference is like he doesn't block, he doesn't block,
- 46:24he doesn't shoot. The other guys shoot, but the
- 46:26blocks are really the big Prince.
- 46:28How you get more blocks, you're on the ice more.
- 46:30So if he's playing 20 minutes a night now because of the extra
- 46:32opportunity and he's looking into or just actually getting
- 46:36more blocks, that makes him extremely fantasy relevant than
- 46:39bangers leagues because he's one of those guys that because he's
- 46:42so one-dimensional, even in bangers league, he's not always
- 46:45on a roster just because it's only hits and zeros everywhere
- 46:48else, right? So that's more of a stream.
- 46:50But if he's getting 20 minutes a night, he becomes way more
- 46:53fantasy relevant and one of those guys that's going to be in
- 46:55the same category as like the good is the true, but the Luzon,
- 46:58the insert X name that gets over four hits game, but like nothing
- 47:04else, you know? Yeah, hey, skin still loves Sell
- 47:06high. Don't forget.
- 47:08I know that because like a big asterisk was like, ooh, after
- 47:12the contract, maybe Harley will take back power, play one,
- 47:14etcetera. I still maintain he was myself
- 47:16high this week. I'm still sticking with that.
- 47:18That Haskins still high. It's a production.
- 47:21The production is so high. That's why it's so high.
- 47:23Exactly. OK, Boone Jenner of the Columbus
- 47:27Blue Jackets is out with an upper body injury.
- 47:29Jake is getting PTSD, and I think his days as a cat beast
- 47:33may be behind him. I think that now Columbus
- 47:36actually has a lot more young talents coming in.
- 47:38And he's not really, not that he was ever necessarily the star of
- 47:41the show, but he got enough ice time and deployments that he was
- 47:43able to be that cat beast while also chipping in the points.
- 47:47But I think with all these injury history, I'm getting
- 47:49older and just the younger guys kind of taking the reins.
- 47:51I think his days of like being like, Oh my God, I can't believe
- 47:55I got him in the 11th round, you know, in a bit like a bangers
- 47:57league with faceoff wins. It's just I don't know how much
- 48:00how interested I am in having him on my roster anymore.
- 48:03The one thing I will say now is just it just gives an extra
- 48:05opportunity in the top 6. And finally they're putting
- 48:09Yagor Tinkov in a in a top six role is going to be playing with
- 48:12Monahan on that second line. And this is a guy that wanted to
- 48:16be traded. He was like, I'm not happy here.
- 48:17I'm not playing like I want to get traded.
- 48:19They said, no, we're not trading you.
- 48:20So already that's kind of just like a feud with the team and
- 48:22the player. And then when he as of like not
- 48:26getting traded, he's staying on the roster, but they're playing
- 48:28in the fourth line and. 7 minutes a night.
- 48:30Yeah. So what's, what's the point now?
- 48:32What are we doing here? But he's a guy that we've seen
- 48:33like being the top 6 previous Columbus that actually be pretty
- 48:36talented. Like he can shoot a lot.
- 48:38Like he's actually a good player when he's like.
- 48:40Happy. Yeah.
- 48:42Before Voronkov like, took that spot from him, he was, it was it
- 48:45was Chekov, Marchenko and Monahan.
- 48:47And then they I don't know what like who's you know, wifey slept
- 48:52with or like, like in management.
- 49:00I don't know what he did, but management hates him.
- 49:03They're like, not only are we not gonna play you, but we're
- 49:05not gonna trade you away. We're just gonna force you to
- 49:07play fourth line minutes. And and yeah, it's.
- 49:09Something she can get this period and.
- 49:11Yeah, exactly. Seeing him get this chance is
- 49:13definitely, definitely add him to the watch list.
- 49:15I added him to the watch list. Right away, that was wild.
- 49:19Watch list and if he sticks here and he's playing like 15 plus
- 49:21minutes a night, like I'm sure his shot volume will be good and
- 49:24that's interesting and deeper leagues.
- 49:25Yeah, yeah. OK.
- 49:27Frank Nasar returned to the lineup and is back on power Play
- 49:29one for now because Tyler Bertuzzi is day-to-day cell
- 49:32while you can. I mean, he's been a cell high
- 49:34for so long. Then he was injured, then he was
- 49:37a you sell low, but like you don't sell low, obviously.
- 49:40But now he's back on power Play 1.
- 49:41And maybe people won't realize that that's only because of her
- 49:43today's injury. So maybe you could be like what
- 49:45he did at the start of the season with the deployment.
- 49:47He got it back. And you know, you don't have to.
- 49:49Not every trade has to be for like a blockbuster.
- 49:51If you can get NASCAR for like a Fantilli or something like that,
- 49:54I would be so happy with that. And I don't think that's like
- 49:56the craziest, you know, even if you have to like throw maybe
- 49:59something a little extras like a sweetener, like that's not crazy
- 50:02yet until he hasn't popped off yet as we expect.
- 50:04I mean, he kinda has like 5 points in the last four games,
- 50:06but like, that's just the start for him.
- 50:08So that's the type of thing I would be looking to do with
- 50:10Nazar. Nazar is the perfect player that
- 50:12I think is like the throw into a trade to get it over the hump.
- 50:15Like let's say you have a centre and you're looking to upgrade
- 50:18centre. Like let's say you want to go
- 50:19from like he sure to I don't know, I'm just giving you an
- 50:23example like a Suzuki and you're like, OK, like what do I do to
- 50:26bridge the gap here? Like, you know, they're kind of
- 50:28close. Glad Frank Nazar, you know
- 50:30you're gonna drop him when he's not on people one anyway.
- 50:31So like just throw him in. Don't try to get like extreme
- 50:35value for him, but like as a throw in it can make it happen.
- 50:37So. Yeah.
- 50:38That's just an example that trade probably doesn't get done,
- 50:40but. Yeah, but anything but dared
- 50:43adjacent like that is the selling point there.
- 50:45That's what you gotta bring up because Bedard is an absolute
- 50:48machine. And I mean he wasn't performing
- 50:51at this level Bedard at the beginning of the season when
- 50:54Nazar was amazing. So it's like, oh wow, now that
- 50:56he's back healthy, you know, like imagine what they could do
- 50:58together and whatever that there's a lot of ways that you
- 51:02can angle it. But Bertuzzi was doing super
- 51:05well and the whole the basis of this organization right now is
- 51:10let's make Bedard elite and the pieces, we'll put the pieces of
- 51:13the puzzle together as time goes on.
- 51:15So Nazar is a plan in their future.
- 51:18He got a good contract, he's a good player.
- 51:19But for fantasy relevance this year, it's gonna be an absolute
- 51:22roller coaster. You want something better and
- 51:24you can add him as a sweetener like Heaven said.
- 51:26Yeah, OK. Marco Rossi is week to week with
- 51:30a lower body injury. Ryan Hartman took his line one
- 51:32spot, but then he got injured too.
- 51:33So now, Daniela, you're off. With the big boys.
- 51:37I knew it. You can't predict all the
- 51:43centres on the team getting injured and then he gets his
- 51:45shot and you're like I called it, I knew he was gonna get it
- 51:48was someone to check your basement.
- 51:52York the last few days. That is such a good point, Oh my
- 51:56God. It just so happens everybody
- 51:59else gets hurt more than. Watch out.
- 52:05It always happened something, yeah.
- 52:07Yeah. Anyways, I'm not interested in
- 52:10picking up anyone right now for that and it's like any of them
- 52:12are getting power play 1 so it's just something to mention.
- 52:15But I mean, I guess like it is nice to be playing with Kaprizov
- 52:18and if it's Boldy or Garello. If he shows out, like increased
- 52:24opportunity could be coming his way.
- 52:25So that's that's the exciting part.
- 52:27But yeah, I don't know. Not really interested right now.
- 52:31Hill to climb. Yeah, a massive hill to climb,
- 52:33but he has alright haha insert you guys making fun of me.
- 52:37His starts in the case shown, he and Demidov both were like the
- 52:43record setters for what they did for their age group.
- 52:46So obviously Demidov has the pedigree that you're off does
- 52:49not have, but you're off has Kaprizov and that's huge if he
- 52:56really does like stay there for a few games.
- 52:57Also speaking Russian and not everyone in the NHL speaking
- 53:01Russian like they could like communicate with each other.
- 53:03Telepathically, I'm actually over here behind all these
- 53:07defensemen, but they can't understand because I'm speaking
- 53:09in Russian. That's exactly how I thought.
- 53:14Oil of our plans. So, so watch list.
- 53:18Uh, I, I would watch list. I'm not like, yeah, thinking
- 53:21it's irrelevant, but it's a huge help to climb like you said.
- 53:24Yeah, OK, let's get to everyone's favorite section of
- 53:28the episode. OK, Kevin's favorite section of
- 53:30the episode, the would you rathers.
- 53:33All right, I'm excited for these ones because I think we got some
- 53:37spicy ones today. Last week, I feel like I was a
- 53:39little bit disappointed in myself.
- 53:41I didn't really split the difference here, but today I put
- 53:43extra effort into it. It's always hard.
- 53:45I'm trying to pick the two players that you guys are going
- 53:48to feel differently about. So yeah.
- 53:50But. This is a fun one.
- 53:52I feel like we're starting off hot.
- 53:53Hopefully you guys haven't peaked.
- 53:55I never peek. Hey Josh, never peaks.
- 53:59Yeah, he always peaks. Andrew Peak.
- 54:05OK, go. No, this is your first time
- 54:07listening to one of our Would You Rather episodes.
- 54:11Happy to have you. Congrats, you made it.
- 54:13But now we go through five with your brothers.
- 54:18Try to split the difference between making Josh and Jackie
- 54:20pick each player on one of these sides and we go through one of
- 54:25every position. So one left wing, right wing,
- 54:26centre defence and goalie. So let's get started with left
- 54:31wingers starting off hot. Would you rather newly healthy
- 54:37big boy, Zach Hyman big boy or Jake Gensel rest of season?
- 54:43Ohio. I like that one a lot.
- 54:47We got one game of Hyman under our belt as we speak.
- 54:50Buddy out eleven hits. He's playing in top 6IN
- 54:53Edmonton. Jake Guentzel we know is going
- 54:55to be playing with Kucherov on that power play.
- 54:58Hyman had, what, fifty goals? A few seasons?
- 55:02Ago. I know who I'm going with, I'm
- 55:05going to go with. That wait wait, wait.
- 55:06No, sorry. Where did that influence your
- 55:09decision? Making No, I was gonna say that
- 55:11to really. Yeah, because you can go first,
- 55:15then I'll, I'll chime in. OK, for me, I know, I mean we
- 55:18talked about in the offseason, we know exactly what we're
- 55:20getting with Denzel and it's great.
- 55:21We're getting one point per game, three shots and some power
- 55:25play, let's say like .25 to .3 power play like that.
- 55:28He is so consistent, you know exactly you're getting.
- 55:30So it's very easy to compare with with Hymen, I see him, he
- 55:34can easily get a point per game. I think they should end up with
- 55:36similar points. I see Edmonton power play being
- 55:39a lot better because I mean Tampas struggling right now.
- 55:42I think they gonna turn it around.
- 55:43Maybe not a lot better but I see Edmonton powerfully being better
- 55:45so he'll get more power play points shots I see being
- 55:48similar. But then Hyman's got the hits
- 55:49and I'm not expecting to get 11 hits per game, but even 1.5 to
- 55:53two hits per game is 1.5 to two hits more than Gensel is going
- 55:56to get. So I think that's the main
- 55:57difference maker for. Me neither.
- 55:59I remind you though that Hyman last year had a garbage 0.6
- 56:04points per game and .16 power play points.
- 56:08Last season, one point per game, .35 power play points.
- 56:12Like all these, all these Tampa guys usually hover around .4
- 56:15power play points. Like that's pretty elite, so.
- 56:19And I'm just I'm, I'm a big believer in the Heyman bounce
- 56:21back this year. Yeah.
- 56:23So same with the Hymen bounce back also like let's not forget
- 56:29that just in general Tampa is underperforming.
- 56:33So like there, there is that component.
- 56:35But I think if you look at it last year, it's such a clear
- 56:39outlier as far as production goes.
- 56:42Like for Hymens, since he went to Edmonton, his previous worse
- 56:46was 54 points in 76 games and then last year was 44 and 73.
- 56:50Other than that, he exceeded a point per game in one year and
- 56:53basically was point per game another year.
- 56:54It's obvious and glaring that that was the year that he
- 56:59underperformed. Additionally, this concept of
- 57:02him hitting is is new and adds on to what should be like a
- 57:08point 9 point per game player. I think if you can get like a
- 57:12double double at least from him with the goals, should he should
- 57:17get more goals than assists. I think that this is not a clear
- 57:21Heiman. It's a very good question, but
- 57:23to me like the edge is there for him to get it.
- 57:26I'm going Jake Denzel. I believe in.
- 57:28I believe in the points difference being here.
- 57:31I think Hyman probably gets around point 7.8, but I think
- 57:33Jake Guentzel gets a point per game and um yeah, I know the
- 57:37human will hit, but I don't know, I don't think it'll be 11.
- 57:40I think he's gonna average around 2, which is already
- 57:42great. But I I want the consistency of
- 57:45I know what I'm getting with gentle week in and week out.
- 57:47I don't want to risk getting that high Mens or .6 season once
- 57:50again. So.
- 57:53Fair enough. Wow.
- 57:54Yep. That's that's close.
- 57:56Is lovely, close and and like I said, like gentle right now is
- 58:00performing well, but I think his ceiling is even higher when
- 58:03Tampa starts clicking properly so quick.
- 58:05Question, given all the metrics with his hits, how many hits per
- 58:08game do you need hymen to get in order for you to pick Hyman over
- 58:12Denzel? That is a great question.
- 58:14I mean, it's a great question and there's no perfect answer,
- 58:16but I think. It is what the numbers that you
- 58:20expect them. So let's say let's say cancel
- 58:22gets the one point per game and Hyman ends with .75.
- 58:25Yeah. Yeah, but I think it's more than
- 58:27just the question of the points difference.
- 58:29It's like the thresholds as well.
- 58:31Averaging over a point per game is is hard.
- 58:33And like Denzel can do that. I don't think Hyman gets a point
- 58:35per game this season does If he was averaging like three or four
- 58:39hits, maybe I I take the discount.
- 58:42But yeah, yeah, I don't have like an exact number of like,
- 58:46OK, it's 2.7 I'm good, but 2.8 I'm not type of thing, you know
- 58:50what I mean? But.
- 58:50Yeah for sure, but I mean I feel like is a no brainer.
- 58:53Whatever. Yeah.
- 58:54That's it. If it's at 3:00 with the metrics
- 58:56you laid out, I think it's clear and I just, I think that it's
- 58:59gonna be like a .1 points per game difference as opposed to
- 59:02.25. Yeah, that's a good one.
- 59:04What do we got? Next, alright #2 we're talking
- 59:06right wingers. This one is a hot commodity now.
- 59:09Two guys that have started the season as incredibly polarizing
- 59:14players, I will say. Ohhhhh I wonder how this is
- 59:17gonna be. Would you rather Andre
- 59:20Svechnikov, the new height man of the NHL, or Nick Schmaltz,
- 59:26one of the hardest starting players in the season?
- 59:28That's easy sketch, easy for me. Really.
- 59:31OK, Yeah, easy. Yeah, I think, I think what he,
- 59:35and I know, I know Schmaltz has been, has been unreal.
- 59:38But like Husbands, we've talked about this like Schmaltz was
- 59:40such a cell high. Yeah.
- 59:42And he has slowed down the whole Utah team slowed down a bit.
- 59:45But yeah, I think what Speech is doing is is legit.
- 59:48I think that he's going to keep this deployment.
- 59:50I think he might go through stretches where Rod gets pissed
- 59:52at him and put him on line for power play too, for like a week.
- 59:54But for the most part, I expect him to stay line one, power play
- 59:57one with with how well he's been doing and and he's going to be
- 1:00:01closer to the player people drafted him as from here on out.
- 1:00:05Then the player he's been to start the season in my opinion.
- 1:00:08Over the last month, Nick Schmaltz is still averaging over
- 1:00:11a point per game, Which is very impressive.
- 1:00:15I mean, I'm not saying he's going to do that for the rest of
- 1:00:18the season, but you know that you're you're getting a good
- 1:00:20player in a Utah top six and he's, I would say like pretty
- 1:00:23tied to the success of this team, even though they've been.
- 1:00:26Slumping resolution lot. I just I'm pretty high on
- 1:00:28switch, which is crazy because I held him through the lows and
- 1:00:31then traded him right when he. Got his lows were literally a
- 1:00:34waiver wire. Like his roster percentage
- 1:00:35dropped to like 40%. Yeah, but now it's back up to
- 1:00:38like 65 or something. So yeah, which is not as high as
- 1:00:40you would want for a guy that you know, it was a 5 or 6 round
- 1:00:45pick. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:47Anyways, I'm going to sketch, but maybe not easy, right?
- 1:00:49I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend the the.
- 1:00:50Would you rather? Master, thank you.
- 1:00:52I'm gonna go with I'm yeah, I agree.
- 1:00:56I'm gonna go with Speechnow call but it's more of a referendum on
- 1:01:00schmaltz that being anything pro because the inconsistencies are.
- 1:01:05From but he said something positive about space.
- 1:01:07No, it's like, well, like because I mean it's look, I mean
- 1:01:10people have been listening to us know that we think the rod
- 1:01:14issues are real. And it's not that his new
- 1:01:17production is necessarily here to stay.
- 1:01:20It's really just Aho and Jarvis. These are the only two reliable
- 1:01:23guys on this team, and I guess this bear is creeping into that
- 1:01:27conversation, to be honest. Yeah, but it's really like it's
- 1:01:31just Ajo and Jarvis to me that I can expect consistencies.
- 1:01:34That being said, he should be there logically, and which is
- 1:01:39like a nice plus. But the real crux of it all is
- 1:01:42that we have enough of a sample size from Schmaltz to know that
- 1:01:45Schmaltz is a very good player for certain stretches of the
- 1:01:47season. And this is a fun offensive
- 1:01:50team, but to me it's just at least you have the base of the
- 1:01:54shots and the hits from Shenkuu V.
- 1:01:56So whether he is line 4 for you know, a week and sure it's a
- 1:02:00bummer to hold them through that, you'll still get overall
- 1:02:03better production when it's all said and done so.
- 1:02:06And I will say for his deployment, one thing that makes
- 1:02:10me think he's more likely to keep line one power play 1 is
- 1:02:12actually how well Elers has done on line 2.
- 1:02:15So that line 2 is really clicking.
- 1:02:17So there's no reason for Rod to want to promote one of them to
- 1:02:21bump stretch down and. Then we don't know like his he
- 1:02:25could get bumped down to line 3 and they could put somebody
- 1:02:27else, not healers like I don't know definitely.
- 1:02:30I think you lost the won't go to line to 1 because they like what
- 1:02:32he's doing on line 2. But it doesn't mean Splash won't
- 1:02:34get bumped down to line 3 or 4 for somebody.
- 1:02:36Else you're definitely in the realm of possibility.
- 1:02:38But like I think that makes it more likely that he keeps saying
- 1:02:41it's just fewer players who could dump him down because they
- 1:02:43like that line too. And then for power play 1, the
- 1:02:45power play started clicking once he kind of got put back onto it.
- 1:02:49I mean, it also helps that Gospel got healthy at the same
- 1:02:51time. But Switch has some power play
- 1:02:52goals in the past week or two and he's been a big asset to
- 1:02:55that power place. I really think that he's
- 1:02:57cemented his deployment. Yeah, he's a great playing.
- 1:02:59He's he's a great player. He has a tremendous ceiling.
- 1:03:01That's why he gets drafted so high.
- 1:03:03I will say like the hits have definitely decreased in recent
- 1:03:06years. Like you're not getting over two
- 1:03:07hits anymore. Like you're getting 11.5.
- 1:03:10That's kind of like his baseline now.
- 1:03:11But the thing with smells like I am also going to switch just
- 1:03:14because I think his archetype is more valuable and I think he has
- 1:03:17a higher ceiling. But I want to give small some
- 1:03:19credit because I think first of all, you can trade Nick schmaltz
- 1:03:21force fetch if you're in a I mean such as really hot right
- 1:03:24now. So if the manager is like
- 1:03:25looking at the last two weeks only, then it's going to be a
- 1:03:28crazy sample size. Bushmaster has been having
- 1:03:30success the whole season and I think Schmaltz has always been a
- 1:03:34like .8 type of player and like hovers between two and three
- 1:03:37shots, which is really good for a guy that usually doesn't get
- 1:03:40drafted in fantasy leagues. But he hasn't played on the Utah
- 1:03:43team with this much talent in a long time.
- 1:03:45So I'm expecting the baseline to be over .8.
- 1:03:47Like right now he's over a point per game.
- 1:03:49I don't think he get his point per game this season, but can he
- 1:03:51hit like point 9.95 with this deployment?
- 1:03:54Like I, I think he's a very safe player to have the fantasy
- 1:03:57decision and he's one of those guys at the game doesn't like
- 1:04:00the name value and like the production doesn't match.
- 1:04:02And those guys are good to have in fantasy because you can get
- 1:04:06better deals on them when you're trying to trade for them.
- 1:04:07So. Yeah.
- 1:04:09Yeah, I agreed. All right #3 talking defenseman
- 1:04:13now. Two guys that have been hot,
- 1:04:15hot, hot. Let's go with Josh Morrissey,
- 1:04:20arguably the hottest defenseman in the NHL right now.
- 1:04:23Or Adam. Fox type.
- 1:04:25And I'm not talking looks. I'm talking production, baby.
- 1:04:30OK, let's see what they've been doing.
- 1:04:32Yeah, my first instinct here and I'm gonna still have to ponder
- 1:04:38before I solidify it, but it's gonna be Morrissey because he,
- 1:04:43this is not like just one year like Morrison, excellent
- 1:04:47offensive defenseman and it's been years of this already.
- 1:04:50Last 14 days average you got 1.33 points to .71 for Fox.
- 1:04:54Obviously that's huge .67 power play points, which is
- 1:04:57unsustainable. 6/7. Alright.
- 1:05:02OK. But essentially, like I, I just
- 1:05:07think like with the blocks probably being safer as well to
- 1:05:11me, that this one and the Adam Fox name is a little flashier,
- 1:05:15but I'm gonna go with Morrissey. I'm also going more see I am a
- 1:05:21certified Rangers hater now. I've been converted.
- 1:05:24How was it was it was pretty GTA.
- 1:05:26All it took was owning JT for so long in the season and
- 1:05:29Lafreniere and it was a miserable experience.
- 1:05:32I do think Trocheck coming back has revitalized the team, but I
- 1:05:36think Fox's ceiling is what Morrisseys like.
- 1:05:39Not floor, but like, like Fox, you wish he's doing what more
- 1:05:42he's doing now. Obviously more he's going to
- 1:05:43slow down and I could see Fox picking it up.
- 1:05:46But I think that best case for Fox is they meet in the middle,
- 1:05:49Morrissey blocks more Fox like shoots a little bit more so far,
- 1:05:52but I don't see that being a big difference.
- 1:05:54So I don't see why you would pick Fox when you have like the
- 1:05:58more stable like sure thing and more see for the same market
- 1:06:02type of player. Come, let me ask you a question
- 1:06:04that's gonna maybe shed some clarity on the situation and
- 1:06:07make you guys reevaluate your pics, OK?
- 1:06:10Let me tell you why you're wrong.
- 1:06:11What was Who had the best power play in the NHL last season?
- 1:06:15Winnipeg. OK.
- 1:06:16Who was the probably quarterback for Winnipeg?
- 1:06:18Morrissey. Yes.
- 1:06:20OK, how many points did 2 Morsi average last season?
- 1:06:23Let me check. You let me help you was he was a
- 1:06:26.78 points per season points per game last season.
- 1:06:30OK .28 power play points. What do you think?
- 1:06:33Fox average last season? .82.
- 1:06:36Yeah. Is that more?
- 1:06:37More than it? Yes.
- 1:06:40So I'm just saying that if you're looking at mass
- 1:06:42production, he was already on the best power play in the
- 1:06:45league and the average .8 points per game.
- 1:06:47And Fox averaged slightly more on a Rangers team that was
- 1:06:51abysmal. Right now, yes, he's averaging
- 1:06:541.2 points per game over the last few weeks.
- 1:06:57But is that sustainable? We, I remember early in the
- 1:06:59season when Josh Morrissey was getting zeros for like weeks and
- 1:07:02people were worried like, but now the fact that he's super hot
- 1:07:05is like, OK, we're we're set. I think Fox is just one of those
- 1:07:08names that you know you're going to get.
- 1:07:09I think the floor is .8. I think now that the Rangers are
- 1:07:12clicking, we can see a ceiling that we haven't seen yet.
- 1:07:15He can be a point per game defenseman.
- 1:07:16I don't think Morris will end the season as a point per game
- 1:07:18defenseman. I just don't like I know we all
- 1:07:21were all thinking like, oh, church came back and the Rangers
- 1:07:24all of a sudden learned how to not get shut out at home every
- 1:07:26time, you know, like the bar was so low.
- 1:07:28Like, yes, they had a couple of good games and I do think
- 1:07:30trocheck makes team a lot better, but I don't think that
- 1:07:33guarantees that all of a sudden all their issues are fixed and
- 1:07:35they're gonna be the wagon that, you know, we we kind of hope
- 1:07:38that they would be this year. So I I think that Morris is just
- 1:07:41a safer bet. He's obviously not going to keep
- 1:07:43the he's doing right now, but he's just on a lot better team,
- 1:07:46I think, and he has that power play was first in the league for
- 1:07:49a reason last year and they replaced dealers with Profeti.
- 1:07:51I don't think that's a big downgrade.
- 1:07:52I think that they should still be a super hot probably this
- 1:07:55year, whereas Rangers are struggling.
- 1:07:57I mean, no shade to Will Cooley, but if he's, if he's on your
- 1:08:00power plate, you know, versus like.
- 1:08:02Making it work. No, he look, I actually think
- 1:08:05he's a really good player, but like, that's not the necessarily
- 1:08:08like seal of excellence I'm looking for when I'm making a
- 1:08:11bet on who's going to be better. Is anybody willing to be your
- 1:08:13bet me for rest of season points between these two these two
- 1:08:16defensemen 'cause I'm on the Atom Fox side?
- 1:08:18Yeah, I would be right you. Rest of season as of today, who
- 1:08:21gets more points between now and the rest of the season?
- 1:08:24I assume they have similar games played to make it.
- 1:08:27There actually haven't tracked exactly, I just thought of this
- 1:08:29right now but. Yeah.
- 1:08:31Yeah, at the time, Josh Morrissey has played eighteen
- 1:08:34games. Adam Fox has played 20.
- 1:08:37OK, I'm down. OK.
- 1:08:40I'll call the rest of season points per game pays.
- 1:08:43Sure, we could do that. If you wanna do the math on the
- 1:08:46on the date and all that stuff, I'll do the math.
- 1:08:48OK, cool. Alright, lock it in.
- 1:08:50Jake, you don't want any part of this.
- 1:08:54Alright, so. Is this is this our first beer
- 1:08:56bit of the in season or? But we haven't had one in like
- 1:09:00over a month. So like, yeah.
- 1:09:02Baby. Oh.
- 1:09:03Yeah, alright. So Kevin Betts, Josh dot, Adam
- 1:09:06Fox has a better points per game pace between now and the rest of
- 1:09:09the season. Yeah, dating this back to
- 1:09:11November 17th. Yeah.
- 1:09:13OK. Let's move on to the next one.
- 1:09:14I think we should. Try.
- 1:09:15Yeah, we gotta wrap this up. We're running long on time, but
- 1:09:18we're talking centres right now. Baby.
- 1:09:22The one of the hottest names in the league.
- 1:09:25Also one of the most attractive players in the league, Suzuki.
- 1:09:29True. No Homer bias or Leo Carlson
- 1:09:33rest of season. That's a Suzuki for me and I
- 1:09:37know that Carlson literally like ranking Cousins little ranking
- 1:09:40number one in our league or has been for like a while.
- 1:09:43And look, I'm assuming that assuming that Suzuki could
- 1:09:47either get healthy while playing through this injury, that we.
- 1:09:50Think he has? Or yeah, yeah, like I do think
- 1:09:53that's slowing him down though. I mean, he literally had a quote
- 1:09:55being like, I don't need to be the fastest to still, like,
- 1:09:57produce out there, you know? So I think like he is being like
- 1:09:59hindered a bit by injury, but like you said, he still could
- 1:10:01power through it. It's just that Leo Carlson is
- 1:10:04such a cell high for me that you drafted Leo Carlson at like in
- 1:10:08like around like 1415. Suzuki was drafted second round
- 1:10:11in our league and I think that's a fair spot for him.
- 1:10:13So obviously, like a certain point in the season, who cares
- 1:10:17where someone got drafted? It's just about the value.
- 1:10:19But I just think Leo Carlson is playing out of his mind and it's
- 1:10:21not sustainable, whereas Suzuki, what he's doing, I think is
- 1:10:24sustainable. OK, I'm, I'm not as quick to get
- 1:10:29to the results as you are, and mainly because, you know, like
- 1:10:35just Leo Carlson's been absolute insane.
- 1:10:38If Leo Carlson has one fan, it's me.
- 1:10:40If Leo Carlson have no fan, it's because I'm dead.
- 1:10:45That is great. What if you had to save Nick,
- 1:10:47Suzuki and Leo? Carlson Hell, you put it this
- 1:10:50way. It's, you know, he's ranked so
- 1:10:55high, I would say mainly because his Pimms have been kind of
- 1:10:58crazy for some reason and his shorthanded points.
- 1:11:01So in our league, that does carry a lot of value.
- 1:11:04Yeah, not holding anything against like that, 1.4 points
- 1:11:06per game or anything like that. No, no.
- 1:11:08But that's why this one. Yeah.
- 1:11:10Yeah, you know what I mean. Like they're completely correct.
- 1:11:12Something that something that's insane to see 2.71 Pimms.
- 1:11:16Like what the heck is he? The game is called Doctor feels
- 1:11:20like. Yeah, and he still producing at.
- 1:11:22This does it all. Anyway, to me, to me it's
- 1:11:25extremely close because of Suzukis injury issue.
- 1:11:30If that maintains like that's a big problem because the Habs
- 1:11:35have like 0 depth right now it seems with all the injuries we
- 1:11:38spoke about. So I don't really know how
- 1:11:41that's going to go. I'm still going to go Suzuki.
- 1:11:43It's much safer bet he's he has like a better track record in
- 1:11:47his career because you know, Carlson, it's it's his sophomore
- 1:11:49year, 3rd year. But hmm, yeah, I mean, it's,
- 1:11:54it's closer to me, Josh. No, no, it's super close.
- 1:11:58I'm just, I think that's just Suzuki is so, so good and I
- 1:12:01think Carlson's really good. But just honestly, when I see
- 1:12:03someone forming that well, it sketches me out if that person's
- 1:12:06name is not McKinnon or McDavid or like Kucherov, I'm like, OK,
- 1:12:10I mean, he's unsustainable. He's gonna come back down to
- 1:12:12Earth, but it's like, where is Earth?
- 1:12:14You know, like is, is it Nick Suzuki or is it crazy or is it
- 1:12:19chiefly or, you know, where's, where's the line for Leo
- 1:12:22Carlson? That's kind of like the goal.
- 1:12:24Here so you gotta protect. Suzuki, Kevin.
- 1:12:28I, I think I, I mean, listen, if as we record this tomorrow, Nick
- 1:12:32Suzuki is missing time, like I'll change my decision.
- 1:12:34But right now it's, it's gotta be nicer to you, I think in a
- 1:12:36Trader Joe's Mitsuki plus. Yeah.
- 1:12:38So I think. That's and I will try to do
- 1:12:40that. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:41Obviously has to be healthy at the time that you're listening
- 1:12:43to this for that answers all. Right.
- 1:12:45Let's quickly wrap this up with the goalie position.
- 1:12:48I want to provide some context here as well, but would you
- 1:12:50rather the best goalie in the league, Yaroslav Askarov?
- 1:12:55He knew he carries this putting his own guys are performing
- 1:12:58well. Or Philip Gustafson of the
- 1:13:04Minnesota Wild, who is playing ahead of a yes for Walston,
- 1:13:08who's got back-to-back shutouts as a rookie.
- 1:13:10Yeah. Is there gonna be a single thing
- 1:13:13that Jake is wrong about this year?
- 1:13:15Yeah. Like, he's like rookies.
- 1:13:18This is a weird year, OK. Like I've never seen so many
- 1:13:21rookies. Not only just like.
- 1:13:22To be right so many times, you gonna say?
- 1:13:25Yeah, no, so many of these like young, like, not to say rookies,
- 1:13:27like let's say like year 2 guys just come out of nowhere and not
- 1:13:30just be like way better than they were the year before, but
- 1:13:33be like the best players in the league.
- 1:13:34Like I've never, I've never seen this happen with so many
- 1:13:37players. You're looking at like Carlson,
- 1:13:38Sabrina, I like Bedard coming out of there now, like walking
- 1:13:41back to Buckshot his cutter go. Yeah, like where where did this
- 1:13:44come from? Right.
- 1:13:44Like maybe it was a couple trades happening.
- 1:13:46I don't know, Like, yeah, like it's crazy.
- 1:13:49It's it's really exciting. It's a, it's a fun time for the
- 1:13:51league. It's tough for me because I
- 1:13:53usually tend to draft more conservatively and avoid the
- 1:13:55unknowns like that. But no, it's super, super
- 1:13:59interesting. Yeah, I it's funny because I was
- 1:14:04like looking at the standings and the Sharks are not doing
- 1:14:06very well. They're second to last, but
- 1:14:07they're basically like one win away from this central.
- 1:14:11In the water recently. Or, sorry, this is the Pacific.
- 1:14:13Yeah, there's a very close division, so I'm gonna take full
- 1:14:19credit for saying that the Sharks are going to be decent.
- 1:14:21So thank you guys on that. But I will say that Phillip
- 1:14:23Josephson was my Week 5 by low. I maintain that Gustafson is
- 1:14:28going to be the starter for the duration of the season.
- 1:14:30That being said, I think I believe in the Sharks to make to
- 1:14:36be a decent team. I'm gonna go ask her all.
- 1:14:39I'm gonna go ask her all over there.
- 1:14:42So crazy. Yeah, I will say I screw up does
- 1:14:45not have a wall stud problem. I disagree actually.
- 1:14:49I think that net is a serious concern for me in making this
- 1:14:52decision because the reason Askarov got all those starts in
- 1:14:55a row is because Ned had a personal leave but now need's
- 1:14:57coming back. Obviously ASK played out of his
- 1:14:59mind so you think that he would just run away with it, but
- 1:15:01that's not always how it works in practice, right?
- 1:15:03Like I wouldn't be surprised if they go back to alternating, um,
- 1:15:06the fact you're. Seeing the two stars, one star,
- 1:15:08two stars, one star type of situation, which is not the
- 1:15:10worst either. It's not the worst, but I don't
- 1:15:12think it's even a guarantee. Like I said, I know After has
- 1:15:14been nuts and if we were to coach, we'd be like, yeah, take
- 1:15:16all the starts, you know, like, I think there's definitely
- 1:15:19something to be said for that. Let me take a quick look at what
- 1:15:21Gus has been up to, regardless of the Walstead stuff.
- 1:15:23Yeah. I like both of them by the way,
- 1:15:27but I. Think, I think I've still gotta
- 1:15:30go with the Gustafson does wanna.
- 1:15:33I don't think that whilst that's going to take the job looking
- 1:15:36like I thought that originally I was like, well, back-to-back
- 1:15:38shutouts, that's something here, you know.
- 1:15:40But then just looking at Justin's been doing, he hasn't
- 1:15:43been bad. Like he was a good buyer like he
- 1:15:44said, and then he's been stringing together some good
- 1:15:46starts and I was the lowest on Minnesota out of all of us.
- 1:15:48But I'm like even lower on the Sharks, even with how fun
- 1:15:51they've been. I just don't think like I don't
- 1:15:53understand how this defence isn't letting in like 6 goals a
- 1:15:57game. And I know ASK was a big part of
- 1:15:58that. Like he's been really, really
- 1:15:59good. But to me, I just see that as
- 1:16:01like a room for regression. I just don't see how like who's
- 1:16:05their best defenseman? Like, I mean clinging scratch,
- 1:16:07not that he's defensive like your love or love and you have
- 1:16:10Super Mario Ferraro, you know, like I love obviously, but like
- 1:16:13I just don't believe in that in that in that defenseman core at
- 1:16:16all. So it's not because I also in
- 1:16:18the offseason said I don't believe in Minnesota's defence
- 1:16:20court at all. But I think I just got to go
- 1:16:23with the more, the more kind of safer bed of Gustafson.
- 1:16:27How about you? I'm obviously going to ask her.
- 1:16:30I'm going to ask her. I'll be home around here.
- 1:16:33He is saved by goalie, my goalie position for my for my team.
- 1:16:36So I have to put the I have to put some stock in that.
- 1:16:39But but I'm just saying, I feel like ask Rob's floor is higher
- 1:16:44than Gus's floor right now. Like I've seen Gus have mixed
- 1:16:47performances and like, yes, maybe Jasper is not ready to be
- 1:16:51like the the starting all games goalie for this team right now,
- 1:16:55but he's definitely putting some pressure on a situation.
- 1:16:57And if Gus falters, will have 0 hesitation to just go with with
- 1:17:01a Walstead moving forward or give him a string of games.
- 1:17:04Whereas I think Askerov can struggle.
- 1:17:07And I don't think Nadel Kamich is an exceptional goalie.
- 1:17:10We've seen him be like honestly terrible in in recent years.
- 1:17:14He he was like this year, yeah, he's been good this year.
- 1:17:16So it's making me think like, maybe there's something about
- 1:17:19the the Sharks that, you know, is helping these goalies out a
- 1:17:22little bit. I have no idea.
- 1:17:23But I do think Ask Rob is better than Ned.
- 1:17:26I think Askerov is the goalie of the future.
- 1:17:28And I think right now he's in the 1A were so I feel like the
- 1:17:32situation is better for him, Whereas Gus, I feel like at any
- 1:17:35moment, like Walt said, can just like develop and be the guy and
- 1:17:38they'll roll with him so. I think it's.
- 1:17:41Nothing is likely. I'm just saying it's like it's
- 1:17:43part of the risk that I'm banking.
- 1:17:45Into it I just think that the net risk is bigger this season
- 1:17:48at least than the walls at risk but but I think it's fair to
- 1:17:51have the European as well, especially with hot ass girl has
- 1:17:53been and he's been on your team so you've been experiencing all
- 1:17:56that joy it's. Very, I'm not saying nothing's
- 1:17:59gonna be like get all the stars. Like I can see this be like he
- 1:18:02gets 2 minimum two games every week pretty much is kind of how
- 1:18:05I'm viewing the situation. Whereas I can see Gus be like a
- 1:18:08guy that like at some point can be a minimum one game.
- 1:18:11And Minnesota isn't necessarily the best team this year either,
- 1:18:13right? So.
- 1:18:14Yeah, called it. Alright, that's true for asker
- 1:18:18of one for Ghost of Sin. That wraps up our Week 7 news
- 1:18:23and would you Rathers episode. Really, really good content on
- 1:18:26this one. Would you Rathers were, as you
- 1:18:28said, habanero level spice? Better than last year.
- 1:18:33No, no, it was it was really good.
- 1:18:35Thank you to. Everybody's learning.
- 1:18:37Yes, Kevin Kevin AI. Kevin AI has like a nice ring to
- 1:18:41it actually makes. People think not real?
- 1:18:45What? So people are gonna think I'm
- 1:18:47not real. It's pretty advanced for not
- 1:18:50being, especially because like your beard is like thicker,
- 1:18:53sometimes less thick and you wear hats.
- 1:18:55Yeah, figure that out. Yeah, it's against their code of
