- 0:56Speaker 3: Life is good, just been chilling. I feel like hanging out.
- 0:59Speaker 3: How about you?
- 1:00Speaker 1: I am doing well as well. Love it. I have
- 1:05Speaker 1: my in laws here, so I'm recording in my in
- 1:08Speaker 1: my boudoir.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I was gonna say boudoir.
- 1:11Speaker 1: That's funny, and yeah, they're going to be heading out tomorrow,
- 1:16Speaker 1: but we have to hang out. We tried out a
- 1:19Speaker 1: new restaurant by my house tonight, which was exciting. It
- 1:24Speaker 1: was really good, but apparently it's kind of a local
- 1:27Speaker 1: chain it's called Brick and Bourbon. Have you been there?
- 1:30Speaker 3: I do feel like I've heard that name before, but
- 1:33Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:33Speaker 1: There was like four locations in the Cities and they
- 1:36Speaker 1: just opened one by me and really good food, dude,
- 1:39Speaker 1: good burgers. They had this tater tot hot dish appetizer yo,
- 1:48Speaker 1: which was pretty great, pretty good. Most of these folks
- 1:52Speaker 1: on here are probably like, what's the tater tot hot dish? Well,
- 1:54Speaker 1: that's a Minnesota staple.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I just think of cast role with tater tots
- 1:58Speaker 3: in it.
- 1:59Speaker 1: You're enough and it's so good. I haven't had it forever.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Oh dude, it's it's one of my faves. Now, were
- 2:08Speaker 3: you guys This is controversial, so bear with me. Were
- 2:11Speaker 3: you guys at green beans in the tator tat cast Role?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, yeah we did. We did have the green
- 2:18Speaker 1: beans in there.
- 2:19Speaker 3: See, we weren't because I was allergic to beans, and
- 2:21Speaker 3: so every time I see them in there, I'm like,
- 2:23Speaker 3: I can't, I.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Can't do that. I can't remember if this place had
- 2:28Speaker 1: it or not. There were definitely a bunch of carrots
- 2:30Speaker 1: in there, you know, they were good, very.
- 2:33Speaker 3: It's almost like a shepherd's pie. But with the kind
- 2:36Speaker 3: of fish. Yeah, I like that.
- 2:39Speaker 1: It was cool.
- 2:40Speaker 3: That's good.
- 2:41Speaker 1: They had a lot of fun apps and cool. Yeah,
- 2:44Speaker 1: we might have to go down there if you ever
- 2:46Speaker 1: love it. Yeah, I would love to check it out.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Something fun because I have that book. I want to
- 2:51Speaker 1: give you two so we should. Oh my god, make
- 2:53Speaker 1: a date with that.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Let's make a date. Let's do Let's cancel this whole
- 2:57Speaker 3: podcast and make a date right now.
- 2:58Speaker 1: We have to leave you, guys. I'm sorry. Actually I
- 3:03Speaker 1: really want to talk about this movie.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Oh, I do too. I know you don't want to
- 3:07Speaker 3: have a date.
- 3:07Speaker 4: That's fine.
- 3:08Speaker 1: No, I do want to have a date. I do.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I do.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I do not even close to the quickest date has
- 3:12Speaker 3: been called off in my life. So have you been
- 3:17Speaker 3: watching any films lately, my friend, I have been.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I was on a flight and I watched the newer
- 3:25Speaker 1: film featuring Brendan Frazier called Rental Family.
- 3:30Speaker 3: I haven't checked this out yet, but it looked pretty
- 3:32Speaker 3: cute and compelling.
- 3:34Speaker 1: It did, and I was having like I needed some
- 3:37Speaker 1: motivation to watch it, and it was kind of the
- 3:40Speaker 1: only thing that interested me on the flight. So I
- 3:42Speaker 1: was kind of happy I was in that position because
- 3:45Speaker 1: I really enjoyed it.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Oh that's great. I feel like I didn't hear much.
- 3:49Speaker 4: About it, which is weird.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Almost nothing about that interesting. It's very interesting. He plays
- 3:55Speaker 1: an out of work actor who has moved to Japan,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and he gets a gig where he's hired to play
- 4:03Speaker 1: a pretend family member, and other people will hire him
- 4:08Speaker 1: to be somebody that he's not like one time he
- 4:12Speaker 1: has to be a fake husband to help someone make
- 4:15Speaker 1: a family event less. Awkward. Sure, and several other situations
- 4:20Speaker 1: and some get pretty emotional. But I thought it was
- 4:24Speaker 1: really well done. He was wonderful. He just seems like
- 4:28Speaker 1: such a great dude. Yeah, and it comes across in
- 4:32Speaker 1: this character too. It was funny and it was heartwarming,
- 4:35Speaker 1: and I'd super recommend it. I really enjoyed it.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Nice I have. I've also had hesitancy around that one,
- 4:42Speaker 3: but I've always been like I should, so this will,
- 4:44Speaker 3: this will get me there.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I don't think he'll be disappointed if you.
- 4:47Speaker 3: If you check it out, it looks cute.
- 4:49Speaker 4: I like it.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Okay, nice, What have you been watching? I saw a
- 4:53Speaker 3: film that I believe you talked about seeing already, But
- 4:57Speaker 3: forgive me if I'm mistaken. I saw centil.
- 5:01Speaker 4: M.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah, when you're in Hawaii, that's right, That's what it was,
- 5:06Speaker 3: when you're delayed flight or whatever, right exactly. I really
- 5:12Speaker 3: liked this movie. I will say you were totally right
- 5:16Speaker 3: about the like the gore and stuff like, it's so
- 5:20Speaker 3: silly looking that it's it's almost easier to deal with
- 5:25Speaker 3: in a weird way. But man, I really enjoyed this.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I thought it was this is a story for folks
- 5:31Speaker 3: who don't know about. Rachel mccadams is like a kind
- 5:34Speaker 3: of you were right as well, a frumpy looking young
- 5:37Speaker 3: lady in this movie.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I couldn't believe it in the beginning. She kind of
- 5:41Speaker 1: grossed me out in the beginning.
- 5:42Speaker 3: It's ridiculous because she's like one of the most beautiful
- 5:45Speaker 3: people we have on this planet. But yeah, they did
- 5:48Speaker 3: a good job and she's like this kind of rock
- 5:52Speaker 3: star worker, but is like awkward and just you know,
- 5:55Speaker 3: not it doesn't play like the politics game well maybe
- 5:58Speaker 3: or something.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Dylan O'Brien is like the son of the company's own
- 6:04Speaker 3: founder or whatever, and he kind of is taking over
- 6:09Speaker 3: and it doesn't dig her and they're actually very mean
- 6:13Speaker 3: to her.
- 6:14Speaker 1: They are.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and anyway, blah blah blah blah blah. They get
- 6:18Speaker 3: in a plane accident, they are stranded on a deserted island,
- 6:24Speaker 3: and she kind of flourishes and it goes nuts from there.
- 6:29Speaker 3: I thought it was really fun. What a fun part
- 6:32Speaker 3: for her to get to play so good. I felt
- 6:35Speaker 3: like she must have just had a blast doing this
- 6:37Speaker 3: because she's insane but also funny, and you know, it's
- 6:41Speaker 3: just it's so so good. But I if you like
- 6:44Speaker 3: a horror film, or not even really a horror but
- 6:47Speaker 3: just like kind of a thrillery I don't know, horror
- 6:50Speaker 3: adjacent for sure, and you're okay with some gross stuff,
- 6:53Speaker 3: you're really gonna enjoy this because it's a it's a
- 6:55Speaker 3: wild ride, for sure.
- 6:57Speaker 1: It was. Can I tell you. I wasn't super excited
- 7:01Speaker 1: to watch that movie when I was about to cross.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Yeah, think about that. You're like, cool, boy, maybe you
- 7:09Speaker 3: should have rethought that.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah, we're just gonna go over the Pacific. I was
- 7:13Speaker 1: just like, maybe maybe we don't do this movie.
- 7:16Speaker 3: And you were in your private jet, which is obviously
- 7:19Speaker 3: very close to what they' that.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Is what they were doing. That is not what I
- 7:24Speaker 1: was doing.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Yeah, that's fair, that's fair.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it was in the shop.
- 7:28Speaker 4: That's the only reason.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yep, yep. Maybe you just feels so expensive. I just said,
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'll just fly commercial.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Yeah that's fine.
- 7:34Speaker 4: It's fine. I can be a regular person from Rice.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But I saw it in the theater. I assume it'll
- 7:40Speaker 3: be streaming at some point, so it's gotta be because
- 7:43Speaker 3: it's been out for like a minute now. But yeah, yeah,
- 7:46Speaker 3: I really liked it. Like we have said, Dylan O'Brien,
- 7:50Speaker 3: he's he's my new favor Yeah, me too, man, And
- 7:53Speaker 3: Rachel McAdams is just an Alzheimer.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So al Teimer love art.
- 7:58Speaker 3: What have you been streaming?
- 8:00Speaker 1: I finished season three of Shrinking, which is on Apple
- 8:05Speaker 1: TV plus.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Oh I haven't finished it yet. Wait did I finish it?
- 8:09Speaker 3: I can't remember, who knows? I just I just did
- 8:11Speaker 3: it so fun. I'm still loving the show. I did
- 8:15Speaker 3: feel like this season was maybe a little sadder than
- 8:18Speaker 3: some of the others. I feel like I went through maybe.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It was like five six seven or six seven eight,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and I felt like every episode was super sad, and
- 8:29Speaker 1: they were all different plot points that were making you
- 8:32Speaker 1: super sad. So I don't know what that's all about.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I sort of got the feeling that this might
- 8:39Speaker 3: be the like, are they nearing the end of the
- 8:42Speaker 3: overall story and so this is the like extra lull
- 8:46Speaker 3: to them.
- 8:47Speaker 4: We're going to come out of it.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Now maybe or something I don't know, etceter. How many
- 8:51Speaker 3: more seasons of this?
- 8:52Speaker 4: I guess they could probably.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I mean they're going to lose They're going to lose
- 8:55Speaker 1: the daughter because she is going to be going to college.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So I don't know they did. They did add some
- 9:04Speaker 1: some folks this year. They added Candice Bergen and she
- 9:09Speaker 1: had a really funny bit. I'm not sure if Jeff
- 9:13Speaker 1: Daniels was before this season or not, but he's definitely
- 9:17Speaker 1: in it a lot more.
- 9:17Speaker 3: This was the biggest he been in it for sure. Yeah,
- 9:20Speaker 3: I'm with you. I think he might have been.
- 9:22Speaker 1: New this season, but yeah, he might have been. I
- 9:24Speaker 1: just don't remember yet. Yeah.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Same.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But I love this core cast of like Jason Siegel
- 9:30Speaker 1: and Harrison Ford and Jessica Williams. I've become a huge
- 9:33Speaker 1: fan of Jessica.
- 9:34Speaker 3: She's the best.
- 9:35Speaker 1: She is so much fun and her and Harrison Ford
- 9:40Speaker 1: playing off each other is just something I never knew.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Right, the magic we needed? Right? Yeah, so good? Yeah,
- 9:47Speaker 3: I love it.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm a huge fan of that, so big fan of
- 9:51Speaker 1: the show in general. It's on Apple TV Plus. If
- 9:53Speaker 1: you're not watching three great seasons of TV, you should be.
- 9:57Speaker 4: It's great.
- 9:58Speaker 1: What about you?
- 10:01Speaker 3: I saw on what was It? On Hulu Hulu Mike
- 10:05Speaker 3: and Nick and Nick and Alice. I watched this film.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I just watched it.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yeah, it just I think maybe last week or something
- 10:14Speaker 3: or pretty recently. Anyway, this is a crazy story about
- 10:20Speaker 3: there's some like time traveling components. There is some folks
- 10:25Speaker 3: that are in sort of like organized crimey stuff. But
- 10:30Speaker 3: the people in it are all awesome. It's Vince Vaughan
- 10:33Speaker 3: and James Marsden and Isaac Gonzalez. We got Keith David
- 10:38Speaker 3: in there. Yeah, Jimmy Tatros in there.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Who He's so ridiculous.
- 10:43Speaker 3: He's so funny in everything, and it was he continues
- 10:47Speaker 3: to be, and then a bunch of other smaller parts too,
- 10:51Speaker 3: of people coming in. I sent a textuff to some
- 10:54Speaker 3: group thread while or after I had watched it, and
- 10:56Speaker 3: I was like, man, Hulu really went deep into like
- 11:00Speaker 3: every show they have, into the stable because we had
- 11:04Speaker 3: Emily Hampshire from Shit's Creek in there, Schwartz was in there.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I forget who else I saw that.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Ben Schwartz was so funny and small role.
- 11:15Speaker 3: It's incredible, incredible, truly, But this movie was really it
- 11:20Speaker 3: was really fun. It's kind of dumb, right, but it was.
- 11:24Speaker 3: It's an action flick. It's there's a lot of funny lines.
- 11:27Speaker 3: I thought this was one of the funnier things I've
- 11:30Speaker 3: seen Vince Vaughnen in a minute, which has been which
- 11:33Speaker 3: was welcome.
- 11:34Speaker 4: James Marston is just the best.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So yeah, he's killing a bunch.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Of stuff lately too, which is bright. Yeah, I really
- 11:43Speaker 3: liked it. I thought that chemistry between all of them
- 11:45Speaker 3: was super good. It's funny, it's a good time. It's
- 11:49Speaker 3: not like serious or like you know, capital a art
- 11:53Speaker 3: or anything, but you're gonna have a great time.
- 11:55Speaker 1: So pretty over the top violent if that's a good point.
- 11:59Speaker 3: I'm not always very sensitive to that because that doesn't,
- 12:02Speaker 3: you know, bug me. But that's a good point because
- 12:04Speaker 3: there's some crazy stuff that happens, for sure. Yeah, but yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 3: I liked it as far as like an action comedy
- 12:11Speaker 3: type film.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And straight to stream. I think I'm glad that I
- 12:15Speaker 1: didn't see it in the theater. But it's a great streamer, agreed.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but if you got you know, and it's what
- 12:20Speaker 3: an hour forty seven, so you got a little bit
- 12:23Speaker 3: of time check it out.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Dude. In that Stephen Root cameo, oh my god, it
- 12:29Speaker 1: is incredible, and then right after that another huge cameo, Yes,
- 12:33Speaker 1: yeah he's the best. Oh so funny.
- 12:36Speaker 3: But yeah, it was just oh the other one I
- 12:38Speaker 3: was thinking of the from the Stable, they had one
- 12:41Speaker 3: of the hockey players from Letterkenny is on there. He's
- 12:45Speaker 3: the gas station attendant that he talks to. Okay, yes, anyway,
- 12:50Speaker 3: it's not like a huge part or anything, but I
- 12:52Speaker 3: was just like, dang, Hulu is hooking up quite a
- 12:54Speaker 3: bit though.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Yeah that's true.
- 12:55Speaker 3: He had he had quite a few lines and stuff.
- 12:58Speaker 3: But yeah, it was just it was funny to see.
- 13:00Speaker 3: But yeah, check it out Mike and Nick and Nick
- 13:03Speaker 3: and Dallas and might not be the last time we
- 13:05Speaker 3: see that crew.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Who knows, who knows?
- 13:09Speaker 3: What do you think should do? If you plug our uns?

- 14:09Speaker 1: that pertains to the movie we're talking about. And for
- 14:12Speaker 1: this one, Bukes came up with a fun one. We're
- 14:15Speaker 1: doing our top five favorite movie Scientist Scientists.
- 14:20Speaker 3: There are so many.
- 14:23Speaker 1: So many. I didn't go crazy, yep, I got my
- 14:28Speaker 1: list and moved on.
- 14:29Speaker 3: But that I feel like that means I'm gonna miss.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Some and I feel like I only like thought of
- 14:33Speaker 1: outside of the list, like of one other one. Oh yeah,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I think I'm only going to have one that you
- 14:40Speaker 1: don't have.
- 14:41Speaker 3: That might be true. I thought of a bunch and
- 14:43Speaker 3: then but you're right. I did see them on the
- 14:45Speaker 3: varioust things that were happening around so museum. But it'll
- 14:49Speaker 3: be fun, it'll be fun, it'll be fun. Well, we
- 14:53Speaker 3: are here today to talk about a great film from
- 14:56Speaker 3: this very year, not even a month old, I don't
- 14:59Speaker 3: think yet. Uh. We're here to talk a little project
- 15:02Speaker 3: Hail Mary with you, and we're so so excited. And
- 15:08Speaker 3: we had to get a couple of our old pals
- 15:10Speaker 3: here with us today. The Hound and the Fox are
- 15:14Speaker 3: joining us. We're so excited that they were interested in
- 15:17Speaker 3: this movie. So yes, let's give it up for them.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Let's give it up a rally and can what's up?
- 15:24Speaker 1: Guys, Hello fellows, it's so fun to have you both here.
- 15:31Speaker 6: The best all there's just now well enough where it's
- 15:33Speaker 6: like you stay with an auntie and it'll be okay, all.
- 15:37Speaker 7: Right, maybe maybe it might be all here.
- 15:40Speaker 6: We'll hear from Auntie later whether it was actually okay,
- 15:42Speaker 6: but we're gonna we're here, both of us.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Yeah, thanks for having us, Oh my god, of course,
- 15:48Speaker 3: we always love having you.
- 15:49Speaker 1: The pleasure is ours.
- 15:51Speaker 6: It's been a minute. When was the last one we
- 15:53Speaker 6: both were on? Maybe like a Halloween thing or something.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I don't think it was Halloween because you guys had
- 15:57Speaker 3: all your decora, yes I did, shared.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Was it though?
- 16:01Speaker 6: Is it the newer hocus Pocus?
- 16:03Speaker 1: Maybe stop it?
- 16:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 16:04Speaker 6: Probably that, Yeah, I think that because of our our
- 16:07Speaker 6: spooky music we do.
- 16:08Speaker 1: And I think we did like a movie game night,
- 16:10Speaker 1: like a Halloween movie game night. Maybe it was that
- 16:14Speaker 1: same who knows?
- 16:15Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 16:16Speaker 1: Remember you're here now?
- 16:18Speaker 3: I remember.
- 16:19Speaker 4: I had a great time.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah, always always do.
- 16:23Speaker 7: I can't remember anything, but it was so fun.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Fun, so fun. How have you guys been? What's new?
- 16:31Speaker 3: What's happening?
- 16:34Speaker 5: Just that parenting life mostly that'll take up ninety nine
- 16:40Speaker 5: percent of your time.
- 16:43Speaker 7: We're so grateful for it.
- 16:45Speaker 5: But yeah, we we work quote air quotes from home.
- 16:51Speaker 7: Mostly. Our children are in charge.
- 16:55Speaker 6: They dictate how much we get done.
- 16:56Speaker 3: For sure.
- 16:57Speaker 6: They're the bosses, that's for sure.
- 16:59Speaker 7: But we do me ya when we can, and yeah
- 17:02Speaker 7: you do.
- 17:03Speaker 5: And videos you know with off screen you can't see
- 17:06Speaker 5: or hear that there's a child screaming.
- 17:08Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, that's the recent The most recent video
- 17:12Speaker 6: shoot over at the coast was it was mostly Kens
- 17:16Speaker 6: on camera and so I've got a screaming one year
- 17:18Speaker 6: old in the front pack while trying to handheld a
- 17:21Speaker 6: camera while while Rowan and Cyprus are fully running and
- 17:26Speaker 6: jumping into like sandy tidepools at the beach like it was.
- 17:31Speaker 5: We were supposed to have a babysitter and she for
- 17:35Speaker 5: very good reason couldn't come, but we had already booked
- 17:38Speaker 5: everything we're going to do it, so we were.
- 17:40Speaker 8: Alive and it was it was a lot behind the
- 17:46Speaker 8: scene clips are just me stressing hard while all their
- 17:49Speaker 8: cries and me try.
- 17:50Speaker 6: To and then it turned out gorgeous.
- 17:51Speaker 3: So we somehow for his shots and he's just sweating.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Was we didn't know. We didn't even film my stuff there.
- 17:58Speaker 6: We were like, nope, we're not We're just go and
- 18:01Speaker 6: then we my stuff by a campfire at home.
- 18:03Speaker 7: One of my favorite comments was like the song is.
- 18:06Speaker 5: Beautiful, and you know a lot of people have commented
- 18:10Speaker 5: that and that's all great, but I really wanted to
- 18:13Speaker 5: give a moment to the videographers of this, like whoever
- 18:16Speaker 5: did the visuals. And I was laughing because I'm like,
- 18:19Speaker 5: that was also us and it wasn't pretty, but glad.
- 18:25Speaker 3: You like it.
- 18:26Speaker 1: That's so fun.
- 18:29Speaker 3: And you guys just were released the am for Trite,
- 18:32Speaker 3: the Adam Chance original, right.
- 18:34Speaker 6: Yes, we did, and that's the video shoot we're talking about.
- 18:37Speaker 6: I was the shoot, yep. I didn't want to step
- 18:38Speaker 6: on your yeah, and it was Yeah, such a gorgeous song.
- 18:43Speaker 6: I mean you, it's really special to you. Yeah.
- 18:46Speaker 5: Well, Adam released it. We got you know, special sneak previews.
- 18:51Speaker 5: I'm sure you guys do.
- 18:53Speaker 7: But let's just.
- 18:57Speaker 5: And right away that song it out from his album.
- 19:02Speaker 5: I was pregnant at the time with my first daughter,
- 19:06Speaker 5: you know, our Only Girl, and just the songs themes
- 19:10Speaker 5: of like women empowerment and you know, little feminine.
- 19:14Speaker 6: Rage and female that she labored to this.
- 19:24Speaker 7: So I just was like, this is me and my
- 19:26Speaker 7: daughter's song.
- 19:27Speaker 6: It's really special. She's she is a like absolute fish,
- 19:32Speaker 6: we call her, we nicknamed her like a water creature,
- 19:35Speaker 6: all these things. So like this baby freaking loves the
- 19:38Speaker 6: water and this song is about the like queen of
- 19:40Speaker 6: the sea, so it was just like really where it
- 19:43Speaker 6: made a lot of sense to do. And and then
- 19:45Speaker 6: obviously covering in the song of Adams like he's like family,
- 19:48Speaker 6: you know.
- 19:48Speaker 7: So yeah, and it was a fun and he was surprised.
- 19:51Speaker 6: He was so nice and like chuffed about it. And
- 19:54Speaker 6: then we actually released a video and we were with
- 19:56Speaker 6: him in Disneyland. He and Sammy came and hung out
- 19:59Speaker 6: of disney Land with us the day that released, and
- 20:02Speaker 6: it was like a fun little release. He was sitting there,
- 20:05Speaker 6: he and Samuy're at the table with me and uh, yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 6: it's a very fun release. So if if anyone hasn't
- 20:11Speaker 6: seen it, it's really beautiful. Ken sounds amazing in it.
- 20:13Speaker 6: The video turned out really great.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Love it. Yeah, I love all of that.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Yeah, your guys stuff that was so great. How fucksmusic
- 20:24Speaker 3: dot com guys, check out everything they have going.
- 20:27Speaker 6: Yeah, it's the best.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Love it. Well, we're here today to talk a little project.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Hail Mary. Well, I think we should get right into it.
- 20:35Speaker 3: What do you guys think? Should we have Rob hit
- 20:37Speaker 3: us with a rough SYNOPSI hit us, let's do it.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Science teacher Ryland Grace wakes up on a spaceship with
- 20:44Speaker 1: no recollection of who he is or how he got there.
- 20:48Speaker 1: As his memory slowly returns, he soon discovers he must
- 20:52Speaker 1: solve the riddle behind a mysterious substance that's causing the
- 20:56Speaker 1: sun to die out. As details of the mission unravel,
- 21:00Speaker 1: he calls on his scientific training and sheer ingenuity, but
- 21:04Speaker 1: he may not have to do it alone.
- 21:09Speaker 6: I like the vibrato on may may do you sing
- 21:15Speaker 6: years of training.
- 21:16Speaker 1: For them time, just the ones, just the ones, one
- 21:19Speaker 1: and done one time.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I love that great repeal, arazy.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Let's go to rotten to models near what they have
- 21:25Speaker 3: to say. Critics have this coming in at a pretty
- 21:27Speaker 3: okay five percent.
- 21:30Speaker 1: That wow, okay, wow okay.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Audience members a tick above that. They have it at
- 21:37Speaker 3: ninety six percent.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Dang, the same thing, it's left. It is beloved.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Yes, I love that.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Let's go hear what we think. It's time for our
- 21:54Speaker 3: hot take.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Take that's a hot take.
- 21:58Speaker 6: That's a hot take.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Spicy, yeah atmosphere.
- 22:07Speaker 4: I love it.
- 22:09Speaker 3: I love this film. I'll go first. I love this
- 22:12Speaker 3: film a ton. We've talked about reading the book in
- 22:15Speaker 3: the past it's amazing. I just I love everything about
- 22:21Speaker 3: the story. I think it's super fun. The part that
- 22:24Speaker 3: really struck me. I've seen it a few times now
- 22:27Speaker 3: because you know, I don't have the kids, so I.
- 22:29Speaker 6: Just watch number three, Baby, here we go.
- 22:35Speaker 3: I did see it three times, actually fun one and
- 22:41Speaker 3: I reread the book after I saw the first.
- 22:43Speaker 7: My god, stuff's happening.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I don't have a lot going on. But the thing
- 22:50Speaker 3: I love about about this, uh, this story and this
- 22:55Speaker 3: movie particularly is how just unbridledly or what is the
- 23:00Speaker 3: right word, I don't know, brid it is sheer optimism
- 23:04Speaker 3: in this book, and I really like that it really
- 23:08Speaker 3: shows the best in humanity. You know, we're not flawless,
- 23:12Speaker 3: we do make mistakes, but people really are working towards
- 23:17Speaker 3: a collective goal in this and beyond humanity, right like
- 23:21Speaker 3: the Iridians. I think it shows the goodness that I
- 23:25Speaker 3: believe exists throughout everything, right, which I think is really
- 23:29Speaker 3: great and wonderful and you know, maybe more necessary than ever.
- 23:33Speaker 3: But I loved this adaptation. I was like, the first
- 23:37Speaker 3: time I read this book, I was like, boy, can
- 23:39Speaker 3: they make a movie out of this? Because it'd be fun?
- 23:41Speaker 3: But also, how are they going to do it with
- 23:43Speaker 3: WICKI and like they killed it. It's nearly perfect in
- 23:49Speaker 3: my mind. There are some slight differences that I know
- 23:52Speaker 3: will come up between the book and the film. I
- 23:55Speaker 3: don't really have any giant qualms with any of them.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I thought they played it off really well well. Things
- 24:01Speaker 3: that worked in the book wouln't have worked, you know
- 24:02Speaker 3: here maybe, And I just thought they did a wonderful,
- 24:07Speaker 3: wonderful job with it. And the sort of theme of
- 24:11Speaker 3: like we move and change through life, the like reluctant
- 24:16Speaker 3: hero that you know doesn't necessarily want it, the like
- 24:19Speaker 3: sort of to me, the ethos line of you just
- 24:22Speaker 3: have to find someone worth being brave for, and he
- 24:25Speaker 3: finds that in Rocky. Like, I just I love all
- 24:28Speaker 3: that stuff. I think it's beautifully shot. I think it's
- 24:32Speaker 3: so funny. I can't believe I didn't say how funny
- 24:35Speaker 3: it was until right now, because it's hilarious, the music's great.
- 24:40Speaker 3: I just I love everything about it. I just think
- 24:42Speaker 3: this is a great films. And my hottest take is
- 24:49Speaker 3: a selfish one. We really have to get some more
- 24:53Speaker 3: stores that have merchandise for movies on hand, because I
- 24:57Speaker 3: desperately tried to get a Project tail Mary shirt, and
- 25:00Speaker 3: it was just too late to have it arrived for
- 25:02Speaker 3: today and I was about it, so I will be
- 25:04Speaker 3: getting one.
- 25:05Speaker 6: But I've seen so many ads on my Facebook, like
- 25:08Speaker 6: reels for for like you know, really cool rocky art
- 25:13Speaker 6: and you know, like and stuff. But yeah, I'd never
- 25:15Speaker 6: trigger on it.
- 25:16Speaker 5: My sister sent me a meme, uh and it was
- 25:20Speaker 5: just a post and it said girls only want one thing,
- 25:24Speaker 5: and it's the sweater that Ryan Gosling is wearing and.
- 25:28Speaker 6: And I'm the Fox or the other way it looksch looking.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of those clothes on the Project tail
- 25:39Speaker 3: Mary website, you can they have the actual Fox sweater
- 25:43Speaker 3: like and stuff. But I won't get here before we
- 25:47Speaker 3: record today before currently, But yes, I love this movie
- 25:52Speaker 3: and that's my hotestake.
- 25:53Speaker 1: That's a hot take, buddy. You said many of the
- 25:56Speaker 1: things that I thought as well. I loved this movie.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I was also a big fan of the novel and
- 26:02Speaker 1: a big fan of his previous work. The Martian Andy
- 26:06Speaker 1: Weir just kills it. I think it's crazy that both
- 26:10Speaker 1: of his books were turned into great films. I feel
- 26:14Speaker 1: like that doesn't happen all the time. He's two for
- 26:16Speaker 1: two and I don't think it's a coincidence that Drew
- 26:20Speaker 1: Goddard he adapted both of those films. He does a
- 26:24Speaker 1: great job, uses a lot of humor. He did some
- 26:27Speaker 1: of the Joss Whedon shows and Cabin in the Woods,
- 26:30Speaker 1: so it makes sense.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I didn't really to that.
- 26:33Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Nice.
- 26:35Speaker 1: It's directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who've also
- 26:38Speaker 1: done the Lego movie and the like twenty one and
- 26:42Speaker 1: twenty two Jump Street, so they do very, very funny
- 26:46Speaker 1: things as well, so it makes it makes a lot
- 26:48Speaker 1: of sense. But yeah, I was also very impressed with
- 26:52Speaker 1: how they were able to turn Rocky into life. I
- 26:55Speaker 1: remember reading the novel and thinking how would they be
- 26:58Speaker 1: able to pull that off? But they somehow gave this
- 27:01Speaker 1: faceless alien personality and you can still sense its emotions,
- 27:06Speaker 1: and it's just it was brilliant. I was so impressed
- 27:09Speaker 1: with that. I cannot imagine anyone else playing Ryland Grace
- 27:15Speaker 1: than Ryan Gosling. He was perfect, killed it AA and
- 27:20Speaker 1: the super small supporting cast crushed it. They were great
- 27:24Speaker 1: and I'm not the only one loving this movie. It's
- 27:26Speaker 1: currently number eighty on the IMDb Top two fifty.
- 27:30Speaker 6: Wow, really, you don't see him like a modern movie
- 27:33Speaker 6: crack in like super often that.
- 27:42Speaker 1: But yeah, all the things you said my hot take.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I feel like this is this generation's e T look
- 27:50Speaker 1: at you. That's my hottest take, spicey'tich my god, I
- 27:59Speaker 1: love it.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Well, you guys are just so eloquent, and it's hard.
- 28:06Speaker 7: It's a tough fact to follow. But I so I'm
- 28:08Speaker 7: going to begin by.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Saying, yes, all that, I agree. I was going to
- 28:14Speaker 5: say exactly the same way as both of you said it.
- 28:20Speaker 5: I don't know how you got my notes, but but
- 28:27Speaker 5: I want to say, I don't know if this is allowed,
- 28:30Speaker 5: so you have to cut it out later. But my
- 28:34Speaker 5: sister recommended that I read this book. And she's a
- 28:39Speaker 5: big fan of not giving any she likes to go
- 28:43Speaker 5: and completely blind and yeah, so she didn't give me
- 28:48Speaker 5: any context.
- 28:49Speaker 7: And I'm like, I don't know, I don't like the name.
- 28:51Speaker 5: It sounds like a sports thing, Like I just like,
- 28:53Speaker 5: I don't know what's going on, and yeah, that's probably
- 29:01Speaker 5: I'm sure why, Like I don't know enough about football,
- 29:03Speaker 5: but I was like, it sounds football, Yeah, crazy pass
- 29:07Speaker 5: the entire ye.
- 29:08Speaker 1: It sounds football.
- 29:10Speaker 7: But she said that she loved it and then she
- 29:13Speaker 7: said she recommended it to my dad and he loved it.
- 29:16Speaker 5: And I was like, this is a really interesting group
- 29:19Speaker 5: of people that like this and my dad and Kelsey,
- 29:26Speaker 5: Hi Dad, if you're listening.
- 29:27Speaker 7: That was the thing. I wasn't sure if you were allowed.
- 29:28Speaker 5: To give a special shout out to my Dad'll be
- 29:32Speaker 5: so excited to be mentioned because he loved the book
- 29:36Speaker 5: and movie.
- 29:38Speaker 7: And so anyway, when she said.
- 29:40Speaker 5: That, I was just like, I that alone, just the
- 29:45Speaker 5: you know that she loved it and he loved it,
- 29:48Speaker 5: and then there was like one other person she told
- 29:50Speaker 5: me that loved it, and it was such unique, different
- 29:52Speaker 5: people in different phases of their life and with different interests.
- 29:56Speaker 5: I thought, okay, that must mean something, and so that's
- 30:00Speaker 5: I read it, and then I made Riley read it
- 30:03Speaker 5: forced I'm just kidding and no he I just gave
- 30:08Speaker 5: him just enough, okay. Unfortunately, he had seen all of the.
- 30:13Speaker 6: Some of the trailers. I saw the very first trailer
- 30:16Speaker 6: when it first came.
- 30:17Speaker 5: Out, but so we're recent on the reading because we
- 30:21Speaker 5: knew it was being made into a movie. But so
- 30:23Speaker 5: it was kind of also the good ADHD like hack, Oh,
- 30:26Speaker 5: I have to finish this because it's coming out in
- 30:29Speaker 5: a month also was a part of it, so we
- 30:33Speaker 5: both quickly listened that's easier for our lifestyle right now,
- 30:38Speaker 5: and then since have seen the movie to bring it
- 30:42Speaker 5: back to the movie, and I think that that little
- 30:47Speaker 5: anecdote about my family, if I could somehow make that
- 30:50Speaker 5: my hot take of like, I think this movie is
- 30:53Speaker 5: so special and important because it is bringing an audience
- 30:59Speaker 5: that's super road in the similar way that you know,
- 31:02Speaker 5: like a superhero movie could do. But it's really grounded,
- 31:05Speaker 5: even though yes it's in outer space, very far away,
- 31:08Speaker 5: and there's an alien in such human lessons and it's
- 31:18Speaker 5: just a beautiful message and something that I think we
- 31:23Speaker 5: all really need, kind of what Bugs was saying right now,
- 31:26Speaker 5: you know, just that it's in our empathy and care
- 31:31Speaker 5: for not just each other, but our earth and then
- 31:35Speaker 5: if there's other planets.
- 31:36Speaker 7: You know, and just life, that makes.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Life meaningful. So that is my hot take, is that
- 31:43Speaker 5: this movie is important and special.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Scorching, scorching hot take, nicely done.
- 31:50Speaker 6: That was pretty eloquent. I don't know that.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that was great. It was great.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:55Speaker 6: I don't read books, and I wish that I did,
- 31:57Speaker 6: because there's so many I've tried to start different books,
- 32:00Speaker 6: and I just I think is truly the ADHD. I
- 32:03Speaker 6: have such a hard time sitting and like committing to
- 32:06Speaker 6: like staring at something and like, like she said, I
- 32:11Speaker 6: saw the first trailer when it very first came out,
- 32:15Speaker 6: because it was like the high It was hyped right,
- 32:17Speaker 6: like it's beloved novel and so but I luckily did not.
- 32:23Speaker 6: All I clocked from it and like held on to
- 32:25Speaker 6: was WHOA, this looks really cool, right these visuals. I
- 32:29Speaker 6: mean they showed some of those beautiful v effects of
- 32:32Speaker 6: like the the petrov A line and like the planet
- 32:37Speaker 6: Adrian surface, and I was like, this is like giving
- 32:39Speaker 6: me interstellar vibes, and I love that this is looking
- 32:42Speaker 6: so cool. Ryan Gosling is the goat. No reason to
- 32:45Speaker 6: not see this when it comes out. I'll look into
- 32:47Speaker 6: it more later. I didn't look into it, luckily, and
- 32:49Speaker 6: I didn't remember whether or not. I so then she
- 32:53Speaker 6: sorry to move forward. She's reading it. She's listening to
- 32:56Speaker 6: the audiobook, which is absolutely incredible. The narrator is but
- 33:03Speaker 6: oh my god, it's so good and the way that
- 33:05Speaker 6: they represent Rocky's voice, like the musicality of it and
- 33:08Speaker 6: the you know, the book they layer him doing Rocky's
- 33:12Speaker 6: voice with the actual music notes, kind of like the
- 33:14Speaker 6: movie does too. It's so so audio audioly orally pleasing,
- 33:19Speaker 6: you know the way that So anyways, that set she
- 33:22Speaker 6: she suggests it, she finished it, so then I started
- 33:24Speaker 6: it and I was just absolutely sucked in right away,
- 33:29Speaker 6: and I was like, oh, this is how I need
- 33:30Speaker 6: to digest books, is listening to them. Because but the
- 33:33Speaker 6: problem is I can't multitask while doing it, So then
- 33:35Speaker 6: I'm just sitting there like sort of comatos. If I even.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Look at.
- 33:43Speaker 5: Watch this out about Riley after I recommend the book,
- 33:52Speaker 5: and I'm like, think, I'm like so motivated while I listen,
- 33:56Speaker 5: I'm like, you can do so much clean in I've
- 33:58Speaker 5: got two little kids. I'm watching and driving around doing Aaron.
- 34:03Speaker 8: It's me at one in the morning on the couch
- 34:06Speaker 8: by myself, and like, if I even look at my phone, Yeah,
- 34:13Speaker 8: but if I look at my phone, fifteen minutes goes
- 34:15Speaker 8: by and I don't know what just happened, you know
- 34:17Speaker 8: what I mean.
- 34:18Speaker 6: So but it was amazing. My god, I'm crying. So
- 34:22Speaker 6: the book was incredible. We all know this. It sounds
- 34:25Speaker 6: like we're all on the same boat. There and then
- 34:28Speaker 6: so then I start to watch like the actual trailers
- 34:31Speaker 6: because the Rocky introduction in the book, I literally like
- 34:36Speaker 6: my heart was pounding because I had no idea going
- 34:38Speaker 6: into the book. It wasn't spoiled for me from the
- 34:41Speaker 6: trailer or anything. And then it turns out to be
- 34:43Speaker 6: like the coolest best alien that's maybe ever existed in fiction,
- 34:49Speaker 6: So beyond you. That's a hot take right there. I
- 34:52Speaker 6: think Rocky is the goat of all aliens, whether it's
- 34:56Speaker 6: a villain or a you know, a comrade. But I
- 35:00Speaker 6: was so excited for the movie, and like you guys
- 35:02Speaker 6: have said, it didn't disappoint at all. It was I
- 35:05Speaker 6: think I have a couple small like gripes, but they're
- 35:09Speaker 6: really nitpicky. It you such a hard novel, I'm sure
- 35:13Speaker 6: like The Martian was too to adapt because Andy Weir
- 35:17Speaker 6: is insane with the amount of intellectual science that he
- 35:22Speaker 6: puts into his works that's still accessible. Like I never
- 35:27Speaker 6: felt like dumb reading it. Like there's all sorts that
- 35:29Speaker 6: we were talking, there's all sorts of you know, meters
- 35:31Speaker 6: per second per second and this and calculations, and he's
- 35:34Speaker 6: discovering his intelligence again through his amnesia that's really hard
- 35:38Speaker 6: to show all that in a movie in two and
- 35:41Speaker 6: a half hours. So obviously some stuff had to be
- 35:43Speaker 6: cut from a script standpoint, and I bet they even
- 35:45Speaker 6: film stuff that you know, hit the cutting room floor
- 35:48Speaker 6: just to make it more digestible for audiences. I here's
- 35:51Speaker 6: another hot take. I would have sat through four and
- 35:53Speaker 6: a half hours, so that the first four hours was
- 35:57Speaker 6: it really Yeah, dude, give me the director's cut. No,
- 35:59Speaker 6: I want to see, give me an intermission, let me
- 36:01Speaker 6: peek once, and I'm in it to When I.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Read something about it that was like they showed it.
- 36:05Speaker 3: He showed it to a bunch of like director or
- 36:07Speaker 3: they showed it to a bunch of director friends of
- 36:09Speaker 3: theirs and they were like, this is great, but also.
- 36:11Speaker 6: But also four what is this Lord of the Rings?
- 36:14Speaker 1: Directors?
- 36:16Speaker 6: So I would gladly sit through it, but it's obviously
- 36:19Speaker 6: doesn't make sense from a mass consumption standpoint. The I mean,
- 36:23Speaker 6: I wrote a couple of notes down just to keep
- 36:25Speaker 6: my thoughts collected here. I thought the vfx were like stunning,
- 36:31Speaker 6: whether that like I said, the petroval line scene was
- 36:33Speaker 6: like and then the mixture of the VFX with the
- 36:36Speaker 6: sound design incredible sound design. I cannot stress enough how
- 36:40Speaker 6: much I love when when directors get space right with
- 36:44Speaker 6: the silence of space. Yes, nothing is more intense than
- 36:48Speaker 6: the silence of space, because like it's cool.
- 36:51Speaker 3: You know.
- 36:51Speaker 6: Sometimes it's like Star Wars and there's blaster sounds and
- 36:53Speaker 6: it's not fun, it's entertaining, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 36:56Speaker 6: But when they get it right, it is so thrilling
- 36:58Speaker 6: and it is so hence. And then you juxtaposed that
- 37:01Speaker 6: with like the beautiful, incredible music and when there is
- 37:05Speaker 6: sound and everything, So that was incredible. The acting all around,
- 37:09Speaker 6: including the voice acting for Rocky was was pretty flawless.
- 37:14Speaker 6: I mean flawless. Like you guys said, it was not
- 37:16Speaker 6: a huge supporting cast, but those people that there were,
- 37:19Speaker 6: whether that's Strat or is it Carl, is this buddy
- 37:23Speaker 6: on Earth? Or like the brief little moments of the
- 37:26Speaker 6: other scientists and astronauts that we get, you know, pre
- 37:29Speaker 6: pre lift off, and just really incredible acting. And yeah,
- 37:34Speaker 6: just a gorgeous movie. Couple like my couple of minor
- 37:38Speaker 6: little like spicy takes are one. Going back to the marketing,
- 37:42Speaker 6: I feel like it was did you guys see some
- 37:46Speaker 6: of the like social media marketing for it, like just
- 37:49Speaker 6: here's Rocky. Like they just straight up it's like they
- 37:53Speaker 6: go like they go buddy cop style with with Gosling
- 37:56Speaker 6: and Rocky. I'm like, if you didn't read this book
- 37:58Speaker 6: and you were trying to go in with a fresh
- 38:01Speaker 6: pair of eyes, like spoiler alert, you know, and you
- 38:04Speaker 6: don't meet him, it's like it's like he's there right away.
- 38:06Speaker 6: There was time to build suspense for that. And I
- 38:08Speaker 6: think we were talking it's kind of the like the
- 38:10Speaker 6: instant gratification mind that the Internet is moving towards where
- 38:14Speaker 6: like if you don't capture them within the first four
- 38:17Speaker 6: seconds of marketing, they're gone. And I just wish that
- 38:19Speaker 6: they could have relied on people to like go see
- 38:22Speaker 6: it and not have spoiled that because what I felt
- 38:25Speaker 6: reading the book is what I wish I people could
- 38:28Speaker 6: feel watching the movie if they hadn't, you know what
- 38:29Speaker 6: I mean. So and that's like whatever, that didn't affect
- 38:31Speaker 6: me because I had read it, so no big deal there,
- 38:34Speaker 6: But it just felt like an interesting marketing choice to
- 38:37Speaker 6: go in like.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Right after it released.
- 38:39Speaker 6: Wait if it's a few weeks later, sure, but it
- 38:41Speaker 6: was like the day before the release.
- 38:44Speaker 1: The first trailer, they showed him knock on the window.
- 38:48Speaker 6: He didn't like what You could have gone the whole
- 38:53Speaker 6: movie without showing the whole trailer, the whole marketing, without
- 38:56Speaker 6: showing Rocky at all, and it would have been so
- 38:58Speaker 6: satisfying to get that for people.
- 39:00Speaker 3: I mean, it's gotta be one hundred and fifty pages
- 39:03Speaker 3: into the book right before.
- 39:04Speaker 6: You, So it's so far if when you first get
- 39:07Speaker 6: that blip a and it's and it's purposefully moving and
- 39:10Speaker 6: matching his motions from Afar, you're like, oh my god.
- 39:13Speaker 6: I thought the only aliens in this were non sentient,
- 39:16Speaker 6: single so particles right, Like, I had no idea it
- 39:19Speaker 6: was like an alien related movie like that or a
- 39:21Speaker 6: book like that. So another small gripe. And it's hard.
- 39:27Speaker 6: I really we were struggling, or we were talking, and
- 39:29Speaker 6: I was struggling a lot, not overly comparing the book
- 39:32Speaker 6: to the movie, because I had just finished listening, like
- 39:35Speaker 6: a couple weeks ago. She finished a month or so ago,
- 39:38Speaker 6: so it was really the book was really fresh on
- 39:40Speaker 6: my mind. So it's really hard. I wish I could
- 39:42Speaker 6: have given myself temporary amnesia, watched the movie without any
- 39:45Speaker 6: book knowledge, and then regained it, so I could have
- 39:48Speaker 6: had both experiences. But so like it's hard to not
- 39:52Speaker 6: compare things, and I understand a lot of the stuff
- 39:54Speaker 6: that they took out or changed to make it better
- 39:57Speaker 6: for the visual medium. One thing that I was I
- 40:00Speaker 6: think without the book even existing, was at the very
- 40:03Speaker 6: end on Arid I it was confusing. I felt like
- 40:08Speaker 6: a little bit why he was so ambiguous as to
- 40:13Speaker 6: potentially going potentially going home. They don't really give you
- 40:16Speaker 6: a good sense of the time, Like again in the
- 40:19Speaker 6: book Times Past, it's like sixteen years later or something
- 40:22Speaker 6: like that, like yeah, and they first get that glimpse
- 40:24Speaker 6: of the sun, and I think rocky mentions like then, hey,
- 40:26Speaker 6: you know, do you want to go home or we
- 40:28Speaker 6: can send you home? And he's like, I'm old dude,
- 40:31Speaker 6: Like I've your guys's gravity is affecting my bones, like
- 40:34Speaker 6: I don't know what I'm going back to to Earth
- 40:37Speaker 6: And they didn't need to go that far. But like,
- 40:40Speaker 6: obviously he would have aged from the travels, and obviously
- 40:43Speaker 6: he would have aged a little bit because they had
- 40:45Speaker 6: built all this infrastructure for him there and it didn't
- 40:48Speaker 6: seem like any time had passed. So that was just
- 40:49Speaker 6: a little bit like huh I was. I tilted my
- 40:52Speaker 6: head at that a little more than some of the
- 40:53Speaker 6: other things like that change, because I don't think it
- 40:55Speaker 6: would have taken away to give like two lines of
- 40:57Speaker 6: dialogue like Rocky says, you know, we fixed the Mary,
- 41:00Speaker 6: do you want to go home? And he could have
- 41:01Speaker 6: been like, I don't know, man, I don't know. I'm
- 41:03Speaker 6: going back to like you know, I think that, I
- 41:07Speaker 6: think I'm good. It's like something a little bit more
- 41:09Speaker 6: and show the age and the where because he was
- 41:12Speaker 6: so excited to potentially be able to go home when
- 41:14Speaker 6: Rocky was offering the fuel and stuff, and then that
- 41:16Speaker 6: kind of felt like where'd that go? We didn't get
- 41:19Speaker 6: just like a little bit of exposition on why he
- 41:22Speaker 6: would make that choice.
- 41:23Speaker 3: I again, the movie not as much time as passed,
- 41:25Speaker 3: because I know, but remember in the book, they don't
- 41:30Speaker 3: like the ship isn't even ready. There's just the chance
- 41:34Speaker 3: that it could be, but it's yeah, it's twenty seven
- 41:36Speaker 3: years later, I think, or something like that, and the
- 41:39Speaker 3: only way he knows. And one part I really missed
- 41:41Speaker 3: was Rocky coming to him being like, hey, our scientists
- 41:45Speaker 3: have seen yeah, we saw the light the Earth sun
- 41:47Speaker 3: is back, like you're good, you did it.
- 41:50Speaker 6: We did it, and that's this like Eureka moment, like
- 41:52Speaker 6: he it succeeded for his people that were there, but
- 41:54Speaker 6: it's too hard for him to go back and like
- 41:56Speaker 6: something Somewhere in the middle of what we got and
- 41:59Speaker 6: what that was, I feel like it was achievable and
- 42:01Speaker 6: it's okay. I'm not too worried about it.
- 42:03Speaker 3: It was only like seven years on this as opposed
- 42:08Speaker 3: to twenty seven, because I think they're trying to say
- 42:12Speaker 3: the like Euler part is happening at the same time,
- 42:15Speaker 3: and that's about the right time.
- 42:17Speaker 6: Yeah, it took so less time passing, but yeah, right,
- 42:20Speaker 6: and then and then we get we as the viewers
- 42:22Speaker 6: get to see Earth in which that edition I loved.
- 42:28Speaker 6: I almost wanted that in the book. That was the
- 42:31Speaker 6: only thing I wanted from the book that it didn't give.
- 42:33Speaker 6: But they let us know that the sun's back, so
- 42:35Speaker 6: then we get to imagine what it's like. For the movie,
- 42:37Speaker 6: it was great seeing that sort of aged upstrat and
- 42:40Speaker 6: the cold Earth and all these things. So that was
- 42:42Speaker 6: fine too. Yeah, did I have any no see, because
- 42:46Speaker 6: like I was, like, I wish I love the science
- 42:48Speaker 6: of it, but I understand they can't spend as much
- 42:49Speaker 6: time on it, so they need to They got to
- 42:52Speaker 6: move the plot forward and not keep stopping for science stuff.
- 42:54Speaker 6: But like, I loved his erratic writing, and I loved
- 42:58Speaker 6: the similar to the Martian the like video dialogue or
- 43:01Speaker 6: the video journal. Sorry diary was a great way to
- 43:04Speaker 6: give us that little bit of first person that you
- 43:06Speaker 6: get from the book without fully having like an inner
- 43:08Speaker 6: monologue the whole time. And then the tiny thing is
- 43:11Speaker 6: like I was like, really weird about that. They gave
- 43:14Speaker 6: Carl the like sentence that triggers his thought of that
- 43:21Speaker 6: Venus has CO two and it's that's the atmosphere of
- 43:24Speaker 6: Venus early in the movie.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Sure, I was like, that's weird.
- 43:27Speaker 6: I loved Carl and I love their Their relationship was
- 43:31Speaker 6: like pre rocky friendship, like his one friend on Earth
- 43:33Speaker 6: that he's ever seeming we had, who then kind of
- 43:36Speaker 6: betrays him also later, So it was like that was great,
- 43:39Speaker 6: But I'm like, why did this guy get to like
- 43:41Speaker 6: say the comment that Ryland's like such a smart guy.
- 43:43Speaker 6: He should have had that moment himself. Super tiny thing.
- 43:47Speaker 6: It was just like a little a little irk that
- 43:49Speaker 6: I had that I was confused about.
- 43:52Speaker 1: But did they even have Carl in the book? I
- 43:54Speaker 1: don't remember.
- 43:55Speaker 6: There were there were henchmen. There were like the henchman guys,
- 43:58Speaker 6: but they weren't as significant and as Carl was in this.
- 44:01Speaker 6: In the movie, they were just Carl the character is
- 44:03Speaker 6: in there is he in it? Did he have the
- 44:06Speaker 6: same role as like? He wasn't as pretty close? I
- 44:10Speaker 6: felt like it wasn't as close as they portrayed it
- 44:12Speaker 6: in the movie. But either way, either way, it's tiny nitpicks.
- 44:16Speaker 6: Those are like it was absolutely beautiful. It's a ten
- 44:19Speaker 6: out of ten. I would have given it eleven out
- 44:21Speaker 6: of ten if I hadn't read the book too, because
- 44:23Speaker 6: then I wouldn't have all those comparisons looming in my
- 44:26Speaker 6: neurotic brain.
- 44:27Speaker 3: But sorry, the guy in the book, his name is Steve.
- 44:32Speaker 3: Carl is an amalgamation of Steve and a couple other
- 44:34Speaker 3: background players.
- 44:35Speaker 6: Okay, I like that. I like that because it gives
- 44:38Speaker 6: it gives Ryland someone to latch onto. But yeah, I
- 44:42Speaker 6: mean they changed his name to Carl Carl great, Yeah, why.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Not go with Steve?
- 44:47Speaker 6: I mean, yeah, just beautiful what they focused on in
- 44:50Speaker 6: lieu of the extra science and all that stuff was
- 44:53Speaker 6: the character development and the relationship between like Ryland and
- 44:56Speaker 6: Rocky and how deep that was, and like and and
- 45:00Speaker 6: Grace's like emotions ran a little more surface level, like
- 45:06Speaker 6: we got to see a wider range of emotions I
- 45:08Speaker 6: feel like visually from Gosling, and it was.
- 45:10Speaker 4: It was great.
- 45:11Speaker 6: I mean I want to watch it again and again
- 45:13Speaker 6: and again.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so good, nice hot take. I love it.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Well, let's go talk about our favorite active performance. Shall
- 45:22Speaker 3: we name the dude?
- 45:24Speaker 1: Dude?
- 45:25Speaker 9: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you
- 45:28Speaker 9: know that, or his dude or duder or you know
- 45:34Speaker 9: el doud reno. If you're not into the whole brevity thing.
- 45:37Speaker 3: All right, who wants to go first?
- 45:39Speaker 5: Sorry, I can't help. If you know, if there's words
- 45:42Speaker 5: in front of me, I have to read them. That's
- 45:43Speaker 5: just a rule.
- 45:45Speaker 7: Like brochures.
- 45:47Speaker 3: I'm like, give me read it all, give me brocher
- 45:51Speaker 3: You look at timeshare salesman's dream, put it.
- 45:54Speaker 1: In the pamphlet, give me the pamphlet.
- 45:58Speaker 6: Words.
- 45:59Speaker 3: Ken's was like, I love Vegas.
- 46:01Speaker 5: But only because give me so many things to read,
- 46:06Speaker 5: free books. Okay, the dude, I'm going okay, I mean,
- 46:13Speaker 5: I mean.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I get enough said.
- 46:17Speaker 5: I mean, I am going to be really original here
- 46:20Speaker 5: because no one's picked it yet, so I'm going to
- 46:24Speaker 5: go ahead and say Ryland Grace.
- 46:25Speaker 7: Do I say the actor's name.
- 46:27Speaker 6: Ryan the Baby A beautiful man.
- 46:38Speaker 5: Yeah, he was perfect. I did know he was playing
- 46:44Speaker 5: Ryland while I was reading, so it was nice because
- 46:46Speaker 5: I could just like picture him and it was so
- 46:49Speaker 5: easy to picture him, and then he played it even
- 46:52Speaker 5: better than I could have imagined. Like you said, so
- 46:55Speaker 5: much more emotion shown. And I really I don't know,
- 47:02Speaker 5: you know how this movie will do with like awards
- 47:06Speaker 5: and stuff, because I feel like sometimes when they're a
- 47:09Speaker 5: little bit silly, they don't get taken as seriously, which
- 47:12Speaker 5: I think is unfortunate. But I would love to see
- 47:15Speaker 5: Ryan gossling like when someone awards for this.
- 47:17Speaker 7: So that's yeah, that's what.
- 47:19Speaker 1: I love that.
- 47:20Speaker 3: I presume he'll get nominated and he can win Best
- 47:23Speaker 3: Adapted Screenplay. I don't know what will dude, Yeah, it.
- 47:26Speaker 6: Better it really they stuff? Yeah, the effect that's hard.
- 47:36Speaker 6: Sometimes they can fly unto the radar, like when when
- 47:39Speaker 6: big things are released later on, you know, like but
- 47:42Speaker 6: yeah it is my turn, yes, yeah, same, same, so
- 47:48Speaker 6: much like it was impressive in the book how Ryland
- 47:53Speaker 6: is always able to kind of keep his emotions in check,
- 47:55Speaker 6: like he actively is like I can't get sad about this,
- 47:57Speaker 6: I can't be emotional about out yao, and like I
- 48:02Speaker 6: don't know, I know these people, but I don't know how.
- 48:05Speaker 6: And but he feels the emotions. But we get to
- 48:07Speaker 6: like like Gosling, let that or the screen, you know,
- 48:10Speaker 6: the directing, the screament as a unit, they all decided
- 48:12Speaker 6: Grace is going to show more emotion, and I think
- 48:16Speaker 6: that let us connect. We have so much time to
- 48:18Speaker 6: connect with them in the book because it's you know,
- 48:21Speaker 6: massive book you've listened to, it's like fourteen hours long.
- 48:24Speaker 6: In the movie, it's more limited. So like, give us
- 48:26Speaker 6: the hot emotions that are on the surface and we
- 48:28Speaker 6: will connect with it more. I cried six times in
- 48:33Speaker 6: this movie, like like I literally, I only I've cried
- 48:37Speaker 6: that much in a theater at a movie since like Coco,
- 48:40Speaker 6: way back when I was like a hot mess sobbing.
- 48:44Speaker 3: We've talked about it.
- 48:45Speaker 6: Yes, and I'll often get like I'll get like one
- 48:48Speaker 6: of those moments in a movie, but this was four
- 48:51Speaker 6: or five six times I lost track and it was
- 48:54Speaker 6: usually Grace and or Grace and Rocky like some sort
- 48:57Speaker 6: of emotional moment between them or or him, because he
- 49:00Speaker 6: he just killed it. Like and then the humor and
- 49:03Speaker 6: the dorkiness. I mean, he was just they I feel
- 49:06Speaker 6: like they made him again until we could relate to
- 49:08Speaker 6: him more like a little bit doo fear and goofyer
- 49:12Speaker 6: than book Rylan. He's still really he's still super sharp
- 49:16Speaker 6: and intelligent and obviously has the trust of everybody involved,
- 49:20Speaker 6: so you trust him too. But he's got this goofy silliness,
- 49:23Speaker 6: like a lightness and a humor, and I.
- 49:25Speaker 5: Feel like that fits in so well with him being
- 49:29Speaker 5: a teacher.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Yes, I love school teacher too.
- 49:34Speaker 5: I love that he's a teacher. Yeah, I just I
- 49:36Speaker 5: think that really adds to his character as well.
- 49:39Speaker 6: Yeah, because he he he sold that every aspect of
- 49:43Speaker 6: Grace's arc, which is an incredible arc throughout the movie
- 49:47Speaker 6: and book. But like the movie captures it perfectly. Uh
- 49:51Speaker 6: from goofy middle school teacher all the way back to
- 49:56Speaker 6: goofy middle school teacher again at the end, you know
- 49:58Speaker 6: what I mean, Like it come it is a full
- 50:01Speaker 6: circle and it's it's beautiful and yeah, he just crushed it.
- 50:05Speaker 6: That is not I don't know what I mean, Like
- 50:08Speaker 6: I want to watch it over and over again so
- 50:09Speaker 6: I can really take in all those things, because again
- 50:12Speaker 6: the book comparisons were looming, and I was trying to
- 50:14Speaker 6: just like shed that. I was like dizzy when I
- 50:17Speaker 6: left the movie. I told Kends, I was like dizzy
- 50:19Speaker 6: because my brain was on like overdrive digesting it and
- 50:23Speaker 6: then sort of like remembering what the book was like.
- 50:26Speaker 6: He there couldn't have been a better person, and it
- 50:28Speaker 6: was really cool having knowing that it was him and
- 50:31Speaker 6: having seen just like a bit of a trailer to
- 50:33Speaker 6: have that in my mind helped my brain characterize him visually.
- 50:38Speaker 6: And he yeah, it was perfect.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny because when I read the book, I
- 50:44Speaker 1: was kind of picturing mad demon because you know, that
- 50:48Speaker 1: was pretty much where I had my head. Yeah, I
- 50:51Speaker 1: don't have a ton to add. He was so good
- 50:54Speaker 1: in this the funny, the sad. I mean, he's got
- 50:58Speaker 1: some parts in this thing. It break your heart when
- 51:03Speaker 1: he is doing the funeral for the two folks that
- 51:06Speaker 1: he doesn't even really remember, but he still is breaking down.
- 51:09Speaker 1: It's probably more that he's just like wishes he had
- 51:12Speaker 1: some other people to talk to.
- 51:13Speaker 6: Probably you can feel it inside, right, it's something there's
- 51:16Speaker 6: something he recognizes, but he can't put his finger on it,
- 51:18Speaker 6: which is like probably men, I.
- 51:19Speaker 5: Have a feeling it's like the first time he's directly
- 51:22Speaker 5: been with a dead.
- 51:24Speaker 7: Body, you know what I mean.
- 51:24Speaker 6: Like's not and you don't know where you're.
- 51:27Speaker 7: In normal expeditions.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a lot, but you really felt that from him.
- 51:32Speaker 1: And when he is being confronted with you know whether
- 51:39Speaker 1: or not he wants to go and be involved, and
- 51:41Speaker 1: he's like, I'm not that guy, but when not your hero,
- 51:47Speaker 1: but then he is forced to and just like the
- 51:50Speaker 1: fear and but it's also kind of funny, but it's
- 51:52Speaker 1: also heartbreaking. Just like he he can do it all.
- 51:56Speaker 8: Up on the Shelby Spider Man's way across the and.
- 52:03Speaker 6: The guys are like come on, like they're not trying
- 52:05Speaker 6: to like and then he's just because a little escape
- 52:08Speaker 6: moment and then the Carl betrayal was like the sad
- 52:12Speaker 6: cherry on top of it all.
- 52:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's interesting. I actually don't think it's a betrayal,
- 52:16Speaker 3: but I get you.
- 52:17Speaker 6: It's it's not really right, like it's what has to
- 52:20Speaker 6: happen and that's why it's like Strat and everybody there.
- 52:23Speaker 6: It's like they're doing what they have to keep humanity alive,
- 52:27Speaker 6: and it's you.
- 52:27Speaker 3: Know, one thing I did kind of miss was the
- 52:30Speaker 3: like gene, the you can go into the coma gene.
- 52:34Speaker 3: They never talk about that, and then the book it's
- 52:36Speaker 3: a whole thing. And that's one of the reasons. Because
- 52:39Speaker 3: he's one of like a out of a million people
- 52:42Speaker 3: on Earth's population, he's one of the few that has.
- 52:44Speaker 6: Very short list. Yeah, which makes it like you have
- 52:47Speaker 6: to be the guy. Is like, this was like, we
- 52:49Speaker 6: don't have the time to get anybody else and it
- 52:51Speaker 6: has to be you.
- 52:52Speaker 3: This was a little bit more merit based, So that's good.
- 52:55Speaker 3: I guess maybe in some ways, but yeah, I hear you.
- 52:58Speaker 1: But yeah, just the fact that he was able to
- 53:02Speaker 1: make us fall in love with this this faceless creature
- 53:05Speaker 1: and they had this incredible friendship and it's just him
- 53:08Speaker 1: acting alongside this thing. It's wonderful and I mean, that's
- 53:12Speaker 1: so impressive.
- 53:14Speaker 3: Yeah, he did such a good job. I thought about
- 53:16Speaker 3: picking Rocky for this award, but I right, it's a
- 53:20Speaker 3: clean sweep. I just want to say real quick that
- 53:23Speaker 3: one of the things I loved about his characterization that
- 53:26Speaker 3: I didn't get from the book, probably just because you
- 53:29Speaker 3: don't see the interactions as much.
- 53:31Speaker 4: He is not a.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Person, so they make it very clear, right like he
- 53:35Speaker 3: doesn't have a family, he doesn't have like a you know,
- 53:39Speaker 3: a partner, all these things. But also everywhere he goes,
- 53:43Speaker 3: people fall in love with this guy, and I think
- 53:45Speaker 3: that's so fun to see in this, Like Carl is
- 53:49Speaker 3: on board, they're eating the you know, the sour skittles
- 53:52Speaker 3: right away, the other two people that are there, you know,
- 53:54Speaker 3: doing security, like all the folks at the party are
- 53:58Speaker 3: you know, like him least well enough and all that
- 54:01Speaker 3: stuff like, and he's happy at the end because he
- 54:04Speaker 3: can find community kind of where he goes. And I
- 54:06Speaker 3: thought that was really well portrayed.
- 54:08Speaker 6: He's like a really really really smart golden retriever, you know.
- 54:11Speaker 3: Kind of kind of and just like just as a
- 54:14Speaker 3: zest for life or something.
- 54:15Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 54:16Speaker 5: I've seen some hot takes online about that, and some
- 54:21Speaker 5: people are thinking this doesn't make sense that he would
- 54:25Speaker 5: be like a loner type person, and I'm like, I
- 54:28Speaker 5: don't think you've met a lot of introvert type people
- 54:32Speaker 5: that when they're forced to be out. They're super fun
- 54:36Speaker 5: and really charismatic or even infectious, but on their own
- 54:43Speaker 5: they would choose to just be at home, maybe, you know,
- 54:46Speaker 5: being a nerd, like who knows what he's doing, Like,
- 54:49Speaker 5: and especially with him being a teacher, I feel like
- 54:53Speaker 5: you're very peopled out by the end of the day.
- 54:56Speaker 5: And yeah, a lot of time to kind of recover
- 55:02Speaker 5: from that. And if he's just kind of content, and
- 55:05Speaker 5: then he makes that comment about you know, his ex
- 55:08Speaker 5: saying his head's his head was in the clouds or something,
- 55:11Speaker 5: you know, Like I could see him being a more
- 55:14Speaker 5: detached person until he's forced to be with other people.
- 55:18Speaker 7: So I think he's realistic.
- 55:19Speaker 6: Well, he makes we do get some very funny, awkward
- 55:23Speaker 6: dialogue from he makes a little awkward comments Stratt isn't
- 55:26Speaker 6: playing along with his humor and he kind of bumps
- 55:28Speaker 6: his head against the like thing, like we get a
- 55:30Speaker 6: lot of those even even when he's with Rocky, So
- 55:33Speaker 6: like he's got that little bit of social awkwardness. But
- 55:39Speaker 6: then just like such a big heart and and yeah,
- 55:45Speaker 6: I agree that, Like I agree that they I don't
- 55:47Speaker 6: know have softened is the right word, but they like
- 55:49Speaker 6: they made him so lovable for the movie, which is necessary. Again,
- 55:53Speaker 6: in a shorter run time than it takes to read
- 55:56Speaker 6: the book or listen to the book, you want to
- 55:58Speaker 6: fall in love with him immediately.
- 56:01Speaker 3: Totally clean sweep, he's the dude. Let's talk about some
- 56:05Speaker 3: of these other folks show we named the Tucciucci. Not
- 56:11Speaker 3: like a ton to choose from here, but ken's what'd
- 56:13Speaker 3: you have for the teacher?
- 56:14Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I have a feeling.
- 56:16Speaker 7: We have a we had a funny thing.
- 56:18Speaker 5: We normally try to not talk about things love it
- 56:21Speaker 5: a podcast because we're like, yeah, we're I'm sure you
- 56:26Speaker 5: guys have a similar thing a movie together.
- 56:29Speaker 3: Almost every almost every week we say I'm sorry, we
- 56:31Speaker 3: can't talk about that. We can't be friends right now.
- 56:34Speaker 7: We have to say that that's so marital, you know.
- 56:37Speaker 5: That sounds like such a marriage like thing where you're like,
- 56:40Speaker 5: we can't do this in front of the kids.
- 56:42Speaker 7: Let's later for you guys. It's like, we have to
- 56:47Speaker 7: do this in front of the kids. So I was,
- 56:54Speaker 7: but I did.
- 56:54Speaker 5: Say to Riley, I was like, it's so funny because
- 56:56Speaker 5: I was trying to think about who, you know, the
- 56:58Speaker 5: Tucci would because I was being I haven't on one
- 57:00Speaker 5: of these and so long I had to be reminded, like,
- 57:02Speaker 5: what what do we talk about?
- 57:03Speaker 7: So he's like the dude, the two you know the things.
- 57:07Speaker 5: And when he said that, for a while, I didn't
- 57:11Speaker 5: even think of Rocky because he's not a person, which
- 57:14Speaker 5: is so rude. So I was like, oh, you know,
- 57:19Speaker 5: I love strat like so much even though she's mean,
- 57:23Speaker 5: and I don't know, I just like, really her character
- 57:26Speaker 5: is so complex and anyway, but I mean obviously Rocky
- 57:30Speaker 5: because he almost got the dude for me because he's
- 57:33Speaker 5: just so lovable and he was played by like a
- 57:38Speaker 5: puppeteer and.
- 57:40Speaker 7: Who was also the voice and I think.
- 57:42Speaker 6: That was he on set doing dialogue.
- 57:48Speaker 3: And the amazing there's only a handful of scenes where
- 57:55Speaker 3: Rocky is all cgi. Most of the time he's the
- 57:59Speaker 3: physical puppet and they cut the stuff out.
- 58:02Speaker 5: Yeah, and to me, that makes him as a character
- 58:07Speaker 5: more believable, more real, and it added so much so.
- 58:12Speaker 6: Well, no ship, Like their chemistry is so good, it's amazing,
- 58:16Speaker 6: Like and Maryan Cossing is a good enough actor to
- 58:18Speaker 6: act to just a blue screen and nail it. But
- 58:21Speaker 6: that makes so much sense. That's so cool.
- 58:25Speaker 7: Yeah, so I will.
- 58:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll let other.
- 58:27Speaker 7: People say their feelings.
- 58:33Speaker 5: I didn't find that out just earlier today because I
- 58:36Speaker 5: was looking stuff up.
- 58:37Speaker 7: So no, not at all.
- 58:41Speaker 6: Well, how freaking cool. Yeah, the smaller supporting cast back
- 58:46Speaker 6: on Earth. Really everyone was great. There was again there's
- 58:50Speaker 6: book characters that I wish we would have seen more of.
- 58:53Speaker 6: There's the is it the French guy that has to
- 58:55Speaker 6: be part of blowing up Antarctica? You know, like, there's
- 58:58Speaker 6: the dude that has to breed the astrophase asian the
- 59:00Speaker 6: Sahara Desert. I really missed the Russian, the lead Russian dude.
- 59:05Speaker 6: He was hilarious. They kind of like did like an
- 59:09Speaker 6: amalgamation person like that. I didn't catch his name, but
- 59:12Speaker 6: there was that guy who's got kind of the beard
- 59:15Speaker 6: and he was sort of I feel like, the placeholder
- 59:17Speaker 6: for that. But Dmitri was awesome, and I really am
- 59:19Speaker 6: bummed that we didn't just get even a short scene
- 59:23Speaker 6: of a Russian dude that was Dmitri, you know, because
- 59:25Speaker 6: he was so funny, but everybody and as amazing as
- 59:30Speaker 6: Stratt was, as as she did portraying Stratt, which we
- 59:34Speaker 6: can talk about too, because she was so close to
- 59:37Speaker 6: being there, but obviously Rocky and the voice actor and
- 59:41Speaker 6: the puppeting and all of this. I mean, I was
- 59:44Speaker 6: just going with, Wow, they freaking crushed the like the
- 59:49Speaker 6: it's not easy to like animate something to the degree
- 59:52Speaker 6: that they did. Thinking that's what they which I'm sure
- 59:54Speaker 6: they did some a little bit of CGI enhancement here
- 59:56Speaker 6: and there, but like the tangibility of what they accomplished
- 59:59Speaker 6: that makes sense that they had.
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: Yeah, because it's not just Rocky, but it's Rocky inside
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: of a special you know, hamster.
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: It's so complex.
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: He was just amazing, Like I kept saying, he's like
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: the smartest toddler slash dog that you've ever met in
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: your life. Like so fun and like they captured and
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: again maybe a little bit more than the book did
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: a whimsy Ken's loves the word whimsy and feeling a
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: whimsy to Rocky and humor that the book maybe did
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: eventually deliver when you look at it as a whole,
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: but again takes more time. So this is a more
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: concentrated shot of that in in as movie Rocky. You know,
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: their humor back and forth obviously and and seeing Rocky
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: like discover all of Ryland's technology. I mean, it was
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: just it was crazy how well they captured it, and
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: like the voice was a voice, because if you don't,
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: if you don't listen to the audiobook, I'd be fascinated
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: if if one of you Fellas read it without listening first,
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: or if you I've seen the pages. But I mean
- 1:01:17Speaker 6: how people internalized that when they read it, you know, like,
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: how did you guys read his voice when reading it
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: not listening? You know what I mean? Because question I
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: only had the listening of the audiobook, and it was perfect.
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: How they layered the speaking voice underneath the musical sort
- 1:01:33Speaker 6: of notes and pitched vibrations and stuff was really really
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: cool and they I love how they accomplished that. You know,
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: he kind of toting his little translator around throughout throughout
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: stuff so that we can hear it about subtitles, which
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: is just genius and amazing. That was maybe that's a
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: candidate for scene. For me was just the general language
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: dissection and like and like learning each other's languages was
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: so amazing. But yeah, there is hard for us to
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: find a better alien in any film or TV show
- 1:02:03Speaker 6: or anything. Ever. I cried so many times with regard
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: to Rocky and their relationship. It was just how how
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: could you have even done it better?
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Absolutely love it. Yeah, one hundred percent agree, And I
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: think that's your hottest take. And I'm with you. He's
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: the best alien ever. I'm with you in all of film.
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: There's a lot of good aliens out there, but he
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: he just skyrocketed to the top.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Of the list. Yeah, I'm with you, so yeah, I
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: would definitely give it to him as well. And we
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: talked a little bit about Sander Huler is Eva Stratt.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: She's wonderful. I guess this is her first American film,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: which is pretty cool, very cool. I loved that she
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: was funny in this, but it was really the only
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: reason she was funny was just because she would just
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: shoot down.
- 1:02:58Speaker 7: She wasn't trying to be funny about it was funny.
- 1:03:00Speaker 6: It was fun she was giving she was giving dracks
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: from Guardians of the Galaxy a little bit.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I love that your.
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: Humor isn't welcome here. I don't either get it or
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: care enough to respond to it, because I got I
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: got bigger fish to fry here.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Right, But she almost seemed like she didn't really have
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: much of a personality except that she just needed to
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: get this done. But then they really humanized her and
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: they gave her this like karaoke song, which she sounded beautiful.
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: So smart, yep, so smart to give her that that
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: bit of depth to her just a little bit and
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: she's like, Okay, I'm done singing and right now I'm done.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, And she crushed it. And that song was
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: just so perfect for this movie too.
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: I love it in the trailer. Using that song in
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: the trailer, dramatizing it and like, uh cinema like adding
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: that's the like like movie score sort of vibe to
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: it in the trailer was just so I love when
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: the right song is chosen for a trailer. It's not
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: always the case, but when the song is chosen and
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: they like amplify it with the sort of trailer cut
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: sounds and stuff, always so good.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I love that.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: All the people you guys said for sure. Lionel Boyce
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: is carl from as well as I thought he was awesome,
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: really gave him the buddy to like kind of play
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: off for that first part that first act really a little.
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: Bit like what you get with him and Rocky later,
- 1:04:28Speaker 6: but you had like a little a little taste of
- 1:04:30Speaker 6: what a friendship for him totally.
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: Yes, really I liked him a lot and.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: Then just like not a lot of other people had
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: a lot of stuff to do, honestly, Like, it was
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: fun to see Milana is it Vane Trube? I don't
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: know how you say your last name, but the Van
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: trub what is what is her advertisement?
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: A T and t at and T.
- 1:04:55Speaker 6: I told kens, I was like, it's like I got like,
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: uh matrix ripped out of the immersion for like ten
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: seconds when I clocked her. I was like, that's the
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: that's the cut and girl.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I didn't know she was like the progressive.
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: She was the backup to.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: Yeah, missus a very much like a you guys problem
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: because when you don't recognize people remember faces, names, everybody knew.
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I thought it was watching.
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: It wasn't totally miss that Ryan Fellow.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: But yeah, I thought she was great.
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: But she didn't get to do a lot.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: I assume there was a lot of cutting room floor
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: stuff for her, because that character is kind of funny
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: in the book. They don't do a ton more in
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: the book, but she's well.
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: Also, it was a shame that we didn't get any
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: Dubois because what a what a goofy like uh, you
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: know horn Dog in the book, and like the obvious
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: answer is they wanted it to be Pg. Thirteen, and
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: so they just they showed a little smoochie smooth, a
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: little a little love connection that then leads to the
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: you know, both of the both of them getting freaking neutralized.
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: But it's a shame because he was a great little
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: a great character in the book. I liked him a lot. Yeah,
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: I loved to Ken Lung Leon.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, from way I loved.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: Him from Lost Man, like way recognize that freaking dude.
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: There was like one more that I really was like
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: that person I recognize and I can't remember if it was.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: Who was it?
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: I don't even have anyone else?
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Yeah, there was those are the only usual was the
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: State farm guy in there.
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: Right, Jeremy the State Farm or whatever.
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: One shout out to the Queen herself Meryl Streep doing.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Which was awesome. I love that she can do anything.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: I'll step on the trivia or later. That was an
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: ad lipped line by Ryan Gosling, and they just made
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: it work.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: They amazing.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: One of the people had worked with her on the post.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: I think, uh a Steven Spielberg movie. And uh, after
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: he had said that line and it was so funny,
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: they were like, well, actually put in her voice, you know.
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: When they're going through the voice. Cool, it's actually her voice.
- 1:07:27Speaker 7: Okay, sorry, I've already forgot.
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: That was one of my favorite scenes and they forgot that.
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: I saw it two weeks ago. That's a long time.
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: For weeks ago.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: I love it.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: Nice.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: Well, let's let's start talking some scenes. Let's go and
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: pick our favorite. It's time to pick the Dingus.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Dingus is quite simple, really, Dingus Dingus.
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: I can talk about my dingas all night long.
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: The Dingleberry, the Dingleberry. I'll go first this time.
- 1:08:01Speaker 7: Perfect.
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: I have to remember she's got to remember what the again.
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: I struggled because I was like, I'm gonna be on
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: the podcast tomorrow, so I'm thinking, like, remember things, Riley,
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: don't let it go in one eyeball and out the other,
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: and also don't over compare the book to the movie.
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: And I was it was like like I was like
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: in the was it Clockwork Orange where their eyes are
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: held open, and I'm like, ah, like, try to take
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: in every single bit that I can and remember these things.
- 1:08:32Speaker 6: And I, in true me fashion, was like gone, So
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: I had to like refresh on the interwebs and like
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: it's so hard because it was just all it all
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: flowed so well. So I was like having a hard
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: time distinguishing, like where does this scene end? You know,
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: Like where would I define this ending or beginning. I
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: think karaoke scene's a big contender because of the like
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: the humanity it brings to this crew and all these
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: people that are like a couple of which are gonna
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: die for sure, you know, and then a bunch of
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: which will probably also die because the planet's gonna get cold,
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: and YadA YadA. So that was a really amazing emotional scene. Again,
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: the song was incredible. I'm having a hard time. I
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: have like three that are like really hard for me
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: to choose between because I love language. I love language
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: and fiction, and like when languages are created for for
- 1:09:30Speaker 6: books and movies, whether that's like Tolkien and all of
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: his incredible like dense love for language in the Middle
- 1:09:36Speaker 6: Earth world and in that in the Lord of the
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: Rings franchise and everything, or Avatar, or you know, just
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: so much. I love language and movies and this was
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: such a freaking cool, freaking language because it's like music
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: and that's like our thing, and so for it to
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: be this like musical sort of like pitch and tone
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: based thing. The and in the book, they did such
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: a good job adapting that part of it for the movie,
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: showing him going through and attributing words to tones and
- 1:10:08Speaker 6: then creating a whole library, whole dictionary, and then he's
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: getting this amazing real time translation, which for us as
- 1:10:16Speaker 6: the viewers was amazing because then you avoid subtitles and
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: you get to hear Rocky and you get to hear
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: the personalized nature of his actual voice and the performance
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: of that, and like his range of emotions and stuff too,
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: So that whole that's hard looks it's like an extended
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: scene develops over the whole course of their their time.
- 1:10:35Speaker 6: They're adding words. So but that initial portion of realizing
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: his language like in a tangible form was amazing. The
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: like emotion of when Rocky offers his fuel, that whole
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: like him trying to be stoic. He's trying to be
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: stoic and be like, it's good, I've made peace and
- 1:10:54Speaker 6: then it's like, I don't. That didn't mean any of that,
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: it's just the thing you say it. That was one
- 1:11:01Speaker 6: of those raw moments. He turns around the tears and
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: I was like, son of a bit and I'm just like,
- 1:11:07Speaker 6: like in the theater shot.
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: To come out of the shadow and you see just
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: the one eye with the tears first, like.
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: Oh, and I forgot to say the hot take. The cinematography,
- 1:11:16Speaker 6: I think maybe we generally touched on it. The cinematography
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: was breathtaking.
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: The person whoever the cinematographer was, loves what they do,
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: you know what I mean, it comes through they love
- 1:11:26Speaker 6: what they do. And the shots like that were incredible
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: usage of how you just present a visual to people
- 1:11:34Speaker 6: to enhance the moment. Rocky in that scene was just
- 1:11:38Speaker 6: the the liver, the line delivery. It was just incredible.
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: But I honestly think and it's the scene that was
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: so gripping in the book as well, was the Adrian
- 1:11:47Speaker 6: the fishing that tell me what they eventually find to
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: be to tell me but from the surface, and the
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: extended accident and Rocky's rescue of Riley, Like I'm like,
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: I just finished this audiobook like two weeks ago, and
- 1:12:01Speaker 6: I know what happens and I am absolutely on the
- 1:12:04Speaker 6: edge of my seat, like nail biting knock that tracking stress.
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: They did such a good job again adapting the like
- 1:12:12Speaker 6: stress and anxiety that that and the stakes of that
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: and him like out jumping for the freaking capsule on
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: the outside and getting it and comes back in and
- 1:12:23Speaker 6: I almost for a second thought, are they gonna like
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: not have the like fuel tank rupture because there was
- 1:12:27Speaker 6: that moment of like quiet for a second where like, oh, okay,
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: I guess that's all right, and then all hell breaks
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: loose and Rocky's a hero and you know, like that
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: to me had such a range of stress and action
- 1:12:41Speaker 6: and science and emotion that that sort of like encapsulates
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: for me the whole like vibe of this movie of
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: you know, so it's a hard it's hard because there's
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: like emotional acting and then there's like act. It's it's
- 1:12:54Speaker 6: hard to pin it down, but that for me, I think,
- 1:12:56Speaker 6: does it And I'll stop talking there.
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: I feel like that scene alone was like I don't know,
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: probably half the.
- 1:13:05Speaker 7: Budget, you know what I mean, like so much. I'm
- 1:13:08Speaker 7: sure that they.
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: Wanted much much.
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: If the movie makers were listening, they'd like, please say
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: the scene that.
- 1:13:16Speaker 7: We really tried to. We gave it everything, and.
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: What's funny is I just was so stressed during that
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: that I was like, I'm not going.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: To pick that.
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: Good emotions for Era well, and I love you know,
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: I can watch and enjoy many genres of film, but
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: I do a little bit when there's like a lot
- 1:13:43Speaker 5: of action and I don't know, not as much dialogue happening,
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: and it's just stressful. I feel like I a little
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: bit tune out, which is like the opposite of Riley.
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: The fight scenes in any given Marvel movie are not
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: fatigue can we which is why movies like she loves
- 1:14:04Speaker 6: the doing movies, and it's because it's not all fast cuts.
- 1:14:07Speaker 6: They let you sit wider, longer moments of action.
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: Yeah, incredible and these movie certainly, I feel like it
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: that's the only like really action packed part which it's
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: done beautifully and stuff. But I I get confused about
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: when this happened because there's a lot in my brain
- 1:14:28Speaker 5: all the time. Like I said, two weeks ago is
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: a long time for me, and you know, time dilation
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: and all that.
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: Relativity.
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: Maybe and I feel like this either happens, I know
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: what happens after that, there's they have to go back, right,
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: they go back?
- 1:14:50Speaker 6: And is that goes Grace sends the probes, and Grace
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: goes back because he realizes that they tell Meva will
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: have inevitab leading.
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: I mean is time, Yeah, you know what is there
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: the first time and has like the crazy red where
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: they see the patroval line scene and then they do
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: go back to go fishing later. So there is and that's.
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: Why I was like, aren't there the Petrova line is
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: when they're just collecting the astrophage. Yeah, from they see
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: a little So.
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: Is it the second time that Rocky has to bust out?
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: And so mine's kind of like an extension of yours,
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: but very specifically that like thy five seconds.
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: Rocky rescuing, Rocky rescuing coming up, and just because.
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: It's just so emotional, there's no dialogue.
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: But talk about cinematography, the use of the lighting and
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: the flickering and the progress being made and the smoke
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: coming out of Rocky's body. You hear about that in
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: the book, like the biology Rocky explains that, but you
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: don't need to You just need to see this. Also,
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: guy is suffering to try and save his friend.
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: You also don't get obviously that visual in the book
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: because Ryland is unconscious so to see it.
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: And like screaming.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Doesn't.
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: I actually like that adaptation for this because in the movie,
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: Rocky goes himself to the spot, right, but in Yeah,
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: and he actually brings Ryland to the you know, to
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: Armando Armando arm He brings him there to help him
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: get healed. In the book, Rocky just does the thing.
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: Ryland wakes up and Rocky's there and he has to
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: he has to bring carries. Now, like Rocky gets a
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: more like dedicated I'm a hero.
- 1:16:53Speaker 6: Moment, heroic moment, which I like, I think you just
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: said is so strong, so strong, because Ryland gets to
- 1:16:58Speaker 6: be a hero multiple time. Moment was killer ye.
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think that it really shows, you know,
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: we don't hear, we get to know Rocky super well
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: and we find out, you know, like what he's made
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: of and how long their life spans are and interesting
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: things like that.
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: But but like.
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: And then little things like they watch each other's sleep.
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: But I think that that scene just shows how altruistic
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: those creatures Iridians are, and I think that they're even more, yeah,
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: more so than humans, from just Rocky's actions and what
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: they do for Ryland in the end, I just think
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: that they are extremely like they're about the survival of
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: the group.
- 1:17:47Speaker 7: Above all, you know.
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: And in that moment when he risks like losing his
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: life to save Ryland. Just yeah, and then like you said, this,
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: this sounds because he is saying stuff but we don't know.
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: And it's yeah, like raw Iridian emotion coming from him,
- 1:18:07Speaker 6: and you get the little glimpse of like the burn
- 1:18:09Speaker 6: on Ryland's arm in the shape of his hand, you know.
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: So like because again they kind of blitz past the
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: biology of Rocky. They don't really talk about the pressure
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: that the Iridians are under, but he does go you
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: run hot in there or whatever. So like you get
- 1:18:21Speaker 6: in the sense that this is excruciating for Rocky and
- 1:18:24Speaker 6: also leaves Ryland damaged to an extent too, And then
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: the long healing process was so stressful. Yeah, yeah for
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: Rocky man.
- 1:18:37Speaker 7: And I'm done.
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: I like narrowing that down.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: I love that too well. And I would even just
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: say the fishing scene into the saving scene and then
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: he can just make it all of that because it's incredible.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: If I had to do a runner up, I love it.
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: When Rocky moves into h Ryland's ship was so funny,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: just like a bowl of a china shop. It's so funny,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: so cute, and Ryland Grace gets so annoyed so quickly
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: having a roommate and those little like video journals or whatever,
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: And that is the funniest part in the movie for me.
- 1:19:21Speaker 6: It's giving like I have to deal with one of
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: my middle schoolers. Like I thought I would be prepared
- 1:19:27Speaker 6: for this, and yet yeah, I'm not. And you can
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: hear him from across the ship.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: I loved that so much.
- 1:19:33Speaker 7: What did you say?
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: Yeah, who are you talking to?
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: I can hear you.
- 1:19:40Speaker 6: Are you talking to a question?
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: I loved all of that so much.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: I definitely so. The thing I wrote in my notes
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: was space fishing. I mean, it's just the most gorgeous ever.
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: I guess that's gorgeous.
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: This is insane how beautiful it is. So I'm with
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: you guys on that. I love When Rocky comes in,
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: He's like, where's my bedroom? And then he's like bedroom.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: You know, all this stuff dirty dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty,
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: so so fun for garbage that It's just so great.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: I love it. The other one I want to call
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: out is what we did mention it earlier, sending his
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: shipmates out to rest when he's in space, like the
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: pictures and stuff, gorgeous, saying, I just thought that was
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: really wonderful how they did that beautiful even though we
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: don't know that we know as much as he does.
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: I guess about them at that point really, which is
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: not a lot. And then I'll just say that the
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: first contact with Blippe and all that, and like the
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: throwing of the thing, all the stuff.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: They think I'm dumb. Yeah, it's so much slower.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: Oh they think I'm dumb, you know, Like all that's
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: just so great.
- 1:20:52Speaker 6: I just love that's like the silence of space, the
- 1:20:55Speaker 6: little arm like yes and just but there's yeah, yes
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: and so great and it bounces off and nothing.
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: Is and he's like is it a bomb? Oh god,
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: is it a bomb? You know, like all that stuffs
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: so funny. But to call up the one you were
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: talking about earlier, Ken's the first time when he switches
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: into the petrova of you and it's that red. I
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: was like, Oh, what is happening? This is I was gorgeous.
- 1:21:23Speaker 6: I was waiting for it because they show you that
- 1:21:26Speaker 6: in the trailer they're trying to capture with you know,
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: moments of every visual so you get a little taste
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: of that, and I was like, what the freak is
- 1:21:32Speaker 6: this movie about?
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: Like whoa right?
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: And again I missed the rocky things. I was like,
- 1:21:35Speaker 6: cool is a space? And when you get that for
- 1:21:38Speaker 6: longer and again the sound design mixed with the sparkly,
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: beautyonderful little astrophage bursts and the pink oh my gosh.
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's incredible.
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: So I believe that that scene also has some cool
- 1:21:55Speaker 5: trivia like to it that a lot of it was
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: done practically.
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: Yeah, they didn't choose any green screens for the space apparently,
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: which was all done on black backgrounds and then c
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: g I was added, right, but they didn't They didn't
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: actually green screen, which is pretty wild.
- 1:22:12Speaker 7: Really amazing.
- 1:22:13Speaker 6: I mean it feels very real. Yeah, none of not
- 1:22:17Speaker 6: a lot of the shots. I mean you can fall
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: victim to like, you know, he's standing on a spaceship
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: in space and it looks composited and green screen and
- 1:22:23Speaker 6: it never felt like that.
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: He didn't feel goofy at all, which is great.
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: No, it felt tight and yeah, yeah, well.
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: I guess that the things is chosen sounds like space
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: fishing and saving.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: It also if.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: We go space fishing, I will need to be saved immediately.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: I'll be your Rocky. Well, let's talk about some of
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: these quotes, and let's show me the money.
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: Show me the money, show me.
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: I have so many.
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: Why don't you guys say a couple, go for it.
- 1:23:05Speaker 7: Okay, I didn't know we were allowed a couple.
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: I'm a stickler for the rules, guys.
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: I didn't know.
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: Okay, So I wrote down what's funny is when a
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: movie is this recent, You guys probably deal with this
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: all the time. You can't really look up quotes because
- 1:23:24Speaker 5: they don't exist yet, which I'm like, No, one's just
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: like written down all the quotes.
- 1:23:28Speaker 7: Yet, what's going on here?
- 1:23:29Speaker 6: Subscribe?
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: You would think, I don't know that it would be available,
- 1:23:34Speaker 5: like when you release a song and there's lyrics. So
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: but one of my favorite quotes, because I don't think
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: it's in the book, and it caught me off guard
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: and made me laugh out loud, was when Ryland meets
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: Rocky and he's just like kind of you know, observing
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: him and stuff, and he's like, no face, mysterious faces
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: are overrated.
- 1:23:54Speaker 7: Great love that so much and.
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: I love that, like freaking out on the inside there
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: and that's his like coping mechanism.
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: Human faces are, like you know, have been one of
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: the most studied, Like they're so important for humans and
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: just to be like faces are overrated, move.
- 1:24:17Speaker 6: Into being mimicked and he's like, how are you mimic?
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: How can you see me?
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: You've got no face?
- 1:24:20Speaker 6: Yeah, amazing.
- 1:24:22Speaker 5: So yeah, I have other ones, but I know that
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: they will be brought up a wordless quote this thumbs down,
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: thumbs up, and.
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: Jazz excited hand. Some of the non verbal communication was
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: maybe some of the best. I'm pretty sure I started
- 1:24:45Speaker 6: crying during that, crying at a guy and a fake
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: alien dancing at each other. It feels it feels so
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: lame to pick amazing is a mazed No, it's not
- 1:25:01Speaker 6: like maybe because they don't NASA is quoting that, yeah,
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: because they don't. Like Again, in the book, Ryland like realizes,
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: oh he you know, he triple emphasizes a word that
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: really means something, and the pitch goes up when it's
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: excited or down and sad, and they amazing, amazing mace
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: happened so many times in the book. It's almost like
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: not highlighted in the movies. So when you hear it,
- 1:25:25Speaker 6: you're like, it's like that Leo DiCaprio media Like you
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: see it, it's like, there's amazing, amazing mace. So I
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: love it so much. Encapsulates Rocky fully probably also fists
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: my bump.
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: I left so hard.
- 1:25:44Speaker 6: So hard in the book. And then and then he
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: he like tries again later in the book and it's
- 1:25:49Speaker 6: like still wrong and also still hilarious, and he's like,
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: you know.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: We'll get there.
- 1:25:54Speaker 6: Those are so good, I think, like something similar to
- 1:25:58Speaker 6: like it's all it's all the funny stuff, right, like
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: all these funny like lines of dialogue and like so
- 1:26:03Speaker 6: much Rocky like words of encouragement. You can't just say
- 1:26:09Speaker 6: words and encourage words of words of great encouragement.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: That so good.
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: The emphasis and like Rocky's understanding as he as it
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: goes on of human communication and stuff is so so great,
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: I think, And I'll say one more and then and
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: then we can always toss more on.
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: But okay, I'm I'm looking at his notes and I
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: also agree with this one, this.
- 1:26:35Speaker 6: One right here. Yeah, when they're talking about his mate,
- 1:26:39Speaker 6: which real fast. I loved that they made the hail
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: Mary more comfortable that it was so claustrophobic or whatever,
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: everything felt bigger and more more habitable, which was it's
- 1:26:55Speaker 6: still claustrophobic. And then it's almost like Lonelier that it's
- 1:26:57Speaker 6: bigger for Ryland until Rocky's there. But that like that
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: chill room with all the screens that you could have
- 1:27:03Speaker 6: where they had the conversation about his mate, so cool
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: the whole you know, like, how long you've been together?
- 1:27:08Speaker 6: In one hundred and eighty six years? Yes, Oh, it's
- 1:27:10Speaker 6: like the honeymoon phase. No, understand. He's like, it's a joke,
- 1:27:13Speaker 6: rock it's a long time. You've been together a long time.
- 1:27:15Speaker 6: And he says, is not enough. I was like, noble,
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: I'll give you this one for free.
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: Boo hoo, for sure.
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I think we've already highlighted like seven boo who
- 1:27:28Speaker 6: moments and we haven't not even to that segment yet,
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: So is not enough? I was like, that's it's never enough.
- 1:27:35Speaker 6: Nothing is that. It's never enough, you know, And that's
- 1:27:37Speaker 6: like even eight hundred year old, like they lived to
- 1:27:39Speaker 6: be however long they can be. You know, it's never enough.
- 1:27:42Speaker 6: So I'll let you, Fellows go, because I've got way
- 1:27:44Speaker 6: more written, but I don't want to apol the whole thing.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: Yeah, man, I had a lot of those. Rocky hate Mark,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: which is one of my favorite one. Rocky.
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: The immediacy of it too, just like a wing.
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: Immediate. I got your back.
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: Anyhow, Now she's with Mark, Rocky hate Mark.
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: He might not always understand like an insight like humor
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: or you know, like honeymoon phase, but he that human emotion.
- 1:28:17Speaker 7: He's like, Yep, I'm on board, burning with my rock hands.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: It's so good. And I love some of the stuff
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: with Ryland and uh and Strato and they're just silly.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: It's it's like it took like two hundred years to
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: figure out how bacteria works. So and she's like, please
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: do it faster, please, please do She just it's she's
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: so funny, and she's not trying to.
- 1:28:45Speaker 6: Be permission to come aboard. You're already a boy.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: Well the consensus here is that it would be preferable
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: if you did not die.
- 1:28:54Speaker 6: So when she looks back and they're all like kind
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: of nodding and talking, he's like, you have to talk.
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: I think, yeah, yeah, I love that. Or he she
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: picks up the the hacky sack. He's like that's love
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: and she's like, no, it's not, it's not. I loved
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: all those beds. I love that too, And just super
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: random when he just tells that kid to stop running
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: and he's like, I'm not, I'm not love.
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: I love so much so loud.
- 1:29:25Speaker 6: I was so caught off guard by that because it's
- 1:29:27Speaker 6: just like, I'm not, I'm walking.
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: I don't know what you want from me.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: I'm such a fan of that.
- 1:29:34Speaker 10: Yeah, kids, you can say some bigs boy so many
- 1:29:41Speaker 10: So when he's talking to his kids, like he tries
- 1:29:43Speaker 10: not to talk about the dots, but they just keep
- 1:29:46Speaker 10: bringing up and he's.
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: Like so so relatable, like the temperature is gonna go
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: down blah blah blah and they're like, oh so, no
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: big whoop and he's like, it's a small whoop. It's
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: a small the medium whoop. That was so funny, just
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: like Okay. Also when he first wakes up in the
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: ship and he's like, why is there a positron magnetic microscope?
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: Why do I know that?
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: And I'm smart?
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: Am I smart? I love that?
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: Love that line so much.
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: That was really great.
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: A fun Carl one was Carl are you sitting down?
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: He's like, no, I'm standing up like a grown man.
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: Stand up like.
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: A grown man.
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: We cannot forget to say, Carl, we made a baby,
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: just in case that.
- 1:30:34Speaker 7: Wasn't not anyone.
- 1:30:36Speaker 6: And then once again he's talking to Carl and I
- 1:30:38Speaker 6: made a baby, says it to her, What are you
- 1:30:41Speaker 6: talking about? What do you mean?
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: So so good? Grumpy? Angry? Stupid? How long since last sleep? Question?
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: And then yes, And then he's.
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: Asking Armando that Rocky is he just Grace just goes,
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: don't talk to Armando's so funny. That cracked me up.
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: Lastly question when he's complaining about Rocky and he's like,
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: he tells me what to do, he tells me when
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: to do it, he tells me why to do it,
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: he tells me how to do it. And then when
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: I do it, he's like, what are you doing? So
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: so funny? One switch they did so in the book
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: Rocky eating like Iridians are like eating his gross, It's
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: embarrassing for them. They flipped that here and they had
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: discussed when eat, well, how do you look when you eat?
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: And I'd love the way Rocky.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Just went, I look beautiful, beautiful.
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: Like a Hesseyeah.
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: And then he starts eating and gossling just goes, oh
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: my god, oh my, like he's trying to aggressive and.
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that's like the chest burster vibes. That's the
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: only time from Rocky feels threatening a little bit in
- 1:31:57Speaker 6: his chest.
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: Butt but yeah, and then butt mouth face. I loved
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: when Rocky gives him the astrophage to go home and
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: he's like, I need a hug, and then he like
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: hugs and he's like, okay, how Rocky goes, how do
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: you know when the hug is done? And he's like,
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: you just feel it?
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: Are you feeling it now?
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: No?
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: Okay, good good, good good good. He's just like, I
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: don't know, that's a good so good And it made
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: me think that's probably what Abe thinks every time I
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: hug him as well. Is it?
- 1:32:31Speaker 6: Are you feeling the end of it?
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: Yet? I have plenty more? But please go ahead and
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: say something.
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: I just wanted to say, the one the joke that
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: Rocky makes you are very brave. I don't know about that.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: You are bravest human I have ever met. It's like, hey,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: is joke. I only meet one human and it's you.
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: He's like, I get it.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: I can't get it a joke.
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: Good it is a good joke.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Good joke. Yeah, I loved that.
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: That too.
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: We nail. I think we nailed all the ones that
- 1:33:08Speaker 6: I had written down. I mean, anytime they're talking to each.
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: Other my little piece of trivia for years that I'm
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: not you know, fact check me, Listening of the.
- 1:33:18Speaker 7: World or you guys.
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: But that uh.
- 1:33:24Speaker 7: Brosky Gossling.
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: He Brosky improvised using the name Mark because his friend
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: Mark was on set. So I just think that's so
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: funny that I hate Marcus.
- 1:33:40Speaker 6: You know, he mortalized, his friend is immortalized in this movie.
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: Rocky hates him.
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: And it doesn't mean it's true. But it also was
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: in the trivia where I looked and his friend was
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: like really like tickled by that apparently, which I think
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: is I.
- 1:33:54Speaker 6: Mean, how could you not lose I'd lose my ever
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: loving mind if got Brian Gosling threw my name in
- 1:33:59Speaker 6: as a fun little aside.
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: Yeah, it's great.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: The other one I really liked was when he's explaining
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: sleep and he's like, sleep, just lay like this, and
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: then Rocky goes die, die die, and he's like, no, die,
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: just lay like that For twenty nine seconds that's all.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah he really pulled that up.
- 1:34:23Speaker 6: Yeah, a bunch of very mental math. Yeah, dude, seriously,
- 1:34:27Speaker 6: Oh my.
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: Gosh, but yeah, we can stop there.
- 1:34:31Speaker 6: Every line in it highly quotable, everything Rocky said.
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: That's why I need the whole transcript. I was going
- 1:34:37Speaker 5: to just recite the film for you guys pretty close.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: So yeah, well let's move on. Let's go to bugs
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: Boohoo moments where the crying game. So yeah, I feel
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: like I'm gonna need your help. Riley. It sounded like
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: you were pretty in touch.
- 1:34:55Speaker 7: With your this ris.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: I like it. I picked seven, so yeah, so I'll
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: throw mine out there. You let me know if I
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: missed any. When Grace has the funeral for the two
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: crewmates that died, When Rocky offers his astrophage to get
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: Grace home, absolutely, yes, is not enough. Oh I'm not
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: talking about his mates. After he has been saved by Rocky,
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: he's like, I'll watch you sleep, but you gotta wake
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: up pal. Yes, yeah, immediately giving Rocky hug when he
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: wakes up. Absolutely, When oh this, yeah, I'm not sure
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: about this. I had brought it up. But when he
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: runs after declining going to save the world, like his
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: first like an she'll like whoa kind of feels like
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: you're betraying me, like him running up there.
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: Ye specifically get Carl saying you know who you are,
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: You're gonna do great.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: When we see Rocky after Grace comes back to his
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: broken down ship, I'm here, buddy. Yeah. And then when
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: we see Grace on Aaron thriving as a teacher.
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: Yeah, especially that line where he's like, can I think
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: about it? And he's like, yes, think.
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: About it, long long time, a long long time. So
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: those are the seven I picked. I feel like I
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: probably missed some early. But what do you think, Riley?
- 1:36:42Speaker 6: I mean, you nailed all the ones that I had
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: thought of. The only one I didn't actively cry during
- 1:36:48Speaker 6: of those was just the like the hug post Rocky
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: waking up, you know what I mean. But it's just
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: because I was still coming down off of the previous
- 1:36:57Speaker 6: emotions that were right right and invest invested in the
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: science that was going on, you know off screen. Yeah,
- 1:37:05Speaker 6: earlier I'm trying to think of that. There was like
- 1:37:07Speaker 6: I mean, maybe the karaoke scene I could.
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: See I thought will send on that one of the
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: few scenes where the Amnijia stuff worked for me. It
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: didn't really work in the movie as well as in
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: the book for me, just because you can't you can't
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: like well, you just can't like switch so abruptly in
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: the visual medium. But when he remembers her singing and
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: then Rocky's like, what what is Grace doing? Question? And
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: he says, having a moment and it's right after she
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: says and one of the lines in it is like
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: have the time of your life or whatever something like that, right,
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: And I just was like, oh, yeah, he's like that's
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: part of his core is he searches for the beauty
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: in it, right, And that's kind of what that song
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: is saying, like, yeah, this sucks, but also there is
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: good stuff too.
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: I just thought that was beautiful. I loved that.
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: Part so good.
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: I can't think of anything else like that was that
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: would tug too much more than those ones at the
- 1:38:11Speaker 6: heart strings.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: All right, So we got eight.
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: There's a few more. Let's see. Uh, we had some
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: hype tears make an appearance, uh tears when blip A
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: is first detected. That was definitely a hype hype tears moment.
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: Loved okay, loved it.
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: Rocky's little little triangle finger tapping on the glass for
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: the first time.
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: I loved that. It was so fun.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: Oh, just the astrophage on me star bad Bad, Bad,
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: Bad bad Wreck, Rocky happy not alone, twenty three Iridians
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: on ship now only want just like that?
- 1:38:47Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, about that realization was really tough.
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: Also, sure I forgot this on my reread. He was
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: out there for like forty six years I think or
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: something like that. Yeah, after he hit shipmates died just waiting,
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: which I don't know if that's the same.
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: In the movie, but in the book, that's crazy.
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: Uh Grace Rocky safe Stars is a great line, and.
- 1:39:12Speaker 6: That's a good quote.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: That's there also on a few shirts that I may
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: or may not be purchasing.
- 1:39:18Speaker 6: Let's see, I want to see you and ads you
- 1:39:23Speaker 6: like closing and modeling.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: And then the last one was Earth. When he hands
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: them in the hacky sack, it's when they're saying goodbye,
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: so it's kind of just their whole goodbye. But he's
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: like Earth, so you can remember me, and Rocky goes,
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: Rocky can't forget, just goes, I didn't get you anything,
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: and he's like, you gave me everything, and I was
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: just like.
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: I got me to, I got me to. I cried
- 1:39:52Speaker 6: a lot in this one. Guys too, and I just
- 1:39:55Speaker 6: holding each other.
- 1:39:56Speaker 7: I know you guys needed to be there.
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: Me.
- 1:40:00Speaker 7: I have to go, you guys, but thank you so
- 1:40:02Speaker 7: much for having me.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: You're wonderful. Thank you.
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: Yes, have fun, you know, just keep in mind that
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: I would have won the games.
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: Please do it to your son on my behalf.
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: Yes, say hello to your babies for us. By So
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: thirteen then thirteen pretty reasonable?
- 1:40:23Speaker 6: Yes, Yes, that's a. That's a. That's one of the
- 1:40:26Speaker 6: higher by one of the higher boohoo counts of one
- 1:40:31Speaker 6: of them that.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: I've been two and a half hours. We have had
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: a long run time.
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: I have seen it a lot yep, which yeah for
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: some people means less, and read.
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: It a couple and read a couple of times too.
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I think like four times I've read it, which
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: is weird.
- 1:40:43Speaker 6: Wow, man, I mean, I, like I said, I don't
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: read books in the first place, but this is one
- 1:40:48Speaker 6: that I would having listened to it, I think that
- 1:40:50Speaker 6: I'd have a lot of fun actually physically reading it
- 1:40:52Speaker 6: and be able to like lock into it, having the
- 1:40:55Speaker 6: having the audio book having the movie in my mind.
- 1:40:58Speaker 6: Now my brain would be like, yeah, enraptured by it
- 1:41:02Speaker 6: physically in page forms.
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: Also just so good at making it like those little
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: like cliffhangers, and yeah, the momentum so.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: Good, it's great. Yeah, the books page it's crazy.
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: I think I said the first time I read it,
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: like was laying in a hammock and I didn't have
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: anything to do that day and I read for like
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: eight hours stretch or something like that.
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: Nuts, man, you know your gripped when you can't literally
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: can't stop perfect.
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: Let's do some movie trivia. I think we've said a
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: few of these, but we have yees.
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: To centering up. I'm centering up here.
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: Find your center.
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: Sorry for the microphone and banging around, that's all right,
- 1:41:42Speaker 6: no worries.
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: The scene where Eva or were Strat is her first.
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: Name, Eva, It's weird. I only think of.
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: Sings. Karaoke was not in the original script. Ryan Gosling
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: overheard Sendra Heuler singing between takes and ask her to
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: perform for the movie. And that was just forty eight
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: hours before filming that scene. So Huler agreed and selected
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: that as her song.
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I watched him say that on a talk show.
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: Yeah, that's pretty crazy.
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: Right, that's so cool.
- 1:42:15Speaker 6: I love stuff like that. What a powerful was he was?
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: He like an executive.
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: Producer on this, but he got the rights for it
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: after he first read the book because he was like,
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: I want to him on this, this is no And
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: it was before the Marton came out. I think if
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: I remember, right, whoa really So he's been like on
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: it for a while.
- 1:42:36Speaker 6: As far as the Martian comparison too, I want I was,
- 1:42:39Speaker 6: I thought I had earlier. That sort of weaves into
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: the hot take a little bit just about like in
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: the book, Ryland is like very intellectual. We get a
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: lot of internal monologue and a lot of like science,
- 1:42:50Speaker 6: and we see this dude is like very very very
- 1:42:53Speaker 6: very intelligent, and he's not as goofy like we were saying.
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:42:56Speaker 6: But I feel like part of that characterization for the
- 1:42:59Speaker 6: movie was maybe distinguish him from Wotney a little bit
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: from the Martians, because Lotte's funny.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: He's very funny, Yeah, super funny.
- 1:43:06Speaker 6: But he like it is smart boy energy the whole
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: like like more so like more stoic and smart. And
- 1:43:14Speaker 6: then there's some humor woven in there too, where this
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: is almost like more humor, you know what I mean.
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: I feel like that was maybe a conscious thing to
- 1:43:20Speaker 6: separate it from another Andy Weir adaptation a little bit.
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: Ye, that's what I was thinking though, was like that
- 1:43:27Speaker 6: would make sense.
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: I thought this was cute. Ryan Gosling's daughters, as Morelda
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: and Amada, occasionally spoke for his alien co star Rocky
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: through Gosling's earpiece on set, and when speaking of their help,
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: Gosling said, there's some moments in the movie where I'm
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: laughing or I'm just charmed by Rocky, which is basically
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: just me talking to my kids and they're helping me out.
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: I just thought that was very cute, lovely love that.
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: Let's see. Oh, one of the I don't know if
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: we said this during but one of the rejected Rocky
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: voices when they're picking and we get the Meryl Streep thing.
- 1:44:06Speaker 3: One of them is Ray Porter, who is the narrator
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: of the.
- 1:44:09Speaker 6: Audio book Amazed, Amazing, Ye cameo, I wonder which one
- 1:44:14Speaker 6: he is. I didn't clock that.
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. I never listened to it, so I don't.
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: I don't know either.
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: But he's got such a great voice, such a good voice.
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: I had read that. He he cold read that too, really,
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: so it's not like he like read it a few
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: times and then gave a performance. He was reading it
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: like for the first time as he's recording it.
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: Whoa, because I've only heard it's like amazing from somebody.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: Well in the book. He just went and he said
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: when you when they're like the really tender parts, and
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: he sounds like he's like maybe getting emotional. It's like
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: him actually reading. He's experienced wild as in interview.
- 1:44:57Speaker 6: His freaking accents were were amazing, Like you haven't listened.
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: To it, No, I need I need to check highly.
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: With the number of times every read it, you might
- 1:45:05Speaker 6: as well give it a Listen to he the way
- 1:45:07Speaker 6: that he captures the different accents and the different characters.
- 1:45:10Speaker 6: I mean, he can do every freaking accent. He does
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: the sort of like Scandinavian, like the general Eastern European
- 1:45:16Speaker 6: of straty he does, the Chinese he does, which I'm
- 1:45:21Speaker 6: sure I'm sure he had a little bit of prep on,
- 1:45:24Speaker 6: like okay, I gotta do sure you kind of you
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: kind of embody the right accent so that it's consistent
- 1:45:29Speaker 6: throughout the book or the reading of the book. He
- 1:45:32Speaker 6: just crashes it. And then his Rocky is so whimsical.
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: And I think that the the guy Travis is his
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: name who voiced Rocky in this or something.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: Right, James Travis. I don't think we ever said it.
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: No, we didn't say his name specifically, but like, he
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: gets so much props because he he sured the same
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: magic that that Porter was able to in the audio book.
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: Nice, that's so cool. I want to watch it now
- 1:45:58Speaker 6: just so I can pick out which one of them.
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: Is him, which is really cool. I thought this was fun.
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: Lord and Miller are attached to the other book that
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: Andy where has has written Artemis, So that is just
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: in I think it's just in.
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: Production or something.
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: And so was that did that come out before the
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: Martian or is that in between? I guess, I know,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: I have read Artemis and it is good. It is
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: Oh it's not my I like this one more. But
- 1:46:28Speaker 3: I liked Artemis a lot. I thought it was I
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: think it'll be an interesting.
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: Book too or movie. Sorry, it is an interesting book.
- 1:46:35Speaker 6: It is an interesting book.
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: Artemies maybe came out after this, but maybe not. Maybe
- 1:46:41Speaker 3: that's just the order I read them.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: Yeah, Artemis was twenty seventeen, so it was in between
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: the Martian between projects.
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: I'm Mary, No, it's definitely him. Like him. You're gonna
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: like Artemis. It's fun.
- 1:46:53Speaker 6: What a machine just cranking out, cranking out more of it.
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: I don't know how to Yeah, it's good. It's fun.
- 1:47:02Speaker 4: You like it?
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: Oh, I thought this was fun. Andy Weer's initial announcement
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: of the film being made from the book adaptation was
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: on April first in twenty twenty two, and he said,
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: I'm thrilled to announce Emma Stone will be playing Rocky
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: in the film adaptation of Project hil Mary. This will
- 1:47:22Speaker 3: be a reunion of Stone with Ryan Gosling, who will
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: be playing Ryland, and he says though the film will
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: be a little different from the book, the on screen
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: dynamic and romance scenes will more than make up for
- 1:47:35Speaker 3: the minor changes.
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: So obviously like.
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: Part Truth, Part April Fool's Stroke. But I thought that
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: was really fun. See apparently they this is the first
- 1:47:49Speaker 3: film to ever premiere in the stratosphere. There was a
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: Cimex display that was sent into space that played footage from.
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: The film, So that's I don't know how.
- 1:48:00Speaker 3: That works, But that's interesting.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: I just saw today that the crew, the Artemis two
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: crew that's going around the Moon, that they were able
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: to get a sneak preview of this while they had
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: to do their quarantine before they that's such a great,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: tough fun Well, that's really good.
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: No wonder they're quoting it so much.
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: Yea, let's see. Grace briefly mentions that the Iridians haven't
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: discovered relativity. The book goes into much more detail about this,
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: and that's the reason why Rocky ship hasn't so much
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: fuel for the return trip home. They didn't know about
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: the time dilation, and so they brought way more fuel
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: than they needed basically to get to task. So that
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: was a fun thing. I didn't super miss that in
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: the movie, but it is a fun explanation in the book.
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: That's also why they don't know about like radiation and radiation.
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: And like the fact that Rocky was always in his
- 1:49:04Speaker 6: engineering bay and shielded by all of their astrophage fuel
- 1:49:09Speaker 6: one that's why he was one.
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: Thing I super loved in the book that I get
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: why they didn't include. I just thought it was a
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: really neat way of thinking it. They were like, of
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: course they never they never invented, you know, a space travel.
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: The Iridians they weren't like humans. If you don't see,
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: you're not looking out at the stars and dreaming about
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: what's out there for all of human existence and wondering
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: and all these things. Though, that was just like a
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: really poetic, beautiful comparison.
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: And I wonder do they explain in the book what
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: cues the Iridians to the astrophage and how they're able
- 1:49:43Speaker 6: to even navigate space in this it's.
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: Still it still lessens their son, which affects their ecosystem basically.
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: So they realized, they recognized the change in their ecosystem,
- 1:49:57Speaker 6: and then they they just excuse me, science their way into.
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: Because they had some they're such good engineers, they figured
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: it out. They they actually build a space elevator, oh right,
- 1:50:09Speaker 3: and all that stuff. So they do it all like
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: a slightly different way. But yeah, and because they have
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: seen and all that stuff, right.
- 1:50:16Speaker 6: They've got the ZENA and I, they can like print
- 1:50:18Speaker 6: it on demand like rapidly, and they.
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: Can make the astrophage a lot easier than they can
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: on Earth because it's so hot there that they can
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: use that energy and stuff.
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: Good, thank you for minding me. Yeah, that's all crazy.
- 1:50:31Speaker 3: Let's see, apparently Ryan Gosling didn't know that people with
- 1:50:36Speaker 3: glasses don't hang them from off their ear below. I
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: was just about to this that weird thing he was
- 1:50:45Speaker 3: doing it.
- 1:50:45Speaker 6: It's like a funny quirk. He kept doing it, and
- 1:50:47Speaker 6: it was like, Okay, that's a funny little character quirk.
- 1:50:49Speaker 6: I guess, but like, we don't do that.
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: Apparently, well, he didn't realize until several weeks into filming
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: that people don't do this, but they shot so much
- 1:50:57Speaker 3: that he was like, I guess it has to stay now.
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: And I actually loved it.
- 1:51:01Speaker 3: I was gonna mention.
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: I was like, we got all three of us got spectacles.
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: It's like, uh, Daniel Craig does it in The Girl
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: with the Dragon Tattoo as well, which is kind of
- 1:51:13Speaker 3: a funny thing if you do remember that. Let's see,
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: I don't I think we said that.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: Yeah, we said that one already.
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: There's two key details for two of the major decisions
- 1:51:28Speaker 3: left out from the film. The first, the main reason
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: why Grace was kept always said this, it.
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: Was the gene. That was the gene.
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: One. Yeah, I don't actually that I don't need to
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: read that.
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: Then that's basically all it was.
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: Uh, there was a couple of things that they left out.
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: They nuked the polar the ice cap to you know,
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: try to make things better, to get methane out into
- 1:51:55Speaker 3: the atmosphere.
- 1:51:56Speaker 6: Basically create global which.
- 1:51:58Speaker 3: Is kind of a fun thing. And they essentially pave
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: all of the Sahara desert to uh to to breathe
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: the astrophage.
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: I get why they didn't include that.
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: It's a lot of extra stuff, but it was kind
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: of interesting, So that was no.
- 1:52:14Speaker 6: Yeah, those were the sciencey things that were like a
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: little bit right, like not even like sad to not
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: see because like those weren't necessary for the plot. Yeah,
- 1:52:23Speaker 6: but added depth to the like to just the weight
- 1:52:26Speaker 6: of the situation that Earth is in and the the
- 1:52:30Speaker 6: the means they're having to go to to to create
- 1:52:33Speaker 6: the potential solution that hopefully works that.
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: They just don't know.
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: Yeah, for like thirteen years at least, what was it
- 1:52:41Speaker 6: twenty six years there and back and then oh my god,
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: he said, the probes are here.
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: The Beatles are here. Yeah, the beetles.
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: Oh, it's so funny. That was great. I loved the Yeah,
- 1:52:51Speaker 4: really great.
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: Uh, Yeah, that was it. That was all the trivia
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: I had, Rob, did you have very cool?
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't. They didn't really see anybody else
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: that was up for stuff. I mean, we knew Ryan
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: Gosling was going to be attached, and then the only
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: thing I heard was that originally Carl was not going
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: to be as big of a role, and they kind
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: of just vibed on set and he got more lines,
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: And yeah, I hope that actor.
- 1:53:16Speaker 3: Gets more work because he's he's great.
- 1:53:18Speaker 6: I know, he's that home depot like montage was hilarious,
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: you know, and then then the physicality of what they
- 1:53:25Speaker 6: were doing and like building their contraptions and stuff together. Yes,
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: it was fun. It's fun, a fun friendship to introduce
- 1:53:33Speaker 6: into it.
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that's all I had.
- 1:53:37Speaker 3: Judgment, Ay, will there be a sequel?
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: Will there be a sequel? Well, you mentioned that the
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: directors are gonna go after Artemis, the other Andy Wear novel,
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: which isn't aque to this or a prequel to this,
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: But I did see in an interview that Andy were
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: hinted at possibly writing a sequel.
- 1:53:57Speaker 6: That'd be crazy. I was gonna say not if it's
- 1:53:59Speaker 6: not sanctioned. By him and not if it's not based
- 1:54:02Speaker 6: off of something he does, because that was a perfect story,
- 1:54:06Speaker 6: you know.
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: Yeah, because somebody in an interview asked him a certain
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: question like why didn't you have this, He's like, I'm
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: going to say that because that's good material for a
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: past suggesting it right.
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: Because I and I assume what they were talking about
- 1:54:20Speaker 3: is because they kind of reference it at the end
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: of the book. Throughout the book they talk about how
- 1:54:25Speaker 3: well we must be seeded from kind of the same whatever,
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: whatever made life originally must have been like a common ancestor,
- 1:54:34Speaker 3: and they at the end of the book they talk
- 1:54:37Speaker 3: about maybe going space traveling to find other other life
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: around them. Basically, now that we know there's intelligent life
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: out there, do we go look?
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: And it's kind of said in passing, but maybe you
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: could make a compelling book about that. I don't know
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: if anyone can. He probably can.
- 1:54:55Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure, right, story comes along heck yeah.
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: So yeah, let's play a game. You guys want to
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: play a games, do it. I'm gonna do a starting
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: five for you. I'm gonna name five actors from a
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: film when you know the film you're gonna ring in
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: with your name. If you get it wrong, no negative points,
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: but you won't be able to guess again for that movie.
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: And if their actors' names remaining, you can guess those
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: for a point each. The other person can steal if
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: you get any of those wrong. And all of these
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: films have something in common. When you know the theme,
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: you can ring it at any time for a point.
- 1:55:28Speaker 6: Mike's coming off, I'm locking in, like, oh.
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: He's like he is focused?
- 1:55:33Speaker 6: Does it have a lot of interference when I hold
- 1:55:34Speaker 6: it like this?
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: Like? Not at all?
- 1:55:36Speaker 3: Good?
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: Okay?
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: Lock of evict Number one Steven Ford, anybody. Nobody has
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: it yet, Gerald Ford's brother. Nobody knows. But the second
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: name you're gonna you're gonna know. Number two, uh, Carrie Fisher.
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: Oh ever heard of her? Number three is Bruno Kirbys
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: Biggs when Harry met Sally, When Harry met Sally is correct?
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: You have two names remaining, Billy Chrystal correct.
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: I can't think of her name right now. This is.
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: Nice three points for I gotta change.
- 1:56:24Speaker 6: That's so that's a that's a beloved one there, Yeah,
- 1:56:27Speaker 6: it's never beloved.
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: This one is not as beloved. Let's go to number two.
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: The first name is uh Jim caveasl Oh. The second
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: name is John Michael Higgins.
- 1:56:45Speaker 4: I think I know that name, but I don't.
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: I didn't know either of those people in the Yeah,
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: he's in some of the Christopher Guest films. He's in
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: the Breakup with Vince Vaughan, and he was like part
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: of the The Tone Rangers.
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, okay, anyway.
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: Number three is Anne Bancroft, lady from the Graduate. Number
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: four is Vigo Mortensen. That is the only person I
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: knew in this movie so far. Vigo is Vigo. I know.
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: The final name is Demi Moore.
- 1:57:31Speaker 3: What the hell for?
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: What? T one? It was a film called g I
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: Jane where she becomes a arranger or something.
- 1:57:48Speaker 6: I would list that in movies I know of. I
- 1:57:50Speaker 6: would never have thought, yeah, yeah, I never would have
- 1:57:53Speaker 6: kind of liked that movie.
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: Yeah, Vigo is kind of the main kind of drill
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: sergeant to get Yeah, that makes sense interesting. Yeah, all right,
