• 0:01
  [upbeat music] Hello, everybody.
• 0:24
It's Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 134. Woo. I think we're gonna call this one The Return of Tony Burger. Dun, dun, dun, dun. Triumphant return of Mr. Tony Burger. Still alive. Staying alive.
• 0:40
So he, he ditched us for his, uh, his 30th, 30th year with his, his lovely wife. Yes, sir. Now married for how many of those 30? 19. Nice. We rushed into it. Yeah [laughs]. She was my roommate.
• 0:55
She answered an ad for a roommate, that's how I met her. Awesome. Yeah, pretty good. That was in Colorado somewhere? No, I was in Milwaukee [laughs]. Oh, and then you guys went out there. I had moved east side.
• 1:03
Oh, right on. Okay. Now the place is... It just sold for... It's six apartments and there's three little buildings on Lake and Bellevue, and they just sold for, I believe, $9 million. Wow.
• 1:14
Sh- That's a nice little area over there... it's a beautiful... We had a beautiful apartment. Yeah. Oh, I know exactly- We, we, yeah-... that- We were not on the lease... yeah, the, the, the, the- We were paying by cash.
• 1:22
We lived there for- It's a little compound area that's hidden- Yeah... behind all the trees and such? Yep. I, well, I lived- And then two months later they kicked us out...
• 1:27
I lived right across the street at Bellevue or, um, no, I lived on Bradford and Lake, so right down the block. Right. Yeah. Right on the corner. That was, you know, we were young. We were- Back in the olden times...
• 1:36
we were young. We were crazy. That was when my dad, my dad was still around then. Yeah. Well, what's going on? Uh, rain's going on, I can tell you that much. Yeah, a little bit. Not anymore. It's moist.
• 1:46
Well, not anymore. Well, not anymore- Now it's broken, yeah... today. Yeah. But today- For now... but today it's actually raining [laughs] according to the weather. I know. Being that, yes, Friday today. Oh, today.
• 1:58
Yeah, Friday. Today today. Today today. Ta-da today. Ta-da today. Oh, man. Uh, got some stuff. We're getting the shop moving along a little bit. You know what I'm gonna do?
• 2:09
Take half the stuff out of there so I can actually move around [laughs]. Well, I, I think right now the- Do a Thanos, Thanos snap... I think the- Yeah. I think the, uh, biggest- I wish I could do that...
• 2:17
I think the biggest problem with the bike shop right now is that there's too many damn bikes in there. Too many bikes in the bike shop. Yeah. Yeah.
• 2:22
Uh, we're gonna have some interesting stuff once we actually get more situated with being able to work on and clean up what we got in there, 'cause there's, there's some fun stuff in there. Uh- Cool. I'm excited.
• 2:35
I am excited. Tony sent a, a link this morning, I hate to say it was from Pinkbike, but that's where Tony found it.
• 2:43
Yeah, I took- It, it's been all over the interwebs, and I gotta say, you know, their laziness about the picture wasn't, had, didn't have anything to do with the headline. It was a different part of...
• 2:55
So they did a sustainability report, and the picture was of how they changed packaging, but the headline was something to the effect of carbon frames produce nearly three times the CO2 of alloy frame manufacturing.
• 3:09
And they're throwaway. And, yeah. Well, so are alloy frames, though. Well, you can recycle them. It was just interesting. So I actually downloaded the report and went through it a little bit.
• 3:18
I haven't delved deeply, 'cause it's, it's pretty extensive. But shipping shit across the ocean on container ships is, like, 30% of- Well-... a bike's- I just, uh-... carbon footprint. Yeah. I just saw on the news...
• 3:29
Well, there you go. I just saw on the news tonight that the cost of shipping an entire shipping container ship from overseas went from $3,000 to $28,000 since 2021. Uh, yeah.
• 3:47
I mean, it sorta depends- It, it's-... on how many you're doing and all those things, but yes- I mean-... they are significantly more expensive.
• 3:52
That, that's why all the pri- you know, consumer prices are going up, 'cause they're just churning it out. I think it's- That's why you should buy things-... because of the president's fault... that are made in America.
• 3:58
Biden's fault. Well, everything, everything's Biden's fault- Well [laughs]... until he's out. Then it's the next guy's fault, or lady.
• 4:05
So in, in addition to, 'cause I find this stuff interesting in that we would like to somehow bring some manufacturing back to the United States of America. Right. That's what I'm getting at.
• 4:14
Um, and save that 30%, you know- Yeah. Carbon-... tax, carbon tax of shipping shit on a boat, unless it's nuclear. Give that- They should make nuclear boats in the... give that 30% to workers, you know?
• 4:24
Yeah, in the United States of America.
• 4:26
Um, that Trek says, and this is on the average, I think it's their M- Marlin or some, one of their models, that 430 miles on the bike that you don't drive a car saves the equivalent of the carbon footprint of making the bike.
• 4:40
So you gotta do that f- that 430 miles, and you're, now you're carbon positive riding the bike.
• 4:46
But you, they aren't factoring in the fact that most people that do that put that bike on a car to drive it somewhere- Yeah... to ride it and come back.
• 4:54
That's been one of my, except for, you know, going to visit friends- Unless you're in the city rider...
• 4:58
a long ways away, I don't, you know, I don't go the hour out to the kettles anymore, 'cause it's like, I'm just gonna ride around town. Right. Plus- If I wanna do stairs, they're kinda like climbs...
• 5:07
you, you, yeah, you don't have to dedicate a whole day to riding your bike either. Right. You can ride your bike and have a beer and then- And we got a nice easy-... ride...
• 5:15
to ride a bike in and, you know, if you know what you're doing.
• 5:18
Uh, that was an interesting thing when, when we did, uh, Steel is Real and Zito took a, I don't kn- even know who was on the alt route, 'cause I wasn't on it.
• 5:27
[laughs] But, um, both Spinner and Chewy had never ridden through a city like that, where you're using alleys and parking lots and all sorts of other non-traditional- It's 'cause they're boring...
• 5:39
ways to go, and they were like, "That was one of the greatest things I ever been." So, well, we'll have to get a route through Rochester like that.
• 5:48
We're supposed to go up there and do Clunker, Clunker Talk or Clunker Clatter. What would be a good name for a Clunker episode? I don't know. Uh. Something with K's, because Clunker should be with K- Yeah... not C.
• 6:01
Right. Totally. That's what I think. Right there is what I think, folks. That's what I'm saying. Right. Yeah. Right So I think it was, uh, Wednesday that Captain Kirk made it into outer space.
• 6:17
[laughs] He, he inseminated the outer space. Oh yeah, he rode the big penis to the, to the, to the space He, he actually said that in an interview with, uh- [laughs] He, he, he baldly went. Yeah.
• 6:26
He, he- [laughs] He has a toupee. He's been wearing a toupee since damn Star Trek. Yeah, he has. Well, that's okay. So does Tom Selleck. Baldly. And he, he's a handsome guy with a toupee. Come on. Baldly go. Baldly go.
• 6:37
Hey, ooh, I'm, I'm talking. I'm the wispy one here. Oh, when you're saying baldly, I thought when you inseminate, you were talking the other kind of balls. Oh. Yeah. There we go. All right. Uh-huh, yeah.
• 6:45
So Kirk in space, that's pretty cool. Oh, my goodness. And he knows who to call if he has an at- if he needs an attorney, too. Dun, dun, dun, dun-dun.
• 6:55
Well, it depends on the city because he does those ads in every city- Yeah, I'm sure... in the country. Sure. I've seen him do it in, in various markets, and it's always for a different- Nice...
• 7:03
it's a, well, here it's Hupy and Abrams, I think. Yeah, it is. Call. See? Right now. But it works because I just remembered who they are. I'll never call them- Right...
• 7:11
for the same reason I'll never give them- One, one of them is Zanardo's neighbor, and he says he's a total prick. Hupy and/or Abrams? It's, it's Hup- I think it's Hupy. But, uh- Oh...
• 7:20
also the one Call That Saul thing is in every market, too. Right. He's, yeah. Oh, yeah. He's turn- he's slowly turning into- Yeah... Willy Wonka. But unfortunately, I have to see him.
• 7:26
But it's not, it's not him in every market. Yeah. It's just that term, like Better Call Saul. Yeah. Right. Oh, for sure. Which I wish would come back on. It's my only, my- That's a good series. Yeah.
• 7:34
There's one dude, there's a dude on the South Side of Chicago, looks like, it looks like Jerry Gorillo on these big billboards. He's got, like, the fedora and all this. And it's, I'm like, "Ah, it's Jerry."
• 7:44
And it's like, no, it's like, oh, you know. Yeah. Knocked in a car, call the- The, the only bad time I had in The Swinging Door was when that jackass walked in for lunch. Wearing his pink...
• 7:54
No, he had a pinstripe suit on- Pink suit... and I could not believe how skinny and just ridiculously- Well, oh, that must've been a different time-... huge... 'cause I think JK and I were there.
• 8:02
Oh, by the way, JK is here too. Nice. Hey, JK. Hey. The return of Tony had me kind of- I know... flummoxed before. He's like, "Whoo, whoo." It's, uh, it's, uh, there's a lot to talk about in my life right now, so.
• 8:13
Well, let's, let's, uh, let's delve into some of that, Tony. Well, um, uh- Tony's our special guest today 'cause- Yeah... yeah.
• 8:18
Well, you know, since it's Friday, in, in a couple of days I get to have a Zoom meeting with a judge, and that judge is gonna tell me that I got a kid. Right on. And we finished all the adoption. Daniel...
• 8:33
Matthias Berger. Right on. Wonder boy. Wonder boy. And then Sunday is his birthday. And since he's two years old and we've created him an absolutely perfect fake ID, guess where he's having his birthday party?
• 8:49
Swinging Door? Chuck E. Cheese? Closed on Su- oh, no. It's a Su- it's a Saturday. No. Come on, guys. [laughs] Klinger's for hamburgers. He's going to Black Husky. Oh.
• 9:00
[laughs] You know I haven't been to Black Husky since the strongman competition. No, I have. Hm.
• 9:05
Um, Tim and Tony are gonna let me, you know, well, I just, I said, I asked him if he minded, if they mind if we, you know, 'cause there's kids there sometimes and stuff, and so- Dogs there...
• 9:14
he's like, "We'll, we'll set up the back table for the front table for you by the windows." And the Bremen table, I believe, is what they called it.
• 9:20
And so if anybody in listening land is in Milwaukee on September 20, October 23rd, Black Husky 2:00 to 5:00, there'll be- Is that the tall table so he can get his highchair up there? Yep, yep. Yep. Nice.
• 9:34
Um, you know, there'll be snacks and probably a couple of pies from Riverwest Pizza if they're open then. What's his favorite snack right now? Is there gonna be a bounce- Oh, Jesus Christ. He eats everything.
• 9:43
Is there a bounce house? There'll be no bounce house. Why is there not a bounce- Dunk tank? Why is there not a- No dunk tank... why is there not a bounce house? He's too young for that yet.
• 9:50
How many times have you stepped on the Batman action figures? You see, the, the party isn't for the- [laughs]... normally for the child. It nor- the party is normally for the people throwing the party. Yeah, yeah.
• 9:58
He's not- [laughs] Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm just planting- Uh, I have stepped on-... planting little earthworms... uh, I, I tend to most oftenly step on Robin.
• 10:06
[laughs] I don't know why, but Robin is, tends to be under my foot. I have, I have a couple more of those for you. Yeah. Maybe, maybe birthday party time's the time for another one. I don't know. He's- These are what?
• 10:17
Is it Playskool? I think they're Playskool. I can't tell what those are. I don't know. They might, they might be Marvel. But the Batman. But, yeah. Uh, Fisher-Price. Fisher-Price maybe. Yeah, it's probably Fisher-Price.
• 10:24
He loves them. He loves them, plays with them all the time. The Bat- Hasn't broken anything yet... the Batcave. Right. Breaks a lot of stuff. Uh, yeah, yeah. And then
• 10:33
all you listeners out there, please wear a helmet because I got hit by a car again. Oh, right. Tony got hit by a car. Oh. On, on the Smitty. On the Smitty. Ouch.
• 10:44
Had enough adrenaline to get home, and oddly enough, the wheel would not spin one full rotation without hitting the brake. [laughs] Oh, boy. I'm like- This is pretty tweaked. Yep. Over the hood, man. Over the hood. Wow.
• 10:55
I still bounce. Oh, you've been hit before. I think this is four. Probably get hit again. Probably. Right. You're right. As you say, when you're a daily commuter, it's not a matter of if you've been hit, it's when.
• 11:07
I've never been hit. And how. [laughs] I've, I've never been actually hit. I've, I've run into things, but not been hit. Doors. Door. But that was sort of a- I consider that a hit... that was...
• 11:19
Yeah, that, that was pr- partly my fault though, 'cause I know every idiot out there is gonna open a door on me. Right, right. And at that particular time, I must have thought that person wasn't gonna do it perhaps.
• 11:28
That's on the new. But, uh, so you haven't even inspected the damage yet? I'm, I'm afraid to. [laughs] The batteries melted.
• 11:35
The batteries still work fine, they, they do all their thing, but the connector literally fused. I had to yank with all my power to get it separated, and then I plugged it back in and nothing.
• 11:46
I've, I'm hopeful it's just the controller and the wheel is fine, but it's gonna be a good test. Yeah. Well, you're a battery killer for some reason these days. I am. Yeah, I guess so, huh? Probably.
• 11:54
Did we get any news back from that one? No. I've been, you know, it's, with all that's going on here, I haven't really- Reached out to them yet... tackled a couple of those warranty issues we should probably.
• 12:05
I don't even know if it's a warranty issue. I'm not sure what happened to them. That's really- But the fact that they light up and do a funky dance says- They do... that there should be some way to recover that...
• 12:11
I cannot find any information on the funky dance. Well, we're gonna have to ask them- [laughs]... 'cause it is pretty cool. I, I saved the video. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well, that, yeah, send that to me.
• 12:19
It has to do something- Let me see your fancy dance... 'cause those LEDs change into all different colors that you never even knew could-...
• 12:23
they could do Right, yeah, I, I- There was like some purple and some orange [laughs] and it's like, what the hell? Is this battery pack or something? What's going on in there? [laughs] So yeah, yeah, there's that.
• 12:32
So what do you guys... So they have a s- did you guys do the scooter survey yet? They have a, they have a scooter survey. You can get the link right here on the old, uh- Uh- Yeah... yeah.
• 12:40
Yeah, can we, can we include photos? Dude. Well, are they photos of fingers? Yes. [laughs] Jesus. Well, do, have you done the survey yet? No. Oh, do it. It's, it's worth doing- I will... because they ask- Oh, yeah...
• 12:50
a lot of questions where you can certainly give them the finger on, but it is whether they should make some sort of Milwaukee ordinance that regulates these stupid things. They should. I mean, I'm sorry, did I- [laughs]
• 13:04
I- It's not the scooters themselves that are the problem- No... it's the jackasses riding the scooters- Right... that are the problem. Right, on the sidewalks. Which is illegal. Totally illegal. Of course.
• 13:15
That was one of the questions. Mind your surroundings. Did you know, did you know that it's- I'm sorry... illegal to have two people on one? Did you know you can't ride one if you're under 18? No.
• 13:23
Did you know it, it is- I can go hockey check if you float into me 'cause you're not checking your surroundings- Oh, that-... as you're taking off. Sorry... that's kinda why it's fun to have a stealth e-bike, I must say.
• 13:34
Yeah. Is they, they kinda... You're casually riding along with, you know, and you're just...
• 13:38
And all of a sudden, you hear something behind you or they're, you know, trying to get past you, and then you just push the button. Push the button. And then they're confused. I don't know.
• 13:46
What's your, what's your record for just, uh, tipping them over? I think I'm up to five in a row. I mean- Wow... at one time, just kinda knock them down. Oh, domino style? Domino style. Or Pee-Wee Herman.
• 13:59
Horrible pizza- [laughs]... great idea for scooters. I, I just, uh, r- yeah, true that on both those respects. [laughs] Um, I, I had to throw one off my front lawn.
• 14:10
They had parked it at the new house, like right on my sidewalk, going up my sidewalk to get into my house. I'm like, who does this? Well, did... Was it, uh, somebody that used it, you think?
• 14:19
Or was it somebody deploying it? I think someone rode it there to then cut through to their house on Bo- on Holton, because they got a group of hi- hippies that park on Booth because it's safer than parking on Holton.
• 14:32
And then they think my house is abandoned- Scooters are not very hippie... so they cut through my yard. Oh, gotcha. But very soon- I'm not sure that it's actually safer than Holton, though. Accident-wise? Maybe.
• 14:41
I, I think is what could happen. Not breaking-wise, though. Not breaking. No. Especially when Timbuk3's going on according to everyone in the neighborhood I've been talking to. Timbuk3? Timbuk- yeah, 2, the...
• 14:49
Is that what it is, Timbuktu? [laughs] I don't know. It's the African restaurant and dance club on, right by the- Yeah... by the hostel. Oh. Sutter. Yeah. Sutter and Holton.
• 14:59
Yeah, that sorta has that Casablanca vibe, doesn't it? Exactly, yeah. They... I mean, I've been a couple of times.
• 15:03
Not bad, but yeah, apparently on some nights, depending on the crowd, there's, you know, five, six, 10 cars have been broken into, no move. Well, what the... I mean, I'm just...
• 15:11
Because down at Casablanca, they have the same problem in, in that neighborhood at Brady. It isn't them trying to steal the car or anything.
• 15:21
It's trying to find weapons and drugs in the car, 'cause they know who is in there in those fancy cars. Right. Good point. Yeah. Hate to stereotype, but- It-... it's not stereotyping when it's 100% the way [laughs]
• 15:34
what's going on When, when you have a restaurant that tends to have, you know, the average value of automobiles parked outside of it in excess of a million dollars pretty much every night, yeah, you, you question what's going on there.
• 15:44
[laughs] They're not just there for the food. Some of them might be sports stars. Well, they could be that, but- Maybe none-... not all of them... none, none, none of them are bike racers in this town. No.
• 15:53
[laughs] It's all righty then. [bell ringing] Oh. Oh. We made it. It was a long climb. We did make it. It's a long climb. And by cracky, if JK would be kind enough to, uh, grab another one for me, too. Oh.
• 16:08
I don't know what Tony's doing. I, I'm full up. You know, today is, uh, today is just hams day 'cause [door shutting] I, uh, put on- That's perfect... I don't know how many...
• 16:18
Well, between raining and not riding and w- doing stuff at the shop more and drinking better beer, put on six pounds, so. Right. Oh. Yeah. It's time- For a rinse...
• 16:29
for a little bit lighter beers for a little while- Yeah. Yeah... and a little bit more activity. I've just been, you know, I don't know, being off the bike for a few days y- I just kinda get into a thunk. I do too.
• 16:38
And then it's, like, kinda hard to get back on the bike for that first little bit. Pushups too. Oh, are you done with the pushup challenge?
• 16:45
Oh, I got back in again, but then, uh, since- Have a v- have a motor vehicle that is not in operation- Yeah, that's-... definitely kinda forces your hand. Yeah, no. You got- And you're on the- I-...
• 16:53
you're on the good plan because you've got no choice. Yeah, I know. It's so f- a lot of... I don't have a screaming desire to actually get a vehicle. Yeah. I know I need a vehicle. I know I'll get a vehicle.
• 17:07
I just wanna... You know, I'm like, no, I, I like having to navigate via bike or mooching rides off people. [laughs] There you go. Yeah, there's always- I mean-... a way around. And, you know- Yeah...
• 17:17
I mean, isn't there a Zip parking spot near you or perhaps- There could be... something where- If I needed it, but- N- nothing, nothing, nothing- I like the idea of the Zip better than the Uber- I do too.
• 17:27
I really do too. I wish it would've caught on better... or the Lyft. Yeah. I think it will at some point when, when electric cars are a little bit more- I just really never have a screaming need for a car.
• 17:38
I mean, if I had something, I'm like, oh, yeah, I could haul some shit somewhere, but... But then somebody would ask you to haul some s- Yeah. [laughs]... some shit somewhere. [laughs] Yeah. True.
• 17:45
If you're, like, having a pickup- Yeah... everybody wants you to help them move, you're like, "No." That's the sticker, right? Yes, this is my pickup. No, I won't help you move.
• 17:51
This is my bike, and no, I don't have a trailer, so. [laughs] But actually, I do have a trailer, but I don't know. I'm, I'm working on...
• 18:01
So we're g- uh, coming up apparently at some point in the not too distant future, we're having a clunker. Probably be a... It'll probably be a Chewy show just 'cause
• 18:10
maybe we'll t- talk about it on this show a little bit too, but I've been- Clunker... I've been planning out my two- That's Chewy...
• 18:16
my two clunkers because one of them is much more predisposed to be an around town bar bike, and the other one is much more predisposed to be a little bit more-... adventurous on off-road stuff. Yeah.
• 18:28
I think you could obviously set him up either way. What's Mr. Hand doing over there? What are you doing, Mr. Hand? Klunker Karnival. Klunker Karnival with a K. That's it, with Ks. That should be an event, then. Uh-huh.
• 18:39
Really? With the hand? [laughs] I, I know. I was doing- [laughs] I was doing it for a reaction on that one. [laughs] That was good. That was good. Uh, that would be f- a fun, a fun festival right at the shop.
• 18:50
Klunker Karnival could be like a, a monthly thing where we set up a little, little bar-hopping race course. Yeah. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Oh, I don't know about bar-hopping. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
• 18:58
You might stop at a bar. Dun, dun, dun, dun. Right. Yeah. Dun, dun, dun. The [laughs] Dun, dun, dun... is that your calliope? Yep. [laughs] Uh, speaking of- We're set...
• 19:07
speaking of things that are fun that probably will happen the day after Thanksgiving, I think it's the 20- is it the 27th? Is that the Friday or the Sat- I don't know. Urban Jungle Cross, I think 8? Is it 8?
• 19:20
Somewhere in there. Somewhere in there. Zito's set a date for Urban Jungle Cross- Oh, nice... that weekend of Thanksgiving. We'll nail it down more.
• 19:28
I don't remember exactly what the day is, but it's 27, 28, somewhere in there. Is it in Australia, or is it Minnesota? It's in Australia. Oh. No, it's not. I may be out of town. I'm not sure, but I may.
• 19:38
I, I think it's going to be under the freeway again. I'm not positive about that. Oh, in the- Oh... by Home Depot?
• 19:45
I threw my hat in the ring for having it here, 'cause we could put a mile-and-a-half course up right on this property, but- I don't... I mean, last time I- [laughs] He's like, "I hate wherever last"...
• 19:54
well, I, eh, I know he does. Good. Stay away. I think he just says it for effect, though. Yeah. He just really does hate it. Mm. That's why he's always here. Yeah. [laughs] Um- Where his friends are...
• 20:04
I did happen to see, though, f- I had a good- See them?...
• 20:07
view of that land from the building across the highway, way up on the top of it that UWM has some space in, recently while I was in a foster class, and I don't know if you're gonna be able to get back there.
• 20:21
Yeah, th- we were gonna obviously have to go check it out. Yeah. You know, the, s- well, the one of them is the first Jungle Cross course, which we did for a few years, is now Komatsu. Right. Oh, yeah.
• 20:32
Which is the old, the old- That was so badass... Sawed Lake Co- oh, that was the greatest place. That was so badass. Where you can ride through buildings and over- Mattresses... mattresses and [laughs] Box springs. Yeah.
• 20:40
That was freaking awesome. Down into, down to cesspools of despair and all sorts of- The observation deck. Oh, that was great.
• 20:46
That was- The observation deck that a- you could've just fallen the, fallen through at any moment. The dude that was living in the rock pile? Yeah, that was... We never ac- I never actually saw him. Oh.
• 20:56
Oh, the shit with the, the, the, the shack with the, the hangers and the things and the- No, it was-... da, da, da, da, da... it was just a pile of rocks- It was a, a shack... that he actually had a cave under. Sure.
• 21:05
Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah. Yeah. But, like, when you would, uh... Okay, where Barnacle Buds is, if you look straight across from, if you're at Barnacle Buds, across- You could see it?... like, how the, the path would go.
• 21:16
Oh, I didn't notice that. And then if you looked on your left-hand side, there was a, like a shack. Looked like an outhouse kinda thing. Was it a love shack? Yeah.
• 21:24
But it had just a bunch of, like, hangers and T-shirts tattered and shit. Oh, that was different. I th- that was a diff- That was fucking weird... that was a different thing. I know what you're talking about. Yeah.
• 21:32
This, he, that was not the hermit. That was, I think- That was just weird-... that was- Some dude...
• 21:35
because, uh, you didn't really notice it- I don't know if it was, like, a performance art space or something weird, but- Yeah. You didn't really notice it because you're looking, you know, look at the, you know- Right...
• 21:44
look at the lake, look at the sky, look at this, and it's like, "Oh, shit, look at the outhouse with the weird, you know, shit all over it."
• 21:49
I always thought the best thing about being back there w- w- you either planning a race or doing some work, you know, cops would come through there, undercover guys in cars as cops in squads. Oh, yeah, with the Mad Max.
• 21:59
And they really didn't give a shit. [laughs] Yeah, when the Mad Max ride came through. Oh, yeah, with the motorcycles? Yeah, for sure. [laughs] It was like, "Oh, shit. Yes, yes, yes, yes."
• 22:09
Yeah, that was, that was, you know, in the middle of a city to have 45 acres of, you know, fuck-aroundery was- Yeah... awesome. Oh, yeah. It was like- Yeah...
• 22:17
I remember before going in there, like, w- every time going near it, I'm like, the 10-year-old in me, he's going like, "I wanna run around in there, and I, oh, I wanna make a fort."
• 22:26
[laughs] I wanna, I just wanna have fun in there. I totally wanna just romp around in there. So, to continue the idea, that was gone. Yeah. Okay?
• 22:34
Then we had to come up with another spot, and we did, I di- I don't know if we did only one or maybe two. Just the one. The one at, by Home Depot? By Home Depot, just the one. Which is now completely hosed.
• 22:44
Yeah, it's so muddy and water-logged. It, well, it's also being built upon, and there's big piles, and they're changing the freeway there, and- Oh, that's the one I was referring to Oh, shit, yeah...
• 22:52
so you're thinking of the one that's over by Third Space. I'm thinking of the one that's... Yeah. The fried chicken restaurant. Right. Yeah, just- Yeah, that was-... just west of the Palmetto.
• 23:00
That's a good, that's a good ride, too. Oh. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So that one is probably where it will happen, which is- And that's on-... right downtown under the major 94/43 interchange.
• 23:07
And a lot of that's been swallowed up by the city, too. Right. Yeah, there's, there's abatement ponds and the, the whatever. Prettiness. Yes.
• 23:15
But, uh, hopefully, you know, we, it, it's been used a couple times, and it's been- It looks like-... a fun time each time. Yeah.
• 23:21
It, like, the zone that we normally would use doesn't look like it's being used the way- No, I don't think so... that they're doing. Not right now. Not, not now, anyway. So, no.
• 23:29
We're- They should just have a permanent... What they should have under there- A permanent Jungle Cross track. [laughs] Well, uh, m- maybe not a Jungle Cross. They should have, they should have a, like, a- Something.
• 23:37
Of course... like, a- Pump track... what do you... pump track and a skate park and all that good stuff down there. Yeah. 'Cause it is just a fun zone just to hang out and, like, watch cars- Right...
• 23:46
and- Right So I don't, I don't know what date that is, but it's somewhere around the 27th. I do know what date Joe Buck Yourself is coming to Milwaukee on. That's tonight, isn't it? That's tonight. That's today.
• 23:57
Wait, that was- Tonight... no, it was Wednesday, you guys. You missed it. Joe Buck Yourself is- Friday... today. Friday. Oh, it's Friday. We're, we're heading over there right now. Oh. Yeah, we're on our way. Oh.
• 24:07
After this? Sorry to- Shenanigans again, again, hurry. [laughs] We're hi- mount on our steeds and going. Yeah.
• 24:14
S- so the g- the good thing is that, uh, Saint Chris that was on the show a few weeks back is gonna be jamming there with his friends and the Piss Poor Players and all- Sweet...
• 24:22
the other fun stuff that- Yeah, that will be a jam... could see your- Or, yes, it will be a jam...
• 24:26
your, your, uh, your kinda anti-Nashville, grungy, 357 string band slash, what do you ki- I don't know what you call it, punkabilly. Right. Yeah. I'm going with Punka Billy. I thought they- Be my term...
• 24:37
they told, when I asked Jim Huber what, or Joe Huber what 357 was- Hey, Jim Huber, I wish you were in Milwaukee still... yeah, you were... not the same guy, but I loved you. Yeah.
• 24:46
Uh, Joe Huber said, "We call ourselves Street Grass." Yeah. That's a good one. I like it. Yeah, that's what he described Kinda like-... Street Grass... drag racing on grass- Drag racing... with snowmobiles. Drag racing.
• 24:58
Drag racing. [laughs] Drag racing. Drag racing. Uh, so that's happening. Hot dogs in January. Um, that's actually happening soon. Tweed Ride. Yeah. Who put that on there? [laughs] I did.
• 25:09
Oh, it's back or- Yeah, 10th year apparently. October 23rd, so. That's my nephew, that's my kid's birthday. Oh, the- That's Black Husky. Well, that- Go on the date... sorry, Tweed Rides.
• 25:20
Go on the date, come back- Well, it starts at-... in time for dinner... it starts at Good City and ends at Good City. On Farewell or downtown? Sure. Farewell. Okay. So yeah- Oh, yeah, Tweed Ride- Yeah, yeah...
• 25:29
they do- I was just talking about Good City... they end up doing, I, I haven't been on it since, I don't know, for like five years. You- But I know they like go like long to Walker's Point in front of the- Yeah...
• 25:38
well, the cool thing about the Tweed Ride- And, and take you-... is always- Yeah, you get all jauntied up... what's, what's, who's the dude with the, that does only three-speed stuff?
• 25:45
I always wanna call him like English Joe or something. Oh. Oh, yeah. But there's a guy who has bought almost all of the parts from bike shops in Milwaukee to repair three-speed stuff from ancient times. Huh.
• 25:58
He's got like over 100 Raleighs in his basement. Yeah, he's just, he's totally into it, and I, he's always on the Tweed Ride. He hated, he's like, "I have an RS 16 RSW Raleigh small wheel base."
• 26:12
He's like, "You ride that thing?" And I rode it for the entire, uh, for Steel Is Real that year. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And he was riding with me. He's like, "I ab-" He's like, "I got two of those."
• 26:21
He's like, "I absolutely hate them." Did you say, "I'll give you 50 bucks [laughs] for each one?" He's like, "Sell me 'em, dude. I love 'em." Yeah. For sure. They're a great fun bike.
• 26:28
Anything that is, you know, especially on a ride like Steel Is Real where you're not really, you're not racing, you're not trying to get anywhere hurry, except for JK this year. [laughs] Through some people's prism.
• 26:42
[laughs] Jesus. I, uh, what? Look at me. I'm not... What? No. Some people's prism. Ugh. Uh, the only other thing- Ugh... I got on here is Fat Fish Fenton, Webster, Wisconsin. That's 106 mile long race.
• 26:56
It's fat bike specific course 'cause they got lots of sand up there. 106 miles on a fat bike. You know, this sounds to me somewhat like what Sealy Dave is talking about- Yeah, it does... doing up in that area.
• 27:05
And I would like to see how these guys do it versus, 'cause Sealy Dave's plan for this event is like a festival weekend, not just go up there and ride your bike- And then come home... on some sand and come home.
• 27:17
It's be up there, you know- It's like-... hopefully the day before or two days before... start riding hungover. Eat some breakfast at the local, um, you know- Start gathering woods and berries... and yeah. Possibly.
• 27:30
Yeah, and then we- I don't know. And then maybe have daiquiju at the- And burn shit... at the end show. [laughs] I said burn shit. But, uh, so that, uh, October 30th, Fat Fish Fenton,
• 27:41
m- multi surface, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, Northeast Namakagon River Barrens.
• 27:47
But that's something that I don't think people think about in Wisconsin how much s- there really is a bunch of sand here, which is awesome for fat biking. Oh, true that. And also, the lake is lowering. Oh, finally.
• 28:01
Did you, uh- Oh, yeah... speaking of sand- And Leon's getting large... [laughs] that's a great... Um, did you happen to see that one of our fellow riding buddies- Ding... got himself a dune buggy for him and his girls?
• 28:13
A dune buggy? A dune buggy. Does he go, "Brr"? Dune buggy. No. Shannon. Oh, Shannon. [laughs] He bought a VW that's been converted to a dune buggy. Oh, for like a- Oh, like speed-... a Bug? Like a Speed Buggy?
• 28:26
Yeah, but, but really tastefully done. Not a Thing, 'cause those were cool. Not a Thing. That would be the best. I want a Thing so bad. Or a, no, Brat was Subaru. They're so expensive. Anyway. Yeah, no kidding. God.
• 28:35
Like, oh, that would be fun. Is, is it the old, uh, is it actually a Bug based one? Yeah, 1600cc. Not the fiberglass one you could buy that uses the Bug- No, I think the a- Remember that one? I forget what it was called.
• 28:48
It had like- Mc- Mc- Schmickle-Schmackers or something. It, it's- I forget what it was called. I'll, I'll get you a picture of it. It's pretty legit. It was like Speed Buggy. That would be good since- Yeah...
• 28:57
it was like Scooby-Doo, like the Scooby-Doo crew, but with the- The Speed Buggy, yeah... but with the- I thought it was a Manx or something maybe. I can't... Yeah. But it was a fiberglass- You just base, yep...
• 29:07
shell that used a VW running. Fancy. Yeah. Yeah. It was cool. My dad bought molds for something similar to that way back in the olden times, and never ever, ever, like a lot of his projects, did anything with it.
• 29:21
I wonder where I get that from. I get it from my dad. [laughs] I was, I, my mom had a, she had a Beetle, and I remember looking at
• 29:32
magazines, anything, and I noticed like where you could buy like the new or like a replacement, uh, hood, and then- Oh, it made it look like a Rolls-Royce? Yeah. [laughs] It'd have a Rolls-Royce grill on it.
• 29:44
Yeah, those are- And I'm just like- They're pretty cool... "Mom- What movie is that?... totally, you have to get that."
• 29:47
That's, that's in a total stoner movie where he rolls up and they have this camera angle on it and it looks like a Rolls-Royce. It was... I shit you not. And then gets out of a Bug.
• 29:55
Sounds like Dumb and Dumber or something similar. Oh, fuck. I, I- It's older than that, but yeah. Yeah, yeah. Oh, I, I [laughs] and even at that time it was not out of the realm. I mean, even with inflation- It-...
• 30:04
it was like, I'm saying, I don't know, 100 bucks. It translated up to like 500 bucks now. JC Whitney sold that. For something- Yeah... just, yeah, just for a, just a joke. Fuck yeah, that's a 500- That was a fun joke...
• 30:15
it is technically your trunk. You're adding [laughs] a lot of space. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. [laughs] You could fit, you could fit three golf club bags- Right... in the front of your- Oh, my God... Beetle.
• 30:24
And if you got the gas heater for it, you'd likely burn the thing to the ground with that. Well, that's- I did. I was able to talk my dad into driving me with me in the trunk. Really? [laughs] Yeah. That's awesome.
• 30:35
Looking out through the grill I, well, just, like, down the block Uh-huh. [laughs] I was just like, "I just really wanna figure- I just really wanna, like, this'll be fun." I don't know. It was fun.
• 30:46
My buddy had a- Sorry, Mom... my buddy had a [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] My buddy had a Karmann Ghia with the Volksmatic transmission. It was a four-speed
• 30:55
on the floor, but every time you put your hand on the shifter it went into neutral. Oh, Jesus. That was the weirdest freaking car I'd ever driven in my life. Did it have a button? No.
• 31:05
No, as soon as you touched that s- shifter, it went into neutral, and you pulled it into second, took your hand off, it was in second. It was touch-sensitive? I don't [laughs] how, how it works.
• 31:14
I test drove a, a, a Jeep Compass that was kinda like that, where it was like, I barely, like, I, I, like, addressed it and it was like, "Oh, wait, whoa, no." Okay. "This is... No." Yeah.
• 31:28
I'm glad I pulled that- Somebody-... Manx, Manx dune buggy right out of the old- Is that it?... cobweb. That's it, yeah. Yeah. It, it, there's tons of images of them, but it's that, it's that- Oh, fuck yeah...
• 31:38
it's that thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. For, for sure, for sure. Yeah, and if you look at- Yeah. Oh, that's a badass one right there... and then you put '70s cartoon- Meyers Manxter 2 by 2.
• 31:48
It's, yeah, Meyers Manx, that was it. Wow. Huh, that wasn't... Yeah, okay. Like that? Uh, possible. They had a, yes, very similar. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's the two-seater. They have a four-seater.
• 32:01
No, this is a four-seater. Oh, is it? Nice. Mm-hmm. All right, well- Yeah... yeah, yeah, 12K. Yeah, yeah. We got it for less than that. What kinda motor they got in there? Is that a- 1600...
• 32:10
is that a VW motor, or has it got- Yeah... dual Webers on it? Has it got nice, uh, has it got nice pipes? I think it's a single Weber, and I think it's a, it's not the 1600 dual port, ah, I think. I don't know.
• 32:21
Shannon, call us in and tell us, you know? We haven't called that- Oh, that's, that's-... in a long time... his car? That's the one he bought. The blue one? Yeah. Does, is it, like, sparkly bass boat colored?
• 32:27
I- 'Cause that was the coolest thing about that... I do have a video of it, so I'll have to look. Yeah, they was, they always had that- Oh, wow... great sparkle paint job.
• 32:32
Right, just, we have a awesome purple, I don't even, what I even call it, I'd call it an urban BMX bike with seven-speed, uh- Wow... Nexus gear transmission stuff that is the bass boat purple badass color. Oh, yeah.
• 32:47
Yeah, that is- Someday, somebody has to buy that. I did send the, uh, orange- And- I sent that orange 24-inch simplified cruiser BMX bike down the road to, I think, Kansas City or Omaha, one of those places. Oh, cool.
• 33:01
He w- he wrote back and said, "Oh, sorry I haven't wrote back. It's badass." Nice. Right?
• 33:05
And, you know, I don't normally swear on the show, and you guys know that, but I'm just gonna say, fuck you, Chewy, I'm not turning the Ape into an electric bike. Wait, what? Why would you do that? Right?
• 33:16
[laughs] All right, everyone, we did it one more time. There you go. Oops. We did it again. One more time. JK is ready for a smoke. Oh, yeah. And we're ready to catch you next week. You'll see. Have a great week.
• 33:31
Hey, thanks for this pop culture-oriented show, and I guess we- I'll be, I'll be a dad by then... did talk a little biking. I hope. Yeah, right on. Next week, 1:35, if you're so inclined.
• 33:40
I hope something really good happens to you next week. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, baby. Yeah. [upbeat music]
