- 0:315 until 6. Here's what's coming up with
- 0:34Trent and myself in the next couple of hours.

- 0:39bottom of the hour, Paramount Sports.
- 0:41Lee Sterling will join us. He's a sports Andy capper.
- 0:45If you'd like to listen in on how Lee sees the games this
- 0:48week, obviously, we hope that you will.
- 0:50And then if you'd like to get involved with
- 0:52paramountsports.com, Lee will give you the Intel on how to do
- 0:56that. But Lee Sterling coming up here
- 0:57at the bottom of the hour, then Dave Sinican.
- 1:00The Packers, those Green Bay Packers came to life in the
- 1:03second-half of Sunday Night Football.
- 1:05They get the Carolina Panthers this week.
- 1:07We'll check in on our weekly spot with Dave Sinican on the
- 1:11Packers own coverage.com and KFAN in the Twin Cities where he
- 1:15hosts Packer Preview on Sunday mornings.
- 1:18Our number 2, we'll talk Iowa State with Travis Hines,
- 1:21columnist for the Des Moines Register.
- 1:22Football and basketball with Travis to kick off our number 2.
- 1:26And then Stephen M Simple in his normal spot as the Huskers take
- 1:30on USC. They've already solidified bowl
- 1:34eligibility, but still stuff to play with because there are play
- 1:37for rather because they're one of those many teams that with
- 1:40two losses currently in the Big 10, Trent will make some picks.
- 1:45Circus Sports sponsor those and we'll skedaddle on out of here
- 1:48right before 2:00. How are you?
- 1:50I'm doing well. It's had a great night last
- 1:53night, finishing it off, dominating our new producer here
- 1:56in the building, kind of Ferguson.
- 1:57I saw you guys on Twitter, so that's that.
- 2:00Our video game, the. Video game, Yeah, the NCAA game.
- 2:03And it's been a struggle this year for my boys.
- 2:05Yeah, Texas Tech took it to Connor and his Internet craft
- 2:08out as I was winning 24/7. So he takes sale.
- 2:11That's did he unplug? Do you think you know the white
- 2:14flag? People are wondering, people are
- 2:15wondering. Not a good start for Connor
- 2:18here, at least on that side of things at KX and O, but doing a
- 2:20great job with Shawn and Lucas. I I met Connor the other day,
- 2:23you know, he said to me. What's that?
- 2:25Nice to meet you, Trent. Oh yeah, you're not Trent.
- 2:27I'm I'm old. I'm not that well.
- 2:30We do sound a lot alike and little look a lot like.
- 2:32I get that. I get that a lot anyways.
- 2:35Well, wait, so what's next for you?
- 2:37You're moving on in this thing. Well, I'm six and three, OK.
- 2:40But yeah, the the hopes of a national championship are off
- 2:43the table after a run last year, the semifinals.
- 2:46Don't think that my Red Raiders are going to get there this
- 2:48season. We're we're playing off the
- 2:49string. You know, we might have an
- 2:50appearance down in Arizona. We'll have a good holiday,
- 2:53though. So as Kirk says, all bowl games
- 2:55are good games. And so we're going to take our
- 2:57bowl game and go. For it I agree with him on that
- 2:59because anything that makes football last a little bit
- 3:01longer and that's the one with the listeners participation
- 3:06right Yep, gotcha OK, good stuff.
- 3:08Well, I guess we should start with the with the baseball in
- 3:11the World Series is the scene shifts back to Toronto and it's
- 3:15Toronto that is one game away from from winning a World
- 3:19Series. It's just remarkable Trent this
- 3:20Trey you savage story. I can't get enough of it.
- 3:23I know and the audience knows I would hope by now that that's my
- 3:26squad. I get it, but just it's unheard
- 3:30of what a where he's come from to get to this point.
- 3:33And then when you see that he tied a record set by Don Newcomb
- 3:38in 1949 or he went past Sandy Koufax.
- 3:43I mean these are two Hall of Fame pitchers 2 of the who's who
- 3:46that have ever told the rubber in in baseball.
- 3:50Trent, he's in the 1st 5 innings, struck out every
- 3:54Dodger, everyone. I mean, if you ever heard that
- 3:57before, I'm sure it's happened. The Dodgers too.
- 4:00The Dodgers, too. Yes, this isn't a regular season
- 4:03start in June. No, this is in the World Series
- 4:07on the road against that line up and you do that.
- 4:11He was absolutely incredible. That was the miss that I had
- 4:14last night and Blake Snell left some balls in the middle of the
- 4:18play. Well.
- 4:18Especially the first 3 pitches here.
- 4:22Here's just let me just run through this real quick 'cause I
- 4:25get a kick out of this. Here's the starters yesterday
- 4:27for Toronto and their salaries. A David Snyder 780,000
- 4:31Guerrero's Making 28.5 million Bichette 17.5 Kirk 4.6 Farsh O
- 4:368.2 Ernie Clement 2,000,000 Addison Barger 710,000 Kyner
- 4:41Filippo 1.1 million Jimenez 10.6 million Trey You Savage $57,000.
- 4:49Hasn't been up in the leagues the whole time.
- 4:51But compare and contrast that to the Dodgers and what they're
- 4:55making and what they're doing and somehow this, I'll use your
- 4:59team pluck term plucky. A little team from north of the
- 5:03border is one way, one win away from winning a World Series I.
- 5:08Mentioned it to you yesterday. Just the makeup of this team,
- 5:12the belief that they have it's, it's not player speak or coach
- 5:16speak. It's real.
- 5:17It's something, isn't it? Yeah.
- 5:19There is something special about this group.
- 5:21They just believe, no, this isn't.
- 5:23We're not an underdog, we're the better team.
- 5:26And doing it without Springer. And doing it without Springer, I
- 5:28mean, just add another layer to this story.
- 5:31It is incredible. And you mentioned the Dodgers
- 5:35payroll and what they have and, and throughout the course of
- 5:37this season. Here is their payroll table for
- 5:40this season. You start with Otani, who's at
- 5:4528 million payroll salary, but it's actually 70 million with
- 5:50the deferred money. I if it was a per year basis,
- 5:53$70 million. You start there, 30 million for
- 5:55Glass. Now Snell makes 26.
- 5:57Mookie Betts makes $25 million a year, 27 base salary for Freddie
- 6:02Freeman, Yamamoto 12, Hernandez 12, Trident, Blake Trident.
- 6:06He makes $11 million a year, 13 for Will Smith.
- 6:09And it continues from there. It's unbelievable.
- 6:12It really, and it's not like your Blue Jays price war.
- 6:14No, there are small marketing. They're owned by a company
- 6:17called the Rod Rogers Communications, which is kind of
- 6:20AT&T, ESPN all rolled into one. They own sports net.
- 6:24They own mean you, you, if you have Internet in your house,
- 6:28it's Rogers. If you turn on your TV, it's
- 6:30Rogers. They've got monopolies up there,
- 6:32at least it used to be. So they're very wealthy, but the
- 6:35payroll, unbelievable. It's good for baseball.
- 6:39I know it's not good for baseball that the team resides
- 6:41in a different country. I will give you that.
- 6:43It's true. I mean, if this was a team, you
- 6:46know, this was the Royals or the Twins.
- 6:48By the way, hard. Derek Shelton, your thoughts?
- 6:50Whatever. I don't mind it.
- 6:53That are going to suck regardless.
- 6:54True, You can put Tom Kelly back out there.
- 6:56You can put whatever manager, your favorite manager of all
- 6:59time, put Casey Stengel out there.
- 7:01It's not going to matter. They're going to.
- 7:02Saw Joe Torre. Yeah, they're probably so
- 7:04sparky. Yeah, but Sheldon.
- 7:05Casey Stengel reference I don't know where that.
- 7:07One came. No kidding.
- 7:08Well done. I watched a lot of his Pirates
- 7:11teams. They competed.
- 7:12Yeah, they competed. We'll see.
- 7:13He's. Not going to have a whole lot of
- 7:14ammunition, no, with that ownership.
- 7:16No, that, that's unfortunately true.
- 7:17But off we go. Game 6 tomorrow.
- 7:19Yamamamoto. Is the series over?
- 7:21I don't think it is. I don't.
- 7:22Think so either. No, I, I don't think he can go
- 7:24that direct. You know, I, I had this in my
- 7:26notes and as I was watching the game and had a couple of things
- 7:29in there. I think Monday night ruined it
- 7:32for me. Because it was so good.
- 7:33Yeah, and I was just, the last two nights have just been OK.
- 7:37It's not going to replicate just the enjoyment, the anticipation,
- 7:42the edge of the seat. That was Monday night.
- 7:44Even last, these last two games are.
- 7:47The two, the last two games combined, length of games fall
- 7:51short of Monday night. Think about that.
- 7:53Yeah. Crazy.
- 7:55Yeah. It's a good way of looking at
- 7:56it. For somebody that doesn't have a
- 7:59rooting interest. Right, right.
- 8:00It was so good, right? It was, it was unbelievable.
- 8:03Is Otani running on fumes? Yeah, it looks like it doesn't.
- 8:06It sure does. It sure does.
- 8:08Maybe this off day will help him.
- 8:11Certainly I wouldn't think it could hurt him.
- 8:13Jays may get Springer back, I don't know.
- 8:15What? What's that crowd going to be
- 8:16like up there? Bananas.
- 8:17Yeah, absolutely bananas. It's their team.
- 8:20There's only one up there. It's the it's the country's
- 8:23team. So we'll see where it goes, but
- 8:26I don't. I think we're getting baseball
- 8:27on Saturday night. I will be, I'll be not
- 8:31completely surprised, but I I'm, I'm, I'm anticipating we're
- 8:35going to be watching baseball on Sunday night, which our Saturday
- 8:37night, which is great because the college football slate with
- 8:41the exception because I'm all over USC, Nebraska, I can't wait
- 8:43for this. Game, I mean, we yeah, we have
- 8:45the connections there. Iowa plays both those teams here
- 8:48in the month of November. So aside of that though,
- 8:50Oklahoma, Tennessee is just I don't think either of those
- 8:52teams are very good. No, I I think they're both
- 8:55overrated. Both.
- 8:56Yeah. Both kind of eight and four.
- 8:57Yeah, Yeah. And fact they might get to 9 and
- 9:00three and might be arguing about a play up in but I just don't
- 9:02think any of those teams are great.
- 9:04Does Georgia Tech NC do anything for you I.
- 9:07Mean, but yeah, we we love watching King play, but I'm not
- 9:09going to watch them on Saturday night.
- 9:11And look at the World Series game coming towards the end.
- 9:14And then we can flip over to Cincinnati, Utah, and you can go
- 9:17to bed. Yeah.
- 9:17And I can go to bed and you go to bed.
- 9:19Do you have an opinion on that game?
- 9:20I, by the way, I I got to give you credit because you were all
- 9:23over the Soresby story long before I was 2060 days to 1
- 9:28interception. Yeah.
- 9:29And and I go back what happened to him that first Thursday night
- 9:34of the year against Nebraska, because he ran the ball great,
- 9:37but he did not throw it well. And even the final interception
- 9:40and that throw, because that guy looks completely different than
- 9:44the guy we've seen the rest. Of the season he does, he's
- 9:46having a terrific. Year and he's getting some buzz.
- 9:49Not a first round or anything, but he might be a day two pick,
- 9:52you know in the draft like third round or something like that for
- 9:54SO. You put up those kind of
- 9:55numbers, Yeah, You're going to get the very least, you're going
- 9:58to get invited to the combine and be able to, you know, to in,
- 10:02in his case, hopefully help his stock.
- 10:05He's a thick dude. Is he 6?
- 10:073240 He's a big guy, too. Yeah, I'm with you.
- 10:10Good stuff. All right, football tonight.
- 10:14Lamar Jackson going to be back. Boy, Jackson got a little
- 10:16serious with his teammates. He took out all of the toys from
- 10:19the locker room. Did you hear that?
- 10:21I did. It's about a lot of time we
- 10:22start playing football, we are going to concentrate on that.
- 10:25The ping pong table is gone. The pinball machine is gone.
- 10:29All of those toys in the clubhouse, they are gone.
- 10:32Let's concentrate on football because, you know, it's not
- 10:34gone. The AFC North is not gone.
- 10:37I think it's very much up for grabs.
- 10:40Yeah. Joe Burrows, Cincinnati, yes,
- 10:42he's going to be back. And right now, Baltimore is
- 10:44looking up at them. But Pittsburgh's, what, 4 and
- 10:493-4 and three, I think, yeah, four and three.
- 10:52And the the Ravens right now, 2 and 5 S the AFC North, anything
- 10:57but settled at this point. We will see what tonight's game
- 11:01does #7 1/2. And I, I got to believe I, I
- 11:05did. Baltimore, with Lamar Jackson
- 11:07back in tow, is going to come out on the right end of this
- 11:10one. We shall see.
- 11:12But other than that, not a lot going on.
- 11:14There's a couple of decent college football, a decent
- 11:18college football games tonight, one of the American Conference
- 11:22that might be the back and forth flip between the coverage on
- 11:26prime Prime Video, but we'll see where that one goes.
- 11:29Miami, Baltimore tonight have not seen the forecast, but
- 11:32Baltimore favored just over a touchdown for that one.
- 11:36All right, Lee Sterling coming up at the bottom of the hour, we
- 11:39will talk to Dave Syndicate on the Packers.
- 11:41The Packers, they lead the way in the north five and one
- 11:45currently for the Packers. Well, we'll talk to cynic in
- 11:48about that is it'll take on Carolina and I think Bryce Young
- 11:51is playing, is he not? I think he is.
- 11:53Where's it Dalton? I didn't.
- 11:55I haven't seen that. I think it's Bryce Young.
- 11:57I think he's going to be back for this game.
- 11:59Looking at the injury report for that match up, let's see what at
- 12:03least the latest listing is. Don't even see him show up on
- 12:07the injury report. Dalton is listed as
- 12:09questionable. OK.
- 12:10So that's that's. The Bryce Young will be out
- 12:12there then I think the likelihood against Green Bay and
- 12:15they'll go to six, one and one and we'll still won't know.
- 12:17But you know what, I I kind of felt that I learned something
- 12:20about them in the second-half against Pittsburgh.
- 12:22And it was all based on Jordan Love's performance.
- 12:24I mean, he was unbelievable. Wasn't he perfect in the
- 12:27second-half on Sunday night? I don't think he had an an
- 12:29incompletion if he did. There weren't many of them, but
- 12:32he was really good. Now, I'll give you the fact that
- 12:34Pittsburgh's defense is not what we're used to.
- 12:38Normally they play a little defense in in the Steel City.
- 12:41That's not the case this year. I think Baltimore can.
- 12:44I mean, now I understand why the markets were reluctant to make
- 12:49the Steelers an overwhelming choice in the North and kept
- 12:52Baltimore and them relatively the same numbers.
- 12:56Because Pittsburgh, I just don't think is very good, no.
- 12:58They're 2 back with tend to play 2 back with tend to play, you
- 13:02know, and in the NFL with this Baltimore team, getting Roquan
- 13:07back for them defensively last week was a huge difference maker
- 13:10too. They're still not going to be
- 13:12Baltimore a great defense, I don't think.
- 13:14But can they be competent? Can they be below average?
- 13:18Because they certainly weren't even that.
- 13:19I mean, that was the AD minus at best defense.
- 13:22And now with Roquan back, can you get back to AC minus?
- 13:25I think is that good enough? Good enough to win the division,
- 13:28get in the play offs? It's.
- 13:29Not an 8 going to win that division.
- 13:31We've seen it before, we've seen it before.
- 13:35What's going on with Derrick Henry, 'cause you couldn't find
- 13:39anyone prior to the season that didn't want to get a ticket on
- 13:43Derrick Henry, Offensive Player of the Year, Everything that was
- 13:47out there for him, people were snapping it up.
- 13:50He's having a disappointing year by his standards.
- 13:53And yet he's still averaging 4.7 yards per carry.
- 13:57Now a year ago he averaged almost 6A carry.
- 13:58Maybe that throws it off, but this is the most yards per carry
- 14:02that he's had since the 2000, 2020, one season outside of a
- 14:05year ago. Getting Lamar back there and a
- 14:07Lamar that could run more importantly, I think is going to
- 14:10open up even more. And we're going to see Derek.
- 14:12I, I don't think he's washed. I don't think that he is greatly
- 14:14diminished. Yeah, he's a 31 year old running
- 14:16back. And that maybe there's a little
- 14:18trend and falling off that tire, but I think Derek Henry, he's
- 14:21going to be fine. I don't see a huge concern.
- 14:23There in their losses, he's rushed for 50 yards, 42 yards,
- 14:2633, and he put up $1.22 against the Rams.
- 14:31I don't know. Something seems off, something
- 14:34get Lamar. Get Lamar out there.
- 14:35Maybe that'll help, right? Maybe that'll help.
- 14:37So do you have a lean on this one at this point?
- 14:39I think until we know what Lamar looks like, Lean Miami.
- 14:44Oh, you do. I do lean Miami getting north of
- 14:46that touchdown. Is this their buy?
- 14:49Is Miami going have their buy after this week?
- 14:52Because this could be it for McDaniel, if this is.
- 14:55No, not till week 12. So it's.
- 14:56So it's a little ways off yet, OK.
- 14:58Because they get their mini buy this week with a Thursday night
- 15:00game. They get Buffalo at home after
- 15:02that and another home game. 3 consecutive home games for Miami
- 15:05as they get the commanders. So that team look completely
- 15:09different. Atlanta that that's squad like I
- 15:12don't get it I I don't either you watch them I.
- 15:15Understand I wouldn't have been been knocked if I would have
- 15:17been alive and survivor. I was all in on the Falcons that
- 15:20would have got you and that was just and that was embarrassing.
- 15:22You brought up Buffalo a second ago.
- 15:24How important is this game? I mean, if if a head to I think
- 15:33that the Bills will will find their way back, you know, at
- 15:36least into the final four teams in the AFC.
- 15:41I think that we're on a collision course to see these
- 15:43two teams at some point. And last year it was in Buffalo.
- 15:49Didn't matter. Chiefs went there.
- 15:51And what was that last year, two years ago, last year?
- 15:53How important is this game for the Bills?
- 15:54More important for the Bills or for the Chiefs?
- 15:57Oh, absolutely. The Bills, I, I think any kind
- 15:59of advantage you can have and if it turns out to be a home game
- 16:02division around an AFC championship regardless is so
- 16:05important for them because the Chiefs, they've proven it,
- 16:08They've done it, they've done it on the road, they've done it at
- 16:09home. It's not as important for
- 16:11Buffalo. Just any kind of slight
- 16:13advantage I think is huge for them.
- 16:15And he looked through Buffalo, all right.
- 16:16They had the ridiculous comeback on Sunday night to kick off the
- 16:19season. Yeah.
- 16:20And it's unlike anything that we've really seen before that
- 16:23kind of come back in the fourth quarter.
- 16:25But then you look through the rest of it and there's just not
- 16:28a whole lot there. They meet The Jets, the
- 16:30Dolphins, the Saints and the Panthers.
- 16:33Not exactly. Who's who?
- 16:35There's no playoff team there running by again after the
- 16:37Ravens, The Jets, Jets. Dolphins.
- 16:39Dolphins. Saints.
- 16:41Panthers. That's brutal.
- 16:43That's brutal. There's not a whole lot.
- 16:45You have losses to the Patriots at home, you know, at Atlanta,
- 16:49you know. I I.
- 16:52I'm not sold still on this Buffalo team.
- 16:55When does their schedule get tough?
- 16:58There's a lot, there's a lot of toss up type of games though.
- 17:01I mean at Miami, we'll see tonight with Miami.
- 17:04Is there anything left in the tank for them because we saw
- 17:07last week. We'll see if they can do
- 17:10something. Tampa, it's not going to be
- 17:11easy. Tampa's.
- 17:13Tampa's good. Yeah, Tampa's a good team.
- 17:15You go to Houston, that'll be tough against that defense.
- 17:18Good luck. You go to Pittsburgh, it's a
- 17:20road game. I don't think Pittsburgh's good.
- 17:22No, I don't either. Cincinnati in December, OH.
- 17:25Man, that and he might. Be he might be back, Joe Burrow
- 17:28could be out there. You have to go to New England.
- 17:31Now can't wait for that the. Division could be on the line,
- 17:33or at least an important one. You go to Cleveland, speak
- 17:35another great defense. You go to Cleveland, Might be
- 17:38snow, could be ugly. Good luck in that one.
- 17:42You get the Eagles at home, tough.
- 17:44And you wrap up at home against The Jets, not tough.
- 17:46So Week 18. Trent, this is this is this is a
- 17:50big game for Buffalo this week, Texans and the Broncos.
- 17:54What gives this week? Denver's offense.
- 17:57Denver's defense. Texas defense every bit as good.
- 18:02I think we're going to see Patrick Certain's injury show
- 18:06up. I think so too.
- 18:08Those young receivers, that's. All that's all we've got because
- 18:11Nicole Collins is out. Right.
- 18:13It's all questionable, I think, Yeah.
- 18:14Son of a gun. He and he's out there, obviously
- 18:17a difference maker. Who would you rather have,
- 18:20Stroud or Nicks? Stroud, year one.
- 18:24Stroud or Nicks right now? Push.
- 18:27And give the slight advantage to Stroud and if he had Sean
- 18:31Payton, it'd be a big advantage. But that's not the conversation
- 18:34without Sir Tan. I wonder about this defense at
- 18:37that level. That's fair.
- 18:39He shuts down the side of the field, as you know incredibly
- 18:41well. I like Houston in this.
- 18:44I do too. I do.
- 18:45Too, You're nervous about your. Squad, absolutely, and I think
- 18:47Denver's playing pretty well right now, but for that very
- 18:50reason, because they just don't throw the ball at Sir Tan, they
- 18:52throw the ball at Riley Moss, and Riley Moss has had a nice
- 18:55year. But the guy that I don't even
- 18:57know the guy's name, he apparently played in Missouri.
- 19:00Abrams Drain. Sounds made-up.
- 19:02It doesn't it and he's been there.
- 19:05I guess he played last year. I don't remember him, but I
- 19:09think that I I think the 300 state receivers, Noel Higgins
- 19:14and Hutchinson are going to do some damage against this outfit
- 19:17unless they can get pressure and Denver can get pressure.
- 19:22If they can get the Stroud then this is kind of one of those
- 19:25toss up games, but because they're going up a defense every
- 19:28bit as good as theirs, man this is tricky.
- 19:30I think the Texans have found something, too, with Woody
- 19:32Marks. I like him.
- 19:34Do you? Yeah, I think he's fine.
- 19:35Good out of the backfield. He's fine between the tackles.
- 19:37He's he's pretty good. And that's better than certainly
- 19:40what they've had. So it's week nine of the NFL.
- 19:42It's also week 10 of college. It's unbelievable, which is very
- 19:45sad. We will be November.
- 19:46Saturday will be November. And I want to take you back to
- 19:50Tuesday because Tuesday with my daily Hawkeye podcast, Locked on
- 19:55Hawkeyes. You can catch it each and every
- 19:56day as I talk Hawkeyes. Something thing came completely
- 20:01out of left field for me yesterday, and it was a comment
- 20:05from the Iowa coordinator press conferences on Tuesday, so I'm
- 20:09going to have you listen in. Which coordinator you tell me in
- 20:12advance. Yes to Phil Parker, as he was
- 20:15basically kind of previewing Oregon.
- 20:18Just take a listen and see what got the Duck fans all fired up.
- 20:22Yeah, I mean, obviously they, they, they can execute.
- 20:25They have some, you know, you start looking at their
- 20:27personnel, they got probably about 3 or 4 backs.
- 20:29They're really good backs and highly touted backs.
- 20:32So the receivers are, you know, a couple of young freshmen in
- 20:35there playing that. Then they can run.
- 20:37They're fast. So you worry about that.
- 20:40And the two tight ends are dynamic and the big offensive
- 20:42line. So they, they have the whole
- 20:44package. They it's well, well funded, I
- 20:49put it that way. But they're very talented.
- 20:52So you heard it there. Yeah, but so what's wrong with
- 20:55that? Well, you know, Mike Gundy was
- 20:56complaining about NIL before that game.
- 20:58So here comes Oregon. You're pissed off.
- 21:01Dan Lanning. You talked about his money.
- 21:03That's right. That's the second time, yeah.
- 21:05This was an innocuous statement. That is true.
- 21:10Oregon fans, would you bring up NIL?
- 21:12What are you blurring up? Nike money?
- 21:14Apparently. This is something I'm learning
- 21:15this week. They don't like that.
- 21:17They don't like you bringing up their money.
- 21:19Everybody spending as much money.
- 21:21It's an arms race for crying out loud.
- 21:24This fan base, I mean, I've dealt with some dumb fan bases,
- 21:27this fan base. Are they to the Big 10 what Utah
- 21:31is to the Big 12 when it comes to the hatred amongst fan base,
- 21:35the newcomers that have that have elbowed their way into the
- 21:37conference? Not no, no, not even close.
- 21:39Because Utah hates Utah. Yeah, Utah is its own.
- 21:42Stress. I mean, I don't, I don't go down
- 21:44those rabbit holes, but everything I see Utah is just a
- 21:48fan base in and of. Itself, a lot of comments.
- 21:51Who's Phil Parker? Who's he Parker?
- 21:53Oh yeah, they're they're coming. All right.
- 21:55This has fired up. I'm guessing Lanning knows who
- 21:58Phil Parker is. He better, right?
- 22:00He better. I went from, I told you this
- 22:02summer there, there was just a feeling I had about this game
- 22:06and now what we've seen the last.
- 22:08We've had a different feeling about about this game now than I
- 22:11did a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely, this is a winnable.
- 22:15Game. Yes, it is.
- 22:16I was getting better, Trent. And if they're concerned about
- 22:19that, I also do wonder, Justin Jacobs, last Iowa a couple years
- 22:25ago there, why do you leave as a defensive starter Iowa to go to
- 22:28Oregon money. That's it.
- 22:31No, that's it. Could it be maybe a little shot
- 22:34there? Who knows, But it's the truth.
- 22:36He didn't say anything wrong. No, he didn't say.
- 22:38And here's the thing that's going to drive me absolutely
- 22:40crazy. Oregon wins the game.
- 22:42Oregon beats Iowa next Saturday. They win the game.
- 22:45This is going to be used. This is going to be fodder.
- 22:47This is by landing, do you think?
- 22:49Probably. I mean, he was he was doing it
- 22:51in the locker room after the game against Oklahoma State.
- 22:53Yeah, but that was the. Head coach, That was Gundy.
- 22:56He likes motivation, he likes to use those things.
- 22:59But here's the thing, guess what?
- 23:01If I will win this game, we won't worry.
- 23:02Here a peep about it. It goes back to 2008.
- 23:06Iowa beats Penn State at Kinnock Stadium in 2009.
- 23:09Game days there, the night game, the block pump by Adrian
- 23:11Claiborne. Leading up to that game, I can't
- 23:13remember revenge being used more on radio airwaves, on TV shows,
- 23:18on everything. It was all revenge, revenge,
- 23:19revenge. Guess what?
- 23:20After Iowa whipped their ass 2110, did anybody talk about
- 23:23revenge afterwards? No, the hindsight stuff.
- 23:26It's stupid. This is a stupid narrative and
- 23:28Oregon fans, I'm learning, is a stupid fan base.
- 23:30But you know what? It moves our needle.
- 23:34We're grateful for fan bases with passion before we go to
- 23:37break. Lee Sterling coming up, have you
- 23:39seen the Iowa State, Arizona State line?
- 23:41It's just completely gone in Iowa State's favorite.
- 23:44This thing opened 4 1/2. It's up to 8 now.
- 23:46Well, it's. Got to be Sims like he's.
- 23:49He's that bad. He's that bad.
- 23:51The running back, they got one guy on offense, brown #3 the
- 23:54running back is really good. He's a tiny little dude, but
- 23:57he's really good. But if you can shut him down,
- 24:01what else? Simpson going to beat you?
- 24:02No. They don't have anybody else to
- 24:04go. To they don't, they don't, and
- 24:06if they did, I'm not sure you could get them the ball. 8 1/2
- 24:10at DraftKings, 8 at circa 7 1/2 in other spots.
- 24:13But this thing was 4 1/2 when it opened.
- 24:15And yet the betting splits from Wager Talk Tickets 54%, Arizona
- 24:20State 59% of money. I don't get it.
- 24:22Feels like there is a system play out there from somebody
- 24:25with a lot more money than probably anybody.
- 24:27Listening to us, I'm not, I'm not buying into his system.
- 24:30We'll buy into Lee Sterling's system at Lee Sterling.
- 24:32He'll join us from Paramount Sports.
- 24:35Before we do that though, how about let's go to break head to
- 24:38kxno.com right now. The keyword this hour is cash.
- 24:41Type that in the pop up boxcash@kxno.com.
- 24:45Cash, KX, no.com, Lee Sterling, Paramount Sports.
- 24:49Next Dave syndicate on the Packers.
- 24:51Still to come this hour, Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports
- 24:54Radio Network. I'm Miller Condon.
- 24:58Welcome back Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 25:01Still to come this hour, Dave sinicanzonecoverage.com KFAN up
- 25:05in the Twin Cities recovers the Green Bay Packers Packer
- 25:08preview.com Let's get the Lee Sterling paramountsports.com is
- 25:14normal spot each and every Thursday at this time.
- 25:17Lee Trenton Ken good to speak with you.
- 25:18How are you? I'm good, I'm good.
- 25:21We had a cold front here today in Miami.
- 25:23Went down from 82 down to 70. Turn the heat up.
- 25:31We're in the 40s. Absolutely.
- 25:32Sweatshirts. We put on the warm clothes.
- 25:35Well, let's get right into this league. 5 pack games coming up
- 25:37this week. Trent, why don't you start us
- 25:39off or I will. In that case, let's go here.
- 25:43Big 10, Big 12, big game, Utah and Cincinnati.
- 25:47Utah's about a nine point favorite.
- 25:51How do you see this one, Lee? So we don't know exactly yet who
- 25:56is going to play quarterback for Utah.
- 25:58Obviously their coaching staff keeps it pretty.
- 26:02They manipulate the depth chart. Let's just let's just put that
- 26:04out there. They are not following the
- 26:06rules. Right.
- 26:08Well, put it this way, if they were in the NFL.
- 26:12They. Would be in the million yeah
- 26:14draft picks millions of dollars so I just think that with seven
- 26:18straight wins since their week one loss in Nebraska Cincinnati
- 26:23has made a major statement in Big 12 race here and they're
- 26:27going to have to do it against a really good Utah team problem
- 26:30here is their defense their offense is very good 3 transfer
- 26:34receivers getting separation their scoring points but the
- 26:38defense only one interception and six fumble recoveries in
- 26:42eight games here backup quarterback true freshman for
- 26:46Utah if he has to play he might be fine also in relief I'm going
- 26:51to take Utah 3420 over since he. Going with Utah now, if you
- 26:56would have said this summer I'm going to give you Penn State and
- 26:59three touchdowns against Ohio State, everybody would be
- 27:02emptying their bank accounts to do it.
- 27:04Now. It's hard to find anybody that
- 27:06even wants to take those 20 1/2 points.
- 27:08Will you leave Sterling with the knits?
- 27:11You know what, I am going to be tempted to do it and here is why
- 27:17I think that still, you know, you got a quarterback that was
- 27:22passed over twice, wanted to play at Ohio State, so maybe
- 27:27he's got a little bit chip on his shoulder.
- 27:29Two weeks to prepare could certainly help out here.
- 27:34And then on top of that, Jim Knowles, the Penn State
- 27:37defensive coordinator, he knows their personnel, who's their
- 27:40defensive coordinator last year. He knows all like 90% of these
- 27:44guys are strengths and weaknesses.
- 27:46He's even going to be helping out the offense to go against
- 27:50the defense here. No hard feelings, but that's the
- 27:53way it is in love in football. I think also K Tron Allen, the
- 27:58foot running game has been good enough here to to have some
- 28:01balance here and they can run some.
- 28:03They're going to hang in it here.
- 28:04I like Ohio State to win the game 30 to 20, but I'm taking
- 28:08Penn State plus all those gorgeous points.
- 28:10Let's head W to Nebraska Memorial Stadium, the Huskers
- 28:13getting 6 1/2 as Lincoln Riley brings his Trojans E.
- 28:18That normally does not go well. USC favoured 6 1/2.
- 28:22Not well. Horrific.
- 28:24One in eight, straight up and against the spread and games
- 28:27played in Central and Eastern Time zones here.
- 28:30Bringing the Cornhuskers as an underdog is completely different
- 28:36than playing them as a favorite. Do I think they're super
- 28:40talented? No Would I have given Matt Rule
- 28:43a huge raise and an extension? Probably not.
- 28:47Don't think he's done a whole lot.
- 28:49But at home, USC traveling here, USC has a propensity to turn the
- 28:54ball over here, I think they keep it close.
- 28:57I have USC winning the game here at 3430 Nebraska cover.
- 29:00Let's come back to the state of Iowa where the Cyclones up to in
- 29:04some spots an 8 1/2 point favorite against Arizona State.
- 29:08Lot of steam the injuries, Arizona State obviously piling
- 29:11up. No Levitt this week and probably
- 29:13no Tyson. What do you see with the
- 29:15Cyclones and Sun Devils? Yeah, you know, it's, it's some
- 29:19disappointment of late. Obviously, they're five and oh,
- 29:21now they're five and three here. But Arizona State without their
- 29:25quarterback, Sam Levitt, Jeff Simms is a huge downgrade.
- 29:29This guy's transferred all over the United States here.
- 29:33Physical specimen, great athlete, just can't make the big
- 29:38throw when he needs to and is a turnover machine if you leave
- 29:42him out there long enough. Also, Jordan Tyson, their star
- 29:46wide receiver, probably not going to be a go on top of that
- 29:50here. Sometimes you got to lay it if
- 29:51you want to play it. Iowa State, 3120.
- 29:54Let's go to the NFL. Huge game in the AFC.
- 29:57It's the Chiefs. They go on the road, take on the
- 29:59Bills. Bills got well last week, but
- 30:01here comes Kansas City. The Chiefs are favoured about
- 30:03two points. And you can't just base your
- 30:07decision on what happened, you know, so many years ago and over
- 30:11a period of time, we know that Buffalo has gotten the best of
- 30:14Kansas City during the regular season.
- 30:16But right now, Kansas City is playing the best football of
- 30:19anyone. Patrick Mahomes is finding
- 30:21receivers when he drops back. And in the instances he needs to
- 30:25buy time, guys are wide open. He finally has all his top
- 30:30receivers back from injuries, suspension.
- 30:33I mean, Rice looks better than ever.
- 30:36You know, the offensive lines coming together, no real
- 30:39injuries on defense. On the other side, Buffalo's
- 30:41hoping they get linebacker Matt Milano back, hoping to get
- 30:46defensive tackle Daquan Jones back from that calf injury.
- 30:50Even with those two guys, the defense isn't very good.
- 30:53Their corners can't cover anyone.
- 30:55And then on offense, their tight ends not producing like they
- 31:00thought. They thought they'd go to that
- 31:0212 formation, 1 running back, two tight ends that would work.
- 31:05The receivers getting no separation here.
- 31:08Josh Allen's great, but he's going to have to do it alone
- 31:10here again. I'm in Kansas City, they come
- 31:13out on top 3730. Game of the Week certainly has
- 31:16Ken Miller's attention in our audience as well as the Texans
- 31:19play host to Ken's Broncos. People want to get involved with
- 31:23your Game of the Week, Lee Sterling.

- 31:42has the right ammunition to get it done.

- 32:48next week. OK, thanks.
- 32:51Guys, thank you Lee Sterling paramountsports.com.
- 32:53We'll take a time out Dave syndicate on the Packers and the
- 32:57Panthers, Miller and Condon on Des Moines sports station one O
- 33:006.3 KXO hi Miller and Condon. Welcome back Iowa Sports Radio
- 33:05network. Let's get right to our next
- 33:07guest, Dave siddikanzonecoverage.com.
- 33:09He hosts Packer preview on Sunday mornings on the flagship,
- 33:13the Vikings. KFAN Dave's on the air at 7:00
- 33:16or anytime on the iheart app as we get the Carolina Panthers and
- 33:21the Green Bay Packers at noon. FOX has that one.
- 33:24Dave Trenton, Ken, thank you as always for coming on.
- 33:28You know what? Sunday night did it for me and
- 33:30I've been on. I've won one of those fence
- 33:32sitters. Yeah, I think they're good, but
- 33:33I'm just not 100% sure. That second-half really changed
- 33:37my opinion in a positive way. Love was unbelievable.
- 33:40He was flawless. It's not.
- 33:42It's not like we're they're facing a Steel Curtain defense
- 33:45from back in the day. But man, you put up those
- 33:48numbers in your back. That gets my attention.
- 33:50That was a heck of a performance.
- 33:52Second-half by Jordan Love. Yeah, it was obviously wouldn't
- 33:56feel really good at halftime about what we had seen, a couple
- 33:58of this field goals, the best opportunities, but a defense
- 34:02that at least was forcing Pittsburgh into some field goals
- 34:04to keep the team in the game. Yeah.
- 34:06I mean, I think we've been waiting all season to see this
- 34:09team on the road facing adversity, come up and show some
- 34:12championship chops. And yeah, Love led the way.
- 34:15The defense was good. They did what they had to do.
- 34:18And I think it didn't open up some people's eyes.
- 34:20And obviously, they have to beware of the dreaded trap game
- 34:24here with the Eagles looming the following Monday night.
- 34:27But yeah, I think they checked a lot of boxes with what they did
- 34:30in the second-half on Sunday night.
- 34:33Aaron Rodgers on the other side. Where's the fan base on Aaron
- 34:36Rodgers? I think we all have an opinion
- 34:39one way or the other about him, both as a quarter pack and as a
- 34:42person. Those are two different things.
- 34:43But where's the Packer fan base and just seeing the old guy out
- 34:47there chocking it around on Sunday night?
- 34:50Yeah, I mean, I don't speak for everybody, obviously, but my
- 34:53sense is that, you know, Jordan loves progression and everything
- 34:57about what he's done so far through these 2 1/2 years as a
- 35:01starter, as I think allowed pretty much the whole fan base
- 35:04to kind of exhale and move on. I, you know, my lead headline
- 35:08was the torch has been passed on on Monday morning when I wrote
- 35:11my piece because it kind of felt that way, I think for a lot of
- 35:13the fan base. Yeah, Rodgers still is a
- 35:15talented player. He'll always, always be beloved
- 35:19by to Packer fans by what he did on the field and the
- 35:22accomplishments and, and really now how he's handling where he
- 35:26is in his life. And, you know, staying last
- 35:28week, he he wants to retire as a Packer.
- 35:30And he saw the hugs about the backstage guys on Sunday night.
- 35:34You know what he means to the people of that organization.
- 35:37I think ultimately that speaks the most clearly about who he is
- 35:42in the Packer family. So I think the fan base has
- 35:45moved on. They're excited about what love
- 35:47of this young team could do over the next of years, and no hard
- 35:52feelings as far as Rogers go. I bet there's a lot of hard
- 35:54feelings amongst NFLGMS that go back to whoever they took in the
- 35:58third round of Tucker Crafts draft year.
- 36:01I can't get over watching this guy seemingly get better every
- 36:04week and we've been talking about him for a lot of weeks
- 36:06now. Love the fact that they pointed
- 36:08out just to South Dakota, roots in the small town that he's
- 36:11from, etcetera. He doesn't have to get a new
- 36:14contract. I think he's still got a year or
- 36:16two left. Dave, maybe one on that rookie
- 36:19deal, but at some point don't they have to get busy on Tucker
- 36:22Craft and maybe pay him what he's worth or is that one they
- 36:25just they'll wait until they have to?
- 36:28No, I do think they'll be proactive on this one.
- 36:30I think he is eligible for a new deal after this season and I'd
- 36:33be shocked if he's in training camp next summer without a new
- 36:37deal. Regardless of all the rest of
- 36:39this, this deal goes. He's beloved in that locker
- 36:41room. There's so many viral clips of
- 36:44him speaking to the team and just one of those guys that you
- 36:46have to root for. I mean, it's just exactly what
- 36:49you want in a football player. And for Packer fans, you know,
- 36:52having a small town guy who came to Green Bay and thought, man,
- 36:56I've never been in a city this big.
- 36:57I mean, this place is huge. You know, he fits right in.
- 37:01And what you see how the field is his lights out.
- 37:04I mean, that was a draft they took Luke Musgrave around
- 37:06earlier and Kraft was kind of an afterthought and surely he's the
- 37:10jewel of that draft and getting better and better.
- 37:13The arrow is pointing sky high and so fun to watch that kid
- 37:16play. Christian Watson ACL, we know
- 37:20the deep threat that he can be. I mean, does it feel like
- 37:23there's another level of the passing game, his importance for
- 37:25this offense and just having a the speed that he brings, but
- 37:29also the size that he brings. He they have a bunch of good
- 37:31receiver, solid guys, but feels like Watson can be a difference
- 37:35maker. Can he be a difference maker
- 37:36though this year coming off that ACL?
- 37:39I think he was Sunday night Trent.
- 37:41I mean it's no coincidence Tucker Crap went off the week
- 37:44that Christian Watson came back. I mean his his speed draws
- 37:48attention from safeties and allows things to happen
- 37:50underneath. It opens things up for the
- 37:52middle of the field. Tucker Crap was the beneficiary
- 37:55on his first touchdown as he was moving over to the right side.
- 37:59It was Watson that delivered the block that sprung him.
- 38:02It's such an underrated part of his game because you think of
- 38:04him as a speed guy, but the size to go with it is just makes him
- 38:08just an all around player. He makes the offense tick.
- 38:12I do think there's another level.
- 38:13It's his first game back 9 or 10 months removed from an ACL.
- 38:17So we don't have prime Christian Watson yet.
- 38:19But man, I mean 4 catches, 85 yards, he's going deep.
- 38:24He just he makes his defense complete.
- 38:27And it was so gut fishing when he went down late last season
- 38:32because he's been injury prone. But if he can ever stay on the
- 38:35field with Golden and Craft and Dobbs and Reed coming back, this
- 38:40offense I think has a couple levels that could still get.
- 38:43To I'm with you, is this a week maybe to let Josh Jacobs rest
- 38:47and get that calf back to close to 100% in advance of the Eagles
- 38:51game? Sounds like he's maybe
- 38:52questionable at this point. Do you think he plays Josh
- 38:55Jacobs? From what I've heard, I do think
- 38:58he'll play, but I think it'll be much more of a 5050 split.
- 39:01I mean, the manual Wilson was the running back in the third
- 39:04quarter that was out there when this offense really quick.
- 39:07You could tell Jacobs is not anywhere near 100% and I'd be
- 39:10all for sitting him for a week knowing what's up ahead.
- 39:14Philly at home at the Giants and then three straight division
- 39:17games. I try to get that cap right, but
- 39:19I don't have, I've not heard anything to say he's going to
- 39:21miss this game. I won't know more about his
- 39:24conditions, obviously, today and tomorrow his practice reports
- 39:27are shared, but I'd be all for 5050 timeshare fantasy teams be
- 39:33damned. At this point.
- 39:35Let's make sure Jacobs is healthy for the stress run.
