- 0:46I'll write. The first story that I have for
- 0:48you guys today comes from a piece by Rachel Carton, who is a
- 0:51social media consultant and also the author of the Link in Bio
- 0:55newsletter. In her newsletter and a recent
- 0:57post on LinkedIn, Rachel pointed to a new trend among branded
- 1:01content on social media that I wanted to talk about.
- 1:05She noted that there seems to be a shift toward quote cinematic
- 1:08short form content. She mentions reformation as an
- 1:11example. Earlier this week, the brand
- 1:13released a short film style content on the likes of
- 1:17Instagram and Tiktok. The film is called Followed and
- 1:20starring Nora Smith, and it pretty much pokes fun at her
- 1:23entire public persona. And the brand also premiered the
- 1:27short film in theaters with creators and attendance in both
- 1:31New York and LA. So they really made this a
- 1:33thing. Understandably, the ad was well
- 1:35received, with most of the top comments on Tiktok being very
- 1:38favorable to the brand. While Reformation is the most
- 1:41recent brand to post this type of content, Rachel Carton notes
- 1:45other examples she writes. Quote Earlier this year,
- 1:47fragrance brand Fern rolled out Pink Sky at night across their
- 1:51social channels. A short film featuring Billy Nye
- 1:54Grant shared The Perfect Summer Getaway, a movie that they
- 1:57released in scenes across platforms.
- 2:00Burberry rolled out a series of seven films inspired by British
- 2:03ROM coms. Vera Bradley partnered with
- 2:05actor Devin Sawa for a short film titled The Most Perfect
- 2:09Couple. Rachel's main theory as to why
- 2:12this is becoming such a trend on social media is because it
- 2:16signifies A pendulum swing away from the reliance on TikTok
- 2:20trends and iPhone camera shot content that has driven
- 2:23marketing online for brands for, you know, the past several
- 2:26years. Quote brands felt like they had
- 2:28to post iPhone videos to be social first.
- 2:30They relied on quick turn TikTok trends to sell their story.
- 2:34We're starting to see the pendulum swing back an
- 2:36interruption in the iPhone pattern.
- 2:39The goal of social is to breakthrough and an NEC of same
- 2:42story stands out. Ever gets engagement, commitment
- 2:46to the bit breaks through the Wes Anderson and narrator voice
- 2:49trends have likely helped usher in this new cinematic era.
- 2:52Importantly for a younger consumer, this might be the
- 2:55first time they're seeing social marketing that's original and
- 2:58considered. I also think this signals a
- 3:00difference between Gen. Z and millennials as like the
- 3:03prominent generation that is creating culture online.
- 3:07I say this all the time and consulting.
- 3:09But unlike millennials who like we loved when a brand was like
- 3:13our best friend, like we are the target demo for those like
- 3:17social first brands that were like, hey, babe and you know,
- 3:21like, hey bestie, hey diva, hey girl, whatever.
- 3:24Gen. Z doesn't like that.
- 3:25It feels so forced. They're under no impression that
- 3:28a brand is their friend. And therefore I think seeing
- 3:32this kind of move away from like, very quote UN quote, like,
- 3:35I'm going to say it's like fake authentic, right?
- 3:37It's like, it's like attempted relatability from like a
- 3:39corporation to just leaning into the fact that, yeah, like some
- 3:44of these brands have ginormous marketing budgets.
- 3:47And why don't we just lean into that and spend the money and
- 3:50create something really cool and original with a story behind it?
- 3:54I understand why it's hitting OK.
- 3:56The next three that I have for you guys, I need to talk about
- 3:59how Australian beauty creator Rowie Singh has been Chapel
- 4:04Rone's makeup artist lately. So this is a bit of a news
- 4:07story, but it has gotten a little bit of traction in the
- 4:10Australian influencer community. And I thought it was really cool
- 4:13because I followed Rowie for literally years.
- 4:16But yes, Rowie has been quite popular in the beauty community,
- 4:19especially in Australia for a while now.
- 4:21She became known for her maximalist and vibrant makeup
- 4:24looks and her fashion. She has over 460,000 followers
- 4:28on Instagram and almost 300,000 followers on TikTok at the time
- 4:31of recording. She initially went viral for the
- 4:34way that she incorporated her culture into her makeup looks.
- 4:37As Danny Maher reported for Harper's Bazaar last year quote,
- 4:41those hundreds of looks and more with which she experimented
- 4:45found their way onto her Instagram, and eventually one of
- 4:47her posts went viral for a very specific reason.
- 4:50She had incorporated customary Indian bindis in a non
- 4:53traditional way. Commenters praised her creative
- 4:56blending of modern makeup and heritage, and the post became a
- 4:59turning point for her, not only growing her following
- 5:02exponentially, but inspiring her to tap into and connect with her
- 5:05culture. So yesterday, Rowie posted an
- 5:07Instagram of Chapel Roan revealing that she had done her
- 5:11makeup for night 2 in New York City on the Visions of Damsels
- 5:15and Other Dangerous Things tour, which is a series of pop up
- 5:18shows. Chapel has been performing at
- 5:20festivals across Europe and now in cities across the US.
- 5:23On TikTok, she posted a video of Chapel writing your favorite
- 5:26artist, favorite makeup artist, which is obviously, you know, a
- 5:29reference to Chapel's billing herself as I'm your favorite
- 5:32artist, favorite artist. The top comment on Rowie's
- 5:35TikTok is I feel incredibly parasocial right now.
- 5:38Congrats to my close friend Rowie.
- 5:39That's how I feel. It's so cool.
- 5:43Like it's really cool to see somebody that you have followed
- 5:46for this many years and just get to live out such a huge
- 5:51accomplishment, a huge dream like this.
- 5:53She's always maintained such creativity, such a strong sense
- 5:57of herself in her content and in her career, like this entire
- 6:01time. And it's just so cool.
- 6:02Like seeing an Australian influencer, a woman of color,
- 6:05like, slang so hard for possibly you could argue one of the
- 6:09biggest stars at the moment. Like one of the biggest pop
- 6:12stars at the moment. It's so cool.
- 6:15I'm so parasocial right now too. OK.
- 6:17And the last story that I have for you guys is there are
- 6:19romance rumors swirling about Madeline Klein.
- 6:23So Madeline Klein has sparked romance rumors with Prince
- 6:26Constantine Alexius of Greece and Denmark after the two were
- 6:30spotted together. OK, pop off.
- 6:32She gets a Prince. It seems that these rumors have
- 6:35come from a Dumois exclusive where the account posted blurry
- 6:38pictures of the two getting quite close at a bar in New York
- 6:41City. Take everything with a grain of
- 6:42salt when it comes to Dumois, but if it's an exclusive, I
- 6:46think that usually means it's planted by the PR team.
- 6:49Adding fuel to the fire, Prince Constantine Alexios also seemed
- 6:53to post a picture on his Instagram Stories of a woman who
- 6:56looked like Madeleine. These pictures were enough for
- 6:58users to take the alleged romance and run with it.
- 7:01And although it should be noted that neither Madeleine nor this
- 7:04Prince have made a formal statement about the rumors, but
- 7:08many social media users and fans of Madeleine are very excited
- 7:11for her regardless. Especially because people have
- 7:13become quite parasocial about her and her relationships over
- 7:16the years. For context, we know she dated
- 7:19her Outer Banks Co star Chase Stokes, and then she did go on
- 7:23to be romantically linked with Pete Davidson and Zac BIA.
- 7:26Everyone has been linked to Zac BIA, so honestly I don't really
- 7:28count that, but not everyone has been linked to a Prince.
- 7:31So I hope this is not APR relationship because this would
- 7:35be such a vibe. All right, guys, well, that's it
- 7:36for mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 7:39I love you guys. Please remember to rate, review
- 7:41and subscribe Spotify star rate US and there will be a deep dive
- 7:44tomorrow. I have to get editing.
- 7:46Oh my God, there will be a deep dive tomorrow.
- 7:50I can't guarantee what time it's going to go up at, but it's
- 7:53coming. OK, bye.
