- 0:06SPEAKER_01: Hi everyone and welcome back to So We Were Saying.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: We're three best friends of over 20 years catching up on life and having the conversations we'd be having around the table anyway.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Before we get into today's topic, what have we all been up to?
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Anything exciting, ridiculous?
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Are we just happy that we made it here tonight?
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Well, we had a very eventful weekend because we had a really fun party on Saturday.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Well, Jamie and I.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: And I drank more beer than I ever have, which I'm not a huge beer person.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Same, same.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: It was all good.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: It was very good.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Recommend definitely go back.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: And then on Sunday, I went to the Giants game and they won.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: And now we're in first place.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: So go G-Men.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Jane, do you have anything?
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: So mine is not something that I did this weekend.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Mine is this latest obsession that I have.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: So I don't know if anybody listening is a chump.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Melissa and I are.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: And we are obsessed with Jeff Lewis and obviously his podcast, but his show just came out.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: So it's called Still Flipping Out.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: So if you remember, like back in the day, he had a show called Flipping Out where it was like Kim showing his job where he makes over people's houses and he is just a complete mess.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: He flies off the handle so easily.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: So now he has a new show, and I've watched it three times already because I am that obsessed with it.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: So that was something I did over the week and I watched it for the third time.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Never seen him.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: It is amazing.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: My only complaint, because you know how much I love him.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: I love everybody that casts all of it.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: I really love the old one better, only because of the actual houses.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: I loved seeing how he would transform the houses versus the relationships that we already hear on the show.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: See, and I feel differently.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't love the house makeover.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: I did then, but I feel like there are so many of them now that like I'm over a house makeover.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Like I don't want to watch it anymore.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: So I thought that's what it was gonna be all about.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: But the fact that like you actually see the behind the scenes of his radio show, I actually love that.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: But as we were saying, Lys and I were side texting about it when we were watching it the first time, not the third, but the first time I was watching it, we were texting about it, and I did feel like some of the people were putting it on a little bit.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: So like that was the only thing that kind of like stirred me away from it.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: But otherwise, I am fully hawked.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Well, Jax, what about you?
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: So I wasn't at the party because I was in Connecticut at Parents' Weekend for my middle daughter Amber.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I will give you a little backstory on my Amber.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: She is a military child and has moved when she was younger.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: She went to three different elementary schools.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: She was always a good student and loved school, but she struggled in reading.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: We moved to New Jersey and she was in fifth grade.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: And the first month, we had a meeting with her teachers and they recommended an eye therapist, which an eye therapist is somebody that can do tracking, but our insurance didn't cover it, but we paid for it.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: The minute we sat down with the doctor, he said that this child is dyslexic.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: From her two teachers, her reading specialist and her fifth grade teacher ran with it and got our district to pay for Wilson tutoring from fifth grade to eighth grade.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: They don't do that.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: It's just very rare that that's ever happened.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: So after being with Amber this weekend and seeing how well she's doing in college, it's so crazy that my little dyslexic child is in the big world doing big things with her photography and just putting herself out there when times are hard and struggle.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: But a lot of famous people were dyslexic.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Walt Disney was dyslexic, Jennifer Aniston was dyslexic.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of big people that were, and you just have to find in life what works for you.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And then a little side note is her fifth grade teacher and the rating specialist came to her graduation.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: So then back to the weekend, my little eight-year-old got to sleep in the dorm, and she already told me that she's going to that school.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: So she's committed.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: And the last thing is didn't happen this weekend.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: It'll happen tomorrow.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: My son will be 21 years old, which is so hard to believe that I have a 21-year-old.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: But fun fact about him is that when he was one year old, we took him to Hooters.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: And as we were at Hooters, we were like, Ryan, you don't understand this right now, but we'll be taking you out for your 21st birthday.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: And like, here it is, which is insane.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Totally insane.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: It blows my mind.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: That's exciting though.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: You sound like you had a good weekend.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Amber was funny.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: So the other day I get a missed call.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: I woke up to a missed call from her, and obviously I was sleeping.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: I think it was like nine o'clock or something, and I go to bed so early.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: But I woke up in a complete panic, like, oh my God, she called me, I missed it, and then I get a text message, and the first line says, Don't panic, I'm okay, I'm alive.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: I was like, thank God, I felt so bad.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: But no, I'm so happy that she's doing well and she's loving it.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Because I feel like sometimes, like when they're younger and you're struggling with all this stuff, you feel like there's no end in sight.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: And then to all the parents, you are doing a good job.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: But when you're in it, you feel like you're failing your child, even though you're trying your best to get the help that they need.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you just don't know the right avenues.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: And thank God for these two teachers, and I will always be grateful for them.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: So shout out, Mrs.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: McCloud and Miss Forcier.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: That's amazing, Jack.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: That's really nice.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: I think I went to that doctor too in Milton.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Galloway.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Galloway.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Well, Louis fine, I did it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, but yes.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's great.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: He is.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: He's very, very good.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And it's crazy that these kids like put goggles on and he can see how they're tracking, like what their eyes are doing just from putting the goggles on.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: And so because it's gotta be hard.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I'm not a parent, but it's gotta be hard being a parent, right?
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: You want to know everything, but like at the end of the day, like you don't, like you're only human, you can't specialize in everything.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: So when you can't be an expert at everything, it's gotta be, you know, really tough.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: And but I think it's crazy that she made it like we started out, she was in Virginia, then we were in California, and then Marlton, New Jersey is where they noticed it.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Like, I can't believe she just like threw everything.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that's just kind of my little backstory on my Amber girl.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Anyone else want to share anything?
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Or should we dive right into our main topic?
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, go ahead, girl.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: So today we're talking about something we've been doing for years without ever really discussing it, looking out for each other when we're out.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Because when we were younger, nobody went to the bathroom alone.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: One person stood up and suddenly we were all going.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Didn't matter if you actually needed the bathroom, you were part of the bathroom committee.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: And nobody was supposed to disappear.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: We always arrived together and we always checked on each other and we made sure everyone got home.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: There were always rules.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Like we always had rules when we went out.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: No matter we've traveled together, we've obviously gone out locally together, and we just always had rules.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: So we're calling this conversation, no one left behind.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: First of all, what were our actual rules when we went out?
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Because I feel like we had an entire system that like none of us ever wrote down, but like we all knew the rules.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: First and most important, I think there was always at least one of us who was sober and driving.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: And we all took turns appropriately.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: I feel like that's the most important.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I agree completely.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Like if Melish drove the one time and took us all home, then I would do it the next time.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Then Jackie that, right?
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Like we just kind of all passed that down, and we all, like Melissa said, we all took turns.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Make sure the person got home safe.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: But we do have a funny story about one time our friend Nikki was the sober driver.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: So were you in the back seat with Nikki?
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: So Nikki was the sober driver, Cherie was in the passenger seat, and Jamie and I were in the back.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: And we are obviously feeling great.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: And we're feeling great, but we're awake.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Like we're awake and we're talking and you know, we're having a nice time.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Trying to fall asleep.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Maybe so.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Anyway we are driving now 295, and you hear Mickey is going off the road, our sober driver, and it was because she was falling asleep.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Now, her job that night was just to get us home safe.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: So Mickey decides, I'm gonna put down the windows in her two-door car.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: And Jamie and I froze our butts off.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: And back in the day, some cars, I don't think it's a thing anymore, but like some cars have a thing where you can like open up a little like middle piece in the backseat and it gives you like an entrance to like to the trunk.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: And we found like old clothes back there.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: And we were like wrapping it around ourselves and we're like, Nick, you were our DD, which she was.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she wasn't.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: But equally as dangerous driving us home since she was falling asleep, unless you were gonna say something.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: What I wanted to say before was with that being said, all of us taking turns being sober, none of us were really out of control during that.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: None of us were ever, it wasn't like a thing where we didn't mind being the person.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: It wasn't that we were at like you would always have time no matter what.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Well, that's true.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: We got crazy.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: We did get, but we didn't know, but we didn't need the drinks to do that.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: The time in Philly.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Who was the mom of the group?
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: I know my answer for that, but who was the mom of the group?
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Who was keeping track of everybody, and who was the reason we needed someone keeping track of?
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: We don't have to answer that last one, but let's let's do who is the mom of the group.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: We can talk about that last one offline.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: So I feel like that would change because I definitely feel like I would be the mom.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: You were who I was going to say is that I think you were the mom of the group.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: But again, like it could change, like depending on where we were, the situation.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: But if I had to pick one person, the less I think it would be you.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but we take that.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think that's great.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: You're welcome.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: There were times that I probably was not the mom and I probably didn't follow all of our rules.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: But no, but I think overall you would take the lead on that.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Did we have a look or a signal that meant, please get me out of this conversation?
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: The big eyes.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: I was just I was really good to say that.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: The big eyes, like, get over your unhealthy.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: The eyes just like set it all.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Because we couldn't see what was happening behind us.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: So someone was like dancing with us, we would look to each other and be like, What do you think?
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: And we'd be like, Give me the phone.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's right.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Thinking back, what did a good friend do on a night out that made you really appreciate them?
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Even something small.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Staying with you when you went to the bathroom, getting you out of an awkward conversation.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: Like, what's something that like sticks out to you?
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: What sticks out to me is like when our D D drove us home and just made sure you got in the house.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, I love that.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: I even love when people still do that.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Yes, like make sure you get in the key and you're in the house safely and you return them.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: And same thing, like text when you get home.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Like the driver makes sure they text that they made it home safe.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: To know that we all had a great night and we're all safe.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Melissa.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: It's such an old person thing to say, but it's so true.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: But it is so true.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: But to your point, my girls even they appreciate it.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Because they'll be like, oh, well, so and so's mom or dad just drops up and goes.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: You're always waiting to make sure they get in the house out there.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Because I think, what if they are locked out and then they're just stranded?
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Like, I think of all these things that I'm like, I still wait for them.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: What if somebody was in the bushes?
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Wait, what?
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: I didn't think about that.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: That was my biggest fear.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Like, if I ever got dropped off, then like I would want that person to wait.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: And and they always did, but I'd be like, make sure you wait till I get in.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: Like I would still have to say just to like make sure.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, what if somebody is waiting in the bushes?
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: So, like, not to get dark, but I will for a minute.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: There was a lady in Marlton who came home one night.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, in King's Grant.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: In King's Grant, and someone was waiting for her.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: I don't know if they were in the bushes, but they were like it was a random thing and killed her.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: What?
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: This was years ago.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: But I think that stuck in my brain that that is something I've been paranoid ever.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: Even if I come home late, which I mean, let's be honest.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: I'm not coming home late now.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: But if I were, that's still something that like sticks in my head.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: And if I'm like by myself, that has completely just changed my mindset of like getting home late at night.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: It's very scary.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: How has our buddy system changed in our 40s?
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: Are we still going to the bathroom together, ladies?
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe not like the whole crew at once, but you're definitely still going with someone.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: I also feel like I'm tougher now.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: How?
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Drinking her tea.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: She's drinking a cup of tea and she brought a tea bag for each of us, by the way.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: So tell us how you're tougher now.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: But you feel like you just don't need that.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm a mom now.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: I have to be the tough one.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: So I don't know that I think like that.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: I feel like we don't need it because our hours of operation have changed.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Like our hours of like going out.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Well, like going out.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Like, I feel like it's earlier now.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: It's more like dinners and stuff like that, to where it's not like, you know, the witching hour where like you need somebody to escort you to the bathroom.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: I will say a very scary story.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: In my 40s now, I would have never done this when I was younger.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: I was down the shore.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: I definitely may have had one too many drinks.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: And I was talking with someone, and I said, Can you watch my drink?
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go to the bathroom.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: And it was someone I had just met that night.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: And I went to the bathroom, and at that point, I was like, I can't drink anymore.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Like I just was not, I didn't feel good anymore.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: And I walked out and I ended up never taking a sip of that drink.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, but it wasn't until later that I thought about how stupid that was that I did that.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: That is such a rookie mistake, and I would have never done that.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: But I just that is so weird because I was gonna say the next question would be what would you tell your younger self or one of the girls' like rules today?
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: And I really put down, don't ever leave your drink.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: And that's so weird that that's like something like what would you tell like somebody today?
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Probably the same, and not even don't leave your drink, watch your drink.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: So I was out in Atlantic City, it was a bunch of you guys are probably there, and I was at the bar, I was with another one of our girlfriends, and two guys were standing there, and they were like, Can we get you a drink?
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: I was like, sure.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: But I was watching bartender give us a drink.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Like, I didn't turn my head, whatever.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: Drink gets in front of me, and I just I then happen to kind of like turn my head to talk.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: I see the out of the corner of my eye take out a little plastic bag with white pills.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Yep, and he put one in my drink.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: And I turned my head and I went, Are you kidding me?
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: And we were with like guys and girls.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Do you really think that I would pass out at this bar and my friends would just watch you carry or like if I was stumbling out of here, my friends would just be like, Oh, she's fine, let her go with this random guy.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: I'm like, what is wrong with you?
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: I remember I told the bartender and they wound up getting kicked out.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: But this guy, I saw him slip me a roofie.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: It was crazy.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: So I think that would be it's just watch or drink.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: There are crazy people out there that they'll do it right in the middle.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, there were so many people at that place.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: But not everybody has a girl group that would look out for them that way.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: I don't feel like everybody No, not everybody does.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: I know a lot of times now they're like promoting people to like go out by themselves and like get a drink at a bar.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: If you want to meet someone like by yourself, I'm like a nervous wreck.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: I would never do something like that.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I wouldn't either.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: There's too many crazy people out there, it's scary.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: So, one more story I have is when I was just away recently in Italy, we were on the train coming back to Catania from Tormina, and we were sitting, there was the four of us who were each sitting in our seats, and then there was a seat in front of us open, and there was a girl sitting there by herself.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: And she was definitely younger than us.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: And we were on the train for a good amount of time by now, and some guy randomly sat next to her.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: And there were plenty of seats around us open, but she just sat there.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Immediately, I was on high alert for this girl because she was definitely traveling alone.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: So I couldn't really understand what he was saying or what she was saying, but he was like asking her questions and looking around definitely seemed super suspicious.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: So when the train stopped, everyone had to get off at the same stop because it was the last one.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: And he got up and started walking in one direction off the train, and then he noticed that she ended up going the opposite direction.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: So I could see him looking out to see where she was going.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: So when we all end up getting off the train, again, she was gonna walk in the direction he was going because he was gonna go up the steps, but then she noticed him and she turned around and then he turned and followed her.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: So I looked at her and I was like, I don't really feel comfortable with what's going on right now.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: You said this to her?
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: There were four of us.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: So I was like, just kind of walk with us.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: And she was like, Okay.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: I feel like she was from Spain, maybe she definitely wasn't American or Italian.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: So she was walking with us, and I heard him calling after someone.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: So then I'm looking, and there was another guy who he wasn't sitting with on the train, and they ended up going up this set of stairs, like they were almost gonna take her or something.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: So then she stayed in between the four of us, and I watched his friend walk up in front of us, and I couldn't see exactly what the guy did.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: It seemed like he like pickpocketed someone ahead of us because I noticed her hand go to her back after he did it and he kept walking right by her, but I don't know what he was saying.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: He was definitely they were talking and looking for this girl.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: She ended up walking all the way with us from the train to the more populated area.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: I don't know exactly where she was going, but it was kind of secluded where we were.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: It was very day, like dark and like dangerous, but something in me just felt so uncomfortable that she was by herself and that something strange was going on.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: And then that like the friend absolutely did something to Daily.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he ended up taking something or just even if he like grabbed her inappropriately, I couldn't tell.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: But you're a girl's girl and looking out.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: That's yeah, that's awesome though.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Because I just kept thinking, like, could you imagine being alone now in a foreign country and something happening to you like that?
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Like you're all alone.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, I was so scared.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: It really made me so nervous.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: I I have chills, and you would like hope that like someone would do that for you if like you were ever in that situation.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: That is so scary.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Which is another reason why it makes me very nervous.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: I don't think I could travel alone because I would be so scared in situations like that.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is not that I don't like to be alone or I can't figure out where I'm going or what I'm doing, but in another country, like no, and in that way, like you could have seen how dark it was when you got off the train and had a walk through the city, like where it was kind of empty, like going on until you got like deeper into the city.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: Like, imagine being in the dark like that.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: Like they could have done anything, and no one would have had any idea.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: That's too scary.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: That is very scary.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: I'm happy you got her safely too.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: That's very creepy, but it's also wide too, and like I've definitely outaged the phase of being kidnapped, but like I don't think so.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: I think we could.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: I think anybody could too, but like even just walk around my neighborhood, like at nighttime.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Like, once it goes dark outside, like that scares me.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Like, I feel like I would be like, especially listening to music or a podcast or something, I would be so paranoid to have like my ears covered and not be able to hear my surroundings.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: I don't know how people do it.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: I walk bright at night a lot.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: Do you?
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: And you don't get nervous?
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: I think because I have her.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, not nervous, yeah.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: She would bark.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: She's a nervous wreck, so I'd be saving her anyway.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: But she would still bark if like she heard something.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: And I do think if something, if I looked in danger, I think she would protect me.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: She is very like protective of us.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: But yeah, for some reason, I don't feel nervous.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: And I would because I'm a nervous wreck.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Yes, but I'm shocked by that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: I'm not for some reason.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: But even when I walk, like anytime, I always have just one airpod in.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: I need to know if there's somebody like coming up on me or but I feel safe too, like in my neighborhood.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: But I probably wouldn't walk the streets too late at night.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Like so.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: I got it.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: You get it?
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Like that scaredy cat.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: Oh my Jamie.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: It's dark, I'm in.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, same.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Before we go, it's time for our PS.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: One thing that we're loving and want to pass along.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know if mine's like loving, but I'm obsessed with the Lindsay Clancy case.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, same.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Like same.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: You haven't been having no idea really about it.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: I'm just like obsessed.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: And now, like, there might be a new trial.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Like I'm I'm hooked.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: And I really don't think she did it.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: And I know our listeners are probably torn.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: All 49 of you.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: But I really don't think she didn't.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: And I think it's really gonna come out that it was her husband.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: I'm torn.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: I don't have an opinion yet, but I am hooked on everything that's going on around this.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: I just don't think the way that like her husband left, why was she wet?
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: There's so many theories.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: I don't think she could have done everything that they said she did in that time frame.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: And she's the only person that if she was to kill herself, why would she cut her wrists this way when they know that it should be this way?
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: She was a nerd.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: So if she was to kill herself, she would know how to kill herself.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: I'm just hooked on the case.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: Like I just need to know everything.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do too.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Again, I'm torn.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: I don't really have an opinion on it, but I am very much into it everywhere.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: You need to watch it.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Like, I have to watch Jeff Lewis.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Do you need to get onto the Lindsay?
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Agreed.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: What about you, Melissa?
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: What am I hooked on right now?
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: This is gonna be so silly, and you guys will make fun of me.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: But honestly, this Earl Gray tea.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: I'm obsessed.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: It's whatever anybody ever has, but I never get it.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: I always get like peppermint or like green tea.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: I was on the plane and I got this because that's what they didn't have.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: I think I asked for chai tea actually and didn't have it.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: So she's like listing them off.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: I was like, I'll do the girl, Earl Gray.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: And then I had it with the honey, and I thought it was the best thing ever.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: And now I can't.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Now you're hooked.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: I know it's weird.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: Do you drink tea every day?
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Not every day.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: It really depends.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: I have a very strict caffeine schedule.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: So it really depends on what the day.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Wait, you have a caffeine?
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Is it because you're trying to limit your caffeine intake?
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Well, it's not that I'm trying to limit it.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: I don't want to have too much.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: So if I have an energy drink, I won't, I usually won't have anything else.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: You do energy drinks?
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: What's your energy drink of choice?
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: I don't want to say because I'm scared.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Celsius?
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I love Celsius.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I do fist free.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: It's delicious.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: But if I don't have a Celsius, I will have a cup of coffee and then maybe like, like today I had a coffee, so like I have tea.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Well about Eugene, what are you up to?
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: So mine is not like a thing, but mine is you don't have to wait for a big occasion to have something to look forward to.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: And this podcast kind of like reminded me of that.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Like put something fun in your calendar, even if it's just a dinner with a friend, a walk, a coffee, you know, recording a podcast.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: And you just put it on calendar.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: If not, like the moment disappears.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: So it just kind of made me realize that starting this podcast is a reminder of how much time I need with my girlfriends.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: So that's my PS of the week.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: I need it on the calendar, and I'm pretty good at sticking to it.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: I set for I forgot to put something in my calendar, and I like I'm doing something for my son's birthday on that Saturday, but I already had plans, but it wasn't in my calendar.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: So Oh yike.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: So which one do you pick?
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: With my son.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: Oh we'll all be there.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: We will.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: We sure will.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: So yes.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: Excited for that.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: So that's it for this week, So We Were Saying.
