- 0:01Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:06Speaker 1: Max b is finally free, Jim Jones pays for that.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Grammy nominations are in and it's kind of what it
- 0:17Speaker 1: should be to be honest, and Billboard says hip hop
- 0:24Speaker 1: is dead. Well that's kind of what the Internet says
- 0:28Speaker 1: as a result of Billboard. But we'll talk about it.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Let's do it. Welcome to Jim Hoop Now Podcast to
- 0:39Speaker 1: do from the future. You know what you do your
- 0:42Speaker 1: as so disrespect the leg hip hop can say to day.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Let's get right into the business. What up, y'all? I
- 0:55Speaker 1: am yours Vegas and this it's hip Hop Now Podcasts
- 0:58Speaker 1: say podcast specifically design to keep you caught up on
- 1:01Speaker 1: all things hip hop, music and culture that happened throughout
- 1:06Speaker 1: the week. Big shout out to the supporters, the listeners,
- 1:10Speaker 1: those who have been listening via audio for however long
- 1:15Speaker 1: over on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your
- 1:19Speaker 1: podcast listening. Also extra big shout out to those who
- 1:23Speaker 1: have subscribed, watched videos, commented, hit the like button, hit
- 1:30Speaker 1: that new hype thing or whatever that YouTube has, and
- 1:34Speaker 1: those of you who have become members of this channel.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Big shout out to you. We are in November, and
- 1:42Speaker 1: the goal was twenty five k by the end of
- 1:47Speaker 1: the year. I think when we started that goal early
- 1:51Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five, the YouTube channel was I think
- 1:55Speaker 1: I was around fifteen. I'm not even gonna lie, And
- 2:01Speaker 1: now it's twenty five because the goal, the end goal
- 2:05Speaker 1: was never twenty five. It was originally one thousand. So
- 2:08Speaker 1: right now we're at twenty two. I say, we're very close,
- 2:13Speaker 1: and we're very close to twenty three, so let's make
- 2:16Speaker 1: it happen. And one of those things that I always say,
- 2:20Speaker 1: and I'll say that at the end of this episode
- 2:22Speaker 1: also is if you've already already subscribed, you like the content,
- 2:28Speaker 1: maybe you want to move on from hearing that. Well,
- 2:30Speaker 1: that's not how things work, because you know, people who
- 2:35Speaker 1: enjoy hip hop, enjoy hip hop content, may be hesitant
- 2:40Speaker 1: to even dive into YouTube channels talking about hip hop
- 2:45Speaker 1: because they want to stay away from the controversy. That's
- 2:49Speaker 1: not what we do here. When it comes to news.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It's about the game, the music, the culture. Sometimes some
- 2:58Speaker 1: things happen and maybe he's some controversy behind it, but
- 3:02Speaker 1: we talk about it in a sensible way, and it's
- 3:04Speaker 1: not just a one way conversation. It is two way talk.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I give my opinion on these stories here. You give
- 3:13Speaker 1: your opinions in the comments. I check them out. I
- 3:16Speaker 1: respond it's all good. So big shout out to hip
- 3:20Speaker 1: HOPDX dot com, all hip hop dot Com and a
- 3:24Speaker 1: couple of places where I'm getting some of these stories from.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Let's get right into the business stuff. Max b has
- 3:32Speaker 1: been freed finally from prison after sixteen plus years behind bars.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Right now, some people are saying, who is this guy
- 3:43Speaker 1: and why is everybody talking about him? You know, is
- 3:45Speaker 1: he an activist? No, he is a guy who was
- 3:51Speaker 1: a rapper ghostwriter. From what I understand, he wrote Jim
- 3:58Speaker 1: Jones probably biggest hit, We Fly High, but a lot
- 4:05Speaker 1: of influence you know, around that time, and he was
- 4:09Speaker 1: known as the wave right sing songy flow, gangster lyrics
- 4:16Speaker 1: for the most part, kind of lived some of it.
- 4:18Speaker 1: That's why he got jammed up in the way he did.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And he's just one of those rappers that had the
- 4:27Speaker 1: potential to be even bigger but never got a shot
- 4:31Speaker 1: because he wound up in prison for a very long time.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But now in the space we're in now, especially with
- 4:39Speaker 1: social media and the Internet, because he was popping in
- 4:43Speaker 1: like the blog era right, like right on the cusp,
- 4:48Speaker 1: sort of in between when we had MySpace pages and
- 4:51Speaker 1: blogs and Facebook started to come out, you know, very young,
- 4:55Speaker 1: I think very young Twitter, maybe not, but the early
- 4:59Speaker 1: stage of the Internet and social media that we know, well,
- 5:05Speaker 1: now you can monetize half the things you do which
- 5:09Speaker 1: weren't happening at one point. There's so many things that
- 5:14Speaker 1: someone like him, with the popularity he had at the time,
- 5:18Speaker 1: could take advantage of. But probably more so than anything
- 5:24Speaker 1: if Max b went into prison almost sixteen years ago.
- 5:28Speaker 1: So again, I'm probably should be thinking more early twentousands
- 5:32Speaker 1: than twenty tens, which block erro was more twenty tens.
- 5:37Speaker 1: That means if I'm in high school and Max b
- 5:40Speaker 1: music is in my headphones at all times, just the era.
- 5:44Speaker 1: You know, this is sixteen years later. That fan base
- 5:49Speaker 1: is not as young as aggressive, aggressive engaged as they
- 5:57Speaker 1: once were. Now some of them just seeing Max b
- 6:00Speaker 1: out is like nostalgia, but it's nostalgia for mixtapes, said, well,
- 6:05Speaker 1: listen to listening to almost twenty years ago, right, And
- 6:10Speaker 1: then there are those people who know his story because
- 6:13Speaker 1: of the internet right and phone interviews from jail and
- 6:17Speaker 1: whatever else. So I look at Max B's potential success
- 6:25Speaker 1: as being similar to what BG experience coming out of prison.
- 6:32Speaker 1: BG finally coming out of prison felt like we've been
- 6:36Speaker 1: looking at Baby and Lil Wayne and Auntie Fresh. That's
- 6:42Speaker 1: many fresh if you've seen a photo for decades now
- 6:47Speaker 1: and sometimes juvenile, you know, he popped out and it's like,
- 6:50Speaker 1: oh juvenile, but you know it's not. We don't get
- 6:53Speaker 1: to see the cash money we know as much. So
- 6:55Speaker 1: when BG came home, it was like, Wow, BG is
- 6:58Speaker 1: back out here and he can make music today, and
- 7:01Speaker 1: a couple of his freestyles, I was like, man, we've
- 7:04Speaker 1: been missing stuff like this right because it just felt
- 7:08Speaker 1: like there were people who who had the game at
- 7:12Speaker 1: one point in time, and once they were gone, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: that vibe, whatever they gave off was gone. And now
- 7:21Speaker 1: you get like BG coming out of prison and now
- 7:24Speaker 1: Max B. You feel like, well, there's an opportunity for
- 7:29Speaker 1: them to like blow up again. And I think with
- 7:32Speaker 1: BG it's probably been mostly successful but not as big
- 7:37Speaker 1: as you know you would think. But when BG got
- 7:41Speaker 1: out of prison, you know, I think we saw him
- 7:45Speaker 1: get his hair done, you know, stuff like that. Well,
- 7:49Speaker 1: Max b got out of prison. It was like, I
- 7:53Speaker 1: don't know, like the Messiah came home the way that
- 7:56Speaker 1: people covered that, like he was finally on the street.
- 7:58Speaker 1: You know, you get the shaky camp like they go,
- 8:00Speaker 1: he's coming out of the and I was like, Wow,
- 8:03Speaker 1: maybe I need to go back and listen some more
- 8:05Speaker 1: because it's not I'm not going to say I wasn't
- 8:08Speaker 1: a fan, but I was. I was of a different
- 8:10Speaker 1: generation where the kids was on AD heavy, whereas I
- 8:15Speaker 1: was more so like because you're talking like, what is
- 8:19Speaker 1: that seven? For the most part, you know, maybe maybe
- 8:24Speaker 1: not oh seven, but around that time, and even though
- 8:27Speaker 1: I was still into hip hop, obviously I'm looking at
- 8:30Speaker 1: it like, oh yeah, dude is cool. You know, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: could see why, you know, a younger generation like him,
- 8:35Speaker 1: but I'm not going crazy, you know, And I feel like,
- 8:41Speaker 1: what I wonder what the plan is for him musically,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you know, the label, the music. Is he going to
- 8:49Speaker 1: try to do something different because you know he feels
- 8:53Speaker 1: like that's what's happening now? Is he going to try
- 8:56Speaker 1: to repeat what he does and it's going to sound
- 8:58Speaker 1: older people? You know, you just don't know. So we'll see.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Are you happy that Max B's home for the music.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Are you happy in general or are you like, I
- 9:11Speaker 1: really don't know this, dude, who are you talking about?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Leave your comments in a comments section below. Next. So,
- 9:18Speaker 1: the Grammy nominations are out, and it's honestly exactly what
- 9:24Speaker 1: I expected going off of their more recent track record.
- 9:29Speaker 1: As it relates to hip hop again, they tend to
- 9:35Speaker 1: at least now get the album other year hip hop
- 9:38Speaker 1: album other year mostly correct. Previously it was barely hip hop,
- 9:45Speaker 1: and then at one point it was more so hip
- 9:48Speaker 1: hop that sold, you know, hip hop that was popular,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and those some may argue that's what this is as
- 9:57Speaker 1: far as a pop, you know, popular album. I feel
- 10:02Speaker 1: like for most hip hop lists from media respectable in
- 10:07Speaker 1: some not respectable media organizations, some of these albums were
- 10:14Speaker 1: in are or continue to be the best of the year.
- 10:18Speaker 1: So when I see albums that I know wind up
- 10:21Speaker 1: in my best of the year, they're not off. So
- 10:25Speaker 1: best Rap album nominees are the clips. Let God sort
- 10:30Speaker 1: them out. Gloilla, Glorious, Jid, God does like Ugly, Kendrick Lamar,
- 10:37Speaker 1: gn X, and Tyler the Creator Chromacopia. Now, I didn't
- 10:44Speaker 1: necessarily have Glorilla in my list of best albums of
- 10:48Speaker 1: the year. But when I tell you every woman from
- 10:54Speaker 1: older generations to younger generations was on that album, it
- 11:00Speaker 1: was almost it'll almost be a slap in the face
- 11:02Speaker 1: if that album is not here, because I'm telling you
- 11:05Speaker 1: you had not boombab guy, you might have not even
- 11:09Speaker 1: known that album came out. When I tell you, women
- 11:15Speaker 1: that grew up on Little Kim and Foxy and mc
- 11:18Speaker 1: light and they just like this glow Reller stuff. They
- 11:22Speaker 1: like what she's saying, they like her ad lives, they
- 11:25Speaker 1: like the beats. It should be nominated. Now should it win? No,
- 11:30Speaker 1: but my pick. If we're picking out of those five,
- 11:34Speaker 1: I'm just gonna go with the Clips, like God sow
- 11:36Speaker 1: them out. I played gen next to death. I think
- 11:40Speaker 1: Cornucopia is a Chromacopia is a dope album. Jed was
- 11:45Speaker 1: surprisingly dope. I know he could spit, but this was
- 11:48Speaker 1: the first time I heard the album from him. I
- 11:49Speaker 1: was like, this is this is great, this is a masterpiece.
- 11:53Speaker 1: But it's Clips for me. Best rap song Doughshe Anxiety
- 11:58Speaker 1: Clips with John Legend, The Birds Don't Sing, Sticky with
- 12:03Speaker 1: Tyler the Creator, Gloriala, Sexy Red and Lil Wayne Gloriala
- 12:07Speaker 1: tgif Wow she got two nominations and tv Off by
- 12:12Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar and left the Gun play. I'm gonna say
- 12:19Speaker 1: it would be dope if the Clips could get this song,
- 12:22Speaker 1: but it's probably going to do. If there is one
- 12:29Speaker 1: record that was like constantly being played, it was that
- 12:35Speaker 1: one Anxiety with Dosh. It was almost like crazy. And again,
- 12:40Speaker 1: all these other ones did their numbers as far as
- 12:44Speaker 1: spins and on a radio and all of that, but
- 12:48Speaker 1: I think that's the one with the Clips. I don't
- 12:50Speaker 1: know if Birds Don't Sing is the song off the
- 12:53Speaker 1: album that should be considered for Best Rap Song. But
- 12:56Speaker 1: it's a great record, so best Rap performs outside by
- 13:02Speaker 1: Cardi B, Changing Whips, Clips and Kendrick and Pharrell Doshe Anxiety,
- 13:08Speaker 1: Kendrick tv Off, Darling I Tyler the Creator featuring Tezo
- 13:14Speaker 1: Touchdown though she could possibly win this one. Also, I'm
- 13:22Speaker 1: not even gonna lie, but if I'm going to go
- 13:25Speaker 1: out on a limb, I have to say Changing Whips,
- 13:28Speaker 1: specifically the Tiny Desk performance where pushing ts in the camera.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I buy y'all buy watches, I buy collections like he
- 13:39Speaker 1: talking to He's talking to Jim Jones, but he talking
- 13:43Speaker 1: through that camera and it's so compelling to watch because
- 13:48Speaker 1: I'm sitting there like and this is not even a video,
- 13:51Speaker 1: so I don't know, but I think it could be
- 13:54Speaker 1: dough She It could be clips in this regard. But
- 13:56Speaker 1: who knows best melodic rat performance? What category? Is this
- 14:02Speaker 1: invented so that somebody can get a Grammy? Now? Proud
- 14:07Speaker 1: of Me Friday featuring Meek Mill, Wholeheartedly, Jid featuring Taler,
- 14:13Speaker 1: Dallas Sign and Slack. I think that's his name, right
- 14:17Speaker 1: because it's like six black Slack. I guess so Luther,
- 14:21Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar featured, and Scissor. Okay, we're gonna start right there.
- 14:25Speaker 1: That's the one that's gonna win. But for those who
- 14:27Speaker 1: want to keep the battle alive, Somebody Loves Me by
- 14:29Speaker 1: Drake and Party next Door. It's also nominated. I don't
- 14:33Speaker 1: think that's the record for them, but Kendrick Lamar says
- 14:38Speaker 1: of getting this one, they just are. Another one that's
- 14:43Speaker 1: interesting is because gn X, Let God Sort Them Out
- 14:49Speaker 1: and Chromocope are all also in the Album of the
- 14:54Speaker 1: Year nominations, and let's see Song of the Year. She's there.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Kendrick and Scissor there that could possibly take that category
- 15:07Speaker 1: as well. Possibly, And let's see what's in Record of
- 15:12Speaker 1: the Year. Yeah, Record of the Year. Luther's there also,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and Anxiety is there by Doshi so and I think
- 15:20Speaker 1: that's it. Yeah, that's it for hip hop. So when
- 15:23Speaker 1: you look at that alone, Kendrick could walk away with
- 15:27Speaker 1: a couple of Grammys, right, maybe two or three, maybe
- 15:30Speaker 1: not as many as he had before, but definitely for Luthor,
- 15:34Speaker 1: this could be the Luther clean up session. Like wherever
- 15:38Speaker 1: Luther's featured, that's where it wins. But again, when it
- 15:44Speaker 1: comes to Album of the Year, that's a solid list
- 15:49Speaker 1: for the category. And I know some people look at
- 15:52Speaker 1: Glorilla again being in there and saying they had to
- 15:55Speaker 1: put that one in there. The only reason why I
- 15:58Speaker 1: say it should be there is because again I watched
- 16:02Speaker 1: these women, man that this is all They were all
- 16:04Speaker 1: playing Gorilla. It was all over my social media. They
- 16:08Speaker 1: all were loving it. Me on the other hand, I'm like,
- 16:14Speaker 1: speak old, what can you put? Can you put something
- 16:17Speaker 1: else on? You know, something else? Okay? So I don't know,
- 16:22Speaker 1: we'll see when the Grammys happened and they're recorded and
- 16:26Speaker 1: goes down next year early next year, but don't forget
- 16:30Speaker 1: to stay locked into this channel because next month will
- 16:34Speaker 1: be my best of the year. And just as a preview,
- 16:37Speaker 1: right I put out one video that sort of like
- 16:41Speaker 1: a recommend recommendations video of the best albums of each year,
- 16:46Speaker 1: and then I also put out one for October. Specifically,
- 16:51Speaker 1: I'll do one for November at the very end of November.
- 16:57Speaker 1: But then when we come to December, I'm not going
- 17:00Speaker 1: to do a best of the December. I'm just going
- 17:02Speaker 1: to do a best of the year because we have
- 17:04Speaker 1: some albums on the way, specifically in November Daylight Soul
- 17:09Speaker 1: and I Believe also Stove God Cooks and you know,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I'm charged up and waiting for that. And then December
- 17:15Speaker 1: we got Nasen Primo So and whatever else is going
- 17:18Speaker 1: to drop. I think another Ransom, maybe Conway, so we'll see,
- 17:23Speaker 1: but stay tuned for that on the channel. And lastly,
- 17:28Speaker 1: sing So about a week or so ago, maybe even
- 17:33Speaker 1: close to two weeks, it was reported that no hip
- 17:39Speaker 1: hop records appeared on Billboard's top or Hot one hundred lists,
- 17:45Speaker 1: and this was the first time since something like nineteen ninety,
- 17:48Speaker 1: which is crazy, and that brought up the question is
- 17:54Speaker 1: hip hop dead? Now people are arguing each other down
- 18:00Speaker 1: out that and also not paying attention because the very
- 18:03Speaker 1: next week, hip hop returned to the hot one hundred
- 18:05Speaker 1: I believe with Megan thee Stallion. But also if you
- 18:08Speaker 1: go check right now, it's a couple of people they
- 18:11Speaker 1: are gunna like it. Cardi B's there. I think it
- 18:15Speaker 1: was a bad week for hip hop, but people started
- 18:19Speaker 1: to challenge is hip hop dead? So the narratives were,
- 18:25Speaker 1: you know, like the Kendrick Lamar and Drake Beef ruined
- 18:28Speaker 1: hip hop to the point where, yeah, sure Kendrick did
- 18:32Speaker 1: some numbers when gen X was hot, but now nobody
- 18:35Speaker 1: wants to hear anything else because they have fatigue with
- 18:39Speaker 1: hip hop, right or the battle having lyricism and technique
- 18:49Speaker 1: and all this other stuff and strategy in a real battle.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Rap way kind of made it so those guys who
- 18:56Speaker 1: made radio songs can't eat because now the appetite of
- 19:01Speaker 1: the listener is to hear depth within your lyrics. So
- 19:06Speaker 1: to all of these and let me just say this
- 19:08Speaker 1: last one, then you got the old heads who look
- 19:12Speaker 1: at it as that happened. Good. Now it's a reset
- 19:17Speaker 1: and for the better, and that's why we got clips
- 19:20Speaker 1: and mass appeals, seven Icons albums and all these old
- 19:24Speaker 1: school artists dropping and the music's great. It feels like
- 19:29Speaker 1: the attention span is back on lyricism and back on
- 19:35Speaker 1: true hip hop, like it feels like the hype of again,
- 19:39Speaker 1: like day La Soul released their new single produced by
- 19:43Speaker 1: p Rock, The Joint is crazy, and it felt like
- 19:46Speaker 1: when that joint dropped, that's all you seeing over social media.
- 19:50Speaker 1: And I don't think some people understand that. Well, unless
- 19:54Speaker 1: you follow a bunch of young people, your timeline will
- 19:56Speaker 1: reflect your generation, which means, of course everybody you know
- 19:59Speaker 1: timeline is for Daylight, so they all right, But it's
- 20:05Speaker 1: bigger than that, because even media publications are reporting more
- 20:10Speaker 1: on some of these older artists and lyricism is a
- 20:16Speaker 1: part of the conversation again. And look even Cardi B
- 20:21Speaker 1: doing the imagine every players joint like that being a single.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Once upon time that wouldn't have been no single, that
- 20:26Speaker 1: would have been like some little slick mixtape maybe side hustle.
- 20:31Speaker 1: That joint had everybody's attention and it was about bars
- 20:34Speaker 1: and dissing and battling and all of that. So yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 1: because don't tell me that glory whole line wasn't crazy.
- 20:43Speaker 1: You would think it was crazy if your favorite rapper
- 20:45Speaker 1: said it. But I pose the question to myself after
- 20:50Speaker 1: watching everybody, are you hip hop is not dead? I
- 20:55Speaker 1: just read you the Grammys, the Clips, and then like
- 21:00Speaker 1: it's Jed is he's rappers, rapper, he rapping Kendrick. Even
- 21:06Speaker 1: though this album was like a homage to West Coast,
- 21:11Speaker 1: hip hop is still hip hop, and you know there's
- 21:14Speaker 1: still records. I mean, if you heard the album, sure,
- 21:18Speaker 1: if you don't like that West Coast vibe, you don't
- 21:20Speaker 1: like that music, but that's that's what they're doing out there.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And JNX was highly successful, including the tour. So I
- 21:28Speaker 1: look at it like that where you got Kendrick doing
- 21:33Speaker 1: what he did with Drake, and now Kendrick's on this
- 21:36Speaker 1: clip clips album. This Clips album is kind of crazy.
- 21:39Speaker 1: And Pharrell, who's typically commercial, he did all them beats,
- 21:44Speaker 1: don't Sleep. He's he's involved. It's like everybody who you
- 21:51Speaker 1: would see on the mainstream level is involved, but they're
- 21:54Speaker 1: paying it forward. So also on this album, it's Stove
- 21:58Speaker 1: God Cooks and now we finally get a follow up
- 22:02Speaker 1: to Reasonable Drought as a result, because now Stove got
- 22:06Speaker 1: is popular as a And when I say popular, I
- 22:09Speaker 1: don't care about you dusty dudes like we've been all that.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Nobody cares, nobody asking about you. We're talking about when
- 22:16Speaker 1: the people who are outside like that start to recognize
- 22:20Speaker 1: the dude you you were already up on, That's when
- 22:24Speaker 1: it becomes something special. So now Stove got finally got
- 22:28Speaker 1: an album coming out, West Side Gun dropping a couple
- 22:31Speaker 1: of albums in a row, and people are talking about them.
- 22:34Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Uh what Raycon and Ghosts
- 22:38Speaker 1: become popular again because they are slick rick like mob Deep,
- 22:44Speaker 1: like all of this energy is taking it back to
- 22:50Speaker 1: lyricism and real, real hip hop, what hip hop is
- 22:53Speaker 1: really about. And it didn't even just start this year,
- 22:56Speaker 1: right we had Common and Pete Rock. Last year we
- 22:59Speaker 1: had LL. So it's like a domino effect of Steel
- 23:04Speaker 1: Sharpen and Steel and older acts releasing really good projects
- 23:09Speaker 1: late in their career after Nas just did it with
- 23:13Speaker 1: hit Boys. So it's sort of like it's been building.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But people feel like, because it's returning to that type
- 23:21Speaker 1: of hip hop, that type of rap, it's not gonna
- 23:26Speaker 1: impact the Hot one hundred. It doesn't sell. That's always
- 23:30Speaker 1: been true. And like I said, that was one week
- 23:34Speaker 1: recently where there was no hip hop and the Hot
- 23:37Speaker 1: one hundred, and the very next week or a couple
- 23:40Speaker 1: of days if that, it was right back there. But
- 23:45Speaker 1: it wasn't these guys. So hip hop can be both.
- 23:49Speaker 1: You can have Meghan Stallion and Cardi B and Gunna
- 23:53Speaker 1: and Offset and all these people released and hit the
- 23:56Speaker 1: Hot one hundred, but also have daylight soul get ready
- 24:00Speaker 1: to drop and feel like the world is talking about it,
- 24:03Speaker 1: and they do better than they've done as a result.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Some of that is even though these are older artists,
- 24:12Speaker 1: they're dropping albums, you know, sometimes years after their last album.
- 24:18Speaker 1: But it's not silent, you know what I'm saying. It's
- 24:21Speaker 1: not just a group of people who are checking for it.
- 24:24Speaker 1: It's like everybody is playing this music or critiquing it.
- 24:29Speaker 1: So hip hop is more alive today than it's ever
- 24:33Speaker 1: been and it's turning the corner, I hope, because the
- 24:38Speaker 1: more younger people and other generations see these releases from
- 24:43Speaker 1: some of these older artists from the nineties and go
- 24:46Speaker 1: back and do the knowledge, they become fans and what
- 24:49Speaker 1: happens they show up at their shows and now these
- 24:53Speaker 1: artists who once probably did stadiums and big venues, who
- 24:57Speaker 1: had to downsize that just to continue to make bread.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Maybe they step up for a while and now they
- 25:03Speaker 1: can pack a place because now they got new fans.
- 25:06Speaker 1: You see what I'm saying. So to me, when you
- 25:10Speaker 1: look at all the reactions, and especially when you look
- 25:12Speaker 1: at the best of the Year list by the end
- 25:17Speaker 1: of this year, you're gonna see You're gonna see a
- 25:21Speaker 1: variety of generations in these lists, and that means hip
- 25:26Speaker 1: hop is healthy. So do you think hip hop is dead?
