- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me, covering one Piece
- 0:12episodes five oh nine and five ten encounter the Great Swordsman Mihawk, Zoro's self,
- 0:19will deadly struggle, and a disaster for Soanji, the Queen's return to
- 0:25the Kingdom. In these episodes, our friends are just trying to get back
- 0:31to Loofy and they are being prevented in a variety of ways, and it
- 0:36is genuinely frustrating in some cases because like, come now, that's clearly Sonji
- 0:44in that poster. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the show everyone.
- 1:07I am Natasha. I am going to say thank you to Florian for this
- 1:15episode, and I'm right, okay, Thank god. I was about to
- 1:18be like, did I not read my thing correctly? But thank you Florian
- 1:21not only for commissioning this but also being patient in me having to postpone it
- 1:25because I did not feel well on Friday or Thursday. One of those things
- 1:32guys, where you've ever been so tired because something's up with your body that
- 1:38even though I'm not somebody who falls asleep watching TV or who falls asleep reading,
- 1:42I could not get through any of my reading that day without falling asleep.
- 1:48I couldn't get through a one piece episode without falling asleep. I don't
- 1:51know what was wrong with me. And after I finished watching the episodes,
- 1:56I have tried to, like because I'll do this sometimes where I sort of
- 2:00think about, like the high points of the episode, of the plot,
- 2:01and I couldn't, like remember what happened. My brain was fucking messed up.
- 2:08But these episodes are really like the main thing about them is just what
- 2:17everybody is running up against, the obstacles to getting back together with their friends
- 2:23at Sabayote. And it turns out that and you know this, this was
- 2:31pointed out at the end of the last episode, but I don't think that
- 2:35I realized exactly what the significance was. Because Mihawk shows up right at the
- 2:42island gloom Island, I think is what it's called, where uh Pirona and
- 2:51Zorro are, and I just thought he was here to deliver news sorrow.
- 2:58I don't know why I thought that Zora was important enough for him to track
- 3:01down and tell this too. I just took it for granted that he would
- 3:07do that, And it turns out I was just so wrong. It turns
- 3:12it turns out this is his house that they're in. They're chilling in Mehawk's
- 3:17castle, and they are uninvited and they're very rude. House guests says,
- 3:23it turns out just eating him out of house and home and fucking with his
- 3:27stuff. And I think that at this point there was a I think that
- 3:35Florian. That Florian is saying that was so sweet to hear you think that,
- 3:38Yeah, a sweet summer child, was I. But I feel like
- 3:43when I was asking about like where this place was or who lived here,
- 3:49that Florian, you were trying to sort of I won't say you were trying
- 3:52to hint, because you weren't giving me any clues or anything, but you
- 3:55were like saying that it belonged to somebody that we had met before. For
- 4:00I feel like you just gave me that much info and that I tried in
- 4:03vain to think who that could possibly be. And I was coming up with
- 4:10nhing my friends because I always forget that me Hawk's aesthetic is spooky guy.
- 4:23Ooh, I'm sorry, guys, I lost power for a second there.
- 4:27My stuff, like my router and my computer are plugged into a backup battery,
- 4:31so that's why. I didn't actually like lose my feet or anything,
- 4:39but I just heard the beeping of stuff turning on and off, and now
- 4:42the lights behind me are blinking because that's their default setting. Sorry about that.
- 4:46I wonder why we are losing power. But anyway, me Hawk for
- 4:53me the fact that he is like the greatest swordsman, I would think that
- 4:58his aesthetic would be something that's centered around like fencing a lot more, but
- 5:02I always forget. He has that boat that's like coffin shaped, and he's
- 5:10got those like weird green candle flames and wears that cross around his neck and
- 5:16there's like a cross on the island. So that really should have been like
- 5:21a clue. And I didn't put that shit together at all. So I
- 5:28don't know what it is about Mehawk that makes me forget his whole deal.
- 5:34But it's so I think that I consider because it's almost like a Dracula,
- 5:42right, okay, Florie, And I was just about to say it's almost
- 5:46a Dracula sort of vibe, and then he types Dracul Mihawk is his name?
- 5:50I don't. I think that the reason why I forget is because his
- 5:59whole per personality, his vibe is so sedate, and I think of a
- 6:02person whose first name is Drac Cool, and I'm like, this is a
- 6:08very dramatic motherfucker. And he isn't. Like he's dramatic in just the fact
- 6:13that he can fight on a level that nobody can compete with. That is
- 6:17inherently dramatic. But Mihawk doesn't have a dramatic presence. He is his esthetic
- 6:27looks dramatic, but in like one Piece Land, it's not even really like
- 6:32that much. To be honest, you could actually say that his look is
- 6:39sort of sedate in comparison to what a lot of people are wearing and how
- 6:45they look, and you know what I mean. So like, I think
- 6:48if he had more flair, then I might recall this a little bit more
- 6:57easily. But he just seems so uninterested in his own vibes that I forget
- 7:05about them, is what it really comes down to. Florian says, well,
- 7:13him just sitting there and drinking wine, that is drama to me.
- 7:16Well, that's that's the thing, is like, because he is so understated,
- 7:25it does feel more dramatic. This is the thing that some people can
- 7:28manage to do is in being really, really restrained, they keep all eyes
- 7:34on them, and it's somehow this like reverse psychology thing, and I absolutely
- 7:42could never restraint me, never heard of it, so it's very difficult for
- 7:47me to understand, especially you're going with your like Dracula esthetic. I mean,
- 7:54like, then go for it, then do it fucking have an accent
- 7:59and shit, you know what I'm saying. But anyway, part of his
- 8:03appeal is the fact that he doesn't do that. So Okay, I'm getting
- 8:09ahead of myself here, but you know, I just really wanted to start
- 8:13things off with the revelation of whose home this is because I felt like a
- 8:16real fucking ding dong for not knowing this right away, and also when I
- 8:24found out it was his home, I fully thought, this is why the
- 8:31weird apes are like this. They fight the way they do because this is
- 8:37Mehawk's territory, Hawkeye's meet territory. And it turns out that's not actually true
- 8:46either, that there was like this war going on and they imitate human behavior
- 8:56and so the war that left all of this carnage behind is responsible for their
- 9:01warlike nature. And if this war hadn't been happening, they would have turned
- 9:05out to be very, very different creatures, and I was so surprised because
- 9:13I just completely assumed, Oh, yeah, they're amazing swordsmen and fighters on
- 9:18the level that they are, because just being around somebody who is on the
- 9:22level that Mihawk is has inspired them and they have like followed his example somehow,
- 9:28or Mihawk has taught them, which didn't feel real in character, but
- 9:31I was just like, what do I know? They know? What does
- 9:33he do in his spare time? I don't know? And instead it's like
- 9:37a completely unrelated thing, and Mihawk describes coming to the island for the first
- 9:41time and they're being like bodies everywhere, which I don't recall. If we're
- 9:48actually told why that war was fought, what was going on with that,
- 9:52I don't think so, And I'm not sure how important that even is,
- 9:56But just just wanting to share with you all the assumptions that I made right
- 10:01and left that all turned out to be fucking incorrect, because I don't know
- 10:07how things work still, I guess. And it turns out like Pirona is
- 10:13out here sobbing, crying because she is under the impression that Maria is dead,
- 10:18and I was definitely for a second like, wait, did I miss
- 10:24that? I felt again like a goon. And then it turned out,
- 10:30okay, this isn't meant to be actually, like, uh, what is
- 10:35it that he says? Mihawk is reading the article because she found out about
- 10:41this from the newspaper, and he says, this article is not credible.
- 10:48So because the thing that I remembered was a bunch of people like gathering around
- 10:54Maria, I feel like it was Kuma's that were gathered around him if I'm
- 10:58not mistaken, but I may be mistaken. And so I was like under
- 11:03this impression that he had been captured, but I did not think he was
- 11:09dead. So Parona grieving as she was, caught me off guard. And
- 11:13then it turns out I was right to be caught off guard, because that's
- 11:16not necessarily the information that I have. Parona also is surprisingly interested in Zoro's
- 11:28welfare, and it's really difficult for me to tell how much she actually gives
- 11:33a shit about Zoro and how much she's just drama girl and wants to be
- 11:39have something to whine and complain about, because no shade to that. By
- 11:43the way, I am an ace complainer. I love complaining. It's so
- 11:48much fun and it can be very funny. So I am not cast in
- 11:54judgment or aspersions by saying this, but there was a part of me that
- 11:58was like, I don't think you even care about Zoro. I think you
- 12:01just want something to like rail about and just be like I can't believe you
- 12:05do that. I can't believe he'd do that. I can't believe this is
- 12:09happening. I can't believe exs you know what I mean? Like, I
- 12:11just get the vibe from Pirnha that she's sort of never happy with anything,
- 12:16and maybe that's unfair, maybe that's not true at all, but that sort
- 12:20of the vibe I got was just like, I don't really know that she
- 12:24likes Oro at all, that it's about him. I don't think it is.
- 12:28I think it's just like later on, when she's pursuing him, all
- 12:33she's thinking is how I thought this was amazing by the way, he's at
- 12:39least better than me, Hawk, who She's been here this whole time and
- 12:41he's never even offered her a cup of hot coco, not even ones,
- 12:46which, you know what, She's right to be upset about that Mehawk,
- 12:50sir, where's your hospitality? He rightfully says, I didn't invite you.
- 12:58I just showed up and you were here. They didn't ask to come here.
- 13:01Though they didn't choose to be here. They got sent here. That
- 13:05wasn't their choice either. So in showing some like respect for the fact that
- 13:11they are actively like at least one of them trying to leave, maybe just
- 13:16be nice, maybe you know, And one could argue he is nice because
- 13:22when Zora wakes up and is like, I want off this fucking rock,
- 13:26he tells Oora where to go to get a boat, which is more than
- 13:31he was expected to do. I guess. Unfortunately, Zorro gets waylaid by
- 13:39these ape creatures. I can't remember what he keeps calling them, but I
- 13:43saw it last time as well, and it was like it it's like humanids
- 13:52or something like this, or and they, it turns out, are able
- 13:56to imitate Zoro's three sword style. I am shook by that. It's one
- 14:05thing to just know how to fight. It's another thing to be able to,
- 14:07like harness whatever power Zoro is harnessing to fight back the same exact way,
- 14:16and to be able to do that practically overnight as well, that's a
- 14:22whole different situation and when they busted that out, I was genuinely like,
- 14:28how the fun because there's actual humans mandrills. Florian says mandrills. I think
- 14:35they're called the human drills is the way they're called. That's what it is,
- 14:41human drills. Thank you, Florian, But I just don't understand how
- 14:48these creatures are able to figure out his style and human beings aren't able to
- 14:58replicate it as far as we have seen. And I love the fact because,
- 15:03like, yes, Zoro is also shaken by the fact that they're able
- 15:09to do this. But it's not as much the reaction that I was expecting,
- 15:16which is like, oh shit, these are nobody to fuck with.
- 15:20As it turns out, it's instead this indignation, not that they stole his
- 15:28technique, but more that they have so little self respect that they would be
- 15:35willing to use a technique they stole on him the person they stole it from.
- 15:43You know, like, it's one thing to steal a technique and use
- 15:45it on somebody else who doesn't know you stole it, and so it just
- 15:48seems really impressive. But if you're stealing it from someone and then you use
- 15:52it on them, you are admitting to the fact that you're just copying,
- 15:56which is embarrassing to Zorro's just like, how can you do that? Have
- 16:02some fucking pride, you know, And I do sort of enjoy coming at
- 16:07it from that place. I am very curious about and this is something that
- 16:11has come up with like loofy as well. I don't know if we're ever
- 16:17going to get an explanation. I don't think. I feel like you guys
- 16:21have attempted in the comments and stuff at times to give me some borderline head
- 16:27canon explanations for the ways in which Lufy has figured out first gear, second
- 16:33gear, third gear. Because we didn't really see on screen him developing these
- 16:37new techniques. It sort of just seemed like he busted out with them out
- 16:41of nowhere a little bit. And that's sort of how I feel about Zoro's
- 16:45techniques as well. I wish that we got to see how he came across
- 16:51some of the methods that he uses. It's not like really important. I
- 16:57just find it a bit jarring when he's able to use like a demon technique
- 17:03that I've never seen before, and I don't know how he figured out how
- 17:07this even worked. But I'm spending too much time on Zorro suffice to say
- 17:14that uh, Parona like chases after him to see if he's okay and leaves
- 17:19Meehawk in his castle, and Meehawk has a moment of like, I'll just
- 17:25let her go, But then he thinks back to the way that Zoro fought
- 17:27and was willing to take a cut on his chest because any marks on his
- 17:33back would be a disgrace. So he comes out and like checks up on
- 17:38Zoro as well, and when he points, when Mihawk points out, like
- 17:45that ship's fucked up, so you can't use that, Zoro just says,
- 17:49well, it's it's not that bad. I'll be able to hold onto it
- 17:55and partially swim. I don't give up that easily. Meehawk says, it's
- 18:02an admirable sentiment, but you aren't going to be able to defeat these creatures.
- 18:10And this is when he describes this was the site of a great war.
- 18:15When I first came here to live, the island still smelled of blood
- 18:18and smoke everywhere. Dead bodies littered the ground. So that's where they're getting
- 18:26weapons and armor and whatnot from. Is like all of these people who were
- 18:32killed here. So he says, now let's leave. It's late the humandrils
- 18:42won't set foot near the castle, and Zoro's just like, fuck you,
- 18:48I'm not doing what you say. I've got to get out onto the water.
- 18:51I have to go and find Loofy. And Mihak just says, all
- 18:56right, fine, do what you like, Zoro. I've already wasted enough
- 19:02time stranded in this dump. And he says, I'm gonna cut down every
- 19:08single one of them. And as he says this, we cut to Pirona
- 19:12who sees him going in once again to this fight. All of his swords
- 19:18go flying into the air, and then we have an interstitial and when we
- 19:22come back, it's a whole other storyline, so we don't actually see what
- 19:26happened to Zoro. That's just the way that ends. So the storyline we
- 19:30come back on is Brooks, where everybody thinks that he's Satan and that he's
- 19:37going to help them get defended against the long Arm tribe. All right,
- 19:45I am gonna just say this. I had a lot of hope for this
- 19:51storyline, and there are some funny bits. I'm not going to lie.
- 19:57However, it's sort of agonizing, and I think that's the point, right,
- 20:07But it's just difficult to get through because there's kind of one joke and
- 20:15it's just over and over again. It's just said, and the joke is
- 20:22that they think he's Satan, and so they just keep saying the name Satan,
- 20:29either hail Satan or like at a boy Satan, whatever it's it's the
- 20:36joke is using the name Satan in the way that they are so constantly is
- 20:41the part that's funny, and it mostly does work, but it feels very
- 20:49flat after a little while. And it's also really confusing because like, you
- 20:56know, he locks himself in this room and he's writing this music. We
- 21:00know he's writing music, and he comes out and he's got this stack of
- 21:04music that he has written. And evidently these guys don't even know what music
- 21:10looks like written down, and so the leader of this group is apparently like
- 21:18This is something that I always find kind of frustrating. It's a trope that
- 21:25happens a lot, especially when you're dealing with this kind of storyline where it's
- 21:29somebody being mistaken for a god, where you've got like the person who's the
- 21:34actual god allegedly, and then you have somebody who is supposed to be the
- 21:41leader interacting with that God, and the actual God is telling people no,
- 21:45no, no, don't do that, but nobody's actually listening to that God.
- 21:49They are listening to the leader instead. So the dude who's running things
- 21:57here with his stupid sheep hat, he tells everybody like, oh, these
- 22:03marks are like sigils to keep the long Arms away. I bet if we
- 22:08put these up all over the place, even just looking at them, is
- 22:12it's gonna kill the members of the long Arm clan. And Brooke is like,
- 22:18no, well, no, that's not what they are, and you
- 22:19shouldn't separate the pages. And nobody pays any attention to him, which is
- 22:25part of what I found, Like, this doesn't make any sense. If
- 22:27they think he's God and he's speaking the same a god, they think he's
- 22:32Satan and he's speaking the same language as them, they would listen to him
- 22:37over their own leader. Anyway. It doesn't matter all this to say that
- 22:41they spread the papers out before he manages to be like, no, this
- 22:45is music and it's supposed to be that. Once he gets the pages together
- 22:49and he actually plays the music, they get so inflated with inspiration. Basically
- 22:59to defend themselves in a way that they haven't in the past, that they
- 23:03finally stand up to the long Arm clan and they are they They say later
- 23:11like, well, Brooks, you're the one who really well, they say,
- 23:14Sane, you're the one who really fought and did most of the work.
- 23:19But still you prove to us that, like we can stand up and
- 23:23do something and fight back. And uh, it's such a The way that
- 23:30this goes is so weird because they've got the long Arm guys in a cage,
- 23:37and the clan leader is like, I know what, let's do.
- 23:41These guys are freaks because they have like two elbows, and we could sell
- 23:47tickets to look at them because they're freaks and make a bunch of money off
- 23:52of it. They'll be like a little display. And Brooks, who had
- 23:56been like about to bounce from this place overhears and is like, no,
- 24:03no, no, you can't do that. That's immoral and you wouldn't like
- 24:10it if they did that to you. And he's trying to do this sort
- 24:12of turn the other cheek thing, which nobody seems to have any questions as
- 24:19to why Satan would be this forgiving, but he convinces them let these guys
- 24:26out of their cage, let them go, because that's what you would want.
- 24:33And once these students are let out, they just scoop Brooks up,
- 24:38tie him up like a little fucking turkey, and carry him on their shoulders
- 24:42because they are going to cell tickets for people to see the walking, talking
- 24:48skeleton and make a bunch of money that way. And when he is carried
- 24:52off, the people in the klan that he just left behind are like,
- 24:56well, we'll have to summon another devil to help us help Satan. And
- 25:02one of them is like, yes, well summon him through the power of
- 25:06underwear, which I had forgotten about the panties thing from earlier that they deeply
- 25:11misunderstood. I am really kind of wanting them to actually summon a devil and
- 25:18to see what that would even look like. I don't anticipate that that's going
- 25:22to be how the story goes, but I think it would be funny.
- 25:26But Brooke, as he's being carried over the hills, is thinking to himself,
- 25:30how like, lufy, I hope that you listen to music to inspire
- 25:33you, because that'll help you get through a lot of the bad times.
- 25:40And I actually really kind of liked that even though it does not feel like
- 25:44it, that whole storyline is just not good, you know, it's just
- 25:48not Florence says, Yeah, Brooks and Choppers are the weakest storylines to me,
- 25:53with all the straw hat my boys deserve better. Yeah, definitely,
- 25:59although I maintain for me right now, even weaker than Choppers is probably at
- 26:08this point oosops. But we haven't gotten enough of his to know, so
- 26:15I have just I look, I'm just not here for like tons of fat
- 26:18jokes, you guys know, And that's kind of been all we are getting
- 26:23from us up story, but it may change. So that's that's the deal
- 26:30with the rest of this episode, because it's all just Brooks and you know,
- 26:36that whole thing until we get to like the very end where Boa is
- 26:41talking to Raley and demanding basically like not demanding that he repeat himself, but
- 26:52demanding that he explained himself. Because reminder, we ended the last section with
- 26:59Raleigh telling Loufy something and we don't hear what it is, so he's giving
- 27:03him advice, and when we start this one and come back to it,
- 27:07everybody has already heard the advice he's given, but they're outraged by it,
- 27:11and it turns out he is advising Loofy to go back to Marine Ford,
- 27:19and he's like puzzling over this because of his friends. He's like, I
- 27:26don't want my friends to go through something like that again. So if I
- 27:32do like you'd tell me to, will it help me protect them? And
- 27:36Raley says, no promises, but it's certainly worth a shot. That said,
- 27:41you do realize you have a lot of work to do, and Lufy
- 27:48says, Okay, I've made up my mind. I'm going back to Marine
- 27:52Ford if that's what you think I should do. The next episode is most
- 28:00concerning everybody finding out that he has gone back to Marine Ford, but not
- 28:06actually knowing why, and we don't get told why. We're just seeing everybody
- 28:12kind of being like, what the fuck is he doing? Except for Robin.
- 28:17Robin is the only one that seems like to understand what it is that
- 28:22Rayley is planning. She has the most understated reaction, and she actually kind
- 28:27of smiles, whereas almost everybody else that we see is like, are you
- 28:33fucking kidding me? And that feels right to me. Robin always just seems
- 28:40like she's a step ahead of everybody else in the crew. You know,
- 28:44she just always kinda look, I'm just gonna say it, as much as
- 28:49I don't find Robin to be that interesting a character at this point to watch,
- 28:52I think her backstory is interesting, I think all of that, but
- 28:56like, in practice, I don't find her that much fun. Despite all
- 29:03that, it will always feel to me like she's kind of slumming it with
- 29:07the straw hat pirates, Like she has other options she could pursue. She's
- 29:15smart enough and capable and competent enough, she could be doing a lot of
- 29:18other things, and she's here with them because she enjoys them, and so
- 29:23she's kind of like, you know, she's keeping company with people that need
- 29:30her a lot more than she needs them, is the way I'll say that.
- 29:36But Okay, so we have this opening for the next episode, a
- 29:42disaster for sangy Is. We get a bit of a surprise here because we
- 29:48hear somebody from a ship who's like telling the navy to open up the gates
- 29:53of justice. We're a naval ship five nine sixty three code number confirmed,
- 29:59blah blah blah, and these people who are opening up the gates for them
- 30:03to be let in don't realize that the crew has been completely tied up,
- 30:08and Lufy is here with Jimbey and is apparently like totally healed, and they
- 30:17are coming in. I don't know what they're planning on doing, but Raley's
- 30:23with them, and the guy who's like sort of in charge of this ship
- 30:30is very impressed and has no idea what it is thereafter either. He's just
- 30:34sort of like, my god, we've got some real badasses here. So
- 30:38we see them going in, but we don't actually find out any further what
- 30:42they're up to. So we check in with Chopper here, and you know,
- 30:49we basically get what had been hinted at last time, and that I
- 30:55wound up like Florian mentioned the birds, and I was like, oh,
- 30:57it takes the bird. That makes sense. That is what winds up happening.
- 31:03It's really funny, how loofy not loofy, how Chopper is unaware of
- 31:14the fact that he doesn't know where to go or how to get there until
- 31:18he begins walking away. I forget sometimes because Chopper is meant to be a
- 31:25doctor character, and I just assume that means he's smart. He's smart in
- 31:30like a certain way, but not in like a get things done, like
- 31:37in general sort of way. So he's over here just generally doing the broker
- 31:45ring of peace between the birds and the humans, reminding them to get along,
- 31:51and they give him some cotton candy as a gift. I have no
- 31:57idea how they make cotton candy here. It feels unlikely, but I do
- 32:06kind of enjoy that's his brand now. And they tell him like, anytime
- 32:12you want to come back, you're always welcome, and he gets real emotional
- 32:15about it. When I can, I promise I'll come back and visit,
- 32:19okay, And they give him a container full of like all of these different
- 32:28fruits as well, and the when he heads out, he stops realizes,
- 32:37I have no idea where I'm going, and then the bird the chick kind
- 32:43of like jumps in front of him and tells him, my father will fly
- 32:50you there. There is a moment when he's just noticed that he doesn't know
- 32:53where he's going, and it goes back to the people, the humans,
- 32:59and I do have my issues with the way they are being portrayed and voiced,
- 33:04but I could not help but laugh when one of the kids says,
- 33:08of Chopper, he big dummy. Yes, he is bless his heart,
- 33:15but he is big dummy. No arguing with that, So he gets on
- 33:22the back of this bird. We have some high jinks in the air as
- 33:27he's being thrown around and caught by the bird and almost throws up, and
- 33:32eventually he spots one of those birds that is like a pelican carrying the newspapers
- 33:39of the day. And this is when he comes across the information about Lufy
- 33:45and it is just like, wait, what is going on? Then we
- 33:49cut from him to the Snowy Bridge where Robin is. She's on one of
- 33:55those she's on a train, I think here, and we get a bit
- 34:02of a flashback where she's being released from her manacles along with all of these
- 34:07other people who were like rescued by the rebels. And uh, I can't
- 34:14remember this little girl's name, but she has drawn a picture of Robin and
- 34:20gave it to her as a sort of keepsake. It's the sort of thing
- 34:23that I think is really like when you step back and think about it,
- 34:27it's kind of funny. It makes sense. Especially it makes sense as a
- 34:31kid because like I remember doing this sort of thing as well, because I
- 34:35love to draw. But Soren is her name, that's right, But the
- 34:44idea of giving somebody a portrait of themselves, like when you're making it and
- 34:49you're like, I drew you. I'm giving this to you because I made
- 34:52it of you. That makes sense, but it is sort of funny out
- 34:57of context. If you like, visit somebody and they've just got drawings of
- 35:00themselves around, you know, there's just a funny vibe with that sometimes.
- 35:07And it was something that when I was doing a lot of drawing in college
- 35:10and in high school, we were like set to do self portraits, and
- 35:17I remember how odd it felt to just stare at myself in the mirror and
- 35:23then draw myself. It felt very like vain, even though that was not
- 35:29the point. So I just found this kind of funny. But yeah,
- 35:35Robin tells Sorn goodbye, and Soren says, are you going to be back?
- 35:43And Robin nods, doesn't say anything and doesn't give like a date,
- 35:49but she nods. So we'll see how that works out. I have to
- 35:52assume that, like some of these storylines feeling kind of unfinished, are going
- 35:58to come up again later with our friends, you know that they're going to
- 36:00get involved. So then we have oh my God Bunny Joe is the name
- 36:07of that guy Bunny Joe on Earth, and he is talking to Robin about
- 36:13where it is that she's headed, and he calls her the light of the
- 36:21revolution. You're the only survivor from O'Hara, the brave country that fought against
- 36:28the whole world, and now that we've finally found you, we will shield
- 36:32you from the government at all costs. Those are our boss's orders. And
- 36:38he explains to her that Dragon is the leader of the rebel army Lufy's dad,
- 36:45and she's just like, wow, wild the way that things overlap.
- 36:51He wants to introduce her to Dragon. He's like, let let me bring
- 36:55you over there myself in that way you know you, And she says,
- 37:00I can't. I have to return immediately. But a part of me really
- 37:07felt like that was not the move personally I would And I admit I don't
- 37:16have anything to really like base this on. This is the sort of thing
- 37:21that I would make assumptions and they might turn out to not be true,
- 37:23and I might have wasted my time and everybody else's. But I'm just gonna
- 37:30tell you how I would feel about it. If I'm trying to get back
- 37:32to Loofy really urgently, and I find out that the leader of this revolution
- 37:39is Loufy's dad. I am definitely going to speak to him to not only
- 37:45get me back to Loofy, but to involve him in whatever is going on
- 37:50with Lufy. With him going back to Marine Ford, I don't know if
- 37:54he would have any interest because the fact that Dragon has seemed to like not
- 38:00kept super close tabs on Lufy most of his life, I don't really know
- 38:07what to think about his attachment to his son. It's as if he didn't
- 38:14want Lufy to know he was his father. And maybe I'm wrong about that,
- 38:21but I just you know, there there's potential for if Robin were going
- 38:27to do what I just suggested, Dragon might not want anything to do with
- 38:32Lufy and would be like, look, i'll get you a sabaoti, but
- 38:35I'm not involved. I'm not you know, like, this is not my
- 38:37fight. I just think I would want to explore that avenue. It would
- 38:43just be the thing that I would leap to first. And when the fact
- 38:47that she like just immediately turns this guy down kind of surprised me, and
- 38:57she's like, I don't need you to look out for me. After all,
- 39:00I have my friends, and I'm like, girl, they're not here,
- 39:05Like you need somebody looking out for you. Look at what happened.
- 39:07You got captured and thrown into a prison, and some bad shit very nearly
- 39:14happened if it weren't for these folks showing up. They are your friends too,
- 39:17Now maybe include them in your little mental crew. That's all I'm saying.
- 39:27There was just a sense here for me of like her acting as if
- 39:35simply having faith in the straw hats would keep her afloat and safe. And
- 39:40I'm just like, in what practical sense has that ever happened? And it
- 39:45felt a little out of character for Robin herself, because she just is kind
- 39:52of practical. She seems to be somewhat pragmatic, so telling him like,
- 39:57Hey, I don't need you, I just need my friends who aren't here.
- 40:01And she says to him, your army seems to need me, and
- 40:07I would like to know why, And he says, between here and where
- 40:15you're going, you'll notice a lot of ghost towns because a lot of this
- 40:19country relocated when the construction was going on. That one there, for example,
- 40:23is from three hundred years ago. They kept building because the world nobles
- 40:30ordered it, but honestly, the reasons don't matter. That doesn't justify the
- 40:36deaths of those who've been enslaved here. It's all the same, and this
- 40:46storyline is sort of basically the point is, the nobles just want this bridge
- 40:53built because it would make traveling easier, and they don't care how many lives
- 40:59they have to sing in order to get it done right. So the thing
- 41:06that I feel is sort of missing a little bit is the presence of the
- 41:10nobles. We have the the armies punishing the people, but I don't know,
- 41:19there's something about this storyline being so serious and compared to in comparison to
- 41:24the others I've already said this that makes it stand out in such a way
- 41:28that I want it to hold together a little bit more. And it just
- 41:31feels like they're trying for something that isn't quite jelling. And it may just
- 41:36be that we need more info. I don't know, But uh, we
- 41:40have all of these guys like seeing the newspaper and the news about Loofy and
- 41:45bringing her that article so that she finds out like, oh good, he's
- 41:50safe. And there's a moment when she gasps as she continues reading, but
- 41:53then she smiles, and Bunny is just like, are you amused or upset?
- 42:02And she says both, and that's the end of what's going on with
- 42:07her interstitial and then we go to Soany. I have a question about what
- 42:20the deal is with this constant imagery of the wave washing up onto the beach
- 42:28and leaving shells, because I think it's supposed to be that the white one
- 42:35is Soany and when it washes up and there's a bunch of like yellow shells,
- 42:40those are supposed to be the other people on this island. And then
- 42:45eventually there's like a really large shell that's I believe supposed to symbolize Eva.
- 42:52But it's just sort of a strange. It's just odd, you know,
- 43:00like this isn't the sort of thing the show does all that often. There
- 43:04have been weird moments. I'm trying to remember, because I know that back
- 43:07when we were at us Up's Island. Was it a snail or a turtle
- 43:16or a front There was something that was like swimming in the bay area.
- 43:23Just our camera would constantly go back there to this one animal and it would
- 43:30be occasionally falling off a rock and back into the water and it was just
- 43:37a sort of bizarre visual thing they kept doing. And that's what's happening here
- 43:43with the shells washing up, and I don't really get what the deal is.
- 43:46I feel like maybe it's just a full time, to be honest,
- 43:50because there's not a lot going on here. Sanji is trying to explain that
- 43:58he wants to leave to Loofy, and basically the woon on this island are
- 44:05all just like, well, that's just a ploy for you to escape,
- 44:09which it's sort of at this point, after he has gone ahead and embraced
- 44:16the makeup and the dresses the way that he did for a while, it's
- 44:21sort of weird that they still want to keep holding him here, like why
- 44:27is it important to you? And he even says like, even if it
- 44:30is a ploy, I just want to leave, and they refuse to let
- 44:35him. And finally once Eva shows up, it's really I didn't even think
- 44:43about this, you guys, but when Sanji first meets Eva, she is
- 44:52in her female form, and you know, she's got this insane body with
- 44:59these fucking knockers, and he instantly has his like nosebleed thing, and he
- 45:06tells himself like she's a dude underneath all that hotness. Otherwise she wouldn't be
- 45:12on this island. So I'm not gonna fall for it. But he can't
- 45:16help it. Every time she talks to him and he opens his eyes and
- 45:20looks at her, he just gets these like heart eyes. Her boobs are
- 45:25a perfect ten and her butt's nice and tight two. And it's so funny
- 45:30when they do this because her boobs just like kind of bounce independent of her
- 45:35body and her butt like squeezes a little bit. And I was just like,
- 45:37what are we doing here, folks? But again, nosebleed, nosebleed,
- 45:44nosebleed. And finally it's just like, is there anything I can do
- 45:49for you? And he says, I've got a lot of questions for you,
- 45:52buddy, and the first one is are you single? Ah, I
- 45:57mean it's about loofy. I do find this really funny, to be honest,
- 46:07Oh god, this is just like this is one of those things where
- 46:10it's like we're really walking a tightrope here, because the whole like men who
- 46:16are attracted to trans women but have not come to terms with that is a
- 46:21really dangerous concept and something that has led to the deaths of lots of trans
- 46:27women. So it's like not a joke, but also it is a joke
- 46:32here in you know what I mean, Like it's just such a it's a
- 46:37real sticky subject here. And the idea that like men will sitis, men
- 46:49will act out in anger and violence towards trans women because of the fact that
- 46:55they are attracted to trans women and that fucks with them in some basic way
- 47:02with their idea of their own masculinity and everything. You would think that that
- 47:07would like open people's eyes to the fact that gender is just a construct and
- 47:12that if somebody just can like dress a certain way and suddenly you find them
- 47:16very attractive when you didn't before that it's all just it's all just kind of
- 47:22nonsense. You would think that you would see that, but that's not what
- 47:27happens, you know. Anyway, So when he asks about Loufy, finally,
- 47:37I wasn't expecting the response that he gets here, because what it turns
- 47:42out is going on is that Eva doesn't trust that Sangi actually is friends with
- 47:50Loufy, and so I thought it was just going to be like, oh
- 47:55my god, you're Soangy, Like yeah, I'll definitely reunite him with you
- 48:01whatever, that it was gonna be a helpful thing. But what it turns
- 48:06out to be is that Eva thinks Sanji is just somebody working for the world
- 48:13government who wants to find out where Lufy's hiding out and get the drop on
- 48:19him. And it never even entered my mind that she would think that.
- 48:24I'd never even thought that for a moment. And Eva keeps doing this thing
- 48:32I'm saying, she but she transforms back into her male form here uh,
- 48:38and is just like, yeah, how about no? And that's like there's
- 48:45the constant like, Oh, I'm gonna pretend that you've almost got me in
- 48:49this fight, but no, I'm gonna pretend that you've won me over and
- 48:52I'm gonna tell you everything but no, over and over again. And it
- 48:57was genuinely actually funny to me after point, because you see it coming,
- 49:02you know a lot of the time when it's happening, But because of how
- 49:08flamboyant the no is, the punking is, it's still very very much like
- 49:19the delivery makes the joke, do you know what I'm saying. So Eva
- 49:24pulls up all of these different posters, these wanted posters, and is seeing
- 49:31Sanji's response to all of them and asking whether or not he's friends with these
- 49:37people. When he sees Zorro and is asked if he's friends with him,
- 49:42he gets real mad. When he sees Namies, of course, his eyes
- 49:46bug out, are you familiar with the King of Sniper's picture here? And
- 49:50he just says yup, and there's like barely any response, And then is
- 49:54this one you? And he shows Sanji the weird cartoon verse, which Soanji
- 50:01insists isn't him, and Eva is saying, well, if you're not on
- 50:07any of these posters, then there's no evidence that you have any relationship with
- 50:13Lufy, So I'm not gonna tell you jack shit, And finally Sonji is
- 50:17like, okay, I'm just gonna admit it. Yeah, that is me.
- 50:22That poster is me. And Eva it's like he holds it up and
- 50:30is like, do you admit it, which makes it sound like Eva believes
- 50:36it's soanjy and is just waiting for him to cave. But when Sonji finally
- 50:40is like, yeah, okay, yeah it's me, Eva then says nope,
- 50:46no match. And I love the fact that she made him admit it.
- 50:51But then won't like give him the satisfaction, like that's just evil.
- 50:57It's very funny. Oh my god, it's so mean. So eventually the
- 51:07deal they come to is that Sanji is going to fight Eva for the pirate
- 51:15ship, and that if he beats Eva in this fight, he's gonna sail
- 51:20off in it, and that way he can get back to Sabaodi. And
- 51:27this whole like the way that the fight goes again with the joke that we've
- 51:35heard already, but it still works. I thought for sure he was going
- 51:40to like impress Eva, and Eva would be like, wait, maybe you
- 51:45do work with strawboy, because you know you're clearly very committed, or you
- 51:51have skills or whatever. But no, instead it's the I'm on the edge
- 51:58of death, you're so powerful and strong, and then of course the or
- 52:05not, and Eva just absolutely destroys Sanji. Like Sanji has he's using his
- 52:15red hot leg thing that he's got going on. So he's using some of
- 52:22his best moves, is my point, and it makes no impression. And
- 52:29Eva says, I dare say you could benefit from some discipline forty fourth esthetic
- 52:37technique hair removal fist, and we just see her like going in and the
- 52:45camera pulls back and we hear her yelling like death wink, hell wink,
- 52:54galaxy wink, and poor Sonji just ough, oh like just clearly getting the
- 53:01shit kicked out of him, and then the bell and Eva is standing over
- 53:07him, and Soanji is bloodied and bruised, his clothes are a shredded mess.
- 53:16They're like he's twitching basically, and Eva says, all right, mister
- 53:22curly browse, I'll give you an update on Strawboy. And when he says,
- 53:30wait, what made you change your mind? Eva says, oh please,
- 53:34there's no need to hide with the whole world knows anyway, and he
- 53:38throws down the newspaper that has the article about the fact that Lufy has gone
- 53:44back to Marine Ford and the facts that Eva has this paper and just beat
- 53:51the shit out of Lufy anyway or Sonji anyway. Just Eva, what are
- 53:58you? Why are you like this? What are you doing? What is
- 54:00this? It was honestly very funny though. So we then have Eva going
- 54:09and talking to what is it the Baltigo where Dragon is and Eva is saying,
- 54:20like, we're your men, upset about finding out that you had a
- 54:22son, and Dragon says they were actually happy to find out their mysterious boss
- 54:28didn't have a heart of stone after all. But it doesn't make any difference
- 54:34now because Lufy's not a kid anymore. But I was surprised to hear that
- 54:38you were with him, and Eva was just like, yeah, fucking coincidence.
- 54:44But Destiny's weird, what with that prison break In meeting your bundle of
- 54:50joy, I have to say I have questions for you, and Dragon says,
- 54:53I'm sure you do. The time has come for us to call our
- 54:57commanders from every corner of the world as quickly as poss possible. Now that
- 55:00white Beard is dead, the government, regime and the world situation are going
- 55:05to change. Not only that, but it occurs to me, I haven't
- 55:07gotten to tell you what happened to Kuma, and so you know, I'm
- 55:15sort of like thinking that my assessment of what Robin should have done was probably
- 55:22the right one. She should have gone a Dragon because this seems like he
- 55:27is involved and he wants to be part of everything, you know. And
- 55:31yeah, Eva, it's just like yeah about Kuma, Like I couldn't believe
- 55:36the fact that he was about to try and kill me working for the government
- 55:38was already quite terrible, but now they've got clones of him, Like,
- 55:43what the fuck is going on? And have you seen today's news? Strawboy
- 55:49has thrown me for a loop yet again. He's just as wild as his
- 55:52father. He seems to be relaying some kind of message, and we see
- 55:58just a real quick sh shot of Loofy standing with his eyes closed and his
- 56:05head sort of bowed, holding his straw hat over his chest, and in
- 56:12the background all of this smoke, the what looks to be sort of scaffolding
- 56:16like they're rebuilding Marine Ford and a bunch of marines with weapons raised behind him.
- 56:23And that's it. That's all we get, and it's the end of
- 56:27the episode. So I have no idea what it is he's trying to do.
- 56:32Like a part of me was like, is he attempting to sort of
- 56:36extend an olive branch? Like I don't see how that is possible, you
- 56:45know, Like the only thing that I could think was that it might have
- 56:49something to do with Garb, but it just maybe it's just that he's like
- 56:57hoping that if his friends get on Sabote, that if he makes enough of
- 57:01a spectacle of himself here that it will be a distraction, but like,
- 57:07there's got to be more to it than that. There has to be something
- 57:09that he's attempting to accomplish. I really don't know what it could be.
- 57:15Like, Yeah, I don't have any ideas. I really don't, so
- 57:22sorry about it, folks. Sometimes I come up with stuff and some days
- 57:27my brain is barely functioning, And this is one of those days. Florine
- 57:31isn't the chat saying loving this odin milks? That wanted poster jokes so hard?
- 57:38I honestly like that wanted poster has popped up a couple places for me
- 57:46recently, Like there's a I think I mentioned this place before, but there's
- 57:50an area near us that's got a lot of like Korean restaurants and also Korean
- 57:55like stationary store and a sort of Korean dollars store. It's more than a
- 58:00dollar, the way that our dollar stores are now more than a dollar,
- 58:02but that's that kind of vibe. And the stationary store has a bunch of
- 58:09like fandom stuff, And they had that Sandy wanted poster for like wal Art,
- 58:15and I was very tempted, but I just don't have any space on
- 58:20my walls right now to put anything, so it's just like where am I
- 58:22What am I gonna do with it? But uh yeah, it comes.
- 58:25It's very funny. Every time I see it. I laugh. All Right,
- 58:30guys, I'm gonna wrap up. Thank you guys so much for listening.
- 58:34Appreciate you all. I hope you're enjoying the coverage, And until next
- 58:37time to loom motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network podcast
