- 0:12Speaker 1: And Cole, if I told you going into the Kentucky-Oklahoma
- 0:15Speaker 1: game that one of these two teams would be ranked
- 0:18Speaker 1: in week seven, I assume we would have thought it
- 0:20Speaker 1: was Oklahoma.
- 0:22Speaker 2: No, the Heidenwald Steins would have absolutely been in terror.
- 0:24Speaker 2: They would have been just dominating everybody. I.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I believed that Will Stein was going to knock somebody off,
- 0:31Speaker 1: but I thought their schedule was tough. There was a
- 0:33Speaker 1: trip to South Carolina there, and I thought that would
- 0:36Speaker 1: be an even matchup.
- 0:37Speaker 3: It certainly was.
- 0:39Speaker 1: In looking at this, both teams with a good week
- 0:43Speaker 1: last week, both teams pulled upsets.
- 0:46Speaker 3: This one's really intriguing.
- 0:48Speaker 1: You've got a Kentucky team that's incredibly hot right now,
- 0:50Speaker 1: number 14 right now in the CFA Top 25 poll,
- 0:54Speaker 1: which you guys can go vote in. at CFATop25. com. It
- 0:58Speaker 1: is open until Thursday at noon Eastern. But Oklahoma not ranked,
- 1:03Speaker 1: coming off of a pretty magical performance in the Cotton Bowl.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Massive matchup this week.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Where is this game? Is this in Lexington?
- 1:14Speaker 2: This is in Norman, Oklahoma.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Norman, Oklahoma. So they get to go home after the
- 1:18Speaker 3: rivalry game. Let's talk about it a little bit.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Look, this is a really, really, really fun matchup for
- 1:24Speaker 2: a lot of different reasons. You got the defensive prowess
- 1:27Speaker 2: of Brent Venables coming off of a signature and much-needed
- 1:31Speaker 2: Red River shootout win against Texas. Going home and kind
- 1:35Speaker 2: of hitting reset on the season. Because even though they're
- 1:38Speaker 2: sitting at 3-2, they only have one conference loss. And
- 1:41Speaker 2: we know that teams that go 10-2 make the college
- 1:44Speaker 2: football playoff. We saw what happened last season with Oklahoma.
- 1:46Speaker 2: They faltered against Ole Miss. They faltered against Texas. And
- 1:50Speaker 2: then they went off and they rattled off some major
- 1:52Speaker 2: victories against Tennessee and Alabama and LSU. And they punched
- 1:55Speaker 2: their ticket to the college football playoff. And now with
- 1:58Speaker 2: what we saw from the defense, what we saw at
- 2:00Speaker 2: times from that offense. especially some throws that we witnessed
- 2:02Speaker 2: from John Mateer, this feels like an opportunity to where
- 2:05Speaker 2: they can get back on track. They can get back
- 2:07Speaker 2: into the rankings. They can start believing that while it
- 2:10Speaker 2: may not be as perfect of a season as we
- 2:12Speaker 2: thought it was going to be, everything that we can
- 2:14Speaker 2: do is still the best ahead of us because we
- 2:16Speaker 2: got that win and we found a way to win
- 2:18Speaker 2: in multiple facets in Red River, which again is a
- 2:20Speaker 2: game that nobody understands. It's like a one, it's a
- 2:25Speaker 2: four quarter season. Like that's, that's college football. So, Is
- 2:28Speaker 2: that the version of Oklahoma that now starts its new
- 2:30Speaker 2: season after the game? Or is the one that we
- 2:33Speaker 2: witnessed when they went to Ann Arbor that had struggles offensively,
- 2:36Speaker 2: that wasn't able to get anything really going, that John
- 2:38Speaker 2: Mateer threw a batting reception that led to short field
- 2:40Speaker 2: position for the Wolverines, the team that we saw in
- 2:42Speaker 2: Athens that watches Chris Cole took an easy fumble because
- 2:46Speaker 2: of who the hell was making that type of throw
- 2:48Speaker 2: and then running it back the other way. Is that
- 2:50Speaker 2: the version that we're going to get still? For Kentucky
- 2:53Speaker 2: in this game, Will Stein's called it an incredible game.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Will Stein has been the mastermind of setting up plays,
- 2:59Speaker 2: setting up drives, getting his team in really strong positions
- 3:02Speaker 2: with a balanced approach, knowing how to play with tempo,
- 3:04Speaker 2: knowing how to be able to find short reads, whether
- 3:07Speaker 2: it be to Willie Rodriguez or to Kenny Darby or
- 3:11Speaker 2: to one of his other receivers. Not afraid to take
- 3:13Speaker 2: the explosives over the top to some of the deep shots.
- 3:16Speaker 2: What breaks first in this game? Is it the veteranship
- 3:19Speaker 2: of a defense coordinator like BV that just falls for
- 3:22Speaker 2: the trap of leaning too much into the box to
- 3:25Speaker 2: try to go after Patterson, try to go after CJ Baxter,
- 3:28Speaker 2: take away the rushing attack, and therefore there goes Kenny
- 3:30Speaker 2: Darby or there goes a Nick Anderson down the field
- 3:32Speaker 2: for a gain of 20? Or is it we're going
- 3:35Speaker 2: to try to overcorrect ourselves and be the smart analytical
- 3:37Speaker 2: team like Will Stein, go for it on certain plays,
- 3:40Speaker 2: and you just get bullied up front by David Stone
- 3:42Speaker 2: in this front seven by Oklahoma? That's That, to me,
- 3:44Speaker 2: is the big selling point in this game. It's elite
- 3:47Speaker 2: offensive minds going up against definite defensive prowess level mentality
- 3:52Speaker 2: of meeting on a four-quarter football field for a game
- 3:55Speaker 2: that both these teams kind of need to win if
- 3:57Speaker 2: they want to make the playoff run. But right now,
- 3:59Speaker 2: just to keep the good times rolling and the storylines
- 4:01Speaker 2: of what we have seen in 2026 moving into week
- 4:03Speaker 2: seven or week eight.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I don't want to compare this, and I don't want
- 4:08Speaker 1: this to be called soft, but just like in the
- 4:10Speaker 1: strategy of a game, Will Stein is so smart. I
- 4:14Speaker 1: don't want to oversimplify Oklahoma, so feel free to correct me.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Oklahoma fans don't, don't jump down my throat with this, but.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Like, is there a strategy that could be effective of
- 4:24Speaker 1: Kentucky in being a little more conservative and saying, we're
- 4:28Speaker 1: not going to let you score 17 points off of
- 4:30Speaker 1: our mistakes. Like Texas did last week. Like we're not
- 4:33Speaker 1: just going so vanilla and boring, but like, we're going
- 4:36Speaker 1: to play back a little bit and try to let
- 4:38Speaker 1: my tear go two straight games without a massive mistake.
- 4:41Speaker 3: And if he could do that, then great. You'll beat us.
- 4:44Speaker 1: But we kind of want to make sure that we're
- 4:46Speaker 1: not doing what Arch Manning did in giving the game away.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I don't think that he just comes out as insanely vanilla,
- 4:53Speaker 1: but it's a defense that can go score by itself,
- 4:57Speaker 1: can make things happen, and can turn a game completely
- 4:59Speaker 1: upside down. Texas beat Oklahoma on a down-to-down basis. They
- 5:03Speaker 1: gave away 17 points in this game. And if you're
- 5:06Speaker 1: Kentucky is a warning sign to say, yeah, we're not
- 5:09Speaker 1: going to do that. We're not going to put the
- 5:11Speaker 1: ball in harm's way and we're going to let them
- 5:14Speaker 1: lose it before we go out and lose it.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Playing with tempo is really important here. Like you
- 5:18Speaker 2: don't need to rush up to the line of scrimmage.
- 5:20Speaker 2: If not, everybody is prepared. Like this is one of
- 5:22Speaker 2: those games to where being methodically slow and watching as
- 5:25Speaker 2: the clock goes from 40 down to 15 before you
- 5:28Speaker 2: actually decide to line on up and you're in the huddle,
- 5:30Speaker 2: maybe it's a smart ploy. Because the more time that
- 5:33Speaker 2: you're taking off of the clock in favor of your
- 5:35Speaker 2: offense being on the field, it's the less time that
- 5:37Speaker 2: John Mateer has to work with. And John Mateer's brain
- 5:39Speaker 2: is already going to be working in hyper-level mode because
- 5:42Speaker 2: of what you saw last week where you have to
- 5:44Speaker 2: make some critical throws and you have to be able
- 5:46Speaker 2: to get some shots into position to susceptible Sandell. But
- 5:49Speaker 2: you can't afford to give short field position. I mean,
- 5:51Speaker 2: Texas in itself, what would it be? 17 points came
- 5:56Speaker 2: off of short field position in some capacity, whether it
- 5:58Speaker 2: was a Peyton Bowen pick six, a block punt in
- 6:02Speaker 2: the end zone, or a interception by Cortland Guillory right
- 6:05Speaker 2: at midfield to get closer for Tate Sandell's field goal range.
- 6:09Speaker 2: That's something that Kentucky can avoid in this, and that's
- 6:11Speaker 2: by making sure that you play with some tempo, making
- 6:13Speaker 2: sure that you realize, hey, We can run it on
- 6:15Speaker 2: this drive four or five times. If the rushing attack
- 6:17Speaker 2: is really working for us, continue to hand off to Baxter.
- 6:20Speaker 2: If it's a third and one, maybe go to the
- 6:22Speaker 2: outside with a run to Kenny Minchey, and he just
- 6:24Speaker 2: dives forward to get the first down. And then, once
- 6:27Speaker 2: you tire down that defense, then you can maybe take
- 6:29Speaker 2: a few shots if you want to, to go ahead
- 6:31Speaker 2: and find a Kenny Darby, or find a Willie Rodriguez,
- 6:34Speaker 2: or find a Henry Boyer.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Hey, guys, do me a favor.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I'll get right back to chatting with Jake, but go
- 6:38Speaker 1: on over to CFATop25. com. You can vote in our new poll.
- 6:43Speaker 1: We've got a media section for this. Jake has voted
- 6:46Speaker 1: in it for this week. We've got a fan section
- 6:48Speaker 1: for this, so literally anybody can go in and submit
- 6:51Speaker 1: a poll. We also have a media versus fans thing,
- 6:55Speaker 1: so you can see how the media did versus how
- 6:57Speaker 1: the fans did.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Ray, react.
- 6:59Speaker 1: You can go to people's Twitters and give them heck
- 7:01Speaker 1: for everything they're saying about your team or their team
- 7:04Speaker 1: and where they're ranking them.
- 7:05Speaker 3: But go check out CFATop25. com.
- 7:08Speaker 2: But the other thing is, you don't have to rush
- 7:10Speaker 2: through anything. Like, the thing about Will Stein's offense that
- 7:12Speaker 2: I love and appreciate is he plays with tempo. Like,
- 7:15Speaker 2: he understands, hey, the defense is not prepared. I am prepared.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Get to the line of scrimmage as quickly as possible.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Go ahead and catch them while they're slipping. Well, this
- 7:23Speaker 2: is one of those defenses that feels like it's always prepared.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Like it's like the mom that packed too much to
- 7:28Speaker 2: go on a beach trip. Like that's what it is.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I have everything that you could ever buy. I brought
- 7:32Speaker 2: the house and I took out a second mortgage to
- 7:34Speaker 2: pay for the plane to get here. Like that's Oklahoma's defense.
- 7:37Speaker 2: They're always prepared. So you don't need to rush the
- 7:39Speaker 2: line of scrimmage. The clock isn't going anywhere if it's
- 7:41Speaker 2: a drop ball. So why not just go ahead, get
- 7:44Speaker 2: set on up, try to see if you can catch
- 7:47Speaker 2: Oklahoma waiting to call an audible to where you can
- 7:49Speaker 2: call an audible and And then be able to finally
- 7:51Speaker 2: make a play that is more promising for you. That,
- 7:54Speaker 2: to me, I think is really, really important in this
- 7:56Speaker 2: game if you're in Kentucky. Because the lower scoring it is,
- 8:00Speaker 2: it definitely, I think, leans in favor of Oklahoma. But
- 8:03Speaker 2: just because it's low scoring, like tell me it's 10-3.
- 8:05Speaker 2: That's a fine score. Well, it's still 10 more points
- 8:09Speaker 2: than what Oklahoma has. Or 7 more points than what
- 8:12Speaker 2: Oklahoma has. So you still found a way to outscore them.
- 8:15Speaker 2: But if it becomes a game where you can keep this,
- 8:18Speaker 2: where here comes Oklahoma's offense and they got to take
- 8:21Speaker 2: the field, that still is 118th in rushing, that still
- 8:24Speaker 2: struggles on third down completions, that doesn't have a secondary
- 8:27Speaker 2: wide receiver that can really make plays outside of Satanga,
- 8:30Speaker 2: does not have a tight end that can really be
- 8:32Speaker 2: able to get on open the way that Rocky Beers does.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Nobody else. You're still not getting Parker Livingston involved. You
- 8:37Speaker 2: kind of need your Kentucky's defense able to play with
- 8:39Speaker 2: house money where, yeah, you may give up an explosive,
- 8:41Speaker 2: but they still have to find a way to score.
- 8:44Speaker 2: You can do the exact same thing, but just control
- 8:45Speaker 2: it and go, let's take eight minutes off the clock.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Let's take seven and a half minutes off the clock.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Let's just get in a field goal range. Easier said
- 8:53Speaker 2: than done after the two missed field goals that we
- 8:54Speaker 2: saw in Lexington last week. But still, let's just get
- 8:57Speaker 2: in a range to where we can get points off
- 8:58Speaker 2: of this. Because I think in some capacity, Oklahoma could
- 9:01Speaker 2: be playing with that mindset.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Can Mateer continue, you know, is this the first game,
- 9:07Speaker 1: first power four game? Like he didn't have a turnover.
- 9:10Speaker 3: On Saturday.
- 9:12Speaker 1: How vital is that? Like, is that, is that the most, we,
- 9:17Speaker 1: we had this debate in the red river. Is that
- 9:21Speaker 1: the most vital part of this game? Is it him
- 9:24Speaker 1: continuing to play clean with the football? Because if they
- 9:26Speaker 1: do those back shoulder, shoulder throws to Satanga on the
- 9:29Speaker 1: last drive, like they've got weapons and they can score,
- 9:32Speaker 1: you know, I don't think they can score 30 points
- 9:35Speaker 1: in this game by any means, but without assist from
- 9:38Speaker 1: the special teams and defense, but taking care of the
- 9:40Speaker 1: ball again, if, if, if my idea for Kentucky is
- 9:44Speaker 1: let them mess up, not us, then my idea for
- 9:46Speaker 1: Oklahoma is don't mess up.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Like don't, don't have those critical turnovers thoughts on.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Material coming out of that game and the way that
- 9:55Speaker 1: that offense played, can that be a little more sustainable
- 9:58Speaker 1: against a defense that no shots.
- 10:00Speaker 3: In Kentucky certainly isn't Texas's front.
- 10:03Speaker 2: No, I mean like, let's be real. It was the
- 10:05Speaker 2: fewest amount of passing yards he has had in a
- 10:07Speaker 2: game all season, but it's also the one game against
- 10:10Speaker 2: a powerful opponent. He has not a turnover. And so
- 10:13Speaker 2: maybe just, just maybe the best course of action is
- 10:17Speaker 2: less is more. The problem with that is that John
- 10:19Speaker 2: Mateer can't be less for your team. And again, this
- 10:23Speaker 2: is where I defend John Mateer without really defending John Mateer.
- 10:27Speaker 2: John Mateer is not a great college football quarterback. John
- 10:30Speaker 2: Mateer is not a great quarterback in my opinion. He
- 10:31Speaker 2: is a very limited quarterback that has certain things to
- 10:34Speaker 2: his game that are major assets to helping you improve.
- 10:38Speaker 2: He also does not have a great offensive line. He
- 10:41Speaker 2: also does not have a sufficient run game. He has
- 10:44Speaker 2: one wide receiver and one tight end to work with.
- 10:46Speaker 2: and an offense coordinator that does not know how to
- 10:48Speaker 2: game plan properly. So, like, even though he is limited,
- 10:51Speaker 2: the limitations that he has is not being brought up
- 10:54Speaker 2: to the same light that you need it to be
- 10:57Speaker 2: because of all the rest of the supporting cast around
- 10:59Speaker 2: him can't hold up their end of the bargain. It's, it's,
- 11:02Speaker 2: our John Mateer is like a perfect example of Texas
- 11:05Speaker 2: A & M was 11-1 last year and didn't belong
- 11:06Speaker 2: in the college football playoff. Yeah, you knew they weren't
- 11:09Speaker 2: that great. You knew that they only got in because
- 11:11Speaker 2: of the way the schedule panned on out. But it's
- 11:13Speaker 2: not their fault that the other teams didn't hold up
- 11:16Speaker 2: their end of the bargain. Oklahoma's, I mean, Oklahoma's, all
- 11:19Speaker 2: the teams on Texas A & M' s schedule, and John
- 11:21Speaker 2: Mateer is at Texas A & M. He can only
- 11:24Speaker 2: do so much. He knows what his limitations are. But
- 11:27Speaker 2: I think that you saw in that game, good concise throws,
- 11:31Speaker 2: easy dink and dunks, take what's given to you, when
- 11:34Speaker 2: things go awry, tuck and run, pick up something with
- 11:38Speaker 2: your legs. Because again, he rushed for negative six yards,
- 11:42Speaker 2: but he really didn't rush for negative six yards. That's
- 11:44Speaker 2: with sacks. So it's like, he can do enough to
- 11:48Speaker 2: be able to keep drives alive. You just need him
- 11:51Speaker 2: to be able to play with a balanced, more consistent
- 11:53Speaker 2: approach of, let's just go ahead and find the open
- 11:56Speaker 2: target and move the six down the field. Like if
- 11:59Speaker 2: I'm Ben Arbuckle, what my game plan is in this
- 12:02Speaker 2: game is to slowly cut and nick and pick apart
- 12:06Speaker 2: Kentucky's defense and play like a game plan of death
- 12:10Speaker 2: by a thousand paper cuts. I would much rather have
- 12:14Speaker 2: Jay Bateman covered with a thousand little like here and
- 12:17Speaker 2: there because we're just able to do the very minimal
- 12:20Speaker 2: to move the ball and to get in the range
- 12:22Speaker 2: for either a touchdown or for a field goal. Then
- 12:25Speaker 2: try to get that big haymaker explosive for like an
- 12:27Speaker 2: Isaiah Satanga 42. And by the way, those things will happen.
- 12:30Speaker 2: You know, if a defensive back for Kentucky ends up slipping, okay,
- 12:33Speaker 2: there's an open receiver. He's going off to the races.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Maybe that's how you find a way to get the
- 12:37Speaker 2: explosive play going. But it's not coming off of the, oh,
- 12:40Speaker 2: I'm going to throw it 45 yards downfield. You're going
- 12:44Speaker 2: to be winning with a lot of short to intermediate
- 12:46Speaker 2: stuff and hoping that your receivers can make plays in space, which,
- 12:48Speaker 2: by the way, last week they did. I mean, there
- 12:50Speaker 2: was great coverage at times by Texas' defense, and Satanga
- 12:54Speaker 2: still found a way to catch the ball. So massive
- 12:56Speaker 2: win in that standpoint. And also just a reminder, and
- 12:59Speaker 2: not to be facetious, Oklahoma fans, but it is funny.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Just scream really loud if you see Isaias Tenga break
- 13:04Speaker 2: out open because apparently he's going to be listening to
- 13:06Speaker 2: a behind-the-line discrimination knowing that he's opened downfield somewhere. So
- 13:09Speaker 2: maybe just have that happen.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Six and a half is the spread on this one
- 13:14Speaker 1: over under 43 and a half points. I think I
- 13:19Speaker 1: like Kentucky to keep this rolling. Like, I know it's
- 13:23Speaker 1: going to be different. I am very intrigued to see
- 13:25Speaker 1: how both teams handle the success of last week.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Sure.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Both massive upsets. I, you know, differing levels. One team
- 13:32Speaker 3: was at home.
- 13:33Speaker 1: One was in a neutral site, but they were both,
- 13:35Speaker 1: they were both what a touchdown dog roughly. I think
- 13:38Speaker 1: LSU was about five and a half, six and a half,
- 13:40Speaker 1: seven points. And I know that Oklahoma was a seven
- 13:44Speaker 1: and a half, eight point dog. So you're talking to
- 13:45Speaker 1: like a touchdown dog for both of them. Um, I
- 13:50Speaker 1: kind of like Kentucky to keep it rolling, and maybe
- 13:53Speaker 1: that's just if I pick against Oklahoma, they'll win, so
- 13:55Speaker 1: their fans can take some solace in that. I want
- 13:58Speaker 1: to see Mateer and this offense do a little bit more. Again,
- 14:05Speaker 1: it's the Breaking Bad meme of they can't keep getting
- 14:07Speaker 1: away with this, where their defense and special teams basically
- 14:09Speaker 1: score 17 points for them, and that's how they win games.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Somehow they keep doing that, so maybe I just need
- 14:15Speaker 1: to stop being an idiot and trust it. I'm taking
- 14:19Speaker 1: Kentucky on the money line here. I think there's good
- 14:21Speaker 1: value in that. There's the opportunity that Mateer throws a
- 14:23Speaker 1: couple of them up to Kentucky, and that's kind of
- 14:26Speaker 1: the difference in this game. Honestly, whichever team I think
- 14:29Speaker 1: handles the success of last week better and starts this
- 14:33Speaker 1: game well is probably going to be the one to
- 14:35Speaker 1: win it. I don't know that either team is built
- 14:37Speaker 1: incredibly to come back. I think it's very hard to
- 14:40Speaker 1: come back against this Oklahoma defense, if you're down multiple scores,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think it's very hard to imagine that Oklahoma's offense
- 14:46Speaker 1: can do enough if they get down multiple scores. So
- 14:49Speaker 1: I'm going to lean Kentucky here. But again, that's a,
- 14:53Speaker 1: it's a wide, what we've seen in the sec this
- 14:54Speaker 1: year is teams that have big wins come out the
- 14:58Speaker 1: next week and.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Don't look very good.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Whether that's Florida, whether that's a business, we stay, whether
- 15:03Speaker 1: that's LSU, whether that's Ole miss, like it just continues
- 15:07Speaker 1: to happen, you know, week after week after week. So it's,
- 15:10Speaker 1: we got to break that trend somehow. So two teams
- 15:12Speaker 1: that got big upsets last week, somebody is going to
- 15:14Speaker 1: come out the winter here. I'll ride Kentucky, but not
- 15:16Speaker 1: a lot of confidence. I know it's, it's a tough,
- 15:19Speaker 1: tough ass to go into Norman and do it, but
- 15:21Speaker 1: I'm doing it. I'm doing it.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Where are you going?
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah. You also said that it's about these teams that
- 15:26Speaker 2: they get these massive wins, you know, massive upset wins.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Then they have the letdown moment. Well, the trend with
- 15:31Speaker 2: all those letdown moments, TJ is it's on the road.
- 15:34Speaker 2: So honestly, that leans more so in favor of Oklahoma. Um,
- 15:38Speaker 2: For me personally, regardless, take Kentucky with the money line.
- 15:40Speaker 2: If you're going to go ahead and look at this line, 6.5, 7.5,
- 15:44Speaker 2: far too much. And I get it. Home field, Memorial Stadium, Norman,
- 15:48Speaker 2: night game. I understand it. You can't convince me that
- 15:52Speaker 2: there is a touchdown favorite with the way that Oklahoma's
- 15:54Speaker 2: offense is built right now. Agreed. You simply can't. So
- 15:57Speaker 2: I would take Kentucky with the points no matter what.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I agree with you on the main point. If you
- 16:02Speaker 2: are either Oklahoma or Kentucky, especially if you're Kentucky, I
- 16:06Speaker 2: don't think that you can be down 17-0 and find
- 16:08Speaker 2: a way to come back in this game. There's just
- 16:10Speaker 2: no way. The way that Brent Medables' defense plays, the
- 16:13Speaker 2: way that their front seven is able to get after quarterbacks,
- 16:16Speaker 2: I think is going to be a recipe for disaster
- 16:18Speaker 2: for Kenny Minshew on the road. So the same would
- 16:21Speaker 2: go for Oklahoma if you allowed your defense to give
- 16:24Speaker 2: up those explosives to Kenny Darby, to Willie Rodriguez, it's
- 16:26Speaker 2: a big CJ Baxter run for a 42-yard touchdown, and
- 16:30Speaker 2: now it's 20-0 going into the final three minutes of
- 16:32Speaker 2: the second quarter. Even if your defense does get a
- 16:35Speaker 2: pick six or a big special team stop or something
- 16:37Speaker 2: like that, your offense still has to put up points.
- 16:40Speaker 2: And in that matchup last week of Red River, you
- 16:43Speaker 2: were so codependent on your defense and special teams getting
- 16:47Speaker 2: you set up to score points and careless penalties as
- 16:50Speaker 2: well because Texas gave up those two major penalties that
- 16:52Speaker 2: set up the Avant touchdown in the game. It's very
- 16:55Speaker 2: hard to think that this offense, if trailing by three scores,
- 16:58Speaker 2: is going to be able to find a way to
- 16:59Speaker 2: come back in. I see a scenario where Kenny Minchie
- 17:02Speaker 2: throws a really bad pick six to open up the game.
- 17:06Speaker 2: But then the rest of the way, it is just Kentucky.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I'm riding with the Wildcats. I think there's a lot
- 17:10Speaker 2: of special things brewing right now in Lexington. Credit where
- 17:13Speaker 2: credit's due. Everyone talked about how Will Stein, first year
- 17:16Speaker 2: head coach, never been a recruiter at the highest level.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Only he's coming back here because of his loyalty to
- 17:23Speaker 2: the state of Kentucky. He's building something really promising out
- 17:26Speaker 2: in Lexington. And maybe they won't be a playoff threat.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Maybe two weeks from now we'll be talking about them
- 17:30Speaker 2: as back-to-back losses and this is where the other shoe dropped.
- 17:33Speaker 2: But I think the way that the offense looks, the
- 17:35Speaker 2: way the defense has been playing, the way that you
- 17:38Speaker 2: have a coach that's not afraid to gamble for it,
- 17:40Speaker 2: and I think that's a major difference in this game,
- 17:42Speaker 2: is that you have one coach that's not afraid to
- 17:43Speaker 2: go ahead and drop all of his cards and say,
- 17:45Speaker 2: hit me. Like, that I think is going to pull away.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I'll go Kentucky in this one. Very, very, very low-scoring game.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I think we're talking like 20-14. just enough to get
- 17:56Speaker 2: the job done in the first quarter, and maybe you
- 17:58Speaker 2: just kind of have a back-and-forth defensive bout and take
- 18:01Speaker 2: a lot of credit for what is Brent Mendelsohn's defense
- 18:03Speaker 2: that realizes it's still being wasted by a mediocre offense.
