Latest / Harder Than Life / 4 Simple Ways to SHIFT Your Mindset for Success
Transcript
- 0:00You don't get what you want, you get what you are. Because every day tries to break me, and I refuse to let it. You're one decision away from a completely different life. Train your mind to believe, I can do hard things. Every breath is a chance to reset. Inhale peace, exhale pressure. Don't just work out your body, work out your character. When life hits hard, gratitude keeps you standing. Doesn't change the situation,
- 0:31changes the storytelling. Gratitude is the bridge between who you are and who you're becoming. You won't just survive 2026, you own it. I'm Kelly Siegel and this is Harder Than Life, where we face truth head-on, where we turn pain into power, and we build a life so strong that nothing can break it. Today we're not talking
- 1:00We're going to talk about alignment. We're talking about how to transform your mind so you can dominate 2026 with peace and purpose. I said money doesn't make you happy. Happiness makes you money because a calm, focused, grateful mind attracts opportunities like a magnet. Most people are chasing success from the outside in, but the real game is inside out. When you master your mind, your body and bank account follow.
- 1:31I've learned this the hard way. There was a time when I had it all, cars, cash, and a company on fire. But inside I was burning down. Then I found the four rituals that changed everything. They made me happier, sharper, and more disciplined than I ever thought possible. These four habits aren't tricks. They're tools for freedom. Do them daily.
- 1:58You won't just survive 2026. You'll own it. First ritual, and I know you're waiting, is physical training. Surprise, surprise. Because when you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you do good. Your body is the gateway to your mind. If you're sluggish and foggy, your decisions will be too. If you're fit and focused, you think clearer and move faster.
- 2:27I've been lifting for over three decades, 30 years of iron and discipline. People ask, Kelly, why are you so consistent? Because the gym is my daily proof that I can keep promise to myself and every rep is a vote for confidence. Every sweat drop is evidence of discipline and discipline equals freedom. Ed Milet once said,
- 2:57You don't get what you want. You get what you are. So become a person of action. When you train your body, you signal your mind that you're in control. You say, I run this show and not my excuses. I remember a morning in 2020. It was dark, cold, and snowing in Detroit. The world was locked down. I had every reason to stay in bed. But I got up anyway, laced up my shoes,
- 3:26Hit the weights in my garage because the gyms were closed. That one choice set the tone for the next four years. While others were drinking and scrolling, I was sweating and building. When the world opened back up, I was stronger than ever. Mentally, physically, and spiritually. So I want you to make your body your priority. It's not about vanity. It's about vitality.
- 3:54When you train, you teach your mind to push through resistance. And that lesson transfers to every part of your life. Hit the gym. Go for a run. Do push-ups in your office. I don't care. Just move. Movement is medicine. Motion creates emotion. When you move your body, you change your state.
- 4:21Your friend Mel Robbins says you're one decision away from a completely different life. That decision could be to stand up right now and move. Physical training teaches you three things. Discipline, patience, and confidence. Discipline because you show up even when you don't feel like it. Patience because growth takes time. Confidence because you earn respect from yourself.
- 4:50I don't care if you lift, swim, cycle, or dance. Just sweat daily. Make it a non-negotiable. You'll notice something after a few weeks. You'll walk different. You'll walk a little bit taller. You'll talk different. Be a little bit more confident. People will feel your energy before you speak. Because physical training doesn't just build muscle. It builds magnetism. It raises your frequency.
- 5:20And here's the bonus. When you take care of your body, you'll naturally eat better, sleep better, and think better. That's why I always say your body is the foundation of your business and your peace. At National Technology Management, our team knows my rule. When you feel off, go move. Five minutes of motion beats five hours of misery. Even if it's just a walk around our building, you'll see us all doing it.
- 5:49You want clarity? Do a set of pushups. We once did a pushup challenge with our clients. That was fun. They actually destroyed us. Bunch of IT geeks doing pushups. That was fun. You want patience? Hold a plank for a minute. Ooh. You want confidence? Finish that last rep you wanted to quit on. Because how you do anything is how you do everything. Your physical training is a mirror to your mind.
- 6:19If you cut corners in the gym, you'll cut corners in life. If you push through pain in the gym, you'll push through pressure in life. So when you step into that gym, into that walk or onto that mat, don't just work out your body, work out your character. I remember one day my daughter Ari asked, dad, why do you work out every day? I told her because every day tries to break me.
- 6:49And I refused to let it. She smiled and said, I don't want to be strong too. That's why this matters. You're not just building yourself. You're building an example. When people see you taking care of you, they get permission to take care of themselves. So make movement your anchor. Start small if you must, but start today. Because when you train your body daily, you train your mind to believe.
- 7:18I can do hard things. When that belief takes fruit, everything changes. All right, that's ritual number one, physical training. Now that your body's awake, it's time to train the most powerful muscle of all, your mind. And my seagull mind is something else. I'm going to be real with you. If your body is the engine, your mind is the steering wheel. You can have the biggest engine,
- 7:46But if your steering wheel shakes, you're going nowhere. You're going to veer off course. That's why I meditate every day. That's how I tighten the bolts in my mind. Meditation isn't about being perfect or peaceful. It's about creating space between chaos and choice. I used to think meditation was for monks. Now I know it's for warriors, for CEOs, for parents, for
- 8:14or anyone who wants control of their own head. Every morning before the noise starts, I sit still for 10 minutes. No phone, no music, no notifications, just me and my breath. At first, my thoughts fought me. They said, Kelly, you should be working. You should be off to the gym. You're wasting your time. But that's exactly why I needed it. Meditation shows you how loud
- 8:44Your mind actually is. The moment you realize that, you can start turning the volume down. When I started this practice during the lockdown, I was running two companies and fighting fear. The silence scared me more than the noise. But I sat there anyway. Two minutes felt like an hour. My leg twitched. My brain screamed. My mind and my thoughts were all over. But I stayed. Because I'd learned in the gyms.
- 9:12that the last few reps build the muscle. The harder it is, the better it is for you. And the same rules applies to the mind. After a week, I could breathe deeper. After a month, I was calmer in meetings. After a year, my whole company noticed the difference. People said, Kelly, you seem lighter. I wasn't lighter, I was clearer. That's what meditation gives you, clarity.
- 9:41The ability to see the storm coming and stay dry inside your mind. I call it pruning my thoughts. Like trimming branches on a tree. Cut away what doesn't serve me. Every breath is a chance to reset. Inhale peace. Exhale pressure. Some days meditation is easy. Other days it's a battle. Both days count. The wind is showing up.
- 10:10Because when you show up for silence, you can show up for anything. Here's the trick that helped me stick with it. I stopped trying to empty my mind. Instead, I watched it like clouds passing in the sky. Some were dark, some were light. All of them moved on. When you realize thoughts are temporary, you stop believing every one of them. A bad thought doesn't mean a bad day.
- 10:38It means you have a chance to choose again. Meditation trains you for the sacred pause, that three second window between reaction and response, or should I say trigger and response. It's a difference between chaos and composure. I've used that pause in boardrooms and arguments and parenting. It's saved relationship, saved deals, saved me.
- 11:05Sad guru says you don't have to believe everything you think. That's meditation in one line. 10 minutes of stillness gives you 24 hours of stability. People tell me, Kelly, I can't sit that sit still that long. Good. Start with a minute, then two, then five.
- 11:30Consistency beats intensity or duration all day long. You don't lift 400 pounds your first day at the gym. You start with what you can handle. Same with silence, start small, grow strong. And when I travel, I meditate on planes. When I'm in traffic, I turn off the radio and I breathe.
- 11:58When I'm overwhelmed, I step outside and look at the sky. Meditation isn't confined to a cushion. It's a lifestyle. It's in the quiet before a meeting. It's in the breath before you speak. It's in choosing peace over panic. My daughter Ari sees me meditating and she's asked me all the time, why are you sleeping, dad? I smiled and said, no, honey, I'm listening.
- 12:28She said, to what? I said, to everything that matters. That's what meditation does. It teaches you to listen again. When you meditate daily, you start hearing your intuition, your soul, so much louder than any insecurity. You stop reacting to life and start responding with purpose. It doesn't mean bad days disappear. It doesn't mean bad days disappear.
- 12:57It means they don't own you. And if you run a business or a family, that calm energy spreads like wildfire because your peace becomes contagious. I've watched entire teams settle down just because I walked into a room centered and calm. That's leadership energy. That's presence. You don't get that from caffeine. You get it from stillness. Here's how you can start today.
- 13:26Set a timer for 10 minutes. Sit somewhere where you won't be disturbed. Now remember, I have animals, so they are always coming up for love. So make sure that your animals are put away as well. Close your eyes. Breathe in through your nose for four counts. Hold for four. And then exhale for four. Do that again and again when your mind drifts.
- 13:57That's actually called box breathing. And that's when I'm really overwhelmed. But when your mind drifts, say thinking and come back to your breath. That's it. It's simple. It's not easy. It's powerful, not complicated. And if you want an additional tool, I use the daily call map or search 10-minute guided meditation on YouTube or anywhere.
- 14:23But remember, the real teacher is just the silence itself and the consistency. Meditation turns confusion into clarity. It turns stress into strategy. And it turns fear into focus. You won't notice the change immediately. But your spouse will, your co-workers will, your kids will. And they'll feel the new energy around you. Because peace has weight. It walks into a room before you do.
- 14:52When you meditate, you become magnetic. Not because you're special, which you are, but because you're balanced. And people crave balance. Now I want to give you a simple mantra for you to practice. Every breath, say silent to yourself. Every breath, say silently to yourself, I am safe. I am strong. I am focused. I am free.
- 15:22have carried me through storms. Repeat them until you believe them. And remember your brain is a muscle. Meditation is how you train it. It's the mental gym. 500 workouts this year made my body strong. 365 meditations this year kept my spirit stronger. Together, they make me unstoppable, or should I say harder than life. And if you commit to this, you'll notice this same shift.
- 15:52You'll laugh more, worry less, speak slower, decide faster, because calm is a superpower. One last story before we move on. Last year, I had a deal fall apart at the 11th hour. Old Kelly would have punched a wall, thrown a computer, blamed everybody. New Kelly took three deep breaths, closed his eyes, and asked,
- 16:22What's the lesson here? Within an hour, a better opportunity showed up. That's not coincidence, man. That's clarity meeting timing. That's God's plan. When you're calm, you set the next door opening. When you're frantic, you close every door and you miss every opportunity completely.
- 16:44So here's your challenge for the next seven days. Meditate before you check your phone, before you scroll, before you speak. Start your day with silence. End it with gratitude. Do this for a week and your stress will shrink. Do it for a month and your confidence will grow. Do it for a year and your entire identity will grow.
- 17:13will evolve. Your shadow will be cast large. It's because meditation doesn't just change how you think. It changes who you are. If training shapes your body and meditation clears your mind, then reading fuels your growth. Reading is my secret weapon. And that's the third tip here. It's how I stay ahead of the curve. It's how I sharpen my edge. I don't read to escape.
- 17:43Every page I turn is another mentor in my corner. When I say read, I don't mean scrolling quotes on Instagram. I mean cracking open real books or listening to audiobooks feeding your brain high-octane fuel. Tony Robbins says leaders are readers, and it's true. Every successful person I know...
- 18:09has stacks of books, notes, and highlights because they understand something. Knowledge compounds faster than money. You can lose cash. You can lose a job. But you'll never lose what's in your mind. I started reading seriously when I realized I was repeating mistakes. Same frustrations. Different day. I needed new input to create new outcomes.
- 18:36So I made a rule, simple, small, easy rule. And I've said it a thousand times to all you Heart in Life Nation, 10 pages a day. Read 10 pages a day, no excuses. Doesn't sound like much, right? 10 pages. 10 pages a day is over 3000 pages a year. That's a dozen books. That's a new mindset every month.
- 19:02I call it invisible progress. You don't see it day by day, but one morning you'll wake up and realize you think differently. Reading rewires your brain for possibility. When I read the compound effect by Darren Hardy, it hit me. Small daily actions create massive results. When I read the gap in the game, I learned how to measure progress properly. And when I read buy back your time by Dan Martell,
- 19:29I learned to protect my energy. Each book adds another brick to the foundation of your mind. I read everything. Leadership, psychology, fitness, spirituality. Because life isn't one subject. It's a university with no graduation. If meditation prunes at the branches, reading grows new ones. A book can show you how someone climbed a mountain you're still staring at.
- 19:59That's why I share my reading list with the Heart of the Life Nation, because I want you learning with me, not behind me. And I'm paying all this forward and bringing you with me. I remember being on a flight to Phoenix. I had Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins in my lap. Halfway through, I realized I had no excuses left. If that man could conquer his mind, so could I. By the time we landed, I had written a whole new routine.
- 20:28That's the power of one book. Books are the cheapest mentors on earth. $20 for decades of wisdom. That's not an expense. That's a steal. That's an investment. I keep a notebook in my gym bag and in my truck. Actually, it's all on my phone now. When a line hits me, I write it down and I share it with you in my morning stories. So follow me on Instagram and check those out.
- 20:57Because repetition creates retention. Don't just read. Study. Underline. Highlight. Teach it to somebody. Talk about it. Teaching locks it in your soul. Reading also builds humility. The more I learn, the more I realize how little I do know. That humility keeps me hungry. Because growth is an arrogance. Growth is gratitude for knowledge.
- 21:28The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. That's why I'm always learning, always evolving, always curious. I'll learn it all if you will. I don't want to be the smartest man in the room. I want to be surrounded by books that make me smarter tomorrow. Reading also makes you a better communicator.
- 21:52When you feed your mind good words, you speak good words. Your vocabulary expands. Your empathy deepens and your creativity ignites. When I started reading regularly, my podcast improved overnight. My coaching got sharper. My leadership got calmer because the words I needed were already inside of me. Planted by the books I'd read. So here's your challenge.
- 22:23Just one. Commit to finishing it before the month ends. 10 pages a day. Read it like your life depends on it because your mindset does and it won't stop there. Next month, pick another. Start a list. Write the title and the big lesson.
- 22:44By the end of 2026, you'll have a personal library of transformation. If you're not sure where to start, message me on Instagram or send me an email, kelly at harderthanlife.com, and I'll send you some of mine. If you look behind me, I have books all behind me. I've read every single one of them.
- 23:02If you struggle though to focus, try audio books, listen in the gym, listen on long car rides or drives. People zone out with radio. That's another form of escapism. I'm not saying never listen to the radio, but if you're on a long drive, listen to an audio book. One that I always go back to is conversations with God. It's kind of wild out there. It's long, but I like listening to that. When I read it and then I listened to it. So, uh,
- 23:31Replace noise with nourishment instead of gossiping podcasts. Listen to greatness. I listened to Mel Robbins, Andy Frisella, John Maxwell, of course, Ed Milet. Lately, I've been hitting the Chris Williamson and Stephen Bartlett. He, the diary of his CEO, just, I really love the way that they interview. They remind me that greatness isn't genetic. It's practice. It's learned.
- 23:57And reading is a daily practice of feeding greatness. And I've paid it forward because my daughter laughs at my stack of books and now she reads like crazy. So I've paid that forward. Reading prepares you for questions you haven't even been asked yet. So how do you start? Pick a time you can protect. Morning coffee, lunch break.
- 24:20I particularly do just before bed. It's the last thing I do, so I'm not staring at a screen. And it calms me. It's a part of my nighttime routine. Ten pages, one chapter, very minimally, every night, no exceptions. Keep your book visible. Carry it with you. Let it be a reminder that you're a student of life. Don't worry about finishing fast. Worry about finishing focused, but definitely.
- 24:48100% finish. A little pro tip, if it gets really, really boring and I have a problem with this, I have to finish. You don't have to. That's just seagullism. If it's just way off the deep ends, just put it away, start a new one. When a particular sentence hits you, stop and think. I write it in my phone. Let it marinate. Ask yourself, how can I apply this today? How does that apply to my life? How can this help me?
- 25:17That application turns knowledge into wisdom. Reading without action is mental hoarding.
- 25:24Action without reading is reckless guessing. Boy, do we, a lot of us do that. Combine them and you become unstoppable. Here's some great reads. I'm just going to rattle them off. Atomic Habits, like Winning the War in Your Mind by Craig Groeschel. And yes, I do reread My Harder Than Life and Happier Than Life because I still learn from my own journey and I like to see how far I've come.
- 25:50You guys have heard me say about The Four Agreements. That's my go-to. I read it again and again every single year. I'm due to do it. Soon, The Four Agreements are my favorite books. But again, email me and I'll send you anything you want, all the ones that I've read. Each one sharpens a different blade. Reading protects your mental diet. You watch what you eat. Watch what you consume mentally.
- 26:11If you feed it full of negativity or entertainment, your thoughts will be too. The book is clean fuel. There's no algorithm, no noise, just pure growth. So turn off the TV. Turn off the drama. Turn on your curiosity. Because 2026 is not waiting for you. It's coming fast. And the prepared mind wins. Jim Rohn said,
- 26:41Formal education will make you a living. Self-education will make you a fortune. He was right. My greatest financial blessings came after lessons I taught myself through books. So treat reading like a workout. Schedule it. Show up. Sweat mentally. And at first it might feel slow, but give it time. You'll start craving it. You'll finish a chapter.
- 27:11And feel that dopamine hit. And wonder what's going to happen next. And you'll feel healthy success. Final thoughts on reading. When you read. You join a conversation with the greatest minds in history. They reached across time. To hand you their playbook. Don't waste that gift. It is hard. To write a book. If they took the time to do it. You can read it and enjoy it. Because someday.
- 27:40someone will be reading your story. Make sure it's worth the paper. If training builds strength and meditation builds clarity and reading builds knowledge, then guess what the last one is? Gratitude builds joy. Gratitude is the bridge between who you are and who you're becoming. When you wake up thankful,
- 28:05You can't wake up angry. It's impossible to be grumpy and grateful at the same time. That's why I end every day and start every morning with the same simple sentence. Thank you for this breath. Thank you for another chance. Thank you for the people I love. Thank you for the lesson I've learned. That one practice, and I forgot one more. Thank you for another day.
- 28:35That one practice changes the entire tone of my day, which changes the entire tone of my life. When I first started gratitude journaling, I thought it was cheesy, real cheesy. Now I see it as mental armor. Every line I write is a layer of protection against negativity, because the more you notice good, the more good you'll attract. I remember being stuck in traffic on I-75 one morning late for a meeting.
- 29:04angry at every stopped car. Then I caught myself. I whispered, thank you for the brakes working in my car. Thank you for this car. Thank you for the road. Thank you for the time to breathe and be calm and get ready for said meeting I was heading to. Instantly, my shoulders dropped.
- 29:35doesn't change the situation. It changes the storyteller. Every night before bed, I write down three things that went right. Sometimes they're big. A deal closed, a breakthrough in coaching, a great workout with perhaps my daughter. Sometimes they're tiny. And
- 29:55very much lately, hot coffee, a quiet sunset, a text from a friend, or literally just the bed I'm about to climb into. But every one of them matters. Gratitude keeps your soul fit. It's the gym for your emotions. When life hits hard, gratitude keeps you standing. When money's tight, gratitude reminds you you're still rich. Our friend Mel says, Mel Robbins,
- 30:24What you focus on expands. She's right. Focus on what's missing. You'll find more lack. Focus on what's working. You'll find more blessings. At National Technology Management, my AI cybersecurity firm, we start team meetings with gratitude rounds. Each person shares one win, personal and professional. I guess that's two wins.
- 30:50It changes the energy instantly. Problems feel smaller. Solution shop faster. That's the science of gratitude. It rewires the six inches in your head between your ears for optimism and resilience. So here's your daily gratitude ritual. Step one, wake up thankful. Before you touch your phone, say three silent thank yous. The easiest one is you woke up that day. Step two.
- 31:20Write them down. Use a notebook, a note app, or a back of a receipt. Physical ink creates emotional weight. Step three, share one aloud. Tell a coworker, tell your spouse, tell a stranger at the coffee shop. Gratitude shared becomes gratitude squared. Mmm, love that. Gratitude shared becomes gratitude squared. Step four, repeat that at night. Book end your day with thankfulness.
- 31:49Morning gratitude sets your tone. Evening gratitude seals your peace. If you do this for seven days, you'll start to feel lighter. If you do it for a month, you'll start to see opportunity everywhere. If you do it for a year, you'll become unshakable. I've seen it happen. Clients, friends, and family, once they start living grateful, they start living free. Because happiness isn't what you get. It's what you notice.
- 32:19Let's bring all four together, the four pillars of transformation, physical training for strength, meditation for clarity, reading for wisdom, gratitude for joy. Do them daily and you will not recognize yourself by this time next year. People ask, what changed about you? And you'll smile and say,
- 32:44everything. Because these rituals work quietly. They don't make noise. They get results. Well, here's your 2026 challenge. For the next 30 days, commit to all four rituals. Move your body every morning. Sit in silence for 10 minutes. Read 10 pages of growth.
- 33:14One month, a completely different you. Don't wait for January 1st. Start tomorrow. Start tonight if you can. Because success loves speed and it favors the starter, not the talker. If you miss a day, it's okay. Forgive yourself and keep going. Progress over perfection. Imagine walking into 2026.
- 33:43strong in body, calm in mind, sharp in thought, and full of gratitude. That's a magnetic human. That's a winner. And that's who you're becoming. The world doesn't need more noise. It needs more examples. Be the example. Show people what discipline looks like wrapped in love.
- 34:10Because that's what harder than life means. We choose the harder path so we can live the happier life. And when you combine both, you become unstoppable. As we close, I want you to take one deep breath. Inhale possibility. Exhale limitation and excuses.
- 34:40say this with me. I am disciplined. I am peaceful. I am growing. I am grateful. You feel that? That's transformation starting. Keep doing the work. Keep honoring the rituals. Keep showing the world what's possible when you commit.
