- 0:00SPEAKER_00: A few small changes that you make this week will pay you back every single day for
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: the next four months.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about how to get organized and stay ahead this winter.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: If you're smart and capable,
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: but overwhelmed by too many decisions,
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: half-built systems,
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: and things you keep meaning to get to, you're in the right place.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Simple Enough.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: You know that feeling of summer giving way to fall?
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: The change in the air and the light?
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: It's a signal to take care of the inside.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And sometimes the inside can feel a bit chaotic.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And we don't notice it most of the time because we're outside in the light enjoying things.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Now that we're inside, you've noticed.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And it's a chance to reflect and do things differently.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Awareness is the entry point to the dream.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Before I forget,
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: though, I want to make sure that you like, follow, share, and comment on the video.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And if you're listening to just the audio, to rate and review.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I'm on a mission to streamline the world,
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: and that requires more people to hear what I have to say.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: It can only happen that way if you hear about simple enough.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And so the algorithm doesn't do it by itself.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: It needs us to tell it that this is valuable, super helpful information.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Thanks.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: And now back to winter.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Winter.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: It's overflowing with less energy and more expectations.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Expectations on top of expectations.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: There are the people,
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: there's the mud,
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: there's the holidays,
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: there's the things that you have put aside and put off because you intended
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: to do them in the dark evenings of winter.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Except now it seems getting cozy with a cozy beverage and watching TV is
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: a better way to spend the dark.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Every year we vow to do it different and take care of business.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Every year there are more and more expectations.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: They tend to pile up.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And there's the requests, the gear, the bulkiness, the extra.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: It feels like a lot.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: We can reframe it, though.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: It's the perfect time for creating a nurturing and supportive environment.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: So it's easier to sit down and get cozy and watch TV.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: It's resetting our expectations.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Determining what to carry with us into the new year and for the rest of our lives.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: It's really about setting yourself up for success.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Being inside with all the debris can take us down and or spark us into action.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: You don't have to live this way.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: It can be lighter.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: It can be done differently.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: We can plan for the holiday, the year-end paperwork.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: The guests, the kids who come home for the holiday.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: You can create new systems so it never has to be like last year again.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Wouldn't that be great?
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: So I suggest we put the most effort into three systems
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: that will greatly improve your winter experience.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: And remember, a system takes the everyday guesswork out of your daily effort.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: When you know where things live and know where they are used,
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: you don't have to waste extra time.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And energy.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Take the time to define that now and have easier days for months, maybe even years.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Apply the five Ds, that's dream, declutter, design, develop, and delight into each system.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: You can actually download the five Ds of the Streamline System PDF and More
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: than Organized.net slash decisions to help you stay on top of that.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: The link is also in the description.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: So first system I suggest you work on is your outerwear and gear.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: It's really about wardrobe keeping, right?
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Where is it going to live?
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: How can you make it easier?
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: How can you rotate it in and out of the season with ease?
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And how can you keep it fresh and from too much piling up?
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: The second system is paperwork.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: How can you eliminate all the excess and redundancy so you have a simple way
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: to process your mail,
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: check off that you paid the bills, and know what your numbers are?
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Easy, right?
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Paperwork system.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Third one is kitchen and pantry.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: This one's especially great around the holidays because it's
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: about keeping your food fresh and being prepared for the drop-in guests
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: and making sure you have enough of those cozy beverages to cover the evenings
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: when you're decluttering the paper.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: It's also a great way to finally get rid of all
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: the gift food that's been hanging out in the pantry and you've been thinking,
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I'll try it one day.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Just admit that you won't and toss it.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: It's probably expired anyway.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Planning ahead now also allows you to spread the costs and efforts over the next few months.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Problem solving without the looming deadline makes for better decisions.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: And it happens when you anticipate before the need.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: So you get to know your numbers,
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: use up the tea,
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: and try out some of those recipes that have been piling up on the counter.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Isn't that great?
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Winter is the natural time for reflection and curation.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: It's an opportunity for connection.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: And creating the space for the people.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: All of these things should help you stay a little bit more motivated
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: while getting organized during the winter.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: It'll feel less heavy and it can be more joyful.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: And at the same time, you're preparing for growth and the spring.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: What else are you not going to carry forward with you?
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Let it go.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: It really doesn't have to be so hard.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Few small decisions now will pay off for the next four months
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: and it will feel lighter and empowering.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: I can't wait to hear what gets to happen for you when you do.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: One small thing.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: The entryway.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: How to keep it clear enough to come and go and connect your outerwear and gear.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: You want to keep it practical and essential.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Where do you come and go from your home?
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Do that spot.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: We're going to curate it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Eliminate what doesn't belong so only the essential is there.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: You're going to clean it.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Take out the extra dirt and mud and make it as easy as possible to maintain that.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Assign homes for things.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: You can do this either by person or by piece and make sure to include
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: an out-the-door box, bin, or table.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Make sure to designate a spot for things you take with you on a daily basis
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: so you know where to return them when you get home.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: It works both ways.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: It's there when you leave and you have a place to put it when you come back.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Don't forget about the in the door items either.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Where can you set the bags while you put your coat away and how can you return to
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: the bags and get them all the way to the kitchen or the guest room before you have
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: to run to the bathroom?
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: There is a method, there is a routine of where you set things and pick them back up.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: So think of it as landing zones.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: You're going to be coming in with lots of extra gifts, decor, and food for the upcoming season.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Make sure you have a little stash space for that.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: After the holidays, it transitions into other seasonal and event landing zones as needed.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Or it stays clear for the space.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Don't forget that.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: And make sure to always check out the out-the-door bin on your way out the door
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: for anything you can take with you on your errands today.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: If you enjoyed today's show and don't want to worry about missing an episode,
