- 0:43Telephone number six so eight five three five forty three forty three. That's
- 0:46five three five four three four three. Andrew, Are you staying dry this
- 0:50morning? You know it's sprinkled a little bit, Yeah, but you know,
- 0:56looking at the forecast on Sunday was like it's going to rain all week.
- 1:02I was messaging my Jeremy, our roofing manager. I was like,
- 1:06hey, what's our plan. I know, we had like a dozen roofs
- 1:08out for the week. And it's funny because my people know me and they
- 1:15know that sometimes I can get a little worked up. You They're just like,
- 1:23hey, just relax, we got this. This is what we do,
- 1:27and and of course they do. They already had a plan. My
- 1:32roofing manager probably reads the weather better than a meteorologist and he's like, good,
- 1:38we're good Monday, Tuesday. It's going to rain maybe in the morning
- 1:41on Wednesday, but we'll work around it. And we've got Saturday open.
- 1:44And I'm like, you know what, I don't even know why I'm asking
- 1:48you. You know, I used to be in charge of so much stuff,
- 1:52and you know, as the years have gone and we've grown, I've
- 1:56put the right people in the right places and they run with it. And
- 2:00you know, that's our customers and potential customers are very very fortunate. I'm
- 2:07very fortunate that they're going to get to deal with with the people that they
- 2:09do because they're absolute experts and professionals and what we do. So, yeah,
- 2:15we're staying dry, We're getting roofs done. We're helping people out.
- 2:17But rain's good. But we've had a lot this year, right, it's
- 2:23kind of nice drying out a little bit. We've had our fair share and
- 2:25we're gonna real quick in a moment, going to get to a question you
- 2:30received about about signing. But one thing too, when you talk about roofs,
- 2:32as I've mentioned, you guys did our roof at the Prebowl estate a
- 2:37number of years ago, and it looks absolutely fantastic. And as we look
- 2:40at you talking about kind of that forecast, one of the things and I'll
- 2:44mention this again. I know I probably brought it up a dozen times,
- 2:46but it's important to mention one of the very impressive things about with the roofs
- 2:53with large storme services and having the work done, and what you guys are
- 2:55able to do is they work so dang fast. That was just like amazing
- 3:01to me that they got out to our house early in the morning, started
- 3:07their work and by lunchtime. By lunchtime, the roof was completed. And
- 3:12you couldn't tell other than the fact that there was a brand new roof on
- 3:15our house, that anything had happened at our house during the day. It's
- 3:17amazing, and you talk about the weather forecast those kinds of things. Gosh,
- 3:23you don't want to leave obviously, a roof exposed to the elements.
- 3:28And one of the great things about the work that you guys do at our
- 3:30Stom Services is as a homeowner, you don't have to worry about that just
- 3:34because of one you mentioned how your guys are as good as, if not
- 3:38better than, the meteorologists when it comes to forecasting. But two, they
- 3:42don't need a huge window, they don't need a twenty four hour period to
- 3:45complete the job. No, we actually deal with that quite often. We'll
- 3:47have roof scheduled and you know, of course, as any homeowner, if
- 3:51I've got if I'm scheduled to get my roof done and I'm looking at the
- 3:53weather. Yeah, look, everybody looks at weather apps, correct, I
- 3:58mean that's you know, I like watching the weather on the news to but
- 4:00we all can look into weather app and unfortunately, if you look at an
- 4:03extended forecast, it'll just show no rain, no rain, rain, rain,
- 4:08rain, rain, rain, But that doesn't tell us how much or
- 4:13at what time. If it says it's going to rain today, it could
- 4:15be at from one to four o'clock in the morning, right like, that's
- 4:19when it could say rain for today. So we're watching that very carefully and
- 4:23we'll get homeowners it'll call in, you know, might have a Wednesday or
- 4:26Thursday install. They'll call on a Monday and say, hey, I need
- 4:28to reschedule. It says it's going to rain. And we just like to
- 4:30put people's minds at ease and say we're gonna watch the weather. If we
- 4:35cancel the roof every time the weather app said it was going to rain,
- 4:40we would get nothing done. So we're very good at working around it because
- 4:45the fact of the matter is is that our roofing crews are the best and
- 4:48most efficient crews out there. And I mean if you've got an average size
- 4:53house, an average size house for us is roughly twenty to twenty five square
- 4:57roof. Yeah, we're done before launch. It is absolutely no way around
- 5:00it. It is absolutely amazing what they're able to do at Larson Home Services.
- 5:05And again, whether you're thinking roofing, you're thinking say you're thinking,
- 5:09we're gonna talk siding in just a moment thinking roofing, thinking gutters, and
- 5:12of course with the rain we've got that water needs to go somewhere. It
- 5:15comes off your your beautiful lars and roof that you had installed. You want
- 5:18to get those into those gutters and get the gutter shutter and the stuff filtered
- 5:21out in the water away from the house. Everybody's happy. I mentioned one
- 5:26of the ways that folks can reach out to the show if they've got a
- 5:29question. Andrew. I know you've got a number of years and we'll just
- 5:31leave it at that. We don't want to age you or anything, but
- 5:34you've been in home remodeling, home construction, home updating for a number of
- 5:41years and a lot of expertise, and if folks want to kind of work
- 5:45twenty wow, yeah, twenty four. So I've been doing this since I
- 5:47was six. We're going with it. You could always pick Andrew's brain.
- 5:56Just send him an email WIBA at Larson Home Services dot com. Some of
- 6:00your questions maybe read and talked about here on the air, and you received
- 6:04a question about siding, Andrew, and this is one of those areas where
- 6:09I know you've worked with a number of different folks and had a lot of
- 6:12great experiences, and you've probably seen some things that are not so great when
- 6:15it comes to siding, what's this question about? And how do you help
- 6:18folks out? So it wasn't a question about types of siding or siding installation,
- 6:24but actually worked really well into what we do. It was a question
- 6:27about a roof leak, and that they had the person that put the roof
- 6:31on come out and take a look, and the roofing contractor said it was
- 6:38a siding issue, and so they reached out to me and that was the
- 6:44question, like, hey, can this be a Can a leak be part
- 6:46of a siding issue? And it's a loaded question. It takes some investigation,
- 6:53but yes, it absolutely can. Siding, windows, siding, I
- 6:59mean we're going to get deep here. Sean's windows, siding and roofs They
- 7:02honestly, they all work together. Anywhere that you have a second story with
- 7:08roof edges or anything that hangs out from that, which a lot of people
- 7:11do. The siding flat, the siding, the siding flashing, and windows
- 7:15and window flashing all have to work in conjunction because a roof can only stop,
- 7:20roof can only get water on top of it down to the ground if
- 7:26it if it starts on top of the roof. Wow, that was confusing.
- 7:32Here's what was happening on that if we actually went out to that house
- 7:34and did an inspection, and what we found was that where some siding flashing
- 7:41had tied into a window, it was actually getting underneath some siding flashing before
- 7:46it got down to the roof. So water was constantly if they had any
- 7:49wind blown rain, because that was one of our questions was does it leak
- 7:54every time it rains or is it during a certain time, is it during
- 7:58a certain type of direction of wind or something like that, because that's gonna
- 8:03tell us a lot if you say, yeah, when it's blowing from the
- 8:05east and it's hitting this side of the house, we get water. We
- 8:09get water leaking through this spot right here. Well perfect, Now I can
- 8:13start to look around, look around certain areas, and one key area I
- 8:16will always look as windows, because if windows aren't flashed properly and they allow
- 8:22the water to get channeled behind the siding, it can definitely get underneath the
- 8:26roof if a couple things aren't done right. House wrap house wrap behind siding
- 8:31is a waterproofer, especially if we take like vinyl siding for instance, which
- 8:37this house had on it. Vinyl siding is going to keep a lot of
- 8:41water out, but it's not meant to be a waterproofing siding. Water can
- 8:46get behind it. So if anybody has vinyl siding, if you go and
- 8:50you kind of look at the bottom of your siding, there's actually little slits,
- 8:54there's weep holes, and that's so if water or not. If when
- 8:58water gets it's behind it, the water can weep out. It also acts
- 9:03as ventilation. It will allow it to dry out. So water getting behind
- 9:07vinyl siding is completely normal. That's why we put a house wrap on and
- 9:11the most common. There's many brands, but everybody probably says, you know
- 9:15my Tievek house rap, DuPont Tieveck house wrap. They're kind of the people
- 9:18that made it famous. Now there's lots of different brands and styles, but
- 9:22that's one of them, and that Tievec has to be put on properly.
- 9:26It also has to be flashed properly and the seams have to be taped properly.
- 9:31That way, when water does get behind the siding from wind blown rain,
- 9:35it's able to be channeled out the bottom of the siding or out the
- 9:39wheepholes without getting underneath the roof. Because if it gets underneath the house wrap.
- 9:43It will actually be channeled or can be channeled right underneath the siding.
- 9:48That's also a reason why we usually take if possible, it's not possible all
- 9:54the time to pull people siding off, but whenever possible, we're going to
- 9:58pull siding off and do the proper step flashing, do proper roof to wall
- 10:01flashing and side flashing. That's a lot of flashing shows. I always say
- 10:07we need proper flashing. It's super important. But there's many different kinds,
- 10:11many different styles, and many different applications for different parts of the home.
- 10:16But those are the only ways we can ensure. So the question about siding
- 10:20was really, can my roof be looking like it's leaking because actually the siding's
- 10:24not done right? Question? The answer is yes, and on this particular
- 10:28home, that's exactly what happened. We had to pull vinyl siding off.
- 10:31Again. We don't we're not a siding contractor, but we know how to
- 10:35do this stuff because we roof, pull some siding off, tape some seams
- 10:39better, and make some better window flashing, put the siding back on.
- 10:43I haven't heard of them having an issue again yet, and we have had
- 10:48a couple big rains. So that was a siding question. It wasn't about
- 10:52brand or anything like that. That's a whole nother segment. But this really
- 10:56kind of led into what we do when it comes to roof restores, because
- 11:01this roof they had on was quite new and the contractor that did it really
- 11:07did a great job. There was just some issues from before and it's kind
- 11:11of too bad for the homeowner because I don't know what. I don't know
- 11:13what their roof looked like a couple of years ago. But the reason they
- 11:16had the roof replaced was because they thought the roof was leaking, and it
- 11:22wasn't really the roof. It was actually poor tape and flashing around a window.
- 11:26It's interesting to Andrew and when you mentioned this stuff. I know,
- 11:31when we talk about, you know, the work that you guys do at
- 11:33large and home services, you often talk about systems. Is it's more than
- 11:39just one piece. It's it's different pieces working together as a complete system.
- 11:45And this is you're kind of answering this siding question that you received, is
- 11:50it shows that not only are things like roofs and siding and windows and all
- 11:54that stuff, each individual systems they all have to work together, and having
- 11:58somebody and having teams with the proper expertise to diagnose those issues is a really,
- 12:03really big thing in understanding how those all those different pieces work together to
- 12:07make sure that it's keeping your house not only looking great, but also performing
- 12:11well as well. And that's a great thing about working with Andrew and the
