Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, everybody, Welcome to
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schreger. We're off last week, we're
- 0:28Speaker 1: back on this week. We're recording this on a Wednesday
- 0:31Speaker 1: around three o'clock, and the Jets and the Giants just
- 0:35Speaker 1: finished a joint practice that looked like it was electric
- 0:39Speaker 1: and it was a good preview for the Jets Giants
- 0:42Speaker 1: game on Saturday night, which I don't know if I'm
- 0:45Speaker 1: announcing any news here. Andrew Marshand of the New York
- 0:48Speaker 1: Post or the Athletic wherever he's at now has not
- 0:50Speaker 1: reported it. No one's reported it. I will be in
- 0:52Speaker 1: the broadcast booth for Jets Giants pre season. This is
- 0:59Speaker 1: as silly as this might sound to some, This is
- 1:02Speaker 1: a pretty cool ass dream come true for me. I
- 1:04Speaker 1: grew up watching the Jets preseason, the Giants preseason my
- 1:08Speaker 1: entire life. I worked Jets preseason games a couple years back,
- 1:13Speaker 1: didn't do it the last couple of years. Anthony Beck
- 1:15Speaker 1: did the first couple of games. Couldn't do this game.
- 1:17Speaker 1: So late last week I got a call asking if
- 1:21Speaker 1: I'll be in the booth and I'm like as a
- 1:25Speaker 1: play by play guy, as a color guy, as a
- 1:30Speaker 1: sideline reporter, and they were like, no Iron Eagles to
- 1:32Speaker 1: play by play guy, You idiot, You could just come
- 1:34Speaker 1: in and give some color. So I've been studying NonStop Jets, Roster, Giants, roster,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and I will be on the broadcast Saturday night. But
- 1:44Speaker 1: it's been a crazy couple weeks in the NFL, and
- 1:47Speaker 1: I'm here with my great producer, slash co host in
- 1:50Speaker 1: many ways, mister Aaron wan Kaufman and Aaron, I'm gonna
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you my weekend event and then I'm
- 1:58Speaker 1: gonna ask you about what you did over the weekend,
- 2:00Speaker 1: because I feel like both are intertwined in a way
- 2:05Speaker 1: of sports soelebrity and maybe spinning the spinning it forward
- 2:12Speaker 1: a little bit as where this whole confluence of sports
- 2:17Speaker 1: and celebrity and in many ways, I guess culture and
- 2:21Speaker 1: zeitgeist come together. So obviously I've done NFL stuff for years.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I had an opportunity to go to the Masters this
- 2:29Speaker 1: year in August which was a dream come true. I'd
- 2:32Speaker 1: never been to Augusta. It was like bucket list. It
- 2:34Speaker 1: was amazing. And when I was there, there was a
- 2:36Speaker 1: private concert for a musician that I did not know
- 2:39Speaker 1: much about. And this musician's name is jelly Roll. Jelly
- 2:44Speaker 1: Roll performed at this masters party that I was at,
- 2:48Speaker 1: and it was awesome. I was blown away. Fast forward
- 2:53Speaker 1: a couple months later, I'm playing in a golf tournament
- 2:56Speaker 1: and I meet this guy who is an agent and
- 3:00Speaker 1: he represents different country music artists, and he starts talking
- 3:05Speaker 1: about how he works with Zach Bryan and he works
- 3:07Speaker 1: with Kenny Chesney and all these guys, and I'm like,
- 3:10Speaker 1: this is awesome. I go I roll with jelly Roll
- 3:14Speaker 1: and he's like, totally get it. Jelly Roll is awesome.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I know his guys too. All right, great, so I
- 3:21Speaker 1: catch word that's serious, Sirius XM, Sirius La, Howard Stern,
- 3:25Speaker 1: the whole thing, call me daddy, whatever you want to
- 3:27Speaker 1: call it. They're having a concert and the concert is
- 3:32Speaker 1: going to be out on the Eastern Tip, a long Island,
- 3:34Speaker 1: at a place called Stephen Talkhouse. Now Stephen Talkhouse is
- 3:38Speaker 1: a small bar, probably capacity of five hundred people. And
- 3:43Speaker 1: in this small bar, in this small concert venue, jelly
- 3:47Speaker 1: rolls performing. I have to immediately get on my text chain.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I'm asking anybody can I get tickets since I want
- 3:52Speaker 1: to see Jelly Roll. I want to go see jelly Roll.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Sure enough, I get tickets to go see jelly Roll.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I bring my wife, I bring our friends. We have
- 3:59Speaker 1: two friends, the Zips. They're into see live music. We
- 4:02Speaker 1: head out there. There's a tent in the back. We
- 4:04Speaker 1: go to the Jelly Roll concert and is like this
- 4:07Speaker 1: like great anticipation. And as we're walking into Jelly Roll,
- 4:11Speaker 1: Aaron Jimmy Fallon rolls through, Howard Stern, rolls through Bradley Cooper,
- 4:20Speaker 1: rolls through John Hamm, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Sean Hayes,
- 4:26Speaker 1: the smartlest guys. They're all with serious now. All of
- 4:29Speaker 1: a sudden, then it's Baba Booie from The Howard Stern Show,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and then it's Rosanna Scatto from local Fox five, and
- 4:36Speaker 1: I'm like, everyone's here to see the jelly Jelly Roll
- 4:40Speaker 1: comes on. I am not exaggerating. I think it's one
- 4:44Speaker 1: of the best concerts I've ever been to. Small value,
- 4:48Speaker 1: small venue, little backyard tent. Action comes out plays I'm
- 4:53Speaker 1: not Okay, one of his favorites. He plays Garth Brooks
- 4:56Speaker 1: Friends in Low Places, plays Lonely Road, which is a
- 5:00Speaker 1: cover of Country Roads by John Denver, but it's his
- 5:03Speaker 1: own spin on it. Plays Nita Fa, which is his
- 5:06Speaker 1: biggest hit, plays That Saved Me. Then he does this
- 5:10Speaker 1: whole section of covers where he's playing Biz Marquis. Then
- 5:14Speaker 1: he goes into Hoodie and the Blowfish Let Her Cry,
- 5:17Speaker 1: which was like unbelievable. I'm trying to think one of
- 5:21Speaker 1: the covers he did because he was like, oh Green Day,
- 5:24Speaker 1: good riddance. Like this guy is so talented. It's an
- 5:30Speaker 1: hour long, maybe maybe ninety minutes long. He doesn't stop
- 5:34Speaker 1: in the middle of it. He's just like, I got
- 5:36Speaker 1: to stop the concert right now. He's like, I am
- 5:39Speaker 1: a white trash kid from Nashville, Tennessee, and I am
- 5:44Speaker 1: performing in New York right now, and I am watching
- 5:47Speaker 1: Howard Stern watch me perform, and this is so surreal.
- 5:52Speaker 1: He's like, I went on Howard Show last year and
- 5:55Speaker 1: it was a bucket list item. So he's like kissing
- 5:58Speaker 1: the ring and paying tribute to the throne, and I'm
- 6:01Speaker 1: like twenty feet away now, twenty feet I'm probably so
- 6:04Speaker 1: Howard's in like VIP area and I've never seen Howard
- 6:07Speaker 1: Stern in person, and like, Howard Stern to me is,
- 6:12Speaker 1: you know, Joe Rogan might be the guy now or
- 6:15Speaker 1: Theo Vaughn might be the guy now, but if you're
- 6:17Speaker 1: talking like interviewer and cultural zeitgeist, and like the guy,
- 6:22Speaker 1: Howard Stern is my hero. Like the way he interviews
- 6:26Speaker 1: people is unlike anyone else, and he can do it
- 6:29Speaker 1: with such an art. Now I'm not as into the
- 6:32Speaker 1: stuff that used to be on you know, a little
- 6:34Speaker 1: bit vulgar and all that like, and i think Howard's
- 6:36Speaker 1: kind of steered away from that as too. And I
- 6:37Speaker 1: love the whack pack and all of that, but it's
- 6:39Speaker 1: from just pure interviewing standpoint. No one better than Howard Stern.
- 6:44Speaker 1: He's about one hundred feet away and I'm with my
- 6:47Speaker 1: wife Erica, and I'm looking at him and like she
- 6:49Speaker 1: knows me. She's like, you're not gonna make I'm like,
- 6:52Speaker 1: hell no, I'm not going like this guy right now,
- 6:54Speaker 1: like just to be in the same pay I'm not
- 6:56Speaker 1: saying a word to him. He was also like in
- 6:57Speaker 1: a VIP area behind a red carpet, like behind a
- 7:00Speaker 1: red velvet rope. So I'm like I'm not messing with it,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but I to see Howard in person was surreal than
- 7:07Speaker 1: to see Howard appreciating Jelly Roll was unbelievable. Now, where's
- 7:12Speaker 1: the football tiant? Because everyone else was at preseason games. Trigger,
- 7:15Speaker 1: what the hell are you doing at a Jelly Roll
- 7:16Speaker 1: concert out in Montalk. Well, here's the tiant. Turns out
- 7:22Speaker 1: Jelly's a huge football fan. Jelly loves ball. That got
- 7:26Speaker 1: back to me. I didn't see Jelly Roll after the concert.
- 7:29Speaker 1: There was an opportunity. I was like, we're getting out
- 7:31Speaker 1: of here, it's a mob scene. We'll leave in whatever.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But I have since had correspondence with some of Jelly
- 7:36Speaker 1: Rolls people, and it turns out he is a huge
- 7:39Speaker 1: fan of ball. Titans obviously there and there grew up,
- 7:42Speaker 1: big football fan, big guy, obviously four hundred pounds whatever,
- 7:46Speaker 1: he is three point fifty. I love the dude. Big
- 7:49Speaker 1: New York Times article on him this weekend also, But
- 7:52Speaker 1: here is my plea Aaron, we've done hip hop, We've
- 7:57Speaker 1: done rock. Who sang at the halftime show this year
- 8:01Speaker 1: in Vegas? Was the Bruno Mars again? Who'd we bring
- 8:03Speaker 1: out this year? I don't know who was usher? Was it?
- 8:07Speaker 1: We've done usher, am I allowed to say this? How
- 8:11Speaker 1: about we bring in some modern country? How about we?
- 8:14Speaker 1: I mean, and look, if you want to bring in
- 8:16Speaker 1: classic country too, and you want to pay respect to
- 8:18Speaker 1: the heroes they always like to bring out, Like all right, well,
- 8:21Speaker 1: if we're gonna do hip hop, we have to also
- 8:22Speaker 1: bring out Doctor Dre and Snoop. If we're gonna do this,
- 8:24Speaker 1: we're gonna bring rock. We gotta bring out this classic
- 8:26Speaker 1: you know, Madonna's gotta gotta come out too. Here's my
- 8:30Speaker 1: here's my pitch to the NFL New Orleans. Okay, short
- 8:35Speaker 1: of bringing out Master p and Harry Connock Junior. I
- 8:38Speaker 1: don't know if we need to have a New Orleans
- 8:40Speaker 1: you know artist, I would say, let's come out there.
- 8:44Speaker 1: We bring out Chaboozi. We open with Shaboozi. Okay, I
- 8:49Speaker 1: love Shaboozi, And I don't know, we're iHeart. We have
- 8:51Speaker 1: the rights, Aaron, we the rights. We can maybe play
- 8:53Speaker 1: a little Shaboozie right now, Like, can I just like
- 8:55Speaker 1: call out kids or do we have to like pay
- 8:57Speaker 1: for that?
- 8:57Speaker 2: We absolutely do not have right, Like, let me just
- 9:01Speaker 2: put on all these hit songs. You can you can
- 9:04Speaker 2: go onto whatever streaming app you yeah, and find Chaboozy
- 9:07Speaker 2: no spoilers.
- 9:08Speaker 1: But if you want to stop the podcast right here
- 9:10Speaker 1: and put on Shaboozy bar song, there was a song
- 9:13Speaker 1: of the summer, do that. So I'm gonna go with this.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna go. Shaboozie opens it up and we're all like,
- 9:19Speaker 1: oh my god, we're in this frenzy. Morgan Whalen a
- 9:22Speaker 1: post malone show up. We bring them all out. They
- 9:24Speaker 1: could do a couple songs together, Okay. Then from way
- 9:28Speaker 1: back we roll out my guy and Jelly comes in
- 9:32Speaker 1: and he does a three song set. And then if
- 9:34Speaker 1: you want to close it and you want to bring
- 9:36Speaker 1: out Garth Brooks or Brooks and dun or Alan Jackson
- 9:41Speaker 1: or some classic or even you know, help bring out
- 9:44Speaker 1: Dolly part and let her say again she did Thanksgiving
- 9:46Speaker 1: last year. Like cool, if you need to end it
- 9:48Speaker 1: with that classic stuff. But my pitch to the NFL
- 9:51Speaker 1: as an NFL employee, and I know they're getting this
- 9:54Speaker 1: from a thousand different directions. Let's go country this year.
- 9:59Speaker 1: This is coming from a New Yorker, the New Yorker
- 10:01Speaker 1: who respects, you know, the two coasts a whole lot
- 10:04Speaker 1: and I'm not usually this guy. I'm telling you, I
- 10:06Speaker 1: watched this jelly roll captivate a Long Island, New York
- 10:10Speaker 1: crowd filled with celebrities and a hoy poloid whatever we
- 10:15Speaker 1: call it. Like I saw it. I watched in my
- 10:16Speaker 1: own two eyes at Howard Stern is getting into jelly roll.
- 10:21Speaker 1: That means everyone in between can as well. So that
- 10:31Speaker 1: was my weekend. I'm going to talk football in a second,
- 10:34Speaker 1: but Aaron, well, all that was going on my timeline
- 10:37Speaker 1: was being assaulted by content from this thing at the
- 10:41Speaker 1: Javit Center that I'll be honest not a sports collectibles guy.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I've interacted with several athletes. I don't know if I'm
- 10:50Speaker 1: waiting on a line behind one hundred different people dressed
- 10:54Speaker 1: in Aaron Judge jerseys to go catch a sniff of
- 10:57Speaker 1: Mike Diego and Carney Lansford signing autographs. Tell me about
- 11:00Speaker 1: Fanatics Fest and what that was, because I know you
- 11:02Speaker 1: were in attendance.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so I was there on Friday. I did not
- 11:06Speaker 2: go for the entire weekend, but I was there Friday.
- 11:08Speaker 2: iHeart was recording, and first of all, like we set
- 11:12Speaker 2: up and I was just in the area where there
- 11:15Speaker 2: were like the NFL had a space, iHeart had a
- 11:18Speaker 2: space and we were just recording and I was like, okay,
- 11:21Speaker 2: this is interesting, it's not that big. And then our
- 11:24Speaker 2: other producer, Jason was like, you have to go past
- 11:27Speaker 2: that other room, go into the other room, and then
- 11:29Speaker 2: you walk into.
- 11:30Speaker 1: This there's like the VIP DP.
- 11:34Speaker 2: No, no, no, this isn't VIP. This is like for the
- 11:37Speaker 2: general audience. There's a separate Like I was in the
- 11:40Speaker 2: offshoot room and you go into the main room and
- 11:43Speaker 2: it's like just tables and tables and tables of people
- 11:49Speaker 2: selling sports cards and surprisingly a lot of Pokemon cards.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I guess Pokemon cards are like very tied in with
- 11:55Speaker 2: sports cards in yes, exactly, and so like you would
- 12:00Speaker 2: have here's someone with like I don't know, forty five
- 12:04Speaker 2: boxes of tops ninety two, you know whatever, baseball cards
- 12:09Speaker 2: and then like the nineteen ninety eight edition.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I've got that. You got that pass pat LISTATUE Rookie,
- 12:16Speaker 1: I've got it.
- 12:17Speaker 2: And so I mean, as a as a little kid,
- 12:20Speaker 2: I had some baseball cards, and I had some football cards,
- 12:24Speaker 2: and definitely basketball cards. I don't think any of them
- 12:28Speaker 2: wound up anywhere other than like in a fat rubber
- 12:31Speaker 2: band or in a shoe.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Box, or in my father's generation, they were in the
- 12:35Speaker 1: spokes of your bike in like a wheel.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I was shocked at how expensive these all were.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And I I there was also one person selling comic books,
- 12:47Speaker 2: which was like I was like, oh, well you have
- 12:48Speaker 2: like original the original Spider Man issue number one, or
- 12:52Speaker 2: like this is Superman's first appear. They didn't have that one.
- 12:55Speaker 2: But yeah, it was wild.
- 12:57Speaker 1: The collect it's all like because we used to go.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, I used to go to
- 13:02Speaker 1: card shows as a kid. You go to a card
- 13:04Speaker 1: show and there would just be tables after tables, and
- 13:07Speaker 1: it's like here they are in cases. And some of
- 13:10Speaker 1: the guys are professional collectors and some of them are
- 13:12Speaker 1: just like amateurs. Like I used to go to you know,
- 13:15Speaker 1: the Howell flea Market in New Jersey and like every Sunday,
- 13:18Speaker 1: this guy Avery's Comics had all the cards, and like
- 13:21Speaker 1: you would go and you'd buy a starting lineup that
- 13:23Speaker 1: hadn't been opened from a couple of years ago, and like,
- 13:25Speaker 1: look I got the I got the Mark Rippin starting
- 13:28Speaker 1: lineup for thirty dollars, but it was in KB two
- 13:31Speaker 1: years ago at for ten dollars, Like right, right, well,
- 13:34Speaker 1: what are we looking at here? If you're telling me
- 13:35Speaker 1: how expensive these things are? Are these like to the
- 13:37Speaker 1: next level that I wouldn't even imagine.
- 13:40Speaker 2: So I took some pictures of some of the various cards,
- 13:43Speaker 2: so mostly football cards there are. I did not realize
- 13:46Speaker 2: how expansive this market is. But there are like different
- 13:50Speaker 2: holographic versions of the same Beijon rookie card, or there's
- 13:54Speaker 2: one you know not to be not to poke a
- 13:57Speaker 2: player who's maybe down right now, so like no, there's
- 14:01Speaker 2: there's a Matt Jones one that's like and it says
- 14:04Speaker 2: like bombastic and he's like in the photo, and I
- 14:07Speaker 2: was like, you couldn't have picked like a photo of
- 14:09Speaker 2: him throwing the ball, like give him something. But they
- 14:13Speaker 2: also have a ton of old cards, Like there are
- 14:15Speaker 2: cards that, like you said, your dad probably opened and
- 14:18Speaker 2: had in his bike, except someone else's dad didn't put
- 14:21Speaker 2: it in the bike, and now it's worth four grand
- 14:24Speaker 2: or something. Yeah, So there are a lot of new cards.
- 14:28Speaker 2: There were entire boxes of only Caitlin Clark cards. There
- 14:33Speaker 2: were there.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Were so many women's basketball WNBA cards.
- 14:40Speaker 2: There are so many basketball cards that just have Wemby
- 14:42Speaker 2: as just like he is the selling.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Point questions for some question, Yeah, do they still have
- 14:47Speaker 1: Beckett magazine? Does that still exist? Did you see any
- 14:50Speaker 1: Beckett magazines around? That's where we used to have in
- 14:53Speaker 1: every month at Summer Camp. You'd get in the mail
- 14:55Speaker 1: of package and the Beckett magazine would have a little
- 14:57Speaker 1: green arrow up or down based on your card's value,
- 15:01Speaker 1: and they had every card ever made. I don't know
- 15:02Speaker 1: if Beckett still exists.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Uh, it's supposed it's got websites still. I don't know
- 15:07Speaker 2: if it exists in magazine form. It does actually still
- 15:10Speaker 2: just one dollar an issue. Great, yeah, so it must
- 15:14Speaker 2: still be a thing. But I have to imagine. I
- 15:17Speaker 2: talked to some of the people who ran stores, and
- 15:20Speaker 2: there were people from all over the country, like there
- 15:22Speaker 2: were I talked to one woman who her store was
- 15:25Speaker 2: two stops away in Manhattan, and I talked to some
- 15:28Speaker 2: people who had come from like Georgia, and it was
- 15:30Speaker 2: just like wow, And they said that this market blew
- 15:35Speaker 2: up over COVID for whatever reason, like people were stuck
- 15:38Speaker 2: inside and suddenly it was about buying collectibles and it
- 15:41Speaker 2: was about like opening it on stream and saying I
- 15:44Speaker 2: have this box of flear you know, two twenty one
- 15:50Speaker 2: NBA cards and let's see what rookies I'm going to
- 15:52Speaker 2: open here, and like pulling them each individually. It was
- 15:56Speaker 2: wild and it's not anything that I collect or buy,
- 16:01Speaker 2: So I was just seeing and.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I knew it was big because I see Aaron raveled,
- 16:07Speaker 1: like started a whole company around it. I see Michael
- 16:10Speaker 1: Rubins involved. Any time he's involved, it feels like it's
- 16:12Speaker 1: glowing up. And obviously fanatics Meiss was a part of that.
- 16:16Speaker 1: That's one part of it. But then there was this
- 16:18Speaker 1: whole other thing where like I'm watching Tom Brady get
- 16:19Speaker 1: interviewed by Steven A.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Smith.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Then I'm watching like jay Z showed up with DJ
- 16:23Speaker 1: Collin and I'm like, this is all happening amidst Like, so,
- 16:27Speaker 1: Javit Center is freaking huge. I used to see the
- 16:29Speaker 1: car show there is it were you able to beautiful?
- 16:32Speaker 2: It was my first time being at Javit Center. It
- 16:35Speaker 2: was beautiful. Yeah, So I was not there was There
- 16:40Speaker 2: were a few moments of Stephen A. Smith being moved
- 16:42Speaker 2: about with huge security teams and you know, fans chasing
- 16:47Speaker 2: him down and trying to get you know, his audisself
- 16:50Speaker 2: say something to him, yeah, selfie with him, But there
- 16:54Speaker 2: were you could also pay, so.
- 16:56Speaker 1: He paid separately for that to then go. But like,
- 16:58Speaker 1: were you paying to go look at these different collectibles?
- 17:01Speaker 2: So that's no, no, So I mean we were working there,
- 17:04Speaker 2: but I think everyone paid some feed just to get
- 17:07Speaker 2: in the door one day and then I saw so
- 17:10Speaker 2: many kids, little kids who were having the time of
- 17:13Speaker 2: their life, like parents, parents are there with them.
- 17:17Speaker 1: From like my kids school, being like will you be
- 17:19Speaker 1: at fanatics fest?
- 17:20Speaker 2: And I was like, right, carry in like a box
- 17:23Speaker 2: like the kids or whatever.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson fan and Jalen Brunson's given autograph, so like
- 17:27Speaker 1: that's an opportunity to get that.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Grant Williams was there given an interview, and you know
- 17:32Speaker 2: he he supposedly I think he bought a box of
- 17:36Speaker 2: basketball cards for like ten grand or something, opened it
- 17:40Speaker 2: and got a Luca Rookie card that's worth a hundred.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I mean that's a great story. I mean, I'm always
- 17:45Speaker 1: a little guy. That's good.
- 17:46Speaker 2: You're happy for him, right, that is that's not an
- 17:49Speaker 2: endorsement saying that everyone should go out and spend ten
- 17:52Speaker 2: grand to buy a box of cards. And expect you're
- 17:54Speaker 2: gonna ten times your money. But still, yeah, no, there
- 17:57Speaker 2: was a lot of you know, athletes there. I didn't see.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I didn't see jay Z. I know Asap Rocky was there.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Like there were musicians there and everything too. But you
- 18:05Speaker 2: could go and get in line and get a photo
- 18:08Speaker 2: with an athlete or get an autograph with them.
- 18:12Speaker 1: So there was so much this thing. Yeah, if you're
- 18:17Speaker 1: a listener of this podcast and say you live in
- 18:20Speaker 1: the Tri state area, you're in Connecticut, New Jersey, and
- 18:22Speaker 1: they're having it in the spring, let's just say instead
- 18:24Speaker 1: of the summer, because you go there on summer plans,
- 18:26Speaker 1: you'd say, check it out.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I think, like you said, I didn't grow up going
- 18:32Speaker 2: to card shows, but I would go to the flea
- 18:33Speaker 2: market every other weekend with my mom, and I would
- 18:36Speaker 2: as soon as we got there, like I would the cards,
- 18:38Speaker 2: run to the guy who was selling cards, and I
- 18:40Speaker 2: would go look at the X Men cards and the
- 18:43Speaker 2: basketball cards and magic cards whatever. I just went straight
- 18:46Speaker 2: to the flea market or to the card table. And
- 18:48Speaker 2: if you have a kid who does that, yeah, they
- 18:50Speaker 2: probably would have loved this. Okay that this would have
- 18:52Speaker 2: been amazing. What was what were you.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Doing for iHeart there, Like, can I find a podcast
- 18:57Speaker 1: of you guys live at is it?
- 18:59Speaker 3: You?
- 18:59Speaker 1: And Jason and a coast.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Who was in No, I mean we were there helping
- 19:03Speaker 2: to record Bobby Bones, who's a iHeart Radio he has
- 19:07Speaker 2: a couple shows. Yeah, and he he actually bought a
- 19:10Speaker 2: box while he was there of cards that he wanted
- 19:13Speaker 2: to open. And I don't actually think he did while
- 19:16Speaker 2: we were there, because then they went into this whole
- 19:19Speaker 2: discussion about supposedly now everyone is using CT scans on
- 19:25Speaker 2: boxes of unopened cards.
- 19:26Speaker 1: What does it mean?
- 19:28Speaker 2: So it's like a digital imaging thing you use in
- 19:31Speaker 2: medicine to like look at inside your body. And people
- 19:34Speaker 2: are able to use the box card card there to
- 19:37Speaker 2: see what's in it. So before they open this ten
- 19:41Speaker 2: grand box, there's there's one Lebron Rookie card that's never
- 19:44Speaker 2: been opened and it's probably worth upwards of one hundred grand,
- 19:48Speaker 2: you know, six figures. And so if you throw this
- 19:51Speaker 2: box in the CT scan machine, you can see if
- 19:53Speaker 2: it's in there. If it's in there, you open the
- 19:55Speaker 2: box and then you sell that card, and if it's
- 19:57Speaker 2: not in there, you probably just sell the box to
- 20:00Speaker 2: someone else. At ten grand, and you know, they open
- 20:04Speaker 2: it thinking that the Lebron card might be in there,
- 20:06Speaker 2: so they had a whole discussion about that, and he
- 20:08Speaker 2: ended up not opening the box that he bought because
- 20:11Speaker 2: he was too nervous that it had been scanned at
- 20:13Speaker 2: a ct scam machine. So, yeah, there were a bunch
- 20:18Speaker 2: of recordings, and I Heart had some radio stations that
- 20:20Speaker 2: were there doing stuff as well. But yeah, it was,
- 20:24Speaker 2: it was. It looks like a lot of fun. All
- 20:27Speaker 2: the stuff I saw on socials the next couple of
- 20:30Speaker 2: days too, because I didn't go Saturday or Sunday, I
- 20:31Speaker 2: saw Gronk and Brady were there. Jersey's just walking through
- 20:37Speaker 2: the lot, which was cool.
- 20:39Speaker 1: They had a good turnout. I mean, you're talking big
- 20:43Speaker 1: stars all over the place, all right, So let's fanatics
- 20:46Speaker 1: fest and we're giving it a if you're into it, though,
- 20:48Speaker 1: if you're not, do I like that? All right? A
- 20:58Speaker 1: couple other topics before I get to my list of
- 21:01Speaker 1: ten breakout players, which I think everyone wants to hear
- 21:03Speaker 1: because you're doing your fantasy draft and all this thing.
- 21:06Speaker 1: The Chiefs. The Chiefs on Saturday played all of their starters.
- 21:12Speaker 1: They played against the Lions, number twos didn't win the game,
- 21:15Speaker 1: that's all right. They were having such a fun time
- 21:18Speaker 1: out there, Aaron like, I don't know if you watched
- 21:20Speaker 1: it, it was like in the middle of the day on Saturday,
- 21:21Speaker 1: I was I was home, my son had you know,
- 21:26Speaker 1: like baseball, and then it was like there was this
- 21:28Speaker 1: like lowl in the afternoon. I'm like, oh, Ill put
- 21:29Speaker 1: on an NFL network and the Chiefs and I'm like,
- 21:31Speaker 1: mahomes Kelsey, was she Rice Padjaco. They're all out there
- 21:37Speaker 1: and like not one of them is bitching, one of
- 21:40Speaker 1: them is complaining that one of them is even questioning.
- 21:42Speaker 1: They're in there. They're in a full lather mahomestress but
- 21:44Speaker 1: behind the back pass Like I don't know, man, like
- 21:49Speaker 1: if you're talking about is this team gonna buckle under
- 21:51Speaker 1: the pressure of a three peet? I don't know if
- 21:53Speaker 1: I've ever seen a looser, more confident, more more loving,
- 21:58Speaker 1: joyous team than the Chiefs that I saw on Saturday.
- 22:02Speaker 1: And now like they're not going to play against the
- 22:03Speaker 1: Bears tomorrow night. When they played Precs, like they it
- 22:06Speaker 1: all like the what's the term, like the hey is
- 22:09Speaker 1: in the born like they're good. They'll wait two weeks
- 22:11Speaker 1: and then they'll be ready to go two weeks from
- 22:12Speaker 1: now when they play the Ravens. But like, I don't know, man,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I've got to make my Super Bowl pick. You know,
- 22:17Speaker 1: there's a lot of hype and a lot of expectations
- 22:19Speaker 1: on who I'm gonna pick. I'm telling you now, two
- 22:21Speaker 1: weeks out, it might be disingenuous if I even come
- 22:24Speaker 1: on to this thing and say, well, I'm really considering
- 22:26Speaker 1: another team in the AFC. Like they look loaded, and
- 22:29Speaker 1: gosh do they have fun doing.
- 22:30Speaker 2: It, And just the comparison between as a Bills fan,
- 22:35Speaker 2: like we are going through the Bills have so many
- 22:38Speaker 2: injuries in pre season and the Chiefs are, like you said,
- 22:42Speaker 2: throwing behind the back passes and like Xavier Worthy looks incredible,
- 22:47Speaker 2: and yeah, they they got to be all smiles over there.
- 22:50Speaker 1: They look good. Broncos named bo Nix the starter. I
- 22:55Speaker 1: don't know if it was officially. I've known this. Ye hey,
- 22:58Speaker 1: news flash, I've known this, and they weren't Zach Wilson
- 23:00Speaker 1: and Jaredson, and I love that. Like there's like news
- 23:03Speaker 1: like the second Sean Payton drafted a quarter twelfth overall,
- 23:07Speaker 1: Like he's probably gonna start, especially when he's got sixty
- 23:09Speaker 1: one career starts in college.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Uh.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I want everyone to be careful here because Sean is
- 23:15Speaker 1: a cheerleader for his guys, and Sean I've known very well.
- 23:19Speaker 1: And Sean came out and has just been raving and
- 23:22Speaker 1: did an interview with Chase Daniel and Diana Russini. They
- 23:25Speaker 1: traveled out to Denver, and like he was glowing about Bonnicks.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Bonix has been unbelievable in preseason. And the same people
- 23:32Speaker 1: not Diana Chase, but like the same people who who
- 23:35Speaker 1: mocked and scoffed at a bo Knicks draft pick in April,
- 23:39Speaker 1: a lot of people did. They're like, Bonix is not
- 23:41Speaker 1: worthy of a top twelve pick. What is Sean Payton
- 23:43Speaker 1: doing with it? Are now being like, well, bo Nicks
- 23:45Speaker 1: is the man, Like he looks good and like he
- 23:47Speaker 1: has n't taken an NFL snap between that draft and
- 23:51Speaker 1: the hype machine. Now, I would just say, slow down,
- 23:54Speaker 1: it's not going to be bow Knicks out of the
- 23:56Speaker 1: gates lighting the world on fire. I do think he
- 23:59Speaker 1: won the job outright. I do think he's an incredibly
- 24:02Speaker 1: accurate quarterback. But like I'm seeing a lot of people
- 24:04Speaker 1: that I follow in the media a lot of people
- 24:07Speaker 1: I think have really strong voices in the NFL, like
- 24:10Speaker 1: already just assuming because he's starting and because Sean Payton
- 24:14Speaker 1: put his name behind it, that bone Knicks is gonna
- 24:16Speaker 1: be absolutely electric. Slow down, slow down. It's gonna take
- 24:20Speaker 1: a while. I'm telling you this. You're in the division
- 24:22Speaker 1: where you're facing Herbert and the Chargers and Mahomes. The Chiefs,
- 24:26Speaker 1: like the Broncos are have to put up a lot
- 24:27Speaker 1: of points. I think they're gonna be much improved this year.
- 24:29Speaker 1: But I just want to say, slow down on crowning
- 24:32Speaker 1: bow Knicks and expecting him to just come out of
- 24:35Speaker 1: the gates and beat Drew Brees.
- 24:37Speaker 2: All right.
- 24:37Speaker 1: A couple other items little housekeeping here as far as
- 24:40Speaker 1: NFL stuff goes hard knocks, be careful again, be careful
- 24:48Speaker 1: of the hard knocks hype machine. I always like to
- 24:50Speaker 1: proceed with caution here, But holy do they look fun
- 24:54Speaker 1: on offense. Like Caleb is electric on this show. And
- 24:59Speaker 1: they had him biked up against the Bengals in the
- 25:02Speaker 1: first half and just said, you know, are you nervous.
- 25:05Speaker 1: He's like, no, I'm not. I never for get nervous.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Like oh, like don't put that on film.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Such but such. I loved that clip because it's him
- 25:12Speaker 2: saying I did get nervous the first time, and I
- 25:16Speaker 2: threw like an interception first play or something, and from
- 25:19Speaker 2: then on I was like, Okay, it's not worth it
- 25:21Speaker 2: to get nervous. Like I love that, Yes, it is
- 25:24Speaker 2: really risky to be like, no, I never got nervous,
- 25:26Speaker 2: but that that story behind it. I love that there
- 25:29Speaker 2: is a there.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Is a very thin line and like a really small
- 25:37Speaker 3: like loophole to thread of being an arrogant, cocky asshole
- 25:44Speaker 3: and a confident, likable, charming, very talented guy.
- 25:49Speaker 1: And I somehow I'm watching this Hard Knocks and I'm like,
- 25:52Speaker 1: every time Caleb inches to the former, he like does
- 25:56Speaker 1: something that endears himself to the audience and to me,
- 25:58Speaker 1: and I'm like, all right, I think he's on the ladder.
- 26:00Speaker 1: A couple of things that I love. He was on
- 26:02Speaker 1: part of my take, and he explained that like the
- 26:05Speaker 1: Heisman trust in him to the Heisman, and the story
- 26:08Speaker 1: that came out was that like he wasn't going to
- 26:09Speaker 1: go unless they like fulfilled his demands. His demands were
- 26:12Speaker 1: that his offensive lineman got to go with him, I've
- 26:14Speaker 1: never heard that before. Eventually the Heisman Trust agreed to that,
- 26:19Speaker 1: and like he showed up with his entire offensive line.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I love that. There was this story that, you know,
- 26:25Speaker 1: he's selfish guy coming out of the draft, all this stuff,
- 26:28Speaker 1: and we've waxed poetic and talked a million words about
- 26:31Speaker 1: in the pre draft process about Caleb. But like I
- 26:33Speaker 1: told the story and I want to bring it up
- 26:35Speaker 1: again that he didn't work out, he didn't do all
- 26:39Speaker 1: the stuff that everyone asked him to. He wasn't looking to,
- 26:42Speaker 1: you know, throw at the combine, and there was a
- 26:44Speaker 1: lot of questions on that Friday night. Caleb's there with
- 26:48Speaker 1: a camera and I'm like, first of all, I don't
- 26:50Speaker 1: know what the hell is he a shutter bug? Now?
- 26:52Speaker 1: Is he? You know? Ansel Adams? I have no idea,
- 26:55Speaker 1: But he's there Friday night. No other quarterbacks are there.
- 26:59Speaker 1: They work out Saturdays. It's defensive back drills, and Caleb
- 27:03Speaker 1: was there just to support his few teammates who played
- 27:05Speaker 1: at USC and he was like, oh, to be there
- 27:06Speaker 1: to cheer them on. I'm like all right. And then
- 27:08Speaker 1: he was taking photos because that's like a hobby is
- 27:10Speaker 1: I'm like, I love that cool guy. The last part
- 27:14Speaker 1: is hard Knocks reveals that like as much as he's
- 27:17Speaker 1: the first overall pick and a signing bonus was thirty
- 27:19Speaker 1: five million dollars. What I dig about Caleb you're watching this,
- 27:24Speaker 1: he doesn't carry himself like he's above Austin Reid, who's
- 27:28Speaker 1: an undrafted guy out to Western Kentucky via West Florida.
- 27:31Speaker 1: He doesn't carry himself above Brett Rippon, and he certainly
- 27:34Speaker 1: doesn't carry himself above Tyson Bagent, who started games last
- 27:37Speaker 1: year and comes out of Division two Shepherd. In fact,
- 27:41Speaker 1: if anything, he's taking the piss out of himself throughout
- 27:45Speaker 1: the show. He's the one who at the Rookie Show
- 27:47Speaker 1: bombed singing John Legend, and like he's loving these other
- 27:51Speaker 1: guys and cheering them on and they are equals on
- 27:53Speaker 1: the sideline, Like, I don't know, man, there's no veteran
- 27:57Speaker 1: in that room. Like you look at Jaden Daniels. He's
- 28:00Speaker 1: got Marcus Mariota, you go up to uh, you know,
- 28:03Speaker 1: look at what JJ McCarthy had before the injury. He's
- 28:06Speaker 1: got Sam Darnold, And the other rookie is like Drake
- 28:09Speaker 1: may jor Kobe Burssett's there and it's kind of like
- 28:11Speaker 1: one of these dynamics where it's like, all right, we're
- 28:13Speaker 1: gonna learn from this guy. Look if Brett Rippen's the
- 28:16Speaker 1: veteran in the room. Brett Rippon was cut by the
- 28:18Speaker 1: Rams after one game against the Packers last year. It
- 28:20Speaker 1: played so poorly. I don't think mcs they ever wanted
- 28:22Speaker 1: to see him, you know, have to dress up again.
- 28:24Speaker 1: They like released him in after the Green Bay game.
- 28:27Speaker 1: He's the veteran in the room, and I so respect
- 28:31Speaker 1: the fact that Caleb's like still seeding respect to these
- 28:34Speaker 1: guys because some of them are older, some of them
- 28:36Speaker 1: have been there, and like Tyson Bagett started a couple
- 28:38Speaker 1: games in the NFL, and for that, Caleb respects it
- 28:41Speaker 1: and he's treating them like equals, at least from what
- 28:43Speaker 1: we can see, even though he's obviously the far superior talent. Overall,
- 28:49Speaker 1: I really loved the Giants off season hard Knocks. I'm
- 28:53Speaker 1: liking the Bears hard Knocks. One thing I thought was
- 28:57Speaker 1: really cool, which I don't recall ever, like being shown
- 29:01Speaker 1: Ryan Poles is trying to get Matthew Judon. In the
- 29:04Speaker 1: last episode, he's trying drap woman hands up, going to
- 29:07Speaker 1: Atlanta and the Ryan Poles basically is I'm not gonna
- 29:11Speaker 1: say that he said this, but like what I like,
- 29:13Speaker 1: trust the process in this one, where like all along,
- 29:17Speaker 1: like they wanted to sign him to an extension, Judnon
- 29:19Speaker 1: didn't want to sign an extension. They wanted to get
- 29:21Speaker 1: him locked up for long term. Judah wasn't looking to
- 29:23Speaker 1: do that, and like Poles was like, all right, then,
- 29:26Speaker 1: I guess we have to let him go somewhere else.
- 29:28Speaker 1: And Atlanta was willing to sign him and willing to
- 29:30Speaker 1: play him just on this one year deal and willing
- 29:33Speaker 1: to trade that third round pick. But like when a
- 29:35Speaker 1: trade is being discussed, usually teams are really cagey about
- 29:39Speaker 1: what gets out if it doesn't happen. The Bears have
- 29:42Speaker 1: final edit on Hard Knocks, and we're cool with having
- 29:45Speaker 1: that in there that like, hey, now, look if Matthew
- 29:47Speaker 1: Judon goes on and has twenty sacks or has fifteen
- 29:50Speaker 1: sacks and is a beast on Atlanta like the film's
- 29:53Speaker 1: out there that Poles was like, no, we're not gonna
- 29:57Speaker 1: bend on that thing. We're going to stick to the process,
- 29:59Speaker 1: which I don't know, I kind of respect.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it reminds me a lot of the like you
- 30:05Speaker 2: were mentioning the Giants hard knocks, where they're in the
- 30:08Speaker 2: room and they're saying, these are the receivers that we
- 30:11Speaker 2: would take. Yeah, we like neighbors over Rome, but if
- 30:16Speaker 2: Marvin Harrison is there, maybe we take him. Oh no,
- 30:18Speaker 2: actually I have neighbors over Marvin Harrison. All right. I
- 30:21Speaker 2: mean like hearing all those discussions come out so soon
- 30:25Speaker 2: after the draft, not ten years later, when we already
- 30:28Speaker 2: know some of the legacy of these players, it's it's
- 30:32Speaker 2: really interesting and it is a little risky.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, let's get to my ten breakout players of
- 30:49Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. Can we get some music? Can we
- 30:51Speaker 1: do some? Can you play me some? Can you play
- 30:54Speaker 1: me some jelly roll or some Chaboozi or we can't
- 30:56Speaker 1: do that.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Here is some non copyrighted Shahboozy esque music goes here.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Kevin Shaboozi inserted here. All right, here is my list.
- 31:08Speaker 1: If you're not aware where I was talking about Caleb
- 31:11Speaker 1: Williams and how he's not he walks that theme line
- 31:14Speaker 1: and kind of walks on the right side of not
- 31:16Speaker 1: being a cocky, arrogant asshole when it comes to my
- 31:19Speaker 1: preseason predictions. I'm on the way other end of that.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I am a absolute for brains, annoying person, insufferable in many ways.
- 31:28Speaker 1: But I usually am talking to the coaches throughout summer
- 31:32Speaker 1: and I'm always asking. And this is one thing that
- 31:33Speaker 1: I actually put work into. I say, give me a
- 31:36Speaker 1: breakout player that nobody's talking about. So, with no further ado,
- 31:40Speaker 1: ten players and I think are going to break out
- 31:43Speaker 1: standout seasons that aren't obvious names. We start out in
- 31:47Speaker 1: Denver with a five foot seven running back out of
- 31:51Speaker 1: Youngstown State. His name Jaliel McLaughlin. Jalil McLaughlin, twenty three
- 31:57Speaker 1: years old, played in every game last season. Okay, did
- 32:02Speaker 1: have seventy six carries, But he is your Darren Sprolls
- 32:06Speaker 1: of the twenty twenty four season. We know Javonte Williams
- 32:09Speaker 1: is going to be the headline guy. They drafted Isaac
- 32:14Speaker 1: Austin May out of college where he's going to get
- 32:16Speaker 1: a lot of carries. But Jalil McLaughlin Denver Broncos scatback
- 32:21Speaker 1: Darren Sprolls type. Now what I draft him in fantasy football? Maybe,
- 32:27Speaker 1: but I would say more than anything, he's the guy
- 32:29Speaker 1: that Scott Hansen's going to be like, Holy cow, We've
- 32:32Speaker 1: got another Joel McLaughlin play this week where he is
- 32:36Speaker 1: going to be the safety valve in a lot of
- 32:38Speaker 1: ways on third down and he's going to be one
- 32:40Speaker 1: of these dynamic players and special teams. Five foot seven
- 32:44Speaker 1: player for the Denver Broncos. Picture Darren Sprolls with the Saints.
- 32:48Speaker 1: That's what we're looking at. Number nine. A player who
- 32:51Speaker 1: was highlighted on Hard Knocks this week and I was
- 32:53Speaker 1: almost furious that they stole it from me because no
- 32:56Speaker 1: one's been talking about him. Punter for the Chicago Bears,
- 32:59Speaker 1: Tory Taylor. He is a twenty seven year old at
- 33:03Speaker 1: a Melbourne, Australia, was a Australian rules football player and
- 33:08Speaker 1: if you watch college football, you know he has been
- 33:11Speaker 1: dominant at Iowa, maybe the best player out of Iowa
- 33:15Speaker 1: in the last several seasons. And that includes all these
- 33:18Speaker 1: tight ends and defensive ends and the offensive linemen that
- 33:20Speaker 1: they've been churning out. Highest drafted punter since twenty nineteen
- 33:26Speaker 1: when the forty nine ers drafted Mitch with Shnowski the
- 33:29Speaker 1: Chicago Bears. And it's the Windy City and there's a
- 33:32Speaker 1: ton of elements. It's as if they drafted an offensive
- 33:35Speaker 1: weapon with this guy. Everything I have heard out of
- 33:38Speaker 1: camp is that he is an absolute game changer and
- 33:41Speaker 1: he will be a breakout player. Australian punter the first
- 33:45Speaker 1: time I ever put a punter on this list. Tory
- 33:47Speaker 1: Taylor is number nine. Number eight, we go to Buffalo
- 33:52Speaker 1: Khalil Shakir. Obvious reasons here. Gave Davis's gone, Stefan Diggs
- 33:57Speaker 1: is gone. Who's going to step up? I think Dalton
- 33:58Speaker 1: Kinkaid might end up being the biggest pass catcher in
- 34:01Speaker 1: this offense. I also think James Cook and Ray Davis
- 34:03Speaker 1: are going to play huge roles. Khalil Shakir is going
- 34:07Speaker 1: to have to have a career breakout season. He's entering
- 34:09Speaker 1: his third year. He's had some big plays. He was
- 34:12Speaker 1: the only Bills wide receiver besides Diggs and Davis with
- 34:15Speaker 1: more than two hundred receiving yards last year. Obviously, they
- 34:18Speaker 1: brought in Keyon Coleman. We've got some other veterans they've got,
- 34:21Speaker 1: but I think Shaki is going to have a huge
- 34:23Speaker 1: year for the Buffalo Bills. And Josh Allen has expressed
- 34:26Speaker 1: how much he likes throwing to the guy number seven
- 34:29Speaker 1: on the list. We go to Vegas and we go
- 34:30Speaker 1: to a pass rusher and it's not Max Crosby, and
- 34:33Speaker 1: it's not Christian Wilkins, and it is not their big
- 34:37Speaker 1: stud defensive end Tyree who they got last year in
- 34:40Speaker 1: the draft. It's Malcolm Kots out of Buffalo, twenty six
- 34:43Speaker 1: years old, third round pick twenty twenty one. Koons last
- 34:47Speaker 1: year very quietly ranked second on the Raiders in both
- 34:50Speaker 1: quarterback hits with seventeen and sacks, and all eight sacks
- 34:54Speaker 1: came under Antonio Pierce as the interim head coach. I
- 34:58Speaker 1: really like what Koons did. He's the kind of guy
- 35:00Speaker 1: on Buffalo that no one's talking about. But you'll be
- 35:03Speaker 1: shocked when you turn up and you're watching it. You're like,
- 35:05Speaker 1: holy shit, Malcolm Coons has you know, thirteen sacks this season?
- 35:09Speaker 1: Where did that come from? Well, there's a tension going
- 35:11Speaker 1: acrossby attention going to Wilkins, and I think Malcolm Coons
- 35:14Speaker 1: showed that he can do the job on the other
- 35:16Speaker 1: end of those guys. This season. Number six, we go
- 35:20Speaker 1: to New York and we don't go to the Jets,
- 35:21Speaker 1: we go to the Giants. Deonte Banks six foot two,
- 35:24Speaker 1: two hundred pound corner second year guy for New York.
- 35:27Speaker 1: He was drafted last year in the first round out
- 35:29Speaker 1: of Maryland. So much attention on Cavon Thibadeau, so much
- 35:33Speaker 1: attention on Dexter Lawrence. The Giants have quietly added some
- 35:37Speaker 1: real talent in the defensive backfield the last couple of years.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I like Banks, I like flat out of LSU. But
- 35:42Speaker 1: I think Banks enters the twenty twenty four season with
- 35:46Speaker 1: a lot of eyes on him. And think about the
- 35:47Speaker 1: guys in the division. AJ Brown, Deavonte Smith, Terry McLaurin,
- 35:50Speaker 1: Johan Dotson, CD Lamb, Brandon Cooks like he's going to
- 35:54Speaker 1: grab those number one players and he's gonna have to
- 35:56Speaker 1: do the job. Deontay Banks of the Giants is number six.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Let's keep rolling number five. Another defensive back I am going.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Brian Ranch for the Detroit Lions last year was a
- 36:10Speaker 1: second round pick out out of Alabama. Played in fifteen games,
- 36:14Speaker 1: had three interceptions, had a touchdown. He led Detroit with
- 36:17Speaker 1: thirteen passes defended. They were trying to pick on him
- 36:20Speaker 1: in the safety spot. I think he's an awesome player.
- 36:23Speaker 1: He showed flashes last year, missed a couple games with injuries.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I think Brian Branch steps up and has like one
- 36:29Speaker 1: of those all pros Pro Bowl seasons at the safety
- 36:32Speaker 1: spot for Detroit, working under the Great Aaron Glenn. Number four,
- 36:37Speaker 1: we go to Tampa and I'm going with a pass
- 36:40Speaker 1: rusher ya Ya Dyabi, Yes, Yaya Dabi ya Ya. Last
- 36:47Speaker 1: year had a breakout rookie moment or two. But I
- 36:50Speaker 1: think he's gonna put it all together. I'm gonna put
- 36:51Speaker 1: it on paper right now. Ya Ya. Dabby's gonna finish
- 36:54Speaker 1: in the top ten in sacks in the NFL. He
- 36:57Speaker 1: wears number zero. I love his game, I love his personality.
- 37:00Speaker 1: He does a whole dance when he gets a sack.
- 37:02Speaker 1: I think he's going to be electric this year. Ya
- 37:04Speaker 1: Ya Dabi as a pass rusher. Now we're down to
- 37:07Speaker 1: the final three. Number three is a third year tight
- 37:13Speaker 1: end for a team that I don't think I've mentioned
- 37:14Speaker 1: on the podcast since the draft, maybe when they took
- 37:17Speaker 1: a wide receiver at third overall. I'm going or fourth overall.
- 37:21Speaker 1: I'm going Trey McBride out of the Arizona Cardinals organization.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Completely anonymous team right now on offense. But just wait,
- 37:30Speaker 1: he and Kyler started picking things up at the end
- 37:33Speaker 1: of the year. He led Arizona last season with one
- 37:36Speaker 1: hundred and six targets. He also had eighty one catches
- 37:39Speaker 1: with almost one thousand receiving guards. He was second on
- 37:42Speaker 1: Arizona and receiving touchdowns too, and I think he's only
- 37:45Speaker 1: going to get better. Trey McBride tight end. We always
- 37:48Speaker 1: talk about Kelsey and Kittle, and then Laporta entered the
- 37:52Speaker 1: conversation last year, and everyone's waiting on Pits, Everyone's waiting
- 37:55Speaker 1: on Hockinson. Hockinson's had some big games and obviously has
- 37:58Speaker 1: had some big seasons. I think Trey McBride emerges this
- 38:02Speaker 1: year and he's that dude. All Right, we're down to
- 38:05Speaker 1: the final two. We preface this, Yere. I was really
- 38:09Speaker 1: tempted to put Bijon Robinson in this top two. Aaron,
- 38:14Speaker 1: you're listening to this. If I was to go on
- 38:16Speaker 1: Good Morning Football Friday and I'm like, Bjeon Robinson's my
- 38:19Speaker 1: breakout player. Would you say he's already broken out or
- 38:22Speaker 1: would you say that's fair?
- 38:24Speaker 2: I would say he's not broken out because I think
- 38:28Speaker 2: I think that what his potential is and what everyone
- 38:31Speaker 2: expected from him last year, he didn't quite reach. He
- 38:34Speaker 2: looked incredible. He was my favorite player to watch with
- 38:37Speaker 2: the overhead cam where it follows him and you see
- 38:40Speaker 2: him drinking everyone out. He was incredible, but it was
- 38:43Speaker 2: just like I want him to be CMC, like I
- 38:46Speaker 2: want him to be okay, amazing.
- 38:49Speaker 1: So I've got to make a decision because I'm putting
- 38:51Speaker 1: this list out. So far, I love my list. Number
- 38:55Speaker 1: two of my list is certainly not a breakout player yet,
- 38:57Speaker 1: so I think he qualifies. But I also like Bijeon
- 39:02Speaker 1: as my number one guy, and right now I don't
- 39:03Speaker 1: have him on the list. Tell me how you would
- 39:05Speaker 1: sort this out and if I can have a time
- 39:06Speaker 1: for first. Number two is Kenneth Walker the third? Okay,
- 39:11Speaker 1: I love this guy's game and he was a second
- 39:14Speaker 1: round pick in the twenty twenty two NFL draft, but
- 39:16Speaker 1: he has been hampered with injury. He's had one thousand
- 39:19Speaker 1: scrimmag yards and nine touchdowns in each of his first
- 39:22Speaker 1: two seasons. He's the first player in Seahawks' history to
- 39:25Speaker 1: do that. But he hasn't had that breakout year, and
- 39:28Speaker 1: he hasn't certainly had that year where you're like, holy cow,
- 39:31Speaker 1: He's one of those guys. I think Kenneth Walker is
- 39:34Speaker 1: one of those guys. And I think so in this
- 39:38Speaker 1: grub offense, that that's the offensive coordinator in Seattle. And
- 39:42Speaker 1: I go back to Mike McDonald coaching against Kenneth Walker
- 39:47Speaker 1: in college, and Kenneth Walker was playing for Michigan State
- 39:50Speaker 1: and Mike McDonald was for Michigan, And I might ask
- 39:52Speaker 1: you to google this so we could patch this together
- 39:54Speaker 1: so it's quicker. What were the numbers that Kenneth Walker
- 39:58Speaker 1: had against Michigan his final year as a Michigan State spartan,
- 40:03Speaker 1: because Mike McDonald was the defensive coordinator for the Michigan
- 40:06Speaker 1: Wolverines that day.
- 40:07Speaker 2: And if you have it up there, just that game,
- 40:11Speaker 2: just that one.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Game, that one game. I think it was twenty twenty.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Two, So I can give you a small bit of
- 40:18Speaker 2: what he had twenty twenty twenty.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Let's think here, how if the twenty twenty two draft
- 40:23Speaker 1: is where he was selected, give me twenty twenty one
- 40:27Speaker 1: Michigan State versus Michigan Kenneth Walker's statline.
- 40:30Speaker 2: He ran for one hundred and ninety three yards and
- 40:33Speaker 2: five touchdowns.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Get the hell out of here with that. So if
- 40:37Speaker 1: your head coach is like, all right, I'm taking the
- 40:39Speaker 1: job in Seattle, and I got this charbonnet and I've
- 40:43Speaker 1: got you know, a DK Metcalf and a gino Oh,
- 40:47Speaker 1: I've got that guy. That guy terrorized me. Trust me.
- 40:50Speaker 1: They know what he can do. And I think that
- 40:53Speaker 1: game's highlights just like played tricks and Mike McDonald said
- 40:56Speaker 1: he's the new head coach of Seattle. That was good.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Maybe I'll make it too much of a deal of it.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Everything I hear is that he's healthy. He's the dude.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker is number two, which leads to number one.
- 41:05Speaker 1: I have to fix this and do something. So I'm
- 41:07Speaker 1: gonna unveil this on Good Morning Football, and it's gonna
- 41:09Speaker 1: be like here's Sugger's listenever, and I might find a
- 41:12Speaker 1: way to be artful about this. I might move Walker back,
- 41:14Speaker 1: I might scratch branch whatever, We'll figure it out. Number
- 41:18Speaker 1: one on my lists is Jaden Daniels. Jaden Daniels to
- 41:24Speaker 1: the Washington Commanders. And maybe I'm being asymmetric because everyone's
- 41:28Speaker 1: talking about Klub and I just think that I think
- 41:31Speaker 1: Jayden Daniel is gonna be the offensive rookie of the year.
- 41:34Speaker 1: I think he's gonna have a CJ. Stroud like season,
- 41:38Speaker 1: and I go by. Cliff Kingsbury is offensive coordinator, raving
- 41:41Speaker 1: about him to me, and I go by knowing that
- 41:45Speaker 1: Cliff had Kyler as a rookie and was able to
- 41:47Speaker 1: get him going right from go Kyler was great his
- 41:49Speaker 1: rookie year. It was really fun to watch. I go by.
- 41:52Speaker 1: This quarterback has played in so many big games, has
- 41:56Speaker 1: played against so much a list competition, and has been
- 42:00Speaker 1: so good in camp that this is my asymmetric thing.
- 42:03Speaker 1: I'm putting Jaden Daniels as my break out player of
- 42:07Speaker 1: the year. And then you're gonna say, well, where does
- 42:09Speaker 1: Caleb fall on that list? And I'm like, I don't know.
- 42:11Speaker 1: I think Caleb is good too, or where's Botnicks go?
- 42:14Speaker 1: I don't know. But like Aaron before, as of workshopping this,
- 42:18Speaker 1: how do you do you put bijon one and maybe
- 42:21Speaker 1: put Jayden two and Walker three? And then or do
- 42:25Speaker 1: I is it more? You know, boom, It's I go,
- 42:28Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels is the breakout player of the year.
- 42:30Speaker 2: I mean Jayden Daniels number one?
- 42:32Speaker 1: Is that?
- 42:34Speaker 2: I like that?
- 42:35Speaker 1: And you know Caleb on the list. It's like a station.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Yeah right, I think you know, like you're saying, Caleb
- 42:41Speaker 2: is looks incredible, but Caleb also has this incredible supporting cast.
- 42:46Speaker 2: And not that Terry McLaurin is not a great wide receiver,
- 42:51Speaker 2: but he is not DJ Moore, Keenan, Allen Roman doonsay
- 42:57Speaker 2: and I love Johan Dotson. I think you know, I
- 42:59Speaker 2: think Johan Dotson is like a very good player. He
- 43:02Speaker 2: has incredible hands, and he he's just seems like a
- 43:05Speaker 2: nice guy. Like watching interviews with him. He didn't follow
- 43:09Speaker 2: up his rookie year last year, and so there the
- 43:14Speaker 2: the Washington team is like brand new, and if Jade
- 43:17Speaker 2: and Daniels can overcome that and have a really high
- 43:20Speaker 2: perform in year as a rookie, that would be So what.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Do you do with my Bijon?
- 43:27Speaker 2: I love that?
- 43:27Speaker 1: Do you include him? Do you say last year he
- 43:29Speaker 1: broke out? Do I stick him in there? And I
- 43:32Speaker 1: mean Brian Branch is a safety. If I don't put
- 43:34Speaker 1: Brian Branch on this list, no one's gonna blink twice?
- 43:36Speaker 1: Do I go ya ya at five? Okay? Four? Kenneth Walker.
- 43:46Speaker 2: I like Kenneth above Bijon as a breakout.
- 43:50Speaker 1: I think Jon's better than Kenneth. Who'd I have?
- 43:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you had try McBride at three, you had yah
- 43:56Speaker 2: yah at four, McBride at three.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Okay, so let's go this that. We're gonna workshop this
- 44:01Speaker 1: five Yah yeah for McBride three, Walker two, Bjeon one,
- 44:17Speaker 1: Jaden And is that like holy, that's it? Or someone
- 44:20Speaker 1: at home gonna say, how is Bijon Robinson a breakout player?
- 44:24Speaker 1: He's going first overall in fantasy? Maybe I just scrap
- 44:26Speaker 1: Bejon altogether.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Say yeah, I think if you left Bijeon off, no
- 44:29Speaker 2: one would be would be like Wow, He's He's forgetting
- 44:33Speaker 2: the most obvious thing because I think, like me saying
- 44:37Speaker 2: Bijeon is not has not broken out yet, is more
- 44:41Speaker 2: because of how high I think he can get. I
- 44:43Speaker 2: think he looked amazing last year.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Okay, with no further ado, we have our list. That's it. Uh.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Programming note, Good morning Football. Thursday morning, I'll be at
- 44:55Speaker 1: Jets camp. I'm watching practice, interviewing Aaron Rodgers, not for
- 44:59Speaker 1: the show, but for my production meeting needs Friday, standard
- 45:05Speaker 1: issue whatever, Saturday, CBS Local, New York. I'll be with
- 45:12Speaker 1: Iron Eagle, and I'm calling the Jets Giants preseason game.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Let's hope we get some starters. If not, I better
- 45:19Speaker 1: do some research quick. I've been doing it, but like gosh,
- 45:22Speaker 1: there's only so much Quantes Stiggers information I can offer you.
- 45:25Speaker 1: He's the chance defensive back. That's a rookie. We'll see.
- 45:30Speaker 1: I hope to do a good job, but who knows.
- 45:33Speaker 1: And then next week I'm all from Good Morning Football,
- 45:36Speaker 1: one last breath, but I think we still might be
- 45:39Speaker 1: able to do a podcast next week. Maybe I'll get
- 45:41Speaker 1: a guest. I announced Colton McCoy's retirement. We did that
- 45:44Speaker 1: in coordination. I love Colt. He texted me and was like,
- 45:47Speaker 1: why don't you announce it? And then you can get
- 45:49Speaker 1: some love for it, and then I can just follow up.
- 45:52Speaker 1: And so maybe I'll get Colt on here because I
- 45:54Speaker 1: think he's got great stories and it's always been good there.
- 45:58Speaker 1: It is forty five minutes. That's a podcast, bro. We
- 46:00Speaker 1: went from Jelly roll to the honor roll of my
- 46:04Speaker 1: top ten Aaron. He said with Peter Schreger, what do
- 46:07Speaker 1: you say?
- 46:08Speaker 2: I love it? Awesome for soon, all right, let's go
- 46:10Speaker 2: buy some expensive baseball cards.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I know I want a ya Yad d Yadi card. Today.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Was ya Yad signing autographs or just.
- 46:18Speaker 2: I don't think any Yeah, they were in camp.
- 46:34Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 46:37Speaker 1: NFL and partnership with iHeartRadio. For more podcasts from iHeartRadio,
