- 0:42Speaker 1: All right, welcome o wow to Patriots Unfiltered. I'm not
- 0:46Speaker 1: going to talk much. I tapped my first KEG. Now
- 0:49Speaker 1: you would think, Brett, you went to college. Yeah, but
- 0:52Speaker 1: this is a real case. So you're saying in college
- 0:54Speaker 1: when I many times just kind of pushing twist that
- 0:57Speaker 1: that doesn't I haven't tapped it yet. I haven't tapped
- 1:00Speaker 1: never even did that. He just showed up by people,
- 1:02Speaker 1: did it. That's probably why I started blogging. With somebody's
- 1:04Speaker 1: flying around the stadium with like a like Asterix plane.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I got so mad I had to blog about it,
- 1:09Speaker 1: saying Mac isn't the guy and that he's over Max.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So you get mad, though, Chad get mad. They don't.
- 1:14Speaker 1: They don't have the opinions that you want. That's difference
- 1:17Speaker 1: between you and Fred. Fred just reads them without bias.
- 1:19Speaker 1: He just reads the emails. Am I allowed to call
- 1:21Speaker 1: out other PU listeners slash callers? If so, I would
- 1:24Speaker 1: like to call out Todd and North Carolina for being
- 1:26Speaker 1: a fraud. A week or two ago, you called him
- 1:28Speaker 1: out for all the background noise when he called into
- 1:30Speaker 1: the show. He claimed he didn't know why there was
- 1:32Speaker 1: so much noise, and then he might have been doing
- 1:34Speaker 1: dishes or something. I have a hard time believing this story.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Let's go to Todd and North Carolina. Todd, if you
- 1:39Speaker 1: called it perfect, if you did that on purpose, me,
- 1:44Speaker 1: that was well done. My friend is Patriot's Unfiltered fueled
- 1:49Speaker 1: by Dunking. All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is
- 1:55Speaker 1: Wednesday here at Gillette Stadium, and uh, it's Deuce, it's Paul,
- 1:59Speaker 1: it's me, it's Matt Evan will be by later. Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 1: well a lot of visitors today, A lot of visitors. Yeah,
- 2:05Speaker 1: maybe I don't know, Andy round, maybe we get Wednesday
- 2:08Speaker 1: shows must listen, that's the thousands. You never know, who's
- 2:10Speaker 1: ever know who's gonna come in. What kind of Wednesdays
- 2:12Speaker 1: turned out to be the day? Yeah, yeah, it gets
- 2:16Speaker 1: Wednesday Fun Day flashback with Andy will film talk with
- 2:19Speaker 1: Evan and the girls in here. So I don't know,
- 2:20Speaker 1: we'll see everybody's at Bill right now, so I'm sure
- 2:22Speaker 1: they'll be trickling. I got my voice back. That was
- 2:24Speaker 1: most tough listening to that, U rejoiner. It wasn't a rejoiner,
- 2:28Speaker 1: just a joiner. Right. It's tough going overseas and open. Thanks,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'm learning the lingo. So while Bill is in the
- 2:35Speaker 1: middle of his press conference little terms open, he seems
- 2:39Speaker 1: to be in a decent mood. Jets of the Jets. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 1: Jets are the Jets. Uh, you know, I'm seeing and
- 2:45Speaker 1: I'm glad that people are taking this one seriously. But biggest,
- 2:48Speaker 1: biggest Jets game here in a decade? Is that you
- 2:50Speaker 1: think this is the biggest game here since since that
- 2:52Speaker 1: playoff game? My god, I don't rank them. I don't know.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I mean, it's you know now that you say you
- 2:58Speaker 1: have to start thinking back I guess it's hard to
- 3:01Speaker 1: imagine a meaningful one. I think that year that I
- 3:04Speaker 1: brought up yesterday and I maybe sixteen ish when the
- 3:09Speaker 1: Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Ryan Fitzpatrick, they had a chance
- 3:13Speaker 1: to win that game. I think in sort of solidify
- 3:16Speaker 1: a playoff spot. I think they won ten games that
- 3:19Speaker 1: year and fell excuse me the tailpipe. Yeah, I'm still
- 3:24Speaker 1: fighting the stupid cough. Um, you're not gonna fall bad. Yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 1: it's not. The COVID I was tested. Thanks, Thanks for
- 3:33Speaker 1: the concern though, covid bro. You and vote can go
- 3:35Speaker 1: and make sure everybody's getting their tests Covid covid bro.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Um that that one was. That one might might have
- 3:43Speaker 1: been in in the conversation. You know, they've had some
- 3:47Speaker 1: some decent games, but you know, in terms of implications
- 3:51Speaker 1: on both sides, this one's up there. Yeah. I mean,
- 3:54Speaker 1: I would say the forty five to three one which
- 3:56Speaker 1: came yea four was still kind of a meaning full games,
- 4:01Speaker 1: A big game lost earlier in the season, and you know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you had some questions, but well, a lot of people,
- 4:06Speaker 1: you know a lot of people say, well, you know,
- 4:07Speaker 1: if if you have playoff aspirations, is the must win
- 4:10Speaker 1: for the Patriots. It's also a must win for the Jets,
- 4:13Speaker 1: Isn't it pretty much less so for them? But yes,
- 4:17Speaker 1: I would, I would call it a must win for
- 4:18Speaker 1: both sides. But I think for the Patriots to be
- 4:20Speaker 1: two games behind the entire division, Yeah, and you have
- 4:24Speaker 1: to pass two of those teams for wild cards, that's hard. Yeah.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I mean, I think I may said a little bit yesterday,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but I feel like this this game kind of sets
- 4:31Speaker 1: the floor for the Patriots season. And you know, not
- 4:34Speaker 1: that I think they're going to lose the games going out,
- 4:36Speaker 1: but I think that you could make a case that
- 4:37Speaker 1: they would lose every game after this, Like you could
- 4:39Speaker 1: make an easy case that they lose to all these
- 4:41Speaker 1: teams that they have lined up, Buffalo, Miami, Arizona. You know.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not saying it's going to happen. You can't,
- 4:49Speaker 1: but you could make the case into Mike's point. And
- 4:52Speaker 1: you know, this is somewhat interesting given the fact that
- 4:54Speaker 1: one of the teams that they play is two and
- 4:55Speaker 1: seven currently. But according to Vegas, as of now, this
- 5:00Speaker 1: is the last game on the schedule, the Patriots are favored.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Is that right? So things can change? I mean when
- 5:05Speaker 1: when they play the Cardinals, when they played the Raiders,
- 5:08Speaker 1: when they played the Bengals. Who knows they could be favored,
- 5:11Speaker 1: but not right now they're not. So Yeah, to Mike's point,
- 5:18Speaker 1: nobody believes that everybody against us, you got you gotta
- 5:21Speaker 1: win this one. I think it's a must win. I do. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 1: me too, me too, And I mean it's it just
- 5:26Speaker 1: gives you a chance to make all these games interesting
- 5:28Speaker 1: going forward, not to say that they won't. And I mean,
- 5:30Speaker 1: even if they were to lose this game, which I
- 5:32Speaker 1: think is a possibility for sure, you know, I think
- 5:35Speaker 1: they can still bounce back and be talking to Evan
- 5:37Speaker 1: a little bit about Minnesota. I mean, all those teams
- 5:39Speaker 1: I can, like you probably, like Paul said, they're not favored,
- 5:42Speaker 1: so you would say I can make a case for Minnesota.
- 5:45Speaker 1: They they're what are they what's their records at seven
- 5:47Speaker 1: eight one, one eight and one right now? Um, But
- 5:49Speaker 1: you know, I think they'll they'll give those teams some
- 5:51Speaker 1: some challenges, but this is just one to start things
- 5:54Speaker 1: off against the team that's gonna come here and play hard.
- 5:57Speaker 1: And I think it's just it's about Zach Wilson, And
- 5:59Speaker 1: you know, it's just looking too at his stats from
- 6:01Speaker 1: last week. I mean, I mean that he didn't throw
- 6:03Speaker 1: any interceptions in any of the other three games around
- 6:06Speaker 1: this Patriots game, Like this Patriots game was three of
- 6:08Speaker 1: them and then none two before and none against Buffalo.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So it's just, you know, kind of interesting that that
- 6:13Speaker 1: stands out as Zax Wilson's you know, since he came
- 6:16Speaker 1: back last year. Remember he got hurt in the Patriots
- 6:19Speaker 1: game last year, the second Patriots game in Foxborough. He
- 6:22Speaker 1: left that game in the first quarter. Since he came
- 6:26Speaker 1: back from that, both him and Mac Jones have played
- 6:29Speaker 1: thirteen games and they both seven and six, and that
- 6:33Speaker 1: in that stretch. Max's stats are slightly better. Mac is
- 6:38Speaker 1: thirteen touchdowns, thirteen picks in those thirteen games and Zach
- 6:45Speaker 1: Wilson is nine touchdowns, seven picks. But to Mike's point,
- 6:48Speaker 1: three of those happened in the Patriots game. Three of
- 6:51Speaker 1: those seven picks in thirteen games happened in one game.
- 6:54Speaker 1: So you can see what the formula is for New York.
- 6:58Speaker 1: You know, get him on the straight and narrow and
- 7:02Speaker 1: make sure he protects the football and they have a
- 7:04Speaker 1: chance to win. Yep. I mean, you know, Bill said, uh,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know, they're probably gonna have some wrinkles for us,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and we'll have wrinkles for them. I mean the wrinkles
- 7:13Speaker 1: for them is, you know, don't let Zack Wilson throw
- 7:16Speaker 1: the ball forty fifty times, right exactly. I mean that's
- 7:19Speaker 1: all I'm saying. If I'm the Jets, just don't make
- 7:22Speaker 1: stupid decisions and let's just see where the chips fall
- 7:24Speaker 1: with this team. No need to push it. This isn't
- 7:26Speaker 1: an offense that's gonna, you know, drive us crazy and
- 7:29Speaker 1: we have all kinds of problems. Just don't make the
- 7:31Speaker 1: game killing mistake. I mean, I think the way Evan
- 7:33Speaker 1: kind of summed it up of which quarterback is going
- 7:35Speaker 1: to make the big mistake is might be what it
- 7:37Speaker 1: comes down to. If you want to boil it down
- 7:38Speaker 1: to one thing. I am concerned about the Jets defense.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I think it's legit who like sound like me? Yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you get them, you know, so they're solid, you know,
- 7:52Speaker 1: front and back, So it could be another slobber knocker.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah they I mean they got players at every level.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I mean I think that's what you're starting to see
- 8:01Speaker 1: come into into the picture. And even thinking beyond the
- 8:04Speaker 1: Jets of this year. I mean, they're gonna get Breese
- 8:05Speaker 1: all back next year. You know they've got these first
- 8:08Speaker 1: round picks. Quinnon Williams is you know, really playing up
- 8:10Speaker 1: to his potential. He's on pace to set career highs
- 8:13Speaker 1: and pretty much everything. He's already tied his career high
- 8:15Speaker 1: in sacks. Sauce Gardner looks legit Mosley, you know, great
- 8:19Speaker 1: middle linebackers. I mean you just you see the pieces
- 8:21Speaker 1: are falling into place for the Jets, and you know,
- 8:24Speaker 1: you wonder after this game, what direction does it kind
- 8:27Speaker 1: of go? How? You know, if they were to win
- 8:28Speaker 1: this game, are they ready to you know, take a
- 8:30Speaker 1: step like that and really really step forward? Or if
- 8:33Speaker 1: they lose this game, are they going to kind of
- 8:36Speaker 1: go back to a wallowing and oh man, we just can't. Like,
- 8:38Speaker 1: you know, the Patriots still kind of that that problem
- 8:41Speaker 1: team from But I really do think that, you know,
- 8:43Speaker 1: they look at the game last game they play with
- 8:45Speaker 1: us as when they let get away. Yeah, so both
- 8:49Speaker 1: teams are coming off wins. Their their win was more
- 8:52Speaker 1: impressive than ours, but um, you know I would think
- 8:55Speaker 1: that you know, they don't want to let happen what
- 8:59Speaker 1: happened last time. Yeah, and that just starts with Zach Wilson.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And I think, like Paul said yesterday, just to get
- 9:04Speaker 1: him straight and lock him in a room and you know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: just I think that's the step he has to take.
- 9:10Speaker 1: But um anywhere unquote Corey Davis, that was one I
- 9:13Speaker 1: wasn't quite sure if he's Sala said, he's not, probably
- 9:16Speaker 1: not going to practice today. M Sheldon Rankin's also who's
- 9:20Speaker 1: one of their you know they rotate a lot of
- 9:22Speaker 1: bodies up front. He's one of them with Quinnin Williams.
- 9:25Speaker 1: So yeah, friend of Myers good too. And then there's
- 9:27Speaker 1: one of the um offensive lineman Herbieger or something like that.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I think is um questionable, Um not going to practice
- 9:36Speaker 1: today either. So they're personnel wise, I think they're in
- 9:40Speaker 1: decent shape. The Jets, I mean, I mean obviously, yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 1: Breece Hall's not coming back, Barat Tucker is not coming back.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You know, those guys have been out for the year. Um.
- 9:49Speaker 1: But and we'll see. I agree with you a point
- 9:52Speaker 1: though about you know, the makeup of the roster, because
- 9:56Speaker 1: if you can get the quarterback straight, and that's a
- 9:58Speaker 1: huge Jeff, I mean, the Patriots are trying to do
- 9:59Speaker 1: the same thing right now. Both teams are in the
- 10:02Speaker 1: same boat quarterback wise, they have they have young quarterbacks
- 10:05Speaker 1: who are struggling badly. So you look at the stuff
- 10:10Speaker 1: around it. When you get Bruce Hall back and Michael
- 10:12Speaker 1: Carter as a you know, I think an interesting you know,
- 10:15Speaker 1: interesting secondary, you know, passing kind of back. You get
- 10:18Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson with forty two catches in his rookie year.
- 10:21Speaker 1: It's a good solid rookie season for a wide receiver,
- 10:23Speaker 1: especially on a passing attack that, let's face it is limited.
- 10:28Speaker 1: You know, those are pretty good numbers got you know,
- 10:31Speaker 1: you got a veteran in Corey Davis that you know,
- 10:33Speaker 1: it's on the outside. Elijah Moore has been a disappointment lately,
- 10:37Speaker 1: but certainly has the ability. Um you know, and even
- 10:40Speaker 1: Denzel Mims has stepped up and made some place for
- 10:42Speaker 1: them the last couple of weeks. He made a couple
- 10:45Speaker 1: against the Patriots in that game. This this piece is
- 10:48Speaker 1: in place to have a decent offense there. We know
- 10:50Speaker 1: what they can do on defense. Mike already talked about
- 10:53Speaker 1: all the personnel they have on that side of the ball.
- 10:55Speaker 1: If if Zach Wilson can get to the level, not
- 11:00Speaker 1: star level, just you know, serviceable game manager level. They
- 11:04Speaker 1: can win games. They have a good enough rush to
- 11:06Speaker 1: win games. Now, can they win a title? Not unless
- 11:09Speaker 1: he gets markedly better. They won't be a threat if
- 11:12Speaker 1: he's just managing the game. But if he can be
- 11:14Speaker 1: a playmaker and avoid the mistakes, then they become dangerous.
- 11:18Speaker 1: You see some of the Jets fans and blogger types
- 11:20Speaker 1: that I tend to mingle with, bog my boy, Joe
- 11:25Speaker 1: Caproso turn on the Jets. But you know, I mean
- 11:27Speaker 1: you are to a good point, Paul. Him and Mac
- 11:29Speaker 1: are kind of similar numbers right now. But I think
- 11:32Speaker 1: you could go back to when they were coming out,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and you know, Zach Wilson still has that arm that
- 11:37Speaker 1: you knew we had coming out, and so it's like
- 11:40Speaker 1: you're both kind of hoping for the same thing. I
- 11:42Speaker 1: think Patriots fans are just hoping, can Mac just settle down,
- 11:44Speaker 1: stop making the mistakes, take take what's there. But I
- 11:47Speaker 1: don't think that I have still have the ceiling hopes
- 11:50Speaker 1: for Mac that even as like a Jets fan hoping
- 11:52Speaker 1: the same thing for that, Can he just take the
- 11:53Speaker 1: plays that they're there, because then once he does I
- 11:55Speaker 1: feel like he might actually be able to use some
- 11:58Speaker 1: of the skill sets that make him stand out and
- 12:00Speaker 1: that made him, you know, a top three pick in
- 12:03Speaker 1: the league. So he still has some of that intrigue,
- 12:05Speaker 1: but it's just the mistakes for him to clean it up.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Can he just come in be a game manager kind
- 12:11Speaker 1: of like Sanchez? Did? I mean to keep bringing that
- 12:12Speaker 1: up in twenty ten, but you know, just I mean,
- 12:15Speaker 1: certainly I remember one touchdown he threw that it just
- 12:17Speaker 1: absolutely laser Antonio Holmes in the back of the end zone,
- 12:20Speaker 1: you know, but it was a lot of just you know,
- 12:22Speaker 1: distribute the ball, don't make the key mistakes, and that
- 12:24Speaker 1: that's the kind of game that scares me. What's the
- 12:25Speaker 1: weather supposed to be like for Sunday? We should gets cow.
- 12:29Speaker 1: We haven't let me check. I don't know. I think
- 12:32Speaker 1: it's I think it's nice. It's like in the in
- 12:33Speaker 1: the forties. But Sonny, yeah, yeah, Sonny for thirty nine degrees,
- 12:38Speaker 1: so perfect football football weather. Maybe a little chili tell
- 12:42Speaker 1: him it might be a blizzard in Buffalo. Yeah, that too.
- 12:45Speaker 1: So could have to Shaun Watson making his potential. Oh no,
- 12:49Speaker 1: he didn't play. He can't play. It. He's just practiced,
- 12:51Speaker 1: just practice. I see, I saw you just getting starting
- 12:54Speaker 1: to get some some reps. So good for the couple. More.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I believe he comes back against Houston. It's interesting how
- 13:02Speaker 1: that works. The suspension. He was able to wake eleven then, yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 1: it's eleven games he had to he has to sit
- 13:07Speaker 1: eleven games. That was the suspension, but he's allowed to
- 13:10Speaker 1: put a couple to ramp the ramp up. They give
- 13:12Speaker 1: you the ramp up, so that would be a week twelve. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 1: who they got, but maybe they can cause some problems
- 13:18Speaker 1: here down the stretch. Yeah. Baltimore, New Orleans, Washington, Pittsburgh.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Not really um, but yeah, well goat play Cincinnati. How
- 13:27Speaker 1: do you feel Another thing I was thinking about watch
- 13:29Speaker 1: I was walking out yesterday a little cold. Um, you know,
- 13:32Speaker 1: how do you feel about Mac and the weather now?
- 13:34Speaker 1: Like I think that's another kind of thing that like,
- 13:36Speaker 1: you know, we we we talked about at least wars
- 13:38Speaker 1: right now with him. I know, it's just it's something
- 13:41Speaker 1: again though last year you felt like you had to
- 13:43Speaker 1: kind of build off of that, and I think he
- 13:45Speaker 1: thought it was an issue dealing with with weather and
- 13:47Speaker 1: being a Florida kid. Not really having to deal with it.
- 13:49Speaker 1: So you know, things are starting to get cold now.
- 13:51Speaker 1: So I just wonder if that's you know, it's something
- 13:53Speaker 1: else for him. They didn't he make his weather tour.
- 13:56Speaker 1: He went to all the different climates and practiced in
- 13:58Speaker 1: the different climates. We'll see if it pace. I don't
- 14:01Speaker 1: think he did in cold weather in July. How do
- 14:05Speaker 1: you think he found much sitting in a hockey rate?
- 14:08Speaker 1: Do you work out in Antarctica? I think he did.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I think he went up to Antarctica and worked out
- 14:12Speaker 1: on an iceberg. Can you really adjust to that though?
- 14:14Speaker 1: I mean, like I just I don't know. I mean,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I understand what he was trying to do. Um, but
- 14:20Speaker 1: it's like getting cold some cold weather. You can't simulate
- 14:24Speaker 1: what it's gonna be like in the middle of December
- 14:26Speaker 1: and julyte Stadium. You know, that was what I thought
- 14:29Speaker 1: when I was walking out Roland. Hey mister Dartmouth this
- 14:31Speaker 1: year today, Oh boy, he's got to do his real
- 14:33Speaker 1: job first before he correct graces us with his take
- 14:37Speaker 1: his I like it when people say where's Andy these days? Yeah? No, nobody.
- 14:45Speaker 1: You even got him to laugh on that one. Tune
- 14:49Speaker 1: into whatever happened. Whatever happened to Andy? He's still here? Right,
- 14:56Speaker 1: come down on the Wednesday shows. All right? Eight five
- 14:58Speaker 1: five pass five hundred is a sickn outline. Web radio
- 15:01Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com is the email address. Who would
- 15:04Speaker 1: you rather have? Fred, Zach Wilson and Mac Jones? Oh,
- 15:10Speaker 1: I did not expect that, Boss. I don't think. I
- 15:14Speaker 1: have to be honest, I did not anticipate that. Pause. Um,
- 15:19Speaker 1: I think that having someone with physical tools, assuming that
- 15:24Speaker 1: he's got a head on his shoulders, is intriguing with
- 15:26Speaker 1: Bill Belichick. Yeah, I don't think say that's what I
- 15:30Speaker 1: fall back on that a lot. Like you can't tell
- 15:33Speaker 1: me how great Bill is and then not take that
- 15:36Speaker 1: into consideration when you're comparing the two quarterbacks. So like
- 15:40Speaker 1: you watch Zach Wilson make all these mistakes, I can't
- 15:43Speaker 1: assume that they would be he'd be making all those
- 15:45Speaker 1: mistakes if Bill Belichick is as great as you tell
- 15:47Speaker 1: me he is, you know, And I don't mean you,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I mean the royal you as you know. But but
- 15:53Speaker 1: you know, I don't want to get into I mean,
- 15:56Speaker 1: we have Mac Jones, they have Zach Wilson. I don't
- 15:59Speaker 1: wish it was a kind of don't want to get
- 16:00Speaker 1: it into a rabbit hole. But no, I don't either.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Your show yesterday, they just can't get off the topic
- 16:05Speaker 1: of it. It's a Bill or Tom, Bill or Tom.
- 16:07Speaker 1: And it was because of the little Sean McCoy thing, Yeah,
- 16:10Speaker 1: you should set up like it was. There was like
- 16:12Speaker 1: a new element to it. Yeah, Sean McCoy interrupted Kay
- 16:16Speaker 1: Adams in the middle of a question to disagree with
- 16:20Speaker 1: the premise that Belichick is the greatest coach ever. That's
- 16:23Speaker 1: how they got started on it, which I only caught
- 16:25Speaker 1: bits and pieces of, But I think a lot of
- 16:28Speaker 1: what he says it always kind of catches highlights, catches headlines,
- 16:32Speaker 1: and people say things about it. But I mean, I
- 16:34Speaker 1: just I feel like he's only saying that, like he's
- 16:37Speaker 1: not this magical genius that can just wave It wasn't
- 16:41Speaker 1: a pretty fair It was a pretty fair summation. He
- 16:45Speaker 1: wasn't telling you that Belichick is not a great coach.
- 16:47Speaker 1: He's just saying like he's kind of like a lot
- 16:49Speaker 1: of other great coaches. When you take away his great player,
- 16:53Speaker 1: he's not quite as great. But the reason I brought
- 16:55Speaker 1: that up is because one of the things that I
- 16:58Speaker 1: don't think you can argue that he taught Brady was
- 17:01Speaker 1: the attention to details. You know, it's the preparation that
- 17:05Speaker 1: you know, that type of thing. Well, why can't you
- 17:07Speaker 1: argue that because I think I think Tom has said so,
- 17:11Speaker 1: I think Brady benefited greatly from Bill Belichim. Yeah, but
- 17:14Speaker 1: I mean, you know exactly what would have happened if
- 17:18Speaker 1: he didn't have I can't argue that I would have happened.
- 17:20Speaker 1: But but like that's something that like I don't think,
- 17:23Speaker 1: you know, Bill taught him how to be accurate or
- 17:25Speaker 1: any of that stuff. But I think I think one
- 17:27Speaker 1: of the things that he did teach Tom is is
- 17:30Speaker 1: you know that that discipline, you know, preparing for another team,
- 17:34Speaker 1: the attention to detail, you know, that whole thing. And
- 17:37Speaker 1: I have to think if if Wilson was here, you'd
- 17:40Speaker 1: be teaching him the same thing, and maybe that would
- 17:43Speaker 1: reduce mistakes. But then you could also argue against myself
- 17:46Speaker 1: and say, well Max making mistakes and he's PILs his coach.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yeah you know so yeah, but but then you could argue,
- 17:52Speaker 1: you know, you have a lot of arguments, you have
- 17:54Speaker 1: a lot of little guys on your shoulders, but you
- 17:55Speaker 1: could argue he'd be making more well, Mac is making
- 17:59Speaker 1: mistakes because of the the physical limitations, right, you know, yeah,
- 18:02Speaker 1: some of those are you know, we've seen him continue
- 18:05Speaker 1: to throw the ball across his body and get in
- 18:07Speaker 1: trouble that way. You know, So assuming that Zach Wilson
- 18:11Speaker 1: listens and it's coachable, you would which is a big
- 18:15Speaker 1: which is a big assumption, by the way, because she's
- 18:17Speaker 1: shown no, I'm not sure about that, but I'm not either,
- 18:20Speaker 1: but um, you know, you'd be intrigued to see, Oh,
- 18:23Speaker 1: you know, what could Bill do with a guy like that?
- 18:26Speaker 1: You know, I just the premise for me of like
- 18:28Speaker 1: how much difference. And I love coaching. I love it.
- 18:30Speaker 1: I love football coaching, but I still think the players
- 18:34Speaker 1: are the ones who do it. And even if you
- 18:35Speaker 1: have the greatest coach in the world, to throw Bill
- 18:38Speaker 1: Belichick out of it, just take any sport. It's the
- 18:39Speaker 1: greatest coach, they can only do so much, you know,
- 18:42Speaker 1: And like that's why it's such a weird comparison, because
- 18:45Speaker 1: you're trying to divide up the pie fifty fifty. You know,
- 18:48Speaker 1: who's more, Tom, Like, it's inevitably the starting point for
- 18:51Speaker 1: me is it's more Tom because he's on the field executing.
- 18:53Speaker 1: That doesn't take anything away from Bill being an amazing
- 18:56Speaker 1: coach with tons of experience. It's just I don't think
- 18:59Speaker 1: the general premise of coaching being ever more than a player.
- 19:02Speaker 1: As possible, you can be a great coach, but it
- 19:04Speaker 1: doesn't it doesn't translate like that, like it's not terrible players.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And you don't see too many examples of these, Like
- 19:12Speaker 1: you know, whatever you say is the list of the
- 19:14Speaker 1: great coaches, whoever you want to include on that, If
- 19:16Speaker 1: you want to include you know, Shula and Landry who
- 19:22Speaker 1: you know, Lombardi, whoever else, you'd be hard pressed to
- 19:25Speaker 1: find Bill Walsh any of these guys that don't have
- 19:28Speaker 1: that great quarterback right next to them. You know, it's
- 19:31Speaker 1: whether it's Marino or Montana, you know, Bart Star, you
- 19:35Speaker 1: know Paul Brown with you know, a hundred years ago
- 19:38Speaker 1: with Otto Graham. You know, like it's it's rare that
- 19:41Speaker 1: you just find this, Wow, what a great coach, and
- 19:44Speaker 1: it didn't matter, didn't matter, you know, like the whole
- 19:48Speaker 1: Like even Joe Gibbs, like a lot of people say,
- 19:50Speaker 1: like he's so impressive because he did it with three
- 19:53Speaker 1: different quarterback. I mean they had great, great talent, you know, yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 1: And I mean, and who wants to go through and
- 20:00Speaker 1: and rank those guys out, like I don't really care,
- 20:02Speaker 1: Like I don't like they're all great coaches. I think
- 20:05Speaker 1: the thing that's that sets them up, what do we do? No, No,
- 20:09Speaker 1: that's what we do. But the thing that sets them
- 20:13Speaker 1: up are the great all time teams. And so those coaches,
- 20:15Speaker 1: these are all time teams. And you know, I don't
- 20:17Speaker 1: want to minimize any of the value of things you
- 20:20Speaker 1: pointed out Fred with with Bill and the sense of
- 20:23Speaker 1: history of the game and all the experience that he
- 20:25Speaker 1: has and everything that he knows. And and I think
- 20:28Speaker 1: your point about him being relentless as a hard worker
- 20:31Speaker 1: as setting the tone as here early stays late, all
- 20:34Speaker 1: that kind of cliche stuff that it's become like, I
- 20:37Speaker 1: think that stuff is all very true. I think he
- 20:39Speaker 1: sets a tone here for hard work. Um. But but
- 20:41Speaker 1: I think a coach can only do so much. I'll
- 20:43Speaker 1: give an example. You know, it's we know for I
- 20:46Speaker 1: know for a fact that Bill has like stood up
- 20:48Speaker 1: in front of the team when they're playing a certain
- 20:50Speaker 1: other opponent and say, you know, okay, the offensive coordinators,
- 20:53Speaker 1: this guy he learned his offense from it. He gives
- 20:55Speaker 1: them like a history lesson. So there was a day where, um,
- 21:00Speaker 1: I think Brady was about to or had just broke
- 21:03Speaker 1: a record that Babe Parilli had. You know, Babe Parilli
- 21:06Speaker 1: was an old time So we flew in Baye Perilli
- 21:10Speaker 1: was living in Colorado to meet Brady, you know, because
- 21:13Speaker 1: Brady just broke his record. So I was to meet
- 21:16Speaker 1: Brady off the practice field and walk him into the
- 21:19Speaker 1: visiting locker room where they had it set up where
- 21:21Speaker 1: he's going to meet Babe Parley. Some walk up with Brady,
- 21:23Speaker 1: He's like, okay, so what kind of offense did he run?
- 21:27Speaker 1: And I look, I don't know, but those he wonderful
- 21:30Speaker 1: after you kissed. He wanted to know all that information
- 21:33Speaker 1: about Babe Parilli before he met him. I know he
- 21:35Speaker 1: got that from from Bill, the type of you know, yeah,
- 21:39Speaker 1: be prepared, Yeah, I don't know who you're meeting with.
- 21:41Speaker 1: The conversation starter absolutely, But I mean, I mean, I
- 21:45Speaker 1: think the most recent example was when they went to
- 21:47Speaker 1: Green Bay and and you know, you got the history lesson,
- 21:50Speaker 1: you know, just you know, and those things. Sometimes I
- 21:52Speaker 1: feel like it's is there really a lot of value
- 21:55Speaker 1: to that, like you know, like, did we really just
- 21:57Speaker 1: spend a half hour talker? I mean, I appreciate that,
- 21:59Speaker 1: and that you know it he's passing that along to
- 22:01Speaker 1: another generation, especially of kids that you know, at this
- 22:04Speaker 1: point half my age and you know, our it might
- 22:07Speaker 1: not have a sense of those kind of things. So,
- 22:09Speaker 1: M I don't know, it's just it's interesting. I think
- 22:11Speaker 1: he's an excellent coach. But but you know, trying to
- 22:13Speaker 1: parse it out of like anyone saying that it's more
- 22:15Speaker 1: him than Brady, Like that's it's hard to make that
- 22:18Speaker 1: in any situation with a coach and a quarterback, Like
- 22:20Speaker 1: I don't think I could argue a high school team
- 22:22Speaker 1: would be you know, it's all the coach, Like it's
- 22:24Speaker 1: you know, you got to have guys to execute the
- 22:26Speaker 1: end of the day. But but I can still really
- 22:28Speaker 1: admire him as a coach and think he's great. And
- 22:31Speaker 1: but I'm not sitting here trying to tell you that.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I mean we've seen the results, you know, right all right,
- 22:37Speaker 1: and the fact that he could keep it together. I've
- 22:40Speaker 1: often said this, you know, we see the teams that
- 22:43Speaker 1: win and then they can't consistently win, they can't keep
- 22:46Speaker 1: it going, you know, Um, it's rare. Like the Steelers
- 22:49Speaker 1: are a good example of a team that has been
- 22:52Speaker 1: able to do that. You know, they they don't win
- 22:54Speaker 1: it every year like the Patriots were doing every other year,
- 22:56Speaker 1: but they're always in it. You know, they're always competitive,
- 22:59Speaker 1: they're always strong, um, you know, And that to me,
- 23:03Speaker 1: that's you know, Bill's organization. The way he kept this
- 23:06Speaker 1: team together during the dynasty for twenty years. You know
- 23:09Speaker 1: what it's like, Well, they had that one gap where
- 23:11Speaker 1: they hadn't won in ten years, but they got to
- 23:12Speaker 1: the super Bowl twice. That was still winning. That was
- 23:15Speaker 1: twenty years of winning and being right right every year
- 23:19Speaker 1: they were a factor, you know, And that's that's that's
- 23:22Speaker 1: the hardest thing in this league. It's because guys getting
- 23:25Speaker 1: entitled and you know, it's hard to keep it together.
- 23:28Speaker 1: And he was able to do that. Yeah, I think it.
- 23:30Speaker 1: And that goes to another part of his coaching philosophy
- 23:32Speaker 1: that I just I really admire, just you know, more
- 23:34Speaker 1: than a coaching philosophy, just as like the short term
- 23:36Speaker 1: focus and you know, I think that that kind of
- 23:39Speaker 1: mantra that he's kind of consistently had of you know,
- 23:42Speaker 1: just like today where how do you feel about three
- 23:44Speaker 1: games in twelve that were on the jets. I mean,
- 23:46Speaker 1: you know, I know it's become kind of a cliche
- 23:48Speaker 1: that we're just you know, focusing on the next opponent.
- 23:50Speaker 1: But I think he really lives that. I think he
- 23:51Speaker 1: lives the moment, he lives the day. Um, And I
- 23:54Speaker 1: think that short short term focus has been you know,
- 23:56Speaker 1: key part of teams not getting complacent, not relying on
- 24:00Speaker 1: past successes, those kind of things where, um, you know,
- 24:02Speaker 1: he was able to continually put together competitive teams. And
- 24:06Speaker 1: I think just what's kind of distressing of recent years
- 24:09Speaker 1: is just some of the bad football that's popped up,
- 24:11Speaker 1: the turnovers this year, Like those are the things that like, okay,
- 24:15Speaker 1: that that's not acceptable to me as far as like
- 24:17Speaker 1: from a coaching standpoint, when your team is continually loose
- 24:21Speaker 1: with the football and you're down near the bottom, like
- 24:22Speaker 1: to me that that's a bad sign. So they got
- 24:25Speaker 1: to turn that stuff around immediately and huge key going forward. Yep,
- 24:30Speaker 1: all right. I eight five five past five hundred is
- 24:32Speaker 1: the a sticket hutline eight five five pats five hundred
- 24:35Speaker 1: Web radio at pages dot com is the email address.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Got emails coming in, We're gonna have guests coming in,
- 24:43Speaker 1: you know who knows who Ever? Wednesday is what do
- 24:47Speaker 1: we call? What we should have a name for Wednesday shows?
- 24:49Speaker 1: What's gonna happen Wednesdays? Something like, you know, the the
- 24:53Speaker 1: who Who's gonna pop in? Show? Or the pop in
- 24:56Speaker 1: Show or so I don't know show, I don't know,
- 24:57Speaker 1: we don't know. Nobody's even popped in your popping show.
- 25:00Speaker 1: M m H. Todd's in North Carolina on the A
- 25:04Speaker 1: sticket huntline. What's up? Todd? Walk in Wednesdays? Walk in Wednesdays?
- 25:09Speaker 1: Bad's not bad, not bad bad. So my question is,
- 25:14Speaker 1: if our defense can get two turnovers and the offense
- 25:18Speaker 1: scores between twenty four and twenty eight points, can we
- 25:20Speaker 1: beat the Jet? Yes? Probably? So what we need going
- 25:24Speaker 1: on is what two turnovers a game roughly from our
- 25:27Speaker 1: defense to be able to get a positive thing. Is
- 25:30Speaker 1: that what we're looking at, and one or none from
- 25:32Speaker 1: our offense that would be that would be the cant
- 25:35Speaker 1: plus two in the turnover plus two in the turnover.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Is it possible? Of course it is? Every game? Probably not. Yeah,
- 25:43Speaker 1: that's you don't want to go into every game saying
- 25:45Speaker 1: we've got to be plus two today to win, right,
- 25:48Speaker 1: that's not that's not a good formula. Yeah, you go
- 25:50Speaker 1: into a game assuming there aren't going to be any turnovers.
- 25:52Speaker 1: That's how your game plan for and if you they happen,
- 25:55Speaker 1: they happen. You know, that was the famous with Micaelholod Right. Oh, yeah,
- 25:59Speaker 1: you always assume that team plays well, right, Yeah. They
- 26:02Speaker 1: usually have five or six games a year that they
- 26:05Speaker 1: have no turnovers, and they have yet to have one
- 26:07Speaker 1: this year. So, um, last year they only had four.
- 26:11Speaker 1: But going back a few years, I mean it's just
- 26:13Speaker 1: you know, they've had turnovers in every single game. So
- 26:15Speaker 1: and that doesn't even count the ones that don't turn
- 26:18Speaker 1: out to be turnovers, you know, the drop one turnovers
- 26:22Speaker 1: the game for the rest of the year. What is there,
- 26:24Speaker 1: What is their record for the rest of the season.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I mean, they might win. I'm with Fred, like, how
- 26:30Speaker 1: many times do the Patriots turn it over? Yeah? I
- 26:33Speaker 1: get so, you know, get just one. But Mike just
- 26:36Speaker 1: told you that they've turned it over in every game.
- 26:38Speaker 1: So if you're getting too when you're giving two, probably
- 26:42Speaker 1: probably four and four, you know, Yeah, that's what I
- 26:45Speaker 1: was thinking. Okay, all right, but if you're forcing two
- 26:48Speaker 1: and you're plus two every game, you have a good
- 26:50Speaker 1: chance to be like seven and one, right, But that's
- 26:52Speaker 1: not the way you want to live, you know, hoping
- 26:54Speaker 1: for turnovers and thinking that that's how you win. That's
- 26:57Speaker 1: not how you win. You know, you win by just
- 27:01Speaker 1: being better than the other team on that day. Plus,
- 27:03Speaker 1: I think there's like style points to the turnovers they've
- 27:06Speaker 1: had this year that they're they're bad. They're not like
- 27:10Speaker 1: punched out from behind, you know, bad decisions ball security,
- 27:14Speaker 1: just questionable decisions, which, as you said, some of those
- 27:17Speaker 1: didn't even cost you because they dropped those interceptions. But
- 27:21Speaker 1: you know you can you can live with them when
- 27:22Speaker 1: they're deflections or you know, you didn't see the guy
- 27:26Speaker 1: coming he got sacked and fumbled it. But you know,
- 27:29Speaker 1: I just think there'd been too many here where there's
- 27:31Speaker 1: been bad situations, especially like the Agalore one, when you
- 27:33Speaker 1: think if you have a chance to come back, the
- 27:35Speaker 1: team's got some momentum all of a sudden in your
- 27:37Speaker 1: mart you know, you give it right back to them.
- 27:39Speaker 1: It's just those kind of things just they kill you,
- 27:41Speaker 1: right Michael from bar Vermont, Right soon? How early does
- 27:47Speaker 1: Bill have the boys on the field for practice? And
- 27:50Speaker 1: does Bill also have the boys practice in the snow
- 27:53Speaker 1: and rain? Of course, Yeah, yeah, there's there was once
- 27:57Speaker 1: or twice. I remember big snowstorm that they didn't they
- 27:59Speaker 1: didn't practice outside. That was like, well, it was just yeah,
- 28:03Speaker 1: I mean it. Yeah, yeah, they I've seen them do
- 28:06Speaker 1: that both ways. And I think a lot of times
- 28:09Speaker 1: it's depended on where that game is going to be
- 28:12Speaker 1: that particular week. You know, if they're playing in Foxborough
- 28:16Speaker 1: and it's snowing out, they're probably gonna practice outside. If
- 28:20Speaker 1: they're playing in Minnesota and it's snowing out, you know,
- 28:23Speaker 1: there's a chance they might go inside. They're not necessarily
- 28:27Speaker 1: preparing for that. Yeah. Um. In terms of time, they
- 28:32Speaker 1: generally practice around noon, you know. Yeah, I think they're
- 28:36Speaker 1: what do we have, right, I think they were twelve
- 28:38Speaker 1: forty today? What it was players go out on They
- 28:41Speaker 1: all kind of trickle out on their own, right. Yeah.
- 28:44Speaker 1: In terms of how how much before practice they're on
- 28:47Speaker 1: the field, and I think there's a there's a horn
- 28:50Speaker 1: that goes off and they have to be ready to
- 28:52Speaker 1: go when that horn goes off. So I think it's
- 28:54Speaker 1: up to the individual player. Yeah. Every now and then
- 28:56Speaker 1: you'll see somebody, you know, chogging out, not late, but
- 28:59Speaker 1: like towards the end. Trying to know. It's funny. Over time,
- 29:01Speaker 1: they've done it different ways, like they've kind of settled
- 29:04Speaker 1: into like new niche now. But I remember there was
- 29:07Speaker 1: a time where they practiced toward the end of the
- 29:09Speaker 1: day and then open locker room. You know, they'd be
- 29:12Speaker 1: coming in with their pads and they'd just practice. And
- 29:15Speaker 1: then I remember they used to do it in the morning.
- 29:18Speaker 1: You know, they have done at different times, different time
- 29:21Speaker 1: of the day. I mean, this seems to make sense
- 29:22Speaker 1: to me, lining it up with kind of your start time.
- 29:24Speaker 1: I mean, I know sometimes teams adjust their practice times
- 29:27Speaker 1: when they're off schedule a little bit, or playing night
- 29:29Speaker 1: games and things of that. I mean, we've had so
- 29:31Speaker 1: many one o'clock games, so maybe you know, but you know,
- 29:34Speaker 1: we've got a brutal stretch coming in after this. I mean,
- 29:38Speaker 1: in my four years, I think it's always when you're
- 29:40Speaker 1: on a regular week, it's always been kind of in
- 29:42Speaker 1: the middle. I don't ever, I mean, unless it was
- 29:43Speaker 1: just a weird yeah, I know they've they've settled into
- 29:45Speaker 1: the middle of the day since you've been here. But friends,
- 29:48Speaker 1: going back twenty five years, like they've done Paul Brown.
- 29:50Speaker 1: They've done it all kinds of different ways. That fourth
- 29:54Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of ground swell for moving
- 29:58Speaker 1: that fourth primetime game. That's the only one that can
- 30:00Speaker 1: call the Vegas one. Vegas one is the only one
- 30:02Speaker 1: that can get moved. Yeah. Um, I know that. They
- 30:05Speaker 1: were talking about a little bit with Mike Greece on
- 30:08Speaker 1: the Sports Hub yesterday, sort of throwing a couple of
- 30:10Speaker 1: games out there is potential games that could get Please
- 30:14Speaker 1: God move right, all right, who am I game? You're ready? Yeah? Uh?
- 30:20Speaker 1: Neil from Warwick sends it in. Uh. He doesn't have
- 30:25Speaker 1: a criteria as to like if they're all Patriots or
- 30:27Speaker 1: but let me look at the answers. Um, yes they're
- 30:30Speaker 1: all Patriots, all right ready right. My first name is
- 30:33Speaker 1: one of Paul's favorite groups, Earthwin Mold. Yeah that was
- 30:40Speaker 1: That was wow. I just made up for the next one.
- 30:46Speaker 1: My first and last name have the same letter. Okay,
- 30:50Speaker 1: less Welker, Nope, you're out. But I like the bold,
- 30:54Speaker 1: just like the bold nature of the guest. I also
- 30:58Speaker 1: played two positions. I have a Super Bowl ring, but
- 31:06Speaker 1: not with the Patriots. Wow. And finally I went to
- 31:12Speaker 1: the Ohio State. I'll add it is one of uh
- 31:19Speaker 1: Bill's favorites. I think at one point like he liked
- 31:22Speaker 1: this guy. Mhm, Tom Tupah. How Bill's gonna tell him
- 31:30Speaker 1: what hint was wrong? Um? I would never I would
- 31:38Speaker 1: never have gotten that. But I who did he win
- 31:41Speaker 1: a Super Bowl with Tom Tupa? He's a round forever.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I don't know to check. I mean that I wouldn't
- 31:47Speaker 1: have That's not why I didn't get it. I never
- 31:49Speaker 1: would have gotten the Jets. Yeah, we know he didn't
- 31:52Speaker 1: get it with the Jets Cleveland. Yeah, uh do so
- 31:57Speaker 1: look that up. Next one is I would a first
- 32:00Speaker 1: round draft pick from Tamara's school. First round West Virginia, right, No,
- 32:05Speaker 1: Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech. Is that Eugene Chung? That's correct?
- 32:11Speaker 1: Ding Ding Ding? You go two more. I feel like
- 32:14Speaker 1: I'm redeeming myself. Tampa he went with he was with Tampa.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Did not know that? Like Tupa, I have the same
- 32:22Speaker 1: letter as my first and last name. Okay. I went
- 32:26Speaker 1: to the same school as Khalil Mack, who I don't
- 32:30Speaker 1: know anyone else that went to Buffalo. I played on
- 32:34Speaker 1: the old line and that's it. Yeah, I wouldn't. Yeh,
- 32:41Speaker 1: ed Ellis, I don't know, you know what I do?
- 32:43Speaker 1: Remember that ed Ellis went to Buffalo? Yeah, final one? Yeah, good,
- 32:48Speaker 1: that's a good one. My first name is an Organ Liver.
- 32:56Speaker 1: I was the last first round pick made by Raymond
- 32:59Speaker 1: bar I was the last Hartley did football card. Heartless.
- 33:11Speaker 1: He's one that could have been good. One of my
- 33:13Speaker 1: all time great interviews with Steve Grogan. Ye and remember
- 33:16Speaker 1: the old Digital Gold Club Freddie Yes with cyber sidelines. Yeah.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Um so I sit with Steve Grogan and we're asking
- 33:25Speaker 1: all kinds of questions you know about his career and
- 33:29Speaker 1: any you know, some of your most fond teammates, any
- 33:33Speaker 1: any guys that you'd played with that you didn't particularly like. No,
- 33:36Speaker 1: I really can't. That's a lie. Hartley Dikes like he
- 33:39Speaker 1: stopped in the middle of a sentence, Right in the
- 33:42Speaker 1: middle of a sentence. He's like, no, No, Hartley Dikes
- 33:44Speaker 1: would be one. Didn't he like break his knee cap
- 33:46Speaker 1: or something? He did? He had a very serious I think, yeah,
- 33:50Speaker 1: fractured patella something like that. Yeah, very serious knee and
- 33:53Speaker 1: he's heartlessly he broke his knee. Oh no, but I
- 33:56Speaker 1: think he had some issues before that. Um, yeah, he
- 34:00Speaker 1: was not well liked evidently, according to Grogs, Calvin and
- 34:04Speaker 1: Denver says, Deuce, I'm one hundred percent with you on
- 34:07Speaker 1: the not liking Stefan Diggs. He's a great talent, but
- 34:10Speaker 1: acts like one big a hole. Last season at home
- 34:13Speaker 1: against the Bills, he went around to the fans screaming
- 34:16Speaker 1: smd Yeah, what does that mean? What do you think
- 34:20Speaker 1: to save my drink? Oh? I know, and I think
- 34:24Speaker 1: that I think that is uncalled for. Also agree with you, Deuce,
- 34:29Speaker 1: with the mac tantrum super annoying and uncalled for. If
- 34:33Speaker 1: after this season the Patriots were to get rid of
- 34:35Speaker 1: any wide receiver, who do you think it would be?
- 34:37Speaker 1: I personally think it would be Born, Although I don't
- 34:39Speaker 1: want him to go. The Patriots should then look into
- 34:41Speaker 1: getting a guy like Curtis Samuel. He could be a
- 34:44Speaker 1: good wide receiver. Binkie for whoever the quarterback next year
- 34:47Speaker 1: will be, and I think he would love playing closer
- 34:50Speaker 1: to home, being from Brooklyn, New York. Okay, the Jets maybe,
- 34:54Speaker 1: but I really wonder what they're gonna do. I wonder
- 35:01Speaker 1: about Jacobe Myers. I wonder if they don't retain Jacobe Myers.
- 35:05Speaker 1: What the reaction with Mac is gonna be? Uh, you know,
- 35:08Speaker 1: Nelson Agil are probably as good as gone. So are
- 35:12Speaker 1: you gonna You're gonna get rid of Born too? And
- 35:14Speaker 1: then you just have h you know, Parker and Thornton
- 35:17Speaker 1: as your two receivers. I don't know. I think they
- 35:20Speaker 1: got a lot of decisions to make a receiver. They
- 35:22Speaker 1: need to get better. I'd love to see Thornton. I'd
- 35:24Speaker 1: love to see Myers come back, but I still think
- 35:26Speaker 1: they need to add, you know, another rookie. But I
- 35:28Speaker 1: don't know how I'd be surprised if they just got
- 35:31Speaker 1: rid of Born. I think he's still kind of manageable,
- 35:33Speaker 1: and you just you don't have the numbers. I mean
- 35:36Speaker 1: he's been okay. Like I just I can't blow the
- 35:38Speaker 1: whole position up because nobody's really had a chance this year. Yeah,
- 35:41Speaker 1: Anthony from Delaware catching up on pass shows and gotta
- 35:44Speaker 1: say Andy's cameos have been have me pitching a tent
- 35:47Speaker 1: a little smaller than Paul's little pole. Get ready. I
- 35:51Speaker 1: wish Andy was back on the show and Evan and
- 35:54Speaker 1: Andy argument would clear three f bombs a show. Yeah,
- 36:00Speaker 1: carried over from social media questions since the Big Man
- 36:04Speaker 1: was at Germany last weekend. Something that Sauce Gardner said
- 36:07Speaker 1: about the Packers last week was interesting to me. He said,
- 36:10Speaker 1: the Packers, as the home team an international game, could
- 36:13Speaker 1: have had a bye week or chose their opponent. They
- 36:15Speaker 1: chose the Jets. Has this been common practice during international games?
- 36:20Speaker 1: Does that mean after the Mexico game we picked Miami
- 36:23Speaker 1: or is this new? I don't know. I don't Yeah,
- 36:29Speaker 1: I don't have any information in that. I don't really
- 36:31Speaker 1: know if Paul still has this little pole going put
- 36:34Speaker 1: me down for mac even though I am not a
- 36:36Speaker 1: fan of his, of his predraft. Okay, all right, your
- 36:42Speaker 1: little poles. You my little pole's been retired. We'll revisit
- 36:47Speaker 1: it in training camp. Then he Anthony email back said
- 36:51Speaker 1: never mind the last part of the email. I see
- 36:53Speaker 1: that the Raiders were the home team and faced the
- 36:56Speaker 1: Broncos the next game. So I was just having some fun,
- 37:00Speaker 1: because you know, I like these things like intrigue me.
- 37:03Speaker 1: The Curtis Samuel Will thing close at home. Yeah, it's
- 37:05Speaker 1: two hundred and twenty nine miles from Washington to Brooklyn.
- 37:08Speaker 1: It's two hundred and fifteen from from Boston to you
- 37:11Speaker 1: those So he's right a little close up. I like that.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I like the name though, I mean, I like the
- 37:20Speaker 1: I like I like Curtis Samuel. I like him as
- 37:22Speaker 1: a player. I think he's I think he's a Belichick
- 37:25Speaker 1: kind of guy. Like the versatility of being used out
- 37:28Speaker 1: of the backfield and as a strict wide receiver, you know.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I like those kinds of players have always sort of
- 37:33Speaker 1: intrigued Belichick. Um jacket and Abah. Matt Jones cannot be
- 37:38Speaker 1: fairly evaluated until the Patriots provide him with a competent
- 37:42Speaker 1: offensive line, which they have not done yet this season.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Given the likely departure of Isaiah Wyn in free agency,
- 37:48Speaker 1: and given that Yadney could Uice has not yet demonstrated
- 37:51Speaker 1: that he is a starting level of NFL tackle, the
- 37:53Speaker 1: Patriots will likely enter the draft next needing a right tackle.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Can the Patriots afford not to draft to tackle in
- 38:00Speaker 1: the first round of the next draft, given that they
- 38:02Speaker 1: are going to need a plug and play tackle who
- 38:04Speaker 1: will become the starter on Day one? I think that's uh,
- 38:08Speaker 1: that's a great question. It is a great question. But
- 38:11Speaker 1: so i'd like to you're just dropping off another year
- 38:13Speaker 1: because they won't have a great offensive line next year
- 38:15Speaker 1: then either because you're gonna lose more players. Like, at
- 38:19Speaker 1: some point, you gotta just do it. Yeah, yeah, they
- 38:23Speaker 1: gotta do it. They got they gotta draft to tackle.
- 38:26Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's what we're talking about now,
- 38:28Speaker 1: receiver or tackle and what you know, it's a chicken
- 38:31Speaker 1: or the egg. What can fix the paper? It's like
- 38:33Speaker 1: a lot of you know, there are a lot of reasons.
- 38:37Speaker 1: There are a lot of external factors that I think
- 38:39Speaker 1: are mitigating factors with Mac Jones's second year dip here um,
- 38:45Speaker 1: and they're in they're valid, But at some point you
- 38:48Speaker 1: just have to play. Like Joe Burrow had among the
- 38:52Speaker 1: worst protection protecting offensive lines that you'll ever see in football,
- 38:56Speaker 1: and he found a way to get his team to
- 38:58Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. Is you know, like a lot of
- 39:02Speaker 1: people tell you what's the difference between Joe Burrow and
- 39:04Speaker 1: Mac Jones, Right, I mean, I personally see a lot
- 39:07Speaker 1: of differences, But some other people, you know, snap back
- 39:11Speaker 1: at are cut from a similar clause, right, So and
- 39:14Speaker 1: I and I understand, Okay, they went out and got
- 39:16Speaker 1: Jamar Chase. They got so you're gonna get a tackle
- 39:20Speaker 1: in the first round. So then you're gonna have the
- 39:22Speaker 1: excuse that while you lost Jakobe Myers and you lost
- 39:24Speaker 1: Nelson Agalore and you know, maybe they let go of
- 39:28Speaker 1: Kendrick Borne and DeVante Parker. Now what do you got?
- 39:30Speaker 1: Just Tae Kwon Thornton and that's it. And you know,
- 39:32Speaker 1: like you see, like this pattern is establishing. And I
- 39:36Speaker 1: talked about this all during the off season. No matter
- 39:39Speaker 1: what happens, it will not be blamed on him. It's
- 39:41Speaker 1: gonna be blamed on the structure and the coaching. And
- 39:44Speaker 1: I think that's a factor. I don't think it made
- 39:47Speaker 1: any sense to do it the way that they decided
- 39:48Speaker 1: to do it. But at some point he's got to
- 39:50Speaker 1: play better too. Some of this has got to be
- 39:53Speaker 1: on him. Yeah, I think, uh, because nothing you've we've
- 39:58Speaker 1: seen so far where you can say Max's playing well,
- 40:02Speaker 1: it's just everybody else isn't around him. You can't say that,
- 40:06Speaker 1: you know where you know, take a guy like Dan Marino,
- 40:10Speaker 1: like even you know, like you knew he was good
- 40:13Speaker 1: by just looking at him, you know, and he never
- 40:16Speaker 1: won a super Bowl, but you know he was great,
- 40:20Speaker 1: Yeah he was. But like like Mac hasn't shown that. Wow,
- 40:24Speaker 1: that you know, it's obvious he's really good, you know,
- 40:27Speaker 1: even if and I like Mac, I'm happy he's our quarterback,
- 40:30Speaker 1: but like, I don't see that talent that can overcome
- 40:35Speaker 1: you know things. I think that's what you're realizing this
- 40:37Speaker 1: year is that, I mean I always knew. Look, he's
- 40:39Speaker 1: not gonna be a world beater as far as arm
- 40:41Speaker 1: strength or size or you know, ability to run. We
- 40:44Speaker 1: knew he was limited coming in. I think last year
- 40:46Speaker 1: gave you the at least the belief that, yes, he's limited,
- 40:50Speaker 1: but he can make it work. Like he's smart enough,
- 40:52Speaker 1: he's accurate enough, he can process quick enough that he
- 40:56Speaker 1: can get around it. And you know, I mean I
- 40:57Speaker 1: think those things are we was talking about Brady like
- 41:00Speaker 1: no one ever sacks him because he gets the ball
- 41:01Speaker 1: out so quick, you know. And I think like the
- 41:03Speaker 1: hope was that Mac would get to a level where
- 41:05Speaker 1: some of the protection issues could maybe be mitigated because
- 41:08Speaker 1: he's you know, has good ability in the pocket. And
- 41:11Speaker 1: I think this year has shown you like how much
- 41:14Speaker 1: how perfect does it really have to be? I mean,
- 41:16Speaker 1: how narrow of a path do we have to walk
- 41:19Speaker 1: with Mac? Uh? The other thing I would just say
- 41:21Speaker 1: is like I just I get I'd get an offensive
- 41:24Speaker 1: line coach. I would maybe tap free agency with the
- 41:27Speaker 1: offensive line. And I think, to Paul's point, you gotta
- 41:30Speaker 1: get the receipt you gotta get the weapons in the draft.
- 41:32Speaker 1: You gotta get the weapons early so that they're around.
- 41:35Speaker 1: You don't know how long you're gonna have them. You
- 41:37Speaker 1: might not even have them for the full you know,
- 41:39Speaker 1: full contract as we're seeing with like A J. Brown
- 41:41Speaker 1: guys like that. I think that's that's how you do it.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Drafted one in the first round. It feels like I
- 41:45Speaker 1: don't think it's really going to fix anything. Like it
- 41:47Speaker 1: might make you feel good that, hey we got a
- 41:49Speaker 1: right tackle for the next four years, but like right tackle,
- 41:53Speaker 1: I mean, we see it now, I've done we see
- 41:57Speaker 1: it now. Where you know, teams are drafting these receivers
- 42:00Speaker 1: early and they're making big impacts right away, you know,
- 42:04Speaker 1: like right away. Yeah, yeah, sorry. I just I just thought,
- 42:07Speaker 1: does any need a theme song? Do we do? We
- 42:09Speaker 1: do we tap the girl the ladies for a you know,
- 42:12Speaker 1: a return from practically happen. It's just an on your
- 42:16Speaker 1: own time. Are you not getting any sleep? You look
- 42:18Speaker 1: really tired. I'm always tired. Why work hard, Fred, you
- 42:21Speaker 1: work hards business. I've chosen Andy Hart's there from w
- 42:26Speaker 1: E I and the Six Rings podcast. Is you were
- 42:29Speaker 1: wondering where you went? The Six Rings podcast and the
- 42:32Speaker 1: post game show? Right? Yes, the Six Rings post game show.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Tune in Sunday afternoon. Patriots Jets? Did they get fourteen
- 42:38Speaker 1: in a row? Would be tough? Fourteen in a row?
- 42:41Speaker 1: What over the Jets home? So you don't I know?
- 42:46Speaker 1: Do you not read releases like bullet points time? I
- 42:48Speaker 1: don't read the releases. I don't either, but I knew
- 42:51Speaker 1: that I happen to know that one broke the biggest
- 42:53Speaker 1: game since twenty ten playoffs against the Jets here. Oh yeah,
- 42:56Speaker 1: huge on so many levels for both teams. Playoffs also sneaky.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Huge for the quarterback narrative of last year's draft. Justin
- 43:05Speaker 1: Fields already jumped past you by whooping your ass if
- 43:07Speaker 1: Zach Wilson whoops your ast as he jumped past you too.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Bill mentioned that he expects he expects the Jets to
- 43:13Speaker 1: have some wrinkles for the Patriots, and the Patriots will
- 43:15Speaker 1: have some wrinkles for them. What wrinkles could the Patriots
- 43:18Speaker 1: have for the Jets? Andy Hart Wrinkles Well, one of
- 43:21Speaker 1: our callers to the postgame show, very specific wanted John
- 43:24Speaker 1: Ousmith in the eye formation in the backfield more often,
- 43:26Speaker 1: and I was like, what are we doing here? Well,
- 43:28Speaker 1: that's you know, worse for me and Madden's when you
- 43:32Speaker 1: don't have a fullback and that should cut right to
- 43:35Speaker 1: your corn when you're relegated to Siberia. That's the kind
- 43:37Speaker 1: of calls he gets, All Right, you don't have to
- 43:39Speaker 1: be mean, Jesus. Um, I think it's a great question. Fred,
- 43:45Speaker 1: I actually think it's a great question, because I don't
- 43:47Speaker 1: Bill was asked about it. I don't know if you
- 43:48Speaker 1: guys listened to the end of his press conference. He
- 43:50Speaker 1: was asked, Dow, I'm pointing down the hall. I thought
- 43:52Speaker 1: you were doing a d I'm doing the mic Reas
- 43:54Speaker 1: stand up or he points to the practice out here.
- 43:56Speaker 1: David Inn returned to action Um, like, can you make
- 44:01Speaker 1: dramatic changes in a week? They had like one extra practice,
- 44:04Speaker 1: like just a bunch of stuff, and Bill typical, Bill goes,
- 44:07Speaker 1: if you want to make big changes, gonna make big changes.
- 44:08Speaker 1: You want to make little changes. A little change depends
- 44:10Speaker 1: what you think you need to do. Do they think
- 44:12Speaker 1: they need big changes, is the first question in my mind, Like, okay,
- 44:15Speaker 1: so I'll go back before the buy um. They told,
- 44:18Speaker 1: you know, they had that typical time for self scouting.
- 44:21Speaker 1: What are the things you're gonna be looking at? And
- 44:23Speaker 1: he says, well, we'll be making some scheme adjustments. Yeah,
- 44:26Speaker 1: you know, but what does that mean? I don't know.
- 44:28Speaker 1: I mean, we already dropped the zone running right. What
- 44:30Speaker 1: else are we gonna drop that you instituted in August
- 44:32Speaker 1: that you need to fix in November. It feels like
- 44:34Speaker 1: a step back reset to me, more than a step forward,
- 44:37Speaker 1: a new twists installed kind of thing. Like this seems
- 44:39Speaker 1: like get right, stop turning the ball over, like, hey,
- 44:42Speaker 1: you guys block better. Hey you throw it to your
- 44:45Speaker 1: color jersey not the other. Hey you get open a
- 44:47Speaker 1: little more often a team on three. I really do
- 44:51Speaker 1: think it feels like it's so cliche, like do your job.
- 44:54Speaker 1: It felt like to me like coach speak. Yes, just
- 44:56Speaker 1: we have to play better, we have to execute better. Now,
- 45:00Speaker 1: are there issues with play calls? I'm sure there are, yeah,
- 45:02Speaker 1: but that's not the I don't think that's the be
- 45:04Speaker 1: all end to protect the football. But I think it
- 45:07Speaker 1: starts with the line, and I don't know if that's
- 45:09Speaker 1: fixable day Andrews save us. Yeah, that's a good step forward, right,
- 45:14Speaker 1: Like Bill was quick to say, like I thought James
- 45:17Speaker 1: did a good job and he was out there, but
- 45:18Speaker 1: you're better with David Andrews on the field. James farens
- 45:20Speaker 1: Is he's a four A player, Like he's a good backup,
- 45:23Speaker 1: but you don't really want him playing significant reps. And
- 45:26Speaker 1: now whether that's the excuse for your first round left
- 45:29Speaker 1: guard because a lot of people are saying that's you
- 45:31Speaker 1: know why his play dipped because the guy, well, then
- 45:33Speaker 1: how good is he? He's got to rely on the
- 45:35Speaker 1: guy next to him to tell him what to do. Like, no,
- 45:38Speaker 1: that's your first he should be better, but you need
- 45:40Speaker 1: to feed Isaiah Win. I don't know where he plays.
- 45:42Speaker 1: One thing we did learn today is Mike on Win
- 45:44Speaker 1: was a guard. Yeah. Bill likes Mike on Win It
- 45:49Speaker 1: skills his build, he's a guard. So if you thought, yeah,
- 45:53Speaker 1: if you thought, because I know some people were speculating
- 45:55Speaker 1: maybe Isaiah Win at guard and move on out like
- 45:57Speaker 1: Bill seems to like on win It at guard. So
- 46:00Speaker 1: when I assume as your right tackle and then you
- 46:02Speaker 1: get Andrews back. So that I think means Cole Strange
- 46:05Speaker 1: has to be your left guard because I don't really
- 46:07Speaker 1: want Farn's at left guard. Or there was the other guy,
- 46:10Speaker 1: Chason Hines or whatever his name, iss I all right
- 46:12Speaker 1: now said whatever, who's the call up they had recently,
- 46:15Speaker 1: like Bill Murray and the Yeah, I certainly don't want
- 46:17Speaker 1: a defensive lineman. We got major problems if the d
- 46:20Speaker 1: lineman is better than our first. So we had a
- 46:24Speaker 1: wrestler and he worked out at guard, you know, and
- 46:27Speaker 1: we drafted Tom three years later round. So let's just go.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Let's play all the hits around here. We're the Raiders.
- 46:32Speaker 1: We're the team of the ages. We live in the past. Athletes, athletes. Wow,
- 46:35Speaker 1: you're gonna let him talk like that. Yeah, no, but
- 46:38Speaker 1: it starts with the offensive line, because like we're going
- 46:40Speaker 1: back to what they started with and hoping I would hope.
- 46:42Speaker 1: So yeah, and now some of that is also the coaching.
- 46:46Speaker 1: You know, Billy Yates and Mattie Patricia, you guys got
- 46:48Speaker 1: to get Dante used to do it. You do it.
- 46:50Speaker 1: You guys were around Dante. Figure it out. Make them block.
- 46:52Speaker 1: But that'll make the passing game. That'll make the passing
- 46:56Speaker 1: game better. That'll make the like those Romandre Stevenson's two
- 46:59Speaker 1: yard law. There's like the very first play of the game,
- 47:01Speaker 1: how demoralized, completely right right right off the bat, like
- 47:05Speaker 1: that in the absolute nuts right off the bat, or
- 47:08Speaker 1: even the the punt, the block punt, first play on
- 47:11Speaker 1: the two yard line, Well we can run it from
- 47:13Speaker 1: the three now, we're fine. Like that is so demoral
- 47:16Speaker 1: It seems like a little thing, like in the course
- 47:18Speaker 1: of a game where you have seventy snaps and you're
- 47:20Speaker 1: gonna have hopefully hundreds of yards of offense to lose too,
- 47:24Speaker 1: no big deal, but it just felt like more than that,
- 47:27Speaker 1: and this team, it's a big deal. It is you
- 47:28Speaker 1: can't can't be behind the sticks? Off script, Paul, what
- 47:31Speaker 1: does that mean that football talk? We'll see they have
- 47:33Speaker 1: sticks and then you're behind you behind them. I means
- 47:37Speaker 1: you just have to make yards just to get more sticks,
- 47:39Speaker 1: let alone move them. What about my other idea? But
- 47:42Speaker 1: do you guys, you guys like the idea of Marcus
- 47:43Speaker 1: Jones on offense apparently not next topic. No, I hadn't
- 47:48Speaker 1: really given it any thought. But I don't need playmakers,
- 47:51Speaker 1: so I'm in don't you need playmakers guys. I mean,
- 47:55Speaker 1: I'd love to believe in it, but I just like
- 47:56Speaker 1: another guy that you can't get the ball too. You
- 47:58Speaker 1: can't but bubble screen. Get him into a buble screen.
- 48:00Speaker 1: He's a punt returner. So that's how the scheme change.
- 48:04Speaker 1: How about Marcus Jones on defense? Why don't week start there? Well,
- 48:07Speaker 1: but aren't we good on defense? No, but I think
- 48:10Speaker 1: he could always use depth there and he eventually he's
- 48:12Speaker 1: gonna have to play out, I know, but they're good
- 48:14Speaker 1: on defense. Their secondary is actually displayed a little bit
- 48:16Speaker 1: of depth because they've stayed healthy and they've been out there. Now. Yeah,
- 48:19Speaker 1: like I think Marcus Jones just in theory as simple
- 48:22Speaker 1: as that. Throw him a bubble screen and say, beat
- 48:24Speaker 1: a couple of guys here. If we pick up seventeen yards,
- 48:26Speaker 1: don't it'll be the opposite of the two yard loss
- 48:28Speaker 1: on the run play. They'll be about, oh, oh we
- 48:30Speaker 1: got a little boost and now maybe we got remember
- 48:32Speaker 1: the Brandon LaFell drive starter days. I'm not saying Marcus
- 48:35Speaker 1: Jones now catches eight balls a game for one hundred
- 48:38Speaker 1: and forty one play where I feel a little maybe
- 48:40Speaker 1: ignites something and maybe that gets Born feeling good and
- 48:42Speaker 1: then you and then maybe it's snowball. I do like it, Andy,
- 48:45Speaker 1: because I feel like, and I said on the show yesterday,
- 48:46Speaker 1: like I feel like they're missing that quick inside guy.
- 48:48Speaker 1: And I wonder if almost, like, do you think that
- 48:50Speaker 1: Lynn Boden thing last week was a flirtation with that
- 48:52Speaker 1: at all of that kind of player. I'm not saying
- 48:54Speaker 1: he was, but they didn't really do anything either. But
- 48:56Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. I just think they're missing
- 49:00Speaker 1: the third down back and they're missing us a lot.
- 49:01Speaker 1: If you're looking for someone to just suddenly emerge in
- 49:04Speaker 1: the second half, it has to be like I think
- 49:06Speaker 1: he has to be the leading candidate Kendrick Bourne. Yes,
- 49:09Speaker 1: you know, but why did I don't have a rational
- 49:12Speaker 1: explanation as to why he has been, you know, an
- 49:16Speaker 1: out non factor right in nine games, he's been a
- 49:19Speaker 1: non fact. Has not been Deebo, Samuel Light. But if
- 49:22Speaker 1: you tell me, But if you were going to say,
- 49:24Speaker 1: lots of people the streets are talking Fred, well, first
- 49:29Speaker 1: of all, he kind of started it by saying that
- 49:32Speaker 1: that was kind of the way they wanted they wanted
- 49:33Speaker 1: to use it, and people like you ran with it.
- 49:36Speaker 1: I don't see. I got to give Fred credit on this.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I said like him. I didn't say him people like him.
- 49:41Speaker 1: But if if you were going to say they're gonna
- 49:43Speaker 1: get and you know a significant contribution from either Kendrick Bourne,
- 49:49Speaker 1: well Lynn Bowden or Marcus Jones offensively, what do you
- 49:53Speaker 1: think is the better chance? It's it's got to be
- 49:55Speaker 1: born start with the wide receiver. I've got to have
- 49:57Speaker 1: said that coming into the year, but I wouldn't know
- 50:00Speaker 1: the unseen reason he does nothing. I don't know either.
- 50:04Speaker 1: I don't have the answer for I don't like I can't.
- 50:09Speaker 1: I can't accept the fact that they got mad at him,
- 50:11Speaker 1: so he was a non factor for nine games like that.
- 50:14Speaker 1: It is way more to it than that. I don't
- 50:16Speaker 1: know what this same theories. So what was his former team?
- 50:19Speaker 1: Fortan Francisco. I think I'm glad Evan Lazars here because
- 50:21Speaker 1: he might be able to fill in because this is
- 50:23Speaker 1: just totally me pulling something out of my bung hole.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Well that's what you do. So Kendrick Bourne's former team
- 50:28Speaker 1: was the forty nine ers who let him go, right,
- 50:33Speaker 1: you acquired him for Josh mcteam. Maybe he wasn't a
- 50:35Speaker 1: fit for that offense. You wanted to become more forty
- 50:38Speaker 1: nine ers like this year, and suddenly Kendrick Bourne doesn't fit.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Am I connecting dots that are illogical or logical? Heaven?
- 50:45Speaker 1: It's kind of a Felger fact. Everything you said is true,
- 50:48Speaker 1: but it doesn't necessarily mean that all of it's true.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Are you sure it's not true? No, I'm not sure, Victory.
- 50:54Speaker 1: It's a Felger fact though, Yeah, I don't know, Like
- 50:57Speaker 1: who's felder? He goes out on a route, like, how
- 50:59Speaker 1: does he not fit? Just throw the ball to him.
- 51:01Speaker 1: I mean, I understand, what's that he's not open? But
- 51:05Speaker 1: that's not true. I mean on a lot of your
- 51:07Speaker 1: film study, we show that he is open. Yeah, there's
- 51:09Speaker 1: some instances where he's open. That's fair, I think. But
- 51:13Speaker 1: we're Max's eyes because his eyes, he where eyes. That's
- 51:17Speaker 1: another point. That's I mean fair point. If he doesn't
- 51:19Speaker 1: see him, then the tree falls in the wood. Nobody
- 51:22Speaker 1: hears it. Yeah, one hand clap right and we're back
- 51:24Speaker 1: to eye right. I think the biggest thing a lot
- 51:27Speaker 1: of shots here, it's not inappropriate. I don't think you
- 51:30Speaker 1: need to be smiling back there and gets I don't
- 51:33Speaker 1: want you going on that show. It's not open. I
- 51:36Speaker 1: don't want you playing with those kids anymore. They're bad anfluence.
- 51:40Speaker 1: So yeah, go ahead of he's not open. Well, I
- 51:43Speaker 1: think that I should take back he's not open because
- 51:46Speaker 1: Fred is right there are plays where he has been
- 51:48Speaker 1: getting open. But I think the biggest issue this is
- 51:50Speaker 1: sort of what where my brain is at now with
- 51:53Speaker 1: ten days or so to digest this entire offense and
- 51:55Speaker 1: what the issues are. I think the biggest thing that
- 51:57Speaker 1: you look at is, Okay, last year they're running dig
- 52:01Speaker 1: routes at eight to twelve yards. Now, all of a
- 52:04Speaker 1: sudden I turn on the tape and it's a sixteen
- 52:06Speaker 1: yard and cut and I'm just thinking to myself, well,
- 52:10Speaker 1: if it ain't broke, like, why did we go away
- 52:12Speaker 1: from the stuff that was working last year from this offense?
- 52:16Speaker 1: And now all of a sudden I watched Kendrick Bourne
- 52:19Speaker 1: and he's trying to cut his route off at sixteen
- 52:23Speaker 1: yards down the field instead of eight to ten, eight
- 52:26Speaker 1: to twelve, whatever you want to call it. And I
- 52:29Speaker 1: just don't think that he's that guy. And I think
- 52:31Speaker 1: this goes across the table with all their receivers outside
- 52:34Speaker 1: of maybe Taekwon Thornton, and I guess Nelson Aglor when
- 52:37Speaker 1: he plays is they got a bunch of singles and
- 52:40Speaker 1: doubles hitters that they're trying to hit into forty you know,
- 52:43Speaker 1: turn into forty home run guys. And it's kind of
- 52:46Speaker 1: like you come into spring training and you know, you
- 52:49Speaker 1: hit three hundred last year, just trying to hit for average,
- 52:53Speaker 1: and then the coaches say to you, this year, we
- 52:55Speaker 1: want you to hit forty dingers, like we do hear
- 53:00Speaker 1: about that, like, and he says, you know what, we're
- 53:03Speaker 1: more of a launch angle team now. Yeah, And you're like,
- 53:06Speaker 1: I don't think that's really me, and but hey, you're
- 53:08Speaker 1: the coach. I'll do what you tell. And all of
- 53:09Speaker 1: a sudden, it's you know, July, and he's hitting two
- 53:12Speaker 1: hundred with one hundred strikeouts, and everybody is like, well,
- 53:16Speaker 1: i'll tell you what happened. That guy told me to
- 53:18Speaker 1: do it over there blame Yeah, yeah, and I need biceps.
- 53:22Speaker 1: I talked to some of their receivers about it on Monday,
- 53:25Speaker 1: because I went back and during the bye week, I
- 53:28Speaker 1: had some extra time, and I looked at a lot
- 53:30Speaker 1: of the cutups that I had from last year's passing
- 53:32Speaker 1: offense and just went, Okay, this is that last year,
- 53:35Speaker 1: this is this year, and tried almost like a side
- 53:37Speaker 1: by side to kind of see the bigger picture of
- 53:40Speaker 1: what the differences are. And a lot of the guys
- 53:42Speaker 1: were saying, well, last year they'd walk the extra safety
- 53:46Speaker 1: down and they play single high man to man on us,
- 53:49Speaker 1: and nobody was afraid of us. Nobody worried about the
- 53:53Speaker 1: outside passes and all these kinds of stuff. So we
- 53:56Speaker 1: wanted to be more explosive. We wanted to be more
- 53:59Speaker 1: of a on the outside. And it's it's cool to
- 54:01Speaker 1: want things, but you're just that field to want that.
- 54:07Speaker 1: That's not your like Jacobe Meyers. It it's not you
- 54:13Speaker 1: getting down the field and trying to break out on
- 54:16Speaker 1: a route that's you know, gonna hit twenty yards down
- 54:18Speaker 1: the field. Kendrick Bourne clearing out the sideline for a route.
- 54:23Speaker 1: You know, that's not why they're here. And I would
- 54:27Speaker 1: also say the tight ends same thing. You know, those
- 54:30Speaker 1: guys are guys that are gonna win at the shorten
- 54:33Speaker 1: and intermediate levels of the field as well or up
- 54:36Speaker 1: the seams. If you want to get a little bit
- 54:38Speaker 1: of a vertical element with them in the game. So
- 54:41Speaker 1: the biggest thing coming off this buy for me is
- 54:44Speaker 1: you tried this other thing for a long time, like
- 54:47Speaker 1: going all the way back to the spring really, and
- 54:50Speaker 1: as soon as the pads came on and as soon
- 54:51Speaker 1: as there was a live pass rush in mac Jones's face,
- 54:55Speaker 1: it's been a disaster. So you think there's any chance
- 54:59Speaker 1: that I said it last weekend? He here's you tell
- 55:02Speaker 1: me what you think? Okay? Any chance that Bill is
- 55:04Speaker 1: you know, saying yeah, I am collaborative and Matt and Joe,
- 55:09Speaker 1: I listen to you and it's not working. So the
- 55:12Speaker 1: scheme adjustment is we're going back to you know what
- 55:15Speaker 1: we do best. I would yeah, why wouldn't you? Like,
- 55:18Speaker 1: I don't know why you wouldn't. I don't think Bill.
- 55:19Speaker 1: I know people love to throw around like his ego
- 55:21Speaker 1: and he's stubs and he'll never admit I don't think
- 55:24Speaker 1: he is. I don't think he is either, yea, And
- 55:27Speaker 1: I mean to some degree, I think they've done it
- 55:29Speaker 1: in the Running Game like they've If it works, we'll
- 55:31Speaker 1: do it. If it doesn't work, we'll find something that
- 55:34Speaker 1: does work. Like he said it so many We're not
- 55:35Speaker 1: going to run the ball into a brick wall. We're
- 55:37Speaker 1: not going to do these things, or you know, back
- 55:39Speaker 1: in the three four four three, like the willingness to change,
- 55:41Speaker 1: even though sure he's probably a three four guy if
- 55:44Speaker 1: that's not the right thing for his person. He changed
- 55:46Speaker 1: even over the last twenty years. That right, Yeah, So yes,
- 55:49Speaker 1: I think he would now, and it doesn't seem to
- 55:52Speaker 1: me that difficult. Like I know, Phil Perry asked Bill
- 55:54Speaker 1: about dramatic changes, and like, I don't think it's that difficult.
- 55:58Speaker 1: I also think the offensive line would be like, oh yeah,
- 56:00Speaker 1: if you guys are gonna run eight to twelve yards
- 56:02Speaker 1: instead of sixteen, we'll be better too. We'll be And
- 56:04Speaker 1: then Max says, I can trust those guys. We lived
- 56:08Speaker 1: that last year and I felt comfortable with him. It's
- 56:09Speaker 1: this year that I freaked out when people weren't open
- 56:12Speaker 1: and I have to point and run and roll out
- 56:13Speaker 1: and all those things. So yeah, I don't think it's
- 56:16Speaker 1: that hard. Now. I'm guessing defenses will probably presume this too, like,
- 56:20Speaker 1: oh yeah, if they're gonna make some changes, one of
- 56:22Speaker 1: them might be getting back to what they did a
- 56:24Speaker 1: year ago, so they may be ready for that. And
- 56:26Speaker 1: then you get back to more personnel and can you
- 56:28Speaker 1: run your battles. But but we know, as Evan said,
- 56:30Speaker 1: we saw those work last year. We really haven't seen
- 56:33Speaker 1: this year's version work. So if you're going to roll
- 56:36Speaker 1: the dice in the second half to try to make
- 56:38Speaker 1: a rundoad the playoffs rather than trusting the process as
- 56:41Speaker 1: Mac used to say, or this faith based offense, how
- 56:44Speaker 1: about we go back to a video based offense where
- 56:46Speaker 1: I can put a clip on and say you did
- 56:47Speaker 1: it last year to do it again. Yeah. I think
- 56:49Speaker 1: that's that's spot on, because it would be one thing
- 56:53Speaker 1: if we had seen the Baltimore game, for instance, was
- 56:57Speaker 1: every week where there were flashes, but it just was inconsistent. Hint,
- 57:00Speaker 1: And maybe we work through these problems and we get
- 57:02Speaker 1: it to be more consistent. But I would also say
- 57:05Speaker 1: that the big reason, the big knock on this style
- 57:08Speaker 1: of offense, I always call it like the Bruce Arians
- 57:10Speaker 1: offense because that's like basically what it is. The knock
- 57:13Speaker 1: on It is always at it's volatile, like yes, you're
- 57:15Speaker 1: you're gonna have Jameis Winston. You're gonna have thirty touchdowns
- 57:17Speaker 1: and thirty interceptions, Right, that's the style of the offense.
- 57:21Speaker 1: So that's never been the Patriots. And that's what shocks
- 57:23Speaker 1: me about this whole transition is that Bill Belichick has
- 57:27Speaker 1: always been death by a thousand paper cuts, right, Like,
- 57:31Speaker 1: that's always been his adage. That's always been who they've been.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Outside of having Randy Moss in two thousand and seven,
- 57:38Speaker 1: they've never been an air it out, you know, chuck
- 57:41Speaker 1: and duck kind of offense. And now all of a sudden,
- 57:44Speaker 1: that's the right thing to do. I'm gonna push back
- 57:46Speaker 1: a little bit about it worked last year? Did it really? See?
- 57:50Speaker 1: Are we talking about games where they ran up the
- 57:53Speaker 1: score and it's skewed the numbers. But it works so
- 57:55Speaker 1: regardless of it. But it didn't work right with you,
- 58:00Speaker 1: it worked better than this, and right now you have
- 58:01Speaker 1: to find what you do best. I'm not saying you're
- 58:04Speaker 1: ready to win a shootout with the Bills or the Vikings.
- 58:07Speaker 1: I'm saying, beat the Jets this week, Like, figure out
- 58:10Speaker 1: a way to beat the Jets this week. And that's
- 58:11Speaker 1: the probably wrestling with Bill is saying, you know, like,
- 58:15Speaker 1: do I try to salvage this season? Yes? Or do
- 58:18Speaker 1: I continue down this path because we have to fight
- 58:21Speaker 1: through this and figure out how to be better offense.
- 58:22Speaker 1: We're not ready to do that. I'm not telling you
- 58:26Speaker 1: that that's wrong, okay, because that whole idea, the gap
- 58:29Speaker 1: and like being a downfield team, Like can we put
- 58:32Speaker 1: that like we agree that doesn't work, right, Like, they're
- 58:34Speaker 1: not ready to do that. Whether it's Mac they align
- 58:36Speaker 1: the receivers or everybody involved. I agree with everyway Evans analogy,
- 58:40Speaker 1: you know, like I don't think they have the pieces
- 58:42Speaker 1: to do what they wanted to do. Yeah, it's it's
- 58:44Speaker 1: post All Star breaks, So let's tell the three hundred
- 58:46Speaker 1: hitter to just slap the ball into right field and
- 58:48Speaker 1: get on base for me, right. I just think that,
- 58:50Speaker 1: you know, I posted on on Friday because this is,
- 58:54Speaker 1: you know, the degenerate that I am during the bye week.
- 58:56Speaker 1: I'm watching film. It's not like your counterpart who's watching
- 59:00Speaker 1: The Raiders evidently said yes, like what, yeah, I mean,
- 59:04Speaker 1: I'm not quick. I don't put as much time into it.
- 59:07Speaker 1: So they ran this play against Indie, which I thought
- 59:11Speaker 1: perfectly exemplified all the issues that are going on with
- 59:15Speaker 1: this offense, where it's it's an under center play action
- 59:19Speaker 1: play seven step drop and they're trying to hit Taikwon
- 59:22Speaker 1: Thornton on a deep over route like forty yards down
- 59:24Speaker 1: the field and it's there, but the pockets not perfect,
- 59:29Speaker 1: And I just don't think the quarterback right now has
- 59:33Speaker 1: the confidence in his arm to hit it off platform,
- 59:37Speaker 1: Like if he's not going to be able to step
- 59:39Speaker 1: into it and put his whole body behind a forty
- 59:41Speaker 1: yard throw, I don't think that he's got the confidence
- 59:43Speaker 1: in it. And the other thing that he doesn't have
- 59:45Speaker 1: the confidence in is that Tai Kwon is not out
- 59:49Speaker 1: of his break yet, so that he has to anticipate
- 59:52Speaker 1: that Tai Kwon and him are going to be on
- 59:54Speaker 1: the same page. So when you drop a route like that,
- 59:56Speaker 1: you have a landmark where you say, you know, hit
- 59:59Speaker 1: the the thirty literally the thirty written on the field,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: like that's where I want you to run, and I'm
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: just gonna punt it up to you and throw it
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: deep to you and you're gonna run underneath it. If
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: he had that kind of confidence that Taekwon was going
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: to come out of the break and get to that landmark,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: then he couldn't let it go a little bit sooner.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: But instead he holds the ball. He holds the ball
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: and the pocket collapses and he has to check it
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: down to Johnny for like a two yard game. So
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: on so many levels, the protection, the trust and the
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: receivers or the routes that are being run by the receivers,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the physical ability of the quarterback, like all these things
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: are just not good enough to run this kind of offense.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: And then you're you know, your first and ten, you're
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: running into a brick wall. Then you're second and ten
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: and you're throwing play action incomplete. Now we're a third
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: and nine, right, and it's like, yep, now what like
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: that's that's been their offense for two weeks? Now, Yep.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: It's a tough way to live. Tough way to live.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: How will you live? John? Day by day? All right? Um, Paula,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: do you water food? I think Matt just went to
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: get it. Oh good, Oh that's that's uh No, sucks
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: back there, Um and you're gonna stop stay around for
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: a little bit, should I get nothing to do? Uh?
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Spiar Fresno says that was good on that When I
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: let that one go? Fred with the ernest what does
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: SMD mean? Instant classic? Jake Steele, You're a national treasure.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Never shame absolutely. At least he didn't come after me this.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: I didn't know what it meant. What does SMD mean?
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Thank you? Think about it for a second. If someone's
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: yelling asked my yeah, yea yeah, okay, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Somebody says Stefon Diggs was yelling it at the crowd.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Last who would say s MD. I don't really feel
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: like that's right. Well, I think they instead of being
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: able to say so that it passed like SMD, like no,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: no, no no, no, no no, Dig wasn't saying SMD. He
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: was saying the actual words. Okay, that my guess. I mean,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I'm not down in the field to hear this. But
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: evidently wait, evidently you know the church goers a football crowd,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: or offended by such. Probably a big too. Yeah, let's
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: get that energy, says Big Digg's energy. Yeah, Big Digs energy.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: H CJ in the Bay Area. I do think that
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Brady can be pointed to for all of the offensive
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: comebacks and rallying the team from an emotional perspective, but
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: at least two Super Bowls are directly due to Belichick
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: prepping Malcolm Butler for that amazing interception against Seattle and
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: using the rules against John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: both had nothing to do with Brady. I think they
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: both are responsible for their fair share of wins, and
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: we were lucky to have them together for twenty years.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: That part, I agree. Are we doing Brady Belichick again?
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: I think so we're talking are we bringing Brady back
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: and getting rid of Belichick? If we take it to
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: the next level. It's one of my least favorite topics.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: I'm not ready. How about what do we disagree completely with?
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Lashawn McCoy, Well, that's what we talk about it. I mean,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: I said, I think he gets a lot of headlines
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: because people take it as him saying that, you know,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Belichick's terrible. I think he's just saying that's that's what
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: he's saying that he and I don't completely disagree with. Ye.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: I have often said Bill wouldn't be great without Tom.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Tom wouldn't be great without Bill. We made like those
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: things all would have played out differently, and we've seen
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: it with so many coaches. Right, yeah, you're good Walsh. Yeah,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I mean he was a great coach. Right. No, I
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: don't like anybody would argue, wasn't it one of the
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: greatest coaches ever yet Joe Montana right, like that just
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: the way it usually the way it works. And like
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: the second tier guys we see, like some of the
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: guys that if you have whatever, Russell Wilson or Ben Roethlisberger,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: that's a certain thing, but those guys clearly weren't Brady
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: on so many levels on field success, off field drive, attitude,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: so many things. Like there's a lot of good coaches.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: I think there's no sport where a coach means more
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: than football, correct, But in all sports, the players mean
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: more than the coach. I think. I think that's fair.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: I just don't know you can come up with any
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: coach if you want to cross sports, if you want
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: to talk football that succeeded without great players, like buddy
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Phil Jackson, Like look at his his resume with you
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: take Michael Jordan and Kobe and Shack Like a lot
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: of people like I hate Phil Jackson. I I am.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I fully wear my my green footy pajamas. But people
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: like always make fun of Phil Jackson like Red Red's better,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Like oh really, like he didn't have that, Like there's
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: nine thousand Hall of famers that that Red coached, and
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: you think he would have been the same, just with anybody,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: like if he didn't have Bill Russell right, it's it's
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: you're right, Fred. I think it is about the players
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: that you know, Jimmy's and Joe's And I've always thought, like,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: you know how they tell you you can't win a
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: game in the first quarter, but you can lose one,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Like I kind of look at the coach the same way,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Like the coach can't just win the game, but some
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: coaches feel like they can lose them like bad enough,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: like see McDermot. I bounced back and forth. I was
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: thinking more like Dan Campbell, Yeah, it's gonna go. That's
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: gonna go for every fourth thousand, or the guy in
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Sandy Uh yeah, La. I think he's Stanley. I think
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: he might be the worst coach in the NFL because
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: the other thing that nobody wants to talk about is
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: he was supposedly on the forefront of we don't play players,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: we take care of their bodies. We do this and
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: nobody gets more hurt than the charge. So it doesn't work,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: mister Staley, you know at all? So maybe change it.

- 1:13:32Speaker 1: It's just twenty bucks on or fill it up? No,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: I usually put in a certain amount that at the pump.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: I know you can Jerry Seinfeld from the commercial that
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: he did back in the day when he remember you
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: did that? Oh oh, and he pulled the credit card.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Apparently you don't all the way in there, all the way.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: It's not like you're walking fifteen miles. I can't understand
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: if you didn't have a credit card, all you have
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: was cast right, because then you got that. I can't
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: understand anyway, So I go into the store. It makes
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: no sense anyway I go into the spot is well,
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: stop it and let me finish the story. Why would
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: you go in? Oh, it's just such a hassle. It's
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: not a hassle. You're the laziest person I've ever known
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: that they did this at the I'm walking ten steps

- 1:14:13Speaker 1: I'll have this. It's such, it's for our convenience. Have
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: you ever seen the signs on there that a lot
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: of places say pre go inside and pre pay before
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: you pump? A lot of places won't let you do
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: that thing at the pump. You know, where the hell
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: do you? Maybe in Arkansas? That's another great moment from
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: those were the days? Huh hey. Bridgestone is the official
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: tire of the New England Patriots, and Bridgestone tires are

- 1:14:41Speaker 1: Visit Sullivan Tire dot com for a location near you.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Still waiting for my Bridgestone tires to arrive in the mail?
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: I haven't done him yet the mail into yeah big boxes. Yeah, anyway,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: Andy has left. He couldn't take it anymore Italy. But
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Evan's still here. And uh, did you come from practice?
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: I did? When did we get to that? And so
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: what do We got almost perfect attendance for the Patriots
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: to Marcus Mitchell, the only player missing from the active
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: roster time Montgomery though reported just a few minutes. I
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: don't know if you guys covered that that he is
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: not coming back. Jim McBride reporting he has done for
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: the year. Your shoulder surgery is what McBride said. So,
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: no time Montgomery this season. Yeah, we were talking about
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: him yesterday and we're like, yeah, it doesn't look good.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: You know. Now there's a two year deal. He'll be
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: back next year. I mean he's on a contract with him. Yeah.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: I mean, you know, you talk about disappointments. I was
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: a little disappointed. I thought that he would be a
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: contributor this year, you know, because absolutely I thought he
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: looked the best of anybody running the wide zone and
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: training camp. He looked like the only guy who kind
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: of seemed to get it and was able to like
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: pick the hole. And you know, there are a couple
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: runs with him up up the sideline. I think it's
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: a spot they're missing. I mean, I love Ramander Stevenson,
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: but I think they're they're lacking that you know, third
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: down kind of scat back, kind of thing. But we'll
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: see what they do when Harris gets back. Yeah, I
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: don't know if I don't want to make a huge
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: deal out of time Montgomer being the savior of this
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: offense or anything like that. But for two years now
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: they haven't had the James White, Shane Vereen, Kevin fall type.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: And Ramander has grown leaps and bounds in the passing game,
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: but that's just not his game. You know, He's a
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: two hundred and thirty pound running back. He's not gonna
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: break down at the top of the route and get
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: open on a linebacker on third and three and make
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: an easy throw for the quarterback. So I thought, especially
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: against the Colts, they got him isolated on Ocarecki. I
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: think it's how you pronounce it, Bobby Okarecki on the Colts,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: who's an athletic player, but they had him isolated on
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: him a few times, and Mac wanted to go there,
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: but Reminder just couldn't get away from the coverage. So
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: I think that Montgomery, like kind of like Mike was saying,
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: and training camp, was by far, in a way, the
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: best receiving back that they had on the roster, and
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: he was making plays and making plays in the preseason,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: so I think it would have been nice to have
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: somebody else, especially just to keep the pressure off of
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Vermontre and allow him to play a little bit less. Yeah,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: we'll get Harris back this week hopefully and get him
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: back in the mix. I also saw to Marcus Mitchell
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: that said Chris Mason reporting he's dealing with an illness.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: So it's been going around Wednesday. Were they in pads, Yes,
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: they were. They were in pads for this time of year,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: so they do. Mean, oh well they I don't always
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: think that they have leg pads on. They just have
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: the braces on on the lowers, but they have the
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: real shoulder pads. So there's there's going to be some
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: sort of you know, light contact or something like that. Okay,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: tackling or anything. But yeah, I mean we saw that
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: out in camp all the time, where they don't actually
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: tackle guys to the ground, but they kind of play
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: too more physical, too hand touch you know out there today, Yeah,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: it was pretty windy. Um, it's certainly starting to feel like,
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: you know, second half of the season. Weather, you know
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: where we're going to start to have weather games and weather.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: It's going to be a factor. Today it was a
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: little chilly, windy, rainy, foggy, you know, just kind of
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: a gross day out there right now. So it didn't
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: look cold, but I think we're starting to trend towards
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: that time of year certainly where we might get into
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: some weather games here. How much of practice were you
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: allowed to see? We saw the very first period of
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: positional drills, so stretching and then a little bit of
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: a positional drills, So we did see a little bit
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: more than we've seen probably since before the bye last
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: week the one day they kicked us out really really quickly,
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: and then on Monday we got kicked out after stretching.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: So today was the first time when we saw maybe
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: I don't know, ten minutes of practice start rainy weather though.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: So during that ten minutes, what was the mood of
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: the team. The mood of the team is always the same.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: Mood of the team never really changes too much, just work,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: not annoyed. The mood of the of the media, though,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: I mean, we're look, it's it's starting to get chilly
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: out there, right and then you gotta stand out there,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: and you gotta get get your pen out and your
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: roster he out. You gotta get the roster from sulking,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: you know, and you stand there and you start checking
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: off names and then your hands get cold. So the
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: gloves are coming out soon, not not the boxing gloves,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: the regular cloves, to make sure that you uh, you know,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: your hands don't go don't go numb. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, Okay,
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: and m are there is already talk from the media
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: about the short week and you know, oh yeah, travel
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: playing three games in twelve days, a lot of rousing,
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: run the gauntlet, Thanksgiving on the road. You got a
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: right of a football or lives are so difficult? A
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: lot of harrump thing. Yeah, all right, all right, good stuff.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: That's there's your practice report. Um lot going on. Yeah,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: got the emails coming in, so maybe we'll read some
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: of them. Read Pedro from Connecticut. He said, it's been
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: sometimes since I've emailed in. Hope you're feeling better, Mike,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: Oh yeah, something you think COVID. I wanted all of
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: your thoughts on how important this game is. As of today,
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: the Patriots are currently the last seed in the playoffs.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: Do you think this game could make or break the season?
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: I feel the outcome will have big implications later in
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: the season. Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, I don't
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: think their season is completely toast if they lose, but
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: it's pretty close to it. And I think it sets
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: the possibility that you're going to be the last place
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: team in the AFC East. I mean, I think it
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: sets the floor. Yeah, I don't think that you win
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: anything per se by winning, but I think you lose
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: a lot by losing. I feel like a lot on
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: the line. I feel like a play in game to me, Like,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: this is a game you gotta win. You're beating this
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: team a lot. You're probably maybe a little bit better
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: than them, I guess, but you know, win this game,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: then you get the opportunity to play, like slide ahead
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: of the Jets, at least with the tiebreaker, so you
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: know you have a path. You know, we could start
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: getting in front of some of these teams. And if
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: you lose your two games, more than likely you'd bet
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: two games behind the entire division. Everybody would be seven
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: and three, you'd be five and five. I think that's
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: what I'm assuming Buffalo wins at home against Generally speaking,
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: what I'm most interested in is what changes this year.
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: Like you've owned the Jets forever, does that finally change
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: and you lose a big game to them. You haven't
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: only been able to win a big game on the
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: road against a good team in a while. I mean,
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: can you do that in Minnesota or Vegas or the Cardinals.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: You haven't beaten Miami or in Buffalo in two years, So,
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: you know, are you able to get one of those wins?
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: I mean, there's just a lot of things that I'm curious,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: curious if they're going to change flip the script from
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: what we've seen in the last couple years, because if
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: it goes like it went the last couple of years,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: you know, you're talking about two wins, and you know
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: they'll they'll kind of fade down the street. So, Evan,
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: you watch Bill today, I did. I. You know, he mentioned,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: you know, having wrinkles for the Jets, Jets having wrinkles
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: for us. Which team do you think is best equipped
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: to have the biggest wrinkle? Probably the Jets. Honestly, yeah,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: I don't necessarily think it's a talent thing. I just
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: as of right now, I maybe not on defense, but offensively.
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: I trust their coaching staff more to come up with wrinkles,
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: to do things differently. When we were talking about changing
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: your offense on the fly, and is it possible and
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: things like that. I go back to twenty eighteen when
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: they reinvented themselves down the stretch into that twenty one
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: personnel base package, and that was all the conversation during
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Super Bowl Week when we talked to the coaches, was
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: we really we changed? Right? We got to that point
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: at Pittsburgh loss in Pittsburgh, and we kind of changed
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: the way that we were playing. And they had those
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: last two games at home against I think it was
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: the Jets in the Bills before the Bills were good,
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: and they were able to kind of practice again those
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: teams this new way of doing things. But that staff
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: had McDaniels running it, Scarneckia coaching the line, Fears coaching
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: the backs like that was a totally different animal, right
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: in terms of coaching chops on that side of the
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: football to be able to not only morph on the
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: fly and change how they were identity wise, but then
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: also to have compliments off of some of the things
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: that they were doing. So it wasn't all the same
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: thing over and over again. Have you even seen Fears
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: of practice at all? I mean, he was around a
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: lot earlier. He pops around. Yeah, in time, and you
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: know he's like partially retired, right, He's not running the
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: room anymore at the running backs, but he's he's around.
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: I saw him. I came in with him the other
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: day and I saw him driving as we're trying to
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: treat them. I didn't get I didn't get a chance
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: to talk to him. He just he drove by as
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I was walking through the parking lot. Eric's got that
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: retirement piece. It's still still cued up, still waiting, Dwayne
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: and Boston writes in I want to first acknowledge all
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: of the following excuses for Mac Jones's poor offensive performances.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: As I've heard from Patriots dot Com in the local
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: Boston media. Can't compare Mac to Brady because Brady's the goat,
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: no QB compares. Can't directly compare Max's production to other
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: young quarterbacks because he is not as physically gifted as
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: this pit. I have not heard that one can't compare
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: Max Zappy because Mack is the starter. No, I have
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: not heard that one either can't blame Mac for losses
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: when the defense couldn't stop a running quarterback. I haven't heard.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: I haven't heard that either can't blame Mac when he
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: can't find an open receiver that I've heard. Can't blame
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: Mac when the offensive I can't blame him. Yeah, I've heard.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: I've heard people, no one can get open, you can't
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: blame I've heard people blame no one's getting open, no one,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: no time. I've heard those excuses. Yes, can't blame Mac
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: when the offensive line gives up pressure. Okay for that,
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: Mac can't feel his toes after the angle injury. Bill
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: Belichick embarrassed back by benching him on Monday Night Football.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: That might be true, that's accurate, But that's Matt Patricia
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: and Joe Judge gave Zappy more straightforward in more creative plays.
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: Aren't they kind of different? And Matt Patricia and Joe
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: Judge are ruining Mac Jones very true. If we can't
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: have a discussion about any of those statements, let's look
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: deeper into how Mac Jones has performed. Mac had only
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: one game winning drive in his career, and that was
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: against the Houston Texans in the twenty twenty one season.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: In an alternate universe where Deshaun Watson never slides into
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: the DMS for home delivered happy ending Mac Jones would
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: Mac Jones would have zero game winning drives. Cam Newton
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: in an underwhelming twenty twenty season, had three by your estimation,
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: What can Max Jones do at an elite level as
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: an NFL starter? What does Mac need to do to
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: better score when the team needs points to win? What
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: do you want to start? I mean, look, I mean
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: I don't And I think this goes to Paul's thing of,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: you know, thinking that Max's gonna kind of escape. I
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: don't think he's escape criticism here. I mean I think
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: he's He's a part of the problem pie not on
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: our show. Yeah, not maybe the biggest part. But I mean,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: I just go back to we've been talking about a lot,
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: go back to last year, what you've been doing. You know,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: show some pocket presence when guys are open to deliver
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: the ball, you know, when you get creamed, like it's
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: that's not your fault. But he's got to at least
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: have a baseline. I mean, I think what Evan last
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: week you said something about Jared Goff being below the
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: line with the Rams, Like I feel like Max play
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: has been below the line even despite the issues that
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: they've had. Now, I don't think it's fair to put
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: it all on him, but I just think there have
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: been plays to be made that he hasn't made. I
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: don't think he had the same pocket presence that he
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: had last year. He doesn't look comfortable, he doesn't look
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: like he knows what they're doing. So I know it's
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: asking a lot, but welcome to the NFL, your quarterback.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: It's it's all on you, you know, and I you
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: know you weren't here earlier. I like Mac, you know,
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: I'm happy he's our quarterback, but but I have to
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: be honest. There's nothing he's done this year where I
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: can honestly say it's not back, you know, like he's
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: contributed to the poor play. I just I think the
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: why I roll my eyes and get get a little
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: agitated by emails like that is because when did we
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: ever say that Mac was elite at anything, like, at
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: any point, Like he wasn't elite last year as a rookie.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Was better last year as a rookie certainly than he's
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: been this year, way better, but nobody put him in
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: any upper echelon category ever. So I have always thought
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: the same thing about Mac Jones, going all the way
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: back to when he was drafted out of Alabama, which
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: is that he's a Kirk Cousins, He's a Derek Carr.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: He's in that category of quarterback where if you surround
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: him with good pieces and you coach him up and
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: you make things, you know, Cushnie Jimmy Garoppolo, like, if
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: you make things nice for him in the situation that
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: he's in, that he will not anchor what you're doing offensive.
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: No one's ever thought that mac Jones is a driving
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: force to offensive. I'm going to push back on that
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: a little bit, and I agree with your assessment, and
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: I think that's you speaking for yourself. I think there
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: were people last year that got all kinds of upset
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: when you use Kirk Cousins as a comp all kinds
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: of angry. I think a lot of that stems from
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: the fact that that was mac Jones. We thought thought
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: that that was mac Jones's floor because he was coming
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: in as a rookie and being the sixteenth best quarterback
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: in the league instantly, so we all thought, Okay, well,
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: he's going to just get better, right right, But the
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: problem is is that everything, the situation around him, has
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: significantly regressed. So now he is nowhere close to where
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: he was even last year. So we've rediscovered that now
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: there's a lower floor for mac Jones in the NFL
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: than maybe what we were hoping or what we had thought.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: But to go back to Kirk Cousins, if you turn
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: on that tape against the Bills from Sunday, he was terrible.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: He was horrible in that game. He threw four would
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: be interceptions and they drop two of them. He threw
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: one interception where he threw it directly to a Buffalo
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: defender right to him. The only reason why the Vikings
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: were in that game were because of Justin Jefferson and
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: because Josh Allen fumbled the ball in his own end zone.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Those are the two reasons why they were in that game.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: So I just come back to all the time and
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: say the same thing with Kirk Cousins. I think it's
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: a great example. When I watched Kirk Cousins play, like
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: when I watch that tape yesterday, it's the same guy.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: I feel like I'm staring into a mirror like the
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: Spider Man meme. Because he's jittery in the pocket, his
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: arm strength down the field is limited when his first
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: read is open or his All Pro receiver is making
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: a ridiculous play on the ball. They move the football
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: down the field. So if you put Mac Jones on
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: this Minnesota Vikings team, I don't think it really falls
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: off that much. But the problem is is that the
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: Patriots have a worse play caller. They don't have Justin
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: Jefferson on the team, and so now we have the
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: product that we have. Travis and West Virginia says sorry
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: for the caller on caller mudslinging yesterday, will stick to
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: football today. I always find myself comparing Mac Jones to
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: other quarterbacks from the past, and they came up with
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: a good one to contemplate. Has Mac Jones shown you
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: anything that makes you believe he is better than Jay Fiedler,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: Oh my god, jaf Fiedler, I I couldn't tell you
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: off about And I think I think they're pretty similar. Yeah,
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: I think you can. I think you can win. I
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: think the only difference that I have is I think
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: that's the ceiling. Like the Kirk Cousins, like Derek Carr
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: think that to me, that's the best he can be,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: and other people think that's the worst he can be.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: No like that to me is where I's That's that's
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: the expectation. I'm hoping Simms, that's gone back way too
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: far from me. You only Phil Simms. I think it's you.
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: You're talking about kind of the same thing. Yes, yeah, ye,
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: I don't different era, but but same kind of thing.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: I don't think kirk Cousins's floor. I think that that's
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: what I hope, like he would be on that level
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: of a player and the floor is lower. Yeah, And
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: don't take that as a shot. I didn't mean that you.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: I mean like last year, and Fred will tell you.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: If you brought up the Andy Dalton's, the Kirk Cousins,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: the Derek Cars, people got very upset, very very hurt.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: They got very upset at you for underselling their quarterback. Yeah,
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: and like, believe me, I took it all last year
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: and and like that's I'm fine with that. I'm a
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: big boy. I can handle criticism. But if you said
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: that that was that it was his ceiling, people attacked
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: you right for that. Oh, he's gonna be much so.
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: Paul asked me a question today and I had to pause.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: I was a little upset about that. I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: I wasn't ansating it being a real question, would right now,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: would you take Zach Wilson or Matt Jones? So you
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: had a pause too, didn't expect him to pause either.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. The reason why I'm should have
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: brought this to the table and show prep. The reason
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: why I'm pausing is because I guess like it's hard
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: because if you give Bill Zach Wilson's that's my answer,
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: that's my answer. Can he coach? That's my answer. I'd
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: be intrigued to see what Bill could do with those skills,
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: assuming he's coachable, assuming he's coaching. Right, And I also
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: said that right, we just had the same conversations right
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: if Bill, Like I just could never imagine a world
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: that Bill would have gone into that game two weeks
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: ago and said, we're gonna throw at forty one times.
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: We don't need to score any points to win the game,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: but we're gonna have our guy who's not ready to
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: throw the ball forty one times throw at forty one times.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Like I just could never envision a world where Bill
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: would go into a game and think like that. And again,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: the game was never out of hand. They didn't have
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: to get away from the run because of the score.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: I don't think it was a one score game in
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: the four quarter. Yeah, like they stopped running it because
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: they didn't want to run anymore. Well, they couldn't run it.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: I think that's a bit they didn't try. They ran
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: twelve times. Every single time they ran it though it
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: was I mean, they had a couple of like four
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: or five yard games in there. But the Patriots run
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: defense played a good game. They did, they did, but
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: they ran it twelve times. Yeah, like you never allowed yourself.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: And again, there's a million games that I could think
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: of off the top of my head where you run
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: the ball eight times because you fell behind twenty one.
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: Nothing in that game was a one score game in
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. Yeah, Like they did not have to
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: stop running. Well, this is like one of those things
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: that you know to go like I was, you know,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: taking a shot at Shot McDermott earlier when Andy was here. Like,
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: this is one of those things I feel like that
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: Belichick still has on the rest of the league, and
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: that is feel for the game during the game, right
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: like when Bill when you're in a game against the team,
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: I feel like he has such a great sense of
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: game flow like what what's how's it going? Game? Right?
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: Like what what are we? What are we doing? You
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: know we like, to Paul's point, okay, we're up ten
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: to nothing early. You know, let's not have Zach Wilson
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: dropped back forty times because we don't need we can
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: win this game ten to nothing, so let's just That's
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: why it was so surprising to me in that particular
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: game that they passed up field goals, right, because that
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: that to me, was very out of character for Bill. Yeah,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: I've seen them pass up field goals in a game
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: that ended up, you know, thirty four to twenty eight, right,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: but that game was was apparent that you weren't going
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: to need thirty five points to win, right. And you know,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: I go to the Bill's game from Sunday because you
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: look at that Vikings offense and it's like, if Justin
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: Jefferson doesn't beat you, then who is? Because Adam Thieland
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: is not Adam Feeland anymore. Hockinson just got there. I
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: guess it Dalvin Cook in the run game potentially, But
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: that was a myriad of probably we've spent like the
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: whole show yesterday, like they they did so many things
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: wrong in that game. Yeah, fundamentally wrong that you lost
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: track there. Just there were like major plays that they
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: screwed up that you don't even remember because it was
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: like the eleventh most egregeous thing they did wrong. Maybe
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: maybe we ecro on Thursday night next week on Thanksgiving
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: and the Patriots give up one ninety and a touchdown
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: to Justin Jefferson, But I highly doubt it because there's
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: no way that Bill is putting his rookie sixth round
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: pick corner on an island against the best receiver in
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: the league the entire game and just saying to Ben
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: Ford or what's the Jackson Drake Jackson? I think is
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: the other corner on Buffalo? Like you got eighteen Dane,
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: Dane got it. I would even say, like you can
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: even have the same plan that you had, like schematically
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: just on fourth and eighteen, tell him don't try to
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: pick the pass off, like just make the tackle or
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: knocked the ball down. Either one would have worked because
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: if he had gone in and hit him, he can't
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: catch it. And if he had just knocked the ball down,
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: he couldn't catch it. He allowed him to get his
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: hand on the ball because he was trying to catch it,
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: which is like a cardinal rule fourth and eighteen. You
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: don't need you don't need the pick, just to watch
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: your corners go out there and get beat like a
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: drum time and time and time again by Justin Jefferson.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: And we don't jam him, we don't bracket him, we
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: don't do anything to stop him. And that to me
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: is you could say what you want about all the
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: other extracurriculators with Bill. He would never allow Justin Jefferson.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: It would have to it would be harder. Well, I
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: mean I shouldn't say it would be harder. If that's
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: gonna happen, I would think they would be more plays
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: like that fourth in eighteen because I mean it's hard
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: to sit there and say, oh it was so easy.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: It wasn't easy. They had great coverage on him a
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: lot of those plays. They just didn't make the play
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: because the other guys better than you, right, Like I
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: mean that that that was the the ultimate player thing,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: like when we talk about you gotta have players like
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: that wasn't Because Kevin O'Connell is such a great coach,
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: his player was better than the guys covering them, or
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: Ker Cousins a quarterback. You know, he was just better.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: M Taylor says, So a lot has been said about
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: the offensive line because it's frankly offensive. What worries me
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: is that we have three first round picks on the
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: line and the only one not benched by poor performance
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: was the guy we didn't actually draft. I'm terrified to
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: invest any draft capital into that line too, because I
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: don't trust that the pick will work out. Trent was
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Trent now, Trent said, third day three guy, he was
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: like a six or seven three. Yeah, so it's just
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: a win winning strange the first round picks. We've known
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: this about win and one of those fourth round pick
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: apparently win should have been fourth round pick too. Yeah.
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: Stop it. We gotta get that line right. Yeah. I mean,
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: what would you think of of a bill saying and
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: when us a guard? Fine? I think a problem is
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: is that you're you're putting two guys out a position
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: to maybe save one spot if you move him right,
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: because now you have a backup playing at rank guard
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: and a backup playing at right tackle. So you hope
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: that it fixes right tackle. But what was they going
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: to do to right guard right? You just don't know.
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: I think it comes down to, though, to a degree,
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: where would you rather the whole be? Like if you
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: know that you're gonna have a weak link, like it's
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: not you're not you don't have five playable linement. Man,
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: so you know that one guy is going to be
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: a weak link. Would you rather be on the interior
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: or would you rather be a tackle? In theory, I
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: think that it's easier to mask a tackle. Sure, right tackle,
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: you got your eyes on him right, terior pressure gonna
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: kill you right off, the step up in the pocket,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: chip slide, the protection, that direction, like all those types
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: of things are more doable, I would think for a tackle.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: But with that being said, just because you can maybe
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: help out a Yadney could uice. He can't be a
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: turnstyle either, Like you can't. It's still the NFL. So
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: that Marcus Cannon snap where he's just got like what
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: or was that wins first snap? Yeah, it gets on
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: skates right, Like you can't. You can't be a turnstyle.
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: You still have to be a representable blocker. And I
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: still fall back on in that situation last year when
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Trent Brown was out all that time and they didn't
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: just put a when you out there like he ended
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: up not starting at all and some of the games,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: but I think he started like three of the games
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: at tackle. Like the fact that they had all those
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: moving parts and still didn't want him out there tells
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: me that they really feel strongly about him being a guard. Yeah,
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: he's their next Shack Mason um occasionally free agent after
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: next year. I'm yeah, not I I don't know, that's
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: that's what I think they'll sign him. I think, why
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: why not? They won't and then they'll draft a guard
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: in the first round. I think, just based on I'll
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: say it right here, and Manu will be on the
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: Patriots in twenty twenty three. See, that would irritate me,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: Like we're gonna let I'm not gonna blame them for
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: as Felger likes to say, I'm not gonna blame them
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: for things that haven't happened yet. But with all of
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: the guys that they let walk, they're gonna resign a
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: guard like great, the only Sun guy, but he'll be
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: one of them. They're obsession with yards drives me nuts. Yes,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: it really does. Like they resigned Tuny to the franchise
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: and they resigned Mason to an extension, Like that's not
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: what I want to spend my money. If you want
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: to talk about like the big picture stuff with this
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: team right now, that that kind of stuff worked when
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: you had Tom Brady, Like when you had Tom Brady
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: and you knew you and a good roster on defense,
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: and like you knew you were loaded and you were
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: either Super Bowl or bust, and you're in the AFC
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Championship game every single year. You can draft a guard
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: in the first round and you can be like, all right,
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: that's fine, Like, you know, we we have no holes
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: anywhere else that we really feel strongly about. We need
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: a guard plug and play. We draft the guard at
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: this point of this organization, like the very the first
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: round pick needs to be the best guy available on
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: the board, regardless of position. And it wasn't they It
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: wasn't even cold strange for them, right, So that that's
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: you know, they drafted a guard because they had a
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: hole at guard, Like that was it? Ye Jamie and
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: Omaha rights And I've heard oh Lineman not play well
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: if they don't like or respect their coach. Also, our
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: QB play seems to have regressed. We heard that both
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: Mattie p and Judge lost the locker room as head
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: coaches and weren't very liked. While Mattie p might be
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: an okay coordinator, could he really be a crappy old
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: line coach? Same for Judge. We talk about how Mac
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: isn't progressing and isn't seeing it well? Is Judge seeing it?
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: Is he able to coach Mac up? I'm not trying
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: to give Mac a pass, but even the wide receivers
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: started started aren't looking all right and now we're having
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: clubs for hands. Has our offense stopped believing this could work?
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: Have the two head offensive coaches lost the locker room.
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know, I don't I don't
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: I don't think yet, But I'll just say this, I'm
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: I don't know what we're gonna see on Sunday, but
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: I would hope that it seems like a team that
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: has refocused and you know, has some of that energy
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: that you talk about, because I did feel earlier in
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: the year it felt a little bit like the offensive
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: line maybe a little bit disengaged. I mean, I still
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: feel out a little bit about about win. I mean,
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: Brown Is I think settled in a little bit and
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: and been better. But I don't know, I'm kind of
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: trying not to jump to conclusions right now, right before
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: we got these big eight games, because this is where
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: this is going to be the defining part of this
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: season and everything we talk about the whole lost season.
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: I think it is going to be within these eight games,
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: not really what happened earlier in the season. I think
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: those games are like preseason games essentially to me. Now,
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: hopefully Andrews coming back solidifies two positions center and guard. Yeah,
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: you know, I try not to look into the five
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: seconds of practice that they let us watch, But Isaiah
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: Winn was taking some reps at left tackle and Trent
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: at right. So could there be a major scheme change. Yeah,
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: they could be switching back to where they were last year.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: That is a scheme change a little bit, not really, No,
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: I mean personnel change. Yeah, We've talked about Whin all
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: over the place, Tier about how he just hasn't transitioned
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: to right tackle. You know, it's footwork, it's been awful
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: at right tackle. It's just it looks like he's he's
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: backwards right, it looks like he's he's been flipped, and uh,
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: you know, maybe they feel like go back to where
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: it was last year and and that will see I
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: don't I don't think that gets enough attention. I think
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: everybody just loves to kill Isaiah Winn. And it's just
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: like slightly in his defense, like all of a sudden,
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: he's playing on the right side, and it's just like, no,
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: they are, that's where you're playing now, like like it's
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: it's not the Bill said, you know, some people can
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: do it, but not everyone can go from one side
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: to the other trans gone from one side to the
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: other like nothing, like he can do it yeah easily,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: but yeah, I mean it's like, you know, if you're
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: righty and someone hands your dependance says you can only
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: right left handed all day, like just right Paula that
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: because unless you're unless you're what's it, you know, use
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: both hands like it's for some guyshibious. You know, when
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: did Trent Brown or like, you know, two different makeups.
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: You know when is a big guy, but he's he's
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: shorter obviously in a little bit, you know, yeah, Trent
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: Brown's taller. Does this do anything? Like if they decided
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: we are going to run the RPO a little bit more,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: does this change that? Now Trent's on the other side.
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: You know, with with Matt being a you know, a righty,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: does that change it and how they you know, might
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: approach RPOs? I think what it does, is it your
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: two best run blockers are Trent Brown and Mike on Winnu.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: So now that you put them on the same side
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: of the line, that can be a hopefully that could
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: be a something that works consistently, right like, we're just
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: gonna we're gonna run it. Meanwhile on the other side
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: during passing. So now now I mean to your think,
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: like you know, a scheme change. Maybe they're gonna power
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: up on that right side and they're going to become
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: a power running team and predominantly to the right right right,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: I don't know who knows, Well, that's what they did
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: last year. And then you know you have you get
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: Trent Brown and on Winnu. You get them on a
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: on a double team, you pull the guard and now
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: all of a sudden, we're moving people and then you
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: hit the play action off of the pulling guard and
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: now we have an offense, right like, now we're starting
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: to sequence things together. That's the Josh McDaniel's offense, right,
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: That's what they were doing last year. So if that's
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: the direction that we're moving in, then yeah, okay, maybe
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: that's the step in the right. I mean last year
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: was Shack Mason and Trent I should say, but same idea, right,
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: same philosophy. I just think like them passing down power
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: rushers off the left side when you got Winning Strange,
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: now that that's a concern, right, Like, that's something that
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: now you really have to think about. And it's mac
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: mac backside too, so I know there's always give and
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: take with everything that they do. I mean, I guess
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: it speaks to why they might have initially done it.
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: But that's why I'm not looking too much into the
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: fact that they showed us that today because I just
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of issues with Win in
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: strange next to each other on the left side. I mean,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: Mike on Weddow couldn't play next to Win on the
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: left side left guard last year Cole Strange with him there.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: It just that seems like a disaster. We'll see, well,
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: you know, just something to keep in mind on Sunday
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: when they start at one up and whatnot. Yep. Um
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: David Bethlehem wants to know why has John hu Smith
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: been in effective this season. Who else can run snappy
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: routes besides Myers? I don't know. It's the same thing.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: I mean, it's the same thing as last year. I
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: was gonna say, why was he ineffective? Way? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: it's been. It's been. It's one of those guys that
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: just doesn't really fit. But don't you get a sense
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: he's starting to get a little bit more integrated not
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: other week. And the only time he ever catches passes
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: when they throw screens to him. I mean, I know
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: everyone will probably have numbers that, but I just to
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: my mind's eye, they have to design a play to
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: throw the ball to him for him to contribute. The
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: biggest issue that I have with a guy like Johnny
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: is not necessarily his production. It's more the evaluation of
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: the player in free agency versus your plan for him
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: as a coaching staff. Like, if you're going to sign
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: a guy you know, don't you have to have some
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: sort of a plan of how you're going to use him?
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: And what was the plan plan with Johnny Smith? Because
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: he is the type of receiver that needs to be
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: schemed open and needs to be his screens or misdirection,
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: and he's a catch and run player. He's not a
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: route runner. He can run the seam a little bit,
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: but for the most part, he's a straight line guy.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: Like you get the football in his hands and he
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: goes like that's the idea of Johnny Smith. So when
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: you acquired him in free agency, when you signed him,
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: there had to have been some semblance of a plan
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: of how exactly we're going to use this player because
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: he is a unique player. This isn't you know, Hunter
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: Henry is a traditional tight end, right, you can put
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: him on a tight end rout tree, you can put
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: him in line and just have him play why like
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: the whole game. Like that's just Hunter Henry is just
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: your natural, traditional why tight end. Johnny Smith's his own thing.
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: So if you don't have a plan for him, he's
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: not going to be good. Now, he's not a smooth athlete,
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: like he's just he's very choppy. And it's funny because
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: he is an incredibly good athe but he just agree
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: with you at all and and and to your point
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: of than like like at this point, part of me
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: just feels like we got money to spend, we have
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: no tight ends. It's an absolute like just black hole
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: in terms of production in twenty nineteen to tight end,
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: let's just grab these guys who who have been you know,
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: and to the other guy to wonder, like with Henry,
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: not that Henry was like George Kittle last year, but
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: Henry had a good, solid year and this year he's
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: kind of been an afterthought. And you know, I still
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: I've been wrong because they haven't done it. But I
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: still wonder when you get down there and you're having
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: all these struggles in the red zone, why they haven't
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: really tried to integrate him anymore. Yeah, in the red zone.
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's funny you said that, Paul and
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: one touchdown, and I'm like, it seems like everybody after
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: Myers is an afterthought, Like everybody like the receivers. I mean,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: I guess Stevenson you could say he hasn't been an afterthought,
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: but it's like every touch year nobody's involved, every touchdown
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: they get in the red zone is like they finally
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: execute one of those routes, right like as opposed to
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: like we're just gonna remember last year, like Henry would
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: just run run a little too, He'd run into the
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: end zone, turn box a guy out, No nothing, fancy no,
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: like you know, he'd be like a yard yard over
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: the goal line, use his big frame like a basketball player,
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: and he'd catch a touchdown. I mean, I think Evan
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: might back me up on this, but I've seen like
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: a fair number of those plays this year where it's
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: it's been you know, and you kind of see him
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: and he turns and he's I think, gets us back
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: to Mac. I can't honestly say that he's not part
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: of the problem. I think last year he had just
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: so much more trust and everything that was going on
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: around him, where this year we're talking to you know,
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: the route that Paul's talking about, you gotta throw that
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: before the receiver comes out of the break, right, So
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: if if he doesn't trust this guy, all of a sudden,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: now it's a pick six going in the other direction.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: And I think that that's in his head. You call
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: it trust? Was it more just I'm just doing what
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: they tell me to do, and then this year he's
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: thinking too much. I think it's trust because it's he's
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: thrown so many picks already this year that if you're
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: on the three yard line, let's call it, and you're
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: trying to run a sit route to Hunter Henry on
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: the goal line and he falls or he stumbles, and
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: then all of a sudden it's to pick six going
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: in the other direction, and it's like, oh here, you know,
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: here we go again, right, you know? So, I think
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: a lot of the instances with Mac that you're seeing
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: on tape is that he wants he's no longer anticipating throws.
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: He needs to see it open. The only guy that
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: he anticipates throws with his Jacobi. Everybody else needs to
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: show Mac I am open, throw me the ball before
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: he's going to throw the football because so many bad
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: things have happened this year off of those trust throws
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: that he just won't pull the trigger. And that's the
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: thing with him. And by that point is too late
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: because he doesn't have like if he's he sees it late,
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: he can't get it there extra quick to make up
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: for that disc difference. And I think that you know,
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: that goes to just the problem and not seeing it
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: like he did. He has to see it, He has
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: to anticipate, he has to be able to throw with
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: confidence to these guys. And I mean, it's just it's
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: all connected. Alex writes in says he loves the addition
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: of Evan. I wish he could be in every show
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: a regular Well he is in Catch twenty two, right, Um.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: He really is relatable to millennials growing up as a
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: fan of this team and just adds unmatched context that
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: a normal viewer wouldn't know. I also think he brings
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: the best out of Paul when Evan is in the room,
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: Paul seems to want to bring his a game to
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: try to match Evan's football prowess. He also seems he
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: also seems to be extra contrarian to everything. Evan says, Wow,
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: these compliments, thank you. Perhaps Paul is in a Brady
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: Bledsoell situation he sees a young stud in the making
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: his concern. Yeah, I don't really buy that. But I
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: think Paul's consistent. I think you're you're always you just
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: always have your I never care about any event than
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: I'm very consistent. Sounds very nice, Thank you. I just
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: wanted to feel at home. Mike's and Florida on the
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: A sticket outline. What's up, Mike, Mike Stinky Florida. Yeah,
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: you guys can hear me? Yes? Hey real quick? Ums
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: were touching on it a little bit what's your opinion
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: or your thoughts on max ability to as we like
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: to say, or people call it, throw people open. Is
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: that something he can do something you can't do. I
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: think just gets back to what Evan was just talking
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: about trust. You know, I don't think right now he
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: does that. He doesn't do that like throwing it on
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: the break when you're when you see the guy's numbers,
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: throw it anyway because you're confident he's going to break
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: the right way at the right depth and the ball's
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: there as he makes his break. But yeah, he's not
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: doing that. He's not, I mean personally. That's why I
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: liked the you know, it was a small sample. I
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: admit that the handful of plays they made in the
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Baltimore game, because I thought there were some examples of
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: that at the back shoulder to Davante park They weren't
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: just it wasn't like he was just streaking free the
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: whole time. He kind of threw them open, and Parker
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: made adjustments on the ball and made they made some
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: plays that you know, when they would developing, you weren't
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: sure that that was there. You know, I go, I
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: the trust thing is the biggest thing for me. Because
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: I think the Jacobe Myers pick six that didn't count
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: is the perfect example of that, right, Like he throws
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: it before Jacoby comes out of the break. He thinks
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: he's breaking out. Jacoby breaks in pick again, And those
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: types of plays, even the ones that don't count, those
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: you log that in the computer, right, And then all
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: of a sudden it's like, I'm not one hundred percent
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: sure that we're on the same page here, and there's hesitation,
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: and I when it comes to throwing guys open. Look,
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: I know that the guys that he played with at
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: Alabama were supremely talented players. But if you go and
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: turn on that his twenty twenty season Abama and watch
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: Davante Smith and John Metchi make plays on the ball
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: down the field, they're not always wide open, right, And
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: and Mac is throwing the ball in spots and just
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: letting them go up and pluck the ball over defenders,
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: because so he had that in him. This has been
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: trained out of him, right, is point. It's also that
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: trust knowing that the guy I'm throwing too is better
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: than the guy covering him. Yeah, but I'm not saying
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: that back shoulder passes have you know, don't need to
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: be accurate. They do. They need to be Oh, I
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: think they need to pinpoint. But it's to me, that's
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: not the same as like hitting a guy before he
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: makes his break, you know, knowing you know, it's a
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: little it's a different type of of play. You know,
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: it's more of a jump ball where it's very hard
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: to defend the back shoulder pass, you know, but when
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: you throw a guy open, he could be defended. You know,
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: the guy could be on his hip, but you know
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: he's gonna make the break and he's gonna he's gonna
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: get that step out of the break and the ball's
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: going to arrive on time. He doesn't know any of
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: those things right now. He doesn't know the guy's going
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: to make the break. I think he doesn't notice that. Mike, Yeah,
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: go ahead, Mike. Yeah. I was just gonna say, how
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: how much do you think that limits this offense? And
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: if he doesn't have those guys to be able to
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: do that with Oh, I think it's it's you're welcome.
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: I think it's usually it's hugely limited. Yeah, it really
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: is a huge part of it. I mean, and I
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: think it just goes back to the point of like
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: getting back to you know what Max strins were and
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: what he was good at coming out, And I think
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: you know, if you can't get back to those things,
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: then you're never gonna hit any kind of ceiling with him.
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: He's got to do the things he did well coming
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: out first and foremost. All right, that's gonna be it
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. Uh, stay tuned for
