- 0:23I'm Dave. I'm from Moria Man on the album Rosewater Black's coming out on
- 0:28July twenty first, and where super keen to get that one out, beautiful,
- 0:33Dave. Thanks for joining us tonight. It cheers mate, thanks for
- 0:36me, Thank you. Bye pleasures. As you say, Maria released your
- 0:40third album at Rosewater Black on July the twenty first. So how you feeling
- 0:44about it? Ah? Excited, really excited, a bit nervous, but
- 0:48very excited. Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, we're all very keen.
- 0:53Where where's the nerves come from? Is that like you're worried about how
- 0:56to be received, You're worried about you didn't put your best foot forward?
- 0:59Like what sort? So think bit of everything mate, Like obviously you want
- 1:03it to be a seed as well. But I mean it's we've start on
- 1:07it for a while, we've we finished it. What was it May twenty
- 1:11two, were finished recording this and it's been like it's been a long time
- 1:15and we all know it's we're all very happy with it. Yeah, I
- 1:19mean, we're all very very happy with this. This recording. It's very
- 1:22personal, it's very close to us all. There's a lot of nerves and
- 1:26a lot of emotion in it all, I guess. So, yeah,
- 1:30it's a big yes close to us. So tell us a bit about the
- 1:34album from a musical point of view on what you're going for with it.
- 1:37Maybe the guys actually created it throughout COVID and they sent me complete songs,
- 1:44and I mean, as you I'm sure you can see the monster songs,
- 1:47like eight minute tracks in there, and I mean, you know, clearly
- 1:51COVID brought something out in the in the boys and I got some complete tracks
- 1:56and each and every one of them is kind of their own story, but
- 1:59they're all very personal. They're all very very close to myself, and I
- 2:05think that's they're obviously very close to the guys in the way that ire written
- 2:08because the music is a motive as well. Hell so I wanted to make
- 2:12sure that was put across in the right way too, and something come out
- 2:15of me that was obviously very personal too. That worked. I think it
- 2:19worked. Now. The press release says it's your most adventurous and intimate release
- 2:23to date. So we've discussed the intimate bit, But would you agree with
- 2:27the adventurous bit absolutely? I mean, the later couple of songs that were
- 2:31written on the last album were venturing into the longest side I think into seven
- 2:36minutes and these ones, like I said, they go into eight minute songs
- 2:38and I think it's well as fire tracks and I think it's forty forty eight
- 2:44minutes or something like that. I can't remember exactly. Yeah, it's it's
- 2:47a big effort. They're the guys just I don't know they outwrote themselves.
- 2:53I think they did really well. Yeah, I guess it lives in modern
- 2:55modern age bro Like everything's so so disposable. You know, people's attention spans
- 3:00are getting less and less, So how is it difficult to write a long
- 3:05song like that and still try and make sure you're keep people's attention. I
- 3:08guess so they get they get bored pretty easy these days. We're about to
- 3:13find out. And I mean, look, two are the more popular songs
- 3:20off the last album. I guess in the longer times as well. So,
- 3:24I mean I found it a bit difficult at first. I've written some
- 3:28of the songs I've written four or five times each before I finalized them.
- 3:32And I'm sure the guys did too. I know they did on their parts.
- 3:38I don't know how they managed to get into writing such big songs,
- 3:43but we have and it worked for us. I think, I think we
- 3:45do it. We do it justice. I think I don't know how.
- 3:47I don't know what the formula is. Hopefully it does keep people interested.
- 3:52If it keeps you interested, it's bound to keep someone else interested in it.
- 3:54That's kind of how I see it too. You know, I've been
- 3:57listening to the middle of my whole life and I quite enjoy what week.
- 4:00So that's got to say something. All right, Now, as you say,
- 4:02there is only five tracks on the album, so I want to run
- 4:06through it one at a time, and you just tell us a bit more
- 4:08about him, like I'm not sure if I've got these in order or not,
- 4:11but we'll start with Withering. So Withering, Yeah, again, every
- 4:15song was sent to me as a whole, and last time there was some
- 4:20track titles suggested. These were all given to me as basically do as you
- 4:24will. I Withering was related to a lung disease I've got throughout COVID as
- 4:30well, So that was a big part where I didn't realize. I didn't
- 4:32know if I'd be able to do what I'm doing again or whatever, And
- 4:36thankfully I ended up going into a mission without having an issue since, but
- 4:41it was a few years where it was shitty times. So that reflects on
- 4:45the lung disease one. Absolutely, yeah, and I love that one too,
- 4:48like it did. It starts off with the acoustic and it's really mellow
- 4:51and sort of lulls into a false sense of security before. I mean,
- 4:55like, is that the first track on the album? No, I think
- 5:00I believe it's no return to the fallen thought that would be a perfect issue,
- 5:04just like with the ambience then smashing in the face. Yeah, well,
- 5:09of course, yeah, true idem Honestly, I can't remember the track
- 5:13listing off the top of my head right now. I thought I had it
- 5:16right that. I read back through Jenner's review and she was saying, this
- 5:19song was here, this song was here, and it's like, that's completely
- 5:23different. Now I've got it. As long as you got that's all that
- 5:27matters. Okay, we'll move on to chains change, Yes, they change
- 5:30again. Made. My health is a big part of this album. It's
- 5:35been I struggled. I struggled with a few things. I've got all man
- 5:39issues and so that one is later. I got Type one diabetes and that's
- 5:44literally basically our issues I was dealing with for a while, just sleepless nights
- 5:50and the constant seezes and stuff like that I was going through for about six
- 5:54or seven months. And that's again playing on that one. A bit of
- 5:58a heavy song, but a right and gone too early. That's gotta gone
- 6:04to early doors. So gone to Early Doors is my brother passed when I
- 6:11was about twenty years ago, and that's literally for my brother song. I've
- 6:15wanted to write for more since he passed. And yeah, it's again a
- 6:17hard one to write. You got to make sure it comes out right.
- 6:20And I think again that one, I'm we're all very proud of that one,
- 6:25especially. Yeah have you played that one like yet? No, No,
- 6:28we haven't, And that's yeah checking patially. Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
- 6:33We've we've got a video coming out for that one as well, so
- 6:36we've just finished up on that. That's we're really excited about that too.
- 6:40That's a good one, I think, too cool. All right, you've
- 6:43got no returning to the Fallen. Yeah, that's a very typically me style
- 6:48written song I found and the last album I wrote a few. I this
- 6:51the sort of moving forward, not looking back on the past and leaving behind
- 6:57you what you need to leave behind? Yeah, they were finished with the
- 7:00title track, rose Water Black. It's a great title. I've got no
- 7:02idea what it means, but I fucking love it. So again, very
- 7:09personal my partner and I is literally written for my partners to love song.
- 7:15Rosewater Black is everything I wear is pretty well black and she wears a lot
- 7:19of pink and it's kind of mixed a few words together and come up with
- 7:23rosewater Black and come up with the song, and we all decided that's a
- 7:26pretty banging name for a title too. So for the album, these are
- 7:30short but sweet answers for incredibly long songs. We're pretty direct, I guess.
- 7:36Yeah, So how would say overall the music on on Rose Water Black
- 7:42is different than your previous two albums, Universe and and This Too Short Pass.
- 7:46I wasn't part of University, but from I absolutely loved it, and
- 7:50they have between that and this too, there was definitely a progression of a
- 7:55lot of growth the guys have because in the way they write, I feel
- 8:01it's it's just coming forward and leaps and bounds. They're obviously listening to something
- 8:05something different, but I don't know the songs sing a bit I don't want
- 8:11to say, more technical, but they're drawn out in a more epic sort
- 8:16of fashion. Like this album that they sent me with. I was blown
- 8:22away myself when they said it. To other, Fuck, this is good
- 8:24music. You know that they can write good tunes. Now your music sort
- 8:28of generally generalization, it's it's subtle blending of progressive metal and melodic death metal,
- 8:33which isn't a common mix made like, well, where does it come
- 8:37from? It did works well, but it's sort of not done very often.
- 8:41I don't think it was intentional. We were definitely just the Mellow Death
- 8:45band when I joined. Everything we were listening to was that I was told
- 8:48to based our sound around was just standard Mellow Death. But this is where
- 8:54we've wound up. Yeah, Like I said, I mean the guys definitely
- 8:58listened to a bit of everything. You know they've got really, I mean,
- 9:01all right, So we're playing with Harakiri for the guy at the end
- 9:05of the year as well, and they're we're looking forward to that. But
- 9:09they're a huge influence on at least one of my guitarists. I know that
- 9:13much. So I don't know if that's similarly where it comes from the writing
- 9:18different. You're right, it's a mix of progressive and melodif and I don't
- 9:24know, I don't know where it came in. We just began that way.
- 9:28Don't need to know as long as it works, brother, that's it
- 9:30just just happened. Now. You're also heading off on your first Isralian tour
- 9:35to promote the album in August. So was that a typeo of the press
- 9:39release? Is it really your first Australian tour believe it or not? Yes?
- 9:43So the thing with the first album was a lot of the other guys
- 9:46were in other band, so look a bit of a backseat a lot of
- 9:50the time, a lot of a lot of shows to play, but I
- 9:54believe a lot of them were more just cameras. See then with this two
- 10:00shot pass we released that name OVID yet so that just ruined all those plans.
- 10:05Played a few other shows since then. It's a nice nice shows,
- 10:07good shows, but we just haven't really had the time to booking anything until
- 10:11this. Really, it's unfortunate it's taken us this long, and I know,
- 10:16like we're all a bit bummed about it. Where it's finally here?
- 10:18Oh cool? And where where can people find out dates and and where are
- 10:24you going to Well, we're working with your mate bookings with the tour,
- 10:30so all for your mate bookings, he's got all the info. There are
- 10:33facebooks, he's got all the link information as well. Mate. It's we're
- 10:39playing August ninth and Sydney at the Marriage for Bollow the twenty fourth, so
- 10:48the twenty third at the Gasto in Melbourne, twenty fourth at Duntry Festival in
- 10:50ge Long and August thirtieth of the Baso and Canberra and hopefully into the next
- 10:56year we're going to book a few more Brisbane at La Birth of Mind not
- 11:00we're looking into that. We well, there's going to be fuck all people
- 11:03out there who've seen your live then if you haven't toured austral before, so
- 11:05tell us the typical of Mooring and live show. What can they expect if
- 11:09they come along? Maybe we always put in one hundred percent. We're going
- 11:15to play a few from the news and plenty from the old stuff too.
- 11:18So it's again it's tricky with long songs, trying to fit in as many
- 11:22as we can, but you know, we'll do a bit, make sure
- 11:26we play all the ones that everyone wants to hear if they want to hear,
- 11:28No, all right, ovil that seems for your time. Brow Rose
- 11:31Water Black is out July twenty first. I haven't listened to the whole thing,
- 11:35but one of our riders, Jannel Flood, has and she loves it.
