- 0:32This is the Eat More Carbs podcast.
- 0:39Hello, It's Jenna here with Riley.
- 0:41This is the Eat More Carbs podcast.
- 0:43Today we're going to be talking all about like kind of our
- 0:45favorite food trends, what's in our snack bag, the things that
- 0:47we always have on hand as dietitians.
- 0:50We're going to be sharing that with all of you, some fun stuff
- 0:52that we just make sure we have and why we have those things.
- 0:54Before we get into that though, Riley, update me on your week.
- 0:57What's your high and low? This week has been interesting.
- 1:00I always like starting off with a high because I like to start
- 1:03off with the podcast on a positive note.
- 1:05There's been some things happening lately that I just
- 1:07kind of have to share on here. So I am going to start off with
- 1:09my low for this week. Recently I posted about having
- 1:13Pop Tarts as a pre run fuel option.
- 1:17As a busy mom, as somebody who is running a business together
- 1:20we run RBSN. Things have been very hectic
- 1:23lately. A big thing that I've been doing
- 1:25right now is waking up really early to get my workout in or to
- 1:27get my run in. Recently I posted about how I
- 1:30wake up early and I need something energy dense
- 1:33containing lots of carbohydrates before my early run.
- 1:36We all know that carbohydrates are a fastest digesting fuel.
- 1:38Really focusing on those before run can help with energy levels.
- 1:42Also, it's gonna help with digestion.
- 1:43I posted that one of the options that I had been fueling with
- 1:47because you recommended it. We had a lot of dietitians
- 1:50recently on the podcast who are in the endurance space and
- 1:52popped out a huge in the endurance space.
- 1:54I posted that I was fueling with some and I got attacked and it
- 1:59just was so coincidental because we talked about this on last
- 2:01week's episode about all these people saying negative things
- 2:05about our food choices. Usually I don't let it affect
- 2:07me, but the nasty DMS that I got, these really affected me.
- 2:12I blocked like 10 people. People were so mean and so rude.
- 2:16And I understand it's a little bit of a different situation
- 2:19than like sitting at the dinner table and people commenting
- 2:21because yes, like we are providing education.
- 2:24I'm making that decision to post it publicly.
- 2:27So yeah, I can accept that I'm going to get critiqued and
- 2:29things like that. I was just shocked.
- 2:32And we talked about this last week on our episode, but we're
- 2:35in such a positive space at RVSN when it comes to food with our
- 2:39clients and on that side of Instagram where everything is,
- 2:41you know, positive nutrition, food forward.
- 2:44I think I was just taken aback with a negative comments and
- 2:47people just being so rude in my DMS about pop Tarts.
- 2:51First of all, I think it's incredibly sad that people are
- 2:54willing to be so mean over something that like is your
- 2:56personal choice. Like at the end of the day, if
- 2:58someone sees your recommendation online to try fueling with Pop
- 3:02Tarts and it's something they feel comfortable with or it's
- 3:04something that fits in their fueling plan, that's great.
- 3:06But if Pop Tarts are something that you avoid for any reason,
- 3:09whether that be like you don't like them flavor wise or you
- 3:12find their ingredients to be something that's not
- 3:15satisfactory, whatever your reason is for not having pop
- 3:17Tarts, that's your personal choice.
- 3:19And like, you don't need to come at someone online that you don't
- 3:21know and tear them down because they're fueling their body
- 3:24properly. Like we always say, like fed is
- 3:26best. We would prefer that you fuel
- 3:28with something versus nothing. Like of course, like that's a
- 3:30good thing to have in your pantry to fuel with before an
- 3:34early morning run. Like, my goodness, you probably,
- 3:36as a busy mom, as a business owner, don't want to pull out a
- 3:38toaster and make waffles before you go on a run because we need
- 3:41something fast, easy and convenient.
- 3:43And Pop Tarts do just that. So online is hard.
- 3:45Social media is hard. Yeah, it just like really rubbed
- 3:48me the wrong way. And as somebody who has a
- 3:50positive relationship with food, a positive relationship with my
- 3:52body, it still affects me. So I can't imagine if you're
- 3:55somebody right now who's like navigating the holidays,
- 3:57especially with your relationship with food, and then
- 4:00people are just saying these like, negative comments to you.
- 4:03And I even shared to that, like something I've been struggling
- 4:05with recently is like, I've been struggling with my appetite.
- 4:08Like a pop tart was something that I could easily consume that
- 4:11was energy dense and that's why I was choosing it in that
- 4:14situation. Like I'm not recommending eating
- 4:16pop Tarts at every single meal and I'm not recommending eating
- 4:18pop tarts every single day. And we run into this too a lot
- 4:21of the times when we talk about like Gatorade and other
- 4:23processed products. If you really look at what RVSN
- 4:26stands for is we're a whole food based company, right?
- 4:30Like we are talking about performance plates.
- 4:32We're talking about all six essential nutrients.
- 4:34We also talk about the why when it comes to food S, We're not
- 4:37saying only eat these certain products, but we're trying to
- 4:40come up with a holistic approach that's very individualized for
- 4:44every single athlete and that's going to look different for
- 4:46everybody. Yeah, exactly.
- 4:48And I think the big thing to take away too is that like
- 4:50you're not having Pop Tarts as your breakfast every single
- 4:53morning to fuel your day. Like you're choosing Pop Tarts
- 4:55to have energy so that way you can go on your longer run or
- 4:58something like that. And like you might have a box of
- 5:00Pop Tarts that stays in your pantry for several weeks because
- 5:03you're not consuming them every single day.
- 5:05And I think that's the part that people miss out on.
- 5:07It has a purpose. It's at a certain time and for
- 5:10specific thing, and I'm not recommending that people come in
- 5:12and do this every single day, every single meal, Yeah.
- 5:15And it just, it was like you didn't even come in and ask why
- 5:17I was recommending it and even wrote and explained why I had
- 5:21chose that option. It was just like attack, attack,
- 5:23attack, attack, attack. When it's like, why don't you
- 5:25like ask me? Like I am a dietitian.
- 5:27It was just funny. People were like, how dare you
- 5:29call yourself a nutritionist and you're recommending pop Tarts.
- 5:32It's like, first of all, we don't call ourselves a
- 5:33nutritionist because that's not regulated.
- 5:35And second of all, we don't just call ourselves that.
- 5:38We are trained like I have degrees, like I block people.
- 5:43I'm like, I don't have this energy.
- 5:45But I just thought it was just something I wanted to share
- 5:47because if you are listening right now and you are somebody
- 5:49who is navigating negative comments from others, you're not
- 5:53alone. Like we're dietitians and we're
- 5:55we're still getting that. Yeah, I think that, you know,
- 5:57we're going on a huge tangent here about like energy dense
- 6:00foods and stuff like that. But especially with the
- 6:02populations that we sometimes work with, like getting in
- 6:04energy and sometimes choosing energy dense foods that are
- 6:06preferences because that tastes good.
- 6:08And all those things are so important is especially if
- 6:10you're working on healing your relationship with food and just
- 6:12getting in enough energy to support performance and support
- 6:15sport. It just all goes back to like
- 6:16the why behind what we're choosing.
- 6:18If you are someone who is experiencing like comments
- 6:21around food, especially during this holiday season and as we
- 6:23enter the new year, like Riley and I are here to, you know,
- 6:25support you in whatever you're choosing to fuel your body with.
- 6:28Like we're proud of you for doing that.
- 6:29So kudos to you. Kudos to you for using, you
- 6:31know, pop Tarts. Actually one of our athletes in
- 6:33RBSN actually reached out and was like, Oh my gosh, this is a
- 6:36great option for me post workout.
- 6:38I'm struggling, you know, getting in that three door and
- 6:40ratio of carbs of protein that my body needs after training.
- 6:43And this is going to help me meet that goal because she's a
- 6:47busy pro athlete and she's training and then she has to go
- 6:50to her job. So she's fueling in the car and
- 6:51it's been challenging for her to piece different things together
- 6:55to get that carbohydrate amount that she needs.
- 6:57But she's like, well, this is an option that maybe I can
- 6:59incorporate a couple times per week.
- 7:01And I was like, OK, this is This is why we do what we do.
- 7:03So the real ones know our RBS and girlies know what's up.
- 7:06Absolutely. OK, Well, now that we spent a
- 7:08really long time on your low, we didn't mean to start this off on
- 7:11such like a sad note. Like tell me about your high.
- 7:14It's a good part of your week. What's going on?
- 7:16On a more positive note, my high has to do with Charlie Girl.
- 7:19She has added two more words to her vocabulary.
- 7:22I'm ready. What have we added?
- 7:24If you haven't listened to the episode already, Charlie's first
- 7:27word is uh oh, which I love. So what have we added to the
- 7:30vocab? So we've added hi.
- 7:32She'll go around and be like, hi.
- 7:35I love that. I don't know if you like know
- 7:38what you're saying yet, but you are so cute.
- 7:40So she says hi. Charlie is also officially for
- 7:43the girlies because she has said mom, mom very excited.
- 7:46I was like, you're for the girlies, like let's go.
- 7:49You're going to have to catch her saying hi on video and send
- 7:52it. Yeah, I know.
- 7:53What about you, Jenna? How's your week going?
- 7:54I'm actually going to share a high and low that happened a
- 7:56little while ago. I feel like I have to share it
- 7:58on the podcast. It's kind of a high and low
- 8:00story, like it often is. But one of my favorite bands was
- 8:05coming to play in Arizona. They were coming to play at a
- 8:08venue that my husband and I have been to before.
- 8:10It's standing room only except for a small balcony that, like,
- 8:13they call, like, the mezzanine level that goes around the,
- 8:15like, perimeter of the venue. But like, not a lot of people
- 8:18get to go up there. And I was like, how cool would
- 8:20it be if we got tickets to, like, sit on the mezzanine level
- 8:23instead of having to stand the whole time?
- 8:25My husband, Nolan, was like, I'm gonna e-mail the venue.
- 8:27I'm going to see if they have any tickets left.
- 8:29And I was like, great. A couple days later, I was like,
- 8:31hey, we should probably buy the tickets.
- 8:32Like, have we gotten these? Have you heard from the venue?
- 8:35And he's like, I haven't heard from them.
- 8:36And I was like, that's OK, OK, like, let's just buy the regular
- 8:37tickets. So we did.
- 8:39We went downtown Phoenix to go see this band play.
- 8:43And as we're like, walking up to the venue, I see the line to get
- 8:45in. And I'm like, OK, we've been
- 8:46here before. I know I need to stand in this
- 8:48line to like, you know, do the whole thing and get in.
- 8:50And my husband starts walking up to, like, a different line.
- 8:52And I was like, OK, get in line. What are you doing?
- 8:55And I was like, OK, I'm just going to hang back because,
- 8:57like, as soon as he walks up and tries to get in through the
- 8:58shorter line, the person's going to be like, you actually have to
- 9:00wait in this line. So I was like, I'm not walking
- 9:02up with you. And he walks up and he goes
- 9:04tickets for Nolan Fisher. And they were like, oh, yeah.
- 9:06And I was, wait, what? And my husband surprised me with
- 9:08tickets to actually sit on the mezzanine.
- 9:10He told me that he hadn't heard from the venue, which was true
- 9:12at the time, but he heard from them the next day.
- 9:14So he surprised me. It was so nice.
- 9:16And I was so like, surprised by it.
- 9:19Usually, if Nolan has something that he's trying to surprise me
- 9:21with, he doesn't do the best job of keeping it a secret.
- 9:23So I usually find out about the surprise before it happens.
- 9:26So it was really nice to actually be surprised and
- 9:28actually get to see this band. It was just really, really nice
- 9:31to do it that way. And I was so glad that we got to
- 9:33do that together. My low is that it is the band's
- 9:36farewell well tour, so I was really sad about that, but at
- 9:39least I knew before the concert that it was the farewell tour,
- 9:42so I wasn't surprised when they said something about it during
- 9:44the show. So that's my high in love story.
- 9:46Aw, great. Job Nolan, I'm so impressed that
- 9:49he was able to keep a secret from you.
- 9:51I feel like he just gets so excited about certain things and
- 9:53he can't keep it a secret. Yes, that is exactly what
- 9:56happens. It's so sweet.
- 9:58Yeah, I was really surprised that he kept it a secret and it
- 10:00was so much fun. So we had a great time and I was
- 10:02happy. Yeah, I'm glad that y'all had a
- 10:04good time and you also got to sit down.
- 10:06The best, the part about this whole situation was that I had a
- 10:09place to put like drinks, like I could put my water down, which
- 10:13when you're standing in the venue, if you need a water,
- 10:15you're having a drink of any kind, you have to hold it the
- 10:17full time. Do you know what this means?
- 10:19I'm old. Yes, you are officially old.
- 10:24Welcome. To the club.
- 10:26I'm leaving. We're ending the podcast now.
- 10:29Riley just told me that I'm old, and she's right.
- 10:33Did you wear a jacket to wait in line?
- 10:35I feel like that is also the third step of being old.
- 10:38I also feel like it's the third step in becoming an Arizonan
- 10:41because yes, also, when you stand up at the mezzanine level,
- 10:45you're right at the air conditioner.
- 10:47So yes, I'm old and I wore a jacket old.
- 10:50Not just in line. I'm not crying, OK?
- 10:54That is funny. Life doesn't eat more carbs
- 10:57podcast. You didn't know you were going
- 10:59to get those today, but here we are.
- 11:00We do have some training updates for y'all.
- 11:03If you have been listening before, you know that every week
- 11:06we give an update of where we're at in our training for our half
- 11:08marathons coming up. I'm running one in just a couple
- 11:10weeks in January and Riley is running one in March.
- 11:13So Riley, where are you at in your training this week?
- 11:15What does it look like? What are you looking forward to?
- 11:16My 12 week block actually begins this week, which I am really
- 11:20excited for. In the past I've always just
- 11:23tried to almost like finish my half marathons where I'm just
- 11:26trying to get them done. I'm really going to just build
- 11:29up that mileage. But because I'm cutting off of
- 11:31my race in November, I already kind of have like a good mileage
- 11:34foundation right now. So really focused on speed,
- 11:36which I love and I hate. Definitely reminds me of like
- 11:39being in college athletics a little bit, but that's just kind
- 11:41of my personality. So I'm doing a lot more speed
- 11:44work. I'm doing 2 interval runs this
- 11:46week. I'll do a fart lick and then I
- 11:47will do my longer run on Saturday or Sunday.
- 11:50So I'm only looking at about, you know, less than 15 miles,
- 11:53but a lot more speed work this week.
- 11:55That's interesting. I'm focusing a little bit more
- 11:57on speed work this week too, because this is a holiday week,
- 12:00so I anticipated that there might be a little bit shorter
- 12:03time for me to go out and do longer runs.
- 12:05So I'm am focusing on a little bit more speed this week and
- 12:08I'll probably hover around that 20 mile mark this week in total
- 12:11for my runs since I just have a little bit less time than I
- 12:14usually do. Still enough time to get in a
- 12:16couple good speed workouts. When are you going to be like
- 12:19peaking with your mileage? That's a great question.
- 12:21I'll be thoroughly honest because this racism a little bit
- 12:23more party. I haven't done as diligent of a
- 12:26job like planning things out for high mileage and things like
- 12:30that. But like every week I've kind of
- 12:31hovered around like 20 to 25 miles.
- 12:34And I don't know that I'll run much more than that because it's
- 12:37a half marathon distance and I don't really need to train more
- 12:39than that. As far as like my endurance
- 12:41goes, SI probably would consider like my peak week being
- 12:44somewhere if I hit above 25 and it's just really a little bit
- 12:47more time dependent. We have some kind of unexpected
- 12:49things that are happening in our life in between now and when we
- 12:51run the race. So I'm just holding a little bit
- 12:53of like great for myself if I don't like reach those miles
- 12:56that I like typically would leading into a race.
- 12:59So I. Love that.
- 13:00I also love that it's party pace.
- 13:01My race in March will also be party pace, which is definitely
- 13:04a new concept for me because I'm always trying to PR and that
- 13:08seems very silly, but it's going to be fun to just kind of do a
- 13:11race to just have fun and run. It's good to have those kind of
- 13:14races. I love that you're doing this
- 13:15one party pace. I'm not so much focused on your
- 13:17time. I'm getting old, I guess too.
- 13:19I'm growing up. We'll say I'm maturing.
- 13:21Today we're going to be talking a little bit about as
- 13:23dietitians, what's in our our snack bag.
- 13:25So what are the things that we always have on hand?
- 13:28What are the things that we love to keep in our pantry?
- 13:30What are the things that we're going to the store when we run
- 13:32out of those things because we almost always have to have them
- 13:36in our pantry? What's the first thing you want
- 13:37to tell everybody about? I want to talk about cheese
- 13:39sticks. Cheese sticks are are, I think
- 13:42one of the most underrated ways to get in protein.
- 13:46And I know that we are a protein obsessed society right now, but
- 13:49a lot of the times I think people are missing out on
- 13:51protein and snacks, especially on snacks that are on the go.
- 13:54So something that I feel like is always in my pantry or I guess
- 13:57in my fridge as a dietitian is going to be cheese sticks.
- 14:00There's such a great option for, you know, getting in 15 grams of
- 14:03protein. You can have two and that's
- 14:05going to give you about 14 or 15 grams of protein, which I feel
- 14:08like is perfect for a snack. I love cheese sticks.
- 14:10Do you eat your cheese where you like bite them or do you peel
- 14:13them? Initially I'm going to say peel,
- 14:17but lately I have been sometimes biting them or sometimes I'll
- 14:20chop them and put them on crackers.
- 14:22OK, I was going to say, if you bite them, that's savage because
- 14:24I have to peel. It doesn't matter.
- 14:27I used to have to peel it, but now chasing Charlie all the
- 14:30time, I'm just like, eat the cheese stick.
- 14:32Charlie's also team cheese stick.
- 14:34She doesn't know how to pull it, obviously, so she just kind of
- 14:36like eats it so. That makes sense.
- 14:38I love a cheese stick, but I too have a snack on my list that is
- 14:41a protein snack because a lot of the times, like we're having
- 14:44busy days, I need quick snacks that are going to hold me over
- 14:47and keep me feeling full and satisfied until I have a break
- 14:50in my day or something like that.
- 14:51So I have chop sticks on my list as things that I like to have in
- 14:55my pantry, like to have in my snack bag.
- 14:56One, because they are super convenient, and two, because
- 14:59they're easy to pair with something and have quickly on
- 15:01the go and you get a good amount of protein with a chopstick.
- 15:04So that is my protein snack. That's kind of similar to cheese
- 15:07sticks in that sense that it's an easy one and a little bit of
- 15:09protein. I also don't understand why beef
- 15:11jerky tastes so much better in a stick versus a strip.
- 15:14I cannot really eat like the pull apart beef jerky.
- 15:17I don't know why I struggle with it, but give me a chomp stick.
- 15:20Give me a stick of beef jerky I'm here for.
- 15:22It do you ever struggle with the texture of like the other type
- 15:26of beef jerky? Because I've that sometimes
- 15:28like, I like the texture and other times I'm like something
- 15:31is off with the texture here. But like a chopstick feels very
- 15:33like uniform, like every single one.
- 15:35You know, it's going to be the same.
- 15:36Whereas like beef jerky, sometimes you get it and it's
- 15:38like really dry and sometimes like it's a lot chewier.
- 15:41And I don't know if maybe that's like.
- 15:42A Yeah, I think it is the texture.
- 15:43I think it's that chewy component because sometimes I'm
- 15:46into a beef jerky, but I can only do it for so long.
- 15:48I think I get. I get sick of it and it has to
- 15:50be like a good flavor to like I'm not going to go out and buy
- 15:52like a giant bag of it from Costco because like flavor
- 15:55fatigue on it for sure. Definitely on the top of of
- 15:57Costco. Anything that you're grabbing
- 15:59from Costco for your top snacks I guess of 2025?
- 16:03Yes, I love a convenient pre run snack, like a fruit snack or
- 16:06something like that. So I usually have those in the
- 16:08house. I want a little bit specific on
- 16:10this and I put yogi's on my list and they're essentially like a
- 16:14fruit snack that has a yogurt covering on them.
- 16:16And I buy the big bag from Costco.
- 16:17I think it's like strawberry or Raspberry or something like
- 16:19that. I think you were the one who
- 16:21actually told me about them. They're so good.
- 16:24They're so convenient and I love to have those on hand to just
- 16:27grabbed before a workout or a run or something like that.
- 16:29It works really well for me and I love the way they taste.
- 16:32We are also team Yogi's here. It's a great way to get in some
- 16:35color and a little bit of fiber too.
- 16:38And a snack. Rob's will bring a couple packs
- 16:40with him to work. But yes, they're so good too.
- 16:43And they're just like a little different.
- 16:45I feel like, you know, with fruit snacks, they all kind of
- 16:47taste the same, but yogi's are definitely like a little bit of
- 16:49a different experience. Yes, that's why I picked them,
- 16:52because they're a little different and I need something
- 16:54different. Yeah, I like that.
- 16:55I have fruit snacks on my list. That's like my go to re run fuel
- 16:59if I'm running or training for like 1/2, I feel like I utilize
- 17:03fruit snacks there. One of my goals for 2025 is to
- 17:06run a marathon. I'm not sure that I can do a
- 17:08fruit snack during a marathon or we're gonna have to see how that
- 17:11goes, but it definitely love a fruit snack for at least fueling
- 17:14for some of those shorter distances.
- 17:15Do you have a preferred type or flavor a fruit snack that you
- 17:19want to have with you when you run?
- 17:20I usually go with Welches or I'll do like a totally blinking
- 17:23on it right now. The name, they're organic gummy
- 17:26bears. Oh, is it?
- 17:27The Black Forest ones, I think that's what they're.
- 17:29Called, yes, those are a little bit better option compared to a
- 17:32Mots because the Mots are for me are a little bit harder to chew
- 17:35because they're a little bit more dense and that can be
- 17:37really hard when you're running to chew.
- 17:39But I feel like a watch's fruit snack or like a gummy bear is a
- 17:43great option for me because they're a little bit easier to
- 17:46consume. And you always have to be
- 17:47thinking about like, how is it going to go down when you're
- 17:50running and trying to fuel? And I also like like a fruit
- 17:53snack because what I'll do is I'll empty a couple bags into
- 17:55like a Ziploc bag and then I can fuel with a little bit at a
- 17:58time. My GI is just so sensitive.
- 18:00And I know I can train my gut. I'm doing that.
- 18:03I know I got you. But everybody is a little bit
- 18:05individualized with their nutrition.
- 18:07And gels can be kind of hard for me if I have to consume them all
- 18:10at one time. So with a fruit snack, it's nice
- 18:12because I can consume them at a little bit throughout their race
- 18:14versus like having to do 25 to 45 grams of carbohydrates all at
- 18:18one time. Yeah, I hear that.
- 18:20We just have to find the right things that work for you when it
- 18:22comes to race day and running nutrition because everybody is
- 18:25going to be really individualized as far as what
- 18:27works for them, not only from the standpoint of like what's
- 18:29easy to take, but also like what works well for your system.
- 18:32So that makes sense when it comes to like pre run stuff.
- 18:34I know we just talked about like your snacks for pre run stuff,
- 18:36but is there anything else that you would want to have in your
- 18:39pantry for like pre run? One of my favorite new products
- 18:42of 2024 has been 2 before I have always struggled a little bit
- 18:47with like GI issues. I've shared on this podcast on
- 18:50on Instagram about fueling around training can be hard for
- 18:53me sometimes. And a lot of the other pre
- 18:55workout powders and a lot of other pre workout products seem
- 18:58to be a little harsh on my GI. But I really love the taste of
- 19:02two before, the effect of two before and then it also doesn't
- 19:05upset my stomach. So I've really enjoyed 2 before.
- 19:07I know that you've utilized that as well.
- 19:09OK, two before was on my list too because I really do love it.
- 19:12Also add to it because I was kind of on like the powdered
- 19:15drink type of thing. Liquid 4 because I want to have
- 19:18something before and after that helps me consume liquid.
- 19:20And sometimes it's just a little bit harder for me to just get
- 19:22down plain water before and after a run.
- 19:24So it's a great way to help with like that just hydration
- 19:27standpoint for me, just so that way I like, I'm making sure that
- 19:30I am drinking something. So I love to before I love
- 19:32something to help me like hydrate and refuel after a run.
- 19:35So you know, 2 before, before and then something afterwards.
- 19:38And I would go with Liquid Ivy right now.
- 19:39I'm just liking the flavors that they have at my Costco.
- 19:42What flavors are you utilizing right now?
- 19:43They. Have the Mingo one and that one
- 19:45I think is so yummy. Have you mixed your two before
- 19:48with your liquid Ivy? I haven't.
- 19:50I'm going to try that now. Have you done?
- 19:52It I have, you have to get the right flavor pretty good and if
- 19:55you're struggling like getting sick different liquids down
- 19:58before I run, you can kind of combine them.
- 20:00I love that idea. OK, what else is on your list?
- 20:03Cherry juice is something that I'm always going to make sure
- 20:05that I have in my pantry. It is one of like my favorite
- 20:08products, and I also feel like it's one of the products that
- 20:11athletes absolutely love. I remember when I worked at
- 20:14UCLA, like if I arrived to a game or I was on a trip and
- 20:17there was number cherry juice, like I was in trouble.
- 20:19Like I was going to the nearest grocery store with three duffel
- 20:22bags because we were getting the cherry.
- 20:24Juice, you got to have what the people want.
- 20:25Exactly what about you other like liquids or anything like
- 20:28that on your list? I actually do have one more on
- 20:31my list. I'm a really picky when it comes
- 20:33to sparkling water. I don't like the bubbles to be
- 20:35like too big. I don't like it to have like too
- 20:37much flavor or feel like overpowering.
- 20:39So I've become very like picky, almost like a bubbly water snob.
- 20:42But I love the mountain spring sparkling water.
- 20:46I think it is the best one. I think it is far superior to
- 20:49anything that comes in a can. I know it's a little bit
- 20:51pricier, but to me it's so worth it.
- 20:53It's not something that I'm having every single day because
- 20:55I think my husband would be like, why are you going through
- 20:57a bottle of this a day? That's a little absurd, but I
- 20:59just love the way it tastes. They have like AI think it's
- 21:01Peach flavor and that one has so far been my favorite as far as
- 21:05the different flavors that they have.
- 21:06But that is one that like I just like to have for a different
- 21:09liquid that I can consume during the day.
- 21:11Like I just talked about, like sometimes water, like plain
- 21:13water is just hard for me. So I like to mix it up with a
- 21:15sparkling water. It's a great way again to like
- 21:17mix up hydration to stay hydrated.
- 21:20And that's going to be what I'm reaching for instead of kind of
- 21:23the other options out there on the market.
- 21:24I also love sparkling water and I I just thought of something
- 21:28that could be really fun. OK, hit me with it have.
- 21:31You seen the Diet Coke challenge on the Internet?
- 21:33Yes, I have. If you're listening and you
- 21:35haven't seen this kind of trend going on right now on social,
- 21:39what people are doing is they're lining up different versions of
- 21:42Diet Coke. So Diet Coke from the fountain,
- 21:44Diet Coke from the can, from the bottle.
- 21:46And what they're doing is they're putting it behind like a
- 21:48box, cutting holes in the box and putting straws and each of
- 21:51the Diet Cokes, and people are going through and trying to
- 21:54guess which medium the Diet Coke is coming out of.
- 21:58And I think we should do that with sparkling water.
- 21:59I would love to do that. I would love to see if it's all
- 22:02in my head that that one is actually better.
- 22:05That one is so good though. But I'm I'm the same way and I'm
- 22:07wondering like, am I just being a snob or like is there actually
- 22:11differences in like the bubble size, the amount of bubbles, the
- 22:15flavors? That could be something that's
- 22:17super fun that we do. Oh, we should definitely do
- 22:19that. Let us know in the comments what
- 22:21other types or flavors or brands of sparkling water we should
- 22:25line up against Mountain Springs.
- 22:26Anything else on your list for what's in your snack bag for
- 22:292025? So I have a fun food that I want
- 22:32to include for 2025 and this is actually a product that I
- 22:37recently found. It is called Fruit Riot, which I
- 22:39believe it is all over TikTok. And again, if you are old like
- 22:43me, seems to be the theme of the episode today.
- 22:45You might have not known about Fruit Riot until recently.
- 22:49Jenna is younger than me obviously, and she knew about
- 22:52Fruit Riot like a year and a half ago, but I had not seen it
- 22:55at the grocery store. I had not been familiar with the
- 22:57product yet. My recent grocery store just got
- 23:00Fruit Riot and I have to grab a bag because Jenna's
- 23:02recommendations are always amazing.
- 23:04And now I'm addicted to Fruit Riot, and that is something
- 23:07that's definitely going to be a staple in my household going
- 23:10into 2025. I feel like half the time I go
- 23:12to the grocery store it's sold out because it's so popular
- 23:15right now and I love it and it's so tasty.
- 23:18I like the grapes the best. What have you found that you
- 23:21prefer? I think they have grape, mango
- 23:22and pineapple right? They do, but they have two
- 23:24flavors of grape. That's right, because we were
- 23:26talking about this. Yes.
- 23:27OK. What has been your like top
- 23:29favorite so far? The grapes are so easy to like
- 23:32pop into your mouth like I was joking with you, but I feel like
- 23:35they're cracked because they're just so easy.
- 23:37The first one I ever tried was mango, so I feel like I'm a
- 23:39little partial because it's the first time I had something.
- 23:42The grapes that are flavored though are so good.
- 23:45They're like lemon mixed Berry. And there's another one I'm
- 23:48forgetting. Those are different than like
- 23:49the regular grapes. I feel like I'm tied between
- 23:52mango and like the different flavors of grapes.
- 23:54OK, I have yet to find the flavored grapes, so I'm curious
- 23:58if I would like those better than the like original grape
- 24:00flavor because that one is definitely my favorite right
- 24:03now. But I also like love frozen
- 24:04grapes. Like that's been a thing that
- 24:05like I've always liked. So it kind of makes sense for me
- 24:08that that's my favorite one. But they're all good.
- 24:09Like they're not like there's not an option as bad.
- 24:11Like if they have a bag of it at the store, even if it's
- 24:13pineapple and mango, I'm still grabbing that.
- 24:15Like I'm still OK with that. It's not to the point where I'm
- 24:17like, Oh no, I'm not going to buy that because I'd prefer to
- 24:19have the grape. And sometimes they, you know,
- 24:21only have one bag left and guess what?
- 24:22It's coming home with me. I've been thinking about trying
- 24:25to make my own. What am I applying?
- 24:27Said that a lot of people are trying to do that on TikTok and
- 24:30it seems to be like a massive fail, but I'm trying to think
- 24:33about if I could somehow replicate it at home.
- 24:35OK, well if you do you have to let me know because I always get
- 24:38sad when they're sold out at my store.
- 24:39So now we have things to do from this episode where we have to
- 24:41replicate Fruit Riot and we also have to do our sparkling water
- 24:44challenge. Just a few things.
- 24:46Any other foods that you are putting in your snack bag for
- 24:492025? Yes, I'm going to include
- 24:52granola and yogurt. I think I'm just, I'm going
- 24:54through like a kick of like granola and yogurt.
- 24:56I have a granola recipe that my mom makes it, my sister makes
- 25:00it. So I always keep it frozen on
- 25:02hand. Like after I make the granola, I
- 25:03stick it in my freezer so that way I just have it and if I run
- 25:07out of it, I just make more of it.
- 25:08So it's something that I always have.
- 25:09And then recently I've really been loving pairing it with the
- 25:12lactose free Faye Greek yogurt. I just think it tastes better.
- 25:16I don't know why, but I think it tastes better.
- 25:18It's probably completely in my head.
- 25:20When I go back to my parents house, they always have lactose
- 25:23free or dairy free options. Like, that's when I first, like,
- 25:25tried it was being back at home. I just liked it so much that I
- 25:28was like, I'm gonna buy this one.
- 25:30It's essentially the same as regular fire yogurt.
- 25:32It just has the lactase enzyme already added to it.
- 25:35But to me, it just tastes a little bit better.
- 25:37And I've been loving that. So that in granola.
- 25:40And if you're curious about a good granola recipe, I have it
- 25:42on my Instagram. That's the one that I always
- 25:43have in my freezer that I make myself.
- 25:46Yeah. I saw the lactose free on your
- 25:48story and I was wondering about it.
- 25:50It's not sold everywhere. Sometimes it's harder to find.
- 25:52My mom can find it at Walmart. I've only been able to find it
- 25:55at like Whole Foods, Sprouts and Target.
- 25:56So I think think it's just very state to state dependent on what
- 25:59stores are carrying it and what stores aren't.
- 26:01I've only been able to find it in the bigger container versus
- 26:03the smaller ones. As we go into 2025, we're really
- 26:05excited for all the things that are happening at RBSN.
