- 1:23Speaker 1: At some point we'll post it on socials as well
- 1:26Speaker 1: for you to take a look. Okay, let's get right
- 1:29Speaker 1: to Ken Big News Today special segment at the top.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Here the Inside Scoop with Ken Rosenthal breaking news this morning,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Tony Clark is going to step down as leader of
- 1:44Speaker 1: the Players Union. Ken, you broke the story along with
- 1:47Speaker 1: Evandralic and Andy McCullough in the Athletic. I encourage everyone
- 1:50Speaker 1: to keep checking out that story because it's updating. But
- 1:52Speaker 1: what can you tell us about what you initially learned
- 1:54Speaker 1: and how it's updated.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Okay, so you asked me what we first learned, and
- 1:58Speaker 4: we first learned only that Tony Clark was expected to
- 2:02Speaker 4: resign as head of the MLBPA. We still don't know
- 2:06Speaker 4: the exact particulars, but we just updated our story, and
- 2:10Speaker 4: what we said in the story is that Clark was
- 2:13Speaker 4: facing growing concerns from players that the Executive Cup Subcommittee
- 2:18Speaker 4: that's composed of eight players, eight prominent players who kind
- 2:22Speaker 4: of are the big time body in the union. That
- 2:26Speaker 4: executive subcommittee had been in contact with federal officials from
- 2:30Speaker 4: the FBI the Department of Justice, and evidently something happened
- 2:35Speaker 4: in the last twenty four hours or so where things changed.
- 2:39Speaker 4: The union was expected to have a meeting and scheduled
- 2:41Speaker 4: to have a meeting with the Cleveland Guardians today. That
- 2:44Speaker 4: meeting suddenly was canceled last night. That is what got
- 2:48Speaker 4: everyone's radar up. And of course this is developing, as
- 2:52Speaker 4: you said, Scott, so we don't know all the particulars yet.
- 2:54Speaker 4: We don't know what this means regarding the FBI investigation
- 2:59Speaker 4: into Clark and the union that was regarding licensing money
- 3:02Speaker 4: and all of that. I'm sure we will know more shortly,
- 3:05Speaker 4: and then of course we will talk about what this
- 3:08Speaker 4: might mean for the Collective Bargating Agreement going forward. The
- 3:12Speaker 4: CBA expires December first. We were all anticipating a lockout.
- 3:16Speaker 4: That part doesn't change.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Ken For the people that don't know, can you explain
- 3:20Speaker 2: a little bit what you mean, just just to give
- 3:23Speaker 2: people a little bit of background into the investigation that
- 3:26Speaker 2: you talked about and stuff like that, just so people
- 3:28Speaker 2: have an idea of kind of what this is, what
- 3:31Speaker 2: started Maybe all this, We honestly don't know but what
- 3:34Speaker 2: that means.
- 3:36Speaker 4: This investigation, I don't exactly remember when it started aj
- 3:40Speaker 4: but it was into both the MLBPA and the NFLPA,
- 3:45Speaker 4: and there were allegations of some financial impropriety regarding licensing money.
- 3:52Speaker 4: And I don't know exactly the particulars myself. I haven't
- 3:54Speaker 4: been up on that, but that is what was going
- 3:58Speaker 4: on now. For the longest time, what people with the
- 4:02Speaker 4: union were saying and agents were saying, is that they
- 4:04Speaker 4: didn't expect this to lead anywhere, that Clark hadn't done
- 4:08Speaker 4: anything wrong, etc. But obviously something happened here. And again
- 4:14Speaker 4: we don't know aj the exact particulars, but for players
- 4:18Speaker 4: to go to Clark or at least raise these concerns
- 4:21Speaker 4: with Clark, at some point he just decided I'm not
- 4:26Speaker 4: going to be a distraction here. I'm going to do
- 4:28Speaker 4: what is best for the union and step down. At
- 4:30Speaker 4: some point came in the last twenty four hours or so.
- 4:34Speaker 4: So again I don't want to get too far into
- 4:36Speaker 4: speculating what happened, but at the same time, clearly something
- 4:41Speaker 4: went amiss here. Now I don't know how much it
- 4:44Speaker 4: regards or how much it stems from the investigation. I
- 4:47Speaker 4: don't know if it's something else. These are things that
- 4:50Speaker 4: we will learn in the coming hours and days.
- 4:53Speaker 5: What's next for the Players' Association. What's what's the next
- 4:57Speaker 5: step in the sense of you know, this is new news.
- 5:00Speaker 5: So obviously they haven't made a change yet, but what
- 5:03Speaker 5: is their next process to get a new executive director
- 5:07Speaker 5: or to just continue without Tony.
- 5:10Speaker 4: They're meeting today and obviously they need a new executive director.
- 5:14Speaker 4: And when I say they are meeting, the union's board,
- 5:16Speaker 4: the executive subcommittee is meeting. My expectation is that they
- 5:20Speaker 4: will simply name the lead negotiator, negotiator, Bruce Meyer, the
- 5:25Speaker 4: new executive director of the union. It's the easiest thing
- 5:28Speaker 4: for them to do in this critical year of bargaining.
- 5:31Speaker 4: It is probably the obvious course. Now I don't know
- 5:34Speaker 4: that for a fact. It's speculating, but at the same time,
- 5:38Speaker 4: it would seem that's the way to go here. Now
- 5:41Speaker 4: they do have to name someone permanently. You can see
- 5:44Speaker 4: they're going to have an interim leader and that person
- 5:47Speaker 4: will be chosen and then at some point they'll choose
- 5:49Speaker 4: a permanent leader. And as Brent Suter told Sam Blum
- 5:53Speaker 4: of the athletic. We're not going to get a search going.
- 5:56Speaker 6: There's bargaining here.
- 5:57Speaker 4: We're going to have it an interim and keep everything
- 5:58Speaker 4: as stable as we can this year.
- 6:00Speaker 3: And that is why I'm saying Bruce Meyer is.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Likely to be the guy at least until this agreement
- 6:06Speaker 4: is done or not done. He's going to be the guy,
- 6:09Speaker 4: it would seem, and then they'll have to figure some
- 6:12Speaker 4: things out. I'm sure they'll have to figure some other
- 6:14Speaker 4: things out too as we go along here. This is
- 6:17Speaker 4: an incredibly jarring development for the union. And I know
- 6:22Speaker 4: fans are asking, and I'm getting asked this by a lot,
- 6:24Speaker 4: even by people in the game. Will this help or
- 6:27Speaker 4: hurt the chances of a workstopage not occurring? And to me,
- 6:33Speaker 4: it's not going to necessarily help. The owners are going
- 6:37Speaker 4: to do what they're going to do. The players are
- 6:39Speaker 4: going to react how they're going to react. Tony Clark
- 6:41Speaker 4: was not simply the only person in the union saying
- 6:44Speaker 4: we don't want a salary cap. It's the entire union
- 6:47Speaker 4: saying that. So clearly, when you have your leadership in disarray,
- 6:51Speaker 4: that's a problem. No one would deny that. But at
- 6:53Speaker 4: the same time, do I expect the union's positions to
- 6:56Speaker 4: change at all.
- 6:57Speaker 6: No, I do not.
- 7:00Speaker 5: All right, we got the Warby Parkers. I got the Raiders,
- 7:04Speaker 5: but one thing I upgraded to polarized.
- 7:07Speaker 6: Sorry about it.
- 7:09Speaker 7: Yeah, these are good not only for wearing, but also
- 7:12Speaker 7: out in the sun. When I become that baseball coach
- 7:14Speaker 7: I always want to be with my kids. I got
- 7:15Speaker 7: the Hatchers. They're darker, a little bit wider for my face.
- 7:19Speaker 7: They fit perfect, They're comfortable. It's an easy process to
- 7:23Speaker 7: order these really really cool glasses.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I am a diehard Warby Parker fan. I do have
- 7:29Speaker 1: prescription glasses and I wear Warby Parker every day for
- 7:32Speaker 1: many years.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I'm excited about this one. Give it a shot.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Warby Parker gives you quality and better looking prescription I
- 7:38Speaker 1: wear at a fraction of the going price. Our listeners
- 7:40Speaker 1: get fifteen percent off plus free shipping when they buy
- 7:43Speaker 1: two or more pairs of prescription glasses at Warbyparker dot
- 7:46Speaker 1: com slash foul. That's fifteen percent off when you buy
- 7:49Speaker 1: two pairs of glasses at wa Rby Parker dot com
- 7:53Speaker 1: slash foul. After you purchase, they will ask you where
- 7:56Speaker 1: you heard about them. Please support our show and tell
- 7:59Speaker 1: them Foul Territory sent you.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Ken. You kind of said this is a defining moment
- 8:04Speaker 2: or a big moment for the for the Players Association.
- 8:07Speaker 2: My question is is.
- 8:08Speaker 6: Did anyone see this coming?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Because players, I'm in Royles camp and I've talked to
- 8:13Speaker 2: players here. We saw a suitor come out, Marcus Simons
- 8:16Speaker 2: come out, and both have said we had no idea.
- 8:18Speaker 2: We learned on Instagram or we learned from Ken Rosenthal
- 8:22Speaker 2: and Evan Dreulk when they posted this for the Athletic.
- 8:25Speaker 2: So how I mean, just explain the magnitude of how
- 8:28Speaker 2: shocking that this is. That in a negotiating year, the
- 8:33Speaker 2: first day when the Players Association goes around and meets
- 8:35Speaker 2: with the teams, which people at home, they go around
- 8:38Speaker 2: to meet with each team in spring training, they usually
- 8:41Speaker 2: hand out your licensing checks. Now this year they're probably
- 8:43Speaker 2: withholding almost all of it because of the ongoing labor
- 8:47Speaker 2: strife that could air could not happen, just so they
- 8:50Speaker 2: have like a war chest developed. Just explain the magnitude
- 8:53Speaker 2: this because I even went on X and was like,
- 8:54Speaker 2: holy crap, this is a huge deal, especially with the
- 8:58Speaker 2: timing of it. So explain just how large this is.
- 9:02Speaker 4: It's large, and it's especially large, as I said, because
- 9:05Speaker 4: of the timing aga we are months away from where
- 9:09Speaker 4: the negotiations would probably begin in earnest and when the
- 9:15Speaker 4: union loses its leader. Think of it from MLB's perspective,
- 9:19Speaker 4: if Rob Manford suddenly stepped down, it's kind of the
- 9:21Speaker 4: equivalent of that. Now that said, it's going to be
- 9:26Speaker 4: really interesting to see how the union reacts. And I
- 9:29Speaker 4: am sure and Brent Suter said this this morning, and
- 9:31Speaker 4: others are going to say this as well, that they
- 9:33Speaker 4: feel they're going to come out of this stronger, that
- 9:36Speaker 4: they will somehow unite and kind of reinforce to each
- 9:40Speaker 4: other what this is all about for them. Again, that's true.
- 9:44Speaker 4: I'm sure it is true that they will talk like that,
- 9:47Speaker 4: and they may even believe that. But when you have
- 9:50Speaker 4: your leadership in disarray, there's no question that it is
- 9:54Speaker 4: a problem, and that is.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Where they are.
- 9:56Speaker 4: They've got to get that figured out first. I imagine
- 9:58Speaker 4: they will in relatively short order. But a JO when
- 10:01Speaker 4: you're asking how big this is, there's no question it's big,
- 10:04Speaker 4: and it's true. Also, as you mentioned that players were
- 10:09Speaker 4: shocked and people were shocked by this. Today this was
- 10:12Speaker 4: a stunning development because no one really did see it coming.
- 10:16Speaker 4: We've known he was under investigation by the FBI, that
- 10:19Speaker 4: has been out there for quite some time now, but
- 10:22Speaker 4: it did not seem, at least from the outside, that
- 10:25Speaker 4: the investigation was proceeding in a meaningful fashion to the
- 10:29Speaker 4: point where he would be the subject of an indictment.
- 10:32Speaker 4: There has not been an indictment issued, So again, I
- 10:37Speaker 4: want to stress this. I'm not exactly sure what happened here,
- 10:40Speaker 4: but I will repeat he was facing growing concerns from players,
- 10:44Speaker 4: and the players have been in contact their executive subcommittee
- 10:47Speaker 4: with federal officials. Something came to a head.
- 10:51Speaker 5: What is Major League Baseball's view of Bruce Meyer as
- 10:56Speaker 5: a negotiator? Is it a contentious view? Is it something
- 11:00Speaker 5: that if he steps into this role he was a
- 11:02Speaker 5: negotiator in the last CBA, But if he steps into
- 11:05Speaker 5: this role as interim or whatever, is this a good
- 11:09Speaker 5: relationship or is it a little butting of heads?
- 11:13Speaker 3: Butting of heads?
- 11:15Speaker 4: I don't know that MLB loves negotiating with Bruce Meyer,
- 11:18Speaker 4: and I don't know that Bruce Meyer loves negotiating with MLB.
- 11:22Speaker 3: And it was a tough negotiation.
- 11:23Speaker 4: The last time, and if you remember, the Executive subcommittee
- 11:27Speaker 4: voted to reject that deal again, that's that eight player
- 11:30Speaker 4: committee that kind of stands at the head of the union,
- 11:32Speaker 4: and then the general player population voted to approve it.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Bruce Meyer is going to represent their interests, I'm sure,
- 11:40Speaker 4: one way or the other.
- 11:41Speaker 3: And he is a tough negotiator. That is his job
- 11:44Speaker 3: to be a really tough negotiator.
- 11:46Speaker 4: So I don't know that MLB sees him as someone
- 11:51Speaker 4: who is going to be easy to deal with.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I would say it's just the opposite.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Ken.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I know that everyone's coming out saying it's not going
- 11:59Speaker 2: to change anything. He wasn't the only guy on it,
- 12:02Speaker 2: but it has to change something, right. It still has
- 12:05Speaker 2: to change something right. I know they're gonna Brussell. Bruce
- 12:09Speaker 2: has been doing a lot of the negotiating and a
- 12:11Speaker 2: lot of the people under Tony or staying the same.
- 12:13Speaker 2: But anytime it would be I can't even explain this
- 12:17Speaker 2: to people on home, Like Michael Wiener was the guy
- 12:19Speaker 2: before Tony Clark. He had Don Fear and then you
- 12:21Speaker 2: had Michael Wiener. Right, Michael Wiener passed away from brain cancer,
- 12:24Speaker 2: which is a horrible story. Tony took over, and those
- 12:27Speaker 2: were shocking. When Don Fear stepped down was shocking, Michael Wiener,
- 12:31Speaker 2: than Tony Clark takes over. Now, we don't know in
- 12:33Speaker 2: a negotiating year. I just can't explain how important. And
- 12:37Speaker 2: you can say, oh, it's not gonna change anything. It's
- 12:40Speaker 2: changing something, Okay, So that's it. That's my comment. This
- 12:43Speaker 2: sucks for the It sucks for the Players Association because now,
- 12:47Speaker 2: in a time when they should be more united than ever,
- 12:49Speaker 2: not only are they fighting a battle on the pr
- 12:52Speaker 2: they're fighting a battle against the owners. Now they have
- 12:54Speaker 2: to find a new leader. So there's just a lot
- 12:56Speaker 2: happening in a time when you're supposed to be like this.
- 12:59Speaker 6: Hey, there's no question. Now, is it possible they do
- 13:01Speaker 6: come out better for it?
- 13:02Speaker 4: If Tony Clark was doing things that were unethical, illegal,
- 13:07Speaker 4: whatever the case might be, of course it is, and
- 13:10Speaker 4: of course that could ultimately lead them to a better place,
- 13:13Speaker 4: there's no doubt about that. But at the same time,
- 13:16Speaker 4: we don't know exactly what was going on. And you're right,
- 13:19Speaker 4: they are scrambling now, and they're scrambling at a time
- 13:22Speaker 4: when they should not be scrambling.
- 13:24Speaker 6: Now.
- 13:25Speaker 4: They also have been aware of this investigation for months.
- 13:28Speaker 4: As I said, the Executive Subcommittee was in contact with
- 13:31Speaker 4: federal officials, So from that perspective, they could not have
- 13:36Speaker 4: been that surprised. They certainly were surprised by the timing.
- 13:40Speaker 4: But it's not as if this is something that came
- 13:43Speaker 4: out of nowhere. That investigation has been going on. We've
- 13:46Speaker 4: all been aware of that. It's just that we were
- 13:49Speaker 4: not aware that this was going to come to a
- 13:51Speaker 4: head anytime soon. So, AJ, You're absolutely right. And as
- 13:55Speaker 4: I said before, and I'll repeat it again, this is
- 13:57Speaker 4: the equivalent of Manford stepping down from the owner's side,
- 14:01Speaker 4: from Major League Baseball side. Tony Clark was the head
- 14:04Speaker 4: of the union. There's no sugarcoating that that's who he
- 14:08Speaker 4: is and was. So again, players are meeting later today.
- 14:12Speaker 4: There's going to be more to come with this. But
- 14:15Speaker 4: the only thing I would caution fans and people about
- 14:19Speaker 4: is the idea that somehow this is going to make
- 14:22Speaker 4: a lockout less likely. No, a lockout is coming. How
- 14:27Speaker 4: this affects the player's views, I'm not sure that really
- 14:31Speaker 4: will be impacted either, because, simply put, the players are
- 14:35Speaker 4: fairly strong, at least right now, as the owners are
- 14:39Speaker 4: fairly strong at least right now in where they are
- 14:42Speaker 4: now ultimately without their leader. How does that all play out?
- 14:45Speaker 6: We'll see.
- 14:47Speaker 5: I saw the end of Donald Fear's time. I saw
- 14:50Speaker 5: the short period that Michael Wiener was there, the way
- 14:53Speaker 5: that they spoke, the way the lawyers. It was my
- 14:55Speaker 5: first introduction into it. Then I played pretty much through
- 14:59Speaker 5: Tony's entire time as executive director. How are we going
- 15:03Speaker 5: to look back at his time as executive director of
- 15:07Speaker 5: the Union successful? I'm sure we'll see where this ends
- 15:13Speaker 5: up going this time.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Well, this is going to be his legacy, or at
- 15:18Speaker 4: least part of it. What happened here and is happening
- 15:20Speaker 4: here today. That he ultimately stepped down for reasons that
- 15:25Speaker 4: we will find out about in short order. I don't
- 15:29Speaker 4: know that he will be viewed in retrospect as a
- 15:34Speaker 4: great leader of the union. Don Fear was a great
- 15:36Speaker 4: leader of the union. Michael Wiener was a great leader
- 15:38Speaker 4: until he got sick. His last CBA was not as
- 15:41Speaker 4: good as some of the others had been. Tony Clark
- 15:45Speaker 4: presided over a couple of cbas if I'm not mistaken,
- 15:48Speaker 4: that were criticized heavily.
- 15:50Speaker 6: The last one.
- 15:50Speaker 3: I thought they did okay, but.
- 15:52Speaker 4: There's some things that they aren't getting back and haven't
- 15:55Speaker 4: gotten back. So Eric, you're asking me this at a
- 15:58Speaker 4: time when the story is still kind of the and
- 16:00Speaker 4: I don't really have a great feel yet for how
- 16:03Speaker 4: he'll be regarded. But someone mentioned to me this morning
- 16:06Speaker 4: that this, this resignation, this sequence of events will be
- 16:12Speaker 4: part of his legacy, part of his enduring legacy, and
- 16:16Speaker 4: that ultimately might be what defines his time with the Union.
- 16:20Speaker 3: We will see.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Ken just a couple more at the finish line here,
- 16:24Speaker 1: because we also did get Trek Scooble chatting at Tiger's
- 16:27Speaker 1: camp kind of alluding to it. Seemed like how he said,
- 16:31Speaker 1: Tony's been the face the PA in terms of negotiating.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I'm still as confident ever in Bruce and everyone else
- 16:36Speaker 1: we've got behind him again, kind of talking as if
- 16:38Speaker 1: they're going to make Bruce Meyer the next guy in charge.
- 16:41Speaker 3: So two more here at the finish line.
- 16:43Speaker 1: One is do you think that there's any concern that
- 16:45Speaker 1: if Tony Clark, you know, eventually gets in trouble for
- 16:49Speaker 1: doing something that hurt the players Union, that they need
- 16:52Speaker 1: to figure out a better strategy going forward of I
- 16:54Speaker 1: don't know, checks and balances or just making sure that
- 16:57Speaker 1: something like this doesn't happen, because we've seen this happen
- 16:59Speaker 1: in other year unions lately too.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Yes, there is definitely, I would say that feeling among
- 17:06Speaker 4: players right now that they needed to take care of
- 17:10Speaker 4: some things, they needed to find some things out, they
- 17:13Speaker 4: need to go in a more in a different direction
- 17:18Speaker 4: going forward. And from that perspective, if indeed they learned
- 17:22Speaker 4: from this and if indeed there are some things that
- 17:25Speaker 4: they can clean up correct whatever the case might be,
- 17:28Speaker 4: then yes, it ultimately will be a positive.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Can appreciate the time. We'll bring it to the players
- 17:35Speaker 1: here for the rest, you can get back to your thing.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Everyone.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Please check out The Athletic and Ken's article as it'll
- 17:40Speaker 1: get updated, probably again as we learn more about this story.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Ken, thank you appreciate it.
- 17:46Speaker 6: Thanks guys. Yeah, that's what he said.
- 17:48Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 17:51Speaker 6: That's what he said.
- 17:52Speaker 3: That's what he said. Hey, that's what he said.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Is engineered by fast and all where industry beats innovation.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Oh, we've got good ones today.
- 18:03Speaker 1: So we're going to start with Aaron Judge bringing up
- 18:07Speaker 1: some pointed comments about the offseason for the Yankees and
- 18:11Speaker 1: how he was pissed and then it took a turn,
- 18:13Speaker 1: so judge, E take it away.
- 18:17Speaker 3: It was. It was brutal.
- 18:19Speaker 8: You know, I'm like, I see a lot of free
- 18:21Speaker 8: agents out there. I see a lot of guys that,
- 18:23Speaker 8: you know, like the Bellingers, Grisham's, Goldschmid's like, you know,
- 18:27Speaker 8: let's sign these guys right now and then start adding
- 18:29Speaker 8: more pieces, you know, because I'm seeing other teams around
- 18:31Speaker 8: the league get better, They're making trades, they're signing big
- 18:33Speaker 8: prospects or big players, and you know, we kind of
- 18:37Speaker 8: we're sitting there for a while, you know, kind of
- 18:39Speaker 8: making smaller moves. But you know, it was it was
- 18:43Speaker 8: tough dur in the beginning. But I think once we
- 18:46Speaker 8: solidify getting Billinger back, you know, we got Trent being
- 18:49Speaker 8: our centerfielder, be able toad off guy for another year,
- 18:52Speaker 8: and then you had a guy like Goldie some of
- 18:53Speaker 8: the back end, you know, bullpen pieces that we've been doing.
- 18:55Speaker 8: I think I think we're being a good spot. But
- 18:58Speaker 8: early on it was pretty pretty tough to watch. I'm like, man,
- 19:01Speaker 8: we're the We're the New York Yankees. You know, let's
- 19:03Speaker 8: go out there and get the right people, get the
- 19:05Speaker 8: right pieces to go out there and and finish this
- 19:08Speaker 8: thing off because we've got to We've got a special
- 19:09Speaker 8: group of players here. We've got a good core, good
- 19:11Speaker 8: young cores. So it was frustrating, but I think we're
- 19:15Speaker 8: right were we need to be.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Did you express any of that to them?
- 19:20Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, But but they took care of business, and
- 19:25Speaker 9: I wished my opinion about a couple of guys, and
- 19:27Speaker 9: you know, Bellinger being one of the guys that he
- 19:30Speaker 9: just adds a dynamic to this team that you know,
- 19:33Speaker 9: we've been missing for quite a few years.
- 19:34Speaker 3: So excited, you know, excited he's back. Wow.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Usually don't get that from him. He was bringing it.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And then they even asked on the follow up if
- 19:47Speaker 1: he made his opinions known, and he did. I'm proud
- 19:51Speaker 1: of him. I mean, Pratt, you can go first just
- 19:53Speaker 1: because you played with him. I mean, you know how
- 19:56Speaker 1: judge he is. He usually doesn't give you much publicly,
- 20:00Speaker 1: but he was like, yeah, I was pissed. I mean,
- 20:02Speaker 1: my prime bring it. But then he was happy when
- 20:05Speaker 1: we got to the end of the offseason. I mean,
- 20:07Speaker 1: Yankee fans feel like they're running a similar position player
- 20:10Speaker 1: group back. But I do want to make that part
- 20:12Speaker 1: clear because I think some of the headlines were like
- 20:14Speaker 1: Judge pissed about off season.
- 20:15Speaker 3: No, no, no, you gotta.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Watch the whole clip. That's why we played the whole clip.
- 20:18Speaker 1: He was pissed in the beginning, voiced his concerns. They
- 20:21Speaker 1: were like, we're good, and then they did what he
- 20:24Speaker 1: felt was satisfactory.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Up hold on crats. We got the mute action again.
- 20:32Speaker 3: We got gremlins, all right, aj you got.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I mean, listen, good for a Judge saying this. But
- 20:39Speaker 2: at the end, again, like you said, Scott, he was
- 20:41Speaker 2: happy they brought all the boys back together. They brought
- 20:43Speaker 2: Bellinger back, and hey, they'll make another run with the
- 20:46Speaker 2: squad ad Garrett Cole, Bill Penn's a little bit different
- 20:49Speaker 2: than it was at the start last year. But hey, Darren,
- 20:51Speaker 2: Judge Gotwady wanted, he got Bellinger back, he got Goldtman back,
- 20:55Speaker 2: and we'll see what this team can do with another
- 20:57Speaker 2: year under their belt.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Do you like that a player makes a phone call
- 21:02Speaker 1: like that? And do you think that it matters.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Depends on who the player is. Depends on who the
- 21:09Speaker 2: player is. If your twenty six guy calls the owner
- 21:12Speaker 2: of the GM it doesn't matter that much. But when
- 21:14Speaker 2: someone like Aaron Judges won a bunch of MVPs and
- 21:17Speaker 2: led the league in homers and done all these things,
- 21:19Speaker 2: it matters.
- 21:22Speaker 3: All right, crats, I want to try otherwise we'll reset
- 21:24Speaker 3: you in a second. Yeah, you're definitely trying.
- 21:26Speaker 5: The fact that knowing Aaron Judge, not as a public figure,
- 21:31Speaker 5: as a teammate gives me a different view of him.
- 21:35Speaker 5: You know, you don't hear this from him, but that
- 21:38Speaker 5: that was like, honest, normal, every day Aaron Judge like
- 21:43Speaker 5: he's one of the guys. He wants the team to
- 21:46Speaker 5: be the best they can possibly be. Exactly what he said.
- 21:50Speaker 6: Was so true were the New York Yankees.
- 21:53Speaker 5: And he was not saying people who are like, oh
- 21:55Speaker 5: he hates the moves that were made. It's not at
- 21:58Speaker 5: all what he said. He hated the fact that there
- 22:00Speaker 5: was dudes going off the board.
- 22:02Speaker 6: That was like, like.
- 22:04Speaker 5: I could help us, what other guys, what other guys
- 22:07Speaker 5: can we get to help us? Like he's looking, he's
- 22:10Speaker 5: looking through a lens of how can the Yankees be
- 22:14Speaker 5: the best it can possibly be? When I'm on the team.
- 22:17Speaker 5: And I kind of even hinted at He's like, well,
- 22:19Speaker 5: they got Tran grishon for another year. That's you know,
- 22:23Speaker 5: he would have probably liked somebody that's going to be
- 22:25Speaker 5: there for the next four years while he's still there
- 22:27Speaker 5: for the next four years.
- 22:28Speaker 6: But I think.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Cashman's done a really good job through Aaron Judge's tenure
- 22:34Speaker 5: of trying to find guys that they feel are valuable and.
- 22:38Speaker 6: Then going to get them.
- 22:40Speaker 5: This offseason, it just wasn't that big, never been a
- 22:43Speaker 5: Yankee type of signing for them, But they did bring
- 22:47Speaker 5: back a guy who is a huge piece and I
- 22:49Speaker 5: think was one of the most versatile pieces in the
- 22:52Speaker 5: free agent market, and Cody Billinger.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Yeah, so you sum it all up and it seems
- 23:00Speaker 1: like he's okay.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Now.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I like that he's comfortable in his spot so he
- 23:04Speaker 1: can go right back to the Yanks and be like, hey,
- 23:05Speaker 1: what are we doing. Do I think it actually made
- 23:07Speaker 1: a difference.
- 23:08Speaker 3: No.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I think they had their game plan in place, and
- 23:11Speaker 1: it takes time to sign these guys, and by the
- 23:13Speaker 1: end of the off season they got to what they
- 23:15Speaker 1: wanted with Bellinger, who obviously took a while. It took
- 23:18Speaker 1: almost the entire offseason to figure that out, but they did, and.
- 23:23Speaker 6: He could be nervous.
- 23:24Speaker 5: He could be nervous like he was honest, he could
- 23:25Speaker 5: have been nervous during that time, Like, holy crap, I
- 23:28Speaker 5: just see because right before that, you see Bregman.
- 23:30Speaker 6: He goes right before that.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Leave Boston and go to Chicago.
- 23:34Speaker 6: He's like, we don't.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Get Bellinger, who are we going to get? So yeah,
- 23:38Speaker 5: I love that he's being honest. He was a little
- 23:40Speaker 5: nervous at a certain.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Point, and now here we are Judge back in camp.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Looks like also, just real quick, last thing on the Yanks.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I mean, Cole might pitch in some spring training games.
- 23:53Speaker 1: He's not going to start the season, but he might
- 23:56Speaker 1: get some action later in spring right on. Looks like
- 23:58Speaker 1: he's on a good pay so they might quickly have
- 24:02Speaker 1: a really nice rotation in place.
- 24:03Speaker 3: That was I think the biggest concern.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I don't think anyone has regular season concerns with this
- 24:07Speaker 1: team on offense, but with the pitching staff. You're like, hey,
- 24:10Speaker 1: how many guys are they going to be down early
- 24:11Speaker 1: on in the year. It sounds like it won't be
- 24:14Speaker 1: too bad for too long. Things can change. Spring training
- 24:17Speaker 1: just started, but good to put that out there, all right,
- 24:20Speaker 1: So that's what he said, and it's engineered by Fastenal.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Fastenal Industrial Supplies, Innovative Solutions. Want to learn more, visit
- 24:28Speaker 1: Fastenal dot com. Last big news story of the day
- 24:38Speaker 1: that would often lead the show, there's been a lot
- 24:41Speaker 1: of news today. The Twins hope they're being cautious with
- 24:44Speaker 1: Pablo Lopez, who exited his Live BP early with elbow soreness.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Derek Shelton, their manager, said Lopez would go for an MRI.
- 24:52Speaker 1: That's the tweet from Dan Hayes. I will add to
- 24:56Speaker 1: that with Aaron Gleeman's tweet from a few hours ago.
- 24:59Speaker 1: He said Pablo Lopez has a torn elbow ligament. Surgery
- 25:04Speaker 1: is very much on the table, according to Twins general
- 25:07Speaker 1: manager Jeremy zol. Gleaman said if surgery is needed, Lopez
- 25:12Speaker 1: would miss the entire season. AJ this is absolutely potentially
- 25:17Speaker 1: devastating news for Pablo and for a Twins team that
- 25:21Speaker 1: I didn't think and most people didn't think, we're going
- 25:23Speaker 1: to be good.
- 25:24Speaker 3: But I mean, can.
- 25:25Speaker 1: They survive without their first or second best starter? Right
- 25:30Speaker 1: it's it's Joe, Ryan.
- 25:31Speaker 2: And Pablo don't survive with him. I don't feel like
- 25:34Speaker 2: we've talked about it. We don't think that they're going
- 25:36Speaker 2: to be that competitive this year with him. To lose
- 25:39Speaker 2: him though, I me an injury suck. That's an understanding
- 25:41Speaker 2: for Twins, the Twins fans, and the Twins organization and Pablo.
- 25:46Speaker 2: I just feel like this is why, you know, there
- 25:51Speaker 2: had been trade talks about him and Joe Ryan and
- 25:53Speaker 2: things like that, and in Pablo has to miss a
- 25:55Speaker 2: bunch of time. Man, it's just now it's at least
- 25:58Speaker 2: another year. Then you got to get him back and
- 26:01Speaker 2: he's got to prove he's healthy. Oh this stinks, man.
- 26:04Speaker 2: But do you know what I feel most of it
- 26:05Speaker 2: for Pablo Lopez because he's such a good guy and
- 26:08Speaker 2: he works his tail off and he's just a great
- 26:11Speaker 2: interview and a great human being. This just sucks for
- 26:14Speaker 2: just see, guys have to go through this, and I
- 26:15Speaker 2: hope we're hoping for the best, But not sounded like
- 26:19Speaker 2: it's going to be the greatest news.
- 26:21Speaker 5: I would definitely say that could be something else from
- 26:24Speaker 5: this too. Most organizations, you lose the number one or
- 26:27Speaker 5: number two, got to scramble, gotta find out who's on
- 26:30Speaker 5: the free agent market. Does this put the hopes of
- 26:35Speaker 5: winning the amount of games that they wanted to win.
- 26:37Speaker 5: They say they want to still be competitive. You know,
- 26:40Speaker 5: obviously it's my opinion that they're not trying to be competitive.
- 26:44Speaker 5: Does this mean they're like, all right now, completely scrap
- 26:48Speaker 5: it down. We lost one of our top two pitchers
- 26:51Speaker 5: who they could have traded at some point anyway, you know,
- 26:54Speaker 5: Or does this say no, we cannot get rid of
- 26:58Speaker 5: Joe Ryan now because we need somebody he wants every
- 27:00Speaker 5: five days to be that consistent veteran in the rotation.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Well, they're not trading Joe Ryan yet, they're going to
- 27:06Speaker 1: trade him at the trade deadline because the new.
- 27:12Speaker 2: I agree, you are taking the risk, but he doesn't
- 27:15Speaker 2: get more value.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I know, but I know you played for the pole Ads.
- 27:18Speaker 1: But we're like generations down at this point. So now
- 27:20Speaker 1: it's Tom instead of Joe, and he is running ship
- 27:23Speaker 1: and he's more involved in it.
- 27:26Speaker 3: I should reset if this was how they were treating things.
- 27:30Speaker 1: They acted like they were going all in again, but
- 27:32Speaker 1: they didn't do anything. Tom Polad has openly said again
- 27:36Speaker 1: and again now because he's being more public, I give
- 27:38Speaker 1: him credit there, but he's like, we were pursuing fram Rivaldez.
- 27:41Speaker 1: So apparently they were pursuing frem Rivaldez, but nobody else
- 27:44Speaker 1: even close to that ilk in the free agent game,
- 27:46Speaker 1: so it was just framber or bust apparently. So if
- 27:50Speaker 1: that's the case, first of all, Lucas Giolito online one,
- 27:53Speaker 1: any other Starter max sures are online two, you should
- 27:56Speaker 1: just rack all those because combined they'll cost less than
- 27:58Speaker 1: frem Rivaldez. But I mean he went on the records
- 28:01Speaker 1: either I think it was today or yesterday, and they
- 28:04Speaker 1: the reporting out there is brilliant. You guys know, Dan
- 28:06Speaker 1: Hayes is great, Iron Gleiman's great. They told him and
- 28:10Speaker 1: others they told him about the over under for the
- 28:12Speaker 1: Twins at seventy three and a half, and the owner
- 28:14Speaker 1: was like, that's.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Ridiculous, is it?
- 28:18Speaker 6: No? I mean.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Probably close to that number, Scott.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Ten guys they treated away. They treated away ten guys
- 28:30Speaker 2: that were good players last year, so they didn't bring
- 28:33Speaker 2: in ten.
- 28:33Speaker 5: You guys, we give, we get, we give a we
- 28:38Speaker 5: we give a hard time to teams who don't land
- 28:41Speaker 5: free agents, but they say they're in on them. Part
- 28:44Speaker 5: of that is, like the pole heads need to understand.
- 28:47Speaker 5: You create an environment where players want to go to
- 28:50Speaker 5: you create an environment where you're like, I want to
- 28:53Speaker 5: play with that guy. They had that they had that
- 28:55Speaker 5: they brought in Carlos Kore and then they stopped playing.
- 28:58Speaker 5: They stopped playing in the free agent mar stop spending.
- 29:01Speaker 5: So maybe they were in on Framber. Maybe there was
- 29:04Speaker 5: somebody else we didn't know about, but like the ah,
- 29:08Speaker 5: woe is us, we couldn't get him. Create an environment
- 29:11Speaker 5: of where somebody wants to go and you know what,
- 29:14Speaker 5: the money that you're supposedly going out there to spend
- 29:17Speaker 5: or not spend, they'll accept it because it's a place
- 29:19Speaker 5: where people want to play.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Hey, we have an MVP candidate that was part of
- 29:32Speaker 1: the show today in Bobby wit Junior. So we figured,
- 29:35Speaker 1: let's look at the ALE MVP candidates on the bet
- 29:38Speaker 1: MGM futures in terms of where the.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Trends are swaying.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Highest ticket percentage belongs to Roman Anthony, the Red Sox rookie,
- 29:46Speaker 1: highest handle percentages, and where's the most money flowing, not
- 29:51Speaker 1: just each particular bet being placed.
- 29:53Speaker 3: That's Judge, So.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Thirty five percent going to Judge Anthony is the biggest liability,
- 29:59Speaker 1: and Judge the odds leader at plus two hundred. Look
- 30:02Speaker 1: at Roman Anthony getting a lot of love.
- 30:04Speaker 5: AJ plus a plus two at plus two thousand. I
- 30:11Speaker 5: can't hear AJ right now, but they'll get him back
- 30:13Speaker 5: plus two thousand. For Roman Anthony, it was it was
- 30:17Speaker 5: enticing for me, that's for sure. But I just put
- 30:20Speaker 5: it down.
- 30:21Speaker 6: He was just on the show. I just put down
- 30:24Speaker 6: plus five hundred. For Bobby Witt. I feel like.
- 30:26Speaker 5: There's the base running aspect that you brought up with him,
- 30:30Speaker 5: like there's some value there that he's always been. He's
- 30:34Speaker 5: always been up there in that conversation, you know, oh,
- 30:36Speaker 5: you know, an incredible year by Aaron Judge. If it
- 30:39Speaker 5: wasn't for him, if he was in the National League,
- 30:42Speaker 5: or if he was in America, whatever it is, Bobby
- 30:44Speaker 5: WIT's always there. I feel like this is the age
- 30:47Speaker 5: the time the team built around him a little bit different.
- 30:51Speaker 6: This is the year Bobby Witt MVP.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Agreed he was going to be mine. He was going
- 30:57Speaker 2: to be mine. But here's the problem. I've said that,
- 31:00Speaker 2: and whatever, if cal Rawly didn't win it hitting sixty
- 31:03Speaker 2: homers as a catcher and playing every day getting his
- 31:05Speaker 2: team to the postseason, if Aaron Judge just goes out
- 31:07Speaker 2: and as his normal Aaron, Judge ear, how do you
- 31:10Speaker 2: beat that? And I think Bobby Wick could be a
- 31:12Speaker 2: guy that could could do it. And after talking to
- 31:15Speaker 2: him and learning about what he's done and seeing him,
- 31:19Speaker 2: I think, you know, moving the fences in whatever. But
- 31:21Speaker 2: his defense is so good, his base running can be
- 31:24Speaker 2: so good. He can hit homers, he can hit for average,
- 31:27Speaker 2: he can do a lot of things. So I think
- 31:29Speaker 2: he has a chance. And he's not even on there,
- 31:32Speaker 2: but Roman Anthony, that's a lot of pressure to put
- 31:34Speaker 2: on a young guy. I think, Judge Wit, you know,
- 31:38Speaker 2: and there'll be someone else from the outside that comes
- 31:40Speaker 2: in and jumps in that conversation. I don't know who
- 31:42Speaker 2: it's going to be because I don't think anybody would
- 31:44Speaker 2: have said it would have been cal Rawley last year,
- 31:46Speaker 2: So there'll be someone else, But yeah, Judge and Witt
- 31:48Speaker 2: would be my two.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I think it's become such a war game wins above replacement.
- 31:55Speaker 1: So it does give Bobby a good shot because he's
- 31:59Speaker 1: in all around right, the defense, the base running, the power,
- 32:05Speaker 1: everything right, you name it.
- 32:07Speaker 3: He's got it all.
- 32:08Speaker 1: And I think that helps because it's an all encompassing
- 32:10Speaker 1: stat It certainly helps Judge, but it should help Bobby too.
- 32:13Speaker 1: So if he has one of those years where it's
- 32:16Speaker 1: front to back and there's some more pop which could
- 32:18Speaker 1: happen with the offences moving in, then maybe this is the.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Year for Bobby.
- 32:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 3: I like that play as well.
- 32:24Speaker 1: All right, let's look at what's going on in the NHL. Yeah, NHL,
- 32:30Speaker 1: because they're playing in the Olympics. So you've got the
- 32:34Speaker 1: Winter Games Hockey odds boost that's flowing right now, and
- 32:37Speaker 1: it's already been dropped into your account if you haven't

- 32:48Speaker 1: your bet slip, then activate the token. If you win
- 32:50Speaker 1: with that token activated, you get extra winnings. Gambling problem
