- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: something that I've told myself over the years is that I work better under pressure, or I work better under a deadline, and I think that it definitely makes you go.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you have to get it done, but what if you don't?
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: I've been in that position where I've actually missed deadlines of failed because I waited until I needed that feeling of pressure.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so there's just so much that goes along with this Superman superwoman
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Beat till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm also Logan, prize instructor, and fitness business coach.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: My friends, action brings clarity, and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to the video until you see an interview recap where my co-host and life Brad and I are going to dig into the demystifying combo.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: I have a Jill Allen in our last episode.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't yet, let's not interview.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Feel free to pause this now.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: Go back and let's snap one or you can listen this one and then see if you align with what we like in that one.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you like something different.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: So today is October 23rd, 2025 and there was no good days.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: So yesterday, the 22nd was National Make a Dog's Day.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going I don't want to forget this so pause you guys on the date of recording this is a month from Monday This is releasing and so a month ago from when you're listening to this and two days was like National like amazing wife's day and my husband did not know and he didn't announce anything No public displays of affection on Instagram nothing I'm just saying it was a very important holiday and it will never land in a Thursday because it's always on the third Sunday of every month
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: What date was that?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: It was September 21st and if you look and then days and the reason I know is because my and Rick Rick posted about my And he said it was national Amazing lifestyle on the 3rd Sunday of every month.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: He actually must have also gotten his day from this same exact same So anyways, that's back.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty badass Rick back.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't think it listens, but anyway.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't he doesn't
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: If my show me up make it me look bad, but just like that we took him right back down because it's not even listening Anyways, I'm just telling you that we don't do this on the Sundays and you're missing out on good holidays that could involve celebrating me but today But today we are celebrating national make a dog's day
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: And so October 22nd yesterday, National Make a Dog Stay, is how we use and stay to ensure that the dogs around us enjoy themselves as best as possible on my Lord.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: This is a day to spread information about dogs and importance in our lives and how much they can improve our days with love and loyalty.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: case you didn't already.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: Is there any scientific, is there any scientific evidence of this other than like it makes us feel good like is there I only know anecdotal like yes my dog is better because of my life is that it's my dog, but like is there any science behind this the day give us anything.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: No, so we're just we're just going to say it.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: We also use this day to encourage people to adopt from shelters and provide a better life at least one puppy may I suggest an older dog.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: go to your local SPCA.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: We donate to the Nevada one and we got to tour the facility and it is amazing.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: OPC donates to them and the time of this release, Cody and Onix better be adopted you guys because it's I'm really fucking struggling like I just want to.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: Brad, I think, wanted to write on exam because she's 11 and she's like a little black version of Gaia.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even kidding.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: Same under by same same, same everything.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: Very agile.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, Gaia was not that agile 11.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: We'll say that.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I want Cody and Cody is way too big.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: and we don't have time for that energy right now, but go to your local SPCA and go meet the dogs, go play with the dogs, become a volunteer and walk the dogs.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: You can even read to the dogs, right?
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: Because clearly that is going to make your life better and can also foster if you know like I'm only in town for a couple weeks at a time, you can become a foster and you won't even fail because you were like, oh no, I'm a big professional foster, I'm only going to take a dog,
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: for as long as I'm in town or things like, and they supply the food and the medical and you're just the house, you just get the love of the dog and it's quite great.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: So we mean the world for a dog and it's time we ensure they get everything made as her.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say,
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: our dogs are so fucking spoiled that this kind of holiday feels like a dog paid it up but at any rate we our lives are better because they're in it it's for sure there's no question about that well hey i'm really excited to be home we just got back we can't vote he just got there and we're hugging our dog we are and making his life better we're hugging our dog how nice of us to come home just in time for this holiday
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: How spicy yeah, you better feel special by home.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's not even.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: We came home just for you.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: He abandoned us.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: So it was you know, luck.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: Cambodia is magical.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: What an amazing experience.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: And you're missing out if you haven't joined us yet.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: So you should go get on the wait list for next year.

- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: Save some money, get on the wait list, and Snaggerspot.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: We already have released the winter tour event.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: We actually have the time recording is have not seen the whole schedule, but I have seen several cities, and I have approved several workshops.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I think with confidence, I can say Lexington, Kentucky.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think with confidence, I can say DC.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think with confidence, I can say Tampa.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: Here, let's just do this because this is like a guessing game.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: This is like you're not even helping me out.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, because what, with confidence, what can you say?
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: Pents a cola.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: Colour of springs.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Fayetteville, Arkansas.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so fun.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: Louisville.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's different than Lexington.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, sorry, said it wrong.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: St.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: Louis, I'm reading two things here.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: Then Lexington, then Columbus, Ohio.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, oh, we're going back.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: We've never been to Columbus.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, sorry.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: We've been dating so many people.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: Cleveland.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, sorry.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's also... That was such a bad move.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: That was like a California move, like... Yeah.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: That one's not locked in yet Columbus, but we're close.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be in Fort Wayne for a day off.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Then we're going to all have to Detroit.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're gonna hit it this time finally then it looks like we're swinging around We are doing our best to line up a spot in Pittsburgh and possibly Rochester so unfortunately Sounds like these aren't these are not real Canada is out
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: You guys are Canada is out.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm hearing this for the first time.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: Don't this is a thing you can't get mad at us And you can't get mad.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think of the Canadian government this time I think this is a host issue.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is a host issue.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: We've been having trouble connecting with studios It's insane like in Toronto and Ottawa just like
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: So, and we know you want this to come and they're just not like really can't understand that, but yeah, I mean at this point we're having we're going to look at the following year because it's stuff has already been negotiated.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: Torington we're gonna teach in Torington.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think we'll just connect it.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: Hershey PA.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like we're not giving them insider on anything because they're like I could just go to the website and they can they're hearing days off.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: They're hearing this.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: I know but it's more this way.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: I was doing it like guessing game.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna be in Rojo with Beach.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: The fuck is that?
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're going to that's Delaware.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a small space to say Delaware.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: Virginia, we're going to be in we're going to be in we're working on Charlotte right now, but not sure yet.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're still working that out.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: That was definitely been a problem.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: Savannah, Georgia, then four.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, we found something in Savannah.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: No way.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: No, it didn't happen like the last two trips.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's not like a day off or we're just laying the night.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Could be a day off.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: then we're gonna go down for a lot of the way we are teaching you know what you can do everyone go to opc.me slash events and you can see which of these are days off and which of these are real stops.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just gonna work for the rest of this.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: Petskoll and New Orleans Houston and Austin Houston we're still working on and then Phoenix we're probably most likely teaching Phoenix.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: Either Phoenix or Tucson we're still figuring that out but that's that's the path.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: We have some people in Tucson who wanted to come so that's good.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: We did.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: Well, there it is, folks.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we see that Mesaish events to get the actual lineup with the first shores of all days.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, we are recording this a month ahead of time.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: So by the time you're hearing this and seeing that, it will be a lot more clear.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: Now you can see it's really a lot of work.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: And it's really hard because we got a ton of people when we were going to Canada first time in the Toronto area wanted us to come, but none of them has studios.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: And we can't, we specifically give her cross on the border.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: We actually have to be invited.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: wing it wing it and then when the tour ends we come home kick off elevate six and then we head to heading to beach for the applies journal expo go to xxll dot co slash pilates journal i decided that's time saying it xxll dot co
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: slash party's journal and you're going to be able to get your tickets.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: There's a it's a huge lineup a lot of my friends are doing it was kind of fun like I knew I was doing it, but they didn't tell me who else was doing it.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like one of the girls that I trained to be a teacher is doing it.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: So like so cool so cool.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: So so so cool and I did that so long ago that's how long she's been a teacher because like
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: That was a long time.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: I was always 10 years ago.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: That'd be where agency mini is happening.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: You want to get on the wait list at pirafit.biz slash mini PRFIT.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's profit with that theo.biz slash mini.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: And that is for Appalizing Structures and Stue owners who would like to ditch all the chaos the noise the overwhelm and get their business to work for them.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people, a lot of people have been asking us what are we doing it again, y'all.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: So we're giving you a lot of a heads up here to get ready, get prepared, go to prfattetup.is-many.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: Get yourself on the wait list.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: So you can catch that early bird when we roll that out.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: In March, we are going to go to Europe and we're really fired up about it.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be in Poland and then in Brussels.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: So go to xxll.co slash pollin xxll.co slash Brussels for those two events and then April.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: POT London, which is a long time of this recording.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have a link for you to go to.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure it's already been announced.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm sure there's an early bar that you don't want to miss.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I am for sure doing the Joe's Jim's.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: and I still have a client contract.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a part of it.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: I am pretty sure I am teaching to amazing workshops, which is super cool.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: They are not any workshops that I've ever taught in England before.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: So if you would just came to the multi tour or you've been to a multi tour, neither of these workshops have ever seen the lot of Jay in that country.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: So you want to go.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, before we get into the lovely Joe Allen, we have a question to respond to.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: We totally do the, let's see, hold on.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: Mary, star, Pilates.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: Mary, star Pilates.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, are you on the screen?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on the wrong one.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: We're just going to leave that in.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: We're leaving that in.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry about it.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: Denise Stargazer said, hey, I would love your opinion about ankle and wrist weights while doing Pilates.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: How heavy?
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: How often is there a leg or ankle preference or brand?
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I do love that both two questions on a row will have the name star in them, which is quite cool, but okay, so how I answer this.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Pilates did mess around with some, but wait, they were the shape of a shoe.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: And my friend Joel Crosby made me a pair, and I think I still have them.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: And they are really hard for me to do Pilates with.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, the heart.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, I think that they're literally like a weighted soul that you strap onto the bottom of your feet.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to preface this with both Brad and I are hypermobile bodies.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so because of that, I and I have the longest legs already.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: So because of that, I actually think that just a general statement of ankle or leg weights in Pilates is probably
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: I do see the longest limbs, I do see how these things that Joe was creating that Joel created could be useful to someone who's not hypermobile someone who's already very strong in the practice and also if someone has a foot boot on like a foot boot that's a redundancy a boot on like they have a foot injury.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think a weighted ankle weight on the other leg would be helpful because then you have an evenness to what's happening distally on the leg.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: But in general, I think these things are a fitness fad that looks freaking cute on the skinny girlies and they match their outfits and it's just aesthetically pleasing, but I think it is a waste of time.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's so easy for your joints to do the moves.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: Whether you're doing Pilates or not, I think it's so easy for the joints to do the moves.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think it is asking a lot of the connections your body needs have.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: So if you are a super strong connected non-hyper mobile person and you don't feel your hip flexors or take over your back take over, have the most fun.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: Bala makes super cute ones by the way.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if you're going to put these ankle weights on and look like a Jane Fonda, it should at least be cute.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think that the average person just needs to get started, and I feel like this is just another thing someone have to buy and invest in.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Get out, dust off, to get their movement practice in.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm a not fan of them, and I don't use them.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's fair.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think also too, just the.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: just from cursory listening to y'all, teaching and doing all that stuff.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: Most people are picking up two to five pound weights, and I know you every time you're like, just use ones.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: In Pilates, you're using one, and in the gym, you're going to pick up heavy weights.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and if you want to use ankle weights at the gym, that is not my fortress.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: I go there, and I work out.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: My trainer gives me things.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: If she told me I needed ankle weights because she's so smart, I would listen to her.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: But in Pilates,
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if you have a super, if you have a Michael Phelps torso and short legs, maybe ankle weights would help balance your torso to your leg.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: Situation some exercises, but I really think before you add tools to things you might need to use like a dolphin, Brad's looking how long it's fine was he was like a dolphin.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: He had a ridiculously long spine.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: But like, I just think that like it's just one more thing that we're still is.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's alive, right?
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, he's alive.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: Still is like a dolphin.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I just think that like
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the other thing I'll say about this is ankle weights are like a prop and Joe never used a prop throughout every single exercise he used props as tools to teach a connection you need it and got rid of them so if you are a teacher who's like, oh my god, Leslie, I use the the ankle weights for this one exercise to help people great don't at me.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm good.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: I celebrate you.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's wonderful.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I just think that like how often how long it's just another thing out there that I don't think it's that's needed.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think we can get so much that applies without having make it harder to do.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: That's my personal opinion.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: I love this question so much.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: I want more questions like these.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: Send them to the beepot.com slash questions.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: Or what's the phone number?
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's not what I want.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: 310, 95, 55, 34.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm at least just 310.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good area code.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: We'll take it.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: 310, 95, 55, 34, or go to beitpod.com slash questions and send us your wins or your questions.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: Stick around.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to take into this really heartfelt combo with Jill Allen and she...
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: she coaches orthodontics offices are you not going to take a break at all wait for it she coaches orthodontics offices and the thing that's crazy is that the conversation is applicable to people of all walks of life it really is we didn't even talk about orthodontics yeah stick around we'll be right back oh come back let's talk about Jill Allen Jill is the founder of Jill Allen and associates doesn't that look like she should be also a lawyer
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, a lawyer or like should be like a legal wife to read handbags.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I see that.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, uh, she's an orthodonic consulting firm.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: She's over 30s of experience in the industry and specializes in helping doctors launch their own their own their own their own.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: their own orthodonic practices, focusing exclusively on startups and supporting new owners who have to lack formal business training.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's on so familiar.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: She's also the host of Hay Docks, a podcast where she shares business fundamentals and interviews experts to provide valuable insight for all entrepreneurs.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: Dr. Alan finds her greatest inspiration in seeing her clients grow.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: their practices into thriving multi-million dollar businesses, which is pretty epic.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: I love that and I felt like I commiserated with her a lot because we obviously service, you know, we serve the Pilates industry and so it was really interesting to hear her talk about when she started her consulting firm 19 years ago.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: There was no, like people were not using the internet.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: So for this kind of stuff, they barely using the internet.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: Social media was barely starting, right?
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: I know, because I had an, I mean, I had an orthodontist.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: I was in June, like it's sixth grade.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: And like, I mean, my parents had to like,
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: Just find one in the yellow pages.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: Probably the yellow pages or referral were different.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like a maybe.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: And because I doubt our insurance paid for orthodonic work, you know what I mean?
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: I for sure didn't because my siblings didn't get the same situation as I did.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, so which is something everyone likes to bring up.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: But, I mean, you can get 19 years, even the coaching, but she coaches them as change because now what they have to do, but it's fascinating because when we, you know, like there wasn't anybody doing what she was doing what she got started and we felt the same way with agency.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't anybody coaching, you know, pull out his business owners.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of same synergy, but I also want to say like everything I just say to you applies to anybody who's got a dream or a goal or a business.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: She said confidently stand in the space.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like you've got to be confident in the space that you're in, you know people and this is so true.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: People are not going to walk around and believe in you more than you believe it.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I believe in our members, I think sometimes when they believe in them, but the reality is, is that like, like, random people are like, oh my god, you're like, like, you have to believe in you.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, people want to, especially when you are in a service base business, orthodonics, Pilates, anything, people want the competent person.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: They don't want the person like, I think I know what I'm doing.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we, just before we hit record.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: our cars in the shop and we have a new mechanic because we have a new car.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, oh god, how much are they going to rip me off for?
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like taking a dog to the vet.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, what's the bill going to be?
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: And you just like spend the wheel?
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: And this guy is like, okay, here's a video of here's what we saw this.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: We saw this.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: We're just going to watch this.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: He was so kind.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: He stood in his compits.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: He could be bullshit.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know what I'm looking at.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: But like,
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: He was so confident.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I told him I love these guys.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: These are on mechanics.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: We're not switching.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like just that, just that confidence in there.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: And so I just highly recommend that for anyone who is on mission.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: She also stated that being a business owner requires grit and hard work.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: And there is an incredible, I can't think of your name.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's in the tip of my tongue, but there's an incredible TEDx talk on grit.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: And the truth is, is that the reason why most businesses, the businesses that become like successful, they found it's not like they hit lightning in the bottle, it's most the time that people just had grit.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: They just kept going and then she also said there is this pressure on business owners to hit these big financial goals and then that leads to imposter syndrome and we've had Brad Bizjack on a couple weeks ago and he talked about how like he misses all of his goals.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: But he's the most confident person you've ever met because like how he talks to himself how he pumps himself up and how he has confidence not in that he achieved the goal but in the work that they he did.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: And so she says, like, you have to keep pumping yourself up even if you don't believe it 100% yet because that is going to help you with the confidence in showing up and doing the hard work.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: And we got to take pressure for ourselves to hit the goals yesterday or this, I mean, like, people are like, okay, I'm charging my rates when I'm still don't have enough clients.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, right, one step at a time.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, I don't know, I just loved it.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: What did you think?
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: What did you love?
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, V. V. Okay.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: So actually, I was just going to bring up.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to remember if we had him on the pot, Reed, Tilesden, do you remember Reed, Super Super Tall, Professor, who owned like many, many gems over the years?
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we never had Reed on.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, well, he wrote a book and it's called, Grit It Done.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like low risk entrepreneurial tips and stuff.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, I know that's more for people who are starting a business, but when you start talking about grit, it started making me think about Reed.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hi Reed.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, hi Reed.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I really love when y'all know exactly what I'm going to talk about here because I keep coming back to this across different interviews Where we have the idea of the Superman or the Superwoman syndrome.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's the solo per-nor complex is another way to put it right where I have to be the one doing it I'm the you know, I'm I can do it better than everybody else.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have the money to do it to outsource any that kind of thing and she talked about
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: She specifically honed in on the the idea that it makes us feel like we're getting we are actually working it validates our own internal feelings right I need to be doing it all and she said it's a internal conflict and it also creates overwhelm right so it's this both thing where like that feeds our ego but it also creates overwhelm and it kind of gives us the idea that we are working so hard.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: right that we're getting something we're moving the ball forward somehow but we're just trying water but a lot of the time we're trying water it's really hard to do it.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: Have you just tried heading water recently?
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: like oh recently no but I I used to have to do that.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: We did something less and yeah for like 15 minutes yeah that was a long freaking time.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: Um especially for you.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: No, to be a lifeguard or something, you don't have the strength and endurance.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, your attention span, like, you couldn't do anything else.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: You are usual.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: You couldn't like tap something or click something or like, you just had to do one thing.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: I just can't, I never the longest 15 minutes for you.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, this idea of the Superman Superwoman syndrome, it really creates like debilitating pressure on you, because when it's not getting done, when something isn't getting done, whose fault is it?
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's always our fault.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: Because we're in the middle of every single project, every single possible thing.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, it really creates sometimes we, like, I think something that I've told myself over the years is that I work better under pressure,
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and I think that it's it definitely makes you go like you have to get them get it done, but what if you don't I've been in that position where I've actually missed deadlines of failed because I waited until I needed that feeling of pressure You know, so this is so much that goes along with with this superman superwoman syndrome when we're trying to do it all
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: And she also talked about like, it, you know, the irony here is that that overwhelm of like, what if you don't actually know what you're doing, what if you don't get it done or, you know, the, you can be overwhelmed by this realization that I don't know how to do it all while thinking I have to do it all, oh my god, the only one that could do that sounds like a terrible torture room to be in your mind, she said, she said,
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: How do you overcome this?
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: And ultimately, it comes down to trust, trusting others, to be able to execute or implement in a way that you would be doing it or as close to you as possible.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: And she said, take it like eating a cookie.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: Just one little bite of the time and keep moving forward, then be sure to look back and high five or self.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: So in this case, what she's talking about is as you're delegating, you know, go back and look at little pieces of it and make sure that it's up to the standard that you need and then you get the high five them, high five or self.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you're not running a business here, if this isn't like, you're not trying to do that.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: what if it was walk in the dog and you delegated it to a child of yours or what if it was cleaning the house for us neighbors of resilience who like legitimately the child was like eight years old and the other one might have been like I don't know six and they walked that dog and the dog was like way bigger than that.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: And we were like, oh my god, should they be doing this, but they did it every day.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: I watched them do it every day, you know, and so like I thought that was what a great response was easy block like it was not on a dangerous road.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're not crossing any streets, you know, but, you know, or it is, you know, it can can be.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think also you may have said this but like you also don't have to do some things like they just don't get done like you can just park okay, you know what's going to happen we're going to do laundry's on Sunday and that means everyone has to have enough underwear to get to Sunday that's how it's got to go that's when laundry's going to get done like I understand there's a story that a lot of people tell them something houses be clean for me to get my work done bullshit it does not have to be clean right.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: you have to be able to set your desk and there might be some interesting things about yourself that you might need things to be clean, but it's often excused to not do the thing because you have another reason to not do the thing.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I would just challenge yourself to figure out like so there's a whole idea like so what and then what and then follow the path and like the reality is a lot of things that we busy ourselves doing do not lead to the actual goal
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I want to say about that.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, I think I think that we're setting ourselves up for failure when we attempt to do everything all by ourselves.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: And and you know, there are times in our world in our life, whether that's just due to relationships or finances or whatever, where, you know, we are kicking off a project and we are the one
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: executing and being creative.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's really hard to wear those two hats at the same time and it really does help you to train someone properly to help you get all the work done.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and the other thing I just want to say is, or hire
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: a coach to help advise you on what's the most prior like the thing that's priority right now.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you were to try and if you're actually not sure what you're supposed to be focusing on, you could hire help and then be focused on the wrong thing.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's real.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's a perfect example.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: But there is a coach out there for every fucking niche.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: So you are an applies instructor and you're not on orthodontists.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: I promise you there is a coach out there for you.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: There is someone who coaches lawyers.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: There's someone who coaches social
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: Polaris instructors.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, I just said, but I said, I said, if you're not one of those already, if you, there's some who coaches yoga instructors or someone who coaches, you know, managers of franchises, like there are people out there who coach all these things, and this is a matter of finding the one that resonates with you that gets used to don't just fall for a really good, you know, funnel.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_00]: talk with them, ask them like what you're nervous about share, like here's my biggest fear.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to sign up with you and this is what's going to happen.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: And like, you know, make sure that you they have in my back, you're in tea and and then do the work, you know, but there's people out there who will help you.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll stick around.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to dig into a couple of those beat action items that we got from Jill right after this.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so finally, let's talk about this.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: Be it action at us.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: What bold, executable, intrinsic, or targeted action at us?
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: Can we take away from York comma with Jill Allen?
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: She said, hey, you got a block time schedule.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yo, she strongly advocates for block time scheduling for any business owner, even for those who dislike rigidity, which would be
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: me.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: Except for we just looked up things that help ADHD CEOs and one of them is a fucking box schedule.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, because it's like a sandbox that you get to do whatever you want with them at that time.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, she explained that without a plan, a business owner can find a hundred things to do with their day, which is the story of my life.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: I just watch shoes are to put
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: That is nothing to do with the work today.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: No, I was just listening to things and I had, but then I got, I got ADD because I, my drill stopped and I couldn't use it.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: Good times.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: So there's that.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: She explained without a plan, the business owner's gonna spend 100 things to do with the day and by creating start and stop times.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: Just for tasks, this prevents you from getting sidetracked which helps manage unotherwise unstructured day.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: We definitely.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: We love a kitchen timer.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: We love a kitchen timer.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like your time cubes are really great.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: I was just telling agency members.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's an office hours.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: We did it the other day.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: I said literally I have to, especially overwhelmed.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I am in the reentry because I'm always overwhelmed when we get back to work, even though I am.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we did all the work I need to do so I could start, you know, fresh, I still have to start.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not ahead.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I go, oh, God, I have to touch this inbox and I set the timer for 15 minutes and I scan for the most important emails.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_00]: The timer goes off, okay, 15 minutes in this Slack.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, 15, and like before you know it, you're caught up on things.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: The overwhelms are to dissipate because you actually have seen that there's not really any fires that are going on.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: And the stories in your head are not true, but time walks.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's so because I don't I won't work on other things because I'm on the timer of the first thing.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what about you?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: What was it basically said before making a decision or starting a new venture ask yourself, what's the worst thing that's going to happen.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: I really love this because if you can if you determine you can handle the worst case outcome to move forward with it.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean I mean she she specifically said when like she was working in the orthodontics industry but one of the start coaching new orthodontic business owners she said what's the worst it could happen is we could get no clients and then I go bankrupt.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: and that will affect my credit score and then, you know, what am I gonna do?
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, but there is a path after that.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, so once I embraced that, then it wasn't as scary as this amorphous black hole of like, what if things just don't go right?
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we have this idea we're talking about and not that we have any time for it, but we're talking about doing this thing.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I kept just thinking like, oh my God, there's so much uncertainty right now, it's gonna cost us so much money, I'm not gonna find this thing that I want.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: And if it doesn't work out, then we're like, up, right, like it could actually cost us things.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then we can with this idea, we're like, oh, we could just build it in the backyard.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, because the worst case is the idea sucks, it doesn't work.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: And we've a beautiful 80 year in the backyard.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: I won't move forward with that.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited about it.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: All right, the other thing she said I want to bring you up before we move on is be brave, not perfect.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: And she was referencing a book, and I'm sorry, guys.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: I am forgetting the name of that book.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: But be brave is called brave.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: Brave not perfect.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: Brave not perfect.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's by Rishimi, Reshma, Sojani.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, is it Reshma?
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: Reshma, Sojani.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: But Reshma, the Reshma?
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know who the freshman is.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: So if it's the freshman she has the best the best college graduating speech If it's her she's a lawyer.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, this woman this woman if you this woman code this one is this woman is absolutely Incredible she's the one who like talked about bike face if you haven't like look her up Google
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: bike face college beach and it's this whole thing that back when like bikes were invented when bicycles were not just invented but like more popular poor people can have them.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: They started telling women they were going to have their bike face because now women could just get around on their own.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_00]: I kid you not the number of times that women finally get like a fucking inch of independence and it like oh let's just like fuck this up.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: So what happened is
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: in their dresses, so they started wearing trousers.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: And people didn't like their own trousers.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's from A and Nails could get around without a mail, and they could be independent, and they could, I don't know, have a fucking dream in life of their own.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, they would tell them and be careful you're gonna have bike face.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: You won't be attractive in the known, I'll marry you.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_00]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
- 34:59[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe next year I should have a book club.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: But I'd be at Pod Book Club.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that I can get the authors every time, but maybe I can figure that out.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: If you like that idea, let us know.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_01]: By texting 3 when I'm 95, 5534.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about a Beat Pod Book Club?
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: The Beat Pod Squad?
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, oh, that's what I want to call you guys.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: And so, I call you Beat Babes and I kind of want to call you the Beat Pod Squad.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I also need to know, like does that sound good or does that sound like I'm creating like a cult?
- 35:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I just don't want to create a cult.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: You're not creating a cult.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: You're creating a squad.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: But if it was a, but if it was a book club, I do believe that I would want the, somehow the club has to be a podcast episode.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: You guys, my team will freak out if we had another Zoom call that does not produce an episode or a class.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: So, so anyways, okay, well,
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: Jill Allen, thank you for being you and thank you for just reminding us that we should have grit and stand in confidence and just go for it.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: I was just such a whole, some wonderful interview and I'm really excited for every or that also gets to work for you because I'm sure most of our listeners, kids are going to benefit from that, including our listeners.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a dulce of praise says it's a thing now.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_00]: And show this opportunity to hear it and be a tell you see it.
