Latest / Mom Street USA / 137. Bringing the Theme Parks Home (Hub Episode)
Transcript
- 0:05Welcome everybody to another episode of Mom St.
- 0:07USAI am your host Jackie, and you've got a hub episode today.
- 0:11So we are joined by our good friends Duck and Jess for
- 0:14today's topic. And today we're going to be
- 0:16talking about recreating the parks at home.
- 0:20So different tips and tricks of things that you can do at home
- 0:24if you're missing Disney or Universal.
- 0:26That is our topic for today. But before we jump in, Duck and
- 0:30Jess, how are you doing on this lovely summer evening?
- 0:34Do you want to grow any good? Yeah, can't complain.
- 0:36Very excited to talk about some of this stuff because you know,
- 0:40as much as we would love to literally live at various theme
- 0:44parks, it is unfortunately not realistic.
- 0:47Yeah, and we are, you know, fairly far away, you know.
- 0:54You consider locals. No, considering I am in Ohio,
- 1:00you all are in the New Jersey area, we're we're just not
- 1:04close. So this list is truly things
- 1:09that we do like realistic. It's not just like a list of
- 1:13things that we have come up with.
- 1:15No, this is like legitimately what we do.
- 1:17So we're excited to share it with you to hopefully give you
- 1:21guys some ideas. I'm fairly certain a lot of our
- 1:24listening audience probably does one or two of the things that
- 1:27are on our list, given that we're all, you know, theme park
- 1:30people. It's it's like the hive mind
- 1:32situation, you know, like I think eventually everyone has
- 1:36the same Google search of how to feel like Disney at home, how to
- 1:40universal at home or whatever you are, you know, various
- 1:43searches off of that maybe for sure for the other.
- 1:47Well, and I feel like this truly, and I've got some stories
- 1:49later that kind of tie into this, but I feel like truly,
- 1:52this started a lot more when everybody went through the
- 1:56pandemic together and the parks were closed and we couldn't do
- 2:00anything with the parks. Like, we literally didn't even
- 2:03have an option to go. Yeah, You know, people were
- 2:06just, and we were all just so desperate for a little tiny
- 2:08taste of the parks at home. And it has now kind of blossomed
- 2:14into this really accessible thing that you can do various
- 2:18different ways. So I'm excited to hear what you
- 2:21guys have to share and to bring my $0.02 into today's topic.
- 2:26So Duck, are you starting us off today?
- 2:30Are. You up first, I'm up first.
- 2:33I mean, it's a kind of different part.
- 2:35So yeah, we can. Just jump right in.
- 2:36I love it. Let's go.
- 2:38All right, so one super easy way to bring the theme parks home is
- 2:42through scented candles and room sprays.
- 2:44They are there are entire companies that are dedicated to
- 2:47recreating the iconic sense of Walt Disney World and Universal
- 2:51right at home. So we've been recreating our
- 2:54Sapphire Falls vacations by spraying Royal Sapphire.
- 2:59Not sponsored, no hash hash not sponsored.
- 3:03Listen, we wouldn't be upset. Nope, we would not be upset.
- 3:06We would love to be sponsored. Listen, our room, this was
- 3:09purchased with our own money because I, we were, we were
- 3:13chomping at the bin. I was, I was like scratching at
- 3:16the walls. I was like, I need a little
- 3:18something. And I was like, cuz we were also
- 3:21trying to figure out, you know, like a home signature scent, if
- 3:25you will, right. Like, I really like that idea.
- 3:27It feels very bougie, but still within my tax bracket, you know
- 3:30what I mean? Yeah, I really like the smell of
- 3:34Sapphire Falls. I bet you there is someone out
- 3:37there, like, I bet you, I could either like buy the scent
- 3:39directly or somebody has been able to recreate it.
- 3:43And lo and behold, we found, quite literally, they have the
- 3:46exact scent that is both Royal Pacific and Sapphire Falls.
- 3:49So it it it scratched. The edge.
- 3:51Very accurate, Photorealistic. Yeah.
- 3:53Sapphire. I don't think I said the name of
- 3:55the company. The company is Parksense.
- 3:58And they have, you know, a whole line of candles and fragrance
- 4:02oils and all kinds of things, and from everything from
- 4:05Universal hotels and parks to Disney parks, hotels, Disney
- 4:08snacks. So they are easily our favorite
- 4:11at the moment. They also have one for the HHN
- 4:14fog which I'm desperate to try. I find and yeah, yeah, if it's
- 4:19still the same does does the. Fog have a distinct scent.
- 4:23It absolutely does. And I will say so it is, it is
- 4:29even slightly different than like your traditional theme park
- 4:32haunt fog sense, right? Like 'cause I think everybody
- 4:35can picture that, right? Like even if you never, if
- 4:38you've been to like a concert, right?
- 4:39Like if they have the fog machines, like guy has a very
- 4:41distinct scent. Universals is is it's in that
- 4:46same vein but it is slightly different.
- 4:49I think because they need so much they might have like their
- 4:51own basically like in house formulation at those fall in
- 4:5524/7. Once once September hits it's
- 4:58over. Those things don't one.
- 5:00So yeah, I'm really, I think that's the next one that we want
- 5:03to try just to say yeah, yeah. Well.
- 5:05It'll be good because you'll go on your trip and then you can
- 5:08really truly compare like, and you're not relying just on your
- 5:11like memory of last year's fog to try to compare.
- 5:16You know, it's going to be like a whole science experiment.
- 5:19That's it. Nailed it.
- 5:21Where can you do this? We're going to do this
- 5:23scientifically. There's going to be a
- 5:24methodology to this. We're going to brainstorm it.
- 5:27I'm going to figure it out. We will make this a full
- 5:29experiment. Yeah, exactly that.
- 5:34That is exactly what I was picturing in my head was just
- 5:37like the little beakers and things from The Nightmare Before
- 5:40Christmas that it's perfect. Yeah, what could it mean?
- 5:47I love this. Well, aside from Parksense,
- 5:49there's some other companies that have similar things that
- 5:53products that they offer. So what?
- 5:55What else do we what? What other companies can we go
- 5:57to to look for our favorite scents?
- 6:00So there is magic handle company, which I'm sure a lot of
- 6:03you have heard of a lot of Youtubers and stuff promote them
- 6:05as well. And there's also Bose signature
- 6:08candles. So they actually have a spot in
- 6:10the marketplace Co-op in Disney Springs and they actually
- 6:13partner with Disney to create scents that are inspired by the
- 6:16resort. So that is like, if you want
- 6:18like official, like sponsored by Disney Sense, that is the place
- 6:23to get them. They also do have an online shop
- 6:25too, so you can get them shipped to home.
- 6:28But it's definitely like a fun souvenir, functional souvenir,
- 6:31right? You go pick out the scent for
- 6:32maybe the resort you're staying at or whatever, and then you get
- 6:35to bring it home and then kind of have that magic with you when
- 6:37you get back from a trip. So that is another fun option
- 6:41too. And Bath and Body Works has been
- 6:43coming out with a bunch of really fun Disney inspired lines
- 6:46and every once in a while too, like I think they had like a
- 6:48Fiji candle at one point that smelled like Fiji and Sauron.
- 6:52Like was definitely not purposefully inspired by, but
- 6:55just happened to smell just like it.
- 6:57So sometimes you can find dupes and places like Bath and Body
- 6:59Works and Yankee Candle and stuff like that.
- 7:01But the Bath and Body Works line is definitely not like parks
- 7:04inspired, but Disney character inspired and things like that.
- 7:07So it's a lot of fun. You definitely have a bunch of
- 7:09scents from the collection. So I think I'm currently using
- 7:12the Like Tangled scent. I think I've got Tiana right now
- 7:18that that I have been because I like the Tiana and the Moana
- 7:22were like my two favorite from the princesses that came out.
- 7:25And then the second collection that bath and Body Works had,
- 7:28they had just like a generic Princess candle.
- 7:32I loved it. It smelled so good.
- 7:35It smelled so good that we had a bunch of like, you know, Bath
- 7:38and Body Works has a pretty good decent like rewards program and
- 7:42we had a bunch of the single Wick candles for free and we
- 7:45used them all on that Princess candle because I was like it.
- 7:48Smells so good. Yeah, and it's always like they
- 7:51always run promotions where? It's like giving.
- 7:53Things Buy hair candles, get 47 hand sanitizers for free or for
- 7:57a year. Bath and body works.
- 8:00OK, so I'm I'm sure folks are familiar with this term, but
- 8:03like the treat economy, right, like you can, you can maybe
- 8:06can't afford your to like do a huge and like maybe you can't
- 8:09afford to take a theme park vacation at this very moment.
- 8:12But what you can do is get yourself a little treat that
- 8:15reminds you of the parks. And so like IA bath and body
- 8:18work is like the foundation of the little tree economy with
- 8:22especially with this Disney line and some of the other sense,
- 8:25like you said, that are very similar to other things.
- 8:28So those Princess candles and that was, that's like a pillar
- 8:31of the little treat situation. And then I rationed them so that
- 8:35I so that so that I don't, you know, you can't leave them
- 8:38burning all day. You have to find another cheaper
- 8:41candle that the scent compliments it.
- 8:44It's a whole thing to talk about science experiment.
- 8:46This is my science experiment. It becomes a hobby 100.
- 8:51Percent. Yeah.
- 8:52Well, and then Andrew bought me, they had a Castle little plug in
- 8:56for the car like that you can put on the vent.
- 8:58So he bought me that and with a bunch of the little sense too.
- 9:01So like every time I get in my car, I have a little castle.
- 9:03It's just I know that's what you have to do.
- 9:07Like literally, I live in Ohio. Come on people, give me
- 9:10something. I need this castle.
- 9:14I need this in my life for my mental health.
- 9:16OK, It's fine. It's fine.
- 9:19I'm fine. We're fine.
- 9:20Don't worry about it. This is.
- 9:24Fine. Yeah, we're great.
- 9:25OK. So aside from sense, I think our
- 9:29next topic that we want to talk about is food, which I'm, I'm
- 9:32guessing we're turning this over to duck because this is this is
- 9:34their their bread and butter, if you will get it.
- 9:38It's funny. It's not funny, but I'll, I'll
- 9:41humor me and pretend like it's funny.
- 9:43So duck, what can we do with food all?
- 9:48Right. So we're saying, I think we've
- 9:50established, right, Like my favorite thing about theme parks
- 9:53is trying their miscellaneous snaps.
- 9:56If we can sneak a signature dinner situation in there, we're
- 10:00going to do it, right? I think that people think that
- 10:04these special treats are often more difficult to make than they
- 10:08necessarily are. So there are some things that
- 10:12you can do that you don't like fully need a cookbook for,
- 10:15right? Like my favorite breakfast to
- 10:17get one where Magic Kingdom is the fruit and Nutella waffle
- 10:21over in Soopy Hollow, right? And so that is a perfect
- 10:27breakfast in my personal opinion.
- 10:29It's chocolate, it's fruit, it's carbs.
- 10:30Like we're good. And so easy to do at home.
- 10:34It's so good. And so at home when I'm like
- 10:37really just like in my fields about not being able to go to
- 10:40the parks, I'm like, I can have my perfect breakfast.
- 10:44There's nothing stopping me. You know, I'm an adult.
- 10:47I can have them tell for breakfast.
- 10:48There is no rules. Here, absolutely.
- 10:50Especially when you're in the theme parks.
- 10:52Yeah, 100%. So that is like a good easy one
- 10:55to recreate at home. You don't necessarily need any
- 10:58guidance or instructions, but for some of the more complex
- 11:02things, or maybe it's like a full meal that you're trying to
- 11:05recreate. There are about 110 trillion
- 11:10theme park cookbooks, right? It's like anything and
- 11:13everything that you can think of.
- 11:14We have a ton of them actually. So we have the Unofficial Disney
- 11:18Parks Cookbook, Delicious Disney, Walt Disney World
- 11:23Recipes and Stories from the Most Magical place on Earth, the
- 11:26Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, and we actually there was one
- 11:29more that we had. We have a couple of them.
- 11:31I just looked at me on pic and it's like whatever, I could buy
- 11:34it to see a cookbooks like shoved everywhere.
- 11:35Yeah. Cookbook problem.
- 11:38If this is what you're accusing me of public, I'm certainly not
- 11:40accusing you of a problem. I my problem is I buy them and
- 11:43then I forget that I bought them and then I forget that I should
- 11:47use them. It's a collection I.
- 11:52Know I know this this this this episode right here is going to
- 11:56get me to actually find my cookbooks that I have perfect
- 12:01because I know I have two or three that are Disney related.
- 12:04Yeah. And, and they have done, I have
- 12:07to say with pretty much all of those, they've done a good job
- 12:10of making the recipe of scaling it down.
- 12:13Of course, you're not cooking enough food for a theme park.
- 12:15So it's scaled down. And for a lot of these, there
- 12:19are, it is like reasonable suggestions of substitutions if
- 12:25maybe you don't have access to every single ingredient, right,
- 12:27to get it that recipe close enough to whatever may be your
- 12:31favorite themed Brock lunches or your favorite snack or something
- 12:34like that. So I've actually, I've I've
- 12:37we've made many recipes out of these books and most of them are
- 12:40pretty close. The one that I think we've made
- 12:43the most often though, is the Ronzo wraps from Galaxy's Edge,
- 12:47because that is feels very specific, right?
- 12:51It's like very unique. It feels very Galaxy's edge and
- 12:55they're really easy to make, like shockingly easy.
- 12:58So that is, that's a recipe that's also a lot of these
- 13:01recipes are also available online, especially like you were
- 13:04saying, during the pandemic, Disney put up a lot of them
- 13:06themselves. So the Pronto Wrap is a really
- 13:09good one because it's very unique to the theme parks and
- 13:12it's fairly approachable. Even if you weren't like a
- 13:14super, super chef, you know, if the cooking's not necessarily
- 13:18your hobby. Yeah, I, I stick more with the
- 13:21baking side of things. So I'll do more of that kind of,
- 13:24I know that I've done like churros and things like that
- 13:28before where it's like I just wanted, just wanted a little
- 13:30bit, a little bit of something. And Kate and I have done a
- 13:34couple cooking episodes way back when, you know it when in the
- 13:38first year or so of Mom St. we did a couple where we did some
- 13:41copycat recipes and things, but always super fun.
- 13:45Disney food blog has a bunch that are online too that you can
- 13:48go to where they have like the copycat recipes.
- 13:51Lots of places you can find them online if you don't have access
- 13:54to a cookbook. But the other thing is a lot of
- 13:56these cookbooks are like at your local library.
- 13:58So like. Library kids?
- 14:01Absolutely. Yes.
- 14:02So support your libraries. Go check out what they've got.
- 14:05Because of a lot of these cookbooks, none of them are like
- 14:10put out by some weird indie distributor, like they're all
- 14:13put out by Disney. So like your, your libraries are
- 14:16going to have them. So that's another place that you
- 14:18can grab them from and keep them for a couple weeks and make a
- 14:21bunch of recipes and have fun with it.
- 14:24Yeah, 100%. If you can't, maybe if you are
- 14:27not that handy in the kitchen or maybe if that just does not, you
- 14:30are not interested in dirtying that many pots and pan, that is
- 14:34a OK, there's no judgement here. What you can also do is there
- 14:38are in some grocery stores they will sell essentially like mass
- 14:44produced versions, like localized versions of different
- 14:47Disney treats. So of course there's the
- 14:49premium, the Mickey premium bars and the Dole Whip.
- 14:53You have a very strong opinion the.
- 14:56Same. It has like a banana Y taste to
- 14:59me, like I don't know what it is.
- 15:01So it's definitely not the same. But like if you're looking for
- 15:04that fix and you're like, I don't care.
- 15:05I just want like a Dole Whip adjacent treat.
- 15:08Totally passable, right? Also a lot of like local ice
- 15:10cream places by us anyway. I don't know if like everywhere
- 15:13does it, but like have their own versions of Dole Whip.
- 15:16So I've never actually tried those near us though.
- 15:19But a lot of people do order it. So almost I think it's good, but
- 15:22part of me is just like, I don't know.
- 15:23If it's not the same, I'll be disappointed.
- 15:25Right. I think part of the difference
- 15:27is, though, that like the one you buy at the store doesn't
- 15:29come out of a soft serve machine.
- 15:32It's like it's like, well, it's like canned or bottled Coke
- 15:35versus fountain Coke. Yeah, You know what I mean?
- 15:38Like there's a difference between 100%, yeah.
- 15:43Yeah, the syrup ratios and then like also like for transit,
- 15:46right, Like, yeah, being made in the soft serve machine versus
- 15:49having to be shelf stable for some undetermined period of
- 15:52time. Exactly.
- 15:54I mean like it's, it's just different circumstances.
- 15:57So like you said, I think they're extremely popular.
- 16:01Every time we're getting them in our local place, there's always.
- 16:06Some we have found the Mickey ice cream sandwiches too.
- 16:11Yeah, yeah, Class X goodbye. Yeah.
- 16:16The other thing that you can do as like an at home, it is a
- 16:20little bit of an investment, but you, you wanted to throw this in
- 16:23here, There's the, there's the Mickey waffle maker that they
- 16:28sell so you can have your Mickey waffles at home.
- 16:30There's nothing stopping you except $100.
- 16:33If you can get that $100 together, you too can have.
- 16:37Mickey waffles. I've priced them out before.
- 16:39I'm like these are expensive but.
- 16:41If you wait till Black Friday, sometimes Kohl's will have the
- 16:44little small ones on sale too. Yeah, I have Mickey shape, but
- 16:50like they do Disney Cheyette. Yeah, don't.
- 16:53You have best *1. No, that's not Panini Press.
- 17:04That's the. Molten cheese.
- 17:07It does press the dust stickers out because I.
- 17:10Tried to use it once and burn the holy heck out of my hand and
- 17:13I was like that's this is getting a blunt and.
- 17:16She'll probably come from like box lunch or something.
- 17:18It's just not a very legitimate, you know, depending.
- 17:21On how it's made, you may be able to make like a really thin
- 17:24waffle on that. Just saying.
- 17:27Like a crate. Yeah.
- 17:28Roll thin, Jackie. Jackie, you're on this though.
- 17:32I'm about. To go get this head job back in
- 17:35the cover. Coming to you soon on the next
- 17:39Chaos live stream, Duck and Jess attempts to make Death Star
- 17:44crepes. From the Burn War, I'm going to
- 17:50come on. It didn't.
- 17:51Work. And then I'm going to feel real,
- 17:54real responsible for that. Jess, I'm so sorry.
- 17:59No one can be responsible for me.
- 18:01There's no, there's no controlling this.
- 18:03Oh my. Gosh, one of my favorite things
- 18:06that we started doing on Christmas morning after we open
- 18:10gifts with my kids, we turn on the Disney parade, of course.
- 18:13And I have a Mickey waffle maker from 1992 that my mom used to
- 18:22make us Mickey waffles on. The handle on it is totally
- 18:26broken because I think I dropped it at one point in time and the
- 18:28plastic just shattered. But there's enough of like a
- 18:32little handle that I can open and close it without burning
- 18:34myself. But I make Mickey waffles and we
- 18:36do like a Christmas morning brunch and it's the old school
- 18:40they, they come out about as big as my face and they are the
- 18:44Mickey shape. They're not like the some of the
- 18:46newer ones have like the circular where they just like
- 18:49imprint the character. You know what I mean?
- 18:52This is like true Mickey waffle. And the best part is that the
- 18:56ears are like little syrup buckets and you can like, it's
- 19:00the best part. That's a proper picture.
- 19:03I know and like they don't make. I have scoured the Internet and
- 19:08they do not make waffle makers like this anymore.
- 19:11And so this is like my prize Mickey Possession is this waffle
- 19:16maker. I'm going to tell you.
- 19:18Scour yard sales. That's the other place I need to
- 19:22look. That's going to be the place
- 19:24because people are going to be like, well, I don't this thing
- 19:26is from when I was a kid in 1992 or whatever, and they're just
- 19:30going to throw it out for a dollar and then you'll have a
- 19:32backup. That and that's what that's what
- 19:34I was looking for because I was like, I need to make sure that
- 19:37this Mickey waffle maker never dies.
- 19:40I need to go to like flea markets and stuff near me too.
- 19:45That's a good call. Now I know what I'm doing with
- 19:48every weekend from now until it's too cold to be outside.
- 19:53That's the game. Yes, but yeah, any of those
- 19:56kinds of things. And you can buy the same waffle
- 19:59mix that Disney uses. I don't remember off the top of
- 20:02my head what it's called. It's in like a golden bag.
- 20:04But it's like you can buy, you can Google it and find out, but
- 20:08you can literally buy the same waffle mix that Disney uses.
- 20:13That's actually a really good point.
- 20:14There are more things that you can buy that commercial kitchens
- 20:19use than most people think. So if there's a particular sauce
- 20:24or like something that you really like that you that you
- 20:27normally get at a theme park and you've never really seen it
- 20:30anywhere else, just Google it, you can find it.
- 20:33This is how I learned how to make movie theater popcorn at
- 20:36home using It's a thing called flavour call.
- 20:39It's like the, it's like the, the salts that that movie
- 20:44theaters use, right? And so like, I couldn't quite
- 20:46get it. And finally I, I caved and I
- 20:48googled it and it turns out that they sell it just like to
- 20:51regular people. You don't have to be yeah,
- 20:55right. Like perfect example is like if
- 20:57you really, if you really are going for the the little tree
- 21:01economy, right, like you're going for the Mickey Waffle
- 21:03experience, you can absolutely get that that same mix.
- 21:06Or if there's again like sauces or anything like that, those are
- 21:10pretty widely available too. Yes, it's it's, it's becoming
- 21:13more and more be as like people have posted online, like, hey,
- 21:18I'm a cast member in this kitchen.
- 21:19This is what we use. Like that part, like it's,
- 21:21they're not sharing Disney secrets, you know, it's just,
- 21:25it's. Hellman's mayonnaise is our
- 21:27secret. Right.
- 21:29Like, it's just, it's just not that way anymore.
- 21:31So I feel like the more, you know, the, the, the more in
- 21:35Internet culture we have become since, you know, when we were
- 21:38kids, nobody knew what Disney was using.
- 21:40Like, there was no way to find out unless you literally worked
- 21:42there. But now it's, it's pretty
- 21:45widespread information for a lot of things.
- 21:48Yeah. No.
- 21:49Absolutely, and shout out to the Internet what are the only good
- 21:52things you did? So true, so true.
- 21:57OK, what else food wise can we plan to do to bring the parks up
- 22:02to our homes? So this.
- 22:04Is, if you are correct, like me and love Epcot and their
- 22:08festivals, what we really like to do is basically try to create
- 22:13our own little like eating around the world flight at home,
- 22:17right? So we'll look up the menus or if
- 22:19there's like things that have been there in the past that we
- 22:22know, you know, food or drink or whatever.
- 22:26Most of these things are pretty easy to do at home and you can
- 22:30have as much or as little of the portion as you want, right?
- 22:33Like sometimes you get you get a little cheaped out at some of
- 22:35these food booths. I'm willing to admit it.
- 22:37You friend a lot of it, it works out fine because you are going
- 22:40around in sampling, but you know, maybe you wanted more of,
- 22:45you know, the this one particular dish then the other.
- 22:47You know, at home you can have a little bit more control over
- 22:50that. And what I really like about
- 22:52this sort of creating your own like eating around the world at
- 22:56home is that this can involve everybody, right?
- 22:59If you want to have your whole family, your your kids can pick
- 23:03snacks, then they can help with the prep or maybe not.
- 23:06Depending on how your kids are, they may need you need to be
- 23:09doing a Disney themed craft in the other room.
- 23:12Well, why did you wear preparing the sacks for the safety ball
- 23:15involved? Just depend on where your kiddos
- 23:17are at and how destructive they are in the kitchen, you know,
- 23:20but it really can be like a very fun, you know, Family Day
- 23:23because they can pick out the snacks and then you can get them
- 23:26hyped as they're going shopping and they're picking out their
- 23:28own things, right? Like it just really could be a
- 23:30fun bonding experience. And then you can just end it by,
- 23:34you know, eating snacks and watching a movie together or
- 23:36what have. You so yeah, we love a good
- 23:39themed snack themed Disney movie night, right?
- 23:43Like that is so much fun to be able to theme and you don't have
- 23:46to go all out. Like you don't have to plan this
- 23:49five course dinner that's all themed.
- 23:51Like you can literally just pick your favorite park snack and
- 23:55watch a Disney movie or, you know, find a way to theme it or
- 23:59what we like to do things like you know how I get the
- 24:02confectionery at Magic Kingdom. You can do like the create your
- 24:05own popcorn. We'll do that where you just
- 24:07like we throw some chocolate syrup, some M&M's, some
- 24:09marshmallows, like whatever the kids want.
- 24:12Like we just throw it all out there and they make their own
- 24:15popcorn. Whatever I want, because now I'm
- 24:18doing that popcorn. Yeah.
- 24:20So I this never occurred to me. I don't know how so.
- 24:25'Cause you always like the classic like movie theater
- 24:27buttered pop I. Just established with the
- 24:30flavor. Call guys our guys a great
- 24:32length semester, my favorite and like considered branching out.
- 24:37My favorite though is like you can make it like a trail mix
- 24:41style, so you can do like popcorn, pretzels, M&M's, like
- 24:45any of that, like like peanuts, any of that kind of stuff too.
- 24:49And sweet, yeah. Yeah.
- 24:51And then you put, you do like chocolate syrup on it.
- 24:53You can get because you got to think it's like ice cream
- 24:55topping. So it's like peanut butter
- 24:56syrup. You can do marshmallow fluff
- 24:58with it. You can do white chocolate.
- 25:00Like you have so many options. I can have more popcorn.
- 25:04Yes, I got I got to go make some Smurf popcorn.
- 25:07This has been a great populator. Bye.
- 25:11That's it. Right, but like any of that is
- 25:14super fun and especially like if you want to go the extra mile,
- 25:18jump on Amazon, buy a cute little container or little sets
- 25:22of reusable popcorn tins that you can put it in because part
- 25:25of the fun with, especially if you get into the confectionery
- 25:27is having that lid on it so you can shake it up and really mix
- 25:30it up in there, right. So you want to give yourself,
- 25:33you know, or buy cute little Mickey Mouse reusable popcorn
- 25:36containers or anything like that if you really want to go the
- 25:39extra mile. But like, also just grab your
- 25:42favorite popcorn bowl or cereal bowl out of the cabinet and just
- 25:45make your make your popcorn that way.
- 25:47Like, you don't have to be take it.
- 25:49Yeah, yeah. And like, your kids don't care.
- 25:52They just want to eat the popcorn.
- 25:53They don't care what it what it looks like or what it the
- 25:55container looks like. Like that's more for your
- 25:57aesthetic as the adult in the situation.
- 26:00But like, your kids don't care. I'm telling you right now, they
- 26:03don't care. Your kids aren't scrolling on
- 26:05Pinterest. Sewing mother dearest.
- 26:08I need the most aesthetic popcorn bucket or I they'll be
- 26:11mopped, you know? Like it's not.
- 26:14It's just simply. They're just like.
- 26:15Oh sick, I get popcorn with chocolate syrup so.
- 26:19Right. Oh, like.
- 26:20I think there is, especially with like, you know, we were
- 26:23talking about the event of social media and everything.
- 26:25You think there's a lot of pressure that people put on
- 26:27themselves to make like the perfect Pinterest Disney night.
- 26:30Like, yeah, you don't have to do that parents.
- 26:32You can your kids are so stoked if you tell them that you are
- 26:36recreating the confectionery popcorn.
- 26:38They're they are, they will. Doesn't matter what bullets in
- 26:40you know what I mean? Yeah, I think I think there's a
- 26:42lot of pressure to you know, like you could do those things,
- 26:46right? There's no one if you want to go
- 26:48the extra mile if you yourself are feeling like I want to have
- 26:52the popcorn out of the legit containers, totally fine.
- 26:56But also don't put too much pressure on yourself, right?
- 26:59Some of these things are they're really just to bring you joy and
- 27:03the moment it's putting more pressure on you, it becomes not
- 27:05fun, right? And that's what really the theme
- 27:07parks in Disney are about is fun.
- 27:09So, you know, just make sure that as you're doing these
- 27:11things, you're having a good time and eating your body weight
- 27:15in chocolate covered powder. Yes, well, and it's about
- 27:18bringing the magic home, right? So like if it's not magical
- 27:21because you're stressed out about it, like what are, what
- 27:23are we doing here? Friends?
- 27:25What are we doing here? Friends, what are we doing?
- 27:28Not magical, Tragical. It's all around us and it's not
- 27:31magical. Yeah.
- 27:33So, OK, so while we're creating our create your own
- 27:36confectionery popcorn, there may be some some other ambiance
- 27:42theming things we could, you know, add to to the the vibe.
- 27:46What do you got for us, Jess? Yes, you've got your Disney
- 27:49sense, you've got your snack. Now we're going to recreate the
- 27:52vibes of Disney, right? So one of our favorite ways to
- 27:55do this is through various like Disney parks soundtracks and
- 27:58playlists on streaming services. There are definitely like high
- 28:04def walkthroughs of the parks and attractions and things like
- 28:07that. So it definitely creates that,
- 28:09you know, walking down Main Street or walking through
- 28:11Adventureland or what have you there were.
- 28:13Islands of adventure I listen to the ions of adventure port, the
- 28:16port of entry noises very often, so it's so soothing.
- 28:20I really a good one. I listen to the old Epcot Plaza
- 28:27like interventions. I love new Epcot too, don't get
- 28:31me wrong. Epcot, all of that just like
- 28:33slaps at the entrance area. But the old interventions,
- 28:37that's what I listen to a lot. 100% and.
- 28:41It's a pretty good to like remember like that nostalgic
- 28:44like feeling like being a kid going to the parks and things
- 28:46like that. Things that no longer exist in
- 28:48the parks, you can probably find those as well.
- 28:51So Kate has a Spotify playlist for Big Fender Mountain, Jungle
- 28:54Cruise, Adventureland and more on her profiles.
- 28:56If you search Disney Sister on on Spotify you can find those
- 29:00and then Party and Lyme both have great YouTube videos to
- 29:03relive the different aspects of the parks as well.
- 29:06Thanks Perk and Lyme. Yeah, I and I will Link.
- 29:08Oh, you made hearts on your screen.
- 29:10That was fancy. You do it again.
- 29:14How fun. I can't do it, but I'm going to.
- 29:17It's still cute. I will link the all of those
- 29:21profiles and playlists down in our our show notes.
- 29:25For those of you that are listening afterwards to
- 29:27apparently you guys just get the fun little screen hearts.
- 29:29Yeah, FYI, if you're not watching us and you're only
- 29:32listening to us, you're missing out on the cute little screen
- 29:34heart that have just appeared on Duck and Justice screen.
- 29:38So find us on YouTube anyway. What?
- 29:40What else can we find on YouTube or other places to increase our
- 29:45Disney ambience? So.
- 29:47If you're looking for a fun Disney log, there are YouTube
- 29:51videos that have different like theme park inspired seasonal
- 29:54soundtracks. So I have a bunch of these saved
- 29:57on my computer at work for just like those days when it's like a
- 30:00struggle blast to get there and I just like pull it up.
- 30:02Like you're looking out a window at Main Street and there's like
- 30:05snowflakes and a fireplace turning.
- 30:08And then just like Christmas music, that sounds like the
- 30:11music on Main Street, right? There's a Halloween themed one.
- 30:14There's all kinds like they're definitely like a on generator
- 30:16and I feel kind of bad about it sometimes.
- 30:18But so you just need the magic sometimes.
- 30:21So there's a whole bunch of those that you can find on
- 30:23YouTube. And then Disney Plus does also
- 30:26have like official Disney logs. So there is a Simpsons one, the
- 30:30Grand Californian, the Jonas Christmas movie and then an
- 30:33Arendelle Yule log so you have those as well.
- 30:37To give you some Disney. Magic we we watch those a lot.
- 30:41The Yule logs at Christmas time. It's easy to go on in the
- 30:44background, like Christmas activities, just have something
- 30:48on the TV in the background. The Arendelle 1 is super fun for
- 30:52Frozen because Olaf will just like occasionally scamper across
- 30:55the scene. I love those kinds where it's
- 30:59like broken up by a little activity in the background or.
- 31:01Whatnot And then Disney Parks also has a parks collection on
- 31:06there. Or did I say Disney Parks?
- 31:07Disney Plus has a cuz Alex. Too many P words.
- 31:14Too many. Disney Plus has a parks
- 31:16collection that includes a lot of behind the scenes
- 31:19documentaries and movies inspired by the Disney parks.
- 31:22There are also ride throughs of a bunch of attractions like the
- 31:25Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean.
- 31:27And then there's also the Imagineering series that kind of
- 31:30goes behind the scenes of the making of some of the rides and
- 31:32like the whole history and everything.
- 31:35So that's a lot of fun. You get to like see interviews
- 31:36with like the Imagineers and stuff like that.
- 31:39Yeah, a lot of that is new. I love that they added, they
- 31:42added a lot of the point of view videos in like honor of
- 31:46Disneyland's 70th over the last year, which like I love that
- 31:49they're doing that. Like, don't get me wrong, a lot
- 31:51of this exists on YouTube also that you can go and find
- 31:54different point of views and things.
- 31:56But it's so fun to see Disney kind of jumping on that
- 32:00bandwagon because Disney's going to have access to other
- 32:03attractions that live streamers and Youtubers are not supposed
- 32:08to be recording, you know? So it's fun to see Disney
- 32:12putting out their own version of that to an extent.
- 32:15And then real quick, if we just plug our friends over at this
- 32:19story with Kirk and Kate, they also have the perfect podcast to
- 32:23listen to if oh. You make fireworks go off on
- 32:27your side. What is happening?
- 32:28I mean what? Did you just do, I guess the
- 32:30double thumbs up in it? What?
- 32:33Hi, how did you do that? There it goes again, guys.
- 32:39What's happening? I don't know.
- 32:41Can I make it happen on mine? Why is this?
- 32:45Oh. Yeah.
- 32:47Why is it only you? On the phone.
- 32:52Oh, maybe, I don't know. Mobile, yeah.
- 32:56It probably can. It like has like the the virtual
- 33:00like it can like that You can see what you're doing.
- 33:02Anyway, we're offering you back, guy.
- 33:04Yeah, literally. Oh my gosh.
- 33:07Literally. Anyway.
- 33:11I'm listening to some theme park history, some ride attraction
- 33:14history. Kurt and Kate are wonderful, so
- 33:17definitely go support them, yeah.
- 33:19They are in the middle of a Pirates of the Caribbean series
- 33:21as we're recording this right now, but they've done Jungle
- 33:24Cruise, they've done Big Thunder Mountain, they've done Haunted
- 33:26Mansion. Any if you are like a person
- 33:29that wants the details, that's where you can find them.
- 33:34So highly recommend that. And now ducks just making
- 33:38fireworks go off in their background.
- 33:41We're doing great over here. I'm locked in.
- 33:44We're. Doing great.
- 33:46Disney Plus also has some other kind of ambiance style videos as
- 33:50well. They have a whole category on
- 33:53Disney Plus that scenescapes and ambiance and it's got just these
- 33:57really great videos that you can get.
- 33:59They've got a Hopper themed one, they've got an Ahsoka one that's
- 34:02got little low cats walking around.
- 34:04They've got a hot different Haunted Mansion ones, they've
- 34:06got Galaxy sounds, they've got a ton of Star Wars ones over
- 34:09there. The Disney Sunrise series, 10
- 34:13out of 10 recommend. It is so magical and calming.
- 34:17And Cassie and our live chat is shouting that one out too.
- 34:20I love, I love that one, especially for me because of the
- 34:26way my schedule works. I like get up and take my kids
- 34:28to school and then I come home and like drink my coffee and eat
- 34:30my breakfast. I'll throw one of those on while
- 34:33I'm doing that. It's such a nice way to wake up
- 34:36in the morning and they have them for all four of the Disney
- 34:39World parks. Highly recommend that one.
- 34:42Another one that we love is Dory's Reef Cam.
- 34:45And this is another one of those where it's just like an aquarium
- 34:49ambiance. But then every once in a while
- 34:52there is a character from Finding Dory that'll just like
- 34:55swim across the screen. And it's like so cute, so much
- 34:59fun. And a lot of these are like
- 35:01several hours long. The sunrise ones are a little
- 35:03bit shorter, but like the Dory's Reef Cam, I think it's like a
- 35:06three hour cycle. So it's fantastic.
- 35:11So they have tons of those that are super, super fun to do.
- 35:15If you are a Disney Plus subscriber, obviously that does
- 35:19come with a fee, unfortunately, but a lot of these similar style
- 35:22ones are also available just like on YouTube also.
- 35:26And Speaking of YouTube, something that my family really
- 35:29likes to do is we will do like a plan our perfect park day and
- 35:33then we go and watch it on YouTube.
- 35:35So like we will plan what park we want to go to.
- 35:38We'll pick a show or like a fireworks and then we'll pick
- 35:41like four or five different attractions that we can find,
- 35:43like ride point of view videos for.
- 35:46And then we grab our snack or whatever, you know, and we, we
- 35:51come together and we sit and watch, watch them as a family.
- 35:54And we either chat about like our previous like trip that we
- 35:58went on and we're like, oh, remember when we did this?
- 36:00Or we talked about like, oh, on our next trip, I really want to
- 36:02do this. Like we didn't get to do this or
- 36:04like, Oh, I did this the first time on my last trip.
- 36:06I want to do it again. So like we, you know, when we're
- 36:09in between trips, that's a really fun way to kind of bridge
- 36:11the gap because my kiddos are old enough and they've been a
- 36:14couple times. So they like they're very aware
- 36:17of what is in the parks and what is like available to them.
- 36:20So that is a really fun way for them to be able to do that.
- 36:23And sometimes we'll branch out and they'll want to pick like a
- 36:26Disneyland stuff. Like I cannot tell you how many
- 36:28times we have watched the magic happens per 1000 times probably.
- 36:34The choice, at least. To work right so like sometimes
- 36:38they're like well we know that you know Disney World has these
- 36:41what does Disneyland have what does Tokyo have and a lot of
- 36:45that stuff again is all available on YouTube.
- 36:47We've watched Disney Cruise Line videos of like different shows
- 36:52that they have we've watched fireworks shows we watch a lot
- 36:56of Disneyland Paris. They have the cutest fall parade
- 37:00at Disneyland Paris. It is one of my all time
- 37:02favorites. It's got poo and friends in
- 37:04these adorable little outfits and it's all like, Oh my gosh,
- 37:07duck, you need to look it up. It is it is their equivalent of
- 37:11like their Halloween parade, but it's very like Harvesty fall
- 37:14themed. But they also have a really
- 37:16great they're like Haunted Mansion Section 2 where Mickey
- 37:20comes out of their Haunted Mansion float like top tier.
- 37:23I love it. It's so much fun.
- 37:27Oh no, I'm, I'm just going to have to go to Disneyland.
- 37:29Paris for my. Salt the other option here,
- 37:34obviously. Obviously, and during the fall
- 37:37when this is all happening, you just you have to how it goes.
- 37:41You have to. So yes, Needless to say, there
- 37:43are tons of different ways that you can use and utilize YouTube
- 37:47to plan a trip for fun, do some imaginary park exploring.
- 37:52Sometimes we even go back and just watch, you know, different
- 37:55live streamers that will repost. They're like walking around the
- 37:57parks. And my oldest really likes to do
- 38:00that because he is my map kiddo, which you've heard me talk about
- 38:03out on mom St. before. He loves to know the maps and
- 38:07know where everything is. And so he likes to like quiz
- 38:10himself as he's watching these different like videos on YouTube
- 38:14where he's like, OK, if we're going this way, then this ride
- 38:18is over here and you know those types of things.
- 38:20So he likes to to do those also. So lots of different ways you
- 38:23can utilize YouTube for bringing some magic home.
- 38:26I was got a. Better sense of direction I ever
- 38:28will. But you know what, I am here for
- 38:31it as a mom because when he is old enough and I am comfortable
- 38:36enough to let him navigate things in the park by himself, I
- 38:39have 0 concern that he is going to get lost.
- 38:43Absolutely. He's got a damn pet.
- 38:45Yeah. And like, yes, obviously we have
- 38:47phones that can navigate us, you know, but he's he's not even
- 38:51going to need them by the time he gets there.
- 38:53And that like I love that as a parent who is a helicopter
- 38:57parent and gets a lot of anxiety over not being able to
- 39:00physically touch my children at all times because I need them
- 39:03close enough to me. Especially in the Disney parks.
- 39:05I am here for him being obsessed with maps and knowing where
- 39:09everything is on property. So extremely fair.
- 39:13Great skill to have in an emergency.
- 39:14Absolutely. Yes, for sure.
- 39:17OK. I think that is kind of our
- 39:19little ambiance suggestions. I think we've got one more
- 39:23section. You talk about if you are handy.
- 39:29Or crafty. We're terrible at crafts and
- 39:33just like to do that. Or just like a little activity
- 39:39you can, there's tons of crafts and park activities that you can
- 39:43do at home, right? A lot of these things are
- 39:45thankfully very recreatable. And it's definitely a good
- 39:49jumping off point for if you are really missing park things.
- 39:53All things Disney or even all things Universal.
- 39:56You know, I think we focus a lot on Disney here, but there are
- 39:59even things that you can think of, you know, to sort of bring
- 40:01the craft world into or Universal into the craft world.
- 40:06So again, we're just going to pivot back to Disney because
- 40:08that's where most of these like family friendly crafts and
- 40:11things, things that will translate back to, you know, to
- 40:15being able to do at home really come from.
- 40:17But you can't adopt this for Universal or any other theme
- 40:20park, you know, Hershey or Six Flags or whatever is your Home
- 40:23Park. You can absolutely do it for
- 40:25this too. So one of the things that I
- 40:30think is a super cute idea is bringing home a a park scavenger
- 40:35hunt, right? So Remy's Hide and Squeak is the
- 40:38first one that came to mind because I also love to do Remy's
- 40:41Squeak. Fame.
- 40:43An activity and I love a trinket, as we've established.
- 40:46Right, you love Ratatouille. I love Ratatouille.
- 40:48Ratatouille is I think my favorite Pixar movie.
- 40:50Love Ratatouille and so hide and squeak.
- 40:53It's pretty easy to recreate something like that at home, you
- 40:57know, for your kiddos or if Jess wants to do it for me.
- 41:00It will not be upset. That might be a hint, Jess.
- 41:04That might be might be a hint. Our wedding anniversary is
- 41:08coming up in a couple days. I'm just throwing it out there
- 41:12all all. Duck Needs is a build your own
- 41:15popcorn bar, Ratatouille on the TV and a scavenger hunt.
- 41:20Sold. Really true that.
- 41:22Yeah, like I know you're saying it as a joke, but I am very
- 41:26simple. I truly would be thrilled.
- 41:31But but yeah, so hide and squeak is a pretty easy one.
- 41:34Or any offshoot of that, right? If there's a particular
- 41:36character that your kiddo loves or that you love, you know that
- 41:40really you'd think would be good to incorporate it, right?
- 41:42You can just make it a fun little scavenger hunt.
- 41:44Bonus points if you dress up the toys that you're hiding around
- 41:47the house in Little Chef outfits or get in like little food
- 41:50activities, right? Like give the power Ranger a
- 41:53little plastic eggplant to pretend like he's chopping it up
- 41:56for whatever, you know, so you can really lean into or not into
- 42:01this theming as much as you'd like, you know.
- 42:04And then of course, at the end of completing the scavenger hunt
- 42:06it, you can give a nice little Disney themed treat to your
- 42:09kiddo. Or if you are just and you want
- 42:12to, that's my pop. My popcorn bar is the treat that
- 42:15I get at the end of the scavenger hunt.
- 42:16However you want to work that into your routine.
- 42:18That's a very at home doable activity.
- 42:21Now I need to know if I can go on Amazon and buy tiny Little
- 42:25Chef hats for all of my kids. Like stuffed animals.
- 42:29I'm sure you can. They're I'm 100.
- 42:30Percent positive of that and I have.
- 42:34We have so many figurines and toy little collectible toys
- 42:38around here. Yep, and think that Lego Darth
- 42:41Maul would look really cute. I was thinking like Funko pop
- 42:49size. Oh my gosh.
- 42:51Oh he is like Funko pop size. OK he's one of those like big
- 42:53head. Yep perfect.
- 42:55I love this. You need like AI don't know 4
- 42:58inch chef hat to stick on top of his head.
- 43:02The possibilities are endless. Endless you have such a lovely
- 43:06collection of characters that just need chef hats we have.
- 43:10Trinkets. I think they're the the trinkets
- 43:13yearn to be. Chefs.
- 43:16It want to be leave of money. They want to be little chefs.
- 43:20This, this, this is an excellent plan.
- 43:23I, I'm, I'm here for this. Oh, Anna says.
- 43:25A black chef's hat For Dark Maul, that is.
- 43:29Yes. The on scene 100% the Sith Lord
- 43:32took. I'm now just like envisioning
- 43:38him in an apron cooking in his kitchen, and we've taken this
- 43:41too far. OK, what else do you have for
- 43:46us? So it is perhaps dressing up
- 43:49Darth Maul as the executive chef at your book restaurant is not
- 43:54what you want to do. You can do.
- 43:56There's many, I think we've talked about this before that
- 43:59there are, you know, like little paint and sip type classes that
- 44:03they offer at different Disney resorts and things like that.
- 44:07I think that's going to be our next like little Disney craft.
- 44:10There's like 100,000 painting tutorials online.
- 44:13So you can have like a little family activity.
- 44:15That's a pretty low bar of entry for, you know, you know, like a
- 44:19perhaps a more budget conscious situation.
- 44:21You know, you got a couple canvases, a couple brushes.
- 44:23There's lots and lots of pretty easy Disney painting tutorials
- 44:28that you can, you know, Emily or even just like a for like a
- 44:30kiddo's birthday party that you can get together and do right.
- 44:34So they also sell 100,000 Disney themed craft kits.
- 44:37So if you want to spray your, your grand Floridian room spray
- 44:43and have your sunrise at Epcot going in the background and then
- 44:47you're, and then you're going to do your little Disney feeding
- 44:50bracelet situation craft kit that I saw at Barnes and Noble.
- 44:55You know what I mean? There's I think crafts are a
- 44:58fairly accessible way to get yourself into the Disney theme,
- 45:02the Disney spirit and I'm all of also the universal properties
- 45:07I'm sure have equal and equal counterparts, especially how to
- 45:10train your dragon in Harry Potter for sure and.
- 45:14That sounds like heaven. That sounds just such a lovely
- 45:19way. Well and Disney also has so many
- 45:21of their like animation Academy videos are available on YouTube.
- 45:25Like I have found whole playlists of those depending on
- 45:29how difficult or easy you want to make them, like how to draw
- 45:32the different Disney characters. I bet you you can find Universal
- 45:36and other IP ones online as well.
- 45:39So tons of different options with that.
- 45:41I actually did something really similar to what you were talking
- 45:44about with Remy's hide and squeak with my kids during the
- 45:47pandemic. We talked about that a little
- 45:48bit earlier where a lot of this stuff really kind of amped up
- 45:52during that time. But I printed out little
- 45:55pictures of Mickey and I am a nerd and I have a laminator.
- 45:58So I laminated them and then I would take them and I would just
- 46:02like like masking tape or painters tape, stick them all
- 46:05around my house. And my kids were younger than,
- 46:07you know, that was, gosh, over six years ago, which is like,
- 46:11wild to think about. I know I don't want to talk
- 46:13about it, but they were tiny at the time.
- 46:17So I would make some of them easier for my, you know, my
- 46:19youngest was not even 2 yet. And so it was like putting them.
- 46:23I know, I know. That the factory was a little
- 46:26jar to me. Yeah, anyway, But I would take
- 46:30the whole point of this story is not to make me feel sad and in
- 46:34my feels about how old my children are, but I would, I
- 46:38would take the Mickey's and I would stick them around the
- 46:42house. And then it was like a scavenger
- 46:44hunt. And so we called it the head
- 46:46Mickey game. And then I would just like keep
- 46:47them in a Ziploc bag and they would bring them to me anytime
- 46:49they wanted me to do it. And we just like, OK, Yep, let's
- 46:51go. And sometimes we would do it
- 46:53outside, like it was nice enough outside in the backyard.
- 46:56We would do it out there. You know, they were.
- 46:57And they were just little tiny laminated Mickey's that I just
- 47:00found online and printed and laminated for them.
- 47:03And it was like a super fun little way for them to get some
- 47:06energy out and for it to be like fun in Disney themed.
- 47:09So yeah. No, that's a good one.
- 47:12Yeah, which is crazy because that was also before her first
- 47:16trip, Like she had not been to Disney yet when this was all
- 47:19when we were doing this, because we were supposed to go in like
- 47:26April of 2020. Obviously that didn't happen.
- 47:31And then we pushed it to November and we were still kind
- 47:35of like. Maybe not.
- 47:38A2 week lockdown that then turned into right seven years.
- 47:43Right. And so then we eventually
- 47:44finally took her April of 2021. So it's like almost a whole year
- 47:50after we were supposed to go with her.
- 47:53So yeah, luckily she was still under 3, so that that worked out
- 47:58in our favor. But yeah, so hidden Mickeys or
- 48:02hidden whoever's you want to to do.
- 48:05Oh chef, that's whatever. Or tiny chef huts or you know,
- 48:09whatever fun little things you can come up with if you're and a
- 48:14lot of these I feel like because again, Ohio, I live in Ohio, it
- 48:18is cold here and where you guys love it also is cold.
- 48:21A lot of these are fabulous during the winter.
- 48:24If you have like you just need something to break up the
- 48:28monotony of being stuck inside because it's below 0 outside and
- 48:31you like physically can't be outside because it's just like
- 48:33not safe. These are fantastic different
- 48:37things that you can do with your kiddos, the crafts, the drawing,
- 48:40the paint by number or whatever different Disney or Universal
- 48:45craft activity event you can come up with fabulous for winter
- 48:51activities in the cold. If I may also recommend I I
- 48:55meant spoke this in the notes so that's my fault.
- 48:57But there is also if you have a kiddo who's a little bit older
- 49:02or you yourself are interested in like model building, they
- 49:07sell a lot of theme parks. I haven't really seen it for
- 49:11Disney, but but a lot of like other theme parks like Hershey
- 49:15and Dorney and Six Flags, they sell these things called nano
- 49:18coasters, which are really great.
- 49:23They're like scale replica recreations that are like
- 49:26tabletop size. So they're usually no longer
- 49:29than like 6 inches. And you can basically it's like
- 49:33a metal recreation of like a tabletop metal recreation of, of
- 49:37whatever the coaster is that you've purchased.
- 49:39I really like to do them. That's like our tradition where
- 49:42it Whenever we go to a new theme park, I will pick one to several
- 49:46of my. Favorite.
- 49:48Of my favorite coasters at that park and then I will buy the the
- 49:52nano coaster models and I'll take them home to be able to
- 49:55like recreate them. I have a little shot may shock
- 49:58you. I have a shelf full of things,
- 50:01but we have, I actually just got the most recent one from our,
- 50:04our home local park, the Jersey double Coaster.
- 50:08And so I, I completely forgot to mention that in our notes here,
- 50:11but that's a really good, you know, activity if you're looking
- 50:14for something to even just like Stow away for a rainy day for
- 50:17yourself or for your kiddos. To let in like ride vehicles
- 50:21that you can build, you don't really do them but like it's in
- 50:23the same. Session of the Labra theme park.
- 50:25I have to pull my oldest away from those at Hershey because he
- 50:29wanted all of them and I was just like, child.
- 50:32These are like $40 a piece. That is why we do our pass
- 50:36holder discount at yeah and also now that Cedar Fair.
- 50:41Right. So it extends almost everywhere
- 50:44except for Hershey. Except for Hershey.
- 50:46Yep, Yep, Yep. It sure doesn't count at
- 50:50Hershey. Nope.
- 50:52But yeah, see, he he we geared him to pick something else
- 50:56because I said this is not in our budget currently.
- 51:00I'm so sorry to break it to you, but he was like desperate for
- 51:05coasters. And then we went to Carowinds
- 51:07and the same thing happened. Because he is a building kiddo.
- 51:11He loves to build sets and Legos and see how things are put
- 51:17together. And he wanted the little replica
- 51:19and he did really great. He's like, well, this is my
- 51:21favorite coaster here, so this is the one I want.
- 51:23And I was like, dude, I hear you, but I'm so sorry.
- 51:27Good try I commend argument say listen, they always do like end
- 51:32of season sales for these like you can find them online.
- 51:35You know obviously that's you're not negotiating with a child
- 51:38right in my that's not going to happen.
- 51:40It just doesn't be a because the kiddo does not understand wait
- 51:43for Black Friday sale. Fully understand that I as an
- 51:46adult don't understand wait for a Black Friday sale.
- 51:48So fully understand, but you have you know, of of interest to
- 51:53you specifically because I know I know you kiddo loves a Lego
- 51:57set and this sure is us a metal Lego set.
- 52:01They are, if I can just go off on a side tension here, they're
- 52:04kind of tricky. They are not as you think they
- 52:07are. Those directions are horrendous.
- 52:09If I could give one piece of feedback to Nano coasters, your
- 52:13directions are horrendous. They are all.
- 52:16Right, sorry, then I then I have I have no chance of being able
- 52:20to help him do that so well and you.
- 52:22Have to FaceTime me and we'll work through it.
- 52:25And he's like not quite in the state where he will be OK with
- 52:30putting something together to display it.
- 52:33So we have had to weed through his Legos and we really only
- 52:39have their three in one sets anymore because he can build,
- 52:44take apart, rebuild something different, take apart, rebuild
- 52:46something different, take apart, look online because they have a
- 52:49fourth secret one that you can look up online that you can
- 52:52build too. So like I know Yep.
- 52:55And so. So it's it's not necessarily
- 52:58directly from Lego, but they also have like the Mocs, the
- 53:02people who will put together efforts from the kits if you're
- 53:06really so impressive. My favorite is the guy who tries
- 53:09to figure out how to make a money and Falcon out of every
- 53:11set. Yeah, so funny.
- 53:13It's so I knew it. He can always.
- 53:16It's the most impressive thing I've ever seen.
- 53:18It's so. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:20But so right now he's really like the three in one sets are
- 53:22what he pretty much does those and he's gotten recently into
- 53:26like the Mario interactive Lego sets that have like the little
- 53:30battery powder powder battery powered little.
- 53:33Hopefully not the powder. The little battery powered
- 53:38figures that go with them. So building a little coaster to
- 53:42then display. We're not, we're not quite there
- 53:45yet. We need another like year maybe.
- 53:47And then I think we'll be OK with that, which gives me a year
- 53:50to give him way more shelving in his room.
- 53:55Because once that, let me tell you from experience, once that
- 53:58starts, it's not stopping. It's not stopping.
- 54:00But thankfully Anna posters and even the little wooden ride
- 54:05vehicles pretty small as as collectibles and their required
- 54:09space go, those are pretty small.
- 54:10So I. Wonder if there are coasters at
- 54:13Disney that have those. I don't feel like I've ever seen
- 54:16a nano coaster, and maybe Disney doesn't because they don't want
- 54:19to partner with an outside company to do it, you know what
- 54:21I mean? No, I think Coaster Dynamics,
- 54:24which is the company that makes and they also make the same the
- 54:27wooden ones. That's why they're displayed
- 54:28together. I think they partner basically
- 54:31with everybody who is not Disney because they've been they do
- 54:35they do Busch Gardens. I know that I got Pantheon from
- 54:39Busch Gardens. Oh my God, dude, Pantheon such a
- 54:41big coaster that it that might be my favorite coaster of all
- 54:44time. It's so good.
- 54:46We've gotten them from Six Flags.
- 54:48We've gotten them from Dorney. So they they have them at pretty
- 54:52much everywhere. I think it's only Disney and
- 54:54Universal they don't partner with.
- 54:55That makes sense, honestly. Like that's kind of what I was
- 54:57anticipating. So you know, so it goes, you
- 55:01know, anyway, thank you guys all so much for being here for this
- 55:06episode. We hope that some of the things
- 55:08that we suggested to you help you to recreate that theme park
- 55:12magic at home. Obviously nothing beats being
- 55:17able to go to the parks, but sometimes our bank accounts and
- 55:22timing prohibit us from being able to do that.
- 55:25So if you guys have other things that you like to do at home or
- 55:29tips on how you like to bring the magic home, we would love to
- 55:32hear from you. You can always reach out to
- 55:34usmomstreetusa@gmail.com or at Momstreet USA on several social
- 55:39media platforms, including our Patreon, which is a really great
- 55:42place to find us over there. Coming up next on Oh look,
- 55:47fireworks again. Coming up next on Mom St.
- 55:51USA, we are revisiting rope drop strategy and Lightning Lane
- 55:55strategy for the Disney parks. So that will be what is on the
- 56:00agenda for next time. But before we officially
- 56:03finished today, Duck and Jess any last minute thoughts before
- 56:07we wrap up? No, I think we've covered pretty
- 56:10much everything. I hope that these tips help make
- 56:14you feel like even when you can't go to the go to whatever
- 56:17your favorite theme park may be, that you can take a little bit
- 56:20of it home with you and it can kind of tide you over until your
- 56:23next trip. And I'm also really curious to
- 56:26hear what other people do, right?
- 56:27I mean, this is just like what we personally do.
- 56:30So I'm, I'm sure there's like 110 things that other people do
- 56:33that we just didn't come up with.
- 56:35So I'm really curious and I would love to incorporate your
- 56:38ideas into my likes, but please share them.
- 56:42Yes, please. We would love to hear from you.
- 56:45But for now, thank you guys so much for being here.
- 56:48Thank you for always supporting and liking and commenting and
- 56:51sharing all of our stuff. If you've got a friend who needs
- 56:54some theme park magic in their life, send this episode to them.
- 56:58You never know, it might help them get out of their Disney
- 57:01Blues or Universal Blues until their next episode.
- 57:05But thank you guys so much for being here and we will see you
- 57:07on the next episode of Mobstreet USA.
