January 15 - Wisdom That Recognizes Good · Bible Chat Devotional

Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 15th.
• 0:11
Wise up for real life. Have you ever looked back and
• 0:14
thought, I really wish I had listened?
• 0:16
Maybe someone warned you about a relationship that would end
• 0:19
badly, a habit that would catch up with you, or a shortcut that
• 0:22
seemed harmless at the time. In the moment, advice can feel
• 0:26
annoying or unnecessary. But later, when the consequences
• 0:30
hit, wisdom suddenly makes a lot more sense.
• 0:33
Real life has a way of teaching hard lessons.
• 0:36
When we ignore good counsel in Proverbs chapter 4, wisdom isn't
• 0:40
presented as boring or optional. It's urgent.
• 0:43
It's personal. Verse 6 says do not forsake her,
• 0:46
and she will keep you. Love her and she will guard you.
• 0:49
Wisdom isn't trying to control you, it's trying to protect you.
• 0:53
Like guardrails on a dangerous Rd.
• 0:55
Wisdom keeps you from veering off into choices that can cost
• 0:58
  you peace, integrity, or direction.
• 1:00
God knows the terrain ahead even when you don't, and His wisdom
• 1:04
is one of the main ways He keeps you safe.
• 1:07
Jesus connects this directly to real life in Matthew chapter 12
• 1:10
verse 35 when he says the good person out of his good treasure
• 1:14
brings forth good and the evil person out of his evil treasure
• 1:17
brings forth evil. In other words, what you store
• 1:21
up inside eventually spills out. Your words, reactions,
• 1:24
attitudes, and decisions all flow from what's filling your
• 1:27
heart. If you're constantly feeding on
• 1:29
negativity, compromise, or empty trends, that's what will show up
• 1:33
in your life. But when you fill your heart
• 1:35
with God's truth, wisdom, and perspective, something different
• 1:39
overflows. Wisdom isn't just about knowing
• 1:41
the right thing. It's about loving the right
• 1:44
  thing. Proverbs says wisdom guards
• 1:46
those who love her. That means choosing God's voice
• 1:49
even when it's quieter than the noise around you.
• 1:51
It means listening when Scripture challenges you, when
• 1:54
godly advice nudges you, and when the Holy Spirit gently
• 1:58
warns you. Wisdom often speaks before
• 2:00
trouble arrives. The question is whether we'll
• 2:03
pay attention. Real wisdom prepares you for
• 2:05
real life. It shapes how you handle
• 2:08
pressure, conflict, temptation, and decisions that don't come
• 2:11
with clear answers. It helps you pause before you
• 2:14
speak, choose before you react, and think long term instead of
• 2:18
living for the moment. When you hold on to wisdom, it
• 2:20
holds on to you. You don't have to learn
• 2:22
everything the hard way. God is offering wisdom freely,
• 2:26
lovingly, and daily. Don't just hear it, hold on to
• 2:29
it. Let it guard your heart and
• 2:31
  guide your steps. Let's pray.
• 2:33
Heavenly Father, help me not just listen to Your wisdom, but
• 2:36
truly value it. Teach me to love what You love
• 2:39
and to fill my heart with Your truth.
• 2:41
Guard my mind, my words and my choices so that my life reflects
• 2:45
Your goodness. Keep me from foolish paths and
• 2:48
lead me in wisdom that protects and shapes my future in Jesus
• 2:52
name, Amen. What if the ache you feel for
• 2:55
more is actually God calling you deeper?

chapter 4 verses 1 to 9 World English Bible.
• 4:19
Listen sons to a father's instruction.
• 4:22
Pay attention and no understanding, for I give you
• 4:25
sound learning. Don't forsake my law, for I was
• 4:28
a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my
• 4:31
mother. He taught me and said to me, let
• 4:34
your heart retain my words, Keep my commandments and live.
• 4:37
Get wisdom, get understanding. Don't forget and don't deviate
• 4:41
from the words of my mouth. Don't forsake her and she will
• 4:44
preserve you. Love her and she will keep you.
• 4:47
  Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom.
• 4:50
Yes, though it costs all your possessions.
• 4:52
Get understanding. Esteem her and she will exalt
• 4:55
you. She will bring you to honor.
• 4:56
When you embrace her, she will give to your head a Garland of
• 4:59
grace. She will deliver a crown of
• 5:01
splendor to you. Matthew chapter 12 World English
• 5:04
Bible At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the
• 5:08
grain fields. His disciples were hungry and
• 5:11
began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.
• 5:13
But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said to him, Behold, your
• 5:17
disciples do what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.
• 5:20
But he said to them, Haven't you read what David did when he was
• 5:23
hungry, and those who were with him, how he entered into God's
• 5:26
house and ate the show bread, which was not lawful for him to
• 5:30
eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?
• 5:33
Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath day the
• 5:36
priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless?
• 5:39
But I tell you that one greater than the temple is here.
• 5:42
But if you had known what this means, I desire mercy and not
• 5:46
sacrifice, you wouldn't have condemned the guiltless, for the
• 5:49
Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.
• 5:51
He departed from there and went into their synagogue, and
• 5:54
behold, there was a man with a withered hand.
• 5:57
They asked him, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day, so that
• 6:01
they might accuse him? He said to them, What man is
• 6:04
there among you who has one sheep?
• 6:06
And if this one falls into a pit on the Sabbath day, won't he
• 6:09
grab onto it and lift it out? Of how much more value then is a
• 6:12
man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do
• 6:15
good on the Sabbath day. Then He told the man, Stretch
• 6:18
out your hand. He stretched it out, and it was
• 6:21
restored whole just like the other.
• 6:23
But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how they
• 6:26
might destroy him. Jesus perceiving that, withdrew
• 6:29
from there. Great multitudes followed him,
• 6:32
and he healed them all and commanded them that they should
• 6:34
not make him known that it might be fulfilled.
• 6:36
Which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, Behold my
• 6:40
servant whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul is well
• 6:43
pleased, I will put my spirit on him.
• 6:46
He will proclaim justice to the nation's.
• 6:48
He will not strive nor shout, neither will anyone hear his
• 6:51
voice in the streets. He won't break a bruised Reed,
• 6:55
He won't quench a smoking flax, Until He leads justice to
• 6:58
victory in his name the nations will hope.
• 7:01
Then one possessed by a demon, blind and mute was brought to
• 7:04
him, and he healed him, so that the blind and mute man both
• 7:07
spoke and saw. All the multitudes were amazed
• 7:10
and said, Can this be the son of David?
• 7:13
But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man does not
• 7:16
cast out demons except by Beelzebul the Prince of the
• 7:19
  demons. Knowing their thoughts, Jesus
• 7:22
said to them, Every Kingdom divided against itself is
• 7:25
brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against
• 7:28
itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is
• 7:32
divided against himself. How then will his Kingdom stand?
• 7:36
If I by Beelzebul cast out demons?
• 7:38
By whom do your children cast them out?
• 7:40
Therefore they will be your judges.
• 7:42
But if I, by the Spirit of God cast out demons, then God's
• 7:46
Kingdom has come upon you. Or how can one enter into the
• 7:49
House of the strong man and plunder his goods?
• 7:51
Unless he first bind the strong man, then he will plunder his
• 7:55
house. He who is not with me is against
• 7:58
me, and he who doesn't gather with me scatters.
• 8:00
Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven
• 8:04
men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven
• 8:07
men. Whoever speaks a word against
• 8:10
the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him.
• 8:12
But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be
• 8:15
forgiven him either in this age or in that which is to come.
• 8:19
Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree
• 8:22
corrupt and its fruit corrupt, for the tree is known by its
• 8:25
fruit. You offspring of Vipers, how can
• 8:28
you, being evil, speak good things?
• 8:30
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
• 8:34
The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things,
• 8:37
and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings out evil things.
• 8:40
I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give
• 8:44
account of it in the day of Judgment, for by your words you
• 8:47
will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
• 8:50
Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered, Teacher, we
• 8:54
want to see a sign from you. But He answered them.
• 8:57
An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign,
• 9:00
but no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the
• 9:03
prophet. For as Jonah was 3 days and
• 9:06
three nights in the belly of the huge fish, so will the Son of
• 9:09
Man be 3 days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
• 9:12
The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgement with this
• 9:15
generation and will condemn it, for they repented at the
• 9:18
preaching of Jonah and behold, someone greater than Jonah is
• 9:21
here. The queen of the South will rise
• 9:24
up in the judgement with this generation and will condemn it,
• 9:27
for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of
• 9:30
Solomon, and behold, someone greater than Solomon is here.
• 9:34
When an unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he passes through
• 9:37
waterless places seeking rest, and doesn't find it.
• 9:41
Then he says, I will return into my house from which I came.
• 9:44
And when he has come back, he finds it empty, swept, and put
• 9:47
an order. Then he goes and takes with
• 9:50
himself seven other spirits more evil than he is, and they enter
• 9:53
in and dwell there. The last state of that man
• 9:56
becomes worse than the first. Even so will it be also to this
• 10:00
evil generation. While he was yet speaking to the
• 10:03
multitudes, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside,
• 10:07
seeking to speak to him. One said to him, Behold, your
• 10:10
mother and your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to
• 10:12
you. But he answered him, who spoke
• 10:14
to him, Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?
• 10:18
He stretched out his hand toward his disciples and said, Behold
• 10:21
my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my
• 10:24
father who is in heaven, he is my brother and sister and
• 10:28
mother. Thanks for joining us on Bible
