- 1:00looking after yourself either way, with or without a banana
- 1:05split. Happy Friday.
- 1:06So good to have your company, as today we continue in our
- 1:10tradition of reading a Psalm to finish the week, and today we
- 1:13have another Psalm of ASAP. And this is a Psalm of lament,
- 1:18as the Psalmist writes about the fall of Jerusalem.
- 1:23So, not a particularly happy Psalm, but well, it's part of
- 1:28life as we lament the tragedies that have happened around us and
- 1:33before us. So before our banana splits, let
- 1:37us read together. Psalm 79, a Psalm of ASAP.
- 1:53Oh God, Pagan nations have conquered your land, your
- 1:57special possession. They have defiled your temple
- 2:01and made Jerusalem a heap of ruins.
- 2:04They have left the bodies of your servants as food for the
- 2:07birds of heaven. The flesh of your godly ones has
- 2:11become food for the wild animals.
- 2:14Blood has flowed like water all around Jerusalem.
- 2:19No one is left to bury the dead. We are mocked by our neighbors,
- 2:24an object of scorn and derision to those around us.
- 2:28Oh Lord, how long will you be angry with us?
- 2:33Forever. How long will your jealousy burn
- 2:36like fire? Pour out your wrath on the
- 2:39nations that refuse to acknowledge you, on kingdoms
- 2:43that do not call upon your name, for they have devoured your
- 2:47people. Israel, making the land a
- 2:50desolate wilderness, Do not hold us guilty for the sins of our
- 2:55ancestors. Let your compassion quickly meet
- 2:58our needs, for we are on the brink of despair.
- 3:03Help us, O God of our salvation. Help us for the glory of your
- 3:08name. Save us and forgive our sins for
- 3:12the honor of your name. Why should Pagan nations be
- 3:16allowed to scoff, asking where is their God?
- 3:20Show us your vengeance against the nations, for they have
- 3:24spilled the blood of your servants.
- 3:27Listen to the moaning of the prisoners.
- 3:30Demonstrate your great power by saving those condemned to die.
- 3:35Oh Lord, pay back our neighbors 7 times for the scorn they have
- 3:39hurled at you. Then we, your people, the sheep
- 3:44of your pasture, will thank you forever and ever, praising your
- 3:49greatness from generation to generation.
- 4:03Yep, I can feel pretty hopeless sometimes.
- 4:07Like everything is going wrong. Like so much pressure is
- 4:10mounting on our shoulders. Like there is no banana splits
- 4:14inside to to give us refuge from the dramas that we face.
- 4:20And in these moments, Lord, let us come back to you, let it be
- 4:25your name that we cry out to, to save us.
- 4:30Because in your provision is everything that we need through
- 4:36the difficult times and the good times.
- 4:40Thank you, Lord, that your provision is not just for now,
- 4:43but it is for all eternity as you draw us close to you and
- 4:48never ever, ever let us go. We just praise you, Jesus, for
- 4:56that everlasting embrace and pray that we would know it for
- 5:02sure, even when times are tough. We pray all of this in your
- 5:06name, Jesus. Amen show Vijay Prakash Kannada
