- 0:02A sower went out to sow his seed and as he sowed some fell by the
- 0:07wayside and others fell on, good ground and sprang up and bear
- 0:12fruit an hundredfold. Hey, listeners.
- 0:15This is Nick from scripture Central.
- 0:17And today's podcast addresses, the question, how does the
- 0:20parable of the sower help us understand lehi's vision of the
- 0:24Tree of Life. One of the first Parables
- 0:30delivered by Jesus is often called the parable of the sower.
- 0:34In all the gospel accounts that record this Parable.
- 0:37Jesus delivered it to a large multitude who came earnestly
- 0:40seeking to know the truths Jesus taught.
- 0:44According to this Parable, A sower went out to sow his seed
- 0:48which then fell on four types of soil, these included one, the
- 0:52Wayside where the seed was trampled or eaten by birds.
- 0:56Two rocks unsuitable for growth three soil, with thorns already
- 1:04growing. And for good soil, that allowed
- 1:07the seeds to grow and bear fruit.
- 1:09According to John and Jeanne Welch, this Parable may have
- 1:13been drawn out by a question about the nature of Jesus
- 1:15teachings. Those listening to the Lord may
- 1:18have wondered. Why will the results of Jesus is
- 1:21preaching. Indubitably vary.
- 1:23So wildly the message. Each Heard constituted the same
- 1:28words or seeds in the context of the parable, the only variable
- 1:32that could stimulate or hinder the seeds growth would prove to
- 1:36be how it was individually, accepted.
- 1:39Similarly, The Book of Mormon contains a vision relating four,
- 1:42distinct groups of people who accept or reject the gospel.
- 1:46Elder Jeffrey are Holland. Has noted how the same four
- 1:49types of people mentioned in. Christ's Parable coincide with
- 1:53the group's described in lehi's, dream of the Tree of Life.
- 1:57The first group in Christ's parable are the seeds that fell
- 2:00by the way side and the fowls came and devoured them up.
- 2:04Representing those who are least receptive to the gospel.
- 2:08This group, corresponds to those who filled the great and
- 2:11spacious building, lehi's, dream, Lehigh described them as
- 2:14being in the attitude of mocking, and pointing their
- 2:17fingers towards those who had come at and were partaking of
- 2:21the fruit others who blindly sought to join them were drowned
- 2:25or lost in Ange paths. The second group of people in
- 2:29Christ, parable are represented by seeds that fell upon Stony
- 2:33places where they had not much Earth and forthwith, they sprung
- 2:37up because they had no deepness of Earth.
- 2:40And when the sun was up, they were scorched and because they
- 2:43had no root they withered away. Jesus identifies.
- 2:47This group is those who leave the gospel when tribulation or
- 2:51persecution arises because of the word that causes them
- 2:54offense. Similarly, Lehigh saw a group of
- 2:58people who initially accepted and began to follow the gospel
- 3:01path to eternal life but ultimately, were Blinded By The
- 3:04Mist Of Darkness, so that they wandered off and were lost The
- 3:09third group consists of those seeds that fell among the thorns
- 3:13and the Thorns sprung up and choked them.
- 3:16These Thorns choked off the ongoing possibility of
- 3:19christ-centered living that had actually taken root in lehi's
- 3:23Vision. This group made it to the Tree
- 3:24of Life by clinging to the rod of iron.
- 3:27But after they had partaken of the fruit of the tree, they did
- 3:30cast their eyes about as if they were ashamed.
- 3:33Sadly, they listen to those in the great and spacious building
- 3:37and the care of this world and the the deceitfulness of riches
- 3:40cause them to wander into forbidden paths, finally.
- 3:44And Most Blessed of all is the fourth group of seeds that fell
- 3:47into good ground and brought forth fruit.
- 3:51Interestingly both Mark and Luke describe the good soil in terms
- 3:54of holding, on to the gospel or word of God, which parallels the
- 3:59symbolism of the iron rod and lehi's dream in Mark, chapter 4
- 4:03verse 20. These individuals must accept
- 4:06the word, but this could alternatively be read.
- 4:09As receive with approval literally to be given.
- 4:12The right hand likewise in Luke 4:18.
- 4:16This group is described as those who keep the word or hold it
- 4:21tight. This again corresponds to lehi's
- 4:23dream in which some people did press their way forward
- 4:27continually holding fast to the rod of iron until they came
- 4:30forth and fell down and partook of the fruit of the tree.
- 4:35Once they had reached the tree this group, fully acknowledged
- 4:38the love of the Savior by Falling Down In Worship of him.
- 4:42The parable of the sower and the vision of the Tree of Life,
- 4:44teach similar principles in each three groups of people lose
- 4:48their way. For various reasons, the sad
- 4:51outcome for these seeds acts as a warning of what behaviors and
- 4:55attitudes we should avoid, as well as an explanation of why
- 4:58some people reject God's truth and goodness, the fourth group,
- 5:02those who plant the gospel in their Arts and nurture.
- 5:05It are those who find Ultimate, joy and Lasting peace in their
- 5:09lives as Elder Jeffrey. Our Holland has noted both of
- 5:13these symbolic stories portray Jesus Christ as the source of
- 5:17eternal life and joy. The living evidence of divine
- 5:20love. And the means whereby God will
- 5:22fulfill his Covenant with the house of Israel.
- 5:25And indeed the entire family of man returning them all to their
- 5:29Eternal promises. However for Christ's cleansing
- 5:33and saving work to Root in the soil of our hearts.
- 5:36We must willingly choose to believe and follow his words, no
- 5:41matter. Our current progress on the path
- 5:43of discipleship. We can all soften our hearts and
- 5:45repent. Preparing, a place for the word
- 5:48to grow within US. President down a chokes
- 5:51explained, it is up to each of us to set the priorities and to
- 5:56do the things that make our soil.
- 5:58Good and our Harvest plentiful. We must seek to be firmly rooted
- 6:03and converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- 6:06We achieve this conversion by praying by scripture, reading by
- 6:10serving. And by regularly partaking of
- 6:13the sacrament to always have his Spirit to be with us.
- 6:16We must also seek that Mighty change of heart that replaces
- 6:20evil desires and selfish concerns with the love of God
- 6:24and the desire to serve him and his children.
