- 1:55Speaker 2: by Maristar Casino. CBS Sports does their final power rankings
- 2:02Speaker 2: for quarterbacks and we've gone through this a million times
- 2:05Speaker 2: and I don't want to go through this exercise to
- 2:07Speaker 2: go through it because of the ranking. I want to
- 2:09Speaker 2: look at guys that We could see move. Like, and
- 2:12Speaker 2: I'm talking about move up the list. Like, who could
- 2:13Speaker 2: be a household name? Maybe, I mean, we know Dante Moore,
- 2:16Speaker 2: number one at Oregon, is going to have a, should,
- 2:18Speaker 2: if these guys, if all things are created equal and
- 2:22Speaker 2: these guys stay healthy, they should be really good. Dante
- 2:25Speaker 2: Moore should have a really good year at Oregon. Arch
- 2:27Speaker 2: Manning should have a really good year in Texas. Trinidad, Chambliss,
- 2:30Speaker 2: and Ole Miss should be really good. Darian Mintz at Miami.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I'm going through the list. Julian Sayen, C.J. Carr at
- 2:36Speaker 2: Notre Dame. You know, Let's pause at number seven, Jaden Mavia, USC. Now,
- 2:44Speaker 2: USC has already had one ball game. And let me
- 2:49Speaker 2: look right quick if this thing will pull up. You know,
- 2:52Speaker 2: Jaden Mavia is a guy, you know, if USC is
- 2:54Speaker 2: going to make that next step, what's the next step?
- 2:57Speaker 2: If they're going to be a player in the Big Ten,
- 2:58Speaker 2: like a real player in the Big Ten, if they're
- 3:00Speaker 2: going to be right there, you know, in that race
- 3:03Speaker 2: in November, if they're going to make that kind of stride, well,
- 3:06Speaker 2: it's going to come down. primarily to jay mavia and
- 3:10Speaker 2: what he does and what he looks like and can
- 3:12Speaker 2: he be even number seven can he move himself into
- 3:15Speaker 2: that heisman conversation because that's where you got to be
- 3:19Speaker 2: usc scored 42 points over the weekend and gave up
- 3:22Speaker 2: 26 they cruised against san jose state and when you
- 3:26Speaker 2: look at jay mavia and what he did over the
- 3:29Speaker 2: weekend he was 29 or he was 25 of 29
- 3:32Speaker 2: for 286 yards he threw a couple touchdowns had a
- 3:35Speaker 2: little cleanup action from jonas williams he's a freshman quarterback
- 3:40Speaker 2: and when you look at the Trojans over the weekend,
- 3:42Speaker 2: Jaden Moffitt not a runner. I mean, three carries for
- 3:45Speaker 2: minus nine. I mean, he was sacked a time or two.
- 3:47Speaker 2: He didn't have a touchdown at the goal line, and
- 3:49Speaker 2: USC not showing a ton in the run game. King Miller,
- 3:53Speaker 2: their leading rusher, 15 carries for 63 yards. USC needs
- 3:59Speaker 2: him to be really big if they're going to be
- 4:02Speaker 2: really big, and they'll take on Fresno State coming up
- 4:04Speaker 2: this weekend. Then they'll take on Lafayette, and then at Rutgers,
- 4:08Speaker 2: There's an opportunity for them to be 4-0 when they
- 4:12Speaker 2: host Oregon on the 26th of this month. It's hard
- 4:15Speaker 2: to believe that, right? The 26th of this month, September,
- 4:19Speaker 2: Oregon will play USC. And then they'll host Oregon and
- 4:23Speaker 2: Washington back-to-back. So old Pac-12 foes, they'll host them back-to-back.
- 4:27Speaker 2: It'll be like a reunion. Then they'll have two straight
- 4:29Speaker 2: road games at Penn State, at Wisconsin, before having Ohio
- 4:33Speaker 2: State at the Coliseum. So, I mean, there's going to
- 4:36Speaker 2: be an opportunity to pack the Coliseum You know, regardless
- 4:39Speaker 2: of what happened with San Jose State, doubtful that they'll
- 4:41Speaker 2: pack it against Fresno, probably a little bigger crowd versus
- 4:44Speaker 2: San Jose State. Doubtful they pack it against Louisiana, formerly Lafayette,
- 4:48Speaker 2: but they will pack it for Oregon, Washington, and Ohio State.
- 4:52Speaker 2: They do play Maryland at home. All right, looking on
- 4:55Speaker 2: down this list as you kind of go through here,
- 4:57Speaker 2: Josh Hoover, he's one of those guys. Indiana. Indiana, because
- 5:03Speaker 2: they are the defending national champions and because of Kurt Cignetti,
- 5:07Speaker 2: they're going to be on your TV screen all the time. SportsCenter,
- 5:12Speaker 2: College Game Day, all the Fox specials, wherever you're watching
- 5:16Speaker 2: your college football, Indiana's going to be there. As long
- 5:18Speaker 2: as they win it, they're going to be there. Josh
- 5:20Speaker 2: Hoover is the next man up. So he's following Fernando Mendoza, who,
- 5:24Speaker 2: by the way, is now the backup, officially the backup
- 5:27Speaker 2: quarterback for the Raiders. The Raiders have announced their starting quarterback.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It was not Mendoza. But obviously that's the future. But
- 5:34Speaker 2: Hoover's got to become the next Mendoza. Kevin Jennings is one.
- 5:39Speaker 2: For SMU, who's had a good career out there, already
- 5:43Speaker 2: got some building or something named facility after him already,
- 5:48Speaker 2: and you don't see that much with an active player.
- 5:50Speaker 2: But Kevin Jennings at SMU could really elevate SMU this year.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I'm back in that college football playoff conversation. If you remember,
- 6:00Speaker 2: the Ponies were in the initial 12-team playoff, and Kevin
- 6:04Speaker 2: Jennings was the quarterback. He had a bad outing against
- 6:07Speaker 2: Penn State on the road in the first round But
- 6:09Speaker 2: he could really be that guy. That starts this weekend
- 6:11Speaker 2: against Florida State. And I'll give you women's winners. I'm
- 6:14Speaker 2: picking SMU to win outright at Florida State because of
- 6:17Speaker 2: Kevin Jennings. They're a three-and-a-half-point favorite on the road in
- 6:21Speaker 2: Tallahassee this weekend because of Kevin Jennings. I like Kevin Jennings.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I think he's pretty darn good. And he's a guy
- 6:29Speaker 2: that's played a lot of college football. He's a mobile guy.
- 6:33Speaker 2: He throws a good ball. And I'm not just talking
- 6:35Speaker 2: about the deep ball. I mean, he's a good intermediate passer,
- 6:38Speaker 2: reads the defense well. Kevin Jennings is one. Byron Brown
- 6:41Speaker 2: at Auburn is another one at number 10 that really could,
- 6:45Speaker 2: we could see him elevate his game to a different
- 6:50Speaker 2: level at Auburn. I mean, you're talking about a guy who,
- 6:53Speaker 2: you know, ran for 1,008 yards last year. He had
- 6:57Speaker 2: 14 rushing touchdowns. He had another 28 touchdowns through the
- 7:01Speaker 2: air for 3,158 yards. So, I mean, you're talking about
- 7:05Speaker 2: a guy who had over 40 touchdowns last year And
- 7:09Speaker 2: I know it was South Florida, but he's a guy
- 7:12Speaker 2: at Auburn that could put, you know, if Auburn is
- 7:15Speaker 2: going to get back in into the swing of things
- 7:18Speaker 2: in the SEC and they're going to be somebody that
- 7:20Speaker 2: can kind of swing the pendulum in the SEC, you know,
- 7:23Speaker 2: win a game that maybe keeps them in the conversation
- 7:26Speaker 2: late October, maybe knocks out a team that's in contention.
- 7:32Speaker 2: It's going to be because of Byron Brown. Same thing
- 7:33Speaker 2: for Sam Levitt. I mean, And I guess I kind
- 7:38Speaker 2: of fall in this instance as well. I'm assuming because
- 7:43Speaker 2: of what we saw from Sam Levitt two years ago,
- 7:44Speaker 2: because he led Arizona State to the college football playoff,
- 7:48Speaker 2: and I know a lot of people give credit to
- 7:50Speaker 2: Cam Scadaboo, and you should, but that was a really
- 7:52Speaker 2: good combination, and Sam Levitt was really good last year
- 7:55Speaker 2: with some injuries. Because he's paired with Lane Kiffin, it's
- 7:58Speaker 2: immediately going to be a great marriage, and he's going
- 8:00Speaker 2: to fly off the charts, and he very well could.
- 8:02Speaker 2: But if LSU is going to be that team, Sam
- 8:05Speaker 2: Levitt has to be that guy. So, you know, you're
- 8:08Speaker 2: looking at Byron Brown, you're looking at Sam Levitt, you're
- 8:10Speaker 2: looking at Kevin Jennings, Josh Hoover. You know, these have
- 8:13Speaker 2: got Jaden Mavia, guys that are outside that top six
- 8:16Speaker 2: of Chambliss, Sayen, Carr, Manning, Moore. And when you look
- 8:23Speaker 2: at some more of these guys, you know, Gunnar Stockton's
- 8:25Speaker 2: 12th on this list. For Georgia, I don't think Gunnar
- 8:28Speaker 2: Stockton has to be great. He just has to be
- 8:31Speaker 2: really good, and he is really good. And if Gunnar
- 8:33Speaker 2: Stockton is really good, Georgia's going to be right there
- 8:37Speaker 2: because their line of scrimmage play is as good as
- 8:39Speaker 2: anybody in the country. They return a lot of guys
- 8:42Speaker 2: on both interior lines, offensive and defensive fronts. They're going
- 8:45Speaker 2: to have backers that can run. He's that guy. Noah
- 8:49Speaker 2: Fafita is sitting here at 13th on this list for Arizona.
- 8:55Speaker 2: How high can Arizona climb? It would be a pretty
- 8:57Speaker 2: big story if he really popped off. He's going to
- 9:01Speaker 2: surpass likely 10,000 career passing yards this year. And he
- 9:05Speaker 2: had his best season of his career last year. The
- 9:08Speaker 2: Wildcats went 9-4. But if they're going to really get
- 9:12Speaker 2: into this race and be in that conversation piece of
- 9:14Speaker 2: the college football playoff by virtue of winning the Big 12,
- 9:18Speaker 2: it's got to be because of him. Marcel Reed, 14,
- 9:19Speaker 2: we already gave you an excerpt on Marcel Reed. He
- 9:22Speaker 2: said he hates Texas. They've got to pay, and he's
- 9:25Speaker 2: going to make them pay. Well, if Texas A &
- 9:28Speaker 2: M is going to get back to the college football playoff, Obviously,
- 9:32Speaker 2: they've got to have the team to do it, and
- 9:33Speaker 2: I think they do, but it's got to come through
- 9:34Speaker 2: Marcel Reed.
- 9:35Speaker 3: 601-885-3776.

- 11:28Speaker 2: Bill Bender will join us here in about 30 minutes.
- 11:31Speaker 2: We'll get his take on several games coming up this weekend.
- 11:34Speaker 2: WIMS winners are out. I'll get those to you as
- 11:40Speaker 2: we move along here. First off, I'll get back into
- 11:43Speaker 2: some of these quarterbacks, especially on down the list. The
- 11:46Speaker 2: ESPN team of college football experts, in quotes, they have
- 11:51Speaker 2: released all of the team's national championship picks for the
- 11:54Speaker 2: 2026 season. So let's go through this, shall we? Some
- 11:58Speaker 2: of these people, I don't even know who they are.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Y'all may know who they are. I have no idea
- 12:01Speaker 2: who some of these people are. Andrea Adelson. Andrea Adelson,
- 12:06Speaker 2: she picks Notre Dame. Kyle Bonagura. I don't even know
- 12:11Speaker 2: who that is. He picks Ohio State. Bill Conley picked
- 12:14Speaker 2: Notre Dame. Heather Denich picks Texas. David Hale picked Notre Dame.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Eli Letterman, Notre Dame. Four letters going all in on
- 12:23Speaker 2: Notre Dame, aren't they? Max Olson, Ohio State. Adam Rittenberg,
- 12:28Speaker 2: Notre Dame. As he said, Carr is the type of
- 12:30Speaker 2: quarterback Notre Dame hasn't had during its nearly four-decade drought
- 12:33Speaker 2: without a national title. And he, along with two elite lines,
- 12:37Speaker 2: will propel the Irish to a championship. Let me Let
- 12:40Speaker 2: me stop right there first.
- 12:42Speaker 4: C.J. Carr.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And again, he's listed on these lists of quarterbacks and
- 12:49Speaker 2: top 100, top 120. He's in the top 10, and
- 12:53Speaker 2: I think he is one of the better quarterbacks in
- 12:55Speaker 2: the country. But what did he do last year? Let's
- 12:58Speaker 2: just go back and look at C.J. Carr from a
- 13:01Speaker 2: year ago. As a freshman last year, he was impressive.
- 13:07Speaker 2: 24 touchdowns, six interceptions. He protects the ball well. Completing
- 13:12Speaker 2: passes at a 67% completion clip, 2,741 yards. And not
- 13:20Speaker 2: a big runner. He had three touchdowns. He had a
- 13:22Speaker 2: total of 33 yards on 41 carries. So he's a
- 13:25Speaker 2: true pocket passer. The questions that I have for Notre
- 13:28Speaker 2: Dame is, you know, when you get into a game
- 13:30Speaker 2: where maybe some of these teams that run tempo, maybe
- 13:35Speaker 2: they can get over the top on you, Can they chase?
- 13:39Speaker 2: That's the thing. Look, the schedule sets up well for
- 13:41Speaker 2: Notre Dame. It really does. They have one of the
- 13:45Speaker 2: more manageable schedules of the big teams in the country.
- 13:49Speaker 2: And they have the most manageable schedule in the country.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, when you think about all the big
- 13:57Speaker 2: teams' schedules. Let me get their schedule real quick. And
- 14:02Speaker 2: we'll get back through these picks here. When you look at.
- 14:07Speaker 2: The 2026 Notre Dame Fighting Irish football schedule. And we'll
- 14:12Speaker 2: go to fightingirish.com. If these pop-ups, all these pop-ups, why
- 14:19Speaker 2: do these pop-ups keep coming up? Let's see here.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Schedule.
- 14:23Speaker 2: There we go. So they'll open up Wisconsin this weekend.
- 14:28Speaker 2: They're a pretty large favorite. I think 20.5 point favorite
- 14:30Speaker 2: over Wisconsin. This is a neutral site game, Lambeau Field.
- 14:34Speaker 2: By all accounts, they should win that game walking away. And,
- 14:38Speaker 2: you know, if I was playing the game, I'm not
- 14:40Speaker 2: going to play this game. I may would take Notre
- 14:42Speaker 2: Dame and give up the points.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Because I don't know how good Wisconsin is. They'll take
- 14:46Speaker 2: on Rice in South Bend, Indiana, Notre Dame Stadium next week.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Michigan State, Notre Dame Stadium. Purdue on the road. They'll
- 14:54Speaker 2: take on North Carolina on the road. Stanford at home.
- 14:59Speaker 2: At BYU, October 17th. That could get a little tricky. Provo, Utah,
- 15:05Speaker 2: probably a late kick. Lavelle Edwards Stadium, that stadium has
- 15:09Speaker 2: been unkind to a lot of teams over the years.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Mississippi State went out there and some others in the
- 15:14Speaker 2: SEC before and have lost over the decades of football,
- 15:17Speaker 2: so to speak. But that's a game where you may
- 15:19Speaker 2: want to circle that October 17th because when you get
- 15:21Speaker 2: that middle of the season, sometimes things start to kind
- 15:25Speaker 2: of fall apart for some teams. Navy, they'll play that
- 15:29Speaker 2: at Gillette Stadium. Then they host the Miami Hurricanes on
- 15:32Speaker 2: November 7th. It's the biggest game of the year for them.
- 15:35Speaker 2: They should be undefeated going into that game against Miami.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Boston College at home, SMU at home, they could give
- 15:42Speaker 2: them a game. And then at Syracuse. So there's a
- 15:46Speaker 2: couple games on the schedule that peak out. SMU at home,
- 15:50Speaker 2: Miami at home, on the road at BYU. But that's
- 15:53Speaker 2: the schedule. That is the Fighting Irish schedule this year.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Let's see. Mark Slabock picks Ohio State. Jake Trotter picks
- 16:02Speaker 2: Texas to win. This is the ESPN Talent. in quotes, picks.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Paolo Ugatti picks Oregon. Dave Wilson, Oregon. And then they
- 16:17Speaker 2: go to sleepers. Who's your sleeper team outside the top 25?
- 16:20Speaker 2: Outside the top 25, one person picks the Pittsburgh Panthers.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Somebody else picks North Dakota State. Now, this is just
- 16:27Speaker 2: sleepers as far as teams that could make a run
- 16:29Speaker 2: and maybe make the playoff. Bill Conley picks cow. Then
- 16:32Speaker 2: it's picks South Carolina. Oh, there's of course she's going
- 16:35Speaker 2: to pick South Carolina. She's going to fuck. Then it's
- 16:37Speaker 2: will follow the leader that I figured that out. She
- 16:41Speaker 2: follows the leader. She doesn't make a coherent thought. It's
- 16:45Speaker 2: it's follow the leader, look pretty on camera and go.
- 16:48Speaker 2: And I know that sounds misogynistic. It's not, it's just
- 16:50Speaker 2: the truth. She's not real smart. I mean, South Carolina, that's,
- 16:54Speaker 2: that's the darling of the darlings this year for dark horses.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I mean, if you, If you go into a room
- 17:00Speaker 2: and you say, pick the dark horse, go in the closet,
- 17:01Speaker 2: pick the dark horse. Everybody's picking South Carolina again. Somebody
- 17:07Speaker 2: picked Auburn, Navy, Oklahoma State. I told you I'm interested
- 17:11Speaker 2: in this Oklahoma State team. Several put Oklahoma State on here.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Eric Morris in that offense is going to be interesting
- 17:18Speaker 2: to watch, but that's from the ESPN crew.
- 17:21Speaker 4: 601-885-3776.
- 17:21Speaker 2: That is the Cowboy Maloney's text line. Back to these quarterbacks.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Speaking of Oklahoma State, Drew Mestemaker, he is the quarterback
- 17:31Speaker 2: this year for Oklahoma State. He led all FBS quarterbacks
- 17:33Speaker 2: in passing yards last year, 4,379 yards, tied for second
- 17:40Speaker 2: in touchdowns with 34, and fourth in passing efficiency. The
- 17:45Speaker 2: formerly overlooked prospect had a myriad of options in the
- 17:48Speaker 2: portal but opted to follow Eric Morris, the coach who
- 17:52Speaker 2: gave him a chance. the Cowboys who also signed two
- 17:54Speaker 2: of Mestermaker's top targets from North Texas, Wyatt Young and
- 17:58Speaker 2: Miles Coleman. I'm really, really interested in this Oklahoma State team.
- 18:05Speaker 2: And this is a team that won two ballgames last year.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Could they come out of the fray, so to speak,
- 18:11Speaker 2: and win the Big 12 in year one? You know,
- 18:15Speaker 2: a lot of people have asked, who is the next Mestermaker?
- 18:17Speaker 2: Indiana situation. Who's the next Kurt Cignetti? And I'm not
- 18:20Speaker 2: about to sit here and tell you Oklahoma State's going
- 18:22Speaker 2: to win the national title. That is not what I'm
- 18:24Speaker 2: telling you because I don't believe that's going to happen.
- 18:26Speaker 2: But if you look at these teams and you reference
- 18:31Speaker 2: the two, Mestemaker plus Wyatt Young and Dorner, I mean,
- 18:35Speaker 2: Wyatt Young is a guy who caught 70 balls last
- 18:39Speaker 2: year for North Texas, 1,264 yards and 10 touchdowns. Cameron
- 18:43Speaker 2: Dorner Caught 56 balls for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns. And,
- 18:50Speaker 2: you know, now both these guys sitting around 6'1, 95.
- 18:55Speaker 2: That's Wyatt Young. He's from Katy, Texas. And it seems
- 18:57Speaker 2: like any time you reference a football player from Katy, Texas,
- 18:59Speaker 2: they're good. Like, I don't know what's in the water
- 19:02Speaker 2: in Katy, Texas, what they're doing over there, but it
- 19:05Speaker 2: seems like all football players are good. As Cameron Dorner,
- 19:09Speaker 2: he's 6'1, 195. So let's keep up with Drew Mestermaker.
- 19:14Speaker 2: He's a guy that You could see getting a lot
- 19:17Speaker 2: more screen time if Oklahoma State does well. Jerron Cowie-Sagapatoli, California. Now,
- 19:27Speaker 2: a lot of people feel like Cal, under Justin Wilcox,
- 19:31Speaker 2: could make a run in the ACC. Could. And they'll
- 19:36Speaker 2: play UCLA this weekend. So, you know, you got two
- 19:39Speaker 2: former Pac-12 teams getting after it this weekend. Those two teams,
- 19:44Speaker 2: you know, UCLA wants to kind of make a push
- 19:45Speaker 2: in the Big Ten and kind of a splash and
- 19:48Speaker 2: show that they're there, that they actually have a football program.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Cal is wanting to show that they belong in the ACC.
- 19:54Speaker 2: And Sacramento is going to be the difference, that they
- 19:57Speaker 2: are or not there. We're brought to you by Ranco Transmission,

- 20:52Speaker 1: On ESPN 105.9 The Zone and online at thezone1059. com.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Bill Bender will join us next segment. We'll talk these
- 21:22Speaker 2: college football games. We're brought to you by Sound and Communications,

- 21:35Speaker 2: Go to soundcomav.com today. Let's go to Beeb. He says
- 21:39Speaker 2: he's got a few words over there.
- 21:41Speaker 5: Beeb?
- 21:42Speaker 6: Well, we've got some text messages here. First, from St.
- 21:46Speaker 6: Louis Vic.
- 21:48Speaker 3: And then his text brings to mind something I heard
- 21:51Speaker 3: earlier today that I'll tell you about. But he says, Jake,
- 21:56Speaker 3: we'll see how it all turns out. But so far,
- 21:58Speaker 3: it looks like that old voodoo lady is working overtime
- 22:02Speaker 3: for our friends down in Baton Rouge. Falk, who is
- 22:06Speaker 3: extremely intelligent but comes off as arrogant, hasn't gotten off
- 22:10Speaker 3: to the greatest start. And Lane is being Lane. We'll
- 22:15Speaker 3: see how long it takes before schools begin cloning former players,
- 22:21Speaker 3: living or deceased.
- 22:23Speaker 6: Yikes.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Is that what's next? Are we about to clone people?
- 22:27Speaker 3: Yes, I like that. So he's got a whole new
- 22:30Speaker 3: theory now. That's what we're going to. These schools are
- 22:33Speaker 3: about to open up cloning departments.
- 22:38Speaker 2: So who's going to be the first one to clone
- 22:40Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes?
- 22:42Speaker 3: Well, it's got to be... Oh, well, we already have
- 22:46Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes, right? Because Dylan Raiola at Oregon. He's basically
- 22:52Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes, except for the talent or the speed or
- 22:59Speaker 3: the arm strength or the brains. But he tries as
- 23:03Speaker 3: hard as he can to have the look.
- 23:05Speaker 2: He's everything but Patrick Mahomes. That's a good point.
- 23:09Speaker 3: And what I was saying, this reminded me of something
- 23:11Speaker 3: I heard earlier. So, okay, I like this.
- 23:13Speaker 5: St.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Louis Vic has a new theory here. They're about to
- 23:16Speaker 3: start cloning players. That reminds me of another theory. And,
- 23:22Speaker 3: you know, we love good conspiracy theories.
- 23:25Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Earlier today, someone made a comment on Matt Wyatt's show.
- 23:32Speaker 3: And as much of this stupid, stupid Lane Kiffin and
- 23:36Speaker 3: LSU talk we've had to endure for.
- 23:39Speaker 6: Months now. I hadn't thought about this and I'm going
- 23:42Speaker 6: with it.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Their theory is this was all actually Keith Carter and
- 23:49Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin planned all this. They got together and sent
- 23:54Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin to LSU to burn it down from within.
- 24:01Speaker 2: That is, excuse me, I can't even talk. I haven't
- 24:06Speaker 2: even thought about this. How did Matt take this?
- 24:08Speaker 3: Matt did not appreciate it as much. You know, Matt doesn't,
- 24:15Speaker 3: unless it's like some banjo music or some lame Andy
- 24:19Speaker 3: Griffith rerun or something, Matt's not going to really appreciate it.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:24Speaker 6: But I did. I certainly did.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:27Speaker 2: No, I can appreciate that. That's an interesting take. Hey,
- 24:30Speaker 2: let's take LSU out and you get paid. But what
- 24:34Speaker 2: happens to Lane? Like, is there an exit strategy for
- 24:36Speaker 2: Lane not to get burned out?
- 24:38Speaker 3: With the program when all this happens. Well, I'm sure there's,
- 24:43Speaker 3: you know, you got the money that LSU is going
- 24:44Speaker 3: to give him. And then I'm sure if that's the case,
- 24:48Speaker 3: then there was some kind of deal made where Ole
- 24:51Speaker 3: Miss will take care of him for the sabotage.
- 24:53Speaker 6: So he'll be okay.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Maybe Ole Miss will take him back.
- 24:59Speaker 6: Well, I don't know if they can go that far now.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:02Speaker 6: Let's see.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Andre with a prediction. Louisville 31. Ole Miss, 23.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Oof.
- 25:11Speaker 2: So he's got Louisville kind of running him out of
- 25:14Speaker 2: the building up there. What do you think about that?
- 25:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I wouldn't really call eight points running him out of
- 25:22Speaker 3: the building.
- 25:25Speaker 2: It would be interesting. I mean, if that game gets
- 25:27Speaker 2: into the fourth quarter and Louisville has a lead, there's
- 25:31Speaker 2: going to be some tight rear ends around the state
- 25:32Speaker 2: of Mississippi for sure.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Yep.
- 25:35Speaker 6: Possum Neck Joe.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Says, I just sat down with a bowl of butter
- 25:39Speaker 3: pecan ice cream, and I'm waiting on Jake to cover
- 25:42Speaker 3: it with super Camario syrup.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Hey, you know, maybe that's an NIL deal waiting to happen.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Camario syrup.
- 25:51Speaker 6: Camario syrup.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Will Joe tune in for the Camario show on Saturday? Oh, yeah.
- 26:03Speaker 1: All this talk.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Look, despite what he thinks, he's hoping this kid, he's
- 26:11Speaker 3: going to support this kid.
- 26:12Speaker 6: Let's say that. Joe's all talk.
- 26:15Speaker 2: I mean, I know Joe works in the elements. It
- 26:19Speaker 2: sounds like Joe owns his own business, his own land.
- 26:21Speaker 2: I mean, Joe's probably sitting on more money than God.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Truth be told, if Kamario Taylor really pops off and
- 26:28Speaker 2: moves up this list, who's to say that Joe wouldn't
- 26:31Speaker 2: buy a Kamario Taylor jersey and wear it? Out on
- 26:34Speaker 2: the tractor. I think he may do it.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Real C literally just texted, somebody say butter pecan ice cream?
- 26:46Speaker 2: That does sound good right about now, doesn't it?
- 26:48Speaker 6: Yeah, it does.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Gator Matt says, you were talking about Auburn last segment.
- 26:53Speaker 3: He said Auburn will get smoked on week three.
- 26:58Speaker 2: That's the Florida Gator game.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I had to look that up. I should have
- 27:02Speaker 3: known that's what he was talking about.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Look, I don't even know what the line is, if
- 27:06Speaker 2: it's been set on that game. There may be a
- 27:08Speaker 2: loose line out there. They'll tighten that up as the
- 27:10Speaker 2: games move on. But I would tell you this, whatever,
- 27:12Speaker 2: take the under on the total. That's a defensive ballgame
- 27:15Speaker 2: waiting to happen. That's a 17-10. That's a slugfest. It's
- 27:21Speaker 2: down on the plains. Matt, you better pucker up. It
- 27:25Speaker 2: could be a four-quarter ballgame down there.
- 27:27Speaker 6: Well, that'll catch us up on the text.
- 27:30Speaker 2: 6-0-1, 8-8-5, 3-7-7-6. Let me go through Wim's winners. Beaver,
- 27:33Speaker 2: you ready for some winners? Oh, yeah.
- 27:36Speaker 6: JC is, too.
- 27:37Speaker 5: Okay.
- 27:38Speaker 2: So I think I got, let's see, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10.
- 27:40Speaker 2: I got you 11. 11 for 11. 11 good ones.
- 27:44Speaker 2: A lot of these are totals because it's important on
- 27:47Speaker 2: week one, what we saw last week. A couple of
- 27:50Speaker 2: these are actual lines for games. Most of these are totals, though.
- 27:58Speaker 2: So let's go through them. Colorado versus Georgia Tech tomorrow night.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Over 50 and a half. Over 50 and a half.
- 28:04Speaker 2: And there's a thought process behind it. Colorado's defense has
- 28:07Speaker 2: not been good. Georgia Tech plays pretty darn good offensively.
- 28:10Speaker 2: They should score in the 30s. Colorado will get some points.
- 28:14Speaker 2: They're going to throw it around the yard. Over 50
- 28:16Speaker 2: and a half. Toledo versus Michigan State. Under 46 and
- 28:20Speaker 2: a half. Look, Michigan State's a favorite here. Toledo could
- 28:25Speaker 2: win this game outright. Michigan State. is a dumpster fire
- 28:29Speaker 2: in the Big Ten right now, along with a couple
- 28:32Speaker 2: other teams like Purdue. Northwestern has tried to have a
- 28:36Speaker 2: resurgence of sorts, but then you look at Maryland. This
- 28:39Speaker 2: is going to be a defensive slugfest. Go under the 46.5,
- 28:42Speaker 2: Michigan State, Toledo. USC, Fresno State go over the 51.5.
- 28:47Speaker 2: USC is going to score in the 40s probably. Fresno
- 28:50Speaker 2: will pick up a couple touchdowns. That one seems like
- 28:52Speaker 2: that will go cruise across the 51.5. Ohio State, Ball State,
- 28:56Speaker 2: same thing, over 56.5. Ohio State's going to be looking
- 28:59Speaker 2: for style points before they play Texas next week. They're
- 29:02Speaker 2: going to cakewalk to 30, 35, 40. Ball State will
- 29:05Speaker 2: get a couple garbage touchdowns, over 56.5. Auburn covers the
- 29:10Speaker 2: 7 versus Baylor this weekend. I'm not buying DJ Lagway.
- 29:15Speaker 2: I'm not buying Dave Aranda. I think Auburn with Alex
- 29:18Speaker 2: Golish at home, Byron Brown, they cover the 7. Oregon
- 29:23Speaker 2: versus Boise State. Under 51.5. This Boise team is going
- 29:30Speaker 2: to give Oregon a punch in the gut.
- 29:32Speaker 1: They are.
- 29:33Speaker 2: They do it every time they play. These two teams,
- 29:35Speaker 2: kind of an off-the-beating-path, semi-rival game. Boise's going to punch
- 29:40Speaker 2: above their weight a little bit. Oregon will win the
- 29:42Speaker 2: ballgame under 51.5. Troy versus Sam Houston State. Both these
- 29:46Speaker 2: teams will be able to score. Phil Longo at Sam
- 29:48Speaker 2: Houston State, formerly of North Carolina and Ole Miss and
- 29:52Speaker 2: some other places, over 54.5. LSU-Clemson. beaver i've got clemson
- 29:57Speaker 2: covering the 10 i think it's a four-quarter ball game
- 30:00Speaker 2: what do you think.
- 30:03Speaker 6: Yeah uh i'll go with you on that one i
- 30:06Speaker 6: hope it is.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Yeah i'd like to see that and maybe this is
- 30:10Speaker 2: just my football you know fandomonium if there is a
- 30:14Speaker 2: word if not we just create it fandom does anybody
- 30:16Speaker 2: say fandomonium i don't know anybody says that But give
- 30:22Speaker 2: me Clemson, plus 10. UCLA, California, go under 53.5. Again,
- 30:28Speaker 2: old-fashioned Pac-12, slugfest, two pretty good quarterbacks. We'll see what
- 30:33Speaker 2: Nico Amaliava does in this version of UCLA football. California,
- 30:38Speaker 2: we talked about their quarterback earlier. He's on that top
- 30:40Speaker 2: 20 list, under 53.5. Give me Ole Miss to cover
- 30:43Speaker 2: the 7. I think Ole Miss covers the 7 versus
- 30:46Speaker 2: Louisville on Sunday. And then give me SMU to cover
- 30:50Speaker 2: the 3.5. and win outright down at Florida State. That's
- 30:54Speaker 2: your WIMS winners for this week. That's 11 locks. It's
- 30:57Speaker 2: 11 wins. JC, get on the board. Everybody get on
- 31:01Speaker 2: the board. It's winners galore. You're going to win a
- 31:03Speaker 2: lot of football games this weekend. That's the WIMS winners.
- 31:05Speaker 2: They're out on social media. College football picks week one.

- 31:36Speaker 1: It's time to get back in the game with Jake
- 31:39Speaker 1: Wimberly and the afternoon drive. That's entertaining. On the station
- 31:42Speaker 1: that specializes in the Mississippi sports you love.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Now we're talking.

- 32:27Speaker 2: Get him on X at BillBender92, the sporting news. And,
- 32:31Speaker 2: of course, they'll have you covered wire to wire for
- 32:32Speaker 2: college football. Bill, it's here. College football, I know you're
- 32:35Speaker 2: on a short schedule, sir. And, of course, your schedule
- 32:37Speaker 2: will tell you. We're about to kick off and play ball.
- 32:41Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, but, hey, I like talking to you
- 32:43Speaker 4: every week. So thanks for fitting me in. Let's get
- 32:46Speaker 4: to it.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Absolutely. All right, so, Bill, let's go tomorrow night. We're
- 32:48Speaker 2: not even going to talk the LSU stuff. We'll talk
- 32:50Speaker 2: LSU Clemson. But when you look at tomorrow night, Colorado
- 32:54Speaker 2: versus Georgia Tech, that's a game where Georgia Tech is
- 32:57Speaker 2: a pretty big favorite. That totals at 50-and-a-half. It's a
- 33:00Speaker 2: big year for Deion Sanders. You know, I saw a
- 33:02Speaker 2: stat the other day that said they had lost somewhere
- 33:04Speaker 2: around 60% to 65% of their, you know, collective viewing
- 33:07Speaker 2: eyeballs since the time he arrived in Colorado. Can they
- 33:11Speaker 2: make a game of this tomorrow night against Georgia Tech?
- 33:14Speaker 4: I think so. They need a quarterback to play the match.
- 33:16Speaker 4: They didn't have that last year. Colorado quarterbacks averaged 17 touchdowns,
- 33:20Speaker 4: 11 interceptions. The year before, Shador threw 37 touchdowns. So
- 33:24Speaker 4: for all of the jokes about Shador Sanders, there's no
- 33:28Speaker 4: doubt he was a really good college quarterback. And then
- 33:31Speaker 4: on the other side, looking to see how Alberto Mendoza
- 33:33Speaker 4: does in place of Haynes King. And then they have
- 33:38Speaker 4: Justin Haynes. He's a home run hitting running back. That
- 33:41Speaker 4: should be a fun game. The spread looks funny. I
- 33:44Speaker 4: think it's going to be a competitive, fun game.
- 33:47Speaker 2: This is Bill Bender talking college football. Of course, kickoff
- 33:50Speaker 2: is tomorrow, Wednesday edition of the program. Bill, Fridays typically
- 33:53Speaker 2: in college, we always say this all the time, is weird.
- 33:56Speaker 2: You can't really kind of put a finger on it,
- 33:57Speaker 2: but something happens on those Friday ballgames. Is there any
- 34:01Speaker 2: Friday game where there's a potential upset. Maybe Stanford taking
- 34:05Speaker 2: on Miami. Miami's a big favorite. Or Fresno State gives
- 34:09Speaker 2: USC a ballgame on those Friday night ballgames.
- 34:12Speaker 1: You're right.
- 34:13Speaker 4: I mean, you always catch a Friday night home dog.
- 34:15Speaker 4: They get it done. I am interested to see how
- 34:18Speaker 4: Stanford builds on that season opening win against Miami. A
- 34:21Speaker 4: team with a game under their belt at home. Miami's
- 34:24Speaker 4: flying all the way across the country with Darian Mensah.
- 34:27Speaker 4: So there could be.
- 34:30Speaker 4: That could be fun, and I think it will be fun,
- 34:32Speaker 4: but Miami will win. It's really hard, Jake, this weekend
- 34:36Speaker 4: to find that upset. There probably will be one. It's
- 34:39Speaker 4: college football, but it is a brutal week in terms
- 34:42Speaker 4: of point spread. When you look in the average point
- 34:45Speaker 4: spread for top 25 teams, not even counting the FCS ones,
- 34:49Speaker 4: it's like 26 points per game.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and look, one that may fly under the radar.
- 34:53Speaker 2: What about Toledo? They're getting 10 against Michigan State. Could
- 34:57Speaker 2: Toledo maybe come out with a win against a Big
- 34:59Speaker 2: Ten team.
- 35:00Speaker 4: Yeah, they got a fun coach too. Mike Jacobs, their
- 35:03Speaker 4: new coach that replaced Jason Candle. They'll be ready to play.
- 35:07Speaker 4: And so Fitz, that is one that if you're looking, maybe.
- 35:12Speaker 4: Michigan State's made a tradition of that Friday night home opener.
- 35:15Speaker 4: I think Pat Fitzgerald breathed a little bit of a
- 35:17Speaker 4: new life into them. But Toledo's solid program, solid team.
- 35:21Speaker 4: So that could be interesting. You know, other than that,
- 35:24Speaker 4: going to watch Oklahoma on Friday night. Big game there
- 35:28Speaker 4: for them. Not a big game. I mean, a tune-up
- 35:29Speaker 4: for them. to get ready for Michigan. So we'll see
- 35:33Speaker 4: a healthy John McPier again.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Auburn hosts Baylor. D.J. Lagway coming back to the SEC
- 35:39Speaker 2: in week one with Dave Aranda. Dave Aranda has said offseason,
- 35:43Speaker 2: Florida kept him in a box. They kept him in
- 35:45Speaker 2: a straight jacket. We're going to unleash D.J. Lagway, Byron Brown,
- 35:49Speaker 2: Alex Golish, Auburn. They've got the home crowd behind them.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Any chance Baylor can keep this close?
- 35:56Speaker 1: I think they will.
- 35:56Speaker 4: I mean, they did a better team last year, right?
- 36:00Speaker 4: I think they did win that game, right? I'm blanking
- 36:03Speaker 4: right now. Pretty sure Baylor beat them last year in Waco.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Alex Gullish has been a really hot name for Auburn
- 36:12Speaker 4: this offseason. I love his press conferences. I love his personality.
- 36:16Speaker 4: I think he's the guy to bring that program forward.
- 36:18Speaker 4: back into the light a little bit, and it might
- 36:21Speaker 4: take some time. So that is one of those games
- 36:24Speaker 4: that might get lost in the shuffle a little bit,
- 36:26Speaker 4: but the momentum around that Auburn football program is headed
- 36:30Speaker 4: in the right direction.
- 36:32Speaker 2: LSU, Clemson, with all of the drama around LSU, with
- 36:36Speaker 2: everything that's going on at the SEC in court tomorrow,
- 36:38Speaker 2: LSU is a 10-point favorite today against Clemson. Clemson's kind
- 36:42Speaker 2: of been written off here. This is the lowest ranking
- 36:45Speaker 2: we've seen in some time in the preseason for Clemson,
- 36:47Speaker 2: the lowest ever. odds to win the national title, lowest
- 36:50Speaker 2: of everything. Can Clemson get into the fourth quarter, Bill?
- 36:53Speaker 2: And Saturday night, all of America is now dialed in
- 36:57Speaker 2: outside of LSU, probably rooting for Clemson and Davo Sweeney
- 37:01Speaker 2: to pull that off.
- 37:03Speaker 1: My buddies are.
- 37:04Speaker 4: You know, in Big Ten country, you're talking about Ohio State,
- 37:07Speaker 4: Notre Dame, a few Michigan and Michigan State fans sprinkled
- 37:10Speaker 4: in there all rooting for Davo. I mean, it's wild
- 37:14Speaker 4: because for years that wasn't the case up here. So, yeah,
- 37:19Speaker 4: I mean, they're going to have to run the football better.
- 37:20Speaker 4: They only had 31 rushing yards against LSU last season.
- 37:24Speaker 4: So they're definitely going to have to do that a
- 37:26Speaker 4: little bit better to have a chance to make it
- 37:28Speaker 4: a fourth quarter game. Could be fun, though. You know, LSU,
- 37:32Speaker 4: you never know how it's going to go with all
- 37:33Speaker 4: those transfers. Sam Levitt coming off the foot injury. Ken
- 37:37Speaker 4: Clemson dial up pressure, especially on the defensive line. Saul
- 37:42Speaker 4: Dabo's press conference this week. And, yeah, it is.
- 37:46Speaker 5: It's a.
- 37:47Speaker 4: This is the bizarre world we live in, Jake. We're
- 37:50Speaker 4: rooting for Dabo now up here in the north.
- 37:52Speaker 2: There's no doubt. Ole Miss taking on Louisville on Sunday. And,
- 37:56Speaker 2: of course, the Rebs are a seven-point favorite. This is
- 37:57Speaker 2: a really good Louisville team. They won nine ballgames last year.
- 38:00Speaker 2: They had three of the four losses that they had
- 38:02Speaker 2: came within less than a field goal. They can return
- 38:05Speaker 2: a pretty good running back. They've got a good coaching staff.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Can they take this game into the fourth quarter and
- 38:10Speaker 2: scare the daylights or even pull out a win against
- 38:11Speaker 2: Ole Miss?
- 38:13Speaker 4: I think they could, but I like that Ole Miss backfield. Sorry,
- 38:17Speaker 4: I almost called an LSU. I know who's coaching where.
- 38:20Speaker 4: Ole Miss, because I like Trinidad and Keewan so much.
- 38:25Speaker 4: I think they are the best battery made backfield in
- 38:27Speaker 4: the country. I like their defense, Carnero, good weapon in
- 38:30Speaker 4: a game like this, kick cup field goals. But all
- 38:33Speaker 4: that said, I liked Louisville too. So this is a
- 38:35Speaker 4: really tough game for me because I spent the summer
- 38:38Speaker 4: talking about what an ACC sleeper Louisville could be. So
- 38:42Speaker 4: I think they can make this fourth quarter game still
- 38:44Speaker 4: give them the advantage to Ole miss. And, uh, you know,
- 38:49Speaker 4: I'm a little upset. It's up against, uh, Notre Dame,
- 38:52Speaker 4: Wisconsin at the same time, because I want to watch
- 38:54Speaker 4: both of these games equally.
- 38:56Speaker 2: No, there's no doubt.
- 38:56Speaker 4: One more.
- 38:57Speaker 2: We'll get you on your way. SMU, Florida state, uh,
- 38:59Speaker 2: SMU is a slight favorite three and a half. I mean,
- 39:01Speaker 2: it's a big one. That's, that's an understatement for Mike Norvell.
- 39:04Speaker 2: If they win the seat kind of cools, Kevin Jennings,
- 39:07Speaker 2: SMU come in. They've shown they're not scared of anybody
- 39:10Speaker 2: in the ACC. They're the favorite for, for a reason here.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Can they, can they deliver on that being the favorite?
- 39:16Speaker 4: Oh, we're going to find out. Um, I'm leery of
- 39:18Speaker 4: this game for a couple of reasons. One, because everybody's
- 39:21Speaker 4: kind of ripping on Florida state. They still ran the
- 39:23Speaker 4: ball effectively. Uh, last time they played SMU, they got
- 39:26Speaker 4: worn out and they are at home at labor day.
- 39:29Speaker 4: And it's kind of a, back-against-the-wall moment for Mike Norvell
- 39:32Speaker 4: and that program and that massive buyout that we keep
- 39:35Speaker 4: talking about. So I think Florida State, I would not
- 39:40Speaker 4: be surprised if they won. But, Jake, I just can't
- 39:43Speaker 4: do it. I think SMU's the better team. I think
- 39:45Speaker 4: they've got the... the better quarterback, and that will show
- 39:49Speaker 4: up even in a nasty environment down there in Tallahassee.
- 39:52Speaker 4: Give me the Mustangs. But like I said, that's the
- 39:55Speaker 4: one that I'm like, you know, yeah, you have that
- 39:57Speaker 4: second thought in the back of your head. That's the
- 39:59Speaker 4: one I feel like this weekend.
