Speaker 1: So we're just expanding the word, making sure we keep the conversation going in our community.
• 2:14
  Speaker 2: For sure.

• 2:43
Speaker 2: Yes, Especially talking about wealth, talking about the gap, but also how we can develop actionable things for sure yeah.
• 2:50
Speaker 2: So tell us a little bit about your company and all that.
• 2:52
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, like I said, I have a company about 300 employees.
• 2:55
Speaker 1: I started it back in 1997.
• 2:56
Speaker 1: But through that company I did a lot of investing.
• 2:59
Speaker 1: I invested in real estate, private equity real estate.
• 3:02
Speaker 1: I obviously invested in the stock market.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: I actually wrote a couple of books.
• 3:07
Speaker 1: One book is titled why Should White Guys have All the Wealth?
• 3:11
Speaker 2: Drop that again, drop that again.
• 3:12
Speaker 2: I got to hear this one.
• 3:15
  Speaker 1: What's the title?
• 3:15
Speaker 1: Why Should White Guys have All the Wealth?
• 3:18
Speaker 2: How you Can Become a Billionaire Starting from the Bottom.
• 3:20
  Speaker 2: That's what I'm talking about.
• 3:21
Speaker 1: That book is unapologetically targeted to the unique experiences and challenges, and trauma within our community.
• 3:25
Speaker 1: Yeah, the unique experiences and challenges and trauma within our community.
• 3:27
Speaker 1: Yeah, and I wrote a second book I had so much to say because I've been wanting to write books for some time and it's titled the Millionaire Money Moves Supplemental Investment Guide, which is really four chapters.
• 3:40
Speaker 1: That talks about my investment strategies around stocks, entrepreneurship, real estate and private equity.
• 3:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so I'm definitely getting the book and y'all need to check it out.
• 3:45
Speaker 2: Check the links below.
• 3:45
Speaker 2: We, yeah, yeah, yeah, so I'm definitely getting the book and y'all need to check it out.
• 3:47
Speaker 2: Check the links below.
• 3:48
Speaker 2: We're going to make sure we got all the links out there so people can click it and they can buy it.
• 3:50
Speaker 2: Exactly but what would be one thing that they'll definitely take away from that last book that you wrote?
• 3:55
Speaker 1: Oh, that last book.
• 3:55
Speaker 1: What happened was I had so much to say because I've been reading books about investing since college.
• 4:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, mentors, that poured into my mindset.
• 4:04
Speaker 1: So when I graduated from college with a degree in computer science I worked out, was thinking about how am I going to turn, you know, this $36,400 a year salary into mimicking what my millionaire mentors did, who were rich in assets and poor in liabilities?
• 4:21
Speaker 1: So I created a roadmap and a game plan after reading lots of books, and so my book really is that roadmap and it really teaches people how to build wealth, starting as little as a paycheck, and it's a slow process but it definitely gets you to Destination Millionaire and beyond.
• 4:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, 100%, and I need a gym sound for this one.
• 4:40
Speaker 2: Can you remind me what you just said?
• 4:41
Speaker 2: You said something about assets and liability.
• 4:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, it landed with me.
• 4:44
Speaker 2: How did you describe them both?
• 4:46
Speaker 1: Well, I said that they were rich in assets and they were poor in bad liabilities.
• 4:50
  Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
• 4:51
Speaker 2: Now, if you are not listening to these concepts, you're going to learn the difference between liabilities and assets and let me tell you, most of us unfortunately fall in that category where we're liability up Right, but the mindset needs to shift to developing assets and making those assets get you those things that are considered liabilities so you can write them off and all kinds of stuff.
• 5:11
Speaker 2: But, man, that's definitely some great words of advice.
• 5:14
Speaker 1: I love that, and that's one of the things that hold our community back.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: We feel like we've got to be debt free before we start investing.
• 5:21
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 5:21
Speaker 1: Spending all our time listening to Dave Ramsey and Susie Orman.
• 5:25
Speaker 1: And so, while we're listening to Dave Ramsey and Susie Orman, the stock market's growing 300% from 2009 to 2022 or 2018.
• 5:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, so the whole point is you're paying debt.
• 5:34
Speaker 1: You should be basically paying offense, yeah, yeah, and building up your wealth.
• 5:39
Speaker 1: Correct, because if you do it right, your wealth can do the job of paying off your debt and provide you lifelong income.
• 5:44
  Speaker 2: That's what's up, so as a community.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: That's one of the things we do wrong.
• 5:46
Speaker 1: We focus too much on defense and not enough on offense, and so all we do is end up basically paying back the colonizers and never basically freeing ourselves financially.
• 5:57
Speaker 1: So that's the one shift we have to make.
• 5:59
Speaker 1: And it's interesting because I talk and I have a mentorship group called the Black Wealth Growth Challenge where I teach people how to build wealth, and I've got to for a whole long year.
• 6:07
  Speaker 1: We mentor.
• 6:09
Speaker 1: But one of the things that people struggle with is this concept of like not paying off all their debt.
• 6:14
Speaker 1: It's like they're so spooked by debt but they're not fired up enough about wealth.
• 6:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's the mindset shift that people have to understand.
• 6:25
Speaker 1: I'm saying, yeah, you've got to pay your debt, Come up with a debt payment plan, keep it consistent, put it on autopilot.
• 6:31
Speaker 1: But then all that excess cash, you've got to get really busy investing, because it takes time to compound it, to create the momentum that wealth gives you.
• 6:39
Speaker 1: Once you build up that momentum, your wealth grows exponentially.
• 6:42
  Speaker 2: Roger that.
• 6:46

  Speaker 1: That's what's up.
• 7:19
Speaker 2: I got two questions for you before you leave here, Just for our audience here.
• 7:23
Speaker 2: Do you come from wealth?
• 7:24
  Speaker 1: I don't.
• 7:25
  Speaker 1: My parents were.
• 7:26
Speaker 1: My dad was a son of a sharecropper.
• 7:28
  Speaker 1: I was raised.
• 7:30
Speaker 1: My dad was born in 1932, right in the heart of the Depression and raised on a farm and he got drafted in the military, went to college, got his associate's degree, worked as a parole officer.
• 7:42
Speaker 1: He was a lower middle class guy.
