Transcript
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to The Offices, a show covering the mighty Gulf, the NFL, pop culture, drinking culture and of course.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: I sure is.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you're your host, Alphar Tia, in myself.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: We're on, this is The Offices with Myself, Alphar Tia again, and Marit Brave, Marit How are you?
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing well, Alphar, you.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing great, and this is essentially the end of OTAs, so all there is from now until the end of the season for the show is speculation, because we are what six weeks away from training camp, something like that.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: We're great at speculation of.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's all there's going to be, really.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Half Lee's last availability where he wasn't very revealing, but we kind of learned that a lot of the rookies have taken steps forward.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of expected, right?
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: Considering how thin the roster is, but what did you take from from that last availability and essentially the end of OTAs?
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think we're left with a lot of questions.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: And that's to be expected with a team like the Miami Dolphins, where they're at, they're rebuilding, right?
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: This is a rebuilding process, 13 draft picks coming in, a whole bunch of undrafted free agents as well.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: If happily saying these guys are taking steps forward, that's good things for the Miami Dolphins.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: The Dolphins, if they're going to find success in 2026, are going to need these rookies, not only to play, but to play well.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: And if the rebuild itself is going to be successful, then you need at least half of these draft picks to hit.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: You'd love if three or four of these guys become studs, become superstars.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at Proctor and Chris Johnson, Jacob Rodriguez, and if you can find one of these receivers in particular, whether it's Chris Bell or Caleb Douglas Kevin Coleman, if one of these guys can stand out and become a quality contributor for the Miami Dolphins, then this was a good first draft to lay the foundation for the future of this team, and that's where we're at right now.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: So again, I feel like we talk about it every week.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Of it often is going to win a lot of games this upcoming season probably not, but it can still be a successful season if these rookies become quality contributors and if
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: the coaching staff and the front office, you know, Jeff Hathley and John Erick Sullivan, if they can prove themselves to be who we thought they were, really, who we need them to be in order for the Miami Dolphins to find their way back at the AFC East for the first time in who knows how many years.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's been quite a few.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: Trenica begins in six weeks.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: If Trenica begins in six weeks, which one of these players, if you saw was not on the first team, would you be the most concerned with?
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: Because I'll give you mine.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: I've heard some speculation that Chopra Robinson is not really cemented as a full snapgather.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: If that's not the case, then he's still we have a problem.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: Who's your guy in that group?
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I thought we were talking rookies, but Chopper Robinson would be quite concerning because he's a first round pick, right?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's a guy who you expect.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: And he's a guy who had a pretty solid rookie season, right, at least on the back half of his rookie season.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: He had six Saxons last 10 games.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty solid for a rookie, right?
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: And now the Dolphins of Lost, Jalen Phillips, they've lost Bradley Chub.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: They need Chopper Robinson to step up and beat a full-time player.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: And not just a full-time player,
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: impactful starter if this defense is going to take a step forward and if Chopra Robinson can't be that guy Then that's going to be really concerning.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think for me
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: maybe the most concerning would be quarterback position, right?
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's shock if Malik Willis turns out to be, you know, if he proves himself to be only a backup who can who can show up in spurts and give you a little bit of life, but he can't be a full-time starter moving forward.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: They've invested in him.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's not the biggest investment.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's a three year deal that's really kind of a two year deal.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: And it's for decent money, but not crazy money, right?
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: So if he ends up busting out, it's not the worst thing in the world because then the dolphins set themselves up for a high draft pick in what's supposed to be a good quarterback draft.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: So it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but I just, I want this position to be solved.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: once and for all, at least for the next five, six, seven, ten years.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: And if Malik will as can be that guy, considering he is still a young player, that's going to allow this team.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to allow the Dolphins to skip a few steps in this rebuild.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I'm really hoping for.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: And it would be cool if the Dolphins could finally have a dual threat quarterback not named
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan Fitzpatrick, but a general and dual threat quarterback that can bring us into this 21st century of modern day NFL football because as much as I was a fan of to a tongue of I lower he certainly wasn't that he wasn't a mobile guy He wasn't somebody that was going to pick up a lot of yards on the ground and anybody listening to this podcast right now.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: You're well aware of that fact
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's important also to note, a lot of people that have talked then speculated that Malik Willis will be in a, or have asked for Malik Willis to be in a full-blown quarterback competition with quintuers.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, if we do actually get something similar to that, man, what a failure this entire off season has been.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: And for that matter,
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: these hires you have to start looking at them kind of sideways because that's who the who the hitched are wagging to for the next two years essentially by paying him twenty million dollars and you know if he's not going to be it and when you were just going to win the job he's not by the way that's not happening.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: But if he were, she's, she's gonna have a $20 million back up for next year.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that that will be a pretty massive failure.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I completely dismiss all calls for any kind of quarterback competition for Malik Willis because he shouldn't have any.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: You agree, right?
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I fully agree.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: People talk about Quinnewers like he was a first round draft pick.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: Quinnewers was a seventh round draft pick, guys.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like anybody out here saying, oh, well, Quinnewers, you know, he's good enough to compete with Malik Willis.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: You're completely off-base here because Malik Willis was paid
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like a starter, a low-end starter, but he was paid like a starter and when he did his opportunity to start in Green Bay for that organization which at the time employed Jeff Haffley and John Ayrich Sullivan.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Malik Willis was a top five QB in the league.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: Very small sample size.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: I know, but if Malik Willis can't overwhelmingly beat out a seventh round second-year player
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: then like you said out Houston we have a problem and not only do we have a problem but you might as well just blow it up all over again.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah pretty much.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now I told you about what would concern you headed into training camp.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'll give you another concern.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: Don't you feel as if, if you look at the roster and, you know, not to go over it with a fine tooth comb.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: But if you look at the roster, I would say that the bottom 8 or 10, which are guys that, and I understand this, those are guys that are going to get released.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: Those are guys that are going to get cut in training camp.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Don't you feel as if,
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: they can build up a better bottom end of the roster headed into training camp to give you a better look because it's kind of non-descript past like the four the top four guys at each you know each position unit you agree right?
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: Sure and it's one of those things double-edged sword right where when you're a bad football team and like you said the bottom eight to ten guys on your roster
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: you do have the opportunity to replace these guys, right?
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you do have the opportunity when cuts happen, maybe not before training camp, but after training camp, when these teams trim their roster, there's gonna be guys that are let go who could potentially be impact players for this version of the Miami Dolphins, right?
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: Are they gonna be all world players?
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: And most likely not, but,
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: You do have the opportunity to make this roster better and John Erick Sullivan.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like is the right guy to do that You know, he's not going to be sitting on his hands doing nothing.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: We've already seen them kind of churn the bottom of the roster a couple times this off season So I do think once these these cut downs happen with other teams Maybe in that wide receiver room, which I don't know
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: from reports, these rookie wide receivers are leaving more to be desired, you know, and I'm saying out like they're not really, they're not blowing the doors off of the facility here and obviously Chris Bell coming back from the ACL and he's not at full speed yet.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, he's a guy that could change the the equation in the wide receiver room if he doesn't end up being somebody
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: The John Eric Sullivan is going to have plenty of opportunities, plenty of opportunities after cut down day to turn the bottom of this roster and try and get a better foundation for the 2026 Miami Dolphids.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Will he be able to do it?
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: I hope so.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: And like I said, I do believe he is the right guy for the job.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: I've been pretty impressed with everything that he's done so far.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm hoping that we're not going to regret trading in a while like that's that's my like that's my biggest concern as far as the moves that they've made in the Southeast and I hope that they're not going to regret it as of right now it's looking kind of thin in that why we're shooting room, but just like like you said Chris Bell, you know, he's still back not online.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: He's, you know, we're watching him in training camp and I've said before like this is this is something that's worth monitoring
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: if he's not going to be ready for training camp and he's not going to contribute in training camp, he's likely not going to contribute in the regular season because rookies usually don't.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: So if a rookie is not going to contribute in training camp, he's not going to learn to playbook in training camp, he's not going to be up to speed with the offense in training camp.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a guy that you're just going to pencil in on week three and say, hey, we're going
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: So it's likely a lost season if that's going to be the case.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why I would be a little bit concerned.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: Any other concerns before we go to break here?
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: concerns that we could get into.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: But on June 10th, I'm going to stay positive about the rebuild.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to stay positive about the roster.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to stay positive about the new regime and hope and pray across my fingers, across my toes, that we finally got it right this time and we're headed in the right direction.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're going to call it right here.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to go to break on the other side of the break.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot to talk about.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: This is an action packed week.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: All right, like there's so much to do this weekend.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: But we're going to give you a little review of a match that I spoke about last week on the show.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe we touch on to UFC.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe a little World Cup.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we, you know, we wish some some bad juju on the New York next tonight.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: But first, these words.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: And we're back.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Marick, are you watching the NBA finals at all?
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: Because the next are heaping a bunch of bad luck on themselves.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: This past week and including there is a I'm not going to say who it is, but there is a podcaster next podcaster that unintentionally by mistake read the wrong copy on the air for his calcium commercial and that copy said as the next get ready to win an MBA championship tonight as they're up 30
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: in the series yeah so are you enjoying this as much like they have to lose tonight right like to give us to give us the full because if they went tonight I think they're winning the series right but if they lose tonight I think the collapse is upon us and you're gonna see a meltdown of epic proportions in New York are you wishing this as much as I am?
- 13:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, as a avid NBA watcher in the 90s and as a bull's fan in the 90s, I hated the next just as much as you probably hate the next half as a as a Miami heat fan.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not going to sit here and wish for the New York next to to win a championship and to and to do well.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm not a big fan of any New York sports teams as I sit here and watch my guardians get swept by the New York Yankee.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: I would love it if the spurs could even up the series tonight and bring some more bad juju to these new york nicks But that that shit's funny the podcaster messing up the calcium you read.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty good.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: I dig that Yeah, and I can see how that could happen.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: It just means that calcium sent out the wrong read and You know, he chose it to he chose to read it well paying attention.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: So he basically did a
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: Ron Burgundy, a rumor from that scene.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: An old fucking ship.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: I want he looks right into the camera and he says, No fucker.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'll send the ego.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: This guy basically said, go fuck yourself.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: New York next.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I'm wishing the worst, okay, I'm wishing the worst, but there's a little rumor going around.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think we could do 30 seconds on for the Panther offseason talk.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: So a little rumor going around that the panthers might be trading for Dylan Larkin.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Is that, does that move a needle?
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Or would you like like maybe a big move for Halibut for a good goalie for next season?
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Or just put the band together with with a good Chuck brothers.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the Panthers had so many injuries this past season that I kind of just want to run it back.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was working a couple of years ago, and last year as well, like, you know, I don't think things are broken.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think I think people were injured.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think their bodies were broken, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they're going to be back with the vengeance in X season.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: So with my limited hockey knowledge, that's my advice.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: Just say, fucking, I need to pay him back together.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if I know Bill Zito, he's not going to stand put.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: Bill Zito is going to look at it and says, you know what?
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, bringing it back, you know, running it back is probably a good idea, but I don't want to stay stagnant and I'll add something to this team.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: Something big to this team.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I do expect them to do something.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: And we all know we're on Yannison to the Kumpo watch as he fans.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: So we shall see how that works.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: You excited for the World Cup?
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: I am.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a huge fan, but I love watching it.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: And the Pump and Circumstance, I don't know if you've been on Twitter, have you been following that German tourist Freddie?
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: Have you been watching it?
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen a lot of things, yeah.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: And it's...
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Just like Twitter, there always has to be a couple of assholes to just pipe in and say, oh, this guy's just engaged in farming.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's a fake.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't think he's a fake because he's meeting JJ Watt for like lunch.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: So like this guy's like a real, he's like the real thing.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: You join like this whole run up to the world cup.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to enjoy this thing.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, my favorite thing is are the memes where people are talking about Europeans discovering like American culture for the first time and like somebody very specifically was like Swedish people trying ranch dressing and they're like, oh my God, this is nectar, nectar from the gods.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: That one hits close to home here.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in the Midwest, we put ranch on everything.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: My youngest son put ranch on his pancakes and thought it was the best thing in the world.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: which that's gross for me.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: Don't don't don't let me in that bucket.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, all these Europeans figuring out how America does business.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a big fan of that.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: I dig it.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not a ranch guy.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a more- I'm more of a blue cheese guy.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: I like blue cheese.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like ranch.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's just- Oh, I love blue cheese too.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but uh, so this is going to be fun.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think that the world cup is going to be a fun event.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you saw it, did you see the friendlies from that they've been doing in college stadiums?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they did win an Auburn.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: They had to eagle fly down from...
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: from from the the top of the the stadium.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you saw that last night of Leonardo Messi and Argentina, they played against Iceland last night and they were playing in front of like 88,000 people in Auburn.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like it begs the question, why didn't they do the the world cup and all these college stadiums because that would have been awesome.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna do it in prostating because they got to get the money.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought that looked awesome last night.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you really want a true American experience in terms of atmosphere and rock as crowds, you gotta do it in these college towns.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta let the college kids come out, take their shirts off and swing them, swing them around their heads and act like crazy people.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: Then you'd really be getting a truly authentic American experience.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I said that there is a lot going on.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: And trust me, we're going to give you this review of the all Grande Americana versus all Grande Americana OG match, which has, you know, it has taken a life of its own.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to give you the the Dave Meltzer ranking for this match, which I don't understand, but he did give it.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: But last thing before we get to that you see White House excited you're gonna be watching Sunday night I'm I can't wait like I'm I'm having food catered like this is gonna be a lot of fun I don't give a fuck about the politics at all I just think it's gonna look really fucking cool.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, just like they had a boxy match just like Ussick
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: In front of the pyramids a couple of weeks ago, which I thought looked awesome.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is going to look great and Basically all the people on Twitter say, oh, this doesn't look good.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't it looks fucking awesome.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to look great Okay, they even got the Zach Brown band Gonna do the National Anthem.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Come on.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like this thing's going to be fucking great.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: You're excited for that This isn't on Netflix, right?
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like you got a buy this one.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be on Paramount plus
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I got Paramount Plus.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be watching then, um, listen, like, yes, I will also leave politics out of it.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: I do think this does resemble the movie, idiocracy from a couple decades ago where it's like, if you want to told me, and when I was a much younger man that one day we would have UFC on the White House lawn, I would have been like, you're fucking nuts.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what?
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: It is fucking nuts.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's happening.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: But it's also kind of fucking cool.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I will be tuning in.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know anything about these fighters.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a big MMA guy, but I am a big spectacle guy, right?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like I watch every time some evil, can evil motherfucker jumps over a bunch of buses in his motorcycle or when some dude wants to walk a tight rope across a canyon.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm there.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm watching because I just wanted to...
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of which, Travis Perstron will be there in the pre-fight.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: And he's going to backflip his bike on the White House lawn as well.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, there you go.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: He sure do.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: He absolutely should because if you want to make it even more like anyocracy, that's exactly what you would do.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: All for it.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just be absolutely batship fucking crazy.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: All eyes are on the US right now.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, like we said with the world cup.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: So why don't we just really show what we're all about?
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: We're all about the.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: completely ridiculous, and this isn't anything new, right?
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like you think back to the years long before we both were born of PT Barnum, right?
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: And him taking the spectacles all around the US.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: And you've got the human ape or whatever it is, right?
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's just completely covered in hair.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: And this is what this is, right?
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's a spectacle.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's meant to make you go, what the fuck is happening?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm here for it.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm here for it, 100%, I'm totally down with the complete absurdity of a UFC event being on the White House lawn.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: I will watch and I will be shocked and amaze just like everybody else.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: As a production junkie, I've been, if you've been on Twitter, you've been looking at what people have been sneaking onto Twitter, video of them doing the rehearsals for the lights, which just means that they're checking the lights for TV.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: Man that thing looks awesome like that thing is going to look awesome the thing that they call the claw they flew from I think Belgium to Philadelphia and they they trucked it from Philadelphia to the White House lawn and they had to build it there It looks awesome.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: It absolutely it looks absolutely great and I can't wait to see the production of this event like it's going to look great.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's absolutely going to look great.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Now moving on to our our review
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Grande-American versus, oh, Grande-American, oh, OG, Louvre Kaiser versus, I think I'm, Chad Gable, I, my stuff is lagging.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: I, I lost you for like a good 45 seconds there.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I want to pause here.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: Do you got me here?
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: I got you, but it just keeps cutting in and out.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like the screen freezes, and then it like speeds up to try and catch back up.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want me to just hop, like pop out, hop back in?
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: Back up, I could, I could, I could drop you out.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: And now you should be even with me, because that moves it up, moves it along.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: You got me?
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just want to make sure that we don't, I'm hoping that everything's recording properly.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that is the recording.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking at it.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's recording good.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's recording properly.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: It, it, it, it, it does a pretty good job of, of it.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: So this match Dave Meltzer, he gave his, I don't understand.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: I, I always thought that his, his star reviews were that the best you could do was five stars.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: But he gave it five and three quarter stars and it seems like he's given some matches six stars.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: Do you know what this is about or maybe I'm uninformed in this like does it go to over five stars is that is that a thing is that actually a thing
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it must.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: It must.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think when it comes to Dave Meltzer, he just makes his own rules, right?
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's I despise star ratings.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really do.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't feel like star ratings are an accurate representation of of what we are trying to do in our business.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, it feels like Dave Melso tries to make a lot of these things all about himself and tries to make himself the focal point of the story, but when it's not, you weren't in there, Dave, you weren't in the ring, you weren't doing the suplexes and the top rope, high flying maneuvers, right, you were just sitting at home watching it like the rest of us, right?
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: So, not a fan of the star rating systems, not a fan of Dave Meltzer's ratings in particular, but I did watch the match, and I thought it was a good match.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: According to Dave Meltzer, it was the best WWE match of all time, and that is not something
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: that I'm on board with.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was a good match.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: I thought these guys told a good story, but in terms of best match in WWE history, absolutely not.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: That I'm not on board with that.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I think, uh...
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like one of my favorite matches of all time was I forget which I'm I'm I have a hard time with the WrestleMania numbers so I can't remember which one but when it was Rick flare versus Randy or I mean Randy Orden Randy much of my savage Randy Savage versus Rick flare in that WrestleMania men event.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: You remember the whole buildup where Rick Flare had to fake photos.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: The point is, it's just absurd, but it worked, okay?
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: That match alone is great.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like you go put together four Randy Savage matches.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: They were better than this match.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I did think it was a great match.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought the crowd really hyped it up.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: But is it possible that maybe it's a bit overrated?
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would say so.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: I've been reading a lot of reviews of the match and like I said Dave Meltzer says it's the best WWE match of all time it's not it's very good, but I thought the best part of the match like he said off was the atmosphere was the crowd was the storytelling was the emotions and that's really what this business is all about anyways it's not about the moods or
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: or the spots or things like that, it's about how it connects with you emotionally, right?
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: So if an audience member watches that and feels emotional afterwards and feels invested and connected with the performers, then they did exactly what they were supposed to do and they should be proud of themselves.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not trying to shit on their match and say it wasn't a good match.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: It was a good match, it was a great match.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: Best of all time, now I'm asking you, whoa, now, let's pull on the reins a little bit here, and let's not be prisoners of the moment.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't the best match of all time, but it was damn good, and both of those guys should be really proud of themselves.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, one thing I will say for the match is,
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: the run-ins sometimes like that could absolutely destroy like, you know, the match, the flow of the match, what you're, you know, what you're experiencing, you're like, I don't care about all these people, you know, you know what I'm talking about, right?
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, you got to run in and it's a running with a thousand people and you're like,
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: You almost like, you know what?
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I could time this and go to the bathroom.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't take a piss.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe when I get back from the bathroom, you know, this, all those nonsense will be over with and I could get back to watching the match.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it worked here because it was simple.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: It was quick, it flared up and then it just went away.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: Which I thought really, really worked.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought the coordination of the match was pretty damn good.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like there was no missteps.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think it's not a number one.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: If you remember one, let us know because I don't, I don't.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: No, I thought, and there was probably an agreement between both men before they went out there, but I thought a lot of that stuff in the beginning was a little on the unsafe side when when Gabel grabs the computer chair and throws it wheels first at Kaiser.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, man, if somebody does that to me, I'm getting up and I'm beating the shit out of you for real.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, don't,
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're probably was an agreement between both guys.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, this is supposed to be a blood feud, the culmination of this.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: We hate each other, you know, quote unquote in K-Fay bland.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: So let's really take it to each other because there was a couple times from both guys where it felt a little more on the unsafe side.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: But that's, you know, it's how it goes sometimes.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: Myself and and Rollins, we would do that often times when we were
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: in the midst of a blood feud we would we would say hey when we go out there let's swing on each other for real right like don't punch me in the nose don't hit me in the dick but but you know I'm gonna lay it in a little bit in here and you know we want to make this feel realistic for the audience and it kind of felt like that's what Gabel and Kaiser were doing in the ring there and it worked it worked it made you feel like
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, speaking of some of the stuff might be real.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: I back, you know, I rewinded, I fast forward, I kept looking back and forth.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm almost certain, because they both got color.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: Checkable got a gusher, like that thing, that thing looked awesome.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: I am certain that the hard way to each other, you agree?
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I would.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the computer chair, hard way Kaiser for sure, there was a close-up of his eyebrow at one point and it looked like hamburger meat.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that color was genuine.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he was gigant on that one.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think that a, that a cable basically told, you know, Kaiser, you know, give me, give me one of those punches pretty good, because you could almost see the moment.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: because they tried to sell it as, oh, I do this drop toll hold, and then I hit myself with the edge of the, and they tried, the announcer tried to sell it.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: So you can tell that the announcer's were like, told like, hey, he's gonna get color here.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: So try to sell the edge of that of the steps, which is naturally, you hit the edge of the steps, like you can have all kinds of problems.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: but he didn't bleed off of that.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: You can see he bled before that.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: So like that exacerbated it.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like you see Chad Gables like Demit.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm bleeding like a stuck pig before the spot.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess that was the only misstep I guess.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it was a punch.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was clearly a punch.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: I also like how they went for.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's a mass firm, mass match.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: I love how they went further match it there for the masks aggressively like they should since it's a mask versus mask match and like you said the crowd was all in on it now what does it say that that the crowd is all in on it and it's two Americans that don't really fight a luchestile in the main event of a luchestile
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think really what it says is when you have a good story and you have good performers who can tug on your heart strings like that, I think that's what not only this business, but that's what the entertainment business is all about right it's all about making people feel how you want to make them feel at any given moment and those guys succeeded in doing that and it was fantastic you know it would it would
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: Again, not the best match I've seen of all time.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, I'll tell you what I think the best match is.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: WrestleMania 25 Shawn Michaels versus the Undertaker.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: In my opinion, that is the greatest professional wrestling match that has ever taken place.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: First one of the second one.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: The first one.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: The first one.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: The first one was the best one.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: And this was a very, very good, professional wrestling match.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: Quite possibly the greatest triple A match of all time.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: And there's probably some wrestling historians that are going to listen and tell me I'm wrong for
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: this reason or that, but I thought that it just, it went to show
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: how much professional wrestling, lucha libre means to Mexican culture because those fans bought everything.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: Hook line and sinker and those fans added to the atmosphere of that professional wrestling match making it to another level, right?
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: By how invested they were.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it goes to show you how much the Mexican culture, how much lucha libre and professional wrestling is ingrained.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: in Mexican and Hispanic culture and I think it just goes to show you that story telling is a live and well and you can do the coolest moves in the world but if you don't know how to use them in order to emphasize your story then you're really kind of doing it for no reason and these guys did it very very well and we saw the result of that and that's why they're getting the praise that they do rightly deserve
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Louvre Kaiser has the hot Mexican wife.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, her work, her match worked, you know, her stuff in the match worked.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, like, you know, because that's sometimes she brings family, I understand that she's done TV before.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: So she knows what she's doing.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: But sometimes she bring in family members and they could fuck up a match.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: because they laugh at the wrong thing or they smile at the wrong thing or they don't hit.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like I forgot which I forgot who brought their mom on to slap somebody and she missed the slap or it was it was two week and it kind of ruins it, you know, like you want the moment, you know.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: So you can see how, yeah, I could have gone sideways here.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: No, I think that thing worked.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: Here's the hot Mexican wife.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: He speaks Spanish.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he talks.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: He speaks Spanish with the fans.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: The whole entrance is worked with the Mariatis, all that shit worked.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was fucking great.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: I absolutely loved it.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now, do you think that it goes somewhere from here on to WWE eventually, like you didn't
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: I would keep it a triple A thing, right?
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think if you can make each show feel different and make it feel essentially an entirely different product, then you give fans a reason to watch everything, to watch all of it, right?
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: But if triple A starts to feel just like Monday night raw or Friday night Smackdown, then people go, they pick and choose what they want to watch, right?
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: these types of storylines in AAA and we've already seen Chad Gable back on WWE TV as Chad Gable and he's kind of he's bringing it a little bit, right?
- 35:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's talking about how he respects Lucha Libre and Mexican wrestling and Mexican culture on RAW, so you're getting a little bit, but I would keep
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: Grande, Americana, in AAA.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'd give them another feud with somebody else and really let those fans think their teeth and into the character and let them become the the whole co-gen of up triple a Yeah, and chat cable.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think could work I've said so last week, man, there's a bunch of things you could do with chat cable because the guys so good the guys You know, now he's gonna look good in the ring against you know Roman Reigns.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_00]: No, he's not
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's not going to look good in the ring with like a Brock Lesnar or or Jacob Fattu, he might not, he might even, you know, he might not even look good against in the ring against certain guys like like Seth Rollins, but I know he could work a lot of those guys in the mid card and I think that's what they've relegated the intercontinental title for like I don't even know who the whole the intercontinental champion is right now is a penta still, but he dropped that thing already like I don't know, do you know?
- 36:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you froze there for a second.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: Do you hear me now?
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: Merit.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he froze.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll bring him down and I'll bring him back off.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: All right, are you back?
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, we are in the midst of a torrential downpour in Iowa right now.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's messing with my internet connection to tell you the truth.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: So anybody who stuck with us through this entire episode, if there's any technical difficulties, that's the reason why.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: So we appreciate you, you're roughing it out with us.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I was asking you do you even know who the hell the intercontinental champion is is a Penta is Penta the intercontinental championship good shot that might be it.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go for it.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's where Chad Gable can go next.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you can bring a little bit more prestige to that title and Penta is a really really good wrestler.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, like they could put on matches.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, it's Penta.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: You asked me that last week.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know the answer.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: What kind of wrestling genius am I?
- 37:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so Chad Gable, I think, I think has a future on getting in onto some of these cards.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: Going forward, the guys really, really talented.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's just, you know, it's a WWE man.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not tall, you're not big.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're not gonna pay you no mind.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's going to work for him and like you said, Louis guys are back in AAA.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: He has his wife lives down there.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: So he's already moved down there.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, he's he's loving life.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: On him.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think we're done.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're you're in a
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: You got to get out of that for now.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think next week we'll start speculating on what the roster's going to look like.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: And who plays what going forward?
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll have results from the UFC White House show.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: We'll know pretty much what's happening with Team USA in the World Cup.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, we're not planning to talk about next week.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: Plenty.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: Plenty.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: But, till then.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: Peace.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for listening to the Offseason, American Out.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Until next time, raise your fans, raise your glasses, and we'll talk to you next time.
