- 2:09Speaker 1: So wow, Sabers win this one for to three. And
- 2:16Speaker 1: again I don't have a co host tonight, so it's
- 2:18Speaker 1: just gonna be off the cuff for you guys here Again,
- 2:21Speaker 1: not the not the most coherent episode almost at midnight tonight,
- 2:26Speaker 1: but we're gonna hear from the two press conferences that
- 2:29Speaker 1: happened as well.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Head coach Lindy.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Ruff of the Buffalo Sabers as well as Mattia Samuelson
- 2:33Speaker 1: and Tage Thompson. We'll hear from them as well, get
- 2:37Speaker 1: their postgame thoughts on a wild third period. And again,
- 2:42Speaker 1: as I mentioned off the top, the Sabers a massive
- 2:45Speaker 1: comeback in the third period to be able to win
- 2:47Speaker 1: this game by a four to three final. Boston gets
- 2:49Speaker 1: the late goal there in the dying seconds to make
- 2:53Speaker 1: it a four to three game, but Buffalo scored four
- 2:55Speaker 1: unanswered goals and and broke a record tonight that I'll
- 2:59Speaker 1: that I'll get into late. But three goals in four
- 3:01Speaker 1: minutes and thirty four seconds just bedlam there at key
- 3:05Speaker 1: Bank Center tonight. From the first playoff game in downtown
- 3:09Speaker 1: Buffalo since April of twenty eleven. So the fans were
- 3:13Speaker 1: just dying for this moment, for this opportunity to have
- 3:16Speaker 1: obviously a playoff game in Buffalo. The party was rocking
- 3:20Speaker 1: outside hours leading up, and it took the Sabers a
- 3:23Speaker 1: little bit of time. The fans were rowdy, the fans
- 3:25Speaker 1: were anxious, but they finally got it going there near
- 3:28Speaker 1: the end of the game. And just if anybody is
- 3:31Speaker 1: in the comments section was at key Bank Center tonight,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I would love to know what the reaction was tonight
- 3:36Speaker 1: from downtown at the arena. Just I'm sure it was
- 3:39Speaker 1: an amazing atmosphere, even if you're outside at the party.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'd love to hear from you guys as well, just
- 3:44Speaker 1: as far as what the atmosphere was like, because obviously
- 3:47Speaker 1: TV doesn't really do it justice, but I would love
- 3:50Speaker 1: to be I'd love to have been in that building
- 3:52Speaker 1: tonight or around it. I'm sure it was something special
- 3:55Speaker 1: that fans have been waiting fourteen seasons for. So I'm
- 3:59Speaker 1: gonna try to to just I guess, recap and react
- 4:03Speaker 1: to what this The end of this game was again,
- 4:06Speaker 1: still trying to put my thoughts together about an hour
- 4:08Speaker 1: later after the game full disclosure here, So I wasn't
- 4:11Speaker 1: even gonna go live for this, but I figured, you
- 4:13Speaker 1: know what, after a game like that, I'm sure you
- 4:16Speaker 1: guys would just love to hear some live reaction from
- 4:19Speaker 1: what happened there tonight.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Again just.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah, We'll start with the game stats tonight because I
- 4:27Speaker 1: really want to talk about the scoring summary. But as always,
- 4:29Speaker 1: the game stats of this postgame are brought to you
- 4:32Speaker 1: by Janell Flooring. If you can get a better deal
- 4:33Speaker 1: anywhere else you don't know Jack, check them out at
- 4:35Speaker 1: JNL Flooring dot com or visit their Nagara Falls location
- 4:38Speaker 1: to begin your quality flooring project today. I'm sure Jack
- 4:40Speaker 1: was loving this as a Sabers fan himself, so I'm
- 4:42Speaker 1: gonna pull up the stats here just so I can
- 4:45Speaker 1: sort of have something to read off of here, bear
- 4:48Speaker 1: with me, and the Sabers led in the category as
- 4:54Speaker 1: far as shots for foremost of this game. They pretty
- 4:57Speaker 1: much dominated the Bruins in the shots on netcap category.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And this thing is way too small for me, so
- 5:02Speaker 1: I got to pull it up on the on the screen.
- 5:04Speaker 4: There there we go.
- 5:05Speaker 1: So again Buffalo outshoots Boston by a pretty wide margin there,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and I've got the wrong game up. See you guys,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm just messing up here, so apologies for that. But
- 5:17Speaker 1: for the Sabers perspective, the Jeremy Swayman really kept him
- 5:21Speaker 1: in this game.
- 5:21Speaker 4: He was unbelievable.
- 5:24Speaker 1: You know, what more can you say about the Bruins
- 5:26Speaker 1: starting goaltender and all that that contract to fiasco that
- 5:30Speaker 1: went on with them last season, and obviously last season
- 5:33Speaker 1: was a retooling, you know year for them, and the
- 5:35Speaker 1: Sabers get to play them in the first round with
- 5:37Speaker 1: the Atlantic Division being as powerful as it was, just
- 5:41Speaker 1: a thirty eight to twenty was the eventual total in
- 5:44Speaker 1: favor of the Sabers. Going to try to get it
- 5:46Speaker 1: for you guys here, so you can sort of follow
- 5:48Speaker 1: along with that, but thirty eight twenty face offs again,
- 5:51Speaker 1: the Sabers have been tested on the faceoff dot most
- 5:54Speaker 1: of this season, so that was obviously a point of
- 5:56Speaker 1: emphasis for their club to be able to try to
- 5:59Speaker 1: have some six us there forty seven point six percent
- 6:02Speaker 1: for the Sabers fifty two point four for Boston on
- 6:05Speaker 1: the dot.
- 6:06Speaker 4: The power play again that I'll touch on in.
- 6:08Speaker 1: The scoring summary was again their first power play was
- 6:11Speaker 1: very good. They had six shots on net on that
- 6:13Speaker 1: first power play, but as the game went on that
- 6:16Speaker 1: that top unit just continued to struggle and I got
- 6:18Speaker 1: to give the Bruins credit as well, like they did.
- 6:20Speaker 1: They did a solid job as far as being able
- 6:24Speaker 1: to really limit the Sabers having an opportunity for zone entries,
- 6:28Speaker 1: and I think that was a big part of what
- 6:29Speaker 1: happened in this game tonight. Don't mind the screenshots sounds
- 6:33Speaker 1: as I'm trying to pull everything up for you guys
- 6:35Speaker 1: here on the fly for this this epic post game
- 6:39Speaker 1: that I wasn't even planning on doing. But again, appreciate
- 6:42Speaker 1: everybody sticking around on the YouTube channel for this one,
- 6:45Speaker 1: or if you're listening the next day in your favorite
- 6:46Speaker 1: on demand audio platform waking up for your your Monday
- 6:49Speaker 1: morning shift, you won't even notice a difference. So with
- 6:53Speaker 1: that said, again, we'll continuing on here. The Sabers had
- 6:57Speaker 1: five takeaways as well as the Bruins, so both teams
- 7:00Speaker 1: were even on that, and they also had thirteen giveaways each,
- 7:02Speaker 1: so pretty even in that department, hits fifty three to
- 7:05Speaker 1: thirty eight in favor of Buffalo. I noticed that the
- 7:08Speaker 1: Sabers were very physical on more more. I guess they
- 7:13Speaker 1: were physical in the sense that they weren't just running
- 7:16Speaker 1: around trying to throw bodies and take stupid penalties, but
- 7:19Speaker 1: they were they were asserting themselves in a good way.
- 7:23Speaker 1: And I thought that that they really stepped it up tonight,
- 7:26Speaker 1: and they knew that the Boston was gonna take it
- 7:28Speaker 1: to them. They knew about the Bruins and and sort
- 7:30Speaker 1: of what their head coach Marco Sturm had talked about
- 7:33Speaker 1: with him coming into this game, saying that we're bigger,
- 7:35Speaker 1: we're more physical, and I think the Sabers, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 1: and Lindy Ruff sort of took the high road on that,
- 7:40Speaker 1: but I think I think they sort of used that
- 7:42Speaker 1: as fuel for what they were what they were planning
- 7:46Speaker 1: to do there. So I'm gonna pull it up for
- 7:49Speaker 1: you guys, here so you can sort of follow along
- 7:51Speaker 1: as I've got the right game this time. So thank
- 7:53Speaker 1: you very much for that one, Brandon. So again, that's
- 7:58Speaker 1: pretty much there with With with that, I mean, the
- 8:00Speaker 1: power play, we can.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Talk about that.
- 8:02Speaker 1: It's definitely been you know, I don't want to say
- 8:08Speaker 1: an area of concern because we've sort of had concerns
- 8:10Speaker 1: about it for the last three or four months, but
- 8:12Speaker 1: it was an area that I felt like the Sabers
- 8:14Speaker 1: needed to capitalize on if they were gonna have success
- 8:16Speaker 1: in the series. Well, in Game one they went over
- 8:19Speaker 1: four in the power play and they won a four
- 8:21Speaker 1: to three. So again, I do think the Bruins, if
- 8:24Speaker 1: they were to replay that last eight minutes of gameplay,
- 8:27Speaker 1: they'll want to have that back because to nothing on
- 8:29Speaker 1: the road, you've got it unlock.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Swayman was playing fantastic.
- 8:33Speaker 1: You thought that they were even if they gave up
- 8:35Speaker 1: a goal, you know, maybe that they were still gonna
- 8:37Speaker 1: be able to hold onto this thing. But that was
- 8:39Speaker 1: not the case as the Sabers used that momentum after
- 8:43Speaker 1: they finally got one past Swayman and it was just
- 8:45Speaker 1: an onslought after that and the sold out Key Bank
- 8:48Speaker 1: Center front a nineteen thousand and probably a couple of
- 8:52Speaker 1: more thousand outside was just waiting, and the Sabers obviously
- 8:56Speaker 1: fed off that the energy in the beginning of the
- 8:59Speaker 1: game as well, I think Sabers had to sort of
- 9:00Speaker 1: just get through it, get a couple of shifts in
- 9:03Speaker 1: for their guys, and just sort of settle down because
- 9:06Speaker 1: of all the emotion of what that was and how
- 9:09Speaker 1: big the crowd was early on. Just you know, you
- 9:12Speaker 1: can sort of get in your own your own emotions
- 9:14Speaker 1: on that and you don't want to wear yourself out
- 9:16Speaker 1: for a long game. So the Bruins, I thought, you know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: played a pretty good, good road game. They had a
- 9:20Speaker 1: couple more opportunities that they missed on Passernrock had some breakaways.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Geeky for some reason that his head down when he
- 9:26Speaker 1: had an ope and gaping that late in that first
- 9:30Speaker 1: period could have really opened it up for Boston. But
- 9:33Speaker 1: as far as that, that was sort of the game
- 9:35Speaker 1: stats there. The scoring summary tonight is brought to you
- 9:38Speaker 1: by the Nagre Employment Health Center, helping people find work
- 9:40Speaker 1: in the Nagara region.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Since nineteen eighty three.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Checkout throughut did a job board at EHC that ont
- 9:44Speaker 1: to find your next work opportunity today. Yeah, you're gonna
- 9:49Speaker 1: be seeing me do that a lot tonight. Guys, still
- 9:51Speaker 1: still recovering from a bit of a sickness. Excuse me
- 9:55Speaker 1: and pardon me in advance there. So if you do
- 9:58Speaker 1: hear me, take take a sip of a sip of
- 10:01Speaker 1: something there. It's it's because I still fighting something myself.
- 10:04Speaker 1: So again, the scoring summary tonight, you can see it
- 10:08Speaker 1: up on the screen there. Morgan Geeky got things going,
- 10:10Speaker 1: and I have notes, so I want to I want
- 10:12Speaker 1: to just read off some of my notes there. Geeky
- 10:15Speaker 1: got the scoring started for the Bruins there in that
- 10:20Speaker 1: first period, at the ten fifty two mark, halfway through
- 10:23Speaker 1: the first a little bit of a play where Paschernak
- 10:27Speaker 1: was just able to find Morgan Geeky out front, sort
- 10:29Speaker 1: of one of those I wouldn't say prettiest stuff setups,
- 10:33Speaker 1: but Morgan geeky guy that had thirty nine goals in
- 10:36Speaker 1: the regular season, and again he went through a pretty
- 10:39Speaker 1: big goal slump as well, but he's able to get
- 10:41Speaker 1: the Bruins that all important road goal. And they were
- 10:46Speaker 1: talking on the broadcast, the ESPN broadcast. Sometimes you might
- 10:48Speaker 1: want to start on the road, just because you have
- 10:50Speaker 1: a little bit less pressure. Obviously, the Bruins come in
- 10:52Speaker 1: as underdogs, but given their playoff experience as opposed to
- 10:56Speaker 1: the Sabers, who are still new with this, you knew
- 10:59Speaker 1: that they were they were gonna come out firing and
- 11:00Speaker 1: this was not going to be a second wildcard team
- 11:04Speaker 1: or a wildcard team excuse me, against a top seed
- 11:06Speaker 1: in the Atlantic Division, So you knew what to expect
- 11:09Speaker 1: from the Atlantic this season. There was five teams from
- 11:12Speaker 1: that division that made it the season, so it was
- 11:16Speaker 1: you know that this was not going to be a
- 11:17Speaker 1: walk in the park, especially for Buffalo being in their
- 11:20Speaker 1: first playoff experience, and now that they've gotten through a
- 11:23Speaker 1: game like this, maybe maybe we could throw that narrative
- 11:25Speaker 1: out the window. But that was the only scoring in
- 11:28Speaker 1: the first period. Nothing in the second as well. Zucker
- 11:32Speaker 1: at one point had jammed to puck into the net
- 11:35Speaker 1: office Swayman's pad. It was ruled right away no goal
- 11:38Speaker 1: because he sort of shoveled it in there. So that
- 11:40Speaker 1: was something that happened in the first period as well,
- 11:42Speaker 1: and seven shots on that for the Buffalo and the
- 11:45Speaker 1: first power play weren't able to capitalize, but that was
- 11:49Speaker 1: their best opportunity there.
- 11:50Speaker 4: On the man advantage.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Zucker got called for a late late hook in the
- 11:56Speaker 1: first period, given Boston a power play heading into the second,
- 11:58Speaker 1: but it was a quickly after Pablo Zaka went to
- 12:02Speaker 1: the box and for holding Alex Tuckstick, which ended up
- 12:08Speaker 1: going like seventy feet from where the actual play was.
- 12:11Speaker 4: I thought that was just a little bit interesting.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Again, just Buffalo had their second and third power plays
- 12:17Speaker 1: in that second period, and it just wasn't.
- 12:19Speaker 4: It wasn't crisp, It wasn't. The zone entries just weren't
- 12:23Speaker 4: good enough.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Boston was doing a good job of being able to
- 12:27Speaker 1: limit them being able to enter the zone.
- 12:29Speaker 4: It was.
- 12:30Speaker 1: It was just a really hard time for the Sabers
- 12:32Speaker 1: being able to set up. The second unit would get
- 12:34Speaker 1: out there late in the in the in the power play,
- 12:36Speaker 1: and they would end up having more opportunities, I guess
- 12:39Speaker 1: than the first unit was. So it was it was
- 12:41Speaker 1: definitely a struggle to watch. The fans were getting restless.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Obviously at that point they still hadn't had to scored
- 12:46Speaker 1: a goal yet, So when you're waiting for your first
- 12:49Speaker 1: playoff goal in fourteen seasons, you can understand why the
- 12:52Speaker 1: fans were a little bit antsy on that, especially with
- 12:54Speaker 1: the talent that the Sabers can put out on the
- 12:56Speaker 1: power play, but they continue to be over in that
- 12:59Speaker 1: even going back to the regular season. I think they're
- 13:01Speaker 1: in the twenties now. Of they haven't scored in twenty
- 13:05Speaker 1: straight power play I think it's at like twenty five
- 13:07Speaker 1: right now. Just not good enough for the Sabers on
- 13:09Speaker 1: the manned advantage. And as that goes along, they're definitely
- 13:13Speaker 1: gonna want to be able to have success on the
- 13:15Speaker 1: man advantage. It's gonna be paramount as we get this
- 13:18Speaker 1: get into this long, you're not gonna be able to have,
- 13:20Speaker 1: you know, four goal ten minute comebacks at the end
- 13:24Speaker 1: of every single game here, especially now that Boston I'm
- 13:28Speaker 1: sure they're not going to try to allow that to
- 13:29Speaker 1: happen again. So yes, Trevor, let's go Buffalo. Abslutely. So
- 13:37Speaker 1: we get into the third period, because this is what
- 13:38Speaker 1: everybody wants to hear anyway, again, the Bruins make it
- 13:42Speaker 1: to nothing early in that second or early in the
- 13:44Speaker 1: third period. Excuse me, where Elias Lindholm a minute eight
- 13:48Speaker 1: and is able to the cycle game from Boston. We
- 13:51Speaker 1: knew that that was gonna be a point of emphasis
- 13:53Speaker 1: for them. Pastornak finds geeky who stepped who was stopped
- 13:57Speaker 1: out front, but Lindholm was able to kind of shovel
- 14:00Speaker 1: the rebound passed Lucan in to make it to nothing
- 14:03Speaker 1: and right there as wow, I mean, two goals for
- 14:05Speaker 1: the Bruins on the road, really, you know, keeping that
- 14:09Speaker 1: the Key Bank Center crowd quiet when they were really
- 14:13Speaker 1: you know, just waiting for the Sabers to be able
- 14:15Speaker 1: to give them a moment here. But at the one
- 14:18Speaker 1: o eight mark of the third Lindholm makes it to
- 14:20Speaker 1: nothing for the for the Bees, and again Lucanan came
- 14:23Speaker 1: up with some big saves, a couple of them on posture,
- 14:26Speaker 1: knock on a break on some breakaways and even in
- 14:29Speaker 1: that third period to make sure that it was only
- 14:30Speaker 1: a two goal deficit for Buffalo. And that's when things
- 14:33Speaker 1: started to turn in the Sabers direction. They were able
- 14:36Speaker 1: to keep the puck in the Bruins. Turnovers really cost
- 14:39Speaker 1: him in this game three of Buffalo. All three of
- 14:41Speaker 1: Buffalo's goals, not including the empty netter, were all scored
- 14:44Speaker 1: I think off of off of turnovers for Boston had
- 14:47Speaker 1: the puck.
- 14:48Speaker 4: At one point and Buffalo was able to kind of
- 14:50Speaker 4: turn that over.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Tage Thompson scores on the wrap round as the Sabers
- 14:54Speaker 1: were able to keep the puck in just a really
- 14:57Speaker 1: nice nice play on the four check after the same
- 15:00Speaker 1: after the Bruins couldn't couldn't clear the puck out. Rather
- 15:03Speaker 1: the Sabers got it down low and Swayman was sort
- 15:05Speaker 1: of looking behind the net, didn't really know exactly where
- 15:07Speaker 1: the puck was, and Tage Thompson with that long reach,
- 15:09Speaker 1: is able to wrap that thing around and get the
- 15:12Speaker 1: Sabers on the board with seven to fifty eight left
- 15:14Speaker 1: and finally get the key Banks Center crowd off their feet.
- 15:17Speaker 1: And then shortly after, Tae Thompson picks up the puck
- 15:20Speaker 1: off the four check and Tuck after the after injury,
- 15:23Speaker 1: Peak couldn't get the puck out. He got the puck
- 15:27Speaker 1: and then for some reason just went to the went
- 15:29Speaker 1: behind the net, went went to the boards with it,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and Tage Thompson was able to get him off that puck.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Tuck was was strong in the fore check as well,
- 15:37Speaker 1: and he's able to find Tage Thompson out front is
- 15:41Speaker 1: Alex Tuk and he makes no mistake going under the
- 15:43Speaker 1: Paddis Swayman. I would say that this, considering the saves
- 15:46Speaker 1: he made in tonight's game, that would be one that
- 15:49Speaker 1: Jeremy Swayman would want to have back. He lifted his
- 15:51Speaker 1: pad just ever so slightly, and Alex Tuck was able
- 15:54Speaker 1: to shovel it right under the pad to make it
- 15:56Speaker 1: a two to two game, and at the fifteen forty
- 15:59Speaker 1: four mark and send this Key Bank Center crowd even
- 16:02Speaker 1: into a more of a frenzy, tying it at two,
- 16:04Speaker 1: and the Savers get two quick goals. They're to stun
- 16:06Speaker 1: the Bruins after they'd done such a good job of
- 16:08Speaker 1: having a road lead in the playoffs, having two nothing lead,
- 16:12Speaker 1: it was it was fun to see, so obviously that
- 16:17Speaker 1: was unexpected considering how well Swayman had been playing and
- 16:20Speaker 1: how well the Bruins had been playing. Two bad giveaways
- 16:23Speaker 1: in their own end. And it turns into two goals
- 16:26Speaker 1: for the Sabers and we got a tie game, folks,
- 16:28Speaker 1: And you know, shortly after that, but a minute to
- 16:31Speaker 1: minute later, Jack Quinn gets the puck. After this was
- 16:35Speaker 1: an unfortunate break. So I'm not gonna say this one
- 16:37Speaker 1: was completely on the Bruins. It was just an unfortunate
- 16:40Speaker 1: break as Elias Lindholm stick broke behind the net and
- 16:43Speaker 1: they weren't able to clear the puck out. Jack Quinn
- 16:45Speaker 1: sort of picks the puck up from the goal line.
- 16:47Speaker 1: He's able to cut down through the right circle and
- 16:51Speaker 1: he finds Mattia Samuelson. They're still announcing the last goal,
- 16:54Speaker 1: by the way for Taje Thompson, and Mattia Samuelson cuts down.
- 16:57Speaker 4: From the point.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Jason Zucker is doing a great job in front of
- 17:00Speaker 1: the net screening Jeremy swimming. He had no chance of
- 17:03Speaker 1: seeing this puck. The Bruins were still sort of scrambling
- 17:06Speaker 1: in their own end after that, Linholm broken stick and
- 17:08Speaker 1: Samulson makes no mistake and just makes it three to
- 17:11Speaker 1: two Sabers, And Wow, what an unbelievable moment for a
- 17:15Speaker 1: team that hasn't seen playoff action in fourteen seasons. You
- 17:18Speaker 1: can't script the game one any better than that. Being
- 17:21Speaker 1: able to come back from a two to nothing deficit.
- 17:23Speaker 4: The Sabers made it three to two.
- 17:25Speaker 1: At that point, Tae Thompson, with the goalie pulled for
- 17:29Speaker 1: the Bruins, is able to bank that the puck off
- 17:31Speaker 1: the glass in the defensive zone or out of the zone,
- 17:34Speaker 1: excuse me, and Alex Tuck with a burst of speed
- 17:37Speaker 1: is able to get that thing into the empty net.
- 17:39Speaker 4: To make it four to two at that point, which.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Was the empty netter and now I guess technically the
- 17:44Speaker 1: game winner because Pasturenoch after Thompson went to the box
- 17:48Speaker 1: with about eighteen seconds left, scored on a backhand shot
- 17:51Speaker 1: to make it four to three with eight seconds left,
- 17:54Speaker 1: so the Bruins cut it to a one goal deficit,
- 17:57Speaker 1: but it was really a four to two game at
- 17:58Speaker 1: that point, So I feel bad for anybody that had
- 18:01Speaker 1: the Sabers plus plus one and a half. I know
- 18:04Speaker 1: you're probably sick to your stomach right now, but for Saberland, unfortunately,
- 18:08Speaker 1: we're probably not not too upset about the Sabers picking
- 18:11Speaker 1: up the win, even though that they didn't cover the
- 18:13Speaker 1: one and a half of that. But yeah, just an
- 18:18Speaker 1: incredible scene down there at key Bank Center. Again, if
- 18:21Speaker 1: anybody was there, please let me know. I'd love to
- 18:23Speaker 1: hear your experiences from what was a wild game one
- 18:29Speaker 1: and what a way to start off the Stanley Cup playoffs.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I must say, just a lot of great games, even
- 18:34Speaker 1: in the other Atlantic game today, the Montreal Canadians come
- 18:37Speaker 1: up with a big victory on the road in Tampa
- 18:39Speaker 1: Bay with Slafkoffki's hat trick. Playoff hockey in the NHL
- 18:43Speaker 1: nothing like it. Just an unbelievable moment that that Sabers
- 18:48Speaker 1: fans and the Sabers organization have been waiting a long
- 18:50Speaker 1: time for.
- 18:50Speaker 4: We're in here. From Lindy Ruff a little bit later.
- 18:52Speaker 1: But he said that that was the sweetest playoff win
- 18:56Speaker 1: that he's had as a head coach, maybe because he
- 18:58Speaker 1: thought he would never get back to this opportunity and
- 19:00Speaker 1: being able to do it with the Sabers team for
- 19:02Speaker 1: a second to second stint around.
- 19:04Speaker 4: I must say these shot attempts.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Were in favor of Buffalo seventy to forty six on
- 19:09Speaker 1: this night, and again three goals in four minutes and
- 19:12Speaker 1: thirty four seconds for the Sabers.
- 19:15Speaker 4: This was also a historic.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Night for many reasons and maybe deja vu for Bruins fans.
- 19:22Speaker 1: This goal and the legendary and this win excuse me,
- 19:26Speaker 1: and the legendary may Day goal by Brad may back
- 19:28Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety three are the only third period playoff
- 19:31Speaker 1: comebacks in Buffalo Sabers history, and both were against the
- 19:34Speaker 1: Boston Bruins, so that's probably not a statistic that they
- 19:37Speaker 1: want to hear about, but just crazy that from nineteen
- 19:41Speaker 1: ninety three, these are the only two in Sabers history
- 19:44Speaker 1: to be able to have a third period come back
- 19:46Speaker 1: and take the victory. There was also another another stat
- 19:50Speaker 1: that I want to read off because it was there
- 19:52Speaker 1: we go. The Buffalo Sabers become the first team in
- 19:55Speaker 1: NHL postseason history to win in regulation time trailing by
- 20:00Speaker 1: two or more goals to zero, two or more goals
- 20:03Speaker 1: to nothing with eight minutes or fewer remaining in regulations.
- 20:06Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Unbelievable stat there for not only Sabers playoff history, but
- 20:13Speaker 1: NHL playoff history. So this, despite what the first fifty
- 20:18Speaker 1: minutes of this game was and had, Sabers fans had
- 20:21Speaker 1: to wait very patiently and anxiously for something to happen.
- 20:24Speaker 1: They finally got it there late in that period, so
- 20:27Speaker 1: and late in the third period. And for those people
- 20:29Speaker 1: who spent a lot of harder and money to be
- 20:31Speaker 1: able to get down to that rank and be able
- 20:34Speaker 1: to experience that, you definitely got your money's worth.
- 20:37Speaker 4: At the end of that one.
- 20:38Speaker 1: So that was appreciate everybody there being able to be
- 20:43Speaker 1: a part of that, because I'm sure it was it
- 20:45Speaker 1: was something that I wish I could have been a
- 20:48Speaker 1: part of. I'm sure that was an amazing feeling for
- 20:50Speaker 1: everybody down there in downtown Buffalo tonight.

- 25:03Speaker 1: as the video rights to this post game that I'm
- 25:05Speaker 1: gonna play you guys, So here, t Thompson and Mattia
- 25:08Speaker 1: Samuelson with their thoughts on after their Game one come
- 25:14Speaker 1: back against the Boston Bruins, and we'll come back and react.
- 25:18Speaker 3: To that, Tage? What is this about this team? Why
- 25:21Speaker 3: does it refuse to lose?
- 25:22Speaker 7: First off?
- 25:26Speaker 8: I mean, I think we've been in situations all season
- 25:28Speaker 8: that have prepared us for games like this. You know,
- 25:32Speaker 8: it's another level and the intensity ramps up. But you know,
- 25:35Speaker 8: we've been in situations where we've been behind them games
- 25:38Speaker 8: and found our way, you know, out of them. So
- 25:42Speaker 8: I think when you do that, you get.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Confidence and when you're in similar situations, you know you
- 25:45Speaker 3: can do it again.
- 25:52Speaker 9: Gears, well, how fun was it writing that momentum that
- 26:00Speaker 9: Age created with the two goals and then for you
- 26:03Speaker 9: with the crowd already still buzzing for you to score,
- 26:05Speaker 9: What did that feel like?
- 26:07Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 26:08Speaker 10: I think the crowd was great all night. Obviously obviously
- 26:12Speaker 10: Tom or guys going there, and the plays just erupted
- 26:14Speaker 10: and you can feel the energy building, you know. I
- 26:19Speaker 10: think as a group we thought once we crack them,
- 26:22Speaker 10: we could.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Roll from there.
- 26:24Speaker 10: And obviously Tom were guys going and the fans fans
- 26:27Speaker 10: helped a ton.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Yeah. I just tried to pile it on as much
- 26:31Speaker 3: as we can.
- 26:33Speaker 11: He just described like the mood in the locker room
- 26:36Speaker 11: of the second period, Grass.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Was saying, you know, no panic focus. Could you subscribe
- 26:41Speaker 3: it in your own words? Yeah, I mean similar to
- 26:44Speaker 3: what I said before.
- 26:45Speaker 8: I've been in situations like this most of the season
- 26:48Speaker 8: and you gained confidence from that, and I think it
- 26:52Speaker 8: was no different tonight, even though it's you know, a
- 26:53Speaker 8: lot of our first playoff games. The energy is a
- 26:57Speaker 8: lot better and the intensity is higher. But in between periods,
- 27:01Speaker 8: I thought we did a good job just staying pretty
- 27:03Speaker 8: even keel, you know.
- 27:05Speaker 3: To be honest, I thought we all play him for
- 27:06Speaker 3: the first two periods, controlled most.
- 27:10Speaker 8: Of the play and like Sammy said, now if we uh,
- 27:13Speaker 8: you know, we could get one, we'd probably get a
- 27:16Speaker 8: couple more. And obviously we wille he does a great
- 27:21Speaker 8: job keeping us in there until we can find our
- 27:23Speaker 8: first one, and just started to roll from there.
- 27:28Speaker 11: Taje Jesus, you talk about the team mentality after forty minutes,
- 27:32Speaker 11: but for you personally.
- 27:34Speaker 3: If you look at the two goals you scored, it
- 27:36Speaker 3: felt like.
- 27:36Speaker 4: You were really imposing your will, okay real.
- 27:39Speaker 3: In cage of efforts. So what was going through your
- 27:41Speaker 3: mind in terms of just what you want to do
- 27:45Speaker 3: in that period and just trying to impose your worth?
- 27:48Speaker 8: Oh, well, I don't think by any means those individual effort.
- 27:52Speaker 8: I think if you look at both those plays, it's
- 27:54Speaker 8: from both my linemates for checking and disrupting and causing
- 27:57Speaker 8: a turnover, and you know the right spoer put finds
- 28:01Speaker 8: me off their off their pressure.
- 28:03Speaker 3: And I think those two goals are exactly what we
- 28:07Speaker 3: wanted to do all night.
- 28:08Speaker 8: You put bucks behind them, found their d make a
- 28:12Speaker 8: tough night on them, and just hit the repeat button
- 28:15Speaker 8: on that. You know, you go back for enough pucks,
- 28:17Speaker 8: it's pretty exhausting and create loose pucks and get chances
- 28:23Speaker 8: from there. And fortunately they went in for us.
- 28:27Speaker 12: Mattias on your goal, obviously, you guys have tied the
- 28:29Speaker 12: game up. The crowd's going crazy. Moll manage in your favor.
- 28:33Speaker 12: How much were you on your toes and you know
- 28:35Speaker 12: attacking the net on that play and what did you
- 28:37Speaker 12: see in terms of getting the pass and you know,
- 28:40Speaker 12: making a play there when the team needed.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Uh?
- 28:45Speaker 10: Yeah, I saw twos or corner come out of the
- 28:49Speaker 10: corner hunting with the puck, and I'm not sure where
- 28:53Speaker 10: the winner was, but I thought it was pretty open.
- 28:55Speaker 13: There and.
- 28:57Speaker 3: I just tried to call for it.
- 28:58Speaker 10: Corner being unbelievable play and I thought I could slip
- 29:02Speaker 10: a short side there, and uh yeah, I mean the
- 29:06Speaker 10: fans are unbelievable, you know. Going out after we tied
- 29:09Speaker 10: it there, you could feel feel the energy within the group,
- 29:13Speaker 10: the belief within the group, and you can feel it
- 29:16Speaker 10: all game, but just the energy the fans provided just yeah,
- 29:21Speaker 10: I just kept trying to roll with that.
- 29:24Speaker 14: So Matias, what was it like when you guys saw
- 29:26Speaker 14: Tage's second one going and then Tage same question about
- 29:30Speaker 14: Patias's goal when you saw the third one going, Because
- 29:33Speaker 14: it just all happened so fast in a couple of
- 29:35Speaker 14: minutes there.
- 29:36Speaker 10: Yeah, Like I was saying, I don't think the belief
- 29:40Speaker 10: that was ever wavered. You know, we just tried to
- 29:43Speaker 10: stick up the process. Obviously, Tom made some really nice
- 29:47Speaker 10: plays there and stuck a couple in. I just think.
- 29:54Speaker 3: We just had a lot of belief within the group.
- 29:58Speaker 10: Yeah, I just tried to try to ride them on
- 30:00Speaker 10: right the moment with the fans and it worked that nice.
- 30:07Speaker 13: Hey, you grasp my set after the game that you
- 30:10Speaker 13: guys say to each other.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Dogs have to be dogs. How much have you guys
- 30:14Speaker 3: kind of.
- 30:15Speaker 13: Just embraced like when you're in those tough spots, being
- 30:17Speaker 13: those guys that can hold.
- 30:19Speaker 3: This team out. Yeah, I mean I think it's up
- 30:23Speaker 3: and down our lineup.
- 30:24Speaker 8: I think we uh, we want to go into games
- 30:27Speaker 8: being the guys that are going to make a difference.
- 30:28Speaker 8: And I think every guy in the NHL, especially on
- 30:32Speaker 8: our team, is.
- 30:34Speaker 3: The guy that wants to go over the boards and
- 30:35Speaker 3: make an impact every time they touch the sheet. I
- 30:38Speaker 3: think if you don't, then he probably shouldn't be playing
- 30:41Speaker 3: the sport.
- 30:42Speaker 8: So yeah, it's so a little mantra. We like to
- 30:44Speaker 8: tell each other and you know, see who can be
- 30:48Speaker 8: a game changer. And these are the kind of games
- 30:51Speaker 8: you live for. Do you want to be in these
- 30:52Speaker 8: games and spend a long time coming? So that was
- 30:57Speaker 8: it was a fun first one.
- 30:57Speaker 3: For sure. We're going.
- 31:00Speaker 7: Guys.
- 31:01Speaker 15: There are a kind of confidence that comes from having
- 31:04Speaker 15: played this type of game.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Obviously a different scenario because it's.
- 31:08Speaker 15: Playoffs, but this kind of game where you get down
- 31:10Speaker 15: but you come.
- 31:11Speaker 7: Back in it no matter what.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it's.
- 31:17Speaker 8: Every game means so much, It's every shift means so much,
- 31:21Speaker 8: and I think there's just way more desperation and you
- 31:25Speaker 8: never know what's going to be the turning point in
- 31:27Speaker 8: a series and.
- 31:29Speaker 3: In a game. I think for us as a as
- 31:32Speaker 3: a group, we just want to.
- 31:33Speaker 8: Make sure we're just focused on a shift at a time,
- 31:36Speaker 8: not looking too far down the road and not looking
- 31:38Speaker 8: in the rear view. I think that's kind of something
- 31:40Speaker 8: we've been doing all season that's gotten us to this point.
- 31:43Speaker 3: So we've had success with it, and that's it's kind
- 31:49Speaker 3: of mentality we need moving forward. Taow. I've half joking
- 31:54Speaker 3: about one of the narratives going in here was this
- 31:56Speaker 3: team lacking playoff experience. How much do you think you
- 32:00Speaker 3: prove that nerdive wrong today? Yeah, I mean.
- 32:09Speaker 8: Lack of experience. I mean we've been in a game
- 32:13Speaker 8: instead of prepared us for this. I think eight years
- 32:19Speaker 8: of adversity is it's enough experience to get you ready
- 32:26Speaker 8: for something like this. I think anytime you go for
- 32:29Speaker 8: eight years and not making playoffs and then it's finally here,
- 32:34Speaker 8: the last thing you want is regret and.
- 32:38Speaker 3: There's just a.
- 32:40Speaker 8: Heightened feeling of hunger. You just don't want to let
- 32:44Speaker 8: this opportunity slip. And thought tonight was really important to
- 32:49Speaker 8: make a statement and set our standard. I think we
- 32:52Speaker 8: still have another level to get to and we're just
- 32:54Speaker 8: going to keep trying every game to find another.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Level of This question is for about Tage and for Matia.
- 32:59Speaker 5: So a lot of firsts tonight, first playoff game, first goals,
- 33:02Speaker 5: first full.
- 33:02Speaker 6: Playoff game, and I to build the one, sustain that
- 33:07Speaker 6: and carry that into team two.
- 33:10Speaker 3: I think.
- 33:12Speaker 10: I think we learned a lot just about the heis
- 33:14Speaker 10: and loves in games and series. I think that was
- 33:18Speaker 10: a good learning lesson for us tonight. Yeah, just take
- 33:22Speaker 10: that into game too. There's now many times you're down,
- 33:25Speaker 10: there's the guys you're gonna make mistakes just about you know,
- 33:29Speaker 10: stepping up when you need to and making the right
- 33:32Speaker 10: play when you can. And yeah, just I mean there's
- 33:37Speaker 10: gonna be things that happened throughout this series, and I
- 33:39Speaker 10: think we learned a lot of that tonight.
- 33:40Speaker 3: But you know, the belief in the group never waivers.
- 33:46Speaker 11: Sage, Obviously, you don't dwell on it a lot in
- 33:49Speaker 11: the moment, but coming out for you know, buffalos first
- 33:52Speaker 11: playoff hockey game in fifteen years, was that.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Seem like just sort of coming out on the ice,
- 33:57Speaker 3: it was unbelievable. Generally, Noolitics back, to be honest with you,
- 34:01Speaker 3: kind to think about.
- 34:02Speaker 8: It all day the last few days actually, you know,
- 34:06Speaker 8: last half of the season, the fans have been unbelievable
- 34:08Speaker 8: and it's been so much fun to play in front
- 34:11Speaker 8: of them and be able to, you know, strength some
- 34:14Speaker 8: winning games for them and find ourselves in playoffs.
- 34:17Speaker 3: And I didn't know what the next level, I guess
- 34:23Speaker 3: for the fan base could could get to. And I
- 34:26Speaker 3: was pretty exciting to see.
- 34:27Speaker 8: Coming out from warm ups and it was already almost full,
- 34:31Speaker 8: just a ton of energy, and tonight's game was just
- 34:35Speaker 8: just full.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Of emotion, I think for everyone. So I was happy
- 34:39Speaker 3: that we could come on coming out on the right
- 34:41Speaker 3: side of it. And you mentioned, you know, on your
- 34:45Speaker 3: goal both of you your get.
- 34:46Speaker 13: Up, steep, your force and turnovers, like, did you have
- 34:49Speaker 13: a feeling as the game went on it was going
- 34:51Speaker 13: to take kind of some of those hard working, greasy
- 34:54Speaker 13: goals to get through on swinging because.
- 34:56Speaker 8: He was pretty locked in and really, yeah, he's a
- 34:59Speaker 8: great goalie, so I think anytime he's seeing clean shots.
- 35:02Speaker 3: You're you're gonna have a tough time beating them.
- 35:04Speaker 8: You gotta get traffic, you gotta get bodies there and
- 35:06Speaker 8: disrupt them and try to get him off his game
- 35:09Speaker 8: anyway you can, and it's just death by a thousand cuts,
- 35:14Speaker 8: I think, and you just keep wearing on them, wearing
- 35:16Speaker 8: them until finally crack them. And you know we did,
- 35:19Speaker 8: and I think as a group we knew if we
- 35:21Speaker 8: could get one it was it was going to go
- 35:23Speaker 8: our way.
- 35:23Speaker 3: So you know that's gonna be the same thing moving forward.
- 35:27Speaker 7: And it's uh.
- 35:28Speaker 8: I think in games like this, when when both teams
- 35:31Speaker 8: are playing really hard defensively, those are the kind of
- 35:34Speaker 8: goals you got to score. You gotta get around the
- 35:35Speaker 8: net and.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Let me get greasy, get greasy, says Tage Thompson and
- 35:43Speaker 1: ts Sam Wilson postgame press conference again video and audio
- 35:48Speaker 1: courtesy of Buffalo Sabers MSG in the National Hockey League
- 35:51Speaker 1: there and the nigridentri Clinic Sabers Player post game. Some
- 35:57Speaker 1: takeaways I had from Tage there following that press conference
- 36:02Speaker 1: was eight years of adversity is enough. I guess when
- 36:06Speaker 1: they were asking about not being not having any sort
- 36:10Speaker 1: of playoff experience, but they've played in playoff games down
- 36:13Speaker 1: the stretch, some big games against the Tampa Bay Lightning
- 36:15Speaker 1: and those sorts of things. So he talked about having
- 36:17Speaker 1: playoff experience, and in that aspect, he talked about the
- 36:22Speaker 1: last thing you want to do is have regret. You
- 36:24Speaker 1: don't want to let it slip, and they wanted to
- 36:27Speaker 1: just make a statement here. Every shift and game is
- 36:29Speaker 1: so important. Swimon's a great goalie, so we just have
- 36:32Speaker 1: to get traffic and disrupt him. Sort of death by
- 36:35Speaker 1: a thousand paper cuts is the analogy he used to
- 36:38Speaker 1: finally crack him, and that's what they did. So that
- 36:41Speaker 1: was Tage Thompson and Mattia Samuelson two massive goal scorers
- 36:45Speaker 1: tonight for the Sabers, and Taje Thompson as uco. Pek
- 36:49Speaker 1: Lukenan said that I don't have the audio for his
- 36:51Speaker 1: press conference, but he talked about just how Tage has
- 36:55Speaker 1: emerged as a leader this season, how he's really taking
- 36:57Speaker 1: a step on and off the ice and being able
- 36:59Speaker 1: to be a game breaker in those no scenarios. Number
- 37:03Speaker 1: seventy two just steps up in the biggest ways for
- 37:05Speaker 1: this team, in the biggest moments. And again, even though
- 37:09Speaker 1: he might have not been putting up the elite end
- 37:12Speaker 1: points near the end of the season, that Norris Stone
- 37:14Speaker 1: and Benson Line really had sort of taken the shine
- 37:18Speaker 1: as of late near down the stretch, but in the
- 37:21Speaker 1: big games, big moments, Taje. Thompson's won an Olympic gold
- 37:23Speaker 1: medal now with Team USA this season and shows up
- 37:27Speaker 1: in the biggest way for Buffalo as the offensive catalyst
- 37:30Speaker 1: to score both their first two goals and I get
- 37:32Speaker 1: them the victory there with a three point night.
- 37:34Speaker 4: So with that we'll go next to Sabers head coach
- 37:38Speaker 4: Lindy Ruff.
- 37:39Speaker 1: As always, the head coach interview is brought to you
- 37:42Speaker 1: by Wild Bills out of Repair, helping customers stay safe
- 37:45Speaker 1: and confident on the road in nagres Is twenty twelve
- 37:47Speaker 1: in honor of the late William Robert Hunter. Here's what
- 37:49Speaker 1: Lindy Ruff had to say following his team's epic four
- 37:52Speaker 1: to three comeback victory against the Boston Burns in Game
- 37:54Speaker 1: one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
- 37:56Speaker 3: How did you pull that one off?
- 37:57Speaker 4: I mean, you guys were coming coming, but you couldn't
- 38:00Speaker 4: get anything by sway And what changed?
- 38:05Speaker 3: Well, I think we won.
- 38:06Speaker 7: We won a couple of battles here down low. I thought,
- 38:09Speaker 7: if you look at the goal, see a couple of
- 38:12Speaker 7: the battles blow the goal line coming out of the corners.
- 38:15Speaker 7: You look at the play that Quinn came out of
- 38:16Speaker 7: the corner got at the samuson. You look at the
- 38:18Speaker 7: play where Tuck was in the battle and Thomer came
- 38:22Speaker 7: out with it. We beat their guys back to the
- 38:26Speaker 7: front of the net, and both those plays turned into goals.
- 38:32Speaker 13: Lindy, You've been in this building for more big games
- 38:35Speaker 13: and maybe anybody how did that feeling compare.
- 38:37Speaker 7: For Somebody said this, have you ever been in one
- 38:42Speaker 7: like that in the playoffs? And I said, well, with
- 38:45Speaker 7: a couple thousand games, I think so, but I don't know.
- 38:50Speaker 7: You could feel the building shaking again, even upstairs. I
- 38:54Speaker 7: guess they said the same thing to me. The atmosphere
- 38:57Speaker 7: was unbelievable.
- 38:57Speaker 3: And it was.
- 38:59Speaker 12: It was.
- 39:00Speaker 7: It was great to give our fans.
- 39:02Speaker 3: You know that.
- 39:02Speaker 7: That third period was you know, you always wonder what
- 39:06Speaker 7: you're gonna come out and how you're gonna come out.
- 39:07Speaker 7: We didn't make enough good plays. I think our puck play.
- 39:10Speaker 7: We were a little bit jittery.
- 39:12Speaker 3: That hurt us.
- 39:13Speaker 7: They hurt us in a lot of aspects of our game,
- 39:15Speaker 7: But that last ten minutes.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Everybody felt we got We got our game in.
- 39:21Speaker 7: A good place.
- 39:23Speaker 12: Lindy you get the game. Even Thompson makes a couple
- 39:25Speaker 12: of plays. How much had you just sense the crowd,
- 39:29Speaker 12: your bench, the guys on the ice. You saw what
- 39:31Speaker 12: happened in Samuson's goal. Everybody out on their toes, and
- 39:34Speaker 12: they almost felt like that's not going to.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Be too too in overtime, there's more to come.
- 39:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean their their defensive structure is good. I mean,
- 39:44Speaker 7: there's a reason that they were able.
- 39:47Speaker 9: To make it.
- 39:48Speaker 7: And they're they're like I said, you got two good
- 39:50Speaker 7: teams playing Honky, two good teams that I mean, we
- 39:54Speaker 7: made a couple of mistakes.
- 39:55Speaker 3: They made us pay for the early mistake in the
- 39:57Speaker 3: third period. We made them pay for those.
- 40:01Speaker 7: Couple of mistakes down over where we beat guys back
- 40:03Speaker 7: to the front of the net. They weren't getting beat
- 40:07Speaker 7: early on. I think maybe, you know, some of our
- 40:09Speaker 7: physicality warmed down. I thought that Samson was an absolute,
- 40:13Speaker 7: absolute stud in the game. We're running over people and
- 40:16Speaker 7: physical But the fact we were able to wear them
- 40:21Speaker 7: down after a while, I think made a difference.
- 40:24Speaker 11: Coach, the power play at times got booed tonight by
- 40:28Speaker 11: the crowd. Do you consider changing everything about it or
- 40:32Speaker 11: is it too late a year.
- 40:34Speaker 7: No, no, no, no, you know, some of the best
- 40:37Speaker 7: power plays have been together for a long time. Players
- 40:40Speaker 7: have been together for a long time. You can't just
- 40:43Speaker 7: start changing everything. There's a lot of little areas in
- 40:47Speaker 7: that power play. The first power play was really good.
- 40:51Speaker 7: I thought after that we digressed a little bit. But no,
- 40:55Speaker 7: we're not going to change everything. We've we've got to
- 40:57Speaker 7: execute at a higher level. We've got to break their
- 41:02Speaker 7: pressure and understand where that's going to be, like we
- 41:05Speaker 7: did on the first power play, and then sometimes you
- 41:09Speaker 7: just have to flat out win more battles. Like you
- 41:11Speaker 7: watch our penalty killing against their power play. They got
- 41:14Speaker 7: a good power play too. It's hard this time of year.
- 41:18Speaker 7: The teams that make it typically have good penalty killers.
- 41:23Speaker 6: There have been a lot of first for this team tonight,
- 41:27Speaker 6: this week, this season. What did you learn about your
- 41:30Speaker 6: team in its first playoff game together?
- 41:33Speaker 7: The same thing I learned all year long. This team
- 41:34Speaker 7: doesn't quit. They don't they don't give up. We've had
- 41:40Speaker 7: Let's just go back to the Tampa game where you know,
- 41:44Speaker 7: Tampa built a lead late and we just came back
- 41:46Speaker 7: in that game, and tonight we just said, if we
- 41:49Speaker 7: get one I felt we would get the second one.
- 41:54Speaker 7: The energy on the bench, the energy and the building
- 41:57Speaker 7: after we got the first one, I just felt we're
- 41:59Speaker 7: going to get We're going to have.
- 42:01Speaker 3: A good look to get the next one.
- 42:03Speaker 7: Because we were garnering a lot of the offensive zone play.
- 42:07Speaker 7: It was just whether we could break him down and
- 42:09Speaker 7: get that good chance. And I thought that top Line
- 42:12Speaker 7: did a couple of times, and Quinn made his play,
- 42:14Speaker 7: and just felt that we finally got him to a
- 42:18Speaker 7: place where we created the turnovers that we needed. It's
- 42:24Speaker 7: almost overshaded by all the goals made with people.
- 42:27Speaker 12: Pepe's performance and stuff to David Paul for that breakadays,
- 42:30Speaker 12: is what you think of him tonight?
- 42:32Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 42:32Speaker 7: I thought he played great for us. He gave us
- 42:34Speaker 7: a chance to get back in the game. They didn't
- 42:37Speaker 7: have a lot of opportunities, but we gave him a
- 42:39Speaker 7: couple of big ones. With When you talk about the breakaways,
- 42:43Speaker 7: I mean, we're well aware that you know in our
- 42:46Speaker 7: offensive zone play that he will take off. We hung
- 42:51Speaker 7: in there just a little bit too long and that
- 42:53Speaker 7: we're gonna have to be better at next game.
- 42:56Speaker 13: What did you think of the energy that's when you
- 42:58Speaker 13: locked in the locker room and.
- 42:59Speaker 3: It's the second or third period.
- 43:02Speaker 7: Just talks about getting back in the game, that if
- 43:06Speaker 7: we trust what we're doing and continue to do it, well,
- 43:09Speaker 7: we're gonna we'll get an opportunity to score goals. The
- 43:12Speaker 7: energy was good.
- 43:13Speaker 3: There was nobody we.
- 43:15Speaker 7: Weren't talking about, you know, no chance or you know,
- 43:18Speaker 7: we got to.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Do this better.
- 43:19Speaker 7: That we knew there were some areas of the game
- 43:21Speaker 7: need to be better.
- 43:22Speaker 3: But part of this is believing in.
- 43:25Speaker 7: How you play and trusting how you play and continue.
- 43:28Speaker 3: To play that way.
- 43:29Speaker 14: And you mentioned it a little bit, but Sadu said
- 43:31Speaker 14: that nine hits tonight, what kind of impact does.
- 43:34Speaker 3: They have on a game?
- 43:38Speaker 7: I mean, just you know, we talked about making sure
- 43:42Speaker 7: that we finished people when we had the opportunity, that
- 43:45Speaker 7: we took them out of the play, and or that
- 43:47Speaker 7: in our zone we were able to kill plays right away,
- 43:49Speaker 7: so we broke out. I thought, like I said, I thought,
- 43:53Speaker 7: by far he was he was our most physical and
- 43:57Speaker 7: I mean he gets rewarded with the goal, and he
- 44:00Speaker 7: played a heck of a game from the way he
- 44:02Speaker 7: moved the puck to the way he ended up scoring. Lindy.
- 44:07Speaker 15: Is there a kind of confidence that comes with this
- 44:11Speaker 15: team because you've played this kind of game throughout the season.
- 44:14Speaker 15: Granted it's playoffs, it's a different setting, but you've played
- 44:17Speaker 15: this exact kind of game and come out on top
- 44:19Speaker 15: so many times this year.
- 44:21Speaker 7: Yeah, I think we can. You know, I liked our
- 44:23Speaker 7: first period. We went after him, we were shooting, and
- 44:26Speaker 7: we did a lot of good things. We just didn't
- 44:28Speaker 7: quite get inside and around the net enough. We know
- 44:30Speaker 7: we have to be better in some areas. You know,
- 44:34Speaker 7: we're going to just continue to try to play our
- 44:36Speaker 7: game and in every game we're going to try to improve.
- 44:39Speaker 3: I think there's areas we can improve for sure, And
- 44:43Speaker 3: that's what a seven game series is all about. What
- 44:45Speaker 3: what are they going to do? What are we going
- 44:47Speaker 3: to do?
- 44:47Speaker 7: We know there's areas that we're going to have to
- 44:50Speaker 7: get better at. You look at the second goal we
- 44:54Speaker 7: gave up. It's a goal that in our structure we shouldn't.
- 44:58Speaker 3: We shouldn't have two guys.
- 44:59Speaker 16: Open Lindy after Tage's second goal, Do you need to
- 45:04Speaker 16: tell the team anything like go for it now, look
- 45:08Speaker 16: what we are doing right now?
- 45:10Speaker 7: Or do you have to even say I didn't have
- 45:11Speaker 7: to tell them anything. I mean I'm a horse as
- 45:13Speaker 7: it is from yelling. A couple of those were at
- 45:16Speaker 7: the officials, But the bench was electric. I mean, the
- 45:22Speaker 7: players were talking about going and getting the third one.
- 45:25Speaker 7: There was the energy on the bench. The emotion on
- 45:28Speaker 7: the bench was where you needed to be in a
- 45:30Speaker 7: playoff game.
- 45:31Speaker 13: You mentioned earlier this week that after one shift, guys
- 45:35Speaker 13: kind of at playoff experience. After a game like that,
- 45:38Speaker 13: how much do you feel like the whole playoff experience
- 45:41Speaker 13: thing kind of goes out the window?
- 45:42Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 45:43Speaker 7: Well, I told him right after the game you want experience.
- 45:45Speaker 7: You got to know, I mean what an experience. I mean,
- 45:48Speaker 7: if you're going to say this was my first playoff game,
- 45:50Speaker 7: you've got a great story to tell.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Coach.
- 45:54Speaker 10: The sad way that question about playoff experience, which one
- 45:58Speaker 10: feels so much sweeter your first playoff win ever as
- 46:01Speaker 10: a coach, for this one tonight.
- 46:03Speaker 7: This one right here, right here, right now. Now, we
- 46:08Speaker 7: just got to go try to win one more.
- 46:10Speaker 3: But this.
- 46:12Speaker 7: Was probably the sweetest of all of them.
- 46:17Speaker 1: There was Lindy Ruff's postgame following their Game one victory
- 46:23Speaker 1: against the Boston Bruins, and Yeah, just a lot of
- 46:25Speaker 1: great stuff there from.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Lindy with his postgame thoughts.
- 46:29Speaker 1: As always, the video and audio with that courtesy of
- 46:31Speaker 1: x dot Com, Slash Buffalo Sabers MSG and the National
- 46:35Speaker 1: Hockey League. So again, the Sabers win this one for
- 46:38Speaker 1: to three and comeback fashion over the Boston Bruins. Thanking
- 46:41Speaker 1: everybody tuned in live on the YouTube version. Make sure
- 46:44Speaker 1: to hit like a subscribe smash that bell if you're
- 46:46Speaker 1: enjoying the video content here on the network, and if
- 46:49Speaker 1: you're enjoying your your favorite on demand audio podcast platform
- 46:52Speaker 1: the next day, please make sure to give us a
- 46:54Speaker 1: five star rating and whatever platform he chose to listen
- 46:57Speaker 1: to us on a quick few thoughts from Lindy said
- 47:00Speaker 1: there you could feel the energy and the building and
- 47:03Speaker 1: the building shaking. He said no, no, no, no, no,
- 47:06Speaker 1: about eight times about the power play. He's gonna change
- 47:09Speaker 1: anything up there. He had said, some of the best
- 47:12Speaker 1: power plays have been together for a long time. Uh,
- 47:15Speaker 1: talking in generality there from the NHL. Not gonna change everything.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Just need to execute and to win more battles. He
- 47:21Speaker 1: liked the first power play in it where they had
- 47:22Speaker 1: six shots on net. He talked about this team does
- 47:25Speaker 1: not quit. He talked about that they've been like that
- 47:28Speaker 1: all season long. He also said that we know he
- 47:32Speaker 1: will take off in regards to pastor knock and how
- 47:34Speaker 1: they sort of have to play him going forward.
- 47:37Speaker 4: Trust what we're doing.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Was the message after between the second and the third
- 47:41Speaker 1: period that things were gonna come through, and he talked
- 47:43Speaker 1: about the bench was just the electric.
- 47:45Speaker 4: He didn't have to say a word.
- 47:47Speaker 1: It was just an amazing, amazing I guess atmosphere not
- 47:52Speaker 1: only you know from the fan base, but also the
- 47:54Speaker 1: crowd is what and and the bench as well. They
- 47:57Speaker 1: were they were very positive, upbeat, they were and they
- 48:01Speaker 1: were electric with that emotion of being able to have
- 48:04Speaker 1: that third period comeback, he said. And he told them basically,
- 48:07Speaker 1: you want the experience, you got it now and talked
- 48:11Speaker 1: about this being the sweetest victory that he's had when
- 48:14Speaker 1: asked if this or his first playoff win as a
- 48:16Speaker 1: coach was the best one that he's felt. So there
- 48:20Speaker 1: was Lindy Russ's postgame as always, brought to you by
- 48:22Speaker 1: Wild Bills Auto Repair, and Wow, just the Sabers take
- 48:26Speaker 1: this one by a four to three. Final player of
- 48:29Speaker 1: the game, I'm gonna give it to Taje Thompson but
- 48:32Speaker 1: I know in the room, Tage graciously as he is,
- 48:36Speaker 1: gave it to Ucopeka Lucanan who made seventeen of twenty
- 48:39Speaker 1: saves on this night. But again when it was too
- 48:42Speaker 1: nothing Boston, things could have really got gotten out of
- 48:44Speaker 1: hand there and things could have gone the other way
- 48:47Speaker 1: in the Bruins favor. So you got to tip your
- 48:49Speaker 1: cap to lucan In who will again his stat line
- 48:52Speaker 1: won't look fantastic in tonight's game, but he's deserving of
- 48:58Speaker 1: what he was able to accomplish tonight for the Sabers
- 49:01Speaker 1: team to be able to get their first again playoff
- 49:03Speaker 1: victory since twenty eleven.
- 49:06Speaker 4: Other players of note there the three stars in the building.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Tage Thompson two goals, one assist, Samuelson had the second
- 49:13Speaker 1: star with a goal, and Alex Tuck was named the
- 49:15Speaker 1: third star with a goal and an assist. He got
- 49:17Speaker 1: the empty netter and the lone assist on Tage Thompson's
- 49:22Speaker 1: second goal, which was the game tying goal. Jack Quinn
- 49:25Speaker 1: also picked up and assist. He set up Mattia Samuelson
- 49:29Speaker 1: for that quote unquote game winner. We're still gonna call
- 49:33Speaker 1: it the game winner, even though Boston scored was six
- 49:35Speaker 1: seconds left. I don't care what the box score says
- 49:38Speaker 1: on that one. And Peyton Krebs got the assist on
- 49:40Speaker 1: Thompson's first goal on the wrap round where they were
- 49:43Speaker 1: able to keep the puck in there again Pastor Knock.
- 49:46Speaker 1: He scored the late goal there on the power play
- 49:49Speaker 1: with less than eight seconds left from Zaka and Geeky.
- 49:52Speaker 4: So Geeky had two points on the.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Night, could have scored that other goal where he just
- 49:55Speaker 1: decided not to shoot, and as well Pasternack. With those breakaways,
- 49:59Speaker 1: Boston gonna want a lot more. They're gonna want to
- 50:01Speaker 1: be able to close out a game like that after
- 50:03Speaker 1: what happened there. So I expect Tuesday night against against
- 50:07Speaker 1: Boston back here at Key Banks Center to be another
- 50:10Speaker 1: great effort from the Bruins. I expect the Bruins to
- 50:12Speaker 1: come out, you know, pissed off obviously with with how
- 50:17Speaker 1: that one ended. They thought they were in control of
- 50:20Speaker 1: that game, and you know, with eight minutes left they were,
- 50:22Speaker 1: and it took a comeback of epic proportions for the
- 50:25Speaker 1: Sabers to be able to pull out that victory. See, no,
- 50:28Speaker 1: Marco Sterns is gonna have his team ready to go.
- 50:30Speaker 1: I found it, excuse me, interesting that Casey Middlestat every
- 50:38Speaker 1: time he touched the puck was pretty heavily booed as
- 50:40Speaker 1: a former Sabers first round pick playing for Boston as
- 50:43Speaker 1: well as Nikida is a door of a former first
- 50:45Speaker 1: round pick of the Sabers as well was also booed
- 50:48Speaker 1: pretty heavily as well. But it was pretty awesome to see, uh,
- 50:53Speaker 1: just how the fan base was able to rally around
- 50:56Speaker 1: this team the last three or so months of the
- 50:58Speaker 1: season when the Atlantic Division for the first time. The
- 51:01Speaker 1: last time they'd won the division championship was back when
- 51:03Speaker 1: it was a Northeast Division back in.
- 51:04Speaker 4: Two thousand and nine twenty ten. So a lot of
- 51:07Speaker 4: great stuff there.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Again, would love to hear from from the fan base,
- 51:11Speaker 1: and you guys leave a comment and the comment section
- 51:13Speaker 1: below if you were at the game tonight or at
- 51:15Speaker 1: the party in the plaza outside.
- 51:18Speaker 4: I know it was snowing, hailing.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Sleeting, whatever it was out there, and you guys really
- 51:24Speaker 1: came through and battled those elements outside and I'm glad
- 51:28Speaker 1: that that the result was what it was. If it
- 51:30Speaker 1: would end it to nothing and you guys would have
- 51:31Speaker 1: sat out there in the in the cold and the
- 51:35Speaker 1: rain and the snow probably would have sounded like I
- 51:38Speaker 1: do right now, still still recovering from my sickness. So
- 51:43Speaker 1: congrassed everybody down there went down and experienced a heck
- 51:46Speaker 1: of a heck of a game and got to witness
- 51:48Speaker 1: a heck of an ending there as well. It was
- 51:51Speaker 1: an awesome thing to see again. I'm gonna pull it
- 51:53Speaker 1: up for you guys, so you're you are aware if
- 51:55Speaker 1: you are in the Niagara Region where we are based

- 53:17Speaker 1: Buffalo Sabers become the first team in NHL postseason history
- 53:20Speaker 1: to win a regulation time after trailing by two or
- 53:23Speaker 1: more goals to zero with eight minutes or fewer remaining
- 53:26Speaker 1: in regulation.
- 53:27Speaker 4: There you go. What an amazing statistic there for the
- 53:30Speaker 4: Buffalo Sabers and getting that victory in Game one again.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Game two goes Tuesday from Key Bank Center, and expect
- 53:37Speaker 1: the Bruns to come out with another fiery effort in
- 53:39Speaker 1: that one with Jeremy Swayman. Gonna have to beat him again,
- 53:43Speaker 1: proving why he was deserving of that big contract that
- 53:46Speaker 1: the Bruins gave him just a season ago. And again,
- 53:49Speaker 1: this Bruins team is not gonna go away, so it's
- 53:53Speaker 1: gonna be a fun series.
- 53:54Speaker 4: This one is not over.
