- 0:00Jenn: Hey, everyone.
- 0:00Jenn: Welcome back to travel tip Tuesday.
- 0:05Jenn: Um, Since we both just got back from Europe, I thought it would be funny and appropriate to do a quick things you should know before you go to Europe.
- 0:14Jenn: If you're coming from Canada slash like north America.
- 0:17Meggan: Oh yeah.
- 0:18Meggan: Oh yeah.
- 0:18Jenn: Just a few things that we've kind of both noticed while we were traveling.
- 0:23Jenn: And some things you should pack with you before you go.
- 0:26Jenn: And obviously I haven't been to all of Europe, but
- 0:29Meggan: I mean, I think something we should preface as well as dear Europe.
- 0:32Meggan: We love you.
- 0:33Meggan: Like,
- 0:34Jenn: we love you so much.
- 0:35Meggan: we're so not dissing you.
- 0:37Meggan: These are just interesting little factoids that made us go Hmm.
- 0:41Jenn: Things that I didn't expect.
- 0:43Jenn: Especially like the first time I was going to Europe, just things that I took for granted here that I didn't realize were everywhere.
- 0:52Meggan: exactly.
- 0:53Meggan: What do you got first?
- 0:54Jenn: Face cloths.
- 0:55Jenn: They don't really exist and I don't know why.
- 1:00Meggan: I don't know why I've even talked to Europeans and no one seems to have an answer.
- 1:05Meggan: I don't know.
- 1:06Meggan: I mean, I shower with one, so I enjoy a good face cloth.
- 1:10Meggan: I was going to take some, but then I'm like, I didn't wanna dispose of them.
- 1:15Meggan: And then I didn't wanna drag around wet ones.
- 1:18Meggan: And I was just like, you know what, I'm gonna have to just go with it.
- 1:21Meggan: But it is odd.
- 1:22Jenn: It is odd.
- 1:23Jenn: I did pack a couple from home and just a Ziploc bag to put them in.
- 1:29Jenn: If they were wet.
- 1:30Jenn: And we had laundry facilities in like three of the five places.
- 1:34Meggan: Oh, cool.
- 1:35Meggan: Cool.
- 1:35Jenn: So I just threw them in with my laundry whenever we were doing them.
- 1:37Jenn: But yeah, if you want those, take them with you because
- 1:41Meggan: I just, not, someone knows the why.
- 1:43Meggan: Like if someone does, I mean, it's fine.
- 1:46Meggan: Everywhere is different, but I'd love to know why.
- 1:49Jenn: No.
- 1:49Jenn: Yeah, same.
- 1:50Jenn: Also there probably won't be screens on the windows.
- 1:54Jenn: Um, So if you wanna breeze, it comes with bugs and in Scotland, it came with tiny midges, no see-ems that were horrible.
- 2:04Meggan: like, I don't understand this either.
- 2:06Meggan: Cuz like I underst- we all wanna breeze.
- 2:09Jenn: Yeah.
- 2:09Meggan: A fresh breeze is lovely.
- 2:11Meggan: But why don't you want one without bugs?
- 2:13Jenn: I don't know.
- 2:15. Meggan: I don't get it again.
- 2:16. Meggan: If someone knows the answer to this, please get back to us.
- 2:18Jenn: Top sheets don't seem to exist.
- 2:21Jenn: It's just the duvet, which was, is fine, except when it's hot and you can't open the window.
- 2:28Jenn: There's no air condition.
- 2:31Meggan: Yeah.
- 2:32Jenn: I like something on me.
- 2:34Jenn: I'm one of those sleepers.
- 2:35Jenn: I want, want something covering me, even if it's just a top sheet.
- 2:39Jenn: I did, I'm in like a Scotland travel Facebook group and there were people packing top sheets in the,
- 2:45Meggan: oh wow.
- 2:46Meggan: They're serious about their top sheets.
- 2:48Jenn: I know.
- 2:48Jenn: And like we said, air conditioning, isn't a thing, but it doesn't usually get that hot.
- 2:53Jenn: So.
- 2:54Meggan: But climate change is coming people and you gonna need some AC and if not, at least a screen.
- 3:02Jenn: Yeah.
- 3:03Jenn: you gotta pick one,
- 3:04Meggan: pick one and go with it.
- 3:06Jenn: Carry change for bathroom breaks.
- 3:10Jenn: Places or like me you'll charge 40 cents to your credit card cuz you need to pee.
- 3:15Meggan: We did that as well.
- 3:16Meggan: A Euro please.
- 3:17Meggan: Okay.
- 3:18Meggan: Take my visa.
- 3:19Meggan: I need to pee.
- 3:20Jenn: I just need to pee!
- 3:21Meggan: Yeah.
- 3:22Meggan: Ridiculous
- 3:23Jenn: restaurants close early or may not be open on Sundays.
- 3:26Jenn: Yep.
- 3:28Jenn: And indeed, and also they close on non Sundays, they seemed to close earlier than we were used to.
- 3:38Meggan: And then some take longer lunch breaks.
- 3:40Meggan: Just aren't open at all.
- 3:42Jenn: I mean, the afternoon, if you wanna eat at 3:00 PM, you are in trouble in a lot of places.
- 3:46Meggan: Yeah.
- 3:47Meggan: So sorry for you grab a snack.
- 3:49Jenn: Yeah.
- 3:50Jenn: Yeah.
- 3:50Jenn: We did a lot of Tesco
- 3:54Meggan: yes.
- 3:55Meggan: Love a Tesco or Lidl one of the two.
- 3:57Jenn: And we found traveling as a group that restaurants do not split bills.
- 4:02Jenn: Or if they do split it, they'll split it equally.
- 4:05Jenn: So most of the time we got the bill all in one.
- 4:08Jenn: And then we got out our calculators and figured out who was paying.
- 4:12Meggan: Oh, see, I never went through that piece.
- 4:13Meggan: That's good to know.
- 4:14Jenn: Yeah.
- 4:14Jenn: It, every time we asked them to split the bill, they were like what like really?
- 4:20Jenn: Okay.
- 4:21Jenn: That's fine.
- 4:22Jenn: Whatever.
- 4:23Meggan: Sure.
- 4:24Meggan: and those are all really things.
- 4:26Meggan: I, 100% noticed all those things as well.
- 4:28Meggan: And the only one I wanted to add to that myself, cuz this is a very comprehensive list of, of interesting tidbits is the toilet paper.
- 4:38Meggan: I, I, I just simply don't understand what you have against soft toilet paper.
- 4:44Meggan: we came home and, and Peter's like the toilet paper here at our house feels like a silk blanket.
- 4:49Meggan: I'm like, I know I'm like why you into the rough TP people?
- 4:55Jenn: I didn't notice.
- 4:57Meggan: Maybe Scotland has some soft, because someone chimed in and said that England now is into soft toilet paper.
- 5:04Meggan: And I'm like, well, I'm not in England, so that's not helping me.
- 5:06Jenn: I didn't find that I also use thin-ish toilet paper at home.
- 5:13Jenn: It's like, A box from staples that like, there's no plastic and it's all recycled, cuz that's the way I roll I guess.
- 5:21Jenn: And right.
- 5:21Jenn: It's not the softest softest or thickest toilet paper.
- 5:25Jenn: So maybe I'm just used to it.
- 5:28Meggan: Yeah, no, this was thick.
- 5:30Meggan: Let me say that this was not a problem.
- 5:34Meggan: It was just painful.
- 5:36Meggan: And like, and I pity the fool that has like a stomach bug.
- 5:42Jenn: Oh yeah.
- 5:43Meggan: You won't be able to walk for a day, but anyway, thank God that didn't happen to me, but I digress.
- 5:49Meggan: I had to add that to the list.
- 5:51Meggan: Cause the TP.
- 5:52Meggan: It wasn't cool.
- 5:53Jenn: Gosh.
