- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Welcome to watching laser scary
- 0:23movie, the podcast, where we talked about the good, the bad,
- 0:25the ugly, and the Absurd, and all of our favorite and least,
- 0:28favorite scary movie. Is because we believe every
- 0:30horror movie, rightfully has his fan base even when we don't
- 0:33always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:35My name is Jessie and this week we are talking 2003's, high
- 0:40tension or hooked tension. If you are French less, and as
- 0:46you guys have heard me painfully try to pronounce French names
- 0:50The words before we are clearly not French.
- 0:53Always. I was like, how about how about?
- 0:55I only know, because you spoke to her Hulk toy toy.
- 1:00Okay, I'll take your word for it.
- 1:01Okay. Unless I'm been missing
- 1:03announcing that to you, it's entirely possible.
- 1:06Okay? So quick announcement.
- 1:09We did our to be or not to be episode on Sunday that came out
- 1:16do as I'ma Do. My solemn.
- 1:18Do my silent Doom, Asylum. Yes, yes.
- 1:20Old the movies and experience. The discussion was an
- 1:25experience. That's pretty much all I can
- 1:27really say about it. It's a mass delusion, it's a
- 1:29vast. It is a mass delusion.
- 1:31This is in the episode you'll get it or what you experienced
- 1:34was a mess location. If you seen the movie you also
- 1:36get. It's just a fucking trips.
- 1:38There's one of the weirdest movies we've covered on this
- 1:41podcast. So it's I don't I don't have any
- 1:44other words for anything else. That's it.
- 1:50Okay, cool. I got our poll results.
- 1:52Okay, last week we talked about perfect blue with Robert, its
- 1:55own and our poll was, would you rather be an actor or a pop
- 1:59Idol? So, on Twitter 88% of them,
- 2:03wanted to be an actor and 12% wanted to be a pop bottle.
- 2:07Meanwhile, on Instagram, there's a little bit more tight 56%
- 2:10wanted to be an actor and 44% when it be a pop Idol.
- 2:13Okay? Personally I would want to be in
- 2:18Nectar. Obviously, I want to be a
- 2:20knight. Yes.
- 2:20Well, you have acted guys. Yep, Jesse's got her own stuff
- 2:25on the wall. Hero among all of our other one
- 2:28of the greats. You're up there, baby.
- 2:31Yeah, okay. Yeah, that's pretty easy.
- 2:33Like yeah, I'm squished in right between Ghostface and Chuckie.
- 2:38Yeah, I mean you doing pretty good shape if you need to know
- 2:43where to rank me. All right?
- 2:45Let's talk about high tension. Okay.
- 2:48And for the record, this is my pick.
- 2:50But Jesse got all the information because I've been
- 2:54the hazard, she refers to MC for a few episodes in a row now.
- 2:58Yes, yes. We wanted to mix it up some so
- 3:02that way neither of us is carrying too much of one thing
- 3:04at a time. Yeah.
- 3:06Okay. So as you guys know this is June
- 3:10we're doing a pride month theme where we were talking about
- 3:13movies that have some sort of connection to lgbtq issues.
- 3:18Issues, concerns topics, interests, whatever it may be,
- 3:22either, it's in the theme of the movie or reading of the movie or
- 3:26cast or crew members. This one.
- 3:28I'm not even going to go into too much because I think it's
- 3:32pretty obvious. How?
- 3:32Yes one ties into the theme. Yeah, but I did.
- 3:35Go ahead and I got instead of sad statistics today about like,
- 3:40how many people died? I, I decided that I wanted to
- 3:45look up LGBT. Populations in France.
- 3:49Oh, cool. Okay, so and I tried to get as
- 3:51close to 2003 as possible. So according to a 2011 survey
- 3:577840 one French adults, 6.6 percent of respondents
- 4:02identified as homosexual or bisexual and 98.8% as
- 4:08heterosexual compared to the heterosexual population.
- 4:11The homosexual population was much more likely to be male
- 4:14single and younger than 65, as well as to be living alone.
- 4:18Who is more likely to be economically?
- 4:19Active and work in Superior intellectual professions but on
- 4:22average had a smaller household income.
- 4:24They were also more likely to be residing in big cities,
- 4:27especially in the region of Paris, the bisexual population
- 4:31had fewer statistically significant deviations from the
- 4:33heterosexual population. Resembling the heterosexuals on
- 4:37some measures how much sexuals on others or being in a midpoint
- 4:41on still, some others other people.
- 4:44Yeah, basically, yeah, I think that should be like our biggest
- 4:47takeaway from. Month.
- 4:48Is that lgbtq+? People are people.
- 4:51Yep. So they get feels very weird to
- 4:53say like the homosexuals like it's like, yeah, I like maybe
- 4:59that's just how it is in the poll, how it's written.
- 5:01I was reading it verbatim from this, but, like, as I was
- 5:03saying, as like, this feels weird to say like this.
- 5:06Yeah, and then, I will cover this.
- 5:12As I've been doing, I did find an article written by an LGBT
- 5:17person. About this movie, okay?
- 5:20Because I think that's really important.
- 5:22When we talk about these movies to get another perspective on
- 5:26it. Yeah.
- 5:27So I will read that after after I've given some of the
- 5:31background information before we get into fun facts.
- 5:33Okay, cool. So alright.
- 5:35Alright, so For English-speaking purposes.
- 5:40So I don't have to subtract you guys to my French.
- 5:43Any more than necessary this movie is high tension.
- 5:47It was released in France on June 18th 2003 it, the American
- 5:54release was sometime in 2005. I don't want to call that a wide
- 5:58release because it's a very like American Century point of view
- 6:01to Hell on. It was acquired by a big
- 6:03company. I don't know if it was
- 6:05originally developed by them, but I get the impression.
- 6:07In that it was made in France and then they acquired the
- 6:11rights for like United States distribution.
- 6:13Yeah. And like the thing is a lot of
- 6:15the background information, like a lot of the factual information
- 6:18I have about, it comes from, like, a very American Centric
- 6:21view point as well. So, because that's where a lot
- 6:24of the controversy and whatnot stems from so, yeah.
- 6:28Okay, we watched it on DVD, we watch the dubbed version because
- 6:34it is really hard to take notes when there's subtitles.
- 6:37Yeah, which means I think we got the theatrical.
- 6:40We don't we didn't watch the unrated version of this.
- 6:42Yes, I can confirm we didn't because of the stuff that gets
- 6:46cut from it. I remember, yeah, I remember
- 6:49certain scenes being way more brutal watching them before and
- 6:52then I was a little bit disappointed not seeing some of
- 6:55that brutality this summer. Yes.
- 6:57However, if you don't owe it own it, you can stream it on to
- 7:00Hattie shudder to be Pluto TV Redbox Prime free vu2.
- 7:07Primetime. YouTube TV premium am C plus or
- 7:11Plex. If you don't want to have any of
- 7:13those free options you can also rent it on Google Play review.
- 7:17Do it's crazy how widely accessible is.
- 7:20Such an accessible movie for how controversial it is.
- 7:24Yeah, it's strange. But cool.
- 7:25I'm glad this was written by Alexander.
- 7:28I was shot and Gregory that masseur.
- 7:30Well, if that mean I am and I'm gonna do my best with these
- 7:34names. I practiced.
- 7:35I studied it's just Just, yeah, I was born in Tennessee and I'm
- 7:40trying music by Francois is Sean from, and special effects makeup
- 7:46by ginetto De Rossi, who worked a lot with Lucio falchi.
- 7:50Okay, cool. That sounded like a familiar
- 7:52name, starring Cecile de France as Marie.
- 7:56My when as Alex Philly pin Nahant nihaan as literature
- 8:04Frank Calhoun as Jimmy. Andre fainty as pair Alex.
- 8:15Oh Anna pili. A as mirror Alex and Marko,
- 8:20Claudia pasty, as Tom I put so much work into trying to find
- 8:26out the dog actor's name who played Hendrix.
- 8:29Couldn't find information I am at this point just assuming that
- 8:32is Alexander Oz, actual dog and his name is actually huh?
- 8:36That's what I'm thinking. I like that dogs actually hit
- 8:38you like that. It's that is what I'm going
- 8:42with. I couldn't find it like we went
- 8:44frame by frame through the end credits.
- 8:47Yeah, we did a Google Search and I don't know if you guys
- 8:51understand how hard it is to search both the terms Hendrix
- 8:55and tension together but you get a lot of guitar information.
- 9:01I did IMDb I did Wikipedia I like I just dissed it's just
- 9:07hundred. It's just Hendrix, you know?
- 9:10I'm I'm willing to accept that cannon at this point.
- 9:14All right. Travis budget, Hrbek.
- 9:16Ted, I think that this is probably budget.
- 9:21Okay, so here's my numbers are weird.
- 9:24The budget was 2.2 million euros know so I don't know how much
- 9:28that is in American dollars but they did give me the box office
- 9:34information in American dollars. So misting Go figure.
- 9:38Okay, opening box. Office was one point, nine
- 9:41million dollars world and I'm pretty sure that's the American
- 9:45opening. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking
- 9:46too. And I worldwide gross of 6.2
- 9:49million dollars. That's not bad.
- 9:51IMDb score of six point seven out of ten.
- 9:54Cool. Okay, I picked three movies and
- 9:58they're all with the theme of trying to mess with your head.
- 10:01Oh, I like that. Cool.
- 10:03The first one dead end. Remind me what?
- 10:07So in at the family Drive, our in-laws house on Christmas and
- 10:11the road just keeps repeating. And that's right.
- 10:13That is a weird movie. That is weird.
- 10:15Maybe we always forget, we've seen it until we like, watch a
- 10:18trailer and then we're like we have.
- 10:19That's how much it fucks with your head.
- 10:20Yes. So that was released September
- 10:2326 2003 budget of 900,000 dollars.
- 10:28Unknown gross. I don't think released in
- 10:31theaters. Yeah, well when I tried to look
- 10:33it up separately at tried to say that the gross was nine hundred
- 10:36thousand dollars, so I I think it was like yeah, IND be score
- 10:41of six point five out of ten. Wow, people acted to me, I think
- 10:46it's pretty obvious to us. It's kind of forgettable because
- 10:48we don't remember watching it. Here's the thing, is that?
- 10:50Like I think I remember enjoying it as a movie.
- 10:54It's just like the name, the poster and like the blip that
- 11:01you get. Like, as a descriptor, none of
- 11:04that stands out and then you start watching your like, oh
- 11:06shit. I've seen those.
- 11:06Yeah. Yeah exactly.
- 11:08So second movie Identity. Hey okay that's a nice little
- 11:14movie. That's a motherfucking Jack
- 11:18Frost director. He wrote that yeah which is
- 11:21crazy. That was released April 25th
- 11:252003 that a 28 million dollar budget.
- 11:29Holy shit. Oh I remember that.
- 11:31Yeah, in a worldwide gross of 90 million dollars goddamn seven,
- 11:36point three out of Then that's a good movie Yammer.
- 11:39We did watch it and only watch it one time.
- 11:42It's more of like a thriller but definitely bleed since you like
- 11:45the horror genre, for sure. Okay.
- 11:50All right. Next one, I've actually not seen
- 11:53this one, have I? I don't know, but we've never
- 11:56really talked about it. Okay?
- 11:58Gothika during Halle Berry. Yeah, I've seen parts of that.
- 12:03Yeah, I remember the trailer freaked me out.
- 12:06I think you do, too. Aunt 3.
- 12:08Yeah, I remember that was back when I was like, do I want to
- 12:12watch this? Well, want to be that scared
- 12:13today, and I remember telling myself, no, you don't, Travis.
- 12:16I was frightened by Street lamps for a while because of the
- 12:18trailer because it was like, yeah, the little girl like
- 12:20standing on the Street Lamp and it was like, yeah.
- 12:25So that released November 21st, 2003, Budget of 40 million.
- 12:33In a worldwide gross of 141 million.
- 12:36Shit. IMDb of 5.8 sorry Gothika too.
- 12:42That's, that's equal numbers right there.
- 12:43Come on, you know, I don't really have a very, she's a
- 12:46ghost. I know she's busy doing Catwoman
- 12:48shit. Well, I do think that she
- 12:50actually liked She did several thriller movies for a while
- 12:55because I think she also did the one where she was the 911 phone
- 12:57operator. I don't know where her General
- 13:00like wine of work consists of like what genre she Trends
- 13:04towards the most? I just know that I generally
- 13:06kind of like her because of how she responded.
- 13:12Like she had a very emotional reaction to being the first
- 13:15African-American actress to win an Oscar.
- 13:19She had a very emotional reaction.
- 13:21She got a lot of shit for it. It, she didn't give a shit and
- 13:23then the next year she got a Razzie.
- 13:26Yeah. And she spoofed herself, I
- 13:28respect the hell out of here is like that too.
- 13:30Why does she kept shit? Was it because of the movie or
- 13:33there, or was it because of the reasons so emotional, okay, for
- 13:37you know, a fucking historical win but for taglines, oh nice.
- 13:43And I say for with air quotes because the one that's on the
- 13:46poster it's on our tpd is one of those that I don't fucking
- 13:50consider a tagline but because Only one, right?
- 13:53Yeah. It's a review of it, the most
- 13:56terrifying film of the year, you know?
- 14:022003, maybe because it's a pretty fucking terrifying movie.
- 14:08Okay, additional taglines. Okay, someone is hurting
- 14:12everyone around her dot dot dot. I like that.
- 14:18Love Hurts. Yeah, I like that too.
- 14:21Yeah. But like you don't know that
- 14:23she's like, she's in love with her yet.
- 14:25So like that kind of gives it away.
- 14:27Did it fucking tells you right up front in the movie.
- 14:31Also, the whole like someone who's hurting everyone around
- 14:34her at that. Also kind of hints that
- 14:36something's up with her. Exactly.
- 14:37Yeah. That's the cool thing about
- 14:39this. It all is trying to scream at
- 14:41you. This is her the entire time
- 14:43until but you don't really get it until you see it happen.
- 14:46And then, Finally Hearts will bleed.
- 14:51Okay? That sounds like a Valentine's
- 14:52Day themed movie. Yeah.
- 14:55Okay. All right, so before we get into
- 14:58fun facts, I wanted to read this small excerpt written by Henry
- 15:05giardina for into or maybe it's into more.
- 15:10As always, I will make sure that I'll link this in our show
- 15:14notes. That way, you can read the full
- 15:15thing yourself. This was written into 20:21.
- 15:19Okay. So in the article itself is
- 15:22called remembering the homophobic, transphobic were of
- 15:25high tension. Ok, but is a movie like high
- 15:29tension, actually homophobic. That seems too simple, a
- 15:33designation. You could look at the final
- 15:35twist at the end and read it as more transphobic than lesbo
- 15:38phobic. But the fact that Marie
- 15:40justifies her murder spree by saying that, she loves her
- 15:42friend and wants nothing to keep them apart points.
- 15:44To a much more common Narrative of the early aughts.
- 15:47Lesbians love too much. It makes them crazy and then
- 15:51they kill people monster, the Aileen wuornos biopic, came out
- 15:55the same year. So to party monster which told
- 15:58the story of queer Club. Kid killer Michael Alec a year
- 16:02later. The played out opened
- 16:04Off-Broadway and the history of boys opened its West End.
- 16:06Run gay. People were either Killers or
- 16:09pedophiles or victims all three maybe but you couldn't be
- 16:12anything else. Wow.
- 16:15Yeah. I could see that being negative
- 16:18and there's a lot of there's a lot more.
- 16:20More in this article. It's a really good article, but
- 16:23obviously, this is a very kind of, like, kind of complex thing
- 16:26to dissect. Yeah.
- 16:28And I'm not gonna like, you know, chop up this this bit.
- 16:33Sorry, boys. Yeah, somebody else's opinion,
- 16:36that they wrote and spent a lot of time writing on, just go
- 16:39ahead, check that out for yourself.
- 16:41Get somebody else's take on it. Yeah, that sounds like an
- 16:45interesting read though. Representation fucking matters.
- 16:50You know what I mean? And it's just it's a whole is a
- 16:52whole thing. Yeah.
- 16:55Okay so I don't have a ton of facts about this movie.
- 16:59No. So normally what I do when I
- 17:01look for fun, facts is perfect Center fun like I start off with
- 17:12like the Wikipedia see if something Peaks - oh I didn't go
- 17:16and search from there. The Wikipedia had very little on
- 17:19it. Really?
- 17:20Yeah. And then like I found some
- 17:21interesting things and IMDb so I tried to search those and get
- 17:25verification and I didn't get anything.
- 17:26And I don't know if it's just because like high tension is
- 17:29like, a hard phrase to search for even if you add like movie,
- 17:34or like background or anything like that, I will say we're
- 17:37partly responsible. We have a whole making of on our
- 17:40DVD. We just have been so pressed for
- 17:42time here. We we didn't have the time to do
- 17:44it but we could have done that. Yeah.
- 17:47So when it was released to American audiences to get it
- 17:50from an NC-17 rating down to an R rating, they had to cut a full
- 17:55minute of the movie and it was basically every kill got chopped
- 17:59down. I know.
- 18:01So let me see, I tried. Yeah.
- 18:03Okay so Alex's father is graphically decapitated with a
- 18:07bookcase and his headless next spring.
- 18:08Blood in the R-rated version. The murder is edited quickly cut
- 18:11away as the bookcase crushes and suffers his head.
- 18:13He still see the head come off but like quickly cuts.
- 18:17Right after. Yeah.
- 18:18Well when Alex's mother has her throat slashed, the scene is
- 18:20shortened. Most of the arterial spurting as
- 18:23the killer pulls back. Her head is gone subsequent
- 18:26shots of Marie inspecting. The body have also been edited
- 18:30the death of Jimmy the gas station clerk has been
- 18:32shortened. Close-up shots of the acts,
- 18:33taking his chest have been removed the scene rumery
- 18:37strikes, the Killer's face with the barbed wire pole is
- 18:39shortened and less explicit memory hits.
- 18:41The killer fewer times and fewer details of the wounds are shown
- 18:45the drivers disembowelment with the It's the one that I've
- 18:49missed the most and considering I didn't even realize he was
- 18:52disemboweled. Yes, that says, how much that
- 18:54was kind of. I remember watching that that
- 18:56one time and just thinking to myself, what the fuck, I can't
- 18:59believe they're showing this much and then watching it last
- 19:02night and be like, man, this is definitely is not all of it, and
- 19:06then there was a close-up shot of the Crowbar.
- 19:08Murray shoulder that gets cut. Okay, so the gore and the kills
- 19:15in this movie are fucking fantastic.
- 19:17Tastic listen. We all know from our coverage on
- 19:20Piranha 3D that Alexander. I shall loves some fake blood
- 19:26and he will dedicate a good portion of his budget to gallons
- 19:30and gallons and gallons of fake blood as he should as he should
- 19:35yes. So it delivers on the core
- 19:38aspect. What other movies has he done?
- 19:41He's done this. He did that piranhas and he did
- 19:45crawl. The alligator hurricane.
- 19:47We have not watched that we need to watch the so bad, him and
- 19:50Gregory love Asura, actually work together again.
- 19:52On P2P. That's right P2.
- 19:56I feel like there's something else too.
- 19:58There's lots of things. He's got quite a, he's got a
- 20:00healthy filmography. Thank you.
- 20:05Yeah. All right, I kept trying to say
- 20:06autobiography and I was at all accurate.
- 20:11So yeah, he's done a lot. He to some very violent no but I
- 20:15feel like it's similar. Her in some ways.
- 20:18Yeah there's similarities but like I feel like I would give
- 20:23credit more towards somebody else because well maybe not,
- 20:25maybe he was like me. I want to try and toned down
- 20:27this. I feel like P2 is a better
- 20:29version of this movie. Get out of here.
- 20:31I get the fuck out of here, so this maybe is listed in Time
- 20:35magazine's 10, most ridiculously violent films, yes.
- 20:42And it's like consistent. Like that was a lot of the
- 20:44critic critical feedback that was how it was like,
- 20:47gratuitously violent serving, no purpose to the plot, the fucking
- 20:50point and this is new French extremity.
- 20:53It's a new fucking genre. So one last fun fact.
- 20:58Is that There are a lot of people put it out there up.
- 21:05There were a lot of slot similarities to the book
- 21:09intensity by Dean Koontz. I've heard of this, and Dean
- 21:13Koontz has acknowledged these similarities, but he finds the
- 21:18movie. So simple, and nonsensical over
- 21:23the top violent that he doesn't want to bother pursuing any kind
- 21:27of action against it because he doesn't want his work associated
- 21:30with it. Come on, I'm too good for this
- 21:33shit. I am Dean Koontz and then I have
- 21:36one that I tried to look up. That I thought was really
- 21:40interesting. I read it as a blurb on IMDb and
- 21:42you guys know how I feel about like taking that as like, the
- 21:45straight up fun fact. I wanted I want to verify it and
- 21:48I couldn't find it, but supposedly this was originally
- 21:54written as two films. Really one film was going to be
- 21:58completely from Maria's Viewpoint.
- 22:00So basically, the First two thirds of this movie, right?
- 22:03And the very end would be her in the hospital.
- 22:08And the detective says the detective shows her the clip
- 22:12from the gas station. Like we haven't seen it up until
- 22:15this point, right? He shows her the clip at the gas
- 22:17station where she's the one killing Jimmy and says now, do
- 22:20you want to tell me your story again?
- 22:22And then there was going to be a whole second movie where we see
- 22:25that it was actually Murray doing the whole thing way.
- 22:27So we get the same movie but just her instead, Like we see
- 22:32what actually happened. So this, the movie was
- 22:35originally going to be Murray's version of events.
- 22:37So we think it's just a straight-up, like home invasion,
- 22:39whatever. Until the very end, right?
- 22:41Before credits roll. Yeah, we see the gas station,
- 22:44CCTV footage and then that teases towards a whole new
- 22:50second movie where we see the events as they actually
- 22:52happened. I like that as an ending and I
- 22:55like that as like an idea, but I don't like it if the second
- 23:00move, She is just the same movie reshot with her doing the same
- 23:03shit. Like I would need to have like a
- 23:05new like new things happening. Well, Travis don't worry,
- 23:10because none of what she sees, makes sense.
- 23:13When you consider the fact that she's actually the killer.
- 23:16No, but I have theories. Oh, boy, I have theories.
- 23:20Well, you know what? Go ahead, it's time.
- 23:22It's time for good. Bad, ugly and absurd.
- 23:25Okay. Well what is your, what's your
- 23:28good for this me? Well, I think that this movie is
- 23:34legitimately unsettling, okay, I don't matter how many times I
- 23:39watch it, I watched this movie and it gets to me.
- 23:42It's just fucking creepy. It's brutal and it's
- 23:46unforgiving. Like it's Relentless.
- 23:48You think anybody can be safe? No, nobody is fucking safe in
- 23:51this movie and normally, I'm an advocate for stuff like, and
- 23:55this is going to sound fucked up.
- 23:56But like killing kids movies, like sure because like I don't
- 23:59like having the This takes to wear like, this is going to be a
- 24:02safe character. They're not going to.
- 24:04But this right here like I felt bad for the kid again, actually,
- 24:09does make me feel bad. Yeah, for these people and
- 24:15that's it's different for this type of movie.
- 24:18For me, it is just so believable to like, he's got like that.
- 24:21Perfect little kid energy, like you like Alex hasn't seen the
- 24:24cowboy. Yeah.
- 24:25I know real guy. Like I seriously, like, I it
- 24:29kills me. Seeing this kid on screen
- 24:32knowing what's going to happen to him.
- 24:33But like to me, that means that they're doing the right thing.
- 24:38I'm not supposed to feel indifferent about a kid being
- 24:40killed. I'm supposed to like, have I
- 24:43guess, suppose I have impact and like, all the kills, all of the
- 24:46scenes in this movie, have that impact for me.
- 24:49Okay. What about you?
- 24:51What's your good? I think the gore and effects are
- 24:54really good. I think until we get the twist,
- 24:58I enjoyed the attention of it. I enjoy the story.
- 25:01I enjoy calling it along. I'm going to I'm going to resist
- 25:05asking. What type of tension is?
- 25:09Thank you for resisting that. All right.
- 25:15Like, you know, I don't Hate this movie.
- 25:20I just don't think it's worth watching more than twice really
- 25:25well. We've watched it way more than
- 25:27twice. Yes, I recognize that and that
- 25:30is, you know, part of the compromise that comes along with
- 25:32marriage and you decided that you love a person, you want to
- 25:34spend their life with them, you take them for better and for
- 25:37worse and this is your for worse.
- 25:42This is what you meant. When you Okay, so bad.
- 25:49Um so yeah I I do think that the ending to this movie is kind of
- 25:53weak and I'm not necessarily saying the twist this week, but
- 25:59it just kind of fucking ends and I don't really like it ending
- 26:03with her in that hospital room and her sensing Alex on the
- 26:08other side of like the one-way mirror and she like this.
- 26:12A little like weird like, like well, gasp and reach out.
- 26:15Out towards her also, her Chucky her Bride of Chucky, facial
- 26:19scarring, and large stitches, going across the place, that
- 26:23makes sense. She got fucked up pretty hard in
- 26:25this movie. She takes a lot of damage.
- 26:27All I can see is Chucky When I See This is that really okay.
- 26:30Well that's I mean that's really about all.
- 26:33I could think of bad. I mean the know you know, a lot
- 26:38of people are a big fan of the twist.
- 26:39I don't have a problem with it. My problem with it obviously the
- 26:44twist is my Dad. Yeah.
- 26:45Okay. My problem with it is that if
- 26:47you do a twist like this, it needs to be more clever there.
- 26:53Think it's kind of cool seeing that like that footage of its oh
- 26:57shit. She killed, Jimmy.
- 26:59This is why. I mean it's only worth a Watch
- 27:02twice. Okay, so the First Time The
- 27:03Twist catches you off guard, you look follows you coming.
- 27:07Well, if you watch an 2023, you might see it coming because
- 27:09everybody loves those twists nowadays.
- 27:11Yeah, I think everybody loves the Swiss.
- 27:13I think it's a pretty universally hated twist, but
- 27:18like then the second time you watch it through and you're
- 27:20looking for hints of it and it's the second time watching through
- 27:23that, you're looking for hints of her being the killer, the
- 27:25whole time that you realize the whole thing.
- 27:27Just fucking falls apart. Yeah, and then there's no point
- 27:30watching it again because otherwise, it's just like, like,
- 27:33okay cool. There's a, like, a lot of blood
- 27:34and gore effects. But like, am I just going to
- 27:36watch 40 minutes of it and turn it off?
- 27:38Like, what's happening? I just there are so many things
- 27:41that are Illogical about it. Like, where did the truck come
- 27:45from? Because we've confirmed the
- 27:47truck exists. Where what happened to Jimmy's
- 27:52Car? Did she steal the car?
- 27:53Because you know, at the end the the injury she has come from the
- 27:57car crash where the truck hits like rear-ends er and forces her
- 28:02into a tree, that's the same injury that she had when she
- 28:05called out of there. So where did that injury come
- 28:07from? Like there's just so many like
- 28:09logical things that like It doesn't hold up under scrutiny
- 28:14and it feels very much like about half of em night
- 28:18shyamalan's career. Where he feels like he has to
- 28:20throw a twist into every single movie and sometimes it's
- 28:23revolutionary fucking sixth sense.
- 28:26Like, yeah. That is you go back and you
- 28:28watch that and you find something new.
- 28:29Every fucking time you watch the movie.
- 28:31You're like, oh man. Whoa, yeah.
- 28:34But like, then other times you get like, oh, it's the trees are
- 28:39killing everybody. And it's like, did we meet Not
- 28:41like did it have like what is what are you trying to say?
- 28:46Like you know what I mean? And I just it feels like they
- 28:50wanted to do something with the movie and they tried it this way
- 28:55and I just don't feel like it was fully baked.
- 28:57Okay, do you want to hear my theories about how at all like
- 29:01makes sense or do you want to wait, let's share them with me
- 29:06as we go through. I want you to make the events.
- 29:09Make sense as we're talking, there's no.
- 29:11Not really a single way to do it.
- 29:13It's like an all-encompassing thing.
- 29:15If you're saying that it's all from her head and her
- 29:17perspective, then I'm not taking it.
- 29:18No, not necessarily a partially. I think some of it is her
- 29:22filling in the blanks with her mind.
- 29:25Like, but I also think that all of the events that are
- 29:30happening, where we see the movie play out as her where
- 29:33she's getting chased like, and this may not work for
- 29:36everything, but I think that like I think it would be
- 29:39interesting if it was her like Killing these people and then
- 29:42going back and then reliving everything as herself.
- 29:45And then what we're seeing in this movie is like an
- 29:48amalgamation of both events where she's like playing the
- 29:52Killer and then she's playing the victim.
- 29:56So then what you want is essentially the original pitch
- 29:58that you said you didn't like no, I don't want to, I don't
- 30:02want to see the movie as Her being the Killer and doing like
- 30:07the same shit, but like, it just, it's her, like, we're
- 30:10watching the same movie, and I'm just seeing her there instead of
- 30:13like the man, but that's the thing is that we wouldn't see
- 30:16it. Logically, it makes no, but it's
- 30:18all coming from her head and she is an unreliable narrator.
- 30:23You know what I mean? Like we she's telling us that
- 30:26this is what's happening but it's not true because like she's
- 30:30not well I get that but other movies have done it better.
- 30:34Yeah, sure. Sure.
- 30:34But like I think though the whole thing of her like she goes
- 30:38into her room she kills somebody, she believes her room
- 30:40and she reenters the room with the head of like the headspace
- 30:43of her being Marie. And then she's doing all of the
- 30:46movements as if she were. So like she goes and kills the
- 30:49mom and that room like cuts her neck open, and then she goes
- 30:52into the quaza afterwards and then pretends like to be Marie
- 30:57and then reacting to everything even after she's already killed
- 31:00her. You know what I mean?
- 31:01Which I think if that's the case that would, Takes her like
- 31:05Alex's reactions to her that much more like creepy because
- 31:11like she like what if she's seeing both ends if they like
- 31:13she's see her be Murray for a second and then she likes these
- 31:16are snap into being the Killer and then like she's just getting
- 31:21this jumbled confusing mess of a person and like, that would be
- 31:25terrifying. Now, I don't, I'm not saying
- 31:27necessarily like this just a theory, it's just like an
- 31:31explanation that came to me last night while I was watching us.
- 31:34And so, you know, I could see it can make sense, it's a movie, it
- 31:37doesn't have to be visually, you know, accurate.
- 31:42It's a fucking movie. Listen.
- 31:45So, I story, I am normally the champion of suspension of
- 31:49disbelief, on this podcast, I normally will say, if I can,
- 31:52otherwise enjoy the movie, I will, I will let some things go.
- 31:56Okay, but it just feels lazy. Okay, that's fair.
- 32:01I totally understand why people say that too.
- 32:03And I Understand why this twist doesn't work for everybody
- 32:06because I mean, yeah, it's not exactly an original twist.
- 32:09Like, I'll admit that but like still, it does not take away my
- 32:13enjoyment from this movie at all.
- 32:16It's still a fun ride from start to finish.
- 32:19This movie, does not fucking let up.
- 32:20It gets started so fast and then it just stays going.
- 32:24I truly think if we kept it with the original ending, where we
- 32:28see all of it from Marie's POV and then the ending is the
- 32:31director, is the detective saying, Are you sure?
- 32:35This is your story. Do you want to go through it
- 32:37again and showing her the tape? Then we roll credits?
- 32:39If that's all we get, even if we don't get a follow-up movie, I'm
- 32:42okay with it. It's the same thing, though.
- 32:44It's just a different time of revealing.
- 32:45That information doesn't fix any of the things that happened.
- 32:48Know it doesn't fix anything of it but it doesn't give you time
- 32:50to sit there and think about it and the more we get flashes of
- 32:53Marie actually doing the kills. It's like but wait, you know
- 32:57what I mean? Like.
- 32:58Yeah but then you can't really do the whole thing with Alex in
- 33:01the end, right? Because like It doesn't make
- 33:04sense like it, you'd have to reshoot that it would have to be
- 33:07different because like that whole point of that is like,
- 33:09showing she's been the killer the whole time Alex has
- 33:12recognized us from the start, like, it all makes sense.
- 33:14Why she has not been cooperating with her the entire time You
- 33:19know what I mean? I don't know.
- 33:21I understand I respect everybody's opinion on it but
- 33:24no, it's not gonna ruin. It's Not Gonna Rain on My Parade
- 33:27today. I'm not trying to ruin your
- 33:28parade. I'm just you know, I'm just
- 33:31saying that you yesterday, you were like I don't understand how
- 33:35you don't love this movie. This Is How okay I get it.
- 33:38I get it. What's your ugly?
- 33:41The dog dies and the kid dies and just all of the family, like
- 33:45that whole family. I feel so bad for them because
- 33:47they're like, good people and It's I don't know.
- 33:51They do a good job like you don't get a lot of screen time
- 33:54of them but like seeing that just home life happening it.
- 33:59That's a that's just a way to build like enough for me to care
- 34:03about them and like a good character that I feel, they feel
- 34:07more like real people than most movies like most characters do
- 34:10in movies to me and it sucked having as much as I love the
- 34:15kills and then how I like great. They are like it is kind of
- 34:19Painful seeing it happen to, you know, that type of thing.
- 34:23Okay. What about you?
- 34:25I think the whole thing like that, she's a killer because
- 34:28she's a lesbian is or bisexual is that because though like I
- 34:33think it's like a it's how they tell the story.
- 34:36I don't think it's like, that's the cause of it.
- 34:38I think it's just like a she happens to be that but like I
- 34:42think she would have snapped no matter while like but we see no
- 34:45indication of what makes her snap.
- 34:47So the fact that like the reveal, Is that it was her that
- 34:50she was the killer that she snapped and that she's in love
- 34:53with Alex. Which yes, it's obvious to all
- 34:55of us but she wasn't willing to admit it to herself.
- 34:57Yeah like that all happens all at once so narratively even if
- 35:00that's not the story, they're trying to tell, that's the story
- 35:02that comes across. Okay?
- 35:04Yeah. And I just like I and I hope
- 35:07that's not what they're trying to say but it is like It's kind
- 35:12of like you do realize that you put these two things side by
- 35:15side with each other, right? Like yeah, but like you're
- 35:19making them two major points of character development.
- 35:21I do feel like it is shitty tag. Have it be like that if that's
- 35:25the case. But like at the same time I
- 35:26could see this being the same deal with like you know any
- 35:29other type of relationship to like you know like if it were a
- 35:32movie like that to like with like a man and a woman like it
- 35:35wouldn't be, you know. Say she's not in love with Alex
- 35:41like then she's like doesn't make any more sense or less
- 35:45sense. Like what what is her driving
- 35:48motivation to go on this? Killing Spree?
- 35:51I don't know. Okay, so far all we see is that
- 35:53she is really close to this person and her family, invites
- 35:56her in and she's even framed over the fucking mantle place.
- 35:59And then she just decides she's going to kill them all.
- 36:03I just never really saw it. Like, I think that, I mean, I
- 36:07she does repeat. Nothing's going to be a between
- 36:09this anymore, but like the family was never between them
- 36:12like, you know, like there was never exactly there's never a
- 36:15thing with that. Like, I think it would make
- 36:16sense if it were like if she were killing the men that she
- 36:21keeps like, the Alex keeps talking about like on the car
- 36:24ride and then when they there at the house when they first
- 36:26arrive, like that's what I'm saying.
- 36:28None of, none of her Killing Spree makes any sense.
- 36:31I just want its own and then you add in like the surprise.
- 36:36I'm in love with you. What it is.
- 36:38Add something there that I don't know whether or not they meant
- 36:42for it to be intentional but it's there.
- 36:44Yeah. No, you're right.
- 36:46It's I mean, is there. I just always saw it as like she
- 36:48happened to snap and I don't know, I didn't really think that
- 36:51it was always like because of this because you know I had yeah
- 36:56I just never thought the family was really an obstacle for her
- 36:59being able to pursue a relationship with Alex but what
- 37:03do I know? I don't know.
- 37:05What are we doing? It could be it could not be.
- 37:07Let's move on. Okay.
- 37:09All right. So what do you know, absurd,
- 37:12absurd, my absurd is we have a whole fucking chase scene with
- 37:16The Muse playing like why the fuck are we getting a muse music
- 37:19video in the middle of high tension?
- 37:22And it just like, goes on the entire time, my absurd is using
- 37:26that Muse and Coldplay are interchangeable.
- 37:28That's not actually part of the movie and that was part of my
- 37:31movie watching experience with you last night.
- 37:33I want the ma'am, I won't bring together use fans called Play
- 37:39fans. I'm starting to beef between
- 37:41those bands. Right now, I went to happen, I'm
- 37:44manifest that shit. But in all reality, I think the
- 37:49Absurd of this movie is, oh okay, okay, since we watch the
- 37:56dubbed version but we did still have subtitles on We had this
- 38:02moment at the gas station where the tutor is asking for whiskey
- 38:09and he says, yeah. The, the dubbing says, give me
- 38:14your best the subtitle. Say, J and B.
- 38:18And then when the guy when Jimmy is unlocking, the cabinet and
- 38:23grabs a bottle of J, and B as the subtitles of told him, but
- 38:27as the doves tells us is like His interpretation of the best.
- 38:33The killer says, in the dubbed version.
- 38:37I said your best and in the subtitle, says no, I want to
- 38:41Canadian. Yeah, yeah, whole thing is
- 38:45absurd. It's Campbell when he ends up
- 38:48grabbing as a second bottle. So Campbell is actually the best
- 38:51not J&B apparently. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:54Sorry. Campbell not Canadian.
- 38:56Yeah. Like the whole eye.
- 39:00I am you know this is the Perils of being you know like only
- 39:04monolingual I guess. Yeah I wish I spoke enough.
- 39:07French to understand what is being Lost in Translation
- 39:10between these versions because I'm sure there's like a Nuance
- 39:14between the languages that doesn't transfer over.
- 39:17Yeah, I'm curious too. Okay, so what do you rate this
- 39:21out of tune for you? Only give this a 4.
- 39:25I there's nothing else. That's redeemable about it.
- 39:29I think it's a There was forgettable.
- 39:30Movie, shit gets really violent and it has a lame twist.
- 39:34Damn okay I give this a like a 9 that is so high.
- 39:39You squeak really loud right there.
- 39:41It's ok. It's ok I'll leave it all.
- 39:43Leave the school like a reaction to my nine.
- 39:48It was not microphone. That was Jesse if she was
- 39:50actually screeching. It's honest.
- 39:54Like you came up with the name for something on the Fly.
- 39:56Mike rough. Oh mister Mike Ruff phone.
- 40:02Oh my God. Okay, I'm developing in the
- 40:04William Shatner as I get older like I find weird pauses.
- 40:08Whenever I speak sometimes text that looks, I see this weekend
- 40:17and I made a joke about how he never pronounces the X and Texas
- 40:21and Travis was like, that's not true.
- 40:23I don't like pay attention to for the resident.
- 40:25Says, these are the x axis. Yeah.
- 40:29Okay. Let's pay attention for the
- 40:31rest. The movie and you by the end,
- 40:34you're like, oh my God, he really doesn't he just goes
- 40:36Texas. Texas.
- 40:38Keeps winning team. Okay, let's not talk about Miss
- 40:44Congeniality. Let's talk about high tension,
- 40:46always starting, average of six point five, six months.
- 40:48Okay, cool. That's that's pretty good.
- 40:50What was that? I'm DB 6.7.
- 40:54Oh damn, we are under again two times in a row.
- 40:58Rose that happened. Okay, so the movie opens up with
- 41:03Marie at the hospital. It's like we start at the end.
- 41:06Yeah, she's just repeating. I Won't Anyone.
- 41:08I won't let anyone come between us anymore.
- 41:10And then are they recording? Just how Jesse opened it?
- 41:13Yep. Then it cuts to the then Alex
- 41:17and Marie on a road trip together.
- 41:19Well, no, no, she is, it's a flash of her running through the
- 41:24woods, which do, you know, is the end of the movie.
- 41:27But then she wakes up, The car and she says, I had this dream,
- 41:30I was being chased in the woods and I could fill the killer even
- 41:33though I couldn't see him and Alex is like, well, did he ever
- 41:38catch and she goes? Well, that's the thing.
- 41:39Is that it turns out that I was the killer the whole time.
- 41:42Yeah, I love how I just out front.
- 41:45Just tells you right here. I'm the killer.
- 41:48So they're going to Alex's family home because they're
- 41:50studying for exams. And apparently that's where Alex
- 41:53is able to study best and Marie's just tagging along
- 41:56because I guess she's, yeah. I also needs to study.
- 42:00Yeah. I guess they have the same
- 42:01classes. Yeah.
- 42:03So we get a shot of her family and her little brothers dresses.
- 42:06Cowboy. She wants her to see her him and
- 42:10his Cowboy outfit, and it's really sweet, and I feel really
- 42:13bad for this kid. It's a little.
- 42:16Knock off Woody. Yeah.
- 42:19Yeah. Like the kind, you get like the
- 42:21general store doesn't say like Woody.
- 42:22It says toy cats. Probably.
- 42:24Yeah, Walmart. Yeah.
- 42:27Next up, we see this guy in a scary truck and it's a very
- 42:32scary truck. Yeah.
- 42:33That's like the like you see that truck on the road?
- 42:35And you're like that dudes, definitely murdered some people.
- 42:38It's the the fucking Jeepers Creepers truck-based.
- 42:42Yeah. He's people like to say I'm not
- 42:45going to go for the obvious drug.
- 42:46It's a world sex from like a decapitated head.
- 42:49I hate that joke because it's so demeaning to the person.
- 42:52That was both like assaulted both in terms of being killed
- 42:56and then their corpse. Being like a salted further.
- 42:59Yeah, so yeah, it's just so and he just like he's done and just
- 43:03dumps ahead out the truck and drives off.
- 43:05Yeah, it's it is an interesting way to introduce us to the
- 43:11killer as we see them for most of the movie, which this guy's
- 43:14actually fucking creepy. Well, okay, and here's another
- 43:17thing. So on the dashboard of this
- 43:19truck, he's got a bunch of pictures, like cut out.
- 43:22Heads of the women, he's murdered and we see that later
- 43:26in the truck. Again, it's just all the person
- 43:30from her dream, like, it's not a real person.
- 43:32It's not a real truck if that truck does exist.
- 43:35I think it's probably on that farm.
- 43:38I just, I don't know. It's I mean, but yeah, I just
- 43:42think it's, it's not real man. It's just not real.
- 43:46You got to accept it. I know you don't want to accept
- 43:48it but that's just how it is in this movie.
- 43:49Why even show this? Because it's, you don't want to
- 43:52know that. It's not real.
- 43:53Like you guys it's building it up to make you think that it is
- 43:55real life. I know first, why I don't care.
- 44:00It's creepy. That's if I were a director for
- 44:04our Rider of. So my question is, why the fuck
- 44:06Travis? Did you have the scene on page
- 44:0811? I don't care, it's creepy, shut
- 44:11the fuck up. That's my best.
- 44:14You know what, fair so they arrived Alex's home and Alex
- 44:20spots someone in the cornfield in the middle of the night.
- 44:23So she stops the car to go out there.
- 44:25Check it and Maria's like okay I'll go follow you because I'm
- 44:29fucking creeped out. Yeah she was out there gets lost
- 44:33in the corn field and then she hears the car start up and then
- 44:36drive off, Alex. I can't believe I would be
- 44:42pissed if you did that to me. I was thinking to, like, at
- 44:47least she could hear the sound of the car driving away.
- 44:49That we should know which direction to go.
- 44:50But like, yeah, corn fields are nothing to fuck with like that's
- 44:53why they have fucking corn mazes and like, Like, okay, so also we
- 44:58get a little bit of back story on Alex's family.
- 45:01They just moved here about six months ago from not France.
- 45:06Like I barely speak. French is supposed to be the
- 45:08thing. I couldn't tell you because I
- 45:10speak French. Yeah and we do not so it's a
- 45:14million sounds like perfectly plausible French when we watch
- 45:17the French version what do I know?
- 45:21No yeah they mentioned like oh yeah the hillbillies were kind
- 45:24of not really fond of a servers but You've kind of been all
- 45:28right. Now rednecks?
- 45:29Yeah, rednecks. Whenever I did not know rednecks
- 45:32for international. I always thought it was like a
- 45:33strictly American thing. I feel like I've been
- 45:36enlightened. No, it's always been like a
- 45:38little bit more My Favorite Things, whenever I was looking
- 45:40up movies for our to be or not to be American Gothic
- 45:45apparently, like, one of the sub genres is Hicks boy, Tatian.
- 45:50You know what? Yeah.
- 45:51Yeah, I like it. Yeah, goodnight Rach.
- 45:53I would imagine slaughterhouse also falls into that maybe this
- 45:56to exploit Station. Okay.
- 45:59So the get home and it's like in the middle of the night and the
- 46:03dad greets them at the door and he's super welcoming.
- 46:06He's like hey, it's nice to finally meet you and not just
- 46:08see the picture that we have you above our mantle and Maria's
- 46:11like what the fuck do you have a picture of me above your man?
- 46:14Smells like is a picture I took in Spain.
- 46:16So here's the thing I think Alex might be a little bone love of
- 46:19Marie to its I mean yeah it's there and they are a perfectly
- 46:22plausible. Couple clearly she is important
- 46:24to her and her family. Is that too?
- 46:28Yeah, I don't know. But her like the entire time on
- 46:31the car trip there and then here in the kitchen, she's just
- 46:33talking about like all these boys that she's chasing after
- 46:36and Marie, was even like upset with her for ditching her the
- 46:40night before to go hang out with a guy.
- 46:42So yeah Marine slut Shane's. The hell out of her supposedly
- 46:47best friend. Yeah she does like she calls her
- 46:49a slut and a whore and all kinds of other things that I don't
- 46:53know how they get. I don't know how I adequately
- 46:55they were translated, but I don't think I've never heard
- 46:58some of this terminology, and I've got a mean mouth on me, so
- 47:03some nasty stuff, so they're all going to bed and Murray decides
- 47:09to go outside the smoke. And then she's like watching
- 47:12them all from outside the house which is kind of creepy but then
- 47:15she goes upstairs. Well, she sees Alex naked in the
- 47:18shower, she does. Yeah because I think it's kind
- 47:22eye contact with her too. Well, they're still renovating
- 47:24the house and as you know, one of them.
- 47:27Most expensive and hardest pieces of renovation to
- 47:30accomplish is putting up the shower curtain.
- 47:32Yeah. So you have to shower with like
- 47:34it just completely open. I mean that's how I yeah yeah
- 47:37it's a bitch but I mean we've lived here for two years and we
- 47:40still don't have a shower curtain note why don't you sue?
- 47:42Yeah everywhere I just had our bathroom is a mess so she goes
- 47:48upstairs and I made a note here like okay so she goes
- 47:53everybody's going to sleep but instead she turns on some music
- 47:56and she starts To like masturbate.
- 47:58And that's listen. Here's the thing though, too.
- 48:01Is that like think whatever? I don't care what you do.
- 48:07Get yourself tired enough to go to bed like relax, it's fine.
- 48:09Why are you still in your fucking jeans?
- 48:12Yeah, that's in sweatpants I have never been comfortable
- 48:15enough and maybe I'm just the prude but I've never been
- 48:18comfortable enough to like do something like this, at a
- 48:21friend's house, you know what I mean?
- 48:24I guess especially the very first day.
- 48:26I meet the family like I'm definitely going to Jo.
- 48:28And he yeah, you guys are super welcoming.
- 48:32Thank you guys, for making me feel comfortable, he casa su
- 48:35casa. All right, I can, especially,
- 48:38especially putting on the headphones.
- 48:39So you can't hear like, what if like Mom was like woke up in the
- 48:43middle of next week? I just wanted to introduce
- 48:45myself a glass of warm milk. Like, what do you do?
- 48:50Like, you got jeans on to and like, you're not gonna get your
- 48:54hands out of there? Yeah.
- 48:55That's tight jeans even though. And so and it's not a carpal
- 49:00tunnel situation which we were not because of this but we were
- 49:04just talking about carpal tunnel.
- 49:07Why were we talking about carpal?
- 49:08Tunnel is you're talking about the weight of your margarita
- 49:10glass. Oh yeah though there's a hefty
- 49:12class now have two pans Empty Glass so like as she like
- 49:18finishes like she like yes finishes that's when the truck
- 49:23arrives and I'm like is this symbolic of something?
- 49:27Like is like are we supposed to like have a relation to this guy
- 49:34coming down the driveway as she's doing that like she's
- 49:37like, all right, I did and now it's time to traveling.
- 49:40This is why conservatives don't want women to explore enjoyment
- 49:45of sex. Because when a woman climaxes,
- 49:48she turns into a murderous Frenchman, I mean, they were
- 49:53right all along the proofs in the pudding, okay.
- 49:57Eddie has watched high tension, all of like the Republicans,
- 50:00it's like a staple within that party.
- 50:04So she after she finishes, she actually takes her headphones
- 50:08off and here is Hendricks downstairs barking.
- 50:11Which how did she not hear that before?
- 50:12How loud was her fucking cassette player?
- 50:15Dogs? Are allowed as fuck.
- 50:16Tell ya 02. Yeah, volume doorbell rings.
- 50:21The dad goes down there to answer it and then as he opens
- 50:24the door, he gets a hammer to the Head.
- 50:27And then the dog dies, unfortunately.
- 50:31But he attacks for his he does get a good bad on the killer.
- 50:34So he went down. Putting it in ya.
- 50:38Then he takes the dad and he does a little Halloween kill was
- 50:42action sticks. His head in between the banister
- 50:44poles and then takes the like the what is this thing like a
- 50:49dresser wardrobe? Like I think it's like a
- 50:52console. Like it's like a type of desk.
- 50:54Yeah, Wikipedia calls it a Bookcase, but that's not what
- 50:59bookcases look like. Either way, it's a bookcase for
- 51:02a person that doesn't like to read.
- 51:04Yeah, probably. Yeah.
- 51:06Well, he pushes it shows it against his head and just like,
- 51:09yeah, snaps his neck. Yeah, obliterates that Skull,
- 51:13Man. Yeah, so of course, this wakes
- 51:16up the mother and the little boy, Tom got.
- 51:20It feel so bad for the kids and the mom is saying, like go back
- 51:23to bed. I go back to bed, I wouldn't do
- 51:25that. Be like you'd come with me.
- 51:27Me and get into my room right now.
- 51:28I will protect you that way. But for her, she's like, goes
- 51:31just go somewhere else, get the fuck out.
- 51:33Go away. Tom suck.
- 51:38So she we just hear screaming Marie sees a phone in her room.
- 51:45It's not plugged in, so she's trying to find where the plug
- 51:48goes. And she's got an armoire and she
- 51:53can't move it. So this is where I also called
- 51:58some Shenanigans and some pothole issues because she can
- 52:02fucking Ram the same console from the same furniture set into
- 52:07a man's head. Hard enough to Kappa his de
- 52:10tete. I'm and this she can't like
- 52:14scooch a couple inches to get to an outlet.
- 52:17She's channeling in you know like the like lifting the car
- 52:21over like you know off of somebody like off your child
- 52:24type energy like That's what she's doing when she's in that
- 52:28killing the wherever she's going upstairs and doing this shit.
- 52:32She's just week from all the killing.
- 52:35She has been to muscle, like, if she just, like, running up and
- 52:38down these stairs to. Yeah, exactly.
- 52:44You know what? Maybe I do want to watch the
- 52:45second movie, then if this is how it plays out the yeah, I
- 52:54like it. And I kind of like the idea of
- 52:58all of the phones being sabotaged.
- 53:01It's the weren't like circumstantial sabotages, like I
- 53:04wish you'd be like, oh, the lines cut or all the thing got
- 53:07smashed. Like, instead of her just being
- 53:09like, oh darn, that's a TV, plug mashes, it runs out the room
- 53:12runs back into the room tries to use the phone.
- 53:14What the fuck? What?
- 53:15Yeah, well and okay. So here, I like this part.
- 53:18So the killer comes up straight like and she realizes she
- 53:21doesn't have a way out because the Killer's downstairs and she
- 53:24doesn't know how she's gonna sneak past.
- 53:26So So she packs up her shit real quick, makes it look like
- 53:28nobody's been in this room. Except she doesn't turn off the
- 53:31fucking light. That's true.
- 53:33Yeah. And she like, she even dries out
- 53:37the sink. Yeah.
- 53:39So she's smart. The killer comes in, and he's
- 53:41checking things. Like, he checks the heater, and
- 53:44she is French. And I guess the fruit.
- 53:46The French are notoriously like not afraid of the cold.
- 53:48I don't know. That's according to Marie.
- 53:51That's how it is because she's an alternate on if I get cold,
- 53:53bitch. So like okay, well, that's still
- 53:57cool. So let's go ahead and we're
- 53:59going to go into the bathroom, the sinks dry.
- 54:01But then he touches the faucet and he gets some water and he's
- 54:05like, how and he pulls back the shower curtains.
- 54:07But nobody's there. And then I guess he just gives
- 54:09up, which doesn't make any sense.
- 54:10If you are smart enough that you're going to touch like the
- 54:12faucet to get the water like that.
- 54:14You're going to look everywhere else.
- 54:15I'm saying this from like a pre twist knowledge point of view.
- 54:18I agree. Yeah.
- 54:20Laughs asked in this room. Yeah, like okay, well, you're
- 54:22smart enough to do this but you're not even going to look
- 54:24under the bed. That's the Children know, that's
- 54:27where you look for a monster. Why wouldn't a monster look
- 54:29there for a child? Making good points.
- 54:33I don't know. I don't have an answer to this
- 54:35but yes, so yeah. So anyway, Alex has like the
- 54:42world's best fucking ear plugs in to see you didn't wake up to
- 54:46any of those, still oblivious. And here's the thing, I love the
- 54:49concept of sleeping with some earplugs in.
- 54:51So that way you don't hear it sounds like that.
- 54:52But how do these type of people live without alarm clocks?
- 54:55Because if you don't hear other sounds, are you going to hear
- 54:57your alarm clock if you don't have an alarm?
- 54:59I think that would be an interesting way to do it, but
- 55:01they were going Up at 9:30. And they were going to start
- 55:03studying international law, that was their plan for the next day,
- 55:07I'm at the point in my life. Now, I don't need an alarm to
- 55:10like, wake up that early, like I just my body wakes up early
- 55:13anymore. Like, I can't help it.
- 55:15I want to sleep in but I can't. So yeah.
- 55:18Like on the weekend if I sleep in till 9:30 is like, man, I am
- 55:21so fully rested. Yeah, exactly.
- 55:23Even if we were up until like three of the night before his
- 55:25like 9:30 is, yeah, he does. My body will sleep in.
- 55:28Yeah. God, I hate being old.
- 55:31Yes. So yeah, finds Alex.
- 55:35She wakes up and then she like here's more commotion.
- 55:40So she goes to wonder around the house as she goes into the
- 55:43parents room and she's looking for a phone no she's looking for
- 55:46a phone but then she hears a sound.
- 55:49So she hides in the closet. And then the Matic, the mom, not
- 55:57the killer that comes in and Marie is about to get out of the
- 56:03closet, except the killer follows, the mom in and like
- 56:06almost completely cuts her head off, not quite, but he does cut
- 56:10her arm off because she's trying to use the phone.
- 56:14Yeah, so, she like wants to kill her leave.
- 56:17She goes out to see the mom of the moms like, why?
- 56:20Which I think is really the only moment that and think Alex is
- 56:24reactions from reuse. Those are the only moments that
- 56:26like post was. It's kind of like, okay, I get
- 56:28that. Now, if it feels kind of selfish
- 56:31like, why me like not everybody else, I get it but why me?
- 56:35You know, like yeah. Like but I can't just ask why I
- 56:40haven't You yet. I was in bed by the time you
- 56:43got. Ya, why are you killing me?
- 56:47Yeah. Like I mean just ask why that
- 56:49makes more sense. Why Sonny when that phone's not
- 56:54working? She hears Tom running and being
- 56:58followed and she is like I'm gonna go try and find Alex
- 57:03instead I can suck how she does not really any effort, she does
- 57:08not care the kids, she watches the kid.
- 57:11I think even Just run out the room and it's like, this is our
- 57:16chance. Let's go.
- 57:17Yeah, your brother was a brave, he sacrificed himself for us.
- 57:21Let's take this opportunity to get out of here.
- 57:22I do hate Alex hearing Tom out in the cornfield shouting Mommy,
- 57:28Mommy, so that being shot with a shotgun.
- 57:31It sucks, man. That yeah I hate that and Alex's
- 57:35realization of what's going on. It's just like it's harp.
- 57:37The whole thing is just awful. Yeah.
- 57:39Okay. So she finds Alex he's like The
- 57:42killer kept you alive for a reason.
- 57:44I wonder why and basically if you wanted you to hear it killed
- 57:48you already. You know what?
- 57:50I think I'd rather die than whatever this kind of a sadistic
- 57:52person is going to do to me next.
- 57:54Yeah exactly. I don't want to be his trophy
- 57:55item in my suffering. Yes I'm totally cool with it.
- 57:58See this is why I would never survive in a solid route because
- 58:00I'm like, you know what? In the out of give me the quick
- 58:03option. Please agree.
- 58:06So, ultimately, the killer takes Alex, and puts her in the back
- 58:10of his truck. And which, how did, how did
- 58:15Marie Curie Alex out of here? Because I think Marie probably
- 58:18weighs a solid, like, 15 20 pounds, more than I'm sure it
- 58:23probably weighs about 15 or 20 pounds more than Marie.
- 58:26I am sure that this stuff is probably not playing like the
- 58:30way they we see here. Yeah, I could see her.
- 58:32Maybe dragging her out, you know.
- 58:34I mean they could show the killer doing that too though.
- 58:37Because then we get to see like Alex like freaking out and like
- 58:40fighting back and like maybe we get a little We'll hit like oh
- 58:42shit is Alex actually super strong because she like she's
- 58:45throwing the killer off balance, you know what I mean?
- 58:47Like that's what I'm saying. This could have been done and
- 58:49I'm much more clever way. Sure.
- 58:51Yeah. Like where this person is
- 58:53instead of we have to hand wave like, oh, this is just how
- 58:56Marie's filling it in. Yeah, you know what?
- 58:58Sure, I'm okay with it. But I understand that's a legit
- 59:01criticism right there. So Marie has like snuck into the
- 59:06car or the trunk, but has a did get a knife.
- 59:10Yeah. And ready to pounce on them.
- 59:11Guy. But instead of actually coming
- 59:13around back to look inside, just shuts the door and drives off
- 59:16with him. Can you imagine that being Alex
- 59:19and Maria is like here I got this knife hold on to it just in
- 59:23case and like Marie has just murdered your whole family and
- 59:27is presumably going to murder you after torturing you some
- 59:31like but also gives you this week.
- 59:33Yeah. He's like is that like that?
- 59:36Maybe like, wow, I'm a better wanting a challenge.
- 59:38I don't know. Maybe like that.
- 59:39Yeah, test me. Yeah.
- 59:41It was gonna kill me. It's going to be you learn it.
- 59:44Yeah, that's her driving. We manages to successfully pick
- 59:49the lock of the back of the truck and then the killer stops
- 59:52at a gas station to gas up. So, she takes that opportunity
- 59:56to hop out real quick. That's where she gives her the
- 59:58knife. Like, hey I'm might not be back
- 59:59if not take this knife. Yeah, check yourself.
- 1:00:02You'll be able runs inside and kind of hides.
- 1:00:05Her like tells Jimmy who is the gas station Cory quick.
- 1:00:08Hey, call the cops shits going down, he's like what's
- 1:00:10happening? And then she she runs away
- 1:00:12because the killers coming in, I want to see more than any other
- 1:00:21scene in the movie. I want to see this gas station
- 1:00:24seen one. Her enemies perspective.
- 1:00:26Yeah I say hey Jimmy is like I'm not name's not even Jimmy I'm
- 1:00:30not even fucking Jimmy like I'm French.
- 1:00:33Well hey it's Sean is Jean-Pierre.
- 1:00:39Yeah it's like okay yeah give me your best.
- 1:00:47Said your bus? He's like well in French.
- 1:00:50You actually said, give me J of be but that's fine.
- 1:00:55But it was like I bet you like to fuck the old ladies that come
- 1:00:58here like what? But like it's coming from Murray
- 1:01:00and his Murray doing a voice. I just don't know what can you
- 1:01:06imagine if ya? Like imagine if you saw me like
- 1:01:11Iran is also suggest call 911 real quick and then like I run
- 1:01:15out of the house. Then I come back in through the
- 1:01:17door and I'm like hey Travis you ever fuck any old ladies here
- 1:01:21late at night and try to get started.
- 1:01:25You don't understand. I don't like this.
- 1:01:30Okay, so quick that makes Jimmy's hesitation to call the
- 1:01:34police even more confusing because him is my, he's like,
- 1:01:39you know what, maybe I maybe she's Miss.
- 1:01:43She thinks I'm somebody else. Almost, see how this plays out.
- 1:01:46She weighs 80 pounds. Yeah, it probably takers.
- 1:01:49I got a nice goatee. Yeah, I'm definitely not gonna
- 1:01:52drop my guard at all around her. Yeah, which like, what was
- 1:01:56Reasoning for that to like, because it doesn't like, wait,
- 1:02:00she's grabbing the drink from the, what did she ask for her?
- 1:02:03Because she runs off from way off frame.
- 1:02:06When we see the CCTV footage, that's why I've liked for the
- 1:02:10humor effect. But also, I want to see
- 1:02:13logistically, how it played out in the gas station?
- 1:02:15Well, we do see from the footage here.
- 1:02:17We do have some footage of what really went down.
- 1:02:20She runs up to him with the axe and gets him right in the chest.
- 1:02:24I'm saying like we don't see. See him going to get it, like,
- 1:02:29get the whiskey for her? I don't know.
- 1:02:31Dude, you can't keep asking this every single scene.
- 1:02:34The same question every single time I wouldn't, if they didn't
- 1:02:38put those twists in there, it's just it is, is they needed to be
- 1:02:42asking it while they were writing this.
- 1:02:44So that way they could make it make sense.
- 1:02:46I suppose, I don't know. I don't have a better answer for
- 1:02:49you Talia. I need you to stop.
- 1:02:50We don't need your input. Talia hates this movie to
- 1:02:54spoiler for her rating at, oh, yeah.
- 1:02:56By the way. Yeah, she, she's letting us know
- 1:03:01right now and the police. Yeah.
- 1:03:11And the police are not helpful at all.
- 1:03:13I know what gas station are. Yeah.
- 1:03:15She's like, I don't fucking know.
- 1:03:16I'm not from here, and they're like, can't help you.
- 1:03:18If you don't know where you're at, calm down ma'am.
- 1:03:20Like. Okay.
- 1:03:22Okay. So they're just As good as
- 1:03:23American cops over there. Cool.
- 1:03:26So she gets pissed off and hangs up on them and then she said to
- 1:03:30go to the bathroom. Yes, the killer has the same
- 1:03:33impulse. Yeah.
- 1:03:34Did she actually go in there to pee?
- 1:03:36Like I feel like that's probably actually a thing that happened.
- 1:03:39This is this right here like in her head like yeah this is what
- 1:03:43is she? Just went to go pee, wash your
- 1:03:45hands, all that stuff. So then she goes and she takes
- 1:03:49the cashiers car. And she's going to fall to track
- 1:03:51because she hears the truck drive away.
- 1:03:53Yeah. So she takes cashiers car and
- 1:03:56the gun from under the counter and she follows I've died.
- 1:03:59Look at this see this wrong just Jimmy have a Confederate flag on
- 1:04:04his car. I didn't see that looked like he
- 1:04:08had it on his plate. I thought.
- 1:04:09So I could be wrong. Are you, what's the French flag?
- 1:04:13Look like. Maybe you're just so conditioned
- 1:04:15living in the South to like I've seen a lot of Confederation and
- 1:04:18you're like, which I thought like if The case I did have a
- 1:04:24can like a moment in my mind. No, the French flag looks
- 1:04:26nothing like the Confederate flag.
- 1:04:28It's that's wow. What?
- 1:04:30Basic flag red white and blue baby.
- 1:04:32Just man, who waited until 30 seconds before the design was
- 1:04:37due to turn in the leg? I don't know.
- 1:04:40I could be wrong. I'm not a flag person.
- 1:04:42I know there's a lot of people that walk flags and think that
- 1:04:45they're cool. So if you are one of those
- 1:04:47people in that, you've seen this movie, tell me, did I say the
- 1:04:50Confederate flag or does he some other flag?
- 1:04:52I don't know. But yeah, so she's following the
- 1:04:56killer in Alex and they take a detour through like a wooded
- 1:05:00area. So she like turns off her
- 1:05:02headlights and starts to follow again, smart.
- 1:05:05Hmm. However, at some point, she
- 1:05:08loses track of the van, the van or the truck.
- 1:05:11The truck falls behind her. They have a Chase and he's like
- 1:05:17bumping into her which doesn't make any sense, because she's in
- 1:05:20a little sports car and he's off roads, man, like you can't be
- 1:05:23driving super fast. That's true.
- 1:05:25That's actually well, she doesn't give a shit.
- 1:05:27Jimmy doesn't give a shit. Nobody actually cares about this
- 1:05:30car anymore. It doesn't get shit.
- 1:05:31Jimmy, it's like still alive. He's like, he's like, have you
- 1:05:36ever seen a horror movie? You can survive a single Stab
- 1:05:38Wound. Yeah, he's a little axe, the
- 1:05:40chasm. Okay.
- 1:05:42It's just an accident. Yeah.
- 1:05:46Okay, so yeah, she ends up wrecking the car and like flips
- 1:05:50over pretty badly manages to get out and find like a little
- 1:05:55Greenhouse area with like plants and shit.
- 1:05:58And the as you find in a greenhouse you do and she gets
- 1:06:02out and the killer chases after her in there, which again, the
- 1:06:06kill. And here's the thing, is that,
- 1:06:08like, I think this movie could have been so much more
- 1:06:10interesting if they didn't put in this twist because they're
- 1:06:12both very clever. Has like, he's takes his belt
- 1:06:16and his flashlight and he hangs the flashlight up.
- 1:06:18So that way she thinks that he's over there.
- 1:06:20But really he's hiding behind her and he attacks her with a
- 1:06:22plastic sheet. Yeah.
- 1:06:23But meanwhile, she's taking this post and she's wrapped some
- 1:06:26barbed wire around it and she's got like a weapon ready.
- 1:06:29Like I want to see these two like actually battle it out as
- 1:06:32to real people that are smart, but on different ends of the
- 1:06:35spectrum of evil. Maybe if they remade this movie
- 1:06:38and they just made it straight up, not a Twist and it's just a
- 1:06:42killer in this is just a girl. You know, run with it.
- 1:06:47I guess that could be. I think I would still enjoy the
- 1:06:50movie. I would probably like it more.
- 1:06:52If it was just like a straight-up home invasion movie.
- 1:06:54Yeah. Because you know what we know
- 1:06:56for a fact that Alexander ajja can take like a fairly basic
- 1:07:00premise when we've seen it before and make it a lot of fun
- 1:07:03and really gory. He does it with P2, he did it
- 1:07:05with Piranha 3D. We're going to check out crawl.
- 1:07:09I'm not big on creature features but I have a feeling I'm going
- 1:07:12to enjoy that movie. I am too.
- 1:07:14So So, I just like, I wish that they hadn't like, force this in
- 1:07:18there. Yeah, I get it.
- 1:07:20I get, I get the hate for it. I'm not trying to make you hate
- 1:07:25the movie. I'm just later.
- 1:07:26I'm feeling very passionate. Yeah, you're not going to
- 1:07:28change. I am unwavering on this.
- 1:07:30I know, I just want you to know because you keep like, you're
- 1:07:32doing, like, the like looks calm down voice.
- 1:07:35Like I'm not. No, I'm just trying to you.
- 1:07:37Yeah, I could tell you it's the same answer every single time.
- 1:07:40I understand. It doesn't make sense.
- 1:07:43Yes. PP.
- 1:07:47It's just scary. Okay.
- 1:07:50So yeah, she like takes that barbed wire posts and actually
- 1:07:53beats the shit out of him in the head with and you think he's
- 1:07:56dead. But yeah, it has one, last jump
- 1:07:59scare but then she like has the plastic around him and she
- 1:08:02chokes him out. Yeah.
- 1:08:04And then We see the cops arrive at the gas station and I go, oh
- 1:08:09shit. I gotta call the coroner accept,
- 1:08:11and then subtitles, it said, da, which you don't you don't go
- 1:08:14straight to the DA. You get a, we got a whole bunch
- 1:08:17of other steps first, I don't know, maybe it's different in
- 1:08:19France. They're like we don't need a
- 1:08:21medical examiner to tell us. This guy's dead.
- 1:08:23I like their cop car though. It's kind of cool.
- 1:08:26It's kind of boxy. I dig it.
- 1:08:29That's when they see the footage, the security footage.
- 1:08:33Yeah. And discover that.
- 1:08:35At. The killer was teeny tiny little
- 1:08:40Marie and she looks straight at the camera like she's like yeah,
- 1:08:43what? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:45Well you can see like in her mind as she doesn't kill and
- 1:08:48then I guess it is right here is supposed to be probably what the
- 1:08:53actual explanation is she like goes into like a state.
- 1:08:58Yeah and state just like looks up into the sky and it's just
- 1:09:02like then that right there is probably where everything is
- 1:09:05like coming together in her head that We're seeing how I'm sure I
- 1:09:09guess so. Yeah, they know that that's the
- 1:09:13deal. So we see Marie go to the back
- 1:09:15of the truck to free Alex and she's like, hey, it's cool.
- 1:09:19I killed the killer like and Alex is like what the fuck are
- 1:09:22you talking about? Like Maria finally gets Alex
- 1:09:26Unchained. Yeah by the way somewhere
- 1:09:29somehow Marie found chains and a few padlocks and was able to
- 1:09:35wrap these around Alex without it.
- 1:09:37The truck. They were just in the truck.
- 1:09:39She was chained up before they laugh.
- 1:09:42Yeah, right. Well, she went outside to go
- 1:09:44smoke. Maybe she found them out there.
- 1:09:49I'm fighting for this thing. So, yeah, when she gets her
- 1:09:54unchanged, Alex grabs the knife and she's like, get the fuck
- 1:09:57away from me and they're like fun.
- 1:10:00She's like, you killed my family and this is where we see the
- 1:10:02flashes of the murder except they're all being performed by
- 1:10:06Marie. Yeah.
- 1:10:08And so Alex stabs her and runs off.
- 1:10:10And now Maria is the killer again and we go back and forth
- 1:10:14between her being the Killer and not being the Killer, and I need
- 1:10:16to ask you, if you heard this the same way I did, so the
- 1:10:20Killer Grabs the concrete saw from the front of the truck and
- 1:10:26he's running and chasing. Alex Haley.
- 1:10:28Woods. There was something in the audio
- 1:10:33that was a little bit weird. Did it sound to you?
- 1:10:36Like the killer was going very good weapon actually didn't work
- 1:10:43this entire time. Either like that.
- 1:10:48Look, I swear. I was like Shirley I'm just
- 1:10:51hearing the audio but I saw you. You were making fun of the
- 1:10:57captions where the caption just said broom.
- 1:11:00For what if this whole time? She's not actually been driving
- 1:11:03either. She's just been going from,
- 1:11:07like, all of this has just been like what she fantasizes about
- 1:11:10when she makes your face. Yeah.
- 1:11:22Alex is the like one of the luckiest people ever in a horror
- 1:11:25movie because she's in secluded woods and like the least
- 1:11:28traveled road, but she manages to flag down a car that actually
- 1:11:32stops for her. Well, kind of has to Swerve out
- 1:11:35of the way and swerves off the road.
- 1:11:37Kind of wrecking a little bit. Yeah.
- 1:11:39And then she doesn't even ask if she can get in the car.
- 1:11:41She just opens the door. Just go.
- 1:11:42Okay. And the guys like what the fuck
- 1:11:43is happening and then he's like yeah, looks behind them.
- 1:11:47There's a fucking person, chasing them with a cement bus
- 1:11:50sauce. And that's terrifying car won't
- 1:11:52start Marie jumps on top of the car and then gets on the
- 1:11:57windshield and just fucking buzzes right through it.
- 1:12:01And man, this is probably my favorite gonna movie so much
- 1:12:04blood and like we've watched enough behind the scenes stuff
- 1:12:07that I'm just like pick because we see Alexander Alex's face in
- 1:12:11the bag. Yeah just being covered with
- 1:12:13blood and you can just picture like off-screen ginetto like
- 1:12:17with a couple spray bottles anime wins.
- 1:12:21Being in the backseat guy. Like he's just like yeah,
- 1:12:25fucking shooting everywhere. It's so gory but I love it so
- 1:12:29much. So yeah, through all of this
- 1:12:33Alex has crawled out of the car and she's just crawling down the
- 1:12:35road. She's got a giant Shard of glass
- 1:12:38like stuck in her heel. Yeah, it's painful to look at
- 1:12:41because at first you can't see it.
- 1:12:42You're like, why is she home? Why are you calling?
- 1:12:44Yeah, and then it like closes in your like oh that makes sense.
- 1:12:48Yeah and then Maria's like, you love me.
- 1:12:52Say you love me. You don't love me.
- 1:12:53Do you? And she like forces a kiss on
- 1:12:56her and then that's when Alex stabs her through the chest.
- 1:13:00Chest with a crowbar, which that had to have taken a lot of force
- 1:13:03because I feel like a crowbar. Isn't like if she can do that,
- 1:13:07then Murray has been capable of doing all these streets.
- 1:13:10By Feats of I would argue Alex, has more of a, cause for
- 1:13:13adrenaline in the moment it already has.
- 1:13:15She's like, in her mind, she's thought that she's been chased,
- 1:13:19like, she's got that adrenaline pumping to she's feeding off of
- 1:13:22it. So yeah, she's been stabbed and
- 1:13:26then it cuts to the hospital that opening the movie in the
- 1:13:29hospital. She's Just saying nothing will
- 1:13:31stand between us now. And we see Alex is looking at
- 1:13:35her through a one-way mirror and just can't see me.
- 1:13:38Can she and the doctors like that and then Alex reason guy
- 1:13:43just reaches out at her? Yeah, and that's a saw, the
- 1:13:47movie ends It's kind of a week ending.
- 1:13:51Definitely think I could have ended better than that.
- 1:13:53Here's the thing. Talking about this, I had fun
- 1:13:56talking about it. I like the direction of
- 1:13:59everything. I just think that the twist
- 1:14:01makes everything fall apart, and if they took it away, it would
- 1:14:03be so much better. That is the fact of the matter
- 1:14:06stands. It's their, it forces you to sit
- 1:14:08with it for a really long fucking amount of the runtime.
- 1:14:12I think it was just dropped there at the end.
- 1:14:14Like it'd be one of those things that like you think back on it
- 1:14:16later? You're like I wonder how that
- 1:14:17went down. But because they left so much of
- 1:14:20it in there. Yeah, it forces you to sit with
- 1:14:23it for too long and it just, it drives me crazy.
- 1:14:26I can see that, I can see that and it ruins the movie for me.
- 1:14:29Where is I think if we just kept it simple, like, every movie
- 1:14:32doesn't have to be like this big, whoa, mind-blowing moment
- 1:14:38because, you know what movie makes just as much sense, but
- 1:14:41does a Twist like this better? But fucking malignant, we're
- 1:14:46like, she was the killer of the whole time.
- 1:14:48In a way that is completely implausible but somehow still
- 1:14:51stands up to scrutiny better than this mess.
- 1:14:54Yeah, I guess, but at least in that when you don't have to
- 1:14:57question how she did it because you're just straight up seeing
- 1:14:59it. It's just.
- 1:15:00Yeah, well it's also like it's supernatural.
- 1:15:02So that like and we get some kind of an explanation away
- 1:15:05other than like, I'm trauma. Yeah, I guess.
- 1:15:07Yeah. So like it just eat it bothers
- 1:15:11me because, you know, there are some times where I'm, like, I
- 1:15:13can see what this movie can be and I will give it credit for
- 1:15:16being most of the The way they are.
- 1:15:18But this one pisses me off because I know what this team
- 1:15:21can do there, and it feels like they threw in a Twist because
- 1:15:24that's what felt like they needed to do and it just I don't
- 1:15:28like it. Okay, I respect, what could be a
- 1:15:31really good movie and drags it down for me, the for me as a
- 1:15:34person. Do you change your rating any?
- 1:15:37All right out of respect to you. I'm going to leave it at a for
- 1:15:39instead of lowering our two three.
- 1:15:41Oh damn. I thought you would maybe bump
- 1:15:43it. No bullshit.
- 1:15:45Okay, I'm keeping mine at 9:00. Okay, that's the love.
- 1:15:48Movie man, this is so fucking good.
- 1:15:49I don't let that twist ruin it for me because the rest of the
- 1:15:53movie is so fun to watch, it's so fucking good and I understand
- 1:15:57that and there have been plenty of movie pointed out dumb shit
- 1:16:00for me and I'm like, I can look past it.
- 1:16:02Yeah, I get it. I just it's why I totally
- 1:16:05respect that you have fun with it.
- 1:16:06But it just, it's, I cannot get past it.
- 1:16:10It's like the fucking windows and Mandy, like I said, they're
- 1:16:15just, it's one of the I can't, I was just moving.
- 1:16:18Oh, yeah, Windows. God damn it.
- 1:16:20Okay, okay. Talia hated this movie from the
- 1:16:25get-go from the get-go. She started growling
- 1:16:27immediately. She Fouled, when they were
- 1:16:30talking to Hendricks, she growled when Hendrix was barking
- 1:16:33and then round win. High-tension title, card came up
- 1:16:36on the screen, she was immediately.
- 1:16:38She was like, fuck this movie and then like she eventually
- 1:16:42tired herself out and slept the rest of it.
- 1:16:44So, Talia, I think Talia is going to give this a 3.
- 1:16:48She actually did continue to bark at me.
- 1:16:50Yeah, I think because I've liked my love of this movie yet, she's
- 1:16:54like you did this. It was about halfway through the
- 1:16:57movie around the part of the twists.
- 1:17:00Zoe was either on the couch or on the chair the whole time.
- 1:17:03She was so she did watch it. Yeah.
- 1:17:06All right. Who's your weights here?
- 1:17:10I really to the kids because I like to play as a cowboy
- 1:17:13whenever I was a good to that shit was fun.
- 1:17:15I really hate to the mom because it's like, why.
- 1:17:18Then like ya know why they were, they were perfectly Pleasant to
- 1:17:22her and she just decided she was going to kill them her, why me?
- 1:17:29That's what you have to relate to.
- 1:17:29Not the whole thing is, why everybody else.
- 1:17:31Why me I get everybody else? That's fine.
- 1:17:35But they also get the I'd spare me.
- 1:17:39All right, dream sequel. So like what if they did do
- 1:17:43that? That's what I want.
- 1:17:44I want to see that version of it.
- 1:17:45Yeah. Okay.
- 1:17:46Shereé, I I do too because like yeah, they could be funny.
- 1:17:50It could be creepy. I don't know the way them
- 1:17:52envisioning it though. It's kind of funny.
- 1:17:54I want it can't be. Yeah, they want to a full other
- 1:17:57end of the spectrum, complete Camp, dude.
- 1:18:00What if they like ended with that guy?
- 1:18:02Actually being real? The you know.
- 1:18:05Yeah, like he's been one, that's the twist.
- 1:18:08That movie then wanting to do the murders the whole time but
- 1:18:10Murray he's getting to them before him.
- 1:18:12Yeah that's the twist. That guy's actually a killer
- 1:18:16that's going on around there. Oh shit.
- 1:18:18Okay cool. Alright internet reviews I got a
- 1:18:23new tagline. He's heckling We never saw that
- 1:18:30coming. She's a buzzkill.
- 1:18:40So Roger Ebert wrote a scathing scathing review man, himself.
- 1:18:46Fuck, I just okay, hold on undo. No I said I'm do know.
- 1:18:51Did you lose it? I did.
- 1:18:54Hold on, he gave it one star. Yeah, he hates this fucking
- 1:19:07genre. High gets low marks for
- 1:19:09possibility. And then the first thing before,
- 1:19:17he's even written, anything is a still shot from the movie.
- 1:19:22A part of the blade approaching a sleeping Alex, and it says, an
- 1:19:25image such as this does not bode well for the sleeper.
- 1:19:29Okay, I'm not going to read the whole thing because he does
- 1:19:32recap the movie, but I want to read the opening paragraph in
- 1:19:35the closing paragraph. Okay?
- 1:19:37The philosopher Thomas Hobbes tells us life can be poor, nasty
- 1:19:40brutish and short, so is this? Movie Alexander ashes high
- 1:19:44tension is a slasher film, about a mad man prowling.
- 1:19:47A rule area of France, chopping slashing and crunching his way
- 1:19:50through, let's see a body count of five or six people including
- 1:19:53a small child that the film does not neglect to show crumpled up
- 1:19:56and dead in a cornfield. That's what it's about anyway
- 1:19:59until we discovered actually consists of something else.
- 1:20:01Altogether something I think is not possible given our current
- 1:20:04understanding of the laws of physics, done that.
- 1:20:10The rest of the movie you'll have to see for yourself.
- 1:20:12Self or not, which would be my recommendation.
- 1:20:15I'm tempted, I am tempted at this point to issue a spoiler
- 1:20:19warning and engage in discussion of several.
- 1:20:21Crucial events in the movie, that would seem physically
- 1:20:23logically and dramatically impossible.
- 1:20:25But clever viewers will be able to see for themselves that this
- 1:20:28movie's plot has a hole that is not only large enough to drive a
- 1:20:31truck through. But in fact does have a truck
- 1:20:33driven right through it note, the film's British title is
- 1:20:37switchblade romance, which if you've seen the film will seem
- 1:20:40curiouser and curiouser and curiouser.
- 1:20:43Well, you know, if I read that review, I think hearing stuff
- 1:20:47like that. Sounds awesome to me, like, none
- 1:20:50of this shit's possible. It's got so many plot holes.
- 1:20:53It's so fucking bizarre. I'm like, that's a horror movie.
- 1:20:56That's a slasher movie. Oh fuck.
- 1:20:58Yeah. I'm gonna watch out.
- 1:20:59Yeah, an especially coming from Roger, Ebert.
- 1:21:01I'm like, well, you have bad taste when it comes to horror
- 1:21:03movies. So I'm kind of resentful of the
- 1:21:04fact that I have to agree with them here.
- 1:21:06Yeah, well, you know, sometimes you're right, sometimes you're
- 1:21:10not, I guess this one is right for you.
- 1:21:12Broken clocks. Right, twice a day.
- 1:21:14So yeah. I mean I get it it does have
- 1:21:17potholes and there's a lot of like things that are hard to
- 1:21:20believe, I don't know. Like I know he's a Critic and
- 1:21:24he's got to do his job and breaking it down.
- 1:21:25But there are just times where I think it's perfectly acceptable,
- 1:21:29to just accept it and just go along for the fucking ride.
- 1:21:32I got some Powers basil. Exposition, I think it's best to
- 1:21:35just not think about it and enjoy the ride.
- 1:21:38He said it best, he did he did and that is actually how we
- 1:21:42palet, cleansed after the double feature of this and doom
- 1:21:46assignment, yes, night would be washed Goldmember because we are
- 1:21:50people of class. Yes, we are.
- 1:21:53Here we are. Okay, I've got some listener
- 1:21:56reviews. We got people chiming in for
- 1:21:59this one. Hopefully it's in support.
- 1:22:00They looked mostly positive from.
- 1:22:02I saw two glands. Yeah, I haven't read them yet.
- 1:22:04Hmm. Okay, let's start off with our
- 1:22:07guests from last week's. Said Robert its own.
- 1:22:09Okay, he says so fucking good. Thank you.
- 1:22:15He was hyped about it when we announced last week.
- 1:22:17Yeah, happy. And he was talking about how
- 1:22:19difficult it was to get a copy of it back in the day.
- 1:22:23So he's an OG supporter of the movie, I appreciate it.
- 1:22:28Next up, these are all on Instagram by the way.
- 1:22:30Okay, just these two. The horror fried podcast a
- 1:22:37fucking ride. Ride honestly, it's Madness.
- 1:22:41I mean that's pretty accurate. Yes, fucking Madness and is, all
- 1:22:44right. Okay, over on Twitter.
- 1:22:52We start off with Kevy Kev. I loved it and immediately grabs
- 1:22:56your attention and choke holds it up until that very end of act
- 1:23:00three. Oh well, nothing's perfect,
- 1:23:02still great, great movie. See that right.
- 1:23:04There is cool like, yeah, it's awesome.
- 1:23:06It was very cool up until that twist, which is kind of lame.
- 1:23:08But yeah, that's kind of how I feel about it.
- 1:23:10I like it without the twist. Well, he said, great, great
- 1:23:13movie. I don't think he would say that.
- 1:23:15He said right up until the third act.
- 1:23:17Oh well, nothing's perfect, still a great great movies.
- 1:23:20How aliens. Yeah.
- 1:23:20Okay, fine. Tyler says this movie is like
- 1:23:26violent is fucked, and I definitely have questions about
- 1:23:30certain scenes with the reveal of the twists, but it's still a
- 1:23:33pretty fun. Watch, exactly.
- 1:23:36That's how you're supposed to go within, right there.
- 1:23:38All right. Now, we got Chad, who was a big
- 1:23:41supporter of Doom Asylum? He says, Saw this in theaters
- 1:23:46when it came out and I was Ford incredible.
- 1:23:48Exercise of what tension? Ha, ha, ha.
- 1:23:52I keep I've always said a ha I sha excels at that.
- 1:23:55I've heard him introduce himself in link commentary before and he
- 1:24:00says it a shot, very French like it's not a hard J or definite
- 1:24:06age. It's like somewhere in the
- 1:24:07morning. Shh, okay.
- 1:24:10Well, okay, are dumb, Southern mouths, can't pronounce it
- 1:24:14correctly. Incredible exercise of tension,
- 1:24:17Elijah excels at that and you feel the violence some scenes
- 1:24:21will make me wince spite. The trash ending, the rest of
- 1:24:24the flick, more than makes up, which they had stuck with the
- 1:24:27original ending. I do agree with that.
- 1:24:31I think that the original ending would have been really strong
- 1:24:33with this right here. But yeah, exactly.
- 1:24:35Like there's some shit that happens there.
- 1:24:38That's not exactly the best thing.
- 1:24:39But the overall experience is poking fun.
- 1:24:43And I absolutely Solutely agree with you.
- 1:24:46And that's it. That's all reviews.
- 1:24:48So we got people out there that like it.
- 1:24:50Yes. And I don't, I don't blame the
- 1:24:52people that liked it, but like the people that like it, such as
- 1:24:55yourself, are very Ardent about why you like it.
- 1:24:59Yeah, it just hits. All the places that I like, in a
- 1:25:02horror movie and a slasher, especially creepy.
- 1:25:05Villain, good kills. Good chases, very tense moments.
- 1:25:09My thing is, if you're going to have this many leaps in logic,
- 1:25:12you need to not play the Like it needs to tonally needs to be
- 1:25:17different like not take itself seriously?
- 1:25:19Yes. Yeah I can that's the thing.
- 1:25:21Is that it's a very serious film it is.
- 1:25:24Yeah. So hey I can understand that.
- 1:25:27Yes. Okay, so that's it for this
- 1:25:30weeks episode next week. We have another one that had
- 1:25:33said it's going to be beaten for me this month.
- 1:25:36It's yeah, I'm honest. And I'm so sad.
- 1:25:42I think maybe this wet, you'll like it.
- 1:25:44We're talking this is another instance of an of a creative
- 1:25:48person that I respect. And enjoy most of their works
- 1:25:52for. Just this particular one doesn't
- 1:25:55hit for me. I think.
- 1:25:56Give it another shot. You might you might like it more
- 1:25:58this summer on. Yes, I'm going to go into in it.
- 1:26:00I'm gonna go into it with an open mind and an open heart.
- 1:26:03Okay, good. And it's Hellraiser.
- 1:26:05Yes, it's how we Regional this is our patreon voted episode.
- 1:26:09Yes. So where can people watch that
- 1:26:11right now? Do you know if it's still on
- 1:26:13shutter? I believe it is.
- 1:26:14Yeah. Let me double check for you
- 1:26:16though. I know it was at one point.
- 1:26:17It was in the Joe Bob. Original Marathon.
- 1:26:20Yeah. There is a job on Marathon.
- 1:26:22Yeah. So like the the bring back Joe
- 1:26:23Bob last drive and like final last marathon.
- 1:26:26Just kidding. Haha.
- 1:26:28Yeah, and it is on shutter, okay but it is also available for
- 1:26:32free on to be Pluto TV if you have a subscription to prime or
- 1:26:37am C+ or a YouTube prime time or YouTube TV premium subscription,
- 1:26:42you can also rent it from Redbox Google player.
- 1:26:44If you do. So there's a lot of ways to
- 1:26:46watch. It is a classic.
- 1:26:48I do think it should be watched even if I don't necessarily like
- 1:26:51love it myself, but maybe I will.
- 1:26:54Maybe I will love it after watching it again.
- 1:26:56Well, tune in next week to find out everybody.
- 1:26:59Yes, in the meantime, I'm going to plug our patreon once again
- 1:27:04because we've got wonderful supporters, such as Eric and
- 1:27:07baby of chicken. Not scared.
- 1:27:09Joe. I could try.
- 1:27:10This is fun name. Amber and Michael.
- 1:27:12Yes. And as a reminder for the month
- 1:27:14of June and Ignition of pride month and the ongoing support
- 1:27:17needed for lgbtq Q individuals. We are donating all of our
- 1:27:21proceeds for my patreon and we are going to match those to the
- 1:27:24Trevor Project. And Robert atone has offered
- 1:27:27that anybody who wants to individually donate to the
- 1:27:29Trevor Project. Whoever donates the most by the
- 1:27:32end of the month. If we, if he's if you send proof
- 1:27:35to us or to him, he will send you a copy of each of his books
- 1:27:40personally signed by hand. Yeah.
- 1:27:41Super generous offer that? He, yes.
- 1:27:43And now sonar Episode 4. Perfect blue is so and yeah.
- 1:27:47And the Trevor Project is an organization, that means a lot
- 1:27:50to us. And so we really like supporting
- 1:27:53it. And hopefully, if you've never
- 1:27:55heard of them before check them out.
- 1:27:57Yeah. Or you can just donate and not
- 1:28:00tell anybody about it. If you don't feel like doing it
- 1:28:02for prize, like this, want to do it to just do it.
- 1:28:04That's fine. It's a fucking good.
- 1:28:05Yeah, it's like, it's like suicide prevention.
- 1:28:07Yeah, I mean, that's just a good cause in general, but this is
- 1:28:10like, specifically for the LGBT and like, we live in Kentucky,
- 1:28:14which Is doing its damnedest to take away all the rights for
- 1:28:19especially right now, a trans individuals.
- 1:28:22And so the Trevor Project is super super important for
- 1:28:27helping deal with you know the backlash that comes along with
- 1:28:32you know your government and your society around you feeling
- 1:28:38against you it's super easy to get into like a bad head space
- 1:28:41with that type of stuff. Yeah you know you got a lot of
- 1:28:43people out there. We love You guys?
- 1:28:45Yeah. Where are you Trevor Project?
- 1:28:48If you need any help, go reach out to them and that's what
- 1:28:51they're there for. It's, for lgbtq young people.
- 1:28:54Okay. And they've got like text chat.
- 1:28:57Call options. Good all the ways, like,
- 1:29:00however, you are most comfortable talking to a person.
- 1:29:02Yeah, okay. Alright.

- 1:29:37Think it's like, I promise we will not call the cops on him.
- 1:29:40If he goes to 5 star rating, 15 minutes, I think is all you have
- 1:29:43to listen to have an episode to be able to A rate so that your
- 1:29:4515 minutes is no more than 15 minutes?
