- Liz: you You know, I have the rhythm of a baked potato. You may have noticed that. Kent: Well... You do have the rhythm of a baked potato. Just... thud. Liz: Ha ha! Kent: Hi, I'm Kent, your American coffee drinker host, and this is Liz: And I am Liz, your English tea drinking host. Kent: That's right. And if you're just joining us for the first time, I'm American, she's British. I drink coffee. She drinks tea. So that is why we do this show is because we're two different people, but we have one thing in common and that's Comic Cons. So thank you for joining us with and our show conversations with coffee and tea. Liz: make coms. Tea. Tea. I'm doing very well on this very warm spring day. Kent: How you doing, Liz? Is it warm? It looks a little warm up there. mean, I'm... Liz: Yes, I know I'm trying to look cool and as a cucumber it's not quite working out. Kent: Yeah, do they have that you guys don't have AC up there? Liz: No, we're still on steam power too. Kent: steam power wow i'm surprised you weren't gonna say like you get a bucket of ice and a little fan and blow it that way that would that would help you know Liz: should have done that, I should have done that. But I but I went shopping and so I got all hot. Kent: There you go. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Well, I'm doing awesome. It is a beautiful day out. It's like, what is it? It's nice out. It's 80 out right now, but no humidity here in Nashville. So I'll take it. Liz: And what about you? How are you this fine day? Yeah, we got humidity here in Missouri. Missouri. Kent: Mazza. awesome awesome so you know we gotta start our I have I brought my favorite cup one of my favorite cups today I'm a little baby Starbucks Grogo the friend made for me and you know what I actually have Bucky's coffee inside I went to Bucky's a week ago and on the way back from Lexington and so I stopped and grabbed some coffee and then of course they had bags of coffee and I Liz: that's cute. Ha! Kent: had to get a bag of coffee. So yeah, Bucky. yeah, they do bags of coffee. So, you know, and I actually gave a friend a bag of Bucky's coffee. No endorsement here, but yeah, they, they live in DC. They don't have Bucky's up there. So gave him a bag of coffee and they're like, is it any good? And I'm like, well, try it out. And then they call me up like two days later. yeah, that's really good. Liz: They do bags? I didn't know they did... coffee bags. Hahaha Kent: like send another bag. I was like, well, just buy my plane ticket and I'll deliver it. Liz: know that I ever... I don't know that I've ever had their coffee. I usually go for their weird sodas. You know they... Kent: you're the one that goes to the fountain wall. Liz: Yeah, well I don't usually go nuts there because they're so sugary but you know they've got interesting flavours but I've never gone for the coffee. I should try that next time I'm passing through. Kent: Yeah. Well the coffee is... so good. Yep. Yep. Anyways, yeah, that's like my pit stop. Like, if I'm driving somewhere and there's a Buc-E's, you go in, use the restroom because they're the best. And then, you know, you go grab the coffee. And then I go over and I'll look at the beach jerky, maybe look and see get a paddle tail. If it's breakfast time, I usually get the brisket taco. Liz: Okay then. Kent: lunchtime maybe a pulled pork pulled pork or a brisket sandwich and then of course you know you got to get the toasted almonds and you know what's that beaver but the the beaver nuggets yeah yeah Liz: That barbecue is so good too. And the bucky bites, the beaver bites, the beaver bites, nuggets. Yes. Kent: Nah, I'm not too much. I mean, I like the cinnamon ones and the cheddar cheese, but you know, it just those are my go tos like boom, boom, boom, and I'm out the door. You know, people wander around for like an hour and they're in our bun, all kinds of stuff. So what do you got there? British tea lady? Yeah, what are you drinking? Liz: yeah. What do I got? Like PG Tips. Tea of champions. Kent: Did I hear that correctly? PG tips not. Liz: Tips. Tips. Kent: Okay, make sure you pronunciate that P because for some of us guys we heard PG. Liz: Yes, it's... No you didn't. No you didn't. No, it's like your everyday boring tea, but... Kent: so you're just drinking boring tea. Liz: Yeah, but to an English person, British person, it's just, there's this, there's York tea, there's a handful that are just normal. Like you go to the store, you buy some tea, no biggie. You don't think about the brand, it's just there. Kind of like Lipton, only this really tastes nice. And on occasion when I'm hosting in a green room, I usually bring my PG tips along. Kent: Okay. Liz: and people love it. Especially, what, what? In fact, last time I brought my teapot as well. Kent: The listeners out there will when they hear it they're gonna laugh too because it's a guy thing. I just hear certain words and we just go that's what she said. Liz: Ciao! Kent: we keep it PG. Huh. Liz: You are just, you are such a guy, honestly. Kent: I am. That's that's what you get. What you see is what you get. You get nothing less. know, so my goodness. Liz: Yeah. So what were you up to last week? Where did you go? Kent: I was in San Antonio, Texas during the playoffs. Yeah. The Spurs were doing the playoffs. They had just finished the rodeo and then Texas Fest or something was going on. It was crazy. It was it was busy, busy, Liz: Was it hot there? so we're you're a con or just traveling? Kent: It wasn't a con, it was a mall event that had celebrities in the mall and they had two of the horror queens, Casey Harnett and Sarah Voight. They're both in the Terrifier. Liz: gotcha. which neither of us will watch because it's too scary. Kent: I, you know what, after, well, sitting with them and talking with them and, then talking to the fans, like they were telling stuff and I'm like, all right, I was in the military. I've seen some stuff that's gruesome, but what art the clown does. my gosh. Like, and the funny thing is, is I know David, David's the nicest, sweetest guy. He's art, the clown, you know, and Liz: He is, yes. Kent: always dresses up into his full costume when he does a photo shoot and honks a horn and stuff scares the jesus out of people i've literally seen people like wait five ten minutes in the photo op area because they were so terrified to stand next to him knowing that that's art the clamp but what was crazy is just the fans were telling me stuff and like with with the sera he shoots her in the face Liz: Okay. Kent: Icky. Yeah. And then Casey, she has the most gruesome. He skins her. Liz: no, this is a family show. No, no, no, no. No, no, we don't need that. No. Kent: and then rub salt in it and I was like no no no no no no thank you no but there's kids coming up to the table and like I loved your part and I was like you're like 10 you're 12 years old watching this terrifying stuff I mean it's number four is coming out so obviously well I mean the again certain genres Liz: well it's huge. Kent: you know have huge fans and like uh Casey and I were talking and I was like look you literally because she screams like uh I guess the the director when he was editing it had to take his headphones off a couple times because don't spit your tea out she he uh she was saying that he had to take his headphones off a couple times because she her the scream was so intense Liz: Hahaha Kent: was hurting his ears and I don't know the scream I don't know but I was like look just like rock and roll scream Queens will live forever so that scream that she does in that movie will live forever Liz: That's funny. Do remember Adrienne Barbeau? She used to do a lot of scream stuff in the 80s, I think, maybe 70s. Well, I read history books, you but same thing. She had this famous scream. Again, movies I didn't watch, because I was such a wimp. Kent: you're dating yourself way back. sure you do. there you go. Yeah. I just horrors not my thing. If horror is your thing, put it in the comments below and let us know which movie is your favorite horror movie because I mean, there's a lot of them out there. The Ring, Poltergeist, Chainsaw or Saw and then you got your Freddy's and Jason's and all that stuff. Yeah. Liz: Well, untold numbers, yeah. Untold numbers of, well, it seems like there's two kinds of horror. There's the slashy kind of blood splatter, jump scare, that kind of thing, which are hugely popular. But then you've got the edge of your seat, what's gonna happen, suspense, something bad's gonna happen, and... Kent: Mm-hmm. Yep, yep. Yep. Liz: Well, yeah, yeah. And I consider the ring one of those, the changeling. I did some years ago. But it was, you know, it had a story and it wasn't just, it wasn't just blood. Yeah, it wasn't that. was, there was definitely a mythology. Kent: Did you watch the ring? Ugh. See? I would never watch it. Okay. some costume guy like yeah yeah yeah I've actually sons yeah I've actually watched saw the first two I didn't know what it was when I first started watching it and then I was like oh okay oh this is like kind of gory horror but I was like those are bad people and they did bad things so they're just giving them a punishment for what they deserve Liz: Yeah. Kent: and while i was sitting there with Casey this kid was telling me about Saw and he's like yeah number 14 and i'm like they've made that many of them holy cow i've only watched the i'm like the first two was like that was enough for me it was that was good that was good now back to our coffee Liz: Yeah, or tea. Kent: That's right. That's right. So where were you Liz this weekend? cool. Liz: I actually I was visiting family for the last week, got back yesterday. This coming weekend I am what? Kent: Thanks. this coming weekend. To a neighborhood near you. Liz: I'm going to, yes, to a town in Missouri called Cape Girardeau and they have an anime con, Cape, Cape anime, and they have the English dub actors from Death Note, which I also haven't seen. It sounds too scary for me, but yes. Well, I don't know if it's technically horror, but. Kent: Ooh, AnimeCon. Is it an anime? It's an anime horror anime kind of thing? Okay. Yeah. Liz: I've seen pictures and the pictures do not look like fluffy bunny anime. It looks pretty edgy. So. Kent: fluffy bunny. Sorry. No fluffy bunnies here. Like, yeah, I just don't do the anime either. Okay, so horror and anime. have not, I wouldn't say I'm not a fan. just, it doesn't gravitate towards me. It doesn't get my attention. Like, the only, and every voice actor that's in an anime picks fun of me, because they're like, that's not anime. And I tell them the only anime I have watched and sat down. I haven't watched the whole thing. I've seen bits and pieces and stuff because it's on TV is the last airbender. Avatar. Liz: Yeah. Yeah, this there is an argument both ways, you know, obviously not Japanese in origin. But they have the Kent: well david philony created it who you know works with george lucas and stuff like that and it was his american they all tell me it's an american version of anime it's not an asian anime so it's not really anime so Liz: You know it's because nobody has spiky hair. Nobody has pink hair. That might be it. But yeah, but I feel like arguments could be made both way. Is it, isn't it anime? But either way, it's terrific show. I love that show. Kent: True, true, true. they're all bald. Well, Aang is bald, so he's got no hair. Yeah. Well, I always tell them, like, look, at least I'm watching it. You know, if that's what if that's my enemy, then that's my enemy. It's better than not watching anime and not knowing anything about it. Like, you know, but I have Bryce Papenbrook over here like you need to watch Attack on Titan. Like he does his favorite laugh. So. Liz: that, I don't know that you'd enjoy that, Ken. It's a little bit on the gory side. Kent: Yeah, well, yeah, again. It just doesn't interest me. I'm more action and sci-fi and, you know, mystery, murder or comedy. I love to laugh. So, you know, those are my go to. Yeah. You know, and speaking of movies, I'm going to go watch the new Michael Jackson that's coming out next week. Yeah. That's supposed to be really good. Liz: I'm wondering, is it like a biopic or is it just dealing with a certain age? Kent: No, it's from him being a little kid all the way up like Jackson five and then, you know, the transformation and all of that. We are the world. Yeah, it's a really good. Jermaine Jackson's son. Liz: interesting. Wow, that does sound good. Kent: think is the one that plays and again don't you know bash me because i didn't get it right i again were spontaneously i'm not doing all the research before doing this podcast so if i get it wrong yeah we didn't yeah i'm not sitting here with google right now Liz: I think I had heard that, yeah. We didn't know we were going to talk about it. Kent: But yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I I grew up with Michael Jackson. I remember watching the Jackson 5 on Bandstand for those people that remember what Bandstand was like Jackson 5. Liz: yeah. I actually saw the Jacksons once in concert, did in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium. yeah, it was the victory tour when they were really going with the bling, loads of like glitter and all of that. And Michael Jackson was there. I think he performed Billie Jean. That was his only solo thing at that point. Kent: You did where? Dodger Stadium? Jeez. Yeah. Okay. So I stand corrected. I did a little search real quick. Jafar Jackson. I was listening you Jackson's Dodger Stadium, blah, blah. Billie Jean. Alright, so Jafar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson plays the adult King pop. So yeah, it's it's his brother's son. Liz: Which means you won't listening. Blah blah blah. Right. that that makes sense. mean clearly it's a very talented family and it makes sense to cast a relative. Kent: Yeah. Yeah, and it'll be interesting to see what the kids say about their dad because Paris and Some of the other kids that Michael had You know, I wonder what they're what they will think of it Liz: Yeah. Kent: Interesting. Liz: Well, Kent, should we get onto the topic of the day? We do have a topic, something close to my heart, and that is, that is, what should you, what should you bring to a Comic-Con when you are attending? Kent: We have a topic? my goodness. What's up? your wallet. Liz: What goes without saying? I can't get it. Okay. Yeah. Kent: a good attitude good tennis shoes cash Liz: Yes, there's, yes, well I have a little collection and this I do, I do. Okay, so for your personal comfort, some kind of water bottle because of the other, yeah, because, because you're probably looking at a six dollar bottle of water that you're going to buy, you know, I don't know how many times a day. yeah. Kent: you have a collection. OK, all right. Bring it on. a water bottle or a coffee cup, you know, so you can get your Jedi feel. at most places, I mean, you're going to either go to the roach coaches or what we call them coaches, but basically the food trucks or there's well, no, as a kid, that's what we called them roach coaches, you know, but now they're food trucks. yeah, that's Hey, if you know anything about a roach coach, put it in the comments or in this social media where it is because we need to teach Liz like Liz: man. I never heard that. Yeah. Kent: eighties, you know, roach coaches, you know, those were the good food. Liz: But now, mean, but the food is so bougie now. It's very, it's very popular and it's very cool. But because, yes, or you can just bring little snacks to get you through the day. yeah, kind bar, Nutrigain, my snack of choice is peanut &M's. Kent: It's bougie now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. But yeah, go into a con, you'll spend a lot of money because they got food courts and stuff like that. And they're gonna price gouge you. What is that, a kind bar? Alright, so bring some protein bars or healthy bars to keep your energy going. Liz: Yeah, or &Ms. That's what I usually do. Kent: Okay, now here we go again discussion regular &Ms or peanut &Ms. All right, so you got to have the peanut &Ms. Why the peanut? Liz: Peanut, peanut. protein, vegetable stuff. There you go. Kent: There is no vegetable in a peanut. It's a lagoon. It's a lagoon. Liz: In Kent: Cacao chocolate. Yeah. This is the nut. The only reason I like the peanut eminem is because I'll kind of like gnaw at the peanut and then let the chocolate fall away in my mouth. Like put the peanut in there and then I'll chop half of it to where I get to the peanut and then I'll let the chocolate fall away and then I eat the peanut. Liz: No. Handful. What? That's the way to go. Kent: I've literally seen you eat a whole bag of peanut &M's. Like, gorge on those things. Liz: Yeah. Yeah. Party size means Lizzie sized. But yeah, I always have a bag. Sometimes if I'm with a celebrity, sometimes they will partake. Mostly not because a lot of these guys are very health conscious. I'm not particularly health conscious. yeah. Kent: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. very health conscious. No sugars, no... However, I did get some... What are those, French cookies? macaroons i got some macaroons this weekend one somebody brought casey sealed box of macaroons they were good and some beignets or croissants too we had chocolate croissants and we had yeah hazelnut croissants we have Liz: Nice. well good I'm glad she's got an eclectic palette and is not is not above sugar and carbs. Anyway so so related to Kent: Yes, she does. it's all good. She's super skinny, I mean. So water, snacks, peanuts, protein bars, little slim gems and stuff like that. Yeah. Liz: Yes and yep and you'll probably end up buying some junk anyway but the lines are always long the prices are high generally venues don't let you bring your own food so you can't bring in a pizza box that's just that's just not going to happen but if you have a few snacks on hand that will get you through the day and then you just have a slap up dinner later Kent: Yeah. Well. for those financial conscious people. I know some families that when they drive there and they park, they will bring a cooler. And then when everybody's hungry, they'll just leave the comic con go back to the car and tailgate and have their sandwiches and stuff like that. Take a break from the con. It's okay to take a break from the con and relax, get some fresh air because you're in a building all day. And then they'll eat their sandwiches, have their Gatorade or water and stuff like that. And then they all come back in and that's just a, you know, easier way to save some money versus a, you know, $15 hamburger with slice of cheese on it. Liz: Yeah. Yes or something like a hot dog that has a bunch of onions in it, in which case you might want breath mints or lozenges, something like this. Also because it depends how much gum, something like that. Let's see. Okay this is going to be very random in terms of my, the way I have everything set up. Kent: or breath mends. Boston just a little stick of gum. No sponsorship here. Not yet. And this is all stuff that you carry in a bag to a comic con? All right. I will tell people what portable charger. Yes. Always want that because there's never enough plugs. Liz: portable charger. Yep, neck fan. Kent: neck fan for those that get super hot all the time and need to be cooled down. Liz: Now it's funny, looks, they look like headphones and, but they're battery powered. You can get them on Amazon for, yeah, they're like 20, 25 bucks or something, not too much. But. Kent: Yeah. Yeah, there's a chargeable ones too. Yeah, Amazon has them. I see a lot of Yep, they even got one that clips to your belt that will blow up your shirt to keep you nice and cool. Liz: Mm-hmm. And you got ones that have angles at the bottom where you can adjust where it's blowing. I find, I mean, I'm always hot, as you know, but I've found even in the middle of winter, I will get hot at a con. There's so many people. You just get hot, which is why I also bring little deodorants, just travel size, just... Kent: Mm-hmm. Yep. let's just And I will tell you, you most people needs to bring a bottle of Axe body spray with them at the Comic Cons, because, you know, they're hot and it's tons of people around them and stuff like that. And I know everybody sweats. Don't get me. I mean, but yeah, some people need some Axe body spray. Liz: as a refresher. Oh, I wonder if you could, you know, be a stealth axer. Speaking of horror movies, it's like this guy, this guy. Okay, so then we have. Kent: I got you tag you're it. Yeah. Yeah. Liz: usually put mine in a tiny wallet and stick it in the bottom of my backpack so that it's just away and if somebody decides to rifle through there somehow they're unlikely to find it. Okay often with your badge your entry badge you'll get one of those just little rope lanyards lanyards so Kent: huh. Okay. Lanyards? Yeah. Liz: You know, you're going to pick these up. As you saw last time, I have just a few. Just a few. So that's always nice to have your own. I've put pins that I've accumulated into mine because it starts getting heavy. Yeah, little pins like that. In fact, I just... Kent: Just a few. I think I have a... I have a... Yeah. Hey man, little pins like this. Yeah, well, like this. Liz: Yeah. Kent: Let's see, got Thing one from San Diego Comic Con. Liz: Oh, this. Yeah, I've got a whole bunch. oh, I know you and your pins. Kent: I'm out a Comic Con one. I know. Oh, I got a box here which just ends like. Liz: and this was... Oh, I can't even tell what that is. Anyway, so it's nice having your own lanyard because, you know, often they just hand out the generic ones. It's just fun having one. Okay, a little bit of medicinal stuff. Medicinal. No. Aching feet. Kent: medicinal are you talking about THC medicinal puff that's different medicinal aching feet swollen joints because you've been on your feet for eight hours Liz: aching shoulders. blisters so I have a few band-aids a few band-aids I bring and sanitizer because you're handling money you're shaking hands a lot of people get con-crud after a con I've had COVID twice from different cons and so that is an essential Kent: You bring everything, don't you? In sanitizer, yep, yep. don't go near you. Liz: lip balm because Kent: Yep, gotta keep those puckers glossed up. Liz: Okay, now this is a this is an interesting one. Glasses cleaner. You know what that's for? Your phone lens. Kent: there you go. I used my t-shirt. Liz: because you, well, and I often do as well, also for my glasses. But when I have found, when I'm taking selfies on behalf of a celebrity, if there's a lot of glare from the light, the ceiling lights, it's the lens, it's the lens is dirty. And rather than wiping other people's phones on my t-shirt, just have just a little microfiber cloth. Kent: Yeah. the always always the lens Liz: just a know, scrub but if you do it yourself then you'll make sure that you don't have that issue. Scotch tape, just cause. Now this, this is my absolute go-to. for autographs. I bought a cheesy cardboard, one of these things from the dollar store for a buck 25 or whatever. It gets trashed. My autographs do not. So they... Kent: Okay. There you go. Or some people like me or you, we bring those protectors on the table. it's there are $5, which is nothing for a $60 autograph to stay protected because it I've literally watched fans walk away from the table and bump into somebody and it gets bent and wrinkled or falls on the floor and gets scuffed up. Liz: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Just holding it. Yeah. Kent: So I always tell people, for $5, why don't you protect that $60 investment or that $100 autograph for $5? It's worth it. Liz: But I figure I- Yeah. Well, and photo ops and all of those. So it just, yeah, it just, cost a buck or, you know, with inflation, maybe a buck 50, but I've gone through, yeah, I've gone through like two of those folders. Just, they got destroyed, but that's great. Cause the autographs were absolutely just fine. Thank you very much. Okay, next. Kent: Yep. But yeah, that binder folder is a great idea. Yep. well dollar trees a dollar twenty five now There you go. Liz: on my list. We are still digging. Now this might be kind of a bit too much for some people but if you're if you're in line for somebody like Tom Hiddleston, Hayden Christensen, collapsible stool now Kent: Are we still digging? Probably is. you know, those those are good for the people. got to stand in a line longer than an hour. Those are great. They collapse up to about an inch. You can put them in your backpack. Yeah, and they're pretty light, too, because it's a plastic, but it'll hold up to what, 250 pounds. Yeah, it's crazy. But instead of just standing there in the line. Liz: Yeah. Yeah. Or they have a shoulder sling. Yeah, this is. something like, yeah, mine is... I think I got mine... Yeah. And I... you see people all the time. I've... this is probably three or four years old and I know they have got lighter since I bought this. This was quite heavy. Kent: You can sit down and relax. Yeah, well and the other thing I why I recommend those is because when you go to a comic con How many chairs or couches are? Available when you're just trying to sit down and you want to relax in the hallways none never Liz: And they're like, get up, can't sit there, go away. Kent: Yeah, yeah. So having your chair, a portable chair is great because not only use it for the lines, but you know, you and your friends are in the hallway instead of sitting on the ground where everybody's stomped and brought stuff on their shoes through. You can be sitting on those portable chairs and having a good conversation and Liz: gum. And you can even, you know, if you've got a group, just kind of share it around and it just, just sitting for five minutes. Yeah. Okay. Another thing, I know this is kind of weird extra socks because cool dry socks feel great after a while. I know that would be a Liz thing. Kent: Mm-hmm. There you go. Share swap. That would be a Liz thing. That would be a Liz thing. I've never had to worry about that. My feet don't sweat that much. Liz: Okay, and don't forget weird stuff you want to get autographed. So, well not weird stuff, but stuff. Okay, so I've got this. This has been, it's the Animaniacs. It's been autographed by Tom Ruga. This is actually an original sketch by him. Kent: Weird stuff. Yeah, I see it. Okay. Liz: No, it's on this side. Where am I? I've disappeared. And also Jess Harnell has signed his character. So at some point I'm going to get Rob Paulson and Tress McNeil to sign them. And I have a big protector for it. think this is 11 by 17, absolutely essential. I don't know when I'm going to see them. Kent: You're there. I see you. Okay. You have a big protector for that. Yeah. Liz: some cons somewhere and I will I will grab it and bring it of course it's going to be awkward because it is so large it's not going to go in my backpack but for sure I will be protecting it another thing Kent: Yeah, well, that's that's part of going to a comic con is being prepared for the show. You know, and a lot of people come to the comic cons, they're not prepared, you know, and then they're like, my gosh, I didn't know you were here. Like everybody, the con puts a website together. They tell you all the actors that are going to be there. So don't act surprised. my gosh, I didn't know it's on the website. Liz: Mm-hmm. And then, Yeah. Okay, also, little fun... Yeah. No, no, no. Okay, so if you're going to bring a pop, lots of people bring pops, lots of people have those little boxes for them, the hard plastic, but you can also get these little things on Amazon. Just a protector. I bought a whole, whole packet of them for... Kent: What's the last thing? We got more? Oh my gosh, we're going to need another half hour just for all of Liz's stuff. huh. yeah. The plastic protector. Yeah. Liz: peanuts and you know if you think you might be buying a pop or you have a pop to bring just save the corners just save the corners with this cheesy little protector you can buy your own plastic protectors for 8 by 10 photos as well again on Amazon peanuts but worth it if you are going to be spending 80, 100, 120 on an autograph so Kent: Yep. There you go. Liz: Okay, so that's Lizzie's comeback and... Kent: Man, that was a lot of stuff. And if you are watching this or listening, let us know was that helpful? Because, you know, if it wasn't, you know, or actually let us know if it was helpful. And then what things would you put in your bag? What other things should Liz put in her bag for a comic con? What are things that you put in your bag that could be useful or helpful for? you the new person that's never been to a comic con or somebody that's a season pro like Liz. And then you're like, I have a secret tip for you, Liz. This is what you need in your bag because it saved me XYZ or so many hours and things like that. So put that in the comments. I want to see what you guys suggest. Liz: But I would say my number one thing that has helped me over the years. Thank you. No, the number one thing would be the cheesy folder for my autographs. I've put one in there, I've put 10 in there, and they're all safe. So that's my secret of autograph collecting. Kent: your glasses. Okay. secrets. You're Liz's deep dark secrets. Liz: Now, of course, you might not be terribly interested in autographs. If you want to shop for stuff, some of those things will also count for that. Having a bag, having protectors for... Kent: Yeah, yeah, have a bag because a lot of times the vendors don't bring plastic bags to put stuff in. So having a backpack or a tote or something you can put your stuff in. Liz: Mm-hmm. And like I said, you've got, you know, if you know that you're going to be buying POPs, maybe invest in a couple of the POP protectors beforehand. Again, preparation. Kent: Yep. Preparation and you know, we talked about this before the show is just. being prepared for the show, like checking the schedule for the panels, you know, a lot of people are like, when, when's your panel? Again, the con will provide that information on their app, on their website. They literally will tell you when the celebrity is on a panel or in which room and things like that. So, you know, come prepared, like just don't wing it. Liz: And they will often email you or text you. like, by the way, so-and-so's panel is right now in the grand ballroom. And it's like, great. I remembered I wanted to go to that. But I know some people, they'll do a spreadsheet of everything they want. Kent: Yep. Yep. Yep, because they're using their time effectively and efficiently they, you know, I have friends they come, they don't care about the autographs. They're more about the panels and the shopping. So they've got a list of the panels they want to see that highlight it. And they know where the rooms are. They get there a little, you always get there early because if you want to sit in the back, that's where you're to be. If you get there early, you can be in the front row and see the celebrities or whoever's the panel, some of the writers or artists and stuff like that. you know, my suggestion, I know this is from Liz too, is preparation is key. You you want to be prepared for the show. So, you know, even the night before going to the show, if it's a Saturday, Sunday Comic Con, go on the website on Friday and look up who you want to see if you want to see a celebrity. If not, they'll even tell you who the artists are, because even I have brought a sketch pad. Liz: Yes, and Kent: and gone up to the artist and and commission art piece, you know, because a lot of the artists will do commissions, you know, and so if you bring a sketch pad, they'll say, you know, hey, I'll do the sketch, come back in the afternoon, and I'll have it done for you. They're not going to do it right there on the spot. Because they want to take their time. They want to give you a good quality piece of artwork. But yeah, you can go up to the artist and say, Hey, do you do? Do you do sketches? And they'll be like, Yeah, it's $30. Just like an autograph. You got to Liz: Yeah. Kent: pay for it and you'll get you know I've got I've got sketches from Jim Lee, Stan Lee, whole bunch of different artists in a sketchbook. Just ask. Liz: Really? Is that all? Yeah, it's fun when you can, fun if you can get those signed and then signed by the voice actor as well, which is what I'm trying to do with my Animaniacs. Kent: I know. Yeah, I need to I need to do that again. I need to start bringing my sketchbook. there's some great artists Liz: So and and one more thing just about being prepared for the schedule You know check your person is gonna be there all two days or three days sometimes they're only there one day and so keep a note of that and in general if they're not at a panel or photo ops, which is where They aren't the only time they would be away from their table. You can pretty much say Kent: Yeah. Liz: like negative space, this person is not in photo ops, they are not at a panel, therefore most likely they will be at their table, except for lunch breaks, you know, stuff like that. Kent: Mm-hmm. Yeah, and if it's noon time and they had a photo shoot, kind of know that right after the photo shoot, they're gonna the green room right there, they usually go and grab a little bite to eat and then come back to the table. So Liz: Yeah, so when people say the autograph times aren't posted, well, you kind of do the math when they have other commitments. The space in between is when they're at table. Kent: or preparation does not help especially at larger comic cons you want to be prepared and ready to go small comic con you can wing it like cape gerardo you can wing it you know but something big like san diego or dragon con or new york no you better be you better study that a week in advance Liz: Yeah. yeah. Yeah, and also the layout because some of these cons are so huge in terms of square footage. You know, it might be half a mile from one end to the other. I mean, just crazy. Kent: It is. awesome awesome well thank you Liz for sharing your little bag of goodies and what people need you think can use wisely at a comic-con i mean i totally forgot about the socks Liz: You're welcome. And mostly they're small things. Yeah, I just, you know, feet. Feet get hot. Kent: Yes, they do. mean, I literally yeah, I mean it again, a lot of these comic cons are in warm climate areas and with humidity. So people are going to sweat. So next body spray, you know, if you sweat a lot, maybe bring an extra t shirt and change out your t shirt, you know, and put the other one in the car. You know what I mean? Like, again, be mindful. Yeah, there you go. Liz: in the trash. That's what I would probably do with my socks. Kent: Just be mindful of other people, you know? Liz: Gone. Yeah. Kent: Well, awesome. All right. Anything else? Did we get the goodie bag? We got it all laid out. Liz: I think so. If you're... except if you're a crew member it will it will vary. You will have certain things that you'll need, other things you won't need. So yeah. Kent: Awesome. yeah and the con will tell them what they need yeah awesome awesome will this is we're wrapping this up i'm wrapping this up you know i gotta go get some more coffee you know buckies is running low and i need to get some buckies more coffee and stuff like that but Liz: All right. You are! Hahaha Kent: yeah well i'm super excited if you guys see us at a comic con come up and say hi say hi liz i hear you got a fake accent or just come up to me and say hey kent you know you're like superman that's how i introduce myself kent like superman Liz: Ha No. No. Kent: no no no no but no we'd love to meet you guys whether you've been listening to us or this is your first time you come to a show you see us or you recognize our voices come say hi we'd love to hear from you plus you know if we're with the talent you know that's kind of funny that you're coming to see us and not them so Liz: Well, it also depends on the length of line. I'm not sure. I'm not sure somebody with a long line would like somebody coming up. I've been waiting in line for two hours to see you Kent. Kent: True. True. no don't do that no go wait go waste your time somewhere else on a panel or something like that but no if you see us come say hi we'd love to meet you it's always nice to meet different people from different states and areas and stuff like that so yeah all right well liz anything else you want to say Liz: I don't think so. Our tip of the day was to be prepared, do some research, make a list of people. Actually, my list is essential autographs and then autographs if I have the time and money left over and hellos to people I know are there. Kent: like not Yep. Yep. Time and money left over. There you go. Make sure you bring cash. Cause credit cards charge a fee and sometimes the ATMs charge even more and then they run out of money. So again, preparation, know how many people you want to see, make sure to find out what their pricing is, have that cash on hand, hide it in the bottom of your backpack, put it in your fanny pack, hide it in your socks. Liz: Not in your bra, please. Kent: Not in your bra. We don't want wet money. from boob sweat. well, awesome, everybody on that happy. What's that? The tea drinking again. Liz: Ew. On that happy note... PGT. T. T. Kent: PG tips? Tea. Just tea. Awesome. All right. Well, I'm Kent and this is Liz and we are conversations with coffee. Liz: Y'all miss?
