Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: National's on a bit of a trade blitz after getting
- 0:02Speaker 1: the Indie FTA across the line. They're wanting to cut
- 0:04Speaker 1: deals with seven new countries, including Brazil, Nigeria, Argentina and more.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Nathan Guys Meat Industry Association, Independent Chare and Special Agricultural
- 0:13Speaker 1: Envoy joins.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Us this morning. Nathan, good morning, Good morning.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Right, So after India, who's top of your list? Who
- 0:18Speaker 1: do we want one with?
- 0:21Speaker 2: I think out of the list that were announced yesterday,
- 0:23Speaker 2: probably Bangladesh is pretty much ready to go. They are
- 0:28Speaker 2: very engage with US. It's a very big dairy market
- 0:32Speaker 2: about three hundred and fifty million at the moment for
- 0:34Speaker 2: Fonti and others, so I think that might be first
- 0:38Speaker 2: cab off the rank. It wouldn't surprise me if North
- 0:40Speaker 2: America and North African countries like Nigeria are also quite
- 0:46Speaker 2: warmed up as well. Switzerland's an interesting one, very high
- 0:51Speaker 2: value market, but small at the moment, so that they
- 0:56Speaker 2: decided with others not to join the EU so they
- 0:59Speaker 2: stand alone. Also with Iceland and lets Line in Norway,
- 1:04Speaker 2: they've set up a little EU Free Trade Association, so
- 1:08Speaker 2: they're keen to go in Switzerland's a part of that,
- 1:11Speaker 2: so I think that'll be interesting. And then if we
- 1:15Speaker 2: look across to South America, some massive economies over there, Brazil,
- 1:20Speaker 2: Argentina and Uruguay big beef producers, quite strong and dairy,
- 1:26Speaker 2: so they are likely to be interested in services in agritech.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Good thing about this is that it's largely bipartisan free trade,
- 1:34Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yes, well, we saw that little delay with the Labor
- 1:41Speaker 2: Party on the India FDA. Fortunately over time they decided
- 1:46Speaker 2: it was significant for the New Zealand economy and for
- 1:51Speaker 2: New Zealanders as a whole. We need to remind ourselves
- 1:54Speaker 2: Ryan that these free trade agreements actually benefit every household
- 1:58Speaker 2: in New Zealand are significant. And I think what this
- 2:02Speaker 2: plan has done was announced yesterday to the National Party.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It's got a clear plan of action now all targeted
- 2:10Speaker 2: approach twenty three trade missions over the next term, which
- 2:14Speaker 2: is exciting for business. So I just think now there's
- 2:18Speaker 2: going to be a real crystallizing of minds, a focus
- 2:21Speaker 2: in government with m fat MPI and New Zealand Trade
- 2:26Speaker 2: and Enterprise to work concernedly together on these opportunities.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Good stuff, Nathan, appreciate your time this morning. Nathan, guy
- 2:33Speaker 1: who is meeting Thry Your Association course former minister as well.
