- 0:47Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and story along with some of his own personal experiences
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 1: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 1: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: So those who were scattered went on their way, proclaiming
- 1:28Speaker 2: the message of good news. Philip went down to a
- 1:32Speaker 2: city in Samaria and preached the Messiah to them. The
- 1:37Speaker 2: crowds paid attention with one mind to what Philip said
- 1:42Speaker 2: as they heard and saw the suns he was performing
- 1:46Speaker 2: for unclean spirits. Crying out with a loud voice came
- 1:50Speaker 2: out of many who were possessed, and many who were paralyzed,
- 1:54Speaker 2: and laye were healed. So there was great joy in
- 2:00Speaker 2: that city Acts, Chapter eight Versus four through eight in
- 2:07Speaker 2: an earlier part of our study in the power of
- 2:13Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit. We have seen examples throughout scripture, not
- 2:20Speaker 2: only in the Book of Acts, but certainly we have
- 2:23Speaker 2: seen it manifested in many believers in the Book of Acts.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And one of the things that I think most people
- 2:33Speaker 2: have a tendency to do is read these accounts so
- 2:39Speaker 2: that we can see that there was a difference in
- 2:43Speaker 2: the way that the ministry was actually achieved. But yet
- 2:49Speaker 2: there doesn't seem to be as much of a radical
- 2:53Speaker 2: longing for the same power of the Spirit to reside
- 3:00Speaker 2: in us today. Perhaps it's because we have it too easy.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Perhaps we have become complacent, comfortable in what we now believe.
- 3:16Speaker 2: But whatever the reason, individually and as the Church as
- 3:23Speaker 2: a whole, we have a hunger, a longing for the
- 3:29Speaker 2: fullness of God. Where have we found more evidence of
- 3:37Speaker 2: the fullness of God than in the baptism of the
- 3:43Speaker 2: Holy Spirit. In my own personal experience, I can tell
- 3:48Speaker 2: you that I did not have the same background or
- 3:54Speaker 2: perhaps church experience, that perhaps some of you may have had.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Being brought up in a Jewish family, I had a
- 4:06Speaker 2: different view of what the religious position may have been
- 4:12Speaker 2: as presented to me for Christianity, it didn't look as invited,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and the reason is probably because the well meaning believers
- 4:27Speaker 2: that were presenting Jesus to me had the words that
- 4:34Speaker 2: they could share, but the demonstration of life changing power
- 4:41Speaker 2: may have existed in their testimony, but communicating it to me,
- 4:47Speaker 2: as a young Jewish man, it did not work as well.
- 4:55Speaker 2: The power of the Holy Spirit changes the light of
- 5:00Speaker 2: an unbeliever. It makes the unbeliever hungry and thirsty for
- 5:09Speaker 2: the deep things of God. It's what's lacking in the
- 5:13Speaker 2: life of every person. There's a place inside of us
- 5:20Speaker 2: that God created that only He can fill. In our lives.
- 5:27Speaker 2: That place must be filled by the Holy Spirit. There's
- 5:33Speaker 2: no other way that we can have the comforter, the
- 5:39Speaker 2: one who comes with us, lives in us and works
- 5:45Speaker 2: through us. We are only the vessels that he uses.
- 5:51Speaker 2: And as we read in this earlier segment in Acts
- 5:56Speaker 2: chapter eight, we saw that Philip was the one who
- 6:00Speaker 2: was sent down to Samaria. Now, when he left Jerusalem,
- 6:09Speaker 2: at that point he was by himself. Philip was not
- 6:15Speaker 2: carrying an entourage or a whole group that would be
- 6:20Speaker 2: able to band together to either protect him or to
- 6:25Speaker 2: help him. He went by himself, but I have to
- 6:30Speaker 2: correct that he didn't go by himself. The Holy Spirit
- 6:36Speaker 2: led him to Samaria. And it's an interesting thing that
- 6:42Speaker 2: in this particular passage Philip preached, but the power of
- 6:50Speaker 2: God was what was demonstrated. You see, his preaching was
- 6:56Speaker 2: not the only thing that changed the life lives. Why
- 7:01Speaker 2: was there such great joy in that city because they
- 7:05Speaker 2: saw people who were afflicted or who were injured. They
- 7:12Speaker 2: saw people who were captive of the devil set free.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Not because Philip was a great orator, and not because
- 7:25Speaker 2: was perhaps the great preacher. He just proclaimed the gospel,
- 7:31Speaker 2: but it was manifested with signs following. And you see
- 7:37Speaker 2: the big difference is we sometimes will rest in what
- 7:43Speaker 2: we had, rather than realizing that God fills us for
- 7:50Speaker 2: one purpose so that we can overflow in his power
- 7:56Speaker 2: to others. Without that, all we are is what Paul
- 8:03Speaker 2: had actually described when he uses the term that without love,
- 8:12Speaker 2: we become like a tinkling symbol, or we're just a
- 8:20Speaker 2: sounding vessel, not a power for vessel. And the love
- 8:28Speaker 2: is what causes us to want to see sinners forgiven.
- 8:35Speaker 2: The love is what drives us to bring the power
- 8:41Speaker 2: of God to everyone that we meet. You see, our
- 8:48Speaker 2: issue is the same. We need the Holy Spirit's guidance
- 8:54Speaker 2: or we're doing it in our own strength.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And so.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Read something else from experiencing the Holy Spirit. And I
- 9:06Speaker 2: want you to understand that for a healthy Christian life,
- 9:12Speaker 2: it is indispensable that we should be fully conscious that
- 9:19Speaker 2: we have the Holy Spirit in dwelling us in power.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Had it been otherwise, Paul would have never asked the
- 9:30Speaker 2: question did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believe?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Disciples were recognized as believers and the position that they
- 9:43Speaker 2: had that point, however, was not enough for them. You see,
- 9:50Speaker 2: there are many who are disciples today. Where do we stand?
- 9:57Speaker 2: Are there disciples in the body of Christ who know
- 10:02Speaker 2: very little or even nothing of the conscious power of
- 10:08Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit. Have we been so misled that the
- 10:14Speaker 2: Pentecostal experience has been categorized for only a radical few?
- 10:23Speaker 2: Or is this really for all believers? According to the scripture,
- 10:32Speaker 2: it is for all believers to be full of the
- 10:37Speaker 2: Holy Spirit. And it doesn't say half full, and it
- 10:42Speaker 2: doesn't say partially full. It says full. But the term
- 10:49Speaker 2: that is used to describe the fullness of the Holy
- 10:53Speaker 2: Spirit is not just to the brim of let's say,
- 10:57Speaker 2: the container. It is the overflowing capability of the flowing
- 11:05Speaker 2: of the Holy Spirit, the overflowing It is almost as
- 11:10Speaker 2: if we view ourselves as this vessel filled with the
- 11:15Speaker 2: power of God, not so that we ourselves can draw attention,
- 11:21Speaker 2: but because we can spill out on others that power.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Do you remember that when Peter and John approached the
- 11:33Speaker 2: lame beggar who was asking for alms for the poor,
- 11:39Speaker 2: and Peter said to the lame beggar that silver and
- 11:46Speaker 2: gold have I none? We know that in the King
- 11:51Speaker 2: James it sounds like a poem. But such as I have,
- 11:59Speaker 2: I'll give you. And then he said to him, in
- 12:04Speaker 2: the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise and walk.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Now there was one thing for him to command it.
- 12:15Speaker 2: But without the power of the Holy Spirit lowing and
- 12:19Speaker 2: overflowing from Peter into this lane beggar, there would have
- 12:25Speaker 2: been no means of him standing in victory. And what
- 12:30Speaker 2: was the result. The lane beggar rose stood, He was
- 12:37Speaker 2: no longer lane. He went leaping, jumping and praising God.
- 12:42Speaker 2: They could not stop him because of the change effected
- 12:49Speaker 2: in his life, and I think today we have to
- 12:54Speaker 2: look at ourselves and we have to say, do we,
- 12:59Speaker 2: as believers today desire life changing power working in us.
- 13:10Speaker 2: If we don't, then we need to examine our own
- 13:14Speaker 2: experience with the Lord Jesus. Because if the Lord commanded
- 13:20Speaker 2: us to be full, then he meant for us to
- 13:25Speaker 2: be full. There's no mistake, there's no change. Jesus is
- 13:32Speaker 2: the same yesterday, today, and forever. So if the Church
- 13:39Speaker 2: has lost the power of the Holy Spirit, and I'm
- 13:44Speaker 2: not saying that it has in total, but if the
- 13:48Speaker 2: Church has lost it in many aspects, if substituted instruction
- 13:56Speaker 2: and education has become the norm, then we are looking
- 14:04Speaker 2: at a knee for the Church to return to Pentecosts.
- 14:12Speaker 2: You see, Pentecost is not just an event in history.
- 14:19Speaker 2: It's a daily walking in the fullness of God's spirit.
- 14:25Speaker 2: When Jesus said that you shall do the works that
- 14:33Speaker 2: I do, and greater works than these, because I go
- 14:40Speaker 2: to my Father.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 14:45Speaker 1: But if you just joined us, you've been listening to

- 15:22Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard
- 15:26Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 15:31Speaker 2: While he was there with them in physical form, he
- 15:35Speaker 2: performed all of the works that he did only through
- 15:42Speaker 2: the submission to the Holy Spirit. And we know that
- 15:48Speaker 2: if Jesus submitted to the power of the Holy Spirit,
- 15:54Speaker 2: we should do the same, because in the Great Commission
- 16:00Speaker 2: he said, all power and authority has been given to me.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Now go and make disciples, baptizing them in the name
- 16:14Speaker 2: of the Father and of the Son and of the
- 16:19Speaker 2: Holy Spirit. The baptism in the Holy Spirit is a
- 16:26Speaker 2: functional work in the body of Christ. It has never ceased,
- 16:32Speaker 2: and it will never cease until the Lord Jesus sets
- 16:38Speaker 2: up his kingdom on this earth again. We need to
- 16:46Speaker 2: be filled with the Holy Spirit, and that is today's
- 16:53Speaker 2: reflection on the work.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Thank you Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 16:59Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 17:02Speaker 1: Richard K for Richard Higher Team. This is Chuck Christie
- 17:05Speaker 1: saying thanks for listening to this edition of Reflections on
- 17:09Speaker 1: the Word.
