- 0:00Hello, and welcome to success. It's Marge Simpson. I need you to
- 0:04coach like I've never coached before. Marge. Please, I'm with a client
- 0:09now. You listen here. Bob, we paid you off as savings we
- 0:13had in the world. You can at least tell my husband something encouraging.
- 0:18All right, Homer, what is it you're attempting to do? Went over
- 0:20a difficult client. I'm trying to land a plane with no experience, Homer.
- 0:24I gotta tell you I'm not very good. I went to the Harvard
- 0:27of the South. Duke that's good, not Duke Vanderbilt a little further south.
- 0:32Don't make me say it, forefinger disgunt, dude. Maybe wondering whou
- 0:52the audio a little bit shit at start there? I wasn't it in record
- 0:54again. It's because I'm so used to pushing just record there. But you
- 0:57know what, I don't care. I'm gonna fuck. I'm just gonna use
- 0:59these for the cameras. Dando has reached Season nineteen podcast. It doesn't give
- 1:04a fuck anymore. It's understandable. We are having a good chat. We
- 1:10are checking ourselves out in the camera looking good. Yeah, we won't get
- 1:14to the end and go, let's just redo it. We'd better redo that.
- 1:17Yeah, but you know, season nineteen did not kick off with a
- 1:21bang. You know what the biggest disappointment for me for season nineteen was it
- 1:23was the fact that, besides the opening intro, they didn't incorporate any elements
- 1:29from the movie, almost as if the movie just didn't exist. They sort
- 1:32of acknowledged it in the intro with the skateboarding through the characters and all kind
- 1:34of stuff, and they don't and all that kind of stuff like that,
- 1:37but then it was just forgotten about. They didn't get Spider Pig after the
- 1:38couch game. That's true. I think they just thought, okay, well,
- 1:42well this, we'll do our due diligence, will acknowledge that there was
- 1:46a movie events happened in it. But it's just status quo. I get
- 1:49start a movie. It's not canon apparently. But when you have a movie,
- 1:53right, you think, surely you're going to do something that is going
- 1:55to play on forever, even if it's just having Spider Pig in sitting in
- 1:57the kitchen, having every once in a while to have it trot through the
- 2:00frame. Yeah, it just it didn't bother me. But I just thought,
- 2:04what a wasted opportunity there. You've just done this movie and I get
- 2:07that you acknowledged it at the start, but it should play into canon somehow.
- 2:12And I know canon is a dirty word, but Spider Pek was huge
- 2:15at the time. Remember Spider Pick. Spider Pick was very well. They
- 2:16based the whole all the trailers around spot exactly right. People were singing spider
- 2:21Pig, spider Pick. So why was Spider Pick not in the show?
- 2:23Now? I don't know the world had spider Pig fever. They did,
- 2:25indeed, but yeah, he loves to fly and he does. So we
- 2:29had the guest stars from Lanovichie, which was just a shameless cameo, it
- 2:31wasn't and we had Stephen Colbert, so Stephen Colbert as Colby Krause another what
- 2:38have you called a fresh face? It's like, yeah, it's just a
- 2:40shoehorning in, is it? Though? Yeah? I think what disappointed me
- 2:46about this episode? And sorry I'm talking of due diligence. I really should
- 2:50have done mine and gone back and then that how many times Homer has had
- 2:54either a legitimate life coach or just a role model or someone in his corner
- 3:00saying change your life by doing this. Well, the problem is they blew
- 3:05their load with Carl and season two. That's very much. There's no going
- 3:07back from that. It's like you've had Carl. It's only down from there.
- 3:10Yeah, now, forgive me. Is Carl and Max Power? Is
- 3:13that the same episode? Carl season two, Max Power season ten? Okay?
- 3:16Then Max Power was just home and getting his shit together himself because he's
- 3:21the character on TV and he got a new scarf. That's right. Yeah,
- 3:23but Carl was Harvey have you one? No, it was not Harvey
- 3:30Fire. Yes, Hard must be sitting aging common mister Hard must be sitting
- 3:34there going my god. I didn't. But he was so good as Carl.
- 3:42He was great, and that was a I thought that was a great
- 3:44storyline as well, despite the fact that I clearly conflated too and couldn't remember
- 3:49an individual one es. Also, one of the quotes are using every day,
- 3:52every day life, whenever we go shopping, let's go shopping. The
- 3:55thing I remember most from that episode is when he gets the tailor's seas you
- 4:00conceal it or something like that. It's so good, it's fantasy. If
- 4:04I ever get in the tailor enemies you conceal this. He was the best
- 4:11life coach home he's ever had, very much, and when you get Cobbe
- 4:15Krause, this just feels lame. Our friends in other parts of the world,
- 4:18we probably talked about this in the past, But there's a chain of
- 4:20supermarket see called n QR stands for not quite right. These items that have
- 4:27been discontinued are approaching their best by date, or even they're used by date.
- 4:30I discovered there's a difference. You never heard that ever. It says
- 4:34used by it, don't touch. It's like this is a recommendation. Shuck
- 4:39the fish, unt touch to dyes, and Kobe Krause felt very much like
- 4:50the n QR version of In America, you might say the dime Store,
- 4:56the nineteen nineties of chains. Understand the Franklin's Fresh. He's not even the
- 5:01Aldi. No no, I won't have Aldi. No no, That's what
- 5:05I mean. Like but Adi, I told you about the Tariza and Haluomi
- 5:09burgers of this Oh so delightful. I get that, But it's Aldi will
- 5:12forever be seen as Oh, it's that other supermarket. It's not the big
- 5:15Dots, tims a tough kitchen. Aldi chocolate this. But but during COVID
- 5:20they were great for getting past it. They always had a ship leader pasta.
- 5:23You go to Coles was like you can have one packet now He's like,
- 5:26take what you want. Boys, it's a friend zre. So yeah,
- 5:32Colby was very much that that kind of thing. I'm wondering where Colbert.
- 5:38Do we still call him Stephen Colbert? I mean there's actually a pronounce
- 5:41his name, because I was of a mind that when he had his show
- 5:44where he was the sort of the right wing talk show, it's like a
- 5:46bit of a spin off from the Daily Right was he Well, that's the
- 5:49thing. It was a bit of a pisstake. He was like a I
- 5:51think he was like a mock Fox Newsy kind of host, and the Colbert
- 5:57was kind of a bit of a weird flourished they put it. I don't
- 5:59know it's at Colbert or anything like that. If his real name is actually
- 6:03Colbert, my apology Stephen, I've always said Colbert. I'm wondering where he
- 6:09was placed at this time, if we're still doing that show, or if
- 6:11he'd become a one of the late night talk show hosts in the in the
- 6:16Jimmy Vein, let's go Stephen Colbert two thousand and seven. That's when this
- 6:20air The Colbert Report two thousand and sevens Colbert. Okay, so he's doing
- 6:24Colbert Report. Yea, so he was a name. And this just feels
- 6:29like we had a bit of a bitch before we started recording today, right
- 6:31how podcasts just feel like we'll bitch about TV show rewatch podcasts and how the
- 6:35co stars go. We're going to rewatch the show with you guys now because
- 6:39we're not feeling it anymore. But podcasts in general just feels like it's a
- 6:43bunch of celebrities now going who can get the next guest celebrity. It's almost
- 6:46like talk shows have become podcasts. It was very much there's anybody but Mad
- 6:49Groening. You're stealing our bets. Yeah, And now it feels like The
- 6:54Simpsons season nineteen is almost feeling like, hey, look who've got this week?
- 6:58And let's base an episode around that. And it's like, ah,
- 7:01the story is not strong enough. Yeah, And there's life march higher than
- 7:06my life? Why why I've got in my notes, I've written WTF every
- 7:12time I just went what's going on here? And there was several of those
- 7:15here. It just doesn't This just felt such a weak premise for a season
- 7:18premiere. It did. I mean, I like the idea, not just
- 7:24on in fiction and The Simpsons, but in general about having occasionally a life
- 7:30coach or an outside source to take a look at what's going on in your
- 7:35life. But it was like, wasn't it like last season or just before
- 7:38when Homer and Marge were life coaches for the married couple. Remember that's right,
- 7:44got marriage. I'm thinking, how many stories it's just the same story
- 7:46rehashed. I don't know. And if you're going to do that, at
- 7:50least find a different Anglo or get someone else to have a life coach.
- 7:54Well, my theory was, this is a season premiere, right, and
- 7:57I'm the Simpsons. I mind the Simpsons. I want the first scene of
- 8:00season premier, not the intro of the movie stuff. The first scene needs
- 8:03to be something that hooks you, right, and it needs to go,
- 8:05Wow, this is awesome. Mister Burn's just walking through a wall and getting
- 8:07sucked into a water fountain. That was like the first five minutes, I'm
- 8:11thinking, wow, this They really have thrown in the towel here this just
- 8:13feel this feels like what I expected was Season eighteen. People were saying,
- 8:18whilst I'm making the movie, we're kind of distracted, but maybe it near
- 8:22enough is good enough? Maybe season nineteen because Season nineteen edge straight after.
- 8:24Maybe they were making Season nineteen at the same time as Simpson movie. I'm
- 8:28not too sure because simpce this movie came out in what two thousand and seven,
- 8:31and this edge in September two thousand and seven, so this came out,
- 8:33so they probably were making this at the same time as well. This
- 8:35just screamed like we just don't care. I thought, at least you didn't
- 8:39try. No, they just I don't know. I was really disappointed for
- 8:43a season premiere because last season, remember we had the Moot, the Chef
- 8:46the Fact, which was a fantastic use of guest stars. Absolutely, whilst
- 8:50yeah, it felt like a very original story perspective that we hadn't seen before,
- 8:54still made use of central Simptoms characters, by which I mean the Simpsons.
- 9:01But but least I had nothing to do with this episode. No,
- 9:05but just had to and that's it. Yeah, that was his highlight.
- 9:09Otherwise he's just been a little brat, which is I don't know, kind
- 9:11of his Raisin debtrop but at the same time saying this feels played out.
- 9:16Yeah, my favorite What were your favorite moments in the episode? Case,
- 9:20I'm looking at mine and I've written nothing. I've written the store names.
- 9:26I liked the background gags there, so the shoe in. I liked the
- 9:30costmo things like that. But overall, there wasn't really much to enjoy,
- 9:33I thought in this episode, which is a real shame. You're right,
- 9:37You're right. I mean I've already sort of alluded to. I liked the
- 9:41idea of Homer having a life coach, but I think that's more please someone
- 9:46get the sort out my life at the moment. I liked the idea of
- 9:48Homer being one person at the bowling Alley where he's in his element. Bring
- 9:52that version of yourself to the real world exactly. That's the story there,
- 9:56but it just didn't really evolve from that. I just thought, like montage
- 10:00of him wearing the shoes having sex with Marge and Stuffy, and he stopped
- 10:03wearing the shoes at some sages. I thought the story the story should have
- 10:05been, he wears those shoes everywhere and then he loses the shoes and now
- 10:07he's gotta he's gonna find his mojo. Yeah, it was in you the
- 10:11whole time. That's the That's what I thought they were going. And it's
- 10:13like, no, he's just he was wearing the shoes for about a montage
- 10:16went for about fifteen seconds, and he's wearing the shoes. Look, I
- 10:20thought the Itching Scratchy episode Come Flay with Me actually did a pretty good job
- 10:24of talking basiness. I swear they've done that title before, Itchy and Scratchy,
- 10:28Come Flay with Me. I'm sure you know some skin has been removed
- 10:33at some stages during one of those cartoons, so we can hear. Come
- 10:35Flay with Me is an episode of The Itchy and Scratchy Show from I'll Tell
- 10:39You Find this episode. Oh, I was wrong. I could have sworn
- 10:43we had that title before. But anyway, Dan, or at least you
- 10:45try. I'm watching it. I'm watching it though, going yeah, I
- 10:48don't think I'd be comfortable with Holly and Elliott watching this. And that's what
- 10:52the whole basis for the season two episode of The Itchy, Itchy, Scratchy
- 10:54and March Show whatever it is. When Marge is annoyed by the vance that
- 10:58Itching and Scratchy sort of shows on TV and the kids copy it, and
- 11:01I'm watching this going I don't think Elliott and Holly should be seeing this.
- 11:05Okay, so should they be watching The Simpsons yet? That's maybe just not
- 11:07the chin scratchy ones. I don't know. So is that on you or
- 11:11is that on the show or it's a bit of both. Yeah, The
- 11:15Simpsons is designed to be for kids and adults. But I just think Elliott
- 11:18and Holly would be mortified by It's not that I think they would copy it,
- 11:20but I think they would be startled by seeing what you see in the
- 11:24Geen Scratchy. Don't you think a three year old seeing a masking has had
- 11:28a cat head cut off? Oh? Yeah, that's too much. Yeah,
- 11:31I mean it's always It's always been the joke about itching and scratchy,
- 11:35like, oh my god, there's violin cartoon and kids think it's hilarious.
- 11:37Yeah, but they can't quite my kids yet. Elliott maybe's nearly six,
- 11:41but Holly can't differentiate the difference between what's really what's not. I would say
- 11:43a three year old there is way too little to be watching that kind of
- 11:46thing. Yeah, middle. As I always say, not a parent,
- 11:50but I can't understand why my mom didn't be watching the Simpsons. Now I've
- 11:54become by mum. Kat's in the cradle spoon what else? Don Joy thought?
- 12:01I didn't mind the song with Lionel Richie. I didn't mind that.
- 12:05I thought Lionel gave one hundred percent yea the time. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:07he committed to the bit and he was in on the joke and did it
- 12:11and did a good job with it. As we were just talking about Aldi
- 12:15and NQR, I love that you're picking up labels like Miser's Delight no sorry,
- 12:22Miser's Choice and Dale Delight. It's like I would probably buy these.
- 12:24Speaking of NQR, you may have said on our Facebook page and I recently
- 12:28put a picture of Simpson's pasta right, which was from from Italy and you
- 12:33can't find it anywhere. I bought thirty bags of it right now selling for
- 12:37now, selling on eBay for fifty dollars a bag. I bought them for
- 12:41two dollars a bag, and you're selling them money fish, haven't he been
- 12:43bought? Yes, I've sold six bags at forty eight dollars each. My
- 12:50mummy so I've turned what I rack no, right crazy right, look at
- 12:58it, don Carley. I've put up there forbidding the first one, and
- 13:05the first one went for nearly sixty dollars, and I was like, well,
- 13:07I'll just Laura a little bit and put it back now and just leave
- 13:09him up there and yep, tickling through. No, it's one. Yeah,
- 13:13always got your eyes on the price. And to wrap up the things
- 13:18that I enjoyed about this episode, it is a good motivator when someone says,
- 13:22I heard some guy you say, couldn't do that? Okay? Yeah,
- 13:26well yes, what's the skinny thing to get a crappy dishquestion? Did
- 13:31you have any favorite moments? Not really w F moments, just the just
- 13:35the sho shot titles and lone of it. I thought was good in what
- 13:39he was. I thought he was better than Stephen Colbert, I think,
- 13:41so it was well, it was just funnier. Yeah, overall I didn't
- 13:43mind. Is it savettnah? Yes? Next question? You there eating the
- 13:50paste? All right, so it's time now for some trivia. What's your
- 13:54first question? Well, speaking of the mall and the way we open up,
- 13:58can you you name all or at least Dodgers was the last one?
- 14:03Okay, all or at least three? The items question is what's the last
- 14:07one of them? Okay, well it was Brooklyn Dodgers, but the others
- 14:09were Laudanum, cotton, gin, spats and a cell phone. What's spats?
- 14:13Spats are a type of shoe. Okay, you'll find they are often
- 14:16two tone. Now she might be button up as well. I forgot to
- 14:20mention in our previous segment Favorite Moments, how do I forget Crazy ET's phone
- 14:24home? I was like, that's actually very clever. Plus you were contractually
- 14:31obliged anytime Et appears on any screen to mention it. Yes, but because
- 14:35it's your favorite movie. There was that element of for a while with Markey,
- 14:39it's crazy Eddie or it's crazy. What was the one for the phones?
- 14:43Here in Australia there was a crazy something and he sold phones. Oh
- 14:46that's right, Do you remember? I only remember Ken Bruce has gone man,
- 14:50Kemprus has gone mad. Bruce Shoulder dressed up as his system of Donna.
- 14:58What a crazy time for having Ken Bruce? What a legend? What
- 15:01was that? Frank Wiker im national Tar you have? Who was the fact
- 15:05that I sell on the log of detergents. Oh, big keV, Big
- 15:09keV. Yeah he's excited. Yeah, I'm excited. That's right, very
- 15:11excited. Remember when Mike Munro used to rocking people's doors and nappy s hand
- 15:16Mike mud respected journalist formost sixty minute staff for Mike Munroe with rock up,
- 15:22and I can't believe it's getting rid of the baby steats? What is going
- 15:26on? The weirdest big keV moment though, was he'd come along and he'd
- 15:31bring along his his laundry relictatory stain remover or whatever. Yeah, and Krazy
- 15:37John's was the fame cover Crazy John, and he would Big Kevi would invite
- 15:41people to give it a try and then come back a bit later. But
- 15:43he sort of he lurched out from behind the like Penny Wise, but he
- 15:48sort of slipped I'm back. Yeah, that's exactly how he said. Big
- 15:54keV. God bless him. Probably a very nice fellow. And he also
- 15:56looked kind of intimidating. He looked like he could be like a bouncer.
- 16:00But he got a state funeral. I remember when he passed away. I
- 16:02always remember when because he's a massive, massive Beatles fan. For some reason.
- 16:06I remember when he passed away, they played when he was casket was
- 16:07getting walked down, All you Need is Love by the Beatles. So now
- 16:10whenever I hear that song, I think of Big Kev's funeral. Oh wow,
- 16:12how was that? Because I was like, hey, you like the
- 16:15Beatles too, I remember watching that news story. But Big keV, Yeah,
- 16:19I'm excited. He's excited. Big cav So Crazy John's they went out
- 16:23of business in twenty fourteen. That's a shame that were Australia's largest independent phone
- 16:30retailer. There's no room for the independent these days, whether it's in crazy
- 16:33phone sales or podcasting. Started by a Turkish Australian businessman, John Ihan,
- 16:38Ah, yeah, had six hundred retail stores. That's a legitimate business.
- 16:44I hope Crazy John cashed out. Yeah, and now he's on a beach
- 16:48earning twenty percent I hope. So. In January twenty thirteen, voter Fane
- 16:51announced that it was the close up to forty of their Crazy John's co branded
- 16:53stores. What so, voterafone must have bought them out. Huh, that's
- 16:59great. He started in Brunsway, Victoria in nineteen ninety one. And by
- 17:03nineteen ninety eight, there were fifteen stores in Victoria and the retailers rate in
- 17:07the top ten of Teustra's mobile dealers. As of January twenty thirteen, they
- 17:10had sixty one stores. And then it just exploded. You know now pretty
- 17:15much everything there is to know about Crazy Days why you're tuning in. But
- 17:19anyway, let's get into our stoven cutders. Oh. I thought we were
- 17:23in the middle of trivia, but we're going to do Oh do we have
- 17:26more trivia questions? Well? I just asked one? Okay, what is
- 17:30bodly average? Oh? Gosh? Uh? Two? Ten? Nearly?
- 17:37Sorry, I had a drink? Or what are there to fifteen? Nearly
- 17:40to seventeen? Yes, the penny in the wishing well that mister burnsineteen eighty
- 17:48nine, nineteen eighty nine. Oh, it's like one mind incredible. How
- 17:52much are iPhone is apparently now worth? The one time with the Simpsons predicted?
- 17:56Wrong? Oh? Uh? Oh like twenty twenty cents? Yeah,
- 18:00that's that joke, did not age? Well? No, and final question
- 18:06Sam sung galaxy. Yes, that's what I've got as well sounds what's your
- 18:08final question? Friend of the pod? Uh? The rich Texan. His
- 18:14secretary of the copper tubing uh place is named what or named who? Shelley.
- 18:21You're very close, Shelley, You're getting further away. What is it?
- 18:23It's Cheryl, Cheryl somewhere all right? No, Now what's stone for
- 18:30stone cuts? We do, especially Katie g Our, top tier supporter,

- 19:45all those names, and you get your shout out on next week's episode.
- 19:48Keep cutting those stones, all right. So the original air date of He
- 19:52Loves to Fly and Doze, before we go a little further into it,
- 19:56made a little explanation about that title. I looked at the tone. I
- 20:00was like, what's this a play on? I was prepared to do an
- 20:03incredible deep dive anything there to find out. I did my deep dive and
- 20:07I crashed my head on Wikipedia because that's where they explained it. It is
- 20:11apparently a play on we love to fly, and it chose which is a
- 20:15tagline from Delta Airlines. Oh okay, they still exist, Delta. I
- 20:21think they're still around. I don't know if they're that well regarded an airline,
- 20:23okay, but they're the jet Star of America. I think they're the
- 20:27Tiger. I remember Tiger or the Bombser they went out, didn't they Tiger?
- 20:32I believe, so, yeah. Avlon was like, oh no,
- 20:37we have a local airport, the Avalon Airport. That used to always just
- 20:40be jest Star and Tiger. It was all it was, yes, and
- 20:41that's what it was. Now it's just Jet Star, all right. So
- 20:45the original air day was Timber twenty three, two thousand and seven, written
- 20:48by Joel H. Cohen and directed by our man Mark Kirkland, the Chopball
- 20:52Gig. I will not wait twenty years to make another movie. It looks
- 20:55like they're going to, because this was two thousand and seven, where what
- 20:57three is away from that now? And there's no sign of any movie being
- 21:00announced or in preparation, So maybe he is one coming. Who knows.
- 21:03I may know something, but I'm not gonna reveal on this podcast because I'm
- 21:06not allowed to. I don't know anything the couch gag, so we had
- 21:11so basically the intro here was all various elements from the movie, so he
- 21:15had our shards of the dome there, and when Bart rides his skateboard through
- 21:19the street, it's all characters from the movie. Who was that the Irish
- 21:22kid he's not Bono's son. Oh yeah, that guy who Lisa was in
- 21:26love with, who never appears again. The lady that gave home the the
- 21:33medicine, remember when he had the eit me? I know all there's what's
- 21:37called the piphany. Brave fart that dad brain of me. That's not the
- 21:42word epiphany. Hopefully Daniel will show this bit, but he's doing the stand
- 21:47of come on, give it to me, you know I'm trying to do.
- 21:49I'm asleep. And the Native American woman here and and who all of
- 21:56them never appear again. We got the guy Russ cargill O belive his name
- 21:59is. He should have been Hanks Coorpio. The villain ship be Hang Scorpio.
- 22:00You had Albert Brooks there. What are you doing? Albert Brooks is
- 22:04in the studio. Unless Albert Brooks says, I specifically don't want to be
- 22:07Hang Scorpio. You just have Hanks Scorpio be the villain the movie, right,
- 22:10you would think, so, yeah, everyone loves Hak Scorpio. That's
- 22:12the that's the waste opportunity in my opinion, for the Simpsons movie. And
- 22:15we have Mohi with his cone on his head, just various elements from the
- 22:18movie. And they get to the Kison chortz. Yes, that's right.
- 22:22Yeah, And we get to the cash Gaga and Popper is there at the
- 22:23pig and he calls him my summer love. And that's the end of Popper.
- 22:27Okay, that's the we are memory holding the Simpsons movie apparently. Yeah,
- 22:32I just weird, right, You think you would have incorporated into the
- 22:34first episode, or at least some Well, I think this is them doing
- 22:38that. I think it's like, yeah, we had the Simpsons movie,
- 22:41you liked it. There's bits and pieces from it, but it's probably gonna
- 22:45be too complicated for us to fold aspects of that movie into this ongoing story.
- 22:51Now, well, that's why they get paid the big bucks to not
- 22:56do it. Yes, that's the dream. Lots of money do not work.
- 23:00Yes, kicks off with Burns and Smithers shopping for a new phone.
- 23:03They've got a crazy ets phone home. We get the message over the speaker.
- 23:07iPhones in that twenty cents very rare. The Simpsons are so far off
- 23:11when it comes to predictions, and this was off. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:12I mean the hip miss ratio is usually pretty good. Yeah. The mini
- 23:18cell phone that Smithers gave him was eating because you thought it was a lemon
- 23:19drop. So Smithers think goes to get the number D listed, but then
- 23:22later on the episode copy calls the number he clearly does not. Yes,
- 23:26so weird dropping the ball, sees the nineteen eighty nine penny in the fountain,
- 23:30decides he's going to region and grab it, falls in and then gets
- 23:33sucked through the pipes, and I'm thinking, okay, so we're doing this
- 23:37with burnstill cool? We owned a plus I don't know You've got a cameo
- 23:41by Ralph Wighaan licking in non existent ice cream. There were some words mentioned
- 23:45in this episode that I went, oh, I don't think you should be
- 23:48saying these on television anymore. The tea word and the S word. You
- 23:51know what we're talking about, the freak fry it makes you what die by
- 23:55s oh? Yes? Yeah? And then commercial planes are only for losers
- 24:00and tease. It's a terrorists. Oh that's right, Like wow, we're
- 24:04making terrorist gags on planes. In two thousand and seven, I must admitted
- 24:07they think, oh, well, enough time has passed, since I don't
- 24:11think enough time will ever transpire. You don't make jokes about terrorists on planes.
- 24:15Thank you for spelling it out to me, because I when I was
- 24:18watching going, yeah, I don't think you're watching enough YouTube these days.
- 24:22And if so many words get sort of blurred out or omitted, or they
- 24:26use euphemisms or whatever, like oh boy, that this work day made me
- 24:30want to unlive myself or something like that, like you can't say the S
- 24:34word or even the kay myself words. Yeah. So yeah, for your
- 24:41contact creators out there, never use the words kill, murder, or suicide
- 24:45in titles. Just don't do it, Just do not do it. But
- 24:49the thing is, we also got that here's your boyfriend, you know,
- 24:53my boyfriend? Like, wow, two thousand and seven, what a time,
- 24:57a less progressive time. Oh we weren't, were not. I don't
- 25:00think it was. I just think the Simpsons was just the writer's room was
- 25:03just stuck in nineteen ninety seven, don't you like I don't. I don't
- 25:07think by two thousand and seven we were far past this shit. Maybe look
- 25:14I'm trying to be Maybe I'm being far too charitable and thinking, Oh,
- 25:18the whole he's not my boyfriend thing is not really a not so much a
- 25:22gay joke, is more like a reversalon. That's a gay joke. Okay,
- 25:26well, okay, that's why would you say he's your boyfriend? Don't
- 25:30you ever say have you ever said that to like your little sister or something,
- 25:33particularly when you were kids. Yes, but that's that's this was implied
- 25:37here, that Homer is fruity. That was as the Simpsons would put it.
- 25:40That's what they're implying here. Okay, Like I said, I was
- 25:42being charitable and probably wrongly. So it's just because in recent history with the
- 25:47Simpsons, with season seventeen eighteen, it's been full of these kind of games,
- 25:49that's correct. Yes, all right, I'm not gonna play Devil's for
- 25:55the Simpsons anymore. It just doesn't make me sad. But I just sort
- 26:00of go, I'm a little bit disappointed, Simpsons. I feel like you're
- 26:03better than this. That was the show for me, The Simpsons. You
- 26:07had homophobia in like nineteen ninety six and one. That should have been the
- 26:10beginning and ending. That should have been your you guys going we acknowledge.
- 26:14We've been saying, shit, we shouldn't have. But you know, Homer
- 26:15is our main character by this point. He's learned from this. He's not
- 26:18going to be this way anymore. And then they just fucking threw out the
- 26:22window. What was the point? What makes homosphobia feel pointless? Doesn't it?
- 26:26It does because if that felt progressive at the time, and it's just
- 26:30they've just throw out the window. John Waters was probably watching this guy.
- 26:33You let me down? Yeah, yeah, anyway, But so yeah,
- 26:37birds A get sut through the fountain. Homer decides to save him. You
- 26:40obviously dinner with him. For me, that's you. And then he goes
- 26:45back in for the Now this last ten seconds here, this is what I've
- 26:47got as my first WTF moment. So he goes and I'm going to pinch
- 26:49you back as well whatever. He goes back in for the penny falls in
- 26:52and Homer's looking at him and he goes, I've got it, and he
- 26:55goes mm hmm and just walks off, and I'm thinking, what was that?
- 27:00Yeah? What was that? It is the vague semblance outline of a
- 27:06joke. Ish, where is the joke there? I don't know that home
- 27:11has gone to all this effort, not even all this effort to save him.
- 27:12But wouldn't it be funnier though, if he'd fallen in it reaches it,
- 27:17pulls h out and he's like thank you or something like that is to
- 27:18say, oh, you had to save him again. But here, so
- 27:21he falls in and layser and goes, I've got it. Yeah, pull
- 27:25him out and say, right for that, I'm taking him out for dinner
- 27:27again. I reckon. The original scene here didn't have him saying I've got
- 27:30it, and Homer just went mm hmm and leaving him in the fountain and
- 27:33walked off. And then they added in they've got it later on, because
- 27:37he doesn't hold up the corner or anything. He's just like you just hear
- 27:40the audio. I reckon. They went, it doesn't really make sense for
- 27:41having it and leave him in the water the second time, so let's throw
- 27:44it. I've got it. It also struck me as one of those things,
- 27:47you know, there are so many jokes when someone just goes through some
- 27:49terrible physical punishment. Yeah, and you hear, then you hear obviously an
- 27:55ad outline. I'm okay, why why are we doing this? Doing it?
- 28:00That's my first WTF moment. More to come dinner with mister Burns.
- 28:04What a waste of my precious, precious Saturday night. I fun with your
- 28:08boyfriend. She is not my boy friend. He goes outside, He takes
- 28:14him on the private plane. There was a really weird moment here, right
- 28:15when he first sees the private plane. Okay, now, did you watch
- 28:18this on Disney Right? So I watched on Disney Plus on the TV last
- 28:22night, right, and you must have saw what I saw because he says
- 28:26private plane, private jet, but it says but it says gigig golf stream.
- 28:30I watched it on my laptop this morning. Again, as he says,
- 28:33gig gig golf stream. Oh, what the hell? I washed it
- 28:37on my TV. The subtitle says gigig golf stream, but he says private
- 28:41plane on my laptop. He says gig golf stream. Okay, now I'm
- 28:47confused. That is so weird, right, that is odd. It's just
- 28:49I could not wrap my head. What the hell happened? I thought?
- 28:53Did I dream that last night? I was like, what the hell?
- 28:59The only notion that I can come up with is that golf stream is like
- 29:04a private label. Or something. The golf stream is a plane. It's
- 29:07not a plane, right, But why would if I'm watching Disney Plus in
- 29:11the same house I save internet watching on my TV him say put up a
- 29:15private plane. Oh here it says golf stream. Oh no, I'm very
- 29:17confused. That's what I'm confused about. No, No, that's I'm equally
- 29:19confused about that. I was trying to make sense the first of all,
- 29:22the first thing where you know, there was the disparity, but yeah,
- 29:25that whole it being one thing on the TV and one thing on your laptop.
- 29:30That is confusing when the subtitles are still the same on I just it
- 29:33was so bizarre. If you can let us know and listeners out there,
- 29:37Simpsons mail bag at gmail dot com, why does the subtitle say golf stream
- 29:41but he says put up a private plane? Or Mark Kirkland let us know.
- 29:44Yeah, when you're watching on Disney Plus on the TV, but then
- 29:47watch it on your laptop and he Homer says, put up a private plane.
- 29:49It must be the different audio versions. I don't know. I don't
- 29:53know what's going on, but you know what, it annoys me. That
- 29:56means it must be must be multiple multiple audio tracks, which means add the
- 29:59fucking coentaries. You have the ability to do this. At the commentaries,
- 30:03You've got him angry. There's absolutely no reason for streaming services not to have
- 30:07the commentaries for movies on their streaming services. Right if you're offering us German,
- 30:11French and all these other ones, give us the audio commentaries, yes
- 30:15or yeah. If you're not going to do that, Major media companies get
- 30:21a little more robust with your physical media. You know, actually release more,
- 30:25cancel it, don't cancel it, don't wear house it, put it
- 30:27in shops, put commentary tracks and behind the scenes documentaries and all that kind
- 30:33of stuff. Make it something that we want to buy, like our pals
- 30:34at Umbrella. I'm telling you, Disney Plus, if you put the Simpsons
- 30:37commentaries on your streaming service, it would be a game changer. You would
- 30:41get so many more subscribers. People would lose their minds. They'd be so
- 30:45happy because people keep the David sets because they want the commentaries and things like
- 30:48that. Put the commentaries on Disney Plus. Please make it happen. And
- 30:52then when you do it, I can say I was the reason that you
- 30:53did it. This is the only reason the glory, but he gets offered
- 30:59soon she on the plane. You can't believe it from Svetlana. He'll do
- 31:03anything. Yeah, call me, by the way. What are yours on
- 31:08deep dish pizza Chicago style? I've never had the Chicago style Deep dish was
- 31:12like a pie. I prefer thick base. I know you're a thin based
- 31:17guy. No, no, no, I mean I'd like a thick based
- 31:18one because I mean, we're here in Geelong. I think we've name checked
- 31:21these guys in the past, Pizzas with Attitude and two thousands in name.
- 31:25It's sort of poocha, even the logo. But it's like when you've committed
- 31:27your logo for like twenty five years. Everyone knows that logo. You can't
- 31:30sort of change it. No, no, it sort of goes full circles.
- 31:33If they change the pizza of a Erguy logo, I'd be so sad.
- 31:36I think so it's part of the charm is for a while ago.
- 31:38That's a bit cringe, And I can't believe we've got a lot of pizzas
- 31:41with attitude. It's weird. They right, because if they change the logo,
- 31:42your brave would automakely think that the pizzas probably tastes different as well.
- 31:45Yeah, because it's always going to look the same. That's why when you
- 31:48go to a milk barney, it's going to have the same fucking Peter's ice
- 31:51cream thing signs out the front from like nineteen eighty four. It's like there's
- 31:53something about the taste from this place that's right. But pizza without it you
- 31:57do a fairly thick crust piece. I'm assuming it is a kin to the
- 32:01Chicago deep dish pie. I know Chicago's like pie like this thing, like
- 32:06super thick, like super thick of a slice of like with a knife.
- 32:07Okay, so I a cake. I'm thinking I could be wrong. That's
- 32:12what I've been told. It's like eating a cake pie. Oh wow,
- 32:14yeah, Chicago style. Let's have a look Chicago style deep dish because I've
- 32:19always wanted to try, because you know, I love me some pizza.
- 32:21Get look at this so I can't really turn this. No, no,
- 32:24I'm gonna get google Chicago Style deep Dish and go to images. It literally
- 32:28looks like a keiche. Yeah you're too young to remember this, I'm sure,
- 32:31but there was a book yeah called Real Men Dont Keese. Did you
- 32:37do know this was in the eighties. It was like, it sounds like
- 32:38Simpsons and seven. Have you looked it up? Goo? A deep dish
- 32:45pizza? God, damn have you not looked it up yet? That's that's
- 32:50a thick pad. Yes, that is actually a pie. You know what
- 32:52I mean. It's not just thick crust. It's just a genuine keish really
- 32:55hungry now I was, I'm like, I really want to eat this.
- 33:00Well, okay, a pizza with attitude. Pizza is maybe half the thickness
- 33:05of that. Yeah, maybe a little bit less than that maybe. But
- 33:07what we in a show called Fixed Slights of Pizza is what pizza of a
- 33:09They just get it and they throw the toppings on. It's thick, it's
- 33:12it's delicious, it's delightful. Pieces of Attitude. Friends of the Pot should
- 33:16be come on board. We want free pizza. They used to be when
- 33:20we first started. The local one here was Friends of the Pod. We
- 33:22should get the original because the original Pieces of Attitude in Gelong and there's one
- 33:25in Heightened now as well. Oh yeah, they did the Crazy John they
- 33:30expanded, Yes, much much like My Belly Pizza's Pieces of attitude, support
- 33:37the show. We're excited. I'm going to throw this to them. Okay,
- 33:43so what were we talking about? Chicago pizza. Yes, they ripe
- 33:45in chicar But yeah, they're on the they're on the flights that Lana's offering
- 33:49sushi. Homie just being I don't know, I'm aroused and confused. Oh
- 33:53no, but the whole thing, we're on a plane stupid. Yeah,
- 33:58it's such lame, right, isn't it. It kind of we just have
- 34:00to start calling this now that is just shit writing. Yeah, it's just
- 34:05it's Homer is such a jerk. Yeah, and Homer's not so dumb that
- 34:09he's going to insult his boss in the space, particularly when they're on a
- 34:13private plane that you know, mister Burns is paying for. Homer's supposed to
- 34:15be scared of mister Burns. Yeah, he's the boss. Right when you
- 34:19got Homer called mister Burns stupid and mister Burn's does nothing about it. That's
- 34:22what's wrong with the with the right, it's diffusing all the character interaction and
- 34:25then and then episode six of the season, you probably have mister Burns being
- 34:29this tyrant and everyone's scared of him again and you're thinking, where's the consistency
- 34:31here? How did Homer get away with calling him an idiot to his face?
- 34:35Yes? And why did Burns not care? That's what pissed me up
- 34:37the most. If in season one or two, if Homer called him stupid,
- 34:42he'd get, you know, dropped down the little shoot in his office
- 34:44or something. Yeah, Homer should be afraid to the point where but a
- 34:46plane or something like that, you know, maybe not quite that dumb,
- 34:51but not just amuly being a jerk. Yeah. And then when he's with
- 34:54his family or at Moe's or something like lousy bus or geese stupid. Yeah,
- 35:00all that kind of stuff. That's when that's when you grasp the bosses
- 35:01is what I do? The lovely Louise bloody damn did we change in recording
- 35:06schedule. We're in the House of unwellness today. Yeah. I just had
- 35:12a big coughing and I'll probably not as well. You know, I don't
- 35:17speak. I'm going to cough. And guys like, hey, this so
- 35:20Dad, it is Dad. He is cuffed. More work of za put
- 35:23put put a clip in there, Dad. Guy Zacha edited a message me
- 35:29and he was like, can you please leave that incau. It's hilarious that
- 35:30guys trying to teach you how to edit the podcast. That's how I left
- 35:34it in so you can hear the confusion on your face through your voices.
- 35:42I could visualize your face in that moment, going did he just do that?
- 35:45What the hell? I wasn't bothered, but I was just like,
- 35:47I know it just me or three mind after five years doing the show in
- 35:55the moment, it's not. I was talking some of our podcast have you
- 35:58listened to this thing? And when it was that happening? So I was
- 36:00like, probably could be there. And then when I say, you're like
- 36:04it was the first off had the gust to say something. But yeah,
- 36:08let us talking. Sife the Virgin episode is available right now on our Patreon
- 36:12if you want to hear a guy get totally embarrassed to this show every week.
- 36:20But yeah, so on the plane, sot Lina's there, then they
- 36:22watching scratchy line of Richie rocks up and he says, say, you say,
- 36:23maybe he replaces me with beer. I believe it was fine. Yeah,
- 36:29that's what it was. I didn't mind. Now I forgot the lyrics,
- 36:30you know, but it just felt like, hey, Linel Richie's around.
- 36:34Let's just shoehorn him into the episode, and you know they would have
- 36:37had Linel Ritchie this week on The Simpsons. Hey, by the way,
- 36:39also Stephen Colbert on The Simpsons. No, why don't you listen to the
- 36:45musical standings of mister Lionel Richie? Oh my god, Lionel Richie? Can
- 36:49you sing? Say you say me? But make it about beer? Sure?
- 36:52I guess, Hey you bear me, bear me for always. That's
- 36:59the way it should be. Hey, you beer me beer us together naturally.
- 37:07No, make every word beer beer beer beer beer beer beer beer beer
- 37:15beer. Wait, I forget the words. Ah, they landed Chicago home.
- 37:21Doesn't want to get the plan because he would have felt like a regular
- 37:22person. Mister trivia question, what's that? What was the plane's call sign?
- 37:28Something five to three or something? Yeah, November five, four to
- 37:30three, Charlie four three, Charlie. What do you think of Lana saying
- 37:34love you as he gets off the plane? No point to it, Yeah,
- 37:37no point to it, and her mouse didn't move, so it's obviously
- 37:37something' added in later They're gone, we need to throw something in here.
- 37:40Love you? What that? Why? Yeah? I don't know. I
- 37:44think the extracted to get him off the plane. Then it's just them going
- 37:46through Chicago. Different signs yet the fairest Bueller, frest Bueller's Day of Beauty.
- 37:52Yes, and then they go to the Ferres and Cameron. Yes,
- 37:55they go to the Improv which is dead Castlenetta and Stephen Colbert apparently both got
- 38:01their start at Second City, did they? Ah? Okay? Well,
- 38:05deck Asen it was the actual person here. Ah, he was the one
- 38:07hosting. Yeah, that was down there, a drunk of billionaire Starbucks in
- 38:12Siberia. I thought I liked the piss take of improv in Siberia. But
- 38:17Homer, actually I should have put this one of my favorite bits because he
- 38:21really did speak for all of us, and personally, I have respect that
- 38:28I respect for certain things when they've done well. Improv is one of them.
- 38:30It's often not done well. And I came here to relax. You
- 38:36think of it? Why are you pointing? We wrote it. We wrote
- 38:38that that's great. I thought that was very, very runny. But Second
- 38:42City is apparently well. It's ramtation speaks for itself. But I imagine that
- 38:46for every Dan Sea or Stephen Sea that has come out of Second City,
- 38:51one hundred ninety nine baristas in Siberia. Yes, do you say barista?
- 38:57I say barista, I say barrister, but only when I'm in court.
- 39:00Yes, while, uh so, while that while you were here, we
- 39:04felt like New York. They structed. Then drops her off from home.
- 39:07He smells like Chicago. That was actually kind of funny, because, yeah,
- 39:09the Chicago, well, hence the name Second City. Yes, Homer,
- 39:15you smell like Chicago. Did you fly there in a commercial airline?
- 39:20No way commercial. It's for loosers and terrorists. I flew on a private
- 39:23plane. Wow. Is it much different from a normal plane. Please tell
- 39:29me you're joking. It's the difference between champagne and carbonated Peaie, what's wrong?
- 39:36I hit it all for one night. Now for the rest of my
- 39:38life, I'll know what I'm missing, and all I have to remember it
- 39:40by is that my ears haven't popped. Well, I'll make sure that I
- 39:45never yawn. I guess, hey, Homer. Homer arrives, and he
- 39:52lets the cast smash through the house because he's depressed and sad. And then
- 39:54a fresh face arrives and apparently marches high Kobe Krauss to get his life on
- 39:59track, and I've gone, wtf as Marche done this? What a pointless
- 40:04this? This is such lazy writing. How can we get him into his
- 40:06life? Marge is just gonna help him home and get his life back on
- 40:07track. His life wasn't off the track. He just needs to get out,
- 40:12wake up to himself. Just a bit glum anyway, but makes a
- 40:15joke about his body double being Uncle Fester, so he hits him because the
- 40:19cameras aren't on yet. How do you feel about actual slaps on the back
- 40:22of the head versus the traditional choking, because I was kind of like,
- 40:25I mean, that's not necessarily a w TWEF moment or a you'll die by
- 40:29suicide moment, but it's I just think hits in general just past it now
- 40:32as well. But the choking just felt so cartoonish that it wasn't a fence
- 40:37but say send him, hit him. It just felt like, oh,
- 40:37you're just assulting him now. But they you know, he says, do
- 40:40what you normally do, and he doesn't know what to do, so he
- 40:43just shows him relish trade for insurance purposes, doesn't I didn't get that I
- 40:46needed to die, I'm sure there's a reason doesn't want to put the socks
- 40:49on though, because he's gonna have to take him off in a week.
- 40:51Yeah. So we're reaching the stage where jokes, well not even reaching where
- 40:54things like that are being recycled, I mean homes homes and said, what's
- 40:58the point of going out? We're only going to come back home? Yeah,
- 41:00which is really the perfect better than that, the perfect version of that
- 41:02jokes everyone can relate to. Yeah, you feel like they were sitting in
- 41:06the writer's room, you know, he had these very very smart people gong.
- 41:10Okay, what's the perfect distillation of that feeling when it's like why clean
- 41:15the windows? They're only going to get dirty again. We need to find
- 41:19the exact right way to phrase it, and like, why go out when
- 41:22we're only going to go home again? That nailed it. That's the best
- 41:23way it really is. And it's just home is a slub white with socks
- 41:28on. And he says, remember the NDC's never don't concentrate and what was
- 41:32this? So Bart then kicks him in the ass and he says, do
- 41:35you want to get a better shot of that? And he says, I
- 41:36want to get some background noise and It's like four seconds of just nothing.
- 41:40I was just WTF. I've got my notes? Yeah, what is going
- 41:45on here? He's putting stables into his own head? Yeah? What does
- 41:50this have to do with being sad about? She asked? What is the
- 41:53point of this episode? What is the actual point? I imagine the Simpsons
- 41:58movie was quite successful, and they've got eighteen years of a successful show behind
- 42:00them, so hey, let's go for the nineteen. Anyway, was now
- 42:05at the Bowling Alley and he realizes here that this is where he thrives.
- 42:07Yes, he's very much Fred Flintstone twickle toes. Yeah he was. He
- 42:12was in his element at the bowling Alley. What is now the equivalent of
- 42:15the bowling Alley now because that was the internet? Yeah, well where a
- 42:20guy goes to sort of be this element. It's not the pub, really
- 42:22is It's not the bullying is there because we have bowling alleys new But people
- 42:25don't really go that's hanging out with the boys anymore, you know. No,
- 42:29No, I mean there's an article in the I forgot which paper,
- 42:32but talking about the necessity for the third space, which we don't really have
- 42:37anymore. So, I mean people work home and somewhere people go home,
- 42:39they go to work, and you've got to have that place where you hang
- 42:42out, where you do nothing your mos. Yeah, and you know there
- 42:45are places like that, like coffee shops in that, but they've also been
- 42:50by barristers, people sitting at the laptops like you, why are you working
- 42:57in my coffee shop? I meant a sipo lato do funk all yeah,
- 43:00and I'm gonna be noisy. How do you expect to write the wrote Australian
- 43:05novel here? Or you know, balance is spreadshipt? Your balance of spreadshirt?
- 43:07I don't know. I've got no idea spread them? What was that
- 43:13is there? An Adam said? Spread notes? It's get them Rex,
- 43:15isn't it? What's the what was that one? Skidding? Rex? It
- 43:19wasundies yes, and it was ants and the answer crawling all over shall I
- 43:25say mound? Yeah, answer crawl all over this woman's areas. And then
- 43:31she had a little land eat called Rex sick and Rex and then Rex just
- 43:35went to work and she smiled and it's like, oh, hey, you
- 43:37know, you knew you become a man when you understood that commercial. And
- 43:43then you meet a girl who said Rex I'm gonta marry that guy. But
- 43:47this is where Homer, he know, he's just he is in his element.
- 43:51Now. Actually we've got a WT moment to mentioned here. So this
- 43:53is where he says, you need to get bowling Ali Homer to every Day
- 43:55Homer, right, bullying Ali Homer to every Day Hammer. And Lenny will
- 44:00and he goes just like my aunt who is now an uncle. No one
- 44:01says anything, and his walks off, and I'm thinking, what happened to
- 44:05Lenny? You've fucked Lenny. Lenny used to be the character that everyone felt
- 44:08in the Golden Ear. I'm probably more like Lennon and anyone else. He
- 44:12just feels like the guy that's just like the pal. You know, he
- 44:14seems like a good guy. You know, he's probably a bit of a
- 44:16bit of an easy beat, but you know, he just seems lovable.
- 44:19He's always there for you. Now he's just his widow. There's this weird
- 44:22relationship with Carl and he's cruel to the kids, and it's just what's going
- 44:27on? What the fuck happened with Lenny? It's just you ruined. You
- 44:30knew the Simpsons had gone downhill when you fucked up Lenny. Lenny was unfuckable
- 44:32and you fucked him. Fuck that up. I don't know. I was
- 44:37just this moment here, just let me go on what has happened to Lenny?
- 44:39No Lenny that we get the montage and Homer wearing his bowling shoes,
- 44:45and then I went, wait a minute, it's not a montage. It's
- 44:46just stapling correctly and having sex with March. It goes second, Yeah,
- 44:50it's and that's it. And I wonder, yeah, I wonder how many
- 44:53scenes it takes to constitute a montage. I think reny seconds, because this
- 44:59was what two or three It was two clips that go for about less than
- 45:01ten seconds in total. Okay, so it was a stapling and the second
- 45:05that's it. Yeah, that's it. The shoes needed to play a bigger
- 45:08part in the in the story you're right on with. He wears the shoes,
- 45:13feels confident, loses the shoes, loses self confidence, realize she would
- 45:16have realized that the shoes were in him all along. Yeah, it's like
- 45:20this Michael Special stuff in space jam Oh in like Mike Oh spiralte space.
- 45:23You know when they give them that you probably forgot. We did it for
- 45:25the movie guys. But they bugs band against the water bottle and it's Michael
- 45:30special stuff and they think, yeah, I'm a good basketball player. There's
- 45:32like it was just water. It was in you all along. Just watch
- 45:37Space Jam and make this it was there. I love Dano doing his It
- 45:43sounded like Williams. It was in you on the lone. That would have
- 45:47been a casting choice William Shatner instead of it could have been Wayne Knight's character.
- 45:52Wouldn't have worked, but it would have been a choice. It's such
- 45:55a random mishmash that cast Wayne Knight, Billorry, Michael Jordan, good movie.
- 46:04Home of Those Splace Jam a new legacy. He just randomly. Now
- 46:07I've got how and why are all these companies now wanting to hire Homer?
- 46:09What? How? Why? What has he done? Here's the thing though,
- 46:15again sort of a WTF moments? What's his name? Kobe Kraus.
- 46:19Yes, I've found all that. I've found all these places that want to
- 46:22hire you. You assume that he's done the work, but not these places
- 46:23are not. These people are coming to Colby and saying, we hear good
- 46:28things about this homeless Simpson. We'd like to give him a job. Kolby's
- 46:30clearly done some work here and later on I'm not very good at this,
- 46:35It's like, but you actually are not bad at it? All the fuck
- 46:38is going on? I don't know man to bring me in here today,
- 46:42man, but handyman's choice. He picks them because they've got the plane.
- 46:45The publicly apparently the whole story of this is he wants to about what he's
- 46:49hooked on private planes. But it's just so shit. But that's not actually
- 46:52the story. Yeah, I mean, that's not the story. Again,
- 46:55I'm going to ding play Devil's advocate. I like the idea of I've flown
- 47:02on a private I've flown on a private plane. Everything else is going to
- 47:06seem kind of lackluster as a result. Now you've got to keep it in
- 47:09the background as like, oh, I wouldn't be gratify I could fly in
- 47:13a private plane all the time and maybe happen as a little bit of motif
- 47:15throughout the episode, you know, he's constantly looking up in the air,
- 47:19or he's sort of he's he's seen how the other half lives. Yeah,
- 47:22I mean, I think that's an I think that's a concept that everyone can
- 47:24relate to. But eventually it's it's not a matter of sort of like settling
- 47:30for what you've got, but being satisfied, knowing love the world you're with,
- 47:34Yeah, lovely, knowing what you're can achieve, finding satisfaction and fulfillment
- 47:38in the life that you have, being realistic and being realistic as well.
- 47:42Set goals, go for them by all means, but don't base your whole
- 47:45life around that. I mean that, I think that's the lesson that you
- 47:46should have maybe picked up by the end. Did he but think learns lessons?
- 47:51In season nineteen, I think we're passed Homer learning lessons. I think
- 47:53it's just being how to cannibal. But then Colby calls Burns to say he's
- 47:59gonna be working for him anymore, and it's like, okay, so the
- 48:01phone's still inside him, except how did he send it to voicemail? He's
- 48:05sort of pointing, putting a stick down his throat, So do we know
- 48:08if he's actually quit or not or the fuck knows? Man? So he
- 48:13apparently you think he gets the job, but I like a little bait and
- 48:15switch there where you think he's got the job but he hasn't, So we
- 48:19get the others you tried there because they thought he was going to fail,
- 48:22and he didn't. And timas first day and he drives past the place and
- 48:24he goes to Krusty Beer and you're like, oh, I see he didn't
- 48:28get the job. I thought the joke was just going to be he couldn't
- 48:30write his name. Ah, so if you can write your name and I
- 48:32can read it, you've got the job. And then he did hold it
- 48:36in such a terrible word. It's like him yes, But so I thought
- 48:38that that could have been just a joke in itself. It's like he didn't
- 48:40he couldn't even do that. And here's the point, or here's the thing.
- 48:44He's become so confident this stage, that becomes overconfident, and that's when
- 48:47he calls someone an authority an idiot as opposed to being on the plane.
- 48:52You can't read Homer's terrible handwriting, it's Homer, you idiot, and doesn't
- 48:57get the job. As a result, maybe this this podcast can now be
- 49:00us fixing the episodes, making them watchable. I didn't think. I didn't.
- 49:06It didn't quite fit with the episode. But it was a nicely sort
- 49:08of put together moment where he's like, give me a coffee and all those
- 49:12mazes and he sort of does the same. And the music they used was
- 49:15like, oh, this is actually a bit touching. It's from something that
- 49:19music I'm sure. Well I can't remember the exact music, but it's yeah,
- 49:23one it's not clear to learn as no, I don't know anyway,
- 49:27So it was embarrassed and we've all I mean, there have been so many
- 49:31stories about people who have either been laid off, laid off or didn't get
- 49:36the job that they thought they were going to get, but they're too ashamed
- 49:38to tell their partner, and so they go somewhere all day and just do
- 49:43nothing or apply for other jobs in the meantime. And it makes him more
- 49:45relatable here because he writes something. He's like, look happy, you know,
- 49:47So there's there's there's a story. We always say there's a story here
- 49:51somewhere, but you just obviously didn't have enough time resources. I don't know.
- 49:55But he lies to them, tells and he's had a great day.
- 49:58Babah blah. I did my job and way consistent with what I already told
- 50:00you. Well that was not a bad line. Yeah, but you go
- 50:02to Krusty Bergger the next day and all the schoolkids are there because they got
- 50:06kicked out of the pettings or something because I don't rode the total naked or
- 50:08something whatever. Then they get the freak fry freak fry look out different you
- 50:15you die of suicide. I don't know if I'm happy with this being a
- 50:22joke in a Simpson's episode with kids. I don't know. Maybe I'm just
- 50:25being becoming a Karen. But I'm just watching this going You're becoming a Darren.
- 50:30Yeah, I'm becoming a Darren. But the thing is I'm looking at
- 50:32through twenty twenty four eyes. True, that's the thing, but still it
- 50:37rubbed me the wrong way hearing the words suicide. I get where you're coming
- 50:39from. I didn't think it was necessarily a funny joke. That doesn't think
- 50:44if it's funny, I can go with it. But it wasn't even funny.
- 50:46I wasn't annoyed by. I just thought, really that's what you went
- 50:49with. Go with something more funny, but yeah, less inflammatory. Yeah,
- 50:53I thought, just did the Wishblane thing where just like make a wish
- 50:55and have now some punishment to go with the go with the classics. He
- 51:01explains to Barty that he didn't get the job, and busses, we need
- 51:05to tell it because you've been buying brand name groceries and things like that,
- 51:07and also the eye poking whatever. Yeah. Yeah, I'm trying to determine
- 51:13if these jokes are no good by themselves or they're perfectly okay gags that would
- 51:17work in an episode that was generally better. I watched this episode twice because
- 51:22the first time I watched it, I went, that was not good.
- 51:23I watched it again the second time, and I went, it wasn't much
- 51:25better than what I thought that the first time around. Okay, Yeah,
- 51:29sometimes I watch it late at night and I think maybe I was just tired.
- 51:30I watched it again this morning, and he was still tired. I
- 51:32was still tired, you know, be cause my dad. But still I
- 51:35just thought this episode just wasn't wasn't up to scratch for a season premiere,
- 51:38let's put it that way. But he explains why he got fired because he
- 51:43was just why did he get fired? Again? He was, yeah,
- 51:45he didn't know anything about do you know anything about copee you? Yeah,
- 51:47just give me the joke, yes, and just doesn't go to plan.
- 51:51Yeah, and he sort of man handles the rich Texan. So he calls
- 51:53Marge to tell her the truth. This may be sad, I should never
- 51:58get my hopes of because nothing ever works out for us. Something don't remind
- 52:00us. Yeah, because that's the truth. It makes her life feel miserable.
- 52:06I don't want to feel miserable for Marge. No, we know that
- 52:08things don't necessarily go right for her, but for her to acknowledge it like
- 52:10so outly you went, man, Her life isn't great, is it.
- 52:14No, she's just like a broken, beaten down Yeah, just been given
- 52:19up, downtrodden by life. Not good anchor of a human being that she's
- 52:23aligned herself. Yeah. So she lies, and Homo lies and says that
- 52:27the company wants them to take the private plane to New York. And he
- 52:30pays this guy to take margage to the air and says, semper fudge,
- 52:32which is from what well the Marines logo was simplified, Yeah, which I
- 52:37believe means always faithful. And they've said super fudge on The Simpsons before.
- 52:40I'm like, oh, you're going with that gig again, super fudge.
- 52:45The last thing I want to do is get the wrath of any Marines out
- 52:49there, So I'm going to find out what sympathy actually means. Frank yak
- 52:52and type fudge. It means always faithful. I was right, Yeah,
- 52:58yes, it doesn't happen here. The then just my motto should be semper
- 53:00fudge. At that point he told me to relax. It was Larry Burns
- 53:05h When they get they have them sort of like, you know, mister
- 53:08Bens brings in the people to say, what can you do with him?
- 53:10So they've used the separate fudge joke before, again rehashing jokes, just not
- 53:15in a good way. Not in a good way. No, So he
- 53:17takes them to the air. The pilot has a heroin overdose. I'm like,
- 53:21what is happening? Yeah, I don't think it was flying today,
- 53:22So now I took some heroin? Was that ever funny? In the writer's
- 53:27room, how was that funny? I think they're probably like, I don't
- 53:30care about over I'm not offended. Again, that's not funny. I imagine
- 53:34their reminders like, oh you hear about pilots being drunk. That I imagine
- 53:37if one was high on heroin? What not funny? Homer takes over.
- 53:43I did like the what's the ocean doing in the sky and he takes over
- 53:46calls. Kobe reveals here that he's not very a good life coach. He's
- 53:51got a microwave dinner, and then he almost crashed into the blimp, successfully
- 53:55lands the plane and then drives into the water because he has the taxi to
- 53:59the term all. Then he says he's going to beg Burns for his job
- 54:01back and I thought, oh, this is like the first time forever they've
- 54:04actually knows he's going to go back to Burns for his job. Marj being
- 54:07a real doormat. Yeah, and Lisa is saying, maybe we can put
- 54:10some of the extra money aside, and he's like, no, you'd think
- 54:13so, but no, not gonna happen. I smirk slightly. You'd think
- 54:16so, but no. I mean it's a real escape hatch line. And
- 54:21Lionel Richie is weighing them down because he's holding on to his American Music Awards.
- 54:24And that's the end of the episode and season premiere. Not great.
- 54:29This is what season nineteen is gonna give us. I'm not looking forward to
- 54:31it. I'm looking forward to a bit of that. There's gonna be good
- 54:34ones in there. I know they can't. This wasn't a terrible episode.
- 54:37It was just I'm going it was already blah. I just felt like,
- 54:40you've got his premise here, Why are you doing more with it? Yes?
- 54:44And I don't know when you start a race, Yes, you want
- 54:46to start on the right foot. This was not what do we learn,
- 54:50Bomber? I learned that American music awards are quite heavy, especially you have
- 54:55a few of them. But us did I learn? I learned Chicago diep
- 54:58dish piece. There's like a keish, but real men don't ekecies. That's
- 55:01what I like all that. Lionel Richie is very open to rewriting his lyrics.
- 55:07Yes for the fans. I also one of the Crazy Johns had six
- 55:09hundred stores at one point in Australia. Vota Phone stepped in. Yes,
- 55:15stam Vodaphone, d forward, your name will be all right. It is
- 55:20time for the first edition of the New Name Championship for season nineteen, the
- 55:24Guy Davis New Name Championship. Of course, as always, I sent through
- 55:29the list to Guy. He picks his best ones. And what happened is
- 55:32something happened a bit more often now, Guy, So we're going to change
- 55:35the rules a little bit here for the Guy Davis New Name Championship, because
- 55:37otherwise it was becoming in it was it possible it was going to become the
- 55:40Philip J. Horbens. That's what happens. This is what happened. The
- 55:44guy sent me through the three one two three, and they're all from the
- 55:45same person. So I went, look, we can't have that, all
- 55:50right, so pick the highest one. So basically what the rule is going
- 55:52to be now is pick two. You can now send in two entries,
- 55:54because otherwise they're going to get eight entries from one person and one person from
- 55:59one from another and doesn't seem fair to do it that way. I know
- 56:00you're putting in the effort, but pick your two best ones a maximum of
- 56:05two, maximum of two, because otherwise we just get guy picking the same
- 56:08person over and over again. This week. It wasn't actually Philip JA Hawgan's
- 56:12getting the same one over and over again. It's actually somebody else. So
- 56:14sending your two best entries and hopefully one of those gets selected for the New
- 56:17Dame Championship and saying that, mister Davis, what were your three to two
- 56:22one four? This week? Uh? One point goes to Private Fly That
- 56:28would be first time ever in the New Name Championship. Matt Collins, well
- 56:30done, Hello, Matt Collins, enjoy your point. I've got Mac Collings
- 56:35in here. That's Matt Collins. See I'm looking on on Facebook. It's
- 56:37Mac Collins, not Collings. I'll change it now in my New Name leader
- 56:39board, Matt Collins, well done. So well you got a point,
- 56:44but you also get insolved by Dando again, which is worth a point in
- 56:46itself. Number two number two, two points goes to Ready gets it.
- 56:52That is Philip j. Hawkins. Oh he's back. Yes, so two
- 56:59points for Philip Jay Hawkins there, which means it's a new number three this
- 57:01week. Oh my gosh. Kick off the season with a bang. Who's
- 57:04number three? Three points goes to saving Private Flying. Now this guy here
- 57:10a bit of a dark horse last season, he was coming home with a
- 57:14bang. It's Adam Woolhouse. I feel like Philip Jay's got some competition this
- 57:17season. Oh you're gonna get woolhoused. Yes, so girl, Old Woolhouse.
- 57:22Adam Wolhouse on three, Philip Jay Hawkens on two, Matt Collins on
- 57:24one. Don't forget guys going forward sending two entries. Pick you two best
- 57:29ones and hopefully they get selected by guy. And remember he doesn't see the
- 57:31names before he selects the actual title. So pick your two best ones and
- 57:35hopefully he picks one of them. Damn, it won't show me. No
- 57:38bail is here. Okay, mister Davis, it is time for the mail
- 57:44bag. Let's open it up. First question comes from our man, Andrew
- 57:49JP, still with US season nineteen. Well, I did name check him
- 57:52in the actual Oh did you? That would be? What? So?
- 57:55Most favorite and least favorite talk show hosts for him? Most favorite is a
- 58:00tie between Conan and Craig Ferguson, which is what I agree with. Least
- 58:02favorite James Corden, which is what I agree with. Andrew JP is speaking
- 58:07our language here. Yeah, I don't think many of us are fans of
- 58:09Cordon. I haven't seen a whole lot of his actual talk show. I've
- 58:15seen a bit of carpool Carriok. That's his right, That's just that's what
- 58:17it is. It's all yeah, sticks, it's the same of Falon Now.
- 58:20It's all just fake laughing and skits. Yeah, he did song miming
- 58:24or something, wasn't it like mimming rap or something, yeah, which I
- 58:27didn't mind. It had some really fallon, got some good ones on that.
- 58:30Yeah. But then it gets to a pot me and go, oh
- 58:31this is all it is. Now, it's just celebrity stunt. This is
- 58:35all you do. Okay, So you you're just your pals with This is
- 58:38the thing. The best talk show hosts are best friends with the guests.
- 58:43No, look at let Himan for example, right, let him was great
- 58:45because he didn't give a fuck mate, you know if we didn't like it,
- 58:49let you know. Yeah, and he would be genuinely contemptuous of people
- 58:52who he thought, why are you won my show? And I think people
- 58:54respected that, Oh yeah yeah. And to be Fallon you watch half the
- 58:59time think I don't think they respect Falon at all. No, I don't
- 59:02know what was k fable not. There's a the company, No, a
- 59:07great fucking David copany bit is a clip on YouTube where it's Jimmy Fallon every
- 59:13time he fake laughs, right, and it's one with the company is telling
- 59:15a story and Falon just goes and hits it. He hits the desk and
- 59:19Tommy's laughing and the company is just looking at me and going, you can
- 59:22let me finished. That wasn't the funny bit. You just look at me.
- 59:24You can see all the cogs in his head going, what the Fuck's
- 59:27up with this guy? It's just it's great. It's worth checking that out.
- 59:30I will check that out. There's the bit that I was thinking of
- 59:32is when he had Steve Martin and Martin short On and Martin short Well,
- 59:38he seems like a very very nice guy, but also someone who does take
- 59:42a bit of pleasure and sinking the show. Yeah, he seems a bit
- 59:44of a bit. And he said something like, so Fallon, Yeah,
- 59:47he said this, Fallin something like, you're the best on late night talk
- 59:52talk shows because no one pretends to care as much as well as you do.
- 59:57It's like, this could go either way. It could be KFA,
- 1:00:05but it also could be that they were discussing the backstage Yeah, but they
- 1:00:08were also I was actually quite pastoral of the whole lip syncing challenge then.
- 1:00:15I mean, everyone seemed to You've got a whole generation of young women who
- 1:00:19seem to love Tom Holland doing Rihanna's umbrella because it was a very yeah,
- 1:00:23stylized choreograph thing, and he was dressed in drag, and all that kind
- 1:00:28of things like, oh they were young hero. It was right time,
- 1:00:30right place because it was the new version of a talk show host, where
- 1:00:32so the Internet was sort of still growing things like that, and we went
- 1:00:37quite with YouTube shorts. That wasn't a thing yet, TikTok wasn't a thing,
- 1:00:39but we started realizing, oh, we like people like watching things in
- 1:00:43bits. Now They're not going to sit there and watch a six minute interview
- 1:00:45with you know, Jimmy Fallon talk, but they watch Jimmy Fallon doing a
- 1:00:49skit. YEA. When I think of Fellon though, there's a there was
- 1:00:52a bit where he had Nicole Kidman on and Cole Kipman was kind of like,
- 1:00:53oh, I had a bit of a crushing it, said Jim,
- 1:00:55and Jim's like what. And you compare that with a bit with Kinnon and
- 1:00:59O'Brien when they're doing the sucking blow thing. Have you ever seen there's you
- 1:01:02know, that game Sucking Blow where you've got a bit of paper and you
- 1:01:05you've got to test yeah, and someone will basically kiss you and suck it
- 1:01:08off your off your face and it's the modeling actor Rebecca remain a bout the
- 1:01:16time that she was in the X Men. The tall statue was blonde,
- 1:01:19just gorgeous, and they're doing and she goes to do it with Conan,
- 1:01:23and Conan is sort of like really leaning in for a kiss, like he's
- 1:01:28really over and he's playing it. He's doing the sort of dopey kind of
- 1:01:30it, like why would anyone go for this tall, lanky, redhead goofers,
- 1:01:35And then she gives him an actual, like just just a quick kiss
- 1:01:37and the slow burn that he has where he's kind of like, oh,
- 1:01:42did that just happen? Did that just happen? He's like dumb struck.
- 1:01:45And then he's like yeah and picking up a chair and throwing it around and
- 1:01:52no one, no one expected. I mean you can tell that she's just
- 1:01:54like, oh my god, he's really just going so well. Yeah,
- 1:01:58Andrew JP is right, Conan is great. But for someone in my era,
- 1:02:00I remember seeing some Carson when I was a kid. Yeah, I
- 1:02:02never had a Carson, and led Himan made me fall in love with talk
- 1:02:06show hosts. Yeah, Letterman was the one for me. And then I
- 1:02:07got older, I thought Conan feels like if I was given my own talk
- 1:02:10show. Very much, it felt like just one of the guys who was
- 1:02:14just like, you have your own show. That's what it felt like when
- 1:02:15it's the great thing, I mean, the great thing about Condan sort of
- 1:02:19the current resurgence I think in the wake of the Hot Ones thing as well,
- 1:02:22and people go out this clip, check out this clip, and there's
- 1:02:24so much imagination in the stuff that he was doing on his on his talk
- 1:02:29track that was very much there apparent to let him and it's, yeah,
- 1:02:31just a damn shame that he got screwed over the way you did. But
- 1:02:37you know, he came out on top. Trust me, he definitely did
- 1:02:39my favorite talk show segment in the last ten years. Maybe I might miss
- 1:02:44me more. I don't know how long it was, but Robin Williams on
- 1:02:46Craig Ferguson show, have you ever seen that? I never have mate,
- 1:02:50So basically it's you know, he's got his Q cards there Ferguson and Robin
- 1:02:52william comes out and they're his best buddies. In her case, No rips
- 1:02:55the Q cars up, throws him away and goes let's just talk, and
- 1:02:58it's just like twenty minutes of these two guys just riffing. Oh, it's
- 1:03:01unbelievable. Like I'm going to send you a link. It's it's it's classic,
- 1:03:06it's it's fucking so good. But yeah, Coonon O'Brian. I remember
- 1:03:08when I watched Conan and let them and host to watch them all the time
- 1:03:10and late night. That's where I learned to interview because I watched these guys
- 1:03:15and I'm going, they're not just talking, they're listening. Oh yeah,
- 1:03:17and the guest is speaking, and you can tell they're listening to what they're
- 1:03:22saying and they're responding to what they're saying. They've probably got questions in front
- 1:03:24of them as a backup, But that's where I learned. Yeah, questions,
- 1:03:27your notes a backup. Just converse with people, you know, when
- 1:03:30you're interviewing somebody. So many times listen to like radio DJs, cut your
- 1:03:35cookie cutter ones and they're just like, oh yeah, cool, and tell
- 1:03:37us about this, oh and what about this one. It's like we're actually
- 1:03:39listening to what they responded to the last one. Listen to what they're saying
- 1:03:42and fucking respond to that. True. Look, there are occasions when you
- 1:03:45know you're part of the PR machine and yeah, you've got to all right,
- 1:03:49we need to cover this, this, this, and this, and
- 1:03:52we've only got a handful of we've only got a short amount of time to
- 1:03:53do that. Just do it at the end. But it's often, yeah,
- 1:03:57often, I mean ninety nine percent of the time better when yeah,
- 1:04:00you're having a legit conversation, and that's often when you'll get really good material.
- 1:04:03I love it. I thrive on when you hear. You can tell
- 1:04:06when you've asked a question and the person who is being interviewed, who you're
- 1:04:11interviewing, has gone. You can tell the gone, that's a good question.
- 1:04:14They might not actually say that's a good question. You can tell their
- 1:04:15thinking in their head. That's what I love. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:04:18and you can tell, I mean if you've done it a few times,
- 1:04:20which you haven't and I have as well. I mean, you'll get people
- 1:04:24who are not necessarily stalling for time, but they'll say that's a good question.
- 1:04:28It's like, yeah, it's not. They don't mean it in the
- 1:04:30way like oh, you've asked me a good question, like oh that's a
- 1:04:33good question, yeah, good question. Yeah. But you can tell when
- 1:04:38they're in pr mod like you said, and when they're just talking to you,
- 1:04:40and that moment when you feel like you've I've got them now, and
- 1:04:43the interview is always better after that moment. Absolutely, it's like you've won
- 1:04:45their respect. That's as an interview. That's just me anyway. I thrive
- 1:04:48on that, all right. Next question here, Harrison McClure. Have either
- 1:04:51of you guys ever been on a work related trip? If so, what
- 1:04:54was the best work related trip? No, I can't say I have.
- 1:04:58I've been on a few. Yeah, y, your job, wasn't it?
- 1:05:00Yeah? Yeah? I mean but Dante Fasco donte Pasco, yeah,
- 1:05:04Rio, yes, yeah, you would tell me yesterday wrote down a limo
- 1:05:09would the guy? Was that work related? That was work related? Yeah?
- 1:05:13Well what I say, Fasco? What an idiot. It's understanding it
- 1:05:16became a fiasco. Maybe it certainly did. But that's a story for another
- 1:05:20time. Yeah, in the mid two thousands. Yeah, I've been running
- 1:05:26about TV for a little while. Is this the true Blood? Guys?
- 1:05:29That was one of them, certainly, because I've got a few trips to
- 1:05:30la Yeah, one to Ireland and one to Africa, which was fantastic,
- 1:05:35right Africa? Yeah? Yeah, but the first one, I mean,
- 1:05:40someone at Disney got in touch and said, oh, you write about TV
- 1:05:45and home entertainment. Yeah, yeah, yeah I do. It was like,
- 1:05:47oh, well, we're having a junk in LA for the home video
- 1:05:50release of The Incredibles, and you know, would you be interested? I'm
- 1:05:54like, what something like doing some phone of yours? Oh no, no,
- 1:05:57no, We'll fly you to LA and you can sit it on these
- 1:05:59things will fly you. Is like three ways you always want to hear,
- 1:06:02so, by which I mean I'm selling out. It felt first of all,
- 1:06:08it's like wow, retripped to lands, like oh yeah, and then
- 1:06:11you start getting more invationial, You're find me business, you're putting me up
- 1:06:14and there's a pretty nice hotel. I've actually got a bit of time in
- 1:06:17LA as well as you know, the work that I'm doing. That felt
- 1:06:20great, but it also felt I'm sorry to be a bit wank here,
- 1:06:24but it felt like, oh I might be doing something right here. You've
- 1:06:27get some degree of validation. They chose me. Yeah, well they were
- 1:06:30only like I think there were only like two Australians that they flew over,
- 1:06:32and it's like nice and yeah. Then got a few more of those and
- 1:06:36yeah they were fantastic. I mean the African one was probably the highlight.
- 1:06:42It was for National Geographic, went to Kenya, went out to the Massa
- 1:06:45Marus. Been a few days at this fantastic I guess Safari Lodge. You're
- 1:06:50sort of walking here in the background from the bushes and there's guy Davis.
- 1:06:59David just got come watch this overish history in the ecosystem by taking this.
- 1:07:08When it comes to voice casting, right, I know it's not a voice
- 1:07:11casting, but when it comes to just hiring someone to host a show,
- 1:07:14he is like the epitome, right, David doing National Geographic. When he
- 1:07:17passes, it'll never be the same, never will it never will be the
- 1:07:19same. Who's going to get the gig? Who wants to take over from
- 1:07:24David? Attenbo no one? It's like a oh god, probably yeah,
- 1:07:31because you can't watch those tacos without his voice. Now. It's very much
- 1:07:35like the Queen is dead and now King Charles? Where is he? Where's
- 1:07:40he been? Only Charles is getting better about it. He was not not
- 1:07:45well, but how many's under He's eating a Michael Wave dinner. I'm not
- 1:07:47very good at this as king business. Ah man, Yeah, they were
- 1:07:53my well, that was the extent of my work. Trips, But yeah,
- 1:07:57the first one was you never forget your first But yeah, the African
- 1:08:00one was an absolute blast. Andrew Swan in honor of the Chalkboard gay being,
- 1:08:03I will not wait twenty years to make another movie. Do you have
- 1:08:05hopes for a sequel in twenty twenty seven? And what would you want to
- 1:08:09see in it? I can't say much, but what would I want to
- 1:08:15see in the Simpsons movie? Jokes? Hello, Humor? Where are you?
- 1:08:23Less Dome, more Hank? All right? You want a story that
- 1:08:27incorporates the entire Springfield because they're the best ones. But I think the Dome
- 1:08:31aspect for that movie just felt so like the first half an hour of the
- 1:08:34Simpsons movie I thought was pretty good. Once they get out of the dome,
- 1:08:38it was just lackluster because it focused more on the family. I thought,
- 1:08:41Simpsons movie, don't just give us something just about the family. I
- 1:08:44think you need to give us something in Springfield, Yeah, about Springfield more
- 1:08:45in general. I don't know. Maybe it's just I remember walking out of
- 1:08:48it going, yes, all right, but Simpsons movie sequel, I'll come
- 1:08:54back to you next week, Andrew. So I'm gonna spend the next week
- 1:08:56thinking of a sequel idea. I'll come back to you next week. The
- 1:08:59idea. I'm going to spend the next week thinking about how I'm gonna look
- 1:09:02it down and go, yeah, that's good. Good idea. David Mott,
- 1:09:05which singer would you like to sing to you whilst on a private jet?
- 1:09:10And which of their songs would you change the lyrics to make it about
- 1:09:13beer. Let's go the first question first. Who would you love to have
- 1:09:15sing to you on a private jet? Alive or dead? If just say
- 1:09:18you could have pick any time? Jim Morrison, so be me baby.
- 1:09:21Oh it's a beer baby, come on baby lager woman? Yeah, like
- 1:09:29a woman. Yeah, woke up this morning and got myself with beer.
- 1:09:31You wouldn't even have to change the lyrics. Is that just because you'd like
- 1:09:33him as a singer or you like him just as a as a personality.
- 1:09:36I think it'd be interesting to sort of hang around with that kind of personality.
- 1:09:40Yeah, yeah, okay, I don't think he would want to change
- 1:09:42your songs. No, who would be a singer that I would want to
- 1:09:46incorporate? The obvious one for me is just like Lennon, But I don't
- 1:09:49know. But you're more going about who you'd want to meet as opposed to
- 1:09:51who you actually want to hear singing. Yeah, who's your favorite singer?
- 1:09:56Do you think not just because of who they are? Who's your favorite voice
- 1:09:59or who's the voice that you the most. One thing I've always said,
- 1:10:00have you heard of David Gray? Yeah? Yeah, I always said if
- 1:10:03I was a singer songwriter, would be David Gray. It was a kid.
- 1:10:06I loved Macy Gray's voice. She's so different. Oh, thank the
- 1:10:10story. There was a back when I was married. I was working in
- 1:10:16I think I was working in this Geelong on Melbourne, but I'd applied for
- 1:10:19this other job and was in Sydney and there was a possibility that I would
- 1:10:25get at a similar kind of job. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And
- 1:10:29my wife was like, she didn't want to move. Yeah, And I
- 1:10:32think she she had just found worked out and she was really happy with it
- 1:10:34and all that kind of stuff. It's saving friends and family too, there's
- 1:10:38all that. Yeah, but it especially in the real sort of honeymoon phase
- 1:10:42of being together and all that kind of stuff. And I remember hearing the
- 1:10:45Macy Gray song I Dry and the video clip, especially where they're running towards
- 1:10:48each other in that moment. Yeah, around that time, it's kind of
- 1:10:51like how he all you need is love and it's just some weird moment from
- 1:10:55your life. It just reminds you of it. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 1:10:57remember, and particularly send the clip with running each Other all happen. I
- 1:11:00was like, I'm not leaving. I know. She was like, oh,
- 1:11:03you know, you go up weekly and come back on weekends and all
- 1:11:05that kind of Oh so she wasn't going to make the movie. I don't
- 1:11:06think so. No, Yeah, I'm maybe remembering this inaccurately, but I
- 1:11:13was just like, yeah, but Masic Ray basically like, no, this
- 1:11:16is encapsulating how I'm feeling. Yeah, I'm gonna I'm sticking around. Yeah,
- 1:11:19I love movie. Does that to you? Oh yea, absolutely so.
- 1:11:23Whenever you still hear that song, you think of that moment. Oh
- 1:11:25yeah, but I haven't had I try in a very long time. Play
- 1:11:30Justin Williams Season nineteen and beyond is where I fell off watching The Simpsons.
- 1:11:32Understandable, justin we hope that's listening to four Thing a discount however, mostly
- 1:11:39because my dad had told me. I remember that he had heard that the
- 1:11:41movie was the beginning of the end of the series obviously not true. But
- 1:11:44where were there ever times you thought or heard the show was coming to an
- 1:11:45end. I don't think I remember thinking that the Simpsons movie was going to
- 1:11:49be the end. It feels like for the last like ten years, everyone
- 1:11:54sort of says, this could be the end of the Simpsons. I don't
- 1:11:56think the Simpsons is going to end. I think there's no reason to end.
- 1:12:00It's still one of the most watched things on Disney. Plus people still
- 1:12:03watch it on Fox. It's the most marketable brand Fox probably owns. Besides
- 1:12:08will be the most marketed brands that Fox owns. Simpsons, well, that
- 1:12:11they created because that Disney Now is it? I guess, isn't it?
- 1:12:14Yeah? I mean I guess Star Wars to some degree, although yeah,
- 1:12:18that was Fox, wasn't it. Yeah? It was Fox initially, although
- 1:12:21George Lucas sort of owned the market everything now doesn't he That doesn't it?
- 1:12:25Yeah? But The Simpsons is one of those shows where people always complaining I
- 1:12:29should have ended years ago, but those people an't watch anymore anyway. It
- 1:12:30doesn't matter. Don't worry about those people. It's like speaking at Star Wars.
- 1:12:34I mean, you've got old school times like myself, like Original Trilogy
- 1:12:38for Life, and then you've go people who are really into the prequels,
- 1:12:40and now you've got people who are into the new ones, which boggles my
- 1:12:44mind. But you know what, those movies weren't made for me, So
- 1:12:46that's true, and maybe these most recent episodes of the sims or the most
- 1:12:49recent seasons of The Simpsons are not made for people like you and I while
- 1:12:53went and watched Return of the Jedi with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra last week and
- 1:12:56it was so funny. At the end, the guy doing the conductor right
- 1:12:59goes, so, who's going to come for the Phantom Menace? And everyone's
- 1:13:01like boo. It was like, we ain't doing that now. Having said
- 1:13:06that, I mean, we're not gonna hopefully this show is still going to
- 1:13:09be running when we get to season whatever it is of The Simpsons thirty six.
- 1:13:12Now up to thirty six, our past halfway now, we'll be like
- 1:13:16Barton Homer seeing the itchin scratch that one's a jet. But yeah, we'll
- 1:13:24try to view it objectively and offer our two cents on why it works and
- 1:13:28white doesn't and all that kind of business. But you mentioned David Attenborough being
- 1:13:32replaced by maybe you know, the likes of I think that's what dancing and
- 1:13:38Julie Kavna will be replaced by AI versions of themselves as these characters as opposed
- 1:13:44to getting new people in. I had a conversation with our man Matt Salmon.
- 1:13:47Oh, yeah, I probably shouldn't say it, but I'll tell you
- 1:13:51off the air. It's very interesting. There's a middle ground of there that
- 1:13:57we'll discuss. I'll tell you off the air. I cannot say this perfectly.
- 1:14:00Is that other question? That is all the questions Simpsons Mailbag at gmail
- 1:14:02dot com. We did get some questions actually come through. Some messages come
- 1:14:05through this week as well, so I'll get into the mailbag Simpsons Mailbag at
- 1:14:09gmail dot com. So it comes from Angela Stockovich. Now she's the lovely
- 1:14:13lady who sent us all the X Files references for our review of Springfield File.
- 1:14:16So, by the way, guys, so every month, now sure,
- 1:14:18Guy and I are going to be going back and revisiting some of the
- 1:14:19classic episodes or some guests and whatnot. But each month we're going to be
- 1:14:24going back in the return of Guy on Springfield on our Patreon where we go
- 1:14:27back and revisit the top tier classic episodes and we let the patrons decide which
- 1:14:31episodes that is, and this month it was the Springfield File. So if
- 1:14:34you want to hear our review of the Springfield Files, that is available right
- 1:14:38now on our Patreon channel. But Angela wrote in today our last week sorry,
- 1:14:42She wrote, Guy and Dando, just a short note to say that
- 1:14:45my last few days have been a bit mentally tough for me, and as
- 1:14:47a reflex, I found myself turning on your podcast to listen to the two
- 1:14:50of you banter for over an hour is very good for the soul. Thank
- 1:14:54you, keep it up. Oh thank you. That's very lovely to get
- 1:14:57a messages like that, doesn't it? It really is. Do you hope
- 1:15:00you have pulled out of the tailspin? I guess you may have found yourself
- 1:15:04in, but we are happy to be here and will continue to be here
- 1:15:09for you, Angela and for everyone else. Exactly right, And it's another
- 1:15:12one here comes from Asia Asia Aish Asia, Hi down to Hi Guy.
- 1:15:19I firstly love the podcast. It has been a great way to start my
- 1:15:21day. And idea popped into my head for a final episode of the Simpsons.
- 1:15:25I'm not exactly sure on the specific storyline, but I was thinking it
- 1:15:28could be extended version of the opening sequence, essentially a story that means we
- 1:15:31see the opening sequence, but in a context, of course, there can
- 1:15:33be other scenes that aren't related to the sequence, so it shouldn't feel too
- 1:15:36forced. And this would make the final scene the whole family sitting on the
- 1:15:40sofa, which I think would be really heartwarming to close out with. It
- 1:15:43also should get an appearance from most of the people in Springfield by doing this,
- 1:15:45which is a necessity for a proper goodbye. I feel like it has
- 1:15:48a potential, but I've also literally just thought of it as of writing this
- 1:15:53right now. What do you think? What storyline do you think we could
- 1:15:55map out the opening sequence? Excited to hear what you think, Asia,
- 1:15:58So that's actually a good idea. It is so it will start off with
- 1:16:01sense and it's just twenty two minutes of them getting to the couch. That's
