- Jackson: Hello everyone, welcome back. My name's Jackson, that's Davis, and this is the Mike Check Podcast. What's going on? Sorry everyone in advance. I'll say this right off the rip. Been a little under the weather lately and currently having some problems with my ears. So if you see me like doing this or trying to pop my ears, that's why. just getting clogged like crazy. But anyways, Davis, how are you this week? Davis: Yeah. What a what a cold open there. Jackson: Yeah, sorry, I just had to I can barely hear myself talk, so I just had to get that out there before before I forgot or before I got too far into it and people started clicking off 'cause I sounded too stupid, but but yeah. What's up? Davis: Yeah. No, I'm good. We had a eventful college football week. I think another weekend where five AP top twenty five teams were upset. Jackson: Yeah, it it it just it's continuing to get crazier and crazier and I'm seeing stat after stat after stat on Twitter about how this is the craziest college football season of all time. I think it is the Davis: Yeah. Reminiscent of the tw two thousand seven. Is that where Jackson: Yeah. Davis: like there was like back to back to back to back weeks of the number one team getting upset? And then our Jackson: I think so. Davis: our the national champion was two loss L S U, which was unheard of in the BCS days. You know. Jackson: And I'm glad you mentioned BCS because whenever the AP Top 25 comes out every week, I follow some page on Twitter that also gives the BCS rankings. So as we get deeper into the season, I think it'd be interesting to kind of take a look at the BCS. We won't do it today because I'm not prepared to to do that today, but it it's interesting to look at just because the last few years I feel like the BCS has been pretty dang close to what the the college of all players. Davis: You reali you realize the computers Jackson: Sorry. Davis: are smarter than all the A Ds and sports Jackson: Yeah. Davis: journalists and everybody that just fakes acting like they watch football on ranks teams based on how they did last week. If they lost, move down five spots. Which is essentially what the A P poll is. It's it's ridiculous. Jackson: Yeah, especially the A P poll. Dude, it's not even like like some people d some of those people don't even pretend to watch football. Like they just are on Davis: Yeah. Jackson: the Associated Press voter list or whatever and so they put their top twenty five out. But I genuinely don't think a lot of them watch football. But Davis: Yeah. And then you got people on Twitter that are that'll that track down the individual people that had like a terrible AP poll and try to get answers out of which might be doing a little much, but I appreciate it 'cause I like holding people accountable. Hey, if you have Jackson: I do appreciate it and I'm glad Davis: a vote, you then you need to like that's a that's a high honor. It's you need to Jackson: It is. You're literally provide this is these are ranking people say, and even me, obviously I've said it twenty times already, the AP poll is a joke, but when you think about it, you look at how many AP top twenty five wins you have, obviously when the College of Wall playoff rankings come out, then you will look at that. But some people will look at all right, they beat this team when they were ranked this at this time. So like Davis: Yeah. Jackson: People use the A P poll as a metric when it comes to getting in the college football playoffs. So I just think we should we should scrap all the voters and and start all over. But I could go on and on about that and how much Davis: Yeah. Yeah. Jackson: I dislike the A P poll but Davis: Speaking of metrics, do wanna float a game that we're playing later. We're gonna do a little bit of a a blind resume. we have Will, friend of the pod. pick some team comparison matchups that neither one of us know of, and we're gonna select stats to to compare and see, how these I guess resumes line up without knowing who the teams are. See how we do, see which, metrics are more I guess hold more weight as opposed to others. So it should be a fun one. So stick around for that. Jackson: All right, so looking back, recapping last week, every week we have started to do a comment section Pick'ems Challenge where everyone in the comments selects their picks against the spread for the pick six game and the winner will feature their picks on the next show. And we had a new week this second week of of doing this, but we had the same winner, John Stafford, going sixth and this week, did not miss a single Davis: yeah. Jackson: pick on the on the pick six pick'ems challenge. So Davis: Yeah. Jackson: John Stafford nine eight eight four, congratulations. You are you're killing it. And maybe you may be bumping one of us off the show here pretty soon. Davis: yeah. I literally commented after he sa after he posted that. since he was our winner last week, I commented and said, Doesn't feel great that I'm fading four out of six of these picks. so one of us is not having a good week. And it was it was me. It was Jackson: Who would have guessed it was Davis? Davis: me. So yeah, but congrats, John Stafford. Hell of a week, and since you won it last week. We we got you to submit some plays of the week this week and you did well in that too. So yeah, might need a might need to have a full time segment going forward. Jackson: Yeah. here we go. I know. We may need the John Stafford nine eighty eight four segment because he is doing a a lot better than we are. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: so his picks of the week, he went two out of three, lost NC State minus six and a half on a Friday night, but then got home with Toledo and the San Diego State team total for thirty one and a half. So this past week, this man is eight and a one on his on his picks. And he and he did like under pressure. he won this challenge Davis: Yeah. Jackson: and then we made him give all these picks and he went eight and one. So Davis: Yeah. And then dating back to last week, five and one on top of that. So 13-2 in his last 15 picks. So hell of a job. If you're listening to this, congratulations. Anyone else listening to this? This could be you. Just comment Jackson: It's gonna be you. Davis: your picks. he set a very high bar. Jackson: Yeah, he holds the Mike Check Pick'em's record for two weeks. So all right, we'll move on. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Winners and losers. Davis, your first. Your first winner is Davis: Miami. in a college football season that you know everybody's getting upset. Miami has I guess continued to dominate, had a little scare two weeks ago against FSU, but one big against Pittsburgh 52 23. They now are seven and and five and in ACC play. And they're ranked in the AP number one spot for the first time since two thousand and two. Jackson: They're rolling. Schedule hadn't looked great, but they are rolling. They're Davis: Okay. Yeah. Jackson: doing what they're supposed to be doing with the exception of that Florida State game. But it's hard to fault a team for their schedule when I guess you can control you can you can control. They do play in the Eastern Davis: I have Notre Dame in two weeks. Jackson: They do have Notre Dame in two weeks, so that will be a a big test for Miami to see where kind of they really are in terms of the rest of them against in the rest of the college football landscape. All right, so my first winner is teams on a bye week. I We've talked about it the last two weeks, all these crazy upsets and my team, Alabama, is now just getting to their bye week this week. And it's like a sigh of relief that I don't have to stress out about another game on Saturday. So I just feel like teams on bye are really bye weeks are really cherished and valued this season, above any other season just because of all the crazy upsets and really the any given Saturday thing, like You really don't know who's next in terms of who's gonna get upset this this next week. So, that that is my first winner for the week. Alright, so my first loser is Tennessee. I talked about it a little bit. I picked on Tennessee and said they won Super Bowl against Bama. I thought this was a letdown spot. I did not think they were that good. However, I think it's kind of a mix of both. I think South Carolina's kind of hitting their stride a little bit in terms of like preseason expectation. But Tennessee, You gotta you gotta silence all the people that are that were saying exactly what I was saying, that you won your Super Bowl, here comes the letdown spot, here comes the loss against South Carolina, but they were not able to bounce back and get the win for a second consecutive week. So they're my first loser of the weekend. Davis: Big twelve as a conference did not have a good weekend. last week in our conference breakdown episode, we floated the possibility that they could have, you know, three teams make it in. We thought that there was a good chance that this was a two-bid league at minimum. And then as soon as we say that, what happens? BYU gets upset, Texas Tech gets upset. And really that two bid stuff, that three bid stuff, that goes out the window. I think just like that it was flipped on its head. Jackson: Yeah. Davis: So last week, BYU was minus one forty to make the playoffs. This week they're plus one forty five. Texas Tech was minus one fifteen to make the playoffs. Now they're plus three hundred. So just in an instant, the Big Twelve comes you know, roaring back to I guess what we all thought preseason. for my next winner, I have the college basketball blue bloods. Tried to get a little creative here. so these schools are really proving that they're not just, basketball schools. You have UCLA, they remain undefeated after a win against Michigan State, and they're ranked number seven in the AP poll. Kentucky, they've continued to roll, and they are number nine. Kansas got a big win after being down eleven to Baylor. Duke won over Virginia. UConn got a win over UMass. and then we can skip over North Carolina. But as a whole, college basketball blue bloods did well in the football season this past week. Jackson: Alright, my next winner was Texas. you lose two in a row. It's kind of a must win game. Ole Miss comes into town and the questions about Arch Manning are obviously there, the backup quarterback drama and and rumors. I guess not rumors. I mean Sark really he said that that they were giving the backup some looks. all that noise and they they were able to get the win against a really good Ole Miss team. I'll mention it time and time again. With the schedules that you have in the SEC, it's very crucial to win any game you can. So Texas finally stops that losing streak and and gets the win. Alright my next loser is USC. not a lot to be said here. I mean it's year what five? Four? Davis: It's probably longer than that. It's probably six, right? Six or seven? Jackson: Maybe, yeah. Of the Lincoln Riley era and things do not seem to be looking up. they just look terrible against Wisconsin. I know we'll get into that in a second with the breakdowns. But if you're UFC, you really have to start asking the the tough questions of is this is this the guy we want to lead our team going forward with Lincoln Riley? And I think that's you know. at this point w to what they have accomplished with him so far, I think it's it's a fair time to start to start really digging into that question. So they're my my next loser for the weekend. Davis: Yeah, you were correct it was year five. But to add on to that, you had they're a one loss team. You think they'd be, playing l with their back up against the wall, trying to get into the playoffs and they lay a dud, which just inexcusable. Alright, for my big loser, it's Kyle Whittingham. You know what? what an ugly game. Michigan, Indiana, it's tied six to six going into overtime before Michigan loses it. But that's that's not the reason that they're a loser here. The the reason that Kyle Whittingham is is a loser is because of some of the postgame words that he said. Let me pull it up and I'll I'll quote it. So after the game, he said, if that's the number six team in the country, then we're a pretty good football team. dude, read the room. They don't like it you put your head down and you work. You don't say we're close. We're almost there. We have a good team. We fought hard. Like there's no moral victories. This is Michigan. Jackson: Right. Davis: And then the craziest Jackson: Right. Davis: part is later on in that same press conference he came out and said, they asked him about coordinator changes or something, and he said, We're a couple plays away from being six and one, there's no time to panic. you're you're you're a correct call away from being three and four. it's just just read the room. That that's really what it comes down to. Jackson: Do you think this could be a one and done season for Kyle Whittingham? I mean, he was a late hire. He's an older coach that we all thought was like I mean, they had a succession plan for him at Utah. Like Davis: Yeah. Jackson: when he retired that that other guy would take his spot. And I just I thought the hire was interesting when th when they did it. it was I guess a little bit of a desperation thing for Michigan, but At four and three right now and I don't know what the rest of their schedule looks like. Obviously we all know that they have Ohio State on Thanksgiving weekend. So that's another probable loss, but I don't know. It it could be a one and done type deal for Michigan and see if they can they may may move on and and try someone else. Davis: Yeah, so they go they go Rutgers this week, should be a win. Michigan State should be a win. And then they finish with Oregon, UCLA, and Ohio State. Oregon should have Dante Moore back, you'd think, unless he's just kinda not playing the rest of the season, which is probably more possible now that I'm saying it out loud. I don't know. I I I don't think that I would like to err on the side Jackson: Like you said, it's Michigan. Davis: of it not being a one and done unless there's off the field situations that happen. So I will if you give me fifty fifty odds at that, I would say no, he does not get fired this year. Jackson: Yeah. I I agree with you. all right. First game recap, Omis twenty seven, Texas thirty four. So this game was obviously all Texas in the first half. one thing go ahead. Davis: Yeah. Well just just just give the ri the quick recap of of how the game went. I mean, Texas went up what, twenty four three at half. Ole Miss kinda made it interesting late or made it more than interesting late, tied it up. Texas then went on a eighty yard touchdown game winning scoring drive. a drive that consisted of all rushing. eighty yards all on the ground. Texas scored and then Ole Miss ended up what? Kicking a field goal and then actually got the the onside kick but but couldn't convert. Jackson: Yeah, so when I watched this game I thought the first half looked a lot like what we talked about last week on the podcast. Sark has gotta make this easy for Arch. His confidence is down, he's not been playing very well, so just make it as easy as you can. And I went back and watched the condensed game for this game, and he really did make his easy make it as easy as he possibly could. first drive for Texas, I feel like your first two drives really were all quick reads. Pre-snap, know where you're going with the ball, three step drop, get it out. Or one step drop, get it out. Play action slants, quick outs, etcetera. Davis: Yeah, it w it was definitely crucial for Texas to get off to a hot start. Not only because they did and then ended up blowing it, but can you imagine if if the score was flipped and Texas goes down twenty-four to three? Arch Arch isn't playing in that game to finish it out if if Texas goes down twenty-four to three. So good on Texas to get out early. Arch had some good moments, had some bad moments, had some really good throws, had some head scratching throws. he I know it's cliche to say that he played with a different intensity, but I've never seen him so fiery, just on the sideline, in in pre-game or post-game interviews, just to his teammates. he definitely had an edge about him, which I was surprised about. They asked him about it later and he kinda credited it to he's been praised his whole life. He had to prove the doubters wrong now that he's I don't know, some something stupid. And you should always kinda have that chip on your shoulder. But definitely did in that game and I mean he played fine. It was it was what surprised me was the rushing attack from from Texas. They hadn't been able to run the ball all year. And then what Ralique Brown puts up 157 yards. That was very impressive, especially given the fact that Ole Miss just the week prior only gave up, I believe, fifty three yards to Missouri, who is one of the better rushing teams in the SEC. So I don't know what to make of this Ole Miss defense. They've been very up and down. But credit credit to Jackson: Yeah. Davis: S Sark and that that Texas O line. Jackson: I talked about last week that maybe the old miss defense had been fixed a little bit since the bye week. And, you know, we talked about Pete Golding being a defensive guy and and really putting a lot of emphasis on stopping the run. whereas early on in the season, like we saw in that game against Louisville, the explosives in the passing game were the problem, but then Florida obviously exposed that run game. and it had been a problem ever since. But they played Vandy, didn't allow much on the ground to Vandy, they played Missouri. Obviously you just talked about shut Missouri down. And I think against Texas, you just ran into a team that has a lot of talent, probably more talent than you have. whereas against Missouri and Vanderbilt, I think it's the other way. I think Ole Miss is the more talented team. So your defense is looking good against Teams that weren't as talented, but then you run into a team like Texas and it it doesn't look so good. And like you said, the run game for Texas I think was really able to open up a lot of those quick throw windows for Arch. you had to stack the box to stop the run first and that really just allowed him to make some plays, throwing the ball to the outside. Davis: He had some beautiful throws down the field. That first one to Cam Coleman that just hit his hands and he dropped. Can't have that if you're Cam Coleman and one of the highest paid receivers in in the league. But yeah, what a what a beautiful throw by by Arch there. And then he had another one to to Ryan Wingo, had pressure in his face, stepped up. Beautiful throw right in stride. Jackson: Yeah, that was yeah. Davis: So Had some good ones and then and then had some other ones where I just threw it up and there's safety sitting over top and a corner underneath and it's just like, What are what are you doing? Jackson: Yeah. So I I made a big emphasis on the quick game stuff. So I wanted to go back, like I said, and watch the condensed game to see how many of these throws was Arch kinda like what I talk about with Trinidad, what he does is he'll sit back there, read, read, read, fire. So with Arch, these are the passes he had that he took one or more hitch on. So he dropped back, hitched, and hitched. Or sat in the pocket for more than one point five seconds. So Davis: So essentially not first read. Jackson: Essentially not first read, yes. So the first one was the bomb to Wingo that he stepped up and put it right in the breadbasket. That was the first one. The second one was a play action throwback to a tight end, which was nice. And then the third one was the fumble six in the second half. And then after that they pretty much went short game or just ran the ball. I know a lot of people want to say Arch is fixed, but To me, this game kinda played right into not Arch's strengths, but if I'm Sark and I have a quarterback that's struggling, throwing those quick passes, running the ball efficiently makes those a lot easier. So Davis: Yeah. And this is also a team that while we gave them credit, speaking about Ole Mess, while we gave them credit for shutting down that Missouri r rushing attack, they also gave up what three hundred and thirty nine yards to Austin Simmons too. So kinda gotta take it with what it's worth. Take it for what Jackson: Yeah. Davis: it's worth. Jackson: I I would be curious to see how Arch does against a team that stops the run. If Texas struggles to run the ball and then you really have to depend on Arch to to go back there and make plays. I don't want to take away from what he did 'cause it still was a he had a good game, he made some really good throws, but I think a lot of that was Sark too. Sark drew Davis: Yeah. Yeah. Jackson: it up pretty nicely for him and give him credit though, he he was able to execute. Davis: And and they ran him the ball too. he had two Russian Jackson: Yeah. Davis: touchdowns and to your credit if you just look at the box score, it doesn't look like they ran the ball with him because he took some some sacks that, takes the the Russian total off of it. But they definitely ran him ran it with him, which was good to see. Jackson: right. Number 14, Houston, 13. Number 10, Utah 21. this game started off really slow. At halftime when it was 3-0 and seemed like it was 2 a.m., it I was I was dozing. but picked it up a little bit in scoring in the second half. what were your takeaways from this one? Davis: Yeah, this was reminiscent of Pac twelve after dark. Jackson: Yeah it was. Davis: except without the offense, surprisingly. this was a game that featured two top ten offenses, two suspect defenses, and it was quite the opposite. points were hard to come by. Devin Dampier had some turnovers early and really just struggled to score. Houston moved the ball early somewhat, but had to settle for a field goal in that in that second quarter. And it actually came after a long run from Connor Wigman and he he kinda looked like he got banged up a little bit. I'm curious to see what they say about that in the injury port like this upcoming week. But Jackson: Yeah, to me in the first half at least, it was a lot of like the ball was moving, but there just wasn't a lot of scoring. You had some turnovers. Houston held the ball for eight minutes. I believe it was the second quarter on that long drive. And they didn't score, they got a field goal, I can't remember, but yeah, just a lot of just a slow moving stuff. Houston hit some explosive plays in the second half, but Ultimately Devin Dampier was just too much. He accounted for 82% of Utah's total yards. He had two or four passing plus 150 rushing. So this game was all Devin Dampier. Houston was not able to run the ball either, which also it makes things a lot harder on the road, especially. So Davis: Yeah. Jackson: I had a chance late in the game, but as you mentioned, or I guess like we talked about before, I clicked record, the strip sack was was tough to to end this game. Davis: Yeah, and give credit to that Utah crowd, man. They did the blackout and that that stadium, that environment, it was it was rocking. it was one of the louder games that I could hear, at least from the broadcast. so credit credit to that fan base, huge win for Utah. They sit atop the Big Twelve standings. and I believe that they're the odds on favorite for the Big Twelve. So good for them. Also very big adjustment from Utah's defensive coordinator. They started blitzing just almost about every play in that second half, especially on that last drive where Houston had a chance to to take the lead. First play of the drive, like you said, strip sack. And then that very next drive, Houston just could not hold up against the blitz. And yeah, Wigman what, I think threw an interception to end that drive or turnover on downs. Jackson: Yeah. like you said, a lot of credit to Utah's D C 'cause I feel like Wegman had a lot of a lot of time in the first half, but it really kinda seemed like it went to nothing in the second half with all the blitz packages. did wanna mention both of these teams had pretty decent stats when it came to yards per play. Utah at seven point five and Houston at five point five eight. So I mean these teams both moved the ball like pretty decently. They just the scoring Davis: Yeah. Jackson: was just wasn't happening there, especially in the first half with the turnovers and then this the turnover on downs for for Houston near the goal line. So yeah. Interesting game. But like you said, congrats to Utah. Definitely puts him in the driver's seat in the big twelve and they will control their own destiny from here on out. All right. Number 11, Tennessee 24, South Carolina 27. So this game was another game that kind of started off really all South Carolina, and then Tennessee came storming back there in the second quarter to take the lead. nothing in the third quarter, and then a lot of craziness in the fourth quarter. So, Davis, I'll let you unpack this one a little bit first. Davis: Yeah, it's South Carolina's probably the fan base that knows it the best, but you're up fourteen points. That game is not over with. You looked on the like I just looked through Twitter and just every South Carolina fan is is saying that this game isn't over. This game like like they have seen the blown leads many times. And I thought that it was it was gonna be, you know, one and the same again. South Carolina goes up fourteen early. all for Tennessee to come back and have that game at twenty one to seventeen at at halftime. Jackson: Yeah, so I want to give a lot of credit to South Carolina and their offensive coordinator and their offensive play calling specifically. kind of similar to Arch Manning, like Lenore Sellers has struggled a little bit this season, but they really played to the advantage of or the disadvantage rather of Tennessee. Instead of trying to run the ball up the middle where where Xavier Gilliam is and all those defensive linemen and linebackers are, they try to get the ball out into space. and get it away from from the Tennessee strength w which is the defensive line. also the RPO game was nice for South Carolina there early on and I fell in North Sellers decision making was was pretty good. So that was pretty effective for them and their offense looked a lot better than it has in in weeks past. So Davis: It helps when you have a ninety-eighth percentile explosive play rate. They had ten explosive plays, which just when you have Lenore Sellers back there and he's like playing well, it it obviously makes it easier. He went eighteen of thirty-two for two hundred and ten, and then also had ninety-six yards on the ground with two touchdowns. One of those touchdowns being just an all-time play. I wish we could show it on here, but I'm sure all of y'all have seen the the snapshot of him essentially completely on the ground, it looked like and he somehow somehow still found a way to score. So just an absolute specimen. do you know how many times Tennessee ran the ball? Fifty times for a hundred and eighty four yards. So while the average isn't there, just it's crazy that, you know, I mean w we said Tennessee's offense is one dimensional. It doesn't get more it doesn't get Jackson: That's what they do. Davis: one more it doesn't get more one dimensional than fifty rushes and only 136 passing yards. And you weren't even really able to rush run the ball. you averaged less than four yards of carry. Jackson: Right, that's the thing. In in Tennessee I talked about it last week. It didn't exactly work out as I maybe would have thought, but if they get down early with being such a one dimensional run style team, it's gonna be hard for them to come back. But they did come back. However, South Carolina shut down that run a little bit there later in the game. Davis: Tennessee still found a way to get five sacks. they led the led the SEC in sacks coming into the game. Still have the lead, I believe. D line is is very good. it yeah, it's crazy. You would have told me that South Carolina goes up fourteen nothing, and I say, I don't know if Tennessee has the the like passing attack to get back in the game, but they do. And then you tell me that. That Tennessee goes up 10, what, 10 in the fourth? And I would have said, I don't think that South Carolina's gonna be able to pass the ball with Tennessee's defense knowing that it's a passing situation and that pass rush being as effective as it is. But South Carolina does. they tied up late. Tennessee had a chance to score, and Dylan Stewart, one of the best defensive players in the college football, gets a strip sack. To put it into overtime, or sorry, not overtime, to get put him in field goal range. So I don't know what happened in that suspension for Dylan Stewart, but he's completely turned it around. He's been an absolute game wrecker. And I mean, we knew that he's one of the most talented players in the league, but it makes life easier when you have two freaks on either side of the ball in Dylan Stewart and Lenore Sellers. Jackson: Yeah, I I think one last thing. I thought George McIntyre played well. Tennessee did have some some big plays called back in this game. so that's that. I know I know you could say like they were called back because you know the penalty was the reason for the big play, but either way, I I thought McIntyre looked good. I think maybe for Josh Heupel you kind of take the training wheels off a little bit and let him not air it out but Don't be so one dimensional. Don't be so reliant on the run. I think their run opens up their pass game more than maybe he's thinking, or or maybe he's just not trusting his quarterback to to make a throw given he's a true freshman. So I think it's time if you're if you're Josh Heipel to to let it rip for George McIntyre. I think he's he's shown it and he's done well two weeks in a row. So I don't know. Let him go to work a little bit, see what he's got. Davis: and Williams Bryce did not disappoint either. Another great atmosphere. Jackson: That place is nuts. Davis: Have you been there? Jackson: I have not. It's one of the one of the few SEC stadiums I have not been to. Davis: Yeah. It's on the list for sure. Jackson: Alright, next game, USC seven. Wisconsin twenty four. yeah, like what in the world Davis: It it this has gotta be embarrassing. I and I I see why people are calling for Lincoln Riley's job. I mean, UFC's good for one of the one or two of these a year. Just an absolute letdown. I mean, you go into a spot, you you've lost one game all season, the the big ten looks wide open with Indiana, you know, not looking as good, Ohio State having their quarterback. potentially off of the season. Oregon having a down year. it's wide open and you you lay a dud. So it's gotta be disappointing. Seven points? that just doesn't make any sense to me. negative seventeen rushing yards. just just whipped in the line of scrimmage. It's as it's as simple as Jackson: Yeah, Colton Joseph, Wisconsin's quarterback, was twelve for fourteen for fifty-eight yards and a touchdown. I Davis: Yeah. Jackson: don't know. You talk about one dimensional, like Wisconsin's offense is one dimensional, and they USC just l I don't know, somehow they still won. That's the crazy thing to me, is like somehow Wisconsin threw for fifty-eight yards and still won the game. And they only rushed for one forty two. It wasn't like they ran for three hundred yards on the ground. Like Davis: Yeah. Jackson: It this seems like a game that USC could win. If you just block out everything else, and you just circled all of Wisconsin's stats right here on the screen right now, total yards, passing yards, rushing yards, and the rest. I would tell you that USC won the game. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: just by looking at Wisconsin's stats. But it's just it's crazy how how USC could not score more than seven points. They couldn't get anything running the ball and I will say when that I think it was right guard or left guard went down for USC in the first or the second quarter that that offense looked completely different. Wisconsin was manhandling them on the lines of scrimmage and they just like we've talked about, just could not get anything going. Davis: Yeah. so in this game, USC had a had three point four nine yards per play, which is a fourth percentile number. Wisconsin had three point five seven, which is a fifth percentile number. I would be curious to see if there's a game, at least this season, with lower yards per play across the two teams. Jackson: Yeah, probably not. but i mean you gotta give Wisconsin credit. Like they played this game perfectly if you're Wisconsin as a defensive coordinator. Like they didn't let the receivers get behind him, so they limited all the explosive plays and they trusted their box enough to stop the run and and they did. So Davis: Yeah. Jackson: and US C just couldn't do anything without the explosives or run game and yeah. Davis: Yeah. So I just got the notification that Dante Moore not expected to play again this season. Which Jackson: Yeah, I figure. Davis: was right on cue c after I after I said, read their scheduling. your playoff chances are kinda out of it. I'd not surprise to see that. But anyways, USC, next two games, Ohio State and Indiana. Jackson: Does not get easier. But I talked about this on the preview pod, before the season started. USC loses these games. Like you just mentioned, th they're due for one of the two of these a year, but they always show up for those big games and and somehow it's a shootout with a team like Ohio State or Indiana and they have a chance to win late. So I would not I would not sell on USC quite yet just because of the potential that is there with their offense. I know The starting alignment going down is a is a whole nother thing. But yeah, if they can get back healthy for those two games I think I think they can maybe make some noise and hopefully pull off pull off an upset Davis: Yeah. Jackson: in one of the two. Davis: And I meant to mention it on the when we were covering the Texas game, but you you speaking about O Lineman getting hurt made re made me remember. Trevor Goosby, Texas's left tackle, out for the season with a knee injury. Huge blow. Jackson: Anything else for this game before we move on? Davis: Yeah, I'm good to move on. Jackson: All right, number eighteen, LSU at thirty eight, Auburn seventeen. Go ahead. Davis: Yep, this was ugly. LSU was able to do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, however they wanted. you just look at the numbers, five hundred and fifty-two total yards. I think it was over three hundred and twenty yards at half. I am looking to see if I have that actual number. but yeah. Trade Az Green came back and was a mismatch nightmare. Sam Levitt probably had his best game as a LSU Tiger, put up three hundred and eighty-seven yards and four touchdowns. And then Auburn really just wasn't able to move the ball. I said that the O line was a concern, especially against LSU's D line. And it was exactly that. they had five sacks. Auburn probably had like at least three or four holding penalties on passing downs that I can remember. I mean, it was ugly. There weren't any turnovers, which if Auburn was gonna somehow win this game, they needed to force LSU to turn the ball over, which they didn't. just a just an ugly game, and LSU continues to look better and better. they lead the SEC in yards per game on offense, and they lead the SEC in yards allowed per game on defense. if they don't turn the ball over, they're hard to beat. I know they haven't really beaten anybody yet, but they're a two their two two-point conversions go in the opposite way from being undefeated right now. And they go into this week with a bye, and then they have Alabama coming up. Jackson: Yep. You got Bama, Texas, at Tennessee and at Arkansas for LSU. So tough remaining schedule, but with the talent on that team and it seems like they are kind of peaking at the right time. you know, the possibilities are endless for LSU. I know a lot of people talked on talked about being down on them after the first few weeks of the season, but that forty million or fifty million dollar roster, whatever it is, is starting to look like it Davis: Yeah. Jackson: right right about now. So Davis: Yep. Their two defensive ends lead the SEC in pressures. They're one and two in pressures. Prince Will Uman Mealen probably butchered that, but I've been practicing it. And then Jordan and then Jackson: That's good. Davis: Jordan Ross. They get after the quarterback. Jackson: Yeah, they're good. They're good. They are they're good. They are talented and yeah, they're a scary team. All right, last game. North Dakota State 16, New Mexico 21. So we talked about, this was this was a very defensive game. I think the big key here is North Dakota State, their identity really is is running the football. And as you can see by those fifty-three rush yards, that was not happening in this game. we talked about New Mexico's defense and how they were one of the better defenses at stopping the run. So took away North Dakota State's bread and butter and were able to get the win twenty one to sixteen. Davis: Yeah. And the difference in this game was the pick six that New Mexico had. we said it on the preview that New Mexico ha led the nation in turnover margin. So while these two teams were very good at preventing points and preventing yards, it was New Mexico's ability to create turnovers and put their offense up for success, is what I thought would make the difference and it and it was. New Mexico's offense only scored fourteen points. So Jackson: Yeah, and then North Dakota State also outgained New Mexico in the second half. That's also worth mentioning. One seventy seven to one twenty one. So th these teams are very even. would you I've seen a lot of people putting New Mexico in the conversation of like actually getting in the playoff. Like I don't I don't know what the like how accurate the comp is between a one loss New Mexico team and a one loss Boise team, but Davis: think if both teams have Jackson: It's certainly worth mentioning. Davis: if both teams have one loss then it's probably Boise State Jackson: Yeah, was I would probably say the Pac twelve is a little more is a little stronger conference wise, but Mexico State may have an argument there at the end of season to to sneak into the playoff as the as the G six team. Anything else on this game? Davis: no. Jackson: Some other notable games around college football this weekend. I guess since we we did kind of a different pick six this week, there there were some bigger games that we didn't cover. UCF gets the win against BYU. That was interesting. Did you watch that game? Did you see that Scott Frost did not kick a field goal with a tie game with a minute left on fourth and one from the goal line or from the one yard line? Davis: Was it a minute left? Jackson: think so, or maybe it was a little more than a minute left, but still. Davis: Yeah, there's some interesting play calls and there's some interesting referee calls. I didn't realize that so help me out here. When they kicked the field goal on third down and it got blocked, were they gonna let them kick it again? But they said that the time ran out 'cause the helmet's kick or the the helmet came off, so it was a ten second runoff. There's no way they're gonna let him kick it again, right? I don't think that I didn't realize that was a rule. Jackson: They were gonna let Yeah. They were gonna let kick it again because the ball went backwards. So I guess it was it was technically a fumble. Like it was you know, it's ruled as a fumble, not Davis: But it was Jackson: an incomplete pass. Davis: No, I'm talking about the kick though. Jackson: Right. He blocked it and the when he blocked it the ball went behind the line of scrimmage, right? So that means Davis: I didn't real I didn't realize that that doesn't count as a an attempt. 'Cause if you kick the ball let's say take out the time, if you kick the ball on third down and you miss it, you don't get to retry. You just Jackson: Yeah, if the ball goes forward and out of bounds. But if Davis: Or just forward. Jackson: the ball I th right, if the ball crosses the line of scrimmage and touches the ground somewhere, that is like you think of it I think as an incomplete pass, but if it goes behind the line of scrimmage, that is like a backwards pass. It is a lateral. Davis: Well the incomplete pass thing doesn't matter 'cause it's on third down. if it's an incomplete pass Jackson: Right, right. But yeah, yeah, right. I guess that pass line of scrimmage I guess would be like the attempt. but yeah, I didn't Davis: I guess I I I didn't know that. I knew that if you bobbled the snap and you don't kick it, it's it you get a r to retry it. But yeah. I I guess you learn something new every day. I didn't realize that. Jackson: I could be a little off on that, but they were saying so they were saying that the only reason the ten second runoff came was because the guy's helmet came off. Davis: Right. Jackson: And I didn't realize it was because the helmet came off. I didn't have the audio on full blast. I was watching the game, but I couldn't hear all the stuff that they were talking about. So Davis: Yeah. Jackson: I was thinking that it was a ten second runoff because they blew it dead to review it and they didn't have a timeout. So like I didn't think they should be able to kick the ball. Let's just say they recovered the ball and the referees were already had in mind that they were gonna let them kick it again because it was third down. Well, there was like three seconds on the clock. The clock would have run out and they would have had zero time. So I thought that's why they were doing the runoff. But someone had a good point. I saw someone on Twitter make a video like I wish I could I wish I could hold on one second. You gotta Davis: Yeah, I'll just continue while while you're going through that. Indiana wins thirteen six in overtime. Just terrible offensive game from both teams. Texas Tech gets upset big against Cincinnati. UCLA pulls out the win against Michigan State. Vanderbilt loses to Kentucky, even though they were up ten zero in the second quarter. Alabama, Texas AM kind of a back and forth game until Alabama wins late. Minnesota, out Iowa's Iowa to win thirteen ten. Boise State thirty-one ten over Washington State. SMU routes California. And then JMU actually gets upset at App State. And the Dabo Sweeney tenure appears to get get closer to ending with Virginia Tech beating Clemson twenty to six. Jackson: Can't find the video. Anyways, we can we can scrap it. We'll we'll revisit this maybe next week when I find this video. Davis: Yeah, we got a Jackson: Alright, pink six. I don't need to review this 'cause we review it on every preview show, right? So I went Davis: Yeah. Yeah. I actually have a new model. did I tell you about that? I it it went eleven and one in the the last two weeks. It's it's called just tail John Stafford. So so John Jackson: There you go. Davis: Stafford, hit me up for next week's picks. Jackson: Yeah, you're gonna need his picks ASAP to to to to tail. Davis: I know. Yeah, go ahe we need to go ahead and say what g the games are. Jackson: Yeah, but all right, yeah. Davis went two and four, I went three and three. Season record, Davis says twenty six, thirty one and one. I am thirty, twenty seven and one. And we will move on. Plays of the week, Missed bad on Air Force. That was just a fluky game. their quarterback went down. they had all kinds of craziness happen and without the quarterback, they just could not do much of anything on offense. They had three turnovers, I believe, three fumbles, and they had not fumbled all season, and they had and lost three fumbles in that one game. So that was tough. Bama did not get it done against AM. Offense did not look as good as I thought it would. And then Kentucky. Does get the cover against Fanny from Davis: Yeah, I had to sacrifice my Texas Tech pick so that Jackson could get an upset of the week. So congrats to him. And then the the two unders hit. just barely for Alabama Texas AM. I don't think that there was any points in the fourth quarter of that game. So didn't look good for a second. the total ended up being fifty two. So or sorry, fifty one, so just under. Jackson: Season records, Davis 11-11. I am 10-11-1. So you pick it up there. All right, upset check. I finally hit one. I finally did it. And watch out. Cincinnati Davis: Yeah. Jackson: might do it again this week. They have Utah coming to town in the same situation as or similar situation as the week before with with Texas Tech. So watch out for Cincinnati this week too. They they could do it again. Davis: Yeah. We had three to pick from, I believe. Syracuse over UNC, Illinois over Oregon, and Cincinnati over Texas Tech. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. Big wild weekend. and West Virginia over TCU. Davis: Wow. So four out of the twelve. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, it was crazy. Crazy weekend, college football. Davis: Alright, so we're gonna play a little bit of a blind resume game here. so I know y'all are aware of how blind resumes work, but we have two teams and then we have different stats that we could pull up to review with the two teams. So part of this is a game of comparing comparing the two metrics. Another part of the game is to See if we can identify trends with maybe what metrics are more like hold more weight with the two teams. So the metrics that we have available to choose are the traditional offensive metrics like rush yards per game, yards per rush, pass yards per game, pass yards per attempt, and then we have that, but on defense, and then we have some advanced. stats that we like to reference rush EPA per play, success rate, pass EPA per play, and then the defensive version of those two. So we got Will to come up with team comparisons. So Jackson and I do not know the teams and we're going to select stats, talk through which resume looks better, and then Will will remove reveal the two teams. And we'll see how we did. That sound good? Make sense? Jackson: Yep, let's do it. Davis: Alright, so we have team A and Team B. Jackson and I don't know which team it is, and we're going to choose the stats, and then we'll compare from there. So I have the all the stats that I just read off at the disposal. I will go with you know what? I'll start it off with some of the traditional stats and we'll see how we do. So give me Rush yards per game. All right, so somewhat even between team A and Team B. let's go with rush yards allowed per game. So we got how good are you at running the ball, how good are you at stopping the run? And feel free to interject here, Jackson, but I'm just kind of talking through my thought process. Jackson: Yeah, I I I'm looking for some yeah, I'm looking for some some d okay, here we go. Here we go. So rush yards allowed per game, team A ninety nine point six, team Bs one fifty two point seven. Whoa. Okay, so that's a pretty big that's a pretty big gap. Davis: So we have two teams that are pretty good at running the ball, top thirty in the nation. One team that is far better at stopping the run versus the other one. All right, we get five stats. so we got we got the running side we got rushing and then let's go with the passing. Let's go pass yards per game. And we'll go pass yards allowed per game. Jackson: Alright, so pass yards allowed. One hundred seventy one is pretty good. that ranks seventeenth in the country. Yeah. Davis: Yeah, it ranks seventeenth in the country. And then but they rank eighty-second in pass yards per game. So two two similar rushing offenses, two similar passing offenses, and then the defense for team A is much better. so for my fifth and final stat, let's go with let's go yards per rush. Let's see how they efficient they are from a okay, that didn't give us anything. Jackson: This is a lot harder than I thought. It it's Davis: Yeah. Jackson: I feel like it's a lot easier when when you have like has a win against the number ten ranked team in the country. Like that Davis: Yeah. Th this isn't so much a blind resume as it is a blind statistical analysis of teams. So we don't have much differences between these two teams. The the biggest one is the pass yards allowed per game. Jackson: It's hard because they're not w so one sided. they're good in most of these, but they're not just great in any of Davis: Yeah, I'm I'm a s I think team A is better just 'cause that defense looks much better. I mean they're they're nineteenth in rush or is that tenth nineteenth in and rush yards allowed per game and seventeenth in pass yards per game. So I th I'm gonna go with team A, and if I had to guess which team team A is, I'm gonna say I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Notre Dame. Jackson: Okay. I am Davis: And I will say that Team B is I'm much weaker and I'll I'll let you guess, T and B, if you have a guess. Jackson: Well I've been working on team A. I think team team A could be Indiana. I think Team B could be let's see. Davis: I'm gonna say the team B is South Carolina. So we're both on the side that team A is better. Jackson: Yes. Davis: Is is what we're thinking from the stats that we have here. Jackson: Yeah, I really man. I don't have a I don't have a good guess for team B. Davis: All right, you want to go to the the reveal? Jackson: let's see the reveal. Davis: Wow, Nebraska t is team A Jackson: Wow. Davis: and Northwestern is team B. That's pretty shocking. I I would have thought that Northwestern was gonna be higher than twenty third in rush yards per game. Jackson: Yeah. And I think one thing that you have to keep in mind with these is this does not have anything to do with schedule. So like you you have to keep schedule in mind when you when you think about these teams. So but yeah, no, I agree. I still agree Davis: Well well and and and I and I think that Jackson: with you. Davis: so we we set a baseline with this these traditional stats. I'm hoping that the EPA and kind of the more analytical stats provide a clearer picture. So we set the baseline with the the traditional stats. I'm interested to see how we move forward, but this was surprising. we both took Nebraska over Northwestern given what we had here. I think that I think that Northwestern is is probably the better team. What about you? Jackson: Yeah, I would definitely I would definitely take Northwestern right now. Although Nebraska has looked like pretty good, I mean, so far this season. But yeah, I would I think I would take Northwestern with how things currently stand. Davis: Yeah. All right, let's go to a new reveal. Jackson, you'll choose the stats. Jackson: All Let's take a little bit of a different approach. Let's do some advanced metrics here. So let's start off with rush EPA per play. Get close. Davis: So we have sixty th sixty third percentile and eightieth percentile or sixtieth percentile, sorry. Jackson: Fifty third and sixty. Fifty three and sixty is percentile. So Davis: Yeah. Jackson: That doesn't help me much. All right, let's do passy paper play. Davis: All right, so we have the fourth ranked passing EPA per play team and the twenty sixth ranked passing EPA per per play team. Jackson: Do you think you know who it is based or do you think you have an idea of who you think you could be based off of just this? Or is I guess it's kinda still still fresh here? Davis: no, I mean I I know that it's a good passing team. Jackson: Alright, let's do let's do rush yards allowed per game and pass yards allowed per game. Davis: So we're going advanced stats on offense and then traditional stats on defense. I like it. So we have team B is the fifth ranked rush yards per game allowed and team A is the twenty fifth. and then let's get that pass yards up there as well. Jackson: So T May's pretty good. Davis: I mean team B has a great defense. They rank er according to these stats, they rank f sixth in rush yards allowed per game and eighteenth in pass yards allowed per game, while team A is fourth in EPA per pass play and then twenty fifth in rush yards per per game allowed and sixty eighth in pass yards per game allowed. Jackson: Yeah. Man, this is tough. We should have put conference as the last hand. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: See Davis: And these are two teams that are like we're not gonna compare a G six to a P four. so they should have relatively similar scal schedules. All right. Hit us with your your last stat that you want here. Jackson: You wanna go trad should we go traditional or advanced? Davis: Up to you. Jackson: Let's do Let's do rush success rate. Davis: So this team team A is not good at running the ball. They rank fifty-third percentile in rush EPA per play and thirty-fourth percentile in success rate. However, their pass EPA per play is fourth. And then you look at team B and they rank eighteenth in pass yards allowed per game and then sixty-third percentile in rush success rate. So really From this, it looks like Team A has a very good pass game and then is not great everywhere else. And then Team B has looks like the more rounded team. I would go, just from these stats alone, I would take Team B over Team A. Team A, I'm gonna guess, is SMU. And team B, I'm gonna guess. Is Jackson: Sorry, I'm getting a little close to the screen here. Davis: The team A is better at passing the ball and then very good at stopping the run. So I'm gonna go I I guess I'm just gonna stick with Notre Dame. No, I'm not gonna do Notre Dame. I'm gonna do Jackson: I'm gonna I'm gonna go Bama for team A, I think. Davis: You Obama, team A? I like that. That's a I like that. Team B, I will say Very good against the run. Jackson: Thought about Tennessee for team B. Davis: I'm gonna say Georgia is team B and I'm gonna go team B over team A. So I said SMU and Georgia and I'm choosing team B. Jackson: to go team A or I'm gonna go team B is Tennessee. I'm gonna choose team A as the better team here. Davis: Alright, let's reveal those teams. Wow. So Arizona is team A. led by Noah Fafita in that very good passing attack. And then team B is L S U. And then they have that great rushing defense, the very good passing defense. yeah. I I guess I was surprised at how good Arizona looked. Not surprised by LSU. I thought that they were Georgia. Kinda makes sense. I took team B over team A. I like where I was at. Jackson, you take in Arizona over LSU? Jackson: No. No, I'm not. I guess I should have gone a little more defensive metrics, like advanced metrics, for this one just to kind of get a more accurate comparison, but no, I'm taking LSU all day. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Arizona does have a great passing attack though. Not you know, these this stuff aside, like Noah Fita has really been dealing out there, so they are they're looking good. Davis: I would be curious to see how Arizona stacked up in some of the advanced metrics on pass defense allowed. sixty-six in pass yards allowed per game. Not terrible. I guess what I'm learning from this is Arizona, Arizona's their defense is a little better than I was thinking. All right, let's go to the next. Alright, so we did traditional stats, first one, did a little bit of a mix this last one. I think I'm gonna go just straight advanced metrics here. Let's go pass EPA per play and rush EPA per pla actually let's go rush success rate, pass success rate. Alright, so thirty-first and fiftieth percentile for team A and forty fifth and fifty second for team B. Alright, let's go the same success rates but for defense. All right, so team A fourteenth in rush success rate on defense and forty-fourth in pass success rate on defense, and then team B is thirteenth and fifteenth in this in the same metric. So looks like offensively both teams are pretty similar. Defensively, team B is much better against the pass. for the final one let's see if we can distinguish some of the the rushing numbers and let's go rush EPA replay here for the last one. Okay. Team B not good at all running the ball. This is tough. Jackson: the problem is I I I I sit here and and study one team on one side and I'm like I get a team in my head and I'm like, okay, nope, that now it can't be them. And then I just can't I can't think of any other team that would fit that. So let's see. Davis: you have two offenses that aren't great and then you have a very good rush defense. I think team A is Tennessee. No, no, they're better running the ball. Jackson: So really good at stopping the run. y you think team A could be Indiana? Davis: No, their passing success rate's way higher. Unless I know that probably Jackson: Not another better Yeah. Davis: dropped after this last game. Dude, this is tough 'cause this is two middle of the pack teams in in in all of these except for defensive rush success rate. Jackson: We know it's not Oklahoma. Davis: I know, I was gonna say Oklahoma until I looked at the offensive numbers. Yeah, do you have a guess for either one of these? I I I think if I'm gonna say who I think is better, I'm gonna go with team B. I guess team A more explosive on offense 'cause the rush EPA per play is better, but their success rate is not very good. So what's a offense that struggles moving the ball but has explosive plays? Jackson: I feel like we've covered a thousand of these teams and I just can't Can't think of which one which one that that lands in. shoot Missouri after after the the game last week against Ole Miss. I just don't think it's Missouri. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: is Florida one of these teams? Davis: I think that their rushing statistics would be much better. And their pass success rate's actually pretty good. All right, I'm ready for a reveal. Jackson: Yeah, I'm ready for a reel too. I don't even have a guess. I'm thinking Kentucky is also gonna get thrown in here at some point, but Davis: I think Will added a stat for us. Pass yards per game towards the very bottom in both of these. I'm gonna go Tennessee is is T May. And Jackson: Man, that's terrible. Passing yards per game ranks one nineteenth for team A and one twenty seventh for team B. Davis: Yeah, I'm gonna go I'm going Tennessee and I'm going Kentucky for the other one. Jackson: Kentucky's team B. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Oregon as team A and Kentucky as team B. Davis: That's it, the reveal. Jackson: I'm ready for the reveal. Davis: Wisconsin and Michigan. Jackson: the low we just covered I told you I was like we just cover one of these teams. Davis: Will's just hitting us with the Jackson: No, no, Davis: big ten teams. Jackson: Yeah, Will, we need some we need some versatility in here, man. We need to we need to mix it up. But yeah, no. I I I can't believe neither one of us said Michigan for the for the terrible offensive pass yards per game thing. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: all right, next one. I Davis: All right. You wanna split this one? How you wanna do this? Jackson: I'll let you take over, Davis. You've been pretty you've been better at Davis: I kinda wanna just know everything about this passing offense. So let's go passing success rate. wow, okay. Ninety-eighth percentile, ninety-eighth percentile. Alright, let's go pass EPA per play. All right, I'm all right, I know everything I need to know about this passing offense. What they're two elite passing let's look at the rushing. Let's just go to rush EPA for play. eighty-second percentile for team A, fifty-six percentile for team B. all right, let's go with let's do a defensive stat here and do pass success rate on defense and rush success rate on defense for my last two. Alright, so Team A ranks fourth in defensive rush success rate and forty-fifth defensive pass success rate. Team B is thirty-third and second. I mean these these gotta be two of the top ten teams in the nation, if I had to guess. two elite passing offenses Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. I'm gonna say team Davis: and then a very good Rush defense for one of them and a very good pass defense for the other one. Jackson: So team B's the pass defense and then team A has a better rush defense. Man. You have a gu I I I have a feeling one of them may be Notre Dame. I'm just trying to decide which one. Davis: I'm team team A is Miami. I'm pretty I'm pretty positive. Jackson: Yeah. Davis: Unless I'm underselling it. Because Miami has a very good, obviously great passing attack, but they also have a very good rush defense. I think team A is Miami. Team B, I'm gonna say is I w I wish can we get one more? Let's do pass yards per game. I think these pass rates might be on the lower volume. I'm thinking team B has a good like passing metrics, but it's a lower volume, so it's it's a little less sample size. We'll see about this pass yards per game though. Will B: team B averages three hundred and twenty three point one with rank's fifth nationally. Davis: Okay. Wow. All right. Well, I'm glad I looked at that because I was thinking in the wrong direction. All right. So Team B is one of the best passing teams in the nation just from a pure volume and a very good efficient team. I don't think that Miami has the pass yard volume just because they're up in so many games. So I like Miami for team A. Team B. What team is just throwing the hell out of the ball? Jackson: Wake Forest? Davis: Mm-hmm. Jackson: I don't know. That may be a little high for them. I don't know if I don't know if he's throwing for that many yards, but Davis: I I don't Jackson: Oregon State, I mean I don't know how good their defense is though. Davis: Can k we we're we're in power four conferences, right, Will? Will B: Yeah, these are both. Davis: All right. Jackson: you you have a you have a guess for team B? Ohio State? No? There's no way they're not that good past them. Davis: Dude, maybe it is just Miami. No, I wanna stick with team A as Miami. team B is it? Is it SMU? Jackson: Dude, SMU's offense is kinda struggle. Davis: Wake Forest it was a good Jackson: Yeah. Davis: guess. what what teams are passing the hell out of the ball on in the SEC? Jackson: Nobody, really. Davis: Yeah, I don't think that it's Jackson: Not n nobody that's gonna look like this. I don't think. Davis: No, I think I think team B is I think team B is LSU. Miami and LSU. Notre Dame and Ohio State. Ohio State is is throwing the hell out of the ball. Jackson: That's surprising. Davis: That is surprising. Jackson: That's surprising to me. I I did not realize Ohio State was their their passing numbers were that good. So that Davis: Yeah. Jackson: was an interesting one to look at. Davis: Yeah. Can can we pull up Miami? Can we do a not blind resume and do Miami versus Ohio State? Same stats. I'm curious to see how far off I was with Miami. Since I guessed him twice, I think. Okay, Miami was number one in pass EPA per play. Jackson: Hundred percentile. Davis: And then yeah, so they had the highest pass EPA per play, but not a very high pass yards per game. just because they're ahead in literally every game. And then do the success rates too. Yeah, number one in passes, that's right. And then so that's Miami and Ohio State. Yeah. I was directionally accurate with my with my Miami guess, so to speak. Jackson: Yeah. All right. That was fun. Fun new segment. Thanks, Davis, for building that website. You grinded on that. I appreciate it. viewers, make sure to thank Davis for for his work on the website. Thank you, Will, for for Davis: Yeah. Jackson: proving that we know nothing for a few minutes and yeah. That was fun. Davis: Yeah. Behind the scenes. So that was harder than I expected. I don't think five stats is enough to really tell us about a team. it was interesting that we didn't really get a lot of signal going just traditional stats or just advanced stats, which is kind of the reason that we use both. I mean don't I don't think that we wanna just rely on the traditional stats and and we definitely don't wanna tie our hands behind our back and only use the advanced stats because in everything in life context matters. So try to pull everything and I think that this game, somewhat in a roundabout way, proved it I guess proved our process, so to speak. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, no, I agree. Davis: But I think that was that was fun. I definitely think we should do it again with a more of a resume thing later in the year. Maybe we can compare fringe playoff teams and it'll be like a strength of record and wins versus AP teams, AP top teams and and whatnot. But yeah, that was good to just dive into the numbers alone and kind of compare Definitely got thrown off a couple spots. Jackson: Yeah.
