Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_17: We're back for another episode of Quarter Horse Racing Talk Weekly Podcast.
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: This is the Racing Edition going into the month of September.
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: It's where we go in depth talking to the connections for some of the top runners this year in several divisions as we will be focusing on the headline makers of 2026.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: So it's no special guest this week.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: It's just racing, racing, and more racing.
- 0:21SPEAKER_02: It's Quarter Horse Racing Talk Weekly for August 27th.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: And here's your host, Greg Thompson.
- 0:27SPEAKER_06: And hello again, everyone.
- 0:36SPEAKER_06: And we got lots to talk about on this edition as we're going to look really in-depth at the racing year thus far, almost like kind of like a year in review up to this point thus far, as we're going into the All-American within two weeks.
- 0:50SPEAKER_06: And along the way, we're actually going to talk about some of the top runners that have made the headlines this year, as well as talking about what we can expect for them for the rest of the year.
- 1:00SPEAKER_06: Of course, a lot of them that have qualified going into this big weekend there in Albuquerque for the All-American Futurity, we kind of already know where they're going to be, but we're going to look at multiple divisions as we're forecasting the big weekends in Albuquerque for the Bank of America Challenge Championships, as well as looking forward to the Lone Star Park meet later in the fall, as well as who's going to show up there at Los Alamitas in the Champion of Champions, as well as the Los Al 2 million.
- 1:29SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of racing still left on the calendar in 2026, but what we're going to do is we're going to look at those headline makers and their plans for the rest of the year, and that's going to be our focus on this episode.
- 1:41SPEAKER_06: And as usual, we got a big bulky preview section where we talk about the big upcoming races for this weekend and recap a bunch of great stakes races that happened the past weekend across the country as well as up into Canada as we look at one of the challenge championship races that happened up there at Century Mile.
- 2:00SPEAKER_06: So don't go away.
- 2:01SPEAKER_06: This episode is for you racing junkies out there that like to talk about racing and like to discuss all these big stakes horses that are making the headlines.
- 2:10SPEAKER_06: And we'll be right back after these words from our sponsor.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: The countdown is on.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: The Heritage Place September yearl sale for 2026.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Over a thousand yearlings offered at the industry leading sale, September 16th through the 19th in Oklahoma City at Heritage Place, the place where champions are sold.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: A tremendously talented stallion roster of Roboshow Ranch.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: Grade 1 producing A Political Blood, Multiple Stakes Sire, and Grade 1 winning Goldheart Eagle V, the sire of leading 3-year-old beautiful, KV in Corona, AQHA Champion Sire tempting Dash, and the All-American Juvenile winning Visa, all standing in Bro Bridge, Louisiana.
- 2:51SPEAKER_06: Alright, we're back here in the recap section, ready to look at some of the older horses, the older males in the division that are the headliners up until this point in 2026.
- 3:03SPEAKER_06: And probably the first horse that made great big headlines in the older horse male division stems all the way back to winning the Sunland Park Championship, the grade one event back in the early part of the year, and that is Toast and Heroes out of the barn of Clint Crawford.
- 3:18SPEAKER_21: It was a good start for KJ Desperado and KJ Born to Be Wild, RC Corona King also emerging.
- 3:25SPEAKER_21: Here's FTD Dreams putting in his advance to the inside.
- 3:29SPEAKER_21: Then behind that one, Toasted Heroes, FDD Dreams to the inside.
- 3:33SPEAKER_21: Here comes the bid though in the goal for Toasted Heroes! Toasted Heroes in a monumental upset over both FTD Dreams and RC Corona King.
- 3:45SPEAKER_06: And then Toast and Heroes went from that win into the D-Raper, the restricted grade one event, and faced another multitude of big-time named runners in the division and came home a winner.
- 3:56SPEAKER_12: They're off of the D-Raper Sooner State stakes.
- 3:58SPEAKER_12: And coming along, Toast and Heroes.
- 4:00SPEAKER_12: Toast and Heroes making it strong, big now.
- 4:02SPEAKER_12: And Toast and Heroes takes the lead outside Toast and Heroes in the Sooner State by a half-length over impressum who rally for second.
- 4:09SPEAKER_06: After that win in April, trainer Clint Crawford said he's pointing directly to the Debbie Shaff in the meet-ending Grade 1 event for the older horses, but came home a disappointing seventh in that effort.
- 4:20SPEAKER_06: We were able to talk with All-American Futurity winning trainer Clint Crawford about this valiant hero gilding for the year that he's had thus far, as well as what's on tap for the rest of 2026.
- 4:33SPEAKER_06: All right, on the phone with trainer Clint Crawford.
- 4:35SPEAKER_06: Clint, we're talking Toastin Heroes, ran a huge race to win the championship at Sunland Park Stakes, the grade one event, turns around in the D Raper Stakes there at Remington Park, runs a huge race in that restricted grade one.
- 4:49SPEAKER_06: Talk to me about those two big wins.
- 4:51SPEAKER_14: You know, the horse was just at the top of his game.
- 4:54SPEAKER_14: You know, I mean, he's been training really good uh going into both of those races.
- 4:59SPEAKER_14: And uh and he and he did really well in both of them.
- 5:01SPEAKER_14: You know, he just you couldn't ask for a horse to be in a better spot, you know, in his life.
- 5:06SPEAKER_14: And he was he was just right and ready.
- 5:08SPEAKER_14: And uh he ran two great races.
- 5:10SPEAKER_14: Then he you've seen when I ran him back in the uh Debbie Shaw, sure enough, he two or three days later, he's got a hundred and three tenths and he was trying to come down sick on us, you know, and he ran a real flat race that day.
- 5:24SPEAKER_14: You know, but now he's back on his game and you know we're we got him in Albuquerque as of right now.
- 5:29SPEAKER_06: So the goal is to run him in the gold cup there in the All-American Gold Cup, and but what's once we get past the gold cup is especially if something goes well and and he does well and he comes out of it well, what does the rest of the calendar year look like for him, Clint?
- 5:43SPEAKER_14: We're gonna try to uh run him in the uh the championship there in Albuquerque.
- 5:48SPEAKER_14: And uh, you know, I think there's a if you can win that, there's a burst to go on to California, and so that's that's kind of the direction we're headed, and we're gonna see if we can get it done.
- 5:57SPEAKER_06: Yancey, this horse really kind of stepped up and started performing at a grade one level.
- 6:03SPEAKER_06: I wouldn't say he was necessarily indicating that he was going to be this kind of a runner as he went into his four-year-old year, but my gosh, he started off the year with a bang and then came back again in the D-Raper.
- 6:16SPEAKER_06: And he's facing big name horses in both of these events.
- 6:19SPEAKER_06: KJ Desperado, there's Impressum was in the D-Raper.
- 6:23SPEAKER_06: He was just spectacular.
- 6:25SPEAKER_15: Yeah, and as we go throughout talking about all these horses, I've kind of compared them to athletes in other sports or things in other sports, and Toast and Heroes, I kind of compared to Luca Donchitz.
- 6:36SPEAKER_15: And why I say that is if you look at some of the top horses in our game over the last couple years, it's been impressive, KJ Desperado.
- 6:44SPEAKER_15: And Toastin Heroes looks like he's kind of ready to take over if he keeps continuing, and that's what I just kind of like Luca.
- 6:51SPEAKER_15: Like he's kind of the new up-and-coming superstar face of the league.
- 6:55SPEAKER_15: And like you said, in the Sutherland Park Championship, I mean, he beat several of the horses we're gonna talk about later in this list, and he also beat the reigning champion and champions runner FDD Dreams.
- 7:06SPEAKER_15: And so if he's on his game, I look for him to be the top older horse in the game for the future as we go along.
- 7:13SPEAKER_06: And also, he's going in the All-American Gold Cup, has mentioned what Clint Crawford said.
- 7:17SPEAKER_06: The next step after the Gold Cup would be the Albuquerque Championship there at the grade one event, which is a qualifying race to get you into the champion of champions.
- 7:28SPEAKER_06: And as Clint Crawford had mentioned, that is the goal.
- 7:31SPEAKER_06: So we'll see if this valiant hero Gelding can step up and really bounce back from that poor performance he had in the Debbie Schaaf there at Remington and maybe get into the scenario where he's in the field of the Champion of Champions.
- 7:45SPEAKER_06: Shifting gears and talking about the legend, Impressum, who at eight years old is still going along strong and turning heads even in 2026, as he goes forth in his potential season that he will see maybe his fifth start in the champion and champion stakes there at Los Alamitas.
- 8:03SPEAKER_06: As thus far this year, he's been pretty much on his game.
- 8:07SPEAKER_06: As in the restricted Grade 1 Sooner State stakes, he finished second just behind Toast and Heroes, but rose to the occasion at the end of May in the Debischaff Remington Park Invitational Championship stakes, the grade one event.
- 8:20SPEAKER_12: They're off for the Debbie Schaaf Remage Park Championship.
- 8:23SPEAKER_12: Good start for KJ Desperado and Cowboys Guns Z from Bill of the Gates Detson right there toward the inside Church Spire running on, along with Shaker's Know the Secret, trying to make up ground on the outside is KJ Desperado hooked and gone and impressive trying to fire.
- 8:35SPEAKER_12: It's not happening yet.
- 8:36SPEAKER_12: Churchpire still battling on.
- 8:38SPEAKER_12: Here it comes impressive with a late surge.
- 8:40SPEAKER_12: Impressive and KJ Desperado knows it's on the line.
- 8:42SPEAKER_12: Those two.
- 8:43SPEAKER_12: Photo finish of the Debbie Schoff Reming Spark Championship.
- 8:46SPEAKER_06: And we were able to talk to co-owner Steve Holt on the phone about this impressive son of apolitical Jess.
- 8:54SPEAKER_06: All right, on the phone with co-owner Steve Holt.
- 8:57SPEAKER_06: Steve, first off, talk about that big Debbie Schoff win there in Oklahoma at Remington Park.
- 9:04SPEAKER_13: You know, uh he probably he's run some great races in his lifetime, but that might have been probably one of the more impressive ones because you know he was beat away.
- 9:15SPEAKER_13: He just stepped out and everybody was gone and had to find a lane, and everybody kind of stayed in their lane, which was our benefit.
- 9:23SPEAKER_13: And you know, like Del V said, he just beat him the last jump.
- 9:27SPEAKER_13: So with a horse with that remarkable career he's had, and to say that might have been his best effort, uh, I have to say it is.
- 9:36SPEAKER_06: Yes, you know, Steve, with these scenarios pop up where you have this horse that's so well accomplished and really doesn't owe the owner anything.
- 9:44SPEAKER_06: You it's just you're you're is it kind of like you're waiting on this horse to give you any indication that he's finished with his racing career?
- 9:51SPEAKER_06: And clearly impressum's not giving you that signal.
- 9:54SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I mean, you couldn't be more right.
- 9:56SPEAKER_13: That's exactly how we've dealt it.
- 9:59SPEAKER_13: We didn't know if we'd even run him this year, but you know, the horse loves what he does.
- 10:04SPEAKER_13: Uh he's just a true professional.
- 10:07SPEAKER_13: You know, I kind of give him some time off, and we're we're gonna kind of work him back from the champion of champions.
- 10:14SPEAKER_13: And uh, you know, our goal right now is probably to look at possibly the championship at Albuquerque, and that would be maybe the only race we do before the champion of champions.
- 10:28SPEAKER_06: You know, Yancey, he's been one of my favorite horses.
- 10:31SPEAKER_06: Uh we've been in an era where we've had some really outstanding great older horses that we've been able to view.
- 10:39SPEAKER_06: Jesse's first down, danger, and of course impress him would be in that category of just the bona fide top-of-the list type older horse in the sport as it pertains to the history of the sport.
- 10:51SPEAKER_06: And I tend to agree with Steve that Debbie Schaft was extremely impressive.
- 10:56SPEAKER_06: I, you know, as much as I want to go along with it, but then again, I wasn't the owner there cheering this horse on and watching him spurt through the middle of those other horses there in the Debbie Shaff, but it's hard to compare back when he won the champion of champions when he was coming flying on the outside, beating horses like danger there in California.
- 11:15SPEAKER_06: But I think that it's amazing that this horse is still at the same level and still winning big big grade one races at his age.
- 11:22SPEAKER_15: Yes, couldn't agree with both of you more.
- 11:25SPEAKER_15: I I think that was the race of the year with the Debbie Schaaf.
- 11:28SPEAKER_15: He looked every bit of how Impressum's looked the last five years.
- 11:33SPEAKER_15: I mean, if um Toast and Heroes is Luca of the sport, I put this as the LeBron James of our sport.
- 11:40SPEAKER_15: He has been, if not one of the best for the last eight years, and he just continues to show how impressive he is.
- 11:49SPEAKER_06: So if Impressum steps up and makes it there in the gate there in December at Los Alamitas, he would tie as the all-time leader with refrigerator as the most appearances in a champion of champions of of any horse in history.
- 12:05SPEAKER_15: Yes, and he's a two-time winner already.
- 12:08SPEAKER_15: So if he wins wins it three times, that would be an impressive feat.
- 12:12SPEAKER_06: The next older horse to look at is the great KJ Desperado, the all-time winningest quarter horse by earnings with$3.448 million earned on the racetrack from 35 starts out of the barn of West Giles, who had seen some big wins in the all-American Futurity as a two-year-old, as well as a Texas Classic Futurity win, another million dollar event, a win in the Riadosa Derby as a three-year-old, a second place finish in the Rainbow Derby, and then of course capping it off with a win in the Texas Classic Derby, a grade one event, before finishing second in the championship at Sunland Park, a grade one event.
- 12:49SPEAKER_06: He's gone on to win the Gold Cup as a four-year-old, the refrigerator at Lone Star as a four-year-old, and at five years of age, and has developed a little bit of second itis since 2024 of December, where he finished second in the Zia Park Invitational, the Championship at Sunlin, the Turf Paradise Championship Stout Challenge Stakes, and most recently in July, ran a second in allowance company, but just missed there in the Debbie Schoff as we would be talking about how he's one of the top horses in the country if he would have been able to pull off that win against Impressive.
- 13:26SPEAKER_06: But Wes Giles always has these horses dialed in, and we were able to talk to him about this talented, all-time winningest quarter horse that he has in his barn and about what 2026 looks like moving forward.
- 13:41SPEAKER_06: On the phone with trainer Wes Giles, Wes, you got two really standout older horses in the older horse division, KJ Desperado and KJ Bad Moon Rising.
- 13:51SPEAKER_06: Let's start with the all-time winningest runner, KJ Desperado, fifth in the Sunland Championship this year, second in the Turf Paradise Challenge, second in the Debbie Shaw, and uh second in allowance last time out.
- 14:03SPEAKER_06: He's uh scene he's working there in Albuquerque.
- 14:06SPEAKER_06: What's kind of next for this big runner?
- 14:08SPEAKER_08: Well, it's probably the All-American Gold Cup, but it probably depends where we draw out, whether we run him or not.
- 14:16SPEAKER_08: And that's not saying nothing about the track, but he just doesn't really care for the inside here.
- 14:22SPEAKER_08: So maybe it'd probably depend how we draw, whether we run him here or not.
- 14:27SPEAKER_06: If all goes things well in the All-American Gold Cup and you move on from there, is the Albuquerque Championship.
- 14:36SPEAKER_06: And then possibly go on to California with him.
- 14:38SPEAKER_08: Impossible California.
- 14:40SPEAKER_06: The other one you have in the barn, KJ Bad Moon Rising, the winner of the Just Burner, as well as the Zia Stakes, uh, this New Mexico bread there.
- 14:49SPEAKER_06: Uh, talk about this runner this year.
- 14:51SPEAKER_06: He's he's really come alive.
- 14:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and this that horse, this horse actually loves this racetrack.
- 14:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean, he's always seemed to run his best races at this racetrack.
- 15:00SPEAKER_08: So that's one reason we're probably gonna try to renominating him to the All-American Gold Cup and then uh see where it goes from there.
- 15:09SPEAKER_08: Uh there's still a New Mexico stakes here later on during the Albuquerque meet.
- 15:15SPEAKER_06: Is it is it out of the the sort if this horse goes and steps up and runs a gigantic race in the All-American Gold Cup, if he goes forth and and possibly can bounce on into the Albuquerque Championship?
- 15:29SPEAKER_08: Possibly.
- 15:30SPEAKER_08: Just depends how on how he stacks up, you know, this time, but uh that and and maybe possibly California for him also.
- 15:38SPEAKER_08: But it just probably, you know, it's just all race by race.
- 15:41SPEAKER_08: So it it just if he's feeling invincible at that time, then that's where you go.
- 15:46SPEAKER_08: And if not, you think he backed down.
- 15:47SPEAKER_06: So this year he's been, you know, knocking on the door, I would say, is the answer to that.
- 15:53SPEAKER_06: He was fifth in the Sunland Championship behind Toast and Heroes, went out to try to get qualified into the challenge championship there at Turf Paradise, ran a second, and then of course ran a second to impress him there in the Debbie Shaft.
- 16:07SPEAKER_06: I would say that he's been a solid older horse this year, but not necessarily the leader of the division.
- 16:14SPEAKER_06: And uh, in order to kind of step it up and make it into the champion of champions, he's gonna have to run one big giant race, and it's most likely going to be there at the Albuquerque Championship.
- 16:24SPEAKER_15: I'm gonna go basketball one more time on you.
- 16:26SPEAKER_15: KJ Desperado, to me, I put he's the Kevin Durant of our sport.
- 16:30SPEAKER_15: Reason being, if you go over the last decade and you look who's the richest NBA player over the last decade, everyone would think LeBron James.
- 16:40SPEAKER_06: That's exactly who I would say.
- 16:47SPEAKER_15: Kevin Durant has made the most money.
- 16:49SPEAKER_15: He's had the biggest contracts.
- 16:51SPEAKER_15: And KJ Desperado being the richest horse in our sport.
- 16:55SPEAKER_15: I mean, he's a super nice horse.
- 16:56SPEAKER_15: It's all it all depends on which KJ shows up.
- 17:00SPEAKER_15: If he runs the race back that he ran in the Debbie Shaw, I think he's every bit as talented and as good and can't beat any older horse in the country.
- 17:08SPEAKER_15: But he does show those times where he's not as impressive or doesn't look as good, but never can count him out if his best is there, that's for sure.
- 17:18SPEAKER_06: Now the next older horse to look at in this division is Lethal Cowboy 123, who has already earned a birth into the champion and champions, but we're getting way ahead of ourselves.
- 17:28SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about this talented flying cowboy 123 gilding as we go back all the way back when he first made headlines in the 2024 LoSale 2 million futurity, where he ran away with it, earned a huge speed figure number to win that victory.
- 17:43SPEAKER_06: Now bounces into his three-year-old campaign has what I would call a fairly rough campaign, only coming home a winner in the Sgt.
- 17:51SPEAKER_06: Pepper feature handicap, failed to qualify into the Rainbow Derby, failed to qualify in the Riadoso Derby, but did qualify in the Grade 1 Losal Super Derby, but wound up running fourth before bouncing into this four-year-old campaign where he ran a second in the grade one Brad McKenzie winner championship stakes before heading east over to Oklahoma City to run second behind Churchpire in the Grade 1 Leo stakes in May of 2026.
- 18:18SPEAKER_06: 28 days later, he's in the field for the Debbie Shaw, but runs an eighth place finish, not necessarily a bad race, as a lot of them were right across the track when the winners hit the wire, so he wasn't too terribly far behind.
- 18:32SPEAKER_06: Churchpire, KJ Desperado, as well as the winner impressive.
- 18:36SPEAKER_06: But most importantly, back out to California, June 28, 2026.
- 18:41SPEAKER_06: Lethal Cowboy 123 goes forth in the vessel's maturity.
- 18:46SPEAKER_04: Racing! Scoop's dynasty stumbled badly.
- 18:49SPEAKER_04: Lethal Cowboy 123 came away beautifully straight and powerfully.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: Cattail Cove likewise.
- 18:56SPEAKER_04: Joan Cartel and CMJ be a cowboy next.
- 19:00SPEAKER_04: Lethal Cowboys in front from Captail Cove.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: Lethal Cowboy One Two Three stretches away magnificently.
- 19:08SPEAKER_06: With that win, he earns a berth into the 2026 field of the Champion of Champions.
- 19:14SPEAKER_06: And as of recently, went forth in the grade one Go Man Go handicap and just missed a win by a half a length to Jose Flores' train mass mandate.
- 19:24SPEAKER_06: As we were able to get on the phone with trainer Mark Youngers to talk to him about the path to the Champion of Champions from this point to December, they're at Los Alamitas.
- 19:36SPEAKER_06: On the phone with trainer Mark Youngers, Mark's got two standout older horses, both of them with intentions of pointing towards Los Alamitas for December.
- 19:45SPEAKER_06: So what Mark, let's start with Lethal Cowboy 123.
- 19:49SPEAKER_06: Talk about the year that he's had thus far, and of course, talk about the target.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, this horse has just been phenomenal.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Lethal Cowboys and we got him to California pretty quick, you know, uh for the year.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: And he ran second into the championship, got beat a nose, came back, we win the vessels, and that'd be that security spot to the champion of champions.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: We ran in a game second to the night in the go man go.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: We're just trying to keep him fresh and happy, and he's doing well in California.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: So obviously our goal is to go win the champion and champions with him, but um we'll we'll play it by year, but our next spot is for him.
- 20:23SPEAKER_06: And the Go Man Go is here on August 22nd, I believe, all the way to December, which is a four-month span.
- 20:31SPEAKER_06: How many races do you think that is possible or or more than likely that we will see him in going towards being fresh to get there and the gate of at Los Alamitas for the Champion of Champions?
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: We will probably target him for the championship or later, you know, gives him some time here in October.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: He he's funny.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: He knew he got beaten, he's not real happy.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: So he's a you know, he passed back.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: We were hooked up and we ran by the horse on the instant on the outside of him, and then the eight horse comes on the outside and went to race.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: So he's a little, you know, it's funny.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: These animals, they know what's going on.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: They make very good at the the surroundings, and they know when they go get your picture made.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: So he's a little kicked off, so he wants some uh redemption.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: So we'll run in.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: I would say, you know, run him in the championship here coming up, and then from that point, we'll probably just sit chilly and let him relax, and then kind of we'll, you know, again, the horse is doing great, training great, and kind of let him tell me what he wants to do.
- 21:29SPEAKER_06: So you know, Yancey, he's got a bit of seconditis in him, uh, this lethal cowboy one two three, especially in the year of 2026.
- 21:37SPEAKER_06: I realize he's running with the the top horses in the entire country and in the entire world as it pertains to the older quarter horse division.
- 21:46SPEAKER_06: He was second in the Brad McKenzie, he was second in the Leo to Church Spire, he was eighth in the Debbie Schaaf, ran a, you know, uh just not necessarily the best race of his career, but then comes back, wins the vessels in grade one fashion.
- 22:00SPEAKER_06: Earns a birth into the champion of champions.
- 22:02SPEAKER_06: Heroes of late last week ran a second to mask mandate in the go man go handicap.
- 22:08SPEAKER_15: Yeah, couldn't agree with you more.
- 22:10SPEAKER_15: Letho Cowboy, one, two, three.
- 22:13SPEAKER_15: It seems like he's always super, super tough, but more often than not, he's the second best horse.
- 22:19SPEAKER_15: But I did put he's the California surfer boy of racing.
- 22:24SPEAKER_15: He looks super good to look at, and he is tough to beat at California.
- 22:29SPEAKER_15: California is definitely his home.
- 22:30SPEAKER_15: He's won the Golden State million, the Los Al two million.
- 22:34SPEAKER_15: He ran fourth in the Los Alamitos Super Derby.
- 22:37SPEAKER_15: His win this year, grade one win this year, was in California.
- 22:42SPEAKER_15: Two starts back.
- 22:43SPEAKER_15: So he's never run worse than fourth at Los Alamitos, and that was in the grade one super derby.
- 22:50SPEAKER_15: Other than that, he's run first or second every time.
- 22:52SPEAKER_15: So if he's fresh and ready to go, he'll be a horse beaten the champion of champions for sure.
- 22:58SPEAKER_06: In past episodes of the Quarter Horse Racing Talk podcast, I talked with Mark Youngers about horses for courses.
- 23:05SPEAKER_06: And without a doubt, Lethal Cowboy 123 seems to have an affinity for California there at Los Alamitas and should be really tough.
- 23:12SPEAKER_06: And as mentioned, he's earned a birth, so he'll be there in the gate as long as his health holds up and he's sound.
- 23:19SPEAKER_06: By the time we reach December, he'll be there in the gate.
- 23:22SPEAKER_06: And Mark Youngers has intentions, all intentions of having two in the gate there as they kick it for the Champion of Champions of 2026.
- 23:30SPEAKER_06: And Yancey will continue this preview of the older male division, and we'll be right back after these words from our sponsor.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: Standing at the Louisiana Center for Equine Reproduction in Opalousis is the grade one winning Eagles Fly Higher.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: He's got one yearling in the Riadoso Select Yearling sale and five in the Heritage Place yearling sale this sales season.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: Check out his talented pool of runners, and you'll most definitely find yourself in the winner circle.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: Eagles Fly Higher.
- 23:59SPEAKER_06: Uncle D, the second leading third crop sire in the country.
- 24:06SPEAKER_06: Not only a grade one winner, but a grade one producer.
- 24:15SPEAKER_06: Giving you 50,000 reasons to look at Uncle D yearlings at this upcoming summer sales.
- 24:25SPEAKER_06: Check out the four yearlings at the Riadosa Select Yearlings Sale.
- 24:30SPEAKER_06: And check out the 30 yearlings at the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City.
- 24:36SPEAKER_06: Standing at Prestige Equine in Roswell, New Mexico, and paving the path for the next champions.
- 24:44SPEAKER_06: Uncle D.
- 24:47SPEAKER_17: Alright, let's get back to the podcast.
- 24:50SPEAKER_06: Alright, we're back and ready to look at some of the big names in the older horse division, and the one that I really think is extremely unique, Yancy, is the horse out in California by the name of Cat Tel Cove.
- 25:02SPEAKER_06: Now, there's such great stories in Quarter Horse Racing, and Cat Tel Cove is certainly one of those, as he is a nine-year-old and he's competing at the level that's usually reserved for horses that are much younger than him.
- 25:14SPEAKER_06: And he's still knocking heads with some of the top horses in the entire country, as he is closing in on almost$900,000 in earnings with 63 starts to his credit.
- 25:24SPEAKER_06: As he is one of the old guys in quarter horse racing that's still around and kicking out of the barn of Juan Alamon and owned by Link Newcomb.
- 25:32SPEAKER_06: As this guy is a multiple stakes winner, including a grade one winner in the Spencer Childers from last year.
- 25:38SPEAKER_06: As it pertains to this year, they've been very conservative with his campaign, starting off the year in April with a win in the Kawaii Bar handicap, a grade three event.
- 25:49SPEAKER_04: Racing! Show and tell cartel broke outwards and bumped Winner's Chair.
- 25:53SPEAKER_04: Cattail Cove's away cleanly, and CM Jesse be a cowboy's down the outside from Cheetah.
- 25:59SPEAKER_04: It's Winner's Chair, CM Jesse be a cowboy, Cattail Cove and Cheetah, show and tell Cartel, blanket finish, close.
- 26:06SPEAKER_04: I think Cattail Cove on the inside in a blanket finish.
- 26:10SPEAKER_04: I believe Cattail Cove has won the Koya Bardi's fifth attempt.
- 26:15SPEAKER_06: Then he comes back and runs a second in the vessel's maturity before returning in the Spencer Childers Breeders Championship and running a third as the pursuit is there to try to get him into another version of the Champion of Champions, which he has previously participated in.
- 26:30SPEAKER_06: And I was able to talk with trainer Juan Aleman about this grand old man of quarter horse racing.
- 26:38SPEAKER_06: All right, on the phone with trainer Juan Aleman won.
- 26:41SPEAKER_06: Let's talk with the older horse, Catel Cove.
- 26:44SPEAKER_06: Talk about this horse's 2026 as well as what we can hopefully forecast moving forward.
- 26:50SPEAKER_09: Well, you're you know, he's he's an old timer now.
- 26:53SPEAKER_09: You know, we call him the uh grandpa there at the at the barn as the oldest horse we have there, and uh he's just been an amazing animal.
- 27:01SPEAKER_09: Uh to to do what he has done, uh the age he's doing it at is uh pretty amazing.
- 27:07SPEAKER_09: Um we skipped the goal man go last week just to give him a break because you know he's he's not he's not a young horse anymore, so we kind of spaced his races out.
- 27:16SPEAKER_09: So uh we're gonna head to the Z Wayne Griffith trials to try to get a bird to the champion of champions.
- 27:21SPEAKER_09: That's probably his next outing.
- 27:24SPEAKER_06: Yancy, another impressive horse that's stayed in training the this long.
- 27:28SPEAKER_06: Give hats off to the one Alaman Barnes.
- 27:32SPEAKER_06: 63 starts with this guy, and he's nearing 900,000 in earnings if he can do well in the Boniface and potentially do very well in the Champion of Champions.
- 27:42SPEAKER_06: We're looking maybe at one of the newest millionaires in quarter horse racing.
- 27:46SPEAKER_15: Yeah, and and as you said, if he can win or do good in these next coming races, he he will have made a million dollars the hard way.
- 27:54SPEAKER_15: And I went away from sports in this one.
- 27:56SPEAKER_15: To me, Cattail Cove's like the 68 Mustang of our sport, you know.
- 28:00SPEAKER_15: Every once in a while, the shows that hey, I'm just as good and I'm just as fast as all these new supercars and all that.
- 28:07SPEAKER_15: And that's kind of what Cattail Cove is.
- 28:09SPEAKER_15: He's hard knocker every time in every race, doesn't always win them, but man, he's been consistent.
- 28:16SPEAKER_15: And in the Spencer Childers, he ran third, but he really impressed me.
- 28:20SPEAKER_15: He was dead last at the break, like three to four lengths behind, and came flying at the end to barely miss by less than the length.
- 28:30SPEAKER_15: And he's a super cool horse, he's one of my favorites to watch, and it's just impressive what Juana Ollman and his team has done with this horse.
- 28:38SPEAKER_06: Yes, and he's, you know, if you go back in the vessel's maturity, the grade one event, would have gotten into the Champion of Champions if he actually won.
- 28:46SPEAKER_06: He barely missed by three quarters of a length, and then of course comes back.
- 28:50SPEAKER_06: Spencer Childers almost wins that one as well, comes from way out of it, and you know, just completely knocking on the door.
- 28:58SPEAKER_06: And as mentioned in the the interview with Alamon, Juan says that, you know, they're going to preserve this horse as much as they can to try to get him into the gate there in December.
- 29:09SPEAKER_06: So definitely looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year has to hold for this old guy.
- 29:13SPEAKER_06: Now it's time to talk about the six-year-old California bread, up for everything, out of the barn of Scott Willoughby and owned by Ed Ulrid.
- 29:21SPEAKER_06: As this runner has showed up on the radar in graded stakes, but really hasn't jumped to the top of the list until July of this year, when he ran a huge effort there, the Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship handicapped, the restricted grade one event for cowbreds.
- 29:37SPEAKER_06: But earlier this year, but just earlier in the month in the Independence Day handicap ran a fourth, but did win an allowance in April, as this horse is two for three in a six-year-old campaign.
- 29:48SPEAKER_06: But where he really jumped up on people's radar is in the Spencer Childers.
- 29:53SPEAKER_04: Up for everything, winner's share, cheater, cattail cove is absolutely flashing through, but it's too late.
- 29:59SPEAKER_04: Up for everything has won.
- 30:01SPEAKER_04: Up for everything from either winner's share, cattail cove, cheater, or boardwalk.
- 30:06SPEAKER_06: We were able to talk with trainer Scott Willoughby about this favorite cartel gilding as he pursues to try to get this horse into the champion of champions.
- 30:16SPEAKER_06: All right, on the phone with trainer Scott Willoughby.
- 30:19SPEAKER_06: Scott, you have Up for Everything, fourth in the Independence Day handicap, won an allowance race back in April, and then comes back and wins the grade one Spencer Childers there at Los Alamitas.
- 30:30SPEAKER_06: Talk about this talented runner.
- 30:32SPEAKER_10: Yes, we've been we gave him some time off getting him ready for this uh cowbread night.
- 30:38SPEAKER_10: Usually he's a little easier grade graded one spot if that's anything possible, you know.
- 30:44SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 30:44SPEAKER_10: Grade one is grade one.
- 30:46SPEAKER_10: But uh he ran a fantastic race for us.
- 30:50SPEAKER_10: Coming off just works.
- 30:51SPEAKER_10: So this race should set him up pretty good going into the championship.
- 30:55SPEAKER_10: I skipped the gomango with him just to get him ready for the championship.
- 30:59SPEAKER_10: And uh I think he's coming into the race really well.
- 31:02SPEAKER_06: With the outcome for the 2026, I'm assuming you would love to get this horse and into the champion of champions if if possible.
- 31:10SPEAKER_06: So talk to me about kind of the road to get that.
- 31:13SPEAKER_10: Well, you know, here in Los Alamos, all that's left, I think, is uh the Bonifacius uh championship and then uh Z-Way Griffith trials.
- 31:23SPEAKER_10: So depending on how he runs in the championship, we'll run the trials if we have to, but hopefully we can just get in that race.
- 31:31SPEAKER_10: It's a tough bunch of older horses out here, which always Los Alamitas has some great older horses looking forward to running this year.
- 31:40SPEAKER_06: You know, Yancey, it's the land of great older horses, it's where they all gravitate and go towards for the most part, uh, one way or the other, whether it's they end up in December there in Los Alamitas.
- 31:53SPEAKER_06: But this certainly is one of those standout California runners.
- 31:57SPEAKER_06: Uh not necessarily came up on anybody's radar until, of course, the Spencer Childers last time out and runs a huge race to get there and to beat Catel Cove as well in that event is it's very impressive.
- 32:12SPEAKER_06: We just got talk done talking about how solid Cattel Cove has been, and then up for everything, gets up there and wins a huge race.
- 32:20SPEAKER_06: And and uh I I do think this horse is going to be very tough in, say, the Z-Way and Griffith trials in order to earn a berth going into the champion of champions.
- 32:30SPEAKER_15: Over all the years of I've been watching Osalle, Scott Wilby, and Doc allred, they more often did not have one older horse that they're competing every year for a berth in the Champion of Champions.
- 32:43SPEAKER_15: And this horse might not have been well proven as some of these other runners that we've talked about, but it's this is his home state, his home track.
- 32:51SPEAKER_15: He's never has to leave.
- 32:53SPEAKER_15: And he might be one of those horses that go in a long shot but be super fresh and be super hard to outrun if in fact he goes on and qualifies for the champion of champions.
- 33:04SPEAKER_15: I remember quite a few years ago they had a horse he looks hot, which he was on everyone's radar, but the path that he took to the champion of champions there that he won it kind of reminds me of this.
- 33:17SPEAKER_15: Uh they didn't run him a super whole lot that year.
- 33:21SPEAKER_15: He was super fresh going in, and he wasn't the favorite going into the race, even though he was a proven runner, but he came and beat the field that day, and that field had all those top runners that we were talking about back then, which was he's a dastifier, Moonus, all the top runners of the game, and he's the cop beat him that day.
- 33:40SPEAKER_15: And I kind of look for up and everything, maybe on the same path if he goes on and runs in the champion of champions, but we'll see.
- 33:49SPEAKER_06: Next up, we're gonna look at a horse that was on everybody's radar after his great big performance in the grade one Leo stakes by the name of Church Spire, who hails from the barn of Marco Gutierrez, who ran a fifth place finish as a three-year-old in the grade two Heritage Place Derby as a maiden, goes up to Albuquerque to try to get into the All-American Derby field, fails, then attempts two other opportunities before breaking its maiden late in 2025 there at Zia, then goes to Remington Park, runs a third in an allowance event, steps up one month later in the month of April and wins in an allowance race, and then the next time fires an absolute shocker to come home a winner in the grade one Leo stakes.
- 34:35SPEAKER_12: They're off for the Leo.
- 34:37SPEAKER_12: Congestion in the middle, taken back out of that, holy Pete, and also with a rotten start, hard to politic, coming on down toward the outside.
- 34:44SPEAKER_12: Shaker's No Secret.
- 34:45SPEAKER_12: Leads of Calvin 123, Church Spire running huge on the inside, final 150.
- 34:50SPEAKER_12: It's Church Spire on a slight lead.
- 34:51SPEAKER_12: Shakers No Secret doesn't have the answer.
- 34:54SPEAKER_12: Church Spire, the Leo by a link and a half.
- 34:56SPEAKER_06: Now, since the Leo stakes, and if you look at the picture of the Debbie Schaaf, you can see Church Spire is in there with not only Impressum, but also the legendary KJ Desperado.
- 35:06SPEAKER_06: And now this horse makes his way out to New Mexico and is training and working there at Albuquerque in hopes to go into a very loaded field in the All-American Gold Cup.
- 35:17SPEAKER_06: And we were able to get on the phone with Marco Gutierrez to talk to him about this talented four-year-old.
- 35:25SPEAKER_06: All right, on the phone with Marco Gutierrez, trainer of Church Spire, winner of the Leo Stakes.
- 35:30SPEAKER_06: First off, Marco, talk about looking back on that grade one event and and his performance there in the Leo Stakes.
- 35:37SPEAKER_07: You know, um, he ran real good.
- 35:39SPEAKER_07: He won easily, and we put him in the championship, and he had a little bit of a uh not not too great of a start, and ran third there, and that gave us enough confidence to to be able to come out here and compete with uh that type of caliber of horses, so that's what we're gonna try to do.
- 35:56SPEAKER_07: Uh we're about two weeks out from the gold cup just to keep him, you know, healthy, happy, and and eating from from here till till race day.
- 36:06SPEAKER_06: After the gold cup, if everything goes as hopefully as you plan and the horse comes out of the race, what does the rest of the year look like?
- 36:13SPEAKER_07: Well, um that'll be kind of up to him, you know.
- 36:16SPEAKER_07: If if the horse comes out sound and he, you know, which he is sound, he keeps uh coming back to us good and sound and healthy.
- 36:24SPEAKER_07: Um, I'd like to send him to La Salle.
- 36:26SPEAKER_07: Try our luck over there.
- 36:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Marco kind of really pointed it out.
- 36:31SPEAKER_06: This horse was running like a house on fire there at the first part of the year there in the Leo stakes, won the grade one Leo, ran third, just was right there in the winter picture going across the wire.
- 36:43SPEAKER_06: You can see Impressum, you can see KJ Desperado, and there's Church Spire along the rail.
- 36:48SPEAKER_06: And so he was right there.
- 36:50SPEAKER_06: And so theoretically, we could be talking about this horse being potentially one of the top horses in the entire country if it wasn't for ahead.
- 36:59SPEAKER_06: And now that he's out in New Mexico, I I tell you, Yancey, the road to the champion of champions this year seems to be going through Albuquerque because so many of these horses are pointing to the Gold Cup, and so many of these horses are pointing towards the Albuquerque Championship.
- 37:15SPEAKER_06: And don't forget the AQHA Challenge Championship with also would earn you a berth going into the Champion of Champions, is also there in Albuquerque.
- 37:24SPEAKER_06: So a million percent the road to the Champion of Champions is going through Albuquerque.
- 37:29SPEAKER_15: Yes, I mean, all these top horses, it looks like they're all kind of pointing towards Albuquerque, ex Albuquerque, except for the ones that are staying based in Lowstalle.
- 37:39SPEAKER_15: Uh Churchpire to me is it took a little bit for him to develop, and now he's a rising star in the league.
- 37:46SPEAKER_15: He's come out and proved this year that he's every bit as good or as good as anyone, but not saying he was a bad horse his two-year-old and three-year-old year.
- 37:56SPEAKER_15: He was a super nice horse, but he this year he's kind of blossomed, and I'm one of the top horses in the game.
- 38:03SPEAKER_15: I'm going into the Leo, he was 20 to 1.
- 38:05SPEAKER_15: And after he beat that field and the way he ran in the Debbie Shaf after that, I don't think we'll see 20 to 1 on Church Spire ever again.
- 38:13SPEAKER_15: And I'm excited for the Gold Cup because if all these horses running it, this could be one of the best races that we've seen in a long time.
- 38:22SPEAKER_06: You know, another horse to talk about in the older male division is Shaker's No Secret.
- 38:27SPEAKER_06: The horse is on a win streak, won the last two stakes races, including the win in the Rotama Park Championship Challenge Stakes, a grade three event, on August 21st, which earns him a berth into the AQHA Challenge Championship there at Albuquerque, which will, if he is the victor, will earn him a berth into the Champion of Champions, as that is the route that they took in 2024 with this Son of Five Bar cartel that has had a stellar career thus far.
- 38:56SPEAKER_06: 42 starts, nearly$900,000 earned on the racetrack that won the 2024 AQHA Challenge Championship, the grade one event, as mentioned, ran a third in the 2024 Champion of Champions, went out to Sunland Park and won the championship at Sunland, which is a grade one event, a second in the Leo Stakes last year, a second in the Debis Schaaf, a second in the vessels maturity, attempted to get into the Champion of Champions in 25, trying to go through the Z-Wayne Griffith Director Stakes, and then starts off this year in another edition of the championship at Sunland, runs a second in the Remington Park Challenge Championship, a third in the Leo, a sixth in the Debishaff, goes down to Ratama, wins the grade three King William stakes, and of course, as mentioned, fires a bullet in the Ratama Park Challenge Championship Challenge Stakes.
- 39:49SPEAKER_05: On the far outside, it's Shaker's No Secret.
- 39:51SPEAKER_05: They dash up to finish.
- 39:53SPEAKER_05: Shaker's no secrets, picking them up and laying them down on the outside.
- 39:56SPEAKER_05: I'm a pretty messed on the inside.
- 39:58SPEAKER_05: Here's the wire.
- 39:59SPEAKER_05: Shaker's no secret, you winner.
- 40:01SPEAKER_06: Now, without a doubt, it's Mark Younger's intention to have two horses in the field going into the Champion of Champions as he already has lethal Cowboy 123 making the field with his berth already intact, but now his attempt to get Shaker's No Secret back into the big race is the discussion as we got this trainer on the phone.
- 40:23SPEAKER_06: On the phone with trainer Mark Youngers.
- 40:25SPEAKER_06: Mark, great run there by Shaker's No Secret there in at Ratama Park to get into the finals there in Albuquerque.
- 40:33SPEAKER_06: Talk about this horse as he's absolutely progressing into even a better racehorse than he currently was.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: Well, he's done great.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: He ran a heck of the race.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Um Ratama's, you know, he said well over there.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: He's had you know in his last two starts, and you know, the goal has always been to we're chasing a dream like everyone else to get in the champion champion.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: So his path hopefully is like we did two years ago, and we go with Albuquerque and uh luck's with us, we can uh win the championship and get you know birth back to the back to Los Alfred the champion champions.
- 41:05SPEAKER_06: Mark, is there enough time theoretically after the AQHA challenge championship in Albuquerque, if theoretically he doesn't earn a berth through not being victorious there in Albuquerque, and of course everything's pointing towards he's gonna be one of the top contenders in that spot.
- 41:23SPEAKER_06: But is there enough time from for a horse, an older horse, who hasn't had such a rigorous campaign in 2026 to go ahead and try to capture a berth into the champion of champions, say even through the Z Wayne Griffith trials?
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: That would be our backup plan.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: We're hoping we don't go that route.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: I'd like to get it out of the way so we kind of do it on our, you know, more on our terms, meaning that you know we can freshen him up.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: But the horse runs well, you know, coming back off a trial or you know, whatnot, he's you know, he's matured you know, from his two year old years.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: And uh but I mean, yeah, that's our goal.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, if we if we're not fortunate enough to get there, you know, it's a tough race.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, it's a tough race.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of good horses in there all over the country coming into Albuquerque.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: So but ultimately, yeah, that would be our that would probably our goal.
- 42:13SPEAKER_06: You know, Yancey, he's going to be one of the stoutest, maybe the morning line favorite going into the AQHA challenge championship there in Albuquerque.
- 42:21SPEAKER_06: And of course, that earns a berth into the Champion of Champions for the winner.
- 42:25SPEAKER_06: And this horse has actually taken that path to get to the champion of champions in the past.
- 42:30SPEAKER_06: So I really look for maybe Mark Youngers is going to have two horses in the actual field there since Lethal Cowboy is actually in the field already.
- 42:40SPEAKER_06: Shaker's no secret, just knocking on the door, and either we'll get in through a really strong win in the AQHA Challenge Championship, or you that he's definitely a candidate for trying the Z-Wayne Griffith trial route.
- 42:56SPEAKER_15: Yes, and with all these horses going into the Gold Cup, if they all go in there, this looks like a perfect spot for him to punch his ticket to that champion of champions.
- 43:07SPEAKER_15: I know that's every trainer's goal with these older horses, so it looks like a perfect plan.
- 43:12SPEAKER_15: Shaker's no secret.
- 43:13SPEAKER_15: I mean, he's the blue-collar horse of our sport.
- 43:16SPEAKER_15: It doesn't matter where he's sending, it doesn't matter what track he runs on.
- 43:20SPEAKER_15: He's just a super hard-trying horse that every time he tries his best, might not always win, but a lot of times he does.
- 43:28SPEAKER_15: And as Mark Younger's pointed out, the last two starts with Otama, he's really come into his own and he looks like Shaker's No Secret.
- 43:36SPEAKER_15: So I look for him to be super tough in the challenge championship.
- 43:41SPEAKER_06: And that'll wrap it up for the older male division.
- 43:43SPEAKER_06: And after these words from our sponsor, we'll get into the older females, the top ones in the country, going forth to what they're going to do with the rest of 2026.
- 43:54SPEAKER_02: And we'll be right back after these words.
- 43:57SPEAKER_02: How about the sire standing at Dunn Ranch?
- 43:59SPEAKER_02: Chile.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Siring the fastest overall qualifier to the$3 million Grade 1 All-American Futurity in Albuquerque.
- 44:05SPEAKER_19: And there goes Chili Gato! Ding Chili Gato in an upset!
- 44:09SPEAKER_02: Proven to be one of the top sires in the country, as he's the second leading third crop sires in the country.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: Also, check out the full stallion roster standing at Dunn Ranch in Winniewood, Oklahoma.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: The grade one winning and grade one producing sire A Revenant, the brother to dual champion of champions winners a political pence, a political victory.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: One of the top first crop sires for 2026 in hot pursuit.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: The graded stakes winning son of one famous eagle, Juice is loose, and the sire of multiple grade one winners, PYC Fun and Fancy, all standing at Dun Ranch.
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: Visit him on the web at Dunranch.com.
- 44:43SPEAKER_17: Have you made your plans to attend the AQHA Challenge Championships at the Downs in Albuquerque on October 17th?
- 44:49SPEAKER_17: Well, let this serve as your reminder.
- 44:51SPEAKER_17: While you're at it, mark Lone Star Park as a destination for you in 2027 as the championship finals moves back to Texas for another edition.
- 44:59SPEAKER_17: And be sure to make your future stars challenge eligible.
- 45:02SPEAKER_17: Log on to AQHA.com forward slash racing to find out more information about the program.
- 45:08SPEAKER_23: Alright, back to the show.
- 45:10SPEAKER_06: Alright, we're back here continuing on, but shifting gears to go into the older female division.
- 45:16SPEAKER_06: And to start off, we'll look at one of the top fillies in that division.
- 45:19SPEAKER_06: Shaking going on out there at the Eddie Willis barn, who going back to last November in just to know love handicap stakes, rattled off a win, comes back, wins the SoCal Derby as a three-year-old, jumps into her four-year-old season, and has been perfect thus far, winning the grade two Miss Princess Handicap, as well as a huge win in the grade two Abigail Koananakoa stakes.
- 45:44SPEAKER_04: Racing! Shake and going on with bold and beautiful Joe Lee.
- 45:49SPEAKER_04: And just off the pace is AJ Flawless.
- 45:52SPEAKER_04: Shake and Going on, asserts herself at the 16th pole, leading from Bold and Beautiful and AJ Flawless.
- 45:58SPEAKER_04: Shake and going on, Bold and Beautiful, diving to get close, but Shake and Going on held out Bold and Beautiful narrowly with eight.
- 46:05SPEAKER_06: She's got twelve wins from nineteen starts with nearly five hundred thousand dollars earned on the racetrack.
- 46:12SPEAKER_06: And we got Eddie Willis on the phone to talk about this talented Philly and what does it look like going forward in 2026 for her?
- 46:22SPEAKER_06: All right, reaching out to trainer Eddie Willis out in California, trainer of the talented older Philly shaking going on.
- 46:29SPEAKER_06: Eddie, she's a winner in the Miss Princess handicapped, the grade two event, as well as the Abigail Quantanicoa stakes uh this year she's been stellar.
- 46:38SPEAKER_06: Talk about this talented Philly as well as what you're looking for for the rest of the 2026 campaign.
- 46:45SPEAKER_11: Well, I'm just gonna keep her here and I have another race in a couple of weeks, the next Philly race here.
- 46:53SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna try to run her next hundred pounds and then see where we go from there, you know.
- 46:58SPEAKER_11: If she wins this next day, she'll be eligible.
- 47:01SPEAKER_11: So that's kind of the plan.
- 47:03SPEAKER_11: If she does, she does.
- 47:05SPEAKER_11: And if she doesn't, she doesn't.
- 47:06SPEAKER_11: I don't, you know.
- 47:08SPEAKER_11: I don't really want to run her a quarter of a mile with him over yielding, but they'll have to chase her down if they're gonna beat her.
- 47:16SPEAKER_06: The race that Eddie's talking about is the Millie Vessels Memorial Handicap, a grade one event, and it's a win and you're in.
- 47:22SPEAKER_06: $100,000 on the line, four 400 yards for a three-year-old, and up Phillies and Mares.
- 47:29SPEAKER_06: And this force is gonna look ultra tough in that spot.
- 47:32SPEAKER_06: I don't know of a lot of other big name horses in this division, Yancey, that will be pointing towards that race.
- 47:39SPEAKER_06: So more than likely, Shaking going on is going to be this probably the stoutest in the field there.
- 47:46SPEAKER_15: If Leto Cowboy 1, 2, 3 is the California surfer boy, the surfer boy of the sport, then shaking going on's gotta be the California supermodel.
- 47:56SPEAKER_15: She's another horse that loves Los Alaminos, and Los Alminos is definitely her home.
- 48:02SPEAKER_15: She's eight for nine over the track.
- 48:05SPEAKER_15: The only time she didn't win was she was third in the Charger bar last year.
- 48:09SPEAKER_15: So I look for her to be the odds-on favorite in the Mary Vessels, just like you were saying.
- 48:13SPEAKER_15: And it's the one secure spot for Phillies and Mayors in our sport.
- 48:18SPEAKER_15: You win that race and you're in the champion of champions, and get a chance to run again and beat the boys.
- 48:23SPEAKER_15: So I look for shaking going on to that one Philly or mayor that is in the champion of champions that is trying to beat the boys this year.
- 48:32SPEAKER_06: Next, we talk about one of the other top Phillies and mayors in the country, and that's the grade one winning catching southern Rays, who made huge headlines at Remington Park in May in the grade one Juno's Request stakes, where she ran away with it and stamped herself as one of the tops in the division.
- 48:48SPEAKER_12: They're off in the Juno's request.
- 48:50SPEAKER_12: Jolie Led, farther out, catching southern Rays.
- 48:53SPEAKER_12: Here's the final yards in the Juno's request.
- 48:55SPEAKER_12: Carmelite's trying to hold off catching southern rays, photo finish.
- 48:59SPEAKER_06: Now, here recently on August 14th, she was at Prairie Meadows winning the grade three Prairie Meadows Distaff Challenge stakes, which makes her eligible for the Cox Ranch Challenge at the end of the year there in October at Albuquerque.
- 49:14SPEAKER_06: And we were able to get on the phone with Stacy Sherrette Hill to talk with her about this talented apolitical Jess Philly.
- 49:22SPEAKER_06: All right, on the phone with trainer Stacy Sherad Hill.
- 49:25SPEAKER_06: Stacy, you have a brilliant Philly and mayor in your barn there, catching Southern Rays, winner of the Juno's Request, a grade one event.
- 49:33SPEAKER_06: I qualified to get into the the challenge there in Albuquerque with a win in the Prairie Meadows Challenge Distaff.
- 49:40SPEAKER_06: Talk about this talented Philly this this year.
- 49:43SPEAKER_06: She's she's just been brilliant.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, we went through a slump last year with her.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: Um I think we figured our problem out.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: Um, not a big problem, but we think we figured it out.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: And I mean, she's stepped to the plate and done everything we've asked her to do this year, but one time.
- 50:01SPEAKER_06: I'm assuming the target is Albuquerque there for the challenge finals there in October.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: What else is after?
- 50:09SPEAKER_06: If if all things go well, Stacy, and the Philly comes out of the race really well and in good company, is it something else on the agenda for 2026 for her?
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: Well, we've talked about sending her to California.
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: You know, that's probably in the future for her.
- 50:25SPEAKER_00: I think she's good enough to go to California.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: Me and Leanne have talked about this a lot, and sh she deserves to go out there and run against the Phillies.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: Not that I don't think she can hold her own against the boys because she has, but she just deserves to go out there.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: So that's probably something in the future for her.
- 50:45SPEAKER_06: You know, Yancey, in our one of our last previews about how we thought she was going to be ultra tough there at the Prairie Meadows Challenge in order to earn a berth into the Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge Championship there at Albuquerque.
- 50:59SPEAKER_06: And this horse doesn't disappoint.
- 51:00SPEAKER_06: She's run two huge races this year, the Juno's Request, a grade one there at Remington.
- 51:05SPEAKER_06: It was raining cats and dogs, if I recall.
- 51:08SPEAKER_06: And then, of course, the Prairie Meadows Challenge Championship just convened and she earns that berth.
- 51:14SPEAKER_06: Stacy's always got such solid females in her barn, and uh I look for this horse to be one of the top disdaffers in the country.
- 51:23SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I think she will be the favorite going into the Cox Rench Challenge race for sure.
- 51:29SPEAKER_15: But she's like a coin flip every other time she wins.
- 51:33SPEAKER_15: You usually look for consistency in horse racing and want horses to be consistent, but we want Catch Southern race to be a little less consistent.
- 51:42SPEAKER_15: Maybe rattle off a few wins in a row, which she's definitely talented and has the ability to do so.
- 51:48SPEAKER_15: It's just she has a pattern every other race she wins.
- 51:52SPEAKER_15: So we'll it'll be interesting to see if she can break that spell and succeed there in Albuquerque.
- 51:59SPEAKER_06: Now the last filly we're gonna talk about is out of the barn of Juan Aleman, bold and beautiful, in a very unique situation because as she has stayed in her division of the Phillies and Mayors by running into Los Alamitas Oaks and finishing fifth there, finishing a fourth in the Heritage Place Oaks, and then going on to the All-American Oaks as a three-year-old running an eighth place finish.
- 52:20SPEAKER_06: For the most part, in her career, she's run against her own sex, but as Juan Aleman will explain, the decision was made to try her in the 440-yard grade three Los Alamitas Championship Challenge stakes.
- 52:33SPEAKER_04: Racing.
- 52:34SPEAKER_04: Bold and Beautiful steps away cleanly with Whiskey West going very fast on her inside.
- 52:40SPEAKER_04: Scoop's Dynasty represents big danger and invasive in the middle.
- 52:44SPEAKER_04: Scoop's Dynasty laying down the Lord of Bolden Beautiful.
- 52:47SPEAKER_04: Bold and Beautiful kicks and wins.
- 52:49SPEAKER_06: With that win, she becomes eligible to run in the Challenge Championships in Albuquerque with a chance of potential, if she wins there, of getting into the Champion of Champions.
- 53:00SPEAKER_06: But the other avenue to be able to get into the Champion of Champions is staying on our home turf and running well in the Millie Vessels coming up, but she'll have to face shaking going on.
- 53:11SPEAKER_06: But it sounds like those two are on a collision course to run into each other, and we were able to talk with trainer Juan Aleman about this talented freight train B Philly.
- 53:22SPEAKER_06: All right, on the phone with trainer Juan Aleman, bold and beautiful, another great runner from your barn.
- 53:28SPEAKER_06: Six in the charger bar thus far this year, second in the Abigail Kwananakoa Stakes, a grade two event, but then jumps up in the LoSale challenge against older males won and gets in there and defeats a really good field.
- 53:41SPEAKER_06: And is now, of course, becomes eligible for the AQHA Challenge Championship there in Albuquerque.
- 53:48SPEAKER_06: What's the goal with this runner and what can we look for for the rest of 2026?
- 53:53SPEAKER_09: Well, uh, she's been she's been running very good.
- 53:55SPEAKER_09: Uh, you know, running her against the boys, uh, I won't take credit for that.
- 53:59SPEAKER_09: That was the owner, Mr.
- 54:00SPEAKER_09: Gentry, wanted to see the mayor run 440, and uh that race, that challenge race came up, and I said, okay, let's go.
- 54:07SPEAKER_09: Uh this dude, and it just uh turned out great.
- 54:10SPEAKER_09: Uh she won, she beat the boys and and did it in good fashion.
- 54:14SPEAKER_09: Um, but uh the race really after is the Millie Vessels here coming up in the next uh three weeks, and there's what we're pointing her at and hopefully try to get a birth in the champion to champion there.
- 54:27SPEAKER_09: And if not, we'll we'll go to the uh the Bank of America challenge in Alberta.
- 54:32SPEAKER_06: You know, Yancey, the Millie Vessels coming up in September really got interesting after Bold and Beautiful powered through and beat the boys there at the Los Alamitas Championship Challenge regional race there, uh, with Juan Alemans taking no credit at all with uh the Gentry Farms guys wanting to run this horse at 440.
- 54:53SPEAKER_06: So he runs her up against the boys and she lo and behold wins.
- 54:57SPEAKER_06: And as Juan said, he really has no intention of going to Albuquerque to run in the championship challenge there in October, but more than likely he's going to run against the same type there as she is a Philly and mayor, she's going to go face Phillies and Mayors more than likely in the Millie Vessels.
- 55:13SPEAKER_06: And as mentioned, watching her go up against Shaking Going On, that's going to be a heck of a race.
- 55:18SPEAKER_15: Yes, and she's ran against Shaking Going On a couple times in the past and finished second from the previous starts that I saw.
- 55:26SPEAKER_15: And I actually couldn't agree with the owners more.
- 55:30SPEAKER_15: All the replays that I've watched with this horse, she is a super, super tough finisher.
- 55:37SPEAKER_15: She always finishes strong on the end.
- 55:39SPEAKER_15: Doesn't always break the best, but she's always coming on the end, so that extra distance I think really helps her.
- 55:47SPEAKER_06: And that'll close out our featured segment where we're looking at some of the top older horse divisions out there in the country, and we'll be right back after these words to jump into the recap section.
- 55:58SPEAKER_22: Did you know four of ten All-American Futurity qualifiers this year are Riadoso Select Yearling graduates?
- 56:04SPEAKER_22: And four of the ten of the All-American juvenile are Riadoso New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale graduates.
- 56:10SPEAKER_22: So here's a simple equation everyone can understand.
- 56:13SPEAKER_22: Yearlings times the Riadoso sale equals success.
- 56:17SPEAKER_22: It seems simple when you think about it.
- 56:19SPEAKER_22: See you at the New Mexico Yearlink sale on August 15th, and at the Select Yearlings sale on September 4th and 5th.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: Introducing the incomparable stallion roster at Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

- 57:34SPEAKER_02: And new for the upcoming 2027 breeding season?
- 57:38SPEAKER_02: The leading sire in the nation of money earners, Flying Cowboy 123, the sire of 10 qualifiers into the 2026 All-American Futurity, Derby, and Oaks, all standing at Lazy E in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
- 57:52SPEAKER_02: All right, back to the show.

- 1:01:18SPEAKER_05: She's easy to tempt and karma ching.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_05: Those two are gonna take it to the wire.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_05: Who's it gonna be?
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_05: She's easy to tempt, what's it?
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_06: This horse here was a TQHA yearling cell RA at$23,000.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_06: She's easy to tempt.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_06: The three-year-old Philly by tempting dash out of the EC Jet One Mare Cash Cheese EC was bred by Francisco Garza in his own bike at KK Horse Racing and is trained by Jose Garcia, also ridden to victory by Victor Urietta Jr., both trainer and jockey, doubling up in the Cyrus Cup Futurity as well as the Derby for the win.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_06: Now let's head out to California for the Sgt.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_06: Pepper feature handicap.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_06: $30,000 on the line, three-year-olds going 350 yards, and here's the call from Michael Rona.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_06: Racing!
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_04: Omega Humdinger dawdled out of the gate.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_04: It's SMI Valentine and Turnpike Jammer the first two to go.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_04: Mega Humdinger's giving chase boldly down the outside, then slated the shine.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_04: Mega Humdinger going to the front.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_04: Mega Humdinger, a big effort to win.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_06: What a performance by Mare Humdinger.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_06: Getting through horses to get up to win.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_06: The three-year-old gilding by MP Shinning out of the favorite cartel, Mare Mindy's favorite, is bred and owned by Michael Castleman, trained by Michael Castleman, and was ridden today by Jockey Martin or Ariaga in a time of 17.676 seconds for the 350 yards.

- 1:03:00SPEAKER_04: Racing! Lethal Cowboy 123 begins splendidly so as astronomical 1-2-3.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_04: Out wide mask mandate running a bit of a race, but it's astronomical 1-2-3 with his head in front of Lethal Cowboy.

- 1:03:51SPEAKER_06: Steve Burns.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_06: And that'll do it for the recap section this week, and we'll be right back after these words getting into the preview section.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_24: No matter what your needs, there's a Purina feed created to provide optimum nutrition for your horse.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_24: What your horse eats determines how good he will become.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_16: PURI.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_16: And we make better horses.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_02: If you're heading to Oklahoma City for the Heritage Place Yearling Sale in September, go over and take a look at the world-class operation of Royal Vista Ranch at the yearlings sales, not only offering top-shelf level yearlings, but also class and elegance that most hutters can only hope to achieve.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_02: Royal Vista has it.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: Check them out.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_02: Also standing at Royal Vista Ranch is the son of Apolitical Jess, Apolitical J Streak, the already legendary and industry leading sire, Apolitical Jess, the AQHA Champion sire, FDD Going Grand, the well-bred Heart of the Cartel, the Grade 1 winning Just Dulcie, and new for 2027, the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity winning Eye on the Card, all standing at Royal Vista Ranch in Wayne, Oklahoma.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_02: Alright, back to the show.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_06: Alright, we're back, ready to jump into the preview section, and we're going to go out to Delta Downs at$561,000 LQHBA restricted grade one futurity for the two-year-olds, accredited Louisiana Breads, and uh plenty of accomplished runners in this field.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_06: And I'll go ahead and get started on it.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_06: KJ Medusa.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_06: The Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity winner, last time out, runs a second in the trial, but runs fast enough to get into the field here for the sale futurity, another restricted grade one event.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_06: It's probably the most accomplished in the field.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_06: Seven starts, two wins, four seconds, only has missed being first or second one time in its short career of seven races.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_06: $350,000 earned.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_06: Trained by Miguel Pizana.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_06: I would think that even though this horse just kind of barely got into the field, I think it certainly can make up for it by trying to run maybe back to the same race that it ran in July.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_06: When it won the Lee Burberg Memorial Faturity.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_15: Yes, Greg.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_15: I this would be my top pick in the race if I was handicapping it.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_15: And I think note to say is picks up Victor Yarrietta in the irons.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_15: So even though Jorge Garcia isn't staying on this horse, uh he picks up Victor Manuel Arrieta to ride.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_15: And this is a super hot rider right now.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_15: He just won both uh fraterty and derby last weekend at Ritama.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_15: But let's move to the fastest qualifier, Man for Cause.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_15: This is another KJ Mucho Macho man runner.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_15: Jorge Garcia, like I said, qualified this one and Alex to stay on it.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_15: Uh this is a super accomplished runner as well.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_15: Uh two starts back ran third, Lee Berwick fraternity.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_15: So he's faced KJ Medusa before.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_15: And then earlier in the year, ran second in the Laddie fraternity.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_15: She's qualified for multiple graded fraternities already and comes and sets the fastest time for this one.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_06: And there's another one to look at RDD Reasons for B the Philly in the race.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_06: A second place finisher in the Lee Warwick Memorial Fraturity last timeout before winning its trial race to get into the LQHBA sale fraternity finals.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_06: A second place finisher back in the restricted grade two Lassie Faturity.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_06: So this horse has really just been knocking at the door.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_06: She's only had five starts and hasn't finished worse than second in all five of those starts.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_06: Goes into this hot rider on him, Leo Rodriguez is certainly an up-and-coming rider there in Louisiana.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_06: So this horse is going to definitely be tough.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_15: Yes, and draws the nine-hole.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_15: And anytime I see an experienced runner on the outside, no matter where it's at, I always look for them to be tough.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_06: All right, the next race we're going north, Horseshoe Indianapolis has the QHR AI stallion service auction fraturity, a grade three event for two-year-olds going 350 yards, almost$250,000 on the line, Yancy.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_06: And this race has a bona fide standout in the field.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_15: Yeah, Wild over Corona is the four to five favorite, the seven horse.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_15: Um he's four for four on the year.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_15: He's never been beaten.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_15: He already won the Jagger Rocket fraternity earlier in July and comes into this, sets the fastest time.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_15: He's got way the fastest speed figure of any of the horses in the race, too.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_15: And I just think if he runs his race, um we're looking for a horse to put with him to run second.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_06: And maybe that horse is scarcity.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_06: Scarcity ran and won its trial in the Jaguar Rocket Futurity trial, but went into the Jaguar Rocket Stakes and ran a seventh, but runs a second in its trial to get into or to the Stallion Service auction and potentially, even though it's six to one as a compared to the four to five morning line favorite that you had pointed out, Yancey, if you have to go and couple a horse with the bona fide four-to-five favorite, or maybe even one to nine by the time they go to the gate, scarcity might be something to fill out your exacta.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_15: Well, Greg, the horse that I put for for second is right next to him.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_15: 15-1 Asta La Vista.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_15: This horse has got a lot of room to improve and has to improve to be competitive here, but he's only ran three starts on the year, and and I watched his first two starts and he didn't break at all in both of those.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_15: Got bumped, smashed, but he finished eighth his first out, but then he finished fourth his second out, which was in a fraternity trial, and then this last time out, he ran he won his trial to get into this race, and I I just like the consistency that he's getting better and better.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_15: And also his desire is Cholitos, and Cholitos is producing super a lot of super nice runners right now.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_15: He has the fastest qualifier going into the All-American Futurity.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_15: So if this horse can continue to improve like he has been, I think this horse has a chance to run second or third in this race.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_06: Alright, we'll stay in the Midwest, Yancey, and go up to Prairie Meadows there in Iowa.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_06: The covered bridges stakes the grade three event for the hook horses going 870.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_06: We've already talked about you and I have an affinity for these hook horses.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_06: Forty-five thousand dollars for three-year-olds and upward on the line here.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_06: And and weirdly, the the two standouts in the field, of course, draw the one and the two-hole.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_15: That's how it should be, you know.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_15: The inside post position is such a key factor in 870 races, so I like to see the two best horses down there.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_15: The two horse, though, is RNC Card Shark Jones.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_15: This horse has won his last five races in a row, and he was actually the winner of the covered bridges stakes last year.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_15: And over the years, I remember Kruback, even when my dad was riding, my dad rode a couple 870 horses for Don Johnson.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_15: He's always had really good 870 horses throughout the years, and the horse chips in here wins an 870 allowance, so I think he sets up perfect to be the horse to beat for this race.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_06: It's unique.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_06: There's plenty of them in this field that are fairly unique.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_06: They're at Prairie Meadows.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_06: The two horses, a Montana bread, the three horses, a Louisiana bread.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_06: We got three Oklahoma, four Oklahoma breads, and then of course a North Dakota bread.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_06: So uh I don't see that very often.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_15: Yeah, that's rare.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_06: But also the horse along the rail out of the Ed Ross Hardy barn.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_06: Cashback heroes, another horse to look.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_06: Of course, draws a great post position in the one-hole.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_15: Yeah, this is another really good 870 runner.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_15: He also ran first in an 870 allowance last time out at Prey Meadows.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_15: But the time before that, he ran in the Remington Park Distance Championship, which he went up against some of the top 870 runners in the game that we've already talked about earlier.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_15: And he finished fifth there, so not too bad.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_15: Before that, he ran third in the Paul's Valley, so he's definitely proven that he can run with the best of them in the 870 division.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_15: So he's another one that will be tough to beat in this race.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_06: Yes, meaning the Paul's Valley in grade two, which was three starts back, ran third behind handing out Candy in Winchester, which we've already talked of two of the top 870 horses in the entire country, but also beat several really nice horses in the 870 division of O'Donovan Rosa, as well as Rocky Later, were all in that field there.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_06: And uh Cashback Hero actually ran outran both of those horses and was just right behind both handing out Candy and Winchester.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_06: So this should be a great race here at the Covered Bridges Stakes, the Great Three event there at Prairie Meadows.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_06: And as always, thanks for joining us here on the podcast to kind of preview these races, Yancey, and we'll be right back after these words from our sponsor.
