- 0:01Hey. Everybody, welcome to the Good
- 0:03Morning from the Chicken Coop podcast.
- 0:05My name is Kim Johnson and I am a mastermindset, coach, creative
- 0:08strategist, and also happened to be a farmer.
- 0:11This is my Chicken coop and I come out here.
- 0:13Every day to record a podcast to.
- 0:15Teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy.
- 0:20Into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29OK. What do you do when you're
- 0:30stuck? Let's say you're trying to come
- 0:33up with something and whatever that might be, something you're
- 0:36working on for yourself, something you're working on for
- 0:39your job, whatever it is. Let's say you're stuck.
- 0:42What do you do? I mean, it comes up often in my
- 0:46sessions where people will say I just feel stuck.
- 0:48I don't know what to do. Well, what do you think the main
- 0:52reason that you get stuck is? And believe me, this has
- 0:55happened to me too. Because we are myopic.
- 0:57We only see our world through our own eyes.
- 0:59So what happens when you feel stuck and what do you think is
- 1:05the driver? It's usually 99% of the time
- 1:09that you're looking at it through the same motion that got
- 1:13you stuck. So in other words, the main
- 1:15driver of your bus. So if we're going back to our
- 1:19bus metaphor of who's driving your bus, what emotion is in
- 1:22your head driving that bus? That is the one that predicated
- 1:25you getting stuck. So often for me, if I'm stuck,
- 1:29my certainty girl is driving and she is looking for something
- 1:32that is an absolute win. And when you're creating, you
- 1:36cannot always have an absolute win.
- 1:38In fact, most of the time, you never know if you're going to
- 1:40have an absolute win. It's very, very important to
- 1:44remember that that those emotions that are our primary
- 1:47ones will jump in and they will give their opinion and they will
- 1:51stay for a long time as the driver.
- 1:53So you really have to work on making sure that you understand
- 1:56before you're trying to just go down that stuck hole.
- 1:59I'm stuck, I'm stuck, I'm stuck, I'm stuck.
- 2:01You are dealing with the emotion that got you there.
- 2:04You're not dealing with the emotion you need to get you out
- 2:07of it. So you have to say, ah, wait,
- 2:09I'm stuck. What is the emotion that's
- 2:12driving? And then you go, I go certainty.
- 2:14So I'm going to use myself as an example.
- 2:16Certainty. OK, great.
- 2:17So as I'm planning this expansive herb garden, I'm,
- 2:22there are lots of things in there that I haven't grown.
- 2:24I've picked way too many seeds that I want to grow, which is
- 2:27great. And I've got to figure out where
- 2:29to put them. So now I'm like, OK, well, I'm
- 2:32not sure how I want to do this. I'm not sure.
- 2:34And I found myself saying I'm not sure.
- 2:36I'm not sure. I'm not sure, which meant I was
- 2:38stuck. I was in that contemplative
- 2:41feeling of being stuck. So I had to say, OK, stop,
- 2:45pause. What is happening?
- 2:46Certainty is driving. She is not helpful right now.
- 2:49So I said you are not helpful right now.
- 2:51I need to really get creative. I need creativity driving.
- 2:55I need creativity driving. And as soon as I did that, I was
- 2:59like, well, I could do this. And as soon as I hear myself go,
- 3:01well, that means I'm kicking into gear of creativity
- 3:05possibility. So well, I could do this or I
- 3:07could do this or I could do this.
- 3:09And before you know, I, I've got like 5 different choices there.
- 3:12But it is always, always, always predicated on that driver.
- 3:17And if you forget that, you've got to realize as soon as you
- 3:20hear yourself saying the words, I'm stuck.
- 3:23You now know you've got to shift.
- 3:25You've got to get to a different driver.
- 3:27I'm certainly not saying that that's going to be a definitive
- 3:30answer. Those ones that are coming out,
- 3:32well, it could be this or it could be this or it could be
- 3:34this, but it gets the inertia going.
- 3:37It gets you moving again, it it moves those feet and that energy
- 3:42from being stuck and then puts you on a path where you can
- 3:45potentially really make progress.
- 3:49But you have to recognize the emotion first.
- 3:52If you don't recognize the emotion first, that's where it
- 3:55all goes wrong and we start to get frustrated and before you
- 3:58know it, that frustration is building and now there's a
- 4:02block. It's a full on roadblock.
- 4:04Now another piece of this that's very important besides just
- 4:07switching the emotion is to go to the place of making sure that
- 4:11you are changing your location, change your body position, get
- 4:17up and go for a walk. Believe it or not, when old
- 4:20timers used to say, hey, go for a walk, clear your head, they it
- 4:23was actually brilliant because the more you move your body, the
- 4:26more energy shifts and the more you're able to change.
- 4:29So you go for a walk, you change your seat.
- 4:32I will move my seat all around in my studio so that I can
- 4:35actually feel like, OK, I'm moving.
- 4:38I don't want to stay stagnant. So you see, your body means it
- 4:41moves your head. So you just have to keep
- 4:43thinking like that in layers, keep moving and give yourself
- 4:47the time and write down, say I'm going to write down all the
- 4:50horrible ideas or all the feelings of being stuck so
- 4:53they're not in my head or my body anymore.
- 4:55And then I have space for the new stuff.
- 4:58It's another strategy. So being stuck, you can really
- 5:01layer it. You can really pull yourself
- 5:03out, but you've got to try a bunch of different things to
- 5:05make it work. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:07you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:10Bye.
