- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everybody? Welcome into another edition of
- 0:13Speaker 1: the Checko Daily. It's Andrew Dichecko here, Eagles be reporter
- 0:16Speaker 1: from inside the birds dot Com.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Forewarning apologies if you hear.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Any background noise. I am driving recording this and I
- 0:25Speaker 1: wanted to talk a little bit about the Eagles offensive
- 0:29Speaker 1: coordinator spot on.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I guess it's Tuesday.
- 0:34Speaker 1: The Eagles have announced that they've moved on from Kevin
- 0:38Speaker 1: Batulo as the offensive coordinator. Nick Sirianni put out a
- 0:42Speaker 1: statement that the Eagles put out on their social media
- 0:47Speaker 1: and so this was something we all expected, not a surprise.
- 0:51Speaker 3: But let's take a look at the offense this season.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We've talked a lot about it and then maybe where
- 0:56Speaker 1: the Eagles go from here, because you look at this
- 0:59Speaker 1: offense to see it did not meet expectations. It looked
- 1:03Speaker 1: too often, too many weeks, like the offense had a
- 1:06Speaker 1: labor its way down the field. Even look at Patullo
- 1:09Speaker 1: with the sequence saying and just the lack of a
- 1:12Speaker 1: rhythm from the offense.
- 1:14Speaker 2: There wasn't much creativity there.
- 1:16Speaker 1: And I do maintain that his players first, right When
- 1:20Speaker 1: when players win, When when the team wins, players get
- 1:23Speaker 1: the credit.
- 1:24Speaker 3: They also when they lose players first.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But I've always believed that and I think when you
- 1:30Speaker 1: look at.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Kevin Bittullo, it's the low hanging fruit. I understand that
- 1:34Speaker 3: his name is.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Sort of been a lightning rod around the Delawer Valley
- 1:40Speaker 1: and beyond uh this season, he was appointed him as
- 1:46Speaker 1: OC in the first time play call, where there was
- 1:48Speaker 1: a lot of skepticism as to whether or not he'd
- 1:50Speaker 1: be able to step in, and I look, it was
- 1:55Speaker 1: it was a struggle of this season, but I maintained
- 1:57Speaker 1: that it was a collective right, there's Stemmers, one person,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and that's a sentiment that I got throughout the season
- 2:05Speaker 1: hearing from different players. There was a lot of ownership,
- 2:08Speaker 1: a lot of accountability that were at execution was something
- 2:10Speaker 1: that was mentioned had Nausey. There's plays to be made
- 2:14Speaker 1: on the field that weren't made at different times this season. Heck,
- 2:17Speaker 1: there were a couple of plays in that forty nine
- 2:19Speaker 1: Ers game that weren't made that alters the course of
- 2:22Speaker 1: that game and we're probably having a different conversation, we're
- 2:25Speaker 1: not having this one at least, And so yes, something
- 2:29Speaker 1: had to happen, There had to be a change there
- 2:30Speaker 1: they couldn't run it back.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And now the question becomes where the Eagles go from here?
- 2:35Speaker 1: But I think a larger question that we should all
- 2:38Speaker 1: be asking and wondering is will they change their philosophical
- 2:45Speaker 1: approach because I got to tell you listening to Saquon
- 2:47Speaker 1: bark where Devonte Smith after the game, they straight up said,
- 2:52Speaker 1: you know, sa Kwon Barkley said he didn't believe that
- 2:54Speaker 1: they were conservative against the forty nine ers and.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Said, yeah, new coordinator, new.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Coaches, but he said it was pretty much the same
- 3:01Speaker 1: script as last season. De Monte Smith the same thing.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And so you look at this offense, what was the
- 3:07Speaker 1: big difference? Well, they didn't have a running game to
- 3:10Speaker 1: hang their hat on. And we know that philosophically, that's
- 3:13Speaker 1: what the Eagles want to do. They want to protect
- 3:15Speaker 1: the football at all costs, run the football, play a
- 3:17Speaker 1: bulletball style of offense, and have the quarterback be sort
- 3:21Speaker 1: of a game manager of source. And I understand that
- 3:23Speaker 1: when you hear game manager that has negative connotation at times,
- 3:26Speaker 1: but it doesn't have to you know, make calculate decisions,
- 3:30Speaker 1: throw the deep ball, catch a defense when they're napping
- 3:36Speaker 1: or when the opportunity presents itself and really play that style.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So will the new offensive coordinator have to abide by
- 3:42Speaker 1: those same guidelines or will they have full autonomy to
- 3:47Speaker 1: run their offense. And if they run their offense, what
- 3:51Speaker 1: will it look like? And how will they be able
- 3:54Speaker 1: to mesh with the quarterback? And how will that gibe
- 4:00Speaker 1: with Nick Sirianni, who we know that he wants to
- 4:02Speaker 1: play a certain style.
- 4:03Speaker 3: He's made that very clear.
- 4:05Speaker 1: There are certain elements to the offense that has been
- 4:08Speaker 1: largely absent over the last five years. Lack of the
- 4:11Speaker 1: middle of the field, throws, a lot of throws outside
- 4:13Speaker 1: the numbers, not checking down their running backs.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Right, there's not a lot of razzle dazzle. There's not
- 4:19Speaker 2: a lot of that motion.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You don't see half of not even a fraction of
- 4:23Speaker 1: what you saw the forty nine ers be able to do.
- 4:26Speaker 3: If a new.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Offensive coordinator comes in and he has the advised by
- 4:30Speaker 1: those same type of principles, will that work or will
- 4:35Speaker 1: the Eagles revert back to the same philosophy that they've
- 4:40Speaker 1: had for the past few seasons.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying

- 8:00Speaker 6: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 8:04Speaker 6: one and up.
- 8:05Speaker 1: It's a fair question to ask, right, I mean, look
- 8:08Speaker 1: what Kellen Moore's offense looked like before he got to Philadelphia,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and after Philadelphia.
- 8:14Speaker 3: What it looked like with the Chargers.
- 8:16Speaker 1: They brought him in, fresh ideas, new concepts, and there
- 8:20Speaker 1: was all this talk about motion and how that was
- 8:22Speaker 1: going to change the game for the Eagles, and they
- 8:24Speaker 1: did a little bit of it, but it wasn't anywhere
- 8:27Speaker 1: close to the offenses that Kellen Moore had in the past.
- 8:30Speaker 2: What's the difference. They had a dynamic rushing attack.
- 8:33Speaker 1: They didn't put a spotlight on some of the shortcomings
- 8:36Speaker 1: offensively that you saw across the board this year for
- 8:38Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 8:39Speaker 3: So that's one of the big questions that I have.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And for Kevin Patulo, we'll see what the future holds
- 8:49Speaker 1: for him. Great guy, obviously, he is a sharp guy.
- 8:54Speaker 1: You don't coach as long as he has been around
- 8:58Speaker 1: the different mind Shan Gaily and all those guys and
- 9:01Speaker 1: not pick things up. He's a smart guy and he's
- 9:03Speaker 1: respected in that building. I can tell you that it
- 9:07Speaker 1: didn't work out. Something had to be done, and the
- 9:09Speaker 1: Eagles will now turn to another offensive coordinator. And that
- 9:12Speaker 1: means that for those that are in the continuity camp
- 9:15Speaker 1: and concerned about that. Well, Jalen Hurts is going to
- 9:18Speaker 1: have to learn a new offensive coordinator once again. I
- 9:21Speaker 1: believe this will be his seventh in the NFL, So
- 9:24Speaker 1: that's something that Look, it's going to require some patience.
- 9:27Speaker 1: You're gonna have to understand that if you're bringing in
- 9:30Speaker 1: a new OC, you might start out a little bit
- 9:33Speaker 1: like they did under Kellen Moore.
- 9:35Speaker 2: It takes time to for the players to learn the
- 9:39Speaker 2: coordinator and get comfortable.
- 9:40Speaker 1: With his philosophy and burbage and all those things, and
- 9:44Speaker 1: it also takes time for everything.
- 9:47Speaker 3: To kind of take shape.
- 9:48Speaker 1: The players need to learn the coordinator, the coordinator needs
- 9:50Speaker 1: to learn his personnel, and sometimes you're feeling things out
- 9:54Speaker 1: and we saw that, you know, play out in real
- 9:57Speaker 1: time with Kellen Moore when he was here. If you
- 10:00Speaker 1: and I think revisionist history is kind of amusing sometimes,
- 10:03Speaker 1: Kellen Moore was heavily scrutinized for the first four weeks
- 10:07Speaker 1: of the season when the offense wasn't performing the standard.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Now that should all be baked in, and I think
- 10:14Speaker 1: you look around at some of the different coordinators out there,
- 10:17Speaker 1: there are some enticing options.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Right, you have Todd Munkin, you have Mike McDaniel and Nathan.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Shieldhouse, who the Eagles looked at in twenty twenty three.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I believe you know there are some names out there,
- 10:32Speaker 1: but it's gonna have to be the perfect marriage. And
- 10:36Speaker 1: I'm curious to see if this new play car will
- 10:39Speaker 1: in fact have full autonomy. And in that case, you're
- 10:42Speaker 1: going to see different looks and you will get the
- 10:45Speaker 1: offense that you've all been hoping for. But I always
- 10:48Speaker 1: say be careful what you wish for, because that continuity
- 10:51Speaker 1: piece is real, and it's there are growing pains that
- 10:55Speaker 1: should be expected across the board. I do think that
- 10:58Speaker 1: Jalen Hurt should have a say in who the chordator
- 11:00Speaker 1: will be. He's the quarterback after all, and the offense
- 11:03Speaker 1: runs through him. He touched the ball in every play,
- 11:05Speaker 1: So there's gonna be a lot at play here and
- 11:08Speaker 1: a lot of things to consider. But just a quick update,
- 11:11Speaker 1: the Eagles have moved on from Kevin Patula's offensive coordinator
- 11:14Speaker 1: and we'll see where they go from here, but for now,
- 11:18Speaker 1: that's going to do it for this edition of The
- 11:19Speaker 1: check O Daily. I'm Andrew Decheco, and I will catch
- 11:22Speaker 1: you all on the next one.
