- 1:52Speaker 1: Now time for my final pre draft podcast with Dave Lapham,
- 1:56Speaker 1: which is typically one of the most downloaded episodes of
- 2:00Speaker 1: the year, since everybody wants to know who lap thinks
- 2:03Speaker 1: the Bengals are going to pick. Lap Let's start with
- 2:08Speaker 1: the all important need question. What is the number one
- 2:12Speaker 1: thing the Bengals must get in this draft?
- 2:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think when you look at it, Dan, in
- 2:18Speaker 2: my mind, it's an interior, offensive and defensive lineman, and
- 2:22Speaker 2: I probably have to say offensive lineman more so. You know,
- 2:26Speaker 2: you do have a couple of young prospects that you
- 2:29Speaker 2: drafted last year in the second and third round at
- 2:32Speaker 2: the defensive tactical position.
- 2:35Speaker 3: You know, that.
- 2:37Speaker 2: That you're you're you're working with and you're trying to
- 2:40Speaker 2: improved from year one to year two. And I thought
- 2:45Speaker 2: they were both worthy of being selected, you know where
- 2:48Speaker 2: they were Jenkins McKinley in the second and third round, respectively.
- 2:53Speaker 2: But rookies are are exactly that. Rookies are young players
- 2:57Speaker 2: that need to learn a little bit. And I think
- 2:59Speaker 2: they went through that learning process. Uh, Jenkins obviously had
- 3:02Speaker 2: the injury that slowed him down. A hand injury to
- 3:05Speaker 2: a defensive lineman or an offensive lineman is brutal. When
- 3:09Speaker 2: you can't you're allowed to use your hands in the
- 3:11Speaker 2: National Football League and when the other guy can't you
- 3:15Speaker 2: can you can't.
- 3:16Speaker 3: It's very tough.
- 3:17Speaker 2: So, you know, I do think that they will address
- 3:20Speaker 2: the interior of the defensive line at some point. I
- 3:24Speaker 2: do think though, that the interior of the Bengals offensive
- 3:27Speaker 2: line that that definitely needs to be addressed. Uh, you know,
- 3:30Speaker 2: you you, uh, you have a situation where it's a
- 3:34Speaker 2: it's anybody's anybody's job right now at that at that
- 3:37Speaker 2: guard position. And I think that it's going to be
- 3:41Speaker 2: a very very big competition. You know, you sign one
- 3:45Speaker 2: in free agency and and I think Patrick's a good player,
- 3:49Speaker 2: There's no question about that. I think you know he's
- 3:51Speaker 2: a He's a guy that that is worthy of being signed.
- 3:54Speaker 2: The Bengals do sign him to that contract and unrestricted
- 3:57Speaker 2: free agency. Cordell Wolson that put on the bench toward
- 4:04Speaker 2: the end of the season last year, so he's going
- 4:07Speaker 2: to have to come back hard and compete for a
- 4:10Speaker 2: position inside. And Cody Ford has shown that position versatility
- 4:16Speaker 2: that's all so important. You know, he played both tackles
- 4:19Speaker 2: and both guards last year for of the five positions,
- 4:22Speaker 2: and I think you know he'll get a shot at
- 4:26Speaker 2: that guard position, one of the guard positions, and rightfully so.
- 4:29Speaker 2: But I do think that all things being equal, I'm
- 4:33Speaker 2: not saying you necessarily do it at seventeen if there
- 4:37Speaker 2: are other things available that might not be as big
- 4:41Speaker 2: a priority but would make your football team better, because
- 4:45Speaker 2: I do think that staying along the lines of the
- 4:48Speaker 2: best available player is the best way to go.
- 4:52Speaker 3: That's the way you improve your roster.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm with you to me, the number one need is
- 4:58Speaker 1: getting a starting guard, but you don't necessarily have to
- 5:01Speaker 1: do it in round one. You ticked off the list
- 5:04Speaker 1: of guys that they have and Hopefully new offensive line
- 5:07Speaker 1: coach Scott Peters works with that group and a solid
- 5:11Speaker 1: starter emerges, but they need to. Alex Kapp is gone,
- 5:15Speaker 1: Cordel Bowlson his bench. So yeah, I think out of
- 5:18Speaker 1: that group that you described, you can reasonably assume that
- 5:21Speaker 1: a good starter is going to emerge. I just think
- 5:24Speaker 1: hoping for two out of that group would be rolling
- 5:26Speaker 1: the dice. So they could still sign Brandon Sheriff, Dalton Reisner,
- 5:31Speaker 1: Will Hernandez somebody after the draft if they don't get
- 5:33Speaker 1: the type of player they like. But this looks to
- 5:36Speaker 1: be a really good draft for guards. You've got Calvin
- 5:40Speaker 1: Banks would be converting from tackle to guard in the NFL,
- 5:45Speaker 1: Tyler Booker, Gray Zabel, there are Day two guys Donovan Jackson,
- 5:50Speaker 1: Jonah Savoy and Nya Marcus bo Tate Ratlich and others.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Let's invest the necessary draft capital to get a quality guard.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It's going to help protect Joe Burrow for several years
- 6:04Speaker 1: to come. This is the year to do it for me.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And and I think another guy, Tristan Cologne guy out
- 6:09Speaker 2: of Arizona, an interior you know, offensive Lineman has been
- 6:12Speaker 2: another Like you said, Dan, you rattled off you guys
- 6:16Speaker 2: on my list, and uh and and UH, you know,
- 6:18Speaker 2: there there are probably others that the Bengals feel confident about.
- 6:24Speaker 3: So I do.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I do think that that that position will be addressed,
- 6:28Speaker 2: and in my opinion, UH, i'd like to seeing address.
- 6:31Speaker 3: More than once.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And the way that they're going to do that is,
- 6:33Speaker 2: I think they move back in the draft, uh with
- 6:36Speaker 2: that seventeenth pick. If you know, they're right in the
- 6:39Speaker 2: middle of the first round, and they've they've always got
- 6:41Speaker 2: groupings of players you know, at each at each spot
- 6:44Speaker 2: uh in the draft, and the Bengals with that, with
- 6:48Speaker 2: that seventeenth selection, as it's as it's coming up, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 2: it's like, okay, well we've got a few of our
- 6:54Speaker 2: uh guys that we've got in a grouping. But man,
- 6:59Speaker 2: if we can back a few and still have you know,
- 7:03Speaker 2: two or three of our grouping of five available to us,
- 7:07Speaker 2: let's do that. Because they've got pick seventeen, they've got
- 7:09Speaker 2: forty nine. They don't pick till forty nine in the
- 7:12Speaker 2: second round, and then in the third round they don't
- 7:14Speaker 2: pick until eighty one. So if they can get you know,
- 7:18Speaker 2: another second round pick or another third round pick and
- 7:22Speaker 2: address the offensive black Zech Ruth. I don't necessarily think
- 7:25Speaker 2: it's going to be a pick seventeen, but if they could,
- 7:29Speaker 2: if they do get an extra pick in the second
- 7:32Speaker 2: or third round, I don't necessarily think you have to
- 7:34Speaker 2: go offensive lineman back to back, you know, selections. You know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: if you have two second round picks, you've got to
- 7:39Speaker 2: do two interior alignement with those two second round picks,
- 7:42Speaker 2: or two thirds the same going with an interior alignment twice.
- 7:46Speaker 2: But I do think that there's it gives you an
- 7:49Speaker 2: opportunity to double down, you know, and maybe increase the
- 7:54Speaker 2: odds of one of them being the kind of football
- 7:57Speaker 2: player that you were hoping. And can you really give
- 7:59Speaker 2: you some quality staffs in that in that rookie season,
- 8:03Speaker 2: you know, I know, I know Zach and as Prusser
- 8:06Speaker 2: you know, said that they're not not looking for rookies
- 8:09Speaker 2: to start. They've got starters everywhere. They feel comfortable with that.
- 8:12Speaker 2: But in that and that should be you know, that
- 8:15Speaker 2: should be his message. I mean, everybody has to compete
- 8:17Speaker 2: for a position. But I know there's there's good players
- 8:22Speaker 2: out there, and and the guys, the guys that I
- 8:24Speaker 2: really like, I like the way he plays, I like
- 8:28Speaker 2: his career path. I like the kind of person he
- 8:32Speaker 2: seems to be as well as football player Will Campbell
- 8:35Speaker 2: out of l s u Uh. You know this guy.
- 8:38Speaker 2: We talked about it a lot. Okay, boy, this position versatility.
- 8:42Speaker 2: This guy can play guard and tackle. I haven't played
- 8:45Speaker 2: you know, all five, all five of the positions I can.
- 8:49Speaker 2: In my mind, it was easier to transition physically from
- 8:53Speaker 2: tackle to guard to move inside from tackle to guard,
- 8:57Speaker 2: but mentally much different situation. The speed of the game
- 9:01Speaker 2: is a lot quicker.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Uh.
- 9:03Speaker 2: You have to make calls, You have to be quick minded,
- 9:07Speaker 2: You have to recognize what the what the defense is
- 9:10Speaker 2: trying to do from a structure standpoint. You have to
- 9:12Speaker 2: make an appropriate call with blocking patterns take care of that.
- 9:16Speaker 2: So there's a lot bigger challenge mentally kicking inside from
- 9:21Speaker 2: from tackle to guard. The tackle doesn't really have to
- 9:23Speaker 2: worry about a lot of that. Tackle just has to
- 9:25Speaker 2: take care of his lane, you know, on that outside
- 9:28Speaker 2: the traffic on the interstate. It's a lot busier inside
- 9:31Speaker 2: with the between the the guards in the center, with
- 9:35Speaker 2: the defensive tackles and the linebackers that can play with
- 9:38Speaker 2: you and mess around and bringing safeties up into the
- 9:40Speaker 2: box and all that sort of thing. So sometimes guys
- 9:45Speaker 2: struggle a little bit with that. Physically not an issue
- 9:48Speaker 2: from to slide from tackle to guard, but mentally, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 2: can they handle it?
- 9:52Speaker 3: And it seems like.
- 9:53Speaker 2: There's a lot of a lot of guys that have
- 9:55Speaker 2: already played both, so they've proven that, and I think, uh,
- 10:00Speaker 2: there's a lot of guys that are capable of playing
- 10:03Speaker 2: both but haven't been asked to yet. From a mental standpoint,
- 10:05Speaker 2: it seems like there's a pretty good group. And that's
- 10:08Speaker 2: the thing I think in general about this draft in
- 10:10Speaker 2: is the depth. You know, I mean every position group
- 10:13Speaker 2: has got some depth to it. I mean, the running
- 10:16Speaker 2: back position is ridiculous. You know, there's all there's all
- 10:19Speaker 2: kinds of depth there. The wide receiver position has a
- 10:23Speaker 2: ton of depth to it as well, And the Bengals
- 10:25Speaker 2: aren't necessarily in the market for, you know, for either
- 10:28Speaker 2: of those positions, but I mean there's there's so many
- 10:31Speaker 2: of them and their quality. You know, when when your
- 10:34Speaker 2: pick comes up, whatever it is, what round it is,
- 10:37Speaker 2: I mean that may be one of those one of
- 10:39Speaker 2: those position groups, maybe the best available athlete on the board,
- 10:42Speaker 2: and you pull the trigger on it because you're always
- 10:46Speaker 2: looking to improve your football team.
- 10:48Speaker 3: But I think that bodes well.
- 10:50Speaker 2: You know, It's like there's there's maybe a little bit
- 10:53Speaker 2: of a dip after the first I don't know, somewhere
- 10:57Speaker 2: between five and ten picks, a little bit of a depth.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Then it goes for and then there's not a fall
- 11:01Speaker 2: off the cliff gip. I mean, there's maybe another little dip.
- 11:04Speaker 2: But well, I'll tell you, you know, you get into
- 11:05Speaker 2: the into the uh you know, second, third, and fourth rounds,
- 11:11Speaker 2: even the fifth round. There's good football players there. There's
- 11:13Speaker 2: there's no question about it. That's why I think trading
- 11:17Speaker 2: back and accumulating another one, you know, makes some sense.
- 11:21Speaker 2: The Bengals only have six draft picks. They've traditionally had
- 11:25Speaker 2: had more than that in the last few years. I'd
- 11:28Speaker 2: like to see it happen again.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I do think they're going to trade back. I think
- 11:33Speaker 1: it's most likely in round two. I was taking a
- 11:36Speaker 1: look at Round one, specifically at the team's picking, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: within a few spots behind them, and trying to take
- 11:42Speaker 1: note of who had extra picks, and the one team
- 11:45Speaker 1: that could conceivably make sense is Houston. They've got the
- 11:49Speaker 1: twenty fifth pick, they've got an extra third rounder, and
- 11:53Speaker 1: their GM, Nick Casserly is a wheeler, wheeler and dealer.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I think he's averaged five draft trade a year since
- 12:01Speaker 1: he's been their GM, so he loves to, you know,
- 12:04Speaker 1: move up, move back, move up, move back. So it
- 12:07Speaker 1: would have to make sense for somebody that Houston wants.
- 12:10Speaker 1: If you look at one of those trade value charts,
- 12:13Speaker 1: the value comes close to matching up with the twenty
- 12:18Speaker 1: fifth pick for the seventeenth pick plus a third rounder.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So you know, from a trade value stand up maybe
- 12:25Speaker 1: or standpoint rather maybe. But I really think the more
- 12:29Speaker 1: likely scenario is the second round because in recent years
- 12:32Speaker 1: that's when the Bengals have done it. They have made
- 12:34Speaker 1: a second round draft trade. In five out of the
- 12:37Speaker 1: last eight years. They've moved down four times. They've moved
- 12:42Speaker 1: up once when they moved up three spots to to
- 12:44Speaker 1: get Cam Taylor Britt. So what can they get if
- 12:48Speaker 1: they moved down in the second round? And again, look
- 12:52Speaker 1: at one of those trade value charts, every spot you
- 12:55Speaker 1: go back is worth ten points. So if you go
- 12:59Speaker 1: back five spots, it's worth fifty points on the draft chart.
- 13:04Speaker 1: If you go back ten it's worth one hundred points
- 13:06Speaker 1: on the draft chart, fifty points is a fourth round pick.
- 13:11Speaker 1: One hundred points is a low third round pick. So
- 13:14Speaker 1: that's the kind of pick they could get by moving
- 13:18Speaker 1: back in the second round. And I really think that
- 13:20Speaker 1: that makes sense to me.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and I, like we talked about a little bit earlier,
- 13:26Speaker 2: the draft is still deep at that point. You know,
- 13:28Speaker 2: it's not like, oh man, you move back, you're sacrificing
- 13:33Speaker 2: an opportunity to get the better football players.
- 13:37Speaker 3: There's still a lot of them there. You know.
- 13:38Speaker 2: If you can move back and stay in the second, third,
- 13:44Speaker 2: and fourth round, get an extra third round pick by
- 13:47Speaker 2: moving back a little bit in the second round. I
- 13:49Speaker 2: do that all day, every day in this particular draft,
- 13:52Speaker 2: because the draft is.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Okay.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Hall of famer nah, I mean, you can't make any
- 14:00Speaker 2: he call on a Hall of famer even before they
- 14:02Speaker 2: take a snap in the National Football League, even before
- 14:05Speaker 2: you know what what team they're going to does the
- 14:07Speaker 2: team's uh way you're doing things fit what that player's
- 14:12Speaker 2: talents are, uh physically you know some That's the thing.
- 14:16Speaker 2: The draft is such a crapshoot because you're going to
- 14:18Speaker 2: match the skill set of the player with the schematic
- 14:21Speaker 2: that you're running and is there a fit there? And
- 14:23Speaker 2: if there's not, does the player have the physical capabilities
- 14:26Speaker 2: of adjusting to your schematic? And there's a lot that
- 14:29Speaker 2: goes goes into that, and you're starting to roll the
- 14:32Speaker 2: roll the dice a little bit. So I mean you
- 14:34Speaker 2: never have slam dunk. Oh yeah, I mean if we
- 14:37Speaker 2: can get an extra third round pick, we know this
- 14:38Speaker 2: guy is going to be, you know, a potential pro bowler. Dah,
- 14:41Speaker 2: you don't. You don't even know if your first round
- 14:43Speaker 2: is going to be a potential pro bowler. But the
- 14:46Speaker 2: key is increasing your odds of finding you know, that
- 14:49Speaker 2: type of player, you know. And and the great Paul Brown,
- 14:52Speaker 2: his his whole mindset, uh was, was draft, develop, and
- 14:56Speaker 2: retain that That's what that's what he built is his uh,
- 15:00Speaker 2: his legend on and it certainly was a very unbelievable
- 15:04Speaker 2: legend that he built. And and he was the master
- 15:08Speaker 2: and you know, identifying, you know, the first thing you
- 15:10Speaker 2: have to do is identify, uh, the player does it
- 15:13Speaker 2: does is it a fit like we just talked about,
- 15:16Speaker 2: and then you know, draft him accordingly appropriately and then
- 15:20Speaker 2: developed that player and then when that first contracts up,
- 15:23Speaker 2: retain them you know, don't uh, don't go through the
- 15:26Speaker 2: whole process of of uh, the the cost and and
- 15:30Speaker 2: the the commitment, the work commitment that that your franchise
- 15:34Speaker 2: is doing to develop the player all from the management
- 15:38Speaker 2: to the coaches, to teammates to whatever, and let somebody
- 15:40Speaker 2: else benefit, you know. On the second contract, the retention
- 15:44Speaker 2: part of it was big for Paul.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Lap on your In the Trenches podcast. You've done some
- 15:49Speaker 1: great recent episodes with Mike Potts and Stephen Radissovich from
- 15:52Speaker 1: the Bengals personnel department. Based on those conversations and your
- 15:56Speaker 1: own research, does the strength of this draft bit the
- 16:01Speaker 1: Bengals needs.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I really believe so, you know, I think that, uh,
- 16:06Speaker 2: that it does. I mean, you know, I think the
- 16:10Speaker 2: biggest need obviously is the interior of the offensive and
- 16:14Speaker 2: defensive line, like we talked about. But uh, if you
- 16:17Speaker 2: draft a guy at the tackle position and he proves
- 16:20Speaker 2: to be uh, you know, that's that's his best spot.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Can never have enough tackles, you know, I mean, uh,
- 16:27Speaker 2: if God forbid injury or or or whatever. An offensive
- 16:31Speaker 2: tackle is a is a key commodity in the National
- 16:34Speaker 2: Football League. Somebody that can can play that spot and uh,
- 16:37Speaker 2: if it's going to take a while for him to
- 16:40Speaker 2: maybe you know, be a big contributor at the tackle position,
- 16:44Speaker 2: or if.
- 16:44Speaker 3: He can while he's in the weight as such.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Uh, you know, then then of course if he can
- 16:50Speaker 2: kick in the guard and solve that problem, you know,
- 16:53Speaker 2: that's huge. So I mean, drafting a guard is a
- 16:58Speaker 2: big key. But again, I think if you can find
- 17:01Speaker 2: a tackle that has that position flexibility and versatility, I
- 17:05Speaker 2: think that's a that's a that's a big deal.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Uh.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Interior defensive tackle position I think is pretty deep. You know,
- 17:12Speaker 2: you have the g men out of Michigan and they're
- 17:14Speaker 2: they're slated to go Graham and Grant, they're slated to
- 17:17Speaker 2: go maybe a little bit a little bit higher. But
- 17:20Speaker 2: you know, I think I think the defensive tackle position
- 17:23Speaker 2: is is very very deep. And then the edge rush position,
- 17:27Speaker 2: I mean, there's a bunch of good edge rush guys.
- 17:30Speaker 2: And in the National Football League, a big thing that
- 17:33Speaker 2: you need is somebody to heat up the passer, get
- 17:36Speaker 2: after the quarterback and not necessarily you know, running up
- 17:39Speaker 2: a huge tab sacks all that, although that would be great,
- 17:43Speaker 2: but just pressuring him even uh is viotally important. And uh,
- 17:49Speaker 2: you shrinking the pocket on the quarterback, not letting the
- 17:52Speaker 2: quarterback just stand there comfortably in the pocket and and
- 17:55Speaker 2: pick you apart, or maybe climb the pocket and buy
- 17:57Speaker 2: time to pick you apart. And when you push the pocket,
- 18:00Speaker 2: you obstruct his vision. So the middle of the football
- 18:03Speaker 2: field becomes cloudy for the quarterback. And that's always a
- 18:06Speaker 2: big deal.
- 18:07Speaker 3: You know. He sometimes they're throwing the football.
- 18:09Speaker 2: And they're hoping and guessing a little bit that it's
- 18:11Speaker 2: going to be, you know, where they hope to successfully
- 18:15Speaker 2: make a completion.
- 18:16Speaker 3: So it that I think, I think that's a that's
- 18:19Speaker 3: a big deal.
- 18:20Speaker 2: But I do think there's there's depth that just about
- 18:23Speaker 2: every position group in this in this draft, it may
- 18:27Speaker 2: not be a draft that has you know, more Hall
- 18:31Speaker 2: of famers potential Hall of famers than any other draft
- 18:33Speaker 2: in the history of the National Football League.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Or more Pro Bowl.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Players in the early stages of their career than any
- 18:40Speaker 2: other draft in the history of the National Football League.
- 18:42Speaker 2: There's a lot of damn good football players in this
- 18:45Speaker 2: draft that can help help you build out a roster
- 18:49Speaker 2: and improve your franchise in the National Football League. And
- 18:52Speaker 2: I think the Bengals, you know, hopefully take full advantage
- 18:56Speaker 2: of it, and again like to see him get another
- 18:58Speaker 2: pick in so doing.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I do think that the strength of the draft is
- 19:04Speaker 1: the trenches, and that obviously would fit the Bengals needs.
- 19:08Speaker 1: And I think it's worth pointing out that while it
- 19:10Speaker 1: is good in the trenches this year, it's not necessarily
- 19:12Speaker 1: a great offensive tackle draft, unlike last year. If Amarus
- 19:18Speaker 1: Mims was in this draft, I think he's one of
- 19:22Speaker 1: the top tackles on the board. He might go top
- 19:26Speaker 1: ten or top five if he were in this draft.
- 19:29Speaker 1: And last year, because there were so many great tackles,
- 19:32Speaker 1: he was the fifth tackle taken and the number eighteen
- 19:34Speaker 1: player overall. So strength and need lined up really nicely
- 19:38Speaker 1: for the Bengals last year. And then looking at it
- 19:42Speaker 1: in a different way, it sounds like the relative weakness
- 19:47Speaker 1: of this draft is quarterback and wide receiver. Not that
- 19:50Speaker 1: there aren't good ones, but there may be aren't great ones.
- 19:54Speaker 1: It sounds like the wide receivers in particular, you know
- 19:57Speaker 1: a bunch of good ones, a bunch that will play
- 19:59Speaker 1: for you, but not necessarily number ones. And who knows
- 20:02Speaker 1: about the quarterbacks, they seem like it's kind of a
- 20:04Speaker 1: crapshoot year where the quarterbacks are concerned. In this division,
- 20:10Speaker 1: the Browns and Steelers need quarterbacks. They'll probably use a
- 20:14Speaker 1: high pick on a guy that will be forced to
- 20:17Speaker 1: play at some point, and if he turns out to
- 20:19Speaker 1: be a bus that could sent two of their rivals
- 20:23Speaker 1: back a little bit. So I think it's a year
- 20:25Speaker 1: where not only do the strengths fit the Bengals needs,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but the weaknesses don't help some of their key rivals.
- 20:33Speaker 3: I agree, I agree, and I think you know this draft.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Quarterbacks are always the value of the quarterback is paramount
- 20:45Speaker 2: in the National Football League. Obviously, quarterback if it's not
- 20:48Speaker 2: the most important position, and it is the most important
- 20:51Speaker 2: position in football, if it's not the most important position
- 20:54Speaker 2: in all of sports, I don't know what. I don't
- 20:56Speaker 2: know what other position is. So everybody's looking for their quarterback.
- 21:00Speaker 2: And and for that reason, you know, cam Ward, Shadura,
- 21:05Speaker 2: Sanders Jackson, darn those guys. And I hope every one
- 21:09Speaker 2: of them. I hope they all go in the top five.
- 21:11Speaker 3: I hope, I hope.
- 21:12Speaker 2: They they go up and they're shaking the Commissioner's hand
- 21:16Speaker 2: right away, you know, I mean, I hope, I hope
- 21:17Speaker 2: that's the h I hope that's the case as many
- 21:20Speaker 2: of those guys and as many wide receivers as possible.
- 21:23Speaker 2: So when it does get down to seventeen, the Bengals
- 21:26Speaker 2: have a plethora. It's like, man, are you kidding me?
- 21:30Speaker 2: We're definitely trading back. We've got we've got options at
- 21:35Speaker 2: the interior offensive line position, in the interior defensive line position.
- 21:40Speaker 2: We have options in multiple, multiple spots. But if for
- 21:44Speaker 2: some reason, you know, a player is sliding, it's like
- 21:49Speaker 2: because of that, because all the quarterbacks and other people
- 21:52Speaker 2: are being taken, you know, early early on in the
- 21:54Speaker 2: in the draft. And I don't think the Bengals move up,
- 21:58Speaker 2: but they could very well stay at seventeen. They say, man,
- 22:01Speaker 2: it might make sense to sit tight here because look
- 22:03Speaker 2: at some of the stuff that's falling.
- 22:05Speaker 3: I mean, it's like, let's let's be patient, let's be prudent.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And uh, you know, they they they showed that, uh
- 22:13Speaker 2: the Joe Burrow Draft. They draft Joe Burrow and they
- 22:17Speaker 2: sit tight and there's uh, there's Te Higgins, you know,
- 22:20Speaker 2: sitting there at the uh at the with the thirty
- 22:22Speaker 2: third pick of the draft, and the and the Bengals,
- 22:25Speaker 2: you know, they they had targeted him and he was wanted.
- 22:28Speaker 2: When he fell to them, it was incredible that that
- 22:32Speaker 2: he was there, and they were very very fortunate and blessed,
- 22:35Speaker 2: and lo and behold there's Logan Wilson, you know, in
- 22:37Speaker 2: the third round. So they get three guys that they
- 22:39Speaker 2: in that draft that they had identified, you know, as
- 22:42Speaker 2: as guys that they they held in high regard, and
- 22:45Speaker 2: all three of them, you know, fall to them. So
- 22:48Speaker 2: sometimes patience is a virtue, uh, not only in life
- 22:51Speaker 2: in general, but in the draft as well. And the
- 22:54Speaker 2: Bengals have shown that they've shown an ability to trade
- 22:57Speaker 2: trade back. So so it'll be interesting to see how
- 23:02Speaker 2: how how draft day doesn't pulled and how early some
- 23:06Speaker 2: of these quarterbacks go, because they're always going to be
- 23:09Speaker 2: picked earlier than I'm not saying that they deserve necessarily,
- 23:14Speaker 2: but earlier than anticipated. I mean a lot of a
- 23:16Speaker 2: lot of people. And it all depends on your need.
- 23:18Speaker 2: I mean, if you need a quarterback, hell, you're going
- 23:21Speaker 2: to have them all up there, real high on your
- 23:22Speaker 2: on your draft board. If you're like the Bengals with
- 23:25Speaker 2: Joe Burrow, they're not. Everybody's draft board is different for
- 23:30Speaker 2: those reasons. Based on those needs. That's why everybody has
- 23:33Speaker 2: a uh, you know, has an organizational mock draft, and
- 23:37Speaker 2: there's thirty two of the of franchises and thirty two
- 23:40Speaker 2: drafts mock drafts of those franchises. They're all going to
- 23:43Speaker 2: be different because every one of them has has a
- 23:46Speaker 2: different need, and maybe the top fifty players that each
- 23:52Speaker 2: each team puts on the board could be similar, and
- 23:57Speaker 2: there may be just a little bit of movement, you know,
- 23:59Speaker 2: and some of those positional rankings because of need, you're
- 24:03Speaker 2: always going to factor need in. So the fact that
- 24:07Speaker 2: the Bengals don't need a quarterback, I think is anytime
- 24:12Speaker 2: you go into a draft not needing the important position
- 24:16Speaker 2: to function as a team, you're in pretty good shape.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Lap the Bengals top thirty visits included Ohio State running
- 24:22Speaker 1: backs Trayvon Henderson and Quinn Shawn Judkins. Henderson's projected as
- 24:27Speaker 1: a second round pick. Judkins is projected as a second
- 24:31Speaker 1: or third round pick. They've got Chase Brown, They're bringing
- 24:34Speaker 1: back some JP Ryan. This week, it was announced that
- 24:37Speaker 1: they've renegotiated a contract with Zach Moss. So, assuming his
- 24:41Speaker 1: neck is okay, it looks like he could be back.
- 24:44Speaker 1: What do you make of the Bengals interest in these
- 24:47Speaker 1: early round running backs.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I think, like we talked about, the
- 24:52Speaker 2: running back position is probably the star position in this
- 24:55Speaker 2: year's draft in terms of quality player depth, and I
- 24:59Speaker 2: think as much as anything doing their due diligence. You know,
- 25:02Speaker 2: another guy like is Omarion Hampton out of North Carolina.
- 25:06Speaker 2: I think you know, he's got size, he's got uh skills.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I mean, there's so many of these running backs that
- 25:12Speaker 2: they're not just able to run. They can, obviously, but
- 25:16Speaker 2: they're not a one trick pony. It's not Oh, give
- 25:18Speaker 2: them the football and they can. They can run the
- 25:20Speaker 2: football and that's it.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Now.
- 25:22Speaker 2: These guys they run the football at a high level,
- 25:25Speaker 2: but then they can run routes and catch the football
- 25:28Speaker 2: at a high level. And most importantly or very importantly
- 25:33Speaker 2: in the National Football because we talk about how it
- 25:35Speaker 2: being a passing league, and Joe Burrow in the Cincinnati
- 25:39Speaker 2: Bengals are very much and not an embarrassed or ashamed
- 25:43Speaker 2: to say that we throw the football. So you got
- 25:45Speaker 2: to have your running backs to be able to put
- 25:48Speaker 2: their nose in right down the middle of people and
- 25:50Speaker 2: pick them up and blitz, pick up and that's where
- 25:53Speaker 2: Samaji p run I think that's such a big acquisition
- 25:57Speaker 2: and as an understood to free agent because man, I mean,
- 26:00Speaker 2: he's a big guy under six feet tall, but Wayne
- 26:03Speaker 2: two unning thirty pounds, you know, and he has to
- 26:06Speaker 2: make you miss to him, and he can run you
- 26:08Speaker 2: over as well.
- 26:08Speaker 3: There's nothing a defender hates more than.
- 26:11Speaker 2: A back, like, oh, man, do I go in there
- 26:14Speaker 2: and anchor hard because he's gonna try to run me over.
- 26:16Speaker 2: But if I do that, he's gonna make me miss.
- 26:18Speaker 2: And if I go in there soft, he's gonna lower
- 26:20Speaker 2: his pads and run me over.
- 26:21Speaker 3: You know.
- 26:21Speaker 2: And Somaji can do that at that type of thing
- 26:24Speaker 2: to you in the running game. And then he's always
- 26:26Speaker 2: been a really good rout runner and capture the football.
- 26:29Speaker 2: And since he's been with the Cincinnati Bengals and now back,
- 26:34Speaker 2: he was good at blitz pick up, but he's become outstanding.
- 26:37Speaker 2: I mean, he's one of the best blitz pickup guys
- 26:40Speaker 2: in all of football. He sticks his nose right down
- 26:43Speaker 2: the middle of people and no no matter who they are,
- 26:45Speaker 2: if it's a linebacker, that is his responsibility. If he's
- 26:49Speaker 2: doesn't have any blitzer, if he has to help an
- 26:51Speaker 2: offensive lineman that may have been having some trouble and
- 26:54Speaker 2: getting beaten by a defense. He'll stick his nose right
- 26:56Speaker 2: in there on that defensive lineman. I mean, he's he's
- 26:59Speaker 2: a valuable, valuable asset. So I mean, I think a
- 27:01Speaker 2: lot of these running backs give you, you know, that
- 27:05Speaker 2: type of thing, and there's there's a good number of them,
- 27:08Speaker 2: so I think you do your due diligence, and you
- 27:10Speaker 2: can never have enough of those guys either. And so
- 27:14Speaker 2: it'll be interesting to see how high a running back
- 27:18Speaker 2: does go to the Cincinnati Bengals, because it looks like
- 27:21Speaker 2: you know they're going to address that position at some
- 27:23Speaker 2: point in time. And as Paul Brown, the Great Paul
- 27:28Speaker 2: Brown said as well, you can never have enough players
- 27:31Speaker 2: to put points on the board for you.
- 27:34Speaker 3: The guys will score touchdowns.
- 27:35Speaker 2: So when there's a guy that can score touchdowns that's
- 27:39Speaker 2: available to you in the draft and a spot that
- 27:41Speaker 2: you felt there's no way in hell that person was
- 27:44Speaker 2: going to be there, you got to pull the trader man.
- 27:47Speaker 1: I was a little surprised that they brought those Ohio
- 27:49Speaker 1: State guys in only because I can't see them using
- 27:52Speaker 1: a high pick. This year on a running back, but
- 27:55Speaker 1: Chase Brown was a fifth round pick, number one sixty
- 27:59Speaker 1: three overall. I think there are a lot of Chase
- 28:02Speaker 1: Browns in this draft. I feel like I saw about
- 28:05Speaker 1: six of them in the Big twelve. I mean, you
- 28:07Speaker 1: see is Corey Kiner as a really good football player.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I think he can play in the NFL. I don't
- 28:13Speaker 1: think he's going to get drafted this year, just because
- 28:16Speaker 1: there are so many good running backs in the Big twelve.
- 28:21Speaker 3: R J.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Harvey from UCF, DJ Geddons from Kansas State, Cam Skataboo,
- 28:26Speaker 1: who is awesome for Arizona State, TOAJ Brooks from Texas Tech,
- 28:30Speaker 1: Devin Neil from Kansas. It seemed like every team had
- 28:33Speaker 1: an NFL caliber running back and they're probably all Day
- 28:38Speaker 1: three guys. Maybe one of the guys I mentioned sneaks
- 28:41Speaker 1: into the third round, like Skataboo, but I think most
- 28:44Speaker 1: of those guys that I mentioned will either be Day
- 28:46Speaker 1: three or maybe even undrafted free agents. So if you're
- 28:51Speaker 1: looking to add depth at running back, you don't have
- 28:53Speaker 1: to do it high this year.
- 28:55Speaker 2: No question, no question about it. And you know the combine.
- 29:00Speaker 2: I got a copy of the players that showed up
- 29:02Speaker 2: at the combine. And that doesn't mean you know that
- 29:06Speaker 2: there's a player out there that's going to get drafted
- 29:08Speaker 2: that that you know wasn't at the combine, or wasn't
- 29:13Speaker 2: it wasn't at the combine.
- 29:15Speaker 3: But you know, the.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Combine is a pretty good example of what NFL teams
- 29:19Speaker 2: think about about players. And for example, they're there are
- 29:24Speaker 2: from an offensive lineman standpoint twenty five caliber center guard,
- 29:31Speaker 2: interior offensive line candidates went to the combine. I'm looking
- 29:35Speaker 2: at I don't know, maybe a half a dozen that
- 29:38Speaker 2: the Bengals would have significant interest in same thing. You know,
- 29:43Speaker 2: for the tackle position, twenty five of those and there's
- 29:46Speaker 2: you know, maybe half a dozen.
- 29:49Speaker 3: The running back position they had the most.
- 29:51Speaker 2: I mean, they had so many people to combine and
- 29:54Speaker 2: they might have had a dozen guys that I think, Man,
- 29:58Speaker 2: you know what, you got to take a second look
- 30:00Speaker 2: at this guy. You're gonna maybe take a third look
- 30:02Speaker 2: at this guy. And even even if you're set at
- 30:05Speaker 2: the running back position, the the the odds of an injury,
- 30:10Speaker 2: unfortunately at the running back position a hell of a
- 30:13Speaker 2: lot more than they are at the at the tackle
- 30:15Speaker 2: position or the guards position or whatever else. So you
- 30:17Speaker 2: can never have enough of those of those type of players,
- 30:21Speaker 2: So I do. I do believe there's gonna be a
- 30:23Speaker 2: lot of running backs drafted in this draft, for sure,
- 30:26Speaker 2: And then they don't. They'll they'll come as as college
- 30:30Speaker 2: free agents and have a legitimate chance of making a
- 30:33Speaker 2: football team or a practice squader, or where the case
- 30:35Speaker 2: may be.
- 30:37Speaker 1: The Bengals first third round pick last year was Jermaine Burton.
- 30:41Speaker 1: He's still on the roster, so the Bengals have not
- 30:43Speaker 1: given up on him, but will last year's experience where
- 30:47Speaker 1: they took him despite some red flags, have any impact
- 30:51Speaker 1: on what they do in this year's draft.
- 30:54Speaker 2: You always learn lessons, you know, and and if if
- 30:57Speaker 2: it doesn't work out, and you're you know, you're you're
- 31:01Speaker 2: getting close to that fire and you got it. You
- 31:04Speaker 2: know you're you're out and it's a cold evening, you
- 31:06Speaker 2: want to get your body warm. You get close to
- 31:08Speaker 2: that fire, and close to that fire, then all of
- 31:10Speaker 2: a sudden you get so close and it burns you
- 31:12Speaker 2: so and uh and in that situation you make a
- 31:16Speaker 2: call and uh and and you roll the dice and
- 31:19Speaker 2: and might get burned a little bit. I think every
- 31:24Speaker 2: case is an individual study. I heard Zach Taylor talk
- 31:28Speaker 2: about that that phraseology in his press and I thought
- 31:32Speaker 2: that was a that was a good good way to
- 31:34Speaker 2: put it. Every player is an individual case study. So
- 31:39Speaker 2: but but part of of what you experienced there, you
- 31:44Speaker 2: learn from it and you put it in the memory
- 31:46Speaker 2: bank and you put it in the files that you
- 31:48Speaker 2: can reference back to from an organizational standpoint, So I
- 31:53Speaker 2: do think that there was.
- 31:54Speaker 3: A learning uh.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Uh, a lesson learned, I think in the drafting of Burton.
- 32:02Speaker 2: And I do think that Burton was a highly regarded
- 32:05Speaker 2: I mean, you know, mid first round caliber type player,
- 32:09Speaker 2: and they got him in the third you know, and
- 32:11Speaker 2: so they probably thought, you know, a third round pick
- 32:14Speaker 2: is still a valuable pick, and ain't the middle of
- 32:16Speaker 2: the first round. So maybe we maybe we take a
- 32:19Speaker 2: little bit of a chance here and and uh and
- 32:21Speaker 2: see what happens. And that's not to say that that
- 32:24Speaker 2: Burton doesn't grow from his mistakes. You know that he
- 32:28Speaker 2: made last year from a behavior standpoint, But the the
- 32:34Speaker 2: the alarming thing is that the pattern continued, you know,
- 32:39Speaker 2: I mean, you hope that now that he's a pro
- 32:42Speaker 2: and he's making money and has an opportunity to make money,
- 32:47Speaker 2: that would would take care of his family for multiple generations,
- 32:50Speaker 2: potentially might give him a little inkling to change some
- 32:54Speaker 2: of his ways, and the fact that it necessarily didn't
- 32:58Speaker 2: can be alarming. So yeah, there's a lot to be
- 33:03Speaker 2: learned there for sure. But again, as Zach said, every
- 33:09Speaker 2: player is an individual case study.
- 33:13Speaker 1: The Bengals had three extra draft picks last year. They've
- 33:17Speaker 1: got one fewer than they should have this year. One
- 33:20Speaker 1: of those extra picks last year was in the third round,
- 33:23Speaker 1: So they took a calculated risk on Jermaine Burton because,
- 33:27Speaker 1: as you mentioned, he had first round talent, and at
- 33:31Speaker 1: least so far, it hasn't worked out very well. I
- 33:34Speaker 1: don't think it was a bad gamble every team. Yeah,
- 33:37Speaker 1: every team takes calculated risks in the draft. Sometimes we
- 33:41Speaker 1: know about it, sometimes we don't. They often work. Randy
- 33:46Speaker 1: Moss and Warren Warren Sap had red flags during the
- 33:49Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. Jalen Carter had major red flags a
- 33:53Speaker 1: couple of years ago. He just helped Eagles win the
- 33:55Speaker 1: Super Bowl. You do your best on those individual case
- 33:58Speaker 1: studies to evaluate the person and decide if he's worth
- 34:01Speaker 1: the risk. I don't see the Bengals taking big risks
- 34:04Speaker 1: this year because they only have six picks, not because
- 34:07Speaker 1: they are scared off from what happened with Jermaine last year.
- 34:11Speaker 3: I agree one hundred thousand percent with that. Dan.
- 34:13Speaker 2: And you know, it's it's funny when you're talking about
- 34:17Speaker 2: although it's not quite the same these days with college
- 34:22Speaker 2: football because you have multi millionaires playing the college football
- 34:26Speaker 2: transfer a portal, money and all that kind of thing,
- 34:28Speaker 2: and money to keep players out of the transfer for
- 34:31Speaker 2: a portal. I mean, it's it's it's a crazy uh,
- 34:34Speaker 2: it's a crazy deal now in college football. But I
- 34:37Speaker 2: remember back in the day, one concern that organizations had
- 34:43Speaker 2: was how will money change a guy? You know, it's like,
- 34:46Speaker 2: here's a guy that through high school and college, maybe
- 34:50Speaker 2: even earlier than that, his way out of a tough
- 34:53Speaker 2: way of life with sports and and you know, realized
- 34:58Speaker 2: that he had to, uh, somebody let them down the
- 35:01Speaker 2: proper path of Okay, make sure you keep track of academics,
- 35:05Speaker 2: where uh the fact that you might be progressing with
- 35:08Speaker 2: your athletic career, your academic career doesn't allow you to advance,
- 35:13Speaker 2: you know you're going to be in trouble. So you know,
- 35:17Speaker 2: you get guys that some guys fell off the off
- 35:21Speaker 2: the wagon after their high school careers because they didn't
- 35:23Speaker 2: take advice about the academics. Guys that took advice about
- 35:27Speaker 2: academics go to the collegiate ranks and and and you know,
- 35:31Speaker 2: continue to develop and build their careers. And then they
- 35:35Speaker 2: go to the National Football League and make money. And boy,
- 35:39Speaker 2: I'll tell you, I saw I saw cases of it.
- 35:42Speaker 2: You know, guys would get that uh that signing bonus
- 35:45Speaker 2: and and be different guys. I mean, the the the
- 35:48Speaker 2: irresponsibility portion of their of their personality came out, you know,
- 35:53Speaker 2: full force.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Man.
- 35:54Speaker 2: I mean it was crazy. And they couldn't get the
- 35:58Speaker 2: money in the bank positive quickly enough to cover the
- 36:00Speaker 2: fact they were buying them as erati or whatever. I mean,
- 36:03Speaker 2: it's like, oh, man, are you kidding me? Uh so, yeah,
- 36:07Speaker 2: It's it's interesting. It's you don't know how things are
- 36:12Speaker 2: going to affect players and maybe change them a little bit.
- 36:16Speaker 2: And every every single draft pick I shouldn't say every
- 36:19Speaker 2: single but a high percentage of the draft picks, or
- 36:22Speaker 2: if there's there's some risk involved, you know, there's some
- 36:26Speaker 2: you don't know exactly what you're gonna get, Like like
- 36:31Speaker 2: when the Bengals selected Kenny Anderson, and he panned out
- 36:34Speaker 2: like he did. You know, they felt like they knew
- 36:36Speaker 2: what they were going to get and they got it.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Joe Burrow, they felt like they knew where they were
- 36:39Speaker 2: going to get and they got it. Boomer Sisen. They
- 36:41Speaker 2: felt like they knew where they were going to get
- 36:43Speaker 2: and they got it. And that you know, that's just
- 36:45Speaker 2: the most important position of the quarterback position. But there
- 36:48Speaker 2: have been a ton around the league where it hasn't
- 36:50Speaker 2: panned out that way, and for the Bengals as well
- 36:52Speaker 2: at the quarterback position, UH in other positions. So the
- 36:56Speaker 2: draft is it's referred to as a crapshoot for reason,
- 37:00Speaker 2: and a good reason.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Really, did you get a Maserati with your signing bonus?
- 37:07Speaker 3: No, I was.
- 37:09Speaker 2: I was already married when and I get married right
- 37:13Speaker 2: before UH training camp started my rookie year, and so
- 37:17Speaker 2: I responsibly purchased a a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Nice.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Nice.
- 37:25Speaker 2: But that was the first car I ever owned, man,
- 37:27Speaker 2: I mean I didn't have I didn't have two Nichols
- 37:29Speaker 2: in that regard, and it was I couldn't believe it.
- 37:32Speaker 3: It's like wow, but yeah, it was.
- 37:35Speaker 2: It wasn't what I guess you'd consider the family car
- 37:38Speaker 2: as such. But I didn't go crazy, but I you know,
- 37:42Speaker 2: I kind of wanted a little bit of Hey did
- 37:44Speaker 2: Monty Carlo? Yeah, cruise around Wakefield mask will be Hey
- 37:48Speaker 2: what up?
- 37:48Speaker 3: Boys? Yeah? Remember me? Yeah.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Much more with Lap to Gum, including our first round predictions.
- 37:56Speaker 1: But first, here's a quick reminder that the Bengals Booth

- 38:21Speaker 1: are going to get to our predictions in just a bit,
- 38:25Speaker 1: But first, do you have a few Day two or
- 38:28Speaker 1: Day three guys that you like?
- 38:32Speaker 2: Donovan Jackson out of Ohio State, Uh, I'd like I
- 38:37Speaker 2: like looking at uh at him a little bit as
- 38:41Speaker 2: as an offensive lineman. I'm not sure where Luke Candor
- 38:44Speaker 2: out of you see, you know all about him Dan
- 38:47Speaker 2: Elder High School went to Louisville. You know, I think
- 38:50Speaker 2: I think he's uh, he's a guy that, uh that
- 38:54Speaker 2: has some potential. Charles Grant out of William and mary
- 38:58Speaker 2: as A as an interior offensive lineman, I think, uh,
- 39:01Speaker 2: you know, has has some uh.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Some potential appeal.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Kate Ratlic, you know, I think I don't think he's
- 39:09Speaker 2: necessarily a first rounder, but you know, second or third
- 39:12Speaker 2: round I jump all over all over that.
- 39:16Speaker 3: I think Josh.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Simmons, I think uh uh seven eah, like you mentioned
- 39:21Speaker 2: out of Arizona. I think those guys will probably be gone.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Jared Wilson out of Georgia. He's a center, but could
- 39:28Speaker 2: he play guard? I mean, you know, you think maybe
- 39:31Speaker 2: maybe that would be the case. I know long teams
- 39:34Speaker 2: have grays abel as A as a first rounder, maybe
- 39:37Speaker 2: a late first rounder. I'm not sure. I'm not sure
- 39:41Speaker 2: he'd be there, you know, in the second round. I
- 39:43Speaker 2: think the Bengals would have to maybe you know, move
- 39:47Speaker 2: up to get him. But he might be there, you know,
- 39:50Speaker 2: in the late second round. And a guy like that,
- 39:55Speaker 2: potentially uh Jordan Phillips out of Maryland, big defensive lineman,
- 40:01Speaker 2: they might be able to even get him in the
- 40:03Speaker 2: fourth or fifth round. I think I think that guy
- 40:06Speaker 2: is one, that one that might hold some some merit
- 40:11Speaker 2: in that regard.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Dion Walker out of Kentucky, Big old beast.
- 40:17Speaker 2: I'm not sure he goes in the first round, but
- 40:20Speaker 2: would he be there in the second potentially? I mean,
- 40:22Speaker 2: the three and forty five pounds space eater man. He's
- 40:25Speaker 2: a he's a he's a powerful human being.
- 40:30Speaker 3: TYLERK. Williams out of Ohio State. Second round.
- 40:34Speaker 2: You know, maybe there's there's there's quite a few really
- 40:37Speaker 2: and then of course, I mean I'm just looking at
- 40:39Speaker 2: the at the defensive defensive line scenario here. Jack Sawyer
- 40:46Speaker 2: interesting candidate. People have him he's not a first rounder.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Other people, oh yeah, he's a definite first rounder. A
- 40:53Speaker 2: lot of people have in the second round. Would he
- 40:55Speaker 2: would he go as low as the second round as
- 40:57Speaker 2: the Bengals are. I'm not sure that that would be
- 40:59Speaker 2: the case, but you know, he's an interesting guy. Shamar
- 41:05Speaker 2: Stewart out of Texas A and m if he's there
- 41:08Speaker 2: in the in the in the second round.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Uh. Jehad Campbell out of out of Alabama. I like
- 41:15Speaker 3: that guy.
- 41:16Speaker 2: I think he's another I like the Campbell boys. I
- 41:18Speaker 2: think you know, he's another one that if he's there
- 41:20Speaker 2: in the second round, you'd have to you'd have to
- 41:22Speaker 2: jump on him. Jack Kaiser out of Notre Dame as
- 41:27Speaker 2: a as a linebacker. Al Golden knows all about that kid.
- 41:31Speaker 2: You know if he if he's there in that uh
- 41:33Speaker 2: in that portion of the draft, you uh do you
- 41:36Speaker 2: make the make the move there?
- 41:38Speaker 3: Uh?
- 41:39Speaker 2: Jaylen Walker out of Georgia, you know. I mean he's
- 41:44Speaker 2: got a lot of versatility. He can play off the
- 41:46Speaker 2: ball as well as rush the passer. He's physically athletically gifted.
- 41:51Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean the list is and then again
- 41:54Speaker 2: another Notre Dame uh potential at the at the corner position,
- 41:59Speaker 2: Benjamin Moore. I'm not sure that he's there in the
- 42:02Speaker 2: second round. I think Al Golden would definitely give us
- 42:05Speaker 2: some serious consideration. Then his running mate Xavier Watts at
- 42:09Speaker 2: safety on a Notre Dame. I mean, he's he's one
- 42:12Speaker 2: that would probably be there in those third fourth round
- 42:15Speaker 2: kind of guy potentially. So there's a good number. I mean,
- 42:20Speaker 2: like we talked about this, this is a keep draft,
- 42:22Speaker 2: and I think you know the fact that players of
- 42:26Speaker 2: that caliber would be there when we're when we're talking
- 42:29Speaker 2: about that, that possibility confirms that, all.
- 42:35Speaker 1: Right, you mentioned several of my favorite Day two or
- 42:38Speaker 1: Day three guys, I'll give you at least one other
- 42:40Speaker 1: name that I've got, and he is a guy from
- 42:43Speaker 1: our alma mater, running back Laquint Allen. I think would
- 42:46Speaker 1: be a great fit for what the Bengals do on
- 42:48Speaker 1: offense because he is a real dual threat. He ran
- 42:52Speaker 1: for more than a thousand yards. But he also set
- 42:54Speaker 1: the Syracuse record for catches by a running back last year.
- 42:57Speaker 1: He had sixty four catches out of the backfield. He's
- 43:00Speaker 1: only twenty years old. Because of this really deep pool
- 43:03Speaker 1: of running backs, I think he'll be there on Day three.
- 43:06Speaker 1: So if they go for a running back I like
- 43:08Speaker 1: laquin Allen, I'll mention a Day two edge rusher. I
- 43:12Speaker 1: think he'll be Day two Ashton Gilotti from Louisville. He
- 43:16Speaker 1: is a guy that our mutual friend Joe Goodberry really likes.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Tremendous athletic testing, good production at Louisville, and he seems
- 43:24Speaker 1: to be a little bit under the radars. So not
- 43:27Speaker 1: sure if he'll be there at pick number forty nine,
- 43:29Speaker 1: but maybe he is, and if so, I think he'd
- 43:32Speaker 1: be a good fit. I like a Day three pass
- 43:34Speaker 1: rusher Kyle Connard from South Carolina, the SEC Defensive Player
- 43:39Speaker 1: of the Year last year. He won the Bronco on
- 43:40Speaker 1: a Gerski Award. Probably a situational pass rusher projected to
- 43:46Speaker 1: go on Day three, but hey, the Bengals could use
- 43:48Speaker 1: a guy that fits that description. You mentioned a couple
- 43:52Speaker 1: of the Notre Dame defensive guys that I really like.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Xavier Watts, the safety would be tremendous if he's there
- 43:59Speaker 1: in Round two. Thirteen interceptions over the last two years,
- 44:03Speaker 1: so it would probably take pick number forty nine to
- 44:07Speaker 1: get him. Jake Kaiser another guy you mentioned. He played
- 44:10Speaker 1: in seventy games at Notre Dame, a captain last year.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Little bit undersized, a good, not great athlete, but Al
- 44:18Speaker 1: Golden would certainly know exactly what he can and cannot
- 44:20Speaker 1: do and would know how to use him. And then
- 44:24Speaker 1: I also want to get back to Luke Candra out
- 44:26Speaker 1: of UC and Elder High School. If they were to
- 44:30Speaker 1: double down on interior offensive lineman, he would be a
- 44:35Speaker 1: great candidate. His dream is to stay home and play
- 44:38Speaker 1: for the Bengals to be the next you know, Kevin
- 44:40Speaker 1: Huber High School, college and pro in Cincinnati. Two time
- 44:44Speaker 1: All American, two time All Big twelve, Great Pro Football
- 44:48Speaker 1: Focus grades, a captain, a leader. He's going to be
- 44:51Speaker 1: there on Day three. He might even be available after
- 44:56Speaker 1: the draft. I hope for his sake that's not the case.
- 44:59Speaker 1: But I would really love to see him wind up
- 45:01Speaker 1: in a Cincinnati Bengals uniform.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd love to see that as well.
- 45:07Speaker 2: You know a guy that Elder High School Louisville now
- 45:11Speaker 2: with the Cincinnati Bengals. I mean, that'd be a storybook
- 45:15Speaker 2: scenario to his career. I think Scott Peters, the offensive
- 45:19Speaker 2: line coach, could could take a guy like that and
- 45:23Speaker 2: really work with him. And and you know the fact
- 45:26Speaker 2: that the Bengals, we mentioned Al Golden on the defensive
- 45:30Speaker 2: side of the football, and there are other multiple defensive
- 45:34Speaker 2: coaches that are new to the staff on his side
- 45:38Speaker 2: of things, and Al Golden he knows what he's looking
- 45:42Speaker 2: at in terms of these players. And the thing about
- 45:45Speaker 2: Al when you think about it, is, Shoot, he was
- 45:48Speaker 2: at the collegiate level. I mean, he coached Notre Dame
- 45:51Speaker 2: all the way to the National championship. So he looked
- 45:55Speaker 2: at just reams and rings of tape of players as
- 45:59Speaker 2: he was prepping uh for the Notre Dame fighting Iris's schedule,
- 46:03Speaker 2: and they play a very good schedule and again they
- 46:05Speaker 2: go all the way to the National championship game.
- 46:07Speaker 3: So he what an asset.
- 46:09Speaker 2: He is in the draft room right now talking to
- 46:12Speaker 2: the organization and the scouts and everybody else about his opinion.
- 46:16Speaker 2: And I know Duke Tobin uh wants in Mike Brown,
- 46:20Speaker 2: it starts with him. Wants everybody in the organization to
- 46:23Speaker 2: have a voice and have an opinion. And Al Golden
- 46:26Speaker 2: is going to have a very strong voice and a
- 46:28Speaker 2: lot of opinions on not only the Notre Dame players
- 46:30Speaker 2: that we talk about, that the defensive players that he coached,
- 46:34Speaker 2: that he knows intimately as in terms of football players
- 46:38Speaker 2: and human beings. That's that's invaluable information. And guys that man,
- 46:43Speaker 2: I'll tell you about when we were game planning against
- 46:45Speaker 2: this dude.
- 46:47Speaker 3: What a beast.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I mean this guy, shoot, I think he grated one
- 46:50Speaker 2: hundred percent pass protection watching him and tape all year long,
- 46:53Speaker 2: I mean this this guy is an animal.
- 46:54Speaker 3: Nobody beats this kid.
- 46:56Speaker 2: And this running back, Oh my gosh, man, we having
- 47:00Speaker 2: round two or three guys and need jucas.
- 47:01Speaker 3: And off he goes and.
- 47:03Speaker 2: I mean those those kind of personal experiences, I think
- 47:06Speaker 2: are are big. So I think uh, I think Al
- 47:09Speaker 2: Golden and uh and guys, you know, they came from
- 47:12Speaker 2: other organizations, you know, like the the other coaches, other
- 47:16Speaker 2: organizations in the National Football League. When you get that
- 47:19Speaker 2: kind of experience in your game planning against other teams,
- 47:23Speaker 2: and then like the normand Patriots, New Orleans Faints where
- 47:25Speaker 2: these coaches come from. And in the division teams that
- 47:29Speaker 2: that these teams play, uh, the the in the a
- 47:33Speaker 2: C and the NFC respectively, in their in their divisions,
- 47:36Speaker 2: and and every team in the NFL crosses over and
- 47:38Speaker 2: plays you know, everybody every four years, you know. I mean,
- 47:41Speaker 2: so there's a lot of uh, there's a lot of
- 47:44Speaker 2: new new voices and new opinions in that draft room
- 47:49Speaker 2: as they're getting ready for the draft. And I think
- 47:51Speaker 2: that's good. I think I think it's gonna be Uh.
- 47:56Speaker 2: They're they're going to be armed, well armed, and prepare
- 48:00Speaker 2: for every every conceivable opportunity that might crop up in
- 48:04Speaker 2: the draft and in free agency as well. You know,
- 48:07Speaker 2: you're talking about guys unrestricted free agents. Now, I'm not
- 48:11Speaker 2: sure they're going to be spending a whole lot more
- 48:13Speaker 2: money on unrestricted free agency. It will be more the
- 48:15Speaker 2: secondary market probably after the draft. Like we talked about, uh,
- 48:19Speaker 2: there there may be another another push. But you know, men,
- 48:23Speaker 2: you've you've prepped for all these guys. We talked about
- 48:28Speaker 2: al at the collegiate level, at the professional level. All
- 48:30Speaker 2: these guys have done the same thing, broken the takedown
- 48:33Speaker 2: and talked about you know, these opponents and uh and
- 48:37Speaker 2: how good they are and what we considered to be
- 48:40Speaker 2: their strengths and weaknesses from an organizational standpoint when we
- 48:43Speaker 2: were playing against them and taking that that information is
- 48:47Speaker 2: valuable and bring it to Cincinnati. It might be the same,
- 48:50Speaker 2: but there might be some new input that's extremely valuable.
- 48:54Speaker 2: So I think that the new coaching staff is going
- 48:59Speaker 2: to be very very significant in terms of what the
- 49:02Speaker 2: Bengals decide to do with respect to a round by
- 49:06Speaker 2: round basis in the draft. And I'm sure they've already
- 49:09Speaker 2: had him put in unrestricted free agency as well.
- 49:12Speaker 1: We have just about arrived at prediction time. But before
- 49:16Speaker 1: we get to putting you on the spot and putting
- 49:19Speaker 1: myself on the spot, who do you have in the
- 49:22Speaker 1: mix your final candidates to be the seventeenth overall pick.
- 49:28Speaker 2: Well, you know, there's there's all all kinds of all
- 49:32Speaker 2: kinds of candidates out there. I will say that, Uh,
- 49:37Speaker 2: you know, mel kiper I looked at I looked at
- 49:41Speaker 2: his his top you know, I guess twenty just recently
- 49:46Speaker 2: came out and it's a lot different, you know than
- 49:49Speaker 2: a lot of other other people's top twenty. But there
- 49:53Speaker 2: there are there's a multiple list of candidates. So honestly,
- 49:57Speaker 2: I think, uh, you know, Will cam is probably my
- 50:02Speaker 2: my number one guy. I think if I had to,
- 50:05Speaker 2: if I had to make a pick, uh, and you know,
- 50:10Speaker 2: it's just you know, you're gonna be locked in a
- 50:11Speaker 2: room you can't make you can't be unlocked out of
- 50:15Speaker 2: that room until you decide who you're who you're taking.
- 50:20Speaker 2: You know, at seventeen, I think Will Campbell gives gives
- 50:23Speaker 2: a tremendous amount of tremendous amount of value there, So
- 50:27Speaker 2: it I probably you know, lean toward that, But I mean,
- 50:31Speaker 2: there'd be so many guys potentially there. If Jaylon Walker
- 50:35Speaker 2: is there, Uh, you know, this guy can play outside linebacker,
- 50:40Speaker 2: inside linebacker, slot corner, you know, Mike Green out of
- 50:46Speaker 2: out of Marshall, if he if he's there, you have
- 50:48Speaker 2: to you have to consider, you know, a guy like that,
- 50:53Speaker 2: and I mean, uh a Buka at Buka out of
- 50:59Speaker 2: a house state at why receiver, I mean he falls
- 51:01Speaker 2: into that that kind of that kind of category. Will
- 51:04Speaker 2: Johnson potentially cornerback out of Michigan. I mean, there are
- 51:07Speaker 2: there are so many guys that that you look at
- 51:10Speaker 2: Jihad Campbell, the other Campbell, I mean looking at him,
- 51:13Speaker 2: linebacker out of Alabama, like you know, like that guy
- 51:16Speaker 2: potentially Gray's Abel out of uh North Dakota State, a
- 51:22Speaker 2: smaller school.
- 51:23Speaker 3: But man, he dominated. He dominated at North Dakota State.
- 51:27Speaker 2: I mean, he's He's a guy that could be right
- 51:30Speaker 2: there in the middle of the first round for the
- 51:32Speaker 2: Cincinnati Bengals take would that be a little rich?
- 51:36Speaker 3: You know, I don't know.
- 51:36Speaker 2: He's unbelievable pass protector. I think is he the one
- 51:40Speaker 2: man that might have been a wide receiver or a
- 51:42Speaker 2: running back before he converted.
- 51:45Speaker 3: Yeah, he converted.
- 51:46Speaker 2: To uh uh in the office of I know, I
- 51:50Speaker 2: know he's very athletic and but and he's he's a
- 51:53Speaker 2: little bit undersized. Uh, he's really good pass protector. Thh man,
- 51:58Speaker 2: He's got movement skills. He's very athletic. My concern I
- 52:01Speaker 2: guess on him would be, you know, handling these big, huge,
- 52:06Speaker 2: two gaping defensive tackles. That's not necessarily you know, his
- 52:11Speaker 2: big strength is is moving moving guys like that Derek Harmon,
- 52:15Speaker 2: a defensive tackle lot of Oregon. There's medical concerns I
- 52:18Speaker 2: guess with him now, but he's a heck of an
- 52:21Speaker 2: interior pass rush guy. Uh Matt Gold and another receiver
- 52:25Speaker 2: out of Texas. I mean, this guy runs a four
- 52:27Speaker 2: two nine. If he slides all the way down to there,
- 52:31Speaker 2: you know it's is he Is he worth looking at?
- 52:34Speaker 2: And you know, hell yeah. Amaron Hampton the running back
- 52:37Speaker 2: that I that I like. I mean, there's I could go.
- 52:40Speaker 2: I could go on and on. You know, there's gonna
- 52:42Speaker 2: be a quarterback obviously in that air, but not not
- 52:46Speaker 2: interested in any of that noise. And that's for sure.
- 52:49Speaker 2: But it's it's gonna be it's gonna be interesting. There's
- 52:53Speaker 2: there's a a good number of guys. But I think
- 52:57Speaker 2: if I had to, if I had to pick, because
- 52:59Speaker 2: I I think Will Campbell not only from a you know,
- 53:05Speaker 2: a football player standpoint, I think he played tackle or
- 53:09Speaker 2: I think he could do either and do either he's
- 53:11Speaker 2: gets drafted. You know, you've got a pair of book ends,
- 53:13Speaker 2: Orlando Brown and our big boy men's like you talk
- 53:15Speaker 2: about Dan who has got what that's just the bookends
- 53:20Speaker 2: are huge, humongous. I mean big ath what the guys
- 53:24Speaker 2: that tackle position? So do you draft another tackle? Well, yeah,
- 53:29Speaker 2: well he play right away. Maybe kick him inside the guard.
- 53:33Speaker 2: I mean I think he'd be I think he'd make
- 53:35Speaker 2: that transition very easily because he's got tremendous football IQ.
- 53:39Speaker 2: You know, he's got leadership qualities. They rave about him
- 53:42Speaker 2: as a person, and that's what the uh, that's what
- 53:46Speaker 2: Zach Taylor has done in the Bengals organization has done.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Has has made the culture that they've you know developed
- 53:53Speaker 2: here in Cincinnati, I think is second to none. And
- 53:56Speaker 2: it's become a destination.
- 53:58Speaker 3: Uh.
- 53:59Speaker 2: Every that the Bengal was probably interviewed in terms of
- 54:03Speaker 2: unrestricted free agency and the draft, would you have answers
- 54:07Speaker 2: in coming to Cincinnati?
- 54:08Speaker 3: Son? Hell, yeah, man, you got Joe Burrow, you got this,
- 54:11Speaker 3: you got that.
- 54:12Speaker 2: I mean, the the Cincinnati Bengals have developed at pretty
- 54:17Speaker 2: good roster, good good culture. It's a destination, man, and
- 54:22Speaker 2: there's nothing better when your organization has become a destination
- 54:26Speaker 2: and you're living in high cotton.
- 54:29Speaker 1: I have seven guys in the mix for me as
- 54:33Speaker 1: the seventeenth overall pick two defensive tackles. You mentioned Derek
- 54:38Speaker 1: Harmon from Oregon, He's one. Walter Nolan from Ole Miss
- 54:42Speaker 1: is the other. I've got Mike Green from Marshall is
- 54:45Speaker 1: my one edge in my final seven guys. I've got
- 54:49Speaker 1: two safeties, Malachi Starks and Nick Evan Wory.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:54Speaker 1: And I've got two offensive linemen, Tyler Booker and Kelvin Banks.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Harmon is six' five athletic interior pass, rusher number one
- 55:05Speaker 1: by far according TO pff for interior pressures last year
- 55:10Speaker 1: in college. Football The bengals could obviously use. That nolan
- 55:14Speaker 1: is six,' four tremendous quickness of very disruptive interior linement
- 55:18Speaker 1: in the running and. Passing game there are some character
- 55:22Speaker 1: concerns there That the bengals would have to be. Okay
- 55:24Speaker 1: with green is my favorite among the. Edge guys, he's twitchy.
- 55:29Speaker 1: He's violent he was number one in the country in
- 55:32Speaker 1: sacks last year. With seventeen does have assault charges in,
- 55:36Speaker 1: his past but his Coaches at virginia And then marshall rave.
- 55:39Speaker 1: ABOUT him i think he Looks Like trey hendrickson two
- 55:43Speaker 1: point zero to ME when i watch his Footage From Marshall,
- 55:48Speaker 1: malachi starks the safety Out of georgia is about as
- 55:52Speaker 1: close as sure thing as you. Can get, to me
- 55:55Speaker 1: three year starter quarterback of Those great, georgia defenses never missed.
- 55:59Speaker 1: A game. Team leader the last Time the bengals were
- 56:02Speaker 1: really good, on defense They Had. Jesse bates this guy
- 56:05Speaker 1: has a Lot Of jesse bates, to him. To me
- 56:08Speaker 1: and then There's Nick, emon warri arguably the best athlete
- 56:12Speaker 1: in the draft on a defense that lacks big. Play
- 56:14Speaker 1: guys he could Be it pick six's fumbles forced from.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Jarring hits he's like a More Athletic kyle hamilton. Creating
- 56:24Speaker 1: havoc and then you have the, Two Guards tyler Booker And,
- 56:27Speaker 1: kelvin banks who would be a. CONVERTED tackle i Interviewed
- 56:31Speaker 1: former Alabama Quarterback tyler, watts recently who's the analyst on the.
- 56:34Speaker 1: Radio broadcasts he put it, this way every quarterback in
- 56:38Speaker 1: the world would Want Five tyler bookers in front. Of them,
- 56:42Speaker 1: physically imposing elite pass protector with, a big magnetic Personality
- 56:49Speaker 1: Like Orlando. Brown Junior, like orlando not necessarily a, great
- 56:53Speaker 1: athlete that's the knock, on HIM but i do think
- 56:56Speaker 1: he's going to be successful IN. The nfl And Then
- 56:58Speaker 1: kelvin banks left Tackle, at texas so there's always a
- 57:02Speaker 1: bit of a gamble and you move him to guard IN.
- 57:03Speaker 1: The nfl but he's a much better Athlete, than BOOKER
- 57:07Speaker 1: and i think he could eventually become your starting left
- 57:09Speaker 1: Tackle After Orlando, Brown junior so some potential extra. Value
- 57:13Speaker 1: there so those are my Seven guys i've identified as
- 57:18Speaker 1: The ones i'm really focusing on at pick.
- 57:20Speaker 2: Number seventeen, You Know walter nolan you talk About the
- 57:27Speaker 2: green led the country in sacks. With Seventeen walter nolan
- 57:31Speaker 2: led the nation in twelve tackles, for loss that LED.
- 57:35Speaker 2: The fbs so he's one of those guys that is,
- 57:37Speaker 2: a disruptor, you know hit a. Gap penetrate, so yeah
- 57:42Speaker 2: it's gonna it's gonna. BE interesting, I Mean, al golden
- 57:45Speaker 2: do these guys fit WHAT who i? Should say who
- 57:50Speaker 2: fits best to what he wants to do or he
- 57:54Speaker 2: has so much in his in his repertoire that he
- 57:57Speaker 2: Can say i'm going to take this guy and just
- 58:00Speaker 2: MODIFY what i do to fit this. Guy's STRENGTHS and
- 58:03Speaker 2: i think that's the definition of a Great. COACHING uh
- 58:06Speaker 2: i think that That's What paul, brown again uh and
- 58:09Speaker 2: his coaching staff they were so, good at. IS adapting
- 58:12Speaker 2: i mean they had they had a uh a structure
- 58:16Speaker 2: in mind what they wanted to. Do schematically BUT if
- 58:19Speaker 2: i might Read From penn state, with that, you know
- 58:22Speaker 2: unbelievable quickness and burst and first step quickness and all
- 58:26Speaker 2: of that, is available take them and if you, have to,
- 58:30Speaker 2: you know modify and adjust a, little bit uh to
- 58:33Speaker 2: basically align align yourself with this.
- 58:36Speaker 3: Skill set so.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Be it, you know when you when you have a
- 58:40Speaker 2: when you have a guy that could be that type
- 58:41Speaker 2: of a, disruptive force, you know you you. Proceed accordingly,
- 58:46Speaker 2: so yeah it's it's going to, be interesting uh interesting
- 58:50Speaker 2: to see exactly what uh, you know what What the
- 58:54Speaker 2: bengals decide, to do how they decide to. Do it
- 58:57Speaker 2: they're all as. WE'VE shown i think there are a
- 59:02Speaker 2: lot of very very good football players. Out there and
- 59:06Speaker 2: it's not just a position. OR two i think it's
- 59:10Speaker 2: a lot. Of positions in, this draft there is position
- 59:14Speaker 2: death and, You know THAT'S why i think That. THE
- 59:17Speaker 2: bengals i think they're going to make a lot of
- 59:19Speaker 2: hay in, the, second, third fourth.
- 59:21Speaker 3: FIFTH round i.
- 59:22Speaker 2: Really do even if they stayed, the inn they stayed
- 59:25Speaker 2: right where they are with, THEIR picks i think they're
- 59:27Speaker 2: gonna make a lot. Of hay and then You Mentioned.
- 59:29Speaker 2: TREY henderson i guess that that's obviously. Big priority get
- 59:35Speaker 2: that bad, boy done get. HIM signed, i mean, they
- 59:38Speaker 2: said go out and see what kind of the kind
- 59:40Speaker 2: of trade market there. Would be there's multiple teams out
- 59:43Speaker 2: there that would Trade For. Trey henderson but they're not
- 59:46Speaker 2: going to pay thirty million dollars a year to compensate
- 59:49Speaker 2: them and the first round pick to have the the
- 59:53Speaker 2: right to compensate them another thirdy you know that. Thirty
- 59:56Speaker 2: million so you Know, the bengals you know they're not
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: going to take a third, round pick or, you know
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: even a second, round pick unless it's, real high whatever
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: the case. May be both both it takes two. To
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: tango both have to be satisfied with the with the.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: TRADE arrangement i don't think there's going to be A
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: trade i think there's a trade market, out there there's,
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: trade value there's a lot of teams see the Value In,
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: tredy henderson but so Do, the bengals And the bengals
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: have them, under contract and they in order to keep,
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Them happy i'd give them.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: Fifteen million i'd give them a. Signing bonus.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Fifteen million he's at fifteen, point eight sixteen, point two
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: somewhere in. That range get them up over. Thirty Million,
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: say trey You're a. Bengal man we. Love you, you
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: know we. Understand You, les cincinnati you love, your teammates
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: you love, it here we love.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: You too, thirty.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Million and then the next year bonus money, goes down the.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: Salaries arrives keep them around that thirty million dollars thirty
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: to thirty low thirties compensation for. Multiple years keep one
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: of the best, heads rushers if not, the best In
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: The national football Here. IN cincinnati, i mean you can't
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: let seventeen sacks, walk Because Like paul, brown said, you
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: know they didn't, draft them but they got him in
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: the trade and they've been instrumental in. His development he'll
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: he'll verbalize that retain this.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Dude man.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Retain them and that's What the bengals have done a
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: good job of with what they did in resigning some
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: of these. Younger players dan they, identified them they, drafted
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: them they developed them and.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: Retained Them, Joe Burrow JAMAR. Chase. T higgins YOU know
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: gasicki a.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: Big contract, you know he came from, another team but
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: they they developed him and. Retain him SAYING. With, Pj,
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: HILL so i mean retaining people is the biggest is the.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: BIGGEST thing, i mean don't let a player go unless
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: his playing abilities. Have diminished you know that then players
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: cut themselves and that in. That scenario but don't don't
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: don't let a player go because you've, been there responsible
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: and how you've handled your, salary cap, you know and
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: you have so much money in the last year or
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: two of the contract that it's like it's inconceivable that
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: you're able to fulfill.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: The obligation and the player.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: KNOWS too, i mean there are players out there now
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: that one of the reasons they're, out there but one
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: is age and the OTHER is i mean they are sorry.
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: Cap Casualties the bengals aren't. About That the bengals are
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: all About What paul brown used to reference as a.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Square deal if we, sign you we expect to. Fulfill
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: it we expect you to fulfill your endo the bargain,
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: as well and that's a. Square DEAL and I think
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: bengal has done a pretty good job. OF that, i
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: mean you got teams out there, sixty million sixty, six million,
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: you know in, cap Jail the bengals, six million one
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: of the least amounts In The National. Football league so
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: they've done a pretty Good Job katie Blackburn and troy,
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: And Everybody Paul, brown junior, you know managing the salary
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: cap and not having. Ego contracts, irresponsible contracts you know
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: that get a lot of publicity when they're, initially signed
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: but in the end you. Get problems and those problems don't.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: Go away there's a hangover and. The hangover, you know when,
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: you're drinking you get. A hangover eventually it. Goes away
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: when you're irresponsible to these, ego contracts the hangover.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: Gets, worse man it doesn't. Go away it's a nightmare.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: All right time FOR the espn chime and My Best
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: roger goodell imitation to get this officially on.
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: The record.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: With the seventeenth pick in the twenty TWENTY Five, nfl
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Draft The cincinnati, Bengals select i'm.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: Gonna, you know you make a great argument for a
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: lot of a lot, of Players but I'm Still i'm
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: i'm gonna go with. MY man, I mean i know
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: it's the former offense of lineman, in Me and i'll fully,
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: admit It but i've grown to Love Will. Campbell Man
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: but i'd be happy all the players that we threw. Out,
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: there shoot every single one of them can help this.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Football TEAM but i would like to see the big Boy. From, Elision,
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: HONESTLY dan i don't think he's going to. BE there
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: I think i think he'll. Be GONE but i think
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: that's maybe one of the reasons that if he for
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: some reason were to, be THERE would i would jump
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: up and you'd have to put a harness on me
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: to bring me back to. MY seat i jump up
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: and run to that table to uh to make. That selection?
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: All right my Pick Is. Derek harmon and this, is truly,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: for me the best player, available scenario because they've already
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: devoted free agency dollars in draft capital on. Defensive tackles
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: they RE Signed, bj hill THEY. Signed, tj slayton They
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: drafted Jenkins and jackson. Last year do you want all
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: of those guys to play, this year but none of
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: them is a high level. Pass Rusher derek harmon gives
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: you the best hope of Having Your chris Jones Or,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: cam hayward who really creates havoc in the middle of the.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: Defensive line how much better would this defense be with
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: a guy shrinking, the pocket, getting sacks, getting pressures batting.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: Down passes he's, Six' five he's, got long. Arms good
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: athleticism if you want To Copy the Super, bowl champion
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: eagles then build a. Dominant defensive line harmon would be a.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Great first step he's my. GUY at seventeen i really
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Wanted To. TAKE malacky Starks I think al golden would
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: love having that quarterback in the back. Of his secondary
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: and even though you know he didn't run a great time,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: at the combine he ran a four. Five point forty
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: he was really good in all of the other football
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: drills in in terms, OF his Athleticism I think melachi
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: starks is going, To Be great but i'm Settling In
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: on derek harmon is my pick, at Number seventeen.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: And i'd be. Thrilled with that that would not.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: BOTHER me, WHATSOEVER i mean i do think that He's
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: like the philadelphia eagleshould talk about they were too deep
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: across the board in.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: Terms of waves.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: Of defensive linemen they throw in there and keep them
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: fresh and just rush the hell out. Of the Quarterback
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: and And derek harmon is is the best interior pass
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: rusher in the draft, in my opinion because he's got
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: the length like, you talk about plus he's he's, got
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: a big big. TOOLBOX of, moves i mean he's not
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: just a one trick pony In terms of i'm gonna. Bull,
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: rush it okay, that's this week and then, The next
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: week i'm going to just speed rush you on the
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: edge of your shoulder.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: As a guard and.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: THE three, technique i mean he's he's got a myriad
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: of things that he can he can go TO and
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: AND i think i, think he, would he would he'd
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: be a heck. Of a, pick and again like, we talked,
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: ABOUT you KNOW i guess i can with four tongue
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: a Little bit, because, i'm saying well they committed so
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: many dollars offensively an, unrestricted free agency let's take care.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: Of the DEFENSE what am i doing as a, Former
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: offensive lineman i've taken an interior offensive lineman BECAUSE that's
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: where i.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: WOULD put him i, would draft him put him In
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: a guard and my.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Reasoning number nine you know he uh he got hit
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: a lot last year. And he's courageous you'll hold the
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: football as long as any Quarterback In The national football
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: league in order to uh make sure that, that you know.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Everything plays out he he is the master at finding
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: something late uh And uh and i'm sure he drives.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: Defensive backs crazy and then you obviously he's got the
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: athleticism to climb the pocket and get out of the
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: pocket and uh roll to his right and left like.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: We talked, about, but, uh IF if if I Do
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: take will campbell the final piece to solidify that that
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: offense because like like we, were talking about the guard.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: POSITION needs help i do think that that's probably the
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: biggest need on. The football, team and, unfortunately you know,
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: For the defense i'm gonna take that guy to, fill
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: that Need and then i've probably used every other pick.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: On the defense i'm gonna use a lot of the picks.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: On the defense there's no. Question about, THAT but. HONESTLY i.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Would i Would.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: There's and i'm Not Saying it's will campbell, or A bust,
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: but i'm saying at some, point in time you know
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: that that is the area that that needs. To be
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: Fulfilled if the bengals, Have You, Know Will, campbell malachi, starks,
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: You Know uh derek harmon and a couple of other
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: guys in that, Grouping of five i'd be good with any.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: Of Those guys and i'm sure they. WOULD Be too
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: U and, Like i said I'm. Not sure Will If
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: if will campbell would, Would be there i'd be. Right
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: all back i'd like to light the cigar man THAT
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: right after.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: I picked him we agree that number one thing they've
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: got to come away with as. As Starting guard but
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: i've been overdosing on mock draft SIMULATORS and what i
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: found lap IS that when i went defense in round
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: one and a guard, IN round two i still. Had
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: GREAT options when i took a guard in round one
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: and then looked for a defense difference maker in, THE
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: second round i wasn't quite as happy. With The outcome
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: so I'm going with harmon, In round one starks, if
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: he's gone and THEN hoping That I, Get Donovan jackson
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Jonas avoy And Aya or tate ratledge as my guard.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: In, round Two.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Yeah and i'd be very happy with. THAT as well
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: i do think that the two rookie interior defensive linemen
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: that they took in the second and third, ROUND last
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: Year i think. Jenkins being healthy, i'm telling you trying
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: to rush the pastor with a big old cast on your.
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: HAND is, impossible i mean your hand used to just
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: done using, the one hand and they're using. Two against
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: you it's it's not. A FAIR fight SO i Think, i,
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: think jenkins uh he didn't really, show his. ARSENAL you
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: know i think he's a significant. Pass rusher inside but,
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: with that said you can never have. Enough of them
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: you want as many as you. Can Possibly get McKinley
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: jackson more of, a run, stuffer you know to gapper,
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: kind of guy and you can never have enough. Of
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: those either so we we've talked for, a while here
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: but coming all, the way, around circling back what are?
