Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: There are only three teams left undefeated in college football: the Miami Hurricanes, the Utah Utes, and the UCLA Bruins.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: This is the Mike Blitz Podcast Hunt or Go For It game.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Who is gonna be undefeated at the end of the season?
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Maybe nobody.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Let's find out right now.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Are you gonna punt or go for it?
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Right here on the Mike Blitz Podcast.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my hosts over there, Mark Franzen and Darren Steadman.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: I guess I should really say my coaches with the headsets.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: How are you guys ready?
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: You guys ready for some punting or some go-for-iting tonight?
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Feeling risky.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Feeling risky.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I don't want to disrespect, I don't want to disres disrespect Tarlington State or Stephen F.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Austin, but they are also undefeated.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: That's a good point.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: That's a good point.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: I guess we were only talking about the G4 ones, but the P4 ones.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: But yes, that's true.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: There are a couple other squads out there still having a good day.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: So with that said, I'm gonna jump right in.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: You guys know the drill is punt or go for it.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: I am the eager quarterback.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: I have a hot take that I'm bringing to my head coaches, Mark and Darren.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: They're the ones with the headset on.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: They are the ones who have to make the big decisions to punt or to go for it.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: To punt is to hear my take and say, nope, don't like it.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: I disagree.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: That's no good.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I'm out.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I'm punting on that.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: To go for it is I love it.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Yes, you're right.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: And then some that is signing off on the take.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: It is your job.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: You have the headset.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: You, the listener, I'm asking you, are you going to punt or are you going to go for it?
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: If you decide you want to punt or go for it, get in the comments.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Tell us, let us know what you like about that, what you don't.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Would love to hear from you guys on all things punt or go for it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Are you guys gentlemen ready?
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Roll.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Ready, roll.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Number one.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Not one, not two, but three teams with three losses will make the playoffs.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you why.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: First off, I think I think the first three loss teams almost a given.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: There's been so much chaos.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: This is a 2007-type season already.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: You're seeing the losses stack up for pretty much everybody.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: The folks that are left are getting knocked down one after the other.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: So there's at least one coming.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: The teams that really kind of fit that profile are like kind of the Texas, Georgia, Ole Miss, and LSU.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Because all four of those teams have a quality P4 opponent in their schedule.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Texas being the best one, obviously, they have the Ohio State win, LSU over Clemson, Ole Miss over Louisville, and Georgia over, can't remember.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: But anyway, so a couple teams that kind of fit that criteria.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Also, this has been a weird year.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: So I think those guys are all have a chance of doing it.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Would anybody be shocked if a three-loss SMU knocked off Miami?
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: What about a three-loss Oklahoma State knocking off Utah in the finals?
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: I could easily see an ACC or uh uh Big 12 school that's not gonna get in automatic birth, but they'll get in because they won just to defend of winning their product.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: As we know, the rules are if you win one of your power four conference, the highest power four conference champions, but this year we're not gonna have the crazy outlier of the G6, the the boys of the world are too far below the potential ACC and Big 12 championships.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: My point, there's gonna be a third team, I think, with it with a conference championship upset.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: So, my question for you punt or go for it, three teams with three losses or more are gonna make the playoffs.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: I gotta punt.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: I gotta punt till next one.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: I gotta punt.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: I don't I see the scenarios that you're laying out, and I don't think they're all gonna happen like that.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: I do see Miami rolling into the playoffs by winning the conference.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: I do see Utah or BYU, whoever wins that game ends up having one or two losses on the season, rolling into the playoffs with only a one or two loss.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: So you gotta look at the SEC rankings here and ask yourself how many teams are gonna get in.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: Right now we've got two one loss teams, but that's it.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: And everybody else has two and three losses.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: And so you're right.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: So if so it's very likely that the five SEC teams that make the playoffs, I would say maybe even six teams, uh, will three of them have three losses?
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: I'm still gonna punt.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: We got a lot of opportunity for loss teams to make this playoff.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: You you got me on a on a teeter-totter here, though, quarterback.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: You crazy gunslinger, you, but I'm gonna punt.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: Friends, if I said two, three lost teams, would you sign off?
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: I think I would.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: I think I would.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: You picked a good number.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Coach Mark?
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I it'll definitely be one.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I guarantee there'll be at least one team.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I can't see three.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Three's a stretch.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: That's yeah.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: I think right now that's like a plus 400 bet.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: And I'm not gonna take it.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: No, I'm gonna punt on that one.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Reasonable.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Reasonable.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm gonna go with the second one.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: You can jump right in.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: It's kind of related to this one.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Not a single undefeated teams is going to make it to the playoff.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Let me put it this way: everybody who's in the playoff will have at least one loss.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: There are three left.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: Utah, if you want to pull, if you want to take the time to pull up their schedules, Utah, UCLA, Miami.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Everyone is gonna lose.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Miami's the one the most likely.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: If they get past Notre Dame, it's pretty easy, easy, easy skiing, easy slate.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: But again, I'm banking on flooding.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Couldn't think of that word.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: I am banking on a classic crystal ball, crystal balling in one of these, just him slipping one up.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, Utah and UCLA both have for by my count, two and a half, three very losable games left on their schedule.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: We just talked about the Utah playing Cincinnati and they have the holy war coming up.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: The UCLA is on their fourth string quarterback, Diffen Durfer and the first Yamayava are out.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: They think they're on Madden now.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: You can you can't convince me that a UCLA team is gonna blow through Minnesota.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: I think they're playing Wisconsin.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: They go to Minnesota.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Well, they have Nevada this weekend, but then they go to Minnesota, then they host Illinois, they go to Michigan.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Absolutely tricky.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: And then they close out at home against USC.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: I'll give them Illinois.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: I think the other three are all losable.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: I think going to Minnesota is definitely losable.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Going to Michigan playing that defense, but if you give, I still think Kyle Whittingham's a good coach, if they can figure out a little bit on offense, that might be all it takes to beat UCLA.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: And USC in a rivalry, the the battle of Los Angeles, losable.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: So my point is go ahead.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Even if UCLA wins out, wouldn't they have to go to the Big Ten championship game?
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Then they're going up against Ohio State or they're going up against Indiana.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: And then yeah, but fine.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I'm gonna make this take a little bit bolder.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Regular season.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: There will be nobody in the regular season who will make it to nobody who will make it to the regul make it to the regular season unscathed.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: No one's going 12 and oh.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm trying to tell you.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: That's a good way to say it.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Punt or go for it, nobody's going 12-0 this year.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: I like to go first on this one.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go for that because I totally agree that UCLA will probably lose one of those games, probably even the one at Michigan or USC.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: I don't see I'm drawing a blank on oh, Miami.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: I don't see if Miami beat Notre Dame, I think they'll have a letdown at Duke the next week and lose.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Like, lose that following game.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Miami hasn't they've looked good, but they've not been great in all their games this year.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: There are games they've limped into a victory that like Florida State, Wake Forest, games they they should have lost or could have lost on those games.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Definitely see them losing.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Utah after BYU, then they have Arizona, and Arizona's been stout.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: I think they beat TCU, I think they beat West Virginia, but that this Cincinnati BYU Arizona thing, I definitely can see Utah losing one of those.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: I'm actually gonna go for it.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think we have an undefeated team going to the playoffs, and I think that is wonderful.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: You're gonna give James Franklin a crack at the biggest win of his like I've seen Virginia Tech beat Miami before.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: But I've seen Virginia Tech beat Miami as well.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: That's also not gonna be Franklin.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Is if he has any tricks in his sleeve, it's gonna be that one.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be that game.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: Where is that game?
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: It's unfortunately it's in coral gables.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: Miami late in the season.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: This is not news to anybody, but late in the season, teams just get exposed.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: And so they have been given up a lot of points.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: They had to go to overtime against Florida State.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: Pittsburgh.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Pittsburgh is is kind of inept.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: Maybe I'm a little biased.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: But they they scored 23 points.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: They this is not a defense that holds a team to uh to field goals.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: No.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: And so they're getting exposed a little bit.
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: I think they're gonna drop one, which means I definitely think no one will remain undefeated.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: Utah's not gonna do it.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: They got a tough stretch, they got a very tough stretch, and they've been they've been doing the same thing.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: They've been s stumbling a little bit in the middle of their games recently.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: UCLA, no way.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Congratulations on on a really great up until October 31st season UTL UCLA.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: But it's not gonna stay that way.
- 9:33unknown: Yep.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: Going for it.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: We're all agree for it.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Going for it.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: We'll we'll convert that first down.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: I'm feeling good about that one.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: All right, let's get the fun ones.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: Next one.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Jeremiah Smith is bad quarterback proof.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: I don't think it matters.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Give it if you give Luke Fehey or Tavian Sinclair this much time with Ryan Day in the ones, they're gonna spam him, they're gonna throw him the ball.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't be surprised if half of the half of the pass attempts go to him.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: Jeremiah Smith is gonna go for over 150 yards against USC this weekend.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: I don't think it matters who his quarterback is.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: That's the line I'm saying.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: He is a bad quarterback, best receiver ever, maybe the GOAT receiver of all time, Heisman winning quarter receiver.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Jeremiah Smith will go over 150 yards against USC this week because he is bad quarterback proof.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Hunter, go for it.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: If you want to read, here's the high school scouting report on Luke Fehey, who will be starting for Ohio.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Of course I want to hear this.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: All right, Fehey is one of the most talented quarterbacks out west.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: His surgical form out of the pocket can pick a defense apart with his accuracy and timing.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: He shows off a quick release and throws one of the tighter balls in the region and processes the game extremely quick.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: In terms of his ability to get through the pr his progressions and reads, he's one of the more advanced signal callers in the country.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: He's an extremely smart player with a high football IQ who knows where to go with the ball and doesn't turn it over and will take his shots down the field.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude, I I I'm going for it, man.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: I I he's only six foot tall.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: He's not a big quarterback.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: He has a solid frame, strong lower body, but should have no problems holding up against hits that he'll have to take in college.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: And he will love throwing to Jeremiah Smith.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: I added that in myself.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: But yeah, going for it.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: Everything you said sounded great except for that one number that 150?
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: Yes, that you maybe wish you didn't say out loud.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: But if you said over a hundred, I was like, yeah, over a hundred.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: But then you kept going and said 50.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: I was like, wait a second, hold on a second.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Jeremiah Smith, Jeremiah Smith put up 93 yards against Maryland two weeks ago.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Was that because the game was out of hand?
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: Probably four four balls that that time.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they they didn't have to, but I think they're gonna have to throw that ball to him.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Fehey's gonna need a like which side of the field?
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: Like, I've got a half a second before I get sacked.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: Which side of the field was Jeremiah running down?
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, throw it over there.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: I think he will do that.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: And Jeremiah Smith will do what you're talking about.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: He'll simply catch it in triple coverage.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: Um, I agree he is quarterback, bad quarterback proof.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: That's a good term.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: Uh print the t-shirts.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't know if he's going over 150, but I love that you put that challenge in.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Can I add can I add one more nugget for before you make your decision?
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: He has gone over 150 in four of seven games.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: So seven through seven games, he has gone over 150 yards.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: He did it against ball state, Texas, Iowa, and Illinois.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: So against Iowa.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, against Iowa, Illinois, and Texas.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: He went for 164 against Texas.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Ball State, fine.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, ball state.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: He could have gone for 450 in the Ball Street game if he wanted to.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: But Texas, Illinois, and Iowa, they had plans to cover him and they didn't work out.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: So tell me why USC is gonna do it.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: No, I love I love it.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: I'm going for it.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: I'm going for it.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: Jeremiah Smith is historical, amazing wide receiver talent, and that is saying something because Malachi Tony is currently playing lights out out of his mind.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Um, he just happens to be playing at the wrong time in this century against the best wide receiver.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, just Jeremiah Smith's amazing.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's my putting go for it next year.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: The next three Heisman trophy winners are all gonna be receivers.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: Jeremiah Smith, Malachi Tony, Jesse Legree.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: Jesse Legree, come on.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: Those are Oregon State to the playoff.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: What are the can I get a Vegas can I get a Vegas odds on that?
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: One and a million, one dollar wins a million if I get hit if I hit three straight receiver Heisman's.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: All right, I think we're all in and on that.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, next one.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: This has been a hot topic here in the Mike Blitz.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: We love talking about coaches getting fired.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: We're so good at it.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: But the problem is the coaches in the SEC keep winning.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Punter go for it.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: No coach in the SEC gets fired in 2026.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Beamer is now the coach hot seat, 13.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: He's way up there.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: He was on number two or three a couple weeks ago.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: He has played himself way off it.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Venables, 15.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: There's nobody else even on it.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: You could tell me Sark is a wild card.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: If if Texas loses to LSU and whoever else they have left, AM and their four-lost team, I could see some big money booster coming in and maybe at the end of Sark's time in Texas, but that's it.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: No, you're looking around the conference, you're looking at a bunch of folks that are not on the hot seat, at least relatively speaking.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Punter go for it in 2026.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: No SEC team fires their coach.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Going for it.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: I think that's a great take.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: And I still hold that one of my preseason takes was like something something that eclipses last year's head coach firing number, like 13 coaches will be fired.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: We'll we'll see even more this year.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: I think that's still alive, just in this day and age, right?
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Just in this, just this age of spending money.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: And I also think you're right, the SEC guys are kind of immune right now.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: Um I forget the name of the Vanderbilt coach, but they're only one season away from a top 10 ranking last year.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: No, they like him.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: He's they like him, he's in for good reason.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: Like he's great.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: So he's alumni.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: You could say Ryan Silverfield, but like even he's been having a bad rap.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Even he's brand new, and every people in Arkansas know he had then didn't have a chance.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Venable's just got that extension.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Lane Kevin can do no wrong.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Summerall, hyple is turned them around, even though without his quarterback, he's got them playing well.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Will Stein, they love him there.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: I'm looking around at a conference, a lot of people really happy.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna say no firings.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: No, wild card, if Lincoln Riley gets canned, does Lincoln do they do the you the good folks in Southern Cal fly to Tuscaloosa, give Kalen to Borinock and say, hey, you want to get out of here and you want to go to where the land of throwing the ball?
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Do you want to go to the land of five-star receivers galore and you can just pass the ball until your heart's content?
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: I can see I can see them galore for something.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: That's what we're doing.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: That would be a five deep, right?
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think that wouldn't count.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: That wouldn't count.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: I'm you know what, honestly, I think the expectations in the SEC are high.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: And I think there are coaches and I'm the programs are expecting to win, and and going in with one, two, or three losses is unacceptable to some of these boosters.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of money being put into these players now, and the expectations are high.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: I do think somebody's going to get fired.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: I I'm not sure who, but I I do believe that somebody is gonna get canned in the SEC.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Just because we're in a world where expectations are high.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, somebody's somebody's getting the boot.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: It might even be Beamer, it might be Sark.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, somebody, somebody's gonna be unemployed, not by their own choice.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: I don't hate that take.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: I just can't see it right now.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: It's one of those things where it's like who's gonna who's gonna end the season on a three-game lose streak, and all of a sudden it's some some booster says, I've had enough.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Here's your money, and takes them out, and so that could be that.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: So, you know, it could happen.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the trouble there is gonna be Sark.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: I think he's your wild card.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's a wild card.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: They could they could lose four four out of five here coming up, yeah, and he could go.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: That could be it.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: That could be it.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: All right, last one.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: All right, this one's a little far-fetched.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: I might punt, I might punt on it myself.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Teams that get games canceled, like on the schedule, they get canceled the year of from bigger teams should get credit in polls or postseason seating.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna give you an example.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: JMU is gonna was gonna go gonna go was gonna go 13-0, probably gonna go 12 and 1.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: And the big knocks on them was their strength of schedule because the Sun Belt, for what it is, is just not a very strong schedule.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: That's scheduled.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: I'm not trying to bag on Virginia Tech.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: Yep, school, lots of big schools done this.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Indiana has done it to a bunch of smaller schools recently.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Virginia Tech had to pay them$800,000, but they were on the schedule as of a year ago.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: JMU had their P4 game.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: If JMU went 13-0 and didn't get into the playoffs, it would be because Boise State had the better record.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: I think JMU should be rewarded for that in some quantifiable measure that has to do with the polls, not the money.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: Obviously, they get that they've the cut they Virginia Tech breached the contract, so they paid them about the$800,000 to make them go away.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: I'm not talking about that.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: I'm saying it hamstrung their season potentially.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: If they were to go 13-0 and they were fighting for that G6 playoff spot with with JMU.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: My point.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: You can, I'm not exactly sure how it would all work.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure what what the mechanics would be and how quantifiable it would be and what the difference would be.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: But punt or go for it, teams that get games canceled on them within a year should be rewarded when we do the seeding and postseason stuff.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Punt or go for it.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: This is this is crazy business, but I'll but I'll sip your potion for just a second.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: See what it tastes like.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: See what it tastes like.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: So are you saying that a possible outcome would be like, okay, Virginia Tech rescheduled, and they're not gonna play JMU anymore.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: So JMU is gonna start the season one or no before they or like a half win or like a quarter win, or their strength of schedule gets like a three-point bump.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: There doesn't have to be like a they're not like I'm not saying a full game replace.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying give them credit for the win, but I'm saying something because that's the that's the thing they did the thing.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: They're scheduled a bit.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: You want to play in the big dogs, schedule the big dogs.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: They did it, and it's not their fault that they couldn't they couldn't get it.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: So like I feel like there should be some kind of mechanic there, maybe as some sort of a hedge that gives them some credit.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Now that does mean you that means arguably putting a non-deserving team over a quote unquote deserving team, but it's not their fault they're not deserving, right?
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Because they could have beaten Virginia Tech.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: They could have had a chance, they didn't have the opportunity.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: It's not their fault.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I see what you're yeah, you're on to something, but it's a half-baked idea, let me tell you how much loosely, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: Loosely, loosely, loosely.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: It'll be interesting to talk about this, of course, in December when the conference championships play out, and they're like, who is gonna be the team?
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: And then we look at four teams and like which one of those guys gets in, Boise State, but what about this and that?
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it'll be it'll be interesting to think about that.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Hard to see right now.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: New Mexico's getting a ton of love because they lost 14-7 to Oklahoma.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Like they had like they had their game.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: JMU had their version of that on the slate.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Boise had their version on the slate with Oregon.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: Like everybody did their thing they were supposed to do.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: It might be all moot because JMU lost the game and Boise is better.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Like it's all, but like that's not JMU's fault.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: If JMU was 13-0 and Boise, if JMU finished 13-0 and Boise finished 12-1, we all know Boise would get the nod and they would say directly, Boise played a harder schedule.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: It's not that's good context.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: So it's something there.
- 22:03unknown: Boise.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's gonna matter that yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's gonna matter this year.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: I really don't, but I could see a world where that could be a thing, especially in 24 game, 2014 playoff when they might be talking about one, potentially two G6 spots.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: I hope they're talking about two G6 spots.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: There's 24 teams, they're taking everybody.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: So let's take some G6 folks with us, right?
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Mark, what do you think?
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: You gonna go for this?
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: I I'm really, really trying to like to get it in.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Like I hear what you're saying, but I think it's even better to play it and lose than to get it canceled and talk about it in a hypothetical.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: Like, I what I was looking at was liberty, like they're right.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Now they have they have one loss, but if you look at them and they go throughout the best game, the best team they had was JMU, Ball State.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: They they didn't play a strong non-conference schedule.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: So regardless, if they go one loss, they're not even in the conversation for it, regardless of who they they may have played.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: I wanted it, I really wanted to go for it, but I can't.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: No.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: It's not gonna punt on that one.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: But I hear what you're saying.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: I I do think 24 teams will the non-conference schedules can be very, very important.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, take a sh take a chance.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Even if it, even if you're probably gonna get paid well for it, even if you lose, but take it, take a chance.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: You might pull off a crazy win and you might end up in the playoffs.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: Just ask the JMU Dukes how that works out.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: It's crazy things have happened.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: So anyway, just a little food for thought.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Shout out to all my team, all my G6 teams out there who scheduled a P4, who then got it canceled, who then got the payday, who didn't get the chance to lose by 40.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: I feel sorry for you, so I just want to give you a little love on tonight's podcast.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: That's all we got for punt or go for it this evening, I believe.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Gentlemen, anything else for the good of the order before we head on out of here?
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: Something for the good of the order.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: Yes, if you're not doing anything on Thursday night at 7 30, you may want to watch the FAU Owls take on the North Texas mean green.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Uh University of North Texas is favored by 14 points, but that's not what's important.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: The total for this game projected right now, 78 points.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: This is an 80-point projected.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the over.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Vegas can only put these numbers so high before they start sweating and like having convulsions.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: I I think they're gonna go over it.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: We've seen some 90s here recently.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: 77 points on Thursday night.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: So check them out.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: Look, Mark Marsh Madness season beyond the corner.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: If you want to watch a college basketball game on a football field, Thursday night's the time.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: You're gonna get one.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: It's gonna score it's gonna be 45 to 44.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a classic mid-major showdown, so it's gonna be great.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Love that.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: Love that little hoop score.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Mark, what do you got?
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: Anything?
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Man, I I I had to I you say that I had to go to Claude and just ask it real quick.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: What is the highest over-under in college football in the last 10 years?
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: And hopefully it moves a little bit faster here, but like seventy seventy-eight and a half.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: That's good.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: 77 and a half right now.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: 77 and 77 and a half.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: It opened at 69 and a half, and it's jumped eight points over a touchdown.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: It's wild.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: Man, I should have asked that respond quickly, but man.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I'll put it.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: I'll put it in the comments.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, let's go for sure.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: Take the over.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Take the over just out of principle.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: So why not?
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Just something something to do.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: That's a good thing.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: Who'd you say is it?
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: FAU and who?
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: FAU and the North Texas Mean Green.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: They're in the American Conference, and they're both five and two.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: These are two decent teams, but North Texas at home is favored by 14 points.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: I think I think I'm I think I'm gonna take the over.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: That sounds like a good time.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: All right, folks.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: That is the end of the podcast.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: As you'll be back next week with more what did we learn?
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: The four downs were working title.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Week 10 review.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Week 10 review is going to be at least on paper the biggest week of college football, probably all season.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: The slate is just absolutely unbelievable.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: And then we'll do some more putt or go for it.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: So Mark's training for that.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, Mark was.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: I've got the number.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: The highest total in the last 10 years was Oregon at Cal on October 21st, 2016, and it was 89.5 points.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: That was that must have been that must have been peak Chip Kelly's like hurry up or the they were when they were doing that crazy speed offense.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: And uh do you knew the total amount of points actually scored in the game?
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: Actually.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: 101.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: Jesus.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: The overhits.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: They went over.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: They overwent over 89 and a half.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: Thursday night fireworks.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Take the over and sit back and just buckle up for the roller combat.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: Relax and enjoy some touchdowns.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: All right, folks.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: That is all of us from here.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: Please make sure to like and subscribe.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much for listening.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: We are so glad you are here.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: And the words of Camario be safe, be smooth, and have a great night.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Outside the window, Texas Tech vs.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Mayor in 2015 reached 90 and a half.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: That was 11 years ago.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: I'll take it out of here.
