- 0:00And you see this is exactly why I wait at least 10 to 15 maybe even 20 minutes before
- 0:10I start recording because you know why?
- 0:12Guess what happens?
- 0:13Either someone gets paid, someone gets traded, someone gets cut, someone signs with a new
- 0:18team.
- 0:19All those crazy things happen.
- 0:21All the breaking news things happen right before I'm getting ready to do a new episode
- 0:25while I'm editing the episode or while I'm getting ready to put out the episode.
- 0:29It happens every single time.
- 0:30But guess what?
- 0:31We got a bag alert folks.
- 0:32That's right.
- 0:33We have a bag alert.
- 0:34A breaking news bag alert.
- 0:36Garrett Bowles is now going to be a Bronco for life.
- 0:40Bill Belichick is going back to school.
- 0:4349ers and Rams tonight.
- 0:45Washington and New Orleans on Sunday.
- 0:47Eagles and Steelers on Sunday.
- 0:49And Lions and Bills on Sunday.
- 0:53We got some great matchups man.
- 0:54I cannot wait to try to watch each and every one of these games.
- 0:59I'm going to have my TV on one game, have my laptop on another game, have my iPad on
- 1:04another game, and have my phone on another game because guess what?
- 1:07We are the football junkies podcast over here.
- 1:09We live, breathe, sleep, football as well as your GM who currently is not on a team
- 1:17right now.
- 1:18But don't you worry about it.
- 1:21Don't you worry your mind about it because you know why?
- 1:25None of that matters because you know why.
- 1:26The most important thing that does matter is I am your host, Kale.
- 1:30You already know what I'm getting ready to say.
- 1:32This might be a little bit of a long episode.
- 1:34Hopefully it's not.
- 1:35Maybe it might be a short episode.
- 1:37I don't know what I'm saying anymore.
- 1:38But guess what?
- 1:39On three.
- 1:40One, two, three.
- 1:41One, two, three.
- 1:51All right, folks, let's just get into the meat and potatoes of everything that is going
- 2:19on in the league right now.
- 2:22As I said before in the intro, I was literally getting ready to record.
- 2:25I'm thinking, okay, the most important news of the day is Bill Belichick is the new head
- 2:30coach for the University of North Carolina.
- 2:33The next thing I know, guess what happens?
- 2:35Garibose gets paid.
- 2:36So we might as well want to talk about it.
- 2:39This is essentially a four-year $82 million deal that goes up to $86 million a year.
- 2:45You'll be making $42 million guaranteed according to early reports, which roughly equates to
- 2:51about $20.5 million a year.
- 2:54This is actually a really good deal simply because he's the ninth highest paid tackle,
- 2:58which is fairly good.
- 3:00And not to mention, he was supposed to be a free agent after this season.
- 3:03So you lock up your tackle.
- 3:05He's now going to be a bronco for life.
- 3:08It's a great deal.
- 3:09It doesn't necessarily break the bank or anything.
- 3:13But at the same time, you have a veteran left tackle who was going to be able to protect
- 3:17bonex in the years to come.
- 3:20Prior to this point, Garibose was publicly saying that he was dissatisfied with not getting
- 3:26a new deal and he was hoping to try to get a new deal and things just didn't go in his
- 3:32direction.
- 3:33And then we're finally at the last few games of the season and then they decide to reward
- 3:39him with a deal, which all in all, is great.
- 3:42If you would have told me that Garibose was going to hit free agency, I would have called
- 3:45you a liar.
- 3:46Low key, I had an idea that most likely they were going to try to hash something out.
- 3:52Now, I didn't expect for them to do the traditional four years, but they locked him up and they
- 3:58value him and they're winning and he's playing good and whatnot.
- 4:02So you might as well want to reward him and make him a Bronco for life.
- 4:07So all in all, great job for them.
- 4:09Tell them to the more pressing news that everybody wants to talk about.
- 4:14Bill Belichick is now going to be the next head coach for the University of North Carolina
- 4:20football team.
- 4:21Now, this is what I will say.
- 4:23Actually, you know what?
- 4:24No, before we get into my opinions and whatnot, let's just go over some junkie nuggets and
- 4:29some junkie bullet points that needs to be talked about.
- 4:33So basically this is a multi-year deal.
- 4:35The details are pending and that'll probably happen once this press conference is happening.
- 4:41So as of right now, as I'm recording, most likely his press conference is going on right
- 4:47now.
- 4:48So once that conference is over with, we'll probably get a little bit more clarity with
- 4:53exactly how much money will he be making.
- 4:56UNC has also agreed to increase their NIO commitments from $4 million to $20 million
- 5:02a year, which is actually pretty surprising.
- 5:05Michael Lombardi will be the GM for UNC.
- 5:09He replaces Mac Brown, who went 44 and 33 in his six seasons.
- 5:14This was his second stint with UNC after the 88-87 run that they had that included six
- 5:20bowl appearances.
- 5:22Bill Belichick, of course, spent 23 years with the Patriots and has 333 victories.
- 5:27And his 14 victories shy of breaking Don Shuler's head coaching victory record.
- 5:34On one hand, I am happy that Bill Belichick is back in the coaching driver's seat.
- 5:40However, I do have mixed opinions about this simply because of who Bill Belichick is.
- 5:46Now, granted, Bill has been on this run within the last few months or whatever of basically
- 5:52trying to change his public appearance.
- 5:56Bill Belichick came off as a nonchalant, short talking head coach that really didn't have
- 6:03to say a whole lot, right?
- 6:05Some people will call him cutthroat with some of his tactics in football.
- 6:09Some of them will say he is manipulative when it comes to the rules.
- 6:14Whoever you go to, they'll have different opinions about Bill Belichick.
- 6:18My only problem with this is you know that Bill wants power.
- 6:24When he was the head coach for the Patriots, he had power.
- 6:29He was both the general manager as well as the head coach.
- 6:33That's why a lot of those draft picks, especially towards the end of Bill Belichick's tenure
- 6:38with the Patriots have not really hit that much because why?
- 6:42He made those picks.
- 6:44He did.
- 6:45When they was doing the draft, I think it was the draft during the pandemic.
- 6:50He had his, you know, they had the camera on him.
- 6:53He had his laptop up and he would get up and he would walk away for like 20 or 30 minutes,
- 6:57come back, you'll see his dog, you know, sitting where he's supposed to be sitting and whatnot.
- 7:02It was just a whole bunch of stuff.
- 7:04What will be his selling point to players?
- 7:07Because it'll be different if Bill made this shift prior to the NIL because you know with
- 7:15Bill's coaching style, he's going to bring the best out of players.
- 7:19But now that you have the NIL in place, not everyone is going to be as open to the coaching
- 7:25style that Bill Belichick brings.
- 7:28Now there may be some players who you may be a one or two or three star prospect or
- 7:32maybe even a zero star prospect and you just want a chance, then hey, this is probably
- 7:37your place to go.
- 7:39But on the other hand, if you are a five star prospect, most likely you are thinking that
- 7:45you are going to be treated, you know, different than everybody else.
- 7:48Well, news flash, you are not going to be treated than everybody else.
- 7:52You're going to be treated just like everybody.
- 7:54Hell, even look at Tom Brady.
- 7:57Tom Brady won six championships for the Patriots and not once did Bill Belichick ever treat
- 8:04him different than everybody else.
- 8:06Better yet, there were times and you can check in, you can look at other, you know, foreign
- 8:11players, Julian Oman has a podcast and, you know, other players have podcasts and make
- 8:15guest appearances.
- 8:16They've all said the same thing.
- 8:18Bill Belichick has grilled Tom Brady in front of the entire team like he is a nobody.
- 8:24That's just who Bill is.
- 8:25Bill coach is hard.
- 8:27You would have thought that Bill wouldn't have done this, especially with his buddy
- 8:31Nick Saban leaving Alabama because Nick Saban was run was about to run into the same thing
- 8:36that Bill is about to run into, which is what I can't coach you and prepare you to bring
- 8:42the best out of you to prepare you for the draft and for the NFL.
- 8:47And we're always talking about money.
- 8:49I just can't.
- 8:50That's going to be the roadblock between success and mediocre because when we look at it, how
- 8:57in the world can you convince a player who is making two, maybe three million a year
- 9:02who has a pretty good NIO deal to want to take the extra mile, who wants to put in extra
- 9:08time who, you know, you should be doing this more, you should be doing that more, you should
- 9:12be more critical, you know, with how you play, you should be more critical when you're in
- 9:16these situations and that situations.
- 9:18It's hard to do that when they're making that much money.
- 9:21And so that was the reason why Nick Saban just decided to say, you know what, hey, I think
- 9:28it's my time.
- 9:29I did what I needed to do.
- 9:30I have basically flooded the league with Alabama players.
- 9:35I have now made them, you know, one of the, you know, creme de la creme when it comes
- 9:39to college prospects.
- 9:41I've won titles.
- 9:43I got commercials.
- 9:44I've done it all.
- 9:45There's no need for me to coach anymore.
- 9:48I just have so many questions about this move.
- 9:50I really do.
- 9:52It's nothing really against Bill Belichick because negative as there is about Bill Belichick,
- 9:57there is also positive because one thing you cannot take away from Bill Belichick is he
- 10:03always gives the players that nobody wants to deal with, that nobody wants to give them
- 10:08a chance.
- 10:09He brings them in and make them great.
- 10:11Case in point, Malcolm Butler.
- 10:13Malcolm Butler is sealed in Superbowl history because of that one play.
- 10:19If you would have told me that Malcolm Butler would have made a historic play like that,
- 10:23I would have called you a liar.
- 10:25Julian Edelman, somebody that nobody wanted to give a chance.
- 10:29There are so many players on those Patriots Superbowl teams that nobody knew about until
- 10:38they made a significant play in all those Superbowls.
- 10:43That is one of the things that you have to love about Bill Belichick.
- 10:47But at the same time, you also have to be careful because of the ego that comes with
- 10:52Bill Belichick.
- 10:54Because granted, you can say, hey, I coached Lawrence Taylor, one of the greatest defensive
- 11:00players of all time.
- 11:01I've won this many rings.
- 11:04I've done this.
- 11:05I've done that.
- 11:06But at the end of the day, you've done recently because the last thing that we saw Bill do
- 11:12was lose.
- 11:13And mind you, this was post Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, Gronk and Company.
- 11:19And so what exactly can you sell to these players now that will make them want to go
- 11:27above and beyond for you?
- 11:29Because as of right now, Bill has a tall task ahead of them.
- 11:34And he has to figure out exactly how in the world can he create his little niche, really
- 11:40cultivate these players and make these players the best players that they can be.
- 11:46On to tonight's game that really has a lot riding on it, OK?
- 11:5249ers in rams.
- 11:54Now, to some people, you'll probably think, this probably isn't a really good game.
- 11:58But to me, as a football junkie, this is an amazing game because why?
- 12:02This has major playoff implications because whoever loses this game, most likely, your
- 12:07chances of making it to the playoffs is slim to none.
- 12:10But here is just a few junkie nuggets that sort of caught my attention and I think definitely
- 12:15needs to be talked about leading into this game.
- 12:18So in the 20 games that Pukinakua and Cooper Cup have played together, they have combined
- 12:23for 150 and a half receiving yards per game.
- 12:28These two are probably two of the best receivers in the league right now, OK?
- 12:34This group, this core, this little Batman and Robin thing that they have, it's amazing.
- 12:40These two alone diced up the bill's defense.
- 12:44They couldn't stop them and that's why you kept on seeing holding, passing interference
- 12:50and all those different types of calls because why?
- 12:52You couldn't stop Puka and you definitely couldn't stop Cooper Cup.
- 12:56Now, both teams are coming off of wins, which is pretty good.
- 13:00The 49ers run has been struggling without Trent Williams, OK?
- 13:04So when Trent Williams is not on the field, they average 4.3 yards per carry.
- 13:09But with Trent Williams on the field, they average 5 yards per carry.
- 13:13Now you're probably thinking that's probably not a whole lot, but that is significant because
- 13:18we have seen when Trent Williams is on the field, the run game runs a lot smoother and
- 13:26they're able to get a first down and more compared to when he's not on the field.
- 13:32Run game is struggling.
- 13:34So I just want to see exactly how is the 49ers going to scheme against Puka Nakua and Cooper
- 13:42Cup because right now the 49ers need Nick Bolsa to play and other star players to play
- 13:49right now because for one, the patch rush has not been able to create a lot of pressure.
- 13:54And we all know that when Matthew Stafford doesn't have a whole lot of pressure on him,
- 13:59that's when he starts cooking.
- 14:00That's when he starts having these type of games like how he had on Sunday against the
- 14:04Bills.
- 14:05And mind you, as of right now, which I didn't even realize until I checked it, Washington
- 14:11is the seventh seed and they are eight and five right now.
- 14:15If they lose on Sunday, they'll be eight and six.
- 14:19The Rams right now are seven and six.
- 14:21So the Rams have to win this game tonight.
- 14:24I think there is a chance they may be able to get the seventh seed away from Washington
- 14:31if they start losing some games.
- 14:33For San Francisco, it's a little bit more difficult for them because they're six and
- 14:38seven.
- 14:39I just don't think they're going to make it to the playoffs this year.
- 14:41I think this is a down year for them, you know, from them battling injuries and losing
- 14:46a lot of their star players and whatnot.
- 14:49It's just been a down year for them.
- 14:50So I would rather for them not to make it to the playoffs and just try to regroup and
- 14:55replan for next year than to try to, you know, see if they can hope and pray that they can
- 15:01make it to the playoffs.
- 15:02Just saying.
- 15:03I just want to put this out there though, just before we go on to any of the other games
- 15:07when Cooper Cup, Puka and Kyra Williams are on the field at the same time, right?
- 15:12The record is 11 and five.
- 15:14They scored 27 points per game, 338 yards per game and 51 total touchdowns.
- 15:21But when they are missing one or more, one of these players, they are 68, 19 points per
- 15:27game, 315 yards per game and 29 total touchdowns according to ESPN stats.
- 15:33And info also just to put this out there before we go any further.
- 15:39Apparently Bill Belichick has also confirmed that, you know, with this move of him being
- 15:44the head coach for UNC that he does not intend to go back into the NFL.
- 15:50If somebody was to offer him a head coaching position.
- 15:54Also Bill Belichick has also confirmed that the first quote unquote higher will be former
- 16:00interim head coach Freddie kitchens will now be on the Bill Belichick staff.
- 16:05Let's see exactly what exactly he's going to be in charge of.
- 16:09What aspect are they going to use him?
- 16:11Is he going to use him to like show him, you know, how they do things, you know, how the
- 16:15culture is down there?
- 16:17I don't know, but only time will tell from this point on now back to the other football
- 16:23games that we have to talk about.
- 16:24What is the most important game that is going to be happening on Sunday Eagles and Steelers?
- 16:29Okay, yes, we have to talk about the Eagles and Steelers simply because a lot is riding
- 16:35on this game.
- 16:36Okay, because this is an important game for both teams.
- 16:39All right, but mainly for the Steelers because right now they could continue to possibly climb
- 16:46and maybe try to see if they can get the second seat.
- 16:48I'm just saying here, folks, I get, you know, this is probably going to be the most difficult.
- 16:54I've seen crazier things.
- 16:55Okay.
- 16:56The only one takeaway from this Steelers team is they find different ways to win.
- 17:01They don't just beat you with just, you know, the quarterback doing his thing or the defense
- 17:06doing his thing.
- 17:07No, there's been some games where they won based off of just field goal kicks.
- 17:11There's been games where the defense has been doing the thing.
- 17:13It's just the Steelers this year are mysterious.
- 17:17Okay.
- 17:18When it comes to winning, that's just what it is.
- 17:20When we get into some of these junkie nuggets, okay, which I didn't even realize this until
- 17:24I actually found it.
- 17:25Russell Wilson is undefeated against the Eagles through 13 games.
- 17:30Seyquan has averaged 124.8 rushing yards per game.
- 17:36The Eagles are 10 and no at home against the Steelers in the Super Bowl era.
- 17:42The Steelers are 10th in points per game at 24.8 while the Eagles are eighth in points
- 17:48per game at 26.3.
- 17:50And the Steelers close game record is six and three while the Eagles close game record
- 17:55are seven and one.
- 17:56Now, the reason why I wanted to highlight the points per game as well as the close game
- 18:03record is because this is going to be a fairly close game.
- 18:07This is not going to be a blowout.
- 18:08I do think the Steelers are going to, you know, hang on in this game, but there's probably
- 18:14going to come a time and point where a play is going to be made that is going to seal
- 18:19the game because as of right now, the number one priority in this game for the Steelers
- 18:25is trying to limit Seyquan Barkley's effectiveness in this game.
- 18:30And the reason why I say that is because once Seyquan Barkley starts going, that opens things
- 18:35up for everybody else to start eating and you don't want to do that.
- 18:39You want to try to contain him as much as possible.
- 18:42Sure there's going to be some plays where he's just going to do his thing and he's
- 18:46going to get his yards, but you want to make him fight for it though.
- 18:50You don't want to try to just give it to him.
- 18:51No, you want to try to fight for it.
- 18:53Okay.
- 18:54You have to figure out what you're going to do with H.A. Brown.
- 18:56You have to figure out what you're going to do with Dallas Goddard and Avante Smith and
- 19:00Jahan Dotson if they decide to use him.
- 19:03So the Steelers defense has their hands full against this Eagles offense because this Eagles
- 19:09offense has the weapons that can beat you in the air as well as in the ground for the
- 19:15Steelers offense.
- 19:17You want to try to put up as many points as you can.
- 19:20Any time you have a chance of putting points on the board, do it.
- 19:23Whether that means you make a field goal every single time or a touchdown or whatever the
- 19:29case may be.
- 19:30You want to try to keep this game as close as possible, but at the same time, be able
- 19:36to put a cap on certain players because we know H.A. Brown is going to make a big play.
- 19:43H.A. Brown is going to make a big play.
- 19:45Avante Smith is probably going to make a big play.
- 19:47Dallas Goddard is going to make a big play.
- 19:49So you have to be able to figure out how you're going to be able to limit all of those stars
- 19:56on this team.
- 19:57While at the same time creating enough pressure on Jalen Hertz that can result in turnovers
- 20:03and field position.
- 20:05Because again, T.J. White, if I'm not mistaken, he is first in the league when it comes to
- 20:10force fumbles.
- 20:11Nick Herbic is right behind him and everybody knows Nick Herbic, T.J. White, Alex Highsmith.
- 20:18They're going to go after the quarterback.
- 20:20They're going to create pressure.
- 20:21They're going to do their thing.
- 20:22So I cannot wait to watch this game.
- 20:25I know this is going to be a great game.
- 20:27Hopefully the Steelers win this game so then I can have some leeway to talk to the Eagles
- 20:33fans, but if we don't, it is what it is.
- 20:36Come to another game that is very interesting and sort of has a little bit of a revenge
- 20:41game into it.
- 20:43Washington and New Orleans.
- 20:44And the reason why I say that is because Marshawn Lattimore apparently will be playing
- 20:49this game.
- 20:51So who knows?
- 20:52Maybe he might be able to enact his revenge on the Saints.
- 20:55I don't know, but I will say this though.
- 20:58Entering into this week, Alvin Camero leads the Saints in both rushing yards at 938 and
- 21:04receiving yards at 485.
- 21:06Both teams are coming off a W and the commanders are fourth in points per game at 28.9 while
- 21:12the Saints are 17th in points per game at 22.3.
- 21:18Also this could be the game where we see KJ Osborne suit up in a commander's uniform.
- 21:24Now onto the last game that we need to talk about and I think it's probably going to be
- 21:28the most important game that everybody wants to watch.
- 21:31And that is the Lions in the Bills.
- 21:34And the reason why I say that is because this game definitely has a lot riding on it for
- 21:41both of these teams.
- 21:43Especially for the Bills because with them losing against the Rams on Sunday that could
- 21:49open up chances for the Steelers to try to get the second seed.
- 21:54We all know that they're coming off that Orville.
- 21:57No need to talk about it.
- 21:59Whereas the Lions are coming off another W. The Lions lead the league in points per game
- 22:05at 32.1 while the Bills are second in points per game at 30.5.
- 22:13Most likely this is probably going to be a high scoring game.
- 22:15Most likely this game is going to come down to the wire.
- 22:19And most likely this is probably going to be the toughest matchup for the Bills to end
- 22:24the season.
- 22:25Because right now outside of this game it's basically cool calm waters.
- 22:32But you got to get through this game.
- 22:34And last time I checked Matthew Stafford and Cooper Cup and Pukin and Kuhl put on a clinic
- 22:39on this Bills defense.
- 22:40So I would not be surprised if there is a repeat of this again.
- 22:44But hopefully the Bills get away with this W. Well not really because I don't really
- 22:50want the Bills to win because I want us to get the second seed.
- 22:52But nobody cares about that.
- 22:54So I'm going to end this here.
- 22:56I told you guys this is going to be a fairly short episode.
